Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Hello everybody, and welcome to the Monday episode of Fair
- 0:04Speaker 1: Territory with Ken Rosenthal. As you can see, that is
- 0:08Speaker 1: not Ken Rosenthal. I am absolutely privileged to be joined
- 0:12Speaker 1: by my friend Tim Kirchin, of course does a tremendous
- 0:14Speaker 1: job covering Major League Baseball on ESPN, the twenty twenty
- 0:18Speaker 1: two BBWAA Career Excellence Award recipient, as well as the
- 0:23Speaker 1: co host of Is This a Great Game or What?
- 0:26Speaker 1: With his son Jeff, part of the Foul Territory Network.
- 0:29Speaker 1: More on the show in a few minutes. Tim, great
- 0:32Speaker 1: to be with you. Thank you for spots. Starting for Ken,
- 0:36Speaker 1: It's awesome to have you on the show. I am
- 0:39Speaker 1: very interested in knowing what your takeaway is from last
- 0:42Speaker 1: night's game. Usas win two to one over the Dominican Republic.
- 0:47Speaker 2: What did you think?
- 0:48Speaker 3: Well, it was a great game, and it's just another
- 0:51Speaker 3: reminder how great the young players are in today's games.
- 0:56Speaker 3: Look at the three guys who hit home runs last night.
- 0:59Speaker 3: They are part of an incredibly bright future for Major
- 1:04Speaker 3: League baseball. There are stars everywhere, a lot of Ever
- 1:07Speaker 3: since Mike trouton Bryce Harper came in essentially together what
- 1:11Speaker 3: thirteen years ago, the wave of players who are coming
- 1:15Speaker 3: to the big leagues. They are so big, they are
- 1:17Speaker 3: so strong, they are so fast, they are so talented,
- 1:21Speaker 3: and they are so ready when they get here.
- 1:24Speaker 1: That was my.
- 1:25Speaker 3: Takeaway when you look at all those All Stars and
- 1:28Speaker 3: then you look at the age of them. The game
- 1:31Speaker 3: is in really good hands moving forward, and yet it
- 1:34Speaker 3: really well. It bothered me a little bit that the
- 1:37Speaker 3: game was about, you know, the final pitch of the game,
- 1:40Speaker 3: which wasn't a strike. We shouldn't be talking about a
- 1:43Speaker 3: missed call, an umpire or anything else when there's this
- 1:47Speaker 3: many great players on the field. But that's what a
- 1:50Speaker 3: lot of people were talking about in the game last night. Unfortunately.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Yeah, it is unfortunate because that game was so good
- 1:56Speaker 1: up until that final moment. But that being said, whether
- 1:59Speaker 1: it was a bad call or not, tim the Dominican
- 2:02Speaker 1: Republic wasn't that great when they had the opportunities to
- 2:05Speaker 1: be great two for nine with runners in scoring position,
- 2:08Speaker 1: and it wasn't as if they did not have chances.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Are you surprised that that lineup was not able to
- 2:13Speaker 1: capitalize in the big moment.
- 2:16Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm always surprised when a really good lineup gets
- 2:19Speaker 3: shut down. Like that at the same time, Alana, we
- 2:22Speaker 3: know this the pitching in the big leagues, the stuff
- 2:25Speaker 3: we see every day. I say it every time I
- 2:28Speaker 3: do a game, watch a game, how does anyone get
- 2:31Speaker 3: a hit anymore? And I was told yesterday, you know,
- 2:35Speaker 3: the United States bullpen is not very good, you know,
- 2:39Speaker 3: given all things, And yet the bullpen was absolutely tremendous
- 2:43Speaker 3: last night. They had very little chance to get hits
- 2:47Speaker 3: off of that bullpen. And when you watch Mason Miller pitch,
- 2:49Speaker 3: you ask all the time, how did anyone ever get
- 2:52Speaker 3: a hit off of that guy? So yes, I'm surprised
- 2:55Speaker 3: that that great lineup got shut down. But just another reminder.
- 3:01Speaker 3: When our pitchers are locating with that ridiculous stuff, when
- 3:06Speaker 3: they throw it where they want to properly, the hitters
- 3:10Speaker 3: virtually have no chance. And these are some of the
- 3:12Speaker 3: best hitters on earth. This is why the United States
- 3:16Speaker 3: struck out fifteen times yesterday and won the game. This
- 3:20Speaker 3: is what we face every single night. The pitching is ridiculous,
- 3:24Speaker 3: and if you miss in the strike zone, it's not
- 3:27Speaker 3: a single of the left field anymore. It goes thirty
- 3:30Speaker 3: rows up. But if you locate with that ridiculous stuff.
