- 0:41The f A. Hey, y'all, welcome to today's show. We'll pick
- 1:02back up with our series on the father Sparago's exhaustive explanation of the Catechism the
- 1:07Catholic Church. We're going to do a really interesting topic. It's a relationship
- 1:11between the Church and state, which is, you know, a perennial perennial
- 1:17issue, we might say. But first we'll start with radio replies that classic
- 1:22book from the forties. The questioner asks of the two priests, what is
- 1:26your attitude toward John Wesley? And they say Wesley was a good and sincere
- 1:32man, but he was mistaken in his notion of Christianity. It was evil
- 1:37that he should have created a further sect gap, because he and his followers
- 1:41were sincere. God bless their goodwill and many things, drawing good work,
- 1:46good from their work, in spite of the undoubted evil of preaching erroneous doctrines
- 1:51as if they were indeed the true doctrines of Christ. Meanwhile, God wills
- 1:56for Wesleyans the greater goods still over returned to the cat the church. I
- 2:00think it's very well put. I mean, you may remember I was a
- 2:02Methodist youth minister for a time, and I would certainly say that especially most
- 2:09of the old folks of that church had a sincere faith, a complete ignorance
- 2:15of Catholicism and its doctrines, often quite a bias toward Catholicism and its doctrines,
- 2:21often quite a bias toward Baptist And you know, the both churches had
- 2:27their own baseball team and were quite very much the rivals. That could get
- 2:30pretty heated. But yeah, Methodism comes from Wesleyanism, and yeah, I
- 2:36mean you can't doubt those people's faith. You know, you're judged by what
- 2:40you know and understand. Catholics are judged much more harshly because we have the
- 2:46fullness of the truth they aren't. Yeah, was it fair? Well,
- 2:52imagine the parables. Jesus was telling to the Jews that what they the religion
- 2:57given to them by God through abra Ham and Moses, was going to be
- 3:00taken away from them and given to the gentiles. Was that fair? Was
- 3:06it fair? When? Well, we could go on down that road.
- 3:12I mean they're parallels to you know, trading the inheritance for a pot of
- 3:17a bowl of lentils essentially a mess of pottage. Or was it Esau's yeah,
- 3:23inherits being taken away, and then by Isaac and Ishmael, what was
- 3:29rightfully due the older brothers given to the younger brother I mean and over and
- 3:32over. I mean we just see this over and over. I mean,
- 3:35there're you know, there's these are types in the Bible, in the Old
- 3:39Testament explaining exactly what would happen when you know, approximately half the Jews rejected
- 3:47Jesus, about half did convert, but their gift of being God's chosen people
- 3:54was then given to the Catholic Church, which becomes the New Jerusalem, the
- 3:59new religion. Before they were exclusive, what they had was taken away.
- 4:03You know, you know, they can still have a relationship with God again.
- 4:11People are judged by their understanding, but they would have been had a
- 4:15much surer and easier past salvation had they become Christian, accepted Jesus's the Messiah.
- 4:24You know they are well, you can read the Catechism. You can
- 4:27see what various religions, how close they are in union in one yeah,
- 4:32in union with the Catholic Church. I mean they're not in full communion,
- 4:36but you know, I guess it was Saint Augustine said all salvation comes through
- 4:41the Catholic Church. Before you know, the Bible said salvation comes through the
- 4:46Jews that was taken and given to the Catholic Church founded by Jesus. The
- 4:51new Church, the new religion, the new people of God, the new
- 4:56Jerusalem, the shining city set upon a hill. And yeah, I'm sorry,
- 5:01much as I loved Round Reagan, as much as I really like Steve
- 5:04Bannon's show, America is not the new Jerusalem. The Catholic Church is the
- 5:09new Jerusalem. America needs God. God does not need America. If America
- 5:14abandons God, it will fall like every empire before it. Only one institution
- 5:18has existed for two thousand years, and that's the one founded by Jesus Christ,
- 5:25the one Holy, Catholic, Apostolic, one Holy. I'm get it
- 5:30out. Let's think, let's get the Catholic Church. So the next question,
- 5:35they say, the Baptist Church is the true church. It really acts
- 5:40as did the first Christians. Whilst the Catholic Church is not mentioned in scriptures
- 5:44as the true church, a lot of Babtists really believe that too. The
- 5:48Baptist Church is certainly not mentioned in scriptures. The Catholic Church is most clearly
- 5:54described there. Meantime, do Baptist act as did the first Christians? Do
- 5:58they go to confession? Have they the sacrifice of the mass? Baptists,
- 6:01like other Protestants, insist on one thing not commanded by Christ, and neglect
- 6:06most of the things insisted upon by him. Also, Christ said that his
- 6:11church would be in the world all days from his time and to the end
- 6:15of the world. But where was the Baptist church before the fifteenth century.
