Podcasthero.com. Welcome to The Daily Quote, the
• 0:06
podcast designed to kick start your day in a positive way.
• 0:11
I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and let's dive into today's
• 0:14
quote from Albert Hubbard, who once said do not take life too
• 0:20
seriously. You'll never get out of it
• 0:23
  alive. Read that again.
• 0:28
You'll never get out of it alive.
• 0:31
That's the punchline, but it's also the truth.
• 0:36
Hubbard's making a darkly humorous point.
• 0:40
No matter how seriously you take your life, no matter how
• 0:43
stressed you get, no matter how much you worry and control and
• 0:48
obsess, the ending is the same for everyone.
• 0:53
So why are you making yourself miserable in the middle?
• 0:57
Taking life seriously has its place.
• 1:00
Your work matters, your relationships matter, and your
• 1:04
goals matter. But taking life too seriously?
• 1:09
  That's when you lose perspective.
• 1:12
That's when you forget that none of this is permanent, that
• 1:15
mistakes aren't usually fatal, that embarrassment fades, that
• 1:20
most of what you're stressed out about won't even matter in a
• 1:24
year. We treat temporary problems like
• 1:27
permanent catastrophes. We agonize over things that
• 1:32
won't matter next month. We let small failures ruin
• 1:35
  entire days. And for what?
• 1:40
You're not getting out of this alive anyways.
• 1:43
None of us are. Hubbard isn't saying nothing
• 1:46
matters. He's saying lighten up, laugh
• 1:49
more and take risks, make mistakes and embarrass yourself.
• 1:55
Try the thing that might not work because the worst case
• 1:59
scenario isn't that serious. You're mortal either way, might
• 2:04
as well enjoy the ride. So here's the question.
• 2:08
What are you taking too seriously right now?
• 2:11
What temporary problem are you treating like a permanent
• 2:15
catastrophe? Because you're not getting out
• 2:18
of this alive, None of us are. So you might as well lighten up
• 2:23
and enjoy it while you're here. That's it for today.
• 2:27
I'm Andrew McGivern, signing off for now, but I'll be back
• 2:32
tomorrow. Same pod time, same pod station
• 2:38
  with another daily quote.
