- 3:40[SPEAKER_01]: and she is the founder and she has her own genre, she is her capital A's, D-R, let's say you don't want to have Sherry Smiths.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_01]: These Sherry Smiths in a moment.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_00]: Hi, thanks for having me.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_01]: No, it's a pleasure and honor.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_01]: You know you've done some amazing things some legendary things and I want to I want to unpack all of it Because a lot of times, you know like like the biosephes people try to put you in a box And I want to you know kind of you know amplify and kind of show all the things that you've done all the amazing things It's some of the things that you're doing now But before we even go there, but those who don't know who is Cherice Mills and
- 4:24[SPEAKER_00]: I am a woman, I am a mother, I am a fighter, I am a lover, I do music, I sing, I act, I just do what I love and I like to give my love to you all and I hope that I can start someone from this interview.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, yes, not appreciate that.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_01]: I want to start with
- 4:45[SPEAKER_01]: your love is singing, right?
- 4:47[SPEAKER_01]: Because I know that, you know, most people who go on to sing professionally, usually start at like a very, very young age and they're, you know, they've been singing since they were one child prodigy kind of thing.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_01]: But you start a singing or taking singing seriously as a teenager.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_01]: Talk about that journey for me.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, I fell in love with music when I was in high school.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_00]: I always love music, but like for a passion, it was during high school.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_00]: There was this one time I was in a choir class and my teacher had was playing on this Louisville box, song from Pirates of Pansans, called Poor Wandering One.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_00]: For those who don't know, that's a very hard, coloratoria song to sing, which is like the highest soprano.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_00]: Mind you, I don't even know a color to remember then, right?
- 5:37[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, what is color to her?
- 5:39[SPEAKER_00]: Because he stopped to use like, shrieks.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_00]: Can you do that again?
- 5:43[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, okay, it's a play for me.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, you just hit some notes that not normal folks can just hit like that.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_00]: And he's like, I wanna introduce you to someone.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_00]: He took me to a well-known Armenian singer and he was Anita Darian.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_00]: She gave me a lesson in her voice.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_00]: I want to train you, she was like Russian.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_00]: right from that day my life changed to where my passion for the arts and and math and science because I was in the math division.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_00]: I changed to the music division.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't even tell my mama because she wanted to be a lawyer, a doctor, and a count was something to that nature she was Caribbean.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_00]: So you know Caribbean parents, they're real strict.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_00]: You have to be really in your books, right?
- 6:23[SPEAKER_00]: So meet so in her, I'm doing music.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_00]: that's not serious.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, I didn't tell her to change my major, I didn't tell her I was doing this, and one day I invited her to a concert she didn't know I was headlining it and she started bawling when I sang for a song.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't even get to finish the first song.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_00]: I stopped, I looked at her, I smiled and I looked over to the pianist and I said, let's continue.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_00]: from that day my life fully changed so my mother was supportive and I read opera fedemies like I really started really late as most most people that you know are classically trained they wouldn't like you said they were raised into it they eat
- 7:04[SPEAKER_00]: breathed it from their parents, you know, I, you know, from Chinatown to Bigger was raised in New York since I was three with a single mother.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_00]: And we didn't know anything about opera.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_00]: That's not normal, you know, in our culture.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_00]: And I just fell in love with it.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_00]: I just loved how it made you feel.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_00]: You didn't even have to understand the words.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_00]: It was just the music
- 7:33[SPEAKER_00]: the composition of things, even the vocalists, how they express themselves.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_00]: So it's not just your typical musician, it's acting always in it.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_00]: So I developed so much skills, not knowing I was developing those skills, within learning these records, to where I was a natural actress, because I was acting out my records, you know what I'm saying?
- 7:57[SPEAKER_00]: And I actually went to a school that had a PA system issue,
- 8:01[SPEAKER_00]: my um what do you call it to to 31 it was like elementary school they got me my elementary school had no PA system so i didn't realize i was getting trained to use my diaphragm from so young because i always love music i would do dancing and all that because i just love to be on stage and being fine i really wanted to be a model but i was too short you know and i was i always had booty so that was never in at that.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_00]: So I was like, dinner, I'm like, how did I develop this big voice?
- 8:31[SPEAKER_00]: I look back at my life span, and I was like, wow, who would have thanked that elementary school who had no PA system?
- 8:39[SPEAKER_00]: The teacher's taught us to sing forward and sing project, but not through the throat from the body.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_00]: I was developing my vocal skills from then.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_00]: Not realizing, I would be using that from this day forward.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_01]: Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow, the vinylignment, the vinylignment, and then you wind up going to, you have the opportunity to go to Juilliard.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_01]: I went to Martin Luther King High School, so I used to work past there all the time, right?
- 9:07[SPEAKER_01]: But you had the opportunity to go there, but you decided to go somewhere else.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_01]: Why did you choose the college you went to?
- 9:12[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I definitely auditioned for every Ivy League school there was.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_00]: And my vocal coach, Steven Kaplan, R.I.P.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_00]: to him, I give it all to him because he, he was like sure she got to stand out the box because they don't put you in this box.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_00]: So you got to figure out your way to, to, to outline that.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, let's do some records, let's, we're, we're her some records that most freshmen would never audition with.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_00]: So I say, be hardest pieces, I Russian, German, you name it, and most people just do Italian or French, you know what I'm saying?
- 9:46[SPEAKER_00]: I did a record by rock monon off and things like that and it stood out to it almost every school I got accepted into.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_00]: only what I did was Curtis, but I was like, Tom, they only accept two people a year, you know?
- 9:58[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, and I chose Manhattan School of Music because of the teacher, Hilda Harris, she's one of the well-known Black Separatos outside of Kathleen Battle, and she normally doesn't really accept freshmen like that, and she accepted me, and she saw something in me.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_00]: And I said, I have to go where someone sees me.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_00]: She saw me.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 10:24[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_00]: And even though Manhattan School of Music didn't give me a full ride.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_00]: I had a full ride a Westminster choir.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_00]: I had a, you know, Julia, I was giving me like financial aid.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, so it came out like it was nothing.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_00]: Manhattan School of Music.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_00]: I still had to pay like 20k out of pocket.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_00]: Mind you, I had a single mother.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_00]: Three kids.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and all that, I was like, man, how my mom is going to do this?
- 10:45[SPEAKER_00]: but by the grace of God there was a way and we got it done and I put it all through my faith and I feel like God turned this switch on in my life, said sing because literally that day in high school and that classroom I don't know where I started singing with this boombox like I knew the record, like I've been practicing this record, you know what I'm saying?
- 11:13[SPEAKER_00]: Like just like out of nowhere, it popped, and it worked, and my life changed.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_00]: Who does that?
- 11:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_00]: Then I booked jobs internationally, and they saw me and changed my roles.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_00]: That's when my life changed again.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_01]: So you had the talent.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_01]: Um, they heard your voice and they said, yes, she is the one and then they saw you and changed my role.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_01]: Talk about that.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the classical world is very snooty.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_00]: it's you know it's it's known yeah and it's completely opposite to the R&B pop world to where the younger the better for them the older the better the more seasoned the better my voice was very big it sounded like I was older but I was young so whenever I came to those roles they're like wait a minute you two young for this role
- 12:10[SPEAKER_00]: Your voice is perfect, but you're too young.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_00]: But really wasn't only that.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_00]: It was also my image, you know what I'm saying.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, being there's not that many of us in that world.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah So I said, you know what I've worked way too hard.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_00]: I've achieved accomplished so much for someone to tell me now
- 12:29[SPEAKER_00]: And anybody knows me, I'm a woman, I do not like to hear no.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_00]: I'll find a way.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_00]: So I created my own genre called Hop Opera to where I looked the part and I sounded like the part.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_01]: Wow, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_01]: So Hop Opera, is this something that other people do or this is, this is exclusive series mode.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_00]: Well, that definitely was my niche.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_00]: Now, now fast forward, people are intertwining opera, classical music with other genres.
- 12:58[SPEAKER_00]: you know, they weren't really claiming it like I put my stamp on.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you know what I'm saying?
