- 0:18Speaker 1: Welcome into Jags and brought to you by Field to
- 0:20Speaker 1: Auto Group. We're coming to you live from joint practice
- 0:23Speaker 1: with the Jaguars and the same kind of you and
- 0:27Speaker 1: let's go on location. We like to mix things up
- 0:29Speaker 1: a little bit, and of course this is exciting for
- 0:32Speaker 1: us to get things going and finally get to go
- 0:34Speaker 1: up against some other players. We're gonna go through our
- 0:36Speaker 1: big things today, brought to you by g EJ Government
- 0:39Speaker 1: Employees Health Association, and big thing number one is joining forces.
- 0:41Speaker 1: As I mentioned, this is the first of three joint
- 0:44Speaker 1: practices that the Jaguars are gonna be taking part of
- 0:47Speaker 1: this preseason, and this is the first and only one
- 0:50Speaker 1: that's on the road. Brian, it's finally nice to see
- 0:52Speaker 1: some other competition and see what this team looks like
- 0:55Speaker 1: stacked up against someone else.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Absolutely, we get a chance really to gauge. I mean, guys,
- 1:00Speaker 2: know what the practice schedule is at home. Now you're
- 1:03Speaker 2: going against someone else, so you get the chance to
- 1:05Speaker 2: really gauge who's playing well and who needs.
- 1:07Speaker 3: To step it up.
- 1:08Speaker 2: I can't wait to watch the running game today because
- 1:11Speaker 2: Liam has been talking about that John since the spring,
- 1:13Speaker 2: about improving there.
- 1:14Speaker 3: We'll get a real opportunity today against the Saints.
- 1:16Speaker 4: Well, and we're seeing really how Liam wants to run
- 1:19Speaker 4: this thing. He actually, I think he would love to
- 1:21Speaker 4: have a lot more. There's actually four. There's two against
- 1:26Speaker 4: the Ducks in the last week and one against the
- 1:28Speaker 4: Panthers next week. He believes, and a lot of coaches
- 1:31Speaker 4: are increasingly believing this is a better way to prepare
- 1:35Speaker 4: than preseason because you can control your environment, you can
- 1:39Speaker 4: control the hitting. It's a safer way to get the
- 1:42Speaker 4: competition that they want. This is the way of the future.
- 1:45Speaker 1: It's gonna have a big thing. Number two, which is
- 1:46Speaker 1: gonna be opportunity to see the guys running out here
- 1:49Speaker 1: now to get ready for practice. But they're gonna be
- 1:51Speaker 1: taking this practice very seriously, which means the preset in
- 1:54Speaker 1: the game won't see as many starters. John, So there's
- 1:56Speaker 1: an opportunity for some of these younger guys, some of
- 1:58Speaker 1: these rookies in the game action on Saturday, to kind
- 2:02Speaker 1: of see what they look like as opposed to the
- 2:04Speaker 1: starters that we know we will see come regular Sea.
- 2:07Speaker 4: Yeah, and Liam, you almost got to run over there. Kai.
- 2:09Speaker 1: It's okay. It's not a bad way to go out
- 2:12Speaker 1: if you.
- 2:12Speaker 3: Have to choose.
- 2:15Speaker 4: He likes this because of that, and it's going to
- 2:18Speaker 4: give young players an opportunity on Saturday, like you said,
- 2:22Speaker 4: to show in the games. And it's very regimented Brian,
- 2:25Speaker 4: meaning there's a plan to get the starters and get
- 2:29Speaker 4: certain guys certain looks out here. And you know they
- 2:32Speaker 4: want these guys to be ready. They want this to
- 2:35Speaker 4: be a competition feeling. It's not just a practice. It's hey,
- 2:39Speaker 4: we want these guys ready for this so they can
- 2:41Speaker 4: get this work. Have a conversation with James Ladstone yesterday and.
- 2:45Speaker 2: He decided for the best way to look at this
- 2:47Speaker 2: is that today the joint practice who gets the Saints
- 2:50Speaker 2: against the Panthers next week and the Buccaneers the week
- 2:52Speaker 2: after is about getting ready for the season, right, That's
- 2:55Speaker 2: what the preseason.
- 2:56Speaker 3: Games always were.
