- 1:50Speaker 1: So happy you said bonus.
- 1:52Speaker 4: Why is that?
- 1:54Speaker 3: Because it also gives me a boner. There we go.
- 1:57Speaker 3: I'll say it. How are you guys doing today? Good
- 1:59Speaker 3: Friday for everybody?
- 2:00Speaker 1: I mean, we've got two winners on the books so far.
- 2:02Speaker 3: Who, what?
- 2:03Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 2:04Speaker 3: Read your email, bro. I did not see the email.
- 2:07Speaker 3: I saw the email that somebody is sending out just
- 2:09Speaker 3: saying that we have winners. I didn't see the one
- 2:10Speaker 3: that was said we have. But I was downstairs smoking
- 2:12Speaker 3: a cigar.
- 2:13Speaker 6: Well, News Junkie had 11 and 12 o'clock back-to-back winners.
- 2:16Speaker 3: Damn, dude. Whatever, really? So six for Orlando, and then
- 2:20Speaker 3: News Junkie came through with two today. Awesome, dude. Good job, man.
- 2:23Speaker 3: I'm going to beat him. That must have been exciting, right?
- 2:25Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah.
- 2:26Speaker 3: Back-to-backs is always exciting. Dude, I would have been freaking out.
- 2:28Speaker 3: I would have taken off my pants. Yeah. Back-to-the-boner. Yeah.
- 2:34Speaker 3: So a number of things happened. I want to save
- 2:37Speaker 3: this for later today, but... Man, you ever feel like
- 2:41Speaker 3: sometimes you're just kind of trying to roll through life
- 2:44Speaker 3: as anonymously as possible, trying to just kind of move
- 2:48Speaker 3: through life, wrinkling no feathers, causing no problems, just kind
- 2:53Speaker 3: of going to work and coming home. Do you guys
- 2:56Speaker 3: feel that? Like you just sometimes that's just how you feel. Well,
- 3:00Speaker 3: what do you mean by like I'm striving to be anonymous? No,
- 3:04Speaker 3: not in this. Like I just try to go through
- 3:06Speaker 3: my thing every day. Today I got yelled at in traffic. Really?
- 3:10Speaker 3: For the most innocuous thing, I don't know what led
- 3:16Speaker 3: this person to roll their window down and make a
- 3:19Speaker 3: comment on something I did at a stoplight. I can't
- 3:23Speaker 3: wait to find out what you did and what they said.
- 3:25Speaker 3: Talk to me. I got to tell you, I think
- 3:27Speaker 3: this is honestly one time that all three of you
- 3:30Speaker 3: will be on my side.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Ha!
- 3:33Speaker 3: I really do believe that. I'm telling you straight up.
- 3:35Speaker 3: I really do believe that. I love this. It's difficult
- 3:39Speaker 3: for me to find something that happened to my life
- 3:41Speaker 3: where I think all three of you are like, you
- 3:42Speaker 3: know what? The guys are going to get my back
- 3:43Speaker 3: on this one. This one, I have a pretty good
- 3:46Speaker 3: idea that you guys are going to get my back.
- 3:48Speaker 3: And I think you will exactly think what I think.
- 3:50Speaker 3: Like you can't imagine why somebody would get so upset
- 3:53Speaker 3: about this. Color me intrigued.
- 3:56Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah.
- 3:56Speaker 3: So we'll do that a little bit later. Oh! Oh,
- 4:00Speaker 3: you want it now? Yeah, of course I want it now.
- 4:03Speaker 3: Why do you want it now? You should know, though,
- 4:05Speaker 3: that I also... Do you want your Christmas gift now
- 4:07Speaker 3: or later? I had a parked car interaction today, and
- 4:11Speaker 3: it was a Pixar short. It was so wonderful. We
- 4:15Speaker 3: both pulled out at the same time, and then we
- 4:17Speaker 3: played rock, paper, scissors. Okay, so that didn't happen to me.
- 4:22Speaker 3: There was no cute rock, paper, scissors, hope this makes
- 4:24Speaker 3: it on Twitter a moment. It wasn't like that for me, dawg.
- 4:27Speaker 3: And it was a relatively short interaction, but I pulled
- 4:30Speaker 3: off like genuinely throttled. Like I didn't know what to think.
- 4:34Speaker 3: You want to know what it was? Of course. This
- 4:36Speaker 3: is what happened. So I had an old Starbucks coffee
- 4:42Speaker 3: in my truck.
- 4:43Speaker 8: Right?
- 4:44Speaker 3: When I get my drink, I have a certain place
- 4:48Speaker 3: I put my drink. It's in these two drink holders.
- 4:50Speaker 3: I got a little four drinker. I got two drink holders.
- 4:53Speaker 3: But the problem is, is if you put your drink
- 4:55Speaker 3: in one drink, when you go to reach the other drink,
- 4:57Speaker 3: that drink hits your hand. You understand?
- 4:59Speaker 1: So you put it in the bed of your pickup truck.
- 5:02Speaker 3: I did not.
- 5:03Speaker 4: Oh.
- 5:03Speaker 3: The coffee was half. Half of the coffee was left over.
- 5:07Speaker 3: I rolled my window down and I poured the coffee
- 5:09Speaker 3: out onto the road. Okay. And I put my cup in,
- 5:13Speaker 3: I put it in my truck, and the dude next
- 5:16Speaker 3: door to me rolls his window down and said, what
- 5:18Speaker 3: are you doing? And I thought he recognized me and
- 5:22Speaker 3: was ragging on me. That's what I thought was happening.
- 5:25Speaker 3: I actually almost said, hey, thanks for listening. Yeah. You're right.
- 5:34Speaker 3: But I was like, I can look at the guy's face.
- 5:37Speaker 3: Like this guy does not know who I am. Doesn't care.
- 5:39Speaker 3: And he's really pissed off that I simply poured coffee
- 5:43Speaker 3: onto the road. He goes, you're not supposed to do that, dude.
- 5:45Speaker 3: You're supposed to take that and pour it out on
- 5:47Speaker 3: the grass or some, and then throw your couple. I said,
- 5:49Speaker 3: but I said, what? He goes, yeah, you're not supposed
- 5:52Speaker 3: to do that. Light turns green. I'm like, I've never
- 5:54Speaker 3: heard of that in my life. Rolls his window up,
- 5:55Speaker 3: just stares at me as I pull off. Nothing wrong
- 6:00Speaker 3: with me pouring coffee out at an intersection onto the road, right?
- 6:03Speaker 3: I've got nothing for you. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Did it
- 6:06Speaker 3: splash on his car? It did not splash. I don't
- 6:12Speaker 3: know that it didn't splash on his car. Did it
- 6:14Speaker 3: catch his pant leg on the motorcycle? But it was
- 6:16Speaker 3: far enough away, and I put it right. Look, if
- 6:18Speaker 3: it was going to be on anybody's car, it was
- 6:19Speaker 3: going to be on my car. But there's one problem
- 6:22Speaker 3: that you are overlooking. Which is? It's me? No, it's
- 6:26Speaker 3: not you. Does people hate me for the sake of
- 6:29Speaker 3: hating me? I understand that you do have a truck,
- 6:31Speaker 3: and you keep referring. It is not a large truck.
- 6:34Speaker 3: It's a little Ford Ranger. Everybody knows what they are.
- 6:36Speaker 3: But if you pour coffee outside of the window of
- 6:39Speaker 3: that truck, dude, it's going to splash. Yeah, it's going
- 6:41Speaker 3: to splash. It does splash. And the person was in
- 6:45Speaker 3: a yellowish kind of weird gold-colored car. I don't even
- 6:48Speaker 3: know what kind of car it was. It looked like
- 6:50Speaker 3: an Accord, like yours, what it looked like, a sedan thing.
- 6:53Speaker 3: But I was so blown away by this guy getting
- 6:55Speaker 3: into my face about it, I just rolled my window
- 6:58Speaker 3: and moved on. And he turned left at that next light,
- 7:00Speaker 3: so I didn't see him for the rest of the trip.
- 7:02Speaker 3: It was crazy, dude. I really hope he's listening right
- 7:04Speaker 3: now going, no way.
- 7:08Speaker 1: That's who it was.
- 7:09Speaker 3: Like, crazy as, like, if it was like, okay, so
- 7:11Speaker 3: I understand the thing. Like, I got, not yell that,
- 7:14Speaker 3: but somebody in my car one time, I threw a
- 7:16Speaker 3: banana peel out after eating a banana, and I threw
- 7:18Speaker 3: it out into the, off to the road, right? The
- 7:20Speaker 3: Doyle family.
- 7:21Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 7:22Speaker 3: And somebody says and somebody might say hey you're not
- 7:24Speaker 3: supposed to do that now they were joking they were
- 7:26Speaker 3: just kind of ragging my but they were serious and
- 7:28Speaker 3: they're like you're not supposed to do that because it
- 7:29Speaker 3: brings animals to the edge of the road yes and
- 7:32Speaker 3: creates more scenarios where it could cause a wreck you
- 7:34Speaker 3: know animals get killed you know people freak out because
- 7:36Speaker 3: of deers there or whatever i get that this was
- 7:39Speaker 3: not even close to that and it wasn't even that
- 7:40Speaker 3: much coffee it was like literally a half a cup
- 7:42Speaker 3: of a of a uh grande or whatever did he
- 7:45Speaker 3: know it was coffee No, I don't even know, Jack.
- 7:48Speaker 3: I have no idea.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Oh, he could have thought it was, ew.
- 7:50Speaker 6: Yeah, if it was like a spit cup or something.
- 7:56Speaker 3: Dude, I never thought of that. And I'm in a
- 7:57Speaker 3: truck with no tailgate. It adds up. Yeah. In Houston,
- 8:02Speaker 3: double adds up. And then me, this beard, double, triple
- 8:06Speaker 3: adds up. Looks like you're going fishing. Let me do this.
- 8:09Speaker 3: I apologize, dog. You're just missing the camo hat. Oh, man.
- 8:14Speaker 3: It was crazy. And I just kind of pulled off laughing.
- 8:17Speaker 3: I'm like, I just want to go to work. That's
- 8:19Speaker 3: all I'm trying to do is go to work. I
- 8:21Speaker 3: had a weird night. My wife had to get up
- 8:23Speaker 3: in the middle of the night to take her mom
- 8:24Speaker 3: to the airport to fly out.
- 8:26Speaker 6: She wanted to catch that hurricane.
- 8:29Speaker 3: I've been up since 4.15. It was like one of
- 8:32Speaker 3: those weird days. I'm on the way to work. I
- 8:33Speaker 3: get yelled at by a rando because I'm pouring coffee
- 8:36Speaker 3: on the road, which I did not know was a
- 8:38Speaker 3: big deal. Well, it's a super slippery spectrum of what
- 8:42Speaker 3: people choose to confront, right? Isn't that the wildest thing, dude?
- 8:46Speaker 3: I'm telling you. Look. I understand, like, if I threw
- 8:50Speaker 3: the cup on the ground, I would have yelled at myself.
- 8:52Speaker 3: I'd have been like, yeah, I get that. I was littering.
- 8:55Speaker 3: I hate littering. Like, I hate it. But, man, just
- 8:57Speaker 3: pouring coffee onto the road, I mean, I just did not,
- 9:00Speaker 3: I mean, it's going to rain. I don't, I didn't
- 9:02Speaker 3: say there's a stain in the road. I still do
- 9:05Speaker 3: this right now. I do not understand why. There's only
- 9:07Speaker 3: two things you can legally throw out. Clean water and
- 9:12Speaker 3: chicken feathers. Oh, yeah. That's right.
- 9:14Speaker 1: We did learn that.
- 9:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:17Speaker 1: Ugh. You'd have had less questions if you just throw
- 9:20Speaker 1: out a bunch of chicken feathers.
- 9:21Speaker 3: Could you imagine if I just reached out there and
- 9:23Speaker 3: dumped a handful of chicken feathers? The look I would
- 9:27Speaker 3: have gotten at that point would have been puzzling.
- 9:29Speaker 2: Not really.
- 9:30Speaker 1: It still used us.
- 9:31Speaker 3: Somebody would be like, where's the chicken? All right. Okay,
- 9:35Speaker 3: so you're not going to lie. I have never Googled
- 9:37Speaker 3: why you shouldn't pour coffee on the road, but I
- 9:40Speaker 3: just did. That guy apparently did right before he got
- 9:42Speaker 3: in his car. And there is way more reasons than
- 9:47Speaker 3: I thought was going to pop up. Are you serious?
- 9:50Speaker 4: What?
- 9:51Speaker 3: First and foremost, you have an oxygen depletion. Decomposing organic
- 9:55Speaker 3: compounds and nutrients in coffee stimulate harmful algae growth and
- 9:59Speaker 3: strip viruses. vital oxygen from aquatic plants and animals.
- 10:03Speaker 6: Uh-huh.
- 10:04Speaker 3: The lower water pH that coffee has increases the acidity
- 10:09Speaker 3: of natural water sources.
- 10:11Speaker 1: So it becomes a problem with runoff.
- 10:14Speaker 3: Oh, come on. You're killing Florida. This guy did not
- 10:18Speaker 3: hit me.
- 10:18Speaker 1: Look at that.
- 10:19Speaker 3: He did not hit me as an environmentalist. This guy
- 10:22Speaker 3: did not hit me that way. It was weird. It
- 10:24Speaker 3: was like my age. It was bizarre, dude. It says
- 10:27Speaker 3: that it disrupts freshwater ecosystems. Look at what you did, Jimmy.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Look at what you did.
- 10:33Speaker 3: Unbelievable.
- 10:34Speaker 6: But if you don't think he was motivated by being
- 10:37Speaker 6: echo friendly of you tossing something out your window, what
- 10:40Speaker 6: do you think his motivation was?
- 10:42Speaker 3: I just think he was a kind of a Karen.
- 10:44Speaker 3: I think he was just one of these guys who
- 10:46Speaker 3: felt like he's he saw somebody do something that he
- 10:49Speaker 3: doesn't agree with.
- 10:50Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:50Speaker 3: And he felt like he should come at me about it.
- 10:52Speaker 3: But why do you think he doesn't agree with that?
- 10:54Speaker 3: If it's not for.
- 10:55Speaker 1: The for the earth, Jimmy, man, come on. It's for
- 10:58Speaker 1: the earth.
- 10:59Speaker 3: Coffee comes from the earth. Sugar in the coffee comes
- 11:03Speaker 3: from the earth. That milk that was in the coffee
- 11:05Speaker 3: comes from the earth. All of it comes from the earth.
- 11:08Speaker 3: Local governments can penalize individuals for illegal liquid waste disposal.
- 11:13Speaker 3: That would be the greatest traffic ticket of all time.
- 11:17Speaker 3: If you get cited for pouring coffee onto the road,
- 11:21Speaker 3: just go play the lottery. I mean, what are the
- 11:23Speaker 3: chances of that? Did you have milk in your coffee? Yes,
- 11:26Speaker 3: I get half and half in my raw sugar. So
- 11:28Speaker 3: that guy cried over spilled milk.
- 11:29Speaker 7: Oh!
- 11:34Speaker 4: 407-916-1041.
- 11:35Speaker 3: Text us at 77031. I felt like I just got
- 11:41Speaker 3: your tension out. I felt like that's the same noise
- 11:44Speaker 3: my mom makes when I massage her. Use the cream.
- 11:48Speaker 3: Went to the dentist yesterday and got some advice on
- 11:52Speaker 3: something that I actually thought was a scam back in
- 11:56Speaker 3: the day. They're like, you got to do this. And
- 11:59Speaker 3: I'm like, what? And they're like, yeah, you got to
- 12:01Speaker 3: use this. You got to do this. I'm like, nobody.
- 12:05Speaker 3: They even make that thing anymore. We're going to talk
- 12:07Speaker 3: about that a little bit later. Plus, we have a
- 12:08Speaker 3: bunch of other stuff as well. Deb, what do you
- 12:09Speaker 3: got for news?
- 12:10Speaker 1: Krista Pike continues to recover after surviving an execution attempt.
- 12:15Speaker 1: Hurricane Isaias barrels toward the Gulf Coast. And man, if
- 12:19Speaker 1: you thought dengue fever was bad. Sexually transmitted diarrhea cases.
- 12:26Speaker 3: What the? That's S-T-D-D. That's the acronym for that.
- 12:34Speaker 1: Are soaring.
- 12:35Speaker 3: S-T-D-D. Hurry it up. I have five. Are soaring in
- 12:41Speaker 3: the U.S. I brought four condoms. I'm going to put
- 12:48Speaker 3: two on my hands and one on my head.
- 12:52Speaker 1: We'll talk about that and more coming up next during
- 12:54Speaker 1: JCS News.
- 12:55Speaker 9: Sorry, Jack.
- 12:56Speaker 3: Back in a sec with Debs News and more of
- 12:58Speaker 3: the Jim Colbert Show. What's going on, Colbert and Company?
- 13:11Speaker 3: It's Concrete Mike.
- 13:12Speaker 7: What up, Mike? I call BS on that coffee.
- 13:16Speaker 3: Polluting the ecosystem and all that nonsense. If you're dumping
- 13:21Speaker 3: a hundred gallons of it, okay, maybe. Three ounces?
- 13:25Speaker 8: Just worry more about people's fertilizers for their lawns and
- 13:28Speaker 8: all that runoff that goes into the ground.
- 13:32Speaker 3: That's the bigger problem, people. Howdy folks, Kurt here. Hey,
- 13:36Speaker 3: on the coffee in the road thing, I'm with Jim
- 13:37Speaker 3: on this one.
- 13:38Speaker 10: Coffee in the road's fine.
- 13:39Speaker 3: What's not is.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Coffee in the parking lot of the gas station, directly
- 13:43Speaker 1: where everyone steps out of their car.
- 13:45Speaker 10: It's even a nice shoe full of milky, sugary coffee
- 13:48Speaker 10: to track back into your car or into the store.
- 13:51Speaker 3: That always drives me crazy. Have a good weekend, folks. Jen,
- 13:56Speaker 3: as someone who lives in Eustis, you 100% sound white trash. Thanks, buddy.
- 14:05Speaker 3: I appreciate that so much. You have no idea.
- 14:07Speaker 1: Howdy, neighbor.
- 14:08Speaker 3: I feel loved now. There you go. All right, 407-916-1041,
- 14:12Speaker 3: text us 77031. Three o'clock keyword is money. That's M-O-N-E-Y.
- 14:18Speaker 3: Slide over to realradio.fm and send that off for your
- 14:20Speaker 3: chance at $ 1, 000. The news junkie at Back to Packers.
- 14:25Speaker 3: They opened up the safe, buddy, so go get that cash.
- 14:27Speaker 3: Money is the word. And remember, you can enter on
- 14:30Speaker 3: your iHeartRadio app as well while you're there, making sure.
- 14:33Speaker 3: Number one preset.
- 14:34Speaker 1: Helps us out.
- 14:35Speaker 3: It does. I am Jim. Jack and Ross are right
- 14:37Speaker 3: in front of me, and Deb has your news. It's
- 14:40Speaker 3: time for JCS News.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Wow, does this guy.
- 14:44Speaker 2: Got to put his name on everything?
- 14:46Speaker 3: It's in my contract, dude.
- 14:47Speaker 2: Here's the news on the Jim Colbert Show.
- 14:50Speaker 1: And as always, JCS News is brought to you by
- 14:53Speaker 1: that mortgage guy, Don. Give him a listen tomorrow morning
- 14:56Speaker 1: when you're tootling around when he's host of the Home
- 14:58Speaker 1: Loans Radio Show. Krista Pike is beginning to walk again.
- 15:03Speaker 1: As she recovers from that botched execution attempt in Tennessee,
- 15:07Speaker 1: her legal team says Pike is taking limited steps with
- 15:10Speaker 1: assistance and her injured arms are healing, but she continues
- 15:14Speaker 1: to struggle with memory and concentration. Pike survived two doses
- 15:18Speaker 1: of the state's lethal injection drug last week and regained
- 15:21Speaker 1: consciousness after doctors feared she was brain dead. Instead, she
- 15:24Speaker 1: woke up and said, where am I and who are you?
- 15:28Speaker 1: Her attorneys also are seeking answers about the attempt and
- 15:31Speaker 1: have won a court order requiring evidence to be preserved.
- 15:35Speaker 1: They're asking Governor Bill Lee to commute Pike's death sentence,
- 15:38Speaker 1: arguing the state should not try to execute her again.
- 15:42Speaker 1: Pike was convicted of killing 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer from Orange Park, Florida.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Back in 1995, apparently when they brought her in, of course,
- 15:50Speaker 1: you know, we had talked before that the attempt they
- 15:53Speaker 1: had apparently her attorney counted seven needles in her arm.
- 15:57Speaker 3: One of them bent in a 90 degree angle.
- 15:59Speaker 1: And when they took her to the hospital, they said
- 16:01Speaker 1: that her arms were swollen, blistered because penobarbital is a caustic.
- 16:07Speaker 1: It will like kill tissue as soon as it touches it.
- 16:11Speaker 1: So her arms were just blown up and all nasty. Yeah, exactly.
- 16:15Speaker 1: So they say her arms are starting to heal. But again,
- 16:18Speaker 1: they expected her to be brain dead and everything else.
- 16:21Speaker 1: And what do you do in this case?
- 16:22Speaker 11: Right.
- 16:23Speaker 3: This is going to be one of those precedent setting cases.
- 16:25Speaker 3: It really is.
- 16:25Speaker 1: It really is, because the mother who had traveled from
- 16:28Speaker 1: Orange Park, Florida, they had had a GoFundMe so that
- 16:31Speaker 1: she and a couple other members of Colleen's family could
- 16:34Speaker 1: be there to witness the execution and say they feel
- 16:37Speaker 1: like they've been robbed of justice that they've been waiting
- 16:40Speaker 1: 31 years for.
- 16:40Speaker 11: Yep.
- 16:42Speaker 1: You can see her point.
- 16:43Speaker 3: Very interesting.
- 16:44Speaker 1: It is. Back closer to home, the state of Florida
- 16:47Speaker 1: will not be executing two death row inmates in one
- 16:50Speaker 1: day next week. Governor DeSantis has withdrawn the death warrant
- 16:54Speaker 1: for 74-year-old William Lee Thompson, canceling his execution scheduled for
- 16:59Speaker 1: 6 p.m. on October 13th. His was to be the
- 17:02Speaker 1: second of the day. Thompson suffers from heart disease, dementia,
- 17:06Speaker 1: and sepsis. He was convicted of the 1976 murder of
- 17:09Speaker 1: 23-year-old Sally Ivester in North Miami. The execution of James
- 17:15Speaker 1: Robertson is still scheduled for the 13th and will still
- 17:19Speaker 1: take place at noon. He is sentenced to death for
- 17:23Speaker 1: a 2008 murder. Follow up on a story we did
- 17:25Speaker 1: yesterday during JCS News, but apparently it will not go away.
- 17:29Speaker 1: And now it looks like it's festering. Going to get
- 17:32Speaker 1: a little ugly.
- 17:33Speaker 3: All right.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Whoever leaked damaging information about Hope, Florida could face criminal charges.
- 17:41Speaker 1: Governor Ron DeSantis said yesterday he wants to prosecute whoever
- 17:45Speaker 1: leaked the grand jury's report into the organization. The grand
- 17:49Speaker 1: jury report, if you remember, accused state officials of misappropriating
- 17:53Speaker 1: $ 10 million. But an appeals court ruled what officials did
- 17:57Speaker 1: with the money was lawful. Someone apparently leaked the report
- 18:00Speaker 1: to CBS News Miami in August, and that could be
- 18:03Speaker 1: considered a first-degree misdemeanor. The punishment could be a $ 5, 000 fine.
- 18:08Speaker 1: And up to a year in jail.
- 18:10Speaker 3: So just leaking the document itself is against the law.
- 18:13Speaker 3: It had nothing to do with the fact that it
- 18:15Speaker 3: like I was kind of weird that it says they
- 18:18Speaker 3: did nothing illegal.
- 18:19Speaker 12: I know.
- 18:20Speaker 3: Yeah. So they release a document that proved nothing according
- 18:22Speaker 3: to them. And they still want to they still want
- 18:24Speaker 3: to convict somebody.
- 18:25Speaker 1: It's been a very interesting thing because there's also other
- 18:28Speaker 1: reports that said, listen, that. The grand jury didn't even
- 18:31Speaker 1: do all the things normally a grand jury would do,
- 18:34Speaker 1: and yeah.
- 18:35Speaker 3: Whistleblowing? Kind of a perfect debate for me. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 18:39Speaker 3: Because I don't know how we should feel any time
- 18:43Speaker 3: a whistleblower comes out. Yeah, that's a good point. It's
- 18:46Speaker 3: really weird. Checkmate my soul.
- 18:50Speaker 1: All right. Meanwhile, Governor DeSantis has authorized mandatory evacuations for
- 18:54Speaker 1: vulnerable coastal zones. As major Hurricane Category 3, Isaias, approaches
- 19:00Speaker 1: the Florida Panhandle, packing destructive 120 mph winds, the storm
- 19:05Speaker 1: is tracking toward a landfall tonight. DeSantis, though, also warns
- 19:09Speaker 1: that while the storm may be heading to the Panhandle,
- 19:12Speaker 1: folks here in Orlando and Tampa are not necessarily in
- 19:16Speaker 1: the clear.
- 19:17Speaker 3: It's a pretty big, lopsided, ugly system. You could see
- 19:20Speaker 3: both flooding and tornadoes in the central part of Florida.
- 19:24Speaker 3: That is possible.
- 19:25Speaker 1: So DeSantis says 5,000 Florida National Guardsmen have been activated.
- 19:29Speaker 1: Business operations and campuses across nearly 20 panhandle counties are
- 19:34Speaker 1: shut down. So, of course, if you have a student
- 19:36Speaker 1: at FSU, Florida A & M, I believe even like
- 19:39Speaker 1: UF is... Taking some precautions as well.
- 19:42Speaker 9: Really?
- 19:42Speaker 1: You've got kids showing up on your doorstep this weekend.
- 19:45Speaker 1: You got a feel for our panhandle brethren, right?
- 19:47Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 19:47Speaker 1: We all woke up on Monday looking at the extension.
- 19:50Speaker 1: forecast going, man, it's going to rain over the weekend.
- 19:53Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 19:53Speaker 1: And now you're like, it's a cat three.
- 19:56Speaker 3: Over the weekend. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That sucks. Orlando City
- 20:00Speaker 3: this weekend, though, can't stop me. Let's get these three points.
- 20:04Speaker 1: Central Florida could be in for a stormy, steamy weekend,
- 20:08Speaker 1: at least. The National Weather Service is calling for afternoon thunderstorms.