- 6:18Christ certainly was not the founder of the Baptist Church. It is subject to
- 6:23all the defects common to the other forms of Protestantism. And if you thought
- 6:27that one was kind of ridiculous, how about this one? The next question.
- 6:30I'm going to leave it with that one. Just three there from this
- 6:31book today, whatever you may say of other churches, you will never be
- 6:35able to prove that the seven day Adventists are wrong. Whilst we remain true
- 6:40to the Bible seven day adverage from the one that say, every Christian that
- 6:45worships on Sundays worshiping the devil and going to Hell, and they're the only
- 6:47ones going to heaven because they still worship on the Jewish Sabbath. I say,
- 6:54if you were true to the Bible, no one could prove you wrong.
- 6:57But you are most unbiblical. Your very system leaves you without any real
- 7:01proof that the Bible is the inspired word of God. It cannot say what
- 7:05is It cannot say what is the real sense of all that is contained in
- 7:11the Bible. It concentrates upon a few misinterpreted texts, and it ignores that
- 7:16the whole trend of scripture. Although all scripture is of equal value as God's
- 7:21word, the Catholic Church alone can guarantee scripture as the word of God,
- 7:27and alone can guarantee its correct meaning. Well, let's put that in other
- 7:32words, I always like to do that. In other words, the Catholic
- 7:38Church gave us the Bible. Catholic Church decided which Jewish scriptures would be comprised
- 7:44the Old Testament. The apostles wrote, or really more dictated the books of
- 7:48the New Testament. The apostles decided, you know what would be acts I
- 7:56mean, from Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John to the Revelation of
- 8:01Saint John, Books of Peter, the Letters of Saint Paul. The Catholic
- 8:05Church gave us all of that. There's no Bible except the Bible that comes
- 8:11from the Catholic Church. Their false scriptures, like the Gnostic so called doctrines
- 8:16a gospels I mean, which were they were heresies. They were condemned in
- 8:20the early centuries of the Church. They were fictitious faults and actually made up
- 8:24by the man described in Well at least inspired by the man described in the
- 8:31Acts as Simon the Magician, the one who wanted to buy the Holy Spirit
- 8:35and had had nothing to do with the with the Church. He went on,
- 8:41gosh, where did he go? Samaria maybe seems like, called himself
- 8:46Jesus and started a cult, and they started to write false, false gospels
- 8:54called the Gnostic Gospels. There they're fictitious, erroneous and evil and they have
- 8:58you know, they can't even be compared with holy scripture. But the Catholic
- 9:03Church that gives us the Bible can also guarantee the Bible, because Jesus said,
- 9:09those who hear you hear me, and those who reject you reject him
- 9:11who sent me. Without the Catholic Church one, you have no Bible,
- 9:16I mean. Protestantism only got started in the fifteen hundreds when Luther started stripping
- 9:20out books from the Bible he didn't like and changing the words of Jesus.
- 9:24So every Protestant Bible is a false Bible. Maybe not quite as bad as
- 9:30the Gnostic scriptures. But if you've got the King James version, or I
- 9:33don't even know the Good News New Day, whatever the Bible of the day
- 9:35is, if it doesn't contain all the books in the Catholic Bible, if
- 9:41it doesn't contain the words as written in the bibliosacrovoic Goda. When Saint Jerome
- 9:48translated all the books of the Bible into Latin and the three hundreds, you
- 9:52know they've been in Greek and something's in Hebrew, and all that he put
- 9:56them into a cohesive volume meant three hundreds. Just imagine that the only Christian
- 10:03Church on earth, the Catholic Church, had no Bible for about three hundred
- 10:05years. So you can't say that all Christianity is based on the Bible.
- 10:11Solo scripture of the Bible alone is the sole authority, because there wasn't a
- 10:13Bible. But where does the Bible get us authority? How do you know
- 10:18it's real in the Word of God that comes from the Catholic Church. So
- 10:22for a seven day Adventists say they're true to the Bible. One, they
- 10:24don't have a real Bible. Two, they have no reason to actually believe
- 10:31the Bible because they don't have the authority of the Church. How do they
- 10:33know that it's any better than the Gnostic Gospels so called or the Book of
- 10:39Mormon. That would be probably an even better example, because the Mormons came
- 10:43about just before the Adventists. Why aren't the Adventist, you know, following
- 10:48the Mormons because at some point their grandparents, their great great great grandparents,
- 10:56were Catholic and gave them that deposit of the faith which comes through the Catholic
- 11:01Church. When a Baptist usually boasts that they only believe in that, I
- 11:05think it's the sixty six books of the King James Bible, they're admitting they
- 11:09don't have a complete Bible. I mean, if they knew what they were
- 11:13saying, they would realize they're saying, Hey, I only believe in this
- 11:18fake, fraudulent, counterfeit Bible. That doesn't give me the fullness of the
- 11:20truth, not the actual Bible, not what Jesus said, not what the
- 11:26apostles wrote, what Martin Luther thought was right as then interpreted by some English
- 11:33folks who knew the King James Bible. That's when it says authorized version,
- 11:37it just means it's the official Bible the Church of England. And I'm sorry,
- 11:39my ancestors fought at least two wars to get away from the Church of
- 11:45England and British rule. Why in the world would that give me credibility to
- 11:48it? For me, it doesn't at all. And my Irish ancestors fought
- 11:54for centuries to get just to live free of being enslaved by the English.
