Transcript
- 0:10Speaker 1: Hey everybody, you are locked and loaded for the latest
- 0:12Speaker 1: edition of Burns Weekly presented by the inside of the
- 0:15Speaker 1: Burns Network.
- 0:16Speaker 2: For Mr. Barry Brooks, I'm Derrick Gunn.
- 0:18Speaker 1: As we sit here to recap week 17 and the
- 0:23Speaker 1: Eagles do a complete flop against the hated Dallas Cowboys.
- 0:28Speaker 1: And B. Brooks, we got to start with the defense, man.
- 0:33Speaker 2: What? What? You said the same thing for the last
- 0:36Speaker 2: five weeks. Start with the defense? A complete flop.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Oh, total flop.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Total flop. Hey, look, look, look.
- 0:46Speaker 1: We knew the offense was still kind of suspect. Young quarterback,
- 0:50Speaker 1: you didn't know how much Saquon was going to play
- 0:52Speaker 1: if he played at all. You're one of two wide
- 0:56Speaker 1: receivers not playing in this game. But I at least
- 0:59Speaker 1: expected the defense to keep them in the game and
- 1:03Speaker 1: give them a fighting chance.
- 1:04Speaker 2: And B.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Brooks, I have to ask you, the floor is yours,
- 1:07Speaker 1: my friend. Your observations on a Vic Fangio defense that
- 1:11Speaker 1: played nothing like a Vic Fangio defense.
- 1:16Speaker 3: Gunner, I thought we played in the NFL, a gladiator sport,
- 1:22Speaker 3: a physical game, which we go out and we try
- 1:25Speaker 3: to impose our will on others. And what happened to us?
- 1:29Speaker 3: They imposed their will on us. And the worst thing
- 1:34Speaker 3: about this entire game is we didn't match their intensities.
- 1:38Speaker 3: How are we not matching their intensity? They came with
- 1:43Speaker 3: the mindset that we're going to play bully ball. And
- 1:46Speaker 3: that's exactly what they did. I sat there and watched
- 1:51Speaker 3: Tyler Smith totally annihilate who was ever in front of them.
- 1:57Speaker 2: He didn't care who it was. It was all of them. Morrow, Davis,
- 2:03Speaker 2: and Carter. He was schooling them guys, man.
- 2:07Speaker 3: I sat there and watched him specifically because I was like, man,
- 2:10Speaker 3: what is going on? I see bodies flying around, and
- 2:13Speaker 3: I see 73 around them. Tyler Smith demoed on us.
- 2:18Speaker 3: Their starting left guard beat us and made us like him.
- 2:22Speaker 3: And it was just unbelievable how physical he was. Tyler Guyton,
- 2:28Speaker 3: he's sorry, man. And he was out there balling. He was, bro, we...
- 2:34Speaker 3: We touched the quarterback one time. We touched Dak Prescott
- 2:37Speaker 3: one time.
- 2:37Speaker 2: I don't even think you touched him one time. They
- 2:40Speaker 2: said he had one pressure, I think. One pressure.
- 2:44Speaker 1: If he did, it's because one of his offensive linemen
- 2:46Speaker 1: ran into him. No, bro.
- 2:49Speaker 3: It was the one pressure where he faked Epineza, made
- 2:54Speaker 3: him jump in the air, and brought it down. That
- 2:56Speaker 3: was the pressure there. That was it. But if you
- 3:00Speaker 3: watch that play, you watch that play right there. It
- 3:04Speaker 3: was crazy because Tyler Smith, like I was talking about,
- 3:08Speaker 3: on that exact play, and you can watch film on it,
- 3:10Speaker 3: go back and look at it, when he faked and
- 3:12Speaker 3: made Epinesa go in there.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Watch.
- 3:14Speaker 3: When you look at when he, from the Cowboys-Vaners point
- 3:18Speaker 3: on in, I see Tyler Smith has Carter like this
- 3:25Speaker 3: and controlling him. He didn't even let him get off
- 3:27Speaker 3: the line of scrimmage. He didn't get off the line
- 3:30Speaker 3: of scrimmage, bro. In fact, it was so bad that
- 3:33Speaker 3: he almost started going over the line of scrimmage.
- 3:35Speaker 2: He pulled him back out. Oh, I don't want to
- 3:38Speaker 2: be that far down. Come on, man.
- 3:40Speaker 3: It kept him right there. It was a total, you know,
- 3:45Speaker 3: just ass-whooping. That game was crazy, man. I couldn't believe it. And,
- 3:50Speaker 3: you know, my guy, Seth, I love Seth. And he
- 3:56Speaker 3: told me, as a linebacker, When you see guys didn't double-team,
- 4:01Speaker 3: when you see your defensive lineman getting double-teamed, you got
- 4:04Speaker 3: to run.
- 4:04Speaker 2: Through to get them off that double-team. Go downhill. Go downhill.
- 4:09Speaker 2: I didn't see one time our linebackers go downhill. It
- 4:12Speaker 2: was over. I could have ran my butt through that, man.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Come on, man.
- 4:15Speaker 1: Hey, man, where are your $ 200 million D tackles, man?
- 4:20Speaker 1: Jalen Carter, think about this. Jalen Carter has played one
- 4:26Speaker 1: half of a game like the Jalen Carter we expect
- 4:30Speaker 1: this entire season. Jordan Davis, I don't know where he
- 4:35Speaker 1: is mentally, man, but he's on planet Krypton or something
- 4:39Speaker 1: because I don't understand how you have that much beef
- 4:41Speaker 1: in the middle. And even if they're getting double teamed,
- 4:44Speaker 1: you know, the better D tackles in the game get
- 4:47Speaker 1: double teamed and somehow find a way to get off
- 4:49Speaker 1: the blocks and make plays occasionally. These guys are making
- 4:53Speaker 1: plays four or five yards downfield. I don't understand what's
- 4:57Speaker 1: going on with the D-tackles in particular, man. I mean,
- 5:00Speaker 1: you invested a lot of money into these two guys,
- 5:04Speaker 1: and right now they're stealing money.
