- 0:16Speaker 1: So this is a very special Horror Club exclusive episode
- 0:21Speaker 1: where we talk about a movie, could be any movie,
- 0:25Speaker 1: but we'd like you to pick the movies if you
- 0:27Speaker 1: were a member of the Horror Club. If not, we
- 0:31Speaker 1: have to come up with our own. Now this week
- 0:33Speaker 1: was a special one because after we announced our last
- 0:36Speaker 1: Horror Club movie, I was out looking for geek things
- 0:40Speaker 1: like I do and came across this movie and I went, wait.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Is that what we're talking about next?
- 0:45Speaker 3: I don't, I don't know if it is.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Well, I'm going to buy it either way. I don't
- 0:49Speaker 2: think it is, but I'm going to buy it anyway.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Hellfest is what I have. Which is almost the movie
- 0:56Speaker 1: we watched this week.
- 0:57Speaker 3: I kept having to go back and look to remember
- 1:00Speaker 3: which one we were watching.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Because I'm pretty sure that's also streaming. So I brought
- 1:03Speaker 2: it up and went, no, that's not the one. I
- 1:05Speaker 2: already have that one. I bought it a week ago.
- 1:07Speaker 4: Well, I mean, clearly this is a different movie because
- 1:11Speaker 4: the guy in the creepy mask has an axe. And
- 1:15Speaker 4: there's a Ferris wheel.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Yeah, there's no Ferris wheel at Bloodfest.
- 1:18Speaker 3: It's a pretty fun one, though. I enjoyed it.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Witch held this?
- 1:22Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, then she wants to put it on the list.
- 1:26Speaker 1: But you could say that's a terrible idea, Nora.
- 1:29Speaker 2: No, don't do that. And put a different movie on
- 1:32Speaker 2: our list if you join the horror club.
- 1:34Speaker 3: Yes. Tell me I'm wrong. All the time.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Oh, so there was that one I ran across. But
- 1:41Speaker 2: then I thought, occasionally we like to go with these others.
- 1:46Speaker 2: I like to think of them as threats at this point.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Like, if you guys don't give us a better movie,
- 1:51Speaker 1: we're going to have to watch this crap that I find.
- 1:53Speaker 2: This one I ran across.
- 1:54Speaker 4: You're going to have to listen to us talk about it.
- 1:56Speaker 1: You're going to have to live with the horror that is,
- 1:58Speaker 1: you made these poor bastards watch this movie because you
- 2:01Speaker 1: didn't come up with a better option.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Yesterday, I ran across Bride of the Scarecrow.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Which there's a creepy scarecrow and this chick standing next
- 2:11Speaker 1: to it on the cover and i was like well
- 2:13Speaker 1: that looks terrible let's see what this is about so
- 2:15Speaker 1: if you flip it over the story according to the
- 2:19Speaker 1: back says when a failing radio host finds out that
- 2:23Speaker 1: she's inherited a farmhouse from a family she never knew
- 2:27Speaker 1: she had wait.
- 2:28Speaker 4: Isn't that a new ghostbuster she leaves.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Her job and sets off to the countryside Once there,
- 2:34Speaker 1: she discovers that the farm and the dark history of
- 2:37Speaker 1: the people disappearing, never to be heard from again. Digging
- 2:43Speaker 1: deeper for answers, she realizes this farm is cursed by
- 2:48Speaker 1: something evil.
- 2:50Speaker 2: And now it's looking to take a bride.
- 2:55Speaker 4: I feel like that description was an assignment for... 50 words. Well,
- 3:02Speaker 4: learning English for non-native speakers class.
- 3:05Speaker 2: I thought it was like.
- 3:06Speaker 4: Just write this movie for me.
- 3:07Speaker 1: To like a grade school kid. You'd be like, it
- 3:08Speaker 1: has to be at least 50 words.
- 3:10Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:11Speaker 1: She was very, very, very scared from the very scary,
- 3:15Speaker 1: very scarecrow.
