- 1:59Speaker 1: Alabama today. We'll talk to our next guest about that
- 2:01Speaker 1: and so much more in the NFL and college, Rafael Esparza. Esparza,
- 2:04Speaker 1: welcome in, sir. How are you?
- 2:07Speaker 3: I am doing well. How about yourself?
- 2:08Speaker 1: You know, we're doing good. Waiting on that rainstorm. You're
- 2:11Speaker 1: down in Louisiana right now, correct? Yes. So y'all are,
- 2:14Speaker 1: I guess, out of the eye of the storm.
- 2:17Speaker 4: No, we'll probably get some wind, maybe some small bands
- 2:21Speaker 4: that maybe will come through, but nothing like some parts
- 2:25Speaker 4: of the panhandle we'll probably get, especially, I mean, they're
- 2:28Speaker 4: saying it could rain.
- 2:30Speaker 3: Go to a three.
- 2:31Speaker 4: I do a lot of research on hurricanes because I
- 2:33Speaker 4: do betting odds on a number of works. So it's
- 2:37Speaker 4: only 10 degree. It's only 10 miles per hour difference
- 2:40Speaker 4: to move it to a two to a three for landing.
- 2:42Speaker 4: So I think it can be easily become a three,
- 2:45Speaker 4: especially how warm the waters are.
- 2:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Yeah, there's no doubt.
- 2:49Speaker 2: All right.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Let's jump into some of these action. Get into some
- 2:51Speaker 1: plays here. Got two ballgames going on tonight. Jacksonville State,
- 2:55Speaker 1: Kennesaw State. That's a 16-14 ballgame edge on Kennesaw and
- 2:59Speaker 1: then Florida International FIU versus New Mexico State. Just kind
- 3:03Speaker 1: of look at some of these matchups the rest of
- 3:05Speaker 1: the week. Tomorrow we've got a couple ballgames, about three
- 3:07Speaker 1: of them. I don't know if any of those interest you.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Maybe South Florida. You know what's interesting? South Florida UTSA.
- 3:13Speaker 1: UTSA is a seven-point favorite, 49.5. They had a $ 6
- 3:16Speaker 1: ticket going on at UTSA tomorrow night.
- 3:20Speaker 3: Wow. Or Roadrunners.
- 3:25Speaker 4: I mean, actually, I like the Roadrunners. I mean, some
- 3:28Speaker 4: places have seven even money. Just like today or tomorrow.
- 3:32Speaker 4: I like Liberty, but I like them first half. I
- 3:34Speaker 4: don't want to lay 13 and a half. I think
- 3:37Speaker 4: they run wild early, so it wouldn't shock me if
- 3:40Speaker 4: they go up ahead early.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Hey, let's go to Friday night. Louisville, Florida State. Big
- 3:47Speaker 1: one for both teams. Louisville trying to stay in the race,
- 3:49Speaker 1: trying to stay in the hunt. Florida State would like
- 3:51Speaker 1: to do the same. Everybody's chasing Miami right now and
- 3:54Speaker 1: maybe Duke. We'll talk about Duke maybe a little later.
- 3:56Speaker 1: But Florida State, Mike Norvell's trying to save his job.
- 3:59Speaker 1: They're at Louisville, Florida State, plus three and a half.
- 4:01Speaker 1: That totals at 59 on a Friday night. Who do
- 4:04Speaker 1: you like in this ACC quote showdown?
- 4:07Speaker 4: Nothing better than go to the Louisville stadium, grab a
- 4:09Speaker 4: bucket of chicken, some KFC and watch the Cardinals beat
- 4:12Speaker 4: Florida State. I'm a little bit shocked that this number
- 4:15Speaker 4: has not moved to four. I'm just not sold on
- 4:18Speaker 4: Florida State. We've been bashing them pretty much all season long.
- 4:21Speaker 4: And I thought Louisville would be up there in a
- 4:23Speaker 4: hunt with Miami and stuff like that. So I think
- 4:26Speaker 4: there's a bigger game for them at home against a
- 4:29Speaker 4: struggling Florida State team where people are thinking, is this
- 4:32Speaker 4: going to be our coach next year?
- 4:34Speaker 1: Another Friday night matchup, Iowa at Washington. Iowa took it
- 4:38Speaker 1: on the chin to Ohio State. I don't think anybody's
- 4:40Speaker 1: surprised by that. They go out to Washington, who played
- 4:44Speaker 1: USC well over the weekend. I believe it was USC,
- 4:47Speaker 1: or maybe it was Penn State. I can't remember. It
- 4:48Speaker 1: was Penn State. Penn State, thank you. Iowa, though, they've
- 4:53Speaker 1: got legitimate college football playoff aspirations. Can they go out west,
- 4:58Speaker 1: and can they get a win on Friday night?
- 5:00Speaker 4: It all depends on how Iowa plays their game. If
- 5:03Speaker 4: they muddy it up, which they did in the first
- 5:05Speaker 4: two quarters against Ohio State, and then Ohio State said, hey,
- 5:10Speaker 4: we have the best player in college football. Let's let
- 5:12Speaker 4: him win our game, and that's what they did. So
- 5:14Speaker 4: if you can muddy the game up, and I think
- 5:16Speaker 4: Iowa's a live dog here on the road against Washington.
- 5:19Speaker 4: If not, pretty much if you see Iowa on your schedule, like, okay,
- 5:23Speaker 4: we need to score 24 points or more to take
- 5:26Speaker 4: care of business against the Hawkeyes.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Staying– I think we got one more Friday night ball game.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Iowa State at BYU, and I bring this up because
- 5:36Speaker 1: I want to talk a little Big 12 real quick.
- 5:38Speaker 1: BYU minus 10.5, and the total is at 46.5. There
- 5:41Speaker 1: may be a couple other Big 12 games to get into,
- 5:44Speaker 1: but I was talking about this Monday on my show.
- 5:48Speaker 1: The Big 12 could throw a major monkey ridge in
- 5:50Speaker 1: the college football playoff because you could have a lot
- 5:52Speaker 1: of 9-3 teams, 3 or 4 in the SEC, 3
- 5:53Speaker 1: or 4 in the Big 10, maybe 1 in the ACC. BYU,
- 5:59Speaker 1: Texas Tech, Utah, and Oklahoma State, they don't all play
- 6:03Speaker 1: each other. And only a couple of them play each
- 6:06Speaker 1: other once. You can get a situation, if they continue
- 6:09Speaker 1: to trend the way they're trending, where you get a 12-0, 11-1,
- 6:13Speaker 1: a couple 10-2s. The Big 12 can make it hard
- 6:16Speaker 1: on the playoff committee.