- 13:03[SPEAKER_00]: And I love the fact that like say Beyonce, she mixed of a muddy into her records and things like that.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_00]: And you see Christina Gallera, people don't know a lot of these women have classical background training, you know?
- 13:16[SPEAKER_00]: But of course in the beginning, you can't start off a music like that.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_00]: People don't gravitate to that.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_00]: So that kind of was my downfall.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_00]: To where not a lot of people understood my music.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but I knew I was like I'm not gonna cave in and just give you what you want Because they put you they put you in this box and say you got a sound like this person You got to look like that person, but what about
- 13:40[SPEAKER_00]: originality, what about creativity, all that was not a thing back then, you know what I'm saying?
- 13:48[SPEAKER_00]: And I can proudly say, I am 42, I look good.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_00]: But in this business, you're not supposed to really say your age.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_00]: What could be the going to lie until you was a lawyer?
- 13:57[SPEAKER_00]: But I can proudly say that.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I'm saying?
- 14:00[SPEAKER_00]: I'm okay with that.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_00]: As I'm a mother, I've accomplished all the things I've ever wanted to accomplish in life.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, when you think about, you know, your journey in the music business, I mean, you've had some, you know, big records work with some, you know, big artists, is there anything about your, your music career that you would you would change or of your journey?
- 14:27[SPEAKER_00]: Um, you know, looking back at it, I probably would have gotten better management because I felt like I could do it all on my own.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_00]: And that was my thing where you can't do it all on your own.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_00]: You need a good team.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_00]: And I feel like maybe if I had a good team or someone to kind of solidify, you know, if you notice a lot of these major artists, they have someone that backs them.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_00]: That puts a stamp on them.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_00]: And I feel like maybe if I did that.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_00]: But again, I did go into those big meetings.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_00]: I did, you know, try to figure out if I should do a record deal or not.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_00]: But when I went there, they wanted to change me.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_00]: They didn't want me to sing classical music.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_00]: They wanted me to be like Alicia Keys.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_00]: They wanted to be like, which is a beautiful thing.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_00]: She has beautiful voice.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_00]: But at that time, I didn't want to do that.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, no.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 15:18[SPEAKER_00]: So I was a hard head.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, you're like, right, right.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_00]: It was hard head, and you got to understand not many people are attracted to positive things.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_00]: They're not attracted to feel good.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_00]: I would say feel good, but things that are in a light of
- 15:36[SPEAKER_00]: Greatness, you know, they weren't twerking, they weren't, I made me doubted cheated, you know, they want that kishiko, you know, saying, tell them life stories like that, but I'm correct, I'm like, I'm not gonna tell you what this man just did to me, I'm not gonna tell you how he made me fit.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I didn't wanna do that, you feel me, but it does sell, handsets.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_01]: They make it seem like they want positivity, cause they,
- 15:59[SPEAKER_00]: They ask for it, but what do they really go listen to?
- 16:02[SPEAKER_00]: What do they really go see?
- 16:03[SPEAKER_00]: Like right now, I'm on a TV show and you would think you want positive things, but really, truly, they want to see arguments, they want to see drama, they want to see fights.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_00]: You know, if you think, go back to our days of soap properties.
- 16:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yep.
- 16:19[SPEAKER_00]: I'm grandma's watch soap properties.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_00]: They didn't watch it because it was cute.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_01]: They were traveling back home.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_01]: Skin, who, who sleep, who was, but is that?
- 16:28[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I'm saying?
- 16:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's about it.
- 16:30[SPEAKER_00]: So you
- 16:30[SPEAKER_00]: You can't change you now.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_01]: I think about it like that's what reality TV is now for us.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_00]: It's the modern day soul property and trust me.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_00]: My TV show coming at Miami has some scandal because you know who I'm dealing with, who I'm dating, you know, it's scandal with that.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my God, she's sleeping with the owner of the network.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_01]: What?
- 16:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_01]: I am.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_00]: I am.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_00]: And the sad thing is, you know, and I said, but
- 16:59[SPEAKER_00]: you know, people will judge you, but they do they have their own scandals in their lives.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody got scandal.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_00]: Your life would be boring if you had no scandals, right?
- 17:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_01]: Talk to me about a comment about Miami, like what's the premise of it?
- 17:13[SPEAKER_01]: What's happening there?
- 17:14[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I feel like I have my second chance in this entertainment business where I'm trying to come back after having my child and getting my annulment, I wanted to start over.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_00]: I wanted a fresh start, so I re-loading.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_01]: So in all the, in the mean that you were married and it was AI.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_00]: It was AI.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_01]: So it's been a look.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_01]: We got, we, we need ratings for the show.
- 17:36[SPEAKER_01]: So if you don't talk about who he's bad, he's in a lot of no.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure you know.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna, I'm gonna look.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_01]: I'm saying, you just said that, that messy sales.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_00]: Well, y'all going, y'all going to have to go and check out my book.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_00]: I got a book called The End That Saved Me.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, it's an unfortunate ending.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_00]: Of how we were able to, I was able to break free from
- 17:58[SPEAKER_00]: that situation, but it was really the end that saved me.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_00]: Him getting into this whole recost situation was the end and not that I wish bad upon anybody because he still did my child's father.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_00]: But I needed something so major like this to break me free.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_00]: So without saying too much, y'all gonna have to read that book because it's juicy.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_01]: And where's the book coming up?
- 18:22[SPEAKER_00]: The end of August.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_00]: So that is something that, um, you know, I, I really deep dive and I get, it's so raw.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I really don't like my business out there.
- 18:29[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 18:29[SPEAKER_00]: Tripp, tripp, tripp, tripp, tripp, tripp, tripp, tripp, tripp, tripp, tripp, tripp, tripp, tripp, tripp, tripp, tripp, tripp, tripp, tripp, tripp, tripp, tripp, tripp, tripp, tripp, tripp, tripp, tripp, tripp, tripp, tripp, tripp, tripp, tripp, tripp, tripp, tripp, tripp, tripp, tripp, tripp, tripp, tripp, tripp,
- 18:39[SPEAKER_00]: So if everything's all I'm as well, just let John away everything.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I'm saying?
- 18:43[SPEAKER_00]: I'm already getting judged and criticized from all the things that happened while I was with my partner.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_00]: You know, and some would say, hey, you can don't a lot of it.
- 18:51[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes you know, it's like having a child that does bad and you're still supporting them because I'm your child.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I'm saying?
- 18:57[SPEAKER_00]: He was my husband and you got a goal.
- 19:00[SPEAKER_00]: We were married for two years.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_00]: Um, you, you got to support them regardless if they're right or wrong.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_00]: You know, trust me behind camera.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, what do you realize?
- 19:10[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you just said that.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_00]: Are you kidding me?
- 19:12[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_00]: And then you got me looking crazy.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I'm saying?
- 19:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_00]: But I think, under the day, I never would disrespect him in public.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_00]: That's how I was raised.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_01]: You know, you feel me?
- 19:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_00]: And at the end of the day, I supported as long as I could to the very end.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and saved you.
- 19:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, it did.
- 19:29[SPEAKER_00]: Some starting my life over and I'm like Vegas got too much history to most this much that I needed to relocate.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_00]: So I relocated in Miami and you know, got involved with the network owner, you know, out of that.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_00]: You know, we met for business initially, but then the chemistry was just so there.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_00]: It was not show was organic, it wasn't planned.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't like I just went and let me go sleep with the network owner and give me a shout.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_01]: Because some people do that.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_00]: You know, no, absolutely not.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_00]: It really was just Oregon.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_00]: I was looking for it because I'm really was just trying to start my life over, get back into the groove of things.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 20:04[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I was saying because being with a partner or getting to know someone, you don't think for yourself now.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_00]: You got to, you got to think for too.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_00]: You know, and when you're dating someone that's...
- 20:14[SPEAKER_00]: In that statute, you've got to listen to everything they've got to say.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_00]: You're not just going to do how you want to do it.