- 3:33Speaker 3: You don't just get people out, you strike him out.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Mason Miller, Man, I tell you what, if you're in
- 3:38Speaker 1: the National League and you're specifically the nationally West, you
- 3:41Speaker 1: know a lot about Mason Miller. How does he compare
- 3:44Speaker 1: tim to other dominant closers that you have covered in
- 3:47Speaker 1: your tenure.
- 3:49Speaker 3: Well, he throws a hat as hard as just about
- 3:52Speaker 3: any closer that we've seen. And he's got that slider too,
- 3:56Speaker 3: which he can balance and people still swing at it
- 3:59Speaker 3: because they can't lay off of it. And alta. You
- 4:02Speaker 3: know his story too. Remember he told me once that
- 4:05Speaker 3: he got so sick that he went down to one
- 4:09Speaker 3: hundred and fifty pounds. Well, why weigh less than that,
- 4:12Speaker 3: but not many people do. And he's now up. Then
- 4:16Speaker 3: he gained back to like twoint fifteen and started throwing
- 4:19Speaker 3: really hard again. So he's been through a lot. And
- 4:23Speaker 3: go look at his numbers in the World Baseball Classic.
- 4:26Speaker 3: I'm not positive about it, but it's like fourteen batters
- 4:29Speaker 3: faced and ten strikeouts against the best hitters in the tournament.
- 4:33Speaker 3: That's how good he has been. I've seen better closers
- 4:36Speaker 3: than him because they've done it for longer. But when
- 4:38Speaker 3: it comes to overpowering stuff. Not too many better than
- 4:41Speaker 3: that guy.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Tim, And it wasn't just the fact that they couldn't
- 4:44Speaker 1: capitalize with runners in scoring position. This is a game
- 4:47Speaker 1: that really illustrated that base running fundamentals they still matter
- 4:51Speaker 1: that momentum swing. Of course, when Aaron Judge threw out
- 4:53Speaker 1: Fernando Tatis Junior trying to go first to third, and
- 4:57Speaker 1: then the second time you have the opportunity to get
- 4:59Speaker 1: to third, he stopped at second base and that proved
- 5:02Speaker 1: to be a turning point in the game. So this
- 5:05Speaker 1: is where the fundamentals the base running doing the little
- 5:09Speaker 1: things really showed and reared its uglyhead.
- 5:13Speaker 3: Yeah, a lot of Six years ago for ESPN dot com,
- 5:16Speaker 3: I wrote a story that base running is the worst
- 5:19Speaker 3: I have ever seen it in all the years that
- 5:21Speaker 3: I've covered. And I didn't just make this up. Paul Moleander,
- 5:24Speaker 3: Dusty Baker, all sorts of you know, veteran Major league
- 5:29Speaker 3: players and managers told me it's the worst we've ever seen.
- 5:32Speaker 3: So I wrote another story this spring, and as a
- 5:35Speaker 3: run yet on the similar topic that if you don't
- 5:38Speaker 3: run the bases properly, it might cost you a game.
- 5:42Speaker 3: And to some degree, it cost the Dominican Republic a
- 5:46Speaker 3: game last night. You got to go from first to
- 5:48Speaker 3: third on that ball. You got to score from second
- 5:50Speaker 3: on that ball. And my story that I wrote is
- 5:52Speaker 3: all about getting a good lead, a secondary lead, which
- 5:55Speaker 3: we don't talk much about. But because the players just
- 5:58Speaker 3: overpowered the sport with their physical gifts, their strength, their size,
- 6:03Speaker 3: their speed, their velocity, they are not always taught by
- 6:08Speaker 3: the industry how to get a good lead, how to
- 6:10Speaker 3: run the bases properly. And last night it didn't cost
- 6:15Speaker 3: him the game, but it sure didn't help the Dominican Republic.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Well, Fernando Tatist Junior seemed like he was a little
- 6:20Speaker 1: bit gunshy going again because of the previous you know,
- 6:24Speaker 1: at bat or whatever, when he was thrown out by
- 6:26Speaker 1: Aaron Judge. Don't run on number ninety nine, Tim, Who
- 6:30Speaker 1: is the best base runner that you have ever covered?
- 6:34Speaker 3: Paul Monitors the best base runner that I've ever covered,
- 6:38Speaker 3: And I've talked to him about this multiple times a lot.