- 2:57Speaker 2: The preseason games now are about develop. It's about develop
- 3:01Speaker 2: the evaluation of the young guys got a doubt, but
- 3:03Speaker 2: about making sure you know who can play, who you
- 3:05Speaker 2: should keep on the roster in the practice squad. So
- 3:08Speaker 2: this has actually replaced in terms of evaluation the preseason games.
- 3:14Speaker 4: Yeah, and you can sort of see coming where if
- 3:17Speaker 4: this isn't the norm for everybody. It's gonna be if
- 3:20Speaker 4: they go to fewer and fewer and even no preseason games,
- 3:24Speaker 4: you gotta do stuff like if they.
- 3:25Speaker 2: End up going to eighteen regular season games and only
- 3:28Speaker 2: two preseason games, everybody will everybody will be doing this
- 3:31Speaker 2: every week.
- 3:32Speaker 1: The Saints are doing something similar. They have three joint
- 3:34Speaker 1: practices this preseason as well. Let's go to our final
- 3:36Speaker 1: big thing today, which is going to be searing the ship.
- 3:38Speaker 1: It's an opportunity for some of these younger players to
- 3:40Speaker 1: show out in the preseason games, but also younger coordinator's
- 3:43Speaker 1: great against He's gonna be calling plays for the Jaguars
- 3:47Speaker 1: in this preseason game, and we already know he had
- 3:49Speaker 1: some head coaching opportunities. This is probably the next step.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Ran and Liam Cohen said that he was grateful when
- 3:54Speaker 2: Sean McVay gave him the opportunity in twenty twenty two
- 3:58Speaker 2: to call plays in the preseason. It's also good for
- 4:01Speaker 2: mcveckday for Liam, good for him to yeah, it gives
- 4:04Speaker 2: him an opportunity to be that CEO head coach for
- 4:08Speaker 2: a couple of games and to pay attention to what's
- 4:10Speaker 2: going on defense, special teams, clock management, all of the
- 4:14Speaker 2: other elements of a game that a non play calling
- 4:17Speaker 2: head coach is dealing with.
- 4:19Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:19Speaker 4: I jokingly asked Grant this week if this was like
- 4:22Speaker 4: his Super Bowl and he kind of laughed because obviously
- 4:24Speaker 4: it's not. But it is, you know, And he's not
- 4:27Speaker 4: going to get a job or not get a job
- 4:30Speaker 4: based on his play calling on Saturday. But it is
- 4:33Speaker 4: an opportunity to get that experience, to get it. And
- 4:36Speaker 4: I thought Liam was interesting when he talked about it
- 4:39Speaker 4: that until you do it, you can simulate it. I'm
- 4:42Speaker 4: sure there's some virtual room where you can go call plays,
- 4:46Speaker 4: but until you've done it in real time, you don't
- 4:49Speaker 4: know what it is. So it's it's a good opportunity
- 4:51Speaker 4: for Grant.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Now, yeah, it's skill, right, It's it's something a talent
- 4:54Speaker 2: that you have to develop. And I think realistically, this
- 4:58Speaker 2: is going to be a really good opportunity him because
- 5:00Speaker 2: look at all the guys he's not playing with. Another
- 5:03Speaker 2: Look at all the guys he is playing with all
- 5:04Speaker 2: that second line stuff. So his play calls are gonna
- 5:07Speaker 2: have to be very deliberate to get guys in situations
- 5:10Speaker 2: to get the most out of the looks they want
- 5:12Speaker 2: for them.
- 5:12Speaker 1: All right, stay with us here. We are live from
- 5:14Speaker 1: joint practice with the Saints and the Jaguars coming up.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Answer some of your fan questions after the break.
- 5:26Speaker 5: You know, I just think that it's a it's a
- 5:28Speaker 5: controlled environment that you can you're still getting physical work,
- 5:33Speaker 5: but you're you're suttings. You know, you're not tackling to
- 5:36Speaker 5: the ground, not as many like blind shots and hits
- 5:40Speaker 5: that guys maybe aren't gonna see. And then just in
- 5:45Speaker 5: a game, uh setting, obviously that that occurs right much more.
