- 0:00Speaker 1: Eighth, seven thirteen ten WIBA and ask the experts. Hanging
- 0:04Speaker 1: out this morning with Andrew Larson. Of course, Andrew comes
- 0:07Speaker 1: to us from Larsen Home Services. The website Larsenhomesservices dot com.
- 0:11Speaker 1: That's l A. Rso N Home Services dot com. They're
- 0:16Speaker 1: telephone number six oh eight five three five forty three
- 0:19Speaker 1: forty three. That's five three, five forty three forty three. Andrew,
- 0:23Speaker 1: how you doing this week?
- 0:25Speaker 2: I'm doing fantastic yourself.
- 0:27Speaker 1: I'm doing great. I don't want to bring politics into
- 0:29Speaker 1: the program because that's not the type of show that
- 0:31Speaker 1: we do, but I will mention. One of the major
- 0:34Speaker 1: candidates part of a political party running for president was
- 0:38Speaker 1: asked about gutters recently, of all things, and kind of
- 0:42Speaker 1: went on a little bit of a rant about gutters,
- 0:44Speaker 1: and he said, try not to be judgmental on people,
- 0:46Speaker 1: but when I see a well tended gutter, it says
- 0:49Speaker 1: a lot about somebody. And that is a direct quote.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Well, so that, yeah, that person, whoever they are, just
- 0:58Speaker 2: might have got my vote.
- 1:01Speaker 1: He's cornering the gutter industry. Gutters are massively important, and
- 1:07Speaker 1: I know that any homeowner that's experienced, you know, basement
- 1:10Speaker 1: flooding or other issues with their gutters. Know right away
- 1:14Speaker 1: how important they are. Folks that that maybe looking at
- 1:18Speaker 1: their house now going oh, I don't like the way
- 1:20Speaker 1: they look. I don't like the way they perform Gutter
- 1:23Speaker 1: shutter larsenal services. You guys, can you guys can help
- 1:27Speaker 1: people address those issues pretty significantly, can't you.
- 1:32Speaker 2: I love well tended gutters. Yeah, it's like one of
- 1:36Speaker 2: my favorite things. Yes, last week I was out in
- 1:41Speaker 2: we just took like a little end of the summer.
- 1:44Speaker 2: Vaca wasn't going to do it, but you know, kids
- 1:48Speaker 2: start getting older. My daughter's going to be in high school.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Into my head, I'm like, you know, there's not that
- 1:54Speaker 2: many summers left where she's going back to school here
- 1:57Speaker 2: in the town we live in. So anyway, I'm starting
- 2:00Speaker 2: to get a little sentimental in my old age. But
- 2:03Speaker 2: we went out to South Carolina, and of course wherever
- 2:06Speaker 2: I go, place called Hilton Head on the ocean. Beautiful place.
- 2:09Speaker 2: If you've never been to South Carolina, it's beautiful. It's
- 2:14Speaker 2: very green and wooded and they've got oceans and the
- 2:18Speaker 2: alligators and it's pretty cool. But anyway, you know what
- 2:22Speaker 2: I look at, I look at roofs, and I look
- 2:25Speaker 2: at gutters, and the only thing I could think of
- 2:28Speaker 2: while I was there was, man, they could use a
- 2:31Speaker 2: gutter shutter over here, lots of not well tended gutters
- 2:36Speaker 2: on homes that most people could never afford on the ocean,
- 2:43Speaker 2: like incredibly beautiful homes with the worst looking gutters clogg up, mossy,
- 2:51Speaker 2: mildew just look like trash. And sorry I judge people's gutters,
- 2:57Speaker 2: but it's been kind of ingrained into my head, but
- 3:00Speaker 2: it's very true. Like a gutter is a trim piece
- 3:03Speaker 2: on the front of your home. So while it functions
- 3:06Speaker 2: as something that every home needs, especially where we live
- 3:09Speaker 2: because we have basements. We have basements because it freezes
- 3:13Speaker 2: here and we need water pipes to not freeze in
- 3:16Speaker 2: the winter. We have to keep water out of the basement.
- 3:19Speaker 2: So gutters are very functional. They need to function and
- 3:22Speaker 2: get water away from the home. It's also something that
- 3:26Speaker 2: sticks out. I mean it is across all the trim
- 3:29Speaker 2: on the top of your home. And if they are
- 3:31Speaker 2: dirty and they are overflowing and they are growing stuff,
- 3:35Speaker 2: it doesn't look good. No, it doesn't look good. And
- 3:38Speaker 2: our gutters do look beautiful. They look like trim. I
- 3:42Speaker 2: say it all the time.
- 3:44Speaker 1: It's interesting too when you mentioned things growing in gutters.