- 6:41Speaker 3: He played a game that same name that we played
- 6:44Speaker 3: when we were kids. It was called hot Box, and
- 6:47Speaker 3: hotbox is when there's a guy in a rundown and
- 6:49Speaker 3: you're trying to get from base to base. You could
- 6:52Speaker 3: play hot box with three people. You don't need eighteen
- 6:56Speaker 3: people to play hot box, he said. We played that
- 6:58Speaker 3: for hours at a time when I first started covering baseball.
- 7:02Speaker 2: On it.
- 7:03Speaker 3: He would get on first for the Brewers, Robin Yell
- 7:06Speaker 3: would hit a rifle shot to right field, and all
- 7:08Speaker 3: of a sudden, it's first and third with nobody out.
- 7:11Speaker 3: Molder was so good at taking a big lead and
- 7:15Speaker 3: understanding the dynamics of running the bases. He could sometimes
- 7:19Speaker 3: get so far off of first base that he could
- 7:22Speaker 3: peek in and see the catcher's sign from first base.
- 7:27Speaker 3: This is back when we used to put signs between
- 7:30Speaker 3: our legs like that. That's how good he was. Joe
- 7:34Speaker 3: Madden told me the other day, Paul molders the best
- 7:36Speaker 3: base runner I've ever seen. And we've had so many
- 7:39Speaker 3: good ones, Davey Lopes, Joe Morgan, you know, Lou Brock.
- 7:43Speaker 3: Of course, Ricky Henderson was great, but the best I've
- 7:46Speaker 3: ever seen was Paul Molder. And I quoted him in
- 7:48Speaker 3: this story about the importance of base running, and he
- 7:53Speaker 3: told me, it's always been the most fun part of
- 7:56Speaker 3: the game for me, and yet we don't really stress
- 8:00Speaker 3: it very often in the big leagues, and sometimes it'll
- 8:04Speaker 3: come back and get you.
- 8:05Speaker 1: Yeah, you mentioned Davey Lops That's one of the guys
- 8:07Speaker 1: I know with such a tremendous first base coach because
- 8:10Speaker 1: he'd really tell the tendencies of the pitcher, knowing exactly
- 8:14Speaker 1: what those guys were going to do. Tim you had
- 8:16Speaker 1: mentioned the great hitters already at the age under the
- 8:19Speaker 1: age of twenty five, Junior Camenaro, the home run Gunnar
- 8:22Speaker 1: Henderson only twenty four, of the home run Roman Anthony
- 8:24Speaker 1: just twenty one. The Boston future in terms of star
- 8:28Speaker 1: studded power there so young star power is in the sport.
- 8:31Speaker 1: But let's talk about this in terms of the face
- 8:33Speaker 1: of it right now. Aaron Judge obviously is Team USA's captain.
- 8:37Speaker 1: But is Paul Skins the pitching face of the sport
- 8:40Speaker 1: right now?
- 8:41Speaker 3: Yeah? I think he is. Alana, I have never seen
- 8:45Speaker 3: in the forty five years that I've covered a pitcher
- 8:47Speaker 3: come in and make this kind of impact in his
- 8:52Speaker 3: first two full seasons now or his first two seasons.
- 8:56Speaker 3: Fernando Alzuel had a nine star stretch at the beginning
- 8:59Speaker 3: of his that no one will ever match but Skeens
- 9:02Speaker 3: has essentially done this for two years. You could make
- 9:05Speaker 3: a case that the day he arrived in the big
- 9:07Speaker 3: leagues two years ago, he has been the best pitcher
- 9:10Speaker 3: from that day until this day. And he still is.
- 9:14Speaker 3: He's six', six he weighs two point. Fifty he's got ridiculous.
- 9:17Speaker 3: Stuff he's a absolutely maniacal, competitor and all he cares
- 9:22Speaker 3: about is. Winning and even though he only went what
- 9:24Speaker 3: four and a third last, night he gave them a
- 9:27Speaker 3: chance to. Win IF i had anyone to pitch one
- 9:30Speaker 3: game for me right, NOW i would pick. Him and
- 9:33Speaker 3: he is the face of pitching in baseball, certainly and
- 9:37Speaker 3: he showed it to some degree last.