- 20:21[SPEAKER_00]: You've got to run it back.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you're doing what a boss or what a bottom house.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_00]: Like what you're doing, you know, because I'd be doing something like really, really, she was like, what did I do wrong now, you know, but that's what happens when you have a good leader, you know, and I'm at the place in my life where I need someone to help me lead.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_00]: A woman's place is not to lead.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_00]: The only thing her place is to make sure that man is good to help her lead.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_00]: We forget those things.
- 20:55[SPEAKER_00]: You film me, and if you think back in the times of the kings and queens, they weren't really together for love.
- 21:02[SPEAKER_00]: They were together for what is best for their country, what's best for their kingdom.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_00]: Right?
- 21:09[SPEAKER_00]: So you can't be upset that I want to be with a king that got all the things going on.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_00]: Because it's best for my family and my
- 21:17[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I'm saying?
- 21:19[SPEAKER_00]: You know, people who look like, man, you only want to deal with rich niggas, heck yeah.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_00]: Are you kidding me?
- 21:24[SPEAKER_00]: Why wouldn't you?
- 21:25[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_00]: Like it is not saying I'm sleeping around because I don't.
- 21:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I just came out of a marriage.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not doing that.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_00]: Dating is not sleeping around.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_00]: Dating is saying who's the best suit for you.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_00]: Right?
- 21:37[SPEAKER_00]: You know, we're not in a public relationship, but our business is public right now because it's TV show.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_00]: I have not said this is my, this is my king yet, you know, we are still establishing that, you know, and I'm hoping for the best because that's what you can do is hope for the best, right?
- 21:55[SPEAKER_00]: And I want that.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_00]: And I pray that that will help me excel in all the things that I got going on.
- 22:01[SPEAKER_00]: But even if if all that doesn't, right?
- 22:06[SPEAKER_00]: He was a great man to help me do what I'm doing now.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_00]: He kept his word.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 22:11[SPEAKER_00]: But I doubt that.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_00]: Cause honey, I'm a catch.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_00]: And he can all let this go, babe.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_00]: The only way this is going to go is that he do's all wrong.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but sure.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_01]: Why do you think, because you said something around, you know, a woman's place is to, you know, be led, right?
- 22:33[SPEAKER_01]: But if you look at it now, right, this generation, I'm not even just a generation, because I see older women, you know, then there's a confusion of roles, right?
- 22:43[SPEAKER_01]: And there is sort of like a heightened sense of independence, if you will, where it looks like relationships are, or there's emphasis on,
- 22:58[SPEAKER_01]: a woman being a boss, man being a boss equally yoke, like what do you think is causing that?
- 23:06[SPEAKER_00]: I, um, there's no such thing as being equally yoke.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_00]: Unfortunately, and I'm a boss too, right?
- 23:13[SPEAKER_00]: But you still have to allow a man to be a man.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_00]: And if the woman is making more money than that man, the woman is louder than that man, you don't allow him to be that man.
- 23:24[SPEAKER_00]: And that's why a lot of relationships where a woman is making more, there's disrespect, it ends up not ending well.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_01]: Unless that man doesn't want to warm them up again.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_00]: Still, even still, your masculinity is gone.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I'm saying?
- 23:38[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want that.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_00]: You know, so I'm going to have to bow down.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_00]: As much as I do want to be this independent strong woman, I can still be strong, but I want to be independent.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_00]: You know, all that independence is out the door.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_00]: That was cute in my 20s.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you should be independent of your 20s because you'd be focused on no mind to be focused on building yourself, having something established, to bring something to the table.
- 24:01[SPEAKER_00]: You know, a lot of things get twisted where women feel like they need a man for something.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_00]: No, they're supposed to be assisting.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_00]: You feel me?
- 24:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_00]: Not just, you got nothing to offer.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_00]: You have to have something to offer.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_00]: Whether it be assisting building.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_00]: you know, being fine, you a role.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_00]: You got to have some sort of role in that, you know?
- 24:23[SPEAKER_00]: I got my own crib.
- 24:25[SPEAKER_00]: I got my own business before I met.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_00]: I meet no man.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_00]: To where you can't say you did this for me, but what you can't say is I helped elevate.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_00]: Because that's what you're supposed to do.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_01]: Talk a little bit about that as far as like, you know, businesses, ownership, like, you know, you have a son, you know, what are some of the things that you are doing, right, to build that legacy and making sure that, you know, that legacy is strong for you and your family.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_00]: So outside of music, I've always had businesses because my mom, you know, again, she said, you still need to make sure you have some residual income because this music business is up down downtown.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_00]: You know, money is not frequent.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_00]: So since when I was in college, I ran.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_00]: It's top modeling agency called Mills Modeling Entertainment where I'm I went from working with Enheiser Bush as a promo model myself, but then I can do promo modeling while I got a sing at Carnegie Hall.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_00]: I got a tour or a do the so I had to find a way where I started hiring someone to replace me and I would
- 25:32[SPEAKER_00]: They say they would pay 60 an hour.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_00]: I'd give them 20 key 40, like you know, I started being the agent to where I was like shoot.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_00]: What if I multiply?
- 25:40[SPEAKER_00]: So it went from three models to seven models, 30 models to almost 83 models I managed.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_00]: And I made my first million dollars before I graduated college running that modeling agency.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_00]: And then it came from being,
- 25:57[SPEAKER_00]: My space, Facebook, driven, where social media came.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_00]: And I was like, man, I need to make me a product.
- 26:03[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I was always fluctuating with my weight, you know, being Caribbean at thick thighs, big butt, this, that I'm like, I had to keep working out.
- 26:11[SPEAKER_00]: I was always wearing, I looked up for the best waste trainers and, and flaw has in the business.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_00]: You know,
- 26:17[SPEAKER_00]: and obviously Columbia has the best way straightening as I fall has in the business.
- 26:21[SPEAKER_00]: So I would always get my product shipped for myself and wear it for myself.
- 26:25[SPEAKER_00]: It went from some everyday, I'd be in the gym or be running and doing stuff.
- 26:30[SPEAKER_00]: Where you get your way sooner?
- 26:31[SPEAKER_00]: Where'd you get your this?
- 26:32[SPEAKER_00]: Where'd you get your way sooner?
- 26:34[SPEAKER_00]: After the 13, 20 in person, I need to start selling these things because I've just given these businesses money.
- 26:42[SPEAKER_00]: I remember.
- 26:44[SPEAKER_00]: My aunt asked me to borrow some money.
- 26:49[SPEAKER_00]: So where I was like, damn, I only got money for my rent.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, should I use my rent money and go place this order?
- 26:55[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, you know what?
- 26:57[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to go ahead and do that.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_00]: So I took, I took $2900 as my rent.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_00]: I lived, I lived in the edge of water in New Jersey.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, rent was high.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_00]: I still live, bougie.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 27:08[SPEAKER_00]: I took my $2900 at place my first order.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_00]: I ordered about.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_00]: I think like 50 waste trainers, right?
- 27:15[SPEAKER_00]: What did the waste trainers, I sold out in one week.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 27:19[SPEAKER_00]: I made my rent money back in one week.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_00]: I made income back.
- 27:23[SPEAKER_00]: I re-upped.
- 27:24[SPEAKER_01]: Pay my rent, of course.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_01]: You got to be smart and business.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_00]: You got to be smart.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_00]: Pay my rent money.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_00]: Re-upped, sold that out again.
- 27:34[SPEAKER_00]: It went from me working in me.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_00]: I have post office workers that could tell you the story where I would take their push cards.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_00]: Post office is right across the street from my building, right?
- 27:46[SPEAKER_00]: They would give me their push card, that big big card, the post office.
- 27:49[SPEAKER_00]: I would roll it up to my unit.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_00]: I would have hundreds of orders in my living room.
- 27:55[SPEAKER_00]: Me labeling my best friend used to help me put the labels on.
- 27:58[SPEAKER_00]: I went from doing that out of my home to where I got a brownstone in upst and in Harlem.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_00]: I opened up the brownstone as my office and I had five employees.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_00]: And went from having five employees in that brownstone to doing thousands of orders.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_00]: to where I was making, you would say, you know, man, I don't even want to do this.
