- 0:22SPEAKER_00: In this week's shorter episodes, we're talking about a few ways to start writing today.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: One great way to do this is by posting on social media.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: Now, I know, I know, many people dismiss social media as something that's not worthy of your time as a writer, but honestly, I completely disagree with that.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: Social media is not only a great place to connect and network with other writers, it's also kind of a low-stakes environment where you can work on your writing skills.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: For example, you can tell a story about something that happened to you today.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: You can give somebody a shout-out, or you could acknowledge another writer, or you can share their book.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: You can share a quote that you liked, or you can ask an insightful question.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: You can comment on other people's posts.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: You can share what books you're reading or what TV shows you like.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: You can share something you're learning right now.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: Honestly, the possibilities are endless with social media.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: There's so many ways to add value to other people by writing in the short form that social media requires.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: Now I've said this many times before, and I will continue to say it.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: People's greatest emotional need is to be affirmed and validated.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: Let me say that again so it really sinks in.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: People's greatest emotional need is to be affirmed and validated.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: So if you make a list of all the things that make a big difference in your writing career, your writing talent is not item number one.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: A far more important item is the way that you make people feel.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: And if you can make people feel good, if you can validate people and affirm them and encourage them through social media, I think you're going to go a long way.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: So don't dismiss the power of social media.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: I mean, after all, it's called social media.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: The whole point of social media is that it is, well, that it's social.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: It involves other people.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: So when you go to post on social media, make sure that you're thinking about how is what I'm going to post going to make somebody else feel?
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: How is it going to help somebody else?
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: Or how is it going to promote somebody else?
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: Or how is it going to impact them?
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: When you think about social media as something that is first social and then second of all, it's media, it really, really makes a big difference.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: So here's today's question.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: Can you think of an example of a social media post recently that impacted you or inspired you to take action?
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: And how could you do the same thing for other people by writing on social media?
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: Today's episode is an excerpt from our ebook, Start Writing Today Five Simple Ways to Begin Changing Lives with Your Words.