- 9:39Speaker 1: NIGHT i love the fact that no free passes, either
- 9:42Speaker 1: zero walks on the night Four. Skeens of, Course Mark,
- 9:44Speaker 1: durosa tim took a lot of heat for the. MISSPEAKING
- 9:48Speaker 1: i guess that he felt that the team had already
- 9:50Speaker 1: punched their ticket to the. QUARTERFINALS a little bit of
- 9:53Speaker 1: vindication last night though for d row by Starting Gunner
- 9:56Speaker 1: henderson Over Alex bregman at third Against. Louisino, Obviously severno
- 10:01Speaker 1: doesn't have the best luck against.
- 10:03Speaker 2: Lefties did you like that MOVE i.
- 10:06Speaker 3: Did BUT i will say how difficult it is For
- 10:10Speaker 3: mark De rose to Tell Alex, Bragman, okay you're not playing,
- 10:13Speaker 3: today to tell Cal rawley with sixty omers you're not playing.
- 10:18Speaker 3: Tonight how do you do? That that is not an easy.
- 10:21Speaker 3: Decision But Gunnar henderson is one of those Guys alna
- 10:25Speaker 3: that we're talking. About he's twenty four years. OLD i
- 10:28Speaker 3: remember during his rookie YEAR i Asked Aaron boone About
- 10:32Speaker 3: Gunner henderson and he just looked at me like this and,
- 10:34Speaker 3: said he's gonna be a. Problem and, boy has he
- 10:38Speaker 3: been a problem For american ly all. Pitchers and to
- 10:42Speaker 3: get that ball and put, them you, know on the
- 10:44Speaker 3: board like that was just. Amazing and, yes he's so.
- 10:47Speaker 3: Athletic he was a great high school basketball player that
- 10:50Speaker 3: he can play shortstop and third. Base he can play
- 10:53Speaker 3: pretty much wherever you put. Him but he's twenty. Four
- 10:56Speaker 3: and then then There's Roman. Anthony this spring, Again Alex
- 11:00Speaker 3: cora looked at me and, said if you lined up
- 11:03Speaker 3: twenty really great prospects right in front of, you you
- 11:06Speaker 3: don't even have to see them work, out you would
- 11:09Speaker 3: pick Out Roman anthony and, said that's the best of the,
- 11:12Speaker 3: group just by the way he, looks the presence that he.
- 11:15Speaker 3: Has this is what baseball people can. See and that's
- 11:19Speaker 3: how Good Roman anthony. Is and Then Junior cambinaro a
- 11:23Speaker 3: lot of three years, AGO i did a playoff game
- 11:26Speaker 3: from the booth with The Blue jays and The. Rangers i'm,
- 11:29Speaker 3: sorry The rays and The rangers and cambin AROW i
- 11:33Speaker 3: went To toronto the weekend before to make SURE i
- 11:36Speaker 3: got a good look at The rays before a playoff.
- 11:38Speaker 3: Game cambinaro put on such a performance of prodigious power
- 11:45Speaker 3: in batting practice at The Rogers. Center he got a standing.
- 11:48Speaker 3: OVATION i don't Think i've ever seen a visiting player
- 11:52Speaker 3: in batting practice get a standing. Ovation that's how big
- 11:57Speaker 3: his power was three years. Ago now he's had a
- 12:00Speaker 3: forty five homer season and he's going to go back
- 12:03Speaker 3: to that this year because that kid is, really really.
- 12:06Speaker 1: Good future of this sport is, bright tim with these
- 12:09Speaker 1: great young stars coming. Up, okay another semi final. Tonight
- 12:12Speaker 1: It's venezuela versus The Cinderella team In Team italy eight
- 12:16Speaker 1: Pm eastern ON fs. One Francisco sevelli managing against his
- 12:21Speaker 1: native country Of. Venezuela this has just been such an unbelievable.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Story what are you looking forward to the most in this?
- 12:27Speaker 3: Game, well you can't take your eyes off The italian.
- 12:31Speaker 3: Team and this Is, look this is why baseball is
- 12:34Speaker 3: so so, great with all due respect to, basketball WHICH
- 12:37Speaker 3: i absolutely. Adore, also there are No cinderella teams that
- 12:42Speaker 3: go in and beat the dream team for The United
- 12:45Speaker 3: states With jordan And larry and magic and all. That, now,
- 12:48Speaker 3: again this is not the dream team in, baseball but
- 12:51Speaker 3: it's pretty darn. Good and This italian team didn't just
- 12:54Speaker 3: beat The United, states they had him down eight to.