- 5:49Speaker 5: And where we're at right now, especially from a health standpoint,
- 5:53Speaker 5: we can't really afford to go into a game and
- 5:55Speaker 5: just like let him roll and see what that would
- 5:58Speaker 5: look like from an injury standpoint. And so I just
- 6:01Speaker 5: think it's a more controlled setting you practice against, you know,
- 6:04Speaker 5: pros that know how to practice, and you're with doing
- 6:07Speaker 5: it with coaches that stress the same things of taking
- 6:11Speaker 5: care of one another. And let's be pros about this.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Second year head coaches Liam Cohen Kellen Moore working together
- 6:20Speaker 1: as they get their joint practice together today, I think
- 6:22Speaker 1: we'll see some scrimmaging and hopefully I think they're both
- 6:25Speaker 1: trying to get something out of this so that when
- 6:28Speaker 1: they go into the game they can let some of
- 6:29Speaker 1: the younger guys get after it. We've talked about that
- 6:31Speaker 1: off the top, but they seem to be on the
- 6:32Speaker 1: same page. I know when we went to Miami it
- 6:34Speaker 1: was a little bit different last year.
- 6:35Speaker 3: Very well coordinated.
- 6:36Speaker 2: I mean, they're going to make sure that they get
- 6:37Speaker 2: the matchups they want. When you're talking about Trayvon Walker
- 6:40Speaker 2: against their best offensive lineman or vice versa their past
- 6:43Speaker 2: pass rusher lining up against Anton Harrison to get a
- 6:46Speaker 2: good look at it.
- 6:47Speaker 4: Yeah, you want to get what you want out of it,
- 6:49Speaker 4: and you also want to make sure as much as
- 6:51Speaker 4: possible both teams are on the same page in terms of, hey,
- 6:54Speaker 4: we're protecting each other out there. This is not the
- 6:57Speaker 4: time to, you know, get your hand on fire for
- 7:01Speaker 4: injury purposes.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Don't get too crazy with it. Let's answer some of
- 7:04Speaker 1: these fan questions brought to you by Sudis today. So
- 7:06Speaker 1: Alex from Manchester, UK, trying to understand the preseason schedule
- 7:09Speaker 1: a little bit. He says, during the preseason it looks
- 7:11Speaker 1: from the outside as though teams only spend about two
- 7:13Speaker 1: hours a day on the practice field. Do you think
- 7:15Speaker 1: that's right? If so, how much additional time do they
- 7:18Speaker 1: spend up meetings, film study, learning the playbook all the other.
- 7:21Speaker 4: Well, well, it varies. It's a little less and less
- 7:26Speaker 4: each year a little bit because it becomes more about
- 7:28Speaker 4: the mental, more about these It's about two two and
- 7:30Speaker 4: a half hours on the max days on the field then,
- 7:33Speaker 4: and there's a forty five minute walkthrough that people really
- 7:36Speaker 4: wouldn't recognize as football practice. It's very much a walkthrough.
- 7:39Speaker 6: So it's it's much.
- 7:41Speaker 4: More efficient work on the field, Brian than when we
- 7:46Speaker 4: were in Stevens point thirty years ago. I mean it
- 7:48Speaker 4: is not. You're not straining these guys physically and having
- 7:51Speaker 4: them just go all out every day. The rules don't
- 7:55Speaker 4: allow it, and common sense with the salary cap and
- 7:57Speaker 4: need and keep players healthy all year, this doesn't allow it.
- 8:00Speaker 2: I go back to what Gerald Ingram said the first
- 8:02Speaker 2: day of training camp. Stress now is strategic, right, just
- 8:05Speaker 2: like the matchups that they have coordinated with the Saints
- 8:07Speaker 2: today to make sure they get the most of it.
- 8:10Speaker 2: It used to be the training camp well with us,
- 8:12Speaker 2: it was a month long, used to be six weeks long,
- 8:15Speaker 2: and it was all about getting ready for the season.
- 8:17Speaker 2: Now these guys have been getting ready all through the spring.