- 12:01So I don't have a whole lot of respect for anyone other than the natural
- 12:07respect the dignity of a human being. But I don't have any respect for
- 12:11the argument that the King James Version is the only trustworthy, reliable Bible just
- 12:18because it's the Bible authorized by the Anglican Church. That's it's frankly, so
- 12:24historically ignorant. I mean, it's it's a childish argument. It's just stupid.
- 12:35I mean, it's one of those things that's so dumb it's hard to
- 12:39refute because you hand someone the actual facts and they won't believe them. They're
- 12:43going to believe that, you know, day is night and night is day,
- 12:46and the sky is I don't know, purple in the earth is blue
- 12:52whatever. The sky is green and the earth's blue. How's that. We'll
- 12:54go with opposites, all right. Now, let's get into the x an
- 13:00age of the Catechism from father s Charago. And this is interesting under the
- 13:05topic of the relations between the Church and state, the state might be defined
- 13:11as an institution having for its end the promotion of the temporal well being of
- 13:16its members. Church and state have similar ends in view, but the Church
- 13:20looks mainly to the eternal welfare of its members. Both have their power from
- 13:24God, the church holding hers from Christ, while the state receives its powers
- 13:28not from an assembly of men, but from God. There are various points
- 13:33of difference between church and state. You know, just what the Bible says.
- 13:37The Bible says you have to abate your political leaders not so much.
- 13:41But they're really talking more kings because the king was put there by God.
- 13:48It's another reason America is not really the new Jerusalem. God didn't actually authorize
- 13:56democracy as a constitutional republic. We were a little bit closer to how we
- 14:03should have been. But you know, God, basically it said to the
- 14:09Jews following me as your king, and when they want a different form of
- 14:13government, he chose for them a king. We as Catholics should look to
- 14:20the Catholic Church. In a perfect world, we would be ruled and governed
- 14:22by the Vatican. I'm not what we know what happened with the French Revolution.
- 14:30They absolutely never should have revolted against the King of France because that was
- 14:35the beginning of communism and so horrible and violent that streets ran knee deep in
- 14:41blood. Well, it's tricky when we get to like America, because I
- 14:50see the King of England revolted against the Catholic Church, supposedly forming his own
- 14:58religion, so he declared himself not just king, but essentially pope. Yeah,
- 15:05I could make a strong argument that he lost his authority to rule the
- 15:09people of England. But we as Americans probably would have been a heck of
- 15:15a lot better off if we had made George Washington king. You know,
- 15:22he actually, even though he was a Mason, and our nation was founded
- 15:28almost entirely by Masons, except for my ancestor Charles Carroll, the only Catholic.
- 15:33George Washington converted to Catholicism at the end of his life, we could
- 15:37have been under a Catholic king as opposed to losing our republic during the Civil
- 15:45War. Following the Civil War and the actions of Jackson and Lincoln cost us
- 15:52our republic, we ended up with a democracy. You know, in a
- 15:54democracy, three wolves vote to eat two sheep. Everybody gets a fair vote.
- 16:00Right, the might does not make right. The number of people on
- 16:06your side doesn't mean that you're going to make the right choice. And since
- 16:10the end of the eighteen hundreds, as America became a democracy and universal franchise
- 16:18became commonplace, I mean, it used to be that the only people that
- 16:22could vote were property owners, didn't matter if they were men, women.
- 16:26There were black people who voted who were property owners. After the Civil War
- 16:32they said all the slaves could vote whether they owned property or not. Then
- 16:34it was all women can vote, whether they owned property or not. And
- 16:37you may think that's right or wrong, but that's not the way our founders
- 16:40intended it. The property owners because they pay the taxes. There was no
- 16:45income tax at the time. That's also unconstitutional. We should never have had
- 16:49an income tax. Our founders actually said it was immoral to tax income property
- 16:56owners. Would vote for essentially their state legislator and their congressman. The state
- 17:02legislature would then vote for the senators, and the senators would choose the president.
- 17:06This country went a good long time without the people voting for a president.
