- 0:00Speaker 1: Come for the sound fridge, stay for the lazy dumbasses.
- 0:03Speaker 1: It's one more thing.
- 0:09Speaker 2: Before we get to cleaning out the sound fridgege.
- 0:15Speaker 1: That's right, metal guy, way to be ready.
- 0:17Speaker 3: Before we get to that.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Here's a tease for tomorrow's radio show Fridays, because you
- 0:22Speaker 2: don't know what tomorrow is on a podcast, Friday's Armstrong
- 0:25Speaker 2: and Giddy Radio Show, we'll talk about the California Highway
- 0:27Speaker 2: Patrol's new piece of equipment to try to deal with
- 0:31Speaker 2: it says high speed chases, but then.
- 0:33Speaker 3: It talks about pursuits. I assume every pursuit is in
- 0:37Speaker 3: a high speed chase. Probably most of them are.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Anyway, it's when they flip on the lights behind you
- 0:43Speaker 2: and you don't pull over and have to chase you,
- 0:47Speaker 2: which I've always thoughts insane. I can't imagine ever doing that.
- 0:52Speaker 2: That's gonna make my life. Whatever I've just done, that
- 0:55Speaker 2: they flipped the whole the lights for is gonna get
- 0:59Speaker 2: exponentially worse by me running and I'm not gonna get away.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Yeah, that's the key, because if you're a felon on
- 1:07Speaker 1: probation in possession of drugs, I get you shouldn't, but
- 1:15Speaker 1: I get it.
- 1:17Speaker 2: But you're probably you're not gonna get away most likely, right,
- 1:20Speaker 2: and things are gonna get so bad for you anyway.
- 1:24Speaker 2: How many.
- 1:27Speaker 3: Highway patrol pursuits were there last.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Year thirteen thousand, six hundred and twenty seven, almost teen
- 1:37Speaker 2: thousand times in one year in the state of California.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Did the cops flip on the lights behind somebody.
- 1:43Speaker 3: And they run?
- 1:45Speaker 1: Wow?
- 1:46Speaker 2: I would I would have not guessed even close to that.
- 1:49Speaker 2: I thought it was very very rare.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Big state, many highways. But yeah, damn, that's a lot.
- 1:55Speaker 3: That's crazy.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Anyway, we'll talk about that more on Friday, May eighth.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Armstrong and Giddy show fantastic. All right, so let's clean
- 2:03Speaker 2: out sound fridge for a couple of minutes. Let's see
- 2:06Speaker 2: what do we say we're gonna do?
- 2:07Speaker 1: Ah? Yes, this does this need set up? This is
- 2:09Speaker 1: a Delta passenger at lax Hi.
- 2:14Speaker 4: Delta associates that aren't paying attention, please come to thirty
- 2:21Speaker 4: You have a customer waiting.
- 2:24Speaker 5: Thank you.
- 2:25Speaker 4: Please come and help the customer at thirty feet.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Anybody on on shift literally nobody wants to spot.
- 2:34Speaker 5: That's fine, I'll just keeping the broadcast.
- 2:37Speaker 4: No, sure, the captain just walked away from me and
- 2:42Speaker 4: saying I could go somewhere else.
- 2:45Speaker 6: So does anybody want to help with customer service?
- 2:50Speaker 3: I've certainly felt that way before.
- 2:53Speaker 2: I would be concerned that if I jump on the
- 2:55Speaker 2: mic and say, does anybody work for Delta? You've got
- 2:59Speaker 2: a customer here who paid eighteen hundred dollars to get
- 3:02Speaker 2: to Saint Louis, and can anybody help me?
- 3:06Speaker 3: Anyone?
- 3:07Speaker 2: But I'd be afraid if I jumped on the mic,
- 3:08Speaker 2: that I've violated some post nine to eleven terrorism law
- 3:12Speaker 2: that's gonna put me in Gitmo for twenty years.
- 3:14Speaker 1: I would like to know that, guess I would. I mean,
- 3:18Speaker 1: get Mo looks lovely, very cribbing, but yeah, otherwise, that
- 3:22Speaker 1: guy's a hero. I love that.
- 3:24Speaker 3: Yeah, I agree.
