• 0:29
Good morning from the In Coop, sorry for the nasally voice
• 0:33
today but we've got a little cold going on over here through
• 0:35
our family. So question of the day, how
• 0:41
often do you catch yourself making excuses?
• 0:45
You know my son and I were having a discussion about this
• 0:47
earlier in the day we homeschool our son and I was asking him
• 0:52
about his time that he logged for his independent study and
• 0:58
you know he always has an interesting Concept of Whole
• 1:01
Hog. Something took him and we
• 1:03
recently switched our programs that we were using and this one
• 1:07
has very very accurate time to let us see exactly how long he's
• 1:13
in a module, how long he's actually studying reading what
• 1:17
is he doing? And he started listening to him.
• 1:20
Give me his interpretation of his day.
• 1:24
And then I realized how many excuses that that that boy can
• 1:27
come up within a very short period of time, and I was
• 1:30
laughing about Out. And I said, my feel like you're
• 1:32
making excuses right now and he's like, no.
• 1:34
I'm telling you what happened? And I said, I understand that
• 1:37
that's your interpretation of what happened.
• 1:39
But it's all an excuse and we got into this big debate about
• 1:42
it. Now, the reason I'm bringing
• 1:43
this up to you because I explained to him the same thing,
• 1:47
you know, we, as human beings have a way of skewing things to
• 1:53
soften it for ourselves. We don't like to confront
• 1:59
ourselves head-on. Sometimes you have to confront
• 2:02
things head on so that you can change them back to most of the
• 2:05
time you have to confront things head on to change them.
• 2:09
So for me I really work hard with my clients or making sure
• 2:15
that there are. There's a difference between
• 2:17
excuses and facts. There are different things that
• 2:20
come up. And you know what, most of the
• 2:24
time it boils down to is we just don't want to do something or we
• 2:29
might not. Prioritize it enough and if you
• 2:32
start to think of things in your head like we start, we structure
• 2:37
things in like, this is more important than that and no
• 2:40
matter what we rate, everything, whether we realize it or not, we
• 2:43
spend an inordinate amount of time rating things in our system
• 2:47
that we have for ourselves. So you know, some of those, I
• 2:51
didn't get a chance to take care of that for you today.
• 2:55
It wasn't a priority and they're not just saying to you hey I you
• 2:59
know I didn't make it a priority. there was a very funny
• 3:01
commercial years ago on television where these two
• 3:05
people were on a date and it was about what if people like really
• 3:09
told the truth and they sat there and the girl was looking
• 3:12
at the guy and she's like, I just can't stand the way you
• 3:15
look and he's like, yeah, I'm never calling you back and it
• 3:17
was very funny and very humorous and you know, it just reminded
• 3:22
me of like wouldn't it be great if people were just really
• 3:26
honest about certain things and just came out and said it, Old
• 3:31
Dudley, Moore movie, Funny Farm, same thing where it was they
• 3:35
would just tell the truth in this movie.
• 3:37
And it was really, really funny about how the reaction to other
• 3:42
people would bounce back to them with it.
• 3:46
And when you think about how many excuses you give yourself
• 3:50
instead of just being honest about it.
• 3:52
Like look it didn't. It wasn't a priority for me or I
• 3:55
just didn't care about it. We do this to ourselves all the
• 3:58
time. So once my had this conversation
• 4:00
with my So I started thinking about, all right, how many
• 4:02
excuses do I make up in a day? Like what are the excuses that I
• 4:05
come up with? And that I make for myself in a
• 4:08
day? And I started thinking about the
• 4:10
fact that I haven't painted in a very, very, very long time.
• 4:14
Like I have not, I haven't done any painting in a long time and
• 4:20
too long of a time. And I said to myself, you know,
• 4:24
  what's the reason that I haven't painted said, well, I don't have
• 4:27
a place where I can set it up. Well, that's not exactly.
• 4:30
Be true. I do have a place where I can
• 4:31
set it up. I would just have to take down
• 4:34
if I set it up and and the worst part is like I have the ability
• 4:39
to do that, but I allowed myself to buy the excuse of.
• 4:43
Well, you know what? I don't have a place because I
• 4:45
can't leave it set up and that's an excuse, but I can paint.
• 4:50
I just don't prioritize it or I'll say, well, I don't have the
• 4:54
paper I like to paint on right now, and I can't find the paper
• 4:57
again because my supplier went, well, that's an Was I can still
• 5:01
get other paper. I could try a good experiment,
• 5:04
if it was a high enough priority, if I made it urgent
• 5:09
and I wanted to do it and it got me to really think about how we
• 5:13
have become so desensitized to making excuses.
• 5:16
And I want you guys to really look at this and where this
• 5:20
shows up in your day, where the shows up in your life because
• 5:24
I'm going to tell you it's everywhere and as much as I work
• 5:28
on it, I still find myself getting hooked on Don it, I hear
• 5:32
it with clients. I hear with my son, I hear it
• 5:35
across the board and I hear it within myself to.
• 5:38
So I thought you know, this is a worthy thing for us to take a
• 5:41
look at because if we're making excuses and we're not
• 5:43
prioritizing things and we're not telling people you know I'm
• 5:46
just not going to get to it or I've got a lot on my plate it's
• 5:49
not going to be till here till I can do it.
• 5:51
Then we're just causing ourselves to to set up a
• 5:55
situation where we're going to fail and the thing I would like
• 5:59
to help you avoid is Setting up things to fail.
• 6:02
There's nothing worse than having a successful strategy for
• 6:04
failure. So, look at this, really start
• 6:08
to pay attention. How many times am I making
• 6:10
excuses and do I really need to even make an excuse?
• 6:12
Why can't I just say, you know what?
• 6:14
  I didn't prioritize it I apologize or I just didn't want
• 6:18
to do it and I apologize and I think when you do that, you're
• 6:22
going to start to feel a lot better and you're going to start
• 6:24
to feel a lot honest. And you're going to start to see
• 6:26
things really shift in your life.
• 6:28
So take it out. See if what comes about for, you
• 6:32
does the same thing for me and you know, how it affect you.
• 6:36
So, I hope you guys have a blessed day and I will see you
• 6:40
all tomorrow. Hopefully, I won't be quite as
• 6:42
nasally tomorrow morning. Hope you have a blessed day.
• 6:45
Bye. See if what comes about for, you
• 6:32
does the same thing for me and you know, how it affect you.
• 6:36
So, I hope you guys have a blessed day and I will see you
• 6:40
all tomorrow. Hopefully, I won't be quite as
• 6:42
nasally tomorrow morning. Hope you have a blessed day.
• 6:45
  Bye.