- 28:20[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm going to start coming try to tax me.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_00]: No, I was doing, I was the number two waste training business.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_00]: Me, Prima Donna was the top.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_00]: Prima Donna was doing her waste training.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_00]: But we were at the top.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_00]: I never, no one knew I owned that company.
- 28:35[SPEAKER_00]: So my thing was, I'm not going to let people know I was the owner.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_00]: I just wore it, I'm like, oh, you know, you could order from this website.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_00]: It was my website.
- 28:43[SPEAKER_00]: because what tell people is yours they want it out of a free for discount or you know what I'm I'm good They rather go spend it with someone else.
- 28:52[SPEAKER_00]: It's kind of crazy, but that's your people So my first customers with my friends and my family how can I give my friends and family to buy some of them for free if they want it for free It's real me.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_01]: I don't own the company
- 29:04[SPEAKER_00]: I put a whole other name now I could tell you because I don't have the company anymore It's it was my body rocker so my body rocker was my business.
- 29:13[SPEAKER_00]: I had every every celebrity promoting it I was paying people some bills.
- 29:18[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, you know, I'm saying you got yandee everybody, you know Eric Mano all the all the
- 29:25[SPEAKER_00]: Top celebrities was promoting Monica was wearing my waist trainers.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_00]: You could Google it still on my best.
- 29:30[SPEAKER_00]: I still got the Instagram So you can see all of them rocking that it went from that to our side I said, you know, let me get a diet company.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_00]: So I opened a V slim V slim was stand for like vegans slim T I did the T's and the pills before THC came about.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you know, everybody was doing those I was before them baby
- 29:49[SPEAKER_00]: And I was selling T's.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_00]: I had Cardi B's sister promoting it.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_00]: So just think about it, right?
- 29:51[SPEAKER_00]: One post, I'll bring in like 20, 30,000 off from one post a day.
- 29:53[SPEAKER_00]: It was, it was, I was cake.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 30:05[SPEAKER_00]: But then Amazon came along.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_00]: So we're going to talk about how Amazon affected all the small businesses.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_00]: Because Amazon allowed people to go straight to the manufacturers.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_00]: It took away us as being in the distributors.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_00]: And it was oversaturated.
- 30:25[SPEAKER_00]: It was oversaturated and then it's like if I could go buy it on Amazon for $20, why would I go buy it from you for $60?
- 30:31[SPEAKER_01]: Right exactly.
- 30:32[SPEAKER_01]: And then you're just putting you like your logo on it and then yeah yeah.
- 30:36[SPEAKER_00]: And then I also had bad business with one of my one of my promotional models.
- 30:40[SPEAKER_00]: They they've tried to go because I didn't want to pay them anymore, right?
- 30:43[SPEAKER_00]: They wanted to slander my business.
- 30:46[SPEAKER_00]: I won that in court because you know me, I don't fight, I sue.
- 30:50[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, I want to court, she still, she still, on me to the day, she can get a house and her name, because of that.
- 30:57[SPEAKER_00]: We're not going to bring no light to that, but it affected my business tremendous tremendously, and sometimes you got to know how to pivot, and I had to learn to pivot and find, okay, what's going to be my next move?
- 31:12[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 31:13[SPEAKER_00]: I pivoted.
- 31:14[SPEAKER_00]: I focused more on my music.
- 31:16[SPEAKER_00]: I got into acting.
- 31:17[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, okay, now, you know what?
- 31:19[SPEAKER_00]: I have all that.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I still had other little businesses, you know, clothing lines, legging companies.
- 31:25[SPEAKER_00]: You know, are you so sponsor kids for proms and give them dresses because my mom's a designer.
- 31:31[SPEAKER_00]: So I would be like, mom, let's give five teenage girls some dresses for prom.
- 31:35[SPEAKER_00]: So we would do things like that.
- 31:37[SPEAKER_00]: And, um,
- 31:40[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, okay, I need to figure out a way.
- 31:44[SPEAKER_00]: Another way to do residual and because man, that was an amazing time.
- 31:48[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I was saying?
- 31:50[SPEAKER_00]: If I could go back, I would have stayed.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_01]: That's the back successes, though, too.
- 31:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I like businesses where it's little investment, yeah, large game.
- 31:59[SPEAKER_00]: That's just me.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_00]: Because you know, you can put your money and some of not know where it's gonna go.
- 32:04[SPEAKER_00]: So I rather that, then I got into the Airbnb business.
- 32:10[SPEAKER_00]: that right there was my favorite right now.
- 32:14[SPEAKER_00]: I have 13 listings and Vegas and I could say right now I could retire.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_00]: I actually retired at one point.
- 32:20[SPEAKER_00]: That's when I was starting a family and trying for a child.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_00]: I suffered multiple miscarriages to where I felt like I was pregnant from almost four years.
- 32:31[SPEAKER_00]: I was pregnant for about four years.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_00]: I gained a lot of weight.
- 32:35[SPEAKER_00]: By the grace of God, my last pregnancy, he was my miracle baby.
- 32:39[SPEAKER_00]: We came at 28 weeks.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_00]: So this day, I'm still working on things with him, but he's a blessing.
- 32:46[SPEAKER_00]: And I wouldn't change anything in my life because of that blessing.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_00]: I'll go through it all over again, even with my ex, because of that blessing.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_01]: Well, yeah.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_01]: I love that.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_01]: I love that.
- 33:00[SPEAKER_01]: Would you, would you get your, um, your business acumen from because like I'm hearing, you know, model agency, I'm hearing, uh, you know, waste trainers, I'm hearing Airbnb, you know, I'm from New York.
- 33:13[SPEAKER_00]: I was raising New York.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_00]: So is that New York hustle?
- 33:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 33:16[SPEAKER_01]: What was the borough?
- 33:18[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, I knew it, but you know, Queens get the money.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, but I'll like he's getting Queens to come from Holland So he's gay Queens energy.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_01]: So I was gonna say, but I Do Queens I went to the old Andrew Jackson.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_00]: He manages in the arts high school.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_00]: So you know, it's a magnetic school now And if you know, it's a magnet school now, so I listen.
- 33:37[SPEAKER_00]: I'm embedded.
- 33:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah
- 33:38[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I, I may have been the difference.
- 33:41[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not training in you, you know, okay.
- 33:42[SPEAKER_01]: Listen, listen, listen.
- 33:44[SPEAKER_00]: All right, my mother was always about your business first.
- 33:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 33:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 33:49[SPEAKER_00]: Everything else can come later, you know what I'm saying?
- 33:51[SPEAKER_00]: So I've always been a hard worker.
- 33:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_00]: I never wanted nothing from no mind.
- 33:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 33:57[SPEAKER_00]: I never wanted nothing from my family.
- 33:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 33:59[SPEAKER_00]: Like, you know, I don't have no inheritance.
- 34:02[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 34:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 34:03[SPEAKER_01]: You feel me and that makes sense though too like like you said earlier that people will say, you know, you only date rich man, but you're a rich woman, right?
- 34:15[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's the biggest issue that when we look online or when we see women who have these outrageous demands, if you will, but they're not what they're asking for.
- 34:29[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 34:29[SPEAKER_01]: Here I'm saying.
- 34:30[SPEAKER_01]: And so if it's only right if a woman is rich, and it doesn't only have to be money, though, right?
- 34:36[SPEAKER_01]: Because when you think about everything that you've done, you know, you, you, you, you,
- 34:44[SPEAKER_01]: have done well academically.
- 34:46[SPEAKER_01]: You've done well from a musical perspective.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_01]: You've done well from an entrepreneurial perspective.
- 34:52[SPEAKER_01]: So that is who you are in your being.
- 34:56[SPEAKER_01]: And so even if you lost at all, God forbid, right?
- 35:00[SPEAKER_01]: It's still who you are in your being.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I have lost at all.
- 35:06[SPEAKER_00]: And that's what makes me appreciate all the things.
