- 0:09Speaker 1: You're listening to a podcast from News Talks be follow
- 0:12Speaker 1: this and our wide range of podcasts now on iHeartRadio.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Reserve Bank Governor Ana Bremen is with us after five
- 0:21Speaker 2: o'clock on that split vote. Right now, it's thirteen away
- 0:23Speaker 2: from five, and Barry soapers with us.
- 0:25Speaker 3: High Barry, Good afternoon. Here the cut of her jip,
- 0:28Speaker 3: isn't she great?
- 0:29Speaker 4: Well?
- 0:29Speaker 3: I like it because she's introduced transparency into the Reserve Bank,
- 0:35Speaker 3: although and I was thinking about it this afternoon, very
- 0:38Speaker 3: shrewd move, because it shows that the Reserve Bank doesn't
- 0:42Speaker 3: have to take everything on its own shoulders like Adrian
- 0:46Speaker 3: or did. They can sort of shift the blame a
- 0:49Speaker 3: bit around a bit, which is what they do here.
- 0:52Speaker 3: Because today's decision to keep the case rate at zero
- 0:56Speaker 3: or leave it where it was at two point twenty
- 0:59Speaker 3: five three three split the committee that makes the decision. Interestingly,
- 1:05Speaker 3: the internal members of the committee, that's those that work
- 1:09Speaker 3: at the Reserve Bank, they wanted no change, whereas the
- 1:12Speaker 3: external members they wanted the change, and it was on
- 1:15Speaker 3: a brand that had the casting vote. I really like
- 1:20Speaker 3: the transparency because it just shows that the bank is
- 1:23Speaker 3: a place where debate goes on about the economy, and
- 1:26Speaker 3: I think that's essential when you're deciding. These rates impact
- 1:30Speaker 3: on so many, so many people's lives. So the woman who,
- 1:35Speaker 3: of course has got to deal with all of this
- 1:39Speaker 3: is Nikola Willis. She's got the job to do tomorrow.
- 1:43Speaker 5: Islanders work hard for their money and they expect the
- 1:46Speaker 5: government to treat taxpayer dollars with care and discipline. Families
- 1:50Speaker 5: across the country sit around their kitchen tables every week
- 1:52Speaker 5: making difficult decisions about what they can afford and where
- 1:55Speaker 5: they need to prioritize. Government should be held to the
- 1:58Speaker 5: same standard. There is an alternative approach where governments just
- 2:01Speaker 5: spray the money gone around, borrow more and hope for
- 2:04Speaker 5: the best. But New Zealanders have seen where that leads
- 2:07Speaker 5: are inflation, interests and ultimately more pressure on households.
- 2:12Speaker 3: That's why she's got to deliver a really tough budget
- 2:16Speaker 3: I think tomorrow. I mean this is an election year.
- 2:19Speaker 3: The temptation just a few months out from an election
- 2:22Speaker 3: must be great to give away a bit. But I
- 2:25Speaker 3: think you'll see in the old traditional areas like education,
- 2:29Speaker 3: there'll be something there, although there's been so much for
- 2:33Speaker 3: education that it'll be probably lost in what has already
- 2:37Speaker 3: been announced, and I think health will be down the area,
- 2:41Speaker 3: but nothing that interesting. I wouldn't imagine.
- 2:45Speaker 2: They didn't start singing in Parliament, did they? Were they
- 2:47Speaker 2: singing in Parliament?
- 2:48Speaker 3: No, they didn't. But tomorrow is New Zealand Music Awards.
