Latest / Foul Territory / Robert Murray’s early trade talk rumblings + Pujols reveals Marlins pursuit, Trout’s no-trade
Transcript
- 0:10Speaker 1: That intro makes me excited because Robert Murray is going
- 0:12Speaker 1: to start appearing more on FT again as we get
- 0:15Speaker 1: closer to trade season, and we already had one several
- 0:18Speaker 1: days ago that had a lot of attention on this show.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Robert Murray back with US fan sided insider, FT Insider Robert,
- 0:24Speaker 1: Good to see you.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Let's start with the Braves. I mean, they're I.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Don't want to say surprising everyone because they've got a
- 0:30Speaker 1: lot of good players, but I think some of the
- 0:32Speaker 1: additions they made in the offseason have definitely helped that
- 0:35Speaker 1: cause and been underrated. So thoughts on what they've done
- 0:38Speaker 1: and crafted, but then also if you can mix into
- 0:40Speaker 1: your answer what you think they will do to try
- 0:43Speaker 1: and even you top that at the trade deadline or
- 0:45Speaker 1: close to it.
- 0:47Speaker 3: No, for sure, I appreciate you boys have me as always,
- 0:50Speaker 3: But the Atlanta Braves, like you talk about them, you
- 0:53Speaker 3: always think about Matt Olson, Austin Riley, Asie Albi's Michael
- 0:56Speaker 3: Harris the second like guys like that. But they've really
- 1:00Speaker 3: had some different players who they ended up adding in
- 1:02Speaker 3: the offseason, kind of some under the radar guys Mauricio
- 1:05Speaker 3: Dubon and then also Dom Smith Dubon was acquired from
- 1:08Speaker 3: the Houston Astros. They got him and they tried actually
- 1:12Speaker 3: getting him at last year's trade deadline, but they valued him.
- 1:15Speaker 3: They thought he was a perfect fit for their clubhouse,
- 1:18Speaker 3: but also a guy that like his versatility infield outfield,
- 1:21Speaker 3: he can play a bunch of different positions. He's been
- 1:23Speaker 3: wonderful for them this season. He looks like a real
- 1:25Speaker 3: guy that they can build around. And he's only signed
- 1:29Speaker 3: for about five or six million, so that's relatively cheap.
- 1:32Speaker 3: But then Dom Smith too, he is a guy who
- 1:35Speaker 3: is He got a bunch of minor league interests this offseason,
- 1:38Speaker 3: but the Braves really saw an opportunity for him in
- 1:41Speaker 3: his left handed bat to really make an impact into
- 1:44Speaker 3: that lineup. And we've seen him at some pretty clutch homers.
- 1:47Speaker 3: He had a walk off Grand Slam to start the season.
- 1:49Speaker 3: And they seem like a team that absolutely can make
- 1:52Speaker 3: some noise here in the National League. They look totally
- 1:55Speaker 3: totally legitimate. But if I was Alexanthopolis, I would go
- 1:59Speaker 3: out and I would a starting pitcher at the deadline,
- 2:01Speaker 3: And it seems like it's gonna be a pretty common
- 2:03Speaker 3: theme for a bunch of these different contending teams, and
- 2:05Speaker 3: I think the Braves really stand out as a team
- 2:08Speaker 3: that could use some pitching reinforcements. They've had some guys
- 2:10Speaker 3: really step up in the wake of some absences here.
- 2:13Speaker 3: Bryce Elder is one who really stood out. So they
- 2:16Speaker 3: seem like a team that and compete with the Dodgers.
- 2:19Speaker 3: They seem like a team that seems legit. And if
- 2:21Speaker 3: they added the deadline, that's just going to further bolster
- 2:24Speaker 3: their case to possibly represent the National League in the
- 2:26Speaker 3: World Series.
- 2:28Speaker 4: Robert the bullpen is for me, is the thing that's
- 2:31Speaker 4: been great for the Braves.
- 2:32Speaker 3: Just a starting pitcher.
- 2:33Speaker 4: But Iglesias hasn't given up a roam. Suarez has been
- 2:35Speaker 4: nasty bummer Lee. This bullpen has been disgusting. So not
- 2:40Speaker 4: only do you have to get through Chris Slee and
- 2:43Speaker 4: Elder and the rest of Lopez and the rest of
- 2:45Speaker 4: these guys, then if they have a lead, the game
- 2:47Speaker 4: is over.