- 3:18Speaker 3: I like that the poor Scarecrow guy is so lonely.
- 3:21Speaker 3: He just wants to get married.
- 3:22Speaker 2: He's getting older.
- 3:23Speaker 4: He just needs to settle down.
- 3:25Speaker 3: He doesn't want to be alone in his old age.
- 3:27Speaker 4: Does that mean the sequel is the son of Scarecrow?
- 3:31Speaker 2: Daughter of Scarecrow? Divorce of Scarecrow.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Dilapidated farm of Scarecrow that no one inherited and no
- 3:39Speaker 1: one took over.
- 3:40Speaker 4: Sad bachelor pad of divorce of Scarecrow.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:43Speaker 2: I'd watch that.
- 3:45Speaker 4: Why aren't we writing this stuff down?
- 3:47Speaker 2: If only we were recording all of this.
- 3:50Speaker 4: I do feel like we come up with so many
- 3:52Speaker 4: movie ideas that can't be worse than what we're talking about. Again,
- 3:58Speaker 4: can't be worse.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Than many of our previous movies.
- 4:04Speaker 1: That having been said, you can hear us talk about
- 4:07Speaker 1: movies all the time and say amazing things like we
- 4:10Speaker 1: did about this week's movie.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Okay we've gone too far with the meta guys we've.
- 4:15Speaker 1: Gone too far because and this is coming from someone
- 4:20Speaker 1: who just a few episodes ago went on and on
- 4:22Speaker 1: about the new scream which is doing the same thing
- 4:25Speaker 1: it's weirdos wanting to make a horror movie because they
- 4:28Speaker 1: like horror movies so they're going to create their own
- 4:31Speaker 1: horror movie because other movies aren't good enough for them this.
- 4:34Speaker 2: Is kind of the same plot It was.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Like a weird ditted doll that I was just like,
- 4:40Speaker 1: that by itself is disturbing, but they brought it and
- 4:42Speaker 1: made you hold it next to your face.
- 4:45Speaker 4: There's questions that I had while I'm watching it that
- 4:51Speaker 4: weren't necessarily essential to the plot, but more of like,
- 4:55Speaker 4: you've talked about the real world setting of things many times,
- 4:58Speaker 4: and it's like.
- 5:00Speaker 2: It's so layered, what he's doing. It's also not playing.
- 5:06Speaker 1: There are many stereotypes that could come into play in
- 5:09Speaker 1: the middle.
- 5:09Speaker 2: Of this story. He's not leaning on any of those.
- 5:12Speaker 1: He is playing his own specific character. And then on
- 5:15Speaker 1: top of that, there's like a couple extra layers of
- 5:18Speaker 1: what he's doing. Where in this scene, it's coming off
- 5:21Speaker 1: one way. In another scene, he's like, whoa.
- 5:24Speaker 2: It's subtle.
- 5:25Speaker 1: But he's like throwing in this extra little bit of like, okay,
- 5:28Speaker 1: there's something going on here. And then like, there's nine
- 5:31Speaker 1: more twists that come around. Yeah.
- 5:34Speaker 2: So even when they start getting picked off, you're just like, yeah, whatever.
- 5:37Speaker 1: So it's only when we get to that big reveal
- 5:40Speaker 1: of the orchestration of it that makes it interesting.
- 5:42Speaker 2: I think if it was just that first half, you'd
- 5:44Speaker 2: be like, this is kind of a dumb movie. So
- 5:47Speaker 2: you take that same actor, you put him in this,
- 5:50Speaker 2: and I'm like, I like that guy. This character, I'm like,
- 5:54Speaker 2: I don't know. He has nothing. He wants to get laid.
- 5:56Speaker 1: And he's not really a bad guy. That's really all
- 5:58Speaker 1: I've got by the end of it. He seems like
- 5:59Speaker 1: he's got a good heart, and he still wants to
- 6:01Speaker 1: get laid. I get both of them.
