- 0:00Speaker 1: Just one week to go till the NFL Draft.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Today we're breaking down the tight ends and the running
- 0:04Speaker 2: backs and all the latest news.
- 0:05Speaker 3: Let's do it with the.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Thirty first pick, the New England Patriots.
- 0:09Speaker 2: What Welcome everybody to Patriots Draft Countdown presented by bud Light,
- 0:17Speaker 2: Easy to Drink, Easy to Enjoy. Bud Light is the
- 0:19Speaker 2: official beer sponsor of the New England Patriots and guys,
- 0:21Speaker 2: we're just a little over one week out.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Finally. I know it seems a little shorter.
- 0:25Speaker 3: This year because we were at the Super Bowl, so
- 0:27Speaker 3: it wasn't was it.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Did you get through it all right?
- 0:29Speaker 2: I mean this process of the draft, you feel like
- 0:31Speaker 2: you've gotten a handle on this class.
- 0:33Speaker 4: I think I'm there now.
- 0:34Speaker 1: You know.
- 0:35Speaker 5: I had a little panic set in when I started
- 0:37Speaker 5: working on the draft because of how late of a
- 0:40Speaker 5: start we got. But that caused me to like really
- 0:42Speaker 5: cram even more. I feel like into a short period
- 0:45Speaker 5: of time. So we're in a good spot now. I
- 0:47Speaker 5: think we got a feel for the thing.
- 0:49Speaker 4: Mike, I go for it.
- 0:50Speaker 2: We got Paul here, Paul someone who's used to picking
- 0:52Speaker 2: near the bottom of the first round.
- 0:53Speaker 3: The rest of us were like, Hey, where's our top
- 0:55Speaker 3: five pick.
- 0:55Speaker 1: But Paul, this is familiar territory forget.
- 0:57Speaker 6: I'm just glad they didn't decide to push the draft
- 0:59Speaker 6: back because and wasn't quite prepared yet.
- 1:02Speaker 4: I'm getting there.
- 1:02Speaker 5: I saw have like maybe like eight guys that I
- 1:05Speaker 5: really need to get to over the next week.
- 1:07Speaker 6: But we're Yeah, it is challenging a little bit. And
- 1:10Speaker 6: I can only imagine, you know, in real life, in
- 1:12Speaker 6: other words, the actual personnel department that matter, you know.
- 1:16Speaker 1: And you know, and it's the coaches.
- 1:17Speaker 6: Because the scouts obviously are doing all their work all
- 1:20Speaker 6: year round, regardless of the the caliber of the team,
- 1:24Speaker 6: it's the coaches and whatnot that are getting caught up
- 1:28Speaker 6: to all the information. So yeah, it's a little bit
- 1:30Speaker 6: of a different dynamic. Belichick used to sort of quote
- 1:33Speaker 6: unquote complain about it, and and Vrabel has been the
- 1:36Speaker 6: same way.
- 1:36Speaker 1: You know, they're playing catch up, but at this point
- 1:39Speaker 1: you caught up.
- 1:39Speaker 4: I think you rely a lot on your elliot.
- 1:42Speaker 5: Wolf was talking at his pre press conference about the
- 1:45Speaker 5: coaches list, So like, the board kind of goes through
- 1:48Speaker 5: the scouts and goes through the personnel people that have
- 1:51Speaker 5: been focused on the draft, and then they only really
- 1:54Speaker 5: give the try to give the coaches like a refined
- 1:57Speaker 5: list of here's like eight to ten guys at your
- 1:59Speaker 5: position that we want you to watch, instead of here's
- 2:02Speaker 5: fifty at your position.
- 2:04Speaker 4: That you want you watch.
- 2:04Speaker 5: So you rely a lot on you know, those scouts
- 2:07Speaker 5: to get the list down to a comfortable limit. And
- 2:09Speaker 5: then he mentioned that Mike Rabel has taken all of
- 2:12Speaker 5: the play the lists for the position coaches and he's
- 2:15Speaker 5: watched every single position, whereas maybe if you're Ashton Grant,
- 2:19Speaker 5: you're only watching Day three quarterbacks.
- 2:22Speaker 3: Two quarterbacks.
- 2:22Speaker 5: Yeah, right, like it, So your job might be a
- 2:24Speaker 5: little bit easier than Doug Moron, who might have to
- 2:27Speaker 5: watch fifty offensive linemen.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Yeah, we're about uti square.
- 2:30Speaker 3: If you landed here with this draft, I feeling it's.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Not my favorite draft.
- 2:33Speaker 7: I thought it was going to be edge, but the
- 2:35Speaker 7: past couple of days I think they're trading out of
- 2:37Speaker 7: the first round. I just think it's one of those
- 2:39Speaker 7: draft where you try to get depth, and I don't
- 2:41Speaker 7: think we're going to get a pick at thirty one personally.
- 2:43Speaker 3: I mean, I don't think it's crazy.
- 2:44Speaker 2: When we've talked about a little bit, Paul, if they
- 2:45Speaker 2: just traded down a little bit. I mean, you lose
- 2:47Speaker 2: that fifth year option, but maybe you pick up you know,
- 2:49Speaker 2: another day two pick.
- 2:51Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 2:51Speaker 6: I don't hate it generally, I'm anti trading down. But
- 2:54Speaker 6: this draft, this class, I think Matista's right. I don't
- 2:58Speaker 6: think it's you know, stocked with a bunch of can't
- 3:01Speaker 6: miss starting caliber players. So if the right opportunity presents itself.
- 3:06Speaker 6: Now the big question is I think in regard to
- 3:09Speaker 6: that is Ty Simpson does he sort of entice someone
- 3:12Speaker 6: to move into the bottom of the first round to.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Go get him, you know, and we'll find out.
- 3:17Speaker 4: You'll find out.
- 3:17Speaker 5: There's always that mini run of wide receivers usually late
- 3:22Speaker 5: first round, early second round receivers too. That would be
- 3:25Speaker 5: the only other spot. Now, I know Patriots fans hear
- 3:28Speaker 5: me say that, and like they're going to trade out
- 3:29Speaker 5: of a wide receiver pick like that.
- 3:31Speaker 4: Let's not do that again.
- 3:32Speaker 5: But Ty Simpson or you know, if they're not in
- 3:35Speaker 5: love with like a Denzel Boston, you know, or someone
- 3:37Speaker 5: like that, and they end up, you know, having a
- 3:39Speaker 5: team that's maybe picking at the top of the second
- 3:41Speaker 5: round that really likes Denzel Boston, then you could see
- 3:44Speaker 5: that sort of thing. You don't really see trade ups
- 3:46Speaker 5: for like non premium player positions like that, like a
- 3:51Speaker 5: guard or something like that.
- 3:52Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, well this is our last show before
- 3:55Speaker 2: the draft, at least live produce show. But we got
- 3:57Speaker 2: the tight ends and the running backs, kind of opposite
- 4:00Speaker 2: ends of the spectrum. Tight end, good group, Patriots.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Evan did his best.
- 4:05Speaker 2: He still gave us some running backs, but first talked
- 4:07Speaker 2: to Paige Demacos of the Draft Network. She gave us
- 4:09Speaker 2: her take on this draft as well as her A J.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Brown take, so check that out. We're excited now to
- 4:17Speaker 2: be joined by Paige Demacos from the Draft Network page.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Thanks for joining us here just over two weeks away
- 4:23Speaker 2: from the big draft.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Finally.
- 4:25Speaker 9: Yeah, I think it's that time of the year where
- 4:28Speaker 9: it's silly season, right, that's what I like to call it,
- 4:30Speaker 9: where there's a lot of information that's being leaked by
- 4:34Speaker 9: anonymous sources. Right, it's that time of the year, and
- 4:37Speaker 9: a lot of what's coming out is done in a
- 4:40Speaker 9: position to jockey for getting guys to go up and
- 4:43Speaker 9: down the boards.
- 4:43Speaker 10: Right, that's how this goes.
- 4:45Speaker 9: Ninety nine percent of what's coming out is coming from
- 4:47Speaker 9: a team trying to get somebody to actually believe what's
- 4:50Speaker 9: coming out, so that if they can get that guy
- 4:52Speaker 9: in a better spot, I e. The Jordan Tyson conversation
- 4:55Speaker 9: that's happening right now, so that that is that time
- 4:58Speaker 9: of the year. I cannot wait to to Pittsburgh so
- 5:00Speaker 9: silly season ends and we can actually start making some
- 5:03Speaker 9: real picks. So yeah, I'm very excited for this. This
- 5:07Speaker 9: next two weeks is going to drag on. It's going
- 5:09Speaker 9: to feel like a month and a half. It always does.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Oh amen, Well before we get specifically in the draft.
- 5:14Speaker 2: I mean, you had a great take, I thought, and
- 5:16Speaker 2: of course AJ Brown has just been kind of hanging
- 5:18Speaker 2: over this Patriots team. I want to say, it feels
- 5:20Speaker 2: like going on five years now, specifically now to the spring,
- 5:24Speaker 2: it seems like things might happen. We've been circling this.
- 5:28Speaker 2: I think we're all questioning is AJ Brown the answer?
