- 0:02Speaker 1: In the early morning hours of October fifth, twenty twenty,
- 0:06Speaker 1: a twenty three year old woman was captured leaving a
- 0:08Speaker 1: popular area for bars and clubs with an unknown man.
- 0:13Speaker 1: The woman, Marisella Betello Valadez, was from out of town.
- 0:18Speaker 1: She had only just met the man whose vehicle she
- 0:20Speaker 1: has shown climbing into. But Marisella had been locked out
- 0:24Speaker 1: of her friend's apartment. She had nowhere to go, and
- 0:27Speaker 1: the man she meets is charming. He seems cool, he
- 0:31Speaker 1: isn't pushy. What Marisella is about to find out is
- 0:34Speaker 1: that it isn't just this charming stranger that she needs
- 0:37Speaker 1: to worry about. It is the other people at his
- 0:40Speaker 1: house and the other women in his life. Hi everyone,
- 0:47Speaker 1: I'm Kevin and welcome to Just Thought Lounge. Today's case
- 0:51Speaker 1: ends in a very different place from where it begins.
- 0:54Speaker 1: It is a case that has more than a few oddities.
- 0:57Speaker 1: A disappearance and international manhunt, a love triangle, possible witchcraft,
- 1:02Speaker 1: and many many lies. Let's take a look. On October fifth,
- 1:21Speaker 1: twenty twenty, Marisella Betello valades was booked on a flight
- 1:25Speaker 1: from Dallas, Texas, back to her hometown of Seattle, Washington.
- 1:30Speaker 1: The twenty three year old had just spent a long
- 1:32Speaker 1: weekend visiting an old friend and one time boyfriend, Raoul
- 1:36Speaker 1: or Tease. But as her flight boarded that day, Marisella
- 1:40Speaker 1: was not amongst the passengers. Her name could be heard
- 1:44Speaker 1: on the intercom across the airport terminal. Marisella Betello Valades
- 1:50Speaker 1: reports to the gate for boarding. When the plane finally
- 1:53Speaker 1: took off, Marisella's assigned seat sat empty. Back in Washington,
- 1:59Speaker 1: her parents and younger brother worried. Marosella was a supportive
- 2:04Speaker 1: and loving older sister, a fun, sweet and hard working daughter.
- 2:08Speaker 1: She was a young woman that her parents were very
- 2:10Speaker 1: proud of. Concerns over a missed flight quickly turned into
- 2:14Speaker 1: fears that the worst had happened. Her friend, Raoul awoke
- 2:20Speaker 1: at home in Dallas to find that Marisella had not
- 2:23Speaker 1: returned to his apartment the night before. He didn't know
- 2:27Speaker 1: where she was. Raoul told police that he had partied
- 2:31Speaker 1: a bit too much the night before. He had misplaced
- 2:34Speaker 1: his keys, then passed out in front of his apartment door,
- 2:37Speaker 1: awaiting his roommate's return home to let him inside. Marisella,
- 2:42Speaker 1: not willing to wait at the doorstep, had ordered a
- 2:44Speaker 1: lift ride. At around one a m. She went back
- 2:48Speaker 1: out on the town on her own. Marisella was dropped
- 2:54Speaker 1: off in a deep ellam where the drinking, dancing, and
- 2:57Speaker 1: partying at the bars in late night clubs was still
- 3:00Speaker 1: going at full steam. A security camera fixed to the
- 3:03Speaker 1: back of one club, the Punk Society, angled towards a
- 3:06Speaker 1: large parking lot, captured Marisella walking alongside an unidentified man.
- 3:12Speaker 1: In footage from another camera at a distance farther away,
- 3:15Speaker 1: the two were captured again walking towards a vehicle. The
- 3:19Speaker 1: car was later determined to be a twenty fourteen blackouty
- 3:23Speaker 1: A three. Marisella got into the car with the unknown
- 3:27Speaker 1: man with no audio available for the footage and little
- 3:31Speaker 1: more to go on. It was unclear at that point
- 3:34Speaker 1: whether she chose to get into the vehicle willingly or not.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Days later, there had been no further activity on Marisella's
- 3:43Speaker 1: credit or debit cards. Calls and texts to her cell
- 3:47Speaker 1: phone from worried family members and friends went unanswered. Family
- 3:52Speaker 1: told police in Dallas County that Marisella would not have
- 3:55Speaker 1: chosen to get into a vehicle with a strange man
- 3:58Speaker 1: outside of a nightclub, so at first investigators entertained the
- 4:03Speaker 1: possibility that they were dealing with a kidnapping, that is,
- 4:07Speaker 1: until they managed to track the Black Audi from the
- 4:09Speaker 1: parking lot. At one twenty eight a m. The car's
- 4:13Speaker 1: driver and Marisela Batello entered a seven eleven. She was
- 4:18Speaker 1: captured in a still image coming through the door. Smiling,
- 4:21Speaker 1: Marisella walked towards the coolers and selected a drink to purchase.
- 4:26Speaker 1: It appeared from the footage that the young woman was
- 4:29Speaker 1: not in fact being held or led anywhere against her will.
