- 0:003 lifelong friends, 6 trusty balls and endless NFL takes.
- 0:05Welcome to Three guys 6 Balls NFL podcast.
- 0:08Welcome to Three Guys 6 Balls episode 10.
- 0:10Today we have a special emergency guest on the show.
- 0:14It is Corey from show Victoria Sports.
- 0:16Thanks for filling in for us. Avery wasn't able to make it
- 0:19because of Wi-Fi problems and there was a fire in his house.
- 0:24Will you want to give some details on that?
- 0:27He logs in here to start recording and he's got some
- 0:30serious Internet problems and you'd say, oh, there's big
- 0:32thunderstorms down where he's at and the southern part of
- 0:35America, not South America, but you know, the South.
- 0:39And then he runs upstairs, check his router, comes back
- 0:41downstairs and he says and they quote, it's like somebody's hot
- 0:44boxing my house. And the next thing he knows, the
- 0:47next thing we know he was, oh, that's a fire.
- 0:49And he picks his laptop up, turns the camera and this guy is
- 0:53walking by with a pan on fire. So somebody can't cook is
- 0:57basically the last bit of and then he takes the pan outside
- 1:02and I guess drops it again, bad Wi-Fi, so everything's real
- 1:05choppy. So drops the pan outside and
- 1:07then the flames just go way up. I would assume he dropped a
- 1:10grease fire into a pool of water, which is a terrible idea.
- 1:14That's just awful. And then his Internet cut out so
- 1:18we assume he's still alive. Shout out to Avery.
- 1:21Hope your house doesn't burn down.
- 1:22But good news, it's a rental so not your problem.
- 1:27That's a true story, by the way. That's not made-up.
- 1:29That's 100% true. When the fire when the guy, I I
- 1:33don't know who he was roommate when he walked by with the paint
- 1:35on fire, the the first thing I said is I wish we were
- 1:37recording. Right now so I I send a message
- 1:40in our Instagram chats for sports podcasters and Corey
- 1:44responded and said he could hop on real quick and help us out
- 1:46with today's episode so we appreciate you coming on just to
- 1:50get us started here. Why don't you let everybody know
- 1:53where they can find you on social media and just tell us a
- 1:56little bit about about your podcast because we've been on
- 1:58yours, but you haven't been on ours yet.
- 2:00Yeah, no, again, yeah, thanks for having me emergency
- 2:03situation. So I hope everything's all right
- 2:05on his end. I know about the Wi-Fi problems
- 2:07and I haven't luckily no house on fire.
- 2:09So hopefully it stays that way. But yeah.
- 2:11You can find us on Instagram X TikTok at Shogg sports.
- 2:17I'm just one half. My brother is also a Co host of
- 2:20Shogg sports. We're kind of unique in a sense
- 2:22of I'm a Broncos fan and he's a Chiefs fan.
- 2:25So the rivalry kind of helps with, you know, our show
- 2:30essentially. And luckily we heard that the
- 2:32Chiefs Broncos are playing on Christmas Day this year.
- 2:34So that's going to be fun. So we talked mostly football,
- 2:38but we will talk anything really sports related.
- 2:41So you guys are on our show and we did some draft stuff.
- 2:44So excited to hear what you guys are are about tonight.
- 2:48Cool. Just a quick question.
- 2:49How did that happen? How did one of you become a
- 2:51Broncos fan and one of you become a Chiefs fan?
- 2:53Yeah, so there's a myth out there that says I was a Chiefs
- 2:56man when I was younger. I don't know about this.
- 2:59Maybe there maybe you know what happened.
- 3:02But on our dad's side, my grandparents are actually from
- 3:05Colorado. They kind of, you know, maybe
- 3:08they got me at a young enough age where they talked me into
- 3:11being a Broncos fan. And then obviously my mom's side
- 3:14and everyone else, my friends, they're they're the Chiefs fan.
- 3:17So it was a way of like, I'll be different.
- 3:20I've had good times and I've had bad times the last decade now,
- 3:23so here we are, yeah. I bet you were feeling pretty
- 3:26good when the Broncos won that Super Bowl, huh?
- 3:28Oh man. Well, with as bad as Peyton
- 3:30Manning was that year, you know. The people forget that.
- 3:33That's yeah. And I, I try to remind people
- 3:35that, you know, they they talk about, you know, Peyton Manning
- 3:38and what he was. But if you look back, his career
- 3:40didn't really end very well statistically.
- 3:44You know, he was benched at one point that season for Brock
- 3:46Osweiler. And then and then, you know, we
- 3:49were kind of like, uh oh, there's no way we're going to go
- 3:51to a Super Bowl. But then you're like, OK, this
- 3:53defense, Von Miller, the no fly zone, Chris Harris, Keithley,
- 3:57you know, TJ Ward, a defense. Absolutely.
- 4:00And I'm to this day say that the Broncos defense in the Super
- 4:03Bowl ruined Cam Newton's career, essentially.
- 4:06He wasn't the same after that. Pretty much, yeah.
- 4:09Yeah, so I I'm fairly confident in saying that the Broncos were
- 4:13able to kind of derail what Cam Newton had going for him.
- 4:17I agree. That's 100% true actually.
- 4:20For his statement, honestly I thought about it that way, but.
- 4:22Yeah, you're right. Wasn't it like he didn't like,
- 4:25dive for a fumble or something? Yeah.
- 4:27And then everybody started hating on him.
- 4:29And then after that he just like was never the same.
- 4:31Yeah. I mean, he was literally right
- 4:33there for him just to fall on. But he takes a step back.
- 4:36Like the guy was going to do like, and right there and then,
- 4:39like literally the whole defense is out there just diving on the
- 4:42ball. And he was just like, Nah.
- 4:44And then obviously, I think it was like a couple months ago
- 4:46over here recently, he said that he would not give up his MVP to
- 4:50win that Super Bowl. Like he was OK with just winning
- 4:53an MVP that season. And I'm like.
- 4:55Watching that game, I can definitely, I can see that.
- 4:58So that just goes to show what Cam Newton was about.
- 5:01Well. Thanks for coming on with us
- 5:03today again, Corey, We appreciate it.
- 5:04Thanks for telling us a little bit about your podcast.
- 5:06If you guys aren't following Shovic Sports already on social
- 5:10media, go give them a follow. They have some great content.
- 5:13And today we are going to be talking about some of the NFL
- 5:17remaining free agents, the best remaining NFL free agents and
- 5:21some teams that they may fit with.
- 5:22The draft just happened a couple weeks ago and all 32 teams made
- 5:27multiple selections trying to make their team better both on
- 5:30offense and defense. ESPN and as we talked about in
- 5:32one of our previous episodes, gave every team in the draft
- 5:35their top five draft needs, and only five of those teams filled
- 5:39every single one of those needs in the draft.
- 5:41So there are multiple teams, including the ones who did fill
- 5:45all of their needs, according to ESPN, who still have some holes
- 5:48to fill on their roster. And so there's a lot of good
- 5:51free agents still out there who may fit with some of these
- 5:53teams. So we're going to talk about
- 5:54them and why they may fit. And we're going to go ahead and
- 5:57get started with one of the biggest free agent names
- 6:00available, which is Aaron Ross Rogers.
- 6:02Now, we all know that he's been linked to the Pittsburgh
- 6:05Steelers. However, there is recent news
- 6:08that Derek Carr is retiring from the NFL.