- 5:07Speaker 3: They absolutely are, man. There's no way around it. I'm
- 5:11Speaker 3: not going to say this. I never talk about the
- 5:14Speaker 3: money aspect of it.
- 5:15Speaker 2: I don't care. You get your money, man.
- 5:17Speaker 1: I'm going to talk about it.
- 5:19Speaker 2: You can talk about it.
- 5:20Speaker 3: I'm going to talk about what I saw, and I
- 5:21Speaker 3: saw Jordan, Big Jordan– They were just locking him up, man.
- 5:27Speaker 2: Locking him up, man.
- 5:27Speaker 3: It was funny, man, because he wasn't even– there was
- 5:31Speaker 3: no– we didn't even have a tackle for loss.
- 5:35Speaker 2: No. No.
- 5:36Speaker 3: They played on our side of the line of scrimmage
- 5:38Speaker 3: all day long. They drove us three yards off the
- 5:40Speaker 3: ball every single play. Every single play. And for us
- 5:45Speaker 3: to think anything other than we got our butts whooped
- 5:47Speaker 3: is crazy. But it has to be something as far
- 5:50Speaker 3: as coaching– with linebackers playing the way they played. I
- 5:53Speaker 3: can't believe that those holes would open up and we
- 5:56Speaker 3: didn't have linebackers running through. To me, I didn't understand that.
- 6:00Speaker 3: And I can understand that saying, all right, they changed
- 6:02Speaker 3: their schema. They haven't run the ball like that since
- 6:08Speaker 3: we didn't.
- 6:09Speaker 2: It doesn't matter.
- 6:10Speaker 3: If you play like a linebacker, play your scheme, if
- 6:13Speaker 3: your hole opens up, you got to run through it.
- 6:16Speaker 3: If you see a double team, you got to run
- 6:18Speaker 3: through the hole where the double team is because that's where.
- 6:19Speaker 2: The ball is going. Come on, man. I didn't play linebacker, man,
- 6:23Speaker 2: but I know how to block a linebacker. I know
- 6:25Speaker 2: how to block a three-track lead. I know what they
- 6:28Speaker 2: did right. I mean, how am I sitting.
- 6:31Speaker 3: Here talking about, you know, Tyler Smith and the way
- 6:34Speaker 3: he just controlled and manhandled our defensive line like that, man?
- 6:38Speaker 2: I mean, these are my guys. They're my guys, man,
- 6:41Speaker 2: but I got to tell the truth. I got to
- 6:44Speaker 2: tell the truth. The truth will set you free. Amen.
- 6:49Speaker 2: I saw him get whipped.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Whipped whipped look here man the back end of that
- 6:57Speaker 1: defense now you talk about we talk about the two
- 7:01Speaker 1: guys in the middle in the trenches well baffling us
- 7:05Speaker 1: i've said on our pregame show when you have two
- 7:08Speaker 1: gazelles like cd lamb and george pickens you got to
- 7:12Speaker 1: have some cheetahs that can chase the gazelle right and
- 7:15Speaker 1: the eagles had them in quinnian mitchell and reek wallen
- 7:19Speaker 1: okay Why in the world didn't Vic have those two
- 7:23Speaker 1: corners follow those two guys all night long? If they
- 7:26Speaker 1: went to the concession stand, if they went to the bathroom,
- 7:29Speaker 1: them cornerbacks supposed to be right there with them. Why
- 7:31Speaker 1: in the world do you see Cooper Dejean occasionally covering
- 7:35Speaker 1: CeeDee Lamb?
- 7:37Speaker 2: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. What? See,
- 7:41Speaker 2: that's the problem right there.
- 7:43Speaker 3: Cooper Dejean needs to cover them.
- 7:45Speaker 2: He is a slot corner. He can't cover CeeDee Lamb.
- 7:49Speaker 3: Bro, instead of backing up, you're a bigger player. You're
- 7:53Speaker 3: a thicker player. Instead of backing up, get your hands
- 7:57Speaker 3: on him.
- 7:57Speaker 2: Rewrite him.
- 7:57Speaker 3: Throw the timing off. That way Dak wouldn't have thrown
- 8:00Speaker 3: the ball if he threw the timing off. But he didn't.
- 8:03Speaker 3: You got five yards. You could physically manhandle him. But
- 8:06Speaker 3: he didn't do that. So since you didn't put your
- 8:08Speaker 3: hands on him, you let him get a free release,
- 8:11Speaker 3: of course he's going to beat you.
- 8:12Speaker 2: He's a faster player. But you can.
- 8:15Speaker 3: Alleviate all that, doing all this and all that, by
- 8:18Speaker 3: putting your hands right there smack dab in the middle
- 8:20Speaker 3: of his chest, stop right here, and throw the timing off.
- 8:23Speaker 2: And then we're not going to get on Rick Wooler, though. Oh, yes,
- 8:26Speaker 2: we are. Oh, yes, we are. Six foot four. Yes.
- 8:31Speaker 2: 200 pounds. Ran a 4-2-40 at the combine.
- 8:35Speaker 1: Yes.
- 8:36Speaker 2: Sophist drugstore cotton. I was waiting for you to say that.
- 8:41Speaker 3: Bruh, when I say... Come up and make a tackle.
- 8:48Speaker 3: He played two-hand touch. Two-hand touch.
- 8:52Speaker 2: Man, stop being scared, man. You know what?
- 8:55Speaker 3: It kind of looked like when I was younger and
- 9:00Speaker 3: the first time you put on pads when you're a
- 9:01Speaker 3: Pop Warner, you see the guys that are going to
- 9:04Speaker 3: be football players.
- 9:05Speaker 2: Then you see the guys that are going to play
- 9:06Speaker 2: basketball and baseball. Yeah, yeah. That's what I saw. I
- 9:09Speaker 2: saw he looked like.
- 9:10Speaker 3: One of the guys that should have played basketball, man,
- 9:13Speaker 3: on red track because he didn't have a physical bonus.