- 4:34Speaker 1: License plate readers set up across the city caught the
- 4:37Speaker 1: registration of the Black Audi. When the car ownership was
- 4:41Speaker 1: checked against the driver license photo of the man in
- 4:44Speaker 1: the seven eleven, there was a match. Thirty one year
- 4:49Speaker 1: old Charles Chuck, a beltran, worked door security at a
- 4:53Speaker 1: club in the deep Elam area near to where he
- 4:56Speaker 1: had encountered Marisella. Chuck was a convicted felon. He served
- 5:01Speaker 1: two and a half years for aggravated robbery with an
- 5:03Speaker 1: unloaded firearm after he pistol whipped a man and took
- 5:07Speaker 1: his wallet. When investigators checked the GPS data from Marcella's
- 5:11Speaker 1: cell phone, they found that her last known location corresponded
- 5:15Speaker 1: with the home address registered to the AUDI. It was
- 5:19Speaker 1: the home of Charles Beltran. She had gone home with
- 5:22Speaker 1: him willingly and had not been seen or heard from since.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Special Agent Taylor Page from the Dallas FBI office was
- 5:33Speaker 1: assigned to assist Dallas County with the investigation. On the
- 5:37Speaker 1: afternoon of October fourteenth, a week and a half after
- 5:40Speaker 1: Marisella was last seen alive, Agent Page, alongside uniformed officers
- 5:45Speaker 1: and a county detective, visited Chuck's address in Mesquite, a
- 5:50Speaker 1: roughly twenty minute drive from deep Elum. When the agent
- 5:59Speaker 1: received no in answer at the door, he decided to
- 6:01Speaker 1: call the leaseholder of the house, a woman named Lisa Diykes.
- 6:11Speaker 1: When Lisa answered the call, she told Agent Page that
- 6:14Speaker 1: she had not seen Chuck in weeks. When asked to
- 6:17Speaker 1: clarify the nature of her relationship with the young Felon,
- 6:20Speaker 1: she refused. Lisa stated that she has no way of
- 6:24Speaker 1: reaching Chuck, nor did she have any information regarding his whereabouts.
- 6:29Speaker 2: He is not a suspect. He's currently a person of
- 6:32Speaker 2: interest regarding this case because we know that he was
- 6:35Speaker 2: the last person to have been seen with her and
- 6:38Speaker 2: to speak with her and We would just like the
- 6:40Speaker 2: person to give us a call, let us know you're
- 6:44Speaker 2: not a suspect. We just need some information.
- 6:48Speaker 3: Too much time is passing, and I'm afraid something has
- 6:51Speaker 3: happened to her. If they could find it in their
- 6:53Speaker 3: heart to tell where he is, I wouldn't want them
- 6:55Speaker 3: to be suffering the pain I'm going through. It's very
- 6:58Speaker 3: difficult not knowing any thing. This hurts so much. I
- 7:02Speaker 3: can't stop thinking about her and ask God to protect
- 7:05Speaker 3: her and that nothing bad has happened earth. I pray
- 7:09Speaker 3: every day for any news about her.
- 7:13Speaker 1: While law enforcement searched for Chuck, they also obtained a
- 7:16Speaker 1: warrant to enter the house, the last known location of
- 7:19Speaker 1: Marisella Botello. It appeared that the home had been cleared
- 7:23Speaker 1: out for a move and very quickly. Belongings were left
- 7:27Speaker 1: scattered on floors of closets, covered doors left open, and
- 7:31Speaker 1: pieces of trash discarded on the floor's encounters. A mattress
- 7:35Speaker 1: was leaning against a wall in the front hallway. It
- 7:39Speaker 1: was unclear how long the house had been essentially abandoned,
- 7:43Speaker 1: but it appeared that during that time, the ceiling above
- 7:46Speaker 1: the master bedroom had caved in, leaving piles of insulation
- 7:50Speaker 1: on the chest of drawers and floor below. The kitchen
- 7:54Speaker 1: in particular, was left in a state of chaos, with
- 7:57Speaker 1: leftover food and cleaning supplies sitting out. It was as
- 8:01Speaker 1: though the occupants had simply dropped everything and walked out
- 8:05Speaker 1: the door, intending never to return. Law enforcement also documented
- 8:11Speaker 1: a curious miniature statue set up as a kind of
- 8:14Speaker 1: shrine inside the Mesquite home, although at that time they
- 8:18Speaker 1: did not assign any significance to it. Later, the figure
- 8:22Speaker 1: was identified as Santa Maurte, a kind of female grim reaper.
- 8:27Speaker 1: She is the personification of death and worshiped in folk
- 8:30Speaker 1: Mexican Catholicism as well as new forms of paganism. The
- 8:37Speaker 1: liquid chemical mixture known as blue star, which is used
- 8:40Speaker 1: to detect the presence of blood, was sprayed by crime
- 8:43Speaker 1: scene technicians throughout the house. In what was thought to
- 8:48Speaker 1: be the guest bathroom, a small area along the door
- 8:51Speaker 1: frame and in the bathtub glowed blue in the darkened room,
- 8:55Speaker 1: indicating a positive reaction to blood. The area of greatest
- 9:00Speaker 1: interest was in the guest bedroom, the one that was
- 9:03Speaker 1: later confirmed to be Chuck Beltrans. In this room, an
- 9:08Speaker 1: area of carpet just below the window had been cleaned.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Despite the obvious attempts to cover the stains, red and
- 9:14Speaker 1: brown colored streaks showed through. When the blue star was
- 9:18Speaker 1: applied to this area, it returned a positive indication of blood.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Testing of the carpet sample confirmed what the investigative team
- 9:27Speaker 1: had suspected. The blood was that of Marisella Batello. There
- 9:33Speaker 1: were two more blood profiles found on the carpet, one
- 9:36Speaker 1: male and one female. These were thought to be from
- 9:40Speaker 1: the three individuals who lived in the house, Chuck Beltran,
- 9:45Speaker 1: Lisa Dikes, or possibly Lisa's wife, Nina Morano. Investigators needed
- 9:54Speaker 1: to locate the leasehold Lisa Dikes urgently. Speaking with those