- 6:11So the Saints have lost their, I guess you could say, starting
- 6:15quarterback. So that opens a spot potentially
- 6:18for Aaron Rodgers. But what do you guys think?
- 6:20Tyler Shuck, pal. It's what?
- 6:22It's what, the Shuck season? Yeah, I kind of have thoughts in
- 6:26that, you know, I go back to the draft when the Saints took
- 6:29Chuck. I kind of felt like right then
- 6:31and there that the Saints had no intentions of winning this
- 6:34season. And it's no.
- 6:36Disrespect to him and what he's about, but at the same time, I
- 6:39think they kind of knew Derek Carr was probably leaning
- 6:42towards this. You don't go into a draft and
- 6:44make and like, you know, not know what your franchise or your
- 6:48at least your starting quarterbacks going to do.
- 6:50So yeah, once I saw that that pick happened, I was kind of
- 6:53like, well, maybe they're on Arch Manning or even that guy
- 6:56from South Carolina Sellers, who's possibly the number one
- 6:59overall pick next year. I think that's kind of where
- 7:01they're leaning towards. I don't know how you guys feel
- 7:03about Shuck and whatnot, but the proper quarterbacks that the
- 7:07Saints have to choose from right now is very, very thin.
- 7:10I think What the Shuck sums up how we feel about Tyler Shuck.
- 7:14Yeah. That's there's not really much
- 7:16else to say. Yeah, I mean, we've said it
- 7:18multiple weeks now. I don't mind saying the end.
- 7:20Tyler Shuck couldn't even started Oregon.
- 7:22Now granted he had significant competition.
- 7:24He went to Texas Tech. He didn't make it there either.
- 7:27Anyone under Louisville had one good season and then apparently
- 7:31became a first round pick or excuse me, second round pick.
- 7:34So good for him, I guess. Good for his finances, I'm sure.
- 7:38But I don't like it and I don't I don't think that Derek Carr
- 7:42retiring moves the needle, the Aaron Rodgers needle at all
- 7:45towards New Orleans. I mean, look at their coaching
- 7:48staff. There's just no possible way
- 7:50that Aaron Rodgers, in his one billionth season, in his 100th
- 7:54year of life, is going to sign up for a first year head coach
- 7:58for Kellen Moore and that coaching staff, Doug Nussmeyer.
- 8:03That just doesn't do it. There's no way he's had notable
- 8:06coaching problems already. Maybe that's not fair.
- 8:09Maybe it's just been what's reported.
- 8:11I know if I'm Aaron Rodgers, I'm not going to a new team.
- 8:15I'm not going to try to establish myself now, trying to
- 8:19make a name for myself. The name is made.
- 8:22He wants to go to a win now team, not a hey, let's build it
- 8:26up. I also don't think and like
- 8:28Corey said, which just to note, we had your third person to keep
- 8:32the continuity of the name. So again, thanks for showing up.
- 8:35Anyway, I think I think Aaron Rodgers moving forward, he's
- 8:38looking to possibly just retire, right.
- 8:40I don't know who's in this retirement class this year, but
- 8:43the Hall of Fame class from the retirement is looking pretty
- 8:45thin. Aaron Rodgers, regardless how
- 8:48you feel about him, he's a shooing for the Hall of Fame.
- 8:50And so if he's if he's in a class that's going to be not by
- 8:53himself, but where he's the biggest name, again, not that
- 8:56we're comparing Derek Carr, say, MVP to Hall of Famer Aaron
- 9:00Rodgers, but I don't think it's a bad option for him.
- 9:03I think he's definitely going to consider it.
- 9:05And the longer he waits, the worst it's going to get.
- 9:08I just think people are going to be less willing to put up with a
- 9:11guy who's cemented not just set in stone in his ways, but
- 9:15cemented in his ways over his long history.
- 9:18Career teams, we should have a hard time feeding them into
- 9:21their system because he's a my System County guy.
- 9:24I agree with you, Will. I'm glad you said that he
- 9:27doesn't fit with the Saints because I don't think he fits
- 9:29with the Saints. I don't think he would even want
- 9:31to go to the Saints. If there's any team that he
- 9:33would want to go to, I think it would be the Pittsburgh
- 9:35Steelers, where he's been linked to this whole time.
- 9:38And the reason for that is because, I mean, their offense
- 9:41may not be the best, right? You just traded George Pickens
- 9:45and now you just basically have DK Metcalf, that receiver with a
- 9:48bunch of guys that. Robert Woods, he was good at one
- 9:51point in his career. OK, yeah, regardless, the
- 9:56offense isn't isn't great, right?
- 9:58The offense hasn't been great for a few years now since they
- 10:01had been Roethlisberger, but the the reason that Aaron Rodgers
- 10:04would want to go there, what makes it attractive, is because
- 10:07that defense has proven that they can get you double digit
- 10:11wins and make the playoffs regardless of how the offense
- 10:15performs. If I was Aaron Rodgers and I had
- 10:17a choice, I would pick the Pittsburgh Steelers because that
- 10:21defense, regardless of how poorly you play on offense, will
- 10:24still carry you to the playoffs. Yeah, and I look at it as Kellen
- 10:28Moore is a first time head coach.
- 10:31You're trying to build your culture there.
- 10:32You really wanting, is it really worth the problem that may come
- 10:36with that? You know, you're going to see a
- 10:39quarterback who's going to want to say and everything.
- 10:42You're not really establishing anything as a culture from a
- 10:45head coaching perspective for a guy who may only play with one,
- 10:48maybe two more years. I don't think Kellen Moore would
- 10:51want to do that. I mean, yes, your chances go up
- 10:54of winning, but you're not really setting yourself up long
- 10:57term or success. If you bring in Aaron Rodgers.
- 11:01If it was three to five years, yeah, you absolutely could
- 11:05because you can still establish what you're wanting to do.
- 11:07But I think you may lose the locker room a little bit if
- 11:10something goes wrong or, you know, things aren't going how he
- 11:14planned. And we saw what what happened in
- 11:16New York with that, right? You know, they they brought him
- 11:19in, obviously the terrible injury right off the start, but
- 11:23it was hauled downhill from there.
- 11:25It's a coach fired, Hackett gets emoted, etcetera.
- 11:28So yeah, that's that's one way that I look at it as well.
- 11:31So if you're in Rogers and let's just say you have, well, yeah,
- 11:34let's just say you have your pick of teams because they're, I
- 11:36think we all can agree there are not 32 better active starting
- 11:41quarterbacks than Aaron Rodgers currently.
- 11:43Is that a fair statement? I'd say that's fair.
- 11:45Yeah, that's fair. So there are 10 teams, maybe
- 11:49maybe 10 is not enough, but ten teams that would seriously not
- 11:53look at him. Or do you think that's not
- 11:55enough? We don't need to name the teams.
- 11:57But if you had the opportunity to get Aaron Rodgers, like, like
- 12:00for instance, the Rakers, not that they're even looking at
- 12:02him, but I think you take Aaron Rodgers over Geno Smith, right?
- 12:06Or disagree. I think I disagree because we
- 12:08talked about it last week on our show.
- 12:09Geno Smith is the perfect quarterback for Pete Carroll.
- 12:12Aaron Rodgers lived in a play action system his entire career
- 12:16in in Green Bay though. I just look at it like
- 12:19relationship with coaches as well, Like he carols an old
- 12:22school guy, Aaron Rodgers is Aaron Rodgers.
