- 0:39Speaker 3: Hello Hi, Chelsea.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Hi, it's just to see you today.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Hi.
- 0:44Speaker 4: Like Wise, Likewise, I have an update. Okay, this is
- 0:49Speaker 4: from our Zasha Mammott episode.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Johnsha mammet Sasha.
- 0:57Speaker 4: I know it doesn't seem like it should be because
- 0:59Speaker 4: we all said so for so long.
- 1:01Speaker 3: It's Sasha Zasha.
- 1:03Speaker 2: I just can't get anyone's names right. At least it's
- 1:06Speaker 2: like across the board, you know, right, so no one seriously,
- 1:11Speaker 2: it's kind of like pronouns.
- 1:12Speaker 1: That's how I feel about regular names.
- 1:14Speaker 2: It's like, I'm like how regular people feel about pronouns.
- 1:17Speaker 2: I'm like, I can't catch your fucking name right to
- 1:19Speaker 2: begin with, so let's just forget it.
- 1:21Speaker 3: That's why. That's why I'm here to set the record straight.
- 1:24Speaker 3: Thank you from John.
- 1:27Speaker 4: He had written in and like his mom was unsupportive
- 1:30Speaker 4: about his wedding to his husband, so he was not
- 1:32Speaker 4: sure whether to invite her, So he says, Dear Chelsea,
- 1:36Speaker 4: I ended up inviting my mother to the wedding, and
- 1:39Speaker 4: she responded a day after the deadline. Of course, during
- 1:42Speaker 4: our conversation, she made it clear that she was uncomfortable
- 1:44Speaker 4: attending the wedding and tried to blame it on the
- 1:46Speaker 4: tension between her and her brother my uncle.
- 1:49Speaker 3: Although I appreciate her.
- 1:50Speaker 4: Responding instead of ghosting, I'm sensitive to BS and would
- 1:53Speaker 4: have respected her more if she were honest about her
- 1:55Speaker 4: feelings toward LGBTQ relationships. Nonetheless, I found myself less upset
- 2:00Speaker 4: about her absence, and ultimately chose to focus on the
- 2:03Speaker 4: happiness of my soon to be husband current Groomzilla and
- 2:07Speaker 4: to give my energy to those who have supported our relationship.
- 2:09Speaker 4: And will be in attendance. We're both excited to be
- 2:12Speaker 4: tying the not soon. Thank you both for taking the
- 2:14Speaker 4: time to meet with me during a time of confusion
- 2:16Speaker 4: and hurt. It was greatly appreciated warmly, John.
- 2:20Speaker 2: That's nice. I had an interesting conversation the other night
- 2:22Speaker 2: at a dinner. Yeah and yeah, we were talking about
- 2:25Speaker 2: you know, I was talking to two lesbians.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Well, no, they're not lesbians.
- 2:29Speaker 2: So just like one woman had been is with her
- 2:34Speaker 2: partner who it's like the first woman she's ever been
- 2:38Speaker 2: with and she'd only dated men before.
- 2:40Speaker 1: But she they're married now too, they have twins, and.
- 2:43Speaker 2: She was talking about like it was just such an
- 2:46Speaker 2: interesting conversation because like in twenty years from now, like
- 2:48Speaker 2: no one's going to have to come out right, you know,
- 2:51Speaker 2: it's like, oh, you're dating a boy this week, or
- 2:52Speaker 2: you're dating a girl this week, or you only like
- 2:54Speaker 2: girls or you only like boys, Like you don't have
- 2:56Speaker 2: to come out and say anything. Because she was talking
- 2:58Speaker 2: about how when she realized she was in love with
- 3:02Speaker 2: her partner a woman, she was like, Okay, wait a second,
- 3:06Speaker 2: what do I do here? I have to tackle lesbian
- 3:10Speaker 2: sex like I've never done that, and that seems like
- 3:14Speaker 2: a challenge. And then she goes, and then I thought
- 3:16Speaker 2: back to when I was a little girl and people
- 3:18Speaker 2: told me that I was going to have to start
- 3:20Speaker 2: giving blowjobs, you know, to guys, And she goes, and
- 3:23Speaker 2: that was horrifying.