- 6:04Speaker 2: Sorry, good for you.
- 6:05Speaker 4: I do remember thinking, though, in the meantime, he has
- 6:10Speaker 4: developed groundbreaking technology which.
- 6:13Speaker 2: Can literally raise.
- 6:15Speaker 4: The dead and cause people to go crazy.
- 6:18Speaker 3: Mind control.
- 6:19Speaker 4: And, I mean, the government contracts for those two things.
- 6:22Speaker 2: Yeah, really? That's where your money is right there.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Which leads me to, I want to get to a
- 6:29Speaker 1: lot of the, because I think that's what goes into
- 6:32Speaker 1: the bigger picture of what's wrong here, is just, we
- 6:37Speaker 1: go back to, I don't know, clowns fighting zombies or whatever,
- 6:39Speaker 1: which I guess people should think is awesome, but no, no,
- 6:42Speaker 1: the clowns still ruin everything for me.
- 6:45Speaker 4: But at least Cabin in the Woods, they do you
- 6:48Speaker 4: the service of slowly revealing what's going on. This movie,
- 6:52Speaker 4: they're just like, ten minutes into it, it's like, everybody
- 6:55Speaker 4: dies tonight!
- 6:57Speaker 3: And then the scene where she's like taking the shower
- 6:59Speaker 3: and I'm like, you're running from like hundreds of people
- 7:05Speaker 3: who are trying to kill you. How can you... You
- 7:10Speaker 3: are going to not only just take a shower.
- 7:12Speaker 2: I like your frustration. It's me watching it the first time.
- 7:17Speaker 3: And then you're going to stop and lose your virginity
- 7:20Speaker 3: right now?
- 7:21Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, that one I could see happening. The
- 7:23Speaker 1: shower is way more far-fetched than that. Do I get
- 7:26Speaker 1: killed or lose my virginity?
- 7:28Speaker 2: Virginity wins.
- 7:29Speaker 1: So I could see that one happening. The shower, though,
- 7:33Speaker 1: I believe my note said, yes, that's.
- 7:36Speaker 2: This is a great time to take a shower. Good idea.
- 7:41Speaker 4: But instead it's like, dumb broad's taking a shower.
- 7:44Speaker 2: What the hell?
- 7:45Speaker 4: Sorry for my repeated use of the word broad.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Not the dumb part.
- 7:49Speaker 4: I stand by that.
- 7:50Speaker 2: Please refer to her by her character name, topless girl
- 7:53Speaker 2: number four.
- 7:54Speaker 3: Yeah. And then the like, traitorous park employee guy.
- 8:01Speaker 2: What was that about?
- 8:04Speaker 1: That scene does not carry for the rest of this
- 8:06Speaker 1: movie to make it all okay when we get to
- 8:08Speaker 1: the finale.
- 8:10Speaker 4: Did we see any of that?
- 8:12Speaker 1: No.
- 8:13Speaker 3: It was like this big revelation that by the time
- 8:16Speaker 3: it came, we're just like, okay.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Well, and again, if it was just that, like that
- 8:20Speaker 1: one dad in the finale is like the weak spot.
- 8:23Speaker 2: But it's not. It's like the most basic stuff. I'm like,
- 8:28Speaker 2: did they work there? Were they just hanging out there?
- 8:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:30Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 8:31Speaker 1: The scene was set up so awkwardly. I'm like, I
- 8:33Speaker 1: don't know where they are. I don't know what they're
- 8:35Speaker 1: doing there. They're just having a conversation. They're surrounded by
- 8:37Speaker 1: a bunch of movies. Again, in the middle of Scream,
- 8:40Speaker 1: that made sense. It was also a long damn time
- 8:43Speaker 1: ago when you would be at a movie store. That
- 8:45Speaker 1: store doesn't exist anymore unless it's some sort of specialized novelty, which.
- 8:49Speaker 2: You should probably introduce that in the beginning so we
- 8:51Speaker 2: know where the hell they are.