- 9:59Speaker 1: who knew Lisa, they had learned of an interesting arrangement
- 10:02Speaker 1: in the household. Lisa had worked as a paralegal in
- 10:05Speaker 1: the field of litigation negotiations for over thirty years. During
- 10:10Speaker 1: that time, she had been married three times and raised
- 10:13Speaker 1: three children. The youngest, twenty year old Chelsea, had been
- 10:17Speaker 1: unceremoniously kicked out of the house, reportedly to move Chuck
- 10:21Speaker 1: Beltran in. According to Lisa's officemate at her law firm,
- 10:25Speaker 1: Lisa had stated that she needed her children out of
- 10:28Speaker 1: the house. So that she could live the life she wants,
- 10:32Speaker 1: and that life apparently included living with the thirty one
- 10:36Speaker 1: year old bar bouncer and aspiring rapper. Chuck had his
- 10:41Speaker 1: own bedroom, as well as a workspace a studio room
- 10:44Speaker 1: which included a closet covered in acoustic foam for recording
- 10:48Speaker 1: his rap vocals. Lisa purchased Chuck a car, the Blackouty
- 10:52Speaker 1: A three, She registered a business for him called Math Class,
- 10:57Speaker 1: and she funded his music videos. One such video was
- 11:01Speaker 1: recorded in the driveway of the home in Mesquite. Both
- 11:14Speaker 1: Lisa's legal colleague as well as her longtime hairstylist and friend,
- 11:18Speaker 1: told investigators that the nature of Lisa's relationship with Chuck
- 11:22Speaker 1: was clear. She was his sugar mama and she was
- 11:26Speaker 1: proud of it. She enjoyed speaking about how she was
- 11:30Speaker 1: able to financially support him, as well as other parts
- 11:33Speaker 1: of their relationship. Their arrangement, such as it was, remained
- 11:39Speaker 1: in place even after. In twenty nineteen, the fifty six
- 11:42Speaker 1: year old married her best friend, the recently widowed forty
- 11:46Speaker 1: eight year old lawyer from Staten Island, Nina Morano. According
- 11:51Speaker 1: to these same sources, Lisa's marriage was also a sort
- 11:55Speaker 1: of financial arrangement. Nina had been left a healthy inheritance
- 11:59Speaker 1: from her late husband. She also had a successful career
- 12:03Speaker 1: as a lawyer in New York and made a good living.
- 12:07Speaker 1: After the wedding, Nina maintained some of her work near
- 12:10Speaker 1: New York, as well as a second home in Pennsylvania.
- 12:14Speaker 1: It seemed that Nina was also introduced into the arrangement
- 12:17Speaker 1: with Chuck. She moved in with them to the house
- 12:20Speaker 1: in Mesquite. Not only that, but when it came time
- 12:24Speaker 1: to choose a common surname, she and Lisa rejected their
- 12:28Speaker 1: own and instead became legally known as Lisa and Nina Beltran.
- 12:35Speaker 1: In the early morning hours of October five, twenty twenty,
- 12:38Speaker 1: the day Marisella Batello went missing, cell phone data placed
- 12:42Speaker 1: all three residents at the house with Marisella, and arrest
- 12:47Speaker 1: warrant for capital murder was drawn up for all three individuals,
- 12:51Speaker 1: Charles Beltran, Lisa Dykes, and Nina Moreno. The house cleared
- 12:57Speaker 1: out in phones going unanswered, the location of all three
- 13:01Speaker 1: was unknown. Phone records for Lisa and Nina from the
- 13:09Speaker 1: night of October fifth showed that both devices traveled from
- 13:12Speaker 1: the house to an area south of Dallas near Hutchins, Texas.
- 13:18Speaker 1: The area is densely wooded and close to several bodies
- 13:21Speaker 1: of water. Dozens of personnel from various law enforcement agencies
- 13:25Speaker 1: began systematically searching this area for possible remains of Marisella
- 13:32Speaker 1: throughout November twenty twenty. Searches continued in areas isolated by
- 13:36Speaker 1: the women's cellular data. Five months later, in March twenty
- 13:41Speaker 1: twenty one, a person reportedly attempting to track feral cats
- 13:46Speaker 1: came across what they believed to be a human skull
- 13:49Speaker 1: in a wooded area not far from Hutchins, near to
- 13:53Speaker 1: where law enforcement had searched months earlier. Dental records confirmed
- 13:59Speaker 1: that the remains were those of Marisella Botello Valades after
- 14:07Speaker 1: exposure to animals and the elements, the medical examiner was
- 14:11Speaker 1: unable to determine a cause of death from the partially
- 14:14Speaker 1: recovered remains. Two days later, law enforcement in Miami, Florida,
- 14:21Speaker 1: tracked down Nina Morano Beltran and made an arrest. She
- 14:26Speaker 1: and wife Lisa had rented a home in the area,
- 14:29Speaker 1: though after Nina was apprehended, Lisa had once again taken off.
- 14:35Speaker 1: At that stage, there was no sign of Chuck. Lisa
- 14:42Speaker 1: remained in contact with Chuck during this time. Text message
- 14:46Speaker 1: exchanges showed that they continued to hide from law enforcement,
- 14:49Speaker 1: even while Lisa tried to arrange a lawyer for Nina,
- 14:52Speaker 1: who was being held in a Florida County jail. Can
- 14:57Speaker 1: you send money? I need to switch vehicles. They got
- 15:01Speaker 1: warrants for capital murder on all three of us. Supposedly
- 15:06Speaker 1: they found her, but the attorney said they are building
- 15:10Speaker 1: a case. They don't have evidence. They are guessing. I'm
- 15:16Speaker 1: hoping she keeps her shit together. I need to get
- 15:20Speaker 1: out of this state real quick. How much money do
- 15:23Speaker 1: you need? How much can you send? A few days
- 15:32Speaker 1: after arresting Nina in Miami, Lisa was located just outside
- 15:36Speaker 1: of Orlando. The team, well protected and armed, prepared to
- 15:40Speaker 1: arrest the now fifty seven year old paralegal and have
- 15:43Speaker 1: her extradited back to Texas. They attract the couple, who
- 15:48Speaker 1: continued to drive the registered vehicles across the border to
- 15:51Speaker 1: Mexico and then around several states before arriving in Florida.