- 8:20Speaker 2: It's about getting the best work possible. They wear those
- 8:23Speaker 2: exos vests and they can tell when a guy is
- 8:26Speaker 2: at his peak and when a guy is prone to
- 8:28Speaker 2: get hurt because he's not at his peak, and so
- 8:31Speaker 2: they have strategically placed opportunities in front of these guys
- 8:35Speaker 2: every day on the practice field. The question also talked
- 8:38Speaker 2: about meetings. They got meetings stacked throughout the course of
- 8:40Speaker 2: the day. A typical training camp day for these guys
- 8:43Speaker 2: starts before seven o'clock in the morning and now ends
- 8:45Speaker 2: after seven o'clock in the evening. There's some rest time
- 8:48Speaker 2: and some meal time and stuff like that, but it
- 8:50Speaker 2: is stacked throughout the day to maximize their time together.
- 8:54Speaker 2: Because four weeks has gone like that. Now all of
- 8:56Speaker 2: a sudden, you don't have that kind of time during
- 8:58Speaker 2: the season.
- 9:00Speaker 1: Second questions Tucker from Nashville. We talked a little bit
- 9:02Speaker 1: about Zach Durfey, of course, the rookie this year, pass
- 9:06Speaker 1: rusher John. How many defensive ends do you see the
- 9:08Speaker 1: Jaguars keeping on the active roster.
- 9:11Speaker 4: Well, I think they keep all the guys that people
- 9:13Speaker 4: are talking about. I mean Trayvon and Josh Heinz Allen
- 9:16Speaker 4: obviously guard x more of a linebacker, so he probably
- 9:19Speaker 4: didn't count in that number. Wesley Williams, Zach Durfey, Danny Strigo,
- 9:24Speaker 4: and bj Green. I'd be surprised if all the more
- 9:27Speaker 4: on the roster. I don't know that all will be
- 9:29Speaker 4: ready to contribute in a significant way, but they don't
- 9:33Speaker 4: want to lose any of those guys. Wesley, Williams and
- 9:36Speaker 4: Durfy are young, they're rookies. They may not be ready
- 9:39Speaker 4: to make impact in September, just like some offensive linemen
- 9:42Speaker 4: sometimes aren't. But they know these guys are gonna matter,
- 9:45Speaker 4: so you're gonna have to keep them. So I think
- 9:46Speaker 4: six that's probably a little high Brian than normal history.
- 9:51Speaker 6: They like all the guys.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Yeah, so you got to keep well, they've done that before,
- 9:53Speaker 2: right again, we used the Tyler Shatley example in twenty fourteen.
- 9:56Speaker 2: They didn't want to keep ten linemen that year, but
- 9:58Speaker 2: because of the market forces they knew Chattlee was gonna
- 10:00Speaker 2: get picked up, they couldn't put him on the practice squad.
- 10:02Speaker 3: It'll be interesting to see where they feel about that.
- 10:05Speaker 2: Also, you've got the flexibility to keep three defensive tackles
- 10:07Speaker 2: or four defensive tackles, because you know tray Von Walker
- 10:10Speaker 2: is probably gonna slide inside on third down. It's not
- 10:14Speaker 2: terribly different than Travis Hunter. One guy, two positions gives
- 10:19Speaker 2: you some flexibility. Really, the roster math is so interesting
- 10:22Speaker 2: because you know they want to play three tight ends.
- 10:24Speaker 2: Does that mean they're gonna have to have four on
- 10:26Speaker 2: the active roster or five?
- 10:28Speaker 4: Right?
- 10:28Speaker 3: Right?
- 10:28Speaker 2: I mean, it's just it's very interesting. I really am
- 10:31Speaker 2: high on Wesley. You've talked about Bingja Green in the
- 10:34Speaker 2: camp he's had, and yet every time I try to
- 10:36Speaker 2: dismiss Durfrey and what he's gonna be a guy that
- 10:39Speaker 2: needs a little bit more time to develop. He's gonna
- 10:41Speaker 2: have to go to the practice squad, people.
- 10:42Speaker 3: Go, don't be so Quinn.
- 10:43Speaker 1: Yeah, he's someone of interest today. I think to see
- 10:45Speaker 1: what he can get after and enjoying practice against a
- 10:47Speaker 1: different team, what he ends up looking like. Our final
- 10:50Speaker 1: fan question is from Josh from Atlanta. How are you feeling
- 10:52Speaker 1: about the offensive line? Injury bug? Camp is camp, just
- 10:55Speaker 1: like the regular season, guys get banged up. Any major
- 10:57Speaker 1: concerns this evolves by the day. John's there's one to
- 10:59Speaker 1: let you kind of touch base on it. Plus, you
- 11:01Speaker 1: can't forget about col Van Lennon.
