Latest / Bros on Birds / Eight Seconds to Disaster — London Fallout & Eagles Panic
Transcript
- Mike: What's going on everybody? Welcome back to another episode of Bros on Birds. We got the full crew tonight. Chris, Paul, Jamal, Joe, myself. we're all here. Well, the Eagles went across the pond and apparently winning football wasn't included in the travel package. Joe was actually over in London for the game, so he's got a first hand account of the disaster. Joe, before we start ripping into this team apart, tell us about your experience. How was London? What was the atmosphere like? And most importantly, were you extremely pissed off walking out of that building? Joe: well, obviously the last part, yeah. th there are other things that make it even worse that I I'll get into. Maybe not right now, but as as the podcast goes on. I've been to London like a bunch of times, so it wasn't the same for me as it was for a lot of people who went over there. A lot of Eagles fans were there for the first time, the ones I spoke to. and it seems like a lot of people got in on Saturday, which was interesting because Mike: Day before. Joe: Yeah, the day before the game. A lot of people got in there on Saturday. The game was Sunday. And they were staying a little bit longer. But you should always come in maybe another day earlier than that if this happens again. You know, now you know, I guess. because the first night, Friday night, when I was went to, I guess, a get together that was scheduled at I forget what the name of the pub was. It was it was packed, but earlier in the day they had other stuff scheduled throughout the city. Not a lot of Eagles fans were there, not a lot of fans were there. The event at Trafalgar Square was like kind of sucked. it was like twenty-five, thirty more than that to one, Eagles fans to Jags fans. You it that really kind of blew my mind. I thought they had more organic kind of support in the city because they play three games every year, and they don't. You know, it's I mean, again. Just like when the Phillies went over there, Mike, you were with me. We outnumbered Mets fans like infinite numbers to one. it was pretty much the same thing. Good vibe, good atmosphere. We had decent weather. yeah, overall is a good experience. London's a good city. You could see the hostess thing, even though you know, Hotspur Stadium. I mean, you've been to these stadiums in in London, Mike, and the section the the area that that the Hotspur Stadium is in. isn't probably the best area to have something like this. It doesn't put London's best foot forward. Like North London generally is kind of a pit. and the surrounding parts of the stadium, they didn't have room to do this kind of like what they have with the Phillies game. I'm going to compare everything kind of to that. Where outside of the stadium they had this huge ground set up with just, you know, merch tents and different kinds of food and stuff you could buy out there. You could get like the normal stuff they probably have at Spurs games. You know, all the stands that are outside the stadium were open, but nothing that was kind of football related. but you know, overall it was a good time. It was fun. It was good to see Eagles fans there. we represented very well. you I'm sure you guys heard it on TV how loud the stadium was. People that were locals that were there at the game said they'd never heard crowd that loud, especially and they go to NFL games. They've never heard any of the NFL games that were this was the by far the loudest one, according to a lot of people. but yeah, good time. Mike: Chris, you you you got the you know, either wa you you watched it on T V, not necessarily in the stadium, but either way, how badly was it listening to it? Risi: Ugh, it it was it well listening to the crowd was amazing. So first and foremost, listening to like the crowd like it literally sounded like a home game. So kudos to Joe and all of the Eagles fans showing up there. And I'd love to hear the fact that Jacksonville does not have like a crowd there. You know, like they don't have a fan base there. And not for nothing. Eagles fans everywhere we travel is amazing. So shout out to them for that. As far as the game goes, it was it was painful. Ugh. I mean that was w that was one of the most more painful games I think I've watched in a long time. It almost was it was it brought me is like why do I even like football? Like that's how bad that game was to me. So y I wanna get into it in the details later on why I have that, but that was a painful, painful game to watch. Mike: Jamal, where is this ending rank among the dumbest ways you've seen a team lose? Jamal Smith: It's funny you asked that question, 'cause I would have threw it up there at number one, as less at least for this weekend, but we had a neighbor that finish the game even dumber than us. But this shit is really high up there. I mean, Mike: A neighbor. Jamal Smith: like the commanders, they get the they get the trophy this week for prop maybe the dumbest like ending of the season. We got a lot of season left. That shit was retarded. If you can say that. If you can, I don't care. Risi: Yeah. Jamal Smith: I it's pretty high up there. I was really disappointed. That shit really broke my heart. And I knew it was going to happen. Like, talk about foreshadowing. It's almost like this shit was written. Like that that that return kickoff in the beginning of the game just let us know what we were gonna see later on. Hurts. Mike: Yeah, I mean like I I I think when I I saw that field goal, I started to celebrate. I was like, It's over. It's over. We won. We got eight seconds left. Like the game's over. Like we got this. So yeah. Paul, what did you think? So yeah. But anyway, we're all here today. We got before we get started, follow us on bros on birds pod on Instagram, bros on birds pod at gmail.com. Jake Elliott gives us the lead, and all we need to do is finish dang game, but no, we somehow managed to turn eight seconds into an international embarrassment. Jacksonville wins nineteen seventeen, and now we're left wondering how a team with this much talent keeps finding ways to lose. Joe, you were there when Elliott hit the field goal. What was happening in the stands? Did paul: Time in despair. Mike: everyone think it's over? Joe: Yeah. Yeah. And it should be. You know, there's eight seconds left. You just have to kick the ball out of bounds. They're gonna get one play, eight seconds. Defend the sidelines and give them the middle of the field, tackle them in bounds, that's eight seconds. It's that's what we all thought was gonna happen. And then kind of the wheel started slowly coming off as Jake Elliott kicked that ball, and I'm like, huh, that's not going out of bounds. And he Guy catches it around the five-yard line. It's like, okay, there's very little chance he's gonna their kicker has a leg. There very little chance he gets it past the 50. And lo and behold, he winds up like on the 46 yard line or whatever it was. And it's like, yeah, yeah, Mike: There are forties like the yeah, yeah. Risi: There are forties. Joe: yeah, yeah. It's like, Jesus effing Christmas, dude. It this is not the way that this, and you know, when he got tackled, I looked up at the clock and I'm like, it's zeros. Game's over. Bat, you know, took him too long to get up there, whatever. At that point, they probably should just let him go for a few more yards and try to tack. I don't know. Just like, Mike: Yeah, I right. Joe: I I have no idea. Risi: Yeah, you don't know. Joe: So they put what two sec a second back on the clock and I Mike: One second. Joe: was like, it went to zeros. What the fuck? And you're you guys corrected me quickly by text, like, no, they replayed it and there there was some time left when he went down. Mike: And when they showed it on the replay, it was actually two seconds left. They were Risi: Yeah. It's like two. Joe: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Mike: generous and knocked it down the one. Joe: You know, well, I mean, you knew they were kicking a field goal. But yeah, everybody thought the game was over. It was it was a formality at that point. You kicked the like again, you kick the ball out of bounds, take the penalty, they get it at 40. They throw past the end zone or somewhere in the middle of the field, hook and ladder play, something crazy. You know, you tackle them inbounds and game's over. You know, like 99.99997 Risi: We'll hold on. Joe: of these NFL. That's how these games end when they're like this. Mike: Well we'll we'll we'll touch on it a little bit more. Paul, where's the blame go? We Yeah, where where where is paul: Can you hear me? Can you hear me? thank Risi: Yeah. Joe: Yeah. paul: you, God. Okay. Talk to me. Mike: Where does the blame go? Jamal Smith: Yeah. Mike: Is it special teams? Is it coaching? Is it just another example of a team that cannot close a game? What is it? paul: It's it's our head coach who has to read the room. We are banged up. We are a we're a team, you know, I had so many emotions after this game. we fought our asses off. We had no business even being in that game. And to be in the lead with eight seconds to go. We had a chance to win that game for the second week in a row. And our decisions from our coach is killing us. It's it's just killing us. he did I I I do give him credit. And you know, Nick, I give him credit. He took he took full blame after after after the game. Okay, fine. But it doesn't make