- 20:11Speaker 1: Some of those could be heavy downpours and gusty winds
- 20:14Speaker 1: through Sunday. The NWS says Central Florida, we're actually caught
- 20:18Speaker 1: between Hurricane Isaias in the Gulf and high pressure east
- 20:22Speaker 1: of the Bahamas. And that's strengthening southerly winds and drawing
- 20:26Speaker 1: unusually moist air into the area. I was really looking
- 20:30Speaker 1: forward thinking, you know, we're almost to the 10th of October.
- 20:33Speaker 1: Maybe we're going to see some low 80s. Temperatures are
- 20:36Speaker 1: actually going to hover around 90 degrees with the heat
- 20:39Speaker 1: index values topping 100. The good news is, though, drier
- 20:43Speaker 1: weather is expected to move in on Monday, bringing more
- 20:46Speaker 1: sunshine and less rain. Still highs in the upper 80s.
- 20:51Speaker 1: That one day of fall will be here soon, you guys.
- 20:53Speaker 1: More manageable, at least.
- 20:55Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 20:55Speaker 1: Better to have a hurricane in October than August.
- 20:58Speaker 4: 100.
- 20:58Speaker 3: I already saw one pumpkin that needed a blue pill, man.
- 21:01Speaker 3: They got soft real fast. It was Florida sunlight. Exactly.
- 21:05Speaker 1: Local first responders are ready to help those affected by
- 21:08Speaker 1: Hurricane Isai. Search and rescue teams from Orange, Osceola, Seminole,
- 21:12Speaker 1: and Marion counties will be stationed in Tallahassee as the
- 21:16Speaker 1: storm approaches. Florida Power and Light is also surging 12,000
- 21:20Speaker 1: restoration crew members to 16 staging sites in the Panhandle
- 21:25Speaker 1: to respond as soon as it's safe.
- 21:27Speaker 13: I think one of the greatest challenges we're going to
- 21:29Speaker 13: have with this storm is the strong storm surge and
- 21:32Speaker 13: the potential for 6 to 10 inches of rain, which
- 21:34Speaker 13: may cause some flooding and may make some areas inaccessible
- 21:38Speaker 13: after the storm passes.
- 21:40Speaker 1: So CEO Scott Borges says they're dusting off their Hurricane
- 21:44Speaker 1: Sally playbook to know where to respond. His concern, again,
- 21:47Speaker 1: is the storm surge. They're saying up to seven feet
- 21:50Speaker 1: and up to 10 inches of rain could make some
- 21:52Speaker 1: areas inaccessible. Do you guys, I know throughout any of
- 21:56Speaker 1: our hurricanes, Jimmy, you probably would have been the closest
- 21:59Speaker 1: out in Geneva. Did you ever have that experience of
- 22:02Speaker 1: watching everyone else's power around you get restored.
- 22:05Speaker 3: And Oh, that happened over here next to Code Black
- 22:09Speaker 3: because we were on the wrong side of the road.
- 22:11Speaker 3: So we watched everybody's power come back two days before us.
- 22:14Speaker 3: That's why we had everybody that knew everybody around the
- 22:16Speaker 3: neighborhood had extension cords running across the road from their
- 22:19Speaker 3: house to ours. Isn't that? This is Altamont Springs, and
- 22:22Speaker 3: over there is the wild, wild west. Yeah, exactly right.
- 22:26Speaker 3: Take a left at the saloon. Exactly.
- 22:28Speaker 1: You know, you're not kidding, though, right? Because I remember
- 22:31Speaker 1: after Hurricane Charlie, I lived in Delaney Park, literally three
- 22:35Speaker 1: blocks away from ORMC. And that's a level one trauma center.
- 22:39Speaker 1: So if there's anywhere you want to be after a hurricane,
- 22:42Speaker 1: it's as close to either a school that they're going
- 22:44Speaker 1: to be using as a shelter or, of course, a hospital.
- 22:47Speaker 1: Because it was like, yeah, baby, on that right grid,
- 22:50Speaker 1: on the right grid.
- 22:51Speaker 3: That's a good idea. Last hurricane, I got TB.
- 22:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:55Speaker 3: There's more cowboy jokes. Yeah, yeah. I'm sorry. That's what
- 22:58Speaker 3: they died of a lot. Okay. Thank you, Red Dead. Yeah,
- 23:01Speaker 3: Hurricane Red Dead. Oh, you beat me to it.
- 23:04Speaker 1: Oh, there we go.
- 23:05Speaker 3: RIP, Arthur Morgan.
- 23:07Speaker 1: I think this is kind of cool. Florida residents who
- 23:10Speaker 1: need help reaching an evacuation shelter can get free Uber
- 23:13Speaker 1: rides as Hurricane Isaias approaches. Isn't this pretty sweet?
- 23:17Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:17Speaker 1: What I want to know is how many people in
- 23:18Speaker 1: Central Florida are going to enter this code and see
- 23:20Speaker 1: if they can get a free ride. But hey, the
- 23:22Speaker 1: program provides up to $ 40 each way for trips to
- 23:26Speaker 1: and from state-approved Shelters using the promo code Isaias26. If
- 23:31Speaker 1: you can spell it, you deserve it.
- 23:33Speaker 3: They did that on purpose. They're not going to do
- 23:36Speaker 3: this for any other hurricane. And today in the news,
- 23:39Speaker 3: two people. Both Spanish got a ride for free.
- 23:44Speaker 14: DeSantis just came out and said, like, I'm calling it Isaiah. Yeah,
- 23:48Speaker 14: I love how he said it's weird. No, you're just
- 23:50Speaker 14: a gringo.
- 23:51Speaker 3: The governor arrived on a scooter. Yeah. That's insane.
- 23:56Speaker 1: He should get a line scooter for that.
- 23:58Speaker 3: That is kind of weird. That is kind of a
- 23:59Speaker 3: national story this morning. The fact that DeSantis did a
- 24:02Speaker 3: press conference on how he could not pronounce and wasn't
- 24:05Speaker 3: even going to give it a shot.
- 24:06Speaker 1: Remember how we played? I didn't realize that made national news.
- 24:09Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, it was everywhere this morning.
- 24:10Speaker 1: We played that yesterday during JCS News because I was like,
- 24:13Speaker 1: what else is he going to say? This is interesting.
- 24:15Speaker 3: I've never seen a politician publicly be like, guys, I
- 24:17Speaker 3: give up. I'm not trying. Hey, but the voucher system.
- 24:21Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 24:23Speaker 3: And I get it. It's just the name, which is
- 24:24Speaker 3: why I feel very fun and invited to kind of
- 24:27Speaker 3: laugh at it because I agree with the saying. It's
- 24:29Speaker 3: not that big of a deal, but I just have
- 24:31Speaker 3: never seen a person of power be like, no. I'm
- 24:34Speaker 3: not even going to give it a shot.
- 24:35Speaker 1: I'm tapping out.
- 24:36Speaker 3: I'm going to call in Frank.
- 24:37Speaker 1: So riders can redeem the offer through the Uber app
- 24:40Speaker 1: with a limit of two discounted trips per account. State
- 24:43Speaker 1: officials say the program is designed to help people evacuate
- 24:46Speaker 1: quickly ahead of the storm. All right, closer to home,
- 24:49Speaker 1: life-saving blood donations are needed to keep up with demand
- 24:52Speaker 1: in the southeast as the hurricane disrupts donations in the
- 24:55Speaker 1: Florida panhandle. OneBlood supplies blood products to how many hospitals
- 25:00Speaker 1: across Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas?
- 25:03Speaker 3: It is so many. 500. Oh, exactly what I was
- 25:09Speaker 3: going to get.
- 25:09Speaker 15: Okay.
- 25:10Speaker 1: I'll go 750.
- 25:10Speaker 3: I'll go 350.
- 25:17Speaker 1: Points Ross, 250 hospitals across Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas.
- 25:22Speaker 1: Here's a voice we all know and love.
- 25:25Speaker 3: It is something that you can give. It is not money.
- 25:27Speaker 3: It's not clothing. We're asking you to give something of yourself.
- 25:30Speaker 3: And it's pretty profound.
- 25:31Speaker 4: When you're giving blood within two to three days, it
- 25:34Speaker 4: will be going to a patient in a hospital.
- 25:36Speaker 1: Yeah, that's OneBlood's Pat Michaels.
- 25:38Speaker 3: Someone save him because he's stuck in a well.
- 25:40Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 25:42Speaker 1: Pat Michaels stresses that all blood types are needed with
- 25:45Speaker 1: especially high demand for O negative, O positive, and platelets.
- 25:49Speaker 1: Donors must be over 110 pounds, at least 16 years
- 25:53Speaker 1: of age, and generally healthy. Jack, when's the next time
- 25:56Speaker 1: you get to donate blood?
- 25:58Speaker 3: About six more weeks. I did it just two weeks ago.
- 26:01Speaker 16: Oh, wow.
- 26:01Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah. Wow.
- 26:04Speaker 1: He's on top of.
- 26:05Speaker 7: It, man.
- 26:05Speaker 3: He's got like five gallons. He's got a pickle bucket full.
- 26:07Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 26:08Speaker 3: I think that's... three donations away from 10 gallon. Wow.
- 26:14Speaker 1: That's so cool. Pickle buckets.
- 26:18Speaker 3: What do you get? A sticker or it might be
- 26:21Speaker 3: a magnet. All right. Yeah. I mean, that's a good trade.
- 26:24Speaker 2: Is it?
- 26:27Speaker 3: He's the dude who saved the lives of a state.
- 26:29Speaker 3: I know. And he gets a sticker. You can tell
- 26:33Speaker 3: that I'm being serious because of my falsetto. Well, they
- 26:37Speaker 3: say it's three lives per donation.
- 26:38Speaker 1: That's right.
- 26:39Speaker 14: Right?
- 26:40Speaker 6: And each gallon is eight donations, so that would be 80.
- 26:46Speaker 6: 24 lives per gallon?
- 26:47Speaker 3: Yeah. Wow, that's better than we get at the pump now.
- 26:55Speaker 3: That's just one Ford. Yeah.
- 26:57Speaker 2: Okay.
- 26:57Speaker 3: Diesel blood is 12%.
- 27:02Speaker 1: Florida health officials say the state's dengue fever outbreak has
- 27:06Speaker 1: grown to 296 locally acquired cases this year with 44
- 27:12Speaker 1: new infections reported in the latest update. Hillsborough County remains
- 27:16Speaker 1: the hardest hit area with 259 cases, right? We have
- 27:20Speaker 1: 296 across the whole state and they've got 259. Pinellas
- 27:24Speaker 1: County has 20 reported cases. One dengue related death has
- 27:28Speaker 1: been reported in Hillsborough County this year. Hillsborough and Pinellas
- 27:32Speaker 1: counties have extended their local states of emergency due to
- 27:35Speaker 1: the outbreak. And with dengue cases continuing to rise in
- 27:38Speaker 1: Hillsborough County, Tampa city workers are now going door to
- 27:42Speaker 1: door to help educate residents about the outbreak.
- 27:44Speaker 3: Oh, wow.
- 27:45Speaker 1: Yeah. Letting them know, because again, a lot of these
- 27:47Speaker 1: locally acquired cases, there are, thinking are coming from people
- 27:51Speaker 1: who are infected, but they're asymptomatic. They don't know they're infected.
- 27:54Speaker 3: Do you think they take a picture, like a photograph
- 27:57Speaker 3: of the mosquito as if they were looking for a suspect,
- 27:59Speaker 3: as in saying, I'm going to hold it up? Because
- 28:01Speaker 3: they don't know who goes online or who reads the
- 28:03Speaker 3: news or anything like that. You don't have any idea
- 28:05Speaker 3: from household to household how well informed they are.
- 28:08Speaker 1: Well, I would imagine that's absolutely what they do. Plus,
- 28:11Speaker 1: you know, you've got to figure you've got seniors.
- 28:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 28:14Speaker 1: You've got all kinds of people there. There could be
- 28:16Speaker 1: language barriers and you still want to get them the information.
- 28:18Speaker 1: So I know they're passing out information about the species
- 28:21Speaker 1: of mosquito, what to look for, symptoms and stuff like that,
- 28:25Speaker 1: when to seek medical care. Over the past three months,
- 28:28Speaker 1: crews have collected 23 tons of old tires. as part
- 28:33Speaker 1: of the city's campaign to slow the spread of dengue.
- 28:36Speaker 3: Just a friendly reminder, this is such a Snapple fact,
- 28:39Speaker 3: that's the number one human killer, and I don't even
- 28:42Speaker 3: think it's remotely close. It's not close, and the tire
- 28:45Speaker 3: thing is a real interesting thing. I remember when I
- 28:47Speaker 3: heard the tire thing for the first time, I was like,
- 28:49Speaker 3: what the hell is that? Tires? Not realizing that that's
- 28:52Speaker 3: where the water gets caught and that becomes an incubation
- 28:55Speaker 3: pond because the tire gets hot. The hot water becomes
- 28:58Speaker 3: like an absolute water bed for these things. Right, exactly.
- 29:02Speaker 3: I got one in the backyard. Do you really? I
- 29:05Speaker 3: got one in the backyard.
- 29:07Speaker 4: Oh, no.
- 29:08Speaker 3: Yeah. It's about a million people a year worldwide mosquitoes get.
- 29:12Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. In fact, I was thinking about that earlier.
- 29:15Speaker 1: You guys know my mom was born on an island.
- 29:18Speaker 1: There is one thing that you need. Anywhere you're tropical
- 29:22Speaker 1: where you can't put screens on the windows because salt
- 29:25Speaker 1: air just eats through metal too quickly, there's no point
- 29:27Speaker 1: in putting the screen on a window, you would not
- 29:30Speaker 1: be able to sleep without a mosquito net.
- 29:32Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 29:33Speaker 1: Mosquito nets are literally lifesavers.
- 29:34Speaker 3: Lifesavers, yeah.
- 29:40Speaker 1: Bugs collected on the outside of the mosquito net, it really,
- 29:44Speaker 1: it's like, whoa.
- 29:45Speaker 3: One of the things when I started watching Survivor, one
- 29:48Speaker 3: of the things, or Naked and Afraid, one of the things,
- 29:52Speaker 3: especially with Naked and Afraid, we remember a specific episode
- 29:55Speaker 3: where a girl had to wind up leaving And when
- 29:57Speaker 3: she came walking out of the woods, they were just
- 29:59Speaker 3: telling you what was going on. Oh, she had some
- 30:00Speaker 3: pretty bad bug bites and she's got to get out
- 30:02Speaker 3: of there. She comes walking out of the woods and
- 30:04Speaker 3: my wife and I gasped like she was missing an arm.
- 30:07Speaker 3: We were like, how do you even like, how do you, she,
- 30:10Speaker 3: it made me start itching myself to the point where
- 30:13Speaker 3: it was uncontrollable. Just looking at her with welt after
- 30:16Speaker 3: welt after welt. Have you ever seen that video where
- 30:18Speaker 3: they have the, the, um, the mosquitoes under the net
- 30:21Speaker 3: and a guy puts his hand.
- 30:22Speaker 1: Oh, You can watch all the mosquitoes trying to get
- 30:24Speaker 1: to it.
- 30:24Speaker 3: And watch the stingers come up through there trying to
- 30:26Speaker 3: get to the hand. It's incredible.
- 30:28Speaker 1: It really is.
- 30:29Speaker 3: It's our biggest enemy. It truly is, yeah.
- 30:32Speaker 1: And that little piece of netting can make such a
- 30:35Speaker 1: huge difference between life and death. But like I said
- 30:37Speaker 1: before the newscast, if you think dengue is bad.
- 30:40Speaker 3: Okay.
- 30:42Speaker 1: Cases of extensively drug-resistant drugs. Shigella infections are increasing in
- 30:49Speaker 1: the United States, and that's raising concerns about a diarrheal
- 30:53Speaker 1: illness that can be spread through sexual contact and has
- 30:57Speaker 1: limited treatment options. According to a report from the Centers
- 31:01Speaker 1: for Disease Control and Prevention, Shigella is a highly contagious
- 31:06Speaker 1: bacteria that can cause diarrhea, fever, and stomach pain. It
- 31:11Speaker 1: spreads through fecal-oral contact. Okay. Contaminated food or water and
- 31:18Speaker 1: sexual contact.
- 31:19Speaker 6: Okay.
- 31:20Speaker 1: Now, infection can occur after exposure to as few as
- 31:24Speaker 1: how many organisms?
- 31:28Speaker 3: Hit me with that again.
- 31:29Speaker 1: So, infection can occur after exposure to as few as
- 31:33Speaker 1: this many organisms. So, this is a bacterium, and you
- 31:37Speaker 1: only have to get this many, this many, and you.
- 31:39Speaker 3: 20. One.
- 31:41Speaker 8: One.
- 31:42Speaker 3: Ten. Oh, God. We're closer. Oh, God. We tied. I
- 31:47Speaker 3: have it up right now. It says a diarrhea. It
- 31:49Speaker 3: says often watery and bloody. It says abdominal pain, fever,
- 31:55Speaker 3: and then a thing called tenismus, which is a frequent
- 31:58Speaker 3: painful urge to go to the bathroom. Number two, with
- 32:02Speaker 3: empty stomach. So apparently you get dry heaves, but in
- 32:05Speaker 3: the other end.
- 32:06Speaker 1: I didn't know that could happen.
- 32:07Speaker 3: Yeah, me either. So like a reverse PSI thing. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 32:11Speaker 3: It's like a booty dry heave.
- 32:17Speaker 1: Drug resistance. Shigella isolates increase from 0% between 2011 and
- 32:21Speaker 1: 2015 to 8.5%. percent in 2023 most patients were adult
- 32:30Speaker 1: men and nearly 38 of those with available data had
- 32:34Speaker 1: to be hospitalized wow nothing to play around with.
- 32:39Speaker 3: Wow i gotta stop drinking out of the toilet.
- 32:41Speaker 1: Immediately wash your hands.
- 32:43Speaker 3: I gotta stop doing that like groceries jesus i'm not
- 32:47Speaker 3: gonna spoon feed that joke yeah don't please don't young
- 32:50Speaker 3: money cash money.
- 32:51Speaker 1: All right And that concludes your JCS News.
- 32:55Speaker 9: News!
- 32:57Speaker 3: Oh, come on. Sorry, I didn't know what to do.
- 33:00Speaker 3: Which was worse?
- 33:01Speaker 16: I don't know.
- 33:01Speaker 3: Which of those was worse? I regret both. And I
- 33:03Speaker 3: only did one. Is it going to be one of
- 33:10Speaker 3: those days? Is that what's happening? Is this the version
- 33:13Speaker 3: of the coffee being poured on the road as the
- 33:15Speaker 3: show right now? Is that what's happening? All right, back
- 33:18Speaker 3: in a sec with Sink Your Sail and Embers Only.
- 33:19Speaker 3: Let's try to get through that without a turd joke.
- 33:22Speaker 2: Watch Jim's face as he listens to your talkbacks live.

- 34:04Speaker 3: pizza oven back there, some Pollywood furniture. Dude, you can

- 34:25Speaker 3: So nice. So nice. Hello, friend. How are you? Very good.
- 34:30Speaker 3: Very good. And happy Thanksgiving weekend. Oh, is it Canadian
- 34:35Speaker 3: Thanksgiving this weekend? Yeah, it's on Monday. On a Monday? Yeah.
- 34:41Speaker 3: That's wild. Am I right? Why not have it on Thursday?
- 34:46Speaker 3: Like any sane country. Why don't you do it like
- 34:50Speaker 3: America does it? Come on. Why are you trying to
- 34:53Speaker 3: be different all the time? What is the traditional Thanksgiving
- 34:56Speaker 3: feast for Canadians? That's an interesting question. Is it not? Yeah,
- 35:00Speaker 3: it's mousse and poutine. Is it mousse and poutine? It's
- 35:04Speaker 3: syrup turkey. It's the same old crap. Is it really?
- 35:07Speaker 3: Is it really the same stuff? Yeah, it's the same stuff.
- 35:10Speaker 3: It's turkey's a big thing.
- 35:11Speaker 1: Green bean casserole?
- 35:14Speaker 3: What's cornbread? There may be a little bit of a
- 35:18Speaker 3: maple touch in some of these sides that you can
- 35:22Speaker 3: only imagine. It's generally the same. I'm aware of the
- 35:26Speaker 3: origin of the U.S. Thanksgiving, right? We never talk about
- 35:30Speaker 3: the blankets part, but that was still part of it.
- 35:34Speaker 3: My question is, what is Canadian Thanksgiving like? What's the history?
- 35:38Speaker 3: On this day, Monday, what big event happened? Absolutely no
- 35:43Speaker 3: reason whatsoever for Canadian Thanksgiving. None. You have nothing.
- 35:48Speaker 1: Nothing.
- 35:49Speaker 3: I mean, I think it was really a harvest. It
- 35:51Speaker 3: was more to celebrate the harvest. It had nothing to
- 35:53Speaker 3: do with the first meal and genocidal maniacs and all
- 35:59Speaker 3: that sort of thing. I've got to tell you, I
- 36:00Speaker 3: think I speak for the entire crew when I say
- 36:02Speaker 3: I'm sorry we asked. Okay, move on. Let's get to it.
- 36:07Speaker 3: Faez joins us every Friday to talk about the wonderful
- 36:09Speaker 3: culinary scene here in Central Florida, some of the ways
- 36:11Speaker 3: that you can enjoy it. Let's get right to the review.
- 36:13Speaker 3: Is it Mordisco or Mordisco? How do you pronounce that? Yeah,
- 36:17Speaker 3: I mean, I think it's Mordisco.
- 36:19Speaker 1: Okay.
- 36:19Speaker 3: Mordisco. And it's a Venezuelan steakhouse out of South Florida.
- 36:23Speaker 3: And let me just say, first off, right off the bat,
- 36:25Speaker 3: Mordisco has the finest smelling parking lot in the entire city.
- 36:30Speaker 4: I mean.
- 36:31Speaker 3: the air is this like thick and beefy. And we
- 36:33Speaker 3: were just like lured to the entrance, like moths to
- 36:36Speaker 3: a flame. It's a fine, fine smelling parking lot.
- 36:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 36:39Speaker 3: That's nice. That's a good sign. I don't see anybody
- 36:42Speaker 3: putting that on their website. No, no. It's a great
- 36:46Speaker 3: smelling parking lot. Just trust me on this. And by
- 36:47Speaker 3: the way, it is at 11-030 International Drive. It's on I-Drive.
- 36:53Speaker 3: All right. And the Saturday Night Fever at Moore Disco
- 36:57Speaker 3: was very high. Was it really? Okay, very good.
- 36:59Speaker 4: All right.
- 37:00Speaker 3: Get it. Anyway, okay. So like I said, it's a
- 37:03Speaker 3: Venezuelan-style steakhouse. They specialize in carne envara, which is essentially–
- 37:08Speaker 3: skewered meats that are Oak grilled, grilled over an Oak flame.
- 37:12Speaker 3: You know, they're sort of like rotated over an Oak flame. Um,
- 37:16Speaker 3: it's in the old Applebee's and it definitely still feels
- 37:19Speaker 3: like an Applebee's. So this, I wouldn't, I wouldn't call
- 37:22Speaker 3: this a high end steakhouse of, you know, the roots,
- 37:25Speaker 3: Chris and Fleming's and that sort of thing. This is
- 37:28Speaker 3: sort of like a mid, mid level, um, a mid-level steakhouse. And, um,
- 37:33Speaker 3: you know, and it's, and it's very fairly priced too.
- 37:35Speaker 3: So it attracts a lot of families. A lot of tourists, very, very,
- 37:39Speaker 3: like I said, the prices are pretty, pretty good. Now,
- 37:44Speaker 3: first off the bat, the first thing I had here
- 37:45Speaker 3: was a ceviche. And I know we're talking steak here,
- 37:49Speaker 3: but the ceviche. Oh, by the way, you know, in
- 37:51Speaker 3: my review, I used the headline Chewed Steak Boogie. Do
- 37:54Speaker 3: you guys get that? Yeah, yeah, Chewed Steak Boogie, right.
- 37:57Speaker 3: The old ZZ Top song, yeah. Okay, all right. See,
- 38:01Speaker 3: my editor didn't feel the same. Anyway, Chewed Steak Boogie.
- 38:04Speaker 3: So the first thing I had was a ceviche. That
- 38:07Speaker 3: looks amazing. I'm telling you, the ceviche here does look amazing.
- 38:10Speaker 3: If you're watching on YouTube, there are photos that Jack
- 38:14Speaker 3: has up. And the ceviche is easily one of the
- 38:16Speaker 3: best ceviches I have had in the city. Damn, dude,
- 38:18Speaker 3: that looks amazing.
- 38:21Speaker 16: It is.
- 38:21Speaker 3: It is. And it's because they use this sort of
- 38:23Speaker 3: fermented milk product. It's sort of like a sour cream,
- 38:26Speaker 3: like a South American sour cream that gives it a
- 38:28Speaker 3: really nice tang. There's really nice texture here with the
- 38:32Speaker 3: crispy quinoa. and a um what is it it's the
- 38:36Speaker 3: sweet plantain croutons damn dude which really yeah there's cherry
- 38:40Speaker 3: tomatoes and there's like this sweet sweet chili oil that's
- 38:42Speaker 3: drizzled over it it's it's really really amazing we were
- 38:45Speaker 3: shocked it's cobia it could be a meat yeah cobia
- 38:47Speaker 3: is one of my favorite fish too that that little
- 38:49Speaker 3: i could eat a bucket of that that looks amazing
- 38:51Speaker 3: buddy i would i would go back to this restaurant
- 38:55Speaker 3: for this alone it was truly truly truly good damn
- 38:58Speaker 3: that looks good um Okay, so now the steaks. So
- 39:00Speaker 3: the steaks are, we had a USDA prime ribeye. It
- 39:03Speaker 3: was like, I believe, 14 ounces for 42 bucks. Not bad.
- 39:07Speaker 3: And like I said, it's oak grilled, really nice flavor.
- 39:10Speaker 3: The thing with Mordisco is that if you order an entree,
- 39:13Speaker 3: you can get an upgrade. You can get an upgrade
- 39:16Speaker 3: of various items. So we chose the picanha, which was
- 39:19Speaker 3: an eight ounce picanha for another, I think, 14 bucks.