- 15:58Speaker 1: After receiving the call from Agent Page, Lisa had taken
- 16:01Speaker 1: a series of steps to avoid arrest. She and Nina
- 16:05Speaker 1: contacted a neighbor who is also a realtor in Pennsylvania,
- 16:09Speaker 1: and placed Nina's house for sale. The proceeds would presumably
- 16:13Speaker 1: help fund their attempts to flee justice. Then they arranged
- 16:18Speaker 1: for Chuck's AUDI to be shipped to Pennsylvania as well,
- 16:21Speaker 1: perhaps thought investigators because the vehicle was wanted in connection
- 16:25Speaker 1: to Marcella's murder. When law enforcement knocked on the door
- 16:30Speaker 1: to arrest Lisa Dyke's beltrand, she was on the phone
- 16:34Speaker 1: with her lawyer. By May, Lisa and Nina were back
- 16:38Speaker 1: in Texas. Each posted five hundred thousand dollars bonds and
- 16:42Speaker 1: were released with ankle monitors on house arrest. They faced
- 16:46Speaker 1: charges of capital murder in addition to tampering with evidence.
- 16:50Speaker 1: Chuck had also been apprehended. Law enforcement found him in Utah,
- 16:54Speaker 1: staying with the family of an ex girlfriend who is
- 16:57Speaker 1: also the mother to one of his children. Lisa and
- 17:01Speaker 1: Nina followed the conditions of their release for months, from
- 17:04Speaker 1: May twenty twenty one through to December of that year.
- 17:08Speaker 1: Then they planned to run. At seven thirty am on
- 17:12Speaker 1: Christmas morning, both ankle monitors were disabled roughly four minutes apart.
- 17:18Speaker 1: Taking advantage of the holiday and the underresourced department of
- 17:21Speaker 1: Dallas Pre Trial Services, The women were able to evade
- 17:25Speaker 1: detection for two full days. On December twenty seventh, pre
- 17:30Speaker 1: Trial Services became aware that the monitors had been disabled.
- 17:34Speaker 1: By that time, Lisa and Nina had boarded a plane
- 17:37Speaker 1: and traveled roughly nine thousand miles. Tickets to Seoul, South Korea,
- 17:43Speaker 1: and then onwards to Panan, Penn, the capital of Cambodia,
- 17:47Speaker 1: were issued in their names. Immigration officials in Cambodia confirmed
- 17:52Speaker 1: that the couple had entered the country and had not
- 17:54Speaker 1: continued on from there. The FBI office in Dallas was
- 18:00Speaker 1: yet again pulled into the investigation. Coordinating with Cambodian officials
- 18:04Speaker 1: as well as the country's largest bank, agents were able
- 18:08Speaker 1: to track cash withdrawals made by Lisa and Nina atm
- 18:12Speaker 1: Camera footage from one such cash spot captured the license
- 18:16Speaker 1: plate of the vehicle dropping the women off at the machine.
- 18:20Speaker 1: From there, local officials found the vehicle, a taxi and
- 18:24Speaker 1: its driver, who directed them to the address where two
- 18:27Speaker 1: foreign women were staying in the seaside town of sahank
- 18:31Speaker 1: Full Lisa and Nina Beltrand were apprehended once more They
- 18:36Speaker 1: were extradited back to Texas in February of twenty twenty two.
- 18:40Speaker 1: This time they were held in custody. Trial dates for
- 18:47Speaker 1: both women were set for twenty twenty three. Both pleaded
- 18:51Speaker 1: not guilty to the murder. At that stage, it was
- 18:54Speaker 1: clear that the women had played some role in the
- 18:56Speaker 1: death of Marisella Batello, but what had not been revealed
- 19:00Speaker 1: was what motive they may have had. It also remained
- 19:03Speaker 1: a mystery what had actually taken place inside of Charles
- 19:06Speaker 1: Beltrand's bedroom that night. By the time that the first
- 19:12Speaker 1: of the scheduled trials commenced, that of Lisa Dikes, Chuck
- 19:16Speaker 1: had decided to cooperate with the die's office. He offered
- 19:20Speaker 1: to testify and to tell a jury what he claimed
- 19:23Speaker 1: was the truth of what happened to Marisella. It was
- 19:27Speaker 1: Lisa Dykes, in what he assumed was a jealous rage,
- 19:31Speaker 1: that had entered his bedroom that night, Finding the twenty
- 19:35Speaker 1: three year old asleep in his bed next to him,
- 19:37Speaker 1: Lisa had stabbed her to death. He awoke it during
- 19:41Speaker 1: the act while Lisa straddled Marisella. Nina entered the room
- 19:45Speaker 1: after the attack had taken place, recognizing that Marisella was
- 19:50Speaker 1: no longer alive. Chuck told police that he had run
- 19:53Speaker 1: from the house, leaving behind his two girlfriends in the
- 19:56Speaker 1: bloodied room with the young woman that he had brought
- 19:59Speaker 1: home with him only a few hours before.
- 20:04Speaker 4: The conclusion of the evidence.
- 20:06Speaker 1: I know of the conclusion of the evidence.
- 20:08Speaker 4: What you are going to decide is that this young
- 20:11Speaker 4: lady right here, sweet fund letting Marisela the televalad is
- 20:19Speaker 4: it just came down here for a long weekend, was
- 20:24Speaker 4: killed by Lisa Dykes.