- 2:49Speaker 3: No, totally. And that's exactly what they ended up having
- 2:51Speaker 3: in mind with Robert Suarez when they got him in
- 2:53Speaker 3: the off season. It wasn't like the most glaring need
- 2:56Speaker 3: that they ended up having. Like I remember when it
- 2:59Speaker 3: came down to to the end, for Robert Soarez, there
- 3:01Speaker 3: was a bunch of different teams. You heard about the Mets,
- 3:04Speaker 3: you heard about the Blue Jays being involved in. I
- 3:06Speaker 3: thought he may end up going to one of those
- 3:08Speaker 3: two teams, but the Braves swooped in and ended up
- 3:10Speaker 3: getting him. They gave him a three year contract and
- 3:13Speaker 3: they look extremely smart for doing so. And when you
- 3:16Speaker 3: can have those talented players on offense, and then also
- 3:20Speaker 3: let's say you hand the ball to Chris Sale or
- 3:22Speaker 3: one of those guys, and then, as you said, you
- 3:24Speaker 3: turn to the bullpen where you got Suarez, Bummer, Iglesias,
- 3:27Speaker 3: all those guys. It's the recipe for a really strong,
- 3:31Speaker 3: sustainable team. And that's why I'm buying stock in the
- 3:33Speaker 3: Braves and why I really believe in him at the
- 3:35Speaker 3: moment you talk about the trade deadline.
- 3:38Speaker 5: Alix Anthopolis's m when he was with the JS, he
- 3:42Speaker 5: made some massive moves. He you know, he got the whole,
- 3:45Speaker 5: He got Josh Donaldson, he went out and got you know,
- 3:48Speaker 5: made made moves that were like okay. But he's since
- 3:51Speaker 5: come out and been like okay, I really understand as
- 3:53Speaker 5: some of the early moves I made as a GM
- 3:55Speaker 5: didn't really help our clubhouse. Now since he's been with
- 3:58Speaker 5: the Braves, has he made a big trade deadline acquisition,
- 4:01Speaker 5: because you're gonna be on here talking, oh man, the
- 4:04Speaker 5: Brave should get Freddy Peralta. You know this team's out.
- 4:07Speaker 5: If if this team loses in the next three days,
- 4:09Speaker 5: so and so might be available. Has he really been
- 4:13Speaker 5: a GM at the trade deadline that's made massive moves
- 4:16Speaker 5: or everybody just remembers two thousand and one moves where
- 4:19Speaker 5: he kind of just supplemented their outfield with Duval and
- 4:26Speaker 5: I'm forgetting who else the left, Eddie Roario, Jeck Peterson,
- 4:31Speaker 5: like more like more small moves that worked out. Is
- 4:35Speaker 5: he a GM that could make a massive trade deadline move?
- 4:40Speaker 3: I see no reason why he shouldn't consider it like
- 4:43Speaker 3: he's he's done big trades in the past, Like it
- 4:46Speaker 3: hasn't necessarily been at the deadline. Chris Sale was a
- 4:48Speaker 3: big offseason move. So I don't think he's necessarily like
- 4:52Speaker 3: a verse or like or against doing something like that.
- 4:56Speaker 3: But you're right, he has found value on the margins
- 4:58Speaker 3: where Jack Peterson, Solaire, Eddie Rosario, those guys when they
- 5:02Speaker 3: ended up making it to the World Series, really ended
- 5:04Speaker 3: up like stepping up and help contribute to that team.
- 5:07Speaker 3: So I could see him doing something quite like that.
- 5:10Speaker 3: But there's also going to be a bunch of different
- 5:13Speaker 3: guys who are to be available or possibly available at
- 5:15Speaker 3: the deadline. You mentioned Freddy Peralta. Have a hard time
- 5:18Speaker 3: seeing the Mets trade him to a division team. I
- 5:21Speaker 3: have a hard time even seeing the Mets selling at
- 5:23Speaker 3: this point. You could see the Giants possibly move one
- 5:26Speaker 3: of their guys Robbie Ray. Joe Ryan is someone who's
- 5:30Speaker 3: probably gonna be asked about plenty of the deadline, and
- 5:32Speaker 3: thankfully his injury is not overly serious, so there's a
- 5:34Speaker 3: bunch of different ways that he can go about addressing
- 5:37Speaker 3: this team. But I really don't If I was Anthopless,
- 5:42Speaker 3: I would possibly think about swinging big because this seems
- 5:45Speaker 3: like a team that can really makes some noise here
- 5:47Speaker 3: in that now.
- 5:50Speaker 6: Cratzy, real simple man, When you're looking for the best

- 6:02Speaker 5: I gotta sit at a certain spot. I want to
- 6:04Speaker 5: be able to see a whole field. I don't need
- 6:06Speaker 5: to be close to the field, gotta be a little
- 6:08Speaker 5: higher out of the sun.
- 6:09Speaker 2: I'm bougie that way.
- 6:11Speaker 6: Of course you are. And guess what, you have a

- 6:52Speaker 4: I know you're a Cup fan, so I understand. God,
- 6:56Speaker 4: you're all high on the Cubs and you're all high
- 6:58Speaker 4: and mighty and they need rotation help and you think
- 7:01Speaker 4: that they can be the greatest team ever. But this
- 7:04Speaker 4: weekend is the Crosstown Series. White Sox versus the Cubs. Okay,
- 7:10Speaker 4: is this the most exciting Cubs White Sox series in
- 7:14Speaker 4: forever that I can remember? Because both teams are actually trying?