- 12:24So it's like, you know. Aaron Rodgers has the one button
- 12:28chin strap still, he's an old school guy.
- 12:31Yeah, that's true. That's true.
- 12:33So, so let's just say we'll cut it in half, right.
- 12:35Let's say half the teams have quarterbacks that they are
- 12:38established with and they are willing to just, we don't even
- 12:41want to look at this 41 year old who could give us one, maybe 2
- 12:44Peyton many years in Denver, which as we mentioned, we're not
- 12:47always good. You can bench for Brock
- 12:49Hausreiler, but still you have Super Lab.
- 12:51You got 2 Super Bowl appearances and a Super Bowl win out of it.
- 12:53So I mean, that's not that's not bad.
- 12:56If you were Aaron Rodgers and you could pick any of those
- 12:59teams and any team available, where would you want to go?
- 13:02I would still probably go Pittsburgh.
- 13:04I just think there the culture that they have there, Mike
- 13:07Tomlin being him, you know, yes, they did just trade George
- 13:10Pickens, but you still have BK Mack, half half Fryer move,
- 13:13Jalen Warren, Caleb Johnson would be just fine.
- 13:16You know, that defense is still Pittsburgh's defense, right?
- 13:19They're still going to be able to, you know, win them games if
- 13:22he's having an off day. While I think him and Mike
- 13:24Tomlin may clash at first, I still think in the end they both
- 13:27kind of get what they they want. Yeah, I would agree.
- 13:30I think it would either, I would still say either the Steelers or
- 13:34the Saints. I already made my case for the
- 13:35Steelers with the defense, but the case for the Saints.
- 13:38I know that roster is not great, but you play in the NFC South
- 13:42and if you want a chance at the playoffs, the NFC South is a
- 13:44pretty good place to do that. Yeah, but that seems not really
- 13:47built to win right now, I think, and not just for the the meme.
- 13:53I actually really like him going to the two and his team has not
- 13:55talked about I like him going to the Vikings.
- 13:58Right. Is JJ McCarthy really your guy?
- 14:00Yeah, you drafted him in the first round right now or last
- 14:03year, but even his time at Michigan, he was not a great
- 14:06ball thrower. And you've got Sam Howell as
- 14:10your backup and Brett Rippon after him.
- 14:12Are you really putting your full stock into those guys or what
- 14:15are we doing? Right?
- 14:16So if you had the option one, maybe 2 years around Rodgers for
- 14:19a team that we saw last year was ready to win.
- 14:21Now they just had some issues. You get a guy in there who you
- 14:26don't need to. I mean, you need him to
- 14:28associate with your receivers, right and your offense and he's
- 14:31got to have good rapport with like 15 guys on that team.
- 14:35But that's not the most difficult.
- 14:38Everybody has me. They can learn from Aaron
- 14:39Rodgers football wise. I'm sure I don't, not just for
- 14:43the Brett Favre going right, Eckers, Jets, Vikings.
- 14:47It's not just for that, but like I just think that team is built
- 14:50to win right now, but which what they have at quarterback,
- 14:53they're just not going to. Yeah, you make a good point.
- 14:55I honestly, I can see if JJ McCarthy gets hurt again, the
- 14:59Vikings will sign Aaron Rodgers, in my opinion.
- 15:02I don't think they're going to ride it out with somehow.
- 15:04I think they'd sign Aaron Rodgers and can have them
- 15:06complete the cycle. Yeah, honestly, it does make
- 15:11sense, though. It does make sense.
- 15:12I think JJ McCarthy probably needs a little bit more time and
- 15:16we could be wrong. The Vikings feel confident JJ
- 15:18McCarthy, they're going to roll with him.
- 15:19So we could be wrong, but I guess we'll see.
- 15:23I like the Vikings pick, but I also there for a little bit, I
- 15:26thought maybe San Francisco could maybe be a sleeper in
- 15:29that, but I think that kind of died down a little bit.
- 15:31But I think the longer that goes without them signing Rock Purdy
- 15:34to an extension, and I think, you know, I'll still hold out
- 15:36that he may he could end up going back to California.
- 15:39Yeah, he's from the Bay Area and went to School of Cow.
- 15:41He's talked about before wanting to go back to California.
- 15:44I don't think the draw is there as much for the team.
- 15:47I don't think the Niners this year are.
- 15:49He's winning the Niners the last couple years, but I don't hate
- 15:52it. All right, well, let's get into
- 15:54some of these other guys, these other remaining free agents
- 15:57will, why don't you go ahead and start us off with one of your
- 15:59top free agents available and give us a couple teams where
- 16:02they may fit? Sure, you offense or defense
- 16:04first, you pick. Let's go offense.
- 16:06Offense. First, let's talk about Nicholas
- 16:08Chubb. Nicholas Jamal Chubb, if you
- 16:11will, went to school at Georgia, drafted by the Browns in the
- 16:14second round, 35 overall, so right early in the second round
- 16:18back in 2018. Went on to have nearly five
- 16:22straight years of 1000 rushing yards each.
- 16:24And I say nearly because in his his rookie season, he had 996
- 16:28yards and then he followed up the following seasons with 1000
- 16:32yards each hit and torn ACL fractured his foot and has not
- 16:36been the same. I mean, this guy, if you don't
- 16:38know, Nick Chubb is a big dude, right?
- 16:41He not in the height, but in physical stature rivals Derrick
- 16:44Henry, which has been a foreshadowing there.
- 16:46But he's he's a big dude. He's a a hard downhill runner,
- 16:50arguably the best running back still available.
- 16:53The injury concerns have have it, I mean, pretty much
- 16:56everybody hesitating, but there's lots of teams out there
- 16:58that need a running back. Even if you have running backs,
- 17:01you always need a running back. Look at the 49ers the past 3-2
- 17:04three seasons, right? They have one go down and then
- 17:07like four more go down. And so they're always picking
- 17:09people up. It's crazy.
- 17:10It's going to be tough for him coming back, right?
- 17:12He's not. Nobody can expect an Adrian
- 17:14Peterson type here after he tours ACL, came back, ran for
- 17:17over 2000 yards. But I like him going to Dallas,
- 17:21not just because I'm a Dallas fan, but I think Dallas needs a
- 17:24Nick Chubb type running back on their roster at all times.
- 17:27I think Nick Chubb averages like 3.7 yards per carry and if
- 17:31that's not Dallas Cowboys football, I don't know what is.
- 17:343 yards in the cloud. It does.
- 17:36It was it was 3.3 last year, but that was his only season
- 17:39averaging 3.3 and it was because of the injury.
- 17:41He just wasn't the same. Before that, he had never
- 17:44averaged below 5 yards a carry. Oh, that's too good for Dallas.
- 17:46They can't have running back. That's true.
- 17:48That's very true. That's very true.
- 17:52No, I think Dallas is. They brought in some free
- 17:54agents. They've tried to address their
- 17:56running back issue, but they also lost some.
- 17:58And after Jerry Jones going on record saying that Derek Henry
- 18:02wouldn't fit in Dallas system and he wouldn't have had his
- 18:04goodness season there. I think he needs to do what he
- 18:07can, especially after saying you better watch out because before
- 18:10or after the draft we're going to make some pretty big moves,
- 18:13which means literally anytime we'll probably do something.