- 20:26Speaker 1: Her body dumped.
- 20:30Speaker 4: Outside south of Dallas and Wilmer on a country road
- 20:35Speaker 4: by Miss Dykes and her wife, Nina Morano.
- 20:40Speaker 1: Lisa Dike's defense team argued that she had no motive
- 20:43Speaker 1: to kill Marcella. She had never even met her. Lisa
- 20:47Speaker 1: was not a jealous sugar mama who was overcome with
- 20:49Speaker 1: rage when Chuck brought Marcella home with him. Far from it,
- 20:53Speaker 1: She claimed that they had no romantic relationship. She had
- 20:57Speaker 1: never once expressed a jealousy over similar behavior your by Chuck,
- 21:00Speaker 1: which had been frequent. Chuck called himself Chuck gorgeous and
- 21:05Speaker 1: Chuck fifty to fifty. According to the defense, the fifty
- 21:09Speaker 1: to fifty stood for fifty percent amazing and fifty percent crazy.
- 21:14Speaker 5: Missus Dox's gonna tell you she's never met Moselle, She's
- 21:20Speaker 5: never met this na, and she could care less about
- 21:23Speaker 5: the women that Charles.
- 21:25Speaker 6: Was having at that house.
- 21:28Speaker 5: He was a rapper that she was investing in Yes
- 21:32Speaker 5: with us on twisted wayn cony love triangle between the
- 21:37Speaker 5: yes yes, But you're talking about Chuck gorgeous.
- 21:43Speaker 6: That's what he called himself, Chuck gorgeous because of the
- 21:46Speaker 6: way he, you know, being Vivie bates women. You know,
- 21:50Speaker 6: I don't know if if Charles killed uh, Chris Vallavans.
- 21:55Speaker 6: I don't know what happened Miss Pallavans. What I do
- 21:58Speaker 6: know is that they will not be able to prove
- 22:00Speaker 6: to you that Miss Dyke's committed this offense because she didn't.
- 22:07Speaker 1: The state called Lisa's longtime hairdresser, Kathy de Leon, to
- 22:11Speaker 1: establish motive Lisa's obsession with Chuck Beltran.
- 22:16Speaker 7: She told me that she had got home from work
- 22:20Speaker 7: Friday and that she caught check in Nana in bed together.
- 22:26Speaker 7: When she was telling me this, she she was like,
- 22:30Speaker 7: I could just kill her, she said. She goes, yeah,
- 22:33Speaker 7: she says, I cannot believe that. I caught them in
- 22:36Speaker 7: bed together and I told her, I said, Lisa, you
- 22:40Speaker 7: invited this, you know. I was like, you have let
- 22:44Speaker 7: this trio thing go on? Did you not think that
- 22:46Speaker 7: it was going to happen? I never saw Lisa like upset,
- 22:52Speaker 7: you know. She she was always like yeah, but this
- 22:56Speaker 7: particular day she was very, very upset.
- 23:00Speaker 1: Kathy testified that after meeting Chuck at a bar managed
- 23:03Speaker 1: by her son, Lisa began to drastically alter her appearance.
- 23:07Speaker 1: Lisa began getting tattoos, cropping her hair short, and dyeing
- 23:11Speaker 1: it bright colors. Over this period, she also lost approximately
- 23:16Speaker 1: sixty pounds in weight and underwent a lower facelift and
- 23:19Speaker 1: thighplasty to tighten the appearance of her chin and legs.
- 23:24Speaker 1: These changes were perceived to be done to please Chuck
- 23:27Speaker 1: to transform into what Lisa believed he wanted. In a
- 23:32Speaker 1: bizarre and unexpected turn, hairdresser Kathy also introduced evidence of
- 23:36Speaker 1: yet another extreme aspect of Lisa Dyke's personality.
- 23:42Speaker 7: I say an altar and it had this big statue
- 23:48Speaker 7: thing that to me resemble like a grim reaper. She goes,
- 23:53Speaker 7: what's wrong? And I was like, I looked a pointed
- 23:57Speaker 7: at I was like, are you into which? And she goes, well,
- 24:02Speaker 7: I've dabbled in it. I just said, well, okay, girl
- 24:05Speaker 7: teaches ownt just don't put a spell on me. I
- 24:09Speaker 7: was like, come on.
- 24:12Speaker 1: Pennsylvania. Friend in realtor Jamie Scarpa, testified to the level
- 24:16Speaker 1: of panic in urgency with which Nina and Lisa had
- 24:20Speaker 1: wished to sell the house in Pennsylvania. The two visited
- 24:23Speaker 1: the property with JBI to prepare the house for listing
- 24:26Speaker 1: and sign some papers. During the walkthrough, they did something unexpected.
- 24:33Speaker 8: So normally her house was bright and airy and open.
- 24:37Speaker 8: All the windows and doors were covered with like black sheets.
- 24:39Speaker 8: It was pitch black in the house when I bucked in,
- 24:44Speaker 8: and there was a closet that's next to the floyer
- 24:48Speaker 8: in the side. That large closet was like a life
- 24:51Speaker 8: size I guess you call it a statue of a skeleton.
- 24:55Speaker 8: And it was wearing like a robe and it was
- 24:57Speaker 8: holding something like this. There's like a mat on the floor.
- 24:59Speaker 9: In front of it.
- 25:00Speaker 1: And what did they do in front of that?
- 25:06Speaker 10: Nealed?
- 25:09Speaker 11: What did you think about that?
- 25:10Speaker 8: I was ready to go, yeah, scary you.
