- 0:00So autism in girls is no exception to the rule.
- 0:03Girls are autistic. It's just as well as boys are
- 0:05autistic. So how do you communicate better
- 0:07and how do you create better communication?
- 0:09I'm covering that right now in this video.
- 0:11Don't go anywhere guys. Welcome back to the Aspect
- 0:13world. My name is Dan, I have autism
- 0:15and ADHD and I'm making weekly videos all about this stuff
- 0:17because I believe to my purpose of life to help autistic
- 0:20individuals grow and flourish into amazing individuals.
- 0:23And really like just set right to that, like ambition of them
- 0:26to be the best they can do, really get their potential out
- 0:29and change the world for the better.
- 0:31So if you want to come on with me for this journey, this
- 0:32mission, this awesome movement we have going on right now,
- 0:35remember to hit the subscribe button by clicking the
- 0:37notification bell down below. Literally it's how I upload
- 0:40video and I pulled 4 videos every day on every social media
- 0:42platform. So yeah, check me out on
- 0:44anything even threads and weird things like Vero guide what's
- 0:48going on. Communication is the core for
- 0:51autism struction condition. There's there's two things that
- 0:53I think are most important with autism that are kind of the most
- 0:56debilitating. One is anxiety, which I have
- 0:59covered in other videos and if you haven't go check out my
- 1:00other videos. There's loads of anxiety.
- 1:02But the other is communication. How do you communicate better
- 1:05with autistic individuals or how do you help girls?
- 1:07Nielsen Structural communicate better?
- 1:09Well, the girls are quite an interesting example here and
- 1:12talking about females now, but males on the Austin Spectrum are
- 1:16less susceptible to masking, which is basically like putting
- 1:19on a front, a kind of, well, putting on a mask or an act if
- 1:23you will, to overcome a certain social situation or a situation
- 1:26of communication that is uncomfortable.
- 1:29So boys in the Austin Spectrum will be more susceptible to just
- 1:32meltdown on that situation or completely shut off from it.
- 1:35Whereas girls will are more have more tendencies to mask or or to
- 1:40pretend to be comfortable in a situation when in actual fact
- 1:42they're dying inside and they just want to go home.
- 1:45And yeah, it just it's just not a a comfortable situation for to
- 1:49be in because what happens is they go home after masking and
- 1:52then have a complete meltdown at home and then it spoils their
- 1:54entire time. Now before I go any further
- 1:57guys, if you want to download my Life Hacks PDF book for autism,
- 2:00you can do autismhacks.net right now.
- 2:03It's completely free. So they got my gifts to you.
- 2:05The link is down below if you want to check it out.
- 2:07So how do you communicate better or how do you teach people to
- 2:09communicate better, especially girls on the autism spectrum?
- 2:12The first thing is validation and acceptance.
- 2:14We have to teach that they should accept themselves of who
- 2:16they are. If they're not comfortable in
- 2:17the situation, then that's OK. Validate their feelings.
- 2:20Tell them that like, hey, it's OK to feel like that it's OK to
- 2:24struggle with communication and that is fine.
- 2:26That's who you are. So once they validate their
- 2:29feelings, once their feelings are heard and they know that
- 2:31what they're doing is nothing wrong, then you can implement
- 2:34things like confidence. How do you build confidence in
- 2:37someone who's feeling terrible at communicating?
- 2:40Where you say to them What medium do you feel best at?
- 2:42Maybe they want to send emoji text messages.
- 2:44Maybe they want to send a voice note.
- 2:46Maybe they want to send emails. Maybe they're going to film a
- 2:48video. I'll send you the video.
- 2:49Maybe they even want a zoom call.
- 2:51When you find the format in which they best relay
- 2:54information, encourage and get them to use that.
- 2:58But when they are using that, they will feel so much more in
- 3:01control of their life. And when you have control, you
- 3:03have confidence. When you have confidence, you
- 3:04have validation, and when you have validation you beam like
- 3:07the sun, you are able to fully be who you want to be.
- 3:09Nobody's holding you back. This is the best way to increase
- 3:12confidence in communication between girls and autism.
- 3:15This will stop a lot of masking going on when you're trying to
- 3:18communicate because obviously when you're masking, you're not
- 3:20actively communicating in the proper manner that you want to,
- 3:23you know, relay information. And at the same time it's going
- 3:26to build so much more confidence in the person and make them just
- 3:29a better communicator all round. Now.
