- 0:00Welcome to the very first episode of the Inside Quotes Book Club.
- 0:04If you've listened to Inside Quotes for a while,
- 0:06you probably know we grew up in a pretty bookish household.
- 0:09Our mom was a school librarian,
- 0:11so when we were kids, we basically grew up hanging around the school library.
- 0:15Which meant we were surrounded by books all the time.
- 0:18And Harry Potter was a pretty big part of that.
- 0:21We've both read the Harry Potter books multiple times over the years.
- 0:24We've obviously seen the movies more times than we should probably admit.
- 0:28But with the new Harry Potter series coming,
- 0:30we thought it would just be fun to go back and actually read through
- 0:34the books together again.
- 0:35And that's really what this is.
- 0:36We're not here to pretend like we're Harry Potter experts or we're gonna uncover
- 0:40some secret meaning that nobody has ever noticed.
- 0:43Although who knows?
- 0:45Who knows? We just really love these books and we thought that it would
- 0:48be fun to slow down, read them chapter by chapter,
- 0:51and you know, actually just talk about them.
- 0:53Yeah, we'll talk about the stuff we love,
- 0:54stuff that surprises us, things we forgot,
- 0:57things the movies changed.
- 0:59and probably argue about some completely unimportant Harry Potter detail for way,
- 1:04way too long.
- 1:06And since this is the Inside Quotes book club,
- 1:08we've got a few things planned along the way.
- 1:10But we'll get into that as we go.
- 1:13So grab your copy of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.
- 1:17Philosophers. And let's go back to where it all started.
- 1:22Chapter one The Boy Who Lived
- 1:25my goodness, here we go.
- 1:26Here we go.
- 1:28Jonathan. This is our first episode where we're doing a book.
- 1:33We
- 1:34Yeah.
- 1:35have done all the Harry Potter movies
- 1:37on our actual main show. Took us four
- 1:37Mm-hmm.
- 1:39years to do so, and as soon as we finished we were like,
- 1:41Wait, we need more Harry Potter to do.
- 1:44Luckily for us, th
- 1:46And then they announced a show.
- 1:47there's a lot more going on. So yeah.
- 1:50I we figured October first,
- 1:53which is today
- 1:54A happy fall, happy October. would be the perfect time to start this book because
- 2:01it is only seventeen chapters.
- 2:02And we'll we'll double up episodes between now and December,
- 2:08but our goal is to be finished up with the book before the first episode drops
- 2:14of the HBO mini series. It's a series it's not even a mini series.
- 2:16This Christmas. Yeah. It's a major series.
- 2:18this Christmas
- 2:20It's a very major series. Yeah.
- 2:21If the first season goes well,
- 2:22but
- 2:23And I
- 2:24feel like the reason we wanted to start this is because ~ a a lot
- 2:29of people are excited for this.
- 2:31A lot of people aren't very excited for it.
- 2:33But and a lot of people have come around to it and they're just like,
- 2:37Okay, I'm gonna watch this. You know,
- 2:39it's it's kind of controversial.
- 2:40Some people thought that this show is coming way too soon.
- 2:44but I don't think so.
- 2:49I don't think so. That was an elastic role quote by the way.
- 2:53So
- 2:58I what people have been asking for is a T V show.
- 3:04Not necessarily a T V show, but just a more detailed version of these books turned
- 3:11into movies and very faithful
- 3:12Faithful adaptations. Yeah.
- 3:15adaptations because like the books are amazing.
- 3:20The movies are amazing. However,
- 3:23the the movies don't have everything because it's two hours and the books just
- 3:29get longer from here. even in the first movie they left
- 3:35out so much of this book. And I feel like another reason is we started with Harry
- 3:39Potter first is because so many people haven't read these books,
- 3:45They've just grown up with the movies and it was like,
- 3:46They just grown up with the movies and some people aren't readers and that's okay,
- 3:47okay. Yeah. Mm-hmm.
- 3:50you know. ~
- 3:51and hopefully this podcast will serve as like a book club slash spark
- 3:58notes depending on if you're a reader or not.
- 3:59Yeah. Yeah.
- 4:01We
- 4:02want it to be entertaining and even helpful for those that have seen
- 4:07the movies but they don't really read and but they want to know what's going
- 4:11on in the T V show. And we also want it to be like
- 4:14also a book club for those who really love the books.
- 4:17So we are not experts, but we are experts.
- 4:24Good one.
- 4:26Nice. I just came up with that.
- 4:27Wow. This is my copy. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.
- 4:32We've been saying I've got several copies.
- 4:33Got several copies there. Yeah?
- 4:36I've got the Collector's Edition,
- 4:36Mm hmm. I do,
- 4:37which you have that as well. I've got the
- 4:39I do.
- 4:40Canadian edition, which is the British version.
- 4:43~
- 4:43Mm-hmm.
- 4:44and I've got the book cover for this exact one.
- 4:48And
- 4:49we just shout out to Mary Grand Prix because like we're saying
- 4:52Yeah. Anytime.
- 4:54this is
- 4:57This is the greatest artwork.
- 5:00That it will never get better than this.
- 5:03And I'm sorry. Maybe I'm just biased.
- 5:06But
- 5:08I I've always loved the artwork,
- 5:09The British artwork is not
- 5:10yeah.
- 5:11good. And I we just lost all of our British listeners.
- 5:15But our olive branch to them is
- 5:16We called it Philosopher's Stone,
- 5:18you know.
- 5:18yeah, we're calling up Philosopher's Stone.
- 5:20And I feel like the only reason we're doing that is because the T V show
- 5:25is calling it that.
- 5:26Yeah.
- 5:28And that's what it is. Like it's a real thing I learned.
- 5:31Mm-hmm.
- 5:32It's not a real artifact, but it is a myth called the Philosopher's Stone.
- 5:39~ and they just called it sorcerer's stone because they thought Americans could
- 5:43understand that better. There's a lot of things that I translated
- 5:47Yeah.
- 5:47in these chapters from British to English.
- 5:50American English.
- 5:54I I noticed that too because prepping for,
- 5:57you know, the chapter we're gonna we're gonna cover,
- 5:59I have on Audible the classic Jim Dale versions.
- 6:05Those are the Audible versions of the books
- 6:05yeah. ~ yeah.
- 6:07that I've grew up with, you know,
- 6:10all my life. But I've also ~ recently gotten the full cast edition that Audible
- 6:16has done. And I actually have listened to both chapters.
- 6:20So I I I listened to the classic Jim Dale version.
- 6:23And then I also listened like both versions,
- 6:23Both chapters. You mean both versions?
- 6:25Okay. I also did that.