- 25:15Speaker 12: In December, did you receive I guess a photograph from
- 25:19Speaker 12: a buyer's agent about some concerning things.
- 25:21Speaker 6: In the home.
- 25:22Speaker 10: Yes, we did.
- 25:23Speaker 8: A buyer's agent had said that a buyer was concerned
- 25:26Speaker 8: about something that they seen, and they sent me a photo.
- 25:28Speaker 8: It was like a smaller what I would call grim
- 25:31Speaker 8: Reaper statue and it was on like a small side
- 25:34Speaker 8: table with candles and like little cups of alcohol or
- 25:38Speaker 8: money in the cups.
- 25:39Speaker 1: And what did that statue in your research represent?
- 25:43Speaker 8: The Santa Marta statue was angel of death that they had.
- 25:52Speaker 1: Charles Beltrand was the key witness for the prosecution. Chuck
- 25:56Speaker 1: had offered multiple versions of his story to witnesses and
- 25:59Speaker 1: then to law enforcement before settling on the one he
- 26:02Speaker 1: would testify to. First, he told a friend that Marisella
- 26:06Speaker 1: had gotten into his car, but they had not driven
- 26:09Speaker 1: to the house. Then he claimed to police that she
- 26:12Speaker 1: had gone to his home but had awoken and left
- 26:15Speaker 1: the house unharmed. In the next version, Lisa had stabbed
- 26:19Speaker 1: Marisella and Nina had entered the room and took part
- 26:23Speaker 1: in the attack. The version that he eventually told to
- 26:26Speaker 1: the jury pointed the fingers solely at Lisa Dyke's.
- 26:31Speaker 13: Sella.
- 26:31Speaker 1: What happens since.
- 26:33Speaker 14: I wake up to her screaming saying, help me, help me.
- 26:40Speaker 14: It's just from all the movement going on in the bed.
- 26:42Speaker 14: That's when I wake up and I see Lisa on
- 26:43Speaker 14: top of her. She's like with the knife coming down
- 26:47Speaker 14: like this. And once I noticed the knife, so I'll
- 26:52Speaker 14: pushed lisauf over. Just my reaction was just push her,
- 26:56Speaker 14: and I pushed her hard and her marce.
- 27:01Speaker 9: Like tumble over. Uh, Lisa still got a hold of her.
- 27:07Speaker 14: As I get up, I'm still trying to process what
- 27:10Speaker 14: the hell is going on.
- 27:12Speaker 9: I see Lisa still grabbing her.
- 27:13Speaker 14: I jump over the bed, and as I come with
- 27:16Speaker 14: over the bed, I'm trying to prior Lisa off of her,
- 27:20Speaker 14: pull her apart, and so as I'm pulling them off,
- 27:24Speaker 14: it's like Lisa just kind of like let go, and
- 27:26Speaker 14: she just tumbles over. I look towards Lisa and I
- 27:29Speaker 14: grabbed Lisa and I finished her wall and I'm like,
- 27:33Speaker 14: what the fist?
- 27:35Speaker 9: What the help are you doing? You know, and she's like,
- 27:41Speaker 9: I told you how to bring more girls over here. Well,
- 27:46Speaker 9: She's like, I'm just getting I'm get tired, and you can.
- 27:50Speaker 15: Quote if you need to say.
- 27:52Speaker 4: And I want you to quote, tellist exactly what you say.
- 27:58Speaker 14: She was just she just said that I told you
- 28:01Speaker 14: not to bring any more girls over here while you're
- 28:02Speaker 14: direspecting us. I do everything for you. And she was
- 28:08Speaker 14: just like, you need to get your little your little bitch,
- 28:12Speaker 14: and I need to leave the lead now.
- 28:15Speaker 9: I need to leave.
- 28:18Speaker 14: And Lisa's just still standing there, like just looking at her,
- 28:22Speaker 14: just staring at her, just laying there.
- 28:26Speaker 9: Yes, And I could I could hear her.
- 28:28Speaker 14: Saying something like I can't recall what she's saying, but
- 28:31Speaker 14: it sounds like she's saying like.
- 28:33Speaker 9: Like what did I do? What did I do? What
- 28:34Speaker 9: did I do? What do you tell I'm like, Lisa,
- 28:38Speaker 9: we have to call down on one.
- 28:39Speaker 14: She's like no, like like hold on, like think about
- 28:43Speaker 14: what you're doing before you do it. And to me
- 28:48Speaker 14: like registering that, I was just thinking about the whole scene,
- 28:50Speaker 14: like I'm with her, I'm the last one with her.
- 28:54Speaker 9: She's in my room.
- 28:56Speaker 14: You know it looks like I did something. So yeah,
- 29:00Speaker 14: I was just like, you need to figure the shit out.
- 29:02Speaker 14: You told me to leave, like you did this shit
- 29:05Speaker 14: like you need to I'm gone, you know what I'm saying.
- 29:07Speaker 14: I can't deal with this like it was just so
- 29:09Speaker 14: much to deal.
- 29:10Speaker 10: With, and.
- 29:13Speaker 9: I put my toes on and grandma stuff and lift.
- 29:17Speaker 1: Cell phone location data supported Chuck's testimony as to his movements.
- 29:22Speaker 1: He left the house and traveled to an ex girlfriend's
- 29:24Speaker 1: apartment building. Early the next morning, he got an oil change,
- 29:28Speaker 1: which was also documented. Chuck then stayed away from the
- 29:32Speaker 1: house until Lisa called him and told him that he
- 29:34Speaker 1: could return. When he did days later, the room had
- 29:38Speaker 1: been thoroughly cleaned. Roughly ten days following the murder, after
- 29:42Speaker 1: the FBI came to the house, Lisa and Nina made
- 29:45Speaker 1: plans to pack up and leave. Chuck testified that he
- 29:48Speaker 1: went along with them because he didn't think that anyone
- 29:51Speaker 1: would believe that he was innocent of the murder.
