- 0:03Speaker 1: Jeff Lagwald is brought to you by the International Brotherhood
- 0:05Speaker 1: of Electrical Workers ib e W Local sixty eight. You
- 0:08Speaker 1: start with a job, you end with a career, Jeff
- 0:11Speaker 1: Lakewald ESPN. He joins us right now here on a
- 0:14Speaker 1: Friday afternoon ahead of Broncos Ravens. Here we are, Jeff,
- 0:17Speaker 1: We're back in the world where Nanson Romo do a
- 0:19Speaker 1: Broncos game to air quotes playoff teams at the moment,
- 0:24Speaker 1: the five seed in the six seed in the AFC
- 0:27Speaker 1: going head to head. The question is now is is
- 0:30Speaker 1: bow Knicks ready to meet this moment? What do you
- 0:33Speaker 1: think of this matchup of bow Knicks Number one going
- 0:37Speaker 1: up against the Baltimore defense that a struggle, but also
- 0:40Speaker 1: number two having to go punch for punch with Lamar Jackson.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Yeah, and I think I think the Broncos will be aggressive.
- 0:50Speaker 2: I think they will. They will ask bo Nicks to
- 0:53Speaker 2: throw the ball early and often this Sunday, And you know,
- 0:57Speaker 2: I think sometimes you know, folks think, you know, the
- 1:03Speaker 2: right move against a tremendous offense is to keep the
- 1:06Speaker 2: ball away from them. But I don't think it was
- 1:10Speaker 2: an accident that in the days leading up to the
- 1:13Speaker 2: Carolina game, Sean Payton told the a story of Bill
- 1:18Speaker 2: Parcells before they faced the Chiefs, when Peyton was on
- 1:23Speaker 2: the Giants staff, that they were going to have to
- 1:26Speaker 2: go outscore, you know, the Chiefs, And I just think
- 1:32Speaker 2: that's his philosophy coming into this game. I think he
- 1:36Speaker 2: will think that there are plays to be made against
- 1:39Speaker 2: that pass defense, and I think he believes bo Knicks
- 1:43Speaker 2: can make them. So I think they will be aggressive,
- 1:46Speaker 2: and you know, if that's the right decision, we will
- 1:49Speaker 2: know Monday morning.
- 1:51Speaker 3: All Right, that's interesting, Jeff. I mean, we saw that
- 1:53Speaker 3: Michael Burton got released from the rosters. I guess going
- 1:56Speaker 3: to go back on the practice squad. I'm sure we
- 1:57Speaker 3: haven't seen the last of him. But with what you're
- 2:00Speaker 3: describing to me, should we expect back around the forty
- 2:04Speaker 3: plus pass attempts that we saw earlier in the year,
- 2:07Speaker 3: And if so, are they ready to handle it now?
- 2:10Speaker 2: Yeah? Andy, I don't know if it'll be in the
- 2:12Speaker 2: pass attempts where we see the aggressiveness. I think it's
- 2:15Speaker 2: more going to be. You know, Cleveland last week made
- 2:21Speaker 2: plays against the other Raven safety, not Hamilton, but they
- 2:26Speaker 2: went after Eddie Jackson, including on the game winning touchdown
- 2:31Speaker 2: in the final minutes. When Baltimore, even despite their troubles
- 2:37Speaker 2: on pass defense, they blitz. When they choose to blitz,
- 2:41Speaker 2: they come with a lot of people, you know, the
- 2:44Speaker 2: proverbial zero zero coverage, and on Cleveland's winning play last week,
- 2:50Speaker 2: that was a zero blitz. So with the game on
- 2:53Speaker 2: the line, they're willing to come after you. And I
- 2:56Speaker 2: think in those situations, I think they're going to have
- 3:01Speaker 2: two or three or three or four plays on the
- 3:03Speaker 2: play sheet that they have drilled into Bonnicks that if
- 3:07Speaker 2: you see it coming, this is what you should go with.
- 3:11Speaker 2: So I think we'll see the aggressiveness in situations like that.
