Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: I'm Ron Verb, and I'll be bringing the heat every
- 0:02Speaker 1: afternoon at 3 on 570 WKBN.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Hunter Gattis coming on. Worked in last night's game, 50th appearance.
- 0:14Speaker 2: A win, three losses to save, 24 holds. 346 ERA,
- 0:19Speaker 2: fastball slider changeup. Eric Sabrowski, another sharp outing. He had
- 0:28Speaker 2: a 1-2-3 inning with a strikeout. Tim Heron wiped out
- 0:31Speaker 2: the one guy he faced. Gavin Williams, superb again. 11
- 0:37Speaker 2: strikeouts in 5-2-3. Cleveland 4, San Fran 2, 8th inning.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Raphael Devers takes up and away, ball 1. Now the
- 0:55Speaker 2: 1-0 pitch. And it's swung on, fouled upstairs, one-on-one to count.
- 1:02Speaker 2: I know Devers isn't having a great year. Their lineup
- 1:06Speaker 2: looked like without him.
- 1:08Speaker 3: That's what I say. I know they were counting on
- 1:09Speaker 3: him to kind of be that last piece to the puzzle,
- 1:12Speaker 3: but he is putting up solid numbers.
- 1:17Speaker 2: And a tough hitter's part for a lefty. The pitch,
- 1:20Speaker 2: and he socks one a mile high to right. Martinez
- 1:24Speaker 2: is back on the track. Now he's got to come
- 1:26Speaker 2: back in on the grass, and he goes back onto
- 1:28Speaker 2: the track. That was up there forever, and Rafael Devers
- 1:33Speaker 2: is stunned it didn't go out. He's still looking out
- 1:37Speaker 2: there and goes. It just got barely to the track. Well,
- 1:42Speaker 2: a strong breeze blowing in from right and right center
- 1:46Speaker 2: kept it in the yard. Here's Willie Adamas. That is
- 1:51Speaker 2: a tough ballpark, Oracle Park, for a left-handed hitter. Here's
- 1:56Speaker 2: Willie Adamas, two-run home run today. He bangs one on
- 2:00Speaker 2: the ground to third, playing deep. Ramirez, long, strong throw.
- 2:05Speaker 2: And he gets Adamas two down. You look at Oracle Park.
- 2:11Speaker 2: It is just 3-0-9 down the line. It's 4-15 to
- 2:16Speaker 2: the gap in right center.
- 2:18Speaker 4: 4-15.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Talk about disheartening for a left-handed hitter. Here's Bryce Eldridge.
- 2:29Speaker 2: One for three with a single. The pitch. Check swing down.
- 2:35Speaker 2: And because the wall is high in right field and
- 2:39Speaker 2: it's only 3-0-9 down the line, you can play way
- 2:44Speaker 2: off the line toward the gap in the right center
- 2:47Speaker 2: and that takes more hits away from left-handed hitters. Now
- 2:50Speaker 2: the 1-0 pitch. Way outside the ball, 2-0. Will be
- 2:56Speaker 2: there next year. Now the set, the 2-0 pitch. And
- 3:09Speaker 2: he got a slider in there, 2-1. Next year, Cleveland
- 3:14Speaker 2: has a three-city trip to end August. San Diego, Anaheim,
- 3:19Speaker 2: San Francisco. Now the 2-1. Waved at 2-2. Bryce Eldridge,
- 3:30Speaker 2: good-looking youngster, 1-3 today. 2 down, nobody on. Cleveland up
- 3:38Speaker 2: 4-2 in the 8th. Here's the pitch. And he just
- 3:41Speaker 2: missed outside. Tried to backdoor him with a changeup. That
- 3:45Speaker 2: had good action on it. Stayed off the plate. Full count.
- 3:49Speaker 2: And the kid didn't chase him. See why the Giants
- 3:54Speaker 2: are high on this kid. The payoff. Backed him off
- 3:58Speaker 2: the plate. He drew a walk. So with two down,
- 4:02Speaker 2: Young-Hoo Lee to the plate. Left hander batter. 0 for 3.