- 17:11I know that would shock a lot of people if you don't know your
- 17:14history. But imagine if we had had a Catholic king in George Washington,
- 17:18the Masons would have have been sassinated. No, seriously, the Masons would
- 17:22have killed him. That is the fruit of the Protestant so called Reformation.
- 17:30You ended up with powerful anti Catholic organizations that were fostered by Protestant kings in
- 17:42England, Protestant rulers in Germany, Switzerland, go down the list. Italy
- 17:49it's led nothing to but to nothing but revolutions, Communist revolutions, world wars,
- 17:56and complete lack of stability and degradation of morality in the family. So
- 18:06just imagine anyway, that's a tangent, and you may think I'm totally wrong.
- 18:11I'm just conjecturing kind of about history. But it as proud as I
- 18:15am of my ancestors, she fought in the Revolution. I had many,
- 18:21not just the Irish English as well Scots Irish. Well, actually the Scottsirish
- 18:26actually were loyalists, so I can't blame the Scots Irish for it. Some
- 18:30of them did fight in the Revolution, some of them had sworn loyalty to
- 18:37England and could not. Native Americans fought against the English. Some of them
- 18:41here in North Carolina did up and up north it was different. They had
- 18:45sided with the English. But as proud as I am for them their valor,
- 18:51and as much as I could make the argument that you know, the
- 18:56King of England no longer had an authority because he was no longer part of
- 19:00Christendom. He had separated himself from the authority of God's Church. And you
- 19:11know, I'm going to be an Irish Republican rebel for always. I think
- 19:15the Irish absolutely should have fought against the English and never given up. Did
- 19:21it on the Scottish and the Welsh, etc. But I think I think
- 19:29the republican form of government as founded by our framers, and you know,
- 19:33a huge fan of Thomas Jefferson, so I'm not criticizing them at all,
- 19:37failed and was replaced by democracy in the late eighteen hundreds. And I'm not
- 19:48unless barring a miracle, I don't see America being around another century, falling
- 19:55apart from within. I mean, when artificial intelligence takes I was talking with
- 20:00economists just yesterday. When top economists in the world actually happens to be a
- 20:06friend of mine. This is someone he ran the economy of Morocco. He
- 20:11worked for David Rockefeller, he ran the Bankers Association. I mean, I
- 20:14could go down the list, worked in the Reagan administration. He's the guy
- 20:18that tells the Federal Reserve basically what to expect. And we were talking about
- 20:23artificial intelligence. I said, you know, what's going to happen when it
- 20:26takes fifty percent of the jobs. He said, no, that's a that's
- 20:30a very conservative estimate. He said, we're talking about like seventy seventy five
- 20:34eighty percent of jobs are going to be taken by artificial intelligence within the next
- 20:38twenty years. How scary is that, I said, I said so,
- 20:48I said, so, okay, then the only thing that we can do
- 20:51what we could expect. The first thing is a universal basic income. You
- 20:55know, people are going to be out of work and for our economy to
- 20:57keep going, for people to have money to spend it's going to send everybody
- 21:00a check and expect people just to be consumers, go out and buy goods
- 21:03to keep the economy going. And he said, yeah, but here's the
- 21:07problem. The same side of the political aisle, the liberal side that would
- 21:11encourage universal basic income, is also the one that wants open borders. And
- 21:17you can't have universal income and open borders. They're going to begin then advocating
- 21:22population control. All right, So this doesn't end well for us. This
- 21:30does not end well for us. Surprisingly, he didn't see China's as much
- 21:33of the threat as I do. He said that they were making the mistake
- 21:37of that the Soviet Union did, in that they were putting so much money
- 21:42into their military and being a communist system, it's a distributionist you know,
- 21:47just like basically, like I just described that they can only your economy is
- 21:53only getting to the point where it's only big enough to support about half the
- 21:56people. And he thinks China will collapse. I hope he's right that it
- 22:00collapses in time before we have a nuclear war. Dido Russia did Iran.
- 22:07He has a huge concern over Iran. We talked a lot about the Muslim
- 22:10Brotherhood, Muslim Brotherhood is very much allied with the Masonic Order. Masonic Order
- 22:18is not Christian. It doesn't believe in any religion. Therefore, supposedly all
- 22:22members of every religion can be part of it, except Catholics. Catholics are
- 22:26they hate Catholics. The Masonic Order has two goals stated goals, destroy the
- 22:32Catholic Church and topple all monarch monic monarchies, all kings. Now, they
- 22:40will accept Catholics, but they have to swear allegiance to the Masodic Order over
- 22:44God and his Church. Any Catholic it becomes a Mason is actually ipso fact
- 22:52so excommunicated. And you know, even Pope Francis had reiterate that recently Catholics
- 22:57are not allowed to become Freemasons. But anyway, yeah, we'd have probably
- 23:03been a whole lot better off if George Washington had become a king. Well,
- 23:11I went to school with his great great, great great I guess granddaughter
- 23:17by far, the most beautiful, delightful, intelligent woman I've ever known.