us feel any better. Like We went in in eight seconds, we went from think I, me personally, went from thinking Nick had his team ready, the defense showed up, everybody was ready. Now, I don't know what's going on in the second half, and we'll get on that later. But I I blame Nick for not reading the room. It shouldn't have been in that position. Even the draft drive before that, the two passes. What are we doing? Why are we passing it? They only had a t a timeout to go. Make them burn their timeouts. Why are we calling a pass to the outside? So Lemon can run outside. I know everybody's talking, well, Goddard was in the middle. He didn't see him, blah, blah, blah. Mike: Wide open. paul: I'm blaming. I'm bla and he was wide open. Mike: Why don't paul: He was wide open. I get it. And we'll talk about Jalen later. I blame Siriani. For this a hundred percent. I'm sorry, guys. Mike: Chris, well to you, how much responsibility Risi: I I got a different take. Mike: how much I was gonna say, how much responsibility do you put on Siriani? Risi: I blame Joe for this. I Mike: Ha ha ha. Risi: I So Jamal Smith: Jesus. Risi: the I Joe: Me. Risi: blame I blame Joe because because because it literally soon as soon as we we go up, right, we go down the field, and Joe Mike: thank you. Risi: and Joe sends this text, and Joe notoriously, like every so often I'll send a text, and I'm like, it's either gonna infuriate me or like make me question a lot of things. And he's like, eight seconds might be too much. I'm like, this mother like and as soon as he sent that, soon as soon as he said that, I paul: He's a savant. He was a hundred percent right. Joe: I did say that. I did say that. Risi: said, my god, I think he's gonna be right. Because I said that this just it like just don't kick him the ball and we'll be okay. Joe's wrong. They kick him the ball. I said it paul: They get them the ball! Risi: I said I cause this game like look again, as much as I want to harp on our Siriani and our play this game was a battle of the duds. We had no business being that into the game at paul: No business. Risi: the end. Because their their coaching was just as bad. Right. So like paul: Yes. Risi: you you we could go ad nauseum. So if when you talk about responsibility, I blame Joe all the way, one hundred per Yeah. Mike: I just went back in time. So at twelve twenty nine local time, which was still in the fourth quarter. You know, this is the worst feeling. The Eagles are up fourteen ten and I'm just sitting here waiting for them to blow it. Zero confidence. This is Joe in the stands. We're we're we're winning at this we're you know. Risi: Yeah. Mike: hold on, I'm gonna go back. Guys, the crowd's doing its job. It's loud. That was the big stop. That was the big stop. paul: false starts. They they they they had false starts. Mike: Yeah. Then we get that catch was gross. The fucking stupid band playing cover songs, relying on the Risi: Yeah. Mike: defense to make us another stop. Where's where's it at? Something t this was at one eleven local time. Something tells me eight seconds is too much time. Risi: That's the one. Soon as he sent that, I'm standing in front of my TV and I'm like, I can't leave. This is not good. This is not over. I I knew it. As soon as he sent that text. And then that's it. Mike: Yep. Yep. Joe: Guys, you guys have known me long enough. I am jaded. I am a pessimist when it comes to this when it comes to this team. I say that shit every week. Don't I? Unless you know last Mike: Yeah, we know. We know we know. We know. Joe: time I you if you Risi: That's what I said. Joe: go back through our text. Mike: And we usually say something every week. What the fuck are you doing? Shut up. Risi: Yeah, shut up. But Jamal Smith: Ha ha ha ha. Risi: sometimes it sticks though. Sometimes like when he says it just right I'm like, no, I think he's right on this one. I said I got real nervous on that. Otherwise I'm like, this guy's an asshole. Mike: All right, so so Chris is absolving Sirianni and putting it all on Joe. Jamal, how's a team allow this to happen? Is it bad execution or is it bigger than that? Jamal Smith: well, so it feels like to me that the Eagles are degenerate gamblers who just kept like getting away with the shittiest fucking bets last year. Because we were in all the same positions last year, except it just kept coming out in our favor. And Siriani is the super fucking degenerate who just rolls the dice when it doesn't even make any sense. paul: Thank you. Jamal Smith: I I I cannot blame him on 100% for this loss because When you have third quarters where you scored no points, then I mean, you're putting the coach in in in bad shape. And yes, the coaching calls the plays, but we all have eyes and we can all see that despite the bad line, Jalen seems to really struggle with decision making and processing when under pressure. If he's not extremely under pressure, he he seems to handle it way well. But like the third quarter he got eaten alive. we all know what the Eagles are working with. I'm not going to kill him for this, but he takes responsibility. but the end of the game, that last eight seconds, or even how we left seconds on the clock, and then we kicked the ball in bad like Sirianni's gotta hold a little bit of that. He just does. Maybe it was a bad kick. Maybe he thought he could kick it out of it's hard to believe that he can't get that ball out of the end zone. Mike: And Elliot Elliot said he did what he was instructed, but I mean, come on, at some point we have to say you're a special teams player. That's the only fucking job you have, and it's the only thing you do. You should be able to tackle somebody. Like like Jamal Smith: You know what I mean? Like, can you take someone down? Mike: like even if he kicked it in bounds, you know, look look at this way. I I I I I'm I'm not giving what's name a pass, Sirianni. But if he would have kicked it out of bounds and they would have got the ball on the thirty five, right? This motherfucker's your longest field goal kick of the season is seventy one yards. He needs Jamal Smith: Yeah. Mike: three yards to get there. Like, so Jamal Smith: That's it. Like it's not many. Mike: if if if that would have happened, then we would have s would have said, why didn't we kick it inbounds and let him run it? We could have just tackled it. We would have eight to eight seconds up. Joe: Dude, he's not he ain't kicking it. Jamal Smith: I mean I mean for me, like we can't we can't get away from this point. That game, we really weren't in it. We weren't in it. we were in it because Jacksonville decided that they would have zero percent discipline. I've never seen that many penalties i in the worst possible times ever. Mike: That was that's the only reason we were we were in that we only reason we survived and made it in that game is because the other coach who was supposedly a genius is an absolute fucking moron. And his Risi: He's bad. Mike: team his team i is so undisciplined. But I I think the bigger thing for me i isn't the ending. We shouldn't have been that position to begin with. We got offensive talent and an amazing elite quarterback who's supposed to be this big difference maker, yet the whole second half of fucking every game, he can't do shit. And a running game That's not a thing, it's just apparently a suggestion of something that might be on our Risi: Well Mike: football team. Risi: we're on our fourth string running back though. Like I the running game I gotta paul: We are. Risi: be a little got a little bit fairness to there. I mean you you had Mike: Br I I I I Risi: two paul: this Chris okay so four str Jamal Smith: It looked the same as every other week. paul: so four string Risi: Nah. paul: four string running back right Jalen Hurts was two rushes for two yards okay so Mike: Yeah. Business decision. Jamal Smith: Why? paul: so so so here's my question guys is he making the business decisions like my but my mike just said Mike: Well, Paul, this is the question I was gonna ask you. Is is Hertz being held back by the system, or does he deserve more criticism? paul: Well, okay, so two things. So that's a Joe: I can answer that. paul: that's a great question because apparently he ended up on the injury report right before the game with a calf stream. Okay. I don't know if that was hindering him or whatever. But last last game he's not they're not calling design runs. They're not we need his legs because our running game sucks. Okay, so we need him to do the extra. Is it In-Person: We're gonna get touched in bad ways. paul: is it because is it is it because the contract situation? I don't business decisions. What is it? Joe: Can't Mike: Ga Joe. Joe: Guy is I I think he is making business decisions, but the problem is with you know he's making business decisions and pretty soon the store's gonna close. He he he's not gonna there isn't gonna be a store for him to go shopping at and get this contract that he thinks he's gonna get. Because you didn't ask me who I put the blame on, you guys Chris blame me. I blame the coach and I blame the quarterback. I was there, it was the first time I've seen Jalen Hurts play live this year. There are open receivers. He's not throwing the ball. And I've talked about this before. We've talked about this before. Open in the NFL is two steps. That's open in the NFL. Jalen Hurts doesn't throw a ball to a receiver unless they're much more than two steps. It's got to be, you know, they got to be wide open