- 39:22Speaker 3: So for a total of 60 bucks, we got two
- 39:24Speaker 3: pretty decent sized steaks. The side we got here was
- 39:28Speaker 3: like a Venezuelan, fried cheese, which is a bit different,
- 39:33Speaker 3: you know, as far as steak sides go. A couple
- 39:36Speaker 3: of really nice sauces, a house chimichurri. There's like a
- 39:38Speaker 3: sweet pepper and truffle sauce there too. Really good. The
- 39:42Speaker 3: only thing I came to learn after the fact is
- 39:44Speaker 3: that The beef is pretty much commodity beef. They're getting
- 39:48Speaker 3: it from IVP, which is, I believe, Iowa Beef Packages,
- 39:51Speaker 3: which is owned by Tyson Foods. If you're not into
- 39:54Speaker 3: industrial processed meats and what Tyson Foods and their practices
- 39:58Speaker 3: and stuff, then don't order any steak at the steakhouse. Instead,
- 40:05Speaker 3: get the Butterfly Branzino, which is outstanding. It is so good. Again,
- 40:11Speaker 3: if you're watching on YouTube Live, you can see some
- 40:13Speaker 3: photos here. It's butterflied. It's oat grilled. And I'm telling
- 40:16Speaker 3: you that that skin, the skin is so crisp, it
- 40:19Speaker 3: would make a potato chip jealous. It is really lovely.
- 40:23Speaker 3: That looks amazing as well. I would go back for
- 40:25Speaker 3: the ceviche. Funny enough, I would go back to the
- 40:28Speaker 3: steakhouse for the two seafood items, this fish and the ceviche.
- 40:33Speaker 3: So like I said, it's very family friendly. It's like
- 40:36Speaker 3: an old Applebee's. The price points are very, very fair.
- 40:40Speaker 3: There's a dessert there, too. They have a bass cheesecake,
- 40:42Speaker 3: which I really, really like, and people aren't familiar with
- 40:44Speaker 3: bass cheesecake. It's caramelized at the top. It's on the
- 40:48Speaker 3: dark top, and the inside is very custardy. So, yeah,
- 40:52Speaker 3: check them out if you want to. If you have
- 40:54Speaker 3: an issue with Tyson Foods, like I said, don't eat
- 40:56Speaker 3: the beef. There you go. All right, so Mordisco, not
- 40:59Speaker 3: too bad. All right, yeah. No, I just had a
- 41:01Speaker 3: weird fish question, a fish question. Curiosity. You said Branzino.
- 41:06Speaker 3: I kind of have this weird thing that like all
- 41:09Speaker 3: white fish, I've yet to taste like the spectrum of
- 41:12Speaker 3: white fish. All white fish taste the same to me.
- 41:15Speaker 3: So like Branzino is a white fish. Can you tell
- 41:18Speaker 3: the difference between white fish or is that just a
- 41:21Speaker 3: me thing? Yeah, I mean, I think it's very hard.
- 41:23Speaker 3: Like a lot of white fish do taste the same.
- 41:25Speaker 3: In the case of Branzino, it's a Mediterranean fish. It's
- 41:29Speaker 3: a sea bass, but, you know, they call it a Branzino. But,
- 41:31Speaker 3: you know, a lot of times, you know, back in
- 41:34Speaker 3: the day, there were times when restaurants would use tilapia
- 41:38Speaker 3: and they would call it something else. They would call
- 41:39Speaker 3: it grouper. And with that, you could definitely taste the difference.
- 41:43Speaker 3: But with like many, many white fish like swinefish, tilapia,
- 41:47Speaker 3: even branzino, it can get a little difficult. But it's
- 41:52Speaker 3: the texture, too, because swordfish is way different than cobia.
- 41:55Speaker 3: My cousins catch cobia all the time. I'd cook it
- 41:57Speaker 3: for them, just pan-sear it, throw it in the oven
- 41:59Speaker 3: with a little pan sauce with white wine and some cream,
- 42:01Speaker 3: and it would be absolutely perfect with hardly anything done
- 42:04Speaker 3: to it. But I would agree that a lot of
- 42:05Speaker 3: the big, flaky whitefish do have a lot of the
- 42:08Speaker 3: same flavor. I think it's just the consistency or texture
- 42:10Speaker 3: that changes a little bit. And there's like a mild
- 42:13Speaker 3: flavor to it too, though, which then, you know, caters
- 42:15Speaker 3: to a wider audience. Yeah, for sure. I suppose those
- 42:17Speaker 3: are like a fishier fish, like swordfish. Let's move on
- 42:19Speaker 3: to Mikado's Bakery and Cafe right there in Winter Park.
- 42:22Speaker 3: You did. It finally opened. Mercato's Bakery and Cafe has
- 42:25Speaker 3: opened in the old coop space right there at 610
- 42:28Speaker 3: West Morse Boulevard. And Mercato's is like a local Colombian
- 42:31Speaker 3: bakery chain. You know, they have Pandabono, as I'm sure
- 42:36Speaker 3: you're quite aware. And by the way, Jim, you know
- 42:39Speaker 3: what Pandabono? It's like a fluffy bun. It's made from
- 42:45Speaker 3: yucca flour and corn flour and And it's typically enjoyed.
- 42:50Speaker 3: Do you know what it's typically enjoyed with? Normally it
- 42:53Speaker 3: would be like butter or honey or something like that,
- 42:55Speaker 3: but obviously it's not that. Is it like a jam
- 42:58Speaker 3: of some sort? It's hot chocolate.
- 43:01Speaker 1: That's the typical pairing. And you have to put cheese
- 43:05Speaker 1: in your hot chocolate.
- 43:07Speaker 3: Yeah, and there's cheese in this pandemono as well. Wow, really?
- 43:10Speaker 1: Yes.
- 43:11Speaker 3: That's wild. Cheese and hot chocolate.
- 43:13Speaker 1: Yeah, they put cheese in the hot chocolate.
- 43:14Speaker 3: And then it's in their soup.
- 43:17Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 43:18Speaker 3: So anyway, so Makata has opened. They've soft opened. I
- 43:21Speaker 3: believe they're open until 6 p.m. tonight, and then tomorrow
- 43:23Speaker 3: they're open from 8 in the morning until 6, I think.
- 43:26Speaker 3: I think typically they open at 7 o'clock in the
- 43:27Speaker 3: morning because they also have an on-site roast thing. So
- 43:33Speaker 3: they are roasting your beans on site. So if people
- 43:35Speaker 3: are into coffee, they're getting their beans shipped from Columbia
- 43:38Speaker 3: like I think once every two weeks or something like that.
- 43:40Speaker 1: Damn, really?
- 43:41Speaker 3: All right. Yeah, they're doing on-site roasting. Check them out.
- 43:44Speaker 3: Makato's Bakery and Cafe in the old coop space. Very nice.
- 43:47Speaker 3: Let's move on to Gentry's Barbecue now operating the Hyperbolic
- 43:50Speaker 3: Brewing Kitchen in Ivanhoe Village. Yeah, that's right. So Hyperbolic
- 43:55Speaker 3: Brewing is taking over the Hammered Lamb space there in
- 43:58Speaker 3: Ivanhoe Village, I believe. Don't quote me on that. I
- 44:02Speaker 3: think it's 1235 North Orange Avenue in Ivanhoe Village. And
- 44:05Speaker 3: they just recently announced that Gentry's Barbecue, which closed their
- 44:09Speaker 3: shop in Winter Park right behind the Krispy Kreme, that
- 44:11Speaker 3: they're going to be operating the kitchen there. So Chris Gentry,
- 44:15Speaker 3: you know, he's been around the scene for quite a while.
- 44:18Speaker 3: He's been popping up here and there and he's finally
- 44:20Speaker 3: getting back into the, you know, into cooking in the kitchen.
- 44:23Speaker 3: And he'll be serving everything from his Central Texas-style brisket
- 44:27Speaker 3: to pulled pork to turkey, smash burgers, salads. He's selling
- 44:32Speaker 3: his sauces. He makes his own sauces. And Hyperbolic Brewing,
- 44:38Speaker 3: I think they're aiming to open on November 21st, which
- 44:43Speaker 3: is when Jingle Eve takes place there in that neighborhood.
- 44:46Speaker 3: They open up all the businesses. So that's what they're
- 44:48Speaker 3: aiming for. I think they're going to have like a
- 44:51Speaker 3: 10 barrel system there. So beer and barbecue coming to
- 44:55Speaker 3: Ivanhoe Village and courtesy of Gentry's. Sounds good to me, man. Yeah,
- 44:59Speaker 3: that is a beautiful pairing. Beer and barbecue always works.
- 45:02Speaker 4: Always.
- 45:03Speaker 3: For sure. All right, let's move on to Udon 50
- 45:06Speaker 3: opening on October 2nd. October 22nd. So this is Sonny Nguyen,
- 45:11Speaker 3: the guy from Domo, from Tori Tori, Edoboy, others. This
- 45:15Speaker 3: is his brand new concept opening October 22nd right in
- 45:18Speaker 3: the heart of Mills 50 at 1222 East Colonial Drive.
- 45:21Speaker 3: It's going to specialize in udon noodles, but a Tokyo
- 45:24Speaker 3: style udon noodles, which really it's about the broth. The
- 45:27Speaker 3: broth is going to be a little bolder, more umami forward.
- 45:31Speaker 3: They add a lot of like a dark season with
- 45:33Speaker 3: a lot of dark soy sauce. So that creates a
- 45:36Speaker 3: bolder as opposed to a lighter kind of broth that
- 45:39Speaker 3: we see at Zaru, which is not not not too
- 45:41Speaker 3: far away. Let's see. So it'll be they'll have a
- 45:46Speaker 3: 10 seat counter and I think you'll have eight seats
- 45:48Speaker 3: in the dining room. He's opening October 22nd. And and Ross,
- 45:52Speaker 3: you want to know this? He will be serving a
- 45:55Speaker 3: Bukkake Udon. OK, great. Am I supposed to look into that?
- 46:01Speaker 3: How do you– what? Want to help us out with
- 46:04Speaker 3: that a little bit, buddy? Oh, well. Are you talking
- 46:06Speaker 3: to me or are you talking to Ross? No, I'm
- 46:07Speaker 3: talking to you, specifically you.
- 46:09Speaker 16: Oh, me.
- 46:10Speaker 3: I see. For some reason, I thought Ross was the
- 46:12Speaker 3: big bukkake. Anyway, bukkake udon, for those who don't know,
- 46:16Speaker 3: bukkake is actually an actual dish. It is those udon
- 46:21Speaker 3: noodles that are– that are just splattered with a little
- 46:24Speaker 3: bit of a very concentrated broth. Why splattered? Why splattered?
- 46:28Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 46:28Speaker 3: It's just splattered with it, buddy. It's splattered, yeah. You
- 46:31Speaker 3: know what udon is, right? The big fat noodle is
- 46:32Speaker 3: my favorite. Do you know what the first word is?
- 46:34Speaker 1: Yeah, buddy.
- 46:35Speaker 3: I get it. It's a city in Japan. It's good.
- 46:37Speaker 7: It's fine.
- 46:37Speaker 3: Nothing wrong with that.
- 46:38Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 46:40Speaker 3: Yeah, October 22nd, that is when Udon opens up and
- 46:43Speaker 3: you can get your bukkake noodles. Yes, you can. Yes,
- 46:46Speaker 3: you can. Yeah, yeah, yeah. All right, cool. I'm mature.
- 46:50Speaker 3: It's fine. I'm an adult. It's fine. Deb's not laughing.
- 46:53Speaker 3: Nobody should be laughing. I'll tell her on the break.
- 46:55Speaker 3: It's an actual thing. It's an actual thing. Bukkake noodles
- 46:57Speaker 3: are an actual thing. All right, so that is Udon
- 47:00Speaker 3: 50 opening October 22nd in the old, over there Mills 50.
- 47:03Speaker 3: Is it in a building that used to be? Yeah,
- 47:06Speaker 3: it used to be Doshi. Remember Doshi, the Japanese donut spot? Yeah,
- 47:10Speaker 3: so it's a pretty small space. Like I said, it's
- 47:11Speaker 3: a 10-seat counter, eight seats in the dining room. I
- 47:15Speaker 3: think he's having– you may even want to send an email.
- 47:18Speaker 3: I think he's having some friends and family type nights
- 47:22Speaker 3: prior to the October 22nd open, but that's when they
- 47:24Speaker 3: will open. Give me 30 seconds on Hayashi Toro or Taro. Yeah,
- 47:28Speaker 3: Hayashi Taro opening again in Mills 50, 714 North Mills
- 47:33Speaker 3: Avenue where Royalty used to be. It's Louis Lin's takeout
- 47:36Speaker 3: omakase bento concept. Oh my gosh, look at that. Whoa, dude,
- 47:42Speaker 3: look at that. So takeout omakase is going to be
- 47:46Speaker 3: a new thing. People who can't afford to go to
- 47:48Speaker 3: a restaurant and spend hundreds of dollars on an omakase concept.
- 47:51Speaker 3: they'll be able to get some takeout. It's called orizume.
- 47:55Speaker 3: That is the Japanese word for takeout omakase. They'll be
- 47:59Speaker 3: in these really nice foldable wooden boxes. They'll range from
- 48:03Speaker 3: $ 25 to $ 75. He's also snagged the chef from Kapo-san, David-san.
- 48:10Speaker 3: He will be behind the counter. He's going to have
- 48:14Speaker 3: a really solid matcha and sake program. He's going to have, again,
- 48:19Speaker 3: a bench seating for like eight. And then later on,
- 48:23Speaker 3: he will have a counter seating for six people in which,
- 48:26Speaker 3: and it'll have like nighttime omakases. But right now it'll
- 48:29Speaker 3: be open from 12 to 6 PM. And he's looking
- 48:31Speaker 3: to open after October 25th. Yeah, dude, that looks amazing.
- 48:35Speaker 3: Those boxes look absolutely, they look fake. They look like
- 48:38Speaker 3: a gift you'd give somebody.
- 48:40Speaker 16: Yeah.
- 48:40Speaker 3: And take on omakase, it's all about the color. You know,
- 48:42Speaker 3: you want to be, offer something very colorful. It's very Very,
- 48:46Speaker 3: you know, intricately arranged. It looks very pretty. And, of course,
- 48:50Speaker 3: he's getting, like, all high-end seafood flown straight in from the,
- 48:53Speaker 3: you know, Toyosu fish market in Tokyo. Wow. So you're
- 48:56Speaker 3: going to have, like, solid cuts of fish. You're going
- 48:58Speaker 3: to have omakase-level cuts of fish and seafood here, but
- 49:01Speaker 3: in a box, and you can enjoy it at home.
- 49:03Speaker 2: Wow.
- 49:03Speaker 3: Without the inconvenience of ever having to leave your house.
- 49:05Speaker 3: That looks amazing. Well, good lineup this week, dude. That's

- 50:26Speaker 5: The Krista Pike attorney who said that her execution was
- 50:29Speaker 5: a misjustice?
- 50:30Speaker 3: Screw you, dude. The only misjustice in this whole thing?
- 50:34Speaker 3: Belongs with the mom of the victim who came there
- 50:36Speaker 3: to watch a monster get executed for killing her kid.
- 50:39Speaker 3: And she didn't get to see it because they botched it.
- 50:41Speaker 3: That's the only misjustice that's happened in this whole case.
- 50:44Speaker 3: And also, booty driving is the funniest thing I've ever heard, Jim. Oh,
- 50:49Speaker 3: it's so funny, Jimmy. Have a good weekend, guys. I'm sorry.
- 50:54Speaker 3: I tuned in a little late.
- 50:56Speaker 1: The governor was saying that it's a large.
- 51:00Speaker 3: Lopsided, dangerous, ugly system. He did, yeah. Was he talking
- 51:05Speaker 3: about his administration? I hope so.
- 51:09Speaker 8: Kim Jams, did you know if you say V-5-O in
- 51:14Speaker 8: any order seven times, that's actually Mike Tyson's phone number.
- 51:19Speaker 3: V-5-O, V-O-P, people. Oh, that killed Jack.
- 51:26Speaker 1: Twice.
- 51:27Speaker 3: That destroyed Jack.
- 51:28Speaker 4: Twice.
- 51:29Speaker 3: All right, welcome back to the Jim Colbert Show. Your
- 51:31Speaker 3: 4 o'clock keyword is win. W-I-N. Jeez, come on, dude.
- 51:35Speaker 3: Keep it together. We're adults here. We're professionals. That should
- 51:39Speaker 3: not do it to us.
- 51:40Speaker 7: W-I-N.
- 51:41Speaker 3: Area code, P5O. Go to realradio.fm and send that away
- 51:47Speaker 3: for your chance at $ 1, 000. And you can enter on
- 51:49Speaker 3: the iHeartRadio app while you're there. Making sure number one
- 51:52Speaker 3: preset pretty please. I am Jim. There's Deb.
- 51:55Speaker 1: Hello.
- 51:56Speaker 3: Jack. And Ross as well. Believe in yourself. Whiskey of
- 52:00Speaker 3: the Week coming up in just a few minutes. Actually,
- 52:02Speaker 3: next segment. Looking forward to it. Continuing on with the
- 52:06Speaker 3: Cryptid collection.
- 52:08Speaker 6: Yeah, another really cool label we'll get to gander at
- 52:11Speaker 6: as well.
- 52:12Speaker 3: That's awesome. So I was telling you guys in the
- 52:14Speaker 3: beginning of the show, I had to go to the
- 52:15Speaker 3: dentist yesterday. Remember I was telling you they cleaned half
- 52:18Speaker 3: my teeth? Oh, you... And then they cleaned the other half.
- 52:21Speaker 3: Make sure that you come back. Remember I was telling
- 52:23Speaker 3: you how weird that was because I remember doing them,
- 52:26Speaker 3: you know, top and bottom. Yeah. Now they do it
- 52:28Speaker 3: like in half. Yeah. Like I've not had that before.
- 52:30Speaker 3: So did it in half. They did the first half.
- 52:33Speaker 3: And then yesterday, what was today? Today's Friday? Yeah. Yeah, Wednesday, actually,
- 52:38Speaker 3: I believe it was. They split it in two to
- 52:40Speaker 3: charge you more?
- 52:41Speaker 1: No, no, no.
- 52:41Speaker 3: It's just I really tried to figure out what it was,
- 52:44Speaker 3: and somebody on the texting service said it was because
- 52:46Speaker 3: they clean one side so you have some place to eat.
- 52:48Speaker 1: Right, exactly.
- 52:49Speaker 3: As if I wouldn't eat.
- 52:49Speaker 2: I guess.
- 52:50Speaker 1: Because it beats you painful.
- 52:51Speaker 3: Yeah, I guess, maybe.
- 52:52Speaker 1: So now they've learned over the years instead of doing
- 52:54Speaker 1: the whole top, which leaves you having to be in
- 52:58Speaker 1: pain to have your meals.
- 52:59Speaker 3: I told you they do the magic wand thing now,
- 53:01Speaker 3: and that's literally what it's called. It's called the magic
- 53:03Speaker 3: pain eraser, and it's like a weird wand. They just
- 53:06Speaker 3: rub on your gums. No shots, no anesthetic, no numbing solution,
- 53:10Speaker 3: none of that. They just rub it on your gums
- 53:12Speaker 3: for two or three minutes, and there's no pain while
- 53:14Speaker 3: they do dental work. And it's amazing. It is absolutely flabbergasting.
- 53:18Speaker 3: Still do not get it. But it works. I wouldn't think, though,
- 53:21Speaker 3: that's every office. No, it's the first time I've ever
- 53:24Speaker 3: experienced this. Because there's one time I went to one dentist,
- 53:27Speaker 3: and then I was like, all right, cool. This is
- 53:29Speaker 3: what dentists are like. And then I went to another dentist,
- 53:32Speaker 3: and I went, wow, you have better stuff. 100%, dude.
- 53:34Speaker 10: I mean, 100%.
- 53:35Speaker 3: Matter of fact, I made a comment to my tech. Saying, man,
- 53:39Speaker 3: you guys have all the gadgets, all the fun tools
- 53:42Speaker 3: and stuff. But the one thing that she mentioned, she goes, hey, look,
- 53:45Speaker 3: the back of your teeth get some buildup there. And
- 53:47Speaker 3: I don't know if you can't get back there with
- 53:49Speaker 3: a brush or whatever, but I suggest this. And I
- 53:53Speaker 3: did not even know that this thing, even when it
- 53:55Speaker 3: was around, I had no idea that it was an act.
- 54:00Speaker 3: It seemed like a novelty to me. What'd she say?
- 54:02Speaker 3: Take your dentures out and soak them? Shut up, Jack.
- 54:05Speaker 3: I do not have dentures. Not yet. What machine? Waterpik?
- 54:09Speaker 3: Waterpik is the answer.
- 54:10Speaker 1: Oh, really?
- 54:10Speaker 3: Yeah, they're like, hey, you should get a Waterpik and
- 54:13Speaker 3: then basically pressure wash the back of your teeth to
- 54:17Speaker 3: get in those areas, right? So I have some gum loss.
- 54:19Speaker 3: I've got to take better care of that stuff back there.
- 54:21Speaker 3: And when she said Waterpik, I kind of freaked out
- 54:22Speaker 3: and kind of laughed a little bit. I thought she
- 54:24Speaker 3: was joking. Like, I didn't have any idea the water
- 54:26Speaker 3: picks were even still around. Dude, that thing was around
- 54:28Speaker 3: in the mid-70s.
- 54:29Speaker 6: Yeah, but not only are they back, but they're now handheld,
- 54:32Speaker 6: and you charge them with a USB. Oh, so there's no, like, tube? No,
- 54:36Speaker 6: you hold it like it's a toothbrush. Oh, you fill
- 54:39Speaker 6: it up with water or something? You fill it up
- 54:40Speaker 6: with water, and it's handheld.
- 54:42Speaker 3: Wow. Battery-powered. I couldn't do it.
- 54:44Speaker 6: Yeah, it gets messy. I was doing it instead of flossing,
- 54:49Speaker 6: and I'm like, there's no way this is better than flossing.
- 54:52Speaker 3: So I talked to her about it, and I said
- 54:53Speaker 3: that very thing. I said, you know, I remember my
- 54:55Speaker 3: cousins had one, and we used to have water fights
- 54:58Speaker 3: with it. That's all we did. We just shoot at
- 55:00Speaker 3: each other because it does shoot out a pretty good
- 55:01Speaker 3: little stream of water, right? It does, yeah, yeah. And
- 55:03Speaker 3: I remember using it one time, and it actually hurt.
- 55:06Speaker 3: Like the water was coming out so fast, it wasn't
- 55:08Speaker 3: like pleasant, you know? It's actually digging down into your teeth. And, um,
- 55:12Speaker 3: and I said, it, I said, they're very messy. And
- 55:15Speaker 3: she said, well, a lot of people use them in
- 55:17Speaker 3: the shower now. Like they take it in the shower
- 55:20Speaker 3: with them and they do the water picking. They won't
- 55:22Speaker 3: brush their teeth. I mean, some people do brush their
- 55:24Speaker 3: teeth in the shower, which is wild to me, but
- 55:26Speaker 3: they do the water picking thing in the shower so
- 55:28Speaker 3: that it doesn't go everywhere. Never even knew the damn
- 55:31Speaker 3: thing even existed anymore. Literally thought it was like a
- 55:34Speaker 3: novelty sold by Ronco back in the day. But I
- 55:37Speaker 3: guess it's a legit thing, and they actually said you
- 55:40Speaker 3: may want to consider getting one. You can get them
- 55:42Speaker 3: for like $ 15 on Amazon Prime this week. Oh, really? Yeah.
- 55:47Speaker 3: It's not a lot.
- 55:47Speaker 6: Like $ 20 you can get one.
- 55:49Speaker 3: So she didn't even say how often I'm supposed to
- 55:51Speaker 3: do it or anything like that. Daily. Is it daily?
- 55:53Speaker 3: Is that what I'm supposed to do? The answer is
- 55:55Speaker 3: always daily. Is it really always daily? And I couldn't
- 55:58Speaker 3: do it. It was bad when I did it. It
- 56:00Speaker 3: was messy, bloody. It hurt, right?
- 56:02Speaker 1: It hurt.
- 56:03Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah. I felt like I was pressure washing my gums.
- 56:06Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah.
- 56:07Speaker 3: You're supposed to. That's what's supposed to make them tough, right?
- 56:08Speaker 3: A lot of them, they have, like, different sensitivities. Like, it's,
- 56:12Speaker 3: you know. Yeah, different levels, right?
- 56:13Speaker 6: Different levels, so you can start out lightly, and then, like,
- 56:16Speaker 6: pulse or straight, and, you know, you can do that.
- 56:20Speaker 6: But it hurts at first because you don't do it,
- 56:23Speaker 6: but the more you do it, you get used to it.
- 56:24Speaker 3: That's like flossing. Yeah. Because when you floss, if your
- 56:27Speaker 3: gums are tender, you'll bleed, but the more you floss,
- 56:30Speaker 3: your gums will get real tough and real pink and healthy.
- 56:33Speaker 6: The texter says the dental magic wand, officially known as
- 56:37Speaker 6: the wand, single-tooth anesthesia system, works by using a computer
- 56:41Speaker 6: to precisely control the flow rate and pressure of local
- 56:45Speaker 6: anesthesia during a dental injection.
- 56:48Speaker 3: There is no injection, guys.
- 56:49Speaker 1: That also reminds me, do you guys ever remember the
- 56:53Speaker 1: glaucoma test where they would blow that puff of air
- 56:57Speaker 1: into your eye?
- 56:58Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 56:59Speaker 1: Say goodbye to that.
- 57:00Speaker 3: Really?
- 57:01Speaker 1: It's the most amazing thing. I saw this recently when
- 57:05Speaker 1: my mom had some cataract surgery and they put this
- 57:08Speaker 1: thing on her like close to your eye and you
- 57:11Speaker 1: don't see it. It happens so quick, but This little
- 57:14Speaker 1: probe juts out and touches the surface of your eye.
- 57:17Speaker 3: It does not.
- 57:18Speaker 1: It does, too. They showed it to us. But you
- 57:21Speaker 1: don't feel it. You don't see it happen. They just
- 57:23Speaker 1: hold it there. And the next thing you know, they're like, okay,
- 57:25Speaker 1: you're done. Like 30 seconds later. No more jumping because
- 57:29Speaker 1: that puff.
- 57:30Speaker 6: Because you're waiting for that puff to come.
- 57:32Speaker 1: Yeah. And it always makes you jump. It always makes
- 57:36Speaker 1: you jump. But now they take the pressure in your
- 57:38Speaker 1: eyeball and you never even know it's happening.
- 57:40Speaker 3: When I started in or seeing Dr. Filatosky, um, I
- 57:44Speaker 3: remember where we were. I remember going into his office.
- 57:46Speaker 3: When you go in there, they do those laser surgeries
- 57:49Speaker 3: out in the open. Oh yeah.
- 57:50Speaker 1: It's like an open bay.
- 57:51Speaker 3: It's an open, like when the, where they do the
- 57:54Speaker 3: laser surgery, where you get your laser surgery done is
- 57:57Speaker 3: I can walk up and watch it happen. Like from
- 57:59Speaker 3: me to Deb, um, Yeah. It's like a glass room
- 58:02Speaker 3: inside the lobby there, and you can watch it happen.