- 6:26yes. So of chapter one.
- 6:30and and so I got both, you know,
- 6:32both takes of it. And I did notice the different words that they changed because
- 6:36the full cast is using the British ~ text,
- 6:39I noticed. So like
- 6:40What's interesting is
- 6:41that they call that the sorcerer's stone on the artwork.
- 6:43Hmm. I yeah,
- 6:45So
- 6:46that's true. Audible is calling it that.
- 6:48At least in America, I know. Some of the
- 6:50Yeah, it's probably different.
- 6:51words that got switched out, like words like jumper and sweatshirt,
- 6:56you know, they ~ what else was there?
- 6:56Yeah. I I wrote them down as we go.
- 6:59Okay, alright.
- 6:59~
- 7:01but yeah. I decided to be very I don't know,
- 7:07what's the word? Unhinged and actually write in
- 7:12my first edition Harry Potter hardback book.
- 7:16that's the I didn't take any notes other than what's in the book.
- 7:23So I figured we would go chapter by chapter.
- 7:26Page by page, and we'll just go through what we talked about this week.
- 7:30I will have a disclaimer that my notes
- 7:36are hard to read because I did this while in the car.
- 7:40So I wasn't driving, but I was writing on a long road trip.
- 7:43Yeah.
- 7:45And I was like, this is the perfect time to read.
- 7:47And I it was not the perfect time to write.
- 7:51So if I miss a couple things, sorry.
- 7:53But they won't even know.
- 7:55Wha
- 7:56Well, Jeremy, should I kick us off with like a brief chapter summary and then
- 8:01we can kinda get to the
- 8:01Yeah.
- 8:02the main story beats and whatnot,
- 8:03but
- 8:04Yes.
- 8:05all right, so chapter one, The Boy Who Lived The Dursleys are an ordinary family
- 8:10who pride themselves on being completely normal,
- 8:13but strange things begin happening around them.
- 8:15Owls are everywhere. People in cloaks are celebrating,
- 8:19and rumors spread about a mysterious Harry Potter.
- 8:22That night Albus Dumbledore, Professor McGonagal,
- 8:25and Hagrid leave Baby Harry on the Dursley's doorstep.
- 8:28Harry is the only known survivor of an attack by the Dark Wizard,
- 8:32he who must not be named, Voldemort,
- 8:35who disappeared after failing to kill him.
- 8:38Harry is left with the Dursleys to grow up away from the wizarding world.
- 8:41That hilarity ensues?
- 8:42What's what's unit Hilarity ensues?
- 8:45What is Voldemort's name again?
- 8:47He who must not be named.
- 8:52Mm.
- 8:52Sorry, I just have the soundboard from pirates.
- 8:54Mm-hmm.
- 8:54~
- 8:57yeah.
- 8:57Well shall we get started on this?
- 8:58~ let's dive in on It
- 8:59We shall. It shall be done.
- 9:02shall be done. Let's just start out,
- 9:05let's zoom in right on the ~ chapter art.
- 9:08Our first glance of the book. We've got first
- 9:12of all We've got Harry snuggled up in his little bundle,
- 9:18presumably on the doorstep, ~ if you've read the book.
- 9:19Hmm. Yeah. I did.
- 9:24Baby Harry.
- 9:25~ it's the only time we'll ever see that.
- 9:27So it's a great iconic ~ font as well.
- 9:32That's another thing that the the American version,
- 9:37Sorcerer's Stone, has on the British version,
- 9:41is that I have the British version and the text is boring.
- 9:45Like even to
- 9:45Heh he's boring.
- 9:47this reading font, like the body text,
- 9:49it's just like
- 9:50Yeah.
- 9:50so much easier to read and it's more like whimsical I guess.
- 9:55Yeah.
- 9:56And it's like so cramped. I I was gonna write notes and read the British version,
- 10:00but there's like no i I guess since it's a paperback,
- 10:03there's no
- 10:03Yeah.
- 10:04room for ~ margins and it's just like it's just boring.
- 10:09Yeah, I've always I've always liked the the font in there.
- 10:11And they've got like the chapters at the top of the page and it's
- 10:15got like those like three stars that design there.
- 10:17yeah, the little asterisk.
- 10:17Yeah.
- 10:18It's it's cool.
- 10:20We love scholastic in this household,
- 10:22so thank ya. So yeah,
- 10:25we've got The Boy Who Lived. What what do you think about that chapter title?
- 10:30It's ~
- 10:30It's important one.
- 10:32it's it's a classic. It ~ it definitely references the the mystery that gets
- 10:37set up and f I mean from from page one really.
- 10:40I mean from this first chapter of Harry coming in contact with the darkest wizard
- 10:46of all time. He doesn't quite know all that just yet,
- 10:49but and somehow he lives, you know,
- 10:51with nothing but a scar.
- 10:53Nobody knows.
- 10:54And nobody knows why.
- 10:56Scars are good, you know.
- 10:57Yeah.
- 10:57They could come in handy.
- 10:59so yeah, we start out with Mr.
- 11:01and Mrs. Dursley of number four Private Drive.
- 11:03And I just thought like number four immediately we're hit with
- 11:08the British the Britishisms. Like we don't
- 11:12say number four Private Drive in America.
- 11:18We just say like four.
- 11:21We don't even do single digits really.
- 11:23We do like twenty four ninety four Private Drive.
- 11:28Probably private drive in America.
- 11:31But
- 11:32I was always confused
- 11:33by that when I read as a kid. I was like,
- 11:35Is it private? Private what? I don't know.
- 11:38tripping everybody up immediately.
- 11:39Yeah.
- 11:40~
- 11:41Mm-hmm.
- 11:42experts over here. I I I like to circle in this sentence 'cause it's such
- 11:47a iconic first random sentence.
- 11:49That they were perfectly normal,
- 11:52thank you very much. But normal is the word that
- 11:58I circled. ~ because like it kind of talks about it's kind
- 12:05of like a thesis on the entire just the one word thesis on the entire series
- 12:09a little bit.
- 12:10Because normal equals bad to
- 12:12Mm.
- 12:13the Dursleys. ~
- 12:16Normal equals good to the Dursleys.
- 12:19But normal to us is bad.
- 12:22Yeah, okay.
- 12:23Like it hmm, that's hard to we're already diving deep.
- 12:26I I c okay, I think I see what you're saying.
- 12:27Their normal is bad.
- 12:28Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
- 12:31Because
- 12:32I guess not accepting of other cultures and stuff.
- 12:34So yeah. I just wrote that down.
- 12:37we got we we talk about Vernon Dursley as the director we find about his job.