- 18:16So considering that he puts his foot in his mouth at 900 years
- 18:20old like he does, I think Brandon Chubb would bring some
- 18:22veteran help in your offense. He is 29 years old so he's
- 18:28getting up there and running backs running back age, I don't
- 18:30know the last time running back over 30 got paid any there.
- 18:33I say decent NFL money. I mean it's unreasonable money
- 18:36for all of us, but decent NFL money.
- 18:38And so you're not looking for a long term deal here.
- 18:40You're just trying to see if it's just a one year sign him
- 18:43and hope for the best kind of deal.
- 18:45I actually like him in Pittsburgh.
- 18:46They like, they didn't leave nausea here, let no nausea here.
- 18:50So he went off in free agency to the Chargers.
- 18:53They just sort of drafted Caleb Johnson in the third round.
- 18:55They they resigned Jalen Warren and gained Kenneth Gainwell from
- 19:00the Eagles last season. So they have a decent running
- 19:03back core already. But with Mason Rudolph as your
- 19:07current, let's say, starting a quarterback, even though I am
- 19:09probably the biggest Will Howard fan out there right now, even
- 19:12with Will Howard, you're going to need to run the folks.
- 19:14You're going to need all the rain backs you can.
- 19:16I just think that they they're going to bring somebody in just
- 19:19like Dallas is. I also like as kind of a dark
- 19:22horse here. I like the Baltimore Ravens
- 19:24signing hit Chubb. They already have Derek Henry.
- 19:27Obviously everyone knows that they've got Justice Hill.
- 19:30So you've got your two major backs right there.
- 19:32But Derek Henry is getting up there.
- 19:34He's winning the league for a long time.
- 19:36He will be 31 when the season starts.
- 19:39He's just different though. He is built different, there is
- 19:43no question, but he's still hanging up their age and and
- 19:46he's there's just no way that he's going to be able to
- 19:49continue at the same rate every single year.
- 19:52And so other guy who runs a lot like Derrick Henry is Nick
- 19:55Chubb. And so without having to change
- 19:58your offense, being able to sub your guys in, they have the
- 20:01potential to bring him in as a scheme fit guy.
- 20:05To just plug and play whenever they need to.
- 20:07And so you need a guy who can come in and just be that same
- 20:10guy just a little bit shorter. And he'll be a huge benefit for
- 20:12the Ravens as well. I really like the Baltimore fit
- 20:15that that I actually didn't think about that.
- 20:17For Nick Chubb, that would be interesting because you have two
- 20:21big guys and he can just Nick Chubb could just come in and
- 20:24just take a little bit of pressure off Derrick Henry.
- 20:27He doesn't have to do as much. It'd be terrible for fantasy
- 20:30because, you know, I was, I had Derrick Henry on my fantasy team
- 20:33last year and I was hissed every time they took him off the field
- 20:36on 3rd down when he's actually a really good receiving back.
- 20:39He showed it at the end of the season when their backup running
- 20:42back got hurt. He was a really good receiver
- 20:45and they just, they took him off the field every time.
- 20:47So I was pissed off every time they took him off the field to
- 20:49put this other dude on the field.
- 20:50And I was like, what are you doing?
- 20:52Like, I need him to win. But yeah, I, I think he could be
- 20:56good in Dallas too. I mean Corey, you're familiar
- 20:59with with having like 3 running backs.
- 21:02The Broncos did it last year, right?
- 21:03Yeah, they and Denver needs running backs.
- 21:06I actually had Dallas as #2 for Nick Chubb kind of going in
- 21:09there, but I like Denver. They had Bestimae, they
- 21:12obviously drafted RJ Harvey, and then they had Julia McLaughlin.
- 21:15Estimae had some issues holding onto the ball in key situations
- 21:19last year, but I still like Estimae and I like potential and
- 21:22obviously RJ Harvey. But if it wasn't Nick Chubb, I
- 21:24wanted Alvin Kamara. So for the sake Nick Chubb, I
- 21:27think would be a great kind of mentor per SE to like an object
- 21:31guesstimate and RJ Harvey built kind of similar running styles,
- 21:35similar, you know. But again, Dallas looking it'll
- 21:39go to what you guys are saying with Dallas.
- 21:42Yeah, Dallas is definitely in need.
- 21:44Javonte Williams, obviously they picked him up.
- 21:46I don't think he fits in the mold of what Dallas wants to do
- 21:49with the running game. So again, if you were to bring
- 21:52in like a Nick Chubb, I mean, you still got to help back in
- 21:54some way, right? Like you got the receivers, you
- 21:56got that kind of skill positions there.
- 21:59Now you really just need that run game and what they had last
- 22:03year, Rico Dowdle and some of those guys.
- 22:06Like you got to get someone who's proven, you know, a little
- 22:09more in there. And I think Nick Chubb also
- 22:11brings that, you know, he's a very similar to Zeke when Zeke
- 22:14was at his best, right? Like similar Smash Mouth, good
- 22:17goal line running back. So I think it would be a perfect
- 22:20fit as far as you know, Nick Chubb with Dallas as well.
- 22:23Like you just said, I like him in Dallas a lot.
- 22:25They drafted 2 rookie running backs which tend to do pretty
- 22:29well coming to the NFL. Running backs that get the
- 22:31opportunity early to show what they can do.
- 22:34Just like corners. For some reason rookie corners
- 22:37have set in reception records the last two or three times.
- 22:39Not like years in a row. But when the record gets broken
- 22:41it's by your first or second year corner.
- 22:43And same thing with the NFL rookies and running backs is
- 22:46that if they were decent in college, they end up being able
- 22:49to be pretty good in the NFL because it's the best, the best.
- 22:52And they were, they were good in college.
- 22:54And so the the blocking is better, the offense is better,
- 22:57the scheme is better, the coaching is better.
- 22:59And so they did draft 2 rookies, but having a veteran in there to
- 23:02show them their ropes, to take some pressure off to do what
- 23:05they can. And you've got Veronte Williams
- 23:07coming off the the injury. Yeah, he absolutely was not the
- 23:10same once he came back from that injury.
- 23:13You can tell. I mean, he started showing signs
- 23:15of it. But then I don't know if it was
- 23:16just maybe Sean Payton decided that he wanted to bring in
- 23:19other, you know, rotational pieces because he wasn't getting
- 23:22the yardage, you know, that he thought he he really struggled
- 23:25in the preseason and that didn't set it very good.
- 23:27President's heading into the regular season.
- 23:29So again, Sean Payton being Sean Payton, you know, you're not.
- 23:32You know he can only do so much before he's, you know, he wants
- 23:36now, now, now, right? So he just wasn't the same once
- 23:39he came back from that major injury.
- 23:41And I also think that, as mentioned, you said that needs
- 23:44help. That is at his best when he has
- 23:46a good running game and there's a lot of quarterbacks you can
- 23:48say that with. But because I'm a Dallas fan, I
- 23:50seen a Dak first. He needs to hand the ball off
- 23:53quite a few times a game just to set that Gary creeping forward
- 23:56so we can throw it over the top, get George Pickens, the CD open.
- 23:59I don't know. I like Nick Chapman Dallas a
- 24:01lot. Even when Dak has a running
- 24:02game, somehow he always finds a way to throw an interception in
- 24:05the key. He just works.
- 24:06He just always. Yeah, he just always finds a way
- 24:10no matter what. Just always finds a way.
- 24:12But anyways, let's move on to our next free agent.