- 6:17Speaker 4: I would say three of those are correct. I'm not
- 6:19Speaker 4: going to throw in Oklahoma State. I think they have
- 6:22Speaker 4: a hiccup.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Down the road.
- 6:23Speaker 4: But the other three, I mean, besides we still have
- 6:25Speaker 4: the Holy War, That BYU and Utah, because that can
- 6:29Speaker 4: maybe derail someone who loses that and maybe they lose
- 6:32Speaker 4: the game after that. That can maybe derail us. But
- 6:37Speaker 4: that was a great win of Oklahoma State against Oregon.
- 6:39Speaker 4: Don't get me wrong, but I just can't put them
- 6:41Speaker 4: in that mix of four. I only got them three
- 6:43Speaker 4: being legit contenders.
- 6:46Speaker 1: So obviously I'm assuming you would. So BYU, you think
- 6:49Speaker 1: they cover that ten and a half against Iowa State?
- 6:52Speaker 4: That's a big number because now when you're looking at
- 6:55Speaker 4: BYU and Utah, are they looking ahead to the Holy War?
- 6:58Speaker 4: I mean, this is probably going to be one of
- 7:00Speaker 4: the biggest Holy Wars that I can forecast because this is,
- 7:04Speaker 4: I mean, both teams ranked. Both teams have great offenses
- 7:07Speaker 4: and defenses.
- 7:09Speaker 3: It's a big number.
- 7:10Speaker 4: I mean, BYU will win this game, but I don't
- 7:13Speaker 4: want to lay 10, 10 and a half on it.
- 7:15Speaker 1: Saturday morning, Indiana at Nebraska. Indiana minus seven and a half.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Totals at 49 and a half. Indiana has looked somewhat pedestrian.
- 7:25Speaker 1: You know, had a little trouble there with Northwestern. They're
- 7:27Speaker 1: having trouble in Nebraska on Saturday.
- 7:29Speaker 3: Yes. I used to live in Indiana. My youth.
- 7:33Speaker 4: And there was a phrase that there's more than corn
- 7:35Speaker 4: in Indiana. Well, that's going to bite you in the
- 7:38Speaker 4: butt because it would not shock me if Nebraska, the Cornhuskers,
- 7:43Speaker 4: take care of business.
- 7:43Speaker 3: You're at home.
- 7:44Speaker 4: I mean, Indiana's got a target on their head. They
- 7:47Speaker 4: lost one of their key running backs a couple of
- 7:50Speaker 4: games ago. They've had some injuries on both lines, offense
- 7:54Speaker 4: and defense. I can see Nebraska putting a big game
- 7:57Speaker 4: on this one. It wouldn't shock me if Indiana finally
- 8:00Speaker 4: gets an L. When was the last time they lost
- 8:02Speaker 4: a game?
- 8:03Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it's been quite a while. Missouri, they took
- 8:07Speaker 1: it to Florida last week, went down to Mississippi State
- 8:09Speaker 1: a couple weeks ago, Texas A & M. They're looking
- 8:12Speaker 1: for a signature win. They're a three-point dog on the road,
- 8:15Speaker 1: 11 o'clock against Missouri. That total is at 48.5.
- 8:18Speaker 4: If this was any other game that Missouri is playing,
- 8:21Speaker 4: I would be fading them. But I ain't putting none
- 8:24Speaker 4: of my money on A & M. I don't care
- 8:26Speaker 4: who they're playing. Nope, I can't do it. So it
- 8:29Speaker 4: went shockwave. Missouri beats A & M.
- 8:33Speaker 1: Had a Florida caller call in today, a little concerned
- 8:35Speaker 1: about South Carolina, kind of like a wounded dog coming
- 8:38Speaker 1: into Gainesville, Florida licking their wounds. Florida's a 12.5-point favorite.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Seems like a pretty big spread. That totals at 61.
- 8:46Speaker 1: That seems like a high number there. Is the play
- 8:48Speaker 1: the under 61?
- 8:50Speaker 4: I think it is because if you're Florida, if you
- 8:53Speaker 4: go up high in this game, are you just going
- 8:55Speaker 4: to run a ball and just get this game over with?
- 8:58Speaker 4: I understand with South Carolina, betters coming in and all that.
- 9:01Speaker 4: But what's the quarterback's mindset saying that he could be
- 9:04Speaker 4: benched last week? The head coach is gone at the
- 9:08Speaker 4: end of the season. Yes, that defensive guy is probably
- 9:11Speaker 4: going to play in this game. But does the defensive
- 9:13Speaker 4: side want him? There's just too many question marks. It's
- 9:16Speaker 4: either under or past for me.
- 9:19Speaker 2: All right.
- 9:19Speaker 1: This has got to be the lowest total. We're visiting
- 9:22Speaker 1: with Rafael Esparza of ESI Doc Sports. Make sure to
- 9:25Speaker 1: follow him on all social channels. MyBookie.ag. Use the promo
- 9:28Speaker 1: code JakeWim and get in and play today. 39 is
- 9:33Speaker 1: the total on Texas, Oklahoma. Seven and a half is
- 9:37Speaker 1: the line. That may be the lowest. You've got to
- 9:39Speaker 1: go back to the 30s to find an Oklahoma-Texas total
- 9:42Speaker 1: at 39. You have to.
- 9:43Speaker 3: Have you seen Oklahoma play offense?
- 9:46Speaker 1: Right.
- 9:48Speaker 4: This total opened up at 41 and a half, so
- 9:50Speaker 4: it's moved two points. I don't know if there's any
- 9:53Speaker 4: weather involved. I've been so concentrating with... Like with New
- 9:59Speaker 4: Orleans and everything, and a panhandle and above the wind,
- 10:01Speaker 4: when his hurricane goes, I didn't look at Texas's weather.
- 10:04Speaker 3: I don't think there's any weather involved.
- 10:08Speaker 4: I just think this is just a horrible offense that
- 10:10Speaker 4: Oklahoma has forecast.