- 12:43He's the director of a firm called Grunnings and which is a
- 12:48~ a drill manufacturer. And I just don't get drill manufacturer from
- 12:53the word grunnings. It's probably like a last name of the founder.
- 12:57But I wonder where that came from.
- 13:00he was a big beefy man.
- 13:03Mm-hmm.
- 13:04With hardly any neck. We're talking about his appearance here.
- 13:07Mrs. Dursley was thin and blonde and she had twice the amount of neck.
- 13:13So very different people. I
- 13:17Use for
- 13:17for spying on the neighbors, right?
- 13:19Yeah. I feel like beefy isn't the term
- 13:24I feel like beefy just isn't the right term for Vernon because like he's
- 13:31when you think of beefy, you think American lean beef,
- 13:35like stocky. And I feel like that's what they're going for in the new series.
- 13:40But what we know is that he's a large man.
- 13:44And that's a little bit more than beefy.
- 13:48I would say like porkly. I don't know.
- 13:52O Beefy.
- 13:54O beefy O beefity ~
- 13:56Mm-hmm.
- 13:58man.
- 13:58when I read the way that she's spying on the neighbors,
- 14:02just like it's her part of her daily routine.
- 14:05I just want in the show, the HBO show,
- 14:08I want the narrator to be like the narrator from the great British baking show.
- 14:13I keep going back to that and a couple things.
- 14:16Either that or Ron Howard. From like ~ Rested Development.
- 14:21Just I I just hear the narrator I don't hear Jim Dale anymore,
- 14:25you know.
- 14:26Well, I
- 14:26I sort of get that sense from like the full cast editions from from the
- 14:30Yeah.
- 14:30woman that's doing the narration.
- 14:32At least I've only done the first book so I don't know if she does all of
- 14:35~ But ~ yeah,
- 14:39just it has a very whimsical storybook kind of narration
- 14:43Yeah.
- 14:43to it, within they've got the cast that are doing the lines of dialogue and stuff,
- 14:47but I don't know. That that I've already started like trying to picture
- 14:53the full cast versions with like
- 14:55the HBO show that's coming up just 'cause it feels different.
- 14:57Yeah. Mm-hmm. And some of them are the same cast as that,
- 14:58It's a new cast and I don't know.
- 15:00Yeah.
- 15:02so. ~
- 15:06Yeah, I just want them to shoot it like the Great British Baking Show.
- 15:09Just like not I want there to be a real narrator speaking to us at the beginning.
- 15:14And it's just that's how they frame the mugger world is like narration,
- 15:18like we're watching a like a documentary with a like
- 15:23a nature doc almost.
- 15:27The Dirgleys are are animals, that's what they are.
- 15:29So but yeah.
- 15:40Then they talk about go ahead.
- 15:42Well, ~
- 15:47I d I guess my my I think my notes are a little bit more big picture.
- 15:50So if you're going like page by page,
- 15:52I don't wanna like get ahead of you kind of thing.
- 15:54Okay.
- 15:54All right. Well then I'll just keep going then I guess.
- 15:59Okay, and then then we find out that the Dursleys ~ they have
- 16:06a son named Dudley, who is a in their opinion,
- 16:11no finer boy than him. ~ and that's that's crazy.
- 16:16'Cause we learn that he's a little brat.
- 16:18~ but they're all brats, so. ~ then
- 16:24we find out that the Dursleys have a secret.
- 16:27And the secret is
- 16:30Her sister. Her sister was a witch.
- 16:32Right? And what was her sister?
- 16:35A princess. The wicked witch of the east,
- 16:39bro. Okay, sorry. huh.
- 16:44But yeah, they hadn't talked they were strange.
- 16:46They hadn't talked in several years.
- 16:47And she has a good for nothing husband.
- 16:50And I wrote down a note. I was like,
- 16:53man, seems like they would just love Snape based off of that.
- 16:56~ they were very undersley ish,
- 17:00so not normal. ~ or as Petunia said,
- 17:05the abnormal in the movie.
- 17:08So, yeah.
- 17:14And then they know that the Potters had a small son around the same age as Dudley.
- 17:19that child is Harry Potter, of course.
- 17:22We'll figure that out later. ~
- 17:27And then it takes us over through like sort of like Vernon's daily routine
- 17:30as he's going to work. ~ and I I feel like this is refreshing because especially
- 17:35in the movies, we get the Dursleys inside their house only and maybe
- 17:39Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
- 17:40like at the zoo. But like we never see him going to work,
- 17:43and I think that's gonna be really cool to see in the show.
- 17:46Yeah, I think it's ~
- 17:48it's it's an interesting way to like start out the stories and then like,
- 17:53yeah, we never come back to this.
- 17:54So like when you reread it, yeah.
- 17:54It's like a almost misdirect. Yeah,
- 17:57it's like
- 17:58It's like an int it's more interesting to read about.
- 18:00Yeah.
- 18:00The second time through. Yeah.
- 18:02I had a note here as far as like his day and stuff.
- 18:05'Cause
- 18:05Mm-hmm.
- 18:05he's he's running into strange happenings,
- 18:08you know. He's seeing just,
- 18:13you know, people out in the streets and cloaks and owls and weird circumstances.
- 18:18He's hearing whispers, but like already the way that he's like judging them and
- 18:25That like Rowling is talking about it.
- 18:27Like the wizarding world is already so fleshed out,
- 18:29but we just don't know it yet.
- 18:31And so it it like I said, it it's so cool to reread it,
- 18:34knowing what's going on and everything.
- 18:37But like he just from his perspective,
- 18:40which is most of this chapter,
- 18:42his point of view, is just like,
- 18:43what is going on? Why is everyone out in the streets doing all this weird stuff?
- 18:46I've got drills to focus on. I've got to I've
- 18:49Drills, drills, drills.
- 18:50I've gotta sit with my back.
- 18:52to the window so I can focus on drills,
- 18:54you know, like yeah.
- 18:55Dude. He's committed. What can I say?
- 18:58~ I I think it's an interesting perspective for him too,
- 19:01because he is he's n he knows that that world exists.
- 19:06He's just not like taken aback.
- 19:08He's not in awe by these randos on the street.
- 19:09That and that's true, yeah. Yeah.
- 19:11Yet he's like
- 19:13he doesn't really know that they're they're wizards.
- 19:15He's not making sense of that quite yet.
- 19:17But I I made a note of when he's getting dressed,
- 19:20he he's like
- 19:22He picks out his most bowling tie.
- 19:24And that that
- 19:25Hm.
- 19:25part reminded me of like I also see Harry Potter as like a cartoon.
- 19:30I w hope they do that one day instead of like the HBO series.