- 9:17Speaker 2: He's not in his body, man. He's not physical.
- 9:20Speaker 3: And, I mean, bro, I could sit down and watch
- 9:22Speaker 3: film with him.
- 9:23Speaker 2: I could sit down and watch film on my film.
- 9:26Speaker 2: I'm not saying I was all world. Hell, I got
- 9:29Speaker 2: my ass kicked by Mr. White, Reggie White. Oh, yeah,
- 9:32Speaker 2: I've seen that video. Charles Haley. I mean, you name it.
- 9:37Speaker 2: But at least I was out there battling and fighting
- 9:39Speaker 2: and scratching and clawing it. You know what I'm saying?
- 9:41Speaker 3: I'm trying to rip the helmet off, everything, trying to
- 9:43Speaker 3: make it happen. This dude, man, he want to play
- 9:47Speaker 3: two-hand touch. This is not powder puff football.
- 9:50Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying? You got to come up
- 9:52Speaker 2: with his... Bro, he tackling, man. Bro, come on, man. Hey, look, man.
- 9:58Speaker 1: In August, I said... said, don't think Reek Wallen is
- 10:02Speaker 1: what you think he is.
- 10:03Speaker 2: Now, he's good. He's a good cover corner occasionally.
- 10:10Speaker 1: He's a riverboat gambler, and he makes mistakes because he's
- 10:13Speaker 1: always trying to jump routes, and he's not the greatest tackler.
- 10:17Speaker 2: And here's another thing.
- 10:19Speaker 1: He's coming off a Pro Bowl season with a very
- 10:23Speaker 1: good Seattle defense.
- 10:26Speaker 2: They didn't even make him an offer to stay, let
- 10:28Speaker 2: him go. And oh, by the way, you remember a
- 10:30Speaker 2: kid named Josh Joe that played here? Yeah, he started.
- 10:33Speaker 1: He and Seattle started balling. So what did that tell
- 10:36Speaker 1: you about what Seattle thought about Rick Wallen? That they said, hey, man,
- 10:39Speaker 1: you know what? Thank you for helping us get a ring, but,
- 10:42Speaker 1: you know, good luck to you wherever you're going down
- 10:43Speaker 1: the road.
- 10:44Speaker 2: They knew! They knew!
- 10:46Speaker 3: Would you say another man's trash is another man's Trash.
- 10:50Speaker 3: Another man trash. Hey, look, man.
- 10:53Speaker 1: But, you know, going back to your boy, the Gene,
- 10:55Speaker 1: he's costing himself a lot of money this season, man.
- 10:57Speaker 1: This dude, he's a pro bowler.
- 11:01Speaker 2: Right, right. All pro.
- 11:03Speaker 1: All pro.
- 11:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Now he's all about nothing.
- 11:10Speaker 2: You kicked it too much, I guess. You know, I'm
- 11:12Speaker 2: not going to say that. I'm going to say this.
- 11:14Speaker 4: So this hit me when I was doing work around
- 11:16Speaker 4: the house the other day and trying to open up
- 11:19Speaker 4: some boxes and cut some things that I can never
- 11:21Speaker 4: find the scissors or knives in my house. And how
- 11:24Speaker 4: great would it be if I just had my own
- 11:26Speaker 4: personal pocket knife that I had on me all the time?
- 11:30Speaker 4: And that's why I can't wait to get my Benchmade knives.

- 13:37Speaker 3: Maybe he got caught up in the transition of thinking
- 13:39Speaker 3: that he was going to be a safety and kind
- 13:42Speaker 3: of build up some muscle bulk. You know what I'm saying?
- 13:44Speaker 3: Not fat, but muscle bulk. And he can't move as
- 13:47Speaker 3: fluently as he used to move, you know what I'm saying?
- 13:49Speaker 2: Because he did get bigger.
- 13:50Speaker 3: He did get rocked up, you know what I'm saying?
- 13:53Speaker 3: I'm not going to make any excuses for him because
- 13:54Speaker 3: he's not using that physical, you know, strength that he
- 13:59Speaker 3: acquired over the offseason.
- 14:00Speaker 2: Man, put your hands on people, man. Put your hands
- 14:03Speaker 2: on people.
- 14:05Speaker 1: Man, you let a Dallas offense that was averaging 76
- 14:10Speaker 1: yards a game running the ball bust you up for
- 14:13Speaker 1: 204 yards a game. Two, not one, not one, 204 yards. Now,
- 14:20Speaker 1: Dallas' offense is decent. They're not a juggernaut. And they
- 14:25Speaker 1: were running up and down. They left cleat marks all
- 14:27Speaker 1: up and down Eagles' defensive backs, man. All up and
- 14:30Speaker 1: down their backs. And I'm sitting here going, Vic.
- 14:33Speaker 2: Fangio, what did you coach all week?
- 14:35Speaker 1: You had an extra day to get ready for this game. See,
- 14:39Speaker 1: we know the offense is all busted up. But for
- 14:43Speaker 1: the most part, the defensive pieces have been there week
- 14:45Speaker 1: in and week out.
- 14:46Speaker 2: Yes.
- 14:47Speaker 1: And you're going to show that on a Monday night
- 14:48Speaker 1: on Jeffrey Lurie's induction into the Team Hall of Fame?
- 14:52Speaker 1: If I was Jeffrey, I'd cancel all their checks. Next check,
- 14:55Speaker 1: ain't nobody getting paid. I'm telling you right now, ain't
- 14:58Speaker 1: nobody getting paid next week.
- 15:00Speaker 2: Nobody.
- 15:02Speaker 1: I don't know how to explain. Look, it was a
- 15:07Speaker 1: lack of effort and coverage. It was a lack of
- 15:09Speaker 1: effort and tackling. And every time your offense gave you
- 15:13Speaker 1: a lead and gave you some momentum, you let Dallas
- 15:16Speaker 1: as a defense walk right back down the field and
- 15:18Speaker 1: take that momentum from you. Yep. Every stinking time. Dallas
- 15:22Speaker 1: scored on seven of nine possessions. That's embarrassing. That's an embarrassment.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Seven of nine? Seven of nine possessions. See, I'm not
- 15:29Speaker 2: a stat guy. I'm not a stat guy, so I
- 15:31Speaker 2: don't really look at the stats when they come up.