- 35:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 35:14[SPEAKER_00]: You would never appreciate what you got up here.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_01]: And $1,000, yeah.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I'm saying?
- 35:18[SPEAKER_01]: Well, with 50 cents, I said, joy went Phil, so good for what's in the pen.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 35:22[SPEAKER_00]: And I felt that.
- 35:23[SPEAKER_00]: I actually had a moment where I lived in my best friends basement for two years, took out my soul back on my feet.
- 35:31[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 35:32[SPEAKER_01]: Talk about that time.
- 35:32[SPEAKER_01]: Like what contributed to that rock bottom, right?
- 35:36[SPEAKER_01]: Making your, you know, you made a million dollars in it.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_00]: And it is part as part of my book.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_01]: You know, you're on the first.
- 35:45[SPEAKER_00]: So I, man, it's crazy.
- 35:50[SPEAKER_00]: I left a situation.
- 35:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 35:53[SPEAKER_00]: My house was robbed.
- 35:55[SPEAKER_00]: It stole everything.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_00]: Even even robbed my bank accounts.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 36:01[SPEAKER_00]: And I had to just find a moment to myself.
- 36:06[SPEAKER_01]: We say, when you say rob your bank accounts, it was somebody that you knew, obviously, you knew or, when you was dating?
- 36:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 36:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 36:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 36:15[SPEAKER_00]: OK.
- 36:15[SPEAKER_00]: So that's why it's also hard for me to trust.
- 36:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 36:18[SPEAKER_00]: Because it's like, it doesn't matter how well you've vetted somebody.
- 36:22[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't matter how long you've known somebody when, when.
- 36:26[SPEAKER_00]: She did the fair and change.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_00]: They're the whole different person, you know what I'm saying?
- 36:30[SPEAKER_00]: And to win now, it's just like, man, what do I do next?
- 36:31[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 36:31[SPEAKER_00]: You know, how do I, how do I start to get, to get the money back, to, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh,
- 36:43[SPEAKER_00]: And you would think you'd learn from your mistakes, you know, but I've had a couple of let's set back.
- 36:47[SPEAKER_00]: But it's like when you're a good person, you're a nice person, you give everybody that benefit of the doubt.
- 36:53[SPEAKER_00]: I would never say, I'm going to treat this next person bad because the previous person did this to me.
- 36:58[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I'm saying, I pray for the best every time.
- 37:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 37:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, for sure.
- 37:02[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it has to be the end.
- 37:04[SPEAKER_01]: You believe in like a astrology?
- 37:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_01]: What?
- 37:07[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not having it.
- 37:08[SPEAKER_01]: It's your astrological song.
- 37:12[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry, not my cab is going.
- 37:14[SPEAKER_01]: Of course.
- 37:15[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I'm a half to no I have to do my research Yeah, then research on And your age is wrote your age in Raw, though, too.
- 37:22[SPEAKER_01]: I bothered to say that because I was like, but you know, you got the Hollywood age, but
- 37:28[SPEAKER_00]: You said you said your age.
- 37:30[SPEAKER_00]: I said it now y'all.
- 37:31[SPEAKER_00]: This is you actually you are the first Do you a thief or so that was exclusive?
- 37:36[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, exclusive It's cool to you know, you know, but honestly, I look the fuck good So I don't even care.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I'm saying people look at me and they be like what yeah?
- 37:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and this is all my Like I have not done anything to change my features.
- 37:50[SPEAKER_00]: I was teases the kid for my lips Yeah, I was teases the kid for my nose and mind you people now see all you got to look nice nose
- 37:58[SPEAKER_00]: back there and they like, no, you know, I was teased from my big ass, you know, saying they're called me donkey booty or kind of, you know, I was teased from my big long hair yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
- 38:26[SPEAKER_00]: But I had that stage where my hair had to grow out.
- 38:29[SPEAKER_00]: So it had a moment before it fell, it went, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don
- 38:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but that heart, right, that kind of a core and heart of goal, you know, unfortunately can, you don't be taking advantage of it, you know, time and time again, but I, I've always put God first, I am.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_00]: I thank my mom for bringing me up into the church and wanting me to always put God in my life, because I feel like he's always no matter how how it gets, no matter what situations I'm in, I feel like he is always there and he pulls me out.
- 39:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 39:21[SPEAKER_00]: He really does.
- 39:21[SPEAKER_00]: And sometimes people lose their faith when things go bad.
- 39:27[SPEAKER_00]: That's the time you're supposed to get even stronger.
- 39:29[SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
- 39:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 39:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 39:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 39:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 39:31[SPEAKER_01]: Because what is faith?
- 39:33[SPEAKER_01]: That's the only, you know, it's funny because that's what I believe.
- 39:36[SPEAKER_01]: I believe that a lot of us who go through trials and tribulations, we are chosen by God.
- 39:42[SPEAKER_01]: Because imagine,
- 39:45[SPEAKER_01]: I couldn't even imagine a life that everything was handed to me and I didn't really go through anything.
- 39:50[SPEAKER_01]: Not that I've asked to go through anything, but I understand that like I have an acronym for God, you know, GOD, greatness on display, right?
- 39:59[SPEAKER_01]: The only way you could prove God is by overcoming things, you know, and so any talent is perfect.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and so any time that, you know, I'm going through something.
- 40:08[SPEAKER_01]: I actually thank God now.
- 40:09[SPEAKER_01]: I'll be like, I've got already, already know you set me up in something.
- 40:14[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, instead of people saying, why you did this to me?
- 40:17[SPEAKER_00]: No, no, no, sometimes I've got to go through the storm.
- 40:20[SPEAKER_00]: It's a really, like, see the sunshine, you know what I'm saying?
- 40:24[SPEAKER_00]: He sometimes puts you, people like, oh, the devil did that.
- 40:27[SPEAKER_00]: No, that actually was God.
- 40:29[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes God puts you, sometimes God puts you.
- 40:31[SPEAKER_01]: It's a work of me to bring the good, all things.
- 40:33[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, thanks.
- 40:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because after every storm is what, sunshine, baby.
- 40:37[SPEAKER_00]: So you know, you got to understand, I literally eat, breathe,
- 40:44[SPEAKER_00]: I'm in my Bible every night.
- 40:46[SPEAKER_00]: I'm in my Bible.
- 40:47[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of people may not know that, but I got to always put God first and last in my life throughout my day.
- 40:52[SPEAKER_01]: For sure, for sure, for sure.
- 40:55[SPEAKER_01]: When you think about this reality show, what do you think people are going to get out of it?
- 41:02[SPEAKER_01]: For like, you know, overall, but then also with you and your presence on it.
- 41:06[SPEAKER_00]: We didn't even really get to all of this on that show because it was so much drama I ain't gonna hold you.
- 41:11[SPEAKER_00]: You all probably gonna have to catch the next season because this this one boy Tell you the treaty come hold on me on this one.
- 41:17[SPEAKER_00]: I look I but I didn't you know I'm not one to start now then best believe.
- 41:22[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a finish it You got big New York my mouth my mouth is ruthless and I don't play and they know not to mess with me And not one person on my cast came a step to me not one
- 41:33[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 41:35[SPEAKER_00]: You could say all you want to say, but I'll come back with the quickness.
- 41:39[SPEAKER_00]: They'll just talk behind my back or say, that's cool.
- 41:41[SPEAKER_00]: You do that, but what I come around is quiet as a mouse.
- 41:46[SPEAKER_00]: Quiet.
- 41:47[SPEAKER_00]: We had scenes where I showed you want to throw a drink at me, but then we go out to the club and she's sitting in the corner.
- 41:54[SPEAKER_00]: If I had a problem with somebody,
- 41:56[SPEAKER_00]: I'm on the ass.
- 41:57[SPEAKER_00]: You really, really not about that life, baby.
- 41:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, sure.
- 42:00[SPEAKER_00]: For sure.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_01]: For sure.
- 42:02[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like my presence be disturbing people sometimes.
- 42:06[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I'm saying?
- 42:07[SPEAKER_00]: I can't hope that honey.
- 42:08[SPEAKER_00]: That's a personal problem.