- 23:25I wasn't good enough for her, even though, well see I didn't know
- 23:29back then my heritage. I didn't know, you know, my family was
- 23:33in the d R and was descendant of a signer of the decoration. If
- 23:37I had known that, maybe we would have been in more social events together.
- 23:41You know, she just thought I was just a nice guy, but
- 23:45not really up to her level. Now she's been divorced three times, so
- 23:51I think she probably got maybe made a bad choice there, at least in
- 23:53my opinion. But no, if yeah, I do think a republic,
- 24:03a republican form of government, the republic we were founded to be, has
- 24:06not existed since I would say the Civil War. You could actually back it
- 24:11up a little bit, you know, Yeah, but definitely not since reconstruction,
- 24:19when you know, the entire system of voting was turned on its head.
- 24:25Yeah, so anyway, we'll get back to back to Father Spiago here.
- 24:30Oh, we had just explained that both the church and state have their
- 24:37power from God. Well, I don't actually think you can say that about
- 24:41say, communist China, for instance, an atheistic state. But you know,
- 24:45we have to remember that divine providence states that God allows all things to
- 24:51happen. Nothing happens outside of his will, so even things that are horribly
- 25:00evil he finds a way to use for good. But Father Sparago wrote this
- 25:03before there was a single truly communist government. He goes great length condemning communism.
- 25:11So it would have been interesting if he had been around after the Soviet
- 25:19the Bolshevik Revolution in Soviet Russia, so he could have explained, does you
- 25:27know does well, obviously God doesn't approve of this atheistic, communist, genocidal,
- 25:33murderous regime regime are and you know, later the Church would say that
- 25:40Catholics had no were not required to follow their godless laws and commands. I
- 25:48would have liked to have had a commentary on how Father Sparago reconciled these two
- 25:56ideals, but you have to remember it his time in the eighteen nineties,
- 26:00there were still mostly monarchies in the world, very few, I guess one
- 26:07or two republics, and America was still essentially a republic. I mean it
- 26:12was eighteen ninety it was transitioning into a democracy. But yeah, anyway,
- 26:18we'll just going on with it here. There are various points of difference between
- 26:22church and state. The Church is one, while states are many. The
- 26:26states include one or more nations. The Church embraces all the nations of the
- 26:32earth. States grow up and pass away, the Church remains forever. The
- 26:37Church recognizes every form of existing government. And see that's what I'm saying.
- 26:41I mean, in the eighteen nineties the Church could recognize every form of existing
- 26:45government. I'm not sure after the Communist revolution they could. And he goes
- 26:51on to say, the Church recognizes every form of existing government, for there
- 26:53is nothing in the various forms that contradicts Catholic teachings. Yeah, after communism
- 27:00there was, but communism is founded on atheism, and told people they had
- 27:07to recognize the Communist government is higher than the Church, and if they didn't,
- 27:11they be slaughtered and usually slaughtered him anyway. Hence Leo the thirteenth has
- 27:18frequently enjoyed enjoined on French monarchists to recognize and support the existing republic. Christ
- 27:25himself taught that what was Caesar should be given to Caesar, and of course
- 27:30that was a huge controversy with Napoleon, and Napoleon rebelled against the Church and
- 27:37they didn't end well for Napoleon. The church is in its own department,
- 27:41absolutely independent of the state, for Christ left the teaching and government of his
- 27:45church the apostles and their successors, not to any temporal sovereign. Hence,
- 27:49the state has no legal claim to dictate to Christians what they are to believe
- 27:52and reject, nor to instruct priests what they are to preach, nor how
- 27:57and when they are to give the sacrament same mass, et cetera, which
- 28:00communists you and now Canada does, and the European Union certainly moving in that
- 28:08direction such interference. So is America. Someone told me today, and I
- 28:14don't know if it's true or not, that they were going to pass laws
- 28:18that any Chick fil A attached to a gas station would have to be open
- 28:22on Sunday. That's clear violation of that Protestant company's religious beliefs. We'll see.
- 28:29I hope it's not true. You know, you don't get your chicken
- 28:33sandwich from Chick fil A on Sunday. Get over it, Get a freaking
- 28:36Hamburger. Such interference has always been resented by the Church. Thus Hassius in
- 28:44the Council of Nicea addressed the Roman Emperor when the latter was meddling in the
- 28:48affairs of matters of faith. Here, you have no right to dictate to
- 28:53us. It is rather your duty to follow our commands. The state,
- 28:57too, is in its own affairs independent of the Church. The power of
- 29:00the state, as well that of the Church, can is circumscribed by the
- 29:06limits within which it can work uncontrolled. That's quote from Poplio the thirteenth.