- 29:55Speaker 14: I've always had in the back of my mind, but
- 30:00Speaker 14: I always thought that it could be pointed to me.
- 30:04Speaker 14: Their attorneys, they have good jobs, they don't have no record.
- 30:08Speaker 14: Me I looked like the bad guy.
- 30:11Speaker 9: I was scared.
- 30:13Speaker 1: Pointing to the other two blood profiles found at the scene,
- 30:16Speaker 1: defense Council questioned who else had been in the house
- 30:19Speaker 1: when Marisela died. Although police had assumed the second and
- 30:23Speaker 1: third profiles belonged to Chuck, Lisa or Nina. Testing showed
- 30:28Speaker 1: none of them were a match.
- 30:33Speaker 16: But the matter is not only as you have girls guys, Yes, sir,
- 30:41Speaker 16: more than this, No, sir, we just have to take
- 30:45Speaker 16: the work.
- 30:46Speaker 9: That's what that's what happened. No, we have to take
- 30:49Speaker 9: your work for it.
- 30:49Speaker 4: Right.
- 30:51Speaker 17: This brother is actually there to your.
- 30:55Speaker 9: R This is the truth. A question to be dismissed, Yes, sir.
- 31:11Speaker 1: Lisa Dyke's Beltran took the stand in her own defense.
- 31:14Speaker 1: She told the jury that Charles Beltrand was a violent
- 31:17Speaker 1: man and that she feared him.
- 31:21Speaker 10: Charles was a lot more aggressive than what you have
- 31:25Speaker 10: been told. He was really bad as far as aggression grows.
- 31:33Speaker 10: One night in particular, he was trying to get help
- 31:35Speaker 10: of me for money. Whenever I woke up in the morning,
- 31:39Speaker 10: I had ninety nine in this phone calls from this man.
- 31:42Speaker 7: Ninety nine.
- 31:45Speaker 1: They did not have a romantic relationship, despite what multiple
- 31:48Speaker 1: witnesses had stated under oath I love No.
- 31:54Speaker 11: Chuck was in continuing to always be a business interest
- 31:58Speaker 11: that went sideways.
- 32:00Speaker 9: Okay, so you're all these women's our use sweeping walks.
- 32:05Speaker 18: Is that the fifty fifties marry too.
- 32:07Speaker 10: Well, it's not the fifty I got most of the
- 32:10Speaker 10: time in the later days, but he could definitely.
- 32:13Speaker 11: Appear to be he was a wolf in Jeep's clothing.
- 32:20Speaker 1: Lisa also denied worshiping the Santa Morte or partaking in witchcraft.
- 32:24Speaker 1: The altar that was found in Mesquite belonged to Chuck,
- 32:28Speaker 1: she said. And the statue in the closet in the
- 32:30Speaker 1: Pennsylvania house, well, that was a Halloween decoration.
- 32:35Speaker 13: There was like a Halloween skeleton that's full size, like
- 32:39Speaker 13: king size, and he had put because they were Mormon,
- 32:44Speaker 13: a Mormon religious like piece of clothing on it. It's
- 32:48Speaker 13: like a long white rope, but it was bundled up
- 32:52Speaker 13: in like on the floorida closet.
- 32:54Speaker 11: It's not anything else. So it was just a bunch
- 32:56Speaker 11: of stuff and storage that.
- 32:58Speaker 10: We had in there that we kept walking, including paperwork
- 33:02Speaker 10: that we didn't want shown.
- 33:03Speaker 1: To people come in to look at the house.
- 33:05Speaker 18: Well, the neighbor from Princelagan said, young Kneeling, any feelings
- 33:11Speaker 18: do it?
- 33:11Speaker 11: Friends? Remember that I remember her saying that, and I
- 33:15Speaker 11: also have no concept why she would have said it. Well,
- 33:19Speaker 11: you never did that.
- 33:22Speaker 1: Lisa testified that on the weekend of Marcella's murder. She
- 33:26Speaker 1: was still in recovery from her plastic surgery. The thigh
- 33:30Speaker 1: plast she said, had failed and left her in a
- 33:33Speaker 1: great deal of pain. She struggled to walk into drive
- 33:37Speaker 1: at that time.
- 33:39Speaker 11: On a scale one to ten, I used to think
- 33:42Speaker 11: having a baby would be it was ten. Right with
- 33:46Speaker 11: this particular injury, where this was and pain factor involved,
- 33:51Speaker 11: this is a ten and having a baby is five.
- 33:55Speaker 11: So that gives you an idea of what that was
- 33:57Speaker 11: and dealing with it.
- 33:59Speaker 1: On October third, two days before the murder, Lisa did
- 34:03Speaker 1: manage a four hour trip to Arkansas to watch Chuck
- 34:06Speaker 1: perform at a club. Lisa paid for the show. She
- 34:10Speaker 1: had also funded transit in multiple hotel rooms and drinks
- 34:13Speaker 1: for Chuck and his friends. When the group returned to Texas,
- 34:17Speaker 1: the rapper decided to celebrate out with friends instead of
- 34:21Speaker 1: staying at home. That night, he met Marcella Batello and
- 34:26Speaker 1: brought her home with him.
- 34:29Speaker 18: There in your room a sleep, yes with the doc
- 34:33Speaker 18: me on that day, did you ever come come in
- 34:37Speaker 18: contact with Marcella?
- 34:40Speaker 4: Now?
- 34:40Speaker 9: When Chuck arrived there with her?
- 34:43Speaker 4: According to the following.