- 42:09[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 42:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 42:10[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I'll just visit.
- 42:12[SPEAKER_01]: And so your, your, besides the reality show, are you, like, what else, you know, what else you have going on?
- 42:19[SPEAKER_01]: What else are you looking at?
- 42:20[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, there's more.
- 42:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, talk to you.
- 42:23[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I just released a single called the ABC Bounce.
- 42:29[SPEAKER_00]: I got into the Children's Music Division.
- 42:31[SPEAKER_01]: Nice, nice, nice.
- 42:32[SPEAKER_00]: Dedicated to my son, of course.
- 42:33[SPEAKER_00]: How old are you son now?
- 42:35[SPEAKER_00]: 21 months.
- 42:36[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, nice, awesome.
- 42:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 42:37[SPEAKER_00]: So I have a whole lot of my album that I'm putting out, but I just dropped the single.
- 42:43[SPEAKER_00]: ABC Bounce, the second one is called Party Time.
- 42:45[SPEAKER_00]: It's real cute.
- 42:46[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you know, baby music is cute.
- 42:47[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I'm saying?
- 42:49[SPEAKER_00]: Real bounce bounce, clap, shake, shake, tap, tap, like real cute, you know, but it makes the kids, you know, feel the feel it.
- 42:57[SPEAKER_00]: It's not, it's not like super sing singing, you know, it's more it's more teaching.
- 43:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 43:03[SPEAKER_00]: So I like the fact that all the music that I'm creating for this Lala Bai album.
- 43:09[SPEAKER_00]: It's more like nursery rye of lullaby is also educational and I ain't go hold you.
- 43:15[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a be honest Miss Rachel she definitely was an inspiration because I just love the whole she has on my baby
- 43:23[SPEAKER_00]: Miss Rachel, she has time and time transformed so many children's lives, and I just love the initiative she stands behind.
- 43:34[SPEAKER_00]: She's all about equality, especially for our children.
- 43:40[SPEAKER_00]: So I reached out to her, and I said, I love all that you do.
- 43:44[SPEAKER_00]: And if there's anything, any way shape, I can be a part of whatever you got going on, you let me know.
- 43:50[SPEAKER_00]: She reached back out.
- 43:51[SPEAKER_00]: I love what you do, too.
- 43:53[SPEAKER_00]: And now we follow each other.
- 43:55[SPEAKER_01]: I said, oh, Ms. Rachel, follow me, Rachel.
- 43:58[SPEAKER_01]: Praise Lord.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_00]: But you just never know where that universe could be universe and Ms. Rachel, let's do a record together.
- 44:04[SPEAKER_00]: I'm serious.
- 44:05[SPEAKER_00]: You just never know how it can go.
- 44:07[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I'm saying?
- 44:08[SPEAKER_01]: Let's tag with Rachel.
- 44:09[SPEAKER_01]: We go, we go, we go, click this up.
- 44:10[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 44:11[SPEAKER_01]: Let's tag with Rachel.
- 44:12[SPEAKER_01]: We got a Gabby.
- 44:13[SPEAKER_00]: So she was my inspiration to start doing children's music.
- 44:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 44:18[SPEAKER_00]: And I honestly opened up my own children's network.
- 44:23[SPEAKER_00]: Nice.
- 44:24[SPEAKER_00]: It's called the royalty TV network.
- 44:27[SPEAKER_00]: And the reason why I named the royalty is because I named my children's line for my child, royalty kids.
- 44:34[SPEAKER_00]: So royalty kids, my son already has a business, he sells t-shirts, pants, you name it for children.
- 44:41[SPEAKER_00]: And it's, you know, on the back.
- 44:43[SPEAKER_01]: There might be a connection to my wife, right, shows us books.
- 44:46[SPEAKER_01]: And the line of her books, you want to know what the line of her books is called?
- 44:49[SPEAKER_00]: Rality.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_01]: I am Rality.
- 44:50[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 44:51[SPEAKER_01]: So she has a, so she's written nine children books, so like my, you know, I'm from, my parents are from Haiti.
- 44:55[SPEAKER_01]: So, uh-huh.
- 44:56[SPEAKER_01]: Ration.
- 44:57[SPEAKER_01]: And so she did five books on the Haitian Revolution.
- 45:00[SPEAKER_01]: And she's done Queen Zenga, uh, Mansa Moosa, um, and so it's really, so, I mean, she started writing those books because our kids.
- 45:09[SPEAKER_01]: So we have a 18-year-old, and 11-year-old, but when they were smaller, we were looking for,
- 45:15[SPEAKER_01]: books about us, and we can find it.
- 45:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so that she started the I'm royalty line.
- 45:19[SPEAKER_00]: It's so amazing how our children can inspire us.
- 45:21[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely, 1,000%.
- 45:22[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's what they're supposed to be in for us.
- 45:24[SPEAKER_00]: No, we're supposed to inspire them.
- 45:26[SPEAKER_00]: It's so crazy how it rolls reverse sometimes.
- 45:29[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, so I opened up royalty kids' network.
- 45:33[SPEAKER_00]: And I put out affirmations right now on the YouTube.
- 45:36[SPEAKER_00]: It's just affirmations for kids.
- 45:38[SPEAKER_00]: And obviously music and things like that.
- 45:40[SPEAKER_00]: You just never know what it's going to go.
- 45:42[SPEAKER_00]: I actually talked to T-Lo.
- 45:45[SPEAKER_00]: division on your network.
- 45:47[SPEAKER_00]: So maybe on Trend TV since it's more positive driven, we'll have the children's division on that.
- 45:53[SPEAKER_00]: It's awesome.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_01]: It's awesome.
- 45:55[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to see you in movies, like what we're doing there.
- 46:00[SPEAKER_00]: Of course, you know, listen, reality TV isn't just it.
- 46:03[SPEAKER_00]: I have done TV shows and movies already.
- 46:06[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I did a show called Pump, it was Rage, Terrell, what's his last name, Terrell, damn it.
- 46:14[SPEAKER_00]: He played a beauty and black, but he was a lawyer.
- 46:17[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the lawyer, yeah, he was my husband on the show.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_00]: We actually started telling our red carpet recently from B.C.
- 46:25[SPEAKER_00]: Weekend.
- 46:26[SPEAKER_00]: It was actually some of my dad, it was like 360.
- 46:30[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm like, man, I'm so proud of you.
- 46:31[SPEAKER_00]: You didn't just elevate it from when we did our film.
- 46:34[SPEAKER_00]: It was really nice to see.
- 46:36[SPEAKER_00]: And I kid you not being in LA last weekend for the awards, it put an extra boost in my back.
- 46:44[SPEAKER_00]: Cause I,
- 46:45[SPEAKER_00]: was there to witness Sylvia Rowan get honored and, you know, Sylvia Rowan, she is the ghost.
- 46:52[SPEAKER_00]: You know, she's legendary and I sat next to her while she was being honored by Montescape and I felt her presence and listening to all the amazing performance singing their live music.
- 47:03[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just like, man.
- 47:05[SPEAKER_00]: I can't let this God give and give, just sit and be dormant.
- 47:12[SPEAKER_00]: I gotta do something with this.
- 47:14[SPEAKER_00]: So you know, it really put a batter in my back and I'm really now like I'm like, what we're going to do after this premiere of this, we're going to get in the studio, we're going, we're going to rock out, we're going to do some, you know, I'll be hit up at a black stone from, you know, head of the music event, what we're going to do, what we're doing.
- 47:29[SPEAKER_00]: So I got some things in the works now, and I end the one to just talk, baby, you know, being from New York, you do, you work quick.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you got to.
- 47:37[SPEAKER_00]: LA is slow, you know, LA is slow, too, like, I work fast.
- 47:42[SPEAKER_00]: I get things done, real fast.
- 47:43[SPEAKER_00]: When I say it's going to be done, it's done already.
- 47:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah.
- 47:46[SPEAKER_01]: When you think, when you think,
- 47:48[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, uh, 30 years from now, what is, what is the, the, the legend of Cherice Mills?
