- 0:00Chapter 7 of Job Lord please open her eyes and ears as we
- 0:06read through this and let us get a message from you and
- 0:10understand this. We ask this in Jesus name Amen.
- 0:15Chapter 7 of Job do not mortals have OK so this is Job talking
- 0:21still continuation from chapter 3.
- 0:25This is Job saying this, Do Do not mortals have hard service on
- 0:29earth? Are not their days like those of
- 0:32hired laborers? Like a slave longing for the
- 0:36evening shadows, or a hired laborer waiting to be paid?
- 0:40So I have been allotted months of futility and nights of misery
- 0:45have been assigned to me. When I lay down, I think, how
- 0:48long before I get up? The night drags on.
- 0:52I toss and turn until dawn. My body is clothed with worms
- 0:57and scabs. My skin is broken and festering.
- 1:01My days are swifter than a weaver's shuttle, and they come
- 1:05to an end without hope. Remember, O God, that my life is
- 1:11but a breath. My eyes will never see happiness
- 1:14again. I want to pause right there
- 1:16because this whole section verses 6 through 10 are just
- 1:23continual negative thoughts. And I think about that.
- 1:29I mean, obviously it's justified in the sense that Job has
- 1:34horrible things happening to him and he's suffering.
- 1:39So when you're suffering like that, you're like, how long is
- 1:42this going to go? But this like desperation and
- 1:45hopelessness. It's it seems to me, and we'll
- 1:49get a little bit later in this chapter, seems to me these are
- 1:54enemy influences and that there's some enemy of God, which
- 1:59God did give Satan access to Job.
- 2:02And this desperation and lack of hope may be inspired by the
- 2:10enemy. So I'll continue reading this,
- 2:13but this I'll start with six again, just about these negative
- 2:17thoughts that he's having. My days are swifter than a
- 2:20weaver's shuttle and they come to end without hope.
- 2:24Remember, O God, that my life is but a breath.
- 2:27My eyes will never see happiness again.
- 2:30You know, he really doesn't know that because later on at the end
- 2:33of the book, things are restored.
- 2:36So what we might think never is going to get better could
- 2:40actually get better with God because God does like doubly
- 2:45restore. Continuing verse 8.
- 2:48The eye that now sees me will see me no longer.
- 2:53You will look for me, but I will be no more as a cloud vanishes
- 2:57and is gone. So one who goes down to the
- 3:01grave does not return. I'm going to pause there too,
- 3:04because I don't know if Job knew about the resurrection.
- 3:09Did Job know about the fact that we will be living and be doing
- 3:16the things that we do on earth? The only difference is going to
- 3:19be that sin and all evil will be gone from the presence there.
- 3:24That's what people hope for and not hope, like I hope it
- 3:28happens, but that's what people are positive, you know, like
- 3:32true believers see that and know that and are confident in that.
- 3:38And that's why true believers can endure things that many
- 3:44people look and say, like, how can they be like that?
- 3:50How can they have that positive attitude through what they're
- 3:54going through? It's because of knowing God.
- 3:59So let's see verse 10. He will never come to his house
- 4:03again. His place will know him no more.
- 4:06Therefore, I will not keep silent.
- 4:09I will speak out in anguish of my spirit.
- 4:12I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.
- 4:15Am I the sea or the monster of the deep that you put me
- 4:19underground when I think my bed will comfort me and my couch
- 4:23will ease my complaint? Even then, you frighten me with
- 4:28dreams and terrify me with visions so that I prefer
- 4:33strangling and death rather than this body of mine.
- 4:37This is where I'm talking about the enemy coming in because God
- 4:42would not be frightening him with dreams and terrifying him
- 4:49with visions so that he prefers strangling and death.
- 4:54That's the enemy. The enemy seeks to steal, kill
- 4:58and destroy. So here I think Job doesn't
- 5:02know, and we benefit from knowing what happened in
- 5:04chapters 1 and 2. So Job doesn't know that Satan
- 5:07is coming after him, but he's having dreams and visions.
