- 2:53Speaker 3: But Nick, there's no way of telling which boy did it.
- 2:55Speaker 3: They were all shooting at once.
- 2:56Speaker 4: That's the point. Pat said. They were all in on it,
- 2:58Speaker 4: and legally they're all good guilty.
- 3:00Speaker 3: Oh no, Nick, not Bubbs, maybe the others.
- 3:03Speaker 4: That's see, I'm afraid the law won't make any distinction
- 3:05Speaker 4: in his case.
- 3:05Speaker 5: You mean that if one of the others fired that
- 3:07Speaker 5: shot and Bubbs didn't even know it he's guilty.
- 3:10Speaker 6: Yes, technically he's guilty of murder at the age of twelve.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Now the Case of the Littlest Gangster Today's adventure starring
- 3:21Speaker 2: Lon Clark as Nick Cutter. Drop Till You Buy new,
- 3:24Speaker 2: post war old Dutch cleanser. A fleshy, cream colored convertible
- 3:29Speaker 2: is parked along a dark street in the poorer section
- 3:31Speaker 2: of the city, with two small figures crouched in the
- 3:33Speaker 2: front seat talking in whispers.
- 3:37Speaker 7: Bubbs, will you quit chewing that bubblegum in my ear
- 3:39Speaker 7: and hand me that.
- 3:40Speaker 3: Piece of wire? Okay, Tim, but do you think we order?
- 3:44Speaker 3: I will be driving this hack away in a minute.
- 3:46Speaker 3: You see me?
- 3:47Speaker 7: Why I passed the ignition in a car before this,
- 3:50Speaker 7: but only till we could go for a rind. We
- 3:53Speaker 7: never stole one before. We gotta start sometime, which supposedly
- 3:59Speaker 7: I wasn't doing nothing, mister my car, Oh you leave him?
- 4:04Speaker 3: Go turn on long cue.
- 4:06Speaker 4: Leave you're kick in your little sport a grand Bumbs.
- 4:09Speaker 4: I'll learn you to pull with Moxie Reid.
- 4:11Speaker 3: Gee you ain't Moxie Reid.
- 4:14Speaker 4: Huh So you heard him?
- 4:15Speaker 3: You let him go with kicking at him? Bumbs. This
- 4:18Speaker 3: is Moxie Reid. He's big time stuff.
- 4:21Speaker 4: Eh. I guess you do know about me?
- 4:25Speaker 7: Honest, Moxie, we'd have never touched this crative. We hadn't
- 4:27Speaker 7: known it was yours.
- 4:28Speaker 4: Okay, okay, so I don't let it happen again.
- 4:32Speaker 3: He ain't calling the cops.
- 4:35Speaker 8: Me and the cops ain't very friendly. But you two
- 4:38Speaker 8: better grow up before you try lifting another cop.
- 4:40Speaker 3: But Moxie, we gotta pull something big.
- 4:43Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 4:43Speaker 7: How come we got a gang, see the East Side Scorpions,
- 4:47Speaker 7: And we made a club room in an old empty
- 4:49Speaker 7: house on Porter Street.
- 4:50Speaker 3: And the place corn on fire from his cigarette or something.
- 4:53Speaker 3: And it's just an old dump.
- 4:55Speaker 7: But old lady Taultman, the lady across the street, she
- 4:58Speaker 7: owns the joint, see, and she he says, if we
- 5:00Speaker 7: don't pay two hundred dollars for the damage, she's gonna
- 5:02Speaker 7: have us all put in reform school.
- 5:04Speaker 4: How'd she know was your gang that'started the fire?
- 5:07Speaker 3: Oh? Oh, mister Riley's seen us coming out of the joint.
- 5:10Speaker 7: He lives across the street too, right next door to
- 5:13Speaker 7: and he squealed on us.
- 5:14Speaker 4: Who just say squealed? Oh?
- 5:16Speaker 3: Man Riley, he used to be a cop tail he
- 5:18Speaker 3: got too old.
- 5:20Speaker 7: So yeah, now all he does is sit out on
- 5:22Speaker 7: his front steps every night and spy on people.
- 5:25Speaker 4: So you're gonna let a dame shake it out for
- 5:27Speaker 4: two centuries? Eh?
- 5:28Speaker 7: There ain't no way to stop her, Moxie. That's where
- 5:31Speaker 7: we figured on swiping a car to get the dough.
- 5:34Speaker 8: If it was my gang, I saw a scare and
- 5:36Speaker 8: it was so she wouldn't dare go to the cups.
- 5:38Speaker 8: What would you do, Moxie, I get me a ride.
- 5:40Speaker 8: That's what I'd make sure the other guys my gang
- 5:43Speaker 8: had him two.
- 5:44Speaker 4: Oh, gun scares you hate?
- 5:47Speaker 7: No, don't scare us. We've been wanting to heat her
- 5:50Speaker 7: for a long time, ain't we, Bubbs?
- 5:53Speaker 3: Yeah, sure's him.