- 3:25Speaker 2: I could certainly see doing that at a home depot
- 3:27Speaker 2: or a Walmart or something.
- 3:29Speaker 3: Oh my god.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Part of the problem is in California anything, every everything's
- 3:33Speaker 2: locked up, so you can't blame the home the Walmart.
- 3:36Speaker 2: I had this situation where couldn't get anybody to come
- 3:39Speaker 2: unlock you know, the hammers or whatever it was, because
- 3:41Speaker 2: every piece of tools. But after like twenty minutes, I
- 3:46Speaker 2: was yelling out loud does anybody want to sell me
- 3:49Speaker 2: a hammer?
- 3:51Speaker 3: Anyone?
- 3:51Speaker 2: I've got money, you've got a hammer. Let's make a deal.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Anybody here want to sell a guy a hammer?
- 3:59Speaker 3: White kids were so embarrassed.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, but well done. Oh that's so frustrating.
- 4:06Speaker 1: All right? Moving along, This is a Catholic priest telling
- 4:10Speaker 1: a story about the new Chicago pope.
- 4:13Speaker 5: Two months in he calls his bank to change his
- 4:16Speaker 5: phone number, and so he gets the lady says, yes, ma'am,
- 4:19Speaker 5: I'm Robert Prevos, I'd like to change. She asks all
- 4:21Speaker 5: the security questions and then it is oh, I'm sorry, sir.
- 4:24Speaker 5: It says here you have to come in person, and
- 4:32Speaker 5: he said, well, that's not going to I'm not going
- 4:34Speaker 5: to be able to do that. Would it matter to
- 4:36Speaker 5: you if I told you I'm Pope Leo? She hung
- 4:40Speaker 5: up on him. Could you imagine being known as the
- 4:45Speaker 5: woman who hung up on the pope?
- 4:48Speaker 2: So I get to be an humble thing, but you
- 4:51Speaker 2: don't have people to handle that for you as the pope.
- 4:55Speaker 3: I would think you have people they can handle that.
- 4:57Speaker 1: I mean, no, no, what bank in America would say, well,
- 5:03Speaker 1: you claim to be representing Jack Armstrong? Okay, we'll change
- 5:07Speaker 1: the data on the account.
- 5:08Speaker 2: There's a chance, Yeah, there is. I do it on
- 5:11Speaker 2: a regular basis because I'm so busy. I've actually had
- 5:13Speaker 2: to hire people.
- 5:14Speaker 1: To do this sort of stuff. When they let them
- 5:16Speaker 1: do it, you.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Got to give them all your passwords and access and
- 5:19Speaker 2: all this sort of stuff.
- 5:20Speaker 1: But that's funny because I mean, like Judy and I
- 5:23Speaker 1: have various things even I connected to the work benefits
- 5:28Speaker 1: and whatever or trips we've booked together, that they won't
- 5:31Speaker 1: let her do anything really, even though she's my freaking wife.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Yeah wow, Wow, And.
- 5:38Speaker 3: You get on the phone and say, she's my freaking wife.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Yes, what's the matter with you? Jackasses? Yeah? Yeah, interesting,
- 5:45Speaker 1: I would not have guessed that. Yeah, the Pope's gotta
- 5:47Speaker 1: have minions. How about those guys in a fancy guard uniform.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Put down your gigantic acts. What are you gonna use
- 5:54Speaker 1: that for anyway? And call my bank for me? I'm
- 5:57Speaker 1: the Pope. Forget about it all right, Michael fourteen. The
- 6:04Speaker 1: baseball thing, does it need any setup?
- 6:07Speaker 6: There is a term called dry humping, and.
- 6:10Speaker 1: I'm familiar with it, okay in baseball.
- 6:13Speaker 2: In baseball, there's a high school couple dry humping out
- 6:16Speaker 2: on the outfield.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Different, different thing.
- 6:19Speaker 6: This is a Florida Marlins pitcher explaining what happens.
- 6:23Speaker 7: The dry hump is win. As a reliever, they call down.