- 8:52Speaker 3: What movie is he going to make with all that security?
- 8:56Speaker 2: Yeah, again.
- 8:57Speaker 3: Are you going to stitch together just a bunch of
- 9:00Speaker 3: little clips of people dying?
- 9:01Speaker 2: That's not a movie. That's called Faces of Death and
- 9:04Speaker 2: I've watched about four of them.
- 9:06Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly.
- 9:07Speaker 2: And even at the time I was like, I don't
- 9:08Speaker 2: know about some of these.
- 9:11Speaker 4: This one you're starting with like 50 chainsaw wielding maniacs
- 9:15Speaker 4: who are willing to kill 300 people. And then later
- 9:20Speaker 4: we find out that, oh yeah, you program them by
- 9:22Speaker 4: making them... That would take so much effort and would
- 9:26Speaker 4: draw so much attention. Why is this esteemed psychologist guy
- 9:32Speaker 4: making this many people watch that movie this many times?
- 9:38Speaker 3: And what a stupid way to prove your point. What?
- 9:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:44Speaker 3: Has he ever been in any horror things?
- 9:47Speaker 2: I don't know. I mean, Shazam.
- 9:50Speaker 1: We want to make something that's kind of like Hellraiser,
- 9:53Speaker 1: but we don't want to get sued.
- 9:54Speaker 3: That was a fun one.
- 9:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Again, you cannot be prepared for that.
- 9:59Speaker 3: Uh-uh.
- 10:01Speaker 2: Usually, movies that have dated that much, you go back
- 10:05Speaker 2: and you're like, whatever. I don't know why everybody's making
- 10:06Speaker 2: a big deal out of that. But that one?
- 10:09Speaker 4: Whenever you have a horror movie that's since Scream, if
- 10:13Speaker 4: you have a horror movie that blatantly says, we have
- 10:18Speaker 4: to follow the rules... That's when it's like, okay.
- 10:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:22Speaker 4: There's gotta be a better way to say that.
- 10:25Speaker 2: Like, shouldn't you be chasing them from one thing to
- 10:28Speaker 2: another so that there's some reason for all this?
- 10:30Speaker 3: No.
- 10:31Speaker 2: No, let's just have them pop up again at the end. Yeah, because...
- 10:33Speaker 2: And then take their mask off and go, wait, do
- 10:35Speaker 2: I know that person?
- 10:38Speaker 3: What would you guys put in your own personal blood fest?
- 10:41Speaker 3: What movies?
- 10:42Speaker 2: What are the rules of this blood fest? Since obviously
- 10:44Speaker 2: this one has no rules.
- 10:46Speaker 3: No rules.
- 10:47Speaker 2: But, I mean.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Are we running like it's a marathon? Because this one
- 10:51Speaker 1: didn't make any sense. I'm like, they weren't showing.
- 10:53Speaker 2: Movies at Bloodfest.
- 10:55Speaker 1: So are we showing movies or we're recreating movies that
- 10:58Speaker 1: people then have to walk through?
- 11:00Speaker 3: I'm thinking from like a pure art direction standpoint. Like
- 11:03Speaker 3: if you could make like five little worlds.
- 11:07Speaker 2: Okay, little worlds. That's totally different than what movies you
- 11:10Speaker 2: want to watch. Well, clearly.
- 11:12Speaker 3: Well, you think that... See, this is what, we can't,
- 11:15Speaker 3: we get too deep into this.
- 11:17Speaker 2: That's what we do. That's why we're here.
- 11:19Speaker 3: But if you already have this like mind control wristband technology,
- 11:23Speaker 3: couldn't you have just rolled that in with the zombie
- 11:25Speaker 3: thing and just be like, it's the wristbands.
- 11:27Speaker 2: No, Nora.
- 11:28Speaker 4: You clearly could not.
- 11:32Speaker 1: So join the Meltdown Horror Club and you can give