- 4:17Speaker 2: 4-2 Cleveland Giants. Trying to get it going with the
- 4:20Speaker 2: runner on. Two down, top of the 8th. On a
- 4:23Speaker 2: sun-drenched summer afternoon. The pitch. And it's on the outer edge.
- 4:30Speaker 2: A change-up strike. Gattis is ready. The next delivery. Swung on.
- 4:47Speaker 2: Pulled foul into the coach's box. First base side 0-2. Boy,
- 4:56Speaker 2: can the athletics get any more bad news? Jacob Wilson,
- 5:00Speaker 2: their tremendous shortstop, headed back to the injured list, done
- 5:04Speaker 2: for the year. More shoulder problems. Boy, he's a good player.
- 5:09Speaker 2: The 0-2. Fouled back. So they've lost Wilson and Kurtz
- 5:13Speaker 2: for the year. I mean, and they've got another year
- 5:18Speaker 2: to play in a minor league ballpark.
- 5:20Speaker 5: Wow.
- 5:21Speaker 3: And it just seems it's one of those places where
- 5:24Speaker 3: They get off to a good start, but it just
- 5:26Speaker 3: wears on you by the time you get through midseason.
- 5:29Speaker 3: Now the 0-2 delivery inside. And again, remember, there's a
- 5:34Speaker 3: game every day at that park. The Giants' AAA club
- 5:38Speaker 3: calls that ballpark their home. When you're in the AAA
- 5:43Speaker 3: level and you're on your way up, there's nothing greater
- 5:46Speaker 3: than that ballpark in Sacramento. When you're in the big
- 5:49Speaker 3: leagues and you've got to play there, not as enticing.
- 5:54Speaker 3: The 1-2 delivery. Swung at ground ball. Base hit up
- 6:04Speaker 3: the middle into center. Stopping at second is Eldridge. Two out,
- 6:08Speaker 3: two on. Lee with a base hit. And Oslevis Basabi
- 6:13Speaker 3: coming to the plate. One for three with a single.
- 6:17Speaker 3: 4-2 Cleveland. Tying runs on with two down in the eighth.
- 6:24Speaker 3: And out to the mound, pitching coach Carl Willis. Yeah,
- 6:30Speaker 3: I wonder what Sacramento's going to do because.
- 6:35Speaker 2: They're 49-78. They're 23-40 at home. And there's nobody that
- 6:38Speaker 2: wants to sign a play there. Before they go to Vegas,
- 6:52Speaker 2: now you obviously, you might get some guys knowing, well,
- 6:57Speaker 2: if I can put up for one year and you
- 6:59Speaker 2: give me a five-year deal. But they've regressed this year.
- 7:05Speaker 2: A lot of it, though, due to injuries.
- 7:07Speaker 3: We were in there in late April, early May, and
- 7:09Speaker 3: it looked like a decent ball club that might be
- 7:12Speaker 3: able to hang around a bit.
- 7:14Speaker 2: Down the set in the pitch to Basabi. And he
- 7:17Speaker 2: bangs one back up the middle. Stabbed by Rocchio. Spinning
- 7:21Speaker 2: throw to first.
- 7:21Speaker 5: In the dirt.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Dug out by Lowe. Oh, what a play on both ends.
- 7:26Speaker 2: Rocchio ranging far to his left. The shortstop with a
- 7:30Speaker 2: 360 spin after the grab. One hot throw to Lowe
- 7:34Speaker 2: at first. He dug it out. Ending over 4-2 Cleveland.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Middle of the 8th.
- 7:42Speaker 6: Hey, you mind keeping it down.
- 7:43Speaker 2: Up there, please?
- 7:44Speaker 7: KeyBank will meet you in that I need new neighbors moment. Rick,
- 7:48Speaker 7: it's your mortgage loan officer, Beth.