- 24:15Corey, give us your offensive best free agent available.
- 24:18Yeah, So it's Mari Cooper. There's a handful of teams that
- 24:22I was kind of narrowing it down with.
- 24:24With Amari Cooper. I was going back and forth
- 24:26between the Packers and the Ravens.
- 24:28But I like him in Green Bay and here's why.
- 24:30They got a young group, but they also have guys that are injury
- 24:33prone. And I think, you know, he's not
- 24:35going to be, you know, in every down type play player.
- 24:38But I think he's also a good mold of, you know what you want
- 24:42your receivers to be, right? You know, there was a time where
- 24:45Amari Cooper was top notch. Like everything is so reliable.
- 24:49Cleveland kind of ruined them a little bit.
- 24:52Just like everybody else. Just like everybody else.
- 24:55But you go back when he was with the Raiders, him and Michael
- 24:57Crabtree and what they were able to do there and even him with
- 24:59Dallas. I think he had a good run with
- 25:01Dallas before moving on. I thought, I thought a little he
- 25:05would do a little more with Buffalo and Justin there, what
- 25:07they were doing. But I do like him with Green
- 25:09Bay. You know, I think if you need
- 25:11that big catch, he could be that guy.
- 25:12You're not going to ask him to go out and catch, you know, 8 to
- 25:1510 or you know, Buck 20, five, $1.50.
- 25:18But if you need, you know, like, you know, big chunk play, you
- 25:21know, it's a big third and 15 third and 20 or whatever it is,
- 25:25you know, he would be a guy that you could rely on and he can
- 25:27just kind of show the ropes to the younger guys.
- 25:30Cuz I do. I like Matthew Golden there and
- 25:32and Christian Watson when he can stay healthy and, and even Jalen
- 25:35Reed. So that's that's where I'm going
- 25:37with for Amari Cooper. Yeah, Mark Cooper is only a year
- 25:40removed from having 1000 yard season with the Browns too.
- 25:42So I mean, he still has a little something.
- 25:44Obviously he's not the same player he was, as you mentioned,
- 25:47in Dallas. There was a video that I
- 25:49remember watching of Amari Cooper in Dallas when he was
- 25:54with CD Lamb. They were down and then they
- 25:56were about to run a play to win the game.
- 26:00Like they needed to score a touchdown and the route was
- 26:02supposed to go to Amari Cooper. And there's a video of CD Lamb
- 26:06on the sideline saying to Amari Cooper, hey, like, let me get
- 26:09this route. Let me get this route.
- 26:10And Amari Cooper's like, Nah, man.
- 26:11Like, this is mine. And then he goes and scores a
- 26:15touchdown. Like, Amari Cooper was legit.
- 26:17Oh, yeah. So I think he has a little
- 26:19something. I think he can teach these young
- 26:21wide receivers a little something.
- 26:22So I know Green Bay's wide receiver room is kind of a
- 26:25little crowded, But even if it's just for depth and and just to
- 26:28teach young guys like, I think Amari Cooper would be a good
- 26:31fit. Yeah, and, you know, I even
- 26:33thought about in my head like what a reunion with like the
- 26:35Raiders would be like for him, you know, but I think they like
- 26:39their young tight end group, obviously.
- 26:40And then they have to Kobe Myers.
- 26:41So then, you know, then you really look big picture of
- 26:44Jordan Love needs help. You know, I know there was for
- 26:47the longest time, everyone would give the package crap about
- 26:49you're not getting receivers, you're not getting receivers,
- 26:51not getting receivers. Well, now they're starting to
- 26:53build up a nice little core of them.
- 26:55A better way to do that than put in a a vet who's proven to be,
- 26:59you know, when he's at his best, he's one of the best receivers
- 27:03in the NFL. I've actually never even
- 27:05considered Amari Cooper to Green Bay.
- 27:07I actually really like that now as a Dallas fan, as sorry to
- 27:11keep mentioning that, but I hate the Packers specifically when it
- 27:14comes to playoff time because it's just every single year.
- 27:17Doesn't matter. Well, isn't that just every
- 27:18team? Isn't that just every team?
- 27:20Yeah, but he always ends up being the Packers.
- 27:22Or the 49ers. Niners.
- 27:24Well, yeah. Yeah, it's fair.
- 27:25Yeah, it's one of those two. It's nobody else.
- 27:27It's nobody else, but I think you're right.
- 27:29I mean, they've got they've got a core group that Christian
- 27:31wants and they just draft. Did they push watch this too?
- 27:34Yeah, push. Watch this too.
- 27:35And then they drafted Golden. Golden, yeah, and then some.
- 27:39Brandon's a season event and food, like you said, is not
- 27:42going to be expected to bring the world.
- 27:44That's a good move for them. All right, well, I'm going to
- 27:47stick with a wide receiver for for my best available free agent
- 27:51and I'm going to go with Keenan Allen.
- 27:52I really like Keenan Allen. I actually think that he still
- 27:56has the potential to be a low end wide receiver, one I do.
- 27:59He did have a down year last year with the Bears, but they
- 28:02were also the second worst passing offense in the league.
- 28:05Well, yeah, your cornerback's taking sacks 68 times, you're
- 28:08gonna have a hard time throwing up a ball.
- 28:10Exactly. Fun fact, Will, because I know
- 28:12we've made fun of the Bears for giving up 68 sacks in 2023.
- 28:17The Giants gave up 85 sacks. Good.
- 28:20Golly. Oh yeah.
- 28:22It's all Daniel Jones's fault. It's all his fault. 80.
- 28:27Five. That's terrible.
- 28:28Is that a record? I looked back like 10 seasons
- 28:31and nobody was even close to that.
- 28:33That's gonna be the. Record I don't even know how I
- 28:34got on that, but I just like came across that stat and I was
- 28:38like holy cow like we make fun of the bears for giving up 68,
- 28:41but 85 Dang. That's terrible.
- 28:45That's terrible, this area. But yeah, I think Keene Allen
- 28:48would be a great fit for both the Bills and the Cardinals, and
- 28:52kind of for similar reasons, honestly.
- 28:54So they both had pretty good offenses last year, and both of
- 28:58their defenses ranked out of the outside of the top ten as well.
- 29:01The Bills were 11th and the Cardinals were 15th in defense.
- 29:04So both of these teams this offseason, they went out and
- 29:06said, hey, we need to get better at defense.
- 29:09If we want to take that next step, take our team to the next
- 29:12level, we need to get better at defense.
- 29:14So both of the both the Bills and the Cardinals in the draft,
- 29:17they went very defensive heavy. The Bills drafted 6 defensive
- 29:21players with six out of their nine picks.
- 29:24Their first offensive player wasn't picked until their 6th
- 29:26pick in the draft. Then the Cardinals had 7 picks
- 29:30and out of those seven players they picked 6 defensive players.
- 29:33So both of these teams went defensive heavy.
- 29:35But now it's time for both of these teams to focus on their
- 29:38offense. They need a wide receiver.
- 29:41Both these teams need a wide receiver.
- 29:42So I'm going to start with the Bills.
- 29:44The Bills ranked 9th and passing yards per game last season with
- 29:46227.9 and Josh Allen actually had the second best passer
- 29:51rating of his career with 101.4. So you might ask, well why do
- 29:56the Bills need a wide receiver If they were already that good
- 29:58at passing and Josh Allen had his second best passer rating of
- 30:01his career, why do they need a wide receiver?