- 12:57Speaker 3: Nothing only in this sport can this, happened which makes
- 13:01Speaker 3: it so. Beautiful and Here's Bennie, pascatino who could be
- 13:05Speaker 3: out of The american, team but he goes out and
- 13:06Speaker 3: hits three home runs for The italian. Team it's so
- 13:10Speaker 3: so good that baseball is offering up a story like.
- 13:13Speaker 3: This and THEN i watched That venezuelan game the other.
- 13:16Speaker 3: NIGHT i don't know Where i've been a. Lota how
- 13:18Speaker 3: about the talent on that, team and we're surprised that
- 13:22Speaker 3: they Beat. Japan japan is, great but there is no
- 13:25Speaker 3: surprise when a team with that kind of talent beats
- 13:28Speaker 3: another really good team in this.
- 13:30Speaker 1: Tournament venezuela out Slugging, Japan italy race Past Puerto. Rico
- 13:35Speaker 1: Tim if it was up to, you, though when is
- 13:37Speaker 1: the best time of the year to play The World Baseball?
- 13:40Speaker 1: Classic BECAUSE i Want Major League baseball players in The,
- 13:43Speaker 1: Olympics but that's in the middle of the. Season when's
- 13:45Speaker 1: the best time to play THE.
- 13:47Speaker 3: Wbc, well there's no great, time but this is the best.
- 13:52Speaker 3: Time i'm convinced of. That let's go to the end Of.
- 13:55Speaker 3: July guys have played almost one hundred games at that,
- 13:59Speaker 3: point some of them are on the disabled, list most
- 14:02Speaker 3: of them are dragging in the. Heat this, way we
- 14:05Speaker 3: get to play a lot of places indoors before the
- 14:09Speaker 3: fatigue has taken over your. Body you're in spring, training
- 14:12Speaker 3: and even though you're trying to get your body, READY
- 14:15Speaker 3: i think this is the best, time if not the only,
- 14:18Speaker 3: time to do THE. Wbc, now The olympics are a different.
- 14:22Speaker 3: Animal we'll see how that. Goes But i'll take a
- 14:25Speaker 3: fresh guy from the winter rather than a guy who's
- 14:28Speaker 3: played one hundred games at a incredibly high, level and then,
- 14:33Speaker 3: say all, right let's switch. Gears you got to go
- 14:35Speaker 3: play for someone else now and leave your. TEAM i
- 14:38Speaker 3: don't think that's a better idea than.
- 14:40Speaker 1: THIS i will say this, though whenever it's, played THE
- 14:42Speaker 1: wbc is phenomenal for the sport that you AND i.
- 14:45Speaker 2: Love it's been so much.
- 14:46Speaker 1: Fun it's going to be a great semi final tonight
- 14:48Speaker 1: in the, final of, course should be a good one as.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Well another good one is your podcast with your Son
- 14:54Speaker 1: Jeff Tim is this a great game or what you?
- 14:58Speaker 1: Are new to the fouls territory now, Work welcome to the.
- 15:01Speaker 1: Family your latest episode revisited an interview with ESPN's Scott Van.
- 15:05Speaker 1: Pelt tell us a little bit more about the POT
- 15:07Speaker 1: i love this.
- 15:08Speaker 3: Well it's my, Son jeff AND. I he's thirty two years.
- 15:12Speaker 3: Old he's a radio guy In, philadelphia does music. Talk
- 15:16Speaker 3: he's not a big baseball. Guy but that's good because
- 15:20Speaker 3: he knows everything about everything else pop, culture, music you, know,
- 15:25Speaker 3: technology everything else that poor pop up. Here he doesn't
- 15:28Speaker 3: know anything other than, baseball at basketball and sitcoms from the.
- 15:33Speaker 3: Sixties so we are a pretty good team when it
- 15:36Speaker 3: comes to. That And, lana, sorry we've got a different
- 15:39Speaker 3: direction instead of having hot takes every day to see
- 15:42Speaker 3: how controversial we could. Be we just try to laugh
- 15:46Speaker 3: and we try to learn, here and we're always trying
- 15:48Speaker 3: to present something that nobody else has thought, about even
- 15:51Speaker 3: if it's on even the silly side once in a.
- 15:54Speaker 3: While SO i think it's okay to laugh at our game, Anymore,
- 15:58Speaker 3: Alan and we don't laugh in our country very much,
- 16:00Speaker 3: anymore and we don't even laugh as much at baseball
- 16:03Speaker 3: as we. Should we're trying to bring that. Back just
- 16:06Speaker 3: an old guy and his. Son that's.