- 7:17Speaker 4: And what do the White Sox need to do to
- 7:20Speaker 4: continue this run? Will they add? Possibly? And then what
- 7:23Speaker 4: do the Cubs need to do to continue because they've
- 7:25Speaker 4: been hot other than when the Braves of what their
- 7:27Speaker 4: ass last two days?
- 7:29Speaker 2: Wait?
- 7:29Speaker 3: First of all, last time I was on the show,
- 7:31Speaker 3: you excuse me of being a Pirates fan, So I
- 7:33Speaker 3: guess I want to bits of the NL Central down
- 7:35Speaker 3: I grew up in.
- 7:36Speaker 4: When you live in you live in Milwaukee, so you
- 7:38Speaker 4: got you know, you're like crats, you have like five
- 7:40Speaker 4: teams before.
- 7:42Speaker 3: No, I mean, hey, you know, I mean you're always happy.
- 7:44Speaker 3: I mean, I guess you're always sad at the same time,
- 7:45Speaker 3: but glass half fall, you're always happy, I suppose. But anyways,
- 7:49Speaker 3: going back to the Cubs and White Sox here, I
- 7:52Speaker 3: like the Cubs they were like in previous years. I've
- 7:54Speaker 3: been skeptical or skeptical about their chances in the NL Central.
- 7:57Speaker 3: I've always thought the Brewers were the team to beat,
- 8:00Speaker 3: and they still seem like a pretty formidable opponent. For sure.
- 8:03Speaker 3: But the Cubs this year just really look like a
- 8:05Speaker 3: team that's also capable of making some noise there. And
- 8:09Speaker 3: you look at that team, I thought Lucas Giulito was
- 8:12Speaker 3: a perfect fit for them, but they wanted to stick
- 8:14Speaker 3: with their internal options, like considering all their different injuries
- 8:17Speaker 3: in the pitching side. They would let it play out
- 8:19Speaker 3: some more. They're going to continue to let this thing
- 8:21Speaker 3: play out. But at the deadline, if you can swing big,
- 8:24Speaker 3: if you're the Chicago Cubs, I absolutely would do so.
- 8:27Speaker 3: And Freddie Peralta is a guy who has a ton
- 8:30Speaker 3: of familiarity with Craig Console. Again, I'm skeptical about the
- 8:33Speaker 3: Mets even selling and I have a hard time seeing
- 8:36Speaker 3: the move Peralta, but just throwing his name out there.
- 8:38Speaker 3: But if you can go out there and get a
- 8:40Speaker 3: big name starting pitcher, I think that would really help
- 8:44Speaker 3: their case and further separate them from the Brewers. As
- 8:47Speaker 3: far as the White Sox go, they are a team
- 8:50Speaker 3: that I don't think they're ready for contending quite yet,
- 8:53Speaker 3: but they're super like. They're exciting, they're fun to watch
- 8:56Speaker 3: play baseball, and we haven't been able to say that
- 8:58Speaker 3: in recent years, and I think Chris Gets deserves a
- 9:00Speaker 3: ton of credit for what he's built there, and getting
- 9:03Speaker 3: Mirakami on a two year, for thirty four million dollar
- 9:05Speaker 3: contract looks like a stroke a genius. Like there was
- 9:08Speaker 3: talk obviously last obvious season about him possibly getting two
- 9:10Speaker 3: hundred million, and the fact they got in for that
- 9:12Speaker 3: little is a really strong investment by them. And they
- 9:15Speaker 3: got some of these young players as well. If you
- 9:17Speaker 3: can continue to build around those guys, and maybe if
- 9:20Speaker 3: you can add somebody at the deadline who's controllable, I
- 9:23Speaker 3: think that'd be a really smart move for them. But
- 9:25Speaker 3: staying the course, staying with this vision and building this thing,
- 9:29Speaker 3: because as I said, it's not probably not this year,
- 9:31Speaker 3: it might not even be next year, but they are
- 9:34Speaker 3: definitely a team that's on the rise. And I do
- 9:37Speaker 3: think it's one of the more exciting recent series between
- 9:41Speaker 3: these two teams in quite some time because they're both
- 9:43Speaker 3: on the up and up, and I think that's a
- 9:45Speaker 3: really good thing for baseball.
- 9:48Speaker 5: Are the pieces fitting in line for the Cardinals to
- 9:51Speaker 5: extend somebody like Jordan Walker? This is one year off
- 9:54Speaker 5: of everything that you know, they finally are getting rid
- 9:58Speaker 5: of Nolan Aeronado. They got rid of Sunny when they
- 10:00Speaker 5: wanted to get rid of the year before. Now the
- 10:02Speaker 5: new gm heim Bloom, who even in Boston wasn't given
- 10:05Speaker 5: the privy to give out an extension until the whole
- 10:09Speaker 5: Devers thing was like, oh crap, John Henry's like, we
- 10:12Speaker 5: got to pay somebody. So do you feel like things
- 10:15Speaker 5: are aligning for it, because at the end of this year,
- 10:18Speaker 5: Jordan Walker's already got three years in the show. All
- 10:21Speaker 5: of a sudden, he's just three years away from herbart
- 10:23Speaker 5: from free agency. This extension is going to be historic
- 10:27Speaker 5: if they do it.