- 5:11So if we have dreams and visions and they are negative, they
- 5:16aren't uplifting and building up and restoring, they could very
- 5:21well be from the enemy. And I think those of us who have
- 5:26dreams have to have a discernment about whether this
- 5:29is from God or from the enemy. And we won't know for sure
- 5:34unless it comes true. And then if it comes true, then
- 5:37we'll know that it was from God and not the enemy.
- 5:41I despise my life. I would not live forever.
- 5:46Let me alone. My days have no meaning.
- 5:49What is mankind that you make so much of them?
- 5:52That you give them so much attention?
- 5:55That you examine them every morning and test them every
- 5:58moment? Will you never look away from me
- 6:02or let me alone even for an instant?
- 6:05If I have sinned, what have I done to you?
- 6:08You who see everything we do? Why have you made me your
- 6:13target? Have I become a burden to you?
- 6:16Why do you not pardon my offenses and forgive my sins?
- 6:20For I will soon lie down in the dust.
- 6:22You will search for me, but I will be no more.
- 6:26So Job is, you know he he should know God better.
- 6:32Why do you not pardon my offenses and forgive my sins?
- 6:37That should be a clue to us. If we don't have sin in our
- 6:41life, if we are repentant to God and bad things are happening,
- 6:45it's probably not God. If God gave this information,
- 6:51whether it's just a parable, a made-up story that God gave, or
- 6:55if it's actually really true, we don't know.
- 6:59There's quite a bit of detail in here, but we don't know, I
- 7:04guess, until some evidence comes up that shows us that the book
- 7:07of Job was true. I think it's true.
- 7:10But whether or not he was a real person or whether it was just
- 7:15something that was revealed by God, but it certainly had a
- 7:18purpose to reveal the enemy, to reveal the plots of the enemy,
- 7:23and to give us discernment. What, you know, like God will
- 7:28put pressure on us. He'll let the enemy have access
- 7:31to us when we sin because that's rebellion against God.
- 7:34But if we don't have any sin that we've, you know, we've
- 7:39repented of whatever sin comes to mind, and we do that
- 7:43regularly. I think this is something that a
- 7:45lot of people miss is that we regularly need to repent of our
- 7:49sins. If, if the Holy Spirit brings
- 7:51something to mind that we've done as an offense to God, we
- 7:55need to get that out of our life because sin separates us from
- 7:59God. So we have a life, you know,
- 8:02when you become a believer and don't want to be a hypocrite and
- 8:09actually you want to live a Christian life that involves
- 8:13daily examination of self. I mean, just that we, you know,
- 8:20we ask God, you know, bring to mind anything that I'm doing
- 8:23that is offensive to you that you want to refine and make
- 8:28holy, because that's what the Holy Spirit does.
- 8:30He refines us and makes us holy, makes us more like the image of
- 8:35God. When we allow him to do that,
- 8:38that's what will happen. And when we come into agreement
- 8:41with him, that's what not by our own power, but by the power of
- 8:45the Holy Spirit, this change happens.
- 8:48And anyway, I'm wondering about about Job and not knowing that
- 8:55God Forgives when we ask for forgiveness and he pardons us.
- 8:59So we he should know or maybe not at this point, but because
- 9:05this was maybe new, this was the first time being tested
- 9:09happened. Or maybe, you know, he didn't
- 9:11have the book of Job to read. So if he was a real person and
- 9:17but God is revealing this to all of us, so then we can know that
- 9:21if we've if we're in a good relationship with God and if
- 9:27we've repented of our sins, God Forgives us.
- 9:32So if bad things are happening to us, it could be it's, you
- 9:37know, it's more than likely because history repeats or
- 9:41rhymes. It's more than likely as a
- 9:43result of what we learned in Job, it's more than likely an
- 9:47enemy attack. And then how do we resist the
- 9:51enemy? The Bible tells us just that.
- 9:55Resist him and he will flee. And if we praise God, if we
- 10:00worship God, I mean, the enemy seeks to separate us from God.
- 10:04So if we just do the opposite of what the enemy's trying to get
- 10:08us to do, the enemy wants to take our life.
- 10:11You know, remember, the enemy wants to steal, kill and
- 10:16destroy. So if we stand strong against
- 10:20that and give God praise in all circumstances, this makes sense.