- 5:30Speaker 2: But I want to know your thoughts on if the
- 5:32Speaker 2: Patriots should grab Aj Brown.
- 5:35Speaker 9: I've been pretty consistent on this and this is a
- 5:38Speaker 9: no for me. I don't understand any team evaluating what
- 5:44Speaker 9: his behavior has been like over the last two seasons
- 5:48Speaker 9: and thinking to themselves, yeah, it's going to be better
- 5:50Speaker 9: for me. You're talking about a Super Bowl champion, a
- 5:55Speaker 9: team that absolutely dismantled the Kansas City Chiefs in the
- 5:58Speaker 9: Super Bowl in an embarrassing fact for Casey. So you
- 6:02Speaker 9: think about that and the toppling of Mahomes and go, wow,
- 6:05Speaker 9: the Eagles must really have just been so happy, riding high,
- 6:09Speaker 9: feeling good. Oh no, we're reading books on the sideline
- 6:11Speaker 9: that year, like we can all pretend like that's a
- 6:14Speaker 9: normal thing. Everybody who's covered football, or played football or
- 6:18Speaker 9: been around football on those absolutely damn well that that
- 6:20Speaker 9: is not true and that is not a normal thing
- 6:23Speaker 9: to do, not normal behavior. Now you've had Jalen Hurts,
- 6:26Speaker 9: who's a great leader and a more reserved guy who
- 6:30Speaker 9: hasn't been combative with AJ. But who's to say that
- 6:33Speaker 9: any other quarterback is going to handle what has been
- 6:35Speaker 9: going on with AJ better? And for me, when you're
- 6:39Speaker 9: talking about the young quarterback of Drake May and going
- 6:42Speaker 9: into year three, an important and very crucial year, I
- 6:46Speaker 9: don't want disruptive behavior in my locker room. I don't
- 6:49Speaker 9: want somebody who's coming in and culturally disrupting or thinks
- 6:53Speaker 9: he's the leader you need to continue to build off
- 6:55Speaker 9: of what you have. You need to have a guy
- 6:57Speaker 9: that continues to make Drake a better a better player,
- 7:01Speaker 9: and continues to help build him as a leader. And I,
- 7:04Speaker 9: as much as I trust Mike, we're able to literally
- 7:06Speaker 9: handle anything inside a locker room. I just don't think
- 7:09Speaker 9: that he wants this problem, honestly, I don't. And there
- 7:12Speaker 9: are a lot of great receivers in this draft class
- 7:15Speaker 9: who you can build and have part of your culture.
- 7:18Speaker 9: And I just look at this and go, what is
- 7:21Speaker 9: gonna make him happy?
- 7:22Speaker 10: Right?
- 7:23Speaker 9: Super Bowl champs? If that's the expectation and you're not happy,
- 7:27Speaker 9: what are.
- 7:28Speaker 10: You gonna do? Right? I don't know what's gonna make
- 7:30Speaker 10: him happy?
- 7:31Speaker 9: And I don't want to deal with Madden chats and
- 7:33Speaker 9: all the shenanigans that's been going on with AJ. He's
- 7:36Speaker 9: a very talented guy, but it's at a certain point
- 7:39Speaker 9: when is he notugh enough? And the Boston media I
- 7:42Speaker 9: think would eat him alive.
- 7:44Speaker 2: Well, and it's all hanging over the Patriots and you
- 7:46Speaker 2: look at the draft, they're down at thirty one, kind
- 7:49Speaker 2: of a no man's land of picks. Usually you're waiting
- 7:51Speaker 2: to see maybe who falls through the cracks. I gotta
- 7:55Speaker 2: admit it's hard to see. Do you draft a guy
- 7:58Speaker 2: in the draft and then that takes Antonio or you know,
- 8:01Speaker 2: takes Brown out of the equation? What do you see
- 8:03Speaker 2: down there at thirty first overall? And I mean, I
- 8:06Speaker 2: gotta admit, there's a guy named Boston, I mean Boston
- 8:08Speaker 2: that seems like a pretty good fit for the Patriots
- 8:10Speaker 2: and outside guy some size. What do you think of
- 8:13Speaker 2: not only him, but just generally that spot for wide
- 8:16Speaker 2: receivers with concepcion the others that might be there.
- 8:19Speaker 9: I like Case a lot. I like Denzel Boston a lot.
- 8:22Speaker 9: I think there's a lot of depth at the position,
- 8:25Speaker 9: and I think they're going to be able to get
- 8:26Speaker 9: a guy that they really like at the thirty one. Honestly,
- 8:29Speaker 9: I think they're going to be able to sit there,
- 8:31Speaker 9: stampat and be able to evaluate on their draft board
- 8:34Speaker 9: who do they like and who's the highest guy there
- 8:37Speaker 9: at thirty one. I do think they're going to get
- 8:39Speaker 9: a guy that makes a difference. I think they're going
- 8:41Speaker 9: to get an instant impact starter. You this is a
- 8:44Speaker 9: nice class to come into when you need receiver. There's
- 8:47Speaker 9: a lot of very good impact Day one guys. I've
- 8:51Speaker 9: spent a lot of time around all of them. Most
- 8:53Speaker 9: of them are out here in Phoenix training at EXOS.
- 8:56Speaker 9: Of the top guys, I think ten of the top
- 8:58Speaker 9: twelve guys were.
- 8:59Speaker 10: All out here. Just a real alpha group of wide receivers.
- 9:03Speaker 10: Really a lot of.
- 9:04Speaker 9: Depth from how they all can run, really the whole
- 9:07Speaker 9: route tree, how they can be used, how versatile they
- 9:10Speaker 9: all are, really, how great they all were in college,
- 9:13Speaker 9: and how good the tape is coming out. This is
- 9:15Speaker 9: a really good class. And I like Denzel Boston. I
- 9:18Speaker 9: think obviously with the last name, it would be a fun,
- 9:20Speaker 9: fun little storyline there. Casey concept Sheana spent a lot
- 9:24Speaker 9: of time around. I know his agents really well. Just
- 9:27Speaker 9: the integrity of the player, the character, and just how
- 9:31Speaker 9: much he he just loves ball. Like there's certain people
- 9:34Speaker 9: that you talk about that you know. I've been in
- 9:37Speaker 9: the draft rooms and I've heard the conversations. A lot
- 9:39Speaker 9: of this is about football character, especially in this nil
- 9:43Speaker 9: transfer portal era that has made it even more difficult
- 9:47Speaker 9: to find out who really loves ball, and that conversation
- 9:51Speaker 9: is happening more than ever before inside every franchise. And
- 9:56Speaker 9: Casey's one of those guys that you know just loves
- 9:58Speaker 9: the game and is is going to put it all
- 10:01Speaker 9: out there and I think the exact type of guy
- 10:03Speaker 9: that a Mike Vrabel would love having in his locker room.
- 10:06Speaker 2: The other position I want to ask you about is
- 10:07Speaker 2: just the edge. It's a big need for the Patriots.
- 10:10Speaker 2: You know, obviously they have had some transition at that position.
- 10:13Speaker 2: There's some question of Harold Landry how healthy he's going
- 10:15Speaker 2: to be coming into this season. But it's a really
- 10:18Speaker 2: good class. Cash Is Howell a popular pick. Ore Mason
- 10:20Speaker 2: Thomas a guy that I really like, as well as
- 10:23Speaker 2: Gay Bachus. Three guys that seem to have that Mike Vrabel,
- 10:26Speaker 2: you know, kind of vibe of effort and finish. Just
- 10:29Speaker 2: what do you see from this edge class? And you
- 10:30Speaker 2: know what do you think they're thirty one? I find
- 10:33Speaker 2: myself feeling like they got to trade up maybe in
- 10:34Speaker 2: the second round to get one of these guys.
- 10:36Speaker 3: If perhaps they will go wide receiver first.
- 10:39Speaker 10: Yeah, if they go to me.
- 10:41Speaker 9: I think there's two things that can happen at thirty one,
- 10:43Speaker 9: And it's going to depend on how they stack the board,
- 10:46Speaker 9: and it's going to look at the edge class and.
- 10:48Speaker 10: The receiver class. The two classes that.
- 10:50Speaker 9: Luckily for Patriots fans, this is the two deepest positions
- 10:53Speaker 9: coming into this draft class. So it's nice when you
- 10:56Speaker 9: evaluate this that your positions of need line up with
- 11:00Speaker 9: the positions of depth coming out of this draft class.
- 11:03Speaker 9: So I think if you're at thirty one and Cashus
- 11:06Speaker 9: Howell's there, it's gonna be very hard to walk away
- 11:08Speaker 9: from that conversation. Even as much as you need a receiver,
- 11:12Speaker 9: I think you might wait on the receiver and you
- 11:14Speaker 9: go in the second round to get a guy maybe
- 11:17Speaker 9: like a Malachi Fields from Notre Dame somebody else who
- 11:19Speaker 9: we really like at the Draft network. So I think
- 11:22Speaker 9: the reality is you're looking at a couple of different
- 11:25Speaker 9: guys that could be there at thirty one. Are you
- 11:28Speaker 9: going to be enticed to maybe move some of those
- 11:30Speaker 9: later round picks right that you've got a bunch of
- 11:32Speaker 9: six round picks to package something together to be able
- 11:35Speaker 9: to be a little aggressive.
