- 1:43Speaker 1: and they are well a whizz so yes, too bad,
- 1:46Speaker 1: but what did you expect?
- 1:48Speaker 2: It's a podcast call twenty five West.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Soul twenty line. Welcome to the show, hit Eddie, thank
- 1:55Speaker 1: you guys for being here. Seth Wickersham coming out. We'll
- 1:58Speaker 1: talk quarterbacks. It's a great conversation. I'm glad you can
- 2:01Speaker 1: hear it. I got a couple of things. One I
- 2:03Speaker 1: went to the Cubs game last night, a lot of fun.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Weather got good. We were worried because I remember what
- 2:08Speaker 1: did the Cardinals and rained us out?
- 2:09Speaker 3: Oh yeah, terrible.
- 2:10Speaker 1: I started raining again.
- 2:11Speaker 3: Oh no, haven't we started thinking it was us?
- 2:13Speaker 4: Yeah, you guys bring the ring, brought the loss.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Oh no, yeah that's right, not really because they won
- 2:19Speaker 1: two or three from the Braves. Okay, yeah, so they're
- 2:22Speaker 1: not gonna win the division anyway. They're five bat where
- 2:24Speaker 1: they were five back going last night. The Brewers are
- 2:26Speaker 1: a different animal. They were going to make the playoffs.
- 2:29Speaker 1: So it was a fun game. Eight two hot dogs.
- 2:32Speaker 1: There were some famous people there. Tom Morello from Regagain's Machine, Yeah, wow,
- 2:37Speaker 1: guitar player, all right, Kevin, come on, Eddie.
- 2:40Speaker 4: Was at your first time at Wrigley.
- 2:42Speaker 3: No, it's my second time, but it's my first time
- 2:44Speaker 3: with those seats.
- 2:46Speaker 1: They had the picture actually, yeah, we're probably like seven
- 2:50Speaker 1: rows back from home plate.
- 2:51Speaker 4: That's legit.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Yeah, you see everything.
- 2:55Speaker 5: And the coolest thing that I liked from the ang
- 2:57Speaker 5: we were at was just to see the curvature of
- 2:59Speaker 5: the ball when it gets hit, just to kind of
- 3:01Speaker 5: see like, oh man, that's going let know it's not
- 3:04Speaker 5: it's curving right, And then you see the outfielder try.
- 3:06Speaker 4: We can see the up against the pole, like the
- 3:08Speaker 4: line on the pole, isn't that crazy? The outfielders like
- 3:10Speaker 4: how they get the tail, and you're just like you
- 3:11Speaker 4: read that.
- 3:12Speaker 1: It was fun. Wait, a good time, that's awesome. We
- 3:14Speaker 1: spent all day in Chicago yesterday. I went to promote
- 3:18Speaker 1: a bit of the other podcast that I do with
- 3:20Speaker 1: Matt Castle, because this one doesn't need this one's a baller.
- 3:23Speaker 3: Did you throw our podcast in there just.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Like this one? I didn't. I went up with intention
- 3:30Speaker 1: of that one to promote that one.
- 3:33Speaker 4: I remember, we don't need it right right?
- 3:36Speaker 3: Well, you know you know what Bobby said, Kevin?
- 3:37Speaker 5: He he because he went into we saw I saw
- 3:40Speaker 5: two of your interviews out of the three, and the
- 3:43Speaker 5: one that they weren't broadcasting, and we.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Won the Cubs one too, So you saw three of
- 3:46Speaker 1: the four.
- 3:46Speaker 5: Okay, yeah, three of the four. But the one that
- 3:49Speaker 5: we did not watch. He comes out, He's like, oh man,
- 3:51Speaker 5: you guys didn't watch that three? You guys are shout up?
- 3:54Speaker 1: Really I did? I swear to god, I'm like, did
- 3:56Speaker 1: the one that I didn't see?
- 3:57Speaker 3: You threw a shout out out?
- 3:59Speaker 1: So I get there, and that's you know, Barstool's a
- 4:01Speaker 1: mostly male audience, so it's a different audience that can
- 4:05Speaker 1: be exposed to me and to hopefully some of them
- 4:08Speaker 1: will go and sample lots to say like that's the goal,
- 4:11Speaker 1: and so go up. And I do mostly sports with
- 4:14Speaker 1: Brandon Walker and Mark Titus, who I'm a big fan of.
- 4:16Speaker 1: And so they do their show. It's a YouTube show
- 4:18Speaker 1: they do every day and it's a podcast, and they
- 4:19Speaker 1: do their show live every day, same time. And so
- 4:21Speaker 1: I hop into that show and I walked in and
- 4:25Speaker 1: they had already started a few minutes earlier. So I
- 4:28Speaker 1: was a little discombobulated because I had never met them
- 4:31Speaker 1: in person. I'd only been on one of their shows
- 4:34Speaker 1: through this studio when I room did a virtual. So
- 4:38Speaker 1: I walked in and I was like, oh, and they're
- 4:39Speaker 1: already going. So I just sat down on the couch
- 4:41Speaker 1: and I liked it because I just kind of jumped in,
- 4:43Speaker 1: just kind of fell in and they asked me some stuff.
- 4:46Speaker 1: But I did plug the podcast that Matt and I
- 4:48Speaker 1: did and we just did an hour talking about all
- 4:50Speaker 1: kinds of stuff. I didn't say aything about Eddie, you know,
- 4:52Speaker 1: really come up and George Burger is with us was
- 4:55Speaker 1: a friend of ours, but George now has two number
- 4:57Speaker 1: ones and had something come up about new country music.
- 5:00Speaker 1: I had to give in Georgia shout out didn't come up.
- 5:01Speaker 1: I knew they were watching on the television out in
- 5:04Speaker 1: the main lobby. There's like a room they have. It's
- 5:06Speaker 1: like a chill out room, Okay, but I didn't really
- 5:09Speaker 1: feel the need to like shot them out, nobody like
- 5:12Speaker 1: force them. The other one they watched was called The
- 5:14Speaker 1: Yak and it's like an hour forty five minute YouTube
- 5:17Speaker 1: show podcast and it's like everybody that's up there all
- 5:20Speaker 1: sitting around and I did the gauntlet and you're going
- 5:22Speaker 1: in the.
- 5:22Speaker 4: Gym and you do all these Oh yeah, I've seen
- 5:24Speaker 4: clips and videos of that, like shooting and I crushed it.
- 5:27Speaker 3: Did you he crushed it, Kevin?
- 5:30Speaker 1: I crushed it. I'm not here to gasp myself up
- 5:34Speaker 1: because there are many times I don't crush stuff. But
- 5:36Speaker 1: it starts off with a bean bag, cornhole, cornhall, ok.
- 5:41Speaker 1: And you can't touch a bag, and they go go
- 5:44Speaker 1: and you have to grab and start throwing one at
- 5:45Speaker 1: a time. I grab one bag across the gym, nailed
- 5:47Speaker 1: it first, right in the whole, nothing but hole, and
- 5:50Speaker 1: I was like, oh God, So then I go I
- 5:52Speaker 1: suck kicking. But of the first three balls, one of
- 5:54Speaker 1: my balls went in and it focker. Okay, right, hey, okay,
- 6:00Speaker 1: classic American. I didn't see it go in, but they
- 6:04Speaker 1: were watching the line and apparently the ball went behind
- 6:06Speaker 1: the goalie's hand over the line. I kept kicking the
- 6:08Speaker 1: like no, no, it went, so I went. The next
- 6:10Speaker 1: thing is a whiffle ball and you have to throw
- 6:12Speaker 1: it to yourself. I had a home run over this
- 6:14Speaker 1: out of the gym. The timing's weird because you're throwing
- 6:17Speaker 1: it to yourself and try, dude, I ripped it. Home run.
- 6:19Speaker 1: First swing gone. The next one is a quarterback throw
- 6:22Speaker 1: with the hole and you got to throw the ball through.
- 6:24Speaker 1: The first throw through the hole, dang, and I'm like,
- 6:27Speaker 1: I'm on fire. I lose my shoe on the gym
- 6:29Speaker 1: in the basket, so my shoe comes off and I'm
- 6:32Speaker 1: one showed. And I hit my fourth three pointer of
- 6:35Speaker 1: the four, they have a rack, so I shoot one,
- 6:36Speaker 1: almost made the first one one of them. The third
- 6:38Speaker 1: was an air ball, and I was like, calm down, drill.
- 6:40Speaker 1: The fourth one go across drill did the whole thing
- 6:42Speaker 1: in like thirty six seconds, so I was really feeling
- 6:45Speaker 1: great about that. Yeah. I did the whole interview with them.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Never said anything about Eddie. Sorry, buddy. They didn't ask
- 6:50Speaker 1: about it, didn't expect it really right. Did the Cubs
- 6:52Speaker 1: one and they were in the room, and it's the
- 6:55Speaker 1: channel in Chicago that has the Cubs the Bears. It's
- 6:58Speaker 1: called the Marque Network, it's television NETW didn't really bring
- 7:01Speaker 1: up Eddie or George. There was no reason. Yeah, it
- 7:03Speaker 1: didn't come out. It came up on this other podcast
- 7:05Speaker 1: that I did called Macrodosing, which they do a lot
- 7:09Speaker 1: of culture stuff. They talk about sports a little bit.
- 7:11Speaker 1: And I go in and one of the guys that
- 7:14Speaker 1: hosts it is very popular. His name is well, not
- 7:18Speaker 1: your real name, but pft.
- 7:20Speaker 4: Yah is what he go yeah by him very popular.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Yeah, and so he was like, hey, I still he
- 7:24Speaker 1: was in Austin for like eight years, just like I
- 7:26Speaker 1: used to listen to your show all the time. And
- 7:28Speaker 1: he was like, it's crazy that you have all these
- 7:29Speaker 1: people you've always worked with, And I was like, yeah,
- 7:31Speaker 1: Like they didn't give us any money. So I just
- 7:34Speaker 1: brought in my friends, and I was like, my friend
- 7:36Speaker 1: out here today. Eddie's not my best friend, but he's
- 7:38Speaker 1: also been on my show now for twelve years. Because
- 7:41Speaker 1: I just surround myself with people that put me in
- 7:43Speaker 1: a better place. And so I gave Eddie a shout out.
- 7:45Speaker 1: And then we're talking about music, and I was like,
- 7:47Speaker 1: you know, there's a lot of music like in Nashville.
- 7:49Speaker 1: You just naturally are embedded in it if you're in
- 7:52Speaker 1: the industry. I was like, my friend George out here,
- 7:54Speaker 1: George Burg's the two number one songs that he's like
- 7:56Speaker 1: part of our group, Like it's just a and so
- 7:57Speaker 1: I getting both a shout out and I came out.
- 7:59Speaker 1: I didn't know they weren't on TV. I didn't know
- 8:01Speaker 1: it was the one that we weren't able to watch.
- 8:04Speaker 1: I didn't know it wasn't I didn't even have an option, no,
- 8:06Speaker 1: because they were watching a different show. The other guys
- 8:08Speaker 1: watching like a different betting show or something.
- 8:09Speaker 3: Yeah, we were there with like other interns in the room.
- 8:11Speaker 4: Yeah, so young guys.
- 8:14Speaker 1: I didn't know they couldn't see it, but I didn't
- 8:15Speaker 1: say it because they were there. But I did give
- 8:17Speaker 1: a shout out. I was like, I shouted you guys out.
- 8:18Speaker 1: They're like, shut up, we watched three hours. You never
- 8:21Speaker 1: said anything about us. Yeah.
- 8:23Speaker 5: Coincidentally, the one that we couldn't see, he shouted us out. No,
- 8:27Speaker 5: we appreciate that though, dude, thank you man.
- 8:28Speaker 1: You didn't have to do that.
- 8:29Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 8:30Speaker 4: I didn't do you feel the pressure at all, like
- 8:32Speaker 4: when you're on the other three, Like I know you
- 8:34Speaker 4: said shout them out? Yeah, okay, just making sure like
- 8:37Speaker 4: I don't know, there's no pressure. I know there isn't,
- 8:39Speaker 4: but I'm just saying, this is.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Not nineteen ninety nine party line. You calling us out
- 8:43Speaker 1: to your friend on the radio.
- 8:45Speaker 4: I know, but I can see Eddie like sitting in
- 8:46Speaker 4: the back looking at you like.
- 8:47Speaker 3: No, no, why I like, yeah, I'll save my name name.
- 8:51Speaker 5: Honestly, if you would have never said anything, I wouldn't
- 8:53Speaker 5: even thought like did you give me a shout out?
- 8:55Speaker 1: No?
- 8:55Speaker 5: But he came out of like straight out of the studio,
- 8:57Speaker 5: was like, man, did you guys see that I just
- 8:58Speaker 5: gave you a shout out?
- 8:59Speaker 1: You know that we can't see. I didn't know they
- 9:01Speaker 1: couldn't see.
- 9:02Speaker 4: That's funny.
- 9:02Speaker 1: I didn't know.
- 9:03Speaker 3: So yeah, awesome day.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I kind of felt bad for them because they
- 9:08Speaker 1: had to sit there for like four hours. They did
- 9:09Speaker 1: all these interviews.
- 9:10Speaker 3: Dude, barstool. That place is like it's like sports heaven.
- 9:14Speaker 1: It's all dudes, just about all. They got a full gym.
- 9:17Speaker 1: You had a workout gym. That's a golf simulated dude,
- 9:22Speaker 1: you name it.
- 9:24Speaker 5: The way I told my wife is like if our
- 9:26Speaker 5: boys had their own business and they're like, you get
- 9:29Speaker 5: to decorate it however you want, do whatever you want,
- 9:31Speaker 5: That's how we would be.
- 9:32Speaker 4: That would be it right there.
- 9:34Speaker 1: And it's just a bunch of dudes. I'm sure they're
- 9:35Speaker 1: doing jobs, but just sitting around like on laptops. You know. Again,
- 9:40Speaker 1: I'm sure they're working right things. But and then there's
- 9:42Speaker 1: all these rooms they go and do a podcasts and stuff.
- 9:44Speaker 4: Is that their main hub or is it in New York?
- 9:45Speaker 1: Do you know? So their main hub was only in
- 9:48Speaker 1: New York. They opened this one up, but they're moving
- 9:49Speaker 1: out in New York. Struck, I don't know. That's now
- 9:51Speaker 1: the one that's where they shoot the TV show Front
- 9:53Speaker 1: they just started on Fox.
- 9:54Speaker 4: Oh okay, cool.