- 6:25Speaker 7: You start warm enough. Obviously there's degrees of it. The
- 6:28Speaker 7: worst dry humps are the ones to which you then
- 6:31Speaker 7: have to fire it off and be as warm as
- 6:33Speaker 7: you would be to go in a game with no
- 6:36Speaker 7: guarantee that you go in a game, and if you
- 6:38Speaker 7: then say your team does not score a run, you
- 6:40Speaker 7: sit back down and you have been dry humped. Well,
- 6:42Speaker 7: one dry hump usually is okay. Two dry humps does
- 6:45Speaker 7: not feel very good. I think in my career I've
- 6:48Speaker 7: been dry humped three times once and I felt like
- 6:51Speaker 7: I couldn't move my arm for about eight hours.
- 6:57Speaker 1: You know, it's a pretty good metaphor.
- 7:02Speaker 3: Ballpark. Got a couple up there, looks like they're.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Us, appeared to be in love and dry jumping.
- 7:08Speaker 1: Good night for the gentleman. Not going to be terribly
- 7:11Speaker 1: satisfying for the gentleman ultimately, Jim anyway, Oh and two, but.
- 7:15Speaker 3: Better than nothing, wouldn't you say, Steve? Would you better
- 7:19Speaker 3: than nothing?
- 7:21Speaker 1: Geddy get loose? All right?
- 7:23Speaker 3: All right?
- 7:23Speaker 1: Yes, yes, and five minutes later, sit down. They don't
- 7:27Speaker 1: need you. Yeah, very very frustrating. You know, that was actually,
- 7:34Speaker 1: like I said, a very good metaphor. Baseball has a
- 7:37Speaker 1: number of U slang terms within it which could be
- 7:42Speaker 1: seen by some sensitive listeners as sexist, because you get
- 7:47Speaker 1: a bunch of dudes who travel around with each other
- 7:49Speaker 1: and and and you know, wise crack and you know,
- 7:53Speaker 1: a whole locker room thing on steroids. You do it
- 7:55Speaker 1: for a living. So that was not as bad as
- 7:57Speaker 1: I thought it might be. I'm like a slumpbuster, as
- 8:02Speaker 1: the great Mark Brace once explained, No google it. I'm
- 8:05Speaker 1: not gonna tell you. It's course and hurtful toward women
- 8:11Speaker 1: who are willing to get with a ball player for
- 8:14Speaker 1: a brief encounter I do not approve of. But again,
- 8:19Speaker 1: if you want to google it, google it all right. So,
- 8:23Speaker 1: were you gonna head over to the I don't like
- 8:25Speaker 1: to work for him? Oh?
- 8:27Speaker 3: No, tomorrow, am you?
- 8:28Speaker 1: Oh that's tomorrow? Yeah?
- 8:30Speaker 2: Oh, something to looking forward since we're cleaning out the
- 8:32Speaker 2: zund fridge.
- 8:32Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 8:34Speaker 1: Is it clipper done? Okay, that's it. There's just those
- 8:37Speaker 1: three things.
- 8:39Speaker 3: Back to the high speed chase thing.
- 8:41Speaker 2: Briefly, the fact that fourteen thousand people run from the
- 8:44Speaker 2: cops every year just in California.
- 8:46Speaker 3: I find that extraordinary.
- 8:48Speaker 1: So that means I know nothing about this. But in
- 8:51Speaker 1: the back of my mind I'm wondering, is if you
- 8:55Speaker 1: flip on your lights and you floor it from the
- 8:59Speaker 1: median or whatever, and you go after somebody and as
- 9:03Speaker 1: soon as they are where you want them, they pull over,
- 9:08Speaker 1: even though it took a couple of miles or whatever.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Is that a quote unquote pursuit? Good question. I don't know.
- 9:14Speaker 1: Are they all chases exactly or I don't know because
- 9:17Speaker 1: that number strikes me as very very high.
- 9:21Speaker 3: You're right, that's a good question.
- 9:26Speaker 2: All I know is that they've got a new piece
- 9:28Speaker 2: of equipment that they would only matter in a pursuit
- 9:33Speaker 2: where somebody's running. They've come up with this like contraption
- 9:39Speaker 2: that is mounted on the front of highway patrol vehicles
- 9:42Speaker 2: and then you can shoot it out like you're James
- 9:45Speaker 2: Bond or something like that, and its go around the
- 9:47Speaker 2: back wheels of the car like you're Batman, and then
- 9:50Speaker 2: you like drag it to a stop.
