- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30So we're talking about meditation today.
- 0:33And the reason we're talking about this is because, you know,
- 0:36you've noticed the past couple days we've been talking about a
- 0:38spiritual based dialogue here. I don't want to put it into
- 0:44something that we're trying to create it into being something
- 0:46bigger than it is, but it's just a more spiritual based dialogue
- 0:49this week and or at least it has been.
- 0:52Who knows if I'll continue it. I kind of am spontaneous with
- 0:55these, but today we're talking about meditation.
- 0:58And the reason that we're talking about meditation is
- 1:01because for many people, that is not just a a small part of their
- 1:06life. It's a big spiritual part of it.
- 1:08It's the way they tap into what their version of God, the
- 1:12universe, however you want to label it, is, and they meditate
- 1:15to tap into it. And I do not think that that is
- 1:19a bad thing at all. I think if that's, if that's
- 1:23what you are attempting to do with it, then I say it's a
- 1:27really good thing to go and try. I have.
- 1:31And then the reason I'm framing it that way is because I don't
- 1:34love meditating. I'm going to be the first one to
- 1:36tell you I find it to be really hard in the traditional manner
- 1:40of meditating. So if someone said to me, do you
- 1:43sit down? Do you close your eyes?
- 1:45Do you do this? Sure.
- 1:46I've tried it many, many, many times and still continue to try
- 1:49it. Do I really tap into it?
- 1:53Do I really love it? It's really hard for me because
- 1:57the moment I slow down my brain kicks into gear and I know
- 2:01that's the whole point of meditation.
- 2:03For those of you who will send me a message and say that's that
- 2:06is the point of it. You work to slow your brain
- 2:08down, Yes, I understand. But for some quirky reason mine
- 2:13doesn't work well under those conditions to slow down.
- 2:16Mine does much better when I am in the midst of doing other
- 2:21things. My meditative practice comes in
- 2:25for me when I am making art or I'm gardening or I'm just
- 2:31sitting out with my chickens and watching them.
- 2:33I go into a zone where I'm I lose track of time.
- 2:37There are no thoughts in my head.
- 2:39I'm just watching them and being very present with them and it
- 2:42becomes that meditative process for me.
- 2:45And I didn't really realize that for a very long time.
- 2:48I spent a good chunk of time judging myself from my inability
- 2:52to be able to sit like my friends were.
- 2:54Because you know, when you run in a circle of the people that I
- 2:57run in in, in the professional world, the coaches and you know,
- 3:01everybody that I worked with for many years at Tony Robbins, they
- 3:05have these intense practices, whether it's physical, their
- 3:08workouts, that spiritual, I mean, they shoot for the moon
- 3:13and I love that. I love being in that.
- 3:15But some of them with their spiritual practices and
- 3:17meditative practices, Oy, it was, I felt very inadequate with
- 3:22it because I, I couldn't catch it.
- 3:25It, it was, it reminded me of like, you know, if any of you
- 3:28remember those pictures that you used to be able to look at and
- 3:32it was just, it looked like a bunch of chaos on the picture,
- 3:35just as weird graphic. And when you focus your eyes a
- 3:37certain way, you could see the hidden picture.
- 3:40And I always struggled with those me, the hyper visual girl
- 3:44couldn't see it. And it took me a long time to
- 3:48cultivate something that I could use in my eyes and say, OK, yes,
- 3:52I can shift and, and actually see something.
- 3:54And it's, and to this day, it's still not something that I can
- 3:58just walk up and do. If I see one of them.
- 4:00I have to really get into this weird headspace to, to shift my
- 4:04brain to see it that way. And it, and it just reminds me
- 4:08of that where I would get so super frustrated when I couldn't
- 4:12do it. And I would have all of these
- 4:14reactions to it. And they were all like, oh,
- 4:17yeah, it's so easy. It's so easy.
- 4:19And I just couldn't. And I had to find a different
- 4:21way to do it. And it's the same with this.
- 4:25So there is no right way. There is no wrong way.
- 4:28There's just a way of saying, OK, if I'm going to work on a
- 4:33practice like this in my life and I'm going to own this
- 4:38practice of meditation, I have to be open to the different ways
- 4:42it shows up for me. So yes, develop a spiritual
- 4:46practice, but recognize that it doesn't have to be the way
- 4:50everybody else tells you it has to be.
- 4:52It just has to be the way that it's right for you.
- 4:55I mean, I certainly can't tell you that there's ever any way
- 4:59that it's, you know, like that I could sit down and scribble on a
- 5:02piece of paper and have more luck being in a meditative state
- 5:05than I do sometimes sitting there trying to force myself to
- 5:09be able to do it with the overall, you know, standard
- 5:14sitting there. Now I will say this, I do like
- 5:17using have having a video that I can sit and it plays in the
- 5:24background. So I say video, but it's just
- 5:25sound. It's monks, literally monks
- 5:29chanting. And it's this part of this
- 5:33Nietzsche Ren Buddhism. And they have these monks that
- 5:37chant and you can listen to the chants.
- 5:39And that will work for me, but not all the time.
- 5:42I have to sometimes try different things.
- 5:45So don't be so rigid with yourself.
- 5:47Be patient, try it, but just develop something.
- 5:50So practice that meditative state where you can disconnect
- 5:54from things and tap into something else because it's
- 5:57hugely helpful. All right, my friends, I will
- 6:00see you tomorrow. Bye.