- 15:34Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying?
- 15:35Speaker 3: I don't look at that. What I look at is
- 15:36Speaker 3: the physical prowess that does. that the Cowboys came in.
- 15:39Speaker 3: They came into our house saying, you know what? We're
- 15:43Speaker 3: going to leave this game a winner or a loser,
- 15:45Speaker 3: but one thing we're going to be is the most
- 15:47Speaker 3: physical team on the field. And that physicality is what
- 15:52Speaker 3: broke our back.
- 15:53Speaker 2: They were just more physical than us.
- 15:54Speaker 3: They're going to drive me to drinking, man.
- 15:57Speaker 2: That's what they're going to do. They're going to drive
- 15:59Speaker 2: me to drinking, man. I'm drinking right now. Ice water.
- 16:02Speaker 2: I'm drinking.
- 16:04Speaker 1: All right, let's go over to the other side of
- 16:06Speaker 1: the ball because I was so interested in seeing what
- 16:10Speaker 1: was going to happen with Tanner McKee having a full
- 16:14Speaker 1: week of practice in the Sean Mannion slash Nick Sirianni offense.
- 16:19Speaker 1: And I tell you what, he looked more comfortable in
- 16:22Speaker 1: the first half. He looked more comfortable. He made some
- 16:25Speaker 1: good throws. I thought he was very efficient in terms
- 16:29Speaker 1: of handling the offense. Now, he made a few bad throws.
- 16:31Speaker 1: Every quarterback does. But I thought he looked way more poised. Uh,
- 16:36Speaker 1: then he looked the previous week.
- 16:38Speaker 3: I think Sean, man, you put them in a position
- 16:40Speaker 3: where he used what his strengths are, you know, he
- 16:44Speaker 3: getting the ball out of his hands. He got guys
- 16:46Speaker 3: running in the middle of the field and he could
- 16:47Speaker 3: throw in the middle of the field. He was dinking
- 16:49Speaker 3: and ducking lemon played at a high level.
- 16:53Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:53Speaker 2: Getting the ball to him, uh, in, in space, uh, moving.
- 16:57Speaker 3: I mean, a couple of guys have dropped, you know, my,
- 16:59Speaker 3: you know, uh, there's Cooper had a couple of drops, um,
- 17:02Speaker 3: you know, uh, I think that they came out and
- 17:06Speaker 3: played well enough to win the game. And when you
- 17:08Speaker 3: think about winning and you think about a defense, 17
- 17:13Speaker 3: points is always.
- 17:15Speaker 2: Like the magic number.
- 17:17Speaker 3: If you can hold a team to 17 points on
- 17:20Speaker 3: the defensive side of the ball, you should win. Because
- 17:22Speaker 3: the offense has a score over 17. They have to.
- 17:26Speaker 3: Did we play well enough? Did the offense play well
- 17:28Speaker 3: enough to win the game? They played well enough to
- 17:32Speaker 3: be competitive. Yes.
- 17:35Speaker 2: But I had higher expectations for the defense.
- 17:38Speaker 3: Now, what I saw from the office was kind of
- 17:40Speaker 3: special because when you add a weapon like Saquon Barkley,
- 17:46Speaker 3: it opens a lot of stuff up.
- 17:47Speaker 1: Yes.
- 17:48Speaker 2: There's no team sitting back.
- 17:49Speaker 3: Saying, all right, you know, Pierce, you know, Damian Pierce,
- 17:52Speaker 3: you know, we're going to, you know, I'm sorry to me,
- 17:54Speaker 3: and I ain't going to knock his hustle, but he
- 17:56Speaker 3: just didn't control defense. what the defense was doing. Saquon
- 18:01Speaker 3: controlled what the defense were doing. You got to bring
- 18:04Speaker 3: that extra defender in. So you can't run cover two
- 18:06Speaker 3: with Saquon in there. You got to run cover one.
- 18:08Speaker 3: You got to bring another body inside the box. And
- 18:13Speaker 3: when he was in the game, you saw that electricity.
- 18:15Speaker 3: You saw how electric he was. So at this point,
- 18:19Speaker 3: I could, you know, you could have bought me with
- 18:21Speaker 3: a wooden nickel, man. you know, when I saw that
- 18:24Speaker 3: first run, that he was going to play the rest
- 18:26Speaker 3: of the game. There's no way he was going to
- 18:28Speaker 3: play the rest of the game, man. I know he tried.
- 18:30Speaker 3: He gave the almost effort, man. But still, though, even
- 18:33Speaker 3: with him being hobbled, he was still a threat out
- 18:37Speaker 3: there in the first half. Even with him not being 100%,
- 18:40Speaker 3: he was still a threat in the first half. Once
- 18:44Speaker 3: he couldn't play, the defense, you know, let their hair down.
- 18:47Speaker 2: They said, all right. We ain't got to worry about
- 18:49Speaker 2: that no more. They went back to playing regular defense, man.
- 18:52Speaker 3: But I tell you what, man, Landon Dickerson and Kendall
- 18:59Speaker 3: and Saquon, that's one heck of a mix, man, that
- 19:02Speaker 3: really has some great results.
- 19:05Speaker 2: I look at Saquon, and obviously he's a gamer.