- 10:12Speaker 3: And I can see Texas easily winning this game. I
- 10:15Speaker 3: want nothing. to do with Oklahoma, what I've seen on
- 10:20Speaker 3: their offense. They're just awful. I've said this thing three
- 10:24Speaker 3: weeks straight. I've had them total season wins over. That
- 10:27Speaker 3: was a for sure winner. This team stinks.
- 10:30Speaker 1: Yeah, they're not any good. All right, are we putting
- 10:32Speaker 1: Oregon on upset alert? UCLA travels into Oregon. They're 4-0.
- 10:36Speaker 1: Bob Chesney's got UCLA in the Bruins. Even Nico Amaliava
- 10:39Speaker 1: doing enough with a big run game out in California
- 10:43Speaker 1: and L.A. Oregon's going to be without Dante Morgan. Looks
- 10:47Speaker 1: like they're going to go with Dylan Raiola. Are we
- 10:49Speaker 1: putting the Ducks on upset alert?
- 10:50Speaker 2: I would.
- 10:51Speaker 4: I mean, I think they win this game. I just
- 10:53Speaker 4: think it's a big, big number. I mean, this UCLA
- 10:55Speaker 4: team is pretty good. They can run the ball. And
- 10:57Speaker 4: we've seen it in college football, and we've even seen
- 10:59Speaker 4: it in the NFL. If you can run the ball,
- 11:02Speaker 4: You can upset and win games. If you can't run
- 11:05Speaker 4: the ball, a.k.a. Cincinnati Bengals, a.k.a. Houston Texans, you lose games.
- 11:11Speaker 4: So we're not shocked if UCLA establishes the run and
- 11:15Speaker 4: is able to run on Oregon. They keep this one close.
- 11:18Speaker 1: Ole Miss back in action. Nashville, they couldn't tackle before
- 11:22Speaker 1: the break. Maybe they've got that fixed. Their 10-point favorite.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Vanderbilt feels like they're fading just a little bit. They
- 11:28Speaker 1: got a couple wins. One of them was the gift
- 11:30Speaker 1: wrap from NC State. This totals at 56-and-a-half. Ole Miss,
- 11:34Speaker 1: get back on the right side of things here.
- 11:36Speaker 4: Yeah, I wasn't sold on Vanderbilt all season long. Yes,
- 11:40Speaker 4: they played some well, but Ole Miss, they needed some
- 11:42Speaker 4: time off. I think they take care of business.
- 11:46Speaker 1: Also, a couple more here. LSU, should we put LSU
- 11:48Speaker 1: on upset alert? Eight-and-a-half point favorite, totals at 52, headed
- 11:53Speaker 1: to play Kentucky. Kenny Minch, he's playing good football. You know,
- 11:57Speaker 1: he almost won that Notre Dame job, didn't get it. C.J.
- 11:59Speaker 1: Carr got it. He goes to Kentucky. They're playing really
- 12:02Speaker 1: good ball. Can Kentucky keep this into the fourth quarter?
- 12:06Speaker 3: Yeah, why not?
- 12:06Speaker 4: I mean, even though A & M' s struggling this year,
- 12:09Speaker 4: you still lost. Kentucky still went to Texas A &
- 12:12Speaker 4: M and won by double digits. They're 4-1, but they're
- 12:15Speaker 4: also 4-1 against the spread. I'm not sold on LSU.
- 12:19Speaker 3: I mean, I've been here. I finally go back to
- 12:21Speaker 3: the West Coast next week.
- 12:23Speaker 4: I am so glad because– To hear the news portray
- 12:26Speaker 4: that easy victory that they had against McNeese State, you
- 12:30Speaker 4: thought you played an SEC team.
- 12:32Speaker 3: Oh, the LSU offense got fixed. Oh, they did this.
- 12:36Speaker 3: I'm like, really? This is why I can't wait for them.
- 12:39Speaker 4: To either get rid of these non-conference or cupcake games,
- 12:45Speaker 4: or you just don't let them count. You can still
- 12:47Speaker 4: play them. McNeese State can still get their six figures
- 12:50Speaker 4: or a million dollars and all that.
- 12:52Speaker 3: You can still play the game, but it does not count.
- 12:55Speaker 3: for your college football stats or rankings.
- 12:57Speaker 1: All right, we've got USC-Penn State. If you want to
- 12:59Speaker 1: touch on that, this feels like an elimination game. I mean,
- 13:01Speaker 1: Penn State's already been beat a couple times. USC needs
- 13:04Speaker 1: a win to stay alive in the Big 12, or
- 13:07Speaker 1: should be the Big 10. Right up next to Georgia-Alabama.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Looks like we're going to get this one in. Bama's
- 13:12Speaker 1: a one-and-a-half-point favorite. Total's at 52. I thought Bama looked
- 13:15Speaker 1: like old Bama last week against Mississippi State. They put
- 13:18Speaker 1: their hands in the ground. They ran the football. And
- 13:21Speaker 1: they've got a really good one in Keelan Russell. But
- 13:23Speaker 1: I like Georgia- I feel like the wrong team's favorite.
- 13:26Speaker 1: Give me Gunnar Stockton. He's got more experience at quarterback.
- 13:29Speaker 1: I like Kirby Smart in this, even though Alabama's had
- 13:32Speaker 1: their number. Your thoughts?
- 13:34Speaker 4: You know me, I have Georgia two tickets, total season
- 13:37Speaker 4: wins over and to win the SEC. But this Alabama
- 13:40Speaker 4: offense is really fun to watch. Remember last year they
- 13:42Speaker 4: couldn't run the ball? This offense is a lion. You
- 13:45Speaker 4: got to give them some credit because they're able to
- 13:47Speaker 4: run the ball. This is one I'm just going to
- 13:49Speaker 4: sit back and enjoy the game. I have no action
- 13:52Speaker 4: on it. I can't wait for this game.
- 13:54Speaker 1: Let's roll over to the NFL real quickly and grab
- 13:57Speaker 1: some of these games. You know, when we kind of
- 13:59Speaker 1: start looking through the NFL, some injuries are taking effect
- 14:02Speaker 1: on some of these teams. We do have the Bears
- 14:05Speaker 1: at Packers, 12 o'clock on Sunday. Chicago, minus 2.5. That
- 14:09Speaker 1: totals at 45.5 in one of the greatest, oldest rivalries
- 14:12Speaker 1: in the NFL.