- 3:15Speaker 2: You know, I don't know if it'll mean they pile
- 3:18Speaker 2: up the attempts the attempts, but I think they will
- 3:21Speaker 2: try to push the ball down the field when they
- 3:23Speaker 2: think they have an advantage.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Talking to Jeff Legwell to ESPN Legy, the last four
- 3:27Speaker 1: Broncos victories were against ninety seven year old Aaron Rodgers, Gardner,
- 3:34Speaker 1: Minshew Spencer, Rattler, and Bryce Young. It's a slightly different
- 3:39Speaker 1: challenge this week going up against Lamar Jackson. This is
- 3:43Speaker 1: an excellent Broncos defense but vance Joseph loves loves loves
- 3:49Speaker 1: to blitz. That may not be the best weapon here
- 3:53Speaker 1: against Lamar Jackson. How do you think he attacks this
- 3:56Speaker 1: Baltimore offense.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I think they're gonna if they blitz, it'll be
- 4:04Speaker 2: you know, sort of the containment variety. Bring the extra
- 4:08Speaker 2: guy on the edge, and he doesn't fold the edge
- 4:11Speaker 2: as much as he would against most core. He kind
- 4:14Speaker 2: of hangs a little bit and closes steadily. You know,
- 4:20Speaker 2: I just think, you know, you see it over and over,
- 4:23Speaker 2: you know, I charted some of the Ravens games, and
- 4:26Speaker 2: you just see it over and over. A team, a
- 4:28Speaker 2: defense will have them backed up inside the fifteen to
- 4:33Speaker 2: start a drive, and suddenly it's Lamar Scramble, Lamar scramble,
- 4:40Speaker 2: a big pass, big pass, play down the hash and
- 4:43Speaker 2: suddenly they're over the fifty. There was one in the
- 4:47Speaker 2: in the Bengal game where it's or the Browns game
- 4:50Speaker 2: rather last week, where it's Lamar Scramble, Lamar Scramble Derrick
- 4:55Speaker 2: Henry for thirty nine yards. They're across the fifty. They
- 4:59Speaker 2: just just Troy field position with him. In scramble situations,
- 5:05Speaker 2: teams will have him backed up. They come after him. Uh,
- 5:09Speaker 2: and then he destroys that idea just because of what
- 5:12Speaker 2: he can do as a runner. And you know, every season,
- 5:18Speaker 2: I I you know, I took, I took some guff
- 5:21Speaker 2: when he came out in the draft, But I said
- 5:24Speaker 2: then when I looked at him, I saw a guy
- 5:27Speaker 2: work in progressions who who would be a pocket passer
- 5:31Speaker 2: for somebody if they wanted him to be. But he's
- 5:34Speaker 2: really really making defenses pay for mistakes and coverage. He's
- 5:41Speaker 2: finding them quickly, quick slants, the two tight ends. Teams
- 5:47Speaker 2: haven't really figured out. They're not the traditional three wide
- 5:51Speaker 2: offense you see from everybody now. They do it with
- 5:55Speaker 2: two tight ends, something I've you know, I've said on
- 5:58Speaker 2: your Guys' show. I thought the Broncos should have and
- 6:00Speaker 2: doing for years. But they used the two, their two
- 6:04Speaker 2: tight ends lively and and you know they use those two. Yeah,
- 6:10Speaker 2: they're all over the formation. And he is just killing
- 6:14Speaker 2: defenses with those two coming on the quick slants, the crossers,
- 6:20Speaker 2: and they turn them into big plays.
- 6:22Speaker 3: You know what, it's always a physical game in Baltimore.
- 6:25Speaker 3: We saw throck Morton, Calvin Throckmorton's now up on the roster.
- 6:28Speaker 3: What's the health of this offensive line.
- 6:31Speaker 2: You know, I think rock Morton is they they were
- 6:33Speaker 2: out of elevations for him, and they want him around
- 6:37Speaker 2: because Wattenberg is still, you know, coming back from his
- 6:42Speaker 2: injury and they don't really have a backup center without him,
- 6:46Speaker 2: So he was out of elevation, so they had to
- 6:48Speaker 2: decide what to do. So Burton still has elevations left
- 6:54Speaker 2: from the practice squad, so I would expect him to
- 6:57Speaker 2: be signed pretty quickly because he doesn't have to go
- 7:00Speaker 2: through waivers because it's before the trade deadline and he's
- 7:03Speaker 2: a vested player. So I would expect him to be
- 7:07Speaker 2: signed in the practice squad and elevated for the game.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Jeff Legwold, ESPN Leggie. Obviously, the struggles of the Baltimore
- 7:15Speaker 1: secondary are although they're getting healthier out there. Marlon Humphrey
- 7:18Speaker 1: and Nate Wiggins are expected to be able to play
- 7:21Speaker 1: coming up here on Sunday. But when we're looking for
- 7:25Speaker 1: ways that Denver can win this game and not just
- 7:27Speaker 1: turn over luck or anything else like that, I mean
- 7:30Speaker 1: show up and go toe to toe and win this
- 7:34Speaker 1: game on the road on Baltimore. What does that game
- 7:38Speaker 1: look like to you?
- 7:40Speaker 2: Well, the Ravens have had three defensive linemen on the
- 7:43Speaker 2: injury report this week, So I think the a good
- 7:47Speaker 2: recipe for the Broncos is to run it well enough
- 7:50Speaker 2: where play action becomes something that can work for you.