- 11:37Speaker 10: The team that I'm.
- 11:38Speaker 9: Most interested in is if we get past sixteen, right
- 11:41Speaker 9: and the Jets don't take Ty Simpson, which I do
- 11:44Speaker 9: not think that they're going to, I really do. I
- 11:46Speaker 9: think They're gonna be able to hold off now Woody
- 11:49Speaker 9: Johnson could throw a wrench in that plan, because at
- 11:51Speaker 9: any moment in time he can decide, Hey, I'm going
- 11:54Speaker 9: for it and I want to and I.
- 11:55Speaker 10: Want and I want a quarterback.
- 11:56Speaker 9: But if you get past sixteen, that back half of
- 11:59Speaker 9: the drafts to be all time conversations because there's gonna
- 12:03Speaker 9: be a lot of people calling to try and entice
- 12:06Speaker 9: the Jets, the Cardinals, some other teams that are quarterback
- 12:09Speaker 9: needy to come up. And I can see the I
- 12:11Speaker 9: can see the Patriots doing that at thirty one if
- 12:13Speaker 9: they're not in love with the guy at thirty one,
- 12:16Speaker 9: they're not in love, which at thirty one in the
- 12:19Speaker 9: first round, you gotta love a guy, you really, do
- 12:21Speaker 9: you still you gotta love a guy. If they don't
- 12:24Speaker 9: love somebody, they could move out and I wouldn't be surprised,
- 12:28Speaker 9: would not be surprised.
- 12:29Speaker 2: One other position I want to ask you about there
- 12:31Speaker 2: at thirty first overall is just tackle, and which you know,
- 12:34Speaker 2: seems like there's just a need for tackle across the league.
- 12:37Speaker 1: Really hard position to develop.
- 12:39Speaker 2: Is that a potential you know what, Blake Miller maybe
- 12:42Speaker 2: falling to that spot, someone like that, I mean, I
- 12:45Speaker 2: know Patriots are you know, say they're set with Will
- 12:47Speaker 2: Campbell on the left side, Morgan Moses, you know, continuing
- 12:50Speaker 2: to power through. I mean, he played every game last year,
- 12:52Speaker 2: but tackle is a long term need. Could you make
- 12:54Speaker 2: a case to take a tackle at thirty first?
- 12:57Speaker 3: Overall, I think.
- 12:58Speaker 9: Blake Miller or Maxie and a tourer there at thirty
- 13:01Speaker 9: one to be pretty difficult to walk away from either
- 13:04Speaker 9: of those guys. I will tell you, Max, I just
- 13:08Speaker 9: interviewed last week at ASU's pro day, a guy who
- 13:12Speaker 9: literally started playing football. He was a juco basketball player,
- 13:15Speaker 9: started playing football, picked up the most difficult position on
- 13:19Speaker 9: the football field and offensive line in my opinion, and
- 13:22Speaker 9: is so just entrenched in his love of the game
- 13:26Speaker 9: right now because it's still so fresh that I could
- 13:29Speaker 9: just see.
- 13:29Speaker 10: I mean, I was there.
- 13:30Speaker 9: I watched Mike Rabel and Max have this moment obviously
- 13:33Speaker 9: that everybody captured on camera of the two of them
- 13:36Speaker 9: going at it with hand placement, and I could tell
- 13:39Speaker 9: that Rabel had stars in his eyes when he walked away. Okay,
- 13:43Speaker 9: that's what happened. I watched it. I saw it up
- 13:45Speaker 9: close and personal, and I made a joke with him
- 13:47Speaker 9: because I was like, oh, you.
- 13:48Speaker 10: Are loving that right, like that was a great moment for.
- 13:51Speaker 9: Everybody, but he lost himself for a minute, like it
- 13:54Speaker 9: was like, oh yeah, I'm just playing football again. And
- 13:57Speaker 9: I talked to Max afterwards and he was like, that
- 13:59Speaker 9: was an unreal moment, and I was like, of course,
- 14:03Speaker 9: it was like it's a head coach who was just
- 14:05Speaker 9: coaching in the Super Bowl. That's taking you one on
- 14:08Speaker 9: one to teach you. But the thing about Max is
- 14:11Speaker 9: I had him down at the Senior ball watching him
- 14:13Speaker 9: in the one on ones, and every single D lineman.
- 14:16Speaker 9: I talked to Zion Young about this. I talked to
- 14:18Speaker 9: Chris mcclennan about this. I talked to Caleb Banks about this.
- 14:22Speaker 9: The toughest guy they faced, every single one of them
- 14:25Speaker 9: said Max theanateur And to me, and when you talk
- 14:27Speaker 9: about his position, versatility and how much he can do
- 14:32Speaker 9: the depth that you need to compete at the high
- 14:34Speaker 9: level at per offensive line, I would not be surprised
- 14:37Speaker 9: if they went with either either him or Blake Miller,
- 14:39Speaker 9: both really good guys who I think could provide a
- 14:42Speaker 9: lot of depth for any team in the NFL and
- 14:44Speaker 9: definitely deserving over first round pick. So if they don't,
- 14:47Speaker 9: I could see Vrabel going in that direction because there's
- 14:49Speaker 9: no such thing as overdrafting offensive lineman. You always need
- 14:53Speaker 9: you always need to protect your quarterback, especially your young guy.
- 14:57Speaker 10: And as much as.
- 14:57Speaker 9: Drake got hit last year, I would eye, I would say,
- 15:01Speaker 9: I'm not mad at all if you go in that direction.
- 15:04Speaker 3: Just one more for you, Page.
- 15:05Speaker 2: Is there a certain player or position group maybe in
- 15:08Speaker 2: this draft class you feel like you're particularly passionate about,
- 15:11Speaker 2: or maybe you feel like hasn't been talked about enough.
- 15:13Speaker 1: I mean, we touched on, you.
- 15:15Speaker 2: Know, maybe two of the three biggest position groups, but
- 15:17Speaker 2: what about for you? Is there something we're not talking
- 15:19Speaker 2: about enough for a player that maybe needs more mention.
- 15:22Speaker 9: Yeah, I think as much as I love Kenyan Sadig,
- 15:26Speaker 9: I also like a couple other tight ends in this class,
- 15:28Speaker 9: including Eli Stowers from Vanderbilt, who I don't think is
- 15:31Speaker 9: getting enough love, I'm I'm really excited about that tight
- 15:35Speaker 9: end group. I think maybe it's I'm a Chicago girl,
- 15:38Speaker 9: so maybe it's me coming off of watching Colston Lovelin
- 15:41Speaker 9: have a massive impact. But we're not talking about just
- 15:43Speaker 9: Colston Lovely. We're talking about Tyler Warren, Colston love and
- 15:46Speaker 9: Brock Bauers. The last few classes a very impactful tight ends,
- 15:50Speaker 9: especially for these young guys and quarterbacks turning the corner.
- 15:54Speaker 9: You know, we always joke about what's a quarterback's best friend.
- 15:57Speaker 10: A tight end.
- 15:58Speaker 9: A young quarterback having a really good tight end and
- 16:00Speaker 9: they could check the ball down to you. They can
- 16:02Speaker 9: they can count on to block and be a part
- 16:04Speaker 9: of the game. So to me, there's Kenny and Sadik
- 16:07Speaker 9: is when I say, a freak of nature, there is
- 16:11Speaker 9: no just like the fluidity, how athletic he is, how
- 16:15Speaker 9: how easy it is for him to do everything is unfair. Honestly,
- 16:20Speaker 9: as you watch him, you're like, we are not the same.
- 16:22Speaker 9: You're just athletically a different version of human Because we
- 16:25Speaker 9: are not.
- 16:26Speaker 10: I can't do what you do.
- 16:27Speaker 9: And watching him was just prepared for the combine was insane.
- 16:32Speaker 9: But I think this tight end class I have a
- 16:34Speaker 9: lot of love for in this corner class. Honestly, there's
- 16:36Speaker 9: a lot of the guys that I really like in
- 16:38Speaker 9: this corner class as well. A lot of good smack
- 16:41Speaker 9: Fowker's which is a prerequisite for me when you play
- 16:43Speaker 9: the position, and a lot of guys that I got
- 16:46Speaker 9: to see down at the Senior Bowl that I really
- 16:49Speaker 9: like doing real football stuff. So it's hard because this
- 16:52Speaker 9: time of the year you get to the Combine and
- 16:54Speaker 9: all that. It's a whole lot of stuff that actually
- 16:56Speaker 9: is in football. I like to go back to the tape.
- 16:58Speaker 9: I like to go back to Senior Bowl. They about
- 17:00Speaker 9: the actual football moments that mattered for each of these guys,
- 17:03Speaker 9: and if you look at those positions, I think there's
- 17:05Speaker 9: a lot of opportunity to draft some good players.
- 17:08Speaker 1: Great stuff.