- 9:55Speaker 1: So it was great and I was super happy that
- 9:57Speaker 1: they had me come on all the shows got some
- 10:00Speaker 1: press for the podcast that we do love it. Went
- 10:02Speaker 1: to the game. We went to the sky deck, which
- 10:05Speaker 1: is what that is, the top of the used to
- 10:06Speaker 1: be the Sears Tower, the tallest building in America. Oh yeah,
- 10:08Speaker 1: it does anymore. But we went up on top of that.
- 10:10Speaker 1: And so you just go up to the top and
- 10:12Speaker 1: look out a window. What do you think that ticket cost?
- 10:15Speaker 3: Oh no, no, no, no, no, no, you're on vacation.
- 10:18Speaker 4: Yeah no, no, okay, just go You're just going to
- 10:20Speaker 4: the top and just seeing the scenic views, right, that's
- 10:22Speaker 4: what we're doing.
- 10:22Speaker 1: There's no there's nothing to do up there. No, you
- 10:24Speaker 1: just look out, look out.
- 10:26Speaker 4: I'll say forty five dollars.
- 10:29Speaker 1: It is taking the story not that good.
- 10:33Speaker 4: I mean, it's Chicago.
- 10:34Speaker 1: It's a it's sixty bucks, yeah, sixty five bucks a ticket. Yeah,
- 10:38Speaker 1: And I was like we should go up to this.
- 10:39Speaker 1: So I was like, I'll pay for everybody's because I
- 10:42Speaker 1: one that made him come there. I don't want to
- 10:43Speaker 1: pay for sixty five bucks for something they didn't really
- 10:44Speaker 1: want to do. So we all went up. So I
- 10:47Speaker 1: paid like two hund and fifty bucks for us to
- 10:48Speaker 1: go and look out a window. And then I was like, yeah,
- 10:51Speaker 1: this is pretty high. It's cool, but we were in
- 10:52Speaker 1: an airplane earlier that was higher. That's a good point,
- 10:56Speaker 1: a good and it had windows. It is a good point.
- 11:00Speaker 1: And so I also we got on this part of
- 11:02Speaker 1: the glass like goes out over the city and you
- 11:05Speaker 1: stand on it and the bottom's out and they take
- 11:07Speaker 1: a picture of you. There's a camera up and so me, Eddie,
- 11:10Speaker 1: George and Morgan got in the picture. And then I
- 11:13Speaker 1: bought the pictures, like forty bucks for the four pictures,
- 11:15Speaker 1: about four of them for it was about the four
- 11:18Speaker 1: pictures for us. And Morgan's like, okay the pictures she
- 11:20Speaker 1: left them in the car list. Oh no, Morgan, Yeah,
- 11:25Speaker 1: no pictures.
- 11:25Speaker 5: I'm sure those pictures were awesome. You can see the
- 11:28Speaker 5: whole city underneath your feet.
- 11:30Speaker 4: Yeah, that is cool. Was it scary at all?
- 11:32Speaker 5: That part was because it's just glass, Dude, you're standing
- 11:35Speaker 5: on glass. But I was like, that's not scary, Like I.
- 11:38Speaker 1: Hate heids, but I knew weren't.
- 11:39Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of heights.
- 11:41Speaker 1: We were gonna fall any We're gonna die. Yeah, I
- 11:44Speaker 1: will say though, man, like the way you like to
- 11:47Speaker 1: see sight see, I love it, like I wish that.
- 11:50Speaker 1: That's how my family would you describe how like the sight? See? Absolutely,
- 11:54Speaker 1: buy the ticket, go look at it? Cool?
- 11:57Speaker 3: You guys ready, And it's like.
- 12:00Speaker 1: We saw it. We saw everything we needed to see.
- 12:02Speaker 5: We can did a little m I'll look at that,
- 12:04Speaker 5: took pictures, and then we leave, and then he wants
- 12:06Speaker 5: he wants to like, you want to go see the bean? Yeah,
- 12:08Speaker 5: I did some about nine blocks away. I've seen the
- 12:10Speaker 5: bean in pictures. Let's go check it out. We get
- 12:13Speaker 5: to the bean, you.
- 12:14Speaker 1: Want to take a picture. Cool, gosh, this thing's huge.
- 12:17Speaker 1: All right, you guys ready to go.
- 12:18Speaker 4: That's amazing and we did. We should all be like that,
- 12:22Speaker 4: I agree, because like, okay, you see it now what
- 12:24Speaker 4: I in here and looking keep looking.
- 12:26Speaker 5: At it, and like my family would be like, let's
- 12:27Speaker 5: buy popsicles and let's just sit by the bean for
- 12:29Speaker 5: a little like why what were we doing?
- 12:30Speaker 1: Get out of here? Yeah? I didn't think about it.
- 12:32Speaker 1: That's kind of how I live my life. Yeah, Okay,
- 12:34Speaker 1: got everything I can possibly get out of it, and
- 12:35Speaker 1: I don't want to feel any more miserable being here,
- 12:37Speaker 1: so let's just go ahead and and kick rocks and
- 12:39Speaker 1: get out. So yeah, we had a good twelve hour
- 12:41Speaker 1: trip to Chicago.
- 12:42Speaker 4: Yeah, that's cool. I like Chicago a lot.
- 12:44Speaker 1: Yeah, when it's not cold.
- 12:46Speaker 4: I've never been there when it's freezing.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Don't don't go Siberia. I ever heard of it? Uh yeah, yeah,
- 12:50Speaker 1: it's like that same. It's brutal. I love Chicago, but
- 12:54Speaker 1: brutal in the winter.
- 12:55Speaker 4: Food is so good.
- 12:55Speaker 1: Though. We did our draft of teams. So I've been
- 13:01Speaker 1: in this league the last couple of years. I've talked
- 13:02Speaker 1: about on the show, but I give a quick recap,
- 13:05Speaker 1: and it's me and five other guys, five other teams,
- 13:07Speaker 1: six people, and you each draft six teams and every
- 13:10Speaker 1: time you team wins, you make money. Every time your
- 13:11Speaker 1: team loses, you lose money. But it gets hard around
- 13:13Speaker 1: rounds three, four, and five to get teams that are
- 13:15Speaker 1: good because they're all just gone. And the first year
- 13:18Speaker 1: I did, I lost like two thousand dollars. Second year
- 13:21Speaker 1: lost like a few hundred bucks. Thirty year, last year
- 13:24Speaker 1: I made like four thousand dollars. Yeah, and I don't
- 13:28Speaker 1: think I figured it out, but I had a strategy
- 13:30Speaker 1: going in because I've played it a couple of times,
- 13:31Speaker 1: and so on this show, it's like you guys want
- 13:33Speaker 1: to get in, but there's no limit to what you
- 13:34Speaker 1: can lose, but there's also no limit to what you
- 13:37Speaker 1: can gain. We had Matt stell on, who's our friend,
- 13:40Speaker 1: and he was like, yeah, somebody lost like ten thousand
- 13:42Speaker 1: dollars one like ten whatever it was. So you guys
- 13:45Speaker 1: decided to come in at twenty five and twenty five
- 13:47Speaker 1: percent yep, and I'm fifty percent. So I text everybody.
- 13:51Speaker 1: I'm like, hey, the draft is at eight o'clock of
- 13:53Speaker 1: these teams, and you guys be on text and I'll
- 13:58Speaker 1: try to update you as we're going. But it moved fast,
- 14:01Speaker 1: and so Kevin's like, I'm putting the babies down and
- 14:03Speaker 1: I got to shoot some influencer videos. Oh no, some
- 14:06Speaker 1: drink station, yeah, priorities. And Eddie's like cool, Well I
- 14:10Speaker 1: knew Kevin was with the kids. I said, Eddie the zoom,
- 14:12Speaker 1: lenk just hop on the zoom that I'm on when
- 14:13Speaker 1: we do the draft. So Eddie gets on the zoom
- 14:15Speaker 1: so he's able to text without me even texting him,
- 14:18Speaker 1: like he's listening in. And at first you bid on
- 14:22Speaker 1: who gets to pick their draft slot. So I've done
- 14:26Speaker 1: this a few times now and I know you can
- 14:27Speaker 1: get a pretty good draft spot for pretty cheap early.
- 14:29Speaker 1: So I'm like two hundred bucks, I want to pick
- 14:31Speaker 1: my spot, and they're like great. So I picked the
- 14:33Speaker 1: third spot because it's snake draft.
- 14:34Speaker 4: Okay.
- 14:35Speaker 1: So if I had to pick first, you get a
- 14:36Speaker 1: Buffalo or Baltimore or whatever, and then you have to
- 14:38Speaker 1: wait till pick freaking twelve. Right, So I pay two
- 14:41Speaker 1: hundred bucks and I get spot three because I feel
- 14:43Speaker 1: like there are three teams in that A tier. We
- 14:47Speaker 1: paid two hundred, right, No, I paid one hundred and
- 14:49Speaker 1: pay fifty fifty. You don't have to pay. It happens
- 14:50Speaker 1: at the end of they put it on your bill
- 14:52Speaker 1: or take it off your bill. Okay, So what are
- 14:54Speaker 1: you thinks that three teams are on the A tier?
- 14:56Speaker 4: The eight tier would be in my in my mind,
- 14:59Speaker 4: you get there, it could be more, Okay, Buffalo, Baltimore,
- 15:06Speaker 4: in Philadelphia.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Kansas City.
- 15:08Speaker 4: I was gonna say Kansas It's I'm not trying to
- 15:11Speaker 4: be a hater.
- 15:11Speaker 1: But oh yeah, you hate Kansas City. I forgot because
- 15:13Speaker 1: they threatened the Patriots.
- 15:15Speaker 4: But it was between Philly and Kansas City, if that helps.
- 15:18Speaker 1: Okay, So in Philly you could put in the eight
- 15:21Speaker 1: tier for sure. Yeah, I didn't because you know, my
- 15:23Speaker 1: friends a Cowboys fan, and I respect that.
- 15:25Speaker 3: I appreciate that. Yeah, and I was watching too.
- 15:27Speaker 1: So I get the third pick and I'm like, boom so,
- 15:30Speaker 1: first pick Buffalo figured, second pick Baltimore figured. I'm like,
- 15:33Speaker 1: I'm sitting here, I'm gonna ta Kansas City. So I
- 15:36Speaker 1: take Kansas City, feeling good about that. Had kan City
- 15:38Speaker 1: last year made me a lot of money. So four
- 15:41Speaker 1: or five six happens. Then it goes six five, four
- 15:43Speaker 1: to three back to me and I'm ready to take
- 15:46Speaker 1: the Packers, which, by the way, I was looking at
- 15:50Speaker 1: the odds Super Bowl odds for this year Buffalo and
- 15:54Speaker 1: Baltimore at plus six hundred of the leaders Philadelphia, then
- 15:57Speaker 1: the Chiefs, then the Packers, then the Lions, then the Commanders,
- 16:03Speaker 1: then the forty nine ers. Well, so I was like,
- 16:07Speaker 1: I think the Packers, but the Bengals are all. I
- 16:09Speaker 1: was telling Ddie beforehanded, somebody's probably gon take the Packers,
- 16:11Speaker 1: but if they don't, we should take the Packers. If
- 16:14Speaker 1: they take the Packers, take the Bengals. And he's like, Bengals,
- 16:17Speaker 1: I like Cincy, and I'm like in my mind, I'm going, man,
- 16:22Speaker 1: I would take the Packers, but I like Cincinnati too,
- 16:25Speaker 1: And I just sent the text, no, no, no, you
- 16:28Speaker 1: were fighting for the I sent the text.
- 16:30Speaker 3: I was like, I like Cincinnati.
- 16:32Speaker 4: And then it came to Bobby and the Packers were there.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Were there. You should have heard his voice. He was like, yeah,
- 16:39Speaker 1: let's go. Yeah, we'll go Bengals. Oh no, I didn't
- 16:48Speaker 1: want to not give you guys a voice.
- 16:50Speaker 4: I know.
- 16:51Speaker 5: Would you have gone Packers? Yes, yeah, yeah, just based
- 16:55Speaker 5: on pre season and expectations.
- 16:58Speaker 4: Absolutely anything. I mean, I love Joe Burrow. Their offense
- 17:01Speaker 4: is awesome. But anything you know about the Bengals are
- 17:04Speaker 4: the first four weeks, are probably gonna lose three games.
- 17:06Speaker 1: They didn't make the playoff last year.
- 17:08Speaker 4: They didn't make the playoff last year.
- 17:09Speaker 1: They played great at the end.
- 17:11Speaker 4: Yeah, they almost squeaked in.
- 17:12Speaker 1: They don't have a defense. I think the Bengals are
- 17:15Speaker 1: gonna be pretty good this year. I do. And also
- 17:17Speaker 1: in their division, I who knows what captain with Pittsburgh,
- 17:21Speaker 1: the brown suck, yeah, man, but the Ravens are really
- 17:24Speaker 1: good m hm. And so that's all the division, right, yeah?
- 17:28Speaker 1: So I and I'd look back and I said to him, Hey, Packers,
- 17:33Speaker 1: if they're not there to take the Bengals, what do
- 17:35Speaker 1: you think. I just want to say that I agree. Look,
- 17:37Speaker 1: if I being honest, I just wanted them to go,
- 17:39Speaker 1: like I agree. Yeah, but he didn't, and I respect that.
- 17:41Speaker 1: I respect because you guys are putting money in for sure. Yeah,
- 17:43Speaker 1: so I said, Okay, Bengals, and I'll be rooting hard
- 17:45Speaker 1: for the Bengals. And I hope I'm wrong.
- 17:47Speaker 3: I hope, I hope I'm right. Gosh, I hope I'm
- 17:50Speaker 3: right because I'll.
- 17:50Speaker 1: Never hear the end of it. You won't, I will not.
- 17:53Speaker 1: I hope they both could win though too good. It
- 17:56Speaker 1: doesn't have to be one or the other. So, but
- 17:58Speaker 1: that's that situation on that So it goes over to
- 18:00Speaker 1: the Bengals and wraps back around. And I believe in
- 18:05Speaker 1: round three I took the Bucks.
- 18:07Speaker 5: Yeah, at that point, there was no like Eddie, what
- 18:08Speaker 5: do you think? It was just like I got this,
- 18:10Speaker 5: I got this, get a drink, whatever you want, dude.
- 18:14Speaker 1: At round three, I took the Bucks. I feel like
- 18:16Speaker 1: they play in a week division love that one. I
- 18:18Speaker 1: feel like they can. Yeah, I just like the Bucks. Yeah,
- 18:21Speaker 1: I died too, and then great offensive line, especially when
- 18:25Speaker 1: they come back fully healthy. Yep uh. And then round four.