- 5:55Speaker 8: Look if your kids really want to know how to
- 5:58Speaker 8: handle this, all, dame be up in Mike Rapper's pool
- 6:01Speaker 8: room someday after you get yourself some guns.
- 6:14Speaker 5: The reason I came to see mister Carter's my Bubbs
- 6:16Speaker 5: isn't really a bad boy.
- 6:18Speaker 4: You know that, of course, missus Harris. No boy is
- 6:21Speaker 4: naturally bad.
- 6:22Speaker 3: I remember when Bubbs used to belong to the Downtown
- 6:23Speaker 3: Boys Club. He was about ten years old then, and
- 6:26Speaker 3: the Bubble gum champion of the blog.
- 6:28Speaker 4: That's where they started calling in bobs, isn't it.
- 6:30Speaker 3: Uh huh? He was an awfully cute youngster. He's still is,
- 6:32Speaker 3: miss born.
- 6:33Speaker 5: But there isn't any boys club where we live now,
- 6:35Speaker 5: So well, he's got himself mixed up with this gang.
- 6:37Speaker 4: A gang. He's only about twelve, isn't he?
- 6:40Speaker 3: But the others are all older. If something doesn't have bubble,
- 6:43Speaker 3: turn out to be just as bad as the rest
- 6:45Speaker 3: of Maybe you're exaggerating, missus Harris. They surely didn't start
- 6:48Speaker 3: that fire on purpose. No, but when we looked before,
- 6:51Speaker 3: but wouldn't have leen the breaking in one empty building,
- 6:53Speaker 3: and already they got another place for the gang to meet, deserted.
- 6:56Speaker 3: We'rehouse over by the waterfunt somewhere.
- 7:00Speaker 6: It's not having any place where they're allowed to meet
- 7:02Speaker 6: and to play. The starts a lot of boys breaking
- 7:04Speaker 6: the law.
- 7:04Speaker 3: Oh it's that Tim Newton is the worst. Some thinks
- 7:06Speaker 3: he's gotta be just as tough as Tim is. And
- 7:09Speaker 3: that boy's bed all the way through.
- 7:11Speaker 4: How old is Tim?
- 7:12Speaker 3: Oh, fifteen? He can't be a confirmed criminal at that age.
- 7:17Speaker 3: Jelly almost is now. But there's another hero. He keeps
- 7:20Speaker 3: talking about a gangster name.
- 7:23Speaker 4: Moxie read, Moxie read that is bed.
- 7:27Speaker 3: What am I going to do, mister Connor? If somebody
- 7:29Speaker 3: don't raise two.
- 7:30Speaker 8: Hundred dollars to pay for the damage to that house,
- 7:33Speaker 8: He's gonna have them all the rest.
- 7:34Speaker 6: I'll talk to her, missus Harris, and don't you worry.
- 7:37Speaker 6: We'll get Bob straightened out. I'm only glad you came
- 7:40Speaker 6: to me before he got into any real trouble.
- 7:53Speaker 4: How's that for break, Mike? You're so uptight? Oh yeah,
- 7:56Speaker 4: well on should they put that one ball in the
- 7:58Speaker 4: Connor pocket?
- 7:59Speaker 8: Hey, Moxie, Hi, Tim high aboves tell your min Hi.
- 8:02Speaker 3: Mister reed, Hey we got them guns.
- 8:05Speaker 8: You kids we use the back room. Mic, Yeah, sure,
- 8:09Speaker 8: run ahead, it's white kids. You guys worked fast. They'll
- 8:13Speaker 8: say that we had to.
- 8:15Speaker 7: Old Lady Timman only gave us a week to raise
- 8:17Speaker 7: a dolt one inside.
- 8:23Speaker 3: Maxie, you said you tell us what to do next.
- 8:25Speaker 4: I was just kidding, forget it, but you promised.
- 8:28Speaker 7: So what.
- 8:29Speaker 4: Maybe you'd lost up the deal and squawk to the
- 8:31Speaker 4: cops that I told you what to do.
- 8:33Speaker 7: We ain't no squealing. No, we didn't even tell the
- 8:36Speaker 7: rest of again. They all think it's Tim's idea. We
- 8:39Speaker 7: got the gun, six of them, Yeah, we got it
- 8:42Speaker 7: into a shooting gallery after they closed up last night.
- 8:45Speaker 4: What are they twenty two rifles?
- 8:46Speaker 3: Yeah? And we only done it because you said you
- 8:48Speaker 3: tell us what to do next.
- 8:51Speaker 4: Well it was me.
- 8:53Speaker 8: Yeah, I'd picked me up a car along about eight
- 8:56Speaker 8: o'clock to night and drive by that old dame's house
- 8:59Speaker 8: with a few my gang and shooter. Nah No, that's
- 9:04Speaker 8: enough led to a front window, so she'd be scared
- 9:06Speaker 8: of ever open a trap about me again.
- 9:08Speaker 3: Sure, sure I get it, But Tim, what if she
- 9:11Speaker 3: gets hurt?