- 17:09Speaker 2: Well, Paige Demaco's from the Draft Network, Thank you so much,
- 17:11Speaker 2: appreciate the time.
- 17:12Speaker 10: You're welcome. Thanks guys.
- 17:16Speaker 2: All right, it's time now for our final positional preview
- 17:19Speaker 2: here of the twenty twenty six draft season. We're talking
- 17:21Speaker 2: tight ends and running backs, two positions i'd say have
- 17:24Speaker 2: very different probably levels of need for the Patriots.
- 17:27Speaker 3: We should kick things off del Chris with the running.
- 17:29Speaker 8: Backs and something like that.
- 17:31Speaker 3: Did you set us up a little bit? We got
- 17:32Speaker 3: you know, Remandre Traveon Henderson.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Yeah, we got a full back too. What do you
- 17:36Speaker 1: think of that?
- 17:37Speaker 8: You got a couple full backs. You got Jack Westover,
- 17:39Speaker 8: you got.
- 17:39Speaker 3: Reggie Gilliam Westover, Maddenson.
- 17:43Speaker 1: In brock Lampy right.
- 17:44Speaker 8: Brock Lamby too, of course could come back. I mean Patriots.
- 17:47Speaker 11: I think the Patriots are stacked at fullback right now.
- 17:50Speaker 11: But the running back room, I mean you might want
- 17:53Speaker 11: to add a little bit of depth. I mean, you
- 17:55Speaker 11: got both guys. Uh, you know, you don't know what
- 17:58Speaker 11: direction you're gonna here with the draft. I mean could
- 18:02Speaker 11: be looking like more of a Day three sort of
- 18:05Speaker 11: area for the Patriots.
- 18:06Speaker 1: Mab a flyer.
- 18:07Speaker 8: Yeah, I'm gonna be a flyer.
- 18:09Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, right, crazy though, because I do kind of
- 18:12Speaker 2: have like a little bit of something I like with
- 18:14Speaker 2: the running backs right now, and I just kind of
- 18:15Speaker 2: like like the the five eight, two twenty pound, like
- 18:17Speaker 2: the bowling balls, Like I want some short yardage guys.
- 18:21Speaker 2: I think that's maybe a role that I could see
- 18:23Speaker 2: at the running back position. Maybe taking a guy like
- 18:25Speaker 2: all right, he's never going to be an every down
- 18:27Speaker 2: Belkow kind of a guy, but if we need one yard,
- 18:30Speaker 2: this compact little guy is.
- 18:31Speaker 3: Going to be able to get it for us. I'm
- 18:33Speaker 3: just talking specific types though.
- 18:34Speaker 4: Okay, all right, well.
- 18:35Speaker 5: I have one name in mind for you with that description.
- 18:38Speaker 5: But I have to say this first. This is the
- 18:40Speaker 5: worst running back class I've ever seen, And I'm saying
- 18:42Speaker 5: that as the in the nicest possible way. Uh But
- 18:46Speaker 5: I've been covering the draft since twenty seventeen. I have
- 18:49Speaker 5: not seen a running back class that as bad before.
- 18:52Speaker 5: Besides Jeremiah Love, this is a rough group, and especially
- 18:56Speaker 5: when you compare it to the group last year, which
- 18:58Speaker 5: was absolutely stacked at this position.
- 19:00Speaker 4: Like we're talking about a group last.
- 19:02Speaker 5: Year that had like Cam Scattaboos, like the ten or
- 19:04Speaker 5: eleventh best running back in the entire class. Cam Scataboo
- 19:07Speaker 5: might be the second best running back in this class.
- 19:10Speaker 5: You know, Love is an elite prospect. You know, he's
- 19:12Speaker 5: a blue chipper, maybe the best player in the draft.
- 19:14Speaker 5: But after that it gets rough. And you know, his
- 19:17Speaker 5: teammate from Notre Dame is not bad, and Mike Washington
- 19:20Speaker 5: Markansas is okay. But then you start to kind of,
- 19:23Speaker 5: you know, get into some dreads, some dark times with
- 19:28Speaker 5: this running back class. You guys know how much I
- 19:31Speaker 5: love the draft. I slocked through this group of running backs.
- 19:34Speaker 5: I couldn't do it. It was that bad. That being said,
- 19:38Speaker 5: there are a couple of guys, you know, I think
- 19:40Speaker 5: specifically you're looking for a third running back that maybe
- 19:43Speaker 5: has a skill set to either do deuce his thing
- 19:45Speaker 5: like short yardage or catch some passes out of the backfield.
- 19:48Speaker 5: And I think a big thing too for the Patriots
- 19:50Speaker 5: is going to be kickoff return ability because as a
- 19:53Speaker 5: third running back, whether it was Terrell Jennings or Dearnest
- 19:56Speaker 5: Johnson or whoever, Antonio Gibson third running back was a
- 20:01Speaker 5: primary kickoff returner for this team last year. So that
- 20:04Speaker 5: spot's gonna be involved in returning kicks. So you know,
- 20:08Speaker 5: Diamont Claybourne, Adam Randall, you know, players like that that
- 20:11Speaker 5: can do that, I think are gonna have some value
- 20:14Speaker 5: to the Patriots. But if there's some guys that you
- 20:16Speaker 5: guys like, I'm not saying don't like them. I was
- 20:18Speaker 5: telling you that this is not.
- 20:18Speaker 8: A good great But me, let's talk a little.
- 20:20Speaker 2: Bit about Jeremiah Loved who's just at the top because
- 20:22Speaker 2: I mean he ran with a four to three six think.
- 20:25Speaker 2: I mean, he's just an absolute beast. He's gonna come
- 20:28Speaker 2: in and change a team. I know I've seen you
- 20:30Speaker 2: know less so with the Kansas City thing lately in
- 20:32Speaker 2: the mock draft, but you know, some team's gonna he's
- 20:34Speaker 2: one of those backs it's worth a first round pick,
- 20:36Speaker 2: and then what are we going to the third round
- 20:38Speaker 2: before the next guy gets picked?
- 20:39Speaker 8: Maybe?
- 20:39Speaker 5: Yeah, I think you know, his teammate there at Notre
- 20:42Speaker 5: Dame and Mike Washington, I think probably have a chance
- 20:44Speaker 5: to go top seventy five, top hundred. But you know,
- 20:47Speaker 5: it's it's slim pickens. You know, after Jeremiah Love, he's uh,
- 20:51Speaker 5: he's a great player. And you know, we've had some
- 20:54Speaker 5: great running backs the last handful of years, and you
- 20:57Speaker 5: know Ashton gent and Bijon and then Jamiir Gibbs and
- 21:01Speaker 5: you know, players of that caliber. And I think that
- 21:04Speaker 5: he's right in that category with like you know, Saquon,
- 21:07Speaker 5: Bijon genty, true blue chip elite prospects. You know, the
- 21:12Speaker 5: running back value. We did this with gent last year.
- 21:15Speaker 5: Where does that fall? Genti ended up going six to
- 21:18Speaker 5: the Raiders, So you know, maybe that's where his ceiling is.
- 21:22Speaker 5: I think the Titans have to link long and hard
- 21:24Speaker 5: about it too, where they're picking those So they're four,
- 21:27Speaker 5: right if I'm mistaken, So maybe maybe.
- 21:30Speaker 2: Tennessee we find seven. Go ahead, t he's who you got,
- 21:38Speaker 2: all right?
- 21:38Speaker 7: I got I got three three guys just because Obviously
- 21:41Speaker 7: running back is not the biggest need for us, so
- 21:42Speaker 7: I'm just looking at something different. So I had Mike
- 21:46Speaker 7: Washington really just swing passes, don't let him get outside.
- 21:49Speaker 7: A guy that you might like is Leveon Moss just
- 21:52Speaker 7: he can block short yards. But the one that sticks
- 21:54Speaker 7: out to me is Eli Heid and Rich is that
- 21:56Speaker 7: pronouncing that right? Reich's he's the Navy guy, but he's
- 22:00Speaker 7: he's a bit of everything, jack of all trades. Can
- 22:01Speaker 7: play slot, running back, probably a little tight end. He
- 22:04Speaker 7: tied the school record for receiving touchdowns, which isn't a
- 22:06Speaker 7: big deal at Navy. And yeah, career rushing yards like
- 22:10Speaker 7: almost two thousand, so or yeah, receiving yards.
- 22:13Speaker 2: Maybe a slot receiver though, I think that yeah, he's
- 22:16Speaker 2: if not only just because of the Navy thing, but
- 22:19Speaker 2: just also the role that he projects to play.
- 22:21Speaker 4: If Bill Belichick was still here.
- 22:23Speaker 5: This would be every single mock draft in under the
- 22:25Speaker 5: sun for the Patriots.
- 22:26Speaker 4: What have you like?
- 22:27Speaker 1: And he's just a damn football player.
- 22:30Speaker 4: He really smooth.