- 19:34Although I'm excited for it. ~ but it reminds me of these cartoon characters that,
- 19:39you know, they it's that trope where they open up their closet and they wear
- 19:42the same thing in every episode,
- 19:44but they have like the same outfit.
- 19:45Yeah yeah.
- 19:46that
- 19:46they wear all the time but it's multiple copies.
- 19:48I just imagine him opening his closet and he has the same suit six times over.
- 19:53So
- 19:55I
- 19:56I also feel like it's it's funny,
- 19:59like I feel like Bernard wouldn't say,
- 20:01~ Petunia, get me my most boring tie or anything,
- 20:03but it's like the narrator just commenting on his Yeah.
- 20:04Yeah. It picked his bowringest tie.
- 20:09Mrs. Dersey gossiped away as she wrestled a screaming Dudley into his high chair.
- 20:14So and then this is where the owls come in.
- 20:19And I wanna say, like he goes to work and he sees this cat along
- 20:25the way at the corner of the street.
- 20:28~ when we learn that that is McGonagall and ~
- 20:34For a second he didn't realize what he had seen,
- 20:36but it McGonagall was reading a map trying to figure out where this house is.
- 20:41And he's like,
- 20:44Hold up, that was a cat reading?
- 20:46No, it was just looking. It's not it's not that's not a cat.
- 20:48Yeah. Yeah.
- 20:50I just feel like this interaction in the first episode,
- 20:55I want this like insanity of Vernon Dursley to be
- 20:59Yeah. Mm-hmm.
- 21:01showcased instead of just like the mean,
- 21:03like
- 21:04irate. I d I just want
- 21:05Yeah.
- 21:06him like to like be what? Just like shaking out shaking himself out of it.
- 21:11and then he looks he looks back at
- 21:17it and it just looks like a normal cat.
- 21:19McGonagall's just gaslighting the heck out of this guy.
- 21:22It's so funny. ~ but that would be a really funny exchange in the show.
- 21:27Yeah, and then he talks about drills
- 21:30Drills and more drills. And I just wrote drills,
- 21:33drills, drills. Every time he talks about drills,
- 21:35it's just drills.
- 21:36Yeah.
- 21:39Nothing else to be said except that he yelled at s what,
- 21:42like six different people? Five different people.
- 21:46one of the first hints of this guy sucks
- 21:52is that he's noticing all these people be amazed
- 21:56at owls and like he's he got his desk faced away from the windows.
- 22:04There's so many owls just flying around way more than normal and it's very unusual.
- 22:09And the first little tidbit of like,
- 22:14~ this guy sucks is that he's not going out and like s checking out these owls.
- 22:19It's not every day you get to see owls.
- 22:21I think that's awesome, especially during the daytime.
- 22:23~ it reminds me of this one time that I was at work
- 22:29And the at the big building across the street,
- 22:31it was an apartment complex, and this old lady had a bubble machine
- 22:37on her ~ patio and it was like going on for hours.
- 22:43She was refilling it. Just she was trying
- 22:44Mm-hmm.
- 22:45to fill the intersection up with bubbles and it was
- 22:47Mm-hmm.
- 22:48so whimsical and honestly that's like she's probably a witch.
- 22:52Yeah.
- 22:54But it reminds me of like everybody in our office was like,
- 22:57Do you guys see the bubbles outside?
- 22:59Mm-hmm.
- 23:00And we all just stopped what we were doing and checking out the bubbles.
- 23:04Because yeah, we're gonna go check out the bubbles.
- 23:07Imagine if that was owls. Owls are way cooler than bubbles.
- 23:11Famously.
- 23:13Mm-hmm.
- 23:15I dunno. This guy can't even appreciate the good things in life.
- 23:19Except he does because he goes on his lunch break to get a bun from
- 23:24the bakery across the street. And I just wrote,
- 23:26Treat yourself, Vern
- 23:30~ And then he hears some murmurs and stuff from these other weirdos and he says,
- 23:35like the Potters, that's right,
- 23:37that's what I heard. Their s their son Harry And he's like
- 23:40How do they know who that is? Then he goes on to say,
- 23:42like, I'm in denial. It could be like it could have been not Harry.
- 23:48I don't even know. His name could be Harry.
- 23:50He could it's probably Harvey or Harold
- 23:52And I just mark down like at no point in the nineteen eighties,
- 23:57I guess this is eighty one, where
- 23:59Parents naming their little boys their babies Harold or Harvey.
- 24:05I feel like that's like a post pre nineteen twenties.
- 24:10It has to be.
- 24:11has to be. I mean do you remember our old
- 24:13family car was an Oldsmobile and I
- 24:15Yeah.
- 24:15I named it Harold 'cause I was like,
- 24:17that's an old person's car.
- 24:18An old mobile.
- 24:21No offences to all the Heralds out there,
- 24:24you know.
- 24:24Anyways, he has this day at work and ~ he comes home and he sees this cat again.
- 24:30And he can tell it's the same cat because he has the same markings around its eyes.
- 24:35And I was like, that's kind of a weird thing.
- 24:38is it like her glasses or something?
- 24:40Or I don't know. So I I asked my wife,
- 24:43Abby, who's an avid ~ cat fan,
- 24:46Do you know what a tabby cat is?
- 24:48look like what is what is a tabby cat?
- 24:50I guess we never grew up with cats so I didn't really know what
- 24:53Mm-hmm.
- 24:53that is. And she was like it's sort of like the f the pattern of the
- 24:58fur is what it's called. and I looked it up and the pattern
- 25:04on tabby cats are very distinctive on their foreheads.
- 25:07It's like an shape.
- 25:09Mm-hmm. Okay.
- 25:11And that blew my mind because
- 25:16Her initials are Minerva McGonagle.
- 25:18And tabby cats are famous for having shapes in their fur.
- 25:22Hmm. That is cool. I didn't
- 25:23So
- 25:26that's pretty cool. That's my biggest reveal of the chapter,
- 25:28so we can just close from here.
- 25:29Okay. Yeah, well well let's let's wrap it up.
- 25:29So ~ but yeah.
- 25:31Okay.
- 25:35So that's that's like the first kinda I kind of have this chapter divided
- 25:40up into two sections. Like the first part
- 25:41Mm-hmm.
- 25:42is introducing the Dursleys and and Vernon going to work and kind of seeing
- 25:47all the strange sights. ~ and then him coming back home cuts to that evening,
- 25:53Dumbledore and McGonagall meeting up outside of Private Drive.
- 25:59Mm-hmm.
- 26:01So we find out, I mean you've already we already know ~ McGonagal is
- 26:07the is the tabby cat. She's been hanging around outside the Dursleys
- 26:11all day and she's been just keeping an eye on the place.