- 3:24Speaker 1: And then then you had to be good.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Not only you were going to be expected to do that,
- 3:27Speaker 2: but you were going to be expected to be good
- 3:29Speaker 2: at it.
- 3:29Speaker 1: She goes. That was awful.
- 3:31Speaker 2: And I learned how to do that, and here I
- 3:33Speaker 2: am again now having to relearn something, and I'm like, oh,
- 3:35Speaker 2: that's no problem. I have actually heard any but I've
- 3:38Speaker 2: already learned this like once, and it was a pain
- 3:40Speaker 2: in the ass. And so I was like, oh, that's
- 3:42Speaker 2: such a great way of talking about it, you know.
- 3:44Speaker 2: And also I was like, did you have to come
- 3:46Speaker 2: out as a lesbian?
- 3:46Speaker 1: She goes.
- 3:47Speaker 2: That's what I was like thinking and contemplating, Like do
- 3:50Speaker 2: I have to come out as a lesbian?
- 3:51Speaker 1: Because now I'm with a woman. It's like she's just fluid.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Yeah, right exactly, and like after a while, we won't
- 3:57Speaker 2: even be asking people those questions.
- 3:59Speaker 4: Yeah, I think, you know, for a long time, I
- 4:01Speaker 4: consider myself queer, even though I'm married to a man.
- 4:04Speaker 4: But I realize, like more lately, I'm like, I guess
- 4:07Speaker 4: I'm panned because like I don't know, I'm by trans
- 4:10Speaker 4: guys are very hot, you know. So I'm like, once
- 4:13Speaker 4: you get past like the gender.
- 4:15Speaker 3: Of it all, all the whole gay straits.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Yeah, I guess fluid as a reference more to you
- 4:19Speaker 2: your self identity, right, rather than your sexual preference.
- 4:22Speaker 3: Right.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Yeah, So I guess I hope it all goes out
- 4:24Speaker 1: the window.
- 4:25Speaker 3: Yeah. Now, okay, were they friends for a long time?
- 4:28Speaker 2: First they had built a friendship, but not for a
- 4:31Speaker 2: long extended period of time.
- 4:32Speaker 1: They met on a movie. It's I'm reading this book.
- 4:35Speaker 1: We're gonna have this guest on.
- 4:37Speaker 2: It's called This Is what Happens when Women Read, which
- 4:39Speaker 2: is a great book about this evangelical Christian woman, Juliana Glass.
- 4:43Speaker 1: And then she kind of renounces religion and she has
- 4:46Speaker 1: all this.
- 4:47Speaker 2: She starts reading books basically like Pluto and or Pluto
- 4:50Speaker 2: that's a planet.
- 4:54Speaker 1: She starts reading.
- 4:54Speaker 2: Pluto and Jupiter and Saturn, and she does the best plan.
- 5:00Speaker 1: She just gives herself a huge like Darwin.
- 5:02Speaker 2: She reads all these you know, Socrates, all of these
- 5:06Speaker 2: like philosophers and Nietzsche, and she's just starts questioning everything
- 5:12Speaker 2: in her life, of course, and is like, wait, why
- 5:13Speaker 2: is there so much hate? And I'm and then you know,
- 5:16Speaker 2: of course she ends up having sex with women too,
- 5:19Speaker 2: not only women, She's actually having sex with men and
- 5:21Speaker 2: women in this book where I am anyway, But.
- 5:23Speaker 1: It's just so funny. Many people end up yes, once
- 5:29Speaker 1: it's not our women, and we're like, yeah.
- 5:31Speaker 4: Once you get past the prerequisite of like, okay girls
- 5:34Speaker 4: nate boys, and then you're just like, wait, no, there
- 5:35Speaker 4: are no rules anymore.
- 5:37Speaker 3: A lot of people open up yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 5:41Speaker 4: Well our caller today is Jen and she says, Dear Chelsea,
- 5:45Speaker 4: this is some wedding drama.
- 5:46Speaker 3: I love wedding drama.