- 18:28Speaker 1: There aren't a lot of teams left. After round three,
- 18:31Speaker 1: you're talking about eighteen teams gone. Now they're picking teams
- 18:34Speaker 1: to lose as well, because you pick a team to
- 18:35Speaker 1: lose and if they lose. But the problem with picking
- 18:37Speaker 1: teams to lose is once the playoffs start, you can't
- 18:40Speaker 1: make any more money except for maximum one time. If
- 18:43Speaker 1: one of your good team makes it and then loses,
- 18:47Speaker 1: and you pick them to lose, but probably didn't pick
- 18:48Speaker 1: a good team. It's the whole thing. You don't really
- 18:51Speaker 1: So I picked. I took the Patriots in your honor. Now,
- 18:54Speaker 1: you didn't tell me to do that, so I'm not
- 18:55Speaker 1: gonna blame you. But I no, I didn't know, so
- 19:01Speaker 1: our four and then I tried the old trick again.
- 19:03Speaker 1: But it doesn't matter because they're off the board. I
- 19:05Speaker 1: have Miami Dolphins to lose, Miami Dolphins to win, So
- 19:08Speaker 1: that's they're dead. Yeah, they kncel each other out right, Yes, Okay,
- 19:11Speaker 1: so we have four teams, made them all to win.
- 19:13Speaker 1: We really need three of the four to win. Every week.
- 19:15Speaker 4: I was wondering if you picked the Patriots, Like if
- 19:18Speaker 4: I had any influence on that.
- 19:19Speaker 1: Oh yeah for sure, but not so much that I
- 19:22Speaker 1: irrationally just jumped into the Patriots. There were no teams left.
- 19:25Speaker 1: It was around that time, and I thought, okay, there's
- 19:28Speaker 1: like four teams I think are about the same. And
- 19:30Speaker 1: I was like, I think Kevin would like it if
- 19:31Speaker 1: since they're all the same. In my mind, if I
- 19:33Speaker 1: went with the Patriots because we're already it makes us
- 19:35Speaker 1: root for them too. Yep, I love it, and you
- 19:36Speaker 1: have a Patriots had one to pay perfect thank you.
- 19:39Speaker 1: So those are our four teams.
- 19:40Speaker 4: Okay, I feel pretty good.
- 19:42Speaker 3: I've never rooted for those four teams ever in my life.
- 19:45Speaker 1: The Cowboys were only picked once and to lose. Yes,
- 19:48Speaker 1: the first year that's ever happened. Somebody always picks them
- 19:51Speaker 1: to win. They were never picked to win. They were
- 19:53Speaker 1: only picked to lose. They're playing tonight. How do you feel?
- 19:56Speaker 5: I feel great? I just I feel so good. I'm
- 19:59Speaker 5: just so glad season starting. This is an exciting feeling.
- 20:02Speaker 1: Dude. Eagles eight and a half point favorite.
- 20:04Speaker 3: Not worried about it, that is, I don't think we're
- 20:07Speaker 3: gonna it.
- 20:07Speaker 1: Does it does keep going up? Oh?
- 20:10Speaker 4: Really?
- 20:10Speaker 1: I'm gonna be if it's still eight and a half
- 20:12Speaker 1: right now, I'm gonna bit heavy on the Cowboys.
- 20:13Speaker 4: I think it started at seven, it's seven and a half.
- 20:16Speaker 3: That was yeah ago, and now it's it'll be nine
- 20:20Speaker 3: by the time the games.
- 20:21Speaker 4: I mean, that's a lot in the NFL.
- 20:23Speaker 1: I'm telling you this too. I am on such a heater.
- 20:26Speaker 1: Did you hear my baseball story or no?
- 20:28Speaker 3: No, no, tell him?
- 20:29Speaker 1: Were doing the show, the podcast? On the show, I
- 20:31Speaker 1: need to beat this cowboy real quick, had a boy
- 20:34Speaker 1: I did? They're still plus eight and a half.
- 20:37Speaker 3: All right, I'm go.
- 20:38Speaker 1: I mean, dude, it's gonna be closer than that.
- 20:41Speaker 4: You gotta you gotta think.
- 20:42Speaker 3: I don't think we'll win the game.
- 20:43Speaker 1: Oh god, if he's thinking that, I don't have that
- 20:45Speaker 1: it anymore. I don't think we'll win the game. But
- 20:47Speaker 1: it's got to be closer than that.
- 20:49Speaker 4: So much in the NFL, it is okay.
- 20:51Speaker 1: I'm gonna put two and fifty bucks on Cowboys plus
- 20:54Speaker 1: eight and a half. Let's go. Last night we had yeah,
- 20:58Speaker 1: the DraftKings you can use in NOI we get there
- 21:01Speaker 1: and Eddie's betting on every bat.
- 21:03Speaker 3: The Cubs is awesome. Ever strike next.
- 21:06Speaker 1: As soon as we get there, he goes, we should
- 21:07Speaker 1: bet first inning, and I'm just there. I love the
- 21:09Speaker 1: Cubs and a regularly with my boys, got great seats,
- 21:13Speaker 1: get hooked up with great seats and just enjoyed it.
- 21:17Speaker 1: Got a couple of hot dogs. And he's like, no,
- 21:19Speaker 1: it's just this bet.
- 21:20Speaker 4: I don't really I don't.
- 21:22Speaker 1: I don't really need that. But he I guess why not, right,
- 21:26Speaker 1: You're in it.
- 21:27Speaker 4: Awesome.
- 21:27Speaker 1: So he's beat and he's bet we go no runs
- 21:30Speaker 1: first inning. Now I'll say it again for the sake
- 21:33Speaker 1: of the story. Obviously, I want the Cubs to win,
- 21:35Speaker 1: but we both bet no runs first. Braids come up,
- 21:39Speaker 1: go down, one, two, three. We're like halfway there, and
- 21:42Speaker 1: for the first time I live, I'm rooting against the
- 21:43Speaker 1: Cubs to score. And the bottom halving the first quietly,
- 21:49Speaker 1: and so we're watching and you know, ground out, pop fly,
- 21:52Speaker 1: pop fly, and then strike out, and we were like,
- 22:00Speaker 1: you know, in your Cubs gear.
- 22:04Speaker 5: So hey, I even I even went over the top
- 22:06Speaker 5: of like, I was all right, boy, we'll get a
- 22:08Speaker 5: mixed tap mixed up.
- 22:11Speaker 1: We're sitting like right behind the plate and we were like,
- 22:15Speaker 1: so I've got like one hundred fifty bucks made one
- 22:18Speaker 1: hundred fifty bucks.
- 22:19Speaker 4: Nice.
- 22:19Speaker 1: Nice, So I don't really bet anymore. But I'm watching
- 22:22Speaker 1: Eddie over there, just tinkering away, like just got trying
- 22:26Speaker 1: to predict it. I live Santana home run. He's bet
- 22:28Speaker 1: like one dollar. He's like, if I hit this, I
- 22:30Speaker 1: went forty dollars.
- 22:32Speaker 4: Nice.
- 22:33Speaker 1: And So a couple endings go by and it's zero
- 22:36Speaker 1: zero and I've eating amal hot dogs.
- 22:40Speaker 3: You're watching me.
- 22:42Speaker 1: Why not if fun, it'll give us something to talk about,
- 22:44Speaker 1: it something bind about. And so come in. So I
- 22:48Speaker 1: bet on a couple, win a couple. First inning. I
- 22:50Speaker 1: think I make like one hundred bucks or something overall,
- 22:51Speaker 1: because I bet like fifty bucks here or twenty five
- 22:53Speaker 1: bucks here. Next inning, I'd made a little, but I
- 22:56Speaker 1: was like, I'm gonna bet two hundred bucks on a single. Now,
- 23:01Speaker 1: it can't be a double triple home run. It can't
- 23:03Speaker 1: be a ground out, it can't be a strikeout, it
- 23:04Speaker 1: can't be a walk back. It's gotta be an exact single.
- 23:08Speaker 1: So i'bout two hundred bucks single, made a thousand bucks.
- 23:12Speaker 4: Shut up?
- 23:13Speaker 1: It was crazy. We jumped up like we just the
- 23:16Speaker 1: power ball.
- 23:16Speaker 3: Hey, hey, and it was up in the air.
- 23:18Speaker 1: He just hit it short. So they just hit the
- 23:20Speaker 1: gap flow flow float land there. Because it was a single,
- 23:28Speaker 1: it was awesome.
- 23:29Speaker 3: It was so that is awesome, amazing.
- 23:32Speaker 4: It's amazing, especially because it wasn't like right away you
- 23:35Speaker 4: knew it as a single, like if there's some build
- 23:36Speaker 4: up to the ball in the air.
- 23:38Speaker 1: And we were there, like how often do you get
- 23:40Speaker 1: a big hit when you're actually there right off of
- 23:42Speaker 1: something so random? So random, it was crazy.
- 23:45Speaker 4: That's amazing.
- 23:46Speaker 1: Yeah, not gonna lie even.
- 23:47Speaker 4: I was like Cowboys tonight, but I've been high.
- 23:50Speaker 1: I've been hot hot, so because I crushed last week. Listen,
- 23:54Speaker 1: I'm not a good better. I'm a fine better. I'm
- 23:56Speaker 1: an average better. I would say not a bad better,
- 23:59Speaker 1: but not a good better. So I don't think what
- 24:01Speaker 1: I say is the gospel. I'm not that guy. I
- 24:03Speaker 1: don't have stone cold locks. I'm pretty hot right now.
- 24:07Speaker 1: Right the Cowboys plus.
- 24:10Speaker 4: Years ago, like first two months, you couldn't lose.
- 24:13Speaker 1: I won like ten individual in a row. Yeah that's good.
- 24:17Speaker 1: Maybe I'm back on that track. Oh so Cowboys plus
- 24:20Speaker 1: eight and a half, I love it, let's get it.
- 24:23Speaker 1: I did want to do a couple of because I
- 24:25Speaker 1: have college in NFL games I'm most interested in. I
- 24:28Speaker 1: want to go to college first. I have San Jose
- 24:31Speaker 1: at number seven Texas Texas a thirty six and a
- 24:34Speaker 1: half point favorite. I'm so interested because I'm I I
- 24:39Speaker 1: just want to watch Arch again. You want to see
- 24:41Speaker 1: him shine. I want to see him try to build
- 24:46Speaker 1: a career, like like fairly try to be a quarterback
- 24:52Speaker 1: and not have to play the number one team in
- 24:55Speaker 1: the country. Well Texas was number one Tech, yeah, Texas one,
- 24:59Speaker 1: but not I played like the defense in the country's
- 25:00Speaker 1: first game, and then everybody jump on him. I hate that.
- 25:03Speaker 1: I'm rooting for Arch. I hate it, Mike, I hate
- 25:06Speaker 1: it so much. I love it. I like Arch. I
- 25:08Speaker 1: think it's because I like the Mannings in general, and
- 25:12Speaker 1: so I'm rooting for Arch.
- 25:13Speaker 3: No, you're not rooting for Arch the Longhorn.
- 25:15Speaker 1: I hate Texas.
- 25:16Speaker 4: You're just rooting for them.
- 25:17Speaker 1: Rooting for Arch Man I am because I hate when
- 25:20Speaker 1: people jump on somebody and go they're done, write them off.
- 25:24Speaker 1: It was like, that's why I became such a big
- 25:25Speaker 1: Kaitlin Clark fan, because she was obviously awesome coming out
- 25:28Speaker 1: of college at Iowa. But I wasn't like I'm so,
- 25:31Speaker 1: but everyone's like, there's no chance she's gonna do this,
- 25:33Speaker 1: and it was just like NonStop dragging. And then she
- 25:35Speaker 1: started the season. It wasn't hot because I came right
- 25:37Speaker 1: off right out of college a the WNBA people were
- 25:39Speaker 1: killing her, and I was like, I'm in. I couldn't
- 25:41Speaker 1: root harder for Kaitlin Clark, and so I became big
- 25:43Speaker 1: Kaitlyn Clark fan. I'm rooting for arch Ope Art throws
- 25:47Speaker 1: for five hundred yards and Texas loses. Yeah, I want
- 25:51Speaker 1: a jersey, So that game I'm interested in. I mentioned
- 25:54Speaker 1: in Oklahoma State at Oregon. Now Oregon's a twenty eight
- 25:57Speaker 1: and a half point favorite, but in one of the pressers,
- 25:59Speaker 1: they go to Dan Landing and they're like, you know,
- 26:01Speaker 1: oh Gundy, he said, you guys spent forty million on
- 26:04Speaker 1: your roster, and then Dan Lanning just slides into it
- 26:07Speaker 1: and goes, you know, we do invest a lot in
- 26:09Speaker 1: winning here at Oregon, and I feel like the teams
- 26:12Speaker 1: that don't invest a lot in winning, because you can
- 26:14Speaker 1: invest a lot in winning, or you can not invest
- 26:16Speaker 1: a lot and have an excuse for losing. And I
- 26:19Speaker 1: was like oh he he took him out to the
- 26:22Speaker 1: wooch Eden in a very nice way. Yes, And so
- 26:26Speaker 1: they're playing each other. I can't wait for it. That's awesome.
- 26:28Speaker 1: And Oregon's probably gonna serve it up. Yep. And I
- 26:31Speaker 1: like Okahoma State and I like Gundy. But I thought
- 26:33Speaker 1: that I liked that crying about money, like Oregon doesn't
- 26:39Speaker 1: have anything unfair. If you're crying about something unfair, I
- 26:44Speaker 1: get it.
- 26:45Speaker 3: Nike, but yeah, that's not unfair. Everybody can have a Nike.
- 26:47Speaker 1: He boom pickens dead. But billionaire built their stadium? Had
- 26:51Speaker 1: they have all the nice facilities? Like everything at different times?
- 26:54Speaker 1: Was that guy? What did he do? Oil Man? Oil Man?
- 26:57Speaker 4: Oil Man?
- 26:59Speaker 3: You still have his number?
- 27:01Speaker 1: Yeah? Every single texts.
- 27:02Speaker 4: Nope.
- 27:02Speaker 1: I don't text anybody. I don't want text me. I
- 27:04Speaker 1: don't want bother people want bother people. I could, but
- 27:08Speaker 1: you don't. I got the power of I could. I
- 27:12Speaker 1: got two other games college wise, Arizona State at Mississippi State.
- 27:16Speaker 1: This is interesting to me because will Arizona State and Dillingham.