- 26:16When Dumbledore shows up at night,
- 26:19there's ~ it's like he just shows up out of nowhere.
- 26:23and you he pulls an object out of his pocket and
- 26:30~ we find we know it's the deluminator as fans of the the series.
- 26:35I don't e what does it call it in the book?
- 26:35Right. It's called the the put outer.
- 26:36The putter putter outer? The put
- 26:38The put outer.
- 26:40And he takes it it sucks in all the street lights on the on the street,
- 26:44so it's it's dark and they have the the cover of darkness to to talk in
- 26:49And
- 26:49private.
- 26:50I am already excited about this because you know,
- 26:53the the s in the movie, that scene is pretty iconic already.
- 26:58'Cause it's just your first glimpse of just walking
- 26:59I think so. Yeah. Mm-hmm.
- 27:02quietly. But like this is like an electric pop.
- 27:05And it's more of like an it's not a graceful like w it's
- 27:10Mm-hmm.
- 27:11a
- 27:13He's like putting
- 27:14Mm-hmm.
- 27:14on he's putting out the light.
- 27:16And
- 27:16Yeah.
- 27:16I think it would be funnier in to update that sound design in the books.
- 27:21Mm-hmm. Yeah. the books.
- 27:21In the in the TV show, sorry.
- 27:25I I just wanna say i our first glimpse of Dumbledore,
- 27:28it made me remember how kooky this guy is.
- 27:31His characters
- 27:32Yeah. Mm-hmm.
- 27:33like definitely in the either Dumbledores that we've seen so far,
- 27:37neither one of are kooky.
- 27:42Yeah. Mm-hmm.
- 27:42I would say
- 27:43the first one, ~ Richard Harris was very old,
- 27:48frail, and he his one thing he's like,
- 27:50~ alas, earwax. That's his only like he's being silly moment.
- 27:55~
- 27:56Yeah.
- 27:57and then Michael Gambon is just like super ~ if
- 28:03I had to describe him, just
- 28:05Horace, mind if I use the loo?
- 28:07Yeah. Just very matter of fact,
- 28:10not exactly like kooky enough.
- 28:11Yeah. I I
- 28:13yeah, I feel like that is an aspect of just how eccentric he is,
- 28:17~ is isn't something they quite got in the in the movie,
- 28:22so
- 28:23Like f on the back, the illustration of the British version,
- 28:29he looks pretty kooky. Like his dress is
- 28:32Yeah.
- 28:33pretty awesome. And there's the put outer right there.
- 28:36There it is. ~ but the stars.
- 28:37It's a pretty cool design. That's all that's
- 28:39the only good things I can say about
- 28:43~ but yeah,
- 28:46Well, you made you
- 28:46I I John
- 28:47Lithgau has a lot of great shoes to fill,
- 28:51but he has his work cut out for him.
- 28:52Like he can just play that role and I think people will be happy with it.
- 28:56It also goes to show how like the books can balance that tone between like darkness,
- 29:01this scene where like, you know,
- 29:04people have been murdered, this child has been orphaned,
- 29:07with just like funny dialogue,
- 29:09like funny scenes, like the humor and the darkness that sometimes
- 29:13th these books kind of balance between.
- 29:15I feel like that's a good example of that,
- 29:18where he's just talking about scars can come in handy,
- 29:20like I've
- 29:20Yeah.
- 29:21got a perfect map of the London underground on my left knee.
- 29:23Two of his
- 29:24students just died. Voldemort also just
- 29:25Yeah. Mm-hmm.
- 29:28died. So he I guess he's just like I guess some good things happen,
- 29:31Yeah. Care for a lemon drop.
- 29:33some things bad things happen.
- 29:35Lemon drops, dude. Okay, I had to look this up.
- 29:38Lemon drops, we know them as like hard candies.
- 29:42~ and like lemon heads.
- 29:46But in the British version it says Sherbert Lemon.
- 29:49Sher Sherbet Lemon. Which we all know is the password to his office
- 29:54in the second one. He loves
- 29:55Of course.
- 29:55lemon flavored candy. But I had to Google what a sherbet lemon was because they
- 30:01had to make that translation. I was like,
- 30:03that's probably just the hard candy.
- 30:05No. It's better. Okay? Americans just have lemon drops,
- 30:11and those are just hard candies made with lemon juice.
- 30:14Boring.
- 30:16Have you ever heard of a Zot?
- 30:19~ I think so. Yeah.
- 30:22Americans have zotz but I don't think there's a lemon version.
- 30:26A Sherbert Lemon is a lemon flavored Zot,
- 30:31which is like has effervescent like sparkling powder inside of it.
- 30:35So it it's a hard candy, but it has like the little white effervescent powder,
- 30:41like fizzy pe like pop rocks basically.
- 30:43Yeah. Mm-hmm. That's what I was thinking.
- 30:46and I love zots and I want sherbet lemon so badly for just from reading this.
- 30:51Hmm.
- 30:52Okay. Okay.
- 30:52~
- 30:53I saw a picture of it, it looked almost creamy and I like,
- 30:55No, that can't be it. But that would also be good.
- 30:57Mm-hmm.
- 31:01So shout out to Zotz. Dumby likes his sweets.
- 31:09Yeah, and then he just like he says Voldemort's name and then just like
- 31:13is fiddling with his lemon drop rappers.
- 31:15Yeah.
- 31:18He's he's kooky. Serious subject.
- 31:20Silly actions.
- 31:27And they say like McGonnell was like,
- 31:29You're ju I know you're the only one that can call him that because you're just
- 31:33as powerful as him, if not more powerful.
- 31:35And he flat out admits like even he does more magic than I can do.
- 31:40You know, I wrote down, like flying
- 31:49So yeah. And we get our first go ahead.
- 31:53I well I I know that I I don't know where you want to put in quotes and stuff.
- 31:59I know we've kind of been sprinkling in,
- 32:01but I feel like a lot of the quotes that I did write down for this b
- 32:04~ chapter was just like Dumbledore's lines like like
- 32:08Yeah.
- 32:10You know, fancy seeing you here,
- 32:12Minerva. ~
- 32:13Yeah.
- 32:14it's lucky it's dark. I haven't blushed this month since this much since Madame
- 32:18Pumphrey said she liked my new earmuffs.
- 32:20He
- 32:20yes. Madame Pomfrey is mentioned in chapter one.
- 32:24Isn't that weird?
- 32:24I never would have guessed that
- 32:25and ch yeah. I mean there's there's just a lot of lotta pieces that
- 32:30are just like name dropped or mentioned here that may
- 32:34Yeah.