- 11:03Speaker 4: It's a short term concern in terms of figuring out
- 11:07Speaker 4: how you're going to practice and line up during practices
- 11:10Speaker 4: in camp. My understanding that it's not a long term issue.
- 11:14Speaker 4: They think they'll be fine for the regular season opener. Uh.
- 11:17Speaker 4: Remember the regular seasons a month away, so they're still
- 11:19Speaker 4: time to get these guys healthy. Now, if it keeps
- 11:21Speaker 4: being a short term issue every week, then all of
- 11:24Speaker 4: a sudden that becomes long term. That's that's calendar algebra.
- 11:29Speaker 3: I was no good at algebra.
- 11:31Speaker 2: This is the only guy that I'm that I wonder
- 11:33Speaker 2: about is because we haven't heard much about him.
- 11:35Speaker 3: Is Walker lived and and the reason that you have
- 11:38Speaker 3: a lot of concern.
- 11:39Speaker 2: You have concern is because he was taking reps at
- 11:42Speaker 2: left tackle, right tackle, and at guard.
- 11:43Speaker 3: For you, he's he's a pivotal piece.
- 11:45Speaker 2: Somebody asked me, would the Jaguars be interested if the
- 11:48Speaker 2: Washington commanders called, because you know they lost Larumy Tunsil
- 11:52Speaker 2: and offers you a good pick, have to be really
- 11:54Speaker 2: good because he's so versatile and he's when he got
- 11:58Speaker 2: the extension Kai with Wow, fifteen million dollars a year.
- 12:01Speaker 3: Walker little but now it looks like a bargain.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Is a guy who can play a lot of different
- 12:05Speaker 2: positions for you along that line. So he's the one guy.
- 12:08Speaker 2: But as John just said, you got a month to
- 12:10Speaker 2: see where he's at.
- 12:12Speaker 4: They're also fine with Tuma as a passlocker on the
- 12:14Speaker 4: right side Tuma Adoga, so they wouldn't be panicking if
- 12:17Speaker 4: that happens.
- 12:18Speaker 1: It's a lot of options, a lot of people moving
- 12:20Speaker 1: in and around, and we'll keep an eye on that
- 12:22Speaker 1: throughout camp. But I think by the time the regular
- 12:25Speaker 1: season start may look very different but familiar faces. We'll
- 12:27Speaker 1: be back and ready to go. Say this here on
- 12:29Speaker 1: Jack XAM. We'll talk a little bit more about Saints
- 12:31Speaker 1: and what we can expect from joint practice.
- 12:46Speaker 4: The best thing is just get the opportunity to go
- 12:47Speaker 4: out there and compete against other people.
- 12:49Speaker 1: You know, we've been going out of here against each
- 12:51Speaker 1: other for quite a while.
- 12:52Speaker 4: Old tas in camp.
- 12:53Speaker 1: Now it'll be good.
- 12:54Speaker 2: It'll be exciting, you know, something new or something fresh,
- 12:56Speaker 2: So we're excited.
- 12:58Speaker 6: To get down there.
- 13:02Speaker 1: Welcome back into Jack Zanon. Brought to you by Fields
- 13:04Speaker 1: Auto Group Jacksonville is Premieres Luxury auto group. Check it
- 13:06Speaker 1: out at field Dotto dot com. And of course we
- 13:09Speaker 1: are live from Saints Camp. Want to bring in Ross
- 13:11Speaker 1: Jackson are Saints insider from Lockdown Saints and many other things. Ross.
- 13:15Speaker 1: I know you're ready for this heat. We have a
- 13:17Speaker 1: different kind of heat, but we're excited for a joint
- 13:19Speaker 1: practice and go up against some different people.
- 13:21Speaker 6: Yeah. Absolutely. Look, I was born and raising this heat,
- 13:24Speaker 6: molded by it, some might say. And it helps when
- 13:26Speaker 6: you can fit a donut around the wrist too, you
- 13:28Speaker 6: know what I mean. Like, I'm built for the I'm
- 13:29Speaker 6: built for this heat.