- 14:13Speaker 4: Yeah, this one's going to be interesting because– Bears are
- 14:16Speaker 4: the road favorite. I'm going to read you a stat.
- 14:17Speaker 4: Bears are minus two and a half road favorite versus
- 14:20Speaker 4: Green Bay for the first time in 20 years. They've
- 14:23Speaker 4: been a road favorite. Last time they were a road
- 14:25Speaker 4: favorite was 2006 week one where the Bears won 26
- 14:28Speaker 4: to nothing. They're a minus three and a half point favorite.
- 14:31Speaker 4: I like the Bears in this spot. I don't care
- 14:33Speaker 4: who's the quarterback.
- 14:34Speaker 3: They just, I mean, they have three quarterbacks that have
- 14:37Speaker 3: W's this year.
- 14:39Speaker 1: No, I agree with you. Any chance that the Browns,
- 14:43Speaker 1: And the only reason I'm bringing up Cleveland is because
- 14:45Speaker 1: they're sitting with a tie with Baltimore right now in
- 14:48Speaker 1: their division at 3-1. Did they get upset by the
- 14:51Speaker 1: Jets this weekend? They're a two-and-a-half-point dog on the road.
- 14:54Speaker 3: I could see the Jets.
- 14:55Speaker 4: I mean, the Jets still play good defense. I mean,
- 14:58Speaker 4: we make fun of the Jets because mostly it's because
- 15:00Speaker 4: of their offense.
- 15:01Speaker 3: But they still play good defense. It wouldn't shock me
- 15:04Speaker 3: if the Jets win this one.
- 15:05Speaker 4: But, boy, wouldn't it be fair if Watson wins another
- 15:09Speaker 4: road game and just putting pies in our faces the
- 15:12Speaker 4: whole season?
- 15:13Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 15:14Speaker 1: Colts at Steelers. Steelers minus two and a half. Totals
- 15:17Speaker 1: at 44 and a half.
- 15:18Speaker 3: I'm fading it.
- 15:19Speaker 4: I always fade a team that's coming back from an
- 15:21Speaker 4: England game. That's what the Colts did, even though it's
- 15:23Speaker 4: Aaron Rodgers. And he'll throw anybody underneath the bus when
- 15:26Speaker 4: he can. I'll take the Steelers laying a soft number
- 15:29Speaker 4: at home.
- 15:31Speaker 3: Raiders.
- 15:32Speaker 1: Impressive story so far. They're on the road. They got
- 15:34Speaker 1: to go all the way across the coast, play New England.
- 15:36Speaker 1: New England's a three and a half point favorite. Totals
- 15:38Speaker 1: at 45. Can the Raiders keep the storybook season going?
- 15:42Speaker 1: Or does New England kind of shut the door on
- 15:44Speaker 1: them here?
- 15:45Speaker 4: I think New England wins, but I think the Raiders
- 15:46Speaker 4: are going to be a hard out. They're going to
- 15:48Speaker 4: cover a lot of games. They're going to make teams
- 15:51Speaker 4: wish they didn't put them on the schedule. I think
- 15:54Speaker 4: New England, big win last week. I think the trend continues.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Vikings only a two-point favorite on the road at New
- 16:00Speaker 1: Orleans who got just blanked by the Falcons the other night.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Totals at 42. New Orleans able to rebound or Vikings
- 16:06Speaker 1: go in and get another win? Stay undefeated.
- 16:08Speaker 3: This one seems like a trap game. I don't know.
- 16:10Speaker 4: You said it. I don't understand why the Vikings, even
- 16:13Speaker 4: though the Vikings have had success at the Dome, if
- 16:15Speaker 4: I would miss miss, was it a penalty in that
- 16:19Speaker 4: playoff game where the Vikings won with a St. Should
- 16:21Speaker 4: have won a passing interference call that was missed like
- 16:25Speaker 4: the Vikings.
- 16:25Speaker 3: I think they still stay undefeated. Crystal Lobby has not
- 16:28Speaker 3: practiced all week.
- 16:30Speaker 1: Big one in the NFC West, 49ers Seahawks. Seahawks get
- 16:34Speaker 1: the nod, minus three. That totals at 46 and a half.
- 16:37Speaker 1: Niners have looked really good.
- 16:39Speaker 4: Yeah, I think the Seahawks defense is the reason why
- 16:41Speaker 4: they give the first to San Francisco. I like to
- 16:45Speaker 4: see a Seahawks defense at home.
- 16:47Speaker 1: Two more and we'll get you on your way. Ravens, Falcons,
- 16:49Speaker 1: Sunday night, 720 kick, Eastern time. Falcons a three and
- 16:52Speaker 1: a half point favorite, totals at 43 and a half.
- 16:55Speaker 1: They have run, Jimmy, run, run the football. Can they
- 16:57Speaker 1: continue to do that on Sunday night?
- 16:59Speaker 4: Yeah, because Jackson still has a bum ankle, and we've
- 17:02Speaker 4: seen the best player in football play on Monday night.
- 17:05Speaker 3: He wears a Falcons jersey. B.
- 17:06Speaker 4: John Robinson.
- 17:07Speaker 3: I think the Falcons.
- 17:09Speaker 1: And Monday night, speaking of, 6-15 Central, 7-15 Eastern. Bills
- 17:14Speaker 1: at the Rams out in L.A. L.A. minus three, totals
- 17:18Speaker 1: at 54.
- 17:19Speaker 4: I'm just going to bet the over in this game
- 17:21Speaker 4: just because I think we're going to see both quarterbacks
- 17:22Speaker 4: have big games. If you're looking for good props, I
- 17:25Speaker 4: like both quarterbacks to throw one plus touchdowns. I'm looking
- 17:30Speaker 4: to bet a lot of props on this game.
- 17:32Speaker 3: I like the over a little bit.
- 17:34Speaker 1: I know you got baseball right in the midst of
- 17:36Speaker 1: the playoffs. Tell everybody we want you to play. I
- 17:38Speaker 1: know there's a lot of plays to be played.
- 17:40Speaker 4: Yeah, the Braves just went home. The Dodgers took care
- 17:43Speaker 4: of business. The Braves are out. Cleveland took care of business.
- 17:46Speaker 4: They're still in. So we have baseball playoffs. NHL hit
- 17:49Speaker 4: the ice. Most of the soccer leagues start up this weekend.