- 22:31Speaker 5: Route runner out of the backfield, I think is what
- 22:33Speaker 5: stands out the most with him. I think he's a
- 22:35Speaker 5: pass catching back, but he does play a little bit
- 22:37Speaker 5: of receiver as well. You know, I think there's some
- 22:41Speaker 5: lazy patriots of old comps there, like a Rex Burkhead
- 22:44Speaker 5: or something like that, but that type of player. But
- 22:47Speaker 5: like I said, you know, if Josh McDaniel still wants
- 22:50Speaker 5: to use a running back in that capacity, like Bill
- 22:52Speaker 5: Belichick did, you know for twenty plus years here, we
- 22:56Speaker 5: would just be spamming the Navy running back if he
- 22:59Speaker 5: was still here.
- 23:00Speaker 7: That being said, though, like you've mentioned, this isn't a
- 23:02Speaker 7: great running back class, but at least that's the one
- 23:03Speaker 7: position you can pick some dude up off the street.
- 23:06Speaker 7: So there's some free agency options out there too.
- 23:08Speaker 11: Yeah, a couple of guys I like you to kind
- 23:10Speaker 11: of pig back off a tease. Darian Price. We talked
- 23:12Speaker 11: about him behind Jeremiah Love. I mean, he wasn't Jeremiah
- 23:16Speaker 11: Love for Notre Dame. But he's he's a stud running back.
- 23:19Speaker 11: In my opinion, I think he's a solid playmaker. He's
- 23:22Speaker 11: more of your ground and pound guy, kind of used
- 23:24Speaker 11: his strength.
- 23:25Speaker 8: Disability, but also has the.
- 23:29Speaker 11: Speed and the ability to kind of break free and
- 23:32Speaker 11: get himself downfield. Really well, you see him a lot
- 23:35Speaker 11: of breakout place from him this past season and Jonah
- 23:37Speaker 11: Coleman from Washington also another.
- 23:39Speaker 4: Guy that deuces guy.
- 23:44Speaker 11: It's about your man not afraid to find the end zone,
- 23:46Speaker 11: that's for sure. I saw something. He scored thirty five
- 23:50Speaker 11: touchdowns in fifty games playing in college football.
- 23:53Speaker 3: Afraid of the He'll go right into it and score.
- 23:56Speaker 5: No.
- 23:57Speaker 11: But big playability lot like Jendarium Price, Like big playability guy,
- 24:03Speaker 11: like something that you know can provide a little bit
- 24:05Speaker 11: of a spark.
- 24:06Speaker 1: I's really like, I like Colin Colemson going I.
- 24:08Speaker 2: The only one I had was k Tron Allen, which
- 24:09Speaker 2: is similar at Condy and maybe a little bit bigger,
- 24:11Speaker 2: but you know, pile mover those kind of guys. That
- 24:13Speaker 2: was kind of the traits I was looking for. But
- 24:15Speaker 2: I feel like I have a block on running backs
- 24:17Speaker 2: like I just every year. And it's not even specific
- 24:19Speaker 2: to this being a bad class. It's just no, that's
- 24:21Speaker 2: like the one position.
- 24:22Speaker 3: Every time I watched it, I'm like, I don't know,
- 24:23Speaker 3: he looked.
- 24:24Speaker 2: You know, It's like you can tell a bigger small
- 24:25Speaker 2: they are, and how quick they are, but otherwise it's
- 24:27Speaker 2: like is it going to translate? You kind of have
- 24:29Speaker 2: to get here, but give us anybody you want to
- 24:30Speaker 2: take us home on there.
- 24:31Speaker 5: Yeah, So I think the two guys that you know
- 24:34Speaker 5: they've showed some interest in, or Adam Randall from Clemson,
- 24:37Speaker 5: who is cord Aero Patterson two point zero, Like he's
- 24:39Speaker 5: just a six foot three, two thirty converted receiver, played
- 24:44Speaker 5: receiver early on in his career at Clemson, had to
- 24:46Speaker 5: move to running back because he doesn't really have the
- 24:48Speaker 5: ball skills to play receiver, so he was, you know,
- 24:52Speaker 5: kind of I think I don't really have to say
- 24:55Speaker 5: much more than Quardial Patterson.
- 24:56Speaker 4: Like it's literally the same player.
- 24:57Speaker 5: It looks very similar SI two thirty with a four
- 25:01Speaker 5: or five great straight line speed. He can throw them
- 25:04Speaker 5: a little swing passes and you know, screens and things
- 25:07Speaker 5: like that out of the backfield, getting going in space.
- 25:10Speaker 5: I really like it when they threw him some like
- 25:12Speaker 5: little downfield kind of swing screen passes where they sort
- 25:16Speaker 5: of allowed him to get some momentum into the line
- 25:18Speaker 5: of scrimmage and run with the football. And then when
- 25:21Speaker 5: you see that, you know he had some kickoff returns
- 25:23Speaker 5: I think maybe a dozen in college, but when you
- 25:25Speaker 5: saw him get out on the perimeter on some of
- 25:27Speaker 5: those swing passes and flares, and things like that and
- 25:30Speaker 5: get you know vertical. You're like, okay, there's the kickoff,
- 25:33Speaker 5: you know, straight line speed that he could bring to
- 25:35Speaker 5: the table. Kaylin Black from Indiana is the other one
- 25:38Speaker 5: that they've showed some interest in. He's you know, just
- 25:41Speaker 5: your classic get what's blocked back Like, He's not gonna
- 25:44Speaker 5: color outside the lines very much. He's very efficient. He's
- 25:48Speaker 5: not very dynamic or creative or elusive or any of
- 25:51Speaker 5: like the flashy stuff. But he's just gonna kind of
- 25:55Speaker 5: get the job done, push the pile at the end.
- 25:57Speaker 5: They're looking for that true just sort of a third
- 26:00Speaker 5: running back. You know, I always use Ben Jarvis green
- 26:03Speaker 5: ellis right, Like.
- 26:04Speaker 4: If you're looking for that kind of guy, then Black.
- 26:07Speaker 5: Is probably the one. If you're looking for a little
- 26:08Speaker 5: bit more pizzads, then that would probably be Randall. If
- 26:11Speaker 5: you're Josh McDaniels, you know, McDaniels had Patterson, and I
- 26:15Speaker 5: would just think that he would have some fun with
- 26:17Speaker 5: a guy like Adam.
- 26:18Speaker 4: Randall is kind of an offensive weapon.
- 26:20Speaker 8: Yeah, honorable mention Sulton.
- 26:22Speaker 11: Yeah, I just think his brute strength and his ability
- 26:27Speaker 11: to move with that type of strength is very impressive.
- 26:29Speaker 8: And I mean I think you broke sake one squat record, right, yeah.
- 26:34Speaker 2: He's that that moves my needle right there here. Good
- 26:40Speaker 2: for you, but good pulls. You know, we'll see and
- 26:43Speaker 2: those guys that haven't mentioned. I'm looking here at the
- 26:44Speaker 2: Beast Power, you know, the the rankings, and those are
- 26:47Speaker 2: all you know, Day three kind of guys. So that's
- 26:49Speaker 2: it makes sense. Patriots got a bunch of picks there.
- 26:52Speaker 2: Let's flip over to tight end though, and this is
- 26:53Speaker 2: a position that we've been talking about all spring long.
- 26:56Speaker 2: The Patriots and Brable have been talking about this position.
- 26:59Speaker 2: Uh know, they did go out and make a signing,
- 27:02Speaker 2: you know with blanket on Julian Hill, thank you. Uh
- 27:06Speaker 2: you know, more of maybe more of a blocker, and
- 27:08Speaker 2: so you got a balance hunter Henry getting up there
- 27:10Speaker 2: a little bit though. You'd love to have some long
- 27:12Speaker 2: term stability there. Brabel talked about this spring like you know,
- 27:15Speaker 2: you always see these mid round guys popping up.
- 27:17Speaker 1: You got multiple tight end sets.
- 27:19Speaker 2: I mean last year look what the Rams did with
- 27:21Speaker 2: you know, three tight ends, four tight ends. I think
- 27:24Speaker 2: feel like it feels to me like Rabel kind of
- 27:26Speaker 2: wants to get to that point. And I know we
- 27:28Speaker 2: all have our favorites, and I mean, let's just start
- 27:29Speaker 2: real quick with Sadik and I think he's the guy
- 27:31Speaker 2: that stands above everybody else. And the conversations we've all
- 27:34Speaker 2: had is that it's easy to see a guy like
- 27:36Speaker 2: that fitting into the offense.
- 27:37Speaker 1: He's probably not coming to New England, but if you
- 27:39Speaker 1: can find a.
- 27:40Speaker 2: Real move kind of a guy who's got all the
- 27:43Speaker 2: you know, all of the measurables, the build, I mean everything.
- 27:46Speaker 2: Talk about players that Josh Josh McDaniels could have some
- 27:49Speaker 2: fun with. Sure, seems like Kenyon sidek wuld be warm.
- 27:51Speaker 7: Yeah, but all right, I just feel like this is
- 27:54Speaker 7: one of the few players we talked about Peu that
- 27:55Speaker 7: I would trade up for. He's a player where like
- 27:59Speaker 7: Hunter Henry he's still got He's thirty one, but you drafted,
- 28:02Speaker 7: you don't need to worry about tight end for the
- 28:03Speaker 7: next seven years probably, And he's I think he's plug
- 28:06Speaker 7: and play freak athlete, Like it'll be awesome, but I
- 28:09Speaker 7: just don't think it's gonna happen.