- 58:04Speaker 3: It is trippy AF.
- 58:07Speaker 1: It is, but what a great experience. What a great doctor.
- 58:10Speaker 3: He's a good dude, man.
- 58:11Speaker 1: He really, really is. Thanks, my mom, for, you know,
- 58:13Speaker 1: thank you for letting us take care of you. He
- 58:15Speaker 1: took a photo.
- 58:16Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 58:17Speaker 1: Celebrating after it was really cool. But how it's changed, right?
- 58:22Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 58:23Speaker 1: Did they say anything, though, if it is better than flossing?
- 58:26Speaker 1: Because I'm with Jack. If it doesn't have to be
- 58:28Speaker 1: that messy and you can still get the same job done.
- 58:31Speaker 3: For me, it's like because I drink. That's what she said.
- 58:34Speaker 3: She goes, how many cups of coffee do you drink
- 58:35Speaker 3: every day? So I drink two cups of coffee almost
- 58:37Speaker 3: every day of my life. She said, well, if you're
- 58:39Speaker 3: not getting back there with your brush good enough, that's
- 58:41Speaker 3: going to build up a bunch of stuff. And that's
- 58:43Speaker 3: why it's easier to use the water pick because it's
- 58:45Speaker 3: got the little hook thing in there. You can just
- 58:46Speaker 3: kind of blast it out. You don't even have to
- 58:48Speaker 3: see it. You can feel it. And as long as
- 58:49Speaker 3: you're doing that, that's what she wants me to do. Okay. So,
- 58:52Speaker 3: I mean, I don't know. I'm going to try it.
- 58:54Speaker 1: So who's getting him the water pick for Christmas?
- 58:56Speaker 3: I got.
- 58:58Speaker 2: It.
- 58:58Speaker 3: I'll have one before then, that's for sure. I got
- 59:02Speaker 3: bad gums because of a decade of Newports.
- 59:04Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 59:05Speaker 3: Yeah, man, it's backing up. It's not good. Do you
- 59:07Speaker 3: remember what I got? Gingivitis? No, it's worse.
- 59:11Speaker 1: What?
- 59:12Speaker 3: I don't know how to say it right, so I'm
- 59:14Speaker 3: going to have to say it wrong. I got periodontitis. Oh, periodontitis. Periodontitis. Periodontitis.
- 59:24Speaker 3: That's what they said. What is it? I haven't gotten
- 59:26Speaker 3: it right once.
- 59:26Speaker 1: Periodontitis?
- 59:28Speaker 3: I told people it was wrong and then said it
- 59:29Speaker 3: wrong two other times. I know it's wrong, but periodontitis sucks. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 59:35Speaker 3: Are you a flosser? Hey, dude, that's the thing, man.
- 59:40Speaker 3: Flossing is as important as brushing, dog.
- 59:42Speaker 1: Even more so. I say even more so because, yeah,
- 59:45Speaker 1: I mean, if I don't floss, it doesn't even feel
- 59:48Speaker 1: like I brushed my teeth.
- 59:49Speaker 3: And look, I got told that the violins are bad.
- 59:52Speaker 3: I just bought a bag of 100 violins. They're so wasteful.
- 59:55Speaker 3: The little things. And they're like, well, go get this
- 59:56Speaker 3: other floss. And it comes like a paper thing. And
- 59:59Speaker 3: I'm like, okay. Glide?
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: Huh? Did they recommend glide?
- 1:00:02Speaker 3: My buddy, there ain't... You have to order this from
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: another country. It is so effing expensive. It's like a little...
- 1:00:08Speaker 3: Of course. Of course. Listen, they told me to get
- 1:00:12Speaker 3: this stuff. And I'm like, well, they're like, get this.
- 1:00:13Speaker 3: This is the best stuff. Diva floss. We go and
- 1:00:15Speaker 3: get it, right? It's basically what it is, dude. And
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: I have to tell you, you can tell a gigantic difference.
- 1:00:21Speaker 3: It gets so much stuff out of your teeth as
- 1:00:24Speaker 3: opposed to the little things.
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: You're going to have to give me the name. I
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: don't like those little violins because they're wasteful.
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: I just like a double loop of– because I'll double
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: up the floss. I don't go one strand. I go two.
- 1:00:34Speaker 3: I didn't know that. I thought that was against the rules.
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: I don't care.
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: I had no idea you could do that.
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: If I'm going in there, we're going in there. We're
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: going to make it count.
- 1:00:44Speaker 3: You got to get some floss, buddy. You got to
- 1:00:45Speaker 3: floss every day of your life. Every day. I think
- 1:00:47Speaker 3: it's more. I think it's like a– Three or four
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: times a quarter thing. No, no, no, no, no. It's
- 1:00:52Speaker 3: every day, buddy. That's what I used to.
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: It will make a huge difference.
- 1:00:55Speaker 6: I used to do that until I spent like $ 1, 100
- 1:00:57Speaker 6: on fluoride treatment or treatment because I wasn't flossing.
- 1:01:01Speaker 3: Yeah, every single day. I got bad news, man. My
- 1:01:04Speaker 3: mouth is messed up. But I got wisdom teeth coming in,
- 1:01:07Speaker 3: so now my buck teeth are kissing. Dude, you got whizzies?
- 1:01:10Speaker 3: I got wisdom teeth, and now I can feel my
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: buck teeth start to overlap each other.
- 1:01:15Speaker 4: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: Because they're getting smashed.
- 1:01:17Speaker 3: You don't get those whizzies out of there, dude. Those
- 1:01:19Speaker 3: things are gnarly. You got to get those things gone.
- 1:01:21Speaker 3: So much so, I don't even, I can't believe I'm
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: sharing this, but in like the last month, it just stopped.
- 1:01:27Speaker 3: But for the last month, I could feel my left
- 1:01:30Speaker 3: front big tooth click. Every now and then because it's
- 1:01:34Speaker 3: getting smashed into the other tooth. You got to get
- 1:01:38Speaker 3: that out of there, buddy. I super do. Yeah, you–
- 1:01:41Speaker 3: I really, really do. A lot of other things too.
- 1:01:45Speaker 3: But I'll buy a roof instead. That wisdom tooth thing–
- 1:01:48Speaker 3: and I'm not trying to get everybody traumatized out there.
- 1:01:50Speaker 3: That was one of the most traumatic experiences I've ever
- 1:01:52Speaker 3: had medically.
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: Same here.
- 1:01:54Speaker 3: Dude, they had– this guy went into my mouth with a– Nice. Okay, stop.
- 1:02:01Speaker 3: So I'm laying there on the thing, right? And he's
- 1:02:04Speaker 3: got the tray of tools, right?
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: A tray?
- 1:02:06Speaker 3: He's got the tray of tools, right?
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: Thank you, Jack.
- 1:02:11Speaker 3: I can't tell a story about dentistry? He puts his
- 1:02:13Speaker 3: tool in your mouth. Keep going. You were laying there.
- 1:02:17Speaker 3: And then he put his stool into your mouth.
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: But he was so gentle.
- 1:02:21Speaker 3: Then we had these noodles. I can't remember the name
- 1:02:26Speaker 3: of them.
- 1:02:26Speaker 4: 407-916-1041.
- 1:02:26Speaker 3: Text us at 77031. Back in a sec with more
- 1:02:29Speaker 3: of the Jim Colbert Show. Whiskey of the Week up next.
- 1:02:31Speaker 10: Brother Jim, struggling to find justification in why this person
- 1:02:36Speaker 10: would say anything to you about pouring coffee on the street.
- 1:02:41Speaker 10: Back in the day in Hawaii, say that to the
- 1:02:44Speaker 10: wrong person. That might get you pulled out through the
- 1:02:47Speaker 10: car window. Couple false cracks, you might need a medevac,
- 1:02:52Speaker 10: but yeah, man, total care and move.
- 1:02:55Speaker 8: Absolutely.
- 1:02:56Speaker 10: I mean, you still got your cup.
- 1:02:58Speaker 8: Aloha.
- 1:02:59Speaker 3: Aloha, brother.
- 1:03:01Speaker 6: Just keep pouring them coffee out the window, Jim, near
- 1:03:04Speaker 6: the water.
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: Because coffee gives you energy, right? So the fish drinks it,
- 1:03:08Speaker 3: you know, they get energy, and then, you know, they
- 1:03:11Speaker 3: go do more quickies, and then, you know, next thing
- 1:03:14Speaker 3: you know, you got... More fishes in the water. Hey, man.
- 1:03:19Speaker 10: Hey, Colbert crew.
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: It's Sarah.
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: What's going on?
- 1:03:22Speaker 9: I'm at work, so I won't be able to listen
- 1:03:23Speaker 9: to the rest of the show until my lunch break.
- 1:03:25Speaker 9: But there has been some mornings where I've been very
- 1:03:29Speaker 9: hungover and drinking my coffee on the way to work.
- 1:03:32Speaker 9: And I have to pull over and I have to
- 1:03:34Speaker 9: get rid of that coffee. And now I feel really
- 1:03:37Speaker 9: bad because I have been hurting the environment. I mean,
- 1:03:40Speaker 9: mind you, all that was like over a year ago, right?
- 1:03:43Speaker 3: You're fine. The environment's fine.
- 1:03:45Speaker 9: I've ruined the environment with throw-up coffee.
- 1:03:49Speaker 3: Throw-up coffee.
- 1:03:50Speaker 8: Oh, yeah.
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: That's how she had to get rid of the coffee.
- 1:03:53Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, yeah. No cup needed. Your 4 o'clock keyword
- 1:03:56Speaker 3: is win, W-I-N. Got about eight minutes or so to
- 1:03:58Speaker 3: get over to realradio.fm and send that away for your
- 1:04:00Speaker 3: chance at $ 1, 000. And remember, we had two winners back-to-back today,
- 1:04:04Speaker 3: so the safe is open. Go get that money, guys.
- 1:04:07Speaker 3: Win is the word. I'm Jim. There's Deb.
- 1:04:09Speaker 17: Hello.
- 1:04:11Speaker 3: And Ross as well.
- 1:04:12Speaker 8: True.
- 1:04:12Speaker 3: Let's do Whiskey of the Week.
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: Forward slash distillery and blending house present Whiskey of the
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: Week on the Jim Colbert Show.
- 1:04:24Speaker 3: That's right, guys. Whiskey of the Week brought to you
- 1:04:26Speaker 3: by our good friends over at forward slash drink forward
- 1:04:29Speaker 3: slash dot com on Instagram. Drink forward slash. This is
- 1:04:33Speaker 3: a blending house here in Orlando, Florida. The only one
- 1:04:35Speaker 3: in the city of Orlando. Actually, I think one of
- 1:04:37Speaker 3: the only ones in Florida. They are very rare. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:04:40Speaker 3: And what they do is they bring in one of their. Uh,
- 1:04:42Speaker 3: blended whiskeys that we feature every single week. Hoping that
- 1:04:45Speaker 3: you'll go over there. Yesterday, we had a really nice text.
- 1:04:47Speaker 3: And actually this past weekend, I talked to somebody who
- 1:04:50Speaker 3: on our recommendation went over to forward slash, uh, to
- 1:04:54Speaker 3: get one of their cocktails. They're like their Halloween thing
- 1:04:56Speaker 3: is like full blast right now.
- 1:04:57Speaker 4: Right.
- 1:04:57Speaker 3: I will be judging their costume contest on Halloween night. Dude,
- 1:05:01Speaker 3: that's awesome. I will be there. Yeah. But my daughter, actually,
- 1:05:04Speaker 3: my daughter has a friend that went over and said
- 1:05:06Speaker 3: that she got this margarita esque kind of cocktail. That
- 1:05:09Speaker 3: was one of the best things ever. Uh, And you
- 1:05:11Speaker 3: can actually go to their website, and they show you
- 1:05:12Speaker 3: the list of their Halloween cocktails. Simply amazing. But we
- 1:05:16Speaker 3: had a text yesterday that said, hey, look, on your recommendation,
- 1:05:19Speaker 3: my wife and I went to Forward Slash and got
- 1:05:21Speaker 3: some whiskey. And not only were the cocktails amazing, the
- 1:05:24Speaker 3: guys came out, and when I told them it was
- 1:05:25Speaker 3: from the Jim Colbert show, they gave them both a
- 1:05:28Speaker 3: free shot. Which is like one of those coolest things.
- 1:05:30Speaker 3: Every time they've been in studio, they keep offering that.
- 1:05:33Speaker 3: And hello, our listeners, go there, get your free shot.
- 1:05:37Speaker 3: Not to mention it's a cool-ass spot. Yeah, very cool.
- 1:05:39Speaker 3: So this week's Whiskey of the Week is from their
- 1:05:42Speaker 3: Cryptid series. And for you guys, what they do is
- 1:05:46Speaker 3: they get bottles of whiskey or whiskey barrels from all
- 1:05:48Speaker 3: over the nation from different distilleries. They take those barrels,
- 1:05:51Speaker 3: kind of figure out what exactly in those barrels tastes
- 1:05:54Speaker 3: good to them. Then they start blending them together to
- 1:05:56Speaker 3: create an entire different flavor. And that's where we get
- 1:05:59Speaker 3: these whiskeys. This is the Cryptid series. And this is
- 1:06:02Speaker 3: the Wendigo American Maple. The cursed spirit of the American wilderness, Jack.
- 1:06:09Speaker 3: I nailed it this time. Oh, really? Yeah. This is
- 1:06:12Speaker 3: a Holt and Capen blend of 7- and 8-year-old high
- 1:06:15Speaker 3: rye bourbons, 57% ABV or 114 proof, cask strength, finished
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: in American maple staves. And it's all maple for me, man.
- 1:06:27Speaker 3: I feel like I need pancakes with this whiskey.
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:06:30Speaker 3: It says... The syrup comes from the sap of the maple. Look,
- 1:06:33Speaker 3: I just passed this under my nose as I'm reading this,
- 1:06:36Speaker 3: and the waft of it smells like syrup. It's a
- 1:06:38Speaker 3: pretty strong bouquet of maple. Yeah, you can get that
- 1:06:42Speaker 3: maple immediately.
- 1:06:44Speaker 6: And also, if I may say, there was a heavy
- 1:06:46Speaker 6: maple taste on the back end.
- 1:06:47Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:06:48Speaker 3: All right, nice. You drink it there? Jimmy, you've got
- 1:06:53Speaker 3: to give him credit. That joke deserved more. I'm sorry.
- 1:06:57Speaker 3: It took a delay. I will tip your server.
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: I mean, Jack has been practicing. He's been practicing today.
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: He really wants to get the notes.
- 1:07:06Speaker 3: This was a fan favorite with their whiskey club. It's
- 1:07:09Speaker 3: an absolute dream of a dram, is what they say.
- 1:07:12Speaker 3: Fans of their Tampa Cigar Week whiskey as well. By
- 1:07:14Speaker 3: the way, anything a little sweet goes well with With
- 1:07:18Speaker 3: a cigar. And this does have a little bit of sweet.
- 1:07:20Speaker 3: This is mine. It does. I'll take one little nip
- 1:07:22Speaker 3: here real quick. Have you had it, Ross? Oh, yeah.
- 1:07:24Speaker 3: I've polished off mine. I think I grabbed my first
- 1:07:28Speaker 3: sip at $ 2.
- 1:07:28Speaker 6: 58. Texter is asking where Forward Slash is. It is
- 1:07:32Speaker 6: in Winter Park. Near Holton Capon right there in that crossroads.
- 1:07:38Speaker 3: Yeah, that's what I told you. Right by Rollins. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:07:40Speaker 3: The Holton Capon. Those are the crossroads right there. Yeah,
- 1:07:44Speaker 3: super maple-y, a little sweet up front, but not like
- 1:07:48Speaker 3: syrupy sweet. Like you were saying, maple a lot. I
- 1:07:50Speaker 3: don't want people to think they're just basically getting whiskey-flavored syrup.
- 1:07:53Speaker 3: That's not it at all. It's just strong, too, guys.
- 1:07:57Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:07:58Speaker 3: Well, I've always been kind of impressed that I can
- 1:08:01Speaker 3: drink their spirits straight because they're not 80 proof, usually.
- 1:08:06Speaker 3: At least I don't know if this one is. This
- 1:08:09Speaker 3: one is 114.7 proof. I don't drink 114 proof any
- 1:08:14Speaker 3: other spirit other than forward slash because they get away
- 1:08:17Speaker 3: with it. I don't know what sorcery they do to
- 1:08:19Speaker 3: be making over 50% alcohol liquor and it feels and
- 1:08:24Speaker 3: tastes as soft as an 80 proof. Believe the hype, man. Orlando,
- 1:08:28Speaker 3: we're lucky. I tell you what, this is one of
- 1:08:30Speaker 3: the best smelling whiskeys I've ever tried. This is a treat.
- 1:08:33Speaker 3: You could just put a dish of this open in
- 1:08:35Speaker 3: your house. It would be delicious. It would smell amazing. Hey, Deb,
- 1:08:39Speaker 3: would you grab the bottle and put it on camera?
- 1:08:41Speaker 6: Because the labels on the Cryptid series are their best.
- 1:08:45Speaker 3: You got it.
- 1:08:46Speaker 6: It very much fits with their whole celebration of October,
- 1:08:51Speaker 6: and they celebrate it at, you know, they call it
- 1:08:55Speaker 6: Forward Slasher Month.
- 1:08:56Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:08:57Speaker 6: And for the whole month, they celebrate with their Y.
- 1:09:00Speaker 6: uh they'll have their halloween party as well that ross will.
- 1:09:04Speaker 3: Be at on halloween they're gonna have a bunch of
- 1:09:07Speaker 3: contests a lot of prizes a lot of whiskey gonna
- 1:09:12Speaker 3: be a blast that's hot up front Like you get that,
- 1:09:15Speaker 3: that's that, you know, cause there's big alcohol in that.
- 1:09:18Speaker 3: So you get that right up front. I mean, it
- 1:09:20Speaker 3: gets into your sinuses pretty quick, dissipates fast. And then
- 1:09:23Speaker 3: Jack's right on the back end of that, right on
- 1:09:25Speaker 3: your palate. You get that beautiful maple flavor because here's
- 1:09:28Speaker 3: the thing. You don't get it up front. You get
- 1:09:29Speaker 3: it in your nose, but you don't get it on
- 1:09:31Speaker 3: your palate until later down the road. Delicious. That's so good.
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:09:35Speaker 3: Actually leaves a little bit of a sweetness on your
- 1:09:38Speaker 3: palate as well. But in the back of your tongue,
- 1:09:39Speaker 3: super good. If you've never been able to, I would
- 1:09:43Speaker 3: give this to any listener right now. Here's a challenge.
- 1:09:46Speaker 3: If you've never been able to enjoy a spirit neat,
- 1:09:50Speaker 3: let forward slash be your introduction to sipping liquor neat
- 1:09:56Speaker 3: because it is so drinkable. It's so easy. You're going
- 1:10:00Speaker 3: to pick up on a range of flavors that only
- 1:10:03Speaker 3: blended whiskey can give you.
- 1:10:04Speaker 16: I know.
- 1:10:06Speaker 3: Once a week, I always come out here and I'm
- 1:10:08Speaker 3: way too over the top in love with this company,
- 1:10:10Speaker 3: but It's all true. These are true feelings. So good.
- 1:10:15Speaker 3: That's delicious. Got some hay in there, a little bit
- 1:10:18Speaker 3: of apple as well. I agree with that. Yeah, man,
- 1:10:20Speaker 3: that's great. Thanks, Dad. Very nice. Put the bottle up again. Yeah,
- 1:10:27Speaker 3: pretty cool. Yeah, look at that bottle right there. That's killer.
- 1:10:30Speaker 3: It's got the Wendigo on it.
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: Yeah, man.
- 1:10:32Speaker 3: Dude's got a loincloth, too. Check it. No, that's a Wendigo. Okay,
- 1:10:36Speaker 3: my bad.
- 1:10:38Speaker 4: Wow.
- 1:10:39Speaker 3: Very good stuff. It's the cryptid Wendigo. Wendigo, Wendigo, Wendigo.
- 1:10:46Speaker 3: And it's got a deer head on a skeleton. That's
- 1:10:49Speaker 3: kind of crazy. Yeah, man, this is great.
- 1:10:51Speaker 6: Website is drink forward slash dot com. You find them
- 1:10:55Speaker 6: on Instagram at drink forward slash.
- 1:10:57Speaker 3: Yeah. And they have bottles of this. Sometimes we'll get
- 1:10:59Speaker 3: some we'll get the taste and it'll they'll have none
- 1:11:02Speaker 3: left because they would have made it. I don't know
- 1:11:03Speaker 3: how many bottles they have left, but somebody just texted
- 1:11:05Speaker 3: and said they got one. of one of the ones
- 1:11:07Speaker 3: we offered earlier this year as a gift. And that's
- 1:11:10Speaker 3: a really cool thing to do, right? Because these bottles
- 1:11:12Speaker 3: are kind of affordable, I think mostly in the $ 70
- 1:11:14Speaker 3: to $ 80 range. Well, they're affordable now because I fully
- 1:11:18Speaker 3: predict that Forward Slash is going to catch mainstream in
- 1:11:22Speaker 3: the next five years.
- 1:11:24Speaker 4: So.
- 1:11:24Speaker 3: But enjoy it now. I really, really believe in those
- 1:11:27Speaker 3: two guys. Are you part of the IPO? Are you
- 1:11:30Speaker 3: buying stock? No, I just think Tim and Michael have
- 1:11:32Speaker 3: the number one ingredient when it comes to this sort
- 1:11:35Speaker 3: of work, which is passion and love.
- 1:11:37Speaker 8: Them, right?
- 1:11:38Speaker 3: Exactly, 100%. I believe in them just as much as
- 1:11:40Speaker 3: I do their products. I will tell you guys, during
- 1:11:42Speaker 3: the break, do yourself a favor. Pour a tiny bit
- 1:11:44Speaker 3: of that in the glass and put a drop of
- 1:11:46Speaker 3: water in there and taste it.
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:11:47Speaker 3: A little bit, a tiny bit of water in there
- 1:11:48Speaker 3: and taste that. Let it dance a little bit. Dude,
- 1:11:50Speaker 3: I'm telling you, it takes that. It takes that sting
- 1:11:52Speaker 3: of the alcohol level off of the very front, but
- 1:11:54Speaker 3: you still get all the flavor. You'll love that. Done.
- 1:11:57Speaker 3: Drink forward slash dot com. Learn more about their Halloween stuff.
- 1:12:00Speaker 3: Like Ross said, he's going to be hosting and judging
- 1:12:03Speaker 3: their Halloween party for their big Halloween costume contest.
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: Yep.
- 1:12:07Speaker 3: It's all happening there. And it's the forward slasher time
- 1:12:10Speaker 3: of year. So get over there. It's forward slash drink
- 1:12:11Speaker 3: forward slash dot com. Back in a sec with more
- 1:12:13Speaker 3: of the Jim Colbert show and a fresh keyword.
- 1:12:16Speaker 6: On our website, bank, B-A-N-K, bank.
- 1:12:20Speaker 3: Enter it now on our website, realradio.fm. Good luck.
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: Obviously, this is why YouTube was created. Obviously, at Jim
- 1:12:31Speaker 2: Colbert Show on YouTube.
- 1:12:36Speaker 11: Jimmy, as much as it pains me to agree with you,
- 1:12:39Speaker 11: I'm going to agree with you. Coffee out the window, innocuous,
- 1:12:42Speaker 11: no big deal. On a similar note, you mentioned getting
- 1:12:45Speaker 11: yelled at for throwing a banana peel out a car window.
- 1:12:47Speaker 11: I do that all the time. Even Otter, I one
- 1:12:52Speaker 11: time threw a banana peel off deep into the woods
- 1:12:55Speaker 11: on a hike and got just annihilated by some jerk
- 1:12:58Speaker 11: who saw me in the distance and went on to
- 1:13:01Speaker 11: tell me that, you know, we don't have bananas growing
- 1:13:03Speaker 11: here in Tennessee, so you can't just throw that out.
- 1:13:08Speaker 3: What's up, guys and gal, Chris and Raleigh?
- 1:13:10Speaker 5: I just had my wisdom teeth, four of them, taken
- 1:13:12Speaker 5: out last Friday morning at 7.30 a.m. By 9 p.m.,
- 1:13:16Speaker 5: I was 100% fine. My wife had taken off work
- 1:13:20Speaker 5: on the weekend. She's a real estate agent to take
- 1:13:22Speaker 5: care of me, and I had zero issues. She was
- 1:13:24Speaker 5: so irritated. She struggled for a.
- 1:13:27Speaker 3: Week when she had her stuff. Yeah, you don't want
- 1:13:28Speaker 3: that dry socket, though. It ain't that bad for some people,
- 1:13:31Speaker 3: at least.
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: Peace.
- 1:13:33Speaker 3: Peace.
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: You'd think you'd be happier.
- 1:13:36Speaker 3: Ross, floss. Take it from the teabag. You need to floss.
- 1:13:43Speaker 8: I never did, and the last time I went to
- 1:13:45Speaker 8: the dentist, I had about 20 grand worth of work
- 1:13:50Speaker 8: done in my head.
- 1:13:51Speaker 3: I've got a used car in my mouth. Floss is important.
- 1:13:57Speaker 3: I know that now. If there are ever words to
- 1:14:01Speaker 3: live by, I think take it from teabag. That was
- 1:14:05Speaker 3: teabag 316 for me. Take it from teabag. Teabag 316
- 1:14:09Speaker 3: is one word. Floss. Bank is your 5 o'clock keyword.
- 1:14:14Speaker 3: That's B-A-N-K. Go to realradio.fm. Send that away for your
- 1:14:17Speaker 3: chance at $ 1, 000. News Junkie had back-to-back winners today. Let's
- 1:14:20Speaker 3: get one for the Jim Colbert Show. Go get it,
- 1:14:23Speaker 3: bank guys. Remember, if you're playing the game, keep your
- 1:14:25Speaker 3: phone on. Turn it up. And keep it near you,
- 1:14:28Speaker 3: the hour that you're playing. You've got to answer that
- 1:14:29Speaker 3: damn thing, too. Regardless of what is on the screen,
- 1:14:33Speaker 3: you've got to answer it for sure. That's how they
- 1:14:34Speaker 3: tell you you've won.
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: You only have to wait an hour.
- 1:14:36Speaker 3: That's right. I'm Jim. There's Deb. Hello. And Ross. Doyle rules. Yeah,
- 1:14:40Speaker 3: I did not get to this during Embers Only, but
- 1:14:42Speaker 3: I want to remind you guys that Corona Cigar has
- 1:14:45Speaker 3: a really cool event happening October 20th at the Lake
- 1:14:47Speaker 3: Mary event. It is this pairing dinner at the Hangry Bison.