- 10:28Speaker 3: No, totally, and it's something like for most of the
- 10:31Speaker 3: offseason we ended up hearing about JJ Weatherholt as a
- 10:34Speaker 3: guy who could be extended there. But Walker's really burst
- 10:36Speaker 3: down to the scene here is ops has like jumped
- 10:39Speaker 3: up significantly from last year. And he's a former first rounder,
- 10:42Speaker 3: former top ten prospect, so it's always been in there,
- 10:45Speaker 3: but it took him a little bit of time to
- 10:46Speaker 3: get comfortable at the major league level and he's really
- 10:48Speaker 3: settled in and you can see his numbers there. He's
- 10:50Speaker 3: been a totally different player. The strikeouts obviously, like got
- 10:54Speaker 3: to work on that, but still he is a player
- 10:56Speaker 3: who is on the ascent, who they believe that can
- 10:59Speaker 3: be a building lock for them, And if you can
- 11:01Speaker 3: maybe extend weather holds, that's would be great. But Walker here,
- 11:05Speaker 3: if I was if I was the Cardinals, he would
- 11:07Speaker 3: be a priority for me if you can. There's a
- 11:10Speaker 3: couple of different ways that can go about this thing too.
- 11:12Speaker 3: If they want to do like a shorter term deal,
- 11:14Speaker 3: you can look at like the Pete Carl Armstrong kind
- 11:16Speaker 3: of kind of structure. I think that would make some sense.
- 11:19Speaker 3: But if they want to go a longer term where
- 11:21Speaker 3: it really ensures that he's going to be in Saint
- 11:23Speaker 3: Louis for the majority of his career, I think the
- 11:24Speaker 3: Austin Rally comp is a really good one. It's around
- 11:27Speaker 3: the same age from when Rally signed his around I
- 11:30Speaker 3: want to say, pretty close to the same amount of
- 11:32Speaker 3: service time. I think it would make a lot of
- 11:35Speaker 3: sense for them to consider. And the way that he's
- 11:36Speaker 3: playing right now, obviously like it's he's still young, he's
- 11:40Speaker 3: still growing. But if it continues this way, the price
- 11:43Speaker 3: is only going to go up, So I think it
- 11:45Speaker 3: would be smart for the front office to consider it.
- 11:46Speaker 2: For sure.
- 11:48Speaker 5: Do you think anybody outside of the National League East
- 11:50Speaker 5: or Washington National fans in general know who Foster Griffin
- 11:54Speaker 5: is before this season.
- 11:58Speaker 3: I'll tell if they read my story ID an exclusive
- 12:00Speaker 3: in interview with Foster as he was coming over from overseas,
- 12:04Speaker 3: so you would you would have known for sure. So's
- 12:08Speaker 3: it's good seeing him burst down to the scene here
- 12:10Speaker 3: like this is. He looks like a totally different picture
- 12:13Speaker 3: from what he was here before. And he's been He's
- 12:17Speaker 3: been incredible for that. He's been probably one of the
- 12:19Speaker 3: best value signings, if not the best value signing of
- 12:21Speaker 3: the entire offseason. One year for five point five million.
- 12:24Speaker 3: There was a he got interest from a couple of
- 12:26Speaker 3: different teams or a few different teams, I should say,
- 12:29Speaker 3: but bet on himself with that one year contract, and
- 12:31Speaker 3: I believe that was the first signing of the Paul
- 12:33Speaker 3: tabony ero. So between that and also the early results
- 12:37Speaker 3: here from the from the Mackenzie Gore trade, it looks
- 12:40Speaker 3: like a pretty good start to the Paul to bony
- 12:42Speaker 3: tenure in Washington for.
- 12:43Speaker 1: Sure, Robert, anything else we're missing on the trade front,
- 12:50Speaker 1: I know it's early. I get excited. I'm sorry, I
- 12:51Speaker 1: can't help myself. And I know you've started to float
- 12:54Speaker 1: some notes out there. I think one of the articles
- 12:56Speaker 1: was focused on that. So anything you're really feeling confident
- 13:00Speaker 1: about as a key discussion point come trade deadline time.
- 13:03Speaker 1: Because for now, it's like, cool, we can have a
- 13:06Speaker 1: fun combo about Mets starters that could be available if
- 13:09Speaker 1: they continue to stink, some Giant starters, maybe Sandiel Contre
- 13:13Speaker 1: if the Marlins aren't in it. But anything you feel
- 13:16Speaker 1: really good about as a name that's going to get
- 13:18Speaker 1: talked about a ton in a month from now.