- 28:10Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah, No, He's definitely near the top of
- 28:13Speaker 5: my list, you know, my wish list for the Patriots,
- 28:16Speaker 5: just remembering watching you know, Oregon's offense in his like
- 28:21Speaker 5: underclassman seasons and being like, who the heck is this
- 28:23Speaker 5: tight end that keeps on just you know, making plays
- 28:26Speaker 5: all over the field. And now it's time for him
- 28:28Speaker 5: to go in the draft himself. And I think the
- 28:31Speaker 5: only thing that you look at with him that might
- 28:34Speaker 5: hold some teams back is his size. You know, he's
- 28:36Speaker 5: only six three, two and forty pounds, so he's not
- 28:39Speaker 5: Tyler Warren like, He's not one of these like six
- 28:41Speaker 5: six Rob Gronkowski to fifty five type of tight ends.
- 28:45Speaker 5: He is a little bit smaller. You know, he's probably
- 28:48Speaker 5: more of like a Johnny Smith, Harold Fan and junior
- 28:51Speaker 5: model of a tight end. But you know, the straight
- 28:54Speaker 5: line speed is rare at Dad's size. You know, the
- 28:58Speaker 5: ability to get down the field and stretch the teams
- 29:00Speaker 5: and wheel routes you know, out of the backfield, you know,
- 29:03Speaker 5: off the wing. You know, those types of things are
- 29:06Speaker 5: are not normal at two hundred and forty five pounds,
- 29:09Speaker 5: He's got some separation quickness. I think he can block
- 29:12Speaker 5: a little bit better than some of the scouting reports
- 29:15Speaker 5: you read about suggest. You know, when I first started
- 29:17Speaker 5: getting into his film, there are some concerns because of
- 29:19Speaker 5: his frame about his blocking, but I think he's a
- 29:21Speaker 5: pretty solid blocker as well. But you know, he won't
- 29:25Speaker 5: be the prototype for everybody. You know, he's a little
- 29:28Speaker 5: bit undersized, but that I don't really care, to be honest,
- 29:33Speaker 5: and he during the film on he's he's really good.
- 29:36Speaker 2: Let me just pause things for a second here, just
- 29:38Speaker 2: how do you guys feel generally about balancing the blocking
- 29:41Speaker 2: and the receiving, because there's a lot of really good
- 29:42Speaker 2: receiving tight.
- 29:43Speaker 1: Ends and this is the game now.
- 29:45Speaker 2: I mean, you need offense like and it's great, Yes,
- 29:47Speaker 2: you need guys who can block too, But at the
- 29:49Speaker 2: same time, I find myself going more and more towards
- 29:52Speaker 2: a guy like Max Clair, and I really liked him.
- 29:54Speaker 2: I feel like we spend all our time of talking
- 29:56Speaker 2: about delpin Rauch.
- 29:57Speaker 1: There, you know, kind of the guys.
- 29:59Speaker 2: And when I've I first watched all these guys like
- 30:01Speaker 2: Claire really stood out to me and you know, not
- 30:03Speaker 2: exactly like Travis Kelcey, but just he's not really he's slight,
- 30:07Speaker 2: he's not thick, but he just moves like a really
- 30:10Speaker 2: good athlete. And that to me is when I'm looking
- 30:12Speaker 2: trying to give Drake May outlets and trying to give
- 30:15Speaker 2: him guys that can, you know, do different things that
- 30:17Speaker 2: Josh can play with. I look at a guy like
- 30:19Speaker 2: Max Claaren and you know Oscar Dell probably in that
- 30:21Speaker 2: same kind of mold of you know, maybe didn't have
- 30:23Speaker 2: the crazy production, maybe they were.
- 30:25Speaker 3: Limited because of the guys around them or the scheme
- 30:27Speaker 3: or whatever.
- 30:28Speaker 2: But I see both those guys as just having huge
- 30:30Speaker 2: potential and the potential to come in and play right
- 30:33Speaker 2: away and be a real weapon for Drake May.
- 30:36Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it's the question about the blocking.
- 30:39Speaker 5: And I probably harp more on the blocking than most
- 30:41Speaker 5: people because I think about it from a defense's perspective,
- 30:45Speaker 5: and we start getting into like personnel matching of you know,
- 30:48Speaker 5: if you're in twelve personnel, you know, two tight end sets,
- 30:52Speaker 5: but your tight ends can't block, then like I have
- 30:55Speaker 5: no reason to put base defense on the field against you.
- 30:57Speaker 5: So now those matchups that you're trying to in the
- 31:00Speaker 5: middle of the field against linebackers and safeties, they're not
- 31:03Speaker 5: going to exist as much as they would if you
- 31:05Speaker 5: have to put another linebacker on the field and take
- 31:07Speaker 5: the nickel corner off. Now you're getting tight ends matched
- 31:10Speaker 5: up against guys that they can win foot races against
- 31:13Speaker 5: more consistently. So when you look at that sort of thing,
- 31:16Speaker 5: like when you look at a guy like an Eli
- 31:18Speaker 5: Stoweres for example, I think Max Claire can block like
- 31:21Speaker 5: a tiny little bit. You know, he's probably out of
- 31:23Speaker 5: this group, the one that reminds me the most of
- 31:25Speaker 5: Hunter Henry.
- 31:26Speaker 4: You know, in terms of.
- 31:27Speaker 5: Del Broush Stower's Claire, I'd say Claire plays the most
- 31:31Speaker 5: like Hunter Henry, who isn't a big time blocker but
- 31:34Speaker 5: can hold his own and isn't a total you know,
- 31:36Speaker 5: non factor as a blocker as well. I would say that,
- 31:41Speaker 5: you know, when you get to those Stowers types or
- 31:44Speaker 5: like the Trigs on day three, I'm treating those guys
- 31:47Speaker 5: like receivers if I'm a coach, And so at that
- 31:50Speaker 5: point you're not getting the matchups, you're not getting the
- 31:53Speaker 5: looks that you want. Basically, you want to be able
- 31:56Speaker 5: to either run the football out of twelve personnel against
- 31:58Speaker 5: lighter groupings and over or you know, run them over,
- 32:01Speaker 5: or you want to make them react and put base
- 32:03Speaker 5: defense on the field and now you can throw it
- 32:05Speaker 5: over them. And if you can't get them to react
- 32:07Speaker 5: to your personnel like that, that's when you start to
- 32:10Speaker 5: get into trouble. And I think that looking across the league,
- 32:13Speaker 5: you know, the example I always go to is the
- 32:15Speaker 5: Buffalo Bills. Dalton Kinkaid is a great player, Like he
- 32:18Speaker 5: can play, he's a matchup nightmare, but he can't block.
- 32:21Speaker 5: So why do they have Dawson Knox and Jackson Hawes
- 32:24Speaker 5: on their roster Because they need somebody that can block
- 32:26Speaker 5: in line to play Dawson Dalton Kinkaid. So in a
- 32:30Speaker 5: lot of ways, if you ask me, like Dawson Knox
- 32:32Speaker 5: is a more valuable player to them than Dalton Kinkaid
- 32:35Speaker 5: because he can play at all situations. He can put
- 32:37Speaker 5: his hand in the dirt and block. So they drafted
- 32:41Speaker 5: Kinkaid in the first round and then paid Dawson Knox
- 32:44Speaker 5: and then drafted Jackson Hawes because they were like, oh crap,
- 32:47Speaker 5: this guy can't do anything for us in the run game. So,
- 32:50Speaker 5: as a long winded answer, but I think that the
- 32:52Speaker 5: main crux of it is the players like Dalton Kinkaid
- 32:56Speaker 5: have become pass game players. You know, those guys are
- 32:58Speaker 5: going to play on third down, gonna play situations. They're
- 33:01Speaker 5: not going to play every single down, and I don't
- 33:04Speaker 5: know how much value that has to certain teams. And
- 33:07Speaker 5: I think Mike Rabel might like a guy that can
- 33:09Speaker 5: play in all situations.
- 33:10Speaker 1: You got Jillian Hills, so maybe you can have.
- 33:12Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean you mentioned Tray earlier.
- 33:15Speaker 11: I really like Michael Trag and like his his wingspan
- 33:19Speaker 11: and catch radius, Like you don't really see guys like that,
- 33:21Speaker 11: I feel like, and somebody that has hands like him
- 33:24Speaker 11: and can kind of see you downfield and be an
- 33:27Speaker 11: actual target and a weapon. Like I think that's such
- 33:30Speaker 11: a key part in offenses today. And I think we're
- 33:33Speaker 11: talking about these different guys and can help in the
- 33:35Speaker 11: run game and all that, But I feel like there's
- 33:37Speaker 11: a lot of value in today's offense where if you
- 33:39Speaker 11: have a tight end that can get downfield and be
- 33:41Speaker 11: an actual weapon and threat to defenses, you free up
- 33:45Speaker 11: your other wide receivers like Keyshaun Bood. You give them
- 33:48Speaker 11: more looks or like people like that who can actually
- 33:51Speaker 11: step up and make more plays because people are worried
- 33:54Speaker 11: about that tight end.