for him for him to throw them the ball. You know, he he will he rare I mean, I'm not saying throw contested balls all the time, but if The guy is one or two steps ahead of the defender. He's open in the NFL. You have to put that ball on that receiver's hands. Even if he's bad, even if it's Dontavian Wicks or, you know, Johnny Mond or or whoever is out there running running the pattern. You've got to do that as a franchise quarterback. And he doesn't do it. He throws it to guys who are wide open. Like it it's it's frustrating. Like you said, he didn't throw it to On the on the the le one of the last drives of the game. He threw it to Lemmon, who promptly ran out of bounds. Kyle Lemon was open. Threw it to him. He was his first read on that play, too. Dallas Goddard was might have been the third read. So he didn't get there. You know, wit now if there's a guy in his pocket going toward the sideline, he isn't going to throw that ball and he's going to work his way back and hopefully hit Goddard in the middle of the field, and we're having a different conversation. But that I'm telling guy, I mean, Mike. Paul, you're not watch these receivers. These guys are open. He just doesn't put it out there. I don't paul: Joe, I am a hundred percent. I Joe, Mike: That that that's why I don't put it as much paul: I agree with you a hundred percent, Joe, because I go to these games. Mike goes to these games. We see people open. That ball he threw to Cooper, and that it was like. Joe: That was a broken play, basically. It was basically a broken play. paul: It was. But he threw that in a tight window. And it was like he kinda like had like shock. Like, okay, that worked, but nah, I can't do that again. That could have almost got intercepted. Joe: Yeah, I can't do that all the time. Mike: All right, two things. One, this is why I don't put as much blame on Nick because I think we are seeing now through five different coordinators, he has too much say in the offense. And they are catering this offense to what he wants to do. I'm convinced of it. These hitch routes must be a thing that he fucking likes. He don't run the fucking ball. And I'm sorry, the fucking Jordan, this fucking shit in the first fucking half. No, you don't do that shit. Do that shit in the second half when you finally score fucking points. Go ahead, Jamal. Sorry, I cut you off. Or go ahead. Jamal Smith: So no no no, Risi: He left the game a Gedem. Jamal Smith: I j I just wanted to point out one thing. I'm sure you guys all realize the the games that we did within this season so far, he had interceptions. but you also saw him taking risks. Some of them not great, some of them great, but I mean you look around the league, all the quarterbacks who are killing it, they throw one or three interceptions a game. Like it just is what it is. You have to take chances out here. And like he's never going to get to fucking glory again if he doesn't take chances. The line is not going to get better. Saquon is not going to come back and have a fucking 1,200 yard season. Like this man has to take those chances. I want to know what happened because he was clearly like letting the ball go on time and taking chances those first two games. paul: The first two games. You're right, Jamal. Jamal Smith: He just stopped. Like he came out that third game and was like, I'm old, Jalen. I don't understand it. Mike: It's gotta be the offensive line. I think he's a little scared behind this offensive line because he's willing to take the chance when he felt comfortable, but now he's not taking a chance when he's not. But Chris, what would you change offensively right now? Is I that's what I wanna know. Play calling, personnel, scheme? What are you changing? Risi: But let's just just real quick here, let's not forget when we the offense left the field with eight seconds left to go, they had the lead with a fourth quarter scoring drive. Like I the brand that is Jalen Hurts, my man has shown up every time when it matters at the end. There's a lot of things you can we can we can rag on. Mike: okay, but why can't he show up in the third quarter? Just once. Just one drive in the third quarter. Just once. Risi: Hold on. Here, look, here, I I care about wins. Like at the end of the day, that's the Jalen brand. Mike: And we haven't gotten any. We haven't Risi: But if I if I got to put on anything, you're talking about that the that decision for that game, eight seconds left. He left the field, he being Jalen, left the field with a with a lead. Now that has happened, right? So for me, it's like, you know, thinking about the brand and kind of what what Jalen is. I I'm still riding with it. I think there's times that he doesn't throw yes, there's times that you're like, wow, that guy's really wide open and he just doesn't he just does his system and he's got a ring for it, an MVP for I mean, there's I'm riding with it. So for me, from like a scheme perspective and on personnel, if you're asking me, well, like the number one thing is we're injured, we're hurt. The O line is the biggest deal. I I don't know how you pull this thing together, like as far as like what how he needs to do. What like from our personnel, I don't think there's many options in here. The the plague Mike: But in reality, that offensive line is healthy, minus one player. That's our starting offensive Risi: This is not Mike: line. Risi: but that wasn't the one we came into the season with though. Like this is not we had to like I get it that that's what our we're gonna be working with going forward. So there's gonna have to be audibles and changes and and things to that nature, but this personnel is what it is. The scheme so far, I I I can't answer the why the why are these hitch routes happening? What what happened to week one and two, Jalen? You know, that that's the piece. I hope it comes back around. I'm willing to wait and see here, but like I can't put all this on the offense. I agree the third it's frustrating to watch, but they left the field with the with the lead with eight seconds left. Mike: Alright, I'll I'll say this one thing of that. If Jalen Hurts plays fifty games and forty nine of those games he has the lead at the end of the game, but they lose, he's still the most losing quarterback in NFL history. Risi: That's a crazy it's a crazy take. Like it's he paul: But Mike, the question was why was the game Mike: It's loss. It's a loss. Jamal Smith: Ha ha ha. paul: why was the game a loss? With eight seconds to go, the coach decided Joe: Tune quarterback. paul: to pick to tell them to to to let the guy and these damn analytics. Mike: Or or your gunners or your gunners on the left hand side of the field weren't in their lane and they were all on the right side of the field. Why? paul: But Mike, Risi: Or Jackson Jacksonville didn't take that time out with forty seconds paul: we our our bet one of our best Risi: left. paul: but one of our best special teamers was ejected. Jamal Smith: That hurt. It hurt. paul: And guess what guys? Our backup quarterback was on the kickoff team. Jamal Smith: Yeah, w what was that about, man? What I was just about to what the hell was that about? paul: What do we but Joe: Yeah, what's that about? paul: but but Mike: Yeah. paul: but Jamal so this is my this is my what I'm saying, Nick. You see your backup quarterback is on your special teams, you're short handed. Why are you making them try to go down there and stop Adula when he you already know he was balling hell? Why are you putting your team in this position? Jamal Smith: You gotta put the best guys on the field in that situation. You need a win. You need to just fucking win. Put everybody out there. I don't give a fuck. Put everybody out there. All the best tacklers. Didn't happen. Risi: Did not happen. We kicked it to we kicked it to him and he fucking ran all over us. All right. It was brutal. Absolutely brutal. Jamal Smith: Yeah, it Risi: Brutal way to lose the game. Jamal Smith: Total heartbreak. paul: Chris, let me ask Chris, I just wanna know. So so why do you think he's not running? Risi: Who, Jalen? paul: Yeah. Risi: Jalen's got a brand. There's no doubt. After I found out that what's the other thing that happened that came out? there's sort of how Jalen's the face of the NFL. And like he he Yeah, he Yeah, Roger Roger get the and so he there's er Joe: What? What? Who the fuck said that? paul: Goodell Roger Goodell. Roger Goodell said that for the game. Jamal Smith: Yeah, he's not though. Mike: C yeah. Risi: Put the pieces together, right? Like, you know, him hanging out with Jordan, you know, the way he carries himself. Like he he is looking past the NFL. He I don't think he cares about a big contract to be a QB after this. Like he's in that post-world. Like I I I feel like he's he cares about the brand more than anything. the you know, his image, his brand, and everything's a business decision for him. Like I kind of get that. And you can hate it or love it. I mean, right now, there he's our best option, so I'm gonna I'm gonna roll with it. Joe: He there isn't gonna be a brand if there isn't without performance. I mean, you can put a guy out there and you know, he's the fa but if he's not performing on the field, it it's kind of a joke, isn't it? Risi: That's what I'm that's what I'm he's already got the ring. He's got the V P. How he plays this out, like I don't think he needs another Joe: Yeah, but it's always Risi: one. Joe: the thing with the ring though, ev like almost it's like