- 27:22Speaker 1: They're a top fifteen team. They had a great end
- 27:24Speaker 1: of the year last year. They lost the Texas in
- 27:26Speaker 1: the playoff obviously, they're playing in nexts C school in
- 27:30Speaker 1: a NETSC stadium that is not supposedly good. But they
- 27:34Speaker 1: are on the slight rebuild and I like them now
- 27:36Speaker 1: because I watched any given Saturday. I like the coach,
- 27:39Speaker 1: I like Levy. I think both of those teams are
- 27:42Speaker 1: going to see who they are.
- 27:43Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm excited for that one too.
- 27:45Speaker 1: Like Mississippi State, they played Southern miss It was pretty
- 27:47Speaker 1: close for a while. Yeah. That that game is interesting
- 27:51Speaker 1: to me for a lot of reasons. It's a big
- 27:53Speaker 1: twelve school, it's a nexts C school, It's a team
- 27:56Speaker 1: on the come up, Arizona State like on a national level,
- 27:58Speaker 1: a prominent level, with a coach who Now like the
- 28:00Speaker 1: darling because he's like the youngest I think he's nine,
- 28:02Speaker 1: yeah years old. Yeah, he's been on the show too.
- 28:05Speaker 4: Yeah, forgot about him on last year during the playoff.
- 28:07Speaker 1: That's right, That to me is fun. But the big
- 28:10Speaker 1: game is Michigan at Oklahoma. Two top twenty teams, two
- 28:14Speaker 1: legendary teams. You got a five star quarterback and Bryce
- 28:17Speaker 1: Underwood at Michigan who played pretty well last week they
- 28:20Speaker 1: played New Mexico. I'm going from memory here. Look good
- 28:23Speaker 1: eighteen years old, just turned eighteen. Five star kid, and
- 28:27Speaker 1: they're going to Oklahoma. And Oklahoma has a possible Heisman
- 28:31Speaker 1: contender at quarterback. You know, the offensive coordinator and the
- 28:34Speaker 1: quarterback both came down from Washington State. So Oklahoma is
- 28:38Speaker 1: almost a touchdown favorite because they are playing in Oklahoma.
- 28:41Speaker 1: But that that game is interesting to me because it's
- 28:43Speaker 1: going to allow a lot of things to settle. How
- 28:45Speaker 1: good is Bryce Underwood when he's not supposed to be
- 28:48Speaker 1: Is that good? And he's supposed to be good but
- 28:49Speaker 1: he's eighteen.
- 28:51Speaker 4: Yeah, he doesn't have the like the hype that arch
- 28:53Speaker 4: nobody does. Nobody to that standard though, I'm saying, because
- 28:57Speaker 4: he is still like he plays for Michigan and they
- 28:59Speaker 4: had a down year last You're Oklahoma also had it
- 29:01Speaker 4: down yere.
- 29:01Speaker 1: Yeah, bad down.
- 29:02Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 29:03Speaker 1: So both those teams are gonna show something. I always
- 29:05Speaker 1: roote for the SEC team in situations like this, and
- 29:08Speaker 1: then because it's my family's team, I root for them obviously.
- 29:10Speaker 1: But that should be a good game, obviously, Arkansas, Arkansas State.
- 29:13Speaker 1: You nobody cares about that, but us we shouldn't even think.
- 29:15Speaker 1: We don't e think we should play it. We've never
- 29:17Speaker 1: played them in the history of football. It's first time
- 29:19Speaker 1: ever and we're playing them a crappy Memorial stadium in
- 29:21Speaker 1: Little Rock. I respect the stadium. Been to a bunch
- 29:23Speaker 1: of games that rush the field, but it's like, we
- 29:25Speaker 1: shouldn't play games off campus. But it's actually closer for
- 29:29Speaker 1: Arkansas State than it is for Arkansas, and it's an
- 29:31Speaker 1: Arkansas home game. There's really nothing you can get positive
- 29:34Speaker 1: from it because if they even play close, they're like, hey,
- 29:38Speaker 1: look at us, We're close to the big school. It's stupid.
- 29:41Speaker 1: So I hope we win and move on. Thinking about
- 29:43Speaker 1: going to the ole Miss game next week at ole Miss.
- 29:45Speaker 4: Okay, what are they playing ole Miss?
- 29:47Speaker 1: Oh?
- 29:47Speaker 4: Sorry, Arkansas.
- 29:51Speaker 1: If they were going to Oregon, that'd be weird. I
- 29:53Speaker 1: don't know why even a random ole Miss game. If
- 29:57Speaker 1: it's a solid result this week and make go to
- 30:00Speaker 1: ole Mess.
- 30:00Speaker 4: That's cool, I've heard. Great, Yeah, that's I heard.
- 30:03Speaker 1: I don't know. Maybe I'll invite some people. I don't
- 30:05Speaker 1: even have tickets yet.
- 30:06Speaker 4: We give them shout outs on the anywhere you go.
- 30:08Speaker 1: Well, I'm not doing interviews, but would if I do
- 30:10Speaker 1: an interview when they're not looking here? NFL wise, Cowboys
- 30:13Speaker 1: and Eagles tonight. Very interested in that game for a
- 30:16Speaker 1: lot of reasons. But our money is not in this
- 30:18Speaker 1: game though, No, not our money, but our private money
- 30:21Speaker 1: is yeah, private money. The chess isn't our community chess.
- 30:26Speaker 1: That'll be fun to see just what the Cowboys do.
- 30:30Speaker 1: They're gonna throw a lot. Is it because they're going
- 30:33Speaker 1: to be down?
- 30:33Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 30:34Speaker 5: Is it a let's see how bad they're going to
- 30:36Speaker 5: be or let's see I think it's a let's see
- 30:38Speaker 5: dot dot dot.
- 30:39Speaker 3: Yeah, all of that, all the above.
- 30:41Speaker 1: You know what's stack up.
- 30:42Speaker 4: To going for you is your expectations are just so low?
- 30:46Speaker 1: Sure?
- 30:47Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean they're pretty neutral. Do I think that
- 30:49Speaker 3: this is our They were low week ago?
- 30:51Speaker 1: No? No, no, you're not shifting. You quit them last week.
- 30:54Speaker 3: Is this our year? Possibly?
- 30:56Speaker 1: No no, no no no, you quit them last week,
- 30:58Speaker 1: you fully quit them. Now you're neutral, and now you're
- 31:01Speaker 1: back to positive.
- 31:02Speaker 4: You wear a hat, been a week.
- 31:03Speaker 1: I got that hat back on. That's a quick change, baby,
- 31:10Speaker 1: You're so stupid. He even changed like in the mid paragraph.
- 31:14Speaker 1: It's like neutral. That could be our year. We'll see
- 31:17Speaker 1: what I say to Mark? Can you imagine, man, I
- 31:20Speaker 1: win the Friday night game? Our team, the Chiefs our team.
- 31:24Speaker 4: It's hard to say.
- 31:26Speaker 1: I know, I've never said that in my life.
- 31:27Speaker 4: You have, I know, I know, Hey, if they win,
- 31:31Speaker 4: you know, at least I'm getting some money out of
- 31:32Speaker 4: not at least you got a root for yea.
- 31:33Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 31:36Speaker 1: They're playing in Brazil. Oh, this is the Brazil and
- 31:40Speaker 1: it's only on YouTube. What the dude? This is gonna
- 31:45Speaker 1: get bad? Oh my gosh, like YouTube? Whi itse like
- 31:48Speaker 1: Logan paula quarterback?
- 31:49Speaker 4: Is it?
- 31:49Speaker 1: Yeah? Like what do you mean bad?
- 31:51Speaker 4: Like to view it?
- 31:51Speaker 1: Well, I don't have YouTube? Like is it? Everybody has YouTube?
- 31:54Speaker 1: You just go to YouTube dot com. It's not YouTube TV.
- 31:57Speaker 1: I believe it's just because because.
- 31:59Speaker 5: Last year I had to get peacock and then cancel
- 32:01Speaker 5: it when just to watch the Chiefs game.
- 32:03Speaker 4: Would you mind looking it's just YouTube?
- 32:04Speaker 1: Yeah I thought so. So I just go to YouTube
- 32:06Speaker 1: and he's like, I don't have the internet, No dude, Okay,
- 32:11Speaker 1: well it's it's everywhere.
- 32:12Speaker 3: Well that's easier then.
- 32:13Speaker 1: Okay. So I have those two games, and then obviously
- 32:16Speaker 1: my favorite team is the Panthers. Oh yeah, Panthers are
- 32:19Speaker 1: Jags and then just Raiders of Patriots it's gets a
- 32:22Speaker 1: litt Kevin gets our game. Now we're rooting for the party.
- 32:26Speaker 1: So that's good. Bucks at Falcons should be interesting.
- 32:29Speaker 4: Yes, you need them to win, Yeah, you need that.
- 32:31Speaker 1: And also for that that division. That's a quick division game.
- 32:35Speaker 4: Huh yeah, and probably the top two you think would
- 32:37Speaker 4: be in that division hunt.
- 32:39Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like, yeah, I hope the Bucks are Falcon
- 32:42Speaker 1: is the favorite to win the division?
- 32:43Speaker 4: Are they really?
- 32:44Speaker 1: Yeah? Which is weird?
- 32:46Speaker 3: Who are Bengals playing?
- 32:48Speaker 1: The Bengals are playing the Browns. Let's go and they'll
- 32:51Speaker 1: play them twice this year? I know. We like that.
- 32:54Speaker 1: Dolphins at Colts, that's that's like the worst game of
- 32:57Speaker 1: the weekend.
- 32:58Speaker 4: Yeah, it's bad.
- 32:58Speaker 1: It's bad. Cardinals at Saints also pretty bad. There's at
- 33:02Speaker 1: least one team who's kind of okay.
- 33:04Speaker 3: Cardinals.
- 33:05Speaker 1: Steelers at Jets. That's the Aaron Rodgers Bowl. He plays
- 33:09Speaker 1: for Steelers, Yes, yes, yes, he plays with Steelers, used
- 33:11Speaker 1: to play for the Jets. There you go. Giants at Commanders.
- 33:14Speaker 1: It'll be interesting to see if the Cananders could be
- 33:16Speaker 1: good again. I think they are. Panthers and Jags. My
- 33:19Speaker 1: Panther team the whole life been rooten Titans the Broncos
- 33:24Speaker 1: forty nine Ers at Seahawks should be interesting. Oh yeah,
- 33:26Speaker 1: and then we get to like the good games. The
- 33:29Speaker 1: Lions at Packers will be awesome, yes, or at least
- 33:33Speaker 1: on paper it should be awesome. Uh, Texans at Rams
- 33:35Speaker 1: should be good. On what's up with Stafford?
- 33:39Speaker 4: Like how bad is that? Yeah?
- 33:41Speaker 1: Like if backs always hurt him?
- 33:43Speaker 4: I feel like he's always hurting. Something's always hurting.
- 33:45Speaker 1: And then Ravens and Bills. That's a big boy. Is
- 33:49Speaker 1: there no Monday night game this week?
- 33:51Speaker 4: Do you know what the Bears?
- 33:53Speaker 1: That's right?
- 33:55Speaker 4: Vikings?
- 33:56Speaker 1: Oh yeah, Bears and Vikings, Ravens and Bills. Like that's
- 34:00Speaker 1: AFC championship type game. It could yeah, definitely could be.
- 34:03Speaker 3: Oh yeah, no, no, it's going to be the Chiefs.
- 34:05Speaker 1: It could be. It could be. But I'm saying that's tight, tight, tight.
- 34:08Speaker 3: Yes, we need the Chiefs in there.
- 34:11Speaker 1: Yeah yeah. So all right, there we go. Good luck everybody,
- 34:15Speaker 1: Thank you, good luck to us and our teams. Our team. Okay,
- 34:18Speaker 1: we're gonna break come back with Seth Wickersham talk quarterbacks.
- 34:22Speaker 1: Eddie got a new job. We'll talk about that in

- 35:10Speaker 1: I would go more. I think this was trying to
- 35:13Speaker 1: suck her. You in, though, I think I would go
- 35:14Speaker 1: less on this because I don't think they're gonna need
- 35:16Speaker 1: to throw the ball a whole bunch to beat the Browns,
- 35:18Speaker 1: So I think I go less than that. One Rock
- 35:19Speaker 1: Pardy more or less than two hundred and forty six
- 35:21Speaker 1: passing yards at Seattle. I'm also gonna go less there.
- 35:25Speaker 1: Derrick Henry more or less than eighty four rushing yards
- 35:28Speaker 1: at the Bills. I'm gonna be Week one hater. I'm
- 35:30Speaker 1: gonna go less again. I just feel like i'm going
- 35:35Speaker 1: I'm pretty much going all less is here. Jayden Daniels
- 35:37Speaker 1: more or less than one passing touchdown versus the Giants.
- 35:40Speaker 1: The Giants suck. I'm going yeah, I'm going less. I'm
- 35:43Speaker 1: four lesses right now. Jamar Chase more or less than
- 35:46Speaker 1: one touchdown at the Browns. You know what, Let's go
- 35:50Speaker 1: less thing, dude, Yeah, yeah yeah. And Pooka more or
- 35:54Speaker 1: less than seventy four receiving yards versus the Texans. I'm

- 37:02Speaker 1: Now, let's go over and talk with ESPN Senior writer,
- 37:05Speaker 1: New York Times best selling author Seth Wickersham. He's got
- 37:08Speaker 1: a new book coming out called American Kings, a biography
- 37:12Speaker 1: of the quarterback that you can order now on Amazon.
- 37:14Speaker 1: It actually comes out on Tuesday, and he talks all
- 37:17Speaker 1: about the quarterback position from way old school people to
- 37:21Speaker 1: people of today. Great writer at Seth Wickersham. Here he is,
- 37:25Speaker 1: Seth Wickersham. All right, Seth Wickersham is on with us,
- 37:28Speaker 1: and we were just talking about the book. Seth. By
- 37:31Speaker 1: the way, again, it's American Kings, a biography of a quarterback,
- 37:33Speaker 1: which you can pre order, but it's not even like
- 37:35Speaker 1: a pre order because it comes out so soon that
- 37:37Speaker 1: it's almost the same time. If you order it now,
- 37:39Speaker 1: you'll get it basically when the book comes out.
- 37:40Speaker 6: Right, Absolutely, great to see you, man, good to be here.
- 37:43Speaker 1: Yeah, congratulations on the book. I think this is great.
- 37:46Speaker 1: It's super timely. Let's talk about Arch Manning for a second.
- 37:49Speaker 1: And you know you write about how how ruthless the
- 37:52Speaker 1: recruitment was, how did they settle on Texas.