- 7:51Speaker 4: I was in the neighborhood and wanted to let you
- 7:52Speaker 4: know your home loan application's been approved.
- 7:55Speaker 2: Beth, you're always there for me, and not a moment
- 7:57Speaker 2: too soon.
- 7:58Speaker 7: Are your neighbors bowling with grand pianos again?
- 8:01Speaker 2: And apparently raising livestock? Ew.
- 8:04Speaker 7: For every financial need, we'll meet you in the moment.
- 8:06Speaker 2: KeyBank opens doors.
- 8:08Speaker 7: Equal Housing Lender. NMLS number 399797. Hi.

- 9:06Speaker 1: that for $ 8, only at McDonald's.
- 9:09Speaker 7: Price and participation may vary.
- 9:12Speaker 3: Swung on, there's a high fly ball.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Launched to right field. Home run, Jose Ramirez.
- 9:20Speaker 3: This is Jim Rosenhouse, and you are listening to the
- 9:23Speaker 3: Cleveland Clinic Guardians Radio Network.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Hey, it's Ron Verb, and I'm taking on the stories
- 9:30Speaker 1: that actually matter after Guardians Baseball on 570 WKBN.
- 9:40Speaker 2: Jonathan Trey Brubaker. Close friends like Rosie. Call him JT.
- 9:47Speaker 2: The right-hander takes over in the bottom of the eighth.
- 9:49Speaker 2: Four to two, Cleveland. Brubaker is in the Clark County
- 9:54Speaker 2: Baseball Hall of Fame. Went to Tecumseh High School here
- 9:59Speaker 2: in Ohio. The right-hander facing Patrick Bailey. His former catcher
- 10:04Speaker 2: cuts and misses. Strike one. Bailey's had a good day.
- 10:08Speaker 2: Two singles, a walk, and RBI. Switch hitting catcher batting left-handed.
- 10:14Speaker 2: The pitch. And he fouls it off.
- 10:16Speaker 1: 0-2.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Carson Seymour went a scoreless inning, had a couple of strikeouts.
- 10:22Speaker 2: Brubaker throws that sinker in the mid-90s. You'll get a
- 10:26Speaker 2: lot of them. Slider, changeup, a few curveballs. Into the wind,
- 10:32Speaker 2: here it comes. And strike three called. Fastball at the
- 10:38Speaker 2: top of the zone with sink. And out looking is
- 10:42Speaker 2: Patrick Bailey. Here's Petey helping. 0 for 3 today. Brubaker,
- 10:48Speaker 2: 40th appearance. ERA 359. Not a strikeout guy. The windup
- 10:58Speaker 2: by Brubaker. And the pitch. And it's fouled at the plate.
- 11:03Speaker 2: Strike one. We'll greet you tomorrow night from Denver. Mid-90s
- 11:15Speaker 2: weather there in the Mile High City. 4-2 Cleveland, eighth inning.
- 11:25Speaker 2: Here's the pitch. Backed them off the plate, 1-1. The
- 11:38Speaker 2: kick and delivery. Down and in, ball two, 2-1. The pitch.
- 11:56Speaker 2: Inside all the way to the backstop. 3-1 to count
- 12:00Speaker 2: on Petey Helping. Kate Smith. A rare save opportunity. Getting
- 12:05Speaker 2: ready in the Cleveland bullpen. Outfield shallow. Straight up. The
- 12:18Speaker 2: wind and pitch. Swung on line. Shot center field. Base hit.
- 12:22Speaker 2: Petey Helping. It'll bring up Brian Rocchio, made a brilliant
- 12:26Speaker 2: play to end the eighth. The top half of it.
- 12:29Speaker 2: He'll bat left-handed, 0 for 3. Four runs, eight hits, Cleveland.
- 12:49Speaker 2: Two runs, five hits, San Francisco. One out, one on.
- 12:52Speaker 2: Guardians batting. Bottom of the eighth. The pitch. Down and in.