- 1:14:52Speaker 3: It's like a four-course dinner, and when you leave, you
- 1:14:54Speaker 3: get a bottle of Lagavulin scotch and some cigars as well.
- 1:14:58Speaker 3: $ 250 per guest. Go check it out at coronacigar.com. Thanks, guys.
- 1:15:02Speaker 3: We appreciate that very, very much. You guys want the
- 1:15:07Speaker 3: name of the floss? Yes.
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:15:09Speaker 3: Fancy floss. Yeah, and by the way, this floss is apparently,
- 1:15:12Speaker 3: when you look at it, it's supposed to get about 50%
- 1:15:14Speaker 3: more plaque off of your teeth than the little violin
- 1:15:18Speaker 3: things or whatever they're called, the bow and arrows. It's
- 1:15:20Speaker 3: called Dr. Tongue's T-U-N-G.
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: Someone had texted us about that.
- 1:15:25Speaker 3: Yeah, Dr. Tongue's Mint Floss. It comes in a little
- 1:15:29Speaker 3: paper container, a little square paper container, and I think
- 1:15:34Speaker 3: it's two packs of it's like 14 bucks. Dr. Tongues,
- 1:15:37Speaker 3: is that with a Z? No, no, no, yeah, T-U-N-G
- 1:15:40Speaker 3: apostrophe S, Dr. Tongues.
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: Just found it at... Yeah, there it is right there, Jack, though. Yeah,
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: Target for like $ 6. 59. Yeah, you'll be.
- 1:15:46Speaker 3: Able to get it somewhere else. I don't know. We
- 1:15:48Speaker 3: ordered it online. My wife just said it was a
- 1:15:49Speaker 3: little bit more than normal floss. Yeah, it is.
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: But, I mean, if it gets 50% more, then.
- 1:15:54Speaker 3: And I can tell you it does. It's the way
- 1:15:56Speaker 3: the strands kind of spreads out between your teeth.
- 1:15:59Speaker 4: Ah.
- 1:15:59Speaker 3: So when you pull it down there and when you
- 1:16:01Speaker 3: pull it up, the strand kind of spreads out. So
- 1:16:03Speaker 3: you're getting a lot more coverage than that one little
- 1:16:05Speaker 3: piece that just stays together. And you can look at
- 1:16:07Speaker 3: the floss and see it's doing work.
- 1:16:08Speaker 9: All right.
- 1:16:09Speaker 7: Well.
- 1:16:09Speaker 3: There you go. I was just telling Jack is that
- 1:16:11Speaker 3: like a little confession is that. I think I've been
- 1:16:14Speaker 3: brushing my teeth and missing a spot for the majority
- 1:16:17Speaker 3: of my life, and I just found this one spot
- 1:16:21Speaker 3: to brush my teeth. Oh, really? Yeah, I've never hit there. Yeah,
- 1:16:24Speaker 3: you have a predominant. Actually, my dentist came at me
- 1:16:26Speaker 3: one time and he said, you realize your teeth had
- 1:16:28Speaker 3: a backside, right? It was my front teeth, back seat,
- 1:16:32Speaker 3: front teeth. Not good. Well, it's been all right, but
- 1:16:38Speaker 3: then when I went to the dentist, they went, whoa,
- 1:16:40Speaker 3: don't forget this spot. Right, right, right. And now when
- 1:16:43Speaker 3: I brush it, it is euphoric. Let me ask you,
- 1:16:46Speaker 3: what kind of brush do you use? I got an Oral-B.
- 1:16:50Speaker 3: It's black, and it changes colors. It's electric. It's electric.
- 1:16:54Speaker 3: It is electric. You, Jack? No, I have a manual. Oh,
- 1:16:57Speaker 3: you have a manual brush.
- 1:16:58Speaker 6: Yeah, I've been through the electric thing, and then I
- 1:17:01Speaker 6: started doing the manual, and with flossing and brushing with that.
- 1:17:04Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:17:05Speaker 3: I had zero issues.
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: I just.
- 1:17:08Speaker 15: Right.
- 1:17:08Speaker 3: How about you?
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: Uh, manual.
- 1:17:11Speaker 3: So the funny thing is, is I actually go back
- 1:17:12Speaker 3: and forth. I have a Sonicare that I use all
- 1:17:15Speaker 3: the time, but sometimes I get tired of holding the
- 1:17:17Speaker 3: damn thing. And sometimes I don't feel like it's getting
- 1:17:19Speaker 3: in there. So I will get a manual brush and
- 1:17:21Speaker 3: I'll use that till it wears out. And I'll go
- 1:17:22Speaker 3: back to my Sonicare right now. I'm in the Sonicare game.
- 1:17:25Speaker 3: Because you're supposed to brush for two minutes, right? Yeah,
- 1:17:27Speaker 3: the Sonicare has a timer. And it's 30 seconds each side,
- 1:17:29Speaker 3: and the Sonicare has the timer. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:17:31Speaker 6: And so I was, like, wanting to cheat, and that's
- 1:17:34Speaker 6: why I was like, you know, if I just went back.
- 1:17:36Speaker 3: To a brush, I can pretend it's two minutes. Right, right, right, right, right.
- 1:17:40Speaker 3: I don't know if that works like that. We had
- 1:17:43Speaker 3: a nice little gift today left for us for another
- 1:17:47Speaker 3: show member. Legal? A loco? A loco, yeah, man. So
- 1:17:52Speaker 3: if you remember, we were talking about Oreos the other day, right?
- 1:17:55Speaker 3: And how he is the Oreo plug because he sat
- 1:17:57Speaker 3: in Wednesday when Jack was out sick slash Yankee game.
- 1:18:02Speaker 3: I wish. And we were talking about like when we
- 1:18:04Speaker 3: got that apple pie delivery. What was it? Chicken and
- 1:18:06Speaker 3: waffles that day, right? We were like, man, these are great.
- 1:18:08Speaker 3: So remember which one he brought up, guys, on Wednesday?
- 1:18:11Speaker 3: Do you remember? I do. Ross, do you remember? No. Yeah,
- 1:18:14Speaker 3: the banana pudding.
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: No, say it right.
- 1:18:18Speaker 3: The banana pudding.
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: There you go.
- 1:18:19Speaker 3: Yeah, the banana pudding Oreo he left for us. Did
- 1:18:23Speaker 3: everybody have one? No. Did you not have one yet?
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: A banana pudding Oreo?
- 1:18:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:18:28Speaker 3: Have you had one, Ross? Yes. Yeah. Was I not
- 1:18:30Speaker 3: supposed to? No, you're fine. Because no one told me
- 1:18:32Speaker 3: I should have one. I just grabbed one. Will you
- 1:18:34Speaker 3: eat one? Sure.
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: Now, are they nasty and that's why you want me
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: to eat one?
- 1:18:40Speaker 3: If you like banana pudding. Eat one. Tell me what
- 1:18:42Speaker 3: you think. And I'll tell you if I think it's nasty.
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:18:45Speaker 3: Because the monsters did this today, right?
- 1:18:47Speaker 16: They did. Yeah.
- 1:18:48Speaker 3: The monsters did this because they usually would do the
- 1:18:50Speaker 3: beer of the week they didn't have a beer of
- 1:18:51Speaker 3: the week this week yeah so they did oreo of
- 1:18:53Speaker 3: the week correct so they did and and they taste
- 1:18:55Speaker 3: tested they all gave their their scores right so i'm
- 1:18:59Speaker 3: jack you know what the scores are right all right
- 1:19:02Speaker 3: what would you give that on a scale of one
- 1:19:04Speaker 3: to ten Seven. Dude, I'm telling you, that's a strong
- 1:19:07Speaker 3: seven or eight. Not quite the apple pie experience for me,
- 1:19:11Speaker 3: but either way, an unbelievably good cookie because I don't
- 1:19:15Speaker 3: know how they do it, but that filling nails banana pudding.
- 1:19:19Speaker 3: Do you guys agree? That was a four for me.
- 1:19:22Speaker 16: What?
- 1:19:22Speaker 3: That's a four when it comes to Oreos. And probably
- 1:19:26Speaker 3: like a two when it comes to cookies in general.
- 1:19:28Speaker 3: It's a four-io? It's a four-io. You know, here's the deal.
- 1:19:31Speaker 6: So I heard the Monsters today, and by the way, Russ... Angel,
- 1:19:35Speaker 6: and C-Lane all gave it pretty high marks. Ryan and
- 1:19:39Speaker 6: Savannah trashed it.
- 1:19:40Speaker 3: Well, Ryan's a contrarian anyway. What did he say? I
- 1:19:42Speaker 3: expected that from him. Okay, so they give it like sixes, sevens,
- 1:19:46Speaker 3: and then Ryan gave it like a two?
- 1:19:48Speaker 16: A one.
- 1:19:48Speaker 3: A one?
- 1:19:49Speaker 16: Yes.
- 1:19:50Speaker 3: He thinks that's a one? Well, what does he think
- 1:19:53Speaker 3: tastes good then? That's my guy.
- 1:19:54Speaker 6: And that's it because he's like the artificial banana flavor.
- 1:20:00Speaker 3: But you know it's artificial. The whole idea is how
- 1:20:02Speaker 3: close they got to actual banana pudding without putting banana
- 1:20:05Speaker 3: pudding in there. I think that's pretty accurate. Hearing that
- 1:20:07Speaker 3: and hearing Ryan, who just makes everyone mad all the time.
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:20:11Speaker 3: I thought I was going to like it a lot
- 1:20:15Speaker 3: more than I did. Every one of these I want
- 1:20:17Speaker 3: to bag on. Every one of them. Because it's such
- 1:20:19Speaker 3: a novelty. They did such a good job with the
- 1:20:21Speaker 3: OG product. And every one of them. The chicken and
- 1:20:24Speaker 3: waffles was the weakest of the bunch. But I'm telling you,
- 1:20:27Speaker 3: the apple pie and banana pudding cookie are delicious. I
- 1:20:30Speaker 3: don't care what anybody says. I thought this was good.
- 1:20:32Speaker 3: Five or six, I'd give this one. You'd give a
- 1:20:34Speaker 3: five or six? I was expecting better. Let me ask
- 1:20:37Speaker 3: you a question then. Are you a banana pudding fan? Yeah,
- 1:20:40Speaker 3: like remember Steve from Corky's Barbecue? Yeah, I used to
- 1:20:44Speaker 3: love it. That was good banana pudding. That was very good.
- 1:20:47Speaker 3: Very good banana pudding?
- 1:20:48Speaker 16: Yeah.
- 1:20:49Speaker 6: So that's what I was thinking about when they were
- 1:20:50Speaker 6: talking about it today. When I got here, I tried it.
- 1:20:53Speaker 6: I'm like, oh, it's a cookie.
- 1:20:56Speaker 3: Why do you think it falls short? I have to ask.
- 1:20:58Speaker 3: I'm absolutely fascinated by this. I mean, I don't know.
- 1:21:01Speaker 3: Maybe I didn't get hit with a heavy banana. I
- 1:21:05Speaker 3: don't know. Or the pudding. How many did you eat, Deb?
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: You didn't get hit with a heavy banana? Yeah. Are
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: you complaining? Where's my music?
- 1:21:14Speaker 3: There's a noodle about that.
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: Normally don't complain when you get hit with a big banana.
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: How many did you have?
- 1:21:20Speaker 3: I just had two. Did you got it? At the
- 1:21:23Speaker 3: same time. I just had the one.
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: Did you already eat the other half of my sandwich?
- 1:21:32Speaker 3: Yeah, I did.
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: Okay, good. So you ate the other half of my sandwich?
- 1:21:35Speaker 3: I put an Oreo on either side of it. Okay, good. Yeah,
- 1:21:38Speaker 3: for me, it was just like a synthetic banana. It
- 1:21:41Speaker 3: kind of tastes like a runt. Yeah. I'm flabbergasted.
- 1:21:47Speaker 6: Matter of fact, I think that's exactly what C-Lane said.
- 1:21:50Speaker 6: It reminded him of a banana runt.
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:21:53Speaker 3: A banana runt? I don't even know what that is.
- 1:21:55Speaker 3: Like a small banana? What's a banana runt? What are
- 1:21:57Speaker 3: you talking about? What do you mean you don't know
- 1:21:59Speaker 3: about runts? I don't know what a runt is. It's
- 1:22:01Speaker 3: the smallest one in the bunch. Everyone knows what a
- 1:22:03Speaker 3: runt is. Yeah, a runt is the smallest one. So
- 1:22:06Speaker 3: you're telling me a small banana tastes different than a
- 1:22:08Speaker 3: big banana? No, it's a runt. No, it's a runt. Candy,
- 1:22:12Speaker 3: a candy runt. I've never heard of that. And a
- 1:22:14Speaker 3: candy runt sounds like a web history that I want
- 1:22:18Speaker 3: to clear. Oh, my God. The worst case of the runt.
- 1:22:24Speaker 3: I stepped on a runt. They were hard candies that
- 1:22:27Speaker 3: were just like pressed sugar, and they looked like apple
- 1:22:30Speaker 3: or banana. Never heard of it. But anyway, thanks, Loco.
- 1:22:34Speaker 3: Appreciate it. I'm taking the rest of those home, and
- 1:22:36Speaker 3: you guys can kiss my ass. They're delicious. Wow. Great job, Oreo.
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: By the way, there's only two for you to go home.
- 1:22:42Speaker 3: You can't stop eating them.
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: I just had two, you D-bag. By the way, your
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: last half a sandwich ever.
- 1:22:51Speaker 3: Oh. Don't say that. You take that back.
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: Or cookie.
- 1:22:54Speaker 3: Or chips. You take it back.
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: No, I'm not.
- 1:22:57Speaker 6: Hey, Jim, I need your help because I'm going to
- 1:22:59Speaker 6: be at the Surf Fest. It's the NKF Surf Fest.
- 1:23:02Speaker 6: It's tomorrow and Sunday. Give me a ride, dude. You
- 1:23:04Speaker 6: don't have to give me a ride, but I need
- 1:23:06Speaker 6: an idea on how to give away a surfboard.
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: Yeah, that's pretty cool.
- 1:23:09Speaker 3: I have a surfboard.
- 1:23:10Speaker 6: We have some cool prizes. I'm going to be on
- 1:23:12Speaker 6: the beach from like 11 until 2 or so. And
- 1:23:15Speaker 6: at 2 o'clock, we're giving away a surfboard. It's going
- 1:23:17Speaker 6: to be at the Westgate Pier on Cocoa Beach. Real
- 1:23:20Speaker 6: radio tent set up.
- 1:23:21Speaker 3: I'll be there. Paramore will be there. We'll be hanging out. Wow.
- 1:23:26Speaker 3: How would you give away a $ 1, 200 surfboard? And this
- 1:23:30Speaker 3: is the one they make on Spotlight. This guy shapes
- 1:23:32Speaker 3: this thing like there or something, right?
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: That's a different one.
- 1:23:34Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a different one. Yeah, yeah, yeah. How about
- 1:23:37Speaker 3: you find the best surfer with the worst board? How
- 1:23:43Speaker 3: about this? How about you do a contest and you
- 1:23:45Speaker 3: have to sound like Spicoli from Fast Times when they
- 1:23:49Speaker 3: ask him about how the surf was and he goes
- 1:23:50Speaker 3: into the surf language and he's like, oh, no, dude,
- 1:23:53Speaker 3: I was tubed out completely tubular.
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. It had to be a surf language contest.
- 1:23:57Speaker 3: Have them do like a surf lingo contest where they
- 1:24:00Speaker 3: have to come up with a scenario where they've surfed
- 1:24:02Speaker 3: and they have to use all the surf lingo they
- 1:24:04Speaker 3: can use.
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: Give me those Oreos.
- 1:24:06Speaker 3: No, you're not getting them, dude. There's two left. Anyway,
- 1:24:10Speaker 3: I think that's what I'd do. I think I like
- 1:24:11Speaker 3: that idea. I think you should grab that same idea,
- 1:24:14Speaker 3: but flip it. Have a contest for them not to
- 1:24:17Speaker 3: sound like Spicoli. You're at a surf festival. That's going
- 1:24:21Speaker 3: to be the real challenge. I don't know, buddy. Surf
- 1:24:24Speaker 3: is like three feet tall. I measured it with my
- 1:24:27Speaker 3: slide rule.
- 1:24:28Speaker 6: The National Kidney Foundation's 41st Annual Rich Salick Surf Fest
- 1:24:33Speaker 6: is this weekend. Taco Bob will be there tomorrow. I'll
- 1:24:36Speaker 6: be there on Sunday. Come hang out. We'll have a
- 1:24:39Speaker 6: bunch of stuff to give away, including a surfboard. But
- 1:24:42Speaker 6: you have competitive surfers in the pro and amateur divisions,
- 1:24:45Speaker 6: live entertainment, fun for the entire family. They have the
- 1:24:48Speaker 6: Taste of Brevard on Sunday night. All the details and
- 1:24:51Speaker 6: the schedule for everything happening from tonight through Sunday night.
- 1:24:56Speaker 6: is online at nkfsurf.com.

- 1:25:33Speaker 11: Co-host of Orlando's number one defunct podcast, Funny to Informing.
- 1:25:38Speaker 11: Happy birthday, John Hennon.
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: Love you, boy. Happy birthday.
- 1:25:46Speaker 10: Hey, Ohana.
- 1:25:46Speaker 3: Hey, Brother Jack. I got a great idea.
- 1:25:48Speaker 10: Why don't you take everybody who's eligible for the free
- 1:25:51Speaker 10: surfboard giveaway and Have them all line up with the current.
- 1:25:54Speaker 3: Board they're riding.
- 1:25:55Speaker 10: Whoever has the board that's in the roughest shape, maybe
- 1:25:59Speaker 10: that would be the one you would bless them with
- 1:26:00Speaker 10: a new board with. Anyway, and by the way, Phil's
- 1:26:06Speaker 10: last name is pronounced Salick. I mean, I know Phil.
- 1:26:09Speaker 10: I didn't know Rich, but Just saying.
- 1:26:13Speaker 3: Love you.
- 1:26:13Speaker 8: Aloha.
- 1:26:14Speaker 6: Yeah, I know Phil, too, and that's why I was
- 1:26:16Speaker 6: surprised after calling him Selig for so many years.
- 1:26:19Speaker 3: I was told last year it was definitely Sally.
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: Dressed us from the land of Philatowski or Toski. Thanks, brother.
- 1:26:26Speaker 3: All right, welcome back.
- 1:26:27Speaker 14: I'm Jim.
- 1:26:27Speaker 3: There's Deb. Jack. Yep. And Ross. Five o'clock keyword is bank.
- 1:26:32Speaker 3: That's B-A-N-K. You know what to do. Realradio.fm. Send it
- 1:26:35Speaker 3: off for your chance at a thousand bucks. Remember, you
- 1:26:37Speaker 3: can use the iHeartRadio app to enter as well. Two
- 1:26:40Speaker 3: winners today on The New Junkie. Let's get a Jim
- 1:26:42Speaker 3: Colbert Show winner before we get out of here for
- 1:26:43Speaker 3: week one of the contesting. A couple of things. Let
- 1:26:49Speaker 3: me see a second ago before we came back on. No,
- 1:26:53Speaker 3: that's dead. Okay, here we go. So you guys know
- 1:26:57Speaker 3: I love learning about new stuff, right?
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 1:27:00Speaker 3: And I love... It's rare that you find something you've
- 1:27:06Speaker 3: never heard of ever. When you mentioned the banana thing
- 1:27:09Speaker 3: a minute ago, I'd never heard of that candy before
- 1:27:11Speaker 3: in my life. You kept saying, I didn't even know
- 1:27:13Speaker 3: what you were talking about. I didn't know what a
- 1:27:14Speaker 3: runt was. I don't know any of that. I didn't
- 1:27:16Speaker 3: know it. So I was reading Newsweek this morning, and
- 1:27:20Speaker 3: I saw a story on something I've never heard about before.
- 1:27:25Speaker 3: And I'm going to go around the room, and I'm
- 1:27:27Speaker 3: going to say I'll do Deb last because I think
- 1:27:29Speaker 3: of all people that would probably know what this is,
- 1:27:32Speaker 3: for some reason, because Deb knows a bunch of this
- 1:27:34Speaker 3: kind of stuff, I think Deb will know. Okay, Ross,
- 1:27:37Speaker 3: with you, I'm going to start first. Is it math?
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: No, no, no. I hope not.
- 1:27:44Speaker 3: Oh, man, no. What does the term widow's fire mean?
- 1:27:48Speaker 3: Widow's fire? Widow's fire. What does that mean, widow's fire?
- 1:27:53Speaker 3: I'm going to say that a widow's fire is– A
- 1:27:58Speaker 3: widow's response to becoming a widow. Okay, so a widow's
- 1:28:02Speaker 3: response to becoming a widow. Yeah, so maybe they will,
- 1:28:07Speaker 3: I don't want to say burn things to the ground,
- 1:28:10Speaker 3: but maybe move on. Maybe that's how they move on.
- 1:28:14Speaker 10: Gotcha.
- 1:28:14Speaker 3: All right, Jack, widow's fire. No, it's just a really
- 1:28:18Speaker 3: long cigarette lighter. Okay, good. That's actually a great guess
- 1:28:21Speaker 3: as well. Deb, widow's fire.
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: I actually have no idea.
- 1:28:24Speaker 3: Never heard of it.
- 1:28:24Speaker 8: Nope.
- 1:28:26Speaker 3: So I learned of a phenomenon today that I've never
- 1:28:28Speaker 3: heard of called Widow's Fire.
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: Now, is it like because I know I take a guess. Well,
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: I know like in St. Augustine.
- 1:28:35Speaker 14: Right.
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: When you go on their ghost tour and they'll take
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: you to some of the buildings that are right across
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: the street.
- 1:28:40Speaker 3: Like the orb kind of thing.
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: Well, they'll talk about the widows who would walk along
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: the top of their homes with a lantern trying to
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: see if their men have returned from sea.
- 1:28:52Speaker 3: So oddly enough, I actually, that's exactly what I thought
- 1:28:56Speaker 3: it was. I thought it was a spiritual thing because
- 1:28:59Speaker 3: news agencies, regardless of what they do or how serious
- 1:29:02Speaker 3: they are, when the holidays come around, they will start
- 1:29:04Speaker 3: running stories that have a little spooky thing to them
- 1:29:07Speaker 3: or something that's like Halloween related or spiritually related or whatever.
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 1:29:12Speaker 8: Right?
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: There's a group I've always wanted to hear from.
- 1:29:14Speaker 3: Which is?
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: Healthcare workers.
- 1:29:17Speaker 3: Oh, on what?
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: Spooky stuff.
- 1:29:19Speaker 3: Oh, really? No, I don't have that. I promise you
- 1:29:22Speaker 3: one thing. At least my experience with health care workers,
- 1:29:26Speaker 3: they do not. They don't like ghosts. They don't believe
- 1:29:30Speaker 3: in ghosts. At least that's been my experience with nurses
- 1:29:33Speaker 3: and stuff. But still could have seen some cool stuff. Yeah, well,
- 1:29:36Speaker 3: their cool stuff is like incredibly sad. Yeah, yeah. It said,
- 1:29:40Speaker 3: do not resuscitate, and I try. Oh, no, don't do that.
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: God.
- 1:29:44Speaker 3: Widow's Fire is none of that. Widow's Fire is, and
- 1:29:47Speaker 3: I'll just kind of read a little bit of the
- 1:29:48Speaker 3: story here real quick. My husband Al and I were
- 1:29:50Speaker 3: bedazzled with each other. That was the best way that
- 1:29:53Speaker 3: I know to describe us. They loved each other every
- 1:29:56Speaker 3: single minute of the day. Completely, absolutely into each other
- 1:30:01Speaker 3: every minute of the day. And Al dies.
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: Oh.
- 1:30:06Speaker 3: And the widow's fire phenomenon is this. I don't know
- 1:30:11Speaker 3: if it happens for men. I do not know if
- 1:30:13Speaker 3: that's the answer. But apparently women who have lost a
- 1:30:16Speaker 3: loved one, specifically maybe even a little bit older women,
- 1:30:20Speaker 3: but not even crazy. She is in her 70s, so
- 1:30:22Speaker 3: she's older for sure, experience this overwhelming horniness.
- 1:30:27Speaker 4: Yes.
- 1:30:28Speaker 3: This overwhelming need to make love and have physical contact.
- 1:30:33Speaker 3: And it's unexplainable. They do not know what causes it.
- 1:30:36Speaker 3: But there is a strange phenomenon that when a woman
- 1:30:39Speaker 3: loses a husband, it doesn't say anything about a man
- 1:30:42Speaker 3: losing his woman and it happening to men.
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: It does happen. It starts at age 11. And then
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: it may end around 80, 85.
- 1:30:52Speaker 3: But this is a really interesting thing. Like these older women,
- 1:30:55Speaker 3: after losing their husbands, and you would think well beyond their, like,
- 1:30:59Speaker 3: their age where they would be really into something like that.
- 1:31:01Speaker 3: Because I've heard as you get into your 60s and
- 1:31:03Speaker 3: 70s and stuff, your libido wanes to the point where
- 1:31:07Speaker 3: you and your partner are really kind of friends and
- 1:31:10Speaker 3: you do maybe do some stuff, but it's not like
- 1:31:12Speaker 3: it was when you were 35, 40, 50 years old even, right?
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: Apparently you haven't seen Meet the Poppers.
- 1:31:17Speaker 3: But it said, and she even said, she goes, for
- 1:31:21Speaker 3: the last eight or nine years of their marriage, they
- 1:31:23Speaker 3: couldn't have normal sexual relationships because he had prostate cancer.
- 1:31:27Speaker 3: So when he passed away, and this is the term
- 1:31:30Speaker 3: they use, she had this overwhelming desire to have sex.
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: I wonder if it's tied to the grief process. Because,
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: you know, I don't know if you remember, but like
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: after 9-11, for a lot of people, there was this
- 1:31:45Speaker 1: insatiable need to connect, to just feel alive.
- 1:31:49Speaker 4: Right, right, right.
- 1:31:49Speaker 3: I'm not going to lie. After polls, I hooked up
- 1:31:51Speaker 3: with an ex.
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: Well, because it's tragedy.
- 1:31:54Speaker 3: It literally was like everyone was crying. We were all crying.
- 1:31:58Speaker 2: Wow.
- 1:31:58Speaker 3: Really?
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: I think it has more to do. Well, in this case,
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: it's probably a combination, right? A lot of these women.
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: maybe because of health concerns, their own or their husband's,
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: probably specifically their husband's, either prostate or heart health, couldn't
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: have a normal sex life. So then you add in
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: the grief of losing him with the fact that you're
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: free now to meet your needs. Maybe that's what sparks
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: the flame.