- 47:57[SPEAKER_01]: What is?
- 47:59[SPEAKER_00]: I'm hoping it can happen sooner than 30, but I feel like I am going to
- 48:05[SPEAKER_00]: resonate with my voice to millions of people.
- 48:10[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to help millions of babies with my lullaby and children's networks.
- 48:18[SPEAKER_00]: I want to really inspire and motivate young women.
- 48:23[SPEAKER_00]: I want to be different and get out that box and know that it's okay and you're going to succeed and always be smart with business.
- 48:31[SPEAKER_00]: Don't just put your eggs in one basket.
- 48:34[SPEAKER_00]: be, well, you can do it all, you can't let someone say, oh, you're doing this.
- 48:38[SPEAKER_00]: You can't do that.
- 48:39[SPEAKER_00]: You can.
- 48:40[SPEAKER_00]: You can.
- 48:41[SPEAKER_00]: And let me tell you, when you're doing things for the love and passion, money will come.
- 48:45[SPEAKER_00]: So if money is not coming from your passion, make sure you have another business that's going to take care of your bills too.
- 48:51[SPEAKER_00]: And that's how why I did my way training business.
- 48:55[SPEAKER_00]: That's why I did my agency while I was in college.
- 48:58[SPEAKER_00]: I did those things to flourish the thing that I love and I just all worked out to where I was able to do all the things that I wanted to do.
- 49:08[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't have to ask for no favors.
- 49:10[SPEAKER_00]: I don't have to go break my neck and do nothing.
- 49:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 49:14[SPEAKER_00]: I paid for it all.
- 49:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 49:16[SPEAKER_00]: My feature was French.
- 49:17[SPEAKER_00]: I paid for that.
- 49:18[SPEAKER_00]: It was no favors.
- 49:20[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, and it was a pretty pretty French.
- 49:21[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to need you to start promoting that record more.
- 49:25[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I'm saying, but you know, it's like hard work, dedication, and discipline.
- 49:33[SPEAKER_00]: Very important.
- 49:35[SPEAKER_00]: Don't take no shortcuts.
- 49:37[SPEAKER_00]: Don't take no shortcuts, guys.
- 49:39[SPEAKER_00]: Seriously.
- 49:41[SPEAKER_01]: If you can go back and talk to 18-year-old Cherice, what advice do you give him here?
- 49:50[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, man, I would have invested my money in some more stocks and stuff, you know, I know I wasn't the best when it came to
- 50:00[SPEAKER_00]: put in my money in the right places, you know.
- 50:03[SPEAKER_00]: So I definitely would go back and invest more in that, especially now, know how AI and all this stuff came about man.
- 50:10[SPEAKER_00]: I would have been a billionaire if I really got into it.
- 50:13[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 50:14[SPEAKER_01]: You know, Tesla, all that, you know.
- 50:16[SPEAKER_00]: And it's so funny, because a friend of mine in Vegas, she got into Bitcoin when it was like, at its lowest.
- 50:21[SPEAKER_00]: And she told me about it.
- 50:22[SPEAKER_00]: She said, she should, I had Bitcoin.
- 50:24[SPEAKER_00]: That's not my Bitcoin with the heck.
- 50:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 50:31[SPEAKER_00]: She was like multi-millionaire for that.
- 50:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 50:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 50:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 50:36[SPEAKER_00]: I can't miss that one.
- 50:37[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I still got a big one.
- 50:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 50:40[SPEAKER_00]: But I didn't get it when she got it.
- 50:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 50:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 50:43[SPEAKER_00]: But you got to get into things early.
- 50:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 50:46[SPEAKER_00]: You see, technology is the way it is AI.
- 50:51[SPEAKER_00]: and get into that early, don't shut up on it because we are going to come and you are going to be left in the dark.
- 50:59[SPEAKER_01]: And that's the thing, even with like technology, and that's why I mean I love that you've been innovative and you've used anything that you had access to to boss up, right?
- 51:10[SPEAKER_01]: Because you know, you could have like from the agency perspective, you could have said, you know what, I'm just going to be a model.
- 51:16[SPEAKER_01]: But you say, well, this agency, I could have been straight with that.
- 51:19[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
- 51:20[SPEAKER_01]: Or when you think about using a product, you say, hey, I'm a sell the product.
- 51:24[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of times, we become consumers and not producers.
- 51:28[SPEAKER_01]: And so even when you start thinking about technology and AI, you know,
- 51:33[SPEAKER_01]: We're only, you know, most of us are just using it, right?
- 51:36[SPEAKER_01]: We talk to chat every day, but we're not, you know, we're not producing with it and we should be, you have to find ways to make money from it.
- 51:43[SPEAKER_00]: That doesn't fit you, not use you.
- 51:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 51:46[SPEAKER_00]: You know, AI still won't work without you.
- 51:48[SPEAKER_01]: I'll chew absolutely.
- 51:49[SPEAKER_00]: He's a little, I think it's going to replace it.
- 51:51[SPEAKER_00]: No, you still won't have to run it.
- 51:53[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
- 51:54[SPEAKER_01]: Gobbage and garbage out.
- 51:55[SPEAKER_01]: If you don't, if you can't prompt it right, it's not, it's not.
- 51:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 51:58[SPEAKER_00]: And I tell you this time and time again, like, you know, you just have to figure out a way to use it for your benefit and I was going to elevate what you got going on, you know, saying you, for example, you know, you write books, you can help you with your books, it can free it, it can this, it can say you know what this chapter is great, but you know how you can tweak this, you can do that, that, that, that, that.
- 52:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's not called cheating.
- 52:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 52:18[SPEAKER_00]: That's actually hiring because back it before AI, you would hire someone to do that.
- 52:23[SPEAKER_00]: You would hire a free dirt.
- 52:26[SPEAKER_00]: You would hire someone to help fix any of your chapters and whatnot.
- 52:31[SPEAKER_00]: But now you don't go to do that, and it's faster.
- 52:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I literally, so I've been publishing books since 2009, so 15 years.
- 52:40[SPEAKER_01]: And so I've published 20 books on my own, maybe like 50 for other authors.
- 52:46[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I had a whole team at one time, right?
- 52:48[SPEAKER_01]: I had a whole team of, uh, like you said, editors, uh, you know, so much pretty goes into this.
- 52:54[SPEAKER_01]: And so when I, when I would, like, sign someone or if I helped somebody publish a book, like $25,000, but majority of that money was going to my team, that was paying.
- 53:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 53:04[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I don't, I'm not proud of this, but it works, but to your point is like, I don't know, lean team.
- 53:10[SPEAKER_01]: Like, now my publishing company is like four of us.
- 53:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 53:13[SPEAKER_01]: It's like four of us and AI is doing books in the first.
- 53:15[SPEAKER_00]: And it don't cost as much so you can actually produce more books and make more money without doing that.
- 53:23[SPEAKER_00]: You know, all right.
- 53:23[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to talk because you know, I got like seven books I got.
- 53:26[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to hold you.
- 53:29[SPEAKER_00]: how to run a Airbnb, Airbnb 101, how to clean.
- 53:32[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I got the whole series of Airbnb's, then I got a series of me, man, we're going to talk.
- 53:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, let's talk, because that's one of the other things is that thankfully, I've been able to, like, I can give you the whole blueprint on how to monetize that even beyond the book, right?
- 53:50[SPEAKER_01]: Like, how do we create the programs, the communities, the don't feel like, yeah, I think it's all about, right?
- 53:57[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, listen, there's a lot of money to be made out of like, you just gotta know what you, I was telling you this, right?
- 54:07[SPEAKER_00]: Whatever you're doing.
- 54:09[SPEAKER_00]: do what works for you so that people can believe in it.
- 54:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 54:13[SPEAKER_00]: Like, there's people who will go and sell a product, but would never use that product.
- 54:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 54:18[SPEAKER_00]: There's no integrity in that.
- 54:19[SPEAKER_01]: I agree.
- 54:20[SPEAKER_00]: That's why my waste training business and all that worked, because it's things that I actually use.
- 54:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah.