- 17:53Speaker 4: We have UFC Vegas 122 this weekend.
- 17:57Speaker 3: And the NBA kicks off in two or tips off
- 17:59Speaker 3: in two weeks.
- 18:01Speaker 1: Hard to believe. Hey, we'll take a pass tomorrow. I'll
- 18:03Speaker 1: be on the road traveling. Can you do Friday?
- 18:06Speaker 3: I think so. I'll text you. Okay. I'm almost positive.
- 18:09Speaker 3: I'm almost positive.
- 18:10Speaker 1: Yeah, travel day, I got to go down to the
- 18:12Speaker 1: Gulf Coast and do a football game tomorrow night for
- 18:13Speaker 1: junior college.
- 18:14Speaker 4: You're not sandbagging? Is that where you're going? I'm going
- 18:17Speaker 4: to go there. Where are you going next week?
- 18:20Speaker 3: Tomorrow?
- 18:21Speaker 1: Tomorrow? Pearl River Community College. It's in South Mississippi. We
- 18:25Speaker 1: got a game tomorrow night.
- 18:26Speaker 3: Oh, South Mississippi. I thought you said like down the panhandle.
- 18:28Speaker 3: I'm like, you going there?
- 18:29Speaker 1: Oh, no, no, no, no.
- 18:30Speaker 3: Not at all.
- 18:31Speaker 1: All right, Esparza, we'll do Friday. Appreciate you, brother.
- 18:34Speaker 3: Have a good one.
- 18:35Speaker 1: Thanks. Rafael Esparza on your stream tonight. Make sure that
- 18:39Speaker 1: you subscribe to the show on YouTube. Also, check us
- 18:42Speaker 1: out on X at Jake Wim. And then get in and,
- 18:45Speaker 1: of course, play, whether it's use the promo code, Jake Wim.
- 18:50Speaker 1: Let's bring in our next guest. Always kind enough to
- 18:51Speaker 1: give us some time. Sirius XM Satellite Radio. Also, you
- 18:54Speaker 1: can get him at Go For The Two. He'll tell
- 18:56Speaker 1: you where you can get all his shows, Carver, Lissy,
- 18:59Speaker 1: all the things. Joseph Lissy. Lissy, welcome in, brother. What's
- 19:01Speaker 1: going on?
- 19:02Speaker 2: Getting ready for dynamic week number six, Jake. What do
- 19:06Speaker 2: we have, 61 days of college football that kicked off
- 19:09Speaker 2: on Tuesday night? I mean, this is the best time
- 19:11Speaker 2: of the year. We're only in October, and we have
- 19:13Speaker 2: separation Saturday for a number of different teams, but most
- 19:18Speaker 2: importantly in the SEC and Big Ten this weekend.
- 19:21Speaker 1: No, we do, and let's jump into some of those matchups,
- 19:23Speaker 1: and we'll talk about storylines and things going on. We've
- 19:26Speaker 1: got a couple games, like you said, football every day.
- 19:29Speaker 1: You've got three games tomorrow night, Friday night, Florida State
- 19:33Speaker 1: is at Louisville. Florida State, a small favorite in that,
- 19:37Speaker 1: plus three and a half. That totals at 59. Mike Norvell,
- 19:42Speaker 1: who needs this win more? Is it Mike Norvell or
- 19:44Speaker 1: just Louisville? Because I don't think either one chases Miami,
- 19:47Speaker 1: but you know, the chase is on.
- 19:49Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, it's definitely Mike Norvell. I mean, we
- 19:52Speaker 2: talk about a Seminoles team that, yeah, they're playing good
- 19:54Speaker 2: right now. Knocked off Virginia 38-7, but they haven't won
- 19:58Speaker 2: a road game, Jake. Dating back to, what is it, 2024?
- 20:02Speaker 2: I mean, they were 0-5 last year on the road
- 20:05Speaker 2: and lost by an average margin of defeat of 11.5
- 20:09Speaker 2: points per game. Their one road game came against Bama.
- 20:12Speaker 2: They covered as an 18.5-point dog but lost the game outright.
- 20:16Speaker 2: So you saw this line, 5.5 points in favor of Louisville.
- 20:20Speaker 2: Sharp action came in and they took the Noles at
- 20:22Speaker 2: plus 5.5 points. I'm going the other way as much
- 20:25Speaker 2: as I like the nodes overall, and we'd love to
- 20:28Speaker 2: see them get back to a ball game. I think
- 20:30Speaker 2: this is a right spot for Louisville. They're averaging a
- 20:32Speaker 2: buck 98 rushing on the ground. I like Jeff from
- 20:35Speaker 2: in this spot. I think they have a little bit
- 20:37Speaker 2: more consistent offense with kind notes. I think they win
- 20:41Speaker 2: this ball game and cover it.
- 20:43Speaker 1: Saturday morning, 11 o'clock. We got some pretty good intrigue.
- 20:47Speaker 1: One I'm going to be watching. I'm sure you will
- 20:48Speaker 1: be too. Indiana has, has looked pedestrian. There are a,
- 20:52Speaker 1: a touchdown and a hook seven and a half point
- 20:54Speaker 1: favorite on the road at Nebraska total 49 and a half.
- 20:57Speaker 1: Is this a spot to maybe put them on a
- 20:59Speaker 1: slight upset alert?
- 21:01Speaker 2: I mean, it's possible it's back-to-back row games and you
- 21:04Speaker 2: have Ohio state looming. So, I mean, yeah, I mean,
- 21:08Speaker 2: it's safe to say it could be a similar situation
- 21:12Speaker 2: like Florida. I want to say, but you know, Indiana
- 21:14Speaker 2: has been going under the radar. We've heard about Florida.
- 21:17Speaker 2: We've heard about Georgia. We heard about Texas. We heard
- 21:20Speaker 2: about Bama. and obviously Notre Dame and Ohio State, and
- 21:24Speaker 2: I feel like the team that's not being talked about
- 21:26Speaker 2: enough is Indiana. Now, they covered the number against Rutgers
- 21:30Speaker 2: last week, 23.5-point road favorites. They're running the football really well, though.