- 37:55Speaker 6: So, Michael, with the book, you know, what I wanted
- 37:58Speaker 6: to do was show what it's like to do this
- 38:00Speaker 6: very uniquely American job, very unique American responsibilities at like
- 38:04Speaker 6: every level from current high school to college, pro, retired
- 38:07Speaker 6: Hall of Famer. And Arch was interesting to me because
- 38:10Speaker 6: you know, it was a window into this entire iconic
- 38:13Speaker 6: quarterback family. And so I was able to kind of
- 38:16Speaker 6: like or I was hoping to try to tell the
- 38:18Speaker 6: entire Manning story through Arch and specifically through Arch's recruitment,
- 38:22Speaker 6: and it got so competitive. I think that, like even
- 38:28Speaker 6: being there, it was interesting just to see, especially in
- 38:31Speaker 6: the NIL era, how hot it got for Arch. You know,
- 38:34Speaker 6: I think that it came down to Alabama, Georgia, and Texas.
- 38:38Speaker 6: The reasons why he picked Texas were I think they
- 38:41Speaker 6: were pretty wise. I mean, in no particular order. Number one,
- 38:44Speaker 6: Steve Sarkigian he's the play caller and the head coach,
- 38:46Speaker 6: so he's not going anywhere. He's not going to be
- 38:48Speaker 6: one of these guys who gets poached to be a
- 38:50Speaker 6: head coach somewhere else. Number Two, he really liked that
- 38:53Speaker 6: Texas might you know, was going to be a team
- 38:55Speaker 6: on the upswing, and here's a chance to win a
- 38:57Speaker 6: national championship there. It kind of helped elevate it. He
- 39:01Speaker 6: liked that it was at school that had a ton
- 39:02Speaker 6: of talent, and I think after being at eastid or Newman,
- 39:05Speaker 6: which is obviously a pretty pretty small school in New Orleans,
- 39:09Speaker 6: he wanted to be on a team that had, you know,
- 39:11Speaker 6: other five star players. And then finally, and this is
- 39:15Speaker 6: the one that I personally find the most interesting, is that,
- 39:17Speaker 6: you know, Austin's a big enough city you don't even
- 39:20Speaker 6: call it a college town. It's a city that he
- 39:21Speaker 6: thought he could be pretty anonymous there. And that, to
- 39:24Speaker 6: me is the most interesting aspect of it all, because
- 39:27Speaker 6: here you have arch Manning and you know, member of
- 39:30Speaker 6: like you know, football Royalty, and you know, part of
- 39:32Speaker 6: the reason why he picked Texas was because he thought,
- 39:35Speaker 6: and we'll see how well that works out, that you know,
- 39:38Speaker 6: he could be anonymous there. And I think that, like
- 39:40Speaker 6: even some of the reporting of my book, you know,
- 39:42Speaker 6: shows that like that itself was was too difficult to
- 39:45Speaker 6: ask for.
- 39:46Speaker 1: How influential were Archie, Cooper, Peyton eli All in Archer's
- 39:53Speaker 1: recruitment and actually helping him achieve his destination of Texas.
- 39:57Speaker 1: He did it himself.
- 39:58Speaker 6: And I think that like they're all really really hyper
- 40:01Speaker 6: aware of looking like they had a hidden hand. And
- 40:05Speaker 6: Nelson Stewart, you know, so arch is sophomore year. Obviously
- 40:09Speaker 6: they realized he was going to be a top prospect.
- 40:11Speaker 6: So Nelson Stewart, the head coach at Newman, and Cooper
- 40:14Speaker 6: man to get together and they try to think about
- 40:16Speaker 6: like how they want this recruitment to look like. And
- 40:17Speaker 6: this is looking like staring at a tsunami from a distance, like,
- 40:20Speaker 6: there's no stopping this thing. And so Cooper said, I
- 40:23Speaker 6: want this to be a nineteen seventy five recruitment and
- 40:26Speaker 6: Coach Stewart was like, what do you mean? And Cooper
- 40:29Speaker 6: was like, I want you to run point. I want
- 40:30Speaker 6: you to be the gatekeeper. And we're not going to
- 40:33Speaker 6: take offers. We're not going to be posting on social
- 40:35Speaker 6: media every time a school offers to us how grateful
- 40:38Speaker 6: we are. We're going to do things a little bit
- 40:40Speaker 6: different to try to give Arch as semblance of a
- 40:43Speaker 6: normal high school life and you know, maintain his love
- 40:46Speaker 6: of the game. And I think that's really important. And
- 40:48Speaker 6: so it was Arch driving things and obviously, like the
- 40:52Speaker 6: family members, you know, could weigh in when they wanted.
- 40:55Speaker 6: But you know, they went to University of Virginia, where
- 40:59Speaker 6: arch Is older sister made goes. And as they were
- 41:02Speaker 6: walking around campus, Cooper was like, look, you know, this
- 41:05Speaker 6: isn't a bad choice. You know, it's a beautiful campus,
- 41:07Speaker 6: great school. You know, it's not football crazy, and I
- 41:10Speaker 6: think that like, maybe your life could be more normal here.
- 41:12Speaker 6: And you know, obviously Virginia wasn't a school that he
- 41:15Speaker 6: you know, ended up considering at the end of the day,
- 41:17Speaker 6: it was him that was driving this and he's the
- 41:19Speaker 6: one who decided on Texas really just like Peyton did
- 41:22Speaker 6: with Tennessee and even Eli. Did you know back in
- 41:26Speaker 6: the day.
- 41:26Speaker 1: With Ole Miss you're right about Joe Namath then before
- 41:30Speaker 1: both of our time obviously, Joe Namath I think about
- 41:32Speaker 1: nineteen sixty nine h him guaranteeing him wearing the fur coats,
- 41:36Speaker 1: him being like in New York. But it was an
- 41:38Speaker 1: odd juxtaposition because he played at Alabama, like all of that.
- 41:41Speaker 1: We didn't get to experience it, but we're only catching
- 41:44Speaker 1: it like through story, like folklore even and so yeah,
- 41:47Speaker 1: what did you think of Joe namath cultural impact once
- 41:50Speaker 1: you started to really get into it at a deeper level.
- 41:52Speaker 6: Well, I mean, look, all quarterbacks are cultural archetypes of
- 41:58Speaker 6: John Unitis and Joe Namath. I mean, like, those two
- 42:00Speaker 6: guys are huge pillars. And you know, as I show
- 42:03Speaker 6: in the book, there are other guys who who helped
- 42:06Speaker 6: set them up, especially Bob Waterfield. In the nineteen forties
- 42:08Speaker 6: he was married to Jane Russell. They were like the
- 42:11Speaker 6: first couples first, you know, the country's first power couple.
- 42:14Speaker 6: But really name it. It is, you know, a watershed
- 42:18Speaker 6: moment in so many ways. And it was interesting because
- 42:21Speaker 6: I've been with Joe Namath at events in New York
- 42:24Speaker 6: and I've been with him at one event at the
- 42:26Speaker 6: University of Alabama at the Stadium, and just my personal opinion,
- 42:33Speaker 6: I thought that he was way more revered, way more
- 42:37Speaker 6: sought after, almost looked like with a type of reverence
- 42:40Speaker 6: that was different when he was at Alabama rather than
- 42:42Speaker 6: the events in New York. I think that like Alabama
- 42:45Speaker 6: has such a a you know, a vast you know
- 42:49Speaker 6: history throughout college football, and obviously name it. It has
- 42:52Speaker 6: so much cultural template that he started once he was
- 42:56Speaker 6: with the Jets and kind of blossomed into you know,
- 42:59Speaker 6: this guy who first offered the idea of quarterback as
- 43:02Speaker 6: like a lifestyle. But at Alabama, you know, he said
- 43:06Speaker 6: that Barry Bryant said that he was the finest player
- 43:08Speaker 6: he ever coached. And I think that, like, you know,
- 43:11Speaker 6: when you listen to Joonamath talk about his career, I
- 43:14Speaker 6: think in a lot of ways, you hear him talking
- 43:16Speaker 6: about more joy when he was at Alabama than even
- 43:21Speaker 6: during his heyday in New York.
- 43:23Speaker 1: I remember when the story first broke when you were
- 43:25Speaker 1: talking about the book, when it first was Hey, this
- 43:27Speaker 1: is going to be a book that exists, and the
- 43:28Speaker 1: Caleb Williams pre draft doubts came out like that had
- 43:30Speaker 1: to feel a bit like a tsunami a little bit,
- 43:33Speaker 1: and people were, you know, and they all had opinions
- 43:35Speaker 1: on your opinion and also what you saw. Right, So,
- 43:38Speaker 1: what's what's been the fallout and the follow up from
- 43:41Speaker 1: that story where you know it maybe Caleb didn't want
- 43:44Speaker 1: to go to Chicago.
- 43:45Speaker 6: Well, they looked at both Caleb and Carl Willilliams looked
- 43:49Speaker 6: at it really intensely. And I think that like one
- 43:52Speaker 6: of the things that we forget, you know, quarterback has
- 43:54Speaker 6: become so big in our in our culture and so
- 43:57Speaker 6: celebrated and mythologized that we think that they can do
- 44:00Speaker 6: everything on their own and in fact, like outside circumstances, context,
- 44:05Speaker 6: those types of things have a huge impact on how
- 44:08Speaker 6: successful quarterbacks are at the end of the day. And
- 44:11Speaker 6: so when you're looking at a team like Chicago who's
- 44:15Speaker 6: going to draft you, and they have such a poor
- 44:17Speaker 6: record of drafting quarterbacks, of developing them, of coaching offensive football.
- 44:22Speaker 6: For Christ's sake, I think that it is very reasonable
- 44:24Speaker 6: for the guy who's going to be the first pick
- 44:26Speaker 6: in the draft to say, like, is there anything I
- 44:28Speaker 6: can do? Are there any other options out there? Especially
- 44:31Speaker 6: because he visited with Kevin O'Connell, head coach of the
- 44:34Speaker 6: Vikings raining Coach of the Year at the Combine, and
- 44:37Speaker 6: they really hit it off, and so I think that
- 44:40Speaker 6: like what he was thinking of was like, is there
- 44:42Speaker 6: a way to get myself to Chicago to Minnesota to
- 44:46Speaker 6: work for coach O'Connell. There really wasn't. And at the
- 44:49Speaker 6: end of the day, the choices that he was faced
- 44:51Speaker 6: with was either go to the Bears or do what
- 44:55Speaker 6: John and Jack Elway did or Archie and Eli Manning
- 44:58Speaker 6: did and really create a situationuation that was completely untenable.
- 45:02Speaker 6: And he wasn't willing to go there. As he told me,
- 45:04Speaker 6: you know, I didn't want to nuke the city. And
- 45:06Speaker 6: I think that, like, you know, taking a step back here,
- 45:09Speaker 6: I mean, Carl had huge fears about Chicago. He told me,
- 45:12Speaker 6: you know, Chicago's where quarterbacks go to die, and he
- 45:15Speaker 6: really wanted his son. He was willing to be a
- 45:17Speaker 6: lead blocker for his son. If he wanted to nuke
- 45:19Speaker 6: the City. But you know, as Caleb told me later,
- 45:22Speaker 6: he wasn't really willing to do that, and it took
- 45:24Speaker 6: a year, but they got what they wanted, and that's
- 45:27Speaker 6: they have an innovative offensive mind whose success is tied
- 45:30Speaker 6: to Caleb Williams is. And you know, I think that
- 45:32Speaker 6: Caleb played well as a rookie. A rookie year is
- 45:35Speaker 6: largely about survival, and I think that, like, if I'm
- 45:37Speaker 6: a Chicago fan, I got to be pretty pretty bullish
- 45:40Speaker 6: right now on you know what's going to happen there,
- 45:43Speaker 6: because I think that he's going to do really, really well.
- 45:45Speaker 1: So you think their mind has shifted because Ben Johnson
- 45:49Speaker 1: is now the coach.
- 45:50Speaker 6: Yes, So I mean, look, the first year played out
- 45:52Speaker 6: almost exactly to Carl's fears. And I mean, you know,
- 45:55Speaker 6: I'm not hating on the Bears here. The record is
- 45:57Speaker 6: what the record is. I mean, you know, they fire
- 45:59Speaker 6: their offensive court in or the head coach, didn't even
- 46:01Speaker 6: last the season. It was almost exactly what Harrel feared
- 46:05Speaker 6: most would happen to his son. But I think they've
- 46:08Speaker 6: got it right, and I think that, like, you know, again,
- 46:10Speaker 6: some people are kind of down on Caleb after his
- 46:12Speaker 6: first year. I mean, I wasn't like that I saw
- 46:14Speaker 6: him make. He was incredibly tough. For one thing, he
- 46:16Speaker 6: took a lot of hits and he always got back up.
- 46:19Speaker 6: And you know, I think he made some pretty phenomenal
- 46:23Speaker 6: throws in known passing situations, laid in games when they
- 46:27Speaker 6: were down. Those are the hardest situations in the NFL.
- 46:31Speaker 6: And so I think that, like there's a lot to
- 46:32Speaker 6: work on going forward. I do think that it'll take
- 46:34Speaker 6: some time, Like these things are never as automatic as
- 46:36Speaker 6: we want them to be. But I do think that
- 46:39Speaker 6: having a coach like Ben Johnson, who really changed Jared
- 46:42Speaker 6: Gobb's career, I think is going to be a great
- 46:45Speaker 6: thing for Caleb Williams.
- 46:47Speaker 1: What did you learn about Patrick Mahomes as in more
- 46:49Speaker 1: than more of the nuance of Patrick Mahomes that we
- 46:51Speaker 1: don't get to see.
- 46:52Speaker 6: I mean, Patrick's fascinating, right because he's you know, he's
- 46:55Speaker 6: so He's come on to the scene so quickly, and
- 46:59Speaker 6: you know, as a dynasty, so quickly, even in a
- 47:02Speaker 6: way that Brady didn't. I mean, you know, Brady wasn't
- 47:04Speaker 6: throwing fifty touchdown passes his first couple of years in
- 47:07Speaker 6: the NFL that you know, He's somebody I had to
- 47:11Speaker 6: look at and it not just become because he's become
- 47:13Speaker 6: like such a cultural phenomenon with everyone kind of copying
- 47:16Speaker 6: his haircut, but because I wanted to know how he
- 47:20Speaker 6: managed fame, because I mean, you know, fame in twenty
- 47:24Speaker 6: twenty five is much different than fame in two thousand,
- 47:26Speaker 6: and it's much different than fame in nineteen seventy. And
- 47:31Speaker 6: you know, he he leaned into his religion a lot
- 47:33Speaker 6: more than I think people realize. And I think that
- 47:36Speaker 6: like the challenge for what quarterbacking has become so big
- 47:40Speaker 6: that I think that like you have to almost how
- 47:45Speaker 6: you deal with fame and the pressure of playing the position,
- 47:48Speaker 6: I think is a makeup that's almost as important as
- 47:52Speaker 6: your ability to throw the ball. To be honest with you,
- 47:54Speaker 6: that's how big it's gotten. And in order to keep
- 47:58Speaker 6: your performance ahead of your notary, you have to have
- 48:01Speaker 6: something that grounds you. And that from Mahomes is religion.