- 5:48Speaker 4: I genuinely can't tell if my husband and I are
- 5:50Speaker 4: being reasonable millennials or selfish assholes.
- 5:53Speaker 3: Here's the situation.
- 5:54Speaker 4: My husband's aunt is getting married this summer in Belize
- 5:57Speaker 4: over a holiday weekend. Important context, she was incredibly generous
- 6:01Speaker 4: during our wedding and twenty twenty four she helped pay
- 6:04Speaker 4: for our invitations and give us money toward wedding expenses.
- 6:07Speaker 4: We're genuinely grateful for everything she did for us. Now
- 6:09Speaker 4: Here's where I'm conflicted.
- 6:11Speaker 3: She is someone who.
- 6:12Speaker 4: Loves to talk shit lovingly, but still about big, elaborate weddings,
- 6:15Speaker 4: expensive parties, and over the top celebrations. So when she
- 6:18Speaker 4: announced a destination wedding on a holiday, I had to
- 6:22Speaker 4: laugh a little internally, because, ma'am the irony. My husband
- 6:25Speaker 4: and I are millennials who just bought our first home
- 6:27Speaker 4: last August with zero financial help from anyone. As you
- 6:30Speaker 4: can imagine, buying a house in this economy has humbled
- 6:32Speaker 4: us deeply. Every extra dollar seems to go towards something breaking, repairs, furniture,
- 6:37Speaker 4: or just surviving homeownership. You know about that, Chelsea, my husband.
- 6:41Speaker 2: I mean, I don't think we should compare my situation
- 6:44Speaker 2: to anyone calling in.
- 6:45Speaker 1: That's not realistic, just lots of expenses. I just don't
- 6:49Speaker 1: want any more shit from anyone.
- 6:51Speaker 4: Okay, we'll just never bring it up again, just like
- 6:53Speaker 4: if we don't talk about it, nothing bad will happen. Yeah,
- 6:56Speaker 4: my husband originally wanted to go to her wedding because
- 6:59Speaker 4: he feels guilty not showing up. But now with that
- 7:01Speaker 4: we've looked at logistics, the trip feels kind of insane.
- 7:04Speaker 4: Flights are like eight hundred dollars per person because of
- 7:06Speaker 4: holiday and somehow getting to Believe from New York is
- 7:09Speaker 4: turning into a twenty eight hour travel experience with multiple layovers.
- 7:13Speaker 4: We're talking expensive, exhausting, and honestly stressful. So my question
- 7:17Speaker 4: is are we wrong for not going? Are we wrong
- 7:19Speaker 4: for not even trying to have my husband go solo,
- 7:22Speaker 4: especially considering everything she did for us for our wedding.
- 7:25Speaker 3: And if we don't go, what's the classy way to
- 7:27Speaker 3: make up for it?
- 7:27Speaker 4: Or are we supposed to suck it up, swipe the
- 7:29Speaker 4: credit card and show face because family obligation wins signed
- 7:32Speaker 4: a guilty millennial jen.
- 7:35Speaker 1: Hi, Hi, you're so cute.
- 7:39Speaker 5: Thank you you too, Love.
- 7:41Speaker 1: All our listeners are so cute. It's such a compliment
- 7:44Speaker 1: some unity.
- 7:44Speaker 3: It's calling in.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Yeah, I think you have to go to that wedding
- 7:48Speaker 1: you think so? Yes, this woman.
- 7:50Speaker 2: Helped her with her own wedding, and like, I understand
- 7:54Speaker 2: the expenses, but is there anyone else you can team
- 7:56Speaker 2: up with to share at least a house or something
- 8:00Speaker 2: inexpensive like another couple or something that can help you
- 8:03Speaker 2: save some costs.
- 8:05Speaker 6: So that was the plan, but no one is going,
- 8:07Speaker 6: even her own daughters aren't going because of how not
- 8:10Speaker 6: only is it expensive Chelsea, but like the flight to
- 8:13Speaker 6: get through twenty eight hours.
- 8:15Speaker 1: To believe believe from where from.
- 8:19Speaker 6: New York because the only day where there's a direct
- 8:22Speaker 6: flight it's on the day of her wedding.