- 12:56Speaker 2: Ball one. The pitch. Waved at. Evens the count. White
- 13:19Speaker 2: Sox are being no-hit at home today by the Atlanta Braves.
- 13:23Speaker 3: 1-0.
- 13:24Speaker 2: Top of the sixth. There's a breaking ball strike. The
- 13:31Speaker 2: no-hitter being twirled by Grant Holmes, a 30-year-old. You talk
- 13:41Speaker 2: about an emotional... There's the throw to first and helping
- 13:44Speaker 2: in a rundown between first and second. And the ball dropped,
- 13:50Speaker 2: and he's safe at second.
- 13:52Speaker 3: Oh, my.
- 13:53Speaker 2: Talk about butchering a rundown. Petey helping was a dead tuna.
- 14:01Speaker 2: Just broke for second. And Basabi just threw the baseball.
- 14:08Speaker 2: The second baseman who dropped the ball on the throw
- 14:11Speaker 2: to second, enabling Helpen to get in safely, just took
- 14:15Speaker 2: the baseball and chucked it into the right field corner. Unfortunately,
- 14:22Speaker 2: that's not where the rundown was occurring. Wasabi upset with himself.
- 14:30Speaker 2: He better have made sure time was called before he
- 14:32Speaker 2: threw it into the right field corner. Helpen could have scored.
- 14:37Speaker 2: So instead of a pickoff, Helpen's on at second. Now
- 14:42Speaker 2: the 1-2 to Rocio. Swung on top, foul right side.
- 14:47Speaker 2: We haven't seen a player throw a ball like that since...
- 14:51Speaker 2: Trevor Bauer pitched his final game for Cleveland in Kansas City.
- 14:57Speaker 2: And it was impressive when he chucked the ball from
- 15:01Speaker 2: the pitcher's mound into the center field fountains. This one,
- 15:09Speaker 2: not as far, but into the right field corner from Basabi.
- 15:12Speaker 2: The pitch down low, 2-2.
- 15:14Speaker 3: And Tony Vitello, their manager, he was outspoken over the weekend.
- 15:19Speaker 3: They did not play good baseball on him. He said,
- 15:22Speaker 3: junior college-like, if that.
- 15:25Speaker 2: The pitch in the dirt, knocked down by Kisner, but
- 15:28Speaker 2: the ball carries away from him and helping to third
- 15:32Speaker 2: on a wild pitch. And you've got to remember, too,
- 15:38Speaker 2: Tony Vitello saw really good baseball in Knoxville. He was
- 15:44Speaker 2: the head coach of Knoxville. At that time, the best
- 15:46Speaker 2: baseball program in America, the Tennessee Volunteers, won a national championship.
- 15:52Speaker 2: Now the infield and runner at third. Cleveland up two.
- 15:56Speaker 2: Payoff pitch. And it's ripped into right. That's a base
- 15:59Speaker 2: hit by Rocchio. Five to two, Cleveland. Rocchio with his
- 16:06Speaker 2: 52nd RBI. So the Guardians take advantage. Of hospitality extended
- 16:14Speaker 2: by the Giants. And Cleveland gets an insurance run. That
- 16:19Speaker 2: makes it a 5-2 ball game. Rocio at first. One
- 16:24Speaker 2: down in the eighth. Top of the order. And Stephen Kwan,
- 16:27Speaker 2: he's walked three times and has an RBI single. Out
- 16:34Speaker 2: to the mound is catcher Andrew Kisner. Giants... Have a
- 16:42Speaker 2: quiet bullpen now. Kane Smith ready to work tonight for Cleveland.
