- 0:00Aloha. Friday morning in Hawaiʻi. A high surf advisory is in effect through tonight on south and leeward shores—if you're heading to Waikīkī or south Maui today, stick to protected beaches.
- 1:40Trade winds are steady and typical through the weekend. You'll see quick-moving showers on windward slopes and higher elevations, but leeward sides stay mostly dry. South shores have elevated surf today and again Saturday and Sunday as swells decline from recent peaks. East-facing shores will have larger surf arriving Sunday into midweek as a weakening system approaches. If you're planning outdoor activities, Friday through Monday is your best window.
- 2:02Surf is running moderate on Oʻahu's south shore at 5.5 feet and north shore at 4.9 feet—watch for shore break and rip currents if you're getting in. Kauaʻi is at 5.9 feet. The Big Island's calm at 1.6 feet if you want a gentler swim day.
- 2:14Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park is open, but several trails and roads remain closed for maintenance and hazard clearing—the Lava Tube Bridge, Kīpukapuaulu Trail, and Kahuku Unit Roads are all off-limits. The park is at a yellow alert level for volcanic activity, so protect yourself from volcanic ash if you're exploring. Check ahead before you head out.
- 2:32Our new piece on Hawaii farm stays walks you through sleeping on working coffee farms and ranches across the islands—where to find them, what to expect, and how to book. It's a solid option if you're looking to slow down and go deeper than the typical resort experience.
- 2:46Save windward hikes and exposed areas for after midweek when conditions settle. Stick to leeward beaches and north shores this weekend if you want calm water.
- 2:53The farm stay guide is on the site. Catch you tomorrow.