- 8:24Speaker 1: That no, twenty eight hours.
- 8:28Speaker 6: Yeah, so her own daughters aren't going, And we were
- 8:30Speaker 6: going to share a house initially to like cut the costs,
- 8:33Speaker 6: but once they told me that they weren't going, we
- 8:36Speaker 6: were likeugh.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Does she have you spoken to her?
- 8:41Speaker 5: I have not.
- 8:42Speaker 3: No, Okay, what if let me just throw this out there.
- 8:45Speaker 4: What if you guys host a little like cake and
- 8:48Speaker 4: ice cream homecoming party for them at your beautiful house
- 8:53Speaker 4: when they get back?
- 8:55Speaker 2: Well, I mean that's okay, but like you guys live
- 8:58Speaker 2: in the same city.
- 8:59Speaker 5: She's moving, and she's moving back to New York.
- 9:02Speaker 1: And where do you live? You live in New York.
- 9:03Speaker 5: When you're the Emma West Orange.
- 9:05Speaker 1: That's why I write by my family. I think you
- 9:07Speaker 1: should be very honest with her first of all.
- 9:09Speaker 2: And just like if so, you can't. You don't have
- 9:12Speaker 2: the option of flying direct, Is that right?
- 9:15Speaker 1: Okay? So you don't have the option of flying direct?
- 9:17Speaker 2: It's a twenty eight hour flight there three weekend for
- 9:21Speaker 2: a three day weekend. That's not that's that in itself
- 9:24Speaker 2: is a reason tonight. I didn't realize that part and
- 9:27Speaker 2: then the cost. I think you should call her though,
- 9:29Speaker 2: and talk to her, just be like, you really wanted
- 9:32Speaker 2: to make this happen because of everything she's done for you,
- 9:36Speaker 2: and it's really important for you to that you really
- 9:39Speaker 2: wanted to be there, but you're finding it unmanageable. And
- 9:43Speaker 2: maybe she's getting married and belize because she doesn't fucking
- 9:46Speaker 2: want anybody to come true.
- 9:48Speaker 5: I was thinking, that's what I was thinking.
- 9:52Speaker 2: But I think, just like front load it, yeah, don't like,
- 9:55Speaker 2: get get ahead of it and just be really honest
- 9:58Speaker 2: and upfront and tell her what the deal is and
- 10:01Speaker 2: just say, is there any way we can celebrate when
- 10:03Speaker 2: you come back, Like, don't get into all the just say,
- 10:05Speaker 2: don't get into all the financial issues, get into the
- 10:09Speaker 2: flight duration. And also you know now that we're not
- 10:13Speaker 2: able to share a house with anybody. We're pretty strapped financially,
- 10:16Speaker 2: even though we were going to just try to make
- 10:18Speaker 2: it work even so, but it's just becoming obvious that
- 10:22Speaker 2: it's not going to be manageable, and we wanted to
- 10:25Speaker 2: just like touch base with you on this before and
- 10:27Speaker 2: let you know, and just do that and see how
- 10:30Speaker 2: her response is.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Hopefully she'll be really understanding.
- 10:32Speaker 2: And if she's upset, then I think you should just
- 10:36Speaker 2: go back to her and say, like, let's figure out
- 10:38Speaker 2: a way to make this. Let's have a celebration for
- 10:41Speaker 2: all the people that couldn't be there when you come
- 10:43Speaker 2: home that you'd be willing to host in your new house.
- 10:47Speaker 6: I do want to do something for her. God, really,
- 10:49Speaker 6: that's a good idea, because I do want to do
- 10:51Speaker 6: something for her.
- 10:52Speaker 5: I feel bad.
- 10:52Speaker 2: Twenty eight hours of flying doesn't make any sense for anything, really,
- 10:56Speaker 2: I mean unless you're going to for two weeks twenty
- 10:58Speaker 2: eight hours, like no, that's not right.
- 11:00Speaker 6: You're going to like Asia right like or I don't know,
- 11:03Speaker 6: but now for three days, and also like over five
- 11:06Speaker 6: thousand dollars yeah right, right, yeah.