- 1:32:23Speaker 3: Somebody just texted in, I'm a newish widow, 57 years old.
- 1:32:26Speaker 3: I know all caps exactly what my widow's fire is.
- 1:32:31Speaker 3: Husband died last year. The story says, something happened I
- 1:32:35Speaker 3: did not see coming. While I was mourning the man
- 1:32:37Speaker 3: I loved, my body seemed to wake up. I wanted
- 1:32:40Speaker 3: to be held. I wanted the warmth of a man
- 1:32:41Speaker 3: beside me. And to my complete surprise, I wanted sex badly.
- 1:32:46Speaker 3: I'm 80 years old. Hell yeah. 80 years old. I
- 1:32:49Speaker 3: could barely look at a photograph of her ex-husband without crying,
- 1:32:52Speaker 3: but yet I suddenly had this intense physical desire that
- 1:32:56Speaker 3: seemed completely at odds with her grief. She was still
- 1:33:00Speaker 3: mourning the death of her husband, and in that mourning, Like,
- 1:33:03Speaker 3: even after just one year, you would easily still be
- 1:33:05Speaker 3: mourning a spouse. Oh, yeah. She became overwhelmingly, like, desirable
- 1:33:10Speaker 3: for sexual contact. Never heard of that term. Never heard
- 1:33:15Speaker 3: of this phenomenon ever in my life.
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: Same here. And I've heard of runts.
- 1:33:19Speaker 3: It's not a long cigarette lighter. No, it's not. It's
- 1:33:22Speaker 3: like a grill. I mean, I'm not also, like, there's
- 1:33:26Speaker 3: one elephant in this topic of a room that I
- 1:33:30Speaker 3: feel like I'll say it. Like, sure, grief. But in
- 1:33:34Speaker 3: that example of, like, eight years of prostate, we haven't
- 1:33:37Speaker 3: had sex. And then that event happens where your partner leaves, like...
- 1:33:42Speaker 3: I completely understand. I've never thought about it, but it
- 1:33:46Speaker 3: checks out. By the way, it happens with people who–
- 1:33:48Speaker 3: by the way, she was only in her mid-50s. I
- 1:33:52Speaker 3: can't assume what their situation was, but in your mid-50s,
- 1:33:54Speaker 3: you're still completely able to have sex. Men still completely
- 1:33:57Speaker 3: can conform if they don't have any medical issues like
- 1:34:00Speaker 3: a prostate issue or something like that. No problem whatsoever.
- 1:34:03Speaker 3: I mean– completely normal sex life. You know, I'm in
- 1:34:05Speaker 3: my mid to late fifties. I'm sure Jack has a
- 1:34:08Speaker 3: completely normal, healthy sex life as well, as well as Deb.
- 1:34:10Speaker 3: You don't know me. You don't get into your mid
- 1:34:12Speaker 3: fifties and just quit thinking about sex. It doesn't happen
- 1:34:14Speaker 3: like that. I don't know. I'm not saying that it does.
- 1:34:16Speaker 3: I'm just saying that after, does it make me sound bad?
- 1:34:21Speaker 3: If like, if I, if I give my dog anything
- 1:34:26Speaker 3: other than dog food, He gets– it's like a hard drug.
- 1:34:30Speaker 3: Out of his mind, right? Yeah, like heroin, right? Yeah,
- 1:34:32Speaker 3: because they can't– Hopefully that metaphor isn't wildly offensive. I
- 1:34:36Speaker 3: kind of know what you're– I kind of know exactly
- 1:34:38Speaker 3: what you're saying.
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: Well, we got someone else who texted us at 77031.
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: I went through that when my husband died. No idea why.
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: Connection thing is all I can think of why.
- 1:34:47Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah. And it is kind of an interesting phenomenon.
- 1:34:50Speaker 3: If you guys want to read about this, it's in
- 1:34:51Speaker 3: Newsweek or Newsweek.com today. Uh, and it's called, uh, after
- 1:34:56Speaker 3: my husband died, I was confused about my sex drive.
- 1:34:58Speaker 3: Then I discovered widow's fire. So it's, it's actually a
- 1:35:01Speaker 3: really interesting story. And it talks about like exactly what
- 1:35:04Speaker 3: this woman went through at 80 years old, how she
- 1:35:06Speaker 3: lost her husband. That was her life partner, her love,
- 1:35:08Speaker 3: her star, everything about him. But when he passed just
- 1:35:12Speaker 3: a year, not even a year within him passing had
- 1:35:15Speaker 3: nothing to do with her love for him because she
- 1:35:16Speaker 3: still was grieving, but she just had this overwhelming desire
- 1:35:19Speaker 3: to get down. Here it also happens after divorce a
- 1:35:23Speaker 3: lot of times, too. Well, I mean, after divorce, I
- 1:35:25Speaker 3: think it's a little different. Okay, you got that one
- 1:35:28Speaker 3: passed me. You got me in explaining mode with that.
- 1:35:31Speaker 3: You can't do that. What are you doing? I've never
- 1:35:35Speaker 3: heard of this, and it is beyond fascinating. This is
- 1:35:38Speaker 3: a great get. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And she actually wrote
- 1:35:42Speaker 3: a book about it, which is kind of cool. Her
- 1:35:44Speaker 3: name is Diane Pike Hyler. She wrote a book about
- 1:35:47Speaker 3: this whole thing, this whole phenomenon of widow's fire. But
- 1:35:49Speaker 3: I just kind of found it very interesting because I've not–
- 1:35:52Speaker 3: I've not even heard of the term before, and then
- 1:35:53Speaker 3: we bring it up, and two or three people in
- 1:35:55Speaker 3: the audience already know exactly what we're talking about, and
- 1:35:57Speaker 3: one of them has experienced it.
- 1:35:58Speaker 9: Two of them.
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: Two of them, yeah.
- 1:35:59Speaker 3: Well, it also– and I know it's different, but I
- 1:36:02Speaker 3: keep thinking about Patton Oswalt and his situation. Can dudes
- 1:36:06Speaker 3: be literal widows? Widowers. Widowers. Right, yeah, yeah, yeah. So
- 1:36:11Speaker 3: I remember– Was he the one– his wife– His wife passed.
- 1:36:15Speaker 3: I don't think she was killed, but she was like
- 1:36:17Speaker 3: a CSI private investigator that was hunting down the Golden
- 1:36:21Speaker 3: State killer. That's what she dedicated her life to. She
- 1:36:25Speaker 3: died right before he was captured. But then it made
- 1:36:29Speaker 3: headlines that Patton Oswalt, within the year, was seeing someone. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:36:35Speaker 3: And I think all of us, the general public, whenever
- 1:36:38Speaker 3: we see someone... a widower or a widow jump back
- 1:36:44Speaker 3: into a relationship, all of us... At least maybe I'm
- 1:36:47Speaker 3: judging too harshly, but it's like, whoa. Slow down. Slow down.
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: Right, right, right.
- 1:36:52Speaker 3: And, like, we know what that's like. I didn't even
- 1:36:54Speaker 3: know widow's fire was a thing. Yeah, no idea. That's
- 1:36:57Speaker 3: kind of wild. And it doesn't mention it with dudes.
- 1:36:59Speaker 3: It does not say anything about guys going through this
- 1:37:02Speaker 3: same exact phenomenon. Like, if they lost their wife, they
- 1:37:04Speaker 3: don't become automatically horny. But I think Deb maybe has
- 1:37:06Speaker 3: a point that maybe we're wired like that all the time.
- 1:37:09Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:37:09Speaker 3: And it wouldn't matter, you know, I mean— You would
- 1:37:12Speaker 3: still mourn your wife, but you would still want to
- 1:37:13Speaker 3: get down. It would have nothing to do with you
- 1:37:15Speaker 3: losing your partner. On the way home from the funeral. Yeah.
- 1:37:19Speaker 3: Make a quick stop, Jack? Yeah, yeah, yeah. A little
- 1:37:22Speaker 3: Circle K bathroom action? I don't think I could. Keep
- 1:37:25Speaker 3: the engine running on the limo. What do you mean
- 1:37:27Speaker 3: you don't think you could? You're saying if your wife
- 1:37:30Speaker 3: passed away, you don't think within a year you could
- 1:37:31Speaker 3: have sex? Mm-mm. I don't think I could. You don't
- 1:37:33Speaker 3: think so either, Debra? Mm-mm.
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: I'd be done.
- 1:37:36Speaker 3: Yeah. You would be done? I'm done. It feels like
- 1:37:38Speaker 3: I would be done. Hold up.
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: I mean, I was done for 17. Well, I mean,
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: not having. Yeah, I got you.
- 1:37:43Speaker 3: I got you.
- 1:37:43Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:37:44Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: No. Plus, I mean, yeah, no.
- 1:37:46Speaker 3: I would be crying.
- 1:37:47Speaker 4: Really?
- 1:37:48Speaker 3: That's wild. So you don't you don't think you would
- 1:37:50Speaker 3: have it in you to even experience this, even if
- 1:37:52Speaker 3: you think you're mentally would be over what your body
- 1:37:54Speaker 3: starts craving?
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: That I don't know. I mean, this is this is
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: it from what you're describing and even what the texters
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: are saying.
- 1:38:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: Is that this was a completely unexpected side effect of
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: grief that they weren't prepared for. So again, you can
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: always emotionally and psychologically think one thing, and then physiologically
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: your body's going to go, okay, hold this beer, girl.
- 1:38:17Speaker 3: Jack, do you think if you passed away that Naomi
- 1:38:19Speaker 3: would just pull the curtain and hit the person in
- 1:38:21Speaker 3: your room? and i'll let you sit in that one
- 1:38:31Speaker 3: shameful privacy curtain action i know i would I would
- 1:38:43Speaker 3: still be breathing my last breath. I would have to
- 1:38:45Speaker 3: hear her humping while the machine is pumping oxygen, while
- 1:38:50Speaker 3: the ventilator is running. I would hear her pumping between
- 1:38:53Speaker 3: ventilator pumps. That's exactly how it would be for me.
- 1:38:55Speaker 3: Your last words are, who's that? Yeah, I could see myself.
- 1:39:02Speaker 3: I don't even tell my wife I'm that sick anymore.
- 1:39:04Speaker 3: If I was a widower and I'm putting myself off
- 1:39:10Speaker 3: of what I've just experienced the last, you know, 10
- 1:39:12Speaker 3: years with my wife, I just would be, I would
- 1:39:16Speaker 3: not put myself in that position. I wouldn't put another
- 1:39:19Speaker 3: person in that position because who wants to have sex
- 1:39:21Speaker 3: with someone crying? I will cry. I want to text
- 1:39:27Speaker 3: my wife so bad. Don't.
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: You're not going to be happy.
- 1:39:30Speaker 3: I'm going to text her right now.
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: Someone else texted us, though, at 77031. I went through
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: this five months after my husband died at age 55.
- 1:39:37Speaker 13: Oh.
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: What friends I had left were tired of me being around.
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: I was looking for companionship. Ended up finding my life partner.
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: We've been together eight years now, married a year and
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: a half.
- 1:39:49Speaker 3: Damn, look at that. Also, going to be a little
- 1:39:51Speaker 3: too human here. There is part of me that finds
- 1:39:55Speaker 3: this pretty hot. What do you mean? Is that weird?
- 1:39:59Speaker 3: Do you think it's sexy that an older woman who
- 1:40:01Speaker 3: lost her husband is coming alive? I don't know. I
- 1:40:04Speaker 3: just really like knowing that older women are still pursuing women.
- 1:40:09Speaker 3: They got that fire, right? Yeah, they're being a human. Like,
- 1:40:13Speaker 3: I find this awesome. This is good news. Like, this
- 1:40:15Speaker 3: seems like the first page of a really hot romance
- 1:40:19Speaker 3: novel or something with Fabio on the front.
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: Just because there's snow on the roof doesn't mean there
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: isn't a fire in the furnace.
- 1:40:25Speaker 3: That's right. I don't know. I'm just like, you know,
- 1:40:28Speaker 3: I don't hear too many... Good news things are about
- 1:40:31Speaker 3: being an older woman, and this kind of makes me
- 1:40:35Speaker 3: happy for him.
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: Oh, no. This is the best time.
- 1:40:37Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah. Interesting. I didn't say... I wasn't putting you
- 1:40:41Speaker 3: in that group. I didn't say that. You were so cute.
- 1:40:45Speaker 3: I just texted my wife and asked her. I said... Oh, no.
- 1:40:47Speaker 3: I said, how long would you wait to have sex
- 1:40:49Speaker 3: if I died? No response yet. How long would you
- 1:40:55Speaker 3: wait to have sex... When I died.
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: Would you even– I would never even text that to Chris.
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: First of all, he'd be like, what the hell?
- 1:41:03Speaker 3: I mean, she knows I'm screwed up, though. She knows
- 1:41:05Speaker 3: it's bad. She understands. I mean, I would text– And
- 1:41:07Speaker 3: she knows we're close. Jack would be the first one
- 1:41:13Speaker 3: moving in. I can feel it. I can literally feel it.
- 1:41:16Speaker 3: He would be pulling the curtain.
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: I was just about to say, as you're taking your
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: dying breath, Jack would be like, is he gone yet?
- 1:41:21Speaker 3: All right. 407-916-1047. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:41:31Speaker 3: I'm digging the jumper, daddy-o. You're flatlining. He's going, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 1:41:38Speaker 3: Jack would be the worst person to have at your deathbed.
- 1:41:41Speaker 3: Do you want to hear what my wife said? She
- 1:41:46Speaker 3: just texted me back. I said, how long would you
- 1:41:49Speaker 3: wait to have sex after I died? Her response was
- 1:41:52Speaker 3: six minutes. Exactly six minutes. That means she has someone
- 1:41:59Speaker 3: locked and loaded.
- 1:42:00Speaker 14: That's exactly what I'm saying. They could be standing at
- 1:42:04Speaker 14: your bedside together. Dude probably lives in her attic. All right.
- 1:42:08Speaker 3: 407-916-1041. Text us 77031. Five o'clock keyword is bank. That's B-A-N-K.
- 1:42:13Speaker 3: Still got some time to get over to realradio.fm and
- 1:42:15Speaker 3: send that away for your chance at $ 1, 000. Load them up, guys.
- 1:42:19Speaker 3: It's time for Pick the Porn.
- 1:42:27Speaker 7: Hope you guys are doing well. So when you said
- 1:42:29Speaker 7: widow's fire, the first thing that came to my mind
- 1:42:31Speaker 7: was it's literally a widow jumping on that D and
- 1:42:35Speaker 7: basically riding it.
- 1:42:36Speaker 3: Until she starts a fire.
- 1:42:38Speaker 8: And technically I was right because it has to do
- 1:42:40Speaker 8: with sex.
- 1:42:41Speaker 3: So thanks.
- 1:42:42Speaker 4: Bye.
- 1:42:42Speaker 1: Bye.
- 1:42:43Speaker 3: All right. Hey, Ross, buddy, do you think you would
- 1:42:48Speaker 3: be more likely to floss if floss was spelled Like socks.
- 1:42:55Speaker 3: That's a very good question. Checkmate, sir. That is a
- 1:42:58Speaker 3: checkmate scenario. Checkmate touche. Got about eight minutes for your
- 1:43:03Speaker 3: 5 o'clock keyword, which is bank. B-A-N-K. I'm Jim. There's Deb. Hello.
- 1:43:09Speaker 3: Jack is here. So is Ross. Survived two legal doses.
- 1:43:12Speaker 3: Jack has the Jaffee Sack. What's in there? All aboard. Chugga-chugga. Choo-choo.
- 1:43:17Speaker 3: Look at it glug.
- 1:43:17Speaker 9: Look at it glug.
- 1:43:18Speaker 6: Got a pair of tickets to see the Smashing Pumpkins
- 1:43:21Speaker 6: in concert.
- 1:43:22Speaker 3: It's the Rats in a Cage tour at the Benchmark.
- 1:43:24Speaker 6: International Arena on October 18th. I also have a pair
- 1:43:28Speaker 6: of tickets to see Journey. The final Frontier Tour at
- 1:43:32Speaker 6: the Kia Center, October 17th. Those are the two prizes
- 1:43:36Speaker 6: in the Jackie Sacks today.
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: So back to you.
- 1:43:39Speaker 8: Yes, ma'am.
- 1:43:40Speaker 3: One, two, three, four, or five.
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: Let's do the two.
- 1:43:43Speaker 3: Two sounds good. That is Lisa. Lisa, how you doing?
- 1:43:47Speaker 9: Good.
- 1:43:48Speaker 3: How are you? Doing great. Want to play a little
- 1:43:49Speaker 3: game with us? I do. Let's do it then. Very perky.
- 1:43:53Speaker 2: You can put a lifetime of research to work and
- 1:43:55Speaker 2: maybe win a prize. It's time for Pick the Porn
- 1:44:00Speaker 2: on the Jim Colbert Show.
- 1:44:01Speaker 3: That's right, Lisa. It is Friday. And of course, that
- 1:44:03Speaker 3: means it's time for another round of Pick the Porn.
- 1:44:05Speaker 3: Here are three actual adult film titles and one lie
- 1:44:08Speaker 3: that needs to lay low in your shed for a
- 1:44:10Speaker 3: few days. That's when you.
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: Know it's getting bad.
- 1:44:15Speaker 3: Don't mind me. All right, Lisa. Got to find the
- 1:44:20Speaker 3: fakie here. Are you ready?
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: I'm ready.
- 1:44:22Speaker 3: Here we go. Number one. Whoa. Number one.
- 1:44:27Speaker 1: Boom.
- 1:44:27Speaker 3: Pretty exuberant there with that I'm ready. All right. Very good.
- 1:44:29Speaker 3: Here we go. Number one, Muffy the Vampire Lair. Number two,
- 1:44:36Speaker 3: Oriental Rugs. Number three, California Reman. Or lastly, no, Brianna, no.
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: Oh, I'm going to have to go with number four.
- 1:44:53Speaker 3: No, that's absolutely an actual adult film title. Yeah, no, Brianna, no.
- 1:44:58Speaker 3: is an actual adult film title.
- 1:44:59Speaker 1: Oh, I got to know what the cover of That
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: Bad Boy looks like.
- 1:45:02Speaker 3: Let's say Brianna needs to be talked out of some
- 1:45:03Speaker 3: stuff that's not going to be good for Brianna. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:45:09Speaker 3: I think it's her dad in the doorway and there's
- 1:45:11Speaker 3: a bunch of dudes in the front yard. She's like, no, Brianna, no.
- 1:45:14Speaker 3: Brianna had a bright future. All right, one, three, or four?
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: We're going to go one.
- 1:45:20Speaker 3: One sounds good. That is Mike. Mike, how are you, buddy?
- 1:45:23Speaker 3: I'm doing well, Jim. How about yourself? Doing good, buddy.
- 1:45:25Speaker 3: All right, find the fakie here. Which one of these
- 1:45:27Speaker 3: is not real? Number one, Muffy the Vampire Lair. Number two,
- 1:45:31Speaker 3: Oriental Rugs. Or lastly, California Remans.
- 1:45:37Speaker 15: I'm going to go with Oriental Rug.
- 1:45:39Speaker 3: No, unfortunately, that is an actual adult film title, and
- 1:45:44Speaker 3: it is painfully self-explanatory. We are going to move forward.
- 1:45:47Speaker 3: But it's got to be an older film, right? Because
- 1:45:49Speaker 3: that word kind of got canceled. It is. You're going
- 1:45:52Speaker 3: to see some hair. It's a classic one. It's a
- 1:45:56Speaker 3: classic one. But it's not curly. It's straight. We have
- 1:45:59Speaker 3: to be very cool, guys. Jeez Louise.
- 1:46:02Speaker 1: Yes, Oriental are rugs, not people.
- 1:46:05Speaker 3: Yes, all right.
- 1:46:06Speaker 1: Four.
- 1:46:07Speaker 3: Four sounds good. All right, let's go to Robert. Robert,
- 1:46:09Speaker 3: how you doing, buddy? I'm not bad. How are you
- 1:46:11Speaker 3: guys today? Good, buddy. You got a 50-50 shot here
- 1:46:14Speaker 3: at going for the old Jackie sack. Which one of
- 1:46:17Speaker 3: these is not an actual adult film title? Number one,
- 1:46:20Speaker 3: Muffy the Vampire Lair or California Reman. Man, I got
- 1:46:26Speaker 3: to go number one. No, that is an actual adult
- 1:46:30Speaker 3: film title, buddy.
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: Man, you haven't made it this far in Fake the
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: Porn in forever.
- 1:46:35Speaker 3: Robert, how are you, Robert? Good. All right, buddy, listen,
- 1:46:39Speaker 3: tell me. Good, good. Robert, he's got a lot of
- 1:46:42Speaker 3: blood issues right now. Robert, tell me, is California Reman
- 1:46:48Speaker 3: an actual adult film title?
- 1:46:51Speaker 13: I don't think it is.
- 1:46:52Speaker 3: It is not, buddy. You're a winner. Robert there on
- 1:46:56Speaker 3: line three, Jack. He is a winner. And what winner
- 1:47:00Speaker 3: wouldn't know that that is fake? Tough pulling today, guys.
- 1:47:05Speaker 3: I mean, that was not bad. It was tough to
- 1:47:07Speaker 3: find these titles today. Tough pulling doesn't come out right.
- 1:47:10Speaker 3: It sure doesn't, no. It was tough pulling. Tough tugging.
- 1:47:13Speaker 3: It was tough work today. God, what am I doing?
- 1:47:17Speaker 3: My favorite part of that was actually that last loser
- 1:47:20Speaker 3: who got the question wrong and went, I got to
- 1:47:23Speaker 3: go number one. Yeah, no extras today because, I mean,
- 1:47:30Speaker 3: it was so hard even finding the ones that we
- 1:47:32Speaker 3: used today. I had no time to find any extra ones.
- 1:47:35Speaker 3: I got to stop doing that because these are becoming
- 1:47:37Speaker 3: progressively more difficult to find that we can do on
- 1:47:39Speaker 3: the air, you know? Well, I don't know. I'm sure
- 1:47:42Speaker 3: you feel terrible for me.
- 1:47:45Speaker 1: So Muffy the vampire lair.
- 1:47:47Speaker 3: Yeah, 100. 100. Looks a lot like her, too, let
- 1:47:50Speaker 3: me be honest with you. Ross, thoughts? Big time thoughts, man.
- 1:47:54Speaker 3: I'm sorry. I got to go number one. It's making
- 1:47:58Speaker 3: me laugh. So today's Ross thoughts. I need to ask
- 1:48:02Speaker 3: the world. You three are texting service. If I wasted money,
- 1:48:08Speaker 3: I have insurance on something and I didn't use the
- 1:48:12Speaker 3: insurance on that. Something. Oh, this is a coin flip
- 1:48:16Speaker 3: that so many people make every single day.
- 1:48:19Speaker 1: Because sometimes you're like, let me just pay this out
- 1:48:22Speaker 1: of pocket so that I don't look at my insurance
- 1:48:24Speaker 1: rates skyrocket.
- 1:48:25Speaker 3: So I ran into that scenario. I will tell you
- 1:48:29Speaker 3: how I painted myself into this corner. But just even
- 1:48:33Speaker 3: if I did waste my money, just quickly lie to me.
- 1:48:37Speaker 3: I didn't lose my money. I didn't waste it. So
- 1:48:39Speaker 3: I wasted my money. I'll tell you everything after the break.
- 1:48:41Speaker 3: I will do that next.
- 1:48:43Speaker 2: Are you offended yet? Obviously, we're only kidding. You're listening
- 1:48:46Speaker 2: to The Jim Colbert Show.
- 1:48:54Speaker 7: What's up, Jimmy and crew? I've been doing it all
- 1:48:56Speaker 7: wrong all my life. I've been going to clubs and
- 1:48:59Speaker 7: bars to try to hook up, but now I'm just
- 1:49:00Speaker 7: going to start going to funeral homes and meet horny
- 1:49:03Speaker 7: old women. Your boy's going to slay.
- 1:49:07Speaker 3: Afternoon, Colbert crew.
- 1:49:08Speaker 12: I don't know what is happening, but this morning, Ryan
- 1:49:11Speaker 12: was talking about he can't make love to R &
- 1:49:14Speaker 12: B because he keeps thinking about the black guy. Now
- 1:49:17Speaker 12: you guys are all talking about small bananas, big bananas,
- 1:49:20Speaker 12: medium bananas.
- 1:49:21Speaker 3: What is happening? Oh, my God.
- 1:49:23Speaker 12: Let's talk some other stuff.
- 1:49:24Speaker 3: Hey, Chuck.
- 1:49:26Speaker 12: I'm going to be on the surf on Sunday at
- 1:49:29Speaker 12: Siucoco Beach.
- 1:49:30Speaker 3: And then we go to the FM Pizza. How about that?
- 1:49:33Speaker 3: FM Pizza, Jack.
- 1:49:34Speaker 12: See ya.
- 1:49:35Speaker 3: Got to go to FM Pizza, Jack. I'd like to,
- 1:49:38Speaker 3: but I'm going to see Weezer Sunday night.
- 1:49:41Speaker 13: Oh, man.
- 1:49:43Speaker 1: You've got a full dance card.
- 1:49:44Speaker 3: Yeah, I know. I come back from the beach, and
- 1:49:46Speaker 3: then it's right to the Kia Center. Wow, really?
- 1:49:48Speaker 2: That's good.
- 1:49:49Speaker 3: All right, welcome back to the Jim Colbert Show, Real
- 1:49:51Speaker 3: Radio 104.1. Your 6 o'clock keyword is Bills, B-I-L-L-S. Go
- 1:49:56Speaker 3: to realradio.fm and send it off for your chance at $ 1, 000. Remember,
- 1:49:59Speaker 3: you can enter via the iHeartRadio app as well while
- 1:50:02Speaker 3: you're there. Please make us your number one preset. That
- 1:50:05Speaker 3: helps us out a lot. Again, your 6 o'clock keyword
- 1:50:07Speaker 3: is Bills, B-I-L-L-S. Welcome back. I'm Jim. There's Deb. Hello.
- 1:50:13Speaker 3: Jack is here as well. Yeah. And Ross has some thoughts.
- 1:50:15Speaker 3: Let's get them. Open it. It's weird. I'm here.
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: It's funny.
- 1:50:19Speaker 3: With whiskey. Sometimes. I know I've got to get some
- 1:50:21Speaker 3: more of mine. Let's try. It's Ross. Spelled like sauce.
- 1:50:25Speaker 3: That's true. Here. It's Ross. First and foremost, today's Ross
- 1:50:29Speaker 3: Thoughts is brought to you by personal injury attorney Mo DeWitt.
- 1:50:33Speaker 3: You know how the limerick goes. Injured on the go?