- 21:36Speaker 2: They're averaging 252 on the ground. They put up 327
- 21:40Speaker 2: and rushed for 8.4 yards per carry against Rutgers. Prior
- 21:44Speaker 2: to that, they put up over 200 against Northwestern since
- 21:48Speaker 2: week two. They've been running unbelievably with that offensive line,
- 21:52Speaker 2: and they're averaging 6.4 yards per carry. Josh Hoover, who
- 21:57Speaker 2: threw last year 29-13, 15-0 right now through five weeks.
- 22:03Speaker 2: He's playing very clean, maybe not as, I want to say,
- 22:06Speaker 2: as electric as Fernando Mendoza, but he's playing within the system. And,
- 22:11Speaker 2: you know, statistically, Nebraska giving up 100 yards per game
- 22:15Speaker 2: on the ground, only 165 through the air. But who
- 22:18Speaker 2: have they played, really? I mean, I think that's really
- 22:21Speaker 2: when you look at the body of work, this is
- 22:23Speaker 2: a different animal. Biggest game for Matt Rule, you could say,
- 22:27Speaker 2: for Nebraska in the past 10 to 15 seasons. But
- 22:31Speaker 2: I think Indiana paced them in this game. I think
- 22:34Speaker 2: Nebraska's good. I don't think they're elite. And I think
- 22:37Speaker 2: Indiana wins this convincingly on Saturday afternoon.
- 22:41Speaker 1: We'll get to Bama, Georgia here in a minute. I
- 22:43Speaker 1: got some questions from both Bama and Georgia fans in
- 22:45Speaker 1: the chat. We will hit that as we kind of
- 22:47Speaker 1: comb through it with Joseph Lissy here in just a bit.
- 22:50Speaker 1: Texas A & M, boy, they put a ton of
- 22:52Speaker 1: money into their program. They have looked very lackluster. They
- 22:56Speaker 1: don't have an answer at quarterback, it seems like. Missouri
- 23:00Speaker 1: is a team that really, I mean, took it to
- 23:01Speaker 1: Florida and just wore them out last week. They've got
- 23:05Speaker 1: Texas A & M at home. Does Missouri and Eli
- 23:07Speaker 1: Drinkwitz continue this run, or can Texas A & M
- 23:10Speaker 1: turn this thing around this weekend?
- 23:11Speaker 2: You know, I talked about this with Coach Bowden. Forget
- 23:13Speaker 2: the upper echelon of SEC teams, Georgia, Bama, Texas. Take
- 23:18Speaker 2: all three of those out. The second tier, LSU, Florida,
- 23:21Speaker 2: Miss State, You want to throw Missouri in there. That's fine.
- 23:25Speaker 2: Inconsistency week to week, right? You never know what you're
- 23:28Speaker 2: going to get. And Texas A & M came off
- 23:30Speaker 2: the mat and covered a dominating fashion against Arkansas. We
- 23:34Speaker 2: talk about Missouri matching up against Florida. They had won
- 23:38Speaker 2: three of the last four against the Gators in Columbia. Well,
- 23:41Speaker 2: Texas A & M has won three straight against Missouri.
- 23:44Speaker 2: And if you watch this game last year, Casey Concepcion
- 23:48Speaker 2: had a field day against that secondary. I know he's
- 23:50Speaker 2: on the Browns now, but Marcel Reed and that team
- 23:53Speaker 2: were able to run the football. They had success. I
- 23:57Speaker 2: like A & M here as a dog. I feel
- 23:59Speaker 2: like they got some of their confidence back. I'm not
- 24:02Speaker 2: buying into A & M big picture, but I think
- 24:04Speaker 2: in this spot in Columbia, I just think personnel-wise they
- 24:08Speaker 2: match up well with the Tigers, and I think they
- 24:11Speaker 2: make it a game and potentially win it.
- 24:14Speaker 1: Florida's back at home. They take on South Carolina. It's
- 24:16Speaker 1: a wounded animal. They're going to get the big defensive
- 24:19Speaker 1: player back, it looks like, at defensive end slash linebacker.
- 24:24Speaker 1: Shane Beamer is in a corner. Can he come out swinging,
- 24:27Speaker 1: or does Florida knock him out this weekend?
- 24:30Speaker 2: You know, there's two ways to look at this. Is
- 24:34Speaker 2: Florida going to take South Carolina lightly? Even though they
- 24:38Speaker 2: got blown out last week, they're at home. This team
- 24:40Speaker 2: is 0-3 in the SEC. And do they just make
- 24:44Speaker 2: it a game, South Carolina, because Florida comes out flat
- 24:48Speaker 2: again and just makes it a four-quarter game? It's possible.
- 24:51Speaker 2: The other flip side is that you had a South
- 24:54Speaker 2: Carolina team that, indeed, Two home games had a double-digit
- 24:58Speaker 2: lead by 16 points and 17 points over both Kentucky
- 25:02Speaker 2: and Miss State and lost both of those games in
- 25:04Speaker 2: the second half. They completely shut down, no second-half adjustments,
- 25:09Speaker 2: and how much longer does the team... And how are
- 25:13Speaker 2: they able to respond if somebody punches you in the mouth?
- 25:16Speaker 2: What if it goes the other way and they down 14-0?
- 25:20Speaker 2: Are they going to respond knowing that, you know, they
- 25:23Speaker 2: just lost two games where they jumped up? That is
- 25:26Speaker 2: the concern. I mean, again, the numbers suggest South Carolina,
- 25:31Speaker 2: but I would probably, if I had to bet this game,
- 25:33Speaker 2: I probably would lay it with Florida, but I don't
- 25:36Speaker 2: like it in any capacity. Cause I don't know what
- 25:39Speaker 2: you're going to get. It wouldn't shock me if Beamer's
- 25:41Speaker 2: fired after this game either.
- 25:43Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 25:43Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:43Speaker 1: Me either. Especially if it's a poor showing. All right.
- 25:47Speaker 1: I don't know. You may know. I've never seen this Texas, Oklahoma.
- 25:52Speaker 1: This totals at 39. You may have to go back
- 25:55Speaker 1: into the forties or the thirties, 1930s. I'm serious. Just
- 25:59Speaker 1: to find a total that low in this ball game,
- 26:02Speaker 1: but that's where we are with Texas and Oklahoma. You
- 26:04Speaker 1: talk about a struggling team. Oklahoma is that, Texas, you know,
- 26:08Speaker 1: has not looked like Alabama. They have not looked like Georgia.
- 26:12Speaker 1: What are we going to see with this?