- 7:54Speaker 2: And they've the last three games, they've been very proficient
- 7:58Speaker 2: in play action. I think it's sort of a concession
- 8:01Speaker 2: on Sean Payton's park to do something a little different
- 8:04Speaker 2: than he's done over the years, and I think they
- 8:09Speaker 2: if they're willing to do that, and then you know,
- 8:13Speaker 2: you hit those big plays when you have a chance.
- 8:16Speaker 2: I think that's the recipe. But you know, it's been
- 8:20Speaker 2: sort of analytically proven that play action works pretty well
- 8:23Speaker 2: even if you're not running the ball well. But if
- 8:26Speaker 2: they can get enough going to really make the put
- 8:31Speaker 2: stress on the on the Ravens linebackers and get them
- 8:35Speaker 2: toward the line of scrimmage even a yard or two,
- 8:38Speaker 2: that even opens up things against the secondary that hasn't
- 8:41Speaker 2: always shown, they can close it off and I think
- 8:45Speaker 2: they will go after. Like I said, Eddie Jackson, the
- 8:48Speaker 2: other raven safety, I think we'll have a busy day, all.
- 8:52Speaker 3: Right, Let's have a little fun. Let's lighten the mood.
- 8:55Speaker 3: Their leg, it's a Friday, it's a sky Friday. You know,
- 8:58Speaker 3: once upon a time, your buddy John l Wait kind
- 9:00Speaker 3: of had a freak out because he got tired of
- 9:02Speaker 3: people trying to sneak around and figure out what kind
- 9:03Speaker 3: of Halloween candy he gave out. You ever done one
- 9:06Speaker 3: of those stories? You ever tried to figure out what
- 9:08Speaker 3: the Calloween candy a choice was by a given player.
- 9:10Speaker 3: Do you know what bo Nicks gave out last night?
- 9:13Speaker 2: You know, I do not know if he actually gave
- 9:16Speaker 2: any candy out last night. You know, I'm not sure.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Are the kids allowed to go in the gated community
- 9:22Speaker 1: to go see a lot of.
- 9:23Speaker 3: Kids try to get into the gated community.
- 9:26Speaker 2: That's a longer driveway to go up.
- 9:29Speaker 1: You know.
- 9:29Speaker 2: You know when I was a kid, we just went
- 9:31Speaker 2: to the row houses. You know, it was easy. You know,
- 9:34Speaker 2: he could hit them all in a hurry. So but uh, yeah,
- 9:38Speaker 2: I would often just ask guys what they gave out.
- 9:42Speaker 2: I've done that story for sure.
- 9:44Speaker 3: What's the most interesting answer guy's given you? Has anyone
- 9:48Speaker 3: ever said anything other than candy? Did anyone go and
- 9:51Speaker 3: give a couple of dollars out or something?
- 9:53Speaker 1: Or a nice HOGI?
- 9:54Speaker 3: Yeah, Hogy.
- 9:56Speaker 2: I did have guys tell me they were they miscalculated
- 10:00Speaker 2: and they ran out of candy, so they like gave
- 10:02Speaker 2: out coins, you know, for the rest of.
- 10:05Speaker 3: The coins and gold to balloons taking that commercial every
- 10:08Speaker 3: What kind of coins are we talking about?
- 10:11Speaker 2: No, Kruger rams, I have no idea.
- 10:13Speaker 3: What a flat pennies?
- 10:16Speaker 2: Yeah, railroad track pennies flatt.
- 10:19Speaker 1: I got a gross in my tops card right here.
- 10:22Speaker 1: You want a few of these kids come out.
- 10:25Speaker 3: He's a twenty with the rookie, the rock Morton. Here,
- 10:29Speaker 3: here's my card.
- 10:32Speaker 2: Yeah. Back when they would pose them like in the
- 10:35Speaker 2: throwing motion or jumping over a hurdle or something.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Hell yeah, that's what we're talking about, all right. Jeff
- 10:40Speaker 1: Legwald everybody ESPN. He joins us every Friday. Jeff Lagwald
- 10:45Speaker 1: brought to you by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers
- 10:48Speaker 1: ib e W Local sixty eight. You start with the job,
- 10:50Speaker 1: you end with the career. Jeff, have a wonderful trip
- 10:53Speaker 1: to to lovely Maryland and enjoy what is supposed to
- 10:56Speaker 1: be a slightly unseasonably warm day out there. Looking at
- 10:59Speaker 1: it about sixty degrees, so good conditions for the Broncos
- 11:03Speaker 1: to pull an up set.
- 11:04Speaker 2: But you know, I think they'll take a sixty degree
- 11:08Speaker 2: day there anytime you can get one.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Seriously, Yeah, it should be a good one. Jeff Legwall