- 19:08Speaker 1: We know, you can tell right away that that hamstring
- 19:12Speaker 1: wasn't 100%. And then he goes out there and tweaks
- 19:15Speaker 1: his back. Now, he played a total of 10 snaps
- 19:17Speaker 1: in this game. 10 snaps. Would you have allowed him
- 19:20Speaker 1: to play in the game? I mean, obviously, you know,
- 19:23Speaker 1: when a player has been injured and they decide to play,
- 19:26Speaker 1: there's a meeting of the minds. The trainer, the doctor,
- 19:29Speaker 1: and the player. And you know the player is always
- 19:31Speaker 1: going to want to say, I want to play. But
- 19:33Speaker 1: I do think Saquon is smart enough, as competitive as
- 19:36Speaker 1: he is, to protect his body, to preserve himself for
- 19:40Speaker 1: the greater good of more games down the road. But
- 19:42Speaker 1: obviously the meeting of the minds decided he was well
- 19:45Speaker 1: enough to play. But after watching him run a couple
- 19:47Speaker 1: of times, would you have let him play that game?
- 19:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:52Speaker 1: I wouldn't.
- 19:52Speaker 2: I wouldn't.
- 19:53Speaker 3: And this is the reason why I said, the reason
- 19:54Speaker 3: why I say that because that's just what players do.
- 19:59Speaker 3: That's just what they do. Players, players want to go
- 20:02Speaker 3: out there and play. He's one of those guys that
- 20:03Speaker 3: he wants to go out there and play. He wants
- 20:05Speaker 3: to be front and center. And I mean, and it's
- 20:08Speaker 3: the same situation with, With Smitty, Devontae Smith, same situation.
- 20:13Speaker 3: You know, he wanted to go out there and play,
- 20:16Speaker 3: try to, you know, and end up hurting himself a
- 20:18Speaker 3: little bit. Evidently, he said his hamstring was all right,
- 20:22Speaker 3: but his lower back, his lower back was the problem.
- 20:27Speaker 3: His back tightened up. And I understand what he's saying.
- 20:30Speaker 3: He was saying that, all right, your body will compensate,
- 20:33Speaker 3: you know, from an injury somewhere else. And I guess
- 20:37Speaker 3: that back, you know, got the, you know, and I
- 20:39Speaker 3: think that's what happened. He got the moving on, he
- 20:41Speaker 3: got the moving on the back. He said, oh, tighten
- 20:43Speaker 3: up a little bit. I need to protect you from
- 20:45Speaker 3: messing up. And I guess that's what happened. But at
- 20:49Speaker 3: the end of the day, I'm sorry to say it,
- 20:51Speaker 3: I would have let him play because he would have
- 20:54Speaker 3: demanded to play.
- 20:55Speaker 2: You know, he would have demanded to play. He wants
- 20:59Speaker 2: to play. He wants to be out there with his brothers.
- 21:01Speaker 1: Second play of the game, he busts, he rips one off.
- 21:03Speaker 1: Then he scores on a nice run where he starts
- 21:05Speaker 1: to the inside, dips to the outside. takes it to
- 21:07Speaker 1: the house. His presence creates such a different dynamic in
- 21:13Speaker 1: that offense. Even a less than 100% Saquon is still
- 21:17Speaker 1: a viable threat. And I honestly believe if he was
- 21:21Speaker 1: able to play, let's say, let's say 75% of that game.
- 21:26Speaker 1: I think, I don't know if the, I don't know
- 21:27Speaker 1: if the Eagles would have won, but it would have
- 21:28Speaker 1: been a much closer.
- 21:29Speaker 2: Much more entertaining game. I think, I think that much.
- 21:33Speaker 2: They couldn't stop us, man. With the Saquon again, they
- 21:36Speaker 2: couldn't stop. Yeah.
- 21:37Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:37Speaker 3: They couldn't stop us. So if he played 75% of
- 21:39Speaker 3: the time, I think they'd have scored 75% of the time.
- 21:42Speaker 3: So I just think that, you know, he's that good
- 21:45Speaker 3: of a weapon. He's that good of a piece. Now
- 21:47Speaker 3: everybody's talking about, oh, you know, trade deadline, all that
- 21:49Speaker 3: type of stuff. You're not going to be able to
- 21:51Speaker 3: get the worth that, you know, he has to this team.
- 21:54Speaker 3: You're just not going to do it. And this is
- 21:55Speaker 3: a contract year for him, too.
- 21:57Speaker 1: Yeah. You know what I mean? Yeah.
- 21:59Speaker 3: So will a team come out? It'd have to be
- 22:01Speaker 3: a team that's going to go into the playoffs, deep
- 22:04Speaker 3: in the playoffs. Somebody like McCaffrey got hurt. Yeah, they
- 22:08Speaker 3: would trade for him. Just like they just got the
- 22:10Speaker 3: 49ers got the Forrest Buckner. They're still trying to win.
- 22:15Speaker 3: Are we at that point? Can we run off 17
- 22:17Speaker 3: straight wins? No, heck no. To be honest with you. No,
- 22:23Speaker 3: not 17. You wouldn't need 17. No, you need 10
- 22:28Speaker 3: more wins. Can we win the next 10 games? You
- 22:31Speaker 3: might not win the next two games. I'm looking at
- 22:34Speaker 3: that schedule. I'm trying my best to find two wins
- 22:38Speaker 3: on the schedule.
- 22:39Speaker 2: Let alone. Even next week, man. Even next week. Can
- 22:42Speaker 2: our defense stop that offense? Not the way they played
- 22:47Speaker 2: against Dallas. Can we score on that offense? Can we
- 22:50Speaker 2: score on that defense? You got to score more than
- 22:52Speaker 2: 21 points.
- 22:53Speaker 1: Look, do you know the 21 points they scored Monday
- 22:55Speaker 1: night was the most points they've scored since the second
- 22:58Speaker 1: game of the season against Tennessee?
- 23:00Speaker 2: Think about that. 21 points? The first time they scored? D-Gun,
- 23:05Speaker 2: it's the first time they scored in the first quarter.
- 23:09Speaker 2: First time they scored in the first quarter. Seven games
- 23:13Speaker 2: into a season. Seven games into a season. Can they
- 23:18Speaker 2: win 10 in a row? No, I ain't doing that.
- 23:22Speaker 1: Hold on, hold on, hold on.
- 23:23Speaker 2: Let's see. Seattle, San Francisco, Houston defenses.