- 54:24[SPEAKER_00]: So I believed in it.
- 54:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 54:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 54:26[SPEAKER_00]: So what works for you, figure out what works for you, and then use that as a business.
- 54:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 54:32[SPEAKER_00]: So say, if you love, you know, doing nails or whatever,
- 54:37[SPEAKER_00]: maybe you need to find a stone company or whatever.
- 54:40[SPEAKER_00]: It's still within what you love and that's a business and a product.
- 54:44[SPEAKER_00]: Right?
- 54:44[SPEAKER_00]: A book about how now, like I'm telling you, there's so much ways to make money, but always have integrity within it.
- 54:51[SPEAKER_01]: One thousand.
- 54:51[SPEAKER_00]: Two where you believe in it.
- 54:54[SPEAKER_00]: to where you're not just selling all these things online.
- 54:56[SPEAKER_00]: And people are like, oh, she just promote that, but she ain't never really used that thing.
- 54:59[SPEAKER_00]: That's exactly what I'm saying.
- 55:00[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I'm saying?
- 55:01[SPEAKER_00]: Like, my lips is shiny and whatnot.
- 55:03[SPEAKER_00]: Because this is my product.
- 55:05[SPEAKER_00]: I sell it and I use it.
- 55:07[SPEAKER_00]: This is a bad and bougie beauty, baby.
- 55:08[SPEAKER_01]: Had a bougie.
- 55:09[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 55:10[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I wear my stuff.
- 55:13[SPEAKER_00]: And I love it because it's moisturizing.
- 55:15[SPEAKER_00]: I've vetted.
- 55:16[SPEAKER_00]: The distributor that makes my product, I love the consistency, to where it feels good.
- 55:22[SPEAKER_01]: It's moist, right there on your mind, on your own life.
- 55:25[SPEAKER_00]: Social bougie store, it has all things bougie on there, right now I focus on cosmetics and skin care.
- 55:31[SPEAKER_00]: I have a new skin care line that's about to drop too, but do you sell it on tiktok shop?
- 55:36[SPEAKER_00]: No, I need to get in that.
- 55:37[SPEAKER_01]: I sell it out.
- 55:39[SPEAKER_00]: I know, but I'm sold out, like this particular one is sold out right now.
- 55:42[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, nice, okay.
- 55:43[SPEAKER_01]: You know, but.
- 55:44[SPEAKER_00]: I will, you know, I will.
- 55:46[SPEAKER_00]: I will get there.
- 55:47[SPEAKER_00]: It's like from again, I'll tell you right little investment and big return.
- 55:50[SPEAKER_01]: That's to me.
- 55:51[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 55:51[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 55:52[SPEAKER_00]: I ain't gonna go spend a 50 grand in in in products and then have a sit.
- 55:56[SPEAKER_01]: For sure.
- 55:56[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 55:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 55:57[SPEAKER_00]: I'd rather spend maybe, you know, 15 grand sell out fast and then y'all gonna have to wait for the rea, but it also, it's like Apple.
- 56:05[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
- 56:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 56:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 56:05[SPEAKER_01]: In the fall mall.
- 56:07[SPEAKER_00]: It's like Apple.
- 56:08[SPEAKER_00]: They could go make as many phones as they want because it's cheap, but they're not that doesn't develop that hype of a way, man, I can't get it right now.
- 56:16[SPEAKER_01]: Right, correct.
- 56:17[SPEAKER_00]: So now I got people buying five of these units.
- 56:19[SPEAKER_01]: That's when they come back and stuff.
- 56:20[SPEAKER_00]: It comes back and stuff.
- 56:21[SPEAKER_00]: Instead of one for that time, does it?
- 56:23[SPEAKER_01]: That's great.
- 56:23[SPEAKER_01]: It's a great marketing.
- 56:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, for sure.
- 56:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah.
- 56:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's a bad for beauty, guys.
- 56:28[SPEAKER_01]: This is a great interview.
- 56:30[SPEAKER_01]: Is there anything, this is a great interview.
- 56:33[SPEAKER_01]: I appreciate you.
- 56:35[SPEAKER_01]: I'm glad.
- 56:37[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I was able to learn your story and really kind of help amplify what you got going on.
- 56:42[SPEAKER_01]: Definitely looking forward to seeing you know, let's get past all the scandal.
- 56:46[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, because there's lots of scandal.
- 56:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 56:48[SPEAKER_00]: I kid you know, I never really had all that scandal before my my my my situations.
- 56:53[SPEAKER_00]: It's just like, man, I was always private with my business.
- 56:57[SPEAKER_00]: Nobody ever saw me cry.
- 56:58[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I was like, I'll cry and private.
- 57:01[SPEAKER_00]: I would do all that in private.
- 57:02[SPEAKER_00]: All you're going to see is me being this boss, bad bitch, and probably.
- 57:06[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 57:07[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like being more vulnerable, make allow me to get closer to my fans now.
- 57:14[SPEAKER_00]: Because then they can say, wait a minute, she's just like me.
- 57:16[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 57:17[SPEAKER_01]: She's real.
- 57:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 57:18[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 57:19[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's that disconnect that I was having before.
- 57:23[SPEAKER_00]: And letting nobody know, hey, listen, I've been there.
- 57:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 57:27[SPEAKER_00]: I know what you're going to.
- 57:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 57:29[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I'm saying?
- 57:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 57:31[SPEAKER_00]: They feel like I'm not relatable.
- 57:32[SPEAKER_00]: I am.
- 57:33[SPEAKER_01]: Mm-hmm.
- 57:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 57:34[SPEAKER_00]: And I made just like a lot of bougie stuff, but you know, I know what it takes to get there.
- 57:38[SPEAKER_01]: For sure.
- 57:39[SPEAKER_01]: For sure.
- 57:41[SPEAKER_01]: Is there anything that I didn't ask you that you were like, yeah, Ash, I wish you would have asked me this, or some type of, you know, words of wisdom you want to leave with all audience.
- 57:52[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, man, we touched on a lot of things.
- 57:54[SPEAKER_00]: I guess, you know, never, ever, you're afraid to start your life over.
- 58:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 58:05[SPEAKER_00]: It's not, it's not, it's not a bad thing to want to do that.
- 58:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 58:09[SPEAKER_01]: How do that feel, though, like, like, making a million dollars, you know,
- 58:16[SPEAKER_01]: college, early age, you went through, you know, a down time had the, you know, stay with a friend for two years.
- 58:24[SPEAKER_01]: That contrast, like, while you're going to it, not after you get out of there, right?
- 58:28[SPEAKER_01]: But while you're going to, like, what was, what was going to your mind?
- 58:32[SPEAKER_01]: What, you know, how did that feel?
- 58:34[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I had moments where I was, I was very depressed, you know, but again, I was having my faith and I'm so grateful to have a mother that I have because my mother was always supportive, always right there by my side.
- 58:49[SPEAKER_00]: You see me, you see her.
- 58:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 58:51[SPEAKER_00]: You know, that was always the thing, me and my mom was tag team and honest, the my mom used to come to parties with me too, like my mom was always there with me, every step of the way, every step of the way.
- 59:01[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm so grateful to have that support.
- 59:04[SPEAKER_00]: Because I feel like without that, I probably wouldn't have pushed as hard as I did.
- 59:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 59:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 59:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 59:09[SPEAKER_00]: So with that being said, hold on to your family and your parents.
- 59:12[SPEAKER_00]: That's what I want to say.
- 59:14[SPEAKER_00]: no matter what you've been through in your life, if you have not a good relationship with your family, make a men's because you need that.
- 59:22[SPEAKER_00]: We can't do this on our own life, you know, in business and stuff, you can't do it.
- 59:28[SPEAKER_00]: You need a good team.
- 59:30[SPEAKER_00]: That's where I messed up.
- 59:31[SPEAKER_00]: I felt like I could do it all by myself.
- 59:33[SPEAKER_00]: You can't.
- 59:34[SPEAKER_00]: So, make sure you do that.
- 59:36[SPEAKER_00]: Love one another