- 16:07Speaker 2: All, WELL i tell you, what it's incredibly. REFRESHING i love.

- 16:44Speaker 1: And tim of, course among the best storytellers of our
- 16:47Speaker 1: great game that there ever was any story or standout
- 16:51Speaker 1: memory tim about players with birthdays? Today today Is march,
- 16:54Speaker 1: Sixteenth So i'm going to give you a couple of,
- 16:56Speaker 1: names And i'll let you choose a couple of. Stories Happy,
- 16:59Speaker 1: birthday Adaimir Gerro, Junior Steven, Drew Brian, Wilson Curtis, Granderson Happy,
- 17:04Speaker 1: Birthday Grandy Jose, Mota Abraham, Nuniez Brandon, league And Charles.
- 17:08Speaker 3: Hudson you, know When Brandon league used to pitch for
- 17:12Speaker 3: The Blue, jays he was in the same bullpen As David.
- 17:17Speaker 3: Bush multiple times during that, Season David bush would pitch
- 17:22Speaker 3: and relief and be followed By Brandon. League so we
- 17:25Speaker 3: had The Bush league bullpen at The Blue jays throughout.
- 17:30Speaker 3: There ALWAYS i always paid attention to those. Things Curtis,
- 17:33Speaker 3: granderson of, course one of the great pros, ever really
- 17:37Speaker 3: really good player in his. Day he's one of six
- 17:40Speaker 3: players in history to hit ten to hit forty or
- 17:43Speaker 3: more homers in a season with ten or more letters
- 17:47Speaker 3: in his last. Name SO i gave him that list
- 17:50Speaker 3: and he thought that was like the greatest thing. Ever he,
- 17:54Speaker 3: SAID i can't wait to go tell my grandfather THAT
- 17:57Speaker 3: i am part of this. List because he, says my
- 18:00Speaker 3: grandfather loved stuff like. That Stephen drew was a really
- 18:04Speaker 3: good player in his. Day BUT i always found this.
- 18:07Speaker 3: Interesting when his older BROTHER. J. D drew was struggling
- 18:11Speaker 3: in the big, leagues he used to call his little,
- 18:14Speaker 3: brother who was a collegiate player at the, time and,
- 18:17Speaker 3: Say i'm all fouled. UP i need you to help.
- 18:20Speaker 3: Me So Stephen drew would help his older BROTHER. J.
- 18:24Speaker 3: D drew in order to get better at the. Game
- 18:29Speaker 3: it should be the other way, around where the collegiate
- 18:31Speaker 3: kid calls his major league. Brother but that's Who Stephen drew.
- 18:35Speaker 3: Was who else is on that? List, Oh Charlie, Hudson
- 18:37Speaker 3: oh my. Gosh So Charlie hudson pitched in the eighty
- 18:40Speaker 3: Three World series for The phillies And i'm covering In.
- 18:45Speaker 3: Dallas i'm covering The rangers at The Dallas Morning. News
- 18:47Speaker 3: And Charlie hudson came back to his high school to
- 18:51Speaker 3: speak to the high school, kids having just pitched in
- 18:55Speaker 3: The World, series and it was like The beatles had
- 18:58Speaker 3: shown up to his high. School this poor guy couldn't
- 19:01Speaker 3: take five steps without being besieged by. Kids Charlie hudson
- 19:06Speaker 3: going back To. Dallas we love.
- 19:07Speaker 1: That, Also happy thirty first birthday To Rowdy, tulez who
- 19:13Speaker 1: wasn't on the, list but he is thirty one, today
- 19:16Speaker 1: so happy birthday to. HIM a lot of great baseball
- 19:18Speaker 1: players with A march sixteenth. Birthday you talked About Vladimir Gerro.
- 19:23Speaker 1: Junior ACTUALLY i did at the top of this list
- 19:25Speaker 1: thinking about previous runner runners Up ken Or Tim when
- 19:29Speaker 1: you're talking.
- 19:29Speaker 2: About The World, series what kind of.
- 19:31Speaker 1: Challenge do you think awaits The Blue jays this, year
- 19:34Speaker 1: having fallen just short LAST i mean fallen like this
- 19:37Speaker 1: much short last season to The dodgers In game, Seven.
- 19:41Speaker 3: Right this much short in part because Of bath running
- 19:44Speaker 3: a lot of.
- 19:44Speaker 2: Weeks, yes exactly.