fifty fifty with with the national media where people say, yeah, he's and then other people are the other half is he was carried to a ring because of you know the talent on the team. He was the kid with all the toys. You know? That's Jamal Smith: Well, 'cause Trent Dilfer exists. Joe: still out there. And it's not just Trent Dilford, it's a lot of guys, you know. Jamal Smith: Yeah, there's quite a few. I mean that that's a that's an archetype that does exist. There are there's the quarterback who does like just enough not to mess it up for his team. d do you think Jalen is tired of Philadelphia? Like do you think that No. No Joe: I don't think it bothers him. I I really don't I don't think it bothers him. No, I Mike: I don't either. I Joe: don't think it bothers him. paul: Yeah, I'm I'm Mike: I I wanna I wanna I wanna go back to this I want to go back to this paul: with you, Joe. I don't think it bothers me. Mike: kickoff real quick because I just pulled some some stuff. So the very first kickoff was the only one that was returned for a touchdown, but there was a holding call besides the flagrant fouls that were called that would have negated that run. Besides that, there was a first quarter return that went to the 15 yard line, a second quarter that went to the 30. They averaged three yards on every punt return. So what makes you think their running back, their their receiver is going to run at fifty to the fifty-three yard line? Nothing in that game. Not So kick on the Joe: You're playing your y' paul: Well this was a kick this was a kickoff. This wasn't a punt. Different Mike: kick. I just told you to kick off stats. The first one, the Jamal Smith: Yeah, he w they weren't getting shit. Mike: first one got called back because there was a holding call. The only reason he broke free. The second one, he took it to the fifteen. The ther the third one, he took to the thirty, and then the last one he took for fifty-three yards. Joe: What but what's the you're playing probabilities though, Mike? What's more probable that they are able to pass a ball down and get it within field goal range or if he can return to the forty five paul: No time with no timeouts. Joe: with no timeouts? It's it's very unpro it's the probability just you have to play probabilities at some point. You know, and Mike: I I I would say that you have a higher chance of completing a five yard out route than you do somebody running it to the forty running it fifty three yards off a kickoff. paul: So you don't blame Risi: That's fair. paul: Syriani. Mike: No, I don't. There's no Jamal Smith: Mm-hmm. Mike: reason you should have only there's no paul: Yeah. Mike: reason you should have only scored three points in the second half. paul: Well th well that's stress that's Joe: Yeah. paul: very true. I I agree with that. Mike: And that's what the game came down to. The fact that your offense didn't score. I'm blaming Seriani gets blamed for the play design, the second half, or whatever the fuck he's doing going into the coming out of the second half, because that's a weekly thing. But I'm putting more on Jalen. I'm sorry, Jalen sucks. He's not our quarterback. He is garbage. He should be packing his bags and going to the Vikings by the end of next week. paul: Mm. That's strong. Joe: I I would not. Hey, I I I would trade him right now too. If I could get something for if if the Vikings are willing to give me like a two or you know, say it's a first round pick. I would take Risi: Like two. Joe: a one for Jalen right now. Jamal Smith: He said it too. Mike: I'll take a bag of fucking balls at this point, dude. I like Joe: I don't know about a two. I don't know about a two. Mike: we have the same conversation every year. and then it's it's Joe: Everywhere. Mike: it's it it's the offensive coordinator. well this is a good offensive coordinator, but but Nick has his hands in it. Nick don't have his fucking hands in it. This offensive coordinator implemented a scheme and Jalen Hurts has his hands in it. Jalen Hurts is saying, I'm not running the ball. Jalen Hurts is saying I don't throw to wide open people. Jalen Hurts is saying Put more hitch routes in because that's the only thing I like to throw because if it's either if he misses it, it's going out of bounds. Jamal Smith: I wanna be an advocate. I wanna be an advocate for Jalen. paul: Like games games like he's just had in the last couple weeks, you have every right to say what you're saying. And I can't Mike: I paul: I can't refute it. Mike: I feel like I tried Jamal Smith: Wait, hold on ho. Mike: in the first two weeks. Jamal Smith: Hold on, hold on, hold on. I need to be an advocate. I need to be an advocate really quickly. Cause what we can't do is pretend like that line hadn't that's the first time that line worked together. In in in the form that they're in. We had a fourth not third string, a fourth string running back who he made some mistakes. I mean, did he did he cost the game? No, but he made some mistakes. We're missing Smitty, our wide receiver number one. These things do matter. And they only matter enough to me to not crucify Jalen yet. I'm gonna say I'll give him I'll give him a good seventy to seventy five percent blame for that game. I think I think that that's more than fair. because for what he's getting paid and who we expect him to be, he does need to just be a little bit better. He needs to make better decisions, he needs to make better decisions under pressure, because he's gonna be under pressure all year. But but It's hard to do it without your running back and your wide receiver. and the new line. I just Mike: So so in that logic then the coaching staff gets a shit ton of credit for having that shit team ready to play and stay in a game with a team they should have lost to. Jamal Smith: I'll give them that. I will now, now some of that credit gets taken away because Jacksonville played a putrid fucking game. Mike: Yeah, yeah. Jamal Smith: I mean, they get they wanted to lose that game. I've never seen someone play fucking hot potato with a win like that before. I I couldn't tell you the last time I saw it. But I will give the coaching staff a little bit of credit because while the line didn't look great, they weren't completely destroyed. They were making holes in the beginning. It was the second half. It's like they went back to the fucking locker room and smoked a bunch Mike: Yeah, it seemed like when Jamal Smith: of weed. Mike: when Dontavian took or well not that Dontavian, when what the hell's his name? Damian Pier Pierce took over as the main running back, that's when it kind of went to shit. Because Shipley Jamal Smith: Mm-hmm. Mike: was finding some holes and hitting some things and when Pierce was backing him up, he made some. But that second half da Pierce wasn't even getting yards. He got Jamal Smith: Nothing. Mike: like what what did he end with? Like nine yards in this yeah, like yeah. Joe: He was getting tackle he was he was losing yards. He was getting tackled for loss, like quite a bit. Jamal Smith: He looked unsure out there. He he looked slow. They can't get a rhythm paul: They Jamal Smith: because of that. Joe: I mean the way to neutralize pressure is to get the ball out on time. And I encourage you to go back and watch the game and count how many times Jalen took a three step or five step drop and at the top of the drop the ball was gone. Doesn't he doesn't do that. He never does that. Mike: He did it he did it decent in the first half. That's that's the crazy thing. The first half, you watch him, he got rid of the ball a little bit quicker than he usually does. Then in the second half, it's like he just doesn't do anything. Joe: Right. He holds on to the ball. He waits to try to find a guy who's like fucking wide open. That's what he's doing. Mike: So so was it like he can only follow a script? And if once the script's not there, he's done? Joe: I Mike, I'm like you. I'm not making an excuse for him. I just think he sucks at this point. Until he proves me up proves otherwise. Because against a team where the hole supposedly on their defense is being able to throw the ball on him, he threw for 220. You know, Jamal Smith: Yeah. Joe: not good enough. Mike: Did did a did anybody watch the Sabin documentary? Risi: No. Mike: So that just got released on Netflix and they have video of the switching out of Hertz Tatua. Risi: I saw that clip. Mike: And they and it he Jamal Smith: Brutal. paul: Did see I heard about that. Mike: asked like why, and he said, We have to pass in order to win this game. And we're not going to be able to do it with Jalen. Then he tries they they interview him now for that same question and he's like, Yeah, look, you know, he really wasn't developed as a passer at that point and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And then he tried to say Jalen developed as a passer in that following year when he was still at Alabama. How? If he didn't develop as a passer in the first three years with you, how did he get developed as a passer in the fourth year where he wasn't even playing? Risi: This is the I can't this the I you've hit my threshold of Jalen 8. eight is fine. He's QB1. He's QB1, man. It's QB one. paul: Chris, we have to take we have to Mike: What paul: take this right now because what they're saying, Risi: yeah, I know. paul: I mean, it's it's it's really, really true. In-Person: Rhythmic ball play. paul: And there are people open and why he's not pulling the trigger, why we're