- 9:12Speaker 7: Quick beef and will and nobody's gonna get hurt. But
- 9:15Speaker 7: maybe she will do it, Moxie, just like you said.
- 9:18Speaker 7: And we'll do it tonight, missus Telman.
- 9:28Speaker 6: If you'll give the boys enough time to earn the
- 9:29Speaker 6: money to pay for the damage to your building, I'll
- 9:31Speaker 6: personally guarantee that you get every.
- 9:33Speaker 5: Cent, and if you have them sent away to reform school,
- 9:35Speaker 5: you won't be able to collect anything. It is not
- 9:37Speaker 5: the money only, mister Cupp. But someone has got to
- 9:40Speaker 5: do something to break up these kid gangs.
- 9:43Speaker 6: That's terribly I'm trying to do something. Think I can
- 9:46Speaker 6: get a boys club started this neighborhood and.
- 9:47Speaker 4: Then, believe me, it will do no good.
- 9:49Speaker 3: Mister Cuffer, these kits is me. They smash windows.
- 9:53Speaker 4: There still ought to move, Missus Telman, please hold off
- 9:55Speaker 4: a few weeks before having them arrested. It's the only
- 9:57Speaker 4: way you can be sure of getting your money.
- 9:59Speaker 5: Yes, missus, please do that, all right, But if they
- 10:04Speaker 5: step out of light just one more time, I said,
- 10:06Speaker 5: every last one of those kids that I formed school.
- 10:19Speaker 3: Now we like twist these wires together. We'll see if
- 10:21Speaker 3: she starts.
- 10:22Speaker 7: Tim Maybe if we went to old Lady Tillman and
- 10:25Speaker 7: got up, I'm gonna try it. Now she works where
- 10:30Speaker 7: we gonna pick up the other guys at the warehouse.
- 10:33Speaker 7: Are the guns there too, Yeah, and enough bullets to
- 10:36Speaker 7: give old Lady Tellman the scare of her life.
- 10:53Speaker 3: Good night, Missus Telman, good night, mister good night. Good night.
- 11:00Speaker 9: Oh well, I think we've put in a good day's work, Nate,
- 11:09Speaker 9: I do too.
- 11:10Speaker 4: I still want to talk to Bob.
- 11:13Speaker 3: It's almost eight o'clock. He got to be home by now.
- 11:15Speaker 4: All right, Let's go by there and see look at
- 11:17Speaker 4: that car.
- 11:18Speaker 3: Racing up the street. Isn't as Brugs leaning out the
- 11:20Speaker 3: front window.
- 11:22Speaker 4: Yeah, that's Bob Choy. He he's got a rifle. Look
- 11:24Speaker 4: out good, great, Come on, Patsy.
- 11:31Speaker 3: They were shooting again Missus Telman's house.
- 11:33Speaker 4: This is Taunem, this is team this Smike Carr. Are
- 11:36Speaker 4: you all right? Missus tallman?
- 11:39Speaker 3: I call.
- 11:42Speaker 4: What they tried to kiss me?
- 11:43Speaker 3: Look at my windows, look at the horse in my
- 11:46Speaker 3: flog door.
- 11:47Speaker 4: I'm thankful that none of the horlets hits you. I
- 11:48Speaker 4: was afraid that. That's what's the matter.
- 11:50Speaker 3: You come down here. The next story must have been
- 11:54Speaker 3: hit by a stray bullet that I think he's dead.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Only a few steps beyond the bullet riddle front door
- 12:05Speaker 2: of Missus Telman's home lies the body of the man
- 12:08Speaker 2: who had informed on the juvenile gang ex police Officer Riley.
- 12:11Speaker 2: We'll see what happens in just a minute. Now back
- 12:19Speaker 2: to the case of the Littlest Gangster. Today's adventure with
- 12:22Speaker 2: Nick Carter, brought to you by new post war old
- 12:25Speaker 2: Dutch cleanser. Nick is examining the body of James Riley,
- 12:29Speaker 2: lying dead on the steps of his home following a
- 12:31Speaker 2: hail of bullets intended to frighten his neighbor, Missus Telmany.
- 12:36Speaker 4: All right, keep back, everybody, please, The place shall be
- 12:38Speaker 4: here in a minute. Wouldn't be right.
- 12:40Speaker 3: It's such a nice man, not those fruitlous. Did you
- 12:47Speaker 3: see the missing carter? Do you know who it was?
- 12:49Speaker 4: Afraid?
- 12:50Speaker 3: It was the boys who said prior to your building,
- 12:51Speaker 3: Missus Telman, we recognize one of them.
- 12:53Speaker 2: Just before the shooting, mostly too Gables.
- 12:56Speaker 4: I said, they want no poot, They should get the
- 12:58Speaker 4: legc chair.
- 12:59Speaker 3: But missus, but they could not kill me.
- 13:02Speaker 4: They should call mister.
- 13:03Speaker 3: I don't believe they did that on purpose.