- 29:11There are many points, however, where these limits touch. Hence some mutual
- 29:15agreement is necessary in both sides. If contrary orders were given in the same
- 29:19manner, strife would arise, and the subject would not know where his duty
- 29:23lay. Between the two powers, there should be some such union as there
- 29:29is between the body and soul of man. Agreements between the state and church
- 29:33are frequent occurrence in history. They are called concordance concordats. These are often
- 29:41conspicuous proofs of the tender love of the Church in pushing her mildness and toleration
- 29:47as far as consistent is consistent with her duty. In other words, church
- 29:52compromises, usually more than the state. The Church is an essential factor in
- 29:56promoting the welfare of the state, for she teaches a beating it's to authority,
- 30:00prevents many crimes, incites men to noble endeavor, and unites together various
- 30:04nations. Plutarch speaks of religion forming a better protection for a city than its
- 30:11walls. The Church teaches that the civil authority has its power from God.
- 30:15That's Romans thirteen to one, and that even wicked rulers are to be obeyed.
- 30:19And that's first Peter, but surbayed so long as it doesn't contradict church
- 30:25teaching. So that's something you really have to point out there. We are
- 30:30not required to follow immoral orders or laws. You know, like in the
- 30:37Holocaust when a lot of Germans said we were just following orders when we rounded
- 30:41up the Jews and slaughtered them. No, that was though they should have
- 30:45said, no, we're not going to do that. That was their moral
- 30:48duty. They failed in their moral duty. How many sinners have been rescued
- 30:52by the Church and change into saints and benefactors of mankind. How many have
- 30:56been restrained from crime by the teaching of the Church or God's judgments. How
- 31:02much unjustly acquired property has been restored? And how many enemies reconciled? More
- 31:07than this, the Church teaches that salvation depends on works of mercy and makes
- 31:11a point of duty for her members to assist in their suffering, assists their
- 31:15suffering brethren. How many institutions for orphans for the sick, the blind,
- 31:19deaf, mutes, etc. Owe their foundation to the servants of the Church.
- 31:23Indeed the needy of the Church's first care. Moreover, the Church binds
- 31:27the nation together and bonds of brotherhood, both by a common profession of faith
- 31:32and by the precept of charity. Hence, it is, as far as
- 31:37possible, the priests of the hints. It is that, as far possible,
- 31:41the priests of the Church should keep aloof from all strife between nations.
- 31:45In consequence of all of this, all good rulers and states statesmen has supported
- 31:51the Church to the best of their power. Such was the policy of constanting
- 31:57the Great of Charlemagne, of Saint Stephen King of Hungary, Saint Winceslaus,
- 32:02King of Bohemia, love that name Winceslaus. Rulers who reject the Church saw
- 32:08at the branch which supports them saws and cut the people see them no longer
- 32:15the representatives of God, but merely the elected of the people, removable at
- 32:19the people's will. Exactly, the states which have persecuted the Church have always
- 32:25sooner or later experienced the evil results of so doing. And right now the
- 32:30Church is very persecuted in America, as it is in China, and as
- 32:34it is in Canada and many other places. And I don't think the order
- 32:37as we know it now is it really will be around much longer unless something
- 32:43miraculous change happens. Our Lord's words were very apt. Every kingdom divide against
- 32:50itself should be brought to desolation. Religion is to the state what the soul
- 32:54is to the body. The nation and the kingdom. That will not serve
- 32:58these shall perish. It's from Isaiah. The surest sign of a ruin in
- 33:02a state, right Smackavelli, is when religion is neglected. The fall of
- 33:07the Great Roman Empire and the horrors of the French Revolution may be traced to
- 33:12the same cause. Even Napoleon confessed that no nation could be governed without religion.
- 33:17The absence of religion means the introduction of crime. There is no knowledge
- 33:22of God in the land. Cursing and lying and killing, and theft and
- 33:25adultery have overflowed from Isaiah. I believe our prisons are filled with people,
- 33:31for the most part, neglect religion. And that's a pretty darn good description
- 33:37of America in twenty twenty four. As we've secularized most everything and almost all
- 33:46pretty much all, basically all religious morality has been done away with. We
- 33:52legalized divorce, normalized homosexuality, slaughter, children with impunity left has been legalized,
- 34:00in many cases encouraged. I could go down the list. The Church
- 34:07was from the earliest times the patron of true education and culture. It is
- 34:13to the answer of the Church to promote culture. Ignorance and immorality are usually
- 34:16close companions. The world is a book displaying the wisdom of God. The
- 34:22more we know of this book, the more we shall know of God,
- 34:24and the more we will love. The more will our love for Him be
- 34:29increased. Hence, it is the duty of the Church to encourage scientific research.