- 48:03Speaker 6: Like I think that it catches people a little bit
- 48:05Speaker 6: by surprise that like someone so gifted, you know, roots
- 48:10Speaker 6: so much of his how do I put it, It's
- 48:14Speaker 6: like his his awareness in religion. And you know, sometimes
- 48:20Speaker 6: people roll theize when they talk about religion in sports,
- 48:24Speaker 6: you know, when it came to people like him and
- 48:25Speaker 6: her cousins, I wanted to take them at face value
- 48:27Speaker 6: and at their word and actually learn about how religion
- 48:30Speaker 6: helps them navigate. Again, what's a really tricky space.
- 48:34Speaker 1: I feel like, and a bout what you just said
- 48:36Speaker 1: there is you know, what's the cost of being a quarterback?
- 48:40Speaker 1: And what are you going to sacrifice in order to
- 48:42Speaker 1: get these great things? What are some of the costs
- 48:45Speaker 1: that maybe we don't see, but they are really having
- 48:48Speaker 1: to sacrifice in order to get to this level.
- 48:50Speaker 6: I think that like we sort of like look at
- 48:53Speaker 6: the beautiful throw in the pressure situation and wonder how
- 48:57Speaker 6: they do that. And I think that like for them,
- 48:58Speaker 6: that's the easy part. It's everything else that comes with
- 49:01Speaker 6: it that's difficult, and how they manage that stuff I
- 49:04Speaker 6: think ends up being a huge thing. Look it is,
- 49:09Speaker 6: It is really really hard, and I think that you
- 49:11Speaker 6: have to study, you have to there's so much pressure
- 49:14Speaker 6: on you that I think that, like, these guys have
- 49:16Speaker 6: to create an ecosystem where they're kind of at the
- 49:19Speaker 6: center of it, and they're almost detached and separate and
- 49:21Speaker 6: isolated from reality in a lot of ways. As crazy
- 49:25Speaker 6: as that sounds, it's in that way. It's very similar
- 49:27Speaker 6: to like a politician or a pop star, whatever that
- 49:30Speaker 6: might be. They have to be at the center of
- 49:32Speaker 6: an ecosystem that you know, protects them and insecure. The
- 49:39Speaker 6: greater quarterbacks get, I found, the more they voll, they
- 49:42Speaker 6: volley between driving insecurity and almost like unreal confidence.
- 49:48Speaker 1: And I think that, like.
- 49:50Speaker 6: It's one of the things that's like Even doing that,
- 49:54Speaker 6: even making that leap to saying, well, I'm willing to
- 49:56Speaker 6: be at the center of this ecosystem and have everything
- 49:59Speaker 6: revolved around me is difficult. Like you know, I spent
- 50:03Speaker 6: a lot of time with Andrew Luck over the years,
- 50:05Speaker 6: and that as much as the injuries, if not more,
- 50:08Speaker 6: I think is what drove him out of football because
- 50:12Speaker 6: I don't think he liked who he was as a quarterback.
- 50:15Speaker 6: I don't think he liked it being you know, Andrew's
- 50:17Speaker 6: World twenty four to seven. I think that when he
- 50:19Speaker 6: was injured and he wasn't playing football and he had
- 50:21Speaker 6: a chance to really examine himself, he was like, I
- 50:25Speaker 6: don't like who this person is. And I think that
- 50:28Speaker 6: like he tried to do it where he was a
- 50:30Speaker 6: quarterback and trying to be a different type of person
- 50:32Speaker 6: and that worked for a little bit, but it really
- 50:35Speaker 6: wasn't sustainable and at the end of the day, he
- 50:38Speaker 6: kind of picked himself more than the job. And so
- 50:40Speaker 6: that's those are the things I think are just fascinating
- 50:43Speaker 6: that fans don't see. I mean, quarterback is not a
- 50:45Speaker 6: job that you play, it's something that you are.
- 50:48Speaker 1: When you wrote this book, obviously you consume yourself with
- 50:51Speaker 1: quarterbacks of past, present, and even we'll call arch Manning
- 50:55Speaker 1: quarterback in the future. Was the through line with all
- 50:58Speaker 1: of these guys that are super sick successful.
- 51:00Speaker 6: I think it's the willly It's the same thing that
- 51:03Speaker 6: allows the lead singer to step on a stage in
- 51:06Speaker 6: front of all these people with a microphone in front
- 51:08Speaker 6: of him.
- 51:09Speaker 1: You know.
- 51:09Speaker 6: I think that you just have to have you know,
- 51:11Speaker 6: call it, you know, ego, confidence, ruthlessness, whatever it is,
- 51:16Speaker 6: to step on the stage and have everyone watch you
- 51:18Speaker 6: and know that even though you won't admit it. I
- 51:21Speaker 6: think that, like there's a part of these great quarterbacks
- 51:23Speaker 6: that think that they know more really than anyone else,
- 51:26Speaker 6: and they might be kind of superior in some ways.
- 51:28Speaker 1: And that includes you.
- 51:30Speaker 6: Know, teammates that they really like in a door, and
- 51:32Speaker 6: even the head coach. I think that like they have
- 51:34Speaker 6: to figure out a way to again navigate this pressure.
- 51:38Speaker 6: I mean when I it's not a history of the quarterback,
- 51:42Speaker 6: but I do have historical aspects of it. And when
- 51:44Speaker 6: I went back to nineteen oh six when the forward
- 51:46Speaker 6: pass was legalized in college football, I was thinking it
- 51:48Speaker 6: was going to be like a slow build to the quarterback,
- 51:53Speaker 6: kind of having its lofty cultural status, and instead it
- 51:56Speaker 6: went fast. I mean, we as Americans almost seem to
- 51:59Speaker 6: notice that the spiral, you know, a forward pass was
- 52:03Speaker 6: something very unique and mystical and magical and work worth mythologizing.
- 52:08Speaker 6: And you know, even like nineteen twenty one quarterback named
- 52:13Speaker 6: Bo McMillan at teeny Center College in Kentucky. They go
- 52:17Speaker 6: up to Cambridge, Massachusetts, and they beat Harvard. New York
- 52:20Speaker 6: Times called it the biggest college football upset of the
- 52:22Speaker 6: first half of the twentieth century. And he returns to
- 52:26Speaker 6: Kentucky and they threw him a parade, and the governor
- 52:29Speaker 6: was there, and the governor is saying, remember this time.
- 52:32Speaker 6: You know, politicians are about as high in cultural you know,
- 52:36Speaker 6: job as you can possibly have. The governor is saying,
- 52:39Speaker 6: I would do anything to trade places with this guy
- 52:41Speaker 6: right now, and you know, sure enough, soon his wedding
- 52:44Speaker 6: announcement is in the New York Times and you know
- 52:46Speaker 6: he's in Hollywood with Starlits and his life really took off.
- 52:51Speaker 6: And again that was relatively early, and so I think
- 52:53Speaker 6: that like from the moment those types of things happened,
- 52:57Speaker 6: things just changed for quarterback. When I was doing the
- 52:59Speaker 6: book down with Steve Young and we started listing all
- 53:04Speaker 6: of the hats that a quarterback has to wear, from
- 53:06Speaker 6: mattin a idol, to field general to astonishing asshole at times,
- 53:11Speaker 6: to amateur psychologists, all these things, and we stopped at
- 53:14Speaker 6: like seventeen, and frankly, like, I think we could have
- 53:16Speaker 6: kept going. And so it's just a different job than
- 53:19Speaker 6: anything else that really we offered American sports, and I
- 53:22Speaker 6: think global sports too.
- 53:23Speaker 1: The book is called American Kings, A Biography of the Quarterback,
- 53:27Speaker 1: out September ninth. You can get it on Amazon. One
- 53:30Speaker 1: question that's not super book related, I'm gonna ask about
- 53:32Speaker 1: Bill Belichick because I know you spend a lot of
- 53:34Speaker 1: time covering Bill. Yeah, what do you think his office
- 53:36Speaker 1: is like? In Chapel Hill this week, Oh my god.
- 53:39Speaker 6: I mean, look, when when Bill Belichick loses a game,
- 53:44Speaker 6: that pain and that misery takes on it atmospheric type
- 53:49Speaker 6: of you know, presence, and you know when he's in
- 53:53Speaker 6: staff meetings, I mean, these things can go for hours
- 53:55Speaker 6: and he'll mumble at the lowest of his voice, so
- 53:59Speaker 6: that like every coach has to lean in and hear
- 54:02Speaker 6: him and listen to him talking about all of the
- 54:05Speaker 6: things that they did wrong and all of the things
- 54:07Speaker 6: that they have to do better.
- 54:08Speaker 1: And so look, I think that like.
- 54:11Speaker 6: Today, Tomorrow, Thursday are not going to be very good
- 54:15Speaker 6: days in Chapel Hill. But the thing that's interesting about Bill,
- 54:19Speaker 6: for as miserable as he can be and as hard
- 54:22Speaker 6: as he can push his assistant coaches, I mean, he's
- 54:25Speaker 6: kind of fundamentally an optimist.
- 54:26Speaker 3: And by Friday he.
- 54:28Speaker 6: Will change his tone and change his tune, and I
- 54:32Speaker 6: think that, like he'll be working really hard to put
- 54:35Speaker 6: his team not only in a position to win, but
- 54:38Speaker 6: to give them confidence. And I think that, like it's
- 54:40Speaker 6: one of the aspects of him that I think is
- 54:42Speaker 6: really underappreciated, and it comes from a place that's not
- 54:46Speaker 6: like Vince Lombardi or Newt Rockney. You know, it's a
- 54:49Speaker 6: brainier type of thing where he says, look, if you
- 54:51Speaker 6: do these things, this will put you in a decent
- 54:54Speaker 6: position to make a play that could change this game.
- 54:58Speaker 6: I mean, I thought that he was going to come
- 54:59Speaker 6: into college football, you know, coach like he was on
- 55:01Speaker 6: a war path and slap around Dabo Swinney's offense and
- 55:04Speaker 6: all these things. And I think that, like, look, there's
- 55:06Speaker 6: a big talent gap and there's a learning curve even
- 55:09Speaker 6: for you know, the greatest coach of the Super Bowl era.
- 55:12Speaker 1: Seth, really appreciate the time. I hope everybody checks out

- 57:26Speaker 5: I'm gonna be busy Friday nights. I'm part of the
- 57:29Speaker 5: chain gang for the high school football.
- 57:34Speaker 4: No way.
- 57:35Speaker 1: Yeah, it was last minute.
- 57:37Speaker 5: You know a buddy of mine, he's been doing it
- 57:38Speaker 5: for like two years, and I think one of their
- 57:40Speaker 5: guys got sick. I wally pipped him. I said, dude,
- 57:44Speaker 5: I'm available, I can jump in. And I did it
- 57:46Speaker 5: on Friday night, and dude, I was pretty good at it.
- 57:48Speaker 5: The only time I screwed up one time?
- 57:50Speaker 1: Which one do you do?
- 57:51Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 57:51Speaker 1: Well both, because which way are you going on the field? Well,
- 57:55Speaker 1: there's a marker holder. Yeah, I consider that part of
- 57:58Speaker 1: the chain gang. The marker holder is Doug.
- 58:00Speaker 5: That dude's been there for forty Oh you don't take
- 58:02Speaker 5: Dougs No, no, no, Doug's been doing this for like
- 58:04Speaker 5: forty years.
- 58:05Speaker 1: So yeah, I don't do Doug's job.
- 58:07Speaker 5: I do either end of it. Am I the first down?
- 58:10Speaker 5: Or am I where the ball starts?
- 58:11Speaker 1: So how'd you screw up? Uh?
- 58:13Speaker 5: So when it was first in goal, I put the
- 58:16Speaker 5: marker on the goal line and the guy's like, throw
- 58:18Speaker 5: it on the ground.
- 58:19Speaker 1: Oh, you don't need to because the goal line is
- 58:20Speaker 1: the marker, right.
- 58:22Speaker 5: I didn't think about it. I just thought like, hey,
- 58:24Speaker 5: maybe they need a reference guys the goals right here.
- 58:26Speaker 1: Yeah, Danny, so about rookie move. But that's not like bad. Yeah.
- 58:29Speaker 4: I was thinking like you gotta like chained up, like
- 58:31Speaker 4: all like caught up, you know what I mean, And
- 58:32Speaker 4: you had to break it out and pause the.
- 58:34Speaker 5: Game's that's a little nerve wracking because it's along the sideline.
- 58:38Speaker 5: So when you're right in front of the visitor team.
- 58:40Speaker 5: They could trip on the chain. A couple of times
- 58:42Speaker 5: they stepped on it, and I got to be like, boys,
- 58:44Speaker 5: watch the chain.
- 58:45Speaker 1: Wait, do you do the thing where if they're coming
- 58:46Speaker 1: over you just drop everything and move away. That's what
- 58:48Speaker 1: they told me to do. Don't risk it.
- 58:50Speaker 5: The first time, dude, there was a run that came
- 58:51Speaker 5: straight to me and I used the stick to guard it.
- 58:55Speaker 1: I don't think that's the way it's supposed to do.
- 58:56Speaker 1: It's not because it get hurt a player. Yeah, and
- 58:58Speaker 1: the stick bent, So now we may need to get
- 59:01Speaker 1: a new stick. So in your first game, you put
- 59:06Speaker 1: the stick on the goal line. Not that bad.
- 59:07Speaker 5: You shouldn't do that though, but you bent the stick.
- 59:10Speaker 5: I bet the stick the player hit it. Yeah, So
- 59:12Speaker 5: like the players came to me and they were and
- 59:14Speaker 5: I just kind of stuck it out.
- 59:15Speaker 1: Like a shield, like you were blocking yourself, yeah, from
- 59:19Speaker 1: the player by using the metal run.