- 13:05Speaker 4: I know they did.
- 13:07Speaker 3: It was not that him, and they was at me.
- 13:09Speaker 4: He's the one told me this does the fire. That's
- 13:12Speaker 4: so I didn't know that.
- 13:14Speaker 3: It must have been an accident. They were shooting at
- 13:16Speaker 3: the front of your house and one bullet went astray.
- 13:18Speaker 6: Oh Patsy, I don't think it was accidental, but one
- 13:20Speaker 6: that killed him struck the center of his foret and
- 13:23Speaker 6: came out just behind the right ear Riley was sitting
- 13:25Speaker 6: at the top of this flight of stairs. What difference
- 13:27Speaker 6: does that make the difference between an accident and murder?
- 13:30Speaker 5: But even if you're right, how can you ever find
- 13:32Speaker 5: out which of the boys did it. They were all
- 13:34Speaker 5: shooting at once.
- 13:35Speaker 4: That's just the trouble, Patsy.
- 13:36Speaker 6: When one of a group commits murder while they're all
- 13:38Speaker 6: engaged in the crime, they're all equally guilty.
- 13:40Speaker 3: Oh no, you don't mean Bob's that baby goodies.
- 13:44Speaker 4: The cops. Come on, Patsy, help me look for that bullet.
- 13:47Speaker 4: It's the only chance we have to prove exactly who
- 13:49Speaker 4: killed mister Riley right in the corner pocket. Like I said, Okay, okay,
- 14:05Speaker 4: so I owe your four bucks.
- 14:06Speaker 7: You gotta help Maxie the cop scene in may have
- 14:09Speaker 7: your kids right in the back room.
- 14:17Speaker 4: How what do you mean a cop scene.
- 14:18Speaker 7: When we was ditching the car, we let the other
- 14:20Speaker 7: guys out first, and then just as we were with
- 14:22Speaker 7: the guns, they guess the cops got him.
- 14:24Speaker 4: We left him in the car by you idiots.
- 14:26Speaker 3: Sim shits. We gonna run away, unty'll get it. Sure, yeah,
- 14:29Speaker 3: but we doesn't make a break for a few days.
- 14:31Speaker 10: Jah Hot, what are you coming to me for? I
- 14:33Speaker 10: got no place to put you. We already got a place.
- 14:35Speaker 10: Or we can hide out in our clubroom at the
- 14:37Speaker 10: old warehouse. You'll take us there in your car. Won't you, Moxie.
- 14:40Speaker 10: If we go out on the street, they'll get it.
- 14:42Speaker 4: Sure, and you're gonna run away in a few days.
- 14:44Speaker 8: Half.
- 14:45Speaker 4: Yeah, well, maybe that ain't a bad idea.
- 14:48Speaker 3: Will you take it to the warehouse, Moxie?
- 14:50Speaker 4: Will you okay? Kids, I'll do it.
- 14:53Speaker 3: Geez, you're a real pound, Moxie. You're swell.
- 15:07Speaker 4: Any news, Maddy. Eh, Ballistics is making the.
- 15:09Speaker 3: Tests now, Nick, Oh what testes that, sergeant?
- 15:12Speaker 6: They're checking the kid's rifles against the bullet that killed
- 15:14Speaker 6: Riley to see which one fired that particular shot.
- 15:18Speaker 4: Well you've seen, Pats, Everyone of the rifles is covered
- 15:21Speaker 4: with fingerprints. Uh huh.
- 15:22Speaker 6: And when we know which gun killed Riley, we'll know
- 15:24Speaker 6: which kid did it. No sign of Tim and Bubbs yet,
- 15:27Speaker 6: huh No, Nick, But we rounded up the other fourilers
- 15:29Speaker 6: in the car and we'll have them too before long.
- 15:32Speaker 3: I still say it was an accident, a stray bullet.
- 15:34Speaker 6: Look, Patsy, don't make no difference. They were committing a
- 15:37Speaker 6: crime when it happened, so that makes it murder.
- 15:40Speaker 4: Maddy.
- 15:40Speaker 6: I don't go along with that stray bullet theory. Oh
- 15:43Speaker 6: they're probably right, Nick, And if Riley was killed deliberately.
- 15:46Speaker 4: I'll bet Tim Newton was the one that did it.
- 15:49Speaker 3: Why Tim, Sergeant, I've.
- 15:50Speaker 6: Been told he was plenty sore at Riley for telling
- 15:52Speaker 6: the old lady the boys started that firing the building
- 15:55Speaker 6: of hers across the streets.
- 15:56Speaker 3: Well, I'm not surprised at that.
- 15:57Speaker 6: Another reason I think Tim did it is because the
- 16:00Speaker 6: other boys all said that shooting up Missus Tellman's home
- 16:03Speaker 6: was his idea.
- 16:05Speaker 4: I wonder if it was Maddy. I you think the
- 16:08Speaker 4: you think the kids are lying? No, my bubbs' mother
- 16:11Speaker 4: said he and Tim had been hanging around Moxie Read lately.