- 3:48Speaker 1: That is to me that how long have we been
- 3:53Speaker 1: hanging out? A decade? It's got to be And I
- 3:56Speaker 1: remember starting to talk with you and getting cueued in
- 4:01Speaker 1: on looking because it's contagious. Andrew, once you start learning
- 4:05Speaker 1: about roofs and gutters, you start doing it yourself. And
- 4:08Speaker 1: I was shocked when I started to notice how many
- 4:12Speaker 1: people had little trees or just stuff growing out of
- 4:16Speaker 1: the gun like that is that is negligence. What are
- 4:20Speaker 1: you doing there? Let's talk about how how these issues
- 4:23Speaker 1: are solved and how you know how you can help
- 4:26Speaker 1: at large SNOM services for folks that are saying, you
- 4:29Speaker 1: know what. And the other thing too, by the way,
- 4:31Speaker 1: this candidate pointed out was the danger of cleaning gutters
- 4:35Speaker 1: and there that is, you know, there's the practical and
- 4:37Speaker 1: then there's the realistic one, which is safety staying off
- 4:41Speaker 1: a ladder. He was pointing out the dangers of that.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Let's talk about how Lars Storm services can help folks
- 4:47Speaker 1: with that problem not have to deal.
- 4:48Speaker 2: With that problem. You talk about the danger part, and
- 4:50Speaker 2: I used to talk about it a lot, but I
- 4:52Speaker 2: think some people thought like that I'm making stuff up.
- 4:56Speaker 2: But through my we'll call it a gutter career. From
- 5:00Speaker 2: the time I was nineteen, as a gutter installer to
- 5:03Speaker 2: a salesperson, to a sales manager, owning my own company,
- 5:07Speaker 2: I've met numerous people that unfortunately had family members that
- 5:11Speaker 2: pass away cleaning out their gutters. It takes one little slip,
- 5:15Speaker 2: one little fall. A lot of people think they can
- 5:17Speaker 2: get up on the roof, walk around the roof, lean
- 5:19Speaker 2: over and clean the gutters out. And what typically happens
- 5:24Speaker 2: is it's the low houses. It's the first story runs
- 5:27Speaker 2: because people are less careful. When you're on second story,
- 5:30Speaker 2: you're real careful. Right, Probably about seven eight years ago,
- 5:35Speaker 2: I was at a gentleman's house and he had just retired,
- 5:39Speaker 2: and he was so excited to retire. He had three
- 5:42Speaker 2: golf memberships and he was just going to golf his
- 5:44Speaker 2: retirement away. Unfortunately, he decided to go out and clean
- 5:48Speaker 2: his gutters in November, and the ground was frozen and
- 5:54Speaker 2: his roof was a little slippery, and he leaned over
- 5:56Speaker 2: on that first story and he fell off, and he
- 5:57Speaker 2: smashed both his heels and messed his backup. He couldn't
- 6:00Speaker 2: golf anymore like hearing stories like that, we keep people
- 6:04Speaker 2: off the ladder. That's what we do. It looks beautiful,
- 6:09Speaker 2: it functions. When I say function, I mean it don't
- 6:12Speaker 2: matter how hard it rains. This gutter can handle all
- 6:15Speaker 2: of it. And it truly does. We used to make
- 6:18Speaker 2: the joke like we're saving lead of saving lives one
- 6:21Speaker 2: house at a time, but it's honestly not that far fetched.
- 6:27Speaker 2: When I had my knee, I had my knee busted
- 6:30Speaker 2: up a few years ago and I went to the
- 6:31Speaker 2: doctor and he was like, what do you do? And
- 6:33Speaker 2: I told him who I was, and he was like,
- 6:34Speaker 2: I listened to you on the radio, so kudos. Listen
- 6:37Speaker 2: to the radio show. And he said, I should be
- 6:39Speaker 2: on your radio show because I make a living off
- 6:41Speaker 2: of ladder falls. He fixed knees, and he fixed wrists
- 6:45Speaker 2: and shoulders, and he said during hunting season and during
- 6:49Speaker 2: the fall with cleaning out gutters, he said, the amount
- 6:52Speaker 2: of falls and breaks that I take care of, that's
- 6:55Speaker 2: how I make a living. Was people falling off of ladders?
- 6:57Speaker 2: He said, unfortunately. He said, he got rid of all
- 7:01Speaker 2: his ladders. He won't even get on them. He will
- 7:03Speaker 2: call a professional because of that. So they function. They
- 7:07Speaker 2: look beautiful and they do. They keep you off the ladder,
- 7:10Speaker 2: they keep you safe.
- 7:11Speaker 1: And one of the things I know you pointed out
- 7:12Speaker 1: in the past a lot of us, obviously Packer fans
- 7:15Speaker 1: here in Wisconsin remember Max McGee, packer as well as
- 7:19Speaker 1: as well as broadcaster of the pack football games, tragically
- 7:22Speaker 1: passed away a few years ago cleaning his gutters. And
- 7:27Speaker 1: that's I mean for folks that it is Darren serious.