- 13:30Speaker 2: Hey e t I E N N E.
- 13:35Speaker 3: Yes. How does that become a chan? Can you explain that?
- 13:37Speaker 1: Because a lot of people in jackson were like, they're
- 13:38Speaker 1: running back formerly known as ETNA.
- 13:40Speaker 2: We didn't know that it wasn't Travis E T N
- 13:43Speaker 2: and then all of a sudden, he signs here, it's
- 13:45Speaker 2: Travis a chan.
- 13:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:46Speaker 6: We do this a lot in New Orleans. There's a
- 13:48Speaker 6: street downtown in the French Quarter that's spelled Burgundy. We
- 13:52Speaker 6: pronounced it Burgundy. There's another one that spelled Calliope. We
- 13:55Speaker 6: pronounced it KLi o This is just kind of how
- 13:57Speaker 6: we roll down here as if you got that par right. Yeah, yeah,
- 14:01Speaker 6: We're not going to stray too far away from the
- 14:02Speaker 6: tradition on that one. But yeah, yeah, no, it was
- 14:04Speaker 6: I think a surprise for everybody, but you know, worth
- 14:06Speaker 6: the clarification of course, now that he's back in his
- 14:08Speaker 6: home state, gets an opportunity to hear the name again well.
- 14:10Speaker 1: As Trevor likes to say, he just called him Trav
- 14:12Speaker 1: How is he looking so far? What's that split going
- 14:15Speaker 1: to look like for your running back?
- 14:16Speaker 6: Yeah, I think we're at it. Yeah, I think we're
- 14:17Speaker 6: gonna see a lot of Travis hn in this offense.
- 14:20Speaker 6: He's going to be the focus in the run game.
- 14:22Speaker 6: Maybe this split is kind of sixty percent him and
- 14:25Speaker 6: then a big kind of wealth of Alvin Kamara, who's
- 14:28Speaker 6: still very much a part of this system, still very
- 14:30Speaker 6: much a part of this attack. And so far throughout
- 14:33Speaker 6: camp he's looked great. I mean, all the things that
- 14:35Speaker 6: I'm sure you guys have seen from him for years now,
- 14:37Speaker 6: the ability, the vision, his ability to kind of cut,
- 14:41Speaker 6: his breakaway, ability to speed, all of that's still very
- 14:43Speaker 6: much intact here in New Orleans.
- 14:45Speaker 3: Give us the quarterback situation.
- 14:46Speaker 2: Tyler Schuck comes in last year and unheralded guy, and
- 14:50Speaker 2: yet he plays pretty well. You win the last four
- 14:52Speaker 2: games of the season.
- 14:54Speaker 3: Is the job his?
- 14:55Speaker 2: Does he have a chance to earn it this year
- 14:57Speaker 2: or are they perpetually looking for that next guy?
- 14:59Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 14:59Speaker 6: I think at this point the job is his. The
- 15:01Speaker 6: answer that he kind of gets to work towards now
- 15:04Speaker 6: is to the question is he the franchise guy moving forward?
- 15:07Speaker 6: That's what twenty twenty six becomes about. He was excellent
- 15:10Speaker 6: last year, one of the NFL's best completion percentages on
- 15:13Speaker 6: third down, one of the NFL's best passer ratings on
- 15:15Speaker 6: third down one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL
- 15:17Speaker 6: over the course of those nine starts. When it came
- 15:19Speaker 6: to the end of game situations too, two minute drails
- 15:22Speaker 6: a couple of game winning drives all throughout and was
- 15:25Speaker 6: a runner up effectively for Offensive Rookie of the Year.
- 15:27Speaker 6: He's proved his opportunity to be the starter going into
- 15:30Speaker 6: twenty twenty six. Now, the question is what happens beyond.
- 15:33Speaker 1: The injury bugs for these teams kind of lining up
- 15:35Speaker 1: We were talking earlier. The O line for US Real
- 15:37Speaker 1: banged up your D line, dealing with the interior D
- 15:39Speaker 1: line dealing with some of the same problems. What are
- 15:42Speaker 1: you hoping to see out here today in terms of
- 15:44Speaker 1: that battle?