- 19:45Speaker 3: EARLY i think you could make a case The Blue
- 19:49Speaker 3: jays are the best team in The American. League Now
- 19:51Speaker 3: detroit is pretty. Good The, MARINERS i just saw them
- 19:54Speaker 3: in spring. Training they're pitching is. Loaded BUT i Think
- 19:57Speaker 3: toronto is better than it was last, year and something
- 20:01Speaker 3: happened to. Them they got a, taste the fans got a,
- 20:04Speaker 3: taste and NOW i think The Blue jays are for.
- 20:06Speaker 3: Real they've added to their rotation and back to Vlad
- 20:10Speaker 3: Guerrero junior for a second line of this needs to
- 20:12Speaker 3: be said as many times as. Possible until the, postseason
- 20:16Speaker 3: there were people out there who thought he was just
- 20:18Speaker 3: some heavy, set lumbering first. Baseman we saw him. Run
- 20:23Speaker 3: he can really run way better than people. THINK i
- 20:27Speaker 3: always knew he was a good first basement because he's
- 20:29Speaker 3: got great feet and great. Hands well we saw that
- 20:32Speaker 3: in the. Postseason, also so when it comes to complete
- 20:36Speaker 3: players in the game Of, Vladiermeer Guerrero junior is nearing
- 20:41Speaker 3: the top of that list because of the things that
- 20:43Speaker 3: he can do beyond just hit a ball as hard
- 20:46Speaker 3: as any man on the face of the, earth he
- 20:48Speaker 3: does a lot more. Stuff in, Fact Brian John, schneider
- 20:52Speaker 3: the manager, there went to Vlag guerrero last year and,
- 20:56Speaker 3: Said i've got three names here and three running. Speeds Manny,
- 20:59Speaker 3: Machado Aaron, judge and you who do you think is
- 21:02Speaker 3: the fastest? There And laddie, said, well it's not, me
- 21:06Speaker 3: And John schneider, said yes it. Is you run better
- 21:09Speaker 3: Than Manny, machado and you run better Than Aaron. Judge
- 21:13Speaker 3: so it's a good lesson for all of. Us do
- 21:15Speaker 3: not always pay attention to what the person looks. Like
- 21:19Speaker 3: just watch him play and watch him, move and not
- 21:22Speaker 3: many players move better Than Vla, guerrero certainly in the last.
- 21:26Speaker 3: Year and he and the rest of that club are
- 21:29Speaker 3: really really.
- 21:29Speaker 1: Good, yeah and you talked about the clubhouse chemistry and
- 21:32Speaker 1: an article FOR espn back In october of twenty twenty,
- 21:35Speaker 1: five and they're looking to get back to The World
- 21:38Speaker 1: series in two thousand and twenty. Six all, right let's
- 21:41Speaker 1: take a quick. Break we're going to Grill tim right
- 21:43Speaker 1: after this.
- 21:44Speaker 4: Bet I'M jm account holders. Today how about in any
- 21:47Speaker 4: sport parlay boost token you can score a bigger payout
- 21:50Speaker 4: if your wager with that. Token hits tokens can be
- 21:52Speaker 4: used on parlays and on same game. Parlays gambling, problem we're.
- 21:56Speaker 4: Concerned there's help called one eight hundred.
- 21:58Speaker 1: Gambler, Well, tim hopefully you like, barbecue because you're about
- 22:08Speaker 1: to get. Grilled the first question is in regards to
- 22:13Speaker 1: being the commissioner for a, day if you were in
- 22:16Speaker 1: Mister manfred's position for a, day what would you.
- 22:18Speaker 3: CHANGE i would get rid of the Ghost. Runner, Sorry,
- 22:23Speaker 3: Elana i'm almost seventy years. Old when we were, kids
- 22:26Speaker 3: we used to use the Ghost runner on when we
- 22:29Speaker 3: would play five on, five six on six pickup because
- 22:32Speaker 3: we didn't have enough players right, fields closed pitcher's, hand
- 22:36Speaker 3: and a ghost runner on the. Basis, look the pitch
- 22:39Speaker 3: clock has taken care of all the dead. Time can
- 22:42Speaker 3: we please play until somebody actually wins a game without
- 22:47Speaker 3: putting a runner on second? Base i'm. Sorry some of
- 22:49Speaker 3: the greatest Games i've ever seen have been eighteen inning,
- 22:54Speaker 3: games including four of them in the. Postseason there have
- 22:56Speaker 3: been five eighteen inning games in the. Postseason i've seen
- 23:00Speaker 3: four of, them and those games don't happen in the
- 23:02Speaker 3: regular season anymore because we put a guy at Second
- 23:05Speaker 3: it is, unnecessary and that would be the first THING
- 23:08Speaker 3: i would change two.
