Transcript
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Daily Rider, where we share a lesson each day to help you cultivate the habits for creative success.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: It's natural for us to talk about our successes and triumphs.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: And why shouldn't we?
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: Those naturally put us in a good light.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: They show people that we're competent and worthy of respect.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: It's not quite so natural to talk about our mistakes and our failures.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: We always run the risk of disappointing people or of coming off as less than perfect.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: We're afraid people will think less of us.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: Truthfully, though, none of us is perfect.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: And whenever we see another writer become vulnerable enough to talk about their failures, of course we relate to it.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: We live with our own failures every single day, so it's refreshing to hear other people own up to their imperfections.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: Al Alvarez once said, the better the artist, the more vulnerable he seems to be.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: There is some kind of connection between greatness and vulnerability.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: But why is that?
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: Well, it's because our humanity and our willingness to display our humanity without fear of judgment is what actually attracts other people to us.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: So go ahead, give it a shot.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: You may find that the very thing you're afraid to share is what would actually help people the most.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much for listening to today's episode.