seeing more shotguns than than under center. Yeah. Yeah, you know. Joe: Not c they're not call they're not SEC college Big Twelve open. They're not that open. That's what he wants. Mike: Where's the rhythmic ball play, Paul? In-Person: Rhythmic ball play. paul: It's it's it's Mike: Worse. paul: not around right now, brother. Jamal Smith: Yo, I think I I think it's mental though. I I do think it's mental. I don't know at his age if you can change someone, but it feels because how many passes did he have to like the line of scrimmage? Like he he takes like the worst fucking check downs I've ever seen before in my life. I you don't see that in any game across the NFL. He threw, I don't know, I would love to know what number of check downs he threw to like the line of scrimmage at the worst times. Joe: I'm willing to bet right now that the Eagles right now have more passes for losses than any other team in the NFL. They throw passes and they will the the the end result of the play will be behind the line of scrimmage. Risi: Yeah, I can't how I don't know. It's Jamal Smith: But why is that a route? Like why is that even a fucking route? Risi: guaranteed to happen three, four times a game. It's Mike: But the the the the screen yeah. Jamal Smith: I just don't understand why that's even a route. Just eliminate the fucking route. It's either a a screen or like a quick fucking hook. Like none of it ever makes sense. I do not they never get any yards off any of those plays. Joe: Remember we were Risi: So Joe: remember that we were supposed to attack the middle of the field? Remember that? paul: Yes. Risi: Ugh I So I'll be drifting Makai Lemon. Mike: Yeah. Joe: Right. Risi: You know so are we saying here is No. But Jamal Smith: Who doesn't look bad? He does not look bad. Risi: are we saying Mike: When you use them how they're supposed to use them, sorry, Chris. Jamal Smith: Yeah. Risi: But are we saying or you know if you get rid of if you get rid of Jalen and you insert new QB this is a whole different scheme versus Joe: Not not not it's it's not that s unless you can go get a guy who's like really good, which there is nobody out there that they can replace him with like this year or next year, where you're gonna see like Risi: That's why you're stockpiling for the twenty twenty eight draft right now. Mike: Yeah, but I also to to Chris's point, I what he's asking, I think it this scheme is I don't think the scheme is completely different, but there's a there's there's a change to the scheme. We saw it when Tanner McKee went in last year for Jalen. They threw the ball over the middle. They looked like he was more like preemptive with his passes. Not that Tanner McKee's good, but they changed it to what Tanner McKee could do versus what Jalen could do. Joe: Not and not and not that we talk about scheme here, like the Eagles have some unique offense. Like Mann runs the same offense that what's his fa that the Rams run. That's that was his offense in Minnesota. It's the sh the it's the Shanahan paul: Yeah. The majority of the league runs. Joe: run, and the majority of the league runs supposedly runs this offense, but our passing attack doesn't look like anything else in the league. I mean Mike: Yeah, our quarterback isn't Matthew Stafford. He isn't even Jamal Smith: Nope. paul: Guys, it's a picky. Mike: fucking Jared Goff. Like when it comes to the paul: To piggyback. Joe: Right. Mike: way he stands the pocket, throws the ball. paul: piggyback off of what Joe just said. So we had the early game, right? If you watch the rest of the football that day, nothing looks like our offense. I mean the from the Mike: No. Joe: Awesome. Jamal Smith: Nope. Nothing. paul: worst team to the best team. Mike: We've literally developed Jamal Smith: Nothing. Mike: the prevent offense. Joe: Yeah. Don't turn it over. paul: Chris, you feel me? Jamal Smith: Yeah, yep. Joe: It's the don't turn it over offense. Jamal Smith: The Prevent offense. Risi: and no, I can't argue I can't argue with that. 'Cause when you wa when you do watch other games like, I I forgot this is what football's like. You know? Yeah. paul: Yeah. Risi: No, it it's painful to watch. paul: It's painful. Joe: Eagles, it's like an Eagles scoring drive is summarized this way. We cobble together some positive plays with some penalties to help us out, and one or two like crazy things happen, and we wind up getting a touchdown. That's an Eagles offense. You're not going to win a lot of games like paul: Yeah. Jamal Smith: Yeah. Mike: and don't get me wrong, Joe: that. Mike: I'm not saying Nick doesn't get blame, but I'm saying any amount of blame you give to Nick, Jalen deserves the exact same amount. paul: So on the pie chart, Mike, you know, like I had last year. The the the good old pie Mike: do I still have it? paul: chart. So you're giving look at that. Risi: where's that at? paul: Okay. Mike: all right. mine's going fifty percent coaching, fifty percent no, I I'll take that back. I'll paul: No, yeah. Mike: take that back. I'll take that back. I'll do twenty percent injuries. That knocks me down to what, eighty, and then I'll do forty percent coaching and forty percent Jalen. Forty percent paul: And I think that's fair. Jamal Smith: Yeah, I don't hate that. paul: I think you're right on. Mike: Like J we talked about this la I think it was last week. It was just the three of us. But we said there are co there are quarterbacks in the league who have just as fucking shitty offensive lines and just as bad weapons, but when they have a good quarterback, the quarterback usually can help with that a little bit. And it seems like we can't do that. paul: But Mike, I just want to say one last thing and then we can move on. But like injuries, I know you only gave it twenty percent, but it is a big factor. It's a huge, huge, huge, huge factor. We are banged up. Mike: I I I I I I agree. If I think I would give it a higher I'd give it a higher percentage if we weren't winning the last two games at the end of the game. paul: And that's why, and that's why our head coach has to not not take points when it's available and and help your team out because it's amazing that we are in these games. We had no business being in that game in London. And I mean, Jay we had a Jalen Carter set sighting. He I think that was like his Mike: Well I was gonna say paul: best game since last year. Mike: defense, what Joe: Yeah. Jamal Smith: Tore it up. Mike: what do we all think about the defense? Risi: Played w played well. I think they play well. Joe: the defense was lights out, guys. Just Jackson Jacksonville Mike: Yeah, I I I Joe: is a good offensive team. They put up a lot Jamal Smith: There yeah. Joe: of points this year and they only got seventeen on us. And the defense played lights out, my opinion. Everybody in the stadium thought the same thing too. Mike: We were the first team to stop them scoring in the first quarter. Joe: Yeah. Mike: Yeah, I I I agree. I thought they looked I I thought they looked great. Joe: See the but the thing is the defense isn't good enough to overcome how bad our offense is. Mike: Well, th th the defense isn't good enough to spend ninety minutes out on the fucking field. Like Joe: That too. paul: That and the defense isn't good enough to take Jamal Smith: Well, and they gave us two turn they gave us two turnovers. paul: points off the board when it's available. Risi: this is de this is deja vu all over. paul: Yes it is, Chris. Mike: Yeah. It's like those last years of Andy Reid. paul: Yep, that's what it's looking like. Jamal Smith: Like I I know we I I know we moved on to defense, but I do have to say one thing, and this is your fault, Paul. you paul: What's that? Jamal Smith: mentioned watching the other games after ours, and it it paul: Yes. Jamal Smith: hit me with something that kills me. Doesn't it feel like we're lucky? It almost feels In-Person: We're gonna get touched in bad ways. Jamal Smith: like we're lucky when they catch the ball. Like, why paul: Yes. Jamal Smith: does it feel so special when they make a connection? Like you feel like most likely the pass isn't going to get to where it needs to go. And it's been this way. It shouldn't feel like that. You Jacksonville drove down the fucking field on us repeatedly. Yeah, we tightened up and we stopped him. We didn't drive shit. Like it's just like Joe said, we had like a couple of cool things happen that had ended up getting us a touchdown. But it wasn't a drive. Mike: But y you're you're paul: Ha ha. Mike: you're right. Like the the pass, the wicks should have been a touchdown. You knew that pressure was coming. You knew you had to toss the ball up and you knew what was going on, but you couldn't complete it. Like the one where he you guys know about he was running down the sideline, wide open, and like like I'm like already Joe: Yeah, yeah. He's wide open. Overthrows him. Risi: Mm-hmm. Jamal Smith: I exactly what you're talking about. Mike: had somebody in his face, but you knew that was gonna happen. The play is designed to do that. The play is Jamal Smith: I don't think he makes pre-snap reads though. I don't it doesn't feel like he makes pre-snap reads because how does he not see the shit? Mike: I'm going back I'm going back I'm going back to two was it three years ago or two years ago where we said the jailinisms aren't really because he's intelligent. The jailinisms is because he's fucking stupid. Risi: Because he's dumb. Yeah. That's why my head is my Joe: Yeah. Risi: head is in that space. It's like this is like three years ago, and this has just been a long journey of like, is he dumb? Is he stupid? He can't read Adam. He can't read. Like, you know, that you my god, this is deja vu all over. And you know what? The outcome's the same, which is kind of funny. Nothing has really changed. Mike: Except for we're not getting Jalenisms. Jamal Smith: Yeah, but I think Joe's Risi: Yeah. Jamal Smith: right. Like, so you remember what Joe used to say, but like everything's gotta be perfect. Like the situation Risi: Mm-hmm. paul: Everything has to be Jamal Smith: he needs to live, he thrives in a perfect environment. So if anything's off, it's like this dude just can't hack it. Now the line's off. paul: But you guys, in in life, you have to be comfortable by being uncomfortable sometimes. No, no, no, no. But what I'm saying is Mike: I thought you were s I thought you were gonna spit some isms out right now when you were sitting like I thought you were Risi: Ha ha. paul: we saw examples of the first two games where I think he was uncomfortable, but he was trying to make it work. Mike: Yeah. paul: And then it's like second half comes, shotgun, shotgun, all the nonsense we're seeing. In other games, and I'm talking sh crappy teams. We're seeing pre-snap motion. We're seeing creativity. They cannot do it. Because number one business decision, the brand, when when he does this or whatever he's doing and there's a lot going on guys. Joe: Can now can I can I ask a question? Cause I you guys I wasn't away for the first two games. So I got to see most of them, but you know, reception wasn't good. It was like cruise ship Wi Fi, whatever. I can't remember a single offensive drive this year where they s just systematically went down the field and scored. Not once. Right? Am I wrong? Mike: game game two. Who'd we play game two? Joe: Do am I forgetting something? Two, okay. Mike: we played Washington first. Should we play the second game? We played Tennesse Tennessee. Tennessee. I think the second drive at it was the second Joe: Wasn't that like a big broken play though? Wasn't it like a big broken play, like a blown coverage or something? Mike: drive at Tennessee. He kind of went right down the field and scored. Didn't we? Yeah. Joe: Okay, so it's happened once. We don't the offense doesn't play in the other team's side of the field either. I don't know if you guys know that either. It's like we Risi: Yeah. Jamal Smith: No, they just don't. Joe: play on our own side and and it's like Mike: I mean, I think we all can admit the two wins were almost losses and they weren't great Joe: Yeah. Mike: wins. Like they were kinda ugly. Risi: And the two losses were almost wins. paul: And you guys, we're also old school, right? So like we're used to like the first fifteen. Like, you know, you know, you come out, you have a game plan for your offense for the first four fifteen. It's scripted. You know, like like our podcast. Like, you know, we have we follow a little script or whatever, but it's it's boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. But to what Joe just asked, it's like Boom, scratch claw. Boom. I don't know. Ooh, ooh, did he catch it? I hope he c Joe: It's a slot machine. We're pushing buttons and hoping something happens. It's like playing Street Fighter Two when you're six years old. Like you don't really know what's going on. You're hitting buttons and sometimes you do fucking tiger uppercut, you know. And yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Jamal Smith: And the other team's a fucking teenager. The other team's a teenager. paul: And Chris Chris, I see your face, but it's killing me too saying this 'cause I fought Risi: huh. paul: the good fight for Q B one, dog, but Risi: That's Joe: But Risi: what I'm saying. Like, I I don't have I don't Joe: button mashing. We're just fucking button mashing. In-Person: Rhythmic ball play. Risi: have much to go I'm trying here. I love QB1, but like the facts, I can't deny the facts, man. The button mashing button mashing In-Person: Number one is hard. Joe: That's what this is. It's the button mashing offense. Risi: is perfect. Jamal Smith: Just Blanca. Blanca in the middle of the field on fire. Like hoping you jump into the fucking Joe: Right. paul: You guys, Risi: And like hold hold hold on I gotta go back to the button mesh. paul: all all of our listeners, all of our listeners, I want us to all watch Thursday night football this upcoming week and just watch the offenses. Even a bad team at least has an idea of what they're doing. Risi: I can't get this out of my head, babe. Like, I'm just imagining you're playing against an opponent and he's trying paul: Yeah. Risi: to do the special combo. And meanwhile, some dude just low-kicking you to death, but you're like, hold on, I gotta get this special combo. And he still whoops your ass. One time you do get it and you win, but otherwise, paul: Yeah. Risi: my God, that is per paul: And that's what it looks like right now, guys. Joe: Button mashing Mike: Yeah. Jamal Smith: It Joe: offense. Mike: Yeah. All right. Jamal Smith: Yo, Assyriani lost the team, yo. Do you think do you think that's part of the issue? He just fucking lost them. Joe: yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's easy to do when things aren't going good. Risi: Yeah. Mike: Yeah. I d but Risi: bro. Mike: again I I d I don't know. I don't know if I feel that way. I don't know if I think he lost the team. paul: I don't know either, Jamal, because he takes a lot of bullets. Remember the quote that they said about him last year? Joe: Every coach does that, Paul. You're giving him too much credit. Every coach comes out when there's a bad game and they take the and they take credit for Mike: They've they came to this D this banged up team missing all those players came out two weeks in a row ready to go. So did he did Jamal Smith: They did. Mike: he lose them? Jamal Smith: Well what the fuck paul: They did. Jamal Smith: is going on with half we cannot get away from this. I have never seen shit like this before either. Like what the fuck? DA comes out, he's Mike: I think Jalen talks at halftime. Jalen talks. Jamal Smith: like, even when you successfully cut the grass, you still end up with stains on your sneakers. They're like, what? Like what the fuck are you talking about? Risi: Ha ha ha. Jamal Smith: Shut the fuck up, Jalen! Mike: I need to mark the video. There we go. Joe: Low kick, low kick, low kick, low kick, low kick, low kick. Mike: All right, let's get let's get there. Brother Bird. Joe, who's your broader bird? Joe: somebody on the Cooper Dejean. Yeah, two tackles for losses and like, I don't know, eleven tackles. Mike: Donkey. Joe: My donkey is Jalen Hurts. paul: My bros Joe's one of the fans of Philly, 'cause they showed up and showed out. Joe: I didn't go with them. paul: They showed up and showed out in London, man. I mean, it was loud there. I mean Joe can attest to it. He was in the building. my donkey, obviously, I mean, on my pie chart, Nick Siriani. Mike: Chris. Risi: Ugh, all right, so my bro and a bird, I'm gonna go with it representing all the short men out there. I'm gonna go Willie Lampkin. Willie representing paul: I like that. Jamal Smith: Short kings. Risi: short kings. Joe: Short kings. Risi: Bro and a donkey. I was gonna give it to him. First time for me. Gonna give it to Jalen Hurts. that pains me. Mike: Ma Jamal Smith: Ooh, it was a tough one. I I gotta go Jalen Carter though. bro and a bird. I think we all been dying to see him look like the Jalen Carter we know he could be, and he was out there making it happen. He was the engine. I mean, he kept he kept Lawrence under pressure, made some really heads up plays. It's a shame we didn't get a win, cause he did everything that he could. Yeah, Mike: He played yeah, he plays that off. Jamal Smith: he played his fucking ass up. On a donkey. I gotta I gotta go special teams. You know what? I said the shit earlier, it was like foreshadowing, it was like I was fucking watching a good movie. Like how they had that touchdown taken away from them earlier. So as soon as we kicked that field goal, I just knew. I just knew that it was gonna come back to haunt us and they were gonna take advantage. And that's exactly what they did. And special teams just needs to be better. I can I can put it on the coaching, but at the end of the day, players are on the field. Make a tackle. You're in the NFL. What the fuck are you doing? Mike: Yeah. I I'm gonna go Jalen Carter as my Brona bird as well. I think he balled out. And then I'm glad I was able to sway the two Jalen lovers into Jalen haters to this week and two of you named Jalen as the Brona donkey. But I'm gonna go at special teams because I agree. If the coach took a fell on the sword and they didn't kick it out of bounds on by accident and the coach ate the responsibility for it. And if they did mean to not kick it out of bounds, they should have been able to tackle the person without getting all those yards, or they should have been able to tackle and eat the whole eight seconds up and they didn't do it. So that's my bro and a donkey. I'll be here next week to influence you also to pick Jalen Hurts as your bro. Jamal Smith: we got a pull out hater now, huh? I love it. Mike: I'm yeah, I'm I I think I'm done. I tried. I tried. Joe: Yeah, I'm done. I'm done. He's gotta sh he's gotta show me something. Risi: I'm not done. paul: Yeah, until he proves