- 15:45Speaker 6: Yeah, this was a really interesting run defense to watch
- 15:47Speaker 6: last year, and it all starts in the trenches, as
- 15:50Speaker 6: all things do for both sides of the football. But
- 15:52Speaker 6: defensively for New Orleans, they were a team that if
- 15:55Speaker 6: you look at the total rushing yards they gave up
- 15:57Speaker 6: last year, they were kind of nineteenth, just beyond the
- 16:00Speaker 6: lower half of the NFL. But then you look at
- 16:02Speaker 6: the fact that they faced the third most rushing attempts
- 16:04Speaker 6: last year, that's really what contributed to that. But for
- 16:07Speaker 6: a defense on a per rush basis, they were one
- 16:09Speaker 6: of the better teams in the NFL on that side.
- 16:11Speaker 6: So what you're looking for out of this defensive line
- 16:13Speaker 6: right now is can they hold the line instead of
- 16:15Speaker 6: getting moved off? That's the first part. The second part
- 16:17Speaker 6: is how does the second level attack some of this?
- 16:20Speaker 6: You know, these run gaps and run fits.
- 16:22Speaker 2: I've talked to folks in Tampa, Carolina and Atlanta, and
- 16:25Speaker 2: all of them think this division is wide open. All
- 16:28Speaker 2: of them have their own little things they're working through.
- 16:31Speaker 2: Where do the Saints come into that? Do you see
- 16:33Speaker 2: this as a wide open division? Are the Saints in
- 16:35Speaker 2: a position with their roster and their coaching staff far
- 16:38Speaker 2: enough along to be able to make some noise in
- 16:40Speaker 2: the NFC South East.
- 16:41Speaker 6: Yeah, the team certainly believe so, and I think when
- 16:43Speaker 6: you look at the moves that they made over the
- 16:45Speaker 6: course of the offseason, I think all of that lens
- 16:47Speaker 6: towards what their goals are going into twenty twenty six,
- 16:50Speaker 6: which is to attack the top of the NFC South.
- 16:52Speaker 6: General manager Mickey Loomis said in one of his recent
- 16:55Speaker 6: press conferences that they hope not just to win the
- 16:57Speaker 6: NFC South, but they get back to dominating the NFC South.
- 17:00Speaker 6: That's their goal as they go forward. You saw them
- 17:02Speaker 6: load up the offense build around Tyler Shuck over the
- 17:05Speaker 6: course of the offseason, and then a defense under defensive
- 17:07Speaker 6: coordinator Brandon Staley that's continued to ascend in this second
- 17:10Speaker 6: year here with head coach Kellen Moore. The idea is
- 17:12Speaker 6: to push for the top of that division.
- 17:14Speaker 1: Ross, I know the offense hasn't looked great in New
- 17:17Speaker 1: Orleans some of training camp so far. What are you
- 17:20Speaker 1: hoping to see now they're going up against, you know,
- 17:22Speaker 1: not your own team. I think sometimes your team knows
- 17:24Speaker 1: you best. So what are you hoping to see out
- 17:25Speaker 1: of Tyler Shuck and the offense today?
- 17:26Speaker 6: Yeah, I think the opportunity to go up against an
- 17:28Speaker 6: unfamiliar opponent. These guys have been talked about it's game day,
- 17:31Speaker 6: it's game day, it's game day all day. So they're
- 17:32Speaker 6: really pomped. This is the first time the Saints have
- 17:35Speaker 6: hosted a joint practice and I think almost ten years
- 17:37Speaker 6: remember correctly, the last time was like twenty seventeen with
- 17:40Speaker 6: the Houston Texans, and so you guys know very well
- 17:43Speaker 6: and so when it comes to this day, this is
- 17:45Speaker 6: about kind of the charge of feeling competition and for
- 17:48Speaker 6: the first time being able to go against somebody that's
- 17:49Speaker 6: a little bit unfamiliar. Otherwise, in training camp, you're not
- 17:52Speaker 6: game planning to beat your own defense. You're game planning
- 17:54Speaker 6: to install your plays. This is where the game preps
- 17:57Speaker 6: access starts.