- 13:21Speaker 3: Yeah, I'll say this going back to the Giants because
- 13:24Speaker 3: I've seen a bunch of different Internet smoke about this
- 13:27Speaker 3: is after the Patrick Bailey trade. Like the first thought
- 13:30Speaker 3: that I had is like, oh, what could be next year?
- 13:32Speaker 3: Is this could be the start of a fire sale
- 13:34Speaker 3: for the Giants, And as of this point, I don't
- 13:38Speaker 3: see that happening. And Raphael Devers, William Doomas, Matt Chapman,
- 13:43Speaker 3: the Giants have not internally discussed trading any of those players.
- 13:46Speaker 3: They want to continue to build around them, and they
- 13:49Speaker 3: want to continue to try to compete this season, and
- 13:51Speaker 3: they believe that those players can be meaningfully better, like
- 13:53Speaker 3: Devers has been much better in the month of May.
- 13:56Speaker 3: He looks like a totally different player. I know what
- 13:58Speaker 3: happened with William Dommas yesterday on the base as that
- 14:01Speaker 3: was not a good look and he owned up to
- 14:03Speaker 3: it after the game. But they still want to compete
- 14:06Speaker 3: this season and that means keeping all three of those guys.
- 14:09Speaker 3: If they do sell, I would look at Robbie ray A,
- 14:12Speaker 3: Tyler Mallley. Maybe if Harrison Bader stays healthy and performs
- 14:16Speaker 3: better offensively, he could draw some interest, but I don't
- 14:18Speaker 3: expect it to be anything remotely crazy as far as
- 14:21Speaker 3: the Giants go here. But another name that I expect
- 14:25Speaker 3: again this is going back to the Mets, and I
- 14:27Speaker 3: mentioned Freddie Perrault as a guy that is probably going
- 14:30Speaker 3: to get interest. And the other one that I think
- 14:32Speaker 3: with the Mets is going to draw plenty of interest
- 14:34Speaker 3: here is going to be Clay Home and he is.
- 14:37Speaker 3: He's been phenomenal this season. He obviously has extensive history
- 14:40Speaker 3: in the in the bullpen, but the rotation, he looks
- 14:44Speaker 3: like an all Star caliber player and he's got the ability.
- 14:47Speaker 3: I think he's got an option for next season. At
- 14:49Speaker 3: this point, he looks pretty likely to decline it and
- 14:51Speaker 3: become a free agent, but I would expect a lot
- 14:54Speaker 3: of teams to call about him. There is this trademarkets
- 14:57Speaker 3: still forming, It's still teams are gonna be waiting quite
- 15:01Speaker 3: a bit here until they make some final decisions. But
- 15:03Speaker 3: I would expect if the Mets struggles continue, for them
- 15:07Speaker 3: to get plenty of calls about both Parlta and Clay Holmes.
- 15:10Speaker 3: But as at this point, I just don't see either
- 15:11Speaker 3: of them going quite yet.
- 15:14Speaker 4: Robert, you mentioned you recently wrote about the CBA negotiations
- 15:18Speaker 4: that started.
- 15:19Speaker 3: Does this mean there's hope or does.
- 15:20Speaker 4: This mean it's just eyewash and we're gonna we're gonna
- 15:23Speaker 4: hear about them starting to talk, but it's really not
- 15:25Speaker 4: going anywhere.
- 15:27Speaker 3: Yeah, it feels kind of like eyewa. I don't think.
- 15:29Speaker 3: I don't think this is going to go anywhere at
- 15:31Speaker 3: this point. And my guess is we see very little
- 15:34Speaker 3: if any movement during the regular season, and then eventually
- 15:38Speaker 3: a lockout is going to happen, and then at that
- 15:41Speaker 3: point it's a matter of who moves first. But often
- 15:44Speaker 3: deadlines spur action, and that's what I would expect. Once
- 15:48Speaker 3: there's a potential threat of missing games, I would expect
- 15:51Speaker 3: both sides to come together and try to reach an
- 15:53Speaker 3: agreement here because at the end of the day, like
- 15:56Speaker 3: both sides will want to get paid, They will want
- 15:58Speaker 3: their money, and I can't see them having like a
- 16:03Speaker 3: real threat of missing significant games or any games, because yeah,
- 16:07Speaker 3: there's a bunch of different issues that are gonna end
- 16:09Speaker 3: up coming up here, and the salary cap is gonna
- 16:11Speaker 3: be the top issue. There's gonna be a bunch of
- 16:13Speaker 3: others here as well. But who budges first on the
- 16:17Speaker 3: salary cap because the owners are going to push for it,
- 16:19Speaker 3: the players are against it. And when I was talking
- 16:22Speaker 3: to Brent Soudor about it, he seemed like he was
- 16:24Speaker 3: very much against it, and it seems like most, if
- 16:27Speaker 3: not all, of the players are feeling that same way.
- 16:30Speaker 1: They're gonna start budging on like March twentieth. Both sides.
- 16:33Speaker 1: They're gonna be like, yeah, we're gonna play a full season.