- 1:50:36Speaker 3: Just call Mo. Justcallmo.com. Also has a Mo Comedy Jam
- 1:50:40Speaker 3: coming up at the Orlando Funny Bone. I'm going. I'm
- 1:50:43Speaker 3: not there. I'm not on it because I'm at Orlando City,
- 1:50:46Speaker 3: but you can get your tickets at mocomedyjam.com. Yeah, we're
- 1:50:49Speaker 3: going to have Ross McCoy on next week to talk
- 1:50:52Speaker 3: about the Mo Comedy Jam. Hell yeah.
- 1:50:54Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:50:55Speaker 3: So, for today's thoughts, I had just, I have not
- 1:51:00Speaker 3: been doing well with, like, I'm kind of always a
- 1:51:04Speaker 3: little bit paranoid that I'm forgetting something. Like, oh, God,
- 1:51:08Speaker 3: there's a tax thing that I didn't fill out two
- 1:51:11Speaker 3: years ago, maybe. Oh, yeah, man, I live with that
- 1:51:13Speaker 3: every day of my life, buddy. Like, every day of
- 1:51:15Speaker 3: my life, I think there's something I've forgotten. Like, walking
- 1:51:17Speaker 3: out of my house every day. And usually, I'm pretty, like,
- 1:51:20Speaker 3: it's exhausting being proactive, right?
- 1:51:22Speaker 11: Right.
- 1:51:22Speaker 3: Yes, it is. You're maybe possible. Oopsie daisies. Sure is.
- 1:51:27Speaker 3: But that's the sign of a somewhat of a good human.
- 1:51:30Speaker 3: But there's one aspect of life where I really don't
- 1:51:33Speaker 3: do that. And that is with my cell phone. My
- 1:51:36Speaker 3: cell phone. If you do not know, I don't have
- 1:51:38Speaker 3: a case. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:51:41Speaker 1: Living on the edge.
- 1:51:42Speaker 3: You ride raw. I ride raw. Yeah, yeah. You're a
- 1:51:45Speaker 3: raw dog. I bring that up because I don't want
- 1:51:48Speaker 3: anybody to think that this was because I didn't have
- 1:51:52Speaker 3: a cell phone case. A couple, five, six days ago,
- 1:51:56Speaker 3: my son turned the corner. He had my phone in
- 1:51:58Speaker 3: his hand, and he lifted it up, and he went, Dada!
- 1:52:01Speaker 4: Oh.
- 1:52:02Speaker 3: Oh, no. And honestly, we are not the phone parent,
- 1:52:06Speaker 3: the parent phone people. I don't know what you mean
- 1:52:09Speaker 3: by that. Like, in other words... You don't care if
- 1:52:10Speaker 3: your son has a phone or you don't want to
- 1:52:12Speaker 3: get your kid a phone. We don't give them the
- 1:52:13Speaker 3: phone for videos. The one thing we will do is
- 1:52:17Speaker 3: that we'll use it as a camera so he can
- 1:52:20Speaker 3: see himself. And then he's taken photos and selfies before.
- 1:52:24Speaker 3: But we've never played Miss Rachel on a phone. We've
- 1:52:27Speaker 3: never played Blue's Clues or Little Bear on a phone.
- 1:52:30Speaker 3: Is it because you don't want him to know he
- 1:52:32Speaker 3: can take that with him? uh or you want him
- 1:52:34Speaker 3: to have that like a specific place or time that
- 1:52:36Speaker 3: he sees that or yeah right now screen yeah yeah
- 1:52:39Speaker 3: is you know trying to keep the paranoia down sure
- 1:52:43Speaker 3: thing yeah solely a home thing so yeah if we're
- 1:52:46Speaker 3: out in public we have toys and i don't honestly
- 1:52:49Speaker 3: i don't understand why most other parents like once you
- 1:52:53Speaker 3: give them crack a toy it doesn't really look So
- 1:52:58Speaker 3: maybe that was the problem is that you started off
- 1:53:01Speaker 3: with crack cocaine before you went with like a fidget spinner.
- 1:53:07Speaker 3: So he turns the corner. He has my phone and
- 1:53:09Speaker 3: he goes, dad, dad. I go, whoop. I take it
- 1:53:12Speaker 3: out of his hand. It is unbelievably hot. I look
- 1:53:16Speaker 3: at my phone, and there's a notification that says, new
- 1:53:20Speaker 3: battery installed, foreign battery, non-genuine Apple battery detected, 1% top
- 1:53:27Speaker 3: right battery. That's what it says on my phone. What
- 1:53:29Speaker 3: did Miles do? I'm pretty sure my son did not
- 1:53:32Speaker 3: replace the phone battery. He did not do that. You
- 1:53:35Speaker 3: don't know. I don't know what he did, but this
- 1:53:38Speaker 3: thing came in hot and sane and had a new battery,
- 1:53:41Speaker 3: and then it kind of stopped working. Like a software
- 1:53:44Speaker 3: glitch of some sort. I didn't know. I don't know
- 1:53:46Speaker 3: if he peed, pooped on it. I have no idea
- 1:53:48Speaker 3: what he did to this phone. Yeah, okay. Poop would be... Yeah,
- 1:53:52Speaker 3: go ahead. I plug it into my computer. The phone
- 1:53:58Speaker 3: turns on, and then it shuts off every 15 minutes.
- 1:54:02Speaker 3: The problem with that is that I can't back up
- 1:54:04Speaker 3: my phone to my computer. Right, which is what you're
- 1:54:07Speaker 3: trying to do, trying to sync it so you can
- 1:54:08Speaker 3: download everything and then, yeah. Maybe get a new phone.
- 1:54:10Speaker 3: Sure thing. Or I can then wipe the phone and
- 1:54:13Speaker 3: send it in because that's what my insurance policy says. Hey,
- 1:54:18Speaker 3: wipe the phone, send it in. I also have not
- 1:54:22Speaker 3: upgraded my iCloud. I also have a toddler. You see
- 1:54:26Speaker 3: where I'm going? I have a lot of photos of
- 1:54:28Speaker 3: my child. Also, like, other stuff that I'm like, I
- 1:54:34Speaker 3: want to keep close to the chest and to the grave. Okay. Okay.
- 1:54:40Speaker 3: Don't leave your phone anywhere. All right. Jack is already
- 1:54:43Speaker 3: thinking about it. Well, 1,000% Jack's already thinking about it.
- 1:54:47Speaker 3: Give me my phone back. What I got. He's going
- 1:54:50Speaker 3: to guess your keyword in three tries. I'm going to
- 1:54:52Speaker 3: get his face. Oh, it opened up. Nope, nope, nope. So,
- 1:54:57Speaker 3: follow me here. I bring it. I make the decision
- 1:55:00Speaker 3: of going, I don't want to lose those toddler photos.
- 1:55:02Speaker 3: Completely understood. And those other stuff.
- 1:55:04Speaker 13: Okay.
- 1:55:04Speaker 3: Okay. And I... But you can't let anybody else download
- 1:55:07Speaker 3: that because of the other stuff. Right? And then I
- 1:55:09Speaker 3: can't sync it to my computer, back up the entire
- 1:55:12Speaker 3: phone because it just keeps shutting off after 15 minutes. Okay.
- 1:55:16Speaker 3: And a backup usually takes about two hours. Okay. I
- 1:55:19Speaker 3: go to Ubreak iFix and... I walk in and I go, hey,
- 1:55:25Speaker 3: this is my phone. They go, yeah, it's a battery thing.
- 1:55:28Speaker 3: So I was like, it doesn't have anything to do
- 1:55:30Speaker 3: with the case. And he goes, no, it's just a
- 1:55:31Speaker 3: battery thing. I go, thank God, because everyone is going
- 1:55:34Speaker 3: to think it's the case. It's all cracked. It is cracked.
- 1:55:38Speaker 3: And he goes, well, get a new battery. He's a
- 1:55:42Speaker 3: very odd fellow as well. Long hair. All right. He
- 1:55:46Speaker 3: plays Dungeons and Dragons. My kind of guy, to be
- 1:55:48Speaker 3: honest with you. And he breaks it down. He lets
- 1:55:51Speaker 3: me know. He gives me the price for it. I'm like, God,
- 1:55:54Speaker 3: just for like... Six months of photos of my kid. Sure,
- 1:55:58Speaker 3: I'll do it. I get the battery replaced. But when
- 1:56:02Speaker 3: I go to pick up the phone, right, he needs
- 1:56:05Speaker 3: to test if it works. This is all I've wasted
- 1:56:08Speaker 3: your time to bring you to this next moment. He goes,
- 1:56:12Speaker 3: tell me your ID. Tell me your passcode. Oh, yeah, no.
- 1:56:18Speaker 6: No.
- 1:56:19Speaker 3: And I'm stuck. I look back at his long blonde
- 1:56:23Speaker 3: hair next to his acne-filled cheeks. You have to do it. No,
- 1:56:27Speaker 3: you don't. He can hand it to you, and you
- 1:56:29Speaker 3: can type it in and then hand it back to
- 1:56:31Speaker 3: his ass, but he doesn't need to type it in.
- 1:56:34Speaker 3: So there's– see my problem here? Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:56:39Speaker 3: Did like I gave that guy that passcode and then
- 1:56:44Speaker 3: it unlocked. And here's another thing as well, is that
- 1:56:46Speaker 3: the screen was off the phone. So I couldn't face
- 1:56:51Speaker 3: ID face ID wasn't like one. So it needed my passcode.
- 1:56:56Speaker 3: But you can change your passcode. Thank God. Right. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:57:02Speaker 3: I can. I'm going to have to. I should. Yeah,
- 1:57:04Speaker 3: you should. Yeah, I would never. Dude, can I tell
- 1:57:07Speaker 3: you something? This is how freaked out I am. When
- 1:57:10Speaker 3: I go to a fast food restaurant to get some
- 1:57:12Speaker 3: food or whatever, and I bring my phone out to pay,
- 1:57:14Speaker 3: and they're like, hey, the mechanism is inside here. I
- 1:57:17Speaker 3: have to grab your phone. and do that, I get
- 1:57:19Speaker 3: a credit card. I'm like, you're not touching my phone.
- 1:57:22Speaker 3: I'm not giving you my phone. Even for five seconds
- 1:57:24Speaker 3: for you to pay for Chick-fil-A, I'm not doing it.
- 1:57:26Speaker 3: I'm kind of like joking. I'm half joking when I
- 1:57:29Speaker 3: say there's nothing too explicit on my phone, but I
- 1:57:33Speaker 3: have never given... Someone, those numbers, and boy, did 2026
- 1:57:40Speaker 3: just hit me square in the throat. Hit me right
- 1:57:43Speaker 3: in the face of going, wow, that just wasn't a
- 1:57:45Speaker 3: thing in 98. Not a chance. That wasn't a thing
- 1:57:47Speaker 3: in 2008. When, like, every password you can now have
- 1:57:53Speaker 3: access to if you can unlock a phone. The amount
- 1:57:57Speaker 3: of power and data that are in these devices and
- 1:58:01Speaker 3: having it taken away. with someone who now has that
- 1:58:06Speaker 3: personal information. Right, yeah, I felt. I felt anger. I
- 1:58:11Speaker 3: felt scared. I go, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. That's
- 1:58:15Speaker 3: my Apple savings account. You're like vulnerable. Unbelievably. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:58:20Speaker 3: No chance, buddy. And throwing this out here, when my
- 1:58:23Speaker 3: phone broke, and man, I know people know this, and
- 1:58:27Speaker 3: I knew this last week, but then I got reminded
- 1:58:30Speaker 3: of it. I didn't have a phone for about four days. No.
- 1:58:34Speaker 3: And is that why you didn't call? Explain. Yes, probably. And, Deb,
- 1:58:40Speaker 3: real fast, explain that noise. Oh. Not having your phone
- 1:58:46Speaker 3: for four days? Well, yeah. I mean, that's. No animal videos?
- 1:58:49Speaker 1: Well, I mean, it's for us. I couldn't get into
- 1:58:52Speaker 1: the building.
- 1:58:53Speaker 3: It was.
- 1:58:53Speaker 1: Couldn't get to work. I wouldn't be able to call anyone.
- 1:58:56Speaker 1: Your credit cards.
- 1:58:57Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:58:58Speaker 1: Everything.
- 1:58:59Speaker 3: It was too good. Should I have a phone for
- 1:59:03Speaker 3: four days? To the point where I'm at the crossroads
- 1:59:06Speaker 3: of going dumb phone. You know what I've heard? Really?
- 1:59:10Speaker 3: If I can upload reels through Instagram, through a web browser,
- 1:59:14Speaker 3: I think I'm done. About to peace out, huh? I
- 1:59:16Speaker 3: think I am telling you that productivity, mental health, mental clarity.
- 1:59:23Speaker 3: Was great. Skyrocketed to the point where I'm uncomfortable confessing this.
- 1:59:27Speaker 3: How many days or how many hours should I say
- 1:59:30Speaker 3: did it take you to? to stop kind of thinking
- 1:59:33Speaker 3: or looking for like reaching for it, right? Reaching for
- 1:59:36Speaker 3: it or wondering where you're going to the bathroom without it.
- 1:59:38Speaker 3: Or I think like two hours, maybe only a handful
- 1:59:43Speaker 3: of times. Um, even throughout those four days where I
- 1:59:47Speaker 3: didn't have a phone and I'm still able to communicate
- 1:59:50Speaker 3: through my computer and I can text and respond to emails.
- 1:59:53Speaker 3: I can still FaceTime audio and call people through my computer. Um,
- 1:59:57Speaker 3: But it was shocking. Are you a social guy? You know,
- 2:00:00Speaker 3: the funny thing is I know that you have a
- 2:00:02Speaker 3: big presence on social media because of all your videos,
- 2:00:04Speaker 3: but are you a social media consumer very much? Are
- 2:00:07Speaker 3: you a stroller? Embarrassingly so. Are you really? And you
- 2:00:11Speaker 3: know what? I didn't know that about you because I
- 2:00:12Speaker 3: don't ever see you doing it here. I've done it,
- 2:00:15Speaker 3: I think, on every break. Oh, have you really?
- 2:00:16Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 2:00:17Speaker 3: I just assume you're doing business or talking to your
- 2:00:18Speaker 3: wife or setting up something else. And sometimes it is,
- 2:00:21Speaker 3: but I know that there is... Like, in hindsight, it
- 2:00:25Speaker 3: has to be unhealthy. If you are one of the
- 2:00:27Speaker 3: people right now listening to this and you pull out
- 2:00:31Speaker 3: your phone at a red light, I'm going to put
- 2:00:34Speaker 3: that as the smoking gun evidence of you might have a...
- 2:00:38Speaker 3: I haven't even stopped rolling yet before it's in my hand.
- 2:00:42Speaker 3: And that... Gotta say something, right? Yeah, dude. That's such
- 2:00:46Speaker 3: a small break.
- 2:00:48Speaker 6: The one thing that finally got me to do it
- 2:00:50Speaker 6: only at Red Light is because now I'm doing it
- 2:00:53Speaker 6: with the auto insurance where you have the app and
- 2:00:55Speaker 6: you get a discount and they track phone use while driving.
- 2:00:59Speaker 10: No way!
- 2:01:00Speaker 3: It's one of those things. How do they know? GPS,
- 2:01:03Speaker 3: if your phone is moving... The phone is moving and
- 2:01:05Speaker 3: you're using it. Get out of here. I know you're
- 2:01:08Speaker 3: not running 45 miles an hour. It's the State Farm Overlord.
- 2:01:14Speaker 3: So I guess it was... If you're just joining me,
- 2:01:18Speaker 3: I was just absolutely taken back by giving someone my passcode,
- 2:01:23Speaker 3: which then made me look into the mirror and go,
- 2:01:26Speaker 3: is this the person who I really want to be?
- 2:01:28Speaker 3: And then not having my phone for those days was...
- 2:01:33Speaker 3: so unbelievably bittersweet. Yeah. Because it was sweet because I
- 2:01:38Speaker 3: all of a sudden started giving people more eye contact.
- 2:01:41Speaker 3: But it doesn't mean because you have it back that
- 2:01:43Speaker 3: you have to go back to that same pattern of behavior, correct?
- 2:01:45Speaker 3: Thank you, Will. Well, why is cocaine illegal?
- 2:01:50Speaker 7: Right?
- 2:01:50Speaker 3: We have free will. We wouldn't have to use it.
- 2:01:52Speaker 3: Or is it because cocaine is proven to be unbelievably
- 2:01:56Speaker 3: addictive and soul-crushing? And that humans don't actually have the
- 2:02:01Speaker 3: willpower to conquer that substance.
- 2:02:04Speaker 1: I've heard of burner phone weekends.
- 2:02:07Speaker 3: Oh, I've never heard of that. You just use a
- 2:02:09Speaker 3: burner phone on the weekend?
- 2:02:10Speaker 1: It's kind of a Gen Z kind of thing. Yeah,
- 2:02:14Speaker 1: for the weekend. It's only a burner phone. So if
- 2:02:17Speaker 1: the people that are the closest to you need to
- 2:02:19Speaker 1: reach you, they will have the number to that burner phone.
- 2:02:22Speaker 1: But for that weekend, it's just a burner phone. Maybe
- 2:02:26Speaker 1: this is how we get the house cleaned.
- 2:02:29Speaker 3: So funny burner phones. Yeah. I just if you if
- 2:02:34Speaker 3: you pull out your phone at a red light, just
- 2:02:37Speaker 3: I am rooting for you to not once or twice
- 2:02:40Speaker 3: these next couple of times.
- 2:02:41Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 2:02:42Speaker 3: I think about you the entire way as you scroll.
- 2:02:46Speaker 1: I mean, I do worry about that. That's why I
- 2:02:49Speaker 1: don't I won't look at my phone while it's rolling.
- 2:02:52Speaker 1: While the car is rolling?
- 2:02:53Speaker 3: Well, and it's not even like a safety thing. When
- 2:02:56Speaker 3: it comes to the car, I'm literally just more concerned
- 2:02:59Speaker 3: about how openly used to and how quick this just became.
- 2:03:04Speaker 3: Like secondary, it's like a secondary motion, right? Yeah, and
- 2:03:07Speaker 3: then having it taken away for the first time, I think,
- 2:03:11Speaker 3: as an adult. And with these adult eyes and having
- 2:03:14Speaker 3: those feelings and feeling that reaction when giving that passcode
- 2:03:17Speaker 3: and not having a phone was jarring to say the least.
- 2:03:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it's the only thing I would literally
- 2:03:24Speaker 1: drive back home to get if I forgot it on
- 2:03:27Speaker 1: the way to work.
- 2:03:27Speaker 3: Same, same. And I have, actually. And no one really
- 2:03:31Speaker 3: thought that about Nokia because no one loved Snake that much. Right, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:03:35Speaker 3: Our friend Angela just said, I only pull my phone
- 2:03:37Speaker 3: out at red lights to text us.
- 2:03:39Speaker 1: And then laughing emoji.
- 2:03:41Speaker 3: Well, texting, like, I'm specifically talking about the scroll at
- 2:03:46Speaker 3: a red light. Consuming content 24-7.
- 2:03:48Speaker 1: Yeah, that I don't do.
- 2:03:49Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah. I'm terrible. I don't want to look at
- 2:03:52Speaker 3: my time used. And I don't want to say, like,
- 2:03:53Speaker 3: it's a bad thing or you're a bad person. I
- 2:03:55Speaker 3: am a bad person. I'll say it. We'll work on
- 2:03:58Speaker 3: it together. And those are your Ross Thoughts, brought to
- 2:04:00Speaker 3: you by Moe. Peace. All right.
- 2:04:03Speaker 1: 407-916-1041.

- 2:04:24Speaker 17: not let our 3-year-old have.
- 2:04:27Speaker 3: a tablet or.
- 2:04:27Speaker 17: A phone he doesn't watch anything on our phone we
- 2:04:29Speaker 17: don't do videos with him on it uh no facetime
- 2:04:32Speaker 17: with the grandparents a picture that's it but nothing with
- 2:04:35Speaker 17: him using the phone at all um we just screen
- 2:04:38Speaker 17: time you know great but no we don't need that
- 2:04:40Speaker 17: we want him to be able to function as a
- 2:04:42Speaker 17: normal person be able to talk to people have conversations
- 2:04:45Speaker 17: it's too easy for a parent to hand him a
- 2:04:47Speaker 17: phone maybe it's not a big deal have a great
- 2:04:49Speaker 17: day guys.
- 2:04:50Speaker 6: Amen yeah and good on you a matter of fact
- 2:04:53Speaker 6: if This times out with today the social reckoning was released.
- 2:04:59Speaker 3: I wanted to say it.
- 2:05:00Speaker 12: Oh, yeah.
- 2:05:01Speaker 6: Yeah, and it's all about the whistleblower at Meta and
- 2:05:05Speaker 6: revealing that they knew the harmful effects and they were
- 2:05:08Speaker 6: actually kind of using that to take advantage of kids.
- 2:05:12Speaker 1: Yeah, 100%.
- 2:05:12Speaker 3: All right, 407-916-1041. That's how you call us. Text us
- 2:05:15Speaker 3: at 77031. Six o'clock keyword is Bills, B-I-L-L-S. RealRadio.fm to
- 2:05:25Speaker 3: win $ 1, 000. Two winners today on the News Junkie. A
- 2:05:29Speaker 3: little jealous of that.
- 2:05:31Speaker 1: Same here.
- 2:05:32Speaker 3: I'm Jim. There's Deb. Hello. Would you rather them be
- 2:05:34Speaker 3: on other radio stations? No. I'd just like to be
- 2:05:37Speaker 3: on this show. It'd be nice. I get it. I
- 2:05:39Speaker 3: get it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm happy for them. I'm
- 2:05:41Speaker 3: not unhappy for them. I wish we had four winners
- 2:05:44Speaker 3: on our show every day. That'd be great.
- 2:05:46Speaker 4: 100%.
- 2:05:46Speaker 3: Yeah. They'd really investigate us then. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So
- 2:05:52Speaker 3: when it comes to memorabilia, I think there's kind of
- 2:05:56Speaker 3: one or two franchises we can agree that pretty much
- 2:05:58Speaker 3: rule the roost, right? Yankees? Movie memorabilia?
- 2:06:03Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:06:04Speaker 3: Yeah, it's pretty much one movie that rules the roost there, right?
- 2:06:06Speaker 3: When it sets the tone for movie memorabilia, correct? I mean,
- 2:06:10Speaker 3: you're talking about one movie? A series of movies, but yes,
- 2:06:14Speaker 3: a franchise of movies has set the tone for that market,
- 2:06:16Speaker 3: I believe, mostly. You're talking about Star Wars. Has to
- 2:06:19Speaker 3: be Star Wars, right? Yeah. Yeah, they set the tone.
- 2:06:21Speaker 3: In other words, the stuff from Star Wars, with the
- 2:06:23Speaker 3: exception of a couple things from Wizard of Oz and
- 2:06:26Speaker 3: movies like that, are going to set the tone for
- 2:06:28Speaker 3: how much money you pay for former movie props and
- 2:06:31Speaker 3: things of that nature, right? Because the shoes, like Dorothy's shoes,
- 2:06:34Speaker 3: sold for a kagillion dollars or whatever. Marilyn's dress. Yeah,
- 2:06:38Speaker 3: that's another one. But that's more of a person thing
- 2:06:41Speaker 3: than it is a franchise thing. But it's still memorabilia.
- 2:06:44Speaker 3: It's from a movie. It is from a movie, but
- 2:06:46Speaker 3: it's because of Marilyn, I think, more than the movie itself.
- 2:06:48Speaker 6: But to Jim's point, Star Wars itself, anything related to
- 2:06:52Speaker 6: the franchise... would have value to the millions of fans.
- 2:06:58Speaker 3: Right, and I think there's other Maryland stuff that has
- 2:07:01Speaker 3: sold and has done quite well. Nothing like this, though.
- 2:07:06Speaker 3: Up for grabs in an auction coming up here soon
- 2:07:09Speaker 3: is going to be some lightsabers. Okay. It's the Ultimate
- 2:07:14Speaker 3: Star Wars Auction held by Heritage Auctions, November 12th. The
- 2:07:20Speaker 3: Vader saber was the one used in Return of the Jedi. Oh,
- 2:07:24Speaker 3: that's a good one. And I believe, if I remember right,
- 2:07:28Speaker 3: it's the one where he says, Luke, I am your father.
- 2:07:32Speaker 3: I thought so. Well, I think that's the one he
- 2:07:34Speaker 3: was holding, if I remember right. Luke, I am your
- 2:07:36Speaker 3: father's Empire Strikes Back. Okay, hold on now. Let me
- 2:07:39Speaker 3: get this right, because there's more than one. Sorry, my
- 2:07:42Speaker 3: nerd flared up. That's okay. I appreciate that, because I
- 2:07:44Speaker 3: do not know, and I'm asking you. I'm asking you.
- 2:07:48Speaker 3: It's two... More than two dozen lightsaber props that will
- 2:07:52Speaker 3: be up for sale. They were used in Return of
- 2:07:55Speaker 3: the Jedi. They're expected to fetch how much money? each? God, man.
- 2:08:02Speaker 1: Oh, that's a tough one. $ 150, 000.
- 2:08:04Speaker 8: Each?
- 2:08:04Speaker 1: Hmm.
- 2:08:10Speaker 3: I'm just talking about that Empire Strikes Back, Luke, I
- 2:08:12Speaker 3: Am Your Father. If that's the lightsaber that he's holding.
- 2:08:16Speaker 1: I'll say $ 250, 000. I'll say $ 75, 000. Oh, really?
- 2:08:21Speaker 3: Okay, the Empire Strikes Back thing is the Yoda puppet
- 2:08:24Speaker 3: used by Frank Oz in the character's original appearance in
- 2:08:27Speaker 3: Empire Strikes Back. So that hand puppet of Yoda is
- 2:08:31Speaker 3: also up for sale. C-3PO actor Anthony Daniels' signed personal
- 2:08:36Speaker 3: third draft screenplay is up for sale. For the original
- 2:08:40Speaker 3: 77 Star Wars and a TIE fighter pilot helmet from
- 2:08:45Speaker 3: Rogue One. Star Wars story is also up for grabs.
- 2:08:50Speaker 3: Friendly reminder, George Lucas didn't direct episode five or six.
- 2:08:54Speaker 2: No, no, no.
- 2:08:54Speaker 3: And it shows. One of the things they explain, by
- 2:08:57Speaker 3: the way, the lightsabers are going to go for about
- 2:08:59Speaker 3: a million apiece, they think.
- 2:09:00Speaker 2: Whoa.
- 2:09:01Speaker 3: A million apiece. And the ones that have provenance, the
- 2:09:04Speaker 3: ones that they can prove, hey, this was the one
- 2:09:06Speaker 3: in that scene. I think we will go even higher.