- 2:53Speaker 3: And you'll remember at last year's Music Awards, Chris Bishop,
- 2:58Speaker 3: when Sam stan Walker was performing at the Music Awards,
- 3:04Speaker 3: had a few bus He was heard saying what what
- 3:08Speaker 3: a loaded crap? He later said it was about the
- 3:12Speaker 3: tetreaty flags on display rather than the music himself itself,
- 3:17Speaker 3: but he had somebody had a gold in one of
- 3:20Speaker 3: our jones to say one of our renowned musicians, Don
- 3:24Speaker 3: mcglesh and had to go god well. Today in Parliament
- 3:28Speaker 3: in the General Debate, Bishop handed his Worst Performance award
- 3:33Speaker 3: at last year's ceremony to wait for it, Yes, Labour's
- 3:37Speaker 3: aishe Verral have listened to him and the other performer
- 3:41Speaker 3: at the Labour suer last weekend. Barbara Edmunds.
- 3:44Speaker 4: It's New Zeala Music Month and tomorrow is the New
- 3:47Speaker 4: Zeala Music Awards. I'm very happy to see the crown
- 3:51Speaker 4: of the worst New Zealand music performance of all time.
- 3:55Speaker 4: To talk to Aisha Ferral a shocker as I saying
- 3:59Speaker 4: that if it walks like a duck, it sings, in
- 4:02Speaker 4: Isha Ferl's case, like a duck, then it is a duck.
- 4:05Speaker 4: And the reality is the Labor Party ducking the tough issues.
- 4:11Speaker 4: They're ducking releasing policy, and they're ducking taking New Zealanders. Actually, seriously,
- 4:18Speaker 4: never mind little X and Billie ray Cyrus's Old Town Road?
- 4:22Speaker 2: Can suri pay? Obsessed by Mariah Carey please again for
- 4:28Speaker 2: the third week in a row, the third week in
- 4:31Speaker 2: a row.
- 4:31Speaker 4: The night before your budget.
- 4:34Speaker 3: The night before your budget.
- 4:36Speaker 2: All that the National Party has been talking about is
- 4:39Speaker 2: the Labor Party.
- 4:42Speaker 3: I would snap. By the way, that was Barbara Edmonds. Yeah,
- 4:47Speaker 3: I went back and had to listen to the song
- 4:49Speaker 3: that Aiheverra was trying to sing it. Actually it's quite
- 4:52Speaker 3: a good number.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Oh I No, she butchered it, mate.
- 4:56Speaker 3: Do you know what she resembles? Nothing like this?
- 4:59Speaker 2: She actually didn't sound like a duck. She sounded like
- 5:01Speaker 2: a goat.
- 5:03Speaker 3: She sounded exhausted. I thought she sounded like a person
- 5:07Speaker 3: who should never try and pass a note when it
- 5:10Speaker 3: comes to music.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Now you as outraged by Andy Foster absolutely routing the system.
- 5:16Speaker 3: Well he is the system is This man's the former
- 5:20Speaker 3: Wellington Mary only had one term at the mayor, but
- 5:23Speaker 3: he's as a council like all terms on council. Yeah.
- 5:28Speaker 3: So I've been around a long time, owned a house
- 5:31Speaker 3: in Corori and Wellington for twenty six years. Last year
- 5:35Speaker 3: on an MP spae you can afford it. Now went
- 5:38Speaker 3: and bought a house over in the wire Wrapper and
- 5:41Speaker 3: now's list that as his permanent home, even though when
- 5:45Speaker 3: he comes back to Wellington he lives and is no
- 5:47Speaker 3: doubt mortgage free home that he's had for that long,
- 5:52Speaker 3: lives in that and claims thirty five about thirty five
- 5:55Speaker 3: thousand dollars. Now that is routing the system. That's like me,
- 5:59Speaker 3: It's like me being a list MP in Wellington. I
- 6:02Speaker 3: had a house over at Riverstoyle Beach.
- 6:05Speaker 2: I could see clearing your batch, your house and then
- 6:09Speaker 2: I mean I will see you for what you are.
- 6:11Speaker 3: And Winston waves the big stick and tells them this
- 6:15Speaker 3: is just norm. It's got to stop. It's a name shame.
- 6:20Speaker 2: Seven away from five Very Sofa.