- 7:30Speaker 1: And I think I think one of the important things
- 7:32Speaker 1: Andrew is we talked talk to you about this stuff
- 7:34Speaker 1: is it is there is that there is that beauty,
- 7:37Speaker 1: there is that you know, having the you know when
- 7:38Speaker 1: it comes to gutter shutter and having having them put
- 7:41Speaker 1: on your home. They look great, but the practicality is
- 7:43Speaker 1: and and talk about saving lives and injuries and other things.
- 7:46Speaker 1: It is real world stuff. It is dangerous and that's
- 7:48Speaker 1: why it's so important as we talk with Andrew today,
- 7:51Speaker 1: if you if you've had claude gutters, had questions about them,
- 7:54Speaker 1: if you were a significant other, it's been up on
- 7:56Speaker 1: the ladder and you're concerned, it's an important day to
- 7:59Speaker 1: make that call. Six five three five forty three forty three.
- 8:02Speaker 1: That's five three five four three four three for Larsen
- 8:05Speaker 1: Home Services. The website Larsenhome Services dot com. That's l
- 8:09Speaker 1: A R s o N Home Services dot com. Have
- 8:13Speaker 1: the folks from our Stolom services come out take a
- 8:15Speaker 1: look at your house, and Andrew. The other surprising thing
- 8:17Speaker 1: about this is something I've learned from you also over
- 8:20Speaker 1: the years, is my original impression was older homes need gutters,
- 8:24Speaker 1: which is which is often true. But there's even new houses,
- 8:28Speaker 1: people that have just bought their house that the builders
- 8:31Speaker 1: and I get it, they're just putting gutters on. They're
- 8:34Speaker 1: going house to house to house or do do do?
- 8:35Speaker 1: They're not getting the best and not getting the greatest.
- 8:37Speaker 1: They're just putting a gutter on because that's what you do.
- 8:40Speaker 1: And people with new homes are discovering, and I know
- 8:42Speaker 1: a lot of folks are calling you at lur Stoom
- 8:44Speaker 1: Services saying we want to deal with this issue. It's
- 8:46Speaker 1: not just an old home problem. It's a new home
- 8:49Speaker 1: problem as well.
- 8:49Speaker 2: Isn't it. Ah very much so. And I know I've
- 8:52Speaker 2: talked about this before, but we will sell gutters shout
- 8:55Speaker 2: at to homeowners on newer homes and they'll say, why
- 8:58Speaker 2: didn't they why don't they just put these on them?
- 9:00Speaker 2: The get go well, and it's it's simple. They're not cheap. Okay,
- 9:05Speaker 2: regular open gutters that come on a brand new home,
- 9:08Speaker 2: those are cheap. Those are very cheap. Gutter shutter is
- 9:11Speaker 2: not cheap. And when you're building a home, if anybody's
- 9:14Speaker 2: built a home recently, like I mean, it's crazy expensive
- 9:17Speaker 2: to build a home, and you're gonna pick nicer finishes
- 9:21Speaker 2: on the interior of your home all day, every day
- 9:24Speaker 2: before you put excuse me, premium gutters on your home.
- 9:29Speaker 2: That's just the way it is. The only new homes
- 9:31Speaker 2: that we typically put gutter shutter on are past customers
- 9:34Speaker 2: because they realize how important it is and they know
- 9:37Speaker 2: that they're not getting up there and cleaning those things out.
- 9:41Speaker 2: So yes, we've tried to work with builders before. Unfortunately,
- 9:45Speaker 2: budgets are usually too tight when when a new home
- 9:48Speaker 2: is being built, and it's just it's just usually not
- 9:51Speaker 2: in the budget unless the homeowner specifically says this is
- 9:54Speaker 2: what I want, I'm not cleaning these gutters out. Not
- 9:57Speaker 2: happening otherwise, just some really cheap, thin, inexpensive gutters get
- 10:02Speaker 2: thrown on the house when they do the siding and
- 10:04Speaker 2: the soften infatia, and that's that's just the way it is,
- 10:08Speaker 2: and that's unfortunate.
- 10:09Speaker 1: And the trouble with that is it does I mean,
- 10:12Speaker 1: I know, larst Home Services, you guys work to recycle
- 10:15Speaker 1: and those kind of things. But ultimately the best solution
- 10:18Speaker 1: is get gut. If you're if you are building, talk
- 10:20Speaker 1: about larstom Services and gutter shutter. If you have a
- 10:23Speaker 1: new house, older house, you've got questions about your gutter,
- 10:25Speaker 1: it's important day to give them a call it Larsen
- 10:27Speaker 1: Home Services. Have them come out, give you an assessment,
- 10:29Speaker 1: take a look. All you gotta do is pick up phone,
- 10:30Speaker 1: give them a call. Six oh eight five three five
- 10:33Speaker 1: forty three forty three. That's five three five four three