- 23:27Speaker 1: Those three defenses alone, I'm telling you right now, and
- 23:31Speaker 1: they don't even see those teams.
- 23:32Speaker 2: Oh, you want the Giants, too. Oh, hey, look here.
- 23:35Speaker 2: Look here.
- 23:36Speaker 1: The Giants showed me something going down to Houston and
- 23:39Speaker 1: beating Houston in overtime in Houston. And people keep saying,
- 23:43Speaker 1: you know, Dallas is going to win a division. Don't
- 23:47Speaker 1: count out the Giants. Hey, John Harbaugh's got those boys
- 23:51Speaker 1: believing in themselves over there, man.
- 23:55Speaker 2: They are definitely believing in themselves. They're ready, man. Sometimes,
- 23:59Speaker 2: you know, you.
- 24:01Speaker 3: Just need to get guys to just Just go out
- 24:04Speaker 3: there and just play hard, man.
- 24:05Speaker 1: Yep, yep.
- 24:06Speaker 2: And what's Cam Scadable do?
- 24:09Speaker 1: Oh, my goodness. Oh, my goodness. That dude's going to
- 24:12Speaker 1: hurt somebody, man. That's why he's got a body.
- 24:14Speaker 2: He's going to hurt somebody. Hey, look. You see how
- 24:17Speaker 2: he lowered his head and knocked somebody back? Grand man, bro.
- 24:23Speaker 2: Grand man.
- 24:24Speaker 1: But anyway, I thought the Eagles' best, the most impressive drive,
- 24:29Speaker 1: not only of the night, possibly one of the most
- 24:31Speaker 1: impressive drives of the season, they come out at halftime, right?
- 24:36Speaker 1: They put together a 17-play, 84-yard drive that consumed over
- 24:42Speaker 1: nine minutes and take the lead. And then they give
- 24:46Speaker 1: it right back. Now, we talk about the Eagles defense
- 24:53Speaker 1: not being able to touch Dak Prescott. But I thought
- 24:56Speaker 1: the Eagles' offensive line, as we go inside the line,
- 24:59Speaker 1: I thought the Eagles' offensive line did a pretty good job.
- 25:01Speaker 1: You know, Dickinson was bad. Kendall was bad. I thought
- 25:04Speaker 1: that offensive line did a very good job, number one,
- 25:06Speaker 1: opening up holes in the running game. And for the
- 25:08Speaker 1: most part, number two, protecting Tanner McKee.
- 25:12Speaker 2: Yep, they did.
- 25:13Speaker 3: They did a phenomenal job, you know. And you didn't
- 25:15Speaker 3: see as many all-side penalties.
- 25:17Speaker 2: You know why? Because Kendall understands how to snap the ball.
- 25:20Speaker 3: At the rate that Jordan Milano and the rest of
- 25:23Speaker 3: the tackles don't get called for all-sides.
- 25:26Speaker 2: They jumped the snap.
- 25:27Speaker 3: So the center has to snap it a tad bit
- 25:29Speaker 3: earlier than usual because those guys know how to do that.
- 25:33Speaker 3: And Majors didn't know how to do that, so that's
- 25:36Speaker 3: why you got Jordan Milano with all those all-sides penalties
- 25:38Speaker 3: because he's trying to get off on a snap count,
- 25:41Speaker 3: and Majors didn't know how to snap it on a
- 25:44Speaker 3: snap count. So many things, man. There were so many
- 25:47Speaker 3: things that just having those two back. just kind of solidified,
- 25:51Speaker 3: you know. The inside run game, we went to the
- 25:54Speaker 3: well to the left side just too many times. They
- 25:56Speaker 3: just started slanting, pinching, and everything else to that left
- 25:59Speaker 3: side because they couldn't stop them.
- 26:02Speaker 2: So, you know, we're going to learn. We're going to
- 26:04Speaker 2: try to get that right side going in the right direction.
- 26:06Speaker 3: I think Bell played pretty good, even though he let
- 26:08Speaker 3: somebody beat him across his face on.
- 26:11Speaker 2: That run play.
- 26:11Speaker 3: But on the most part, he played well, man, and
- 26:16Speaker 3: he was trying to dominate people.
- 26:17Speaker 2: So Bell's learning, man. He's definitely learning. Man, what do
- 26:23Speaker 2: we do with this team? What do we make of
- 26:25Speaker 2: this team?
- 26:25Speaker 1: I mean, three, four consecutive weeks, they've had 25 or
- 26:28Speaker 1: more players on the injury report. 25 or more players
- 26:33Speaker 1: on the injury report. I thought one of the most
- 26:36Speaker 1: telling tales was when the TV cameras went and ISOed
- 26:42Speaker 1: Howie Roseman sitting up in a box with this bewildered
- 26:45Speaker 1: look on his face. And I think that's how we
- 26:48Speaker 1: in the media– the fan base, and probably the team
- 26:52Speaker 1: feels right now. It's like, where do you go? What
- 26:54Speaker 1: do you do? How do you keep morale up? How
- 26:56Speaker 1: do you keep dissension from setting in on this team, Bear?
- 27:00Speaker 3: I've been through a situation where the same thing happened
- 27:03Speaker 3: to me in 1998, my last year with the Eagles.
- 27:09Speaker 3: We went 3-13, and the worst thing about it, man,
- 27:12Speaker 3: I mean, I'm not even talking about our officer coordinator
- 27:15Speaker 3: getting fired, Dana Bible, and then Bill Musgrave, um, Former quarterback.
- 27:19Speaker 3: He was on the quarterback roster the year before. He
- 27:23Speaker 3: became the offensive coordinator, and we couldn't do anything with
- 27:25Speaker 3: the offense. And guys just going out there. It's not
- 27:30Speaker 3: really that, but guys going out freestyling, doing what they
- 27:33Speaker 3: want to do, especially on the defensive side of the ball,
- 27:35Speaker 3: where they were just doing their thing. Instead of trying to,
- 27:38Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying, keep the quarterback locked into
- 27:41Speaker 3: out of the pocket, they start freestyling, going in and
- 27:44Speaker 3: trying to get sacks. And guys, you know, run around
- 27:47Speaker 3: doing what they want to do. running backs running the
- 27:49Speaker 3: wrong plays because they see a hole over somewhere else.