- 16:14Speaker 4: He maybe you got something, Nick. Moxie's just the kind
- 16:18Speaker 4: of a guy to put ideas like that in the
- 16:20Speaker 4: kid's mind.
- 16:20Speaker 3: Say, who is this Moxie Read? Anyway?
- 16:23Speaker 6: Pass a few years ago, he wasn't much different from
- 16:25Speaker 6: Tim Newton, but he's developed into a first class rap
- 16:28Speaker 6: a cheap gangster. Now, wait a minute, I wouldn't say cheap, Nick.
- 16:31Speaker 6: He's getting plenty a dome from somewhere, or he wouldn't
- 16:34Speaker 6: be able to run around.
- 16:35Speaker 4: That big cream colored convertible he's got. And you can't
- 16:38Speaker 4: get anything on him, man, Nah, No, not lately huh.
- 16:42Speaker 6: You know about seven years ago we tagged him for
- 16:44Speaker 6: a stick up over on the Hey, that's funny.
- 16:50Speaker 4: We'll talk about coincidences.
- 16:52Speaker 3: Oh, what's funny, Sergeant.
- 16:54Speaker 4: The guy that hung that rap on Moxie was Riley,
- 16:57Speaker 4: the man who was killed.
- 16:58Speaker 3: What.
- 16:59Speaker 4: Yeah, he used to be a cop before he retired.
- 17:02Speaker 4: Is hey, Riley was the one who arrested Moxie. Reid.
- 17:04Speaker 4: Sure it was his testimony that sent Moxie up. That's
- 17:07Speaker 4: what I've been looking for, Madie. Somebody who had reason
- 17:10Speaker 4: to hate Riley, somebody beside the kids.
- 17:12Speaker 6: He acts an idea, Nick, Moxie might have got the
- 17:16Speaker 6: kids to shoot up Missus Tellman's home and got one
- 17:19Speaker 6: of them to bump off Riley by telling him it
- 17:21Speaker 6: would look like an accident and nobody could ever prove which.
- 17:24Speaker 4: One did it. Yeah, I could have been that way, Maddy.
- 17:27Speaker 4: But homicide Sergeant Mathison speaking, Oh yeah, yeah, what did
- 17:36Speaker 4: you find out?
- 17:37Speaker 3: Is it the report from ballistics?
- 17:38Speaker 4: Uh? Huh, yeah, go ahead, malloy, It it wasn't. But
- 17:44Speaker 4: what it had to be? Oh you sure you didn't
- 17:48Speaker 4: make no mistake?
- 17:50Speaker 9: I know, but.
- 17:52Speaker 4: Okay, okay, yeah, yeah, thanks. It's a matter of many
- 17:58Speaker 4: you know what, Nick, some of them six guns we
- 18:01Speaker 4: found in the kid's car killed Riley. Good. But what
- 18:05Speaker 4: do you mean good?
- 18:06Speaker 6: It only proves that one of those kids knew he
- 18:08Speaker 6: was gonna kill Riley. That's why he took the gun
- 18:12Speaker 6: away and hit it so he couldn't identify it.
- 18:14Speaker 4: It may change your mind.
- 18:15Speaker 6: After we talked to Tim and Bubbs, well, well, we
- 18:18Speaker 6: ought to pick him up before long.
- 18:20Speaker 4: Do you want me to give you a ring when
- 18:22Speaker 4: we find him?
- 18:22Speaker 5: No?
- 18:23Speaker 4: No, I don't want to sit around and wait. I'm
- 18:24Speaker 4: going out look for myself. Okay. The meantime, I suggest
- 18:27Speaker 4: you have some of your boys bring in Moxie Reid.
- 18:40Speaker 3: Our club rooms right at the top of these stairs.
- 18:43Speaker 4: Moxie, you sure nobody will come looking around in here?
- 18:45Speaker 7: Hi, this while warehouse ain't been used for years. They
- 18:49Speaker 7: condemned it or something.
- 18:50Speaker 4: Where's the room your kids are gonna hide out in?
- 18:53Speaker 3: It's this door.
- 18:53Speaker 7: We got a padlock on it, so's if anybody ever
- 18:56Speaker 7: did come in here, they wouldn't swipe any of our stuff.
- 18:58Speaker 7: You got the key, Tim, Sure I got it right here. Moxie,
- 19:03Speaker 7: you've been a great guy and we ain't ever gonna
- 19:05Speaker 7: forget it. Yeah, it was just like you belonged to
- 19:08Speaker 7: our game.
- 19:09Speaker 3: Sure, even coming down there to help us out. Told
- 19:13Speaker 3: lady Tillman, tell us what are you talking about? And
- 19:15Speaker 3: you wasn't even gonna tell us. We wouldn't have known
- 19:18Speaker 3: what a swell.
- 19:19Speaker 4: Pad you are.
- 19:19Speaker 3: If Bobs hadn't looked up.