- 59:20Speaker 5: Yeah, and they land them the bottom of the stick,
- 59:22Speaker 5: which then I let go of it. But by that
- 59:24Speaker 5: time they had already stepped the stick. And it's a
- 59:26Speaker 5: little warm. But they didn't teach you just if it's
- 59:28Speaker 5: coming over, drop it.
- 59:28Speaker 1: They did. But dude, I mean it's so fast, you
- 59:31Speaker 1: can't really think that quick. Do you ever get distracted
- 59:34Speaker 1: and like you just start thinking about the things all
- 59:36Speaker 1: say like, oh God, because I think I would be
- 59:38Speaker 1: doing that. Yeah, yeah, I mean, dude, you got to
- 59:41Speaker 1: stay in it.
- 59:42Speaker 5: I think the best part about it is that you
- 59:44Speaker 5: are in the visitors sidelines, so you're hearing everything.
- 59:48Speaker 1: Is there a way the chain gang could cheat in
- 59:50Speaker 1: high school? Absolutely?
- 59:51Speaker 5: How I mean, once you start realizing what green tomato
- 59:55Speaker 5: green tomato, Once you realize what green tomato means, and
- 59:58Speaker 5: when they call it, you could easily text because I
- 1:00:00Speaker 5: mean I have my phone out checking scores.
- 1:00:03Speaker 4: Your check.
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: Absolutely, that's why the player ran into the stick. Sure, yeah, dude,
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: I mean it's it's a it's a high school game.
- 1:00:11Speaker 5: They're boring times, and you're just like they're never It's
- 1:00:13Speaker 5: like it's like third and twenty, they're never gonna get
- 1:00:16Speaker 5: a first down and here they come and I'm.
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: Like, oh crap, you're watching on TikTok. Yeah. Yeah, but dude,
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: I think I have air pods in and he's got
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: air pods in over on the side watching tiktoks.
- 1:00:26Speaker 5: I could easily text the other team and be like, yeah, dude,
- 1:00:28Speaker 5: they're throwing green tomato every every third tomato.
- 1:00:31Speaker 3: I don't remember. It's an example, but like when you
- 1:00:34Speaker 3: start figuring.
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: Out the Connor Stallions of high school, he wears a
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: different dude. But it was cool, man, Like, I'm I'm
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: kind of excited about this. Did you get like a
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: little power trip a little bit? Did you wear the uniform? No? See,
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: that's where I screwed up.
- 1:00:48Speaker 5: And I don't know if I messed the test, if
- 1:00:50Speaker 5: I missed it in the text, but I wore like
- 1:00:53Speaker 5: a white flower shirt and like they were all with
- 1:00:56Speaker 5: the chin gang wore black.
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: And I'm like, did you know you were going to
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: do it going into the game. Yeah, they text me
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: two hours for the game and you still wore a
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: flowered shirt. I didn't even think about it. I thought,
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: you know what I thought.
- 1:01:07Speaker 5: I thought they were gonna give me one of those
- 1:01:08Speaker 5: orange fluorescent bibs and they never did. So there was
- 1:01:11Speaker 5: with a flowered polo shirt and this is high school,
- 1:01:16Speaker 5: high school man, big time. It was is cool, Like
- 1:01:19Speaker 5: you know, there was So we were on the visitor
- 1:01:21Speaker 5: side and some guy comes up to me. He's like, hey, man,
- 1:01:25Speaker 5: so I do the chain gang for our high school.
- 1:01:27Speaker 5: Like you guys are doing a great job.
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: Thank you, man dang respecting my chain gang, Chin Gang
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: respect chain gang.
- 1:01:34Speaker 4: Do they have the digital ones at all?
- 1:01:36Speaker 5: Yeah, that's what Doug carries. Doug carries the down okay,
- 1:01:39Speaker 5: and he just follows the ref like wherever the ref
- 1:01:42Speaker 5: says the ball is. Doug goes to the ref, hits
- 1:01:44Speaker 5: the all he does, hit the button and he goes one.
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: Two, three, four instead of doing the flip.
- 1:01:50Speaker 3: And he said to do as a game changer.
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: Did you ever have to go on and do a
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: measure Uh No, I never went out on the field
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: to measure. Uh uh the whole game. They never called
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: for a measurement.
- 1:02:00Speaker 4: Next card, they can put it right in between the football.
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: Dude.
- 1:02:03Speaker 5: What's crazy is like when when the quarters, when the
- 1:02:05Speaker 5: quarter shift happens, Like how.
- 1:02:07Speaker 4: Do you like?
- 1:02:08Speaker 5: I was just kind of confused, like how do they know?
- 1:02:10Speaker 5: Because you got to flip through this side of the field,
- 1:02:12Speaker 5: but they've got to keep that same mark. And the
- 1:02:15Speaker 5: ref just does this thing where like he counts the links,
- 1:02:18Speaker 5: puts his finger on it, follow me and he goes
- 1:02:20Speaker 5: all the way to this side. Kind of does a
- 1:02:22Speaker 5: little measurement and says, put it right there.
- 1:02:24Speaker 4: Well, you should mark it on the on the thirty
- 1:02:27Speaker 4: five yard line, right, Yeah, we mark it on there,
- 1:02:29Speaker 4: so then it's a thirty five on the other side.
- 1:02:31Speaker 5: It's a little bit of math though, because he's got
- 1:02:33Speaker 5: to kind of move it exactly.
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: Where it was, like within one yard, Like there are
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: different places you can put it inside of one yard. Yeah,
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: I guess he's finding that specific spot. Yeah, And we
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: can learn so much from you. The ref was on it.
- 1:02:45Speaker 5: If you guys have any questions about doing the chain
- 1:02:47Speaker 5: gang or any kind of first down rules, like, let
- 1:02:49Speaker 5: me know.
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: I don't think you know them yet. Number one rule,
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: drop the Yeah, I would think as soon as someone's coming,
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: drop it. Yes, they told me that because the one
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: it's not getting hit holds it, which holds it into
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: its place. It keeps its integrity. Yeah. If both of
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: them drop, what you don't need both of them to
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: drop because they're ten yards apart. If both of them drop,
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: you have a chance to loseure the integrity of where
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: the ball is, right, Yeah, but both But I mean.
- 1:03:16Speaker 5: The time I stuck it out, I was the first down,
- 1:03:18Speaker 5: so I felt like that runner needed to know where
- 1:03:21Speaker 5: to get to you know what I mean. I feel
- 1:03:22Speaker 5: like it would have been an injustice to drop the
- 1:03:24Speaker 5: stick a little premature before he knows where that yard
- 1:03:27Speaker 5: marker is.
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: Are they doing pylons and first downs as well? No?
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: Just me, man, dang all that pressure. Just me. The
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: way to the world is on you.
- 1:03:34Speaker 4: Are you worried about getting hurt at all? Nah, I'd
- 1:03:36Speaker 4: be worried about somebody rolling.
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: Up on me. They did tell me that when you
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: have a force field a big metal pole from you,
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: if you didn't get hit by anything, it's not that hard, though, dude,
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: It's like it's like weak aluminum, I would think, so,
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: I hope so I thought it was like a big rod. Dude,
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, with a big pat on it. But
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: it's not. It's just like a little weak flag. It's
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: just an aluminum stick. How could you cheat though not
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: passing along information? Could you manipulate Like, let's say your
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: team needs another half foot if you worked on the
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: same page with the person who is running where the
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: ball started, you could have them like back up three
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: inches and you could slowly move yours three inches.
- 1:04:16Speaker 5: Yeah, I thought they would check the tightness of the
- 1:04:18Speaker 5: chain a little more. They didn't, And there were some
- 1:04:20Speaker 5: times where I'd look over and like, do that change loose?
- 1:04:23Speaker 5: I'm probably giving these guys half a yard right now? Yeah,
- 1:04:27Speaker 5: so I could cheat like that, I can give them
- 1:04:28Speaker 5: a half a yard.
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: Do you get paid? No? I did ask, but no,
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: no pay, no payment. It's all volunteer work. Well they
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: get what they get then, yeah, I do get freak
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: concessions though, like, oh now we're talking. Yeah, led half
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: time I got it was free to get in.
- 1:04:46Speaker 5: That's good, which which they didn't believe me because I
- 1:04:48Speaker 5: had that flower shirt on.
- 1:04:49Speaker 3: I was like that promise, I'm working chaining?
- 1:04:51Speaker 4: How early did you have to show up?
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: Just at noon? The lines he's running, he's doing runs
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: with the polls like int Like Kevin said, you got
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: to make sure that chain's not tied up. Yeah, but
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: you only do every other game right home, just home games. Yeah,
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: because the home game supplies the chain game, so basically
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: every other game. How many is that total? Five or something? What?
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: So are you bound to do it now? I like,
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: what if something happens on a Friday? I said, look,
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: put me on the list. I'm like, if you think
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: I did a good job. Put me in the list.
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: I want to do this every every home game. And
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: they said, all right, well what about the guy who
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: normally did it? He's always going to do it. Oh
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: well the guy how Wally Pipps.
- 1:05:33Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: There was I'm telling you. After the game there was
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: no talk of that guy. You think you did such
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: a good job. They forgot him.
- 1:05:39Speaker 4: I think, So did you make friends with the guys
- 1:05:41Speaker 4: other than there's another one though.
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: Right, there's three?
- 1:05:44Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, my buddy, my buddy read. Okay, so my
- 1:05:47Speaker 5: buddy read. I'm not read a different read. But I've
- 1:05:49Speaker 5: known him for like three or four years, so so
- 1:05:52Speaker 5: Reid and I are tight. Doug though, Doug was tough
- 1:05:54Speaker 5: man like. It was almost like he looked me up
- 1:05:58Speaker 5: and down, like, who who do you think you are? Like,
- 1:06:00Speaker 5: have you ever chained gang before?
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: You to prove yourself? Yeah?
- 1:06:03Speaker 3: Yeah, because Doug's been doing it forever.
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: Classic. Yeah, And I think Doug.
- 1:06:08Speaker 5: I'm not one hundred percent sure, but I think Doug
- 1:06:10Speaker 5: was texting the updates to the newspaper.
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: As it was going mm hmm, seems like a little
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: too many updates.
- 1:06:16Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, like every time, like they'd score like oya.
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: But they don't have anybody there like reporting probably, but
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: I just every time we I don't think they have
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: the reporting manpower to put somebody at every game.
- 1:06:25Speaker 5: Now and what's that? What's that website? The high school
- 1:06:27Speaker 5: max Preps. M hm, So maybe he was just sending them.
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: And they may keep it updated then so people can
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: check scores live like max Preps. Yeah. M m, well,
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: congratulations on your big gig. Thank you, dude. That's pretty
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: awesome moving up into sports world. Ok, many, it's pretty cool.
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: Do you ever think it'd be fun to be a referee?
- 1:06:42Speaker 3: Yes?
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: Like that would be cool, right, it's a lot of school.
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: I would only want to be a referee on the biggest,
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: biggest of levels. When that doesn't work, it doesn't work
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: like that. It's like you said, I want only a
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: Major League baseball player. No, No, you got to go
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: through rookie ball, you know.
- 1:06:55Speaker 5: So, I don't know, dude. Rest seems like such a
- 1:06:58Speaker 5: stressful position. Like you said, you can't daydream at all.
- 1:07:02Speaker 5: You don't think being a ref the NFL would be fun?
- 1:07:04Speaker 5: Like getting to be in it, see it, hear it,
- 1:07:06Speaker 5: you know all the insides I think it would be
- 1:07:08Speaker 5: fun until they're like, Eddie, what is it, and I'd
- 1:07:10Speaker 5: be like, guys, it could go with Eddie.
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: Runs off runs in the tunnel like Forrest Gump, Like
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: it's it's.
- 1:07:16Speaker 5: Hard because I know there was this one play on
- 1:07:18Speaker 5: Friday Night when when there was a holding right and
- 1:07:24Speaker 5: it was like holding on on an offensive line was
- 1:07:26Speaker 5: holding and then the coach was yelling the holding was
- 1:07:29Speaker 5: right in front of you, and then the ref looks
- 1:07:31Speaker 5: of the coach like I only have two eyes. I
- 1:07:33Speaker 5: was looking at the runner, you know, and it's like, well,
- 1:07:36Speaker 5: it's still your job, but I'm thinking, like that's tough.
- 1:07:39Speaker 5: Everyone's just like the holding was right there, but you're like, dude,
- 1:07:42Speaker 5: I was looking at the ball and not the hold.
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: So you don't think it'd be cool to be NFL MLB, No, No,
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: I think it too stressful. Man. Oh, I think that
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: would be so cool. I think it'd be fun to
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: like go to school to do that, Mike, you think
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: be fun?
- 1:07:53Speaker 4: I think that would be awesome.
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: I wouldn't talk to the coaches, can't. Yeah, why'd this
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: guy even.
- 1:07:59Speaker 5: Like but even like you know, you watch the college games,
- 1:08:02Speaker 5: like their coaches are always just like talking to the
- 1:08:04Speaker 5: ref So you got to like somehow humor them.
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a relationship. I guess you got. I wouldn't
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: just ignore them. Yeah, I ignore them completely all time
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: doing my job. I think they have specific ones on
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: the sideline judges who are there to actually communicate with
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: the coaches. That job becomes. Yeah, that would suck, especially
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: when you get somebody that just like Bob Petrino used
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: to just bite heads off. Nick Saban used to bite
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: heads off. So it's fun.
- 1:08:27Speaker 5: Congratulations that was a weather guy when I was when
- 1:08:29Speaker 5: I worked the news, he would work Friday.
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: He was a ref on Friday night. Jim Spencer, Oh, Jim.
- 1:08:35Speaker 5: He was a weather man by day, by the during
- 1:08:37Speaker 5: the week, and then Friday night's he's a ref.
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: That's awesome, that's cool. Kevin had a he says one
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: of the top three moments of his life. Eddie, do
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: you want to guess what it is before we tell
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: you three moments? He said he had a top three
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: moment in his life. Happened?
- 1:08:52Speaker 5: Is this one of the influence? Is it an influencer deal? Like,
- 1:08:55Speaker 5: what did you get like ten thousands or something?
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: Happen? I did see your new drink station. Yeah, influence video. Nohow,
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: thank you. I thought you already did drink station. No
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: he does. I'm at the drink station right. Oh it's
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: oh it's a drink station.
- 1:09:06Speaker 4: It doesn't have anything to do with drink station.
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: No, but I saw that.
- 1:09:09Speaker 4: Okay, yeah, thank you.
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: Yeah, so it's not that something with the Patriots. I
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: don't know. You get three guesses? He had a top
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: three life moment. How well do you know him? Well?