- 16:50Speaker 2: I know a lot of people have criticized the Giants
- 16:54Speaker 2: for hiring a college coach with no pro experience but
- 16:59Speaker 2: how do you know it won't work out until you
- 17:02Speaker 2: try it? And the Giants season is not because of
- 17:06Speaker 2: Tony Vitello. This is and was not a good roster
- 17:11Speaker 2: and Tony Vitello has admitted he's made some mistakes, have
- 17:15Speaker 2: been growing pains, but you name a major league manager
- 17:20Speaker 2: that doesn't make a mistake. This is not at the
- 17:23Speaker 2: feet of Tony Vitello. That pitch down to low, ball one.
- 17:27Speaker 3: Well, it'd be interesting to see if they're able to
- 17:29Speaker 3: improve the roster in the offseason to see what he
- 17:32Speaker 3: can do in year two with that first season under
- 17:34Speaker 3: his belt. It's not a good experience coaching staff, especially
- 17:38Speaker 3: when you look at Ron Washington being a part of it.
- 17:41Speaker 2: The 1-0 in there. Nobody better in the game than
- 17:45Speaker 2: Ron Washington. And ask Steven Vogt about his maiden voyage.
- 17:50Speaker 2: Even though Cleveland got to the playoffs, he was American
- 17:53Speaker 2: League Manager of the Year. He'll tell you he was
- 17:56Speaker 2: a vastly better manager after that first year. The pitch
- 17:59Speaker 2: hit on the ground to second. Basabi, high throw to second.
- 18:03Speaker 2: Leaping grab by Adamas. He'll tag out Rocchio. But no
- 18:08Speaker 2: double play. As Basabi almost airmailed that throw into left field. Wow.
- 18:21Speaker 2: So another break and another extra out. Kwon on with
- 18:25Speaker 2: a fielder's choice. Inning still goes with two down. Time
- 18:33Speaker 2: of the order. Was Kwon now the number two hitter,
- 18:36Speaker 2: the D.H., Joe Adele. And he pops one out of
- 18:39Speaker 2: play to the left. Strike one. He pinched it in
- 18:41Speaker 2: the sixth and struck out. Now for the Giants, they
- 18:50Speaker 2: probably cannot wait for our Joe Adele.
- 18:53Speaker 3: Yes.
- 18:53Speaker 2: A little reset in the offseason. And it's going to
- 18:57Speaker 2: be a big reset. Yeah. The pitch. Swing and a miss.
- 19:00Speaker 9: 0-2.
- 19:02Speaker 3: It's going to be fascinating to see what the rules
- 19:04Speaker 3: are that teams can build rosters by.
- 19:06Speaker 2: Well, if you have a lockout December 1st, you can't
- 19:11Speaker 2: add anybody. Here's the 0-2 pitch. Checked on the pitch.
- 19:17Speaker 2: Didn't get the call. It was low, 1-2. Cleveland with
- 19:25Speaker 2: a 5-2 lead. Runner on, 2 down, 8th inning. Adele
- 19:29Speaker 2: awaiting the 1-2 offering. Here it comes. And he rips
- 19:32Speaker 2: one to short. A backhanded stop by Adonis to get
- 19:36Speaker 2: the lead runner at second on the throw to Basabi.
- 19:41Speaker 2: Scalded off the bat of Adele. Nice play by Adonis
- 19:45Speaker 2: at short with the backhand in the hole. Cleveland with
- 19:48Speaker 2: an insurance run up 5-2. after 8.
- 19:51Speaker 1: I'm saying what everyone else won't after Guardians Baseball on
- 19:55Speaker 1: 570 WKBN.
- 20:00Speaker 2: Cade Smith looking for save number 32. Hasn't had many opportunities.
- 20:05Speaker 2: Last one came 8 days ago. Smith fastball slider split.
- 20:12Speaker 2: 31 saves, a. 225 ERA. Bottom third of the order.
- 20:19Speaker 2: Victor Barracotto hits the first pitch on a line to left,
- 20:23Speaker 2: but back onto the warning track and a half jump
- 20:26Speaker 2: and catch by Kwon. Oh, man, Barracotto put a charge
- 20:31Speaker 2: into that one, and that got on top of Kwon
- 20:34Speaker 2: in a hurry. And he had to make a jump
- 20:37Speaker 2: as he got to the warning track to bring it down.