otherwise. yeah. Jamal Smith: Not out yet. I'm not out Risi: You're done too? Jamal Smith: yet. Risi: Sizzle, you're done? Jamal Smith: Damn. paul: Honeymoon's over, man. He's gotta start playing ball, man. Joe: Dude, Risi: my Joe: wait way do you see this Risi: gosh. Joe: week? He's playing against the Panthers. Wait do you see Jamal Smith: You're me. You're me. Joe: this week? They're gonna fuck him up. Yeah. paul: Well, their defense sucks. So if they can't do anything this week and make Mike: They're gonna fuck up. They're paul: it look somewhat re r respectable, then yeah, we in big trouble, bro. Big trouble. Mike: Joe, wha what what was the magic number for Jalen Hurts passing attempts? Joe: twenty tw like less than twenty five. It Risi: Twenty four. Joe: was like eighteen eighteen to twenty four a game. Mike: Twenty four, paul: He was Mike: right? It was twenty under twenty five. paul: twenty one for forty. Risi: Twenty four. Mike: Yeah, you know what he and how many times he had last week? Forty. Yep. Joe: Forty, forty something. Yeah. paul: Forty. Mike: Yep. Jamal Smith: Yeah, it's too many. Just too many. Joe: Yeah, but that's Risi: We don't have a running back. Joe: that's how the NFL goes. This is the NFL Jamal Smith: Yeah. Joe: like standard issue offense. It's you know Mike: I mean I I I I think you had to do that. you had to do it last week because you didn't have a run game. And I don't think we're gonna have a run game. So w where was Carson Steele at? You elevated him. Where was he at? We could have used a little. Joe: It probably doesn't even know the place. Mike: So it don't matter. Jamal Smith: Yeah. Mike: Don't matter. Johnny Majors made it in. Michael and the other porn star make it in. paul: Yeah. Jamal Smith: Johnny Major. Yo, what Kilby, because you mentioned the running game, and it did kind of kill me. We it was seven, seven, I guess. And then we came out and we're like, no, they scored. We can't run anymore. And just Mike: Yeah. Jamal Smith: like, what the fuck are we doing? Jalen is not that guy. if we're down by two, I get you have to pass every down. But the running game should be intertwined in everything, working or not. He you cannot I don't believe they're ever going to be relying on him to throw 40 times a game. And be successful. I don't think that's the day. Mike: All right, we spent a lot of time on last week's game, so we're just gonna skip right ahead to this week's game. Eagles versus Panthers. The Eagles are two and three. We've lost three straight. the first loss was like brutal because we absolutely just got our ass kicked, but the second two we we just kicked our own ass. we're coming home after a brutal ending in London. This is a must win game because if we lose to Carolina, we're gonna have really uncomfortable conversations next Tuesday. 'Cause then I'm probably gonna hate Jalen and the coach. So w we'll get it a little bit deeper. Jamal Smith: Yeah. Mike: Chris, what's the single biggest thing the Eagles need to fix before Sunday? Risi: You got me depressed, Mike. You did a nice job depressing me on my J on my Jalen my Jalen love. So excellent job. Nice nice there. What do we need to fix? Yeah, In-Person: Yeah. paul: Ha ha ha. Risi: what do we need to fix? I mean, it's as simple as like our second half. Like it that's the number one score points in the second half. That's it. Like we s we've been saying that now way too long. Mike: You're you're not even third quarter, you're just second half. Risi: Just I'll tell I'll take I I will take a touchdown in the fourth quarter at this point. You know, like this is it's embarrassing. It really is embarrassing to watch. It's borderline just unwatchable. So i because it got because I'm not gonna try they could be up 42 to nothing, and I'm not gonna trust it going into the half. I'm just not gonna trust it. Mike: All right, Paul. We're more than likely still gonna be dealing with injuries in the running back position. So what the fuck do we do? paul: Alec Pierce will be the the head guy this week, unfortunately. I mean he's had some history with Houston. Or was it the Colts? I forget where it came from. Okay. Okay. That's the Mike: It was it was Houston. It was Houston. He came from Pierce. Pierce came from Houston. And it's it's him and it's him and Steele, right? That's gonna be the two that go. paul: way it's looking right Jamal Smith: Arsen Steel. paul: now. you guys, Gotta hope for Pierce. And you gotta hope that his calf stream, the reason why he's not running. And the business decisions go in the in the suitcase for a week and he comes out running the damn ball because we need him to use his legs. I'm sorry, Jalen. If you're not gonna throw the ball the way we want you to, you gotta use your legs. So the run game Mike: But that but paul: with him and Pierce has to play it. factor this week. Mike: we did host Jaquindon Jackson, running back. paul: Who's that? Mike: Free agent running Jamal Smith: thank God. Mike: back. paul: Don't know him. Joe: okay. Mike: You may recall a scary moment when Jackson was taken off the field in an ambulance after he injured in the opening kickoff Eagles preseason game in New England. Yep, that's who it paul: Yeah, I do. Mike: is. Jamal Smith: Yeah, I don't want him. Risi: He's a liability. Mike: Yeah, 'cause I mean Saquon has a hamstring injury. There seems to be hope that he could come back week six. Tank is on IR. Will suffered a foot injury. So yeah. Joe: Can Corey Clement still play? Risi: Yeah, on it on it Mike: He's gotta be Jamal Smith: He's Jack. Risi: Yeah. On a side note though, like I feel like every team's dealing with injuries. This is the most injuries I've ever seen in NFL season. This is a Mike: I it's gotta be for a season, yeah. I agree. Risi: lot. Mike: All right. I agree that Paul, I think Jalen needs to run this week. They gotta put it in the playbook. He's gotta run. We we gotta keep the team away. We gotta keep him on his twenty five passing attempts. Jamal, what worries you about Carolina? paul: Mm-hmm. Jamal Smith: I don't even know if it's what worries me about Carolina as much as what worries me about us not learning how to beat blitzes. Jalen Phillips is on our team, right? It's pretty fucking good. He can get to the QB. Everyone seems to be able to get to the QB on us. If we do not have plays in place that Jalen can execute that beat this blitz, they're just gonna keep on blitzing. Because that's really what we're seeing. Every team seems to have a way to beat a blitz to a certain extent, whether it's like Jaden Daniels and his fucking legs or you know what I mean? Like everyone's got a way. We have no way to beat the blitz. He just looks like he can't find a litter box every time they blitz. I don't know Risi: Yeah. Jamal Smith: I don't know what to do about that. But that's what I worry about. That's that's my main concern, man. Mike: So that that leads us right to Joe. What does Hertz need to do to restore some confidence in him? Joe: That's easy. I mean, he needs to go for 303. I mean, every quarterback does that a couple of times a year, don't they? paul: Facts. Joe: Everybody does. And Paul, you're like, what what do you you have injuries at running back? What you do is you throw the ball. But with this team, for whatever reason, we just can't throw the you throw the ball 40 to 45 times a game when you're having trouble running the ball. We can't do that and be effective. We throw the ball forty times and we get forty points and seven of them came on a fucking broken play. And the other one, I think the other touchdown we scored came on a pass interference, or it's like I said, it's button mashing, cobble some shit together. Hopefully the dice comes up, boxcars, and you get a touchdown. There it there's you know what worries me about Carolina, there's a second half to the game and that they're an NFL team. Mike: We're not. We're not we're not in the second half. paul: Joe, Joe, Joe's preach preaching In-Person: Rhythmic ball play. paul: the gospel right now. I mean, he's absolutely right. There's a second half, and after everybody gets their Joe: Me none of these are hard questions or what they need to do. They just Jalen Hurts can't execute any of these things. He can't he just I I don't think he's able. Prove me wrong. God prove Risi: Yeah, it's it's reality. In-Person: Rhythmic ball play. Joe: me wrong. In-Person: Rhythmic ball play. Joe: Yeah. Jamal Smith: Yeah, I w I miss it. Mike: All right. If we lose to Carolina, we're gonna go in I'm gonna go Chris Paul Joe Jamal in that order. If we lose to Carolina, should Sirianni still be the head coach on Monday morning? Risi: Absolutely. Mike: Paul paul: Yes. Mike: Joe. Tomorrow. Jamal Smith: I think he has to be what time is taken. Mike: Yeah, I think he he I think he gets this week. And then maybe if it if it drops the next if it drops the following one, I think it's done. Jamal Smith: Yeah, he might Joe: I Jamal Smith: get to he might get toppered. Joe: I'm ready to burn it down. I mean, unless they beat them 35 to 6 or something and Jalen throws for 303 touchdowns, I'm ready to burn this whole fucking thing. paul: Mike, I know we're short Risi: Wow. paul: for time, but if Mike: Yeah. paul: if if Nick goes, then that's the end of the hurts error because because because because Mike: absolutely. It's a package deal. It's a package deal. Jamal Smith: Yeah, it's over. It's over. Joe: yeah, yeah, yeah. paul: yes, because Nick and Jalen is a package deal. Joe: Brian Flores is not coming in here and dealing with that. He would love the coach's defense, I guarantee you. But he is not dealing with that nonsense. Because this shit that Mike: Joe's already got a name. paul: Mm-hmm. Joe: we're dealing with is nonsense. It's fucking nonsense. paul: It is nonsense right now. Jamal Smith: It is. paul: We gotta call it what it is, man. It it hurts me. Risi: But it's our nonsense. It's our nonsense. You would have burned it down, man. In-Person: We're gonna get touched in bad ways. Joe: We got to and we did. We got touched in the worst way. Jamal Smith: We did. Yeah, we did. Risi: We did. Mike: All right. Go ahead, Jimon. Jamal Smith: Yo well one more one more quick question. And I know it's too early to make this decision, but I'm starting to feel like there is a chance that Nick Siriani may be the worst coach ever to win a Super Bowl. Joe: no. paul: Mm-mm. Jamal Smith: And I'm I'm not even saying that Mike: I mean you can't go off his record. You can't go off his record. Yeah, what about the dude Jamal Smith: I'm I'm I'm not even saying I have to cut down. I I just paul: Mm mm. Joe: No. Mike: fr what about what's his name? from Baltam from I was Barry Switcher. paul: Barry Switzer? Barry Switzer? Barry Switzer Joe: The old coach Barry Switzer, the coach he did it with Jamal Smith: Barry sweeter. Joe: Jimmy John. Yeah, yeah, Barry Switzer. He was the worst. paul: is the worst coach that's ever won a Super Bowl. Jamal Smith: mean he stole that. Yeah, he he he was gifted that. Brian Billick? Mike: B Baltimore fucking what's his name? what the fuck's his name? Brian Billick. Joe: No, no, no, no, no, no. Not Brian Billock. He's a solid coach. Jamal Smith: He was good though for a long time. His team always looked good on the field. paul: He was good for a little bit. He was good for a little bit. In-Person: That's okay. Joe: Yeah, he's a solid coach. Barry Switzer was was a moron. He was a college coach who won a Super Bowl with Jimmy Johnson's team. So we did. paul: Nick Siriani, Barry Switzer, Jamal Smith: That's fair. I mean Mike: I mean look at look at look at Nick but Nick's got a really good w win loss ratio. Like you can't get past that, dude. paul: But so do Jalen. Joe: Okay, some Jamal Smith: Yeah. Joe: someone out great. He's gonna get another job. Like he's gonna get hired again next season. Siriani, he'll get hired next season as a head coach. He will have another head coaching job. Mike: Yeah, absolutely. Nick paul: Who who who who is? Nick? As a head coach? I got green I got green Risi: Nick, yeah. Hundred percent. Yeah. Mike: Yes. paul: money. I got green money saying he doesn't get another head coach's job after this. Joe: No, he'll he'll Jamal Smith: I think he'll get another one. I think we'll get another one. Joe: get another head coaching job. There's a lot of dysfunctional, there's a lot of dysfunctional organizations in the NFL. Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Browns, you know, we can name him. That he will have a job next year. It won't be on a good team, and they're gonna expect him to recreate the magic that we had for, you know, a couple of years here in Philly. We did. You know, it was a good ride. The dude, he's a wild man. He's a wild card. But when he loses it, he loses it. It's gone. Jamal Smith: Yeah. Joe: I think it's gone. Risi: Now does b does Big Dom go with him? Mike: No, Big Dom's a Philly staple. paul: Yeah, Jamal Smith: Yeah paul: he's a C he ain't Jamal Smith: he ain't go nowhere. paul: going nowhere. Joe: He's here as long as I think the owner is the owner. Mike: He's gonna be Yeah, and let's be real paul: Big Dom might actually might be happy he goes. Risi: Lori. Mike: and let's be realistic. Next year Big Dom's pro Big Dom's probably gonna be in jail after the manual Ocho scandal that's going on. All Risi: Yeah. Joe: No. Jamal Smith: Yeah, they can't touch him. Mike: right. Jamal predictions next week. Jamal Smith: Ooh. You know what I I I still Risi: where we at too? Joe: Can I can I before before we do predictions, can I do do a joke I just thought of? City of Jamal Smith: Here we go. Joe: Phil the city of Philadelphia can't put Big Dom DeSandro in jail because, you know, the mayor can't even put people in jail who are like high in Kensington in jail. You're not gonna put him in jail. Jamal Smith: Correct. I think he's from South Philly, right? He might know some people, you know what paul: What's wrong with you? Jamal Smith: I mean? It's gonna be it's gonna be hard to get him. It's gonna be Mike: sorry. Jamal Smith: hard to take down Big Dom. Mike: Sorry, Chris. I saw I it. Jamal Smith: Mm. Risi: Yeah. Mike: I couldn't get there fast enough. I saw your finger go up. what's your prediction, Jamal? Jamal Smith: I'm gonna remain optimistic. Preseason's over. Last week was the first real season game. they're gonna start putting it together. Risi: Haha. Jamal Smith: I can't even say this shit with a straight face. 2017 Eagles. In-Person: Yeah. Risi: No. Joe: That would not be convincing. That's a cobbled together shit button mashing win. Mike: Chris, what do got? Risi: It's fuck my god, I got nothing. You guys have you got any ounce of of hope I had, you guys have done a great Jamal Smith: Ha ha ha. Risi: job snuffing In-Person: Hello there. Risi: it out. I'm still going with a victory. I believe in this team. We're believing QB1. I Jamal Smith: Yes. Risi: am gonna go with a 32. In-Person: I'm over here stroking my dick. I got lotion on my dick right now. I'm just stroking my shit. Risi: To twenty four win. Jamal Smith: Yes. Mike: Paul Paul, what do you got? paul: I got the Eagles winning in a convincing manner. If not, we're in big trouble. I got us going twenty seven, fourteen birds. Mike: Joe, I'll let you go last. I'll go next. I got the birds winning seven to three. Joe. Risi: Ha ha ha. Joe: I I me Mike, me and you are in the same fucking wave life today. I Mike: Yeah. Joe: I think the Eagles win. Okay. And I never say the Eagles win. I think they w but it but Mike: fuck. paul: No, you don't. Joe: it's but it is a In-Person: Yeah. Joe: fucking, like I just said, Street Fire 2, just smash the buttons, you steal one, a bunch of goofy shit happens, pass interference. Yeah, something stupid. Thirteen Eagles Mike: Eleven and nine. Joe: win thirteen to ten, and we're still saying the same stuff next week. Jalen throws for a hundred and twenty yards, an interception, and a touchdown. And this Jamal Smith: Mm-hmm. In-Person: We do not care. Joe: is where we're at, guys. Mike: With that, Jamal, where are we at in our yearly picks? I think we're all shit to bed at this point. Jamal Smith: Yo, we're we're we're actually locked up. This is a way better competition than last year, although Mike, you were kinda you're you're in the lead. So you're four and one. you're killing it right now. I am three and two. Chris is sitting at three and two. Joe, I mean, you already know this. You're sitting at two and three. You picked all the fucking wins the first five weeks. Joe: Yeah. Jamal Smith: you were very confident this year. Mike: That's why we're w to g back to Chris's point. This whole season is Joe's fucking fall. Joe's fuck paul: Yeah, yeah, Jamal Smith: He was aggressively picking wins when we were doing this shit. Mike: Yeah. And look and think about it, like and I'm pissed off the where we are, but I'm only off by I like I picked every game right except for one. So like I ha Jamal Smith: Yeah, you're not doing bad. Mike: record wise I'm only off by one game and I'm fucking furious right now, but this is where I had anyway. What did I get wrong? paul: Mike, which one did you get wrong? Jamal Smith: Yeah. The Rams. Mike: The Rams game. Jamal Smith: And they paul: Okay. Jamal Smith: should have won. They should have won that fucking game. paul: Respect, respect. Mike: But I I had them losing against the Bears and I had them losing in London. Yeah, we're gonna lose Joe: I said they're gonna win. I'm saying they're gonna win this week. I'm saying they're gonna win this week. paul: Respect. Mike: now. Jamal Smith: Yeah. You said they w Joe: It's Jamal Smith: you said they were gonna win in the thing too. So we all said they were gonna win except Paul. also, Paul is currently three and two. We're all in this shit. paul: Rico. Jamal Smith: Ever it it's up for grabs. Mike: Paul yeah. So it so if we if paul: I'm on your heels, Mike. Mike: Paul said we lose this week? Jamal Smith: Paul's the only one who caught a loss here. Mike: shit, so if we when when we lose w the four of us will be wrong and Paul will be right. And it's tied up. Jamal Smith: High stakes. Mike: Alright, that's gonna be it for another episode of Bros and Birds. We crabbed across the pond, we watched the Eagles find a new way to lose in eight seconds. And now we're staring at two and three record, wondering what the hell happened. Thanks to everybody who joined us tonight, to Joe for giving us first hand London experience. Hopefully next time one of us crosses the ocean to watch the birds, they remember they're supposed to win. Follow us, like our videos, subscribe, share the show with your fellow miserable Eagle fans. You can find bros and birds anywhere you watch or listen to podcasts. For Chris Paul, Jamal Joe, myself, we'll see you next week. Hopefully we'll be talking about a win instead of another creative way to lose. Go Birds. Jamal Smith: Go bird. Joe: Go birds. Risi: Kill birds. paul: Run the ball, Jalen.