- 2:09:09Speaker 3: It's the coolest fictional weapon of all time. It said
- 2:09:12Speaker 3: the Vader saber, also used in Return of the Jedi,
- 2:09:15Speaker 3: is expected to fetch at least one million. It's one
- 2:09:19Speaker 3: of more than two dozen lightsaber props that'll be up
- 2:09:21Speaker 3: for grabs. Wow. Other things include the dueling lightsabers forcefully
- 2:09:28Speaker 3: wielded by Ewan McGregor's Obi-Wan Kenobi and Hayden Christensen's Anakin
- 2:09:33Speaker 3: Skywalker in Revenge of the Sith. They're expected to go
- 2:09:36Speaker 3: for $ 10, 000 apiece. And an EE-3 carbine blaster that was
- 2:09:40Speaker 3: used by Boba Fett through the entire movie, Empire Strikes Back,
- 2:09:45Speaker 3: is supposed to get $ 100, 000. What are you laughing at, Ross?
- 2:09:48Speaker 3: Me pronouncing this stuff? No, I'm laughing at the, you
- 2:09:52Speaker 3: can see what society's reaction is to the prequels off
- 2:09:57Speaker 3: of those numbers. Vader's saber, one mil. Yeah, one million dollars.
- 2:10:01Speaker 3: Hayden Christensen's. 10 grand. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, good point.
- 2:10:06Speaker 3: That means, allegedly, I mean, granted, it's because more time,
- 2:10:10Speaker 3: but we value that original trilogy. Was that 1,000% more? Yeah, yeah.
- 2:10:17Speaker 6: I started watching last night on Peacock. It was Icons Unearthed,
- 2:10:21Speaker 6: and it's a six-part series on Star Wars. I just
- 2:10:24Speaker 6: watched the first episode, but they talk... This was all
- 2:10:27Speaker 6: about the first movie, and like that first lightsaber, how they...
- 2:10:32Speaker 6: they were making this up as they go along and, and,
- 2:10:34Speaker 6: and creating this stuff. And they, the first lightsaber was the,
- 2:10:39Speaker 6: the post on an, uh, on an old, uh, a
- 2:10:43Speaker 6: photographer's candle, like a press camera, like you had the
- 2:10:46Speaker 6: camera and then the flash was on it. And it
- 2:10:49Speaker 6: was the thing that held the flash up that, and
- 2:10:52Speaker 6: they're like, he took that and it's like, Oh, that
- 2:10:54Speaker 6: looks cool.
- 2:10:54Speaker 3: Yeah. The thing I marvel about is how they made
- 2:10:57Speaker 3: the sound effects. So the sound effects are some of
- 2:11:00Speaker 3: the lasers. Do you remember that? I do. So they,
- 2:11:02Speaker 3: they went out and you know, the, when the old,
- 2:11:06Speaker 3: the old light poles that used to be held up,
- 2:11:08Speaker 3: they were held up by tension wires, right? Like tension wires.
- 2:11:11Speaker 3: And so they have them now, safety wires, like on
- 2:11:13Speaker 3: big towers, radio towers. And what they would do is
- 2:11:16Speaker 3: they mic'd it and they hit it with like a
- 2:11:19Speaker 3: hammer and it would go. Yeah. Or like a wrench.
- 2:11:22Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:11:23Speaker 6: And it would make that pinging sound. You know, what's
- 2:11:25Speaker 6: funny is I used to remember seeing those wires all
- 2:11:28Speaker 6: the time, but now you don't see those anymore.
- 2:11:30Speaker 1: I was going to say that. I wonder why we don't.
- 2:11:32Speaker 3: You do not see those anymore. But you're right. That's
- 2:11:34Speaker 3: exactly how they used to make the sound effects. And
- 2:11:36Speaker 3: I think Star Wars took them. lot of war scenes.
- 2:11:38Speaker 6: I think i think they got better maybe putting poles
- 2:11:41Speaker 6: in the ground i hope that don't require wires.
- 2:11:44Speaker 1: Or maybe the wires were dangerous but you know i
- 2:11:47Speaker 1: think the the foley artists in movies yeah are some
- 2:11:50Speaker 1: of the more under underappreciated elements of movie making you
- 2:11:55Speaker 1: know the idea of what what makes the sound of
- 2:11:58Speaker 1: a cracked skull they use watermelon you know really yeah
- 2:12:02Speaker 1: when they do footprints they they're walking on sand to
- 2:12:06Speaker 1: do the pew pew you know they Who would think
- 2:12:09Speaker 1: to hit the wire with something metal to get the
- 2:12:11Speaker 1: sound effect that you needed?
- 2:12:12Speaker 3: It said the sound of the lightsabers hitting each other
- 2:12:15Speaker 3: was made by rubbing dry ice on a metal sheet
- 2:12:18Speaker 3: combined with carbon arc lamps. Wow. Let's see what else
- 2:12:23Speaker 3: we had. It says the Doppler effect, the swinging effect,
- 2:12:27Speaker 3: when they would swing the lightsaber, would play a combined
- 2:12:30Speaker 3: sound through a speaker and recorded it with a microphone
- 2:12:33Speaker 3: while physically swinging the mic. pass the speaker to create
- 2:12:36Speaker 3: that shifting sound. Like that. And then when you buy
- 2:12:40Speaker 3: like the real good replicas now, they still, they do
- 2:12:43Speaker 3: that now. Do they really? Yeah. They have like a
- 2:12:45Speaker 3: motion sensor in the saber. So when you wave it.
- 2:12:48Speaker 3: How about the, how about the sound of Darth Vader?
- 2:12:52Speaker 3: Where do you think that came from? The guy put
- 2:12:56Speaker 3: a small microphone inside a scuba diving regulator and recorded
- 2:13:01Speaker 3: the sound of his own breathing as he inhaled and
- 2:13:03Speaker 3: exhaled through the valve.
- 2:13:06Speaker 1: Wow.
- 2:13:07Speaker 3: That's legit. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's totally right. Here's my
- 2:13:12Speaker 3: favorite fun fact about Star Wars is the guy who
- 2:13:15Speaker 3: got cast as Darth Vader, he didn't know he wasn't
- 2:13:21Speaker 3: doing the voice. Right, yeah, yeah. He had no idea.
- 2:13:23Speaker 3: So he filmed all of that movie thinking, I'm it, baby.
- 2:13:28Speaker 8: Oh, no.
- 2:13:29Speaker 3: I'm it. And then James Earl Jones comes over and
- 2:13:32Speaker 3: does it. And also, he had a choice. They had
- 2:13:34Speaker 3: two big characters they needed, Darth Vader and Chewbacca. And
- 2:13:39Speaker 3: he got to pick which one he was going to be.
- 2:13:41Speaker 3: And he goes, people will always remember the villain more.
- 2:13:44Speaker 3: I'll be Darth Vader.
- 2:13:46Speaker 6: And because it's not his voice and it's not his face,
- 2:13:50Speaker 6: he's always covered.
- 2:13:51Speaker 3: No one knew what he looked like. Every mole in
- 2:13:54Speaker 3: America had no problem. And to prove Jack's point, James
- 2:13:57Speaker 3: Earl Jones was the voice of Darth Vader. And the
- 2:14:00Speaker 3: guy who played Darth Vader... Can't remember. Yeah, I don't know.
- 2:14:08Speaker 3: Chewbacca's roar was an interesting sound. Not bad. Built by
- 2:14:13Speaker 3: mixing recorded animal sounds, primarily from bears, badgers, lions, and walruses.
- 2:14:20Speaker 3: They combined all that together to make one sound, and
- 2:14:23Speaker 3: that was Chewbacca's sound. I loved Chewbacca when I was
- 2:14:27Speaker 3: a kid. It was the coolest. Yeah, he was my
- 2:14:28Speaker 3: least favorite. Oh, I loved him. I don't know, Ian.
- 2:14:31Speaker 3: Can I tell you? I didn't really have a favorite.
- 2:14:33Speaker 3: I think maybe Han Solo was my favorite character in
- 2:14:35Speaker 3: the movie. Did he shoot first, Jim? This is very
- 2:14:38Speaker 3: important on how you answer this question. In the cantina?
- 2:14:41Speaker 3: Did Han shoot first? First. He did shoot first. Hell yeah.
- 2:14:46Speaker 3: He did. He shot first. Because the guy, he was threatened,
- 2:14:49Speaker 3: and then he shot him with that thing under the table, right?
- 2:14:51Speaker 3: And it's like that forever, right? I think so. It
- 2:14:55Speaker 3: is like that, and it will always be like that.
- 2:14:57Speaker 3: Because that's how it happened. Is that a big thing?
- 2:15:00Speaker 4: It is.
- 2:15:00Speaker 3: Oh, they went to change it. They changed Han shooting
- 2:15:04Speaker 3: first later on in the 90s to make it more
- 2:15:08Speaker 3: family friendly.
- 2:15:09Speaker 4: No!
- 2:15:10Speaker 3: And, honestly, we're walking into another topic, but Avengers just
- 2:15:14Speaker 3: did this very thing. Because of this update system that
- 2:15:19Speaker 3: we have and we're so used to it, I guess,
- 2:15:21Speaker 3: that Avengers just got re-released with more footage. to set
- 2:15:26Speaker 3: up for doomsday making a different movie to me wow
- 2:15:33Speaker 3: so they changed han shooting first so he would be
- 2:15:36Speaker 3: more for little boys.
- 2:15:37Speaker 6: And who did george lucas want for han solo before
- 2:15:40Speaker 6: george uh before harrison ford oh my god He didn't
- 2:15:45Speaker 6: want Harrison Ford because he used Harrison Ford in American Graffiti.
- 2:15:49Speaker 1: Right.
- 2:15:49Speaker 3: And he goes, I don't want to use the same
- 2:15:51Speaker 3: actors more than once. God, was it Lee Majors or
- 2:15:55Speaker 3: something like that?
- 2:15:56Speaker 6: Christopher walken oh no way oh no and it was
- 2:16:01Speaker 6: george lucas's wife said he's not sexy enough she goes
- 2:16:05Speaker 6: and so they wanted george they wanted harrison ford and
- 2:16:09Speaker 6: he was like well i used him already so what
- 2:16:11Speaker 6: they did was they hired harrison ford to be a
- 2:16:13Speaker 6: carpenter to build a door and then every time they
- 2:16:16Speaker 6: did casting they'd have harrison ford oh we'll get harrison
- 2:16:19Speaker 6: ford to read with them Until he read like 30
- 2:16:22Speaker 6: times as a character. And then it was like, oh,
- 2:16:24Speaker 6: you got to give this guy the role.
- 2:16:26Speaker 3: He was just a carpenter, right? He was a set
- 2:16:28Speaker 3: builder for years. And he did some, I think he
- 2:16:31Speaker 3: did some extra stuff on Westerns for a little bit,
- 2:16:33Speaker 3: but he was basically a set builder. Oh, wow. Chewy,
- 2:16:35Speaker 3: we're going home. Did you imagine?
- 2:16:38Speaker 1: Even as a little girl, I remember being like, ooh,
- 2:16:41Speaker 1: that's Han Solo.
- 2:16:42Speaker 6: When they realized they had to create the special effects, they,
- 2:16:45Speaker 6: you know, George Lucas, the film that really kind of
- 2:16:48Speaker 6: inspired him to do this was 2001, a space audit. Yes,
- 2:16:52Speaker 6: it was. So it's the goat. They went to this
- 2:16:55Speaker 6: guy did special effects. He's like, I did my space movie.
- 2:16:58Speaker 3: I'm done. But here's the, here's my assistant. And he
- 2:17:01Speaker 3: came over. He knew nothing.
- 2:17:02Speaker 6: They, they, they didn't have that many effects like, they
- 2:17:07Speaker 6: needed for star Wars in 2001. So they kind of
- 2:17:10Speaker 6: had to kind of figure out and make up everything.
- 2:17:13Speaker 6: And that's when they created ILM industrial light magic.
- 2:17:16Speaker 3: I was about to say that very thing. I think
- 2:17:17Speaker 3: that's what came of that. Right.
- 2:17:18Speaker 6: But what happened, they were kind of unsupervised because they
- 2:17:21Speaker 6: were out filming in Tunisia and these guys are trying
- 2:17:23Speaker 6: to figure out the special effects and they're spending all
- 2:17:26Speaker 6: this money. And finally the studio goes and they get there.
- 2:17:29Speaker 6: They have this giant pool outside and they have an airline, uh, uh,
- 2:17:33Speaker 6: escape slide that goes into the pool that yet from
- 2:17:36Speaker 6: the top of the roof that goes into the pool.
- 2:17:39Speaker 6: And it's like, they were taking a few breaks and
- 2:17:41Speaker 6: kind of having a lot of fun.
- 2:17:43Speaker 11: Oh yeah.
- 2:17:43Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:17:44Speaker 3: And then the executive show up.
- 2:17:45Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:17:46Speaker 3: And then what the hell is going on here? We're
- 2:17:48Speaker 3: behind budget. Who was going to do Darth Vader's voice before, uh,
- 2:17:52Speaker 3: who was, who else was considered Hollywood legend, uh, director and, uh, actor. Miranda,
- 2:18:00Speaker 3: I don't know. Orson Welles.
- 2:18:03Speaker 1: No way.
- 2:18:04Speaker 3: Orson Welles was considered for the voice of Darth Vader.
- 2:18:06Speaker 1: Oh, well, yeah, no, that could work.
- 2:18:08Speaker 3: Maybe Citizen Kane really is the greatest. Do you know
- 2:18:11Speaker 3: who was Mark Hamill's roommate? And the guy, the roommate,
- 2:18:17Speaker 3: went to read for this movie for Star Wars, came
- 2:18:20Speaker 3: back to the apartment, and the guy said, how'd it go?
- 2:18:23Speaker 3: And he goes, I don't know, man. This is not
- 2:18:25Speaker 3: my thing. But I got to tell you, I think
- 2:18:26Speaker 3: this part would be perfect for you.
- 2:18:29Speaker 1: It's not Tommy Lee Jones, but it's another famous actor,
- 2:18:32Speaker 1: isn't it?
- 2:18:33Speaker 3: So the actor, the roommate, was Mark Hamill. The guy
- 2:18:35Speaker 3: who went on the original audition and told Mark Hamill
- 2:18:39Speaker 3: he should go audition for the movie was Robert England.
- 2:18:41Speaker 14: Wow.
- 2:18:43Speaker 3: Freddy Krueger. Yeah. Yeah, they were roommates in Hollywood. Oh, wow.
- 2:18:47Speaker 3: Another thing is that Harrison Ford has said this so
- 2:18:50Speaker 3: many times in interviews. All of them have said this
- 2:18:53Speaker 3: same sentiment in an interview once or twice, that when
- 2:18:55Speaker 3: they were filming, they had no idea. Yeah, they had
- 2:18:58Speaker 3: no clue what was going on. They were like, I
- 2:18:59Speaker 3: don't know why this guy is in a big dog costume. Well,
- 2:19:02Speaker 3: who was it? Was it Sir Alec Guinness? Yeah. He
- 2:19:06Speaker 3: was the one that kind of told them to care. Yes, yes. Yeah,
- 2:19:09Speaker 3: he did, but if I remember right, when he read
- 2:19:11Speaker 3: the script the first time, he thought it was the
- 2:19:14Speaker 3: most ridiculous thing ever. Then he gets on set, and
- 2:19:17Speaker 3: you're right. He was the one who was like, everybody
- 2:19:18Speaker 3: was just acting like a complete douchebag, and he's like, no,
- 2:19:21Speaker 3: we got to take this serious, you know?
- 2:19:22Speaker 6: And they were shooting in England, and the cast, you
- 2:19:24Speaker 6: needed union approval to shoot past 5 p.m., and they
- 2:19:29Speaker 6: would never give it to them because, like they said,
- 2:19:32Speaker 6: they didn't even support it. Even the whole crew didn't
- 2:19:35Speaker 6: know what this movie was. They thought it was junk,
- 2:19:38Speaker 6: and they didn't. really care about it it's a wild
- 2:19:42Speaker 6: it's wild i.
- 2:19:43Speaker 3: Think there was other people that auditioned for it if
- 2:19:45Speaker 3: i remember or maybe this is an snl skit was
- 2:19:47Speaker 3: there an snl skit where it was like burt reynolds audition.
- 2:19:52Speaker 6: What what was neat about the audition process is they
- 2:19:54Speaker 6: did it for two movies because george lucas was in
- 2:19:57Speaker 6: there but he wouldn't give feedback and stuff so he
- 2:20:00Speaker 6: did it with i think it was brian de palma
- 2:20:02Speaker 6: whoever directed carrie Because they auditioned for Carrie and Star
- 2:20:07Speaker 6: Wars in the same audition.
- 2:20:08Speaker 16: No way.
- 2:20:09Speaker 6: And they would bring people in, and sometimes the actor
- 2:20:12Speaker 6: would go to one movie, and sometimes they'd go to
- 2:20:13Speaker 6: the other. William Catt came in to read for Luke Skywalker,
- 2:20:17Speaker 6: ended up in Carrie.
- 2:20:19Speaker 3: I'll be damned. How crazy. And I think enough time
- 2:20:21Speaker 3: has passed. I love Star Wars. It's one of my
- 2:20:24Speaker 3: favorite family bonding memories, one of the few ones that
- 2:20:27Speaker 3: I have with all four of us. and understanding that
- 2:20:30Speaker 3: it's a very, very special place in my heart, which
- 2:20:32Speaker 3: is why I feel comfortable and confident saying that that
- 2:20:36Speaker 3: last trilogy sucked. Okay, very good. It wasn't good. And
- 2:20:39Speaker 3: I'll fight anybody. Why'd you bring back Palpatine? That's really
- 2:20:42Speaker 3: bad writing. That's those ex machina writing. It came out
- 2:20:45Speaker 3: of nowhere. You didn't plant that seed in seven or eight.
- 2:20:48Speaker 3: Hold me back. Sorry. Okay. In early drafts of the screenplay,
- 2:20:51Speaker 3: Yoda's name was not Yoda. And his full name isn't Yoda.
- 2:20:55Speaker 3: What was Yoda's original name in the original script? Yoda
- 2:20:58Speaker 3: Jenkins III. Buffy.
- 2:21:03Speaker 1: As in Vampire Slayer.
- 2:21:04Speaker 3: And his full name isn't Yoda. There's a term. He
- 2:21:07Speaker 3: has no last name, but his full name is Minch Yoda. Oh,
- 2:21:11Speaker 3: he's a Minch. Yeah, he's a Minch.
- 2:21:13Speaker 1: Oh.
- 2:21:14Speaker 3: How about that, dude? It's also cool, just Yoda is
- 2:21:17Speaker 3: such a badass. There's so many great quotes in Star Wars.
- 2:21:20Speaker 3: Do not try, only do. You know what? I need
- 2:21:22Speaker 3: to watch the original again. I haven't seen the original
- 2:21:25Speaker 3: in probably 20 years, buddy. You need to watch Rogue One.
- 2:21:28Speaker 3: Rogue One is great. I've not seen one frame of
- 2:21:32Speaker 3: any of the new ones. I think it's the best
- 2:21:34Speaker 3: Star Wars film from start to finish. Better than the original?
- 2:21:37Speaker 3: I would put Rogue One up there. I loved it.
- 2:21:39Speaker 3: But what's cool is there's a series called Andor. right? Okay.
- 2:21:44Speaker 6: And it's, they did two seasons and it's good. You
- 2:21:47Speaker 6: watch those two and that leads right into what Rogue
- 2:21:50Speaker 6: One is. And Rogue One goes right into what A
- 2:21:52Speaker 6: New Hope is.
- 2:21:53Speaker 1: Uh-huh.
- 2:21:53Speaker 3: And A New Hope is the original movie from 1977.
- 2:21:56Speaker 3: I'll be there. It's the prequel. Yeah. To the first
- 2:22:00Speaker 3: Star Wars film. Yeah. And that's a big set of
- 2:22:03Speaker 3: shoes to fill and they pull it off flawlessly. The, um, uh,
- 2:22:06Speaker 3: the Sir Alec Guinness thing is even funnier than I thought. Um,
- 2:22:11Speaker 3: Guinness would only work on the movie under strict conditions.
- 2:22:14Speaker 3: He would only work one day, but he would start
- 2:22:16Speaker 3: at 8.30 a.m. and be done by 1 p.m. and
- 2:22:19Speaker 3: would have to be paid one quarter of 1% of
- 2:22:22Speaker 3: the movie's total gross. It was only four and a
- 2:22:25Speaker 3: half hours of work, but he made millions of dollars
- 2:22:29Speaker 3: because of the deal. Because Mark Hamill only made $ 1, 000
- 2:22:32Speaker 3: a day making this movie. Because he made a points deal,
- 2:22:36Speaker 3: he made way more money. He was in the movie
- 2:22:38Speaker 3: way less. Was Guinness a draw?
- 2:22:41Speaker 6: He was the name, and the studio wanted, they said,
- 2:22:45Speaker 6: someone with a big name.
- 2:22:47Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah. And he's the only name, right? Carrie Fisher,
- 2:22:50Speaker 3: I don't even think was a popular, I don't think
- 2:22:52Speaker 3: she'd done a whole lot at that point, right? No,
- 2:22:54Speaker 3: she had parents who were famous. Yeah, yeah, but she
- 2:22:56Speaker 3: wasn't famous. Like, nobody in this movie was famous. Like,
- 2:23:00Speaker 3: nobody in this movie was famous. I remember when it
- 2:23:01Speaker 3: came out as a kid, we didn't know anybody. That
- 2:23:04Speaker 3: was the years of, like, Burt Reynolds and Tom Selleck and,
- 2:23:06Speaker 3: you know, all those stars in the 70s, and none
- 2:23:09Speaker 3: of those people were in this movie. Nobody had heard
- 2:23:12Speaker 3: of Harrison Ford. Nobody had heard of Mark Hamill. I
- 2:23:15Speaker 3: also look at Star Wars as just like so much
- 2:23:17Speaker 3: more than a movie. I look at it as American history.
- 2:23:20Speaker 3: It is the formula that got cracked from George Lucas
- 2:23:23Speaker 3: and his wife that all of a sudden every movie
- 2:23:27Speaker 3: started to follow suit. I will tell you something crazy, though,
- 2:23:29Speaker 3: and we're going to get to the news here in
- 2:23:30Speaker 3: a second. Deb, did you have a Star Wars experience,
- 2:23:31Speaker 3: by the way, or are you into this at all?
- 2:23:33Speaker 3: When I was a kid, yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, God,
- 2:23:36Speaker 3: I totally forgot what I was going to say. She's
- 2:23:38Speaker 3: so fancy. Yeah, grow it. Whatever. You don't know Grow Yoda.
- 2:23:41Speaker 3: He's timeless. Yeah, I totally forgot what I was going
- 2:23:43Speaker 3: to say. Deb, let's do You Heard It Here first.
- 2:23:44Speaker 3: What's coming up?
- 2:23:46Speaker 1: You're all over the place. The governor warns Isaias could
- 2:23:49Speaker 1: remain dangerous for hours. Passengers injured after severe turbulence. And
- 2:23:53Speaker 1: a man rescues a dog from drowning. I thought we'd
- 2:23:56Speaker 1: end it with a Friday feel-good story.
- 2:23:57Speaker 3: You got it, a problem.
- 2:23:58Speaker 1: We'll talk about that next during You Heard It Here first.
- 2:24:00Speaker 3: All right, let's take a little break. We'll come back
- 2:24:01Speaker 3: in a sec, get Deb's news, and get the hell
- 2:24:02Speaker 3: out of here on a Friday.
- 2:24:04Speaker 2: Jim Colbert Show.
- 2:24:09Speaker 17: Hey guys, happy day.
- 2:24:11Speaker 4: You mentioned mosquito nets and it reminded me of something
- 2:24:13Speaker 4: I saw the other day. Bill Gates' foundation sent a
- 2:24:16Speaker 4: butt ton of mosquito nets over to Africa. And in
- 2:24:19Speaker 4: this one particular village where he sent them was in
- 2:24:22Speaker 4: this fertile estuary area where fish came to breed. and
- 2:24:26Speaker 4: spawn and have little tiny baby fish. Well, these people
- 2:24:29Speaker 4: started using the mosquito nets as fishing nets. And since
- 2:24:32Speaker 4: they were so fine meshed, it decimated the breeding population
- 2:24:36Speaker 4: and wiped out an entire species of fish.
- 2:24:39Speaker 3: That's so human. Isn't it? Say it with me. Paradonitis. Paradonitis.
- 2:24:47Speaker 10: Kind of makes me think this storm might blow my
- 2:24:53Speaker 10: teeth out.
- 2:24:55Speaker 8: I do honestly believe that is why the villages exist.
- 2:25:00Speaker 8: It's because old people ain't dead yet. They still want
- 2:25:06Speaker 8: to eat the brown chicken, brown cow, you know? This
- 2:25:10Speaker 8: is why I'm going to fit in perfectly.
- 2:25:12Speaker 3: Oh, my God, dude.
- 2:25:13Speaker 15: Good afternoon, Colbert. Okay, my personal favorite fact from the
- 2:25:16Speaker 15: original Star Wars trilogy. And you know those little furry
- 2:25:20Speaker 15: guys on Endor? Well, if you go back and watch
- 2:25:22Speaker 15: the original trilogy, they never, ever say the word Ewok.
- 2:25:26Speaker 15: Don't know how they got that name still, but, you know,
- 2:25:29Speaker 15: wasn't in the movies. Wow, this is 100% right. Episodes 1, 2,
- 2:25:33Speaker 15: and 3 were very good. Episodes 7, 8, 9, complete
- 2:25:38Speaker 15: garbage and utter trash.
- 2:25:42Speaker 3: And there you go. There is the purge. Why'd they
- 2:25:48Speaker 3: bring back Palpatine? Yeah, I don't know. Are you good?
- 2:25:51Speaker 3: It's fine. Five minutes for your keyword, which is bills, B-I-L-L-S.
- 2:25:56Speaker 3: Go to realradio.fm and send that away for your chance
- 2:25:58Speaker 3: at $ 1, 000. Deb, let's do You Heard It Here First.
- 2:26:03Speaker 2: It's time for You Heard It Here First on the
- 2:26:06Speaker 2: Jim Colbert Show.
- 2:26:07Speaker 1: All right, Governor DeSantis is telling Panhandle residents to prepare
- 2:26:11Speaker 1: for wind damage and loss of power from Hurricane Issa East,
- 2:26:14Speaker 1: which is due to make landfall late this evening. The
- 2:26:17Speaker 1: governor says Isaias appears on track to cross over land
- 2:26:20Speaker 1: east of Pensacola, and he says areas east of that
- 2:26:23Speaker 1: eye can expect a wall of water.
- 2:26:26Speaker 3: We lost him.