- 11:09Speaker 4: I also think if she knew that you guys needed
- 11:12Speaker 4: a little help with your wedding, she probably knows you
- 11:15Speaker 4: know that that might be too expensive. So I think
- 11:18Speaker 4: Chelsea's exactly right, like frontload this talk.
- 11:20Speaker 2: To her and also just set as a reminder when
- 11:22Speaker 2: you're writing that email. Send it in an email so
- 11:25Speaker 2: she can read it a couple times before she responds.
- 11:27Speaker 2: If she does, if she does have like a reaction
- 11:29Speaker 2: that's angry or mad or anything, but that usually calms
- 11:33Speaker 2: people down.
- 11:33Speaker 1: I think rereading stuff.
- 11:35Speaker 2: But and then you can write at the end, reread
- 11:38Speaker 2: this twice before responding no. But you can also say
- 11:41Speaker 2: to her acknowledge everything that she did, you know, for
- 11:45Speaker 2: you guys, at the top of the letter or within the.
- 11:48Speaker 1: Body of the letter.
- 11:49Speaker 2: At some point, just acknowledge everything she's done so that
- 11:52Speaker 2: she doesn't if she's the type of person that would
- 11:55Speaker 2: want to respond with like how could you? But do
- 11:58Speaker 2: you know how she responded to her daughter's not coming.
- 12:01Speaker 5: I think one word like noted.
- 12:06Speaker 1: Okay, So so approach it a little bit more, you know, softly.
- 12:10Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I wanted to acknowledge that her help.
- 12:12Speaker 6: I want to acknowledge she's been very very nice to
- 12:14Speaker 6: me since I started like dating my husband, Like, she's
- 12:17Speaker 6: been so nice. So that's why I feel bad, And
- 12:20Speaker 6: I was trying to figure out, like what can I do?
- 12:21Speaker 6: But I like the idea of writing something instead of
- 12:24Speaker 6: like anyway, just like give her some time. Yes, absolutely, Yeah,
- 12:29Speaker 6: that's great. Okay, thank you, okay, better, good good, all right,
- 12:36Speaker 6: take care.
- 12:37Speaker 5: Thank you you too, bye bye.
- 12:40Speaker 1: You lost me at fucking twenty eight hours. Can you
- 12:43Speaker 1: imagine how many of the money overs there?
- 12:46Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 12:47Speaker 3: Yeah, no, I agree.
- 12:52Speaker 1: I bought new earrings with my sissies. We went to
- 12:54Speaker 1: Sedona for the weekend and I bought these pretty thank you.
- 12:58Speaker 2: They go all the way up my ears, so so like,
- 13:00Speaker 2: I don't think I can sleep in them, which is
- 13:02Speaker 2: why I have earrings like light earrings, so I can
- 13:04Speaker 2: always sleep in them, because it's like I'm just gonna
- 13:07Speaker 2: lose these.
- 13:08Speaker 3: They have a flat back in case you.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I do.
- 13:11Speaker 2: Oh that's nice, Yeah I do. I need to just
- 13:13Speaker 2: get earrings tattooed into my ears. That's my new thing, tattoos.
- 13:17Speaker 2: After I got my eyebrows tattooed, I'm like, all right,
- 13:19Speaker 2: what else can I fucking tattoo?
- 13:20Speaker 1: And yeah, exactly.
- 13:23Speaker 3: Would you get like a tattoo?
- 13:24Speaker 1: Tattoo?
- 13:24Speaker 2: No, I don't care about tattoos. But my niece just
- 13:26Speaker 2: got one, Seneca. I found out my sister told us
- 13:29Speaker 2: she got one of the three girls when we went
- 13:30Speaker 2: to Africa, the three nieces they got. There's a picture
- 13:33Speaker 2: of them like kind of dancing, and she got that,
- 13:36Speaker 2: which is really cute.
- 13:37Speaker 3: Oh, I like that.
- 13:38Speaker 4: I like it when they have like a really nice
- 13:39Speaker 4: meaning or yeah, cousins.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I love that.
- 13:42Speaker 3: That's really sweet.