- 23:09Speaker 1: Of those with The dodgers being, involved and both of
- 23:12Speaker 1: those Games Brad paisley saying the national, anthem he's no
- 23:14Speaker 1: longer allowed.
- 23:16Speaker 3: Right and the first Two Tim hudson started the first
- 23:20Speaker 3: two eighteen inning. Game what are the chances of? That
- 23:24Speaker 3: only in? Baseball can that?
- 23:25Speaker 2: Happen only in?
- 23:27Speaker 1: Baseball the next, question your favorite and least favorite ballpark
- 23:32Speaker 1: to cover a game?
- 23:33Speaker 3: In Well fenway is still my favorite because it opened
- 23:38Speaker 3: in nineteen, twelve the week that The titanic sank my,
- 23:42Speaker 3: Father god blessed him in one of the great Baseball
- 23:45Speaker 3: he was a good player and a great baseball. Man
- 23:47Speaker 3: gave his three boys a really good feel for the
- 23:50Speaker 3: game and taught us how to play the. Game that's
- 23:52Speaker 3: where he grew up watching. Games so that's WHERE I
- 23:56Speaker 3: you know that the first GAME i can remember going
- 23:59Speaker 3: to who was in the early, Sixties Felix mantia hit
- 24:03Speaker 3: a home run At Fenway. Park those are the things
- 24:06Speaker 3: that you don't forget when you're a dinky little. Kid
- 24:08Speaker 3: So i'm always going back To fenway because of its,
- 24:12Speaker 3: age its, tradition and its. History least favorite. LOOK i
- 24:18Speaker 3: love the trop because the trop never gets rained out
- 24:21Speaker 3: and everything. Else But i'm, sorry we just can't have
- 24:25Speaker 3: a pop up hitting the. Roof it's just as too
- 24:27Speaker 3: much and we need to do something about. That it's
- 24:30Speaker 3: not LIKE i dislike the. PLACE i love going To,
- 24:32Speaker 3: florida But i'm not a big roof, guy especially when
- 24:36Speaker 3: a ball can hit.
- 24:36Speaker 1: IT i had the opportunity In august of last season
- 24:40Speaker 1: to be the color analyst for The nessen broadcast At
- 24:44Speaker 1: fenway and to sit in that booth with something incredibly,
- 24:48Speaker 1: Special SO i agree with you On fenway a very special.
- 24:50Speaker 1: Place all, right last question for, You, tim most improved
- 24:54Speaker 1: team heading into twenty and twenty, Six.
- 25:00Speaker 3: That is a great. Question i'm gonna say that The
- 25:04Speaker 3: orioles are going to be the most improved team. NOW
- 25:06Speaker 3: i say it because they were so bad last year
- 25:10Speaker 3: THAT i fully expect them to get significantly better this.
- 25:14Speaker 3: Year and that doesn't mean they're gonna win The east
- 25:17Speaker 3: Because toronto's, Better boston's, better And New york is. Better
- 25:20Speaker 3: but this thought that The orioles fell and they're not
- 25:23Speaker 3: going to get up this year of not buying. It
- 25:25Speaker 3: shane bos is gonna help, them you. Know Trevor rodgers
- 25:28Speaker 3: really gave them something at the top of that. Rotation
- 25:31Speaker 3: they've added With Taylor, War they've added With Pete. Alonso
- 25:34Speaker 3: they're going to score a lot more, runs And Gunner
- 25:37Speaker 3: henderson's going to be great. Now they just got to
- 25:39Speaker 3: get at the retchman back to where he should be
- 25:42Speaker 3: as an elite catcher in the Big. League So i'm
- 25:44Speaker 3: gonna say they're gonna take a really big jump in
- 25:46Speaker 3: wins because last year it just didn't make any sense
- 25:50Speaker 3: to me or anybody.
- 25:51Speaker 1: Else Matt jackson holiday taking a step forward in his
- 25:55Speaker 1: development will help The orioles as. Well Tim, kirchin we
- 25:58Speaker 1: appreciate you very. Much thanks for being. Here, guys don't.
- 26:01Speaker 1: Forget Foul territory is coming up at eleven Am eastern Aj.