- 16:36Speaker 1: We might have to start a few days late, but
- 16:37Speaker 1: we're gonna do one sixty two because the media deals
- 16:39Speaker 1: are the biggest thing, and that's a couple of years
- 16:41Speaker 1: later and nobody wants to lose on on that. So
- 16:43Speaker 1: your spring training plans might have to get adjusted, But
- 16:46Speaker 1: you know, I'm just trying to fast forward through all
- 16:48Speaker 1: of the fun that we're going to have covering this thing.
- 16:50Speaker 1: But in the meantime, trades are fun. Robert great, catching
- 16:53Speaker 1: up with you, dude. Appreciate you.
- 16:54Speaker 2: Looking forward to a lot more combos leading up to
- 16:56Speaker 2: the deadline too.
- 16:58Speaker 3: No, for sure, I appreciate you boys. Having good rest
- 17:00Speaker 3: of your day, and thank you guys. I appreciate you.
- 17:11Speaker 7: But if something interesting comes across my phone, I'm going
- 17:14Speaker 7: to present it and don't blame me. It's just my
- 17:16Speaker 7: phone and a for Cocta Brown check mark. And I
- 17:19Speaker 7: use the term lightly source, it's really not. It's just
- 17:22Speaker 7: someone who heard something. Don't be surprised if we wind up.
- 17:25Speaker 7: If we end up with Mike Trout, great source. He's
- 17:27Speaker 7: one hundred years old, but they think he's a better
- 17:30Speaker 7: leader than Bregman and we'll hit a bunch of home
- 17:32Speaker 7: runs at Fenway Park and La likes Duran and bail.
- 17:35Speaker 2: It cross my mind, would you put it.
- 17:37Speaker 7: Past John Henry to be reactionary and reach for a
- 17:42Speaker 7: move to try and regain the narrative. He would do
- 17:46Speaker 7: it because it's so reactionary and it just sort of
- 17:51Speaker 7: feels as off the wall as trading Raffie Devers in
- 17:54Speaker 7: the first place, and kind of a reaction at this
- 17:57Speaker 7: point of the season. Listen, it's my responsibility to present
- 18:02Speaker 7: for Cockta things that come across my phone. If it happens,
- 18:05Speaker 7: you can you can thank me.
- 18:08Speaker 2: It's Mike Felder, radio host up in Boston.
- 18:10Speaker 4: Some just came across my phone. A source told me
- 18:14Speaker 4: it's mean to use the word for Mike Trutwice. He
- 18:17Speaker 4: likes Ficashia bread. Yeah, because Mike Trout is going to
- 18:21Speaker 4: the Marlins. You heard it here from a source.
- 18:24Speaker 2: Also, Mike Trott has a full note trade clause.
- 18:27Speaker 4: He's not going to Boston. And for Brian Bao and
- 18:30Speaker 4: Jared Duran.
- 18:33Speaker 2: Mike Trout's not going to approve a trade to Boston.
- 18:36Speaker 5: Now and he costs money.
- 18:39Speaker 1: Will he ever get traded? I think there's a chance
- 18:41Speaker 1: that at some point it works out. Like I think
- 18:44Speaker 1: the people that just completely dispel it are a little
- 18:47Speaker 1: bit delirious. But it has to be like very very many.
- 18:51Speaker 4: It would have to be safe, it would have to
- 18:53Speaker 4: almost be Philly. Yeah, but he also wants to go
- 18:56Speaker 4: somewhere where they really have a chance to win.
- 18:58Speaker 2: Philly has a chance to win.
- 18:59Speaker 8: I agreed, but Boston doesn't right now with the career
- 19:03Speaker 8: set up. And also it's he's a better leader than Bregman.
- 19:08Speaker 8: I love Mike Trout. I haven't heard that.
- 19:11Speaker 2: These guys are essentially just taking callers and then.
- 19:13Speaker 4: Krat Have you heard that about Mike Troue. I mean,
- 19:15Speaker 4: I've heard Mike Trout's awesome. I've been around him a little,
- 19:18Speaker 4: very little. He's awesome. He's one of the But I
- 19:22Speaker 4: haven't heard of him being like Bregman.
- 19:24Speaker 1: I mean like that getting everybody's scouting report and then
- 19:28Speaker 1: calling them and going over everything and being like, here's
- 19:30Speaker 1: what I saw on the other side, Like Bregman's a coach.
- 19:33Speaker 1: Trott's not a coach, He's a player, like very good player.
- 19:36Speaker 1: Bregman's a player coach. Do you agree, Like there's a
- 19:38Speaker 1: few guys like that where he's like, no, I'm actually
- 19:40Speaker 1: gonna be a part of the staff.
- 19:42Speaker 4: Do you think Korea got his because he Korea is
- 19:45Speaker 4: almost like a GM coach player.
- 19:47Speaker 2: Yes.
- 19:48Speaker 3: Do you think he got that from Bregman.
- 19:49Speaker 2: A little bit? Yeah? I think he saw that.
