- 0:22Welcome to the Finally Get Pregnant Naturally podcast, the podcast helping women identify the real reasons you haven't conceived or stayed pregnant so you and your partner can finally grow the family of your dreams.
- 0:35I'm your host, Dr.
- 0:37Katie Wood.
- 0:38Let's dive in, shall we?
- 0:40Katie: Three things you'll gain on today's episode.
- 0:43Katie: Why learning to read your cycle can sometimes accidentally make your fertility anxiety worse, and how to prevent that from happening.
- 0:52Katie: The difference between observing your cycle as data and obsessing over it as a threat.
- 0:59Katie: And a three-minute fertility prescription to check in with your cycle calmly, receive what it's telling you, and move forward without the spiral.
- 1:09Katie: So let's talk about what's the problem with paying attention to your cycle and tracking your cycle, right?
- 1:16Katie: There's so many different things to track.
- 1:19Katie: There's so many different ways to track And I have had clients come in totally on the spectrum of they're just using a cycle tracking app to just using LH strips all the way to tracking their BBT, tracking on
- 1:35Katie: a, like, a hormone fertility tracker like Inito or Mira, and all the things in between.
- 1:41Katie: So on Tuesday's episode, number 261, we talked about how reading your cycle as a monthly fertility report card, the clues that have been there all along that you were never taught to actually understand and notice.
- 1:58Katie: And here's the thing about teaching yourself to notice more.
- 2:02Katie: Your brain will immediately try to do something with what it finds, right?
- 2:07Katie: Especially as a high-achieving woman.
- 2:09Katie: We have the urge and the instinct to automatically feel like you need to fix something.
- 2:16Katie: That's a gift, and the risk of being someone who likes to problem solve.
- 2:22Katie: You spot a clue, brown spotting, a shorter cycle, minimal cervical mucus, and within seconds your nervous system has filed it under a threat without you even consciously realizing that that is what is happening underneath.
- 2:40Katie: Your mind starts researching, cross-referencing, ruminating in the worst case scenario, right?
- 2:48Katie: What does this mean for this month?
- 2:50Katie: Is this why it hasn't worked?
- 2:52Katie: What does this say about my chances of getting pregnant?
- 2:55Katie: The very awareness that was supposed to help you and inform you now becomes another source of anxiety.
- 3:05Katie: And please, like, let me know if this resonates with you because I feel like this is just such a huge part of the fertility journey and a huge weight that we carry as women, especially high-achieving women.
- 3:19Katie: There's a difference between receiving this information and bracing against it.
- 3:28Katie: One is in the parasympathetic mode and one is in the sympathetic mode, and your nervous system responds differently to each.
- 3:38Katie: And only one of them truly supports the hormonal environment you are trying to create, and that's the parasympathetic mode.
- 3:46Katie: So today's practice is how you interpret the signals without allowing the spiral to creep in, okay?
- 3:56Katie: So your weekly fertility prescription is the fear to fact download.
- 4:03Katie: So this week Anytime a cycle sign triggers anxiety for you, a symptom, a pattern, Something you notice that your brain immediately starts running with, do this.
- 4:17Katie: It takes under three minutes, and you can do it absolutely anywhere.
- 4:20Katie: You could write it down on an old piece of mail, or just a scrap piece of paper, or on, like, the Notes app in your phone.
- 4:30Katie: So I want you to write down the fear thought exactly as it showed up.
- 4:35Katie: I don't want you to edit it.
- 4:36Katie: I don't want you to clean it up or try to make it sound more rational.
- 4:40Katie: I want you to write down what your brain actually said.
- 4:43Katie: So this could look like, "This spotting means it didn't work.
- 4:48Katie: This spotting means I can't get pregnant this cycle."
- 4:52Katie: Or maybe even, "This spotting means I'll never get pregnant," or, "My cycle is too short.
- 4:58Katie: I will never be able to implant."
- 5:01Katie: Let it be on the page, on your Notes app, instead of running a loop in your head, right?
- 5:07Katie: Don't allow it to take up space and rent in your head.
- 5:12Katie: Then can write a line down the middle if you want, but right next to it write the actual observable fact, not the meaning, not the story, just what is true, sticking to the facts here.
- 5:28Katie: This could look like, "Spotting before my period is a progesterone signal.
- 5:34Katie: My luteal phase is shorter than optimal, and that's something I am working towards."
- 5:41Katie: My cycle showed me something worth paying attention to, or my cycle showed me something worth investigating more.
- 5:50Katie: So two columns, the fear and the fact.
- 5:53Katie: If you have more than one, then write them all down, right?
- 5:56Katie: All the fears down, and you want one fact per fear.
- 6:00Katie: That's the whole practice.
- 6:02Katie: And what this does is it discharges, it neutralizes the anxiety by naming it, and your brain calms down when the thought is external rather than internal.
- 6:14Katie: And it replaces the catastrophic interpretation with a root cause framing that your nervous system can actually work with.
- 6:23Katie: And you're not minimizing what you noticed, you're just refusing to let the spiral be the reaction to it.
- 6:31Katie: So do this every time the anxiety comes through this week or in the future for all of your cycles.
- 6:37Katie: Repetition is key.
- 6:39Katie: And what you are building is the ability to receive what your cycle is telling you without your mind creating stories about what it means and pushing your nervous system further away from your fertility goals.
- 6:54Katie: So if you are listening to this episode and you're still not pregnant, or you can't stay pregnant, and you've been told that everything looks normal or that you're running out of options, I need you to hear this.

- 8:19Katie: So you have two columns.
- 8:21Katie: Every time the spiral starts this week, your cycle is not the enemy, it is just the messenger, and you are learning to hear it out without letting fear write the interpretation or the story.