- 32:34or may not have like a big story later on or just it's just fleshing
- 32:38out the wizarding world, but you know.
- 32:39It's just like her flexing that,
- 32:40Yeah. Yeah.
- 32:40you know, this world is already built.
- 32:45~ yeah.
- 32:46Do
- 32:47love to say that McGonagal when she turns into her human self,
- 32:53she still has the around her eyes as a as like a wrinkle.
- 32:57So that should be interesting to see in if they do that in the HBO series,
- 33:03that'd be cool. ~ but she's noted as a severe looking woman.
- 33:08I just thought that was really funny.
- 33:11So Maggie Smith?
- 33:12Pretty much, yeah.
- 33:14Mm-hmm.
- 33:16So okay.
- 33:18I know we're
- 33:18making tons of references to the movies.
- 33:20We do want this to be like book focused,
- 33:23but we can't help it. Like Yeah,
- 33:25We're going through the book. What's the ev people can't be mad at us for this.
- 33:26we're going through the book.
- 33:30We're talking about things in the book and then when there's a movie part of it,
- 33:34we talk about that too.
- 33:35I I do feel like, ~ you know,
- 33:38as the conversation progresses,
- 33:39McGonagall's been hanging out there all day watching the Dursleys,
- 33:43but she's also just been hearing the rumors.
- 33:45So she's she wants to talk to Albus to like find out what's what
- 33:48has actually happened and and Dumbledore
- 33:49What's really going on, yeah.
- 33:51does confirm to her that Lily and James Potter did die.
- 33:55~ and so and then
- 33:58He suggests the idea of Harry coming to live with the Dursleys and she's just like,
- 34:03Absolutely not. These are the worst
- 34:04Are you kidding me?
- 34:05these are the worst kinds of people.
- 34:06I've seen, you know, Dudley like kicking his mom up and down the street,
- 34:11like ~
- 34:12Yeah.
- 34:13it's like she he cannot stay here.
- 34:15But Dumbledore has a has a plan.
- 34:20I feel like that's a thing that Rick Ryordan,
- 34:23the author of the Percy Jackson series,
- 34:26may have taken inspiration from.
- 34:28That theme of like the chosen one needs to be protected by these gross people.
- 34:33~ I don't know if you remember you didn't read that book,
- 34:37but ~ you saw the movie
- 34:37I I never read them. I I saw the movie,
- 34:40yeah.
- 34:41and like, you know, his mom was like dating this scuzz ball.
- 34:45Right, yeah.
- 34:46And he
- 34:46smelled so bad in personality that the the whatever he was protected
- 34:53by the monsters. And it's
- 34:55Okay.
- 34:56sort of like same energy with Harry Potter.
- 34:59So with the Dursleys. Also wanna make note of a prop that I would love
- 35:04to see in these in this show is his watch that has all the little planets
- 35:10moving around the edge and it makes sense to him but nobody else.
- 35:13I
- 35:13Mm, yeah.
- 35:14think that would be the coolest thing to
- 35:17see. Like a little metallic planet Exactly.
- 35:17It's like Jack Sparrow's compass that doesn't point north.
- 35:20~
- 35:23and then we get another and then we get another example
- 35:28of Dumbledore being silly in in the midst of seriousness and
- 35:37E even if it's not even supposed to be like that,
- 35:39that this is how I read it. When it he says Dumbledore Well,
- 35:44we may never know how it happened,
- 35:46talking about how Harry survived.
- 35:48And then Dumbledore just gave a great sniff as he took the golden watch.
- 35:54I just imagine that'll just be an awkward like silence and he just goes
- 36:01Hm. Well.
- 36:03I I did
- 36:04yeah. I did notice like more moments that could be more like comedic rereading
- 36:10at this time and especially with number with chapter three.
- 36:13So I'll mention it whenever we talk about chapter three,
- 36:14Yeah. man.
- 36:15but
- 36:17there was a lot of funny moments,
- 36:19I don't know.
- 36:19We need
- 36:19this series to be funny. Because this is
- 36:21I would hope so. Yeah.
- 36:23this is so good.
- 36:24I know that he's putting them with the Dursleys so that he doesn't grow up
- 36:28and get a big head from being famous for something he's never even
- 36:32he wasn't even really there for.
- 36:33and he wants them to have a normal childhood.
- 36:37He doesn't. He has an abusive childhood.
- 36:40~ but like waiting for someone to be eleven so that they could handle it.
- 36:45AKA like the most emotionally unregulated time for a human to be
- 36:53regulating their emotions. Middle school?
- 36:55Are you kidding me? I'm not trying
- 36:56Yeah. Mm-hmm.
- 36:57to know all e I'm not trying to be well rounded,
- 36:59fully developed at eleven years old.
- 37:01Yeah. He's just at he's at
- 37:02school trying to avoid getting the cheese touch at this age.
- 37:07He's Greg Hefley over here at Stonewall
- 37:08Ha ha.
- 37:09High.
- 37:09McGonagall's thing is her first thing when she talks about Hagrid is like
- 37:15you sure you should trust him with that?
- 37:16Like he's bringing Harry Potter here?
- 37:20His heart's in the right place,
- 37:21But yeah, he's kinda clumsy.
- 37:21but he's kinda careless. Yeah.
- 37:25And I said To trust Hagrid with something as important as this and
- 37:29I wrote Shouldn't have said that.
- 37:31I should not have said that.
- 37:34Yeah.
- 37:35Like not keeping secrets.
- 37:37feel like he is very good at taking care of beings like dragon eggs,
- 37:41which we'll find out later. So ~ and then I just want to make note
- 37:47as ~ what is Sirius doing with this huge motorcycle that the giant is writing?
- 37:53Because he's written as way bigger than he looks than I imagine.
- 37:58his hands are the size of trash can lids
- 38:04Mm-hmm. Yeah.
- 38:07And his leather boots are like baby dolphins.
- 38:13~
- 38:13I n
- 38:13I never I've never given a second thought to that.
- 38:16I just figured like, Sirius is cool.
- 38:18He's got a he's this guy with a with
- 38:19He's got a motorcycle.
- 38:20a motorcycle. But he has one that would fit Hagrid.
- 38:22But it but it's
- 38:25literally says huge motorcycle right here.
- 38:27Okay.
- 38:28And it fell out of the air and landed on the road in front of him.
- 38:30And I was just like, first of all,
- 38:32hey Sirius, welcome welcome to the story.
- 38:36~ and he's a young Sirius Black lent it to me,
- 38:36Mm-hmm. Right, yeah. Mm-hmm.
- 38:39I've got him,
- 38:40sir.