- 33:54Speaker 7: Yeah, got he took Trag from me, but also that
- 33:58Speaker 7: Noah Kowski Riley from the end. I'm probably not saying
- 34:01Speaker 7: this last name right, But you know, I always like
- 34:02Speaker 7: to take somebody from a championship team. But you know,
- 34:05Speaker 7: similar to the running backs like Hunter, Henry can still
- 34:07Speaker 7: play like he's thirty one. So trying to look at
- 34:10Speaker 7: something that if you don't get Sadique, something that we
- 34:12Speaker 7: don't have, which is a bit more blocking. So I
- 34:15Speaker 7: had him. I also had Dinkins, just freak athlete. He's
- 34:19Speaker 7: uh Khalil Dinkins from State YEA.
- 34:21Speaker 2: So two or two other ones. I just I mean we've,
- 34:24Speaker 2: like I said, we've been talking about Sam Rousch. I
- 34:25Speaker 2: feel like and he's he's a big bore guy for me.
- 34:27Speaker 2: I mean, he's a great blocker, but I him and
- 34:30Speaker 2: Joe Royer were two guys.
- 34:31Speaker 1: Who kind of tough guys. Tough guys. Roy a little tight.
- 34:34Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know if he's ever going to
- 34:35Speaker 2: be much of a receiving threat. But you know that's
- 34:39Speaker 2: to Evan's point. You know, if you're trying to find
- 34:40Speaker 2: a blocker like that, to me, it's not sexy. But
- 34:45Speaker 2: you get a guy like Rausch in the building and
- 34:47Speaker 2: you've got that like blocking te two for as long
- 34:50Speaker 2: as you want him, and those pieces are valuable. I
- 34:52Speaker 2: just it's it seems like by the time that I
- 34:54Speaker 2: get to the mock drafts and I get to that point,
- 34:55Speaker 2: I'm always kind of picking because of how these mock
- 34:58Speaker 2: drafts are laid out, like and here's Sam Rouche and
- 34:59Speaker 2: they a tight end. So I got, you know, I
- 35:02Speaker 2: just I wonder if they're going to go off the
- 35:03Speaker 2: beaten path and be like draft two guys on day
- 35:06Speaker 2: three that they love that we're a little you know
- 35:09Speaker 2: that we might not even mention today. I don't know
- 35:11Speaker 2: how they'll approach it, but it's a really interesting.
- 35:13Speaker 7: Point where do you think the tight end selection happens.
- 35:15Speaker 5: So I really think the third and fourth round is
- 35:18Speaker 5: a sweet spot for that position because I think Sadik
- 35:21Speaker 5: is obviously in a tier of his zone. I don't
- 35:24Speaker 5: know if there's another guy that I would take between
- 35:27Speaker 5: one and ninety five at that point, you know, first
- 35:29Speaker 5: round in ninety five, because I'm not a big starers guy,
- 35:32Speaker 5: as I just wax poetic about how I hate guys
- 35:35Speaker 5: that can't block, so just go put your little slot
- 35:37Speaker 5: receivers over there, and then you know, I think Del
- 35:42Speaker 5: is exciting, but he only had twenty catches last year,
- 35:45Speaker 5: and he only had seventy over the course of his
- 35:47Speaker 5: career at Georgia, and some of that was injury related,
- 35:49Speaker 5: some of that was role related.
- 35:51Speaker 4: You know, that is a projection.
- 35:53Speaker 5: You are taking his athleticism and his frame and his
- 35:56Speaker 5: athletic profile and saying that this guy is to have
- 36:00Speaker 5: a higher volume role in the NFL. So you're kind
- 36:03Speaker 5: of you're projecting, you're kind of hoping a little bit there.
- 36:07Speaker 4: Raush, I really really like.
- 36:08Speaker 5: But I do think the arm length and the radius
- 36:10Speaker 5: do show up on film at times, you know, with
- 36:13Speaker 5: his blocking and sustaining skills as a blocker, as catch
- 36:16Speaker 5: radius as a pass catcher, with those short arms and
- 36:19Speaker 5: that short wingspan, I think it does flash at times.
- 36:22Speaker 5: I don't think he's going to be a big time
- 36:24Speaker 5: red zone guy because he's not going to be able
- 36:26Speaker 5: to go up and get the ball as consistently as
- 36:29Speaker 5: some other guys. So to me that those guys, I
- 36:32Speaker 5: think they're third rounders. Like I think it's we get
- 36:35Speaker 5: really excited about these people, these players, and people start
- 36:38Speaker 5: to push him up boards and you guys mentioned Trig,
- 36:41Speaker 5: you know him and Justin Jolly were considered top one
- 36:44Speaker 5: hundred guys when I started the process back in February,
- 36:47Speaker 5: and now all of a sudden they have trickled down
- 36:49Speaker 5: to like the fourth or fifth round. You know, Trig
- 36:51Speaker 5: has a lot to do with his personality and character concerns.
- 36:54Speaker 5: You know, teams have concerns about his work, ethic, just
- 36:58Speaker 5: his overall vibe in his character, has some you know things.
- 37:01Speaker 4: In his past.
- 37:03Speaker 5: Yeah, not not exactly like a clean evaluation justin Jolly
- 37:09Speaker 5: is just you know, a little small, little stiff. You know,
- 37:12Speaker 5: he's kind of like Day three Kenyon Sadiq, and so
- 37:15Speaker 5: I don't know how teams feel exactly about him. You know,
- 37:19Speaker 5: Eli raared In another guy that maybe have some concerns
- 37:22Speaker 5: too about you know, effort and physicality and all that
- 37:25Speaker 5: kind of kind of stuff. Injuries, So you know, those
- 37:29Speaker 5: are guys that when I started this whole thing, were,
- 37:32Speaker 5: you know, either in the top one hundred on the
- 37:34Speaker 5: consensus board or like fringe top one hundred. Guys that
- 37:37Speaker 5: are maybe getting knocked down a little bit now for Delp,
- 37:40Speaker 5: for Raush, for Claire, I'd say maybe a little bit
- 37:44Speaker 5: for Jack Injuries from Texas.
- 37:45Speaker 4: So Injuries is a guy that I really like.
- 37:47Speaker 5: In the fourth round, you know, if they're not able
- 37:49Speaker 5: to get Delp or Raush at ninety five, like Injuries
- 37:53Speaker 5: at one twenty five or one thirty one, I think
- 37:55Speaker 5: makes a lot of sense. Kind of similar to Claire
- 37:57Speaker 5: in a lot of ways. I would say, like I
- 37:59Speaker 5: could probably use Hunter Henry as a pro comparison for
- 38:02Speaker 5: both of those players. You know, good receivers, decent speed,
- 38:07Speaker 5: good knack for the position, and getting open as a
- 38:09Speaker 5: pass catcher, you know that sort of thing, and then
- 38:12Speaker 5: we can get into the sleepers. You know, then we
- 38:14Speaker 5: get into the real deep cuts on day three. But
- 38:16Speaker 5: that's sort of the cluster. I think that's sort of
- 38:18Speaker 5: the stack is It starts with Delp.
- 38:20Speaker 4: Raush, Claire.
- 38:22Speaker 5: Then you get into you know, the injuries and those
- 38:25Speaker 5: guys and Trig and Jolly and.
- 38:27Speaker 4: Yeah, then we're out the fourth round.
- 38:28Speaker 1: I mean, just looking how the Beast stacks him up.
- 38:30Speaker 2: I mean, he's only got four guys to cut off
- 38:32Speaker 2: at Delp in between him and Jolly of that's the
- 38:36Speaker 2: only first day two guys that you know, Yeah, the restaurant.
- 38:40Speaker 5: I think if you're looking at to draft somebody at
- 38:42Speaker 5: sixty three, it all depends on how you feel about
- 38:44Speaker 5: Eli Stowers. If you're convinced that Eli Stowers is going
- 38:47Speaker 5: to be such a mismatch weapon for you in the
- 38:50Speaker 5: passing game that it's not going to matter. And look,
- 38:52Speaker 5: I watched his tape against Alabama and they threw him
- 38:55Speaker 5: a shovel pass a little like RPO shovel where they
- 38:58Speaker 5: threw him the ball on a shovel pass and he
- 39:00Speaker 5: took it like forty yards, you know, just like sneaking
- 39:02Speaker 5: through the defense like a running back. You know, he's
- 39:04Speaker 5: got rare movement skills. He just can't block for a lick,
- 39:08Speaker 5: Like he's just not going to do any of that. So,
- 39:10Speaker 5: like you know, I kind of compared him to like
- 39:12Speaker 5: a Get SICKI or Ronda Gads and someone like that.
- 39:15Speaker 4: That's really a wide receiver.
- 39:17Speaker 5: So if you really like that, and they, you know,
- 39:19Speaker 5: decide that they really like a guy like Stores, then
- 39:22Speaker 5: he's in play. At sixty three, I think it's a
- 39:24Speaker 5: little early for delper Roush at sixty three.