- 30:04We talked about it last week on our show with our guest Lincoln.
- 30:07He mentioned when he was talking about the Broncos actually, and
- 30:10I don't know if you agree with this or not, Corey, but he was
- 30:12saying that, you know, when it comes down to it, when the game
- 30:15is on the line, who is Bo Nicks going to throw to?
- 30:18Is he going to go to Cortland Sutton or who else does he have?
- 30:21He was he was making that point like when the game's on the
- 30:24line. What like legit receiver do you
- 30:26have that you can count on in crunch time?
- 30:29It's kind of the same case for Josh Allen, right?
- 30:32The Bills leading receiver in the regular season was Kalil
- 30:34Shakur and I like him a lot, but he he did miss a couple games,
- 30:38but he had 76 sketches for 821 yards and four touchdowns.
- 30:42And then after him their leading receiver was rookie wide
- 30:45receiver Keon Coleman, who also missed a few games, but he had
- 30:4929 catches for 556 yards and four touchdowns.
- 30:53Then they got Amari Cooper to help with the passing game.
- 30:56And again, you can see Josh Allen.
- 30:59It didn't matter that he didn't have like that that legit wide
- 31:02receiver one because he's Josh Allen and he's he's great.
- 31:07But when it mattered in the AFC championship game, it mattered
- 31:11because they hear some of the stats from his receivers in that
- 31:14game. Kalu Shakur, 46 receiving yards.
- 31:17Amari Cooper, 33 receiving yards.
- 31:20Keyon Coleman, one catch for 12 yards.
- 31:22His tight end Dalton Kincaid, 2 catches for 13 yards.
- 31:26Their leading receiver in that game was Mack Hollins.
- 31:29In the regular season, Mack Hollins had 378 receiving yards.
- 31:33When it mattered, the receivers for the Bills were a problem.
- 31:38It didn't matter in the regular season because you can see they
- 31:41won 13 games. But when it mattered the most,
- 31:43who did Josh Allen have to go to?
- 31:45Nobody. He had Matt Collins.
- 31:47The Bills, they need to sign Keenan Allen because again, in
- 31:50my opinion, Keenan Allen still has the potential to be a low
- 31:53end wide receiver one. And that is something that Josh
- 31:56Allen has not had this last season and it's something that,
- 32:00again, he doesn't need. But I think to take their
- 32:02offense to the next level and have that playmaker when it
- 32:06matters, they need to sign Keeny Allen.
- 32:08Buffalo Bills ran 53% of the time running 11 formation, which
- 32:12is 1 running back, one tight end, which means 3 receivers.
- 32:15And so if you're running 3 receivers out there over half of
- 32:19the time, which is an insane amount to run the same formation
- 32:2353% of the time, you need someone to be able to rely on
- 32:26heavily. I think you make a great point
- 32:28of who do you have, right? It comes down to end of that 13
- 32:30seconds, right? That's what everybody complaints
- 32:32about to bills. But until the bills fans
- 32:34complained about and now granted that was they never got to touch
- 32:37the ball. But if you take the 60 minutes
- 32:39prior to that, who did you have? And you you you had somebody.
- 32:42You had Stefan days at that point.
- 32:44You don't have anybody. Now you have no go to guy.
- 32:46I I don't like it because I don't want the Bills to win, but
- 32:50I do like it. Yeah, I do actually like him
- 32:53there and here's why. They have Keon Coleman, right?
- 32:56He is almost identical, Bill, to what Keenan Allen is.
- 33:00So Keenan Allen has better separation as far as what that
- 33:02goes. But if you're going to beat the
- 33:04Chiefs, you got to have something other than one
- 33:06receiver, right? And you need to use the run game
- 33:08and all that. I think Keenan Allen, then you
- 33:10can put guys where they actually need to be instead of trying to
- 33:13like get the mismatch. I think Keenan Allen would still
- 33:15be a mismatch against the Chiefs and I think that would still
- 33:18open up their offense a lot more with what he's able to do.
- 33:21Yeah, And you know, Keenan Allen is a guy who in his career he's
- 33:25had six 1000 yard receiving seasons and he said five 100
- 33:29catch seasons. And most recently he did it in
- 33:312023 with the Chargers. So he's only been a year removed
- 33:35from having a 100 catch, 1000 yard receiving season.
- 33:39And the only reason that he didn't last year is because he
- 33:43won. He wasn't the number one for the
- 33:45Bears, but again, the Bears were the second worst passing offense
- 33:48in the NFL last year. If you go to the Bills, they
- 33:51gave up the least amount of sacks.
- 33:54Last year, they only gave up 14 sacks.
- 33:56So if you go to the Bills, but only is it, do you have a better
- 34:00quarterback in Josh Allen, you also are going to have more time
- 34:04to get open because you're not on a Caleb Williams team where
- 34:08he's getting sacked 68 times. He literally had no time to
- 34:11throw. So if you go to the Bills, who
- 34:13have a great offensive line, you also have Josh Allen who doesn't
- 34:17get sacked as often because of his rushing ability.
- 34:20That gives you more time to get open.
- 34:23And so I think that Keenan Allen still has that ability to be a
- 34:26low end wide receiver one. I think he can still have 1000
- 34:29yards and I think if he goes to the Bills, he will have 1000
- 34:32yards. So I think the Bills need to
- 34:34sign them now to go to the Cardinals.
- 34:38It's a pretty similar reason as the Bills, honestly.
- 34:40The Cardinals do have better wide receivers.
- 34:42They have their wide receiver won already in Marvin Harrison
- 34:45Junior. They have one of the best tight
- 34:47ends in the NFL and trade McBride.
- 34:48Was Marvin Harrison Junior a little bit inconsistent last
- 34:50year? Sure.
- 34:51But when you have a quarterback, you can't see you.
- 34:53You're going to be inconsistent. He had a pretty solid rookie
- 34:58season. It wasn't what everybody was
- 34:59expecting it to be, but he still had 62 catches for 885 yards and
- 35:04eight touchdowns. He's only going to get better.
- 35:06So he is projected to be your wide receiver one.
- 35:09Then you have Trey McBride again, who's one of the best
- 35:12tight ends in the league. What do you have after that,
- 35:14though? You don't have a lot after that.
- 35:16You need a legit threat, a legit third threat in that passing
- 35:20offense, because the Cardinals ranked 18th in passing offense
- 35:24last year. They ranked 7th in rushing
- 35:26yards, which is very good, but then your passing offense was
- 35:30not great and so they need to improve in that area.
- 35:33So you if you put Keenan Allen there again, he's had six 1000
- 35:37yard seasons and five 100 catch seasons.
- 35:39And look at what he did last year.
- 35:41He had 744 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.
- 35:44That's pretty good, especially if you're not going to be the
- 35:46number one guy. So in this offense, he would be
- 35:48the number 3, but he could, he would be a very good #3 he would
- 35:53give Kyler Murray with his and I'm well, I'm going to use your
- 35:57word with his scramble ability, he is going to, he's going to be
- 36:02able to make a lot of plays because Kyler Murray can get out
- 36:06of the pocket and buy extra time with his legs, which would give
- 36:09Keenan Allen more time to get open.
- 36:11Now, kind of similar to what you were saying, Corey, with Keenan
- 36:14Allen, if he was to go to the Bills and they have Kian
- 36:17Coleman, he can mentor Kian Coleman and help him get better
- 36:20because this is a guy who has had a very successful career and
- 36:24he can help Marvin Harrison Junior do the same thing.