- 19:53Speaker 5: I don't know when I played with Korea in sixteen
- 19:57Speaker 5: at the beginning of the year. He was already he
- 20:00Speaker 5: was already like real mature for his age. I think
- 20:03Speaker 5: he might have been twenty two at the time. I
- 20:06Speaker 5: can look it up while I'm chatting chatting here, but yeah,
- 20:10Speaker 5: he was already young, did he I mean, did they
- 20:13Speaker 5: learn together? Absolutely, learn together. But at that point Bregman
- 20:16Speaker 5: wasn't up yet. But I remember I was doing like
- 20:18Speaker 5: a I was doing, so he was twenty one at
- 20:20Speaker 5: that time, and I remember thinking, this is a really
- 20:23Speaker 5: mature twenty one year old. Like I was doing like
- 20:25Speaker 5: an exercise, doing my med ball routine in the gym,
- 20:29Speaker 5: in the weight room, and he comes in. He looks
- 20:30Speaker 5: at me, He's like, why do you do that? What
- 20:34Speaker 5: are you looking for? What's the He's always he's very inquisitive,
- 20:37Speaker 5: very I mean, you listen to back in the day
- 20:40Speaker 5: one of our first interviews here, Like he cares about
- 20:43Speaker 5: the process, and he cares about his career, and he's
- 20:46Speaker 5: always looking for something. So I don't know, I don't
- 20:49Speaker 5: know who got it from who, but I know before
- 20:52Speaker 5: Bregman made it up because Bregman made his debut in
- 20:54Speaker 5: sixteen then that Correa was already that way. Like very inquisitive,
- 20:59Speaker 5: wanting to learn, and kind of mature beyond his years.
- 21:04Speaker 1: I want to make sure we have a few minutes
- 21:05Speaker 1: for this one. It got millions of views on the
- 21:09Speaker 1: tweet last night from our.
- 21:11Speaker 5: Account, Launch Angle, Launch Angle Tatis.
- 21:14Speaker 2: No different one. Oh okay, let's show it.
- 21:19Speaker 1: Albert Poohole said he rejected a three hundred and fifteen
- 21:21Speaker 1: million dollar offer before signing a contract.
- 21:23Speaker 2: With the Angels in twenty eleven.
- 21:25Speaker 1: The team who made the offer, which you didn't reveal,
- 21:27Speaker 1: is an hour forty minutes from the Dominican Republic, well.
- 21:33Speaker 4: Run in Houston, no Seattle.
- 21:38Speaker 1: So David Sampson on his show, and he's a friend
- 21:40Speaker 1: of this show, went on and discussed it.
- 21:42Speaker 2: Now I listened to it for you guys.
- 21:45Speaker 1: He started it by going, we didn't care what age
- 21:48Speaker 1: he was or if he did stereoys his words. I swear,
- 21:53Speaker 1: I'm literally just saying go click on the episode he
- 21:56Speaker 1: started there and then eventually talked about how they like
- 22:00Speaker 1: his shelf life was a max of five years, even
- 22:02Speaker 1: though they were offering ten or whatever it was.
- 22:04Speaker 2: They didn't care.
- 22:05Speaker 1: They were like, this guy's worth forty plus a year
- 22:07Speaker 1: just for five years.
- 22:09Speaker 2: For us, you know.
- 22:10Speaker 1: Anyway, the offer, yeah, ended up being that massive amount.
- 22:13Speaker 1: I didn't get to finish because he was still going
- 22:15Speaker 1: and then our show started. But he talked about how
- 22:17Speaker 1: he slept in Dan Lozano's suite, like they have a
- 22:19Speaker 1: big suite and there's tons of guys in there just
- 22:21Speaker 1: talking about deals, and they didn't want to be seen
- 22:23Speaker 1: by the media, so they waited there while Albert decided,
- 22:26Speaker 1: and then the next morning they come back in and said, nope, sorry,
- 22:30Speaker 1: going with the Angels.
- 22:30Speaker 2: So obviously the Marlins were pissed.
- 22:32Speaker 1: They felt like it was done already with Dan, and
- 22:34Speaker 1: Dan was waiting for Pooholes and his ex wife at
- 22:37Speaker 1: the time to make the decision.
- 22:38Speaker 2: So there was a lot going on there. But Samson
- 22:40Speaker 2: did lay it all out and they were pissed. That's
- 22:44Speaker 2: probably why.
- 22:44Speaker 4: He, I mean, it was more surprising. This was the
- 22:46Speaker 4: fact that the I mean, the Marlin the biggest surprises
- 22:48Speaker 4: Marlin's offered three hundred and fifteen million.
- 22:51Speaker 1: It was real, I mean said he said, it was real.
- 22:53Speaker 1: They were getting paperwork. He already approval and he doesn't
- 22:57Speaker 1: make this stuff up already, approval from MLB Commission owner.
- 23:00Speaker 1: All that stuff was signed off to do the deal.