- 19:21Speaker 4: And seen you.
- 19:21Speaker 7: It was swell seeing your standing in that window across
- 19:24Speaker 7: the street, pumping let into the old lady's front door,
- 19:27Speaker 7: just like we was.
- 19:29Speaker 4: So you saw me that.
- 19:31Speaker 3: Yeah, we didn't tell the other guys.
- 19:33Speaker 4: That's good. I'll get in that room.
- 19:36Speaker 3: Come on, Bubbs, Tim, I I think I changed my mind.
- 19:41Speaker 8: Huh.
- 19:42Speaker 3: If I was to run away, well, I did gift
- 19:45Speaker 3: of our kill my mom. I'd rather go to the
- 19:48Speaker 3: reform school.
- 19:48Speaker 4: Are you nuts? Getting side there?
- 19:50Speaker 3: I can't. I'm going back home.
- 19:52Speaker 4: You're going in that room?
- 19:53Speaker 1: Now?
- 19:54Speaker 3: Hey, what's the idea hit a little kid like that?
- 19:56Speaker 4: You're too stupid, Moxie.
- 20:02Speaker 3: Don't like the doorway.
- 20:06Speaker 4: So long? Once? It's been nice knowing.
- 20:20Speaker 3: I think we've been driving along the waterfront for almost
- 20:22Speaker 3: an hour. Isn't it time to give up and go home?
- 20:25Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 20:26Speaker 6: I guess so, Patsy, that's my mother sent the boys
- 20:29Speaker 6: at a clump room in some deserted warehouse in this district.
- 20:32Speaker 4: Seemed the logical place for them to hide out.
- 20:33Speaker 3: Yeah, but it's so dark down here now you can't
- 20:35Speaker 3: even tell which ones are deserted.
- 20:37Speaker 4: I was hoping we'd find him on the street. This
- 20:40Speaker 4: is where they came, though it much as how they
- 20:42Speaker 4: got here first.
- 20:43Speaker 3: We can come back again in the morning.
- 20:45Speaker 4: Hit messy. Look at that car up ahead.
- 20:48Speaker 3: Why it's a big.
- 20:49Speaker 5: Cream colored convertible like the one Sergey Madison said, Nxy
- 20:52Speaker 5: Reid owned.
- 20:53Speaker 4: If I'm not mistaken, that's Moxie getting ready to drive off.
- 20:55Speaker 3: Are you sure?
- 20:56Speaker 4: No, But I'm gonna cut in the head of him
- 20:57Speaker 4: and find out. Hey, what's the big idea? Hey?
- 21:03Speaker 2: Right where you are?
- 21:04Speaker 4: Mate? Thought, I recognize you. What do you want to
- 21:07Speaker 4: give me a medal? No, just want to have a
- 21:09Speaker 4: little talk with you, if you don't mind.
- 21:21Speaker 3: What do you like us in here for? Tim? I
- 21:24Speaker 3: want to go home our quick blubbering? Will you gontchoo?
- 21:28Speaker 7: You a bubblegum? I lost it someplace, Okay, so quit
- 21:31Speaker 7: crying anyway. I ain't gonna let nothing happen to you.
- 21:34Speaker 7: There'll be plenty of people working around this neighborhood in
- 21:36Speaker 7: the morning. If we yell out enough, somebody will come
- 21:39Speaker 7: and let us out. I want to get out, now,
- 21:41Speaker 7: Why you can't? We could yet our lungs out, nobody'd
- 21:44Speaker 7: hear us, So shut up, Tim, Tim, do you smell something?
- 21:50Speaker 3: Huh hey, I think I do. It smells like smoke.
- 21:56Speaker 7: He did smoke, Yeah, and it's stronger over here by
- 21:59Speaker 7: the holy counter building must be on fire.
- 22:02Speaker 3: What are we gonna do? We gotta get out, we can't.
- 22:05Speaker 3: The doors lock cow let us out. Somebody forget it
- 22:09Speaker 3: out of here.
- 22:10Speaker 2: We'll be found out, hoping against hope that someone will
- 22:20Speaker 2: hear them. The two boys pound helplessly against the heavy
- 22:23Speaker 2: locked door. We'll see what happens in just a minute now,
- 22:31Speaker 2: for the conclusion of the case of the Littlest Gangster,
- 22:34Speaker 2: Today's adventure with Nick.
- 22:35Speaker 4: Carter, drop to you by new post war old Dutch cleanser.
- 22:39Speaker 2: Unaware that Timid Bubbs are locked in a burning warehouse
- 22:42Speaker 2: in the deserted waterfront district.
- 22:43Speaker 4: Patsy listens as Nick questions, Moxy Reid, I want to
- 22:46Speaker 4: know where those two kids are.
- 22:47Speaker 8: Read. I don't know what kids you're talking about Oh yes,
- 22:49Speaker 8: you do him Newton and Bubbs Harris. I ain't seen
- 22:52Speaker 8: him in two or three days. Okay, just a minute, Maxy,
- 22:55Speaker 8: you chew gum? No, and I don't go for all
- 22:58Speaker 8: they suckers either doing gum stuck to your trousers leg
- 23:01Speaker 8: and from the color, I'd say it was bubble gum.