- 38:40And we're this is like bleeding into the third one,
- 38:42so spoiler for the third book.
- 38:44~ you think Hagrid could read Sirius's face when during that exchange
- 38:50of the motorcycle? Like that's the night that he supposedly betrayed the Potters.
- 38:57~
- 38:57Mm-hmm.
- 38:59You think he could read it on his face like he's innocent here?
- 39:02Like he's just trying to help,
- 39:04or
- 39:05Like I feel like that's a solid alibi in a court case.
- 39:07Keat th
- 39:08there is a scene in the third one where Hagrid talks about that interaction with
- 39:14him, but I can't remember what he says about it.
- 39:16He just didn't suspect anything about it,
- 39:18you know. ~ but also he was I mean,
- 39:24he didn't do it, so yeah.
- 39:25Yeah. True.
- 39:27~
- 39:28But I was wondering if a lot of the plot could be avoided by there by doing that.
- 39:32I've got a trivia question marked down.
- 39:34We'd like to make note of our trivia questions when we come across
- 39:35Okay. Yeah.
- 39:38them. This one's a classic one.
- 39:39I've actually been asked this in a Harry Potter trivia.
- 39:42What is the shape of Dumbledore's scar on his left knee?
- 39:50That he makes mention of. And that answer would be a map of the London under.
- 39:56I wrote down a few too.
- 39:58Okay.
- 39:59what was the new word that Dudley Dursley learned in the chapter?
- 40:02Won't
- 40:03Yeah.
- 40:05That's a pretty sophisticated word for a one year old.
- 40:07Yeah,
- 40:08yeah.
- 40:08~
- 40:08who did McGonagall think was responsible for the shooting stars and Kent?
- 40:14Diddle Diggle
- 40:16Such a great name.
- 40:17What a weird individual.
- 40:19he's mentioned in this book even further and he's in the rest of the books.
- 40:24But he's just like one of those side characters that you're just like,
- 40:29I've heard this name before, but I don't know where he's from.
- 40:31~
- 40:31Mm-hmm.
- 40:32Diddle Stiggle is a wizard in the member of the Order of the Phoenix
- 40:36who fought in the first and the second Wizarding War,
- 40:39and he's sort of like presumably
- 40:41instructed by Dumbledore to keep watch on Harry in his early life.
- 40:46and we kinda see that in the next chapter,
- 40:51which we won't get to, but and then he's at the end when he escorts
- 40:56the Dursleys away. spoiler
- 41:02So But yeah.
- 41:03Yeah.
- 41:04He's just he wears a purple top hat and he's very small.
- 41:11Eccentric young fella.
- 41:12Mm-hmm.
- 41:13and then Hagrid starts crying and sobbing.
- 41:15And I feel like I want to take a tally of how many times this
- 41:20man just starts crying out of nowhere.
- 41:23Because I feel like he cries a lot in this series.
- 41:25He's emotional man.
- 41:26He's very emotional. He knew stand it.
- 41:32Lily and James did. Yeah.
- 41:35So but yeah, then we've got our last page of the chapter.
- 41:41we've got them placing little baby Harry on the doorstep,
- 41:45all wrapped up and swaddled, just sleeping so peacefully.
- 41:49I love this little last paragraph.
- 41:51It's so calming and
- 41:51Mm-hmm.
- 41:53like
- 41:54This is his like last final bit of piece in the series,
- 41:58cause like he's not very he's always got something going on from here on
- 42:02Mm-hmm.
- 42:02out,
- 42:02But I made note of like one small hand closed on the letter.
- 42:06I just thought that was so cute.
- 42:06Yeah. Holding a letter,
- 42:08I just thought the image of a little baby sleeping with a little letter.
- 42:12Just like, here you go. So I love that.
- 42:12yeah. Mm hmm. Please take care of me.
- 42:18And then we've got our last final sentence,
- 42:21He couldn't know that at this very moment people meeting in secret
- 42:25all over the country were holding up their glasses and saying in hushed voices
- 42:29to Harry Potter, the boy who lived.
- 42:33Boy who lives
- 42:34Here, here. And that, my friends,
- 42:38concludes chapter one.
- 42:41My my last note here for for for
- 42:45the chapter was it says that Petunia discovers
- 42:51him the next morning, like while
- 42:53He just spent the night out there,
- 42:55dude.
- 42:57when the milkman was delivering milk bottles,
- 43:00and I my note was like, What is this,
- 43:01the nineteen fifties? Like, is this a thing?
- 43:04That's probably another Britishism.
- 43:05It must be because in another chapter
- 43:05In the eighties
- 43:08it said like they were bringing the
- 43:10Like the dairy man was bringing the eggs.
- 43:12So I don't know. But I did think it was funny that like
- 43:13Dude. Okay. In England is it
- 43:18Dumbledore and McGonagall didn't bother to like just ring the doorbell and ditch.
- 43:23Like they just left out there all night.
- 43:25They should have rung the doorbell,
- 43:26at least given
- 43:26Yeah.
- 43:27a night. They were like, Let's give this guy a break.
- 43:30He's had a hard day. Let's let them sleep.
- 43:32Yeah, that's true. Like
- 43:33you said, it was like his last moment of peace,
- 43:35you know, for the next rest of his
- 43:36Yeah. I was talking about Vernon,
- 43:38but yeah, I guess Harry.
- 43:41Okay, so I looked it up and it says,
- 43:42yes it was incredibly common to have a milkman in England in nineteen eighty one.
- 43:47Okay, do you have any other f last minute notes for this chapter that we didn't go
- 43:51Well, ~
- 43:52over?
- 43:52so I for my thoughts, I was saving the HBO stuff in my mind,
- 43:57at least for like the end of the the episode,
- 43:59Mm-hmm.
- 43:59but you kinda sprinkled yours in already.
- 44:02but I I'll I'll just go ahead and say what I'm looking forward
- 44:06to most being represented from this chapter is I think
- 44:12my answer is always gonna be like whatever we didn't see in the movies,
- 44:16I wanna see in the show. Which is probably isn't the greatest answer.
- 44:20So
- 44:20Yeah.
- 44:21Truly what I do hope they really focus on is the Dursleys in this series as a whole.
- 44:27And it starts
- 44:28Mm-hmm.
- 44:28with this chapter, but I feel like that's something that got really cut
- 44:33out of ~ of the movies. Like there
- 44:36Mm-hmm.
- 44:37were some movies the Dursleys didn't even show up.
- 44:39So I think it's very I
- 44:40That was sad, yeah.
- 44:42think it's very key that we get you know,
- 44:44y maybe you don't I understand you have to a adapt to the material,
- 44:48but I do I am looking forward to seeing
- 44:51Some of this ~ some of this stuff like I I really do wanna see Vernon go to work.