- 27:54Speaker 3: You got to play within a system, man. You don't
- 27:55Speaker 3: want guys to go out there and start doing that, man.
- 27:58Speaker 2: It was bad, bro. And I don't want to see
- 28:00Speaker 2: this team fall apart like that.
- 28:02Speaker 3: But, man, once you start losing like this, man, losing
- 28:04Speaker 3: is an ugly thing, especially with guys that aren't used
- 28:06Speaker 3: to losing like that.
- 28:08Speaker 1: Okay, you were out there on the practice field for
- 28:10Speaker 1: training camp. You've been around a lot of these guys.
- 28:14Speaker 1: When the SOS goes out like this and the ship
- 28:16Speaker 1: is sinking, In your estimation, who in their locker room
- 28:20Speaker 1: is supposed to be.
- 28:21Speaker 2: The guys that holds everybody together?
- 28:27Speaker 3: It's tough, man, because it's hard for you to be
- 28:30Speaker 3: a guy that's saying something when you're getting your ass kicked.
- 28:33Speaker 2: That's tough. That's tough, man.
- 28:35Speaker 3: So, you know, I look to Jordan Davis being a
- 28:39Speaker 3: guy to be a vocal guy. But, man, he's got
- 28:42Speaker 3: to play better. You know what I'm saying? If you
- 28:44Speaker 3: don't have any results on the field, you know, players
- 28:46Speaker 3: aren't going to follow you. I mean, we let a
- 28:52Speaker 3: lot of those guys go. Or they retired or they
- 28:56Speaker 3: just left.
- 28:57Speaker 2: So, I mean, in all actuality, it's going to have
- 29:00Speaker 2: to be Tanner McKee. Man, hold up.
- 29:04Speaker 1: Ain't nobody going to listen to Tanner?
- 29:07Speaker 2: They're going to have to.
- 29:09Speaker 3: He is QB1 now. He's not QB2. He is QB1 now.
- 29:14Speaker 3: He is the starting quarterback. He has to be somebody
- 29:17Speaker 3: that they listen to, that they believe in, most of all.
- 29:20Speaker 3: They've got to believe that he can go out there
- 29:22Speaker 3: and do it. Saquon Barkley. They'll rally behind him.
- 29:26Speaker 2: Maybe Saquon. Okay. Jordan Malata. He's had a great season.
- 29:33Speaker 2: He's playing well. Okay.
- 29:34Speaker 3: He can lead the troops. But then I get to
- 29:38Speaker 3: the defensive side of the ball.
- 29:39Speaker 2: Yeah. I really don't see any.
- 29:41Speaker 3: I mean, Zach Bond is a more I'm-a-show-you type of
- 29:45Speaker 3: leader than talking about it. You know?
- 29:48Speaker 2: Okay.
- 29:52Speaker 3: Grenard is a leader, but he's got to be on
- 29:54Speaker 3: the field more. He's got to play more. He's been
- 29:57Speaker 3: injured too much.
- 30:00Speaker 4: Hey, Philly fans, game day is stressful enough.
- 30:04Speaker 2: Parking, traffic, long lines.
- 30:07Speaker 4: We've all been there. But when it comes to your cannabis.
- 30:10Speaker 4: Camden Apothecary makes it easy. This is the dispensary for
- 30:15Speaker 4: sports fans. Just minutes outside of Philly with plenty of

- 30:26Speaker 4: all about the guest experience. Their staff makes sure you
- 30:30Speaker 4: feel taken care of every time you walk in. Plus,

- 30:38Speaker 4: So whether you're stocking up for the tailgate, the watch party,
- 30:41Speaker 4: or celebrating a big win, you know you're getting the
- 30:44Speaker 4: good stuff without overpaying. They even show love to the
- 30:48Speaker 4: community with specials for fans, students, service members, and healthcare pros.
- 30:54Speaker 4: Camden Apothecary, top quality cannabis, great prices, and an experience
- 30:58Speaker 4: made for Philly fans 21 and up.
- 31:02Speaker 1: See, your hesitation tells me exactly what I'm thinking.
- 31:07Speaker 2: There's no definitive, you.
- 31:09Speaker 1: Know, because when that question is asked from a former
- 31:13Speaker 1: player who watches his former team closely or from a
- 31:16Speaker 1: media person who watches and covers that team closely, usually
- 31:20Speaker 1: there's instantaneous answer.
- 31:21Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, this player.
- 31:22Speaker 1: I mean, when I covered a team, you know, back
- 31:25Speaker 1: in the day in the early 2000s, early mid 2000s,
- 31:27Speaker 1: you asked me that question.
- 31:29Speaker 2: Oh, that's easy. Trot, dog.
- 31:31Speaker 1: You see what I'm saying? You know, John Runyon, Trey Thomas,
- 31:35Speaker 1: you had a whole plethora of guys. And you're not
- 31:38Speaker 1: the only one who has said it because I've had
- 31:40Speaker 1: that discussion with other people. And, you know, who's the
- 31:42Speaker 1: leaders on this team?
- 31:45Speaker 2: Let me see. BG? Oh, BG's gone. He's not here. Yeah,
- 31:50Speaker 2: BG gone. Lane's gone too. Jesus. Who else is there? Kelsey.
- 32:01Speaker 2: Kelsey's gone. Fletcher ain't here. Fletcher.
- 32:08Speaker 1: Man, you digging deep into the earth now. But somebody
- 32:13Speaker 1: has to take control, other than Nick Sirianni. Now, at
- 32:16Speaker 1: this juncture, team on a five-game losing streak, what is
- 32:20Speaker 1: Nick Sirianni's role in all this? Now, in years past,
- 32:24Speaker 1: when things were going fine, I mean, you know, teams winning.