- 20:40Speaker 2: One pitch, one out. Here's Jonah Cox, struck out his
- 20:44Speaker 2: only time up. 5-2 Cleveland. Gavin Williams will win his
- 20:50Speaker 2: 12th if Kate Smith gets it done. First pitch in there,
- 20:54Speaker 2: a strike at 98. And Cleveland will get its first
- 20:59Speaker 2: series win at home. In almost two months, the pitch,
- 21:05Speaker 2: check swing, foul tip, 0-2. And at this time of
- 21:09Speaker 2: the year, you don't care who you beat, how you
- 21:13Speaker 2: beat them, what the score was. The only thing that
- 21:17Speaker 2: matters now, wins, wins, wins. Now the 1-1. Waved at,
- 21:28Speaker 2: and beg your pardon, that was the scoreboard had one
- 21:31Speaker 2: and one. I've got to learn never to trust it.
- 21:34Speaker 2: That was an 0-2 pitch, a swing and a miss,
- 21:36Speaker 2: a strikeout. That's a very difficult job. Two down. Here's
- 21:42Speaker 2: Christian Koss, the last hope. 34 games. That's it. That's
- 21:49Speaker 2: all that's left in this season. Here's Koss, 0-2 in
- 21:54Speaker 2: the walk. The pitch. Check swing. He went around. Strike one.
- 21:58Speaker 3: And this is the prototype. Good start from Gavin Williams.
- 22:02Speaker 3: Let the bullpen do the rest and get just enough hitting.
- 22:05Speaker 3: And we'll see where it takes him.
- 22:07Speaker 2: Now that three-run first. That's your ballgame today along with
- 22:12Speaker 2: the incredible pitching. Cleveland's pitching staff has allowed four runs
- 22:16Speaker 2: to the Giants this series. The pitch. And a touch-high
- 22:21Speaker 2: challenge by Patrick Bailey. He thought it was a strike.
- 22:27Speaker 2: 5-2 Cleveland, two outs, nobody on ninth inning, and challenge lost.
- 22:32Speaker 2: It was a ball. Well, you're not taking that challenge
- 22:39Speaker 2: with you to Denver, so no reason not to use
- 22:42Speaker 2: it there. Smith, he's ready. Here it comes. And the 1-1,
- 22:50Speaker 2: swing and a miss, 1-2. They have no chance against
- 22:53Speaker 2: his fastball. He doesn't have to throw anything else. Kane
- 23:03Speaker 2: Smith is ready. The 1-2. Fastball just a tick outside.
- 23:08Speaker 9: 2-2.
- 23:08Speaker 2: The set. The 2-2 delivery. Check swing. Did he go around?
- 23:22Speaker 5: No.
- 23:23Speaker 2: Pitch bounced away. Bailey pops on top of it. Kane Smith.
- 23:29Speaker 2: He can smell it now. Full count. Two outs. Nobody
- 23:33Speaker 2: on five to two Cleveland. They're a strike away from
- 23:37Speaker 2: winning the series from the Giants. And then six on
- 23:41Speaker 2: the road. Denver and Anaheim. The upcoming journey. Smith is ready.
- 23:49Speaker 2: Here's the pitch. Swing and a pop-up. Foul. Back of
- 23:53Speaker 2: the plate. And it drifts into the seats. A hundred
- 23:57Speaker 2: miles an hour on that heater. They're on their feet
- 24:08Speaker 2: at the corner of Carnegie and Ontario. Cleveland with a
- 24:12Speaker 2: three-run lead, two down in the ninth inning. Smith from
- 24:19Speaker 2: the set. Here it comes. And he threw a slider
- 24:24Speaker 2: into the outer part of the batter's box all the
- 24:27Speaker 2: way to the backstop for ball four. Kass is aboard
- 24:31Speaker 2: with two down. Top of the order now. Andrew Kisner.