- 17:58Speaker 2: So this isn't the first time that the Saints have
- 18:00Speaker 2: practiced with the jid Wars. Jim Haslett was the coach
- 18:03Speaker 2: and they came to Jacksonville in nineteen ninety seven.
- 18:05Speaker 3: This summer. So I remember that that was the early days.
- 18:07Speaker 1: Of Jacks right a two today situation.
- 18:10Speaker 3: Yeah right, they went twice.
- 18:12Speaker 1: That's not it, all right, say it's here on Jackson.
- 18:14Speaker 1: I'm coming up after the break. We'll come back talk
- 18:16Speaker 1: a little bit about what maybe we'll see in the
- 18:17Speaker 1: preseason game. Welcome back into joint practice. Jags and Saints
- 18:36Speaker 1: are already getting after it behind us, so we're gonna
- 18:38Speaker 1: keep this pretty quick here. But because we're gonna see
- 18:41Speaker 1: a lot of the veterans getting after it today, some
- 18:43Speaker 1: of the young guys will get a chance on Saturday. Ross.
- 18:45Speaker 1: What are a couple of names of some young players
- 18:46Speaker 1: we might see on Saturday?
- 18:47Speaker 6: Yeah, I think over in the offensive side, the Saints
- 18:49Speaker 6: invested big time in the wide receiver room in the
- 18:52Speaker 6: draft this year. They drafted three wide receivers for the
- 18:54Speaker 6: first time since nineteen ninety eight there were or nineteen
- 18:57Speaker 6: eighty nine. Actually there were twelve rounds in the draft
- 19:00Speaker 6: that time, almost seven now, and so Bryce Lance out
- 19:02Speaker 6: of North Dakota State University the Saints took in the
- 19:05Speaker 6: fourth round. He's been somebody that's really been coming on
- 19:07Speaker 6: here late and has been a lot of fun to
- 19:09Speaker 6: watch six foot three, four to three speed, So he
- 19:11Speaker 6: has both size, speed, all of that. So he should
- 19:14Speaker 6: be somebody to definitely keep an eye out on the
- 19:16Speaker 6: offensive side. On the defensive side, I'd watch out for
- 19:18Speaker 6: number thirty eight nickel corner Jaden Price. This is a
- 19:21Speaker 6: guy that also went to Northdakota State University, actually football
- 19:24Speaker 6: factory out there.
- 19:24Speaker 1: Scout was doing a lot of work.
- 19:26Speaker 6: Yeah, they do some good work out there, and look,
- 19:28Speaker 6: these guys come in with a really really high standard.
- 19:30Speaker 6: Jayden spent a year in the UFL last year and
- 19:33Speaker 6: is a great story of a guy that spent a
- 19:35Speaker 6: year on the practice squad developed and now is fighting
- 19:38Speaker 6: for a fifty three man roster spot. It might already
- 19:40Speaker 6: be in line for it, so he would be another
- 19:41Speaker 6: player that I'd be watching in the slot on defense.
- 19:43Speaker 1: All right, Brian, any young guys you're looking for for.
- 19:45Speaker 3: Us, nobody that we really haven't talked about that much.
- 19:48Speaker 2: I mean, you want to see some of the undrafted
- 19:50Speaker 2: guys like Jamar Taylor, right the running back because that's
- 19:54Speaker 2: been a storyline for us.
- 19:56Speaker 3: You want to see the tight ends borer.
- 19:58Speaker 2: Obviously, the word on these guys from Brenton Strange yesterday.
- 20:01Speaker 2: Is that both he and Tanner Cooziol are really talented
- 20:04Speaker 2: guys who can make things happen. And then of course
- 20:07Speaker 2: France and Combs fighting with benro Miller out there on
- 20:09Speaker 2: the week side, that's going to be. Those two guys
- 20:12Speaker 2: are the only potential starters that are expected to play.
- 20:15Speaker 3: So let's see him all right.
- 20:16Speaker 1: Join practice underway. We'll have more for you on Happy
- 20:19Speaker 1: Hour tonight. Ross Jackson's locked on. Thanks, thank you for
- 20:22Speaker 1: joining us, and we will be back with you and
- 20:23Speaker 1: we'll have full coverage for you later today.