- 32:27Speaker 1: You know, everybody's happy when a team's winning and everybody
- 32:30Speaker 1: gets to the playoffs. This is the first time in
- 32:33Speaker 1: his tenure in Philadelphia. Now, his first year they started
- 32:36Speaker 1: out losing, but they gained momentum.
- 32:37Speaker 2: They won. He got in the playoffs.
- 32:39Speaker 1: This is the first time in his tenure in Philadelphia
- 32:42Speaker 1: Nick has had to go through something like this. What
- 32:45Speaker 1: is his role now in terms of holding this all together?
- 32:48Speaker 2: That's what it's been, man.
- 32:50Speaker 3: He's got to be that emotional leader, the guy that
- 32:53Speaker 3: pulls out what they're missing, pulls out that toughness that
- 32:57Speaker 3: they're not having. And I don't know how you do
- 33:00Speaker 3: that without going out there and having physicality on the field.
- 33:05Speaker 3: I don't know if he can tell those veterans, hey, man,
- 33:07Speaker 3: let's go. We got to get more physical. Let's put
- 33:09Speaker 3: the pads back on. Let's go out there and be
- 33:11Speaker 3: physical again and practice. I don't know if they got
- 33:14Speaker 3: that type of, you know, it has a lot to
- 33:18Speaker 3: do with injuries, man.
- 33:20Speaker 2: As far as injuries being the main influence on it.
- 33:24Speaker 3: This is a tough situation, man, because I don't know
- 33:28Speaker 3: how to go forward and rectify the situation because the
- 33:32Speaker 3: situation to me, more so than anything, physicality.
- 33:36Speaker 2: Number one, but number two, health, health as well. Yeah. Yeah.
- 33:41Speaker 3: And that's, I think that's one of the biggest things
- 33:43Speaker 3: right there. Their health is not, I mean, health is trash.
- 33:48Speaker 3: They just don't have it.
- 33:50Speaker 1: And not, not only that, I'd be, to be honest
- 33:53Speaker 1: with you, I would be shocked if Saquon plays on
- 33:57Speaker 1: a short week against Washington. Number one, Number two, we
- 34:01Speaker 1: saw Damian Pierce go to the locker room. So who's
- 34:05Speaker 1: running the ball next game?
- 34:07Speaker 2: We're going to hold trials at the Wawa.
- 34:08Speaker 3: That's what we're going to do. What's wrong with you, man?
- 34:14Speaker 3: Something wrong with you? No, we're going to St. Joe's Prep.
- 34:17Speaker 2: Oh, jeez. Because where else are we going? We got
- 34:22Speaker 2: Dan Blue. We got Blue. He's still there. Blue Bayou, okay.
- 34:28Speaker 2: And then.
- 34:30Speaker 2: Elijah? Yeah, we got him. That's it. Come on, man.
- 34:36Speaker 2: Come on, man.
- 34:37Speaker 3: I've never seen anything like this from an Eagles standpoint.
- 34:41Speaker 3: And I watched the 49ers go through this the last
- 34:44Speaker 3: two or three years. And they figured out a way
- 34:46Speaker 3: to get it done.
- 34:47Speaker 2: I don't see how they're doing it. Yet he did.
- 34:49Speaker 3: I mean, and I don't understand, man. They still practicing
- 34:53Speaker 3: by that electrical place, man? Was it causing all this?
- 34:56Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. They don't have an electrical place by us.
- 34:58Speaker 2: What's going on?
- 34:59Speaker 1: Hey, maybe we need some electricity to jolt some of
- 35:01Speaker 1: these dudes, man.
- 35:04Speaker 3: Maybe it's the stench from that little lake we used
- 35:08Speaker 3: to fish in over there.
- 35:10Speaker 2: Maybe that's what it is, man.
- 35:13Speaker 1: You know, sometimes when things are going bad, B. Brooks,
- 35:15Speaker 1: you got to laugh before you cry, right? And all
- 35:17Speaker 1: we can do right now.
- 35:19Speaker 2: We're going to go take a bath in the lake, Minnetonka.
- 35:23Speaker 2: Maybe 10 minutes there. Then he brought it. Oh, my goodness. Hey, man, look.
- 35:31Speaker 1: We got 10 more weeks of this, man. 10 more weeks.
- 35:34Speaker 2: I can't deal with you for 10 more weeks, man.
- 35:37Speaker 2: Come on, man. Come on, man. Come on. We'll be
- 35:41Speaker 2: in trouble, man, because we're going to tell the truth.
- 35:43Speaker 2: That's the problem. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm going to tell
- 35:45Speaker 2: it like it is. That's the problem. We're going to
- 35:49Speaker 2: tell the truth. And I think that's what it is, man.
- 35:52Speaker 1: Health.
- 35:53Speaker 3: And being physical, those are the two things that we're
- 35:56Speaker 3: lacking right now. You take those two things and you
- 35:58Speaker 3: change them around, that's not a lot.
- 36:00Speaker 2: That's not a lot.
- 36:01Speaker 3: I mean, if you can get guys playing physical, that
- 36:04Speaker 3: shouldn't be something we need to be talking about. But
- 36:07Speaker 3: if you can get guys playing physical and then get
- 36:10Speaker 3: them healthy, we.
- 36:11Speaker 2: Got a shot, man. We got an opportunity.
- 36:14Speaker 1: Well, we sit here and laugh now, and hopefully we'll
- 36:16Speaker 1: be smiling after Sunday night against the Washington Commanders. I
- 36:21Speaker 1: can't wait to see the matchup, number one. and then
- 36:23Speaker 1: talk about it the next day with my man B
- 36:25Speaker 1: Brooks next week. So until next week, for Bear Brooks,
- 36:28Speaker 1: I'm Derek Gunn. This has been Birds Weekly, presented by
- 36:32Speaker 1: the inside of the Birds Network. Keep your fingers crossed, everybody.
- 36:36Speaker 1: We need all the help we can get.