- 36:26So I think the Bills and the Cardinals are very similar in
- 36:30the situation where Keenan Island would be a great fit for
- 36:32both of them because they're passing offense needs to get
- 36:36better. Yeah.
- 36:37And and to go to that as well, like you said, what else do they
- 36:40have, right? I think that also opens things
- 36:42up for Trey McBride and it also may open up a little bit better
- 36:45for Marvin Harrison and I think he and Allen on the out routes
- 36:48in the in the back shoulder throws.
- 36:50If they were to get Kyler in his little legs to the outside a
- 36:53little quicker to be the be able to pepper the out routes, I
- 36:56think he and Allen would fit in great there with that.
- 36:59But if you don't have those guys, they're just going to be
- 37:02able to bracket Tray McBride, bracket Marvin Harrison.
- 37:06So now that's leads Kyler in a tough situation where you guess
- 37:09he can scramble, but what if he doesn't?
- 37:11Right? Like now you're just opening up
- 37:13the field more for him and now you're being able to open the
- 37:17field up for other guys. I mean, you see it with all the
- 37:19other teams that have multiple receivers and the Bengals with
- 37:22Chase and T Higgins, they're able to know now you can't just
- 37:25focus on one. You have to game plan for the
- 37:27whole thing. So, yeah, I mean, that would be
- 37:29a pretty good fit for for Arizona.
- 37:31Right. Well, let's move on to our next
- 37:32guy. We're kind of running out of
- 37:34time here a little bit since we kind of got a late start due to
- 37:36the emergency fire we had going on with with Avery.
- 37:39Not we. Yeah, that Avery, that Avery
- 37:43had, the emergency fire Avery had.
- 37:44But with these next guys, let's just go through them real quick.
- 37:48Let's just give one team that you think they fit best with as
- 37:51we go through these guys. So let's go back to Will give us
- 37:55your next guy. Sante Samuel Junior's my next
- 37:57guy top corner, and for the Chargers, I almost had the
- 38:00Clippers we're on Lac for. You had to get our basketball.
- 38:05Reference had you the basketball reference also Mark Davidson.
- 38:08Sarah still sucks. Had to slip that in there sound
- 38:12to Samuel top corner for the Chargers almost as he can.
- 38:16He had a shoulder injury and then had neck surgery which kept
- 38:19him out some last year. He has been on record of saying,
- 38:22oh, it's not going to have any effects going long term.
- 38:25Of course he said that right. I actually really like him to
- 38:28most of the teams already said the Bills, the Ravens and
- 38:32actually the Bengals. The Bengals couldn't stop a wet
- 38:35paper bag last season. I mean, they couldn't do
- 38:38anything. There's one goal in the AFC
- 38:40right now and stop the Chiefs. And what did the Chiefs do?
- 38:43The Chiefs throw the ball, so pick your contender in the AFC.
- 38:47That's where the top corner should go.
- 38:49They honestly should open the bag for him, give him a one year
- 38:52deal, give him a whole lot of money for one year as a perfect
- 38:55deal to make sure the next year is not going to be lasting.
- 38:57But again, AFC is where he needs to go.
- 39:00I want to see him in Washington because Dan Quinn, but he really
- 39:03should go to anywhere in AFC that's going to be a contender.
- 39:06Yeah, I like the Bengals. I actually had Stephane Gilmore,
- 39:10who I'm going to talk about in a little bit, and the Bengals were
- 39:12one of my teams. But I'm going to talk about
- 39:14somebody else now because I think is a better fit for
- 39:15somebody else. But the Bengals were one team I
- 39:17picked, and one of the reasons for that is because they're one
- 39:21of their starting corners. Dax Hill is coming off an ACL
- 39:24injury, and when your past defense was already that bad, is
- 39:27it really going to be better when you put in a corner who's
- 39:30coming off an ACL injury? I don't.
- 39:33Definitely think so. So, so the Bengals and they
- 39:37didn't draft a corner either. I, I really thought they were
- 39:40going to draft a corner. I really would have liked to see
- 39:42them draft a corner because their past defense was just bad.
- 39:45Like you can improve your past defense with a defensive lineman
- 39:50and linebackers somewhat, but you also need guys in the
- 39:53secondary to cover the wide receivers.
- 39:55So the Bengals didn't really do anything to address that, and so
- 39:59I think that if they signed Asante Samuel Junior that it
- 40:02would be beneficial for them. They haven't even signed any
- 40:05corner free agents, not even like his backups currently they
- 40:08have they've done they've done nothing for their secondary.
- 40:11They brought in a couple linebackers, but that's where
- 40:15that's where their help stops off the line.
- 40:17So they they need something about their.
- 40:20Cheese fans are happy because they're true.
- 40:22The Bengals are wasting Joe Burrows best years.
- 40:24They yes, the Bengals defense are they're doing a lot for the
- 40:28offense. They're they're making sure he's
- 40:29got weapons for the offense. That's true.
- 40:30But that defense is saying, yeah, your offense is great, but
- 40:34defense wins championships. Clearly, we're not going to.
- 40:37You got any thoughts on the Sante Samuel Junior Corey?
- 40:39Yeah, that's actually one of my brother's favorite corners and
- 40:42he was kind of curious on your to hear what you guys think on
- 40:45that as well. So I like the Bengals because I
- 40:47was actually going to put the next who I was going to talk
- 40:50about there as well, just because they've done the
- 40:52absolute bare minimum to help their defense.
- 40:55I guess when you're wanting to put up 40 some points a game,
- 40:58you're gonna hope your defense can give up like 38.
- 41:01I guess I'm not, I'm not too sure.
- 41:04But they need as much help as they can get.
- 41:07And that's still a good veteran order, right?
- 41:09If he comes back healthy from all the injuries and stuff and
- 41:12whatnot. Actually was curious as to why
- 41:15the Chargers kind of even let him go to begin with themselves.
- 41:17I think they're already weak in the secondary themselves, so
- 41:20that's why I was extremely surprised to see that they
- 41:23hadn't even considered it. I'd say it's going to be the
- 41:26same reason that the cold cycle paid Manning.
- 41:28You had neck surgery. Everything's uncertain.
- 41:32We're just going to find somebody else.
- 41:34Yeah. Since we're on the topic of the
- 41:35Bengals and you're going to pick your next guy for the Bengals,
- 41:38tell us who that is Corey and why.
- 41:40Again, why you think he fits with the Bengals.
- 41:42Yeah, it's it's Von Miller and deep down it should be the
- 41:45Denver Broncos, honestly finish his career out there.
- 41:48I know I was going to pick the Chiefs, but I don't want to put
- 41:50that in the atmosphere. So the Bengals, they they need
- 41:54rush, they need rushing help, right?
- 41:56Or rushing gets the quarterback essentially.
- 41:59I know they have Trey Hendrickson, but who knows
- 42:00what's going to happen there with I.
- 42:02I read that it's not getting any better as far as the contract
- 42:04talks have gone there. Yeah, so worse.
- 42:07Yeah, it's getting worse that they've kind of cut off
- 42:10communications as a whole, right?
- 42:13I don't think Von Miller's going to ask for a ton of money and I
- 42:16don't know, I guess I can't speak on that.
