- 0:00Speaker 1: Well, good afternoon, listeners. Thank you for listening to Lament
- 0:03Speaker 1: of Hope podcast. And I'm very grateful. This is going
- 0:08Speaker 1: to be a little unconventional, because if you're watching this,
- 0:10Speaker 1: you're going to see it's just the logo for the podcast.
- 0:14Speaker 1: But Dr. Katina and I really tried, and unfortunately, we
- 0:18Speaker 1: weren't able to do video, but that's okay. I mean, obviously,
- 0:21Speaker 1: there is still, I mean, especially when you speak about
- 0:24Speaker 1: persecution of believers, which is around the world, and we're
- 0:27Speaker 1: seeing a lot of that right now. and persecution of
- 0:30Speaker 1: just religious groups in general. There's a very we versus
- 0:33Speaker 1: them mentality. And it's like, as Christians, we have to
- 0:37Speaker 1: be the ones that are like, no, that's not what
- 0:41Speaker 1: I'm thinking. You're seeing these people fighting you and hurting you,
- 0:45Speaker 1: and you're going, I see the enemy at work here,
- 0:49Speaker 1: but you don't hate those people. But there's the temptation
- 0:52Speaker 1: to go, it's all the people. They're the ones doing
- 0:54Speaker 1: this to me. And it's like, yes, you have to
- 0:57Speaker 1: have responsibility. You have to have boundaries. These are all
- 0:59Speaker 1: important things. You can't just let people do nasty things
- 1:03Speaker 1: to you and just go, well, it's fine. But at
- 1:07Speaker 1: the same time, you have to know where it stems
- 1:10Speaker 1: and comes from because that is the enemy you're facing,
- 1:13Speaker 1: not the actual people themselves. And that's really hard, like
- 1:16Speaker 1: you said.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Yeah, it is. It's very hard because we're humans. So
- 1:21Speaker 2: our reaction is, you know, you get pissed off, you're angry. Like,
- 1:24Speaker 2: why are you doing this to me? but I mean,
- 1:26Speaker 2: our model is always Christ. And, uh, you know, I, I,
- 1:31Speaker 2: I remember during this time, um, you know, my wife
- 1:35Speaker 2: was also getting attacked by the, she's from here. Like
- 1:37Speaker 2: these are, you know, her cousins in a rails. They were,
- 1:40Speaker 2: they were going after like, why are you supporting, you know,
- 1:42Speaker 2: why are you supporting your, your husband? Like you should
- 1:44Speaker 2: also be joining us against him, you know? And she's like, Hey,
- 1:47Speaker 2: my husband. So, you know, we had a lot of
- 1:50Speaker 2: talks and I, Tom would be so angry. I say, look,
- 1:53Speaker 2: we're here as missionaries and this is, this is how
- 1:56Speaker 2: it is. Like expect persecution. If you choose to follow Christ,
- 2:00Speaker 2: Christ told us, right? He said, if you follow me,
- 2:03Speaker 2: you're going to get persecution. You're going to get problems.
- 2:05Speaker 2: It's not going to be easy life. He told us.
- 2:08Speaker 2: So why are we surprised when they come, you know? Um,
- 2:12Speaker 2: so it's like, well, this is just how it is,
- 2:14Speaker 2: you know? So if, if you call yourself a missionary
- 2:17Speaker 2: and you want to follow Christ, look what he did.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Look what happened to him. I mean, Like, what the heck? Okay,
- 2:24Speaker 2: we put up with a few insults, but no one's
- 2:25Speaker 2: going to put us up on a cross and kill us. And,
- 2:28Speaker 2: you know, accused of lying and all the things they
- 2:30Speaker 2: accused him of. So I think we have to keep
- 2:33Speaker 2: that as our model. Like, Christ never fought anybody. You know,
- 2:36Speaker 2: Peter went to cut off the guard's ear and he
- 2:39Speaker 2: rebuked Peter. So he was never, his kingdom is not
- 2:45Speaker 2: about this world. His response is never about violence.