- 24:37Speaker 2: And Kisner pinched it and fouled out. So two down,
- 24:42Speaker 2: one on. Cleveland up 5-2 here in the ninth inning.
- 24:52Speaker 2: Gabe Smith, he doesn't waste any time. Hands chest high,
- 24:56Speaker 2: lets it fly. Kisner swings, fouling it to the upper deck.
- 25:00Speaker 2: Strike one. Runner not held. The pitch, a little bit wide.
- 25:19Speaker 2: Ball one, one and one to count. The next delivery,
- 25:33Speaker 2: up and in, ball two, two and one. Cade Smith fires,
- 25:49Speaker 2: pitches low, 3-1. All of a sudden he's lost command
- 25:53Speaker 2: of the strike zone. Cade says, hey, you know what,
- 25:56Speaker 2: let's try a new baseball. Patrick Bailey walking out to
- 26:00Speaker 2: the mound. Maybe to just slow Cade Smith down a
- 26:04Speaker 2: little bit. He may be trying to not rush through
- 26:09Speaker 2: the save, but he may be rushing a little bit. Funny,
- 26:13Speaker 2: even though you've got 31 saves, when you've had so
- 26:16Speaker 2: few opportunities, you kind of get out of that rhythm
- 26:20Speaker 2: and maybe you speed yourself up a little bit. And
- 26:24Speaker 2: Patrick Bailey, so good at not only reading the hitter,
- 26:28Speaker 2: but reading his pitcher. 3-1 the count now on Kisner.
- 26:38Speaker 2: The next delivery. Bullseye. Full count. Kisner's challenging a pitch
- 26:46Speaker 2: right down Euclid Avenue. Good lord. The pitch almost was
- 27:02Speaker 2: down the middle of the plate. Almost. Full count now.
- 27:09Speaker 2: Traveling time at first for Koss at first. Here's the payoff.
- 27:16Speaker 2: Outside ball four. Not by much. The Cleveland and the
- 27:23Speaker 2: Giants both out of challenges. And here comes pitching coach
- 27:27Speaker 2: Carl Willis because... And again, not to besmirch anybody... But
- 27:35Speaker 2: the Giants are playing with a lot of guys they
- 27:37Speaker 2: can't hit Cade Smith, not the guys that they have
- 27:40Speaker 2: now because of trades and injuries. And really the only
- 27:44Speaker 2: way the Giants can get back into this is what
- 27:47Speaker 2: has just happened. You walk two guys, now you have
- 27:50Speaker 2: to face Raphael Devers with a 5-2 lead with two down,
- 27:54Speaker 2: two on. And he's one guy you worry about.
- 27:57Speaker 3: He could hit a fastball, there's no question about it.
- 28:01Speaker 3: And that is the predicament now for Smith, and you
- 28:03Speaker 3: may be right, Tom, that the lack of save opportunities
- 28:06Speaker 3: creating that sharpness, this is only his sixth opportunity since
- 28:10Speaker 3: the All-Star break.
- 28:14Speaker 2: So, Raphael Devers, he's one for two, a single, two walks,
- 28:19Speaker 2: leads the Giants 25 homers, 31 doubles, 69 RBIs, the
- 28:25Speaker 2: left-handed hitter, the wide-open stance, bat high above his batting helmet,
- 28:29Speaker 2: the pitch, both sides. Koss at second. Kisner at first.
- 28:38Speaker 2: Two down. Smith a check at second. Comes to the plate.
- 28:44Speaker 2: Waved at it. Letter high fastball. If he can keep
- 28:47Speaker 2: the fastball right there. Right at the letters. Devers has
- 28:53Speaker 2: no chance. Now the 0-2. Swung on, lazy fly to center.
- 29:03Speaker 2: Under it is Petey helping. He makes the catch. Ball game.
- 29:08Speaker 2: Series win for the Guardians. They knock off the Giants 5-2.