- 34:36It was Christianity which tamed the wild nations of Europe, civilizing them and
- 34:39making them the rulers of other peoples. Had the Church been established with the
- 34:44view of ministering to the temporal wants of man, it could not have conferred
- 34:47greater benefits than it has done. Is the judgment of Saint Augustine on the
- 34:52work of the Church. It was the Church which first charged yourself with the
- 34:54education of the young, and founded the first schools, the schools of the
- 34:59Monastery, Cathedral and perish in the time of Charlemagne owe their origin to the
- 35:04Church. Most of the universities of their existence to the Pope. Whole orders
- 35:07of religious such as Benedictines, Jesuits, Christian Brothers and others, devoted themselves
- 35:14to the education of the youth. The success of the Jesuits was acknowledged even
- 35:19by their enemies, and in spite of their suppression in seventeen seventy three Frederick
- 35:23of Prussia and Catherine of Russia, neither of them Catholics, retained them to
- 35:29instruct the youth of their kingdoms. It was the Church which rescued the works
- 35:35of antiquity from destruction. The monks of the Middle Ages transcribed the works of
- 35:38heathen philosophers and historians, thus preserving them to the posterity. The great libraries
- 35:45of the monasteries, as well as the museums and libraries of the popes,
- 35:47preserved many treasures. We might remark too, that the Benedictines have produced sixteen
- 35:53thousand authors, and the Jesuits, in their comparatively short existence twelve thousand.
- 36:00It's incredible. It was the Church which from early times raised the noblest buildings,
- 36:05such structures, for instance, as Saint Peter's in Rome, which was
- 36:08one hundred and ten years in building took one hundred and ten years to build,
- 36:14or the Cathedral Cologne, begun in twelve forty nine and finished in eighteen
- 36:17eighty. Not to mention the glorious structures to be seen all over the continent
- 36:22in Germany, France, Spain, and Italy. England is filled with magnificent
- 36:25buildings like Westminster, Lincoln, York, Durham, et cetera. Those were
- 36:30Catholic churches. That large prest portion of the finest edifices in the United States
- 36:37are Catholic church. I remember one time someone said, why are all the
- 36:39Catholic churches in England so ugly and the Anglican Church is so beautiful, And
- 36:45the person matters like, well, that's because they were all originally Catholic churches
- 36:50that were confiscated by the Anglican churches. It was a church which from the
- 36:54earliest time gave the greatest encouragement to the fine arts. We owe plane Chance
- 37:00Gregorian chant to Saint Ambrose, Bishop of Milan three ninety seven a d.
- 37:05Saint Gregory the Great six o four, and its developments to many other artists.
- 37:09It was the pope who encouraged men like Palestrina in fifteen ninety four.
- 37:15Twice in its history of the church resisted the iconoclass or image breaking movement,
- 37:20at Nicea in seven a seven at Trent in fifteen sixty three. Artists of
- 37:23worldwide fames such as Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael Michaelangelo, Carraggio, Canova,
- 37:30et Cetera, Correggio, Sorry Kronove, et cetera. Owed much of their
- 37:36success to the support of popes. It was the cloister which produced some of
- 37:39the finest artists in their works. It was the Church which made whole tracts
- 37:44of land fertile and habitable. The work of the Benedictines and Cistercians in way
- 37:47of clearing and draining land and developing agriculture, was especially conspicuous in the German
- 37:53forests. The same work has carried on in Savage countries now by Trappists and
- 37:58other orders. It is to pre some monks that we owe some of the
- 38:04greatest discoveries. The deacon Flavio i guess georg Giosia Gioja discovered the magnet and
- 38:13compass in thirteen hundred. Vite a monk in Areso, Areso I don't know,
- 38:19discovered the scale, the rules of music and harmony, The Dominican Spina,
- 38:22the use of spectacles, the Franciscan bertheled Schwartz. Gunpowder. Yes,
- 38:29gunpowder was invented by a Catholic monk, believe it or not, in thirteen
- 38:31hundred. Well, okay, it existed earlier in China. He figured out
- 38:37how to actually use his gunpowder. The Jesuit Kircher exhibited the first burning glass
- 38:45in sixteen forty six. I guess he means like a magnifying glass, you
- 38:50know, the way it can concentrate sunlight and make a flame. Copernicus canon
- 38:53of Froudberg discovered his famous system in fifteen oh seven. The ju A Cavalieri
- 39:00the components of white light in sixteen forty seven. The Spanish bigteen Conscious invented
- 39:07a method of teaching death mutes in fifteen seventy. The Jesuit Lana, a
- 39:10way of teaching the blind to read in sixteen eighty seven, and the Jesuit
- 39:14Secchi in eighteen seventy eight made many discoveries with regard to sunspots. Only lately
- 39:20the Dominican Calandoni invented a typesetter to replace the compositor. In other words,
- 39:27the beginnings of the typewriter. The enemies of the church are always airing or
- 39:31is crying her down as opposed to progress, enlightenment, and freedom, and
- 39:37it's absolutely not true. I would also add that it was the Jesuits who
- 39:39discovered quinine in Peru, and these days they don't seem to be up to
- 39:46much good, but at one time they were one of the greatest religious orders
- 39:51of the Church, and God willing they will reform quickly. Maybe the only
- 39:55hope for our nation is if the Jesuits become a forced for good instead of
- 40:00confusion. All Right, I'm gonna wrap it up there. I guess it's
- 40:07kind of been a mixed bag, hasn't it. I got a lot of
- 40:09concerns these days with what's going on in culture and society, and I'm not
- 40:13going to try to pretend I don't. But as I always say, we
- 40:16know how the story ends. Everybody running around a couple of weeks ago saying
- 40:21the eclipse was a sign of the end of the world. I'm like,
- 40:24no, no, it's just an astrological event. Don't buy into that.