- 34:44Speaker 17: Reference, in the early morning, als, did you ever know
- 34:48Speaker 17: you even think anything that you will allow him riving
- 34:52Speaker 17: at your house in the early morning apples. No, you
- 34:55Speaker 17: heard him say that. At some point you came into
- 34:59Speaker 17: that and you stabbed Morsel. Did you go into stab Morsel?
- 35:05Speaker 4: No?
- 35:07Speaker 9: Did you struggle with.
- 35:08Speaker 11: Morcell No, absolutely not. Did you argue with.
- 35:11Speaker 18: Chulke about Marcel No? Had you ever met Marcel No.
- 35:20Speaker 1: Finally, Lisa testified that the cellular data tracked her movement
- 35:24Speaker 1: after the murder to the area near Hutchins where Marcella's
- 35:27Speaker 1: remains were eventually found, because she and Nina had it
- 35:31Speaker 1: driven out to a FedEx depot in Hutchins that morning.
- 35:36Speaker 1: Nina was working on a case in New York and
- 35:38Speaker 1: required documents sent for her urgent review, except that when
- 35:43Speaker 1: they arrived there were no documents to collect.
- 35:48Speaker 18: You were in that area.
- 35:49Speaker 6: Would that explain why your phones.
- 35:50Speaker 11: Were painting in that area? I assume so.
- 35:54Speaker 17: Other than going to that when a ring and moving
- 35:57Speaker 17: back up, you go to the distribution center.
- 36:00Speaker 6: Did you ever coach to Thursday time to pull something
- 36:03Speaker 6: double Bodia.
- 36:04Speaker 7: Yes, sir.
- 36:10Speaker 1: The prosecution closed its case by emphasizing the central lie
- 36:13Speaker 1: of Lisa's testimony, which is also what they argued, was
- 36:17Speaker 1: her motive for the murder her relationship with Charles Beltran.
- 36:24Speaker 15: And in this case she swore on direct and swore
- 36:27Speaker 15: on cross over and over and over again that she
- 36:29Speaker 15: had no romantic or sexual relationship with Charles Beltran. Yet
- 36:33Speaker 15: in her phone that she is on talking to someone
- 36:39Speaker 15: when she gets arrested.
- 36:41Speaker 10: In March of twenty twenty one, March twenty six, his
- 36:46Speaker 10: name is lover.
- 36:51Speaker 15: She shows that name for him.
- 36:53Speaker 9: Yet she sat up.
- 36:54Speaker 1: There and lied to you, No, he was just a
- 36:59Speaker 1: business investment.
- 37:01Speaker 12: And what you see is the evolution of Lisa Knights
- 37:05Speaker 12: right there, from when prior to when she met Charles Beltrand,
- 37:10Speaker 12: all the way through to the bottom, full.
- 37:14Speaker 19: Tattoos, new haircut, platinum hair make up, the last hair
- 37:24Speaker 19: appointment she had with Kat.
- 37:26Speaker 4: She changes her appearance again bright pink. She still has
- 37:29Speaker 4: the scars from her facelift that Nina paid for.
- 37:35Speaker 12: This is the willing evolution of a woman that was
- 37:38Speaker 12: obsessed with a young, much younger man that was.
- 37:42Speaker 15: In the rap scene and then the bar scene.
- 37:44Speaker 12: And this is what she thought he wanted her to
- 37:47Speaker 12: look like, so that's what she did.
- 37:53Speaker 1: The Jerry returned with their verdict and at near record
- 37:55Speaker 1: breaking time, having only spent ninety minutes deliberating.
- 38:01Speaker 20: Jury unanimously find the defendant, Lisa Joe Dykes, guilty of
- 38:05Speaker 20: murder as charged to the indictment.
- 38:08Speaker 1: For the second case, we the.
- 38:10Speaker 20: Jury unanimously find the defendant, Lisa Joe Dikes, guilty of
- 38:14Speaker 20: champering with physical evidence.
- 38:17Speaker 1: Guilty on both accounts murder and tampering with evidence for
- 38:21Speaker 1: having attempted to hide Maricella in the woods near to Hutchins.
- 38:29Speaker 1: The same jury returned for the sentencing phase of the trial.
- 38:32Speaker 1: They heard from Marisella's younger brother, who told the court
- 38:35Speaker 1: about the fun, loving, supportive and kind sister that he
- 38:38Speaker 1: misses every day. She made a poor decision on the
- 38:42Speaker 1: night of her death when she got into the car
- 38:44Speaker 1: with Charles Beltran, but there was no way to have
- 38:47Speaker 1: predicted the actions of Lisa Diykes. Lisa was handed a
- 38:57Speaker 1: life sentence for the murder and twenty years for evidence
- 39:00Speaker 1: and is tampering. Nina Burano and Charles Beltran pleaded guilty
- 39:04Speaker 1: to the tampering charge. The charges of murder pending against
- 39:07Speaker 1: both were dismissed. That was the tragic case of Marisella
- 39:15Speaker 1: Botello Valadez. Thank you to everyone that watches and supports
- 39:19Speaker 1: what we do on the channel. I'm Kevin. This is
- 39:22Speaker 1: just THOT Lounge and I'll see in the next one.
- 39:28Speaker 20: Found out.
- 39:31Speaker 1: When the scene, Please tell me who the screen saves.
- 39:33Speaker 9: I can hear the Cris repeat.
- 39:34Speaker 14: Gotta take my time because these crimes get deep, but
- 39:36Speaker 14: these stories can't high.
- 39:37Speaker 9: Let me find my seat, Kevin, go ahead and settle in.
- 39:40Speaker 9: Gotta be selective, the research effective.
- 39:45Speaker 6: Got it.