- 1:09:20Speaker 5: I know Kevin pretty well. Top three life moment. You
- 1:09:23Speaker 5: just had babies, you recently got married. So then this
- 1:09:28Speaker 5: is going to be the third. I'm gonna say, you
- 1:09:31Speaker 5: got uh invited to do something with the Celtics guest one, yeah,
- 1:09:38Speaker 5: or the Patriots guess too, that can be guest one.
- 1:09:40Speaker 3: Okay, gosh, I don't know. I mean, what else is
- 1:09:47Speaker 3: this dude?
- 1:09:47Speaker 4: Like I thought, you know me?
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: I do? I do? You're a Patriots fan? Oh?
- 1:09:56Speaker 3: Are you going to Boston for a vacation.
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: It's guests too too. Course, everything if he's going hasn't
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: actually happened.
- 1:10:06Speaker 4: It already happened.
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: It already happened. It already happened. Did you post about it? No?
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: But I saw a post that was yeah, it was adjacent. Yeah,
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: he got an autograph Tom Brady ball or something. Oh
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: that had been cool.
- 1:10:22Speaker 4: I would have posted that.
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: Well maybe not. It has to do with golf. You
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: got a hole in one.
- 1:10:30Speaker 5: Number one, your kids and okay, golf, he's gonna it
- 1:10:37Speaker 5: already happened.
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: Did you play like a cool course? Where did you
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: guys play?
- 1:10:41Speaker 4: Cedar Crest Murphy's Okay, played that one.
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: I don't even know that one.
- 1:10:45Speaker 4: Honestly, it was a good course though. It was a
- 1:10:47Speaker 4: cool course.
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: Okay, he got an eagle. Oh that had been pretty cool. Okay,
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: so you're you're sitting the bar so high. That's the
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: way he got a birdie. He got his first birdie.
- 1:10:59Speaker 4: Guesses, baby's first.
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: You can go ahead.
- 1:11:03Speaker 4: I had a drive as straight as can be over
- 1:11:07Speaker 4: three hundred yards.
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: I mean, okay, okay, dude, you know that feeling, Hey,
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: what's your what's your tone about?
- 1:11:16Speaker 4: You know that feeling you're not even pumped for me?
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: What's your tone? He had a tone. I'm curious to
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: know your tone.
- 1:11:21Speaker 5: Yeah, he didn't care for three hundred yards. Okay, Like,
- 1:11:25Speaker 5: good job, good job. It's probably gonna happen again. If
- 1:11:28Speaker 5: you did it once.
- 1:11:30Speaker 4: See, I feel like he's downplaying it downhill when I'm
- 1:11:33Speaker 4: glad you, I'm glad you weren't there because everyone else
- 1:11:36Speaker 4: was stoked.
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: We haven't had rain, and like, no, what were the
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: factors I'm asking you?
- 1:11:40Speaker 4: Oh yeah, no, it was just no downhill. No, maybe
- 1:11:43Speaker 4: a little bit of whin. I think some cross wind
- 1:11:45Speaker 4: was coming actually okay, yeah, and then it went right
- 1:11:48Speaker 4: through over the there's a tree line that came out
- 1:11:50Speaker 4: like halfway through the fairway, boom over the trees, tall trees,
- 1:11:54Speaker 4: and then right over it's like three hundred eight yards
- 1:11:57Speaker 4: straight as can be.
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: I mean, I've never done it. I don't I may
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: I think in the history of your golf. Probably hit
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: a car path something kept rolling. Oh that's a good point.
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: But a legit three hundred yard drive that this is legit,
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: that's not in my arsenal.
- 1:12:10Speaker 4: It was my best day of driving by far all around.
- 1:12:13Speaker 4: All around. Yeah, I only had like four bad drives
- 1:12:17Speaker 4: probably wow. Yeah, and I had like five, I had
- 1:12:21Speaker 4: four really good ones in a row, and that was
- 1:12:22Speaker 4: the best one.
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: So, as you said, you went over trees, So was
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: this kind of just like you had to go that way?
- 1:12:26Speaker 4: If you were gonna Yeah, it was either like you know,
- 1:12:28Speaker 4: hit to the right of the trees a little bit
- 1:12:30Speaker 4: and go around, or just go straight over the trees.
- 1:12:32Speaker 4: To be honest with you, I was just hitting it
- 1:12:34Speaker 4: and it went over the trees. I did not expect
- 1:12:35Speaker 4: to do that, but it went right over the trees.
- 1:12:37Speaker 4: I mean it was a monster shot.
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: I will say that Kevin's drive, I mean he them
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: play very well.
- 1:12:42Speaker 3: But the driver he struggled with the driver, I.
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: Do was there a reason taking a shot out? I know,
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: I know, I think. So what does he normally shoot?
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: In your opinion?
- 1:12:53Speaker 3: Over one hundred one ten around?
- 1:12:56Speaker 4: No off that high?
- 1:12:57Speaker 5: Okay, one one oh five, one on one may yeah,
- 1:13:00Speaker 5: I mean it's over one hundred okay, sure, And so
- 1:13:02Speaker 5: I've played with Kevin and the drivers left right straight.
- 1:13:07Speaker 4: I always slice it. Yesterday when we played it was
- 1:13:11Speaker 4: it was on dude on. I've never seen it like.
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: This, So I guess this is cool for him. It's
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: the start of something.
- 1:13:16Speaker 4: It's so much more fun when you can drive.
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: For you, yeah, it is, Yeah, that's true. Well, congratulations,
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: what do you think do? What do you think about? What?
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: What's the question you're asked? Three hundred and whatever yard drive. Okay,
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: I think he's an athletic guy. If he's having a
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: good day driving and he's swinging really hard.
- 1:13:35Speaker 4: Sure, it's just a great feeling, you guys know when
- 1:13:37Speaker 4: you get ahold of it.
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: Yeah, it is a great feeling. I thought you had,
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: like an eager I think I don't only think it's
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: a top three moment for you though, I mean at
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: the time, Yeah, I think it's probably a top seventy
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: seven hundred moments for you.
- 1:13:50Speaker 4: Yeah, somewhere in there between three and seven hundred.
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: How much golf do you play? We haven't played a week.
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: How much do I play?
- 1:13:56Speaker 4: I've only played twice this year. That was on my
- 1:13:59Speaker 4: second time.
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: And how did that round get together?
- 1:14:02Speaker 4: I have family in town, my brother.
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: I thought you were with Ray. Huh uh did you
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: not play golf with Ray? No at all.
- 1:14:08Speaker 4: No, I haven't played with Ray like two years.
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: See something. Maybe Ray and Pitts were playing golf together.
- 1:14:13Speaker 4: Oh, well, I played with Pitts my brother. My brother
- 1:14:16Speaker 4: doesn't look like oh is my brother and dad?
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: Maybe it was that I saw a picture of you
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: guys playing golf.
- 1:14:20Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, Pitts, my brother and my dad.
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: How does that round get together?
- 1:14:23Speaker 4: My dad and brother in town and we're like, we
- 1:14:25Speaker 4: got to play around in golf. We had a nice
- 1:14:27Speaker 4: Sunday and then Pitts plays a lot of golf, so
- 1:14:29Speaker 4: I was like, you want to come with it?
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: He was our fourth. How hard is it to get
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: on that course day of or day before? I booked
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: it a week in events, so that's why I was
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: packed up there.
- 1:14:37Speaker 4: It was. It wasn't that bad. We had okay, we
- 1:14:39Speaker 4: actually had this guy's this group behind us right. This
- 1:14:43Speaker 4: guy hit into the opposite fairway and then we were
- 1:14:46Speaker 4: waiting to hit for him to hit up, and he
- 1:14:48Speaker 4: hit up and he had another really bad shot. Dude,
- 1:14:50Speaker 4: this guy threw him. I'm not kidding. He happy gilmour
- 1:14:53Speaker 4: his club back to his car. He threw it at
- 1:14:55Speaker 4: his cart from like twenty yards away. I've never seen
- 1:14:57Speaker 4: somebody that mad.
- 1:14:58Speaker 3: I don't get that.
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: The weirdest part about people to throw clubs is they
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: usually aren't good golfers anyway, so you don't expect to
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: How can you expect to be good when you aren't
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: good anyway?
- 1:15:06Speaker 4: And then the next hole they hit up on us.
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: Like I can understand if you were a pro golfer
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: and you wanted to throw clubs because you probably don't
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: hit that many bad so when you do, it's a
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: shock to your system. So what do you do when
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: you're shocked? You throw a club. But like Lunchbox, he's
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: not a great golfer. No, he throws his clubs. It's like,
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: what do you expect? You always suck?
- 1:15:24Speaker 4: Right, Yeah, Like I would never throw my clubs because
- 1:15:27Speaker 4: I'm like, what do I expect?
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: Well? And then plus they're expensive. Yeah, that's like you're
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: throwing money. I know, you're damaging money.
- 1:15:32Speaker 4: That's what I thought. I was like, dude, you're not
- 1:15:33Speaker 4: getting free ones if you break that one, you're not sponsor.
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: You're not sponsored by how bad you are. So this
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: guy hit on you, guys.
- 1:15:41Speaker 4: Yeah, and then the next hole he hit on us.
- 1:15:42Speaker 4: I think we think he was so mad that he
- 1:15:44Speaker 4: was playing so bad, and then he hit up on
- 1:15:47Speaker 4: us on the next hole. I'm not kidding, like five
- 1:15:49Speaker 4: feet behind my brother we were walking off the green.
- 1:15:51Speaker 3: Was it the same hole though? Did he hit three
- 1:15:53Speaker 3: hundred yards too?
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: Uh?
- 1:15:54Speaker 4: No, he couldn't do it.
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know if it's just the hole maybe,
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: And he did it.
- 1:16:03Speaker 4: So get this. He did it right in front of
- 1:16:04Speaker 4: the Marshall, literally sitting on that hole watching all of us.
- 1:16:07Speaker 4: He did it right in front of the Marshall and
- 1:16:09Speaker 4: so we turned around like hey, what the f blah
- 1:16:10Speaker 4: blah blah, you know, and then the Marshall came up
- 1:16:12Speaker 4: and he's like I saw that happen, Like I'll talk
- 1:16:14Speaker 4: to him, like okay, like come on man, we look back.
- 1:16:17Speaker 4: He literally has his arms around the guy. It's like
- 1:16:18Speaker 4: the Marshall knows the guy. We're like, okay, well what
- 1:16:21Speaker 4: do we do?
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: And plus the marshals like what are eighty years old?
- 1:16:24Speaker 4: He would yeah, but it's like what do we Like?
- 1:16:27Speaker 4: We were pissed, but then we were having such a
- 1:16:29Speaker 4: good time. We don't want to throw in our moods.
- 1:16:30Speaker 4: So then the next hole we just kind of sped
- 1:16:32Speaker 4: up and then we never had any problems after that.
- 1:16:34Speaker 4: I get triggered and people hit on me, yes that
- 1:16:36Speaker 4: we were all true. I mean we were having such
- 1:16:38Speaker 4: a good time seven holes in and then got triggered.
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: Yeah, pissed. I worked on a golf course and so
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: it did maintenance on a golf course, so people were
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: hitting on me. Is a little traumatic the workers would
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: just get tagged with balls and so without anybody even
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: because we had to water our green specific if he
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: got really hot because there was on hydration what's the
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: word with the water system, irrigation, thank you the irrigation system.
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: Ninety five percent of the time. Let's they got really
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: hot and it couldn't keep up. So we had to
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: go out real quick, stop it, going to golf cart,
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: plug it in and spray the greens of the water.
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: And obviously we're on the green right with the hoes
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: on the green, and they would still hit on us.
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: I saw guys heads get whacked like cut.
- 1:17:22Speaker 4: They would even like make sure you're looking at them
- 1:17:24Speaker 4: or something.
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: And like the foot, you got hit the foot and
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: like the foot, or I'd be like weed eating or
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: something on the side and people would hit. So I
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: have a little PTSD with getting hit with the golf balls.
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: But once we were all playing in Austin and it
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: was me, Eddie, a couple of our friends at my course,
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: and these guys kept hitting on us, and so we
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: got up to this hole and they hit on us
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: again and it was like four and so I'm pissed.
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: So I'm like all right. If this, if I have
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: to fight, I guess I will. I don't want to.
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: I'm not a fighter, but I'm gonna have some words
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: because I'm pissed. And so they're coming at me and
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: I'm I'm standing there and I got my boy behind me,
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: and I'm like, well, we're gonna fight. I guess we'll fight.
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: And they're coming and I'm like, you guys got to
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: stop it. And I look back and my boy's driven
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: off and left me. Oh no, Bobby was all alone,
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: no clubs, no boy, what the heck? He's like two
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: hundred yards down in the golf dry and I'm like,
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: oh my god, I'm about to get whooped by four dudes. Yeah,
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: because talking crap on a golf course is cool when
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: you have a foursome. Yeah you got in your hands,
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: yeah yeah, yeah, you got back up and you got clubs.
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: And I didn't need all four people. I just needed
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: at least one with some clubs. Yeah, because I was
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: having a word. And I look back from my sipo,
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: Oh my god, Well sorry all alone, you guys have
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: a good day.
- 1:18:39Speaker 4: The first thing I thought about was that hockey guy
- 1:18:41Speaker 4: that just put that dude. I was like, I'm going
- 1:18:44Speaker 4: to be that guy today that gets whooped. No, no, no,
- 1:18:46Speaker 4: the hockey guy one hockey.
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: You're gonna be the whooper.
- 1:18:49Speaker 4: Yeah, the whooper.
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: Well, congratulations on your top three months. Thank you? You
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: mean no?
- 1:18:56Speaker 3: That's awesome, man, that's it.
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: Enjoyed football, everybody go Cowboys tonight?
- 1:19:02Speaker 3: Cowboys?
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: Are you betting? Yeah? Did you already bet it while
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: I said that?
- 1:19:06Speaker 4: Or you can do it later.
- 1:19:06Speaker 3: I'm gonna do it later. I might use a no
- 1:19:08Speaker 3: sweat bet.
- 1:19:09Speaker 5: Oh the ghost leg the ghost shit that's built for you, dude.
- 1:19:14Speaker 5: That is my kind of perk. I think I only
- 1:19:17Speaker 5: get like two or three or something.
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: Have a ghost token. This is for DraftKings ghost Do
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: you know about this? Yeah? And then you can use

- 1:19:40Speaker 1: the reference is. That's it. Thank you guys for being here.
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: If you do go to Draft Kings and sign up,
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: it would help us a ton. If you put in