- 44:57Like I wanna see that for the first time.
- 44:59~ yeah.
- 45:01think
- 45:01our our issue ~ with the movies
- 45:03And I I think we will
- 45:04get that based on the trailer from some of the clips I've seen
- 45:07I think so too.
- 45:08so far.
- 45:09I think we finally like in the movies we never really leave the POV of Harry.
- 45:15And since we know the story so well and we've read
- 45:18Mm-hmm.
- 45:18the book, like I don't think we care about the POV of Harry as much in the series.
- 45:23~
- 45:23Yeah.
- 45:24and I think with a different stylistic choice of maybe like doing
- 45:29the Great British Baking show,
- 45:30just making it funnier and kookier.
- 45:32~ I think it would be easy
- 45:35To like you know how in in like he brings him he gives him his leftover socks
- 45:41for Christmas. Like he brings them up throughout the year,
- 45:43like he's like, the Dursleys. I think it'd be cool to have like a quick
- 45:47cut to him finding something in his sock drawer and just like,
- 45:52~ alright. Like him fighting off an owl 'cause the owl is trying to he's like
- 45:52Like a flashback scene. Like
- 46:00I think it would be cool to see all that.
- 46:02~ and I think they're gonna do that too.
- 46:03Yeah.
- 46:04Yeah. Okay.
- 46:09Alright. and to wrap up this chapter,
- 46:11we like to do this little segment at the end of every episode.
- 46:14A new tradition for Inside Quotes Book Club.
- 46:17~ every tradition's a new tradition,
- 46:21because it's the first episode.
- 46:22But we got a little segment called
- 46:29Anything off the troll ideas where we spin
- 46:34a wheel
- 46:35~
- 46:41of certain wizarding snacks,
- 46:44which the only wizarding snack that we've seen so far is a sherbet lemon,
- 46:47and we don't even have that, so whatever.
- 46:49And but we've got Birdie Bot's Every Flavor Beans,
- 46:54we've got peppermint toads, chocolate frogs,
- 46:57Druble's best blowing gum.
- 47:00Fizzing whisbies, fudge flies,
- 47:02and exploding bonbons. And we thought it'd be fun to do a wheel because already
- 47:08Birdie Bots Every Flavor Beans is already a roulette.
- 47:10So
- 47:11Mm-hmm.
- 47:13if I have every other option on this as a birdie bots.
- 47:17So, and I have one little tiny sliver right here in black that
- 47:23Okay. Okay. Yeah.
- 47:23is the chocolate frog because there's they're huge.
- 47:26And if we land
- 47:27on that precisely.
- 47:28We have to eat the whole frog.
- 47:29On camera.
- 47:30We have to eat the whole frog.
- 47:31No, no. That'd be like diabetes.
- 47:34Mukbang. ~ and then on the each side of the ~ chocolate frog
- 47:40is more birdie bots.
- 47:41Okay. Okay.
- 47:42we are more likely to enjoy a birdie bots.
- 47:45Or throw up from a birdie bots.
- 47:47So shall I give the
- 47:48We stocked up on
- 47:49~ Honey Duke's before the before the series here.
- 47:51We sure did. Target has a drop.
- 47:52Mm-hmm.
- 47:53So if you want
- 47:54some of your snacks and follow along with us,
- 47:56go to Target. Get some snacks.
- 47:57Harry Potter themes. I did see that they had a Sherbet Lemon Kit Kat.
- 48:03But that wasn't like canon, so I just we were like,
- 48:04yeah, yeah. Yeah.
- 48:07well let's just get the stuff from the books.
- 48:08So let me let's go for it.
- 48:13Okay.
- 48:17Ooh.
- 48:20my goodness. I think we're at Birdie we're at Birdie Bots.
- 48:23Is that a birdie bot? Okay.
- 48:25Yeah.
- 48:26Alright. That was almost a f chocolate frog out right off the rip.
- 48:29On the first one.
- 48:32It's only fitting to start out.
- 48:33If you remember our first episode of ~ Sorcerer Stone back in twenty twenty two.
- 48:40I did not have a good experience with I think what was it,
- 48:44the vomit flavor?
- 48:46I don't know what we got. S there was like a sausage one that was disgusting.
- 48:47pretty sure I vomited on camera.
- 48:49That was was gross. Okay. Alright,
- 48:50Yeah. I I've got the key here.
- 48:54so I'm not gonna look. You you don't look either.
- 48:56Okay.
- 48:59I'm gonna pick one and this is it.
- 49:05It is plain white.
- 49:07I do not like the look of this one.
- 49:09my goodness, I think I got rotten egg already.
- 49:11~ or earwax.
- 49:14Mm.
- 49:15This is not a good start. I think you got lemon.
- 49:18It doesn't
- 49:20it's like kinda orangeish, but it doesn't look gross like a vomit.
- 49:25It's almost
- 49:26fitting to do lemon for this chapter.
- 49:28I
- 49:28We'll see.
- 49:29pretty sure I got rotten egg.
- 49:31Okay. Well, here we go.
- 49:33This is not good. ~
- 49:36my goodness.
- 49:40That was vomit. That was vomit.
- 49:46I can't finish that, I'm sorry.
- 49:47How do we both get gross w-mm
- 49:52I
- 50:06I regret this segment already.
- 50:10I do too. That was so nasty.
- 50:12I'm looking forward to okay, do you wanna make it a rule where we can't repeat
- 50:16the same one? So if you pick one up,
- 50:19it can't be vomit.
- 50:21I'm just trying to find a good one to wash it down with.
- 50:24I just I'm gonna give up. Let's find a lemon.
- 50:28Nope.
- 50:30I grabbed a blueberry out of there.
- 50:31You have to respect the wheel,
- 50:33Jonathan.
- 50:33Sorry.
- 50:36Well
- 50:38Yeah, we do we do have some of the other snacks here.
- 50:40I'm just gonna show real quick.
- 50:42We got the
- 50:43Okay.
- 50:43the exploding bonbons. the chocolate frog.
- 50:50Peppermint toads.
- 50:54Fudge flies and fizzing whisbies.
- 50:58I've had fizzing whisbies at the Universal Park and they were my favorite.
- 51:04Although those were chocolate raspberry and these seem like to
- 51:09be a different flavor, so I don't really know.
- 51:11So we will find out. Next week.
- 51:13Well yeah, hopefully
- 51:15the the wheel will land on on something a little better next time.
- 51:18~ so we'll be doing chapter two,
- 51:21The Vanishing Glass, and we'll see how Harry's life with the Jerseys