- 40:28But it's definitely true that things have gotten a whole lot worse in the past
- 40:36century than they were the previous centuries. Under Christendom, under the rule of
- 40:42the Catholic Church, we had relative peace and prosperity for well over a thousand
- 40:50years fifteen hundred years, and then the religious wars began, really in Germany
- 40:55and such with Luther and then the divisions with the Anglicans and the English Empire
- 41:05enslaving the Irish and importing opium into China to try to take over China and
- 41:14really being pretty barbaric in Africa and India. Things started falling down. I
- 41:22mean, slavery was on its way out until the rise of the secular nation
- 41:28state that said it did not have to listen to the church. The Church
- 41:32was opposed to slavery. And then we get to the revolutions in France,
- 41:37when America and France, and then the Bolsheviks and more. You look at
- 41:45it, you do see the hand of the Masonic Order very much in all
- 41:51of this. But things really deteriorated dramatically in the nineteen hundreds of the World
- 41:57Wars and the Holocaust and the genocides in Ukraine and Russia, and abortion,
- 42:05legalized abortion on demand, homosexuality, normalized, just trans stuff, and now
- 42:13AI looming, and really the Muslim Brotherhood really rear in its head. Really,
- 42:22you know, I could go on, but we know how the story
- 42:28ends. The thing is, the end may be a very long way away.
- 42:31I always try to explain to people that are so sure this is the
- 42:35end of the world, the apocalypse is any day. In the Bible,
- 42:37we've seen many patterns. Remember I was talking about the types and the Old
- 42:40Testament that foreshadow of the New You know, God made the world in seven
- 42:44days, well, six days he rested on the Sabbath, right, He
- 42:51says in the Bible one day to God, this is a thousand years,
- 42:53and a thousand years is this one day? Well, you could make a
- 43:00very strong case that the new world following the resurrection of Jesus would come into
- 43:09like a six or seven day model, which would actually be six or seven
- 43:15thousand years. If that be the case, we're barely through the second day.
- 43:25This little world very likely has another you know, four or five thousand
- 43:31years to go in which things are only going to get worse. So take
- 43:38heart, the end is not near, and they're not as bad as things
- 43:42aren't as bad as they're going to get you. Everything goes in cycles.
- 43:47Generally, humanity works in forty year cycles. You go forty years toward the
- 43:52bad, then there's a pause. You never know exactly how long that pause
- 43:54is going to be. You know, it's like a pendulum swings to one
- 43:58side and it kind of pauses, then has a forty years swing back the
- 44:01other way. We are very much do the swing back the other way.
- 44:07God willing that will happen soon. I am hoping pray Donald Trump is elected
- 44:10and Biden is gone and his whole family prosecuted for their corruption. And I
- 44:17hope Trudeau's gone, and I can go down the list Macron and Putin certainly,
- 44:22and you know, I can go down the list of just horribly evil
- 44:27people that are running this country. And no, Donald Trump's no choir boy.
- 44:30He's not a saint. But remember God uses very flawed people for his
- 44:36purposes. And he got rid of rov Wade, which is something no supposedly
- 44:42pious religious Republican who promised it has ever done. The Bushes sure didn't do
- 44:47it. They didn't even try. Nixon didn't do it. Even Reagan,
- 44:52as good a man as wrong, and Reagan was, he didn't do it,
- 44:55you know. So anyway, the words of Saint Padre Pio, pray,
- 45:01hope and don't worry and y'all I will talk to you next time.
- 45:05Have a good one.