- 23:03Speaker 3: Does that mean something?
- 23:04Speaker 8: Nick, Bubb's Harris got his nickname because he's always chewing
- 23:07Speaker 8: bubble gum.
- 23:08Speaker 4: I bet this was some of his. See it hasn't
- 23:10Speaker 4: even begin to dry out yet. Not lots of kids
- 23:12Speaker 4: chew bubble gum. I might have picked it up any place.
- 23:14Speaker 6: And when we find you up here the neighborhood where
- 23:16Speaker 6: we expected to find Bubbs and Tim, I think that
- 23:18Speaker 6: gum means a whole lot.
- 23:19Speaker 9: Nick.
- 23:19Speaker 3: Look across the street.
- 23:21Speaker 4: Those windows warehouses on fire, passion, you better turn into alarm.
- 23:24Speaker 4: There's a box run in front of.
- 23:25Speaker 3: The warehouse, right Nick, I'll get it.
- 23:27Speaker 4: What I got a date, I've got it. What's your hair?
- 23:29Speaker 4: And getting out of him? I mean, I gotta go
- 23:30Speaker 4: up and that you wouldn't know anything about that fire?
- 23:32Speaker 4: Would you? Now watch yourself? I'm gonna start up. You're
- 23:35Speaker 4: not going anywhere, Marx, So you're staying here to I
- 23:37Speaker 4: f I know what making you so jittery all of
- 23:38Speaker 4: a sudden? Why you? I'll you want to play? Do
- 23:40Speaker 4: you for hot?
- 23:41Speaker 8: You like that?
- 23:44Speaker 4: Oh cool? That's the small hearted than I thought? Yeah, hell, Nick, Yes,
- 23:48Speaker 4: what is a passage?
- 23:49Speaker 9: Just if I turned the alarm?
- 23:50Speaker 3: Nick, I thought I heard someone in the building.
- 23:52Speaker 4: Listen, I'll bet that's the boys. You've got to save them, Nick, Yeah,
- 23:56Speaker 4: take my handcuffs, fasten.
- 23:57Speaker 6: Mocks into the steering wind of the car, and I'm
- 23:58Speaker 6: going after those boys before they point of death.
- 24:11Speaker 4: Tim, Tim Bubbs, where are you this door? It's flocked?
- 24:18Speaker 4: Can you open it?
- 24:21Speaker 11: All right?
- 24:21Speaker 4: Stand out of the wake. I'm gonna try to break
- 24:23Speaker 4: it down.
- 24:26Speaker 3: I think it gave a little Try it again, all right?
- 24:33Speaker 3: I was afraid nobody's coming?
- 24:34Speaker 4: Never mind, never mind? Where's Bubbs over there on the floor?
- 24:38Speaker 4: He passed out from the smoke. Okay, I'll carry him.
- 24:40Speaker 4: Come on next.
- 24:41Speaker 3: Look, flames are coming up the stairs. We can't get
- 24:44Speaker 3: out that way.
- 24:45Speaker 4: Is there another way out of here?
- 24:46Speaker 8: Tim?
- 24:46Speaker 3: Hit some windows at the back. Maybe we can jump.
- 24:49Speaker 4: Quick, show me the way. I'll follom with Bubbs. There's
- 24:53Speaker 4: no time to lose.
- 25:08Speaker 3: How's your ankle?
- 25:08Speaker 4: Neck? You stop wearing Patsy. It's all right.
- 25:10Speaker 5: I guess you were lucky at that to get off
- 25:12Speaker 5: with only a sprained ankle after jumping out of a
- 25:14Speaker 5: second story window.
- 25:15Speaker 4: For one, For that pile of trash I landed on,
- 25:17Speaker 4: it might have been worse.
- 25:18Speaker 6: Yeah, And if Bubbs hadn't come too before we jumped,
- 25:21Speaker 6: it would have been very much worse.
- 25:22Speaker 3: I'm glad neither of the kids was hurt, you know, yet,
- 25:25Speaker 3: what's going to happen to them?
- 25:27Speaker 4: Well?
- 25:27Speaker 6: I think I'll be able to get him a suspended sentence,
- 25:30Speaker 6: depending on their future good behavior.
- 25:32Speaker 4: Of course.
- 25:33Speaker 5: Well, now that the boys club is a certainty, their
- 25:35Speaker 5: behavior shouldn't be any problem.
- 25:37Speaker 6: I think they've learned their lesson that since they'll never
- 25:40Speaker 6: admire gangsters again after the way Moxye treated them.
- 25:43Speaker 3: U you never did tell me how you figured out
- 25:46Speaker 3: that Moxie killed mister Riley.