- 26:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, you know, both teams coming out of
- 26:16Speaker 2: a bye, so there should be preparation, right, on both sides.
- 26:20Speaker 2: This is Oklahoma's Super Bowl. I mean, they're not going
- 26:23Speaker 2: to the college football playoff. All you have to hang
- 26:26Speaker 2: your hat on is this rivalry game against Texas. And
- 26:29Speaker 2: when you look at Texas, to your point, they're two
- 26:32Speaker 2: and six against a number in road spots, including bowl games, right?
- 26:36Speaker 2: you know, all right, they're three and what? They're three
- 26:38Speaker 2: and six. If you count the road win over Michigan
- 26:43Speaker 2: against the number dating back to last year, that's pathetic, Jake.
- 26:47Speaker 2: They didn't cover in five road games last year. They
- 26:51Speaker 2: lost three of them outright. Ohio State, Florida, Georgia, didn't
- 26:55Speaker 2: cover Miss State, didn't cover Kentucky. They didn't cover against
- 26:58Speaker 2: Tennessee this year when they should have covered. But Will
- 27:01Speaker 2: Muschamp took his foot off the gas. Again, I told
- 27:05Speaker 2: Coach Bowden, Is it me or, like, where's the killer
- 27:08Speaker 2: instinct in this Texas team? You're up 10 against Faison Brandon, who,
- 27:13Speaker 2: no offense, he's a freshman that's not ready to play,
- 27:17Speaker 2: and he lost his job to McIntyre. He had 34
- 27:19Speaker 2: yards passing. in that loss to Texas, how you will
- 27:23Speaker 2: allow him in the fourth quarter to double his production
- 27:27Speaker 2: by playing prevent defense in the final three minutes. When
- 27:31Speaker 2: you sack him 10 times, you tell me, I asked
- 27:34Speaker 2: coach Brown, what, like, what are you afraid of? You're
- 27:37Speaker 2: up double digits. If you give up a touchdown. Okay.
- 27:41Speaker 2: But you really think he's going to give up a
- 27:42Speaker 2: touchdown when you sack them 10 times and he had
- 27:45Speaker 2: 34 yards passing in the whole game. and he couldn't
- 27:48Speaker 2: even complete a five-yard out, and you're Will Muschamp, and
- 27:52Speaker 2: you play an umbrella defense to allow them to get
- 27:56Speaker 2: back into the game, and by the way, they almost
- 27:59Speaker 2: lost it? I mean, that's crazy to me. I don't like...
- 28:04Speaker 2: The lack of killer instinct on Texas. Yes, they pulled
- 28:08Speaker 2: out the fourth quarter against Ohio State, but I'm going
- 28:11Speaker 2: to ask you, have we seen four complete quarters from
- 28:14Speaker 2: this team all year? I'm going to take the points
- 28:16Speaker 2: with Oklahoma. Look, Oklahoma doesn't have to win. If they
- 28:20Speaker 2: lose 24-20, 20-17, 20, you know, 20 to 14, some
- 28:26Speaker 2: ugly type of game. I'm willing to take a shot
- 28:29Speaker 2: because I think Venables could be fired after this game.
- 28:32Speaker 2: And if you're not going to get up for Oklahoma,
- 28:35Speaker 2: meaning after a bye week with nothing to play for,
- 28:37Speaker 2: and this is their Super Bowl, when are you going
- 28:40Speaker 2: to get up? You're going to get Oklahoma's best effort
- 28:42Speaker 2: after getting blown out from Georgia. I'll take the points.
- 28:45Speaker 1: I agree with you. Texas has not shown, you know,
- 28:48Speaker 1: that killer instinct where some of these other teams have.
- 28:50Speaker 1: They didn't show it last year. And I don't know
- 28:52Speaker 1: if that's a leadership thing or if that's a coaching thing.
- 28:54Speaker 1: And conversely, I agree with you on Venables. This could
- 28:57Speaker 1: be it for him if it goes really south. Oregon,
- 29:01Speaker 1: looks like Dante Moore is not going to play this week.
- 29:02Speaker 1: They'll go back with Dylan Raiola. They got UCLA coming in.
- 29:06Speaker 1: Bob Chesney has got this team playing ball. Should we
- 29:10Speaker 1: put the Ducks on upset alert?
- 29:12Speaker 2: I think you can. And I told Coach Bowden he
- 29:14Speaker 2: disagreed with me. But I'll say this. Dylan Raiola is
- 29:18Speaker 2: no longer the backup. He's the starter. And, you know,
- 29:22Speaker 2: he comes in last week or two weeks ago and
- 29:25Speaker 2: he's got to perform because it's reactionary. You're not prepared.
- 29:29Speaker 2: Dante Moore goes down with the concussion. He's out of
- 29:32Speaker 2: the game. You have to come in and you're just reacting. Right.
- 29:35Speaker 2: They're calling plays. You don't have a chance to think
- 29:38Speaker 2: about anything, and that's probably the best situation, and he
- 29:42Speaker 2: did fantastic, not taking away from his performances. But we
- 29:46Speaker 2: saw Dylan Rayola when he was the starter at Nebraska. Now, granted,
- 29:49Speaker 2: there was less talent around him than there is at Oregon,
- 29:53Speaker 2: but now he's got the bullseye on his back. He's
- 29:55Speaker 2: had all week to think about this game. It's an
- 29:57Speaker 2: undefeated opponent, a blue-collar team. They play slow. You know,
- 30:02Speaker 2: I like UCLA with the points. I'm not sold on
- 30:05Speaker 2: Oregon either. Consistency wise, they need to win this game.
- 30:10Speaker 2: And I worry about that because again, every week is
- 30:13Speaker 2: you need to win. You need to win. You need
- 30:15Speaker 2: to do that from the get go, but let's not
- 30:18Speaker 2: forget they came out flat in two games. So if you,
- 30:20Speaker 2: if they didn't give you that, then right. Can we
- 30:25Speaker 2: carry that through, even though they got the win against USC?
- 30:28Speaker 2: Are we for sure that they're refocused without their starting quarterback?
- 30:33Speaker 2: I'll take a shot with the Bruins with the points.
- 30:36Speaker 1: Ole Miss back in action. Pete Golding, I know there's
- 30:39Speaker 1: some issues tackling, issues on that defense. We'll see if
- 30:41Speaker 1: they get that corrected. They go to Nashville this weekend
- 30:43Speaker 1: to take on Vanderbilt. Should they have any problems?