- 39:27Speaker 11: Yeah, I mean, you keep talking about Stores. I am
- 39:30Speaker 11: a guy I really like Stores. I do think there's
- 39:32Speaker 11: a lot to like about his ability to work downfield.
- 39:35Speaker 11: And again, like you said, it is just turning small
- 39:39Speaker 11: plays into big games, Like he does it really well.
- 39:43Speaker 11: And I think that's a big thing and the Patriots.
- 39:45Speaker 11: I'm gonna make this point because it's just kind of
- 39:47Speaker 11: been bugging me for the last five minutes. But man,
- 39:51Speaker 11: Julian Hill is you're supposed to be after that signing,
- 39:55Speaker 11: you're like run blocking tight end and then you have
- 39:58Speaker 11: the Hunter Henry. You can kind of do both good
- 40:00Speaker 11: in the passing game, good in the running game, kind
- 40:02Speaker 11: of trust them with either thing. I feel like a
- 40:04Speaker 11: lot of teams, I mean, you mentioned the Bill is
- 40:06Speaker 11: a great example kind of have that three tier system
- 40:09Speaker 11: for tight ends, and I feel like there is value
- 40:12Speaker 11: having somebody who is more of a receiver than a blocker,
- 40:15Speaker 11: because you can get better as a blocker when you're
- 40:18Speaker 11: receiving tight end, like just so you can get better
- 40:21Speaker 11: as a receiver as a blocking tend.
- 40:22Speaker 8: Like there's ways to work on things. And that's why I.
- 40:24Speaker 11: Feel very highly of Stowers and I feel like there's
- 40:27Speaker 11: a lot of value there.
- 40:28Speaker 2: But if there's a spot form you know, there's a
- 40:30Speaker 2: spot that you can see him come in and contribute,
- 40:32Speaker 2: whereas you know wide receiver, especially later in the draft,
- 40:35Speaker 2: like it's hard to see their route to the field,
- 40:37Speaker 2: you can see it with with a move tight end.
- 40:39Speaker 4: Absolutely, and I think that you know the role for him.
- 40:42Speaker 5: And if they feel really strongly about Julian Hill, which
- 40:45Speaker 5: is what I think they do after they gave him
- 40:47Speaker 5: a three year contract, you know, can he be Jackson
- 40:49Speaker 5: Hawes to Dalton Kincaid right and do that sort of thing,
- 40:52Speaker 5: and maybe Julian Hill is really your in line option.
- 40:55Speaker 5: And like I said, situationally, you know two minutes, you
- 41:00Speaker 5: know those types of situations, eleven personnel packages on third down,
- 41:06Speaker 5: you know Stowers is going to come in and he's
- 41:07Speaker 5: basically just another receiver that you can play games with.
- 41:10Speaker 5: And there's definitely value in that. I mean, his receiving
- 41:13Speaker 5: skills are very, very good, and I could see that.
- 41:16Speaker 5: I just I get weary of you know that, is
- 41:20Speaker 5: you're drafting that at sixty three for him to play?
- 41:24Speaker 5: How what percentage of the snaps realistically is he going
- 41:28Speaker 5: to play? And are you going to use one of
- 41:30Speaker 5: your first two picks and a top seventy five pick
- 41:33Speaker 5: on a guy that's only going to play on third down?
- 41:35Speaker 4: And is that really worth it?
- 41:37Speaker 5: Now if you get down to ninety five and that
- 41:39Speaker 5: player is still available, that's a different story.
- 41:41Speaker 4: But I have to imagine.
- 41:43Speaker 5: I'm not in the Buffalo Bill's front office, nor am
- 41:46Speaker 5: I in the Patriots front office, but I'd.
- 41:47Speaker 4: Have to imagine if you gave the Bills some.
- 41:49Speaker 5: Truth serum about Dalton Kinkaid, they kind of regret it,
- 41:52Speaker 5: right because, like you know, injuries is certainly a big
- 41:55Speaker 5: part of it too. But you know, he just doesn't
- 41:57Speaker 5: have a full time role. So I think this same
- 42:00Speaker 5: thing about stores, you know, but there's no doubt there's
- 42:03Speaker 5: a role for him. It's just going to be complimentary
- 42:06Speaker 5: to a true kind of why tight end. You know
- 42:09Speaker 5: you're gonna have to have both on the roster.
- 42:11Speaker 3: Yeah, right, guys, Well I think that's going to wrap
- 42:12Speaker 3: up all our productions.
- 42:13Speaker 4: I do some day.
- 42:14Speaker 1: Three guys, do you have to?
- 42:15Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 42:15Speaker 4: I do, I have to.
- 42:17Speaker 5: Okay, there's a couple of guys that we have to
- 42:20Speaker 5: talk about. Marlin Klein from Michigan I think is a
- 42:23Speaker 5: big one German born prospect. Late to football obviously, but
- 42:28Speaker 5: really good movement skills, really good explosiveness, like especially early
- 42:31Speaker 5: in the route. I thought, uh competes's butt off in
- 42:34Speaker 5: the run game. Probably needs a lot of technique work
- 42:36Speaker 5: in that regard, but the effort in the finishes there.
- 42:40Speaker 5: Nate Boorkicker from Texas A and M another high effort
- 42:43Speaker 5: run blocker, good motor, Maybe some untapped potential there in
- 42:47Speaker 5: terms of receiving ability, I would say, and then Wilkes
- 42:52Speaker 5: Merrick from Ohio State is another one that if you
- 42:54Speaker 5: want that prototypical in line, why tight end you know,
- 42:58Speaker 5: he's an option for you there too.
- 42:59Speaker 4: But I really like Cline.
- 43:01Speaker 5: I think that he's one of those guys that he's
- 43:03Speaker 5: already pretty good and he hasn't really played football for
- 43:06Speaker 5: that long. So if you keep developing him and keep
- 43:09Speaker 5: working with him, then it'll be fun. Plus it'd be
- 43:10Speaker 5: fun to have another jud german.
- 43:12Speaker 2: I know whole market real quick, though, Guys, We've done
- 43:13Speaker 2: all these positional previews and I know you guys were
- 43:15Speaker 2: in out on some of them. But favorite position group
- 43:17Speaker 2: this year I'll go first. I'm gonna say the edge class.
- 43:20Speaker 2: I mean, I just think there's a lot of guys,
- 43:21Speaker 2: a lot of different flavors, and I'm excited really from
- 43:24Speaker 2: day one through day three to see potential patriots in
- 43:28Speaker 2: that in that position group.
- 43:29Speaker 7: I'm going to edge just by need. I think there's
- 43:31Speaker 7: a lot of options there. It can't really go wrong.
- 43:33Speaker 7: But you know me, I'm hoping we trade up. I
- 43:37Speaker 7: guess I'll jump out. I'll go I'm gonna go defensive
- 43:39Speaker 7: tackle since you both said edge. But I think it's
- 43:41Speaker 7: a one A one B for me. Yeah, I think,
- 43:43Speaker 7: you know, defensive tackles. There's just so many beasts on
- 43:47Speaker 7: the front.
- 43:47Speaker 11: I mean, I love myself, you know.
- 43:51Speaker 5: Yeah, it depends on your you know, defensive tackle this
- 43:54Speaker 5: year is all about the nose tackle those tackles back.
- 43:56Speaker 5: If you're in that sort of thing, right, it's close.
- 43:59Speaker 4: I would between linebacker and safety.
- 44:02Speaker 5: For me, I'd probably go linebacker though, you know, when
- 44:06Speaker 5: you start at the top, you know, just with Anthony
- 44:08Speaker 5: Hill Junior and C. J. Allen and Jacob Rodriguez and
- 44:11Speaker 5: Jake Golday and Harold Perkins, and I think that there's
- 44:14Speaker 5: a lot of talent at that position. This is one
- 44:16Speaker 5: of the better linebacker classes in the last couple of years,
- 44:19Speaker 5: and I feel like the league needed it, like they
- 44:21Speaker 5: needed an infusion a good linebacker class. There's a lot
- 44:25Speaker 5: of you know, Kyle Lewis's too that can you know,
- 44:27Speaker 5: play a little bit of safety maybe and kind of
- 44:29Speaker 5: cross some lines there.
- 44:30Speaker 4: Hybrid style.
- 44:31Speaker 5: So I really like the linebackers, but Dynaman and McNeil
- 44:35Speaker 5: Warren are two crushes of mine in the safety group too,
- 44:37Speaker 5: so it's a good group there as well.
- 44:39Speaker 2: There you go, well, and thank you guys everybody for
- 44:41Speaker 2: joining us here over the Patriots Draft Countdown.
- 44:43Speaker 3: Got just one week to go before the draft, but
- 44:46Speaker 3: we will have.
- 44:46Speaker 2: One more live hour from one pm to two pm
- 44:49Speaker 2: on Thursday four twenty three, the first day of the draft.
- 44:52Speaker 1: You know, just.
- 44:52Speaker 2: Pregame jitters, getting it all out. You know, we'll be