- 42:18He could still ask for a ton of money and the Bengals still may
- 42:21not be able to get it. It'd be curious to see if they
- 42:23do give him maybe like 15,000,000 and then Trey Henders
- 42:27spec. What the hell?
- 42:28So that would be an interesting kind of situation.
- 42:31But again, they're wasting Joe Burrows best years.
- 42:35And it's it's frustrating because Joe Burrow's a really
- 42:37good quarterback and, and what he's been able to do.
- 42:41And they obviously got over the hump once against Kansas City.
- 42:43They thought they were, you know, they were all world and
- 42:46then they haven't done anything since.
- 42:47So you if you're going to win the AFC, you're going to have to
- 42:51do it with defense because you have Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson,
- 42:55Patrick Mahomes, hopefully Bo Nicks and some of those other
- 42:58guys. You know you're not going to be
- 43:01able to do it by putting up that many points because there's
- 43:03defenses in the AFC that can't shut that down.
- 43:06That Bengals just need everything on defense.
- 43:08Yes. And with their you said they
- 43:11need quarterback Russian help with their first pick.
- 43:13They went to Mark Stewart, who we talked about on his show
- 43:17before. Three like 3 sacks in three
- 43:21years. 4 1/2 Four. And a half sacks in three. 1 1/2
- 43:24every year. 1 1/2 every year. I mean, that's, that's not it.
- 43:28You use your first drive pick on a guy who can barely get to the
- 43:31quarterback, but he had. Good pressures.
- 43:33They went defense, though. Yeah, pressures in the AFC mean
- 43:37nothing because you've got like was just mentioned, if you're on
- 43:40the Bengals, you've got Lamar Jackson, you're chasing down,
- 43:43you've got Josh Allen, you're chasing down and you've got
- 43:46Patrick Mahomes who somehow runs.
- 43:48I don't know he it's. And you got to chase down Will
- 43:50Howard. And you're going to have to
- 43:52chase you. Won't you want to chase him
- 43:54down? Excuse me?
- 43:55Standing there slinging it. No question he'll be slinging
- 43:58it. You won't have to chase out
- 44:00Aaron Rodgers, that's for sure. But you're right, they need,
- 44:03they need some serious help. Von Miller is not.
- 44:06I don't think he's fully washed up yet.
- 44:08I don't think he didn't sell for any real favors in Buffalo, but
- 44:12I I think he's still got some left in the tank.
- 44:15Super Bowl MVP amount of money, we all would have taken that.
- 44:17No one thought the Bills were actually going to give him that
- 44:19contract. None of us would have turned
- 44:20that down at our rate for that. No, yeah, there's there's no
- 44:24way. I'm like, yeah, I'll sign it
- 44:25yesterday. Hey, he had six sacks last
- 44:30season. I.
- 44:30Mean, outside of Hendrickson. I mean, that's that's still more
- 44:33than what the Bengals will probably get the shit out of
- 44:34anybody else. True, that's true.
- 44:38All right, well, I'm going to get into my last guy here and
- 44:40then we're going to wrap up the show because we are out of time.
- 44:43So my last guy is Stephane Gilmore, as I mentioned, you
- 44:46know, he's a he's a veteran corner.
- 44:48He's not the same as he once was.
- 44:49And we've been saying that for years now.
- 44:51Even when he signed with Dallas and everybody was saying, you
- 44:53know, he's not what he once was, but Stephon Gilmore is a guy who
- 44:57has done just about everything there is to do from the corner
- 45:00position in the NFL. He's won Defensive Player of the
- 45:02Year, he's won a Super Bowl, he's made the Pro Bowl five
- 45:06times and he's been All Pro twice.
- 45:08Why not put him on the Jaguars? Your first two draft picks were
- 45:13corners. You drafted Travis Hunter and
- 45:17you drafted Caleb Ransaw, I believe from Tulane with your
- 45:21first two picks because your secondary was the absolute
- 45:25worst. They ranked dead last in passing
- 45:28yards given up last season. Yeah, they were the worst.
- 45:31They made some moves to address that.
- 45:33They did sign Jordan Lewis from Dallas as a nickel corner, who I
- 45:37think is going to do well there because he's, I mean, he's
- 45:39better than than. He's going to make it their
- 45:42defense better. He's not great, but he's going
- 45:44to make their defense better. You signed Travis Hunter and
- 45:47Caleb Branson, so if you made these moves, especially with
- 45:51your two young corners, you're expecting him to come in and
- 45:55play right away and contribute right away.
- 45:57So who is better than Stephane Gilmore, who again has one
- 46:01defensive player of the year from the corner position?
- 46:03He's won a Super Bowl, he's made Pro Bowls and he's been an All
- 46:06Pro. Who is better to mentor those
- 46:09guys and teach them the NFL game then Stephane Gilmore?
- 46:13And he can also be a contributor for the Jaguars because who
- 46:16knows how much Travis Hunter is actually going to play corner?
- 46:19Who knows what position he's going to play?
- 46:21He could be playing quarterback out there 50% of the time.
- 46:23Who knows? But I just think that Stephane
- 46:27Gilmore would be good for the Jaguars just specifically
- 46:30because of his ability to teach these young corners who they
- 46:33drafted how to play the NFL game.
- 46:36He's seen a few things in his time, right?
- 46:38Like you said, he's won awards, won a Super Bowl.
- 46:41He he knows how to play the game the right way.
- 46:44And that's what you want with the young defense, especially
- 46:46with Travis Hunter. Like, you don't know what you're
- 46:48going to get Travis Hunter, but what better way to do that than
- 46:51put in a vet to kind of show him the ropes?
- 46:54I think getting away from Colorado and that circus there,
- 46:56I think that's going to help Travis Hunter a lot to see an
- 46:59NFL locker room. But then you sit him next to
- 47:02Stephon Gilmore for a season. Yeah, I would.
- 47:04I would think more highly of Travis Hunter going forward if
- 47:07he had someone to learn from like that.
- 47:09Yeah. Yeah, and in college, I mean,
- 47:11you see, and I know these are just highlights because
- 47:15everybody loves to point them out, but it's just one play here
- 47:18and there. But like, you've seen plays of
- 47:20Travis Hunter just getting torched.
- 47:22Yeah. At the corner position, like I
- 47:24think he's going to be a better receiver than he is going to be
- 47:27a corner. But if they really are going to
- 47:29play him on both sides of the ball, one, when he's at wide
- 47:33receiver, he can have Stefan Gilmore covering him in
- 47:36practice, teaching him like, hey, you should have done this
- 47:38or you should have done this, like to get away from me or
- 47:40whatever, you know? And when he's on defense, he can
- 47:42teach him like, hey, this is what you should do to.
- 47:45So he's kind of teaching him the same thing like both times.
- 47:48So I think it would be a really good fit.
- 47:49Again, the Jaguars had the worst pass defense in the NFL and you
- 47:53can never have too much depth at a position.
- 47:55Where you were the worst. Absolutely true.
- 48:02That's all we have time for today on our show.
- 48:04Want to give another thank you and shout out to Corey from show
- 48:08Victoria Sports. Filling in for Avery today
- 48:09because of the emergency fire that blew up Avery's house
- 48:13potentially, we don't actually know yet.
- 48:16So thank you again for filling in.
- 48:17We appreciate it and we will see you guys next time.
- 48:21We'll be back next week with more NFL content for you.
- 48:24And as always, don't forget to keep your balls played with.
- 48:27We'll see you next time.