- 23:02Speaker 1: They were prepping it with the PR team, and then
- 23:05Speaker 1: he took the turn to the angels.
- 23:06Speaker 4: And what do you get from the angels?
- 23:08Speaker 2: What did he get from the angels? Two thirteen?
- 23:11Speaker 4: So he took two fifty instead of three point fifteen
- 23:17Speaker 4: in Florida with no taxes.
- 23:19Speaker 2: That's the only interview.
- 23:20Speaker 5: That's the only confusing part for me that that's where
- 23:24Speaker 5: but I mean when you think about like the amount
- 23:26Speaker 5: of money, Christy, that's sixty five, that's about one hundred.
- 23:30Speaker 2: Million dollars more when you include the taxes, when you.
- 23:32Speaker 3: Include the taxes, Wow, God.
- 23:36Speaker 5: That's the part. That's the part where I have a
- 23:38Speaker 5: hard time believing it. But the other part that don't
- 23:41Speaker 5: have a hard time believing. People were like, oh man,
- 23:44Speaker 5: the Marlins did that, Like this was right around when
- 23:48Speaker 5: they extended Mike Stanton, like Jean Carlow got the got
- 23:52Speaker 5: the extension a little bit after that, and I think
- 23:54Speaker 5: his was three twenty five. Am I right on that?
- 23:58Speaker 5: Or three nineteen?
- 23:59Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 23:59Speaker 2: That was until No, that was years later, years.
- 24:02Speaker 4: Later, because he's still right.
- 24:05Speaker 2: No, maybe fifteen, I.
- 24:07Speaker 4: Was thinking fifteen or sixteen.
- 24:09Speaker 5: I thought it was thirteen years I thought it was
- 24:11Speaker 5: thirteen years and he signed it in fourteen. So I'm
- 24:14Speaker 5: saying like they already were. I mean, it's not like
- 24:17Speaker 5: the Marlins now who have you know, are paying essentially
- 24:20Speaker 5: what the Dodgers are paying Kyle Tucker as a payroll
- 24:24Speaker 5: like they had they had it, like they had reached
- 24:28Speaker 5: the three hundred million dollar plateau where they were like, Okay,
- 24:31Speaker 5: well we offer it the pool hosts like sure, Jonky
- 24:34Speaker 5: ball game you can have. You can have three hundred
- 24:38Speaker 5: and some million, Like I think, I'm sure you guys
- 24:41Speaker 5: figured it out when he.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Signed thirteen and twenty fourteen, you were closer on the years.
- 24:46Speaker 2: That was pretty good.
- 24:48Speaker 3: So is that time.
- 24:50Speaker 5: And it was the same time that they that they
- 24:52Speaker 5: lied to that they lied to Mark Burley, the same
- 24:55Speaker 5: time that they lied to Jose Reyes I mean signed him.
- 24:58Speaker 3: Did I say, lie?
- 24:59Speaker 5: I meant lied to them and they brought all those
- 25:02Speaker 5: guys in and then they traded and asked those guys.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Yeah, that was not handled. I don't care what they say.
- 25:09Speaker 1: They told the agents and the players that they had
- 25:12Speaker 1: a heath bell. They told them that they can't do
- 25:18Speaker 1: no trade clauses. It's like this company policy it's in
- 25:21Speaker 1: the Bible. It's just not allowed, but that they have
- 25:24Speaker 1: a no trade clause. And then they traded them five
- 25:26Speaker 1: minutes later, and that might be why Albert Poohols was like, yeah,
- 25:32Speaker 1: I'm gonna go.
- 25:33Speaker 4: This was before that. Now it was before no I know,
- 25:36Speaker 4: So this was this is in twenty eleven. This is
- 25:39Speaker 4: when they signed Burley because that was your Assie left.
- 25:43Speaker 3: Yeah, the White.
- 25:44Speaker 4: Sox so twenty twelve would have been his first year.
- 25:46Speaker 4: They signed Reyes, they signed Burley, they signed I think
- 25:48Speaker 4: John buck Bell, Heath Bell.
- 25:51Speaker 2: This was the pivot.
- 25:52Speaker 1: The pivot was they had money, They're opening the ballpark,
- 25:55Speaker 1: and they're like, let's spend.
- 25:56Speaker 2: This is our time.
- 25:57Speaker 4: It was a year they had the TV show with
- 25:59Speaker 4: Ozzie when Us in about two weeks and then he
- 26:01Speaker 4: got fired for saying he loves Castro.
- 26:03Speaker 2: Yep.
- 26:04Speaker 5: Well, like, let's let this isn't the time. This was
- 26:08Speaker 5: just the season that they were going to spend. They
- 26:10Speaker 5: were clearly going to spend like they did, and then
- 26:13Speaker 5: they just send everybody out, just like they've done every
- 26:17Speaker 5: other year in the history of their franchise. Hey we're
- 26:20Speaker 5: gonna try. Hey we won a World Series. Bang, we
- 26:23Speaker 5: want another World series, get rid of everybody,