- 25:48Speaker 6: I didn't know it was Moxy, but I was pretty
- 25:50Speaker 6: sure Riley hadn't been shot by one of the boys
- 25:52Speaker 6: in that car. Why because anyone shooting from a car
- 25:55Speaker 6: wouldn't have had the gun more than five feet above
- 25:57Speaker 6: street level, and Riley was sitting on the top step,
- 26:00Speaker 6: his head at least eight feet above street level. Well,
- 26:03Speaker 6: the bullet went into the center of his forehead and
- 26:05Speaker 6: came out behind his right ear, traveling a downward course.
- 26:09Speaker 5: I see, if it had been fired from the car,
- 26:12Speaker 5: the bullet would have traveled upward right.
- 26:14Speaker 6: That's why I thought the bullet might have come from
- 26:16Speaker 6: the second or third story of that empty building across
- 26:18Speaker 6: the street.
- 26:19Speaker 3: It did too, That's where Bob saw Moxy, but the.
- 26:21Speaker 4: Boys thought he was helping them. Frighten missus. Tellman, they
- 26:24Speaker 4: didn't even know Riley had been shot until I told
- 26:26Speaker 4: him so.
- 26:26Speaker 5: That's why Moxy tried to kill the boys by setting
- 26:28Speaker 5: that warehouse on fire, because he knew.
- 26:30Speaker 3: They'd seen him.
- 26:32Speaker 6: See, Moxye had hated Riley ever since Riley sent him
- 26:35Speaker 6: up to the penitentiary for that stick up seven years ago. Yeah,
- 26:37Speaker 6: and when the boys told him of their trouble with
- 26:39Speaker 6: a woman to live next door, and also that Riley
- 26:41Speaker 6: sat on on the front steps of his house every night, Well,
- 26:44Speaker 6: it looked like a perfect setup for murder.
- 26:46Speaker 5: Well, I still don't see how you could ever have
- 26:47Speaker 5: proved it, though. If Moxie hadn't confessed.
- 26:50Speaker 4: We were lucky to get the proof first, and he
- 26:52Speaker 4: confessed later. Wasn't hard once we knew what to look for.
- 26:56Speaker 6: He found the dealer from whom Moxy bought a twenty
- 26:58Speaker 6: two rifle exactly like the one he knew the boys
- 27:00Speaker 6: were gonna use, and later we found the gun itself.
- 27:02Speaker 3: So it wasn't such a perfect setup after all.
- 27:05Speaker 6: Well not for murder, but as far as Marchie was concerned,
- 27:07Speaker 6: it turned out to be a perfect setup for the
- 27:09Speaker 6: electric chair.

- 28:50Speaker 11: the great detectives of old time radio with Adam Graham.
- 28:53Speaker 11: And now let's get back into the show.
- 29:00Speaker 1: Welcome back. Well, once again we hear Nick Carter's focus
- 29:06Speaker 1: on juvenile delinquency, and this is a case where mystery
- 29:11Speaker 1: does definitely take a backseat to the message. But it
- 29:15Speaker 1: certainly was an important issue then as it still reminds today.
- 29:20Speaker 1: And of course we can see some of the things
- 29:23Speaker 1: that were shocking in nineteen forty eight that are probably
- 29:27Speaker 1: sadly less shocking today because of various news events. Well,
- 29:33Speaker 1: now we do turn to listener comments and feedback, and
- 29:39Speaker 1: we do have a new review out on iTunes. Wine
- 29:42Speaker 1: Maker eighteen fifty six rits. I really appreciate Adam's commentary
- 29:47Speaker 1: on the programs he features each day. Backgrounds make the
- 29:51Speaker 1: show more relevant and gives you a hint of what
- 29:53Speaker 1: it was like sixty or seven years ago when these
- 29:56Speaker 1: shows first aired. One of the best things is that
- 29:59Speaker 1: Adam has cleaned up all the static and background noises
- 30:03Speaker 1: that are so prevalent on other OTR podcasts. Keep up
- 30:06Speaker 1: the good work. Well, thank you so much for your
- 30:08Speaker 1: con comments. We we'll give credit where credit is due.
- 30:13Speaker 1: A lot of the cleanup is Andrew Rhyme. Thankfully, we're
- 30:17Speaker 1: blessed at this point in the series. We're not dealing
- 30:21Speaker 1: with a lot of programs that are in really bad shape.
- 30:26Speaker 1: But there are some weeks where I run into an
- 30:30Speaker 1: episode where it's really hard for me to tell what's
- 30:33Speaker 1: going on, and as I'm heading everything uploaded, I'm thinking,
- 30:39Speaker 1: Andrew's gonna have to do a job on this to
- 30:42Speaker 1: get it working correctly. Andrew, of course, does have his
- 30:45Speaker 1: own podcast over at Otrwesterns dot com. If you like
- 30:50Speaker 1: old time radio Westerns, definitely encourage you to check that out.
- 30:54Speaker 1: All right, well, now we do have another announcement. Our
- 30:58Speaker 1: last news showing announcement that we'll have during the listener