- 30:46Speaker 2: No, one of my best bets of the weekend, and
- 30:48Speaker 2: people think I'm nuts, but Vanderbilt back-to-back. losses to Auburn
- 30:52Speaker 2: and Georgia, depending upon when you bet that game, they
- 30:55Speaker 2: covered the Georgia line 24 and a half. Jared Curtis
- 30:59Speaker 2: didn't start, but let's not forget he's a freshman. So
- 31:02Speaker 2: even if he does start, right, in this game, Berlowitz
- 31:05Speaker 2: came in. He completed 12 of 23 for $ 1. 90. You
- 31:09Speaker 2: play two blue-collar defenses, Georgia and Auburn. You got beat
- 31:13Speaker 2: up in the interior. And now here comes a finesse
- 31:15Speaker 2: speed team. They're going to stretch you. I don't care
- 31:18Speaker 2: that it's bad weather. Again, even if it's 30-mile-an-hour winds,
- 31:21Speaker 2: Trinidad Chambliss can scoot. Kiwan Lacy's supposed to come back.
- 31:25Speaker 2: Ole Miss, from the series perspective, played 1-5 straight. by 24.4
- 31:30Speaker 2: points per game, and they're coming off a bye week.
- 31:34Speaker 2: If you're not going to get Ole Miss' best effort
- 31:36Speaker 2: this weekend in Nashville against a beat-up dog, when are
- 31:39Speaker 2: you going to get it? So I'm laying it with
- 31:41Speaker 2: Ole Miss. I don't care what the weather is. I
- 31:44Speaker 2: could see Chambliss rushing for 100, Lacey as well. I
- 31:47Speaker 2: just think they put up a 35 spot. At least
- 31:51Speaker 2: maybe Vandy gets 17, but that's a blowout win as
- 31:54Speaker 2: far as I'm concerned.
- 31:56Speaker 1: Will Stein took the podium this summer and started talking about,
- 32:00Speaker 1: sounded very Curt Signetti-ish, saying, hey, if we win, it'll
- 32:04Speaker 1: be because of me. You know, we're going to play
- 32:06Speaker 1: left lane, hit the gas. We're going to do all
- 32:08Speaker 1: this stuff. They have tried to do their best version
- 32:11Speaker 1: of that, and they have looked pretty good at times.
- 32:14Speaker 1: Can they take LSU into the fourth quarter?
- 32:16Speaker 2: They can. You know, I told somebody this. The last
- 32:21Speaker 2: time I bet this game, And I have to go
- 32:24Speaker 2: back and look. It was the weekend, and this is
- 32:28Speaker 2: how crazy I am. I was at a wedding, and
- 32:30Speaker 2: this is the weekend that Zach Calzada was on A
- 32:34Speaker 2: & M and was catching 18 and a half against
- 32:37Speaker 2: Nick Saban and Bama. It was A & M and
- 32:39Speaker 2: Bama and LSU and Kentucky. And I think it was
- 32:42Speaker 2: Burroughs' first year with Eddie Yell, or maybe it was
- 32:45Speaker 2: the year after. but after they won it in COVID.
- 32:49Speaker 2: But that year, that total was off the rails, and
- 32:53Speaker 2: Kentucky won that game. But they scored, I think, 35
- 32:57Speaker 2: points in the fourth quarter, and the total came through.
- 33:00Speaker 2: It wouldn't shock me if this game gets into the 60s.
- 33:03Speaker 2: It wouldn't shock. Now, I think LSU should win again,
- 33:09Speaker 2: but this is not going to be an easy game
- 33:11Speaker 2: in Lexington. Crazy things happen on a Saturday night, like
- 33:16Speaker 2: when Florida or LSU go to Lexington at night. It's crazy.
- 33:21Speaker 2: I'm hesitant. I lean to LSU, but don't love it.
- 33:26Speaker 1: USC, Penn State. And, you know, I felt like coming
- 33:29Speaker 1: into the season, this was teed up for Penn State.
- 33:32Speaker 1: The schedule is pretty manageable. You know, they've got talent.
- 33:35Speaker 1: They brought a lot of talent in from Iowa State. But, man,
- 33:38Speaker 1: they have really stunk it up here early. USC needs
- 33:41Speaker 1: to stay alive here in this Big Ten race. Do
- 33:44Speaker 1: they do that this weekend traveling across the country?
- 33:47Speaker 2: Man, I don't know. Jake, this game, it wouldn't– on
- 33:51Speaker 2: Sunday morning, I'm going to watch it, but if you
- 33:54Speaker 2: didn't watch it, and Sunday morning you put it up
- 33:57Speaker 2: and Penn State wins 28-21 or USC rolls 50-20, it
- 34:02Speaker 2: wouldn't shock me either way. I'll just say this, though.
- 34:06Speaker 2: If UCLA picks up the victory on Oregon– How much
- 34:10Speaker 2: more pressure is on Lincoln Riley to win this game
- 34:14Speaker 2: at night, knowing that UCLA just knocked off Oregon at 330?
- 34:19Speaker 2: Because that was a team that they had dead to
- 34:22Speaker 2: rights in the second half, and they couldn't close it out.
- 34:25Speaker 2: And now his crosstown rival comes in in year one
- 34:28Speaker 2: and knocks off Dan Lanning. How much pressure is that?
- 34:31Speaker 2: By default, Jake, I'm going to lean to Penn State.
- 34:35Speaker 2: They've lost two straight. They don't look good. But we
- 34:38Speaker 2: know Lincoln Riley on the road is atrocious. What is he,
- 34:42Speaker 2: five and eight straight up?
- 34:43Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 34:44Speaker 2: I can't back that type of team. Again, both teams
- 34:47Speaker 2: have problems, but I'll take the home team on a
- 34:50Speaker 2: whiteout and we'll see what happens. Don't love it, though.
- 34:53Speaker 1: Last week against Mississippi State, Alabama looked like the old
- 34:57Speaker 1: form of Alabama. Just went away by that. They put
- 34:59Speaker 1: their hand in the dirt. They were able to run
- 35:01Speaker 1: the football, control the line of scrimmage. At times they
- 35:04Speaker 1: were getting pressure with three. Kamara Taylor didn't look