- 13:43Speaker 1: Well.
- 13:44Speaker 4: Our last little question for today is from Sarah. She says,
- 13:48Speaker 4: I started talking with a guy on Hinge who has
- 13:50Speaker 4: long term relationship on his profile. After chatting, it seems
- 13:54Speaker 4: like he's really only interested in hooking up, and essentially
- 13:56Speaker 4: admitted as much to me. He said he only puts
- 13:59Speaker 4: long relationship on his profile to up his chances of
- 14:02Speaker 4: meeting up with someone. To be honest, I had been
- 14:05Speaker 4: interested in just hooking up with him, but the bait
- 14:07Speaker 4: and switch has me leary. Should I meet up with
- 14:09Speaker 4: him and see if we have chemistry or skip it
- 14:11Speaker 4: and move on?
- 14:11Speaker 2: Sarah, I always think that's a bad you know, if
- 14:14Speaker 2: you're not representing yourself fully and honestly.
- 14:16Speaker 1: I would stay away from that person.
- 14:17Speaker 3: Yeah, the bait and switch gives me the eck.
- 14:19Speaker 2: I don't like back and forth with when when there's
- 14:22Speaker 2: relationship drama, I don't at this stage in my life.
- 14:25Speaker 1: I don't have time for that.
- 14:26Speaker 2: Yeah, if there's like a lot of back and forth
- 14:28Speaker 2: and like you're saying one thing and you're doing another.
- 14:30Speaker 1: Then you get like two tries, right, and that's it.
- 14:33Speaker 2: And I think for that, like, yeah, if you want
- 14:35Speaker 2: to hook up with him and you're yeah, I don't
- 14:37Speaker 2: respect that.
- 14:38Speaker 1: And actually, you know what, as a woman.
- 14:40Speaker 2: Just for the other women that he comes into contact with,
- 14:45Speaker 2: like it would be because it could go either way.
- 14:47Speaker 2: He could all of a sudden be like, oh, I'm
- 14:48Speaker 2: never telling them that I'm only into hooking up, or
- 14:50Speaker 2: he could be even more honest on his profile so
- 14:52Speaker 2: that he's not catching women that are looking for something more.
- 14:55Speaker 4: That's the thing is, like there are plenty of women
- 14:57Speaker 4: who are just interested.
- 14:58Speaker 1: I'm one of them, one of those people.
- 15:01Speaker 4: Hello, she's right here, So just put that on your profile, Okay, Sarah.
- 15:06Speaker 4: So I think we're saying skip it, don't keep it. Yeah, skip,

- 15:10Speaker 2: When men act honestly, then we can reward them. When
- 15:12Speaker 2: they're dishonest, and what's the point. Then you're just setting
- 15:15Speaker 2: up a pattern of behavior where they're dishonest and they
- 15:17Speaker 2: get away with that.
- 15:18Speaker 3: You know what we need?
- 15:18Speaker 4: We need an app where women can like report them
- 15:22Speaker 4: and like search by their photos.
- 15:24Speaker 1: Well, I put up my first batch of.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Straight women on my little series, my dating series on
- 15:28Speaker 2: Instagram this week. So I'm waiting to hear because I
- 15:30Speaker 2: was very loath to do that because of the way
- 15:32Speaker 2: men behave, you know, and because I don't know how,
- 15:35Speaker 2: you know, how many straight male followers I actually have,
- 15:39Speaker 2: so I wanted to like see how they act with
- 15:42Speaker 2: you know, with that, And so I'm waiting to hear
- 15:44Speaker 2: some feedback from these women to see what kind of
- 15:46Speaker 2: men have approached them and if they're being respectful, because
- 15:49Speaker 2: there's so many straight women in my dms that I
- 15:51Speaker 2: really want to like help them find men, But I
- 15:54Speaker 2: don't know. I'm definitely the place to find women and
- 15:59Speaker 2: straight straight women, gay women and gay men. Yeah, I
- 16:02Speaker 2: don't know if I'm the place to find straight men, right.
- 16:06Speaker 2: All Right, you have it well for this, Okay, bye bye,