- 10:26Now give God praise in all circumstances.
- 10:30The enemies, you know, if he can't budget us to reject God,
- 10:36you think he's going to waste a lot of time there?
- 10:38He's going to move on to somebody else because why would
- 10:42he keep doing something to somebody that you know, isn't,
- 10:46is, is resisting him? Like here we see that Job is
- 10:50kind of falling to this. He's thinking that God is doing
- 10:55all this now. God is allowing it, but he's
- 10:59allowing it for a reason and, and allowing the enemy access.
- 11:07And it's kind of interesting. I wasn't thinking about this
- 11:10earlier, but I actually had a conversation with someone today
- 11:14about Job, and we'll see later on in the books that Job has
- 11:20some pride. So Job was very righteous and we
- 11:25know that God hates pride, so that may be why God allowed
- 11:30Satan to test Job. So maybe it really was because
- 11:35of some something in Job that he didn't see and he had to go
- 11:40through this suffering to recognize this.
- 11:45We'll see that in later chapters.
- 11:47But that was kind of an eye opening revelation to me because
- 11:52God didn't really say that. He didn't tell Satan that there
- 11:55was anything wrong with Job. He said he was a righteous 1.
- 11:59And so God allowed it. But God also knows all of our
- 12:03thoughts and maybe he didn't, you know, let Satan in on what
- 12:07God was thinking about Job. Like maybe Job was getting
- 12:11prideful because of all the blessings that he received from
- 12:14God. And so God thought, OK, let's
- 12:18test Job because I have been doing all these things to him
- 12:21and see, you know what happens. We don't know God's thoughts,
- 12:26but that's another perspective of what God could have been
- 12:30doing at that time. So anyway, just something to
- 12:33think about. So I'll go through the questions
- 12:37and answers for Chapter 7. How is life like slavery?
- 12:42This is another word picture. Job wanted his suffering to end.
- 12:45He was comparing his desire for the end of his suffering to the
- 12:49longing of a slave or servant for the end of the work day or
- 12:53better still for payday. A troubled life is like slavery
- 12:58because there seems to be no escape and the end is nowhere.
- 13:01Insight What kind of disease did Job have?
- 13:05We don't know Job's actual ailment, but his sores may have
- 13:09been boils, painful bacteria, infections of the skin which
- 13:13attracted parasites. What is a weaver's shuttle?
- 13:17This is an instrument used with a loom to weave the cross or
- 13:22wolf threads of a piece of fabric between the warp threads
- 13:28held lengthwise in the loom. The speed with which a Weaver
- 13:32throws the shuttle from one side to the other is a striking
- 13:36illustration of the brevity of life.
- 13:40Interesting. Had Job given up hope?
- 13:43Job looked to death as his hope for relief from the pain and
- 13:48suffering. In his despair.
- 13:49He saw no other basis for hope in this life.
- 13:54Does God send nightmares? The Bible speaks of God's
- 13:57occasional use of dreams to communicate messages.
- 14:02Nightmares are another matter. Perhaps this is meant to be
- 14:06understood figuratively as one of several ways Joe's expressed
- 14:10his view that God was responsible for his suffering.
- 14:13Job may also have been communicating that even his
- 14:16sleep was filled with pain and terror.
- 14:19I, on the other hand, think that this was the enemy because we
- 14:23know that the God gave the let the allowed the enemy to have
- 14:27access to Job. And I do believe that some of
- 14:31these dreams that are threatening and scary are from
- 14:37evil. So that's just my opinion, and I
- 14:40guess it's contrary to what the study Bible says.
- 14:44Can someone who trusts in God really get as discouraged as Job
- 14:48was? Yes, even those with great faith
- 14:52have moments of despair. Moses wanted to die in Numbers
- 14:58Chapter 11, as did Elijah in First Kings chapter 19, and
- 15:04Jeremiah wished he had never been born in Jeremiah 20.
- 15:08Job wanted release from his suffering.
- 15:12Does God continually test us? No, at least not in the
- 15:17unmerciful sense that Joe was implying here.