- 9:52Speaker 3: Oh sounds very dangerous to me.
- 9:54Speaker 2: But according to this article in the Only Times you
- 9:57Speaker 2: got to be within five feet, and that seems really
- 10:00Speaker 2: unrealistic to me. Hmmm, that you could, without risking lots
- 10:03Speaker 2: of people's lives, be within five feet of the car
- 10:06Speaker 2: in front of you to enact this piece of machinery.
- 10:09Speaker 1: Yeah, a lot of high speed chases are pretty nascary.
- 10:13Speaker 1: You know what I saw? It was funny. It's connected
- 10:14Speaker 1: to when I was ranting about feeding me a chase
- 10:18Speaker 1: video that has no resolution. I sat there watching it
- 10:21Speaker 1: for five minutes and at the end they're just still chasing.
- 10:23Speaker 1: The guy was so pissed off. What was interesting was
- 10:28Speaker 1: when they were talking to the vagabond who ran from
- 10:33Speaker 1: the cops, and they the cops know, all right, this
- 10:35Speaker 1: guy could be a runner, uncooperative, weird excuses, you know,
- 10:40Speaker 1: blah blah blah, he's gonna take take a run for
- 10:43Speaker 1: One of the cops gently, unbeknownst to the scumbag, nudged
- 10:47Speaker 1: a device called the wrecker, the killer, the tire effor upper,
- 10:54Speaker 1: I can't remember, but he nudged this device under the
- 10:57Speaker 1: car as they were talking to him, and sure enough,
- 10:59Speaker 1: the I took off and immediately had a flat tire.
- 11:02Speaker 3: Oh that's an interesting like the spike.
- 11:04Speaker 1: Strips that they lay out during a chase. But like
- 11:07Speaker 1: a preemptive spike strip.
- 11:10Speaker 2: You're a particularly dumb person if you run at that point.
- 11:13Speaker 2: So I think running is moronic to start with. But
- 11:17Speaker 2: at least he got the chance of getting away, combined
- 11:20Speaker 2: with the chance of wasn't me in that car combined whatever.
- 11:24Speaker 2: But if you're sitting there and they get a good
- 11:26Speaker 2: look at you and everything like that and then you're
- 11:27Speaker 2: gonna run, well, here a certain kind of moron anyway.
- 11:30Speaker 2: Of the fourteen thousand pursuits, and we don't have a
- 11:33Speaker 2: definition on that yet, twenty six hundred resulted in a crash.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Two six hundred crashes because of a highway patrol pursuit
- 11:41Speaker 2: in California. That's way too many because anytime there's a
- 11:43Speaker 2: crash that could have been you know, me and my
- 11:46Speaker 2: kids in the car or something like that. We got
- 11:48Speaker 2: to treat those running from the cops like you went
- 11:51Speaker 2: into a mall started firing off shots with a gun,
- 11:53Speaker 2: because you got a deadly weapon you're slinging around.
- 11:57Speaker 1: I'm with you absolutely where that's.
- 11:58Speaker 3: Got to be very high.
- 12:00Speaker 1: And for what it's worth, that figure makes me think
- 12:02Speaker 1: the original figures actual chases.
- 12:05Speaker 3: Yeah, it makes me think that too.
- 12:06Speaker 1: Yeah, yep.
- 12:08Speaker 3: So here's some slump buster think I got a little
- 12:10Speaker 3: meth in the car. I know I'm gonna do him
- 12:11Speaker 3: run from the cops. That's not a good idea.
- 12:13Speaker 1: I'm not sure you understand the term, but it could fit.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Bing it, bring it, ai It Rockets.
- 12:23Speaker 4: Just saw a YouTube video jack of a police chase
- 12:26Speaker 4: that ended poorly. The guy got out of the car,
- 12:28Speaker 4: started running from the cops, and the police dog was released,
- 12:31Speaker 4: and you can imagine how that went.
- 12:36Speaker 1: With a neck.
- 12:37Speaker 6: Well, I guess that's it.