- 15:21We should remember that these are words of a deeply despondent
- 15:25man, one who saw death as preferable to life.
- 15:29Those whom God delivers from the depths of despair see things
- 15:34differently than those who have yet to experience such valleys
- 15:39in life. As to the purpose of being
- 15:41tested, there's an article about that which I will read.
- 15:46So one last question, and then we'll read the article about why
- 15:50did testing come to Job. So this other question is, why
- 15:54wouldn't Job receive any assurance of forgiveness?
- 15:58Job had no external physical evidence that his life was
- 16:02approved by God. According to the views of the
- 16:06day, he was continually being judged.
- 16:09So it seemed that not only was he guilty of sin, but his
- 16:13sacrifices and prayers had also amounted to nothing.
- 16:18So there's something else that I think we should remember that's
- 16:20in Scripture, that God hears the prayers of the righteous.
- 16:24And so we should know that if we, if nothing comes to mind
- 16:28when we ask God to reveal to us any unrepentant sin that we need
- 16:33to repent of and nothing at all comes to mind, there's no guilt.
- 16:39Then if if that's the way we are, then we should know that
- 16:44God is hearing our prayers. And God, he wants us to get
- 16:49close to us, to him. He wants us to repent.
- 16:54So don't you think that God will reveal what is not in alignment
- 17:01with God because he wants that relationship.
- 17:03So if we ask God, God show me or bring to mind whatever thing I'm
- 17:09doing in my life that you are not happy with so that I may
- 17:13address it, God will do that. He will bring it to your
- 17:16thoughts. And I've said this before, but
- 17:20you know, as much as we hate guilt, I think guilt is actually
- 17:24good because it's actually, perhaps it's the Holy Spirit
- 17:29actually making us look at something we don't want to look
- 17:32at. But if we address it, then we
- 17:35can get it out of our life. And it's, it just feels so much
- 17:39freer when you get rid of that stuff that you feel guilty
- 17:44about. And, and I, I believe God does
- 17:47that for us. So if you don't like feeling
- 17:49guilty, turn it over to God and ask God to change that aspect of
- 17:54your life. That's happened to me and he's
- 17:57done it. So anyway, let's get to the last
- 18:00question and then we'll wrap it up.
- 18:02Why did testing come to Job? There is no single simple
- 18:07explanation for why believers undergo suffering, but the Bible
- 18:11offers several reasons. First, testing strengthens our
- 18:16character, James says The testing of your faith produces
- 18:21perseverance. That's found in James chapter
- 18:24one, verse 3. Painful situations produce
- 18:29character the same way regular exercise builds muscle tone.
- 18:35Peter adds that testing proves our faith is genuine.
- 18:40And that's in first Peter 17. When the when the heat is on, we
- 18:45reveal who we actually are and what we truly believe.
- 18:50Peter also suggests that this testing of faith gives honor to
- 18:55God. Remaining faithful despite
- 18:58prolonged agony testifies to others how much we value and
- 19:03trust God. Job notes that testing can rid
- 19:07our lives of unrefined qualities.
- 19:10Job chapter 23, verse 10. Much the way a blast furnace
- 19:16brings out impurities on in metals, testing removes sinful
- 19:21attitudes in us and we come forth as gold.
- 19:26The writer of Hebrews says the testing proves believers are
- 19:31God's children. Hebrews chapter 12 six through
- 19:358. Every wise parent disciplines a
- 19:39child in love to help the child develop.
- 19:44When God brings testing, it reminds us that we are his
- 19:48children. Isn't that beautiful?
- 19:51Why did testing come to Job? It never occurred to Job that
- 19:55God was allowing the testing because He was pleased with Job.
- 20:00Have you considered this is a quote?
- 20:02Have you considered my servant Job?
- 20:05There is no one on earth like him That was in Job chapter one
- 20:09verse 8. There may be no reason behind
- 20:12our testing other than that God is pleased with us.
- 20:17He may want to reveal Himself to us and others through such
- 20:21tests. So that gives an idea.
- 20:25So I hope you well, thank you for listening to this podcast.

- 20:34chapter a day and also share this with someone if you think
- 20:39it could help someone. And hope you have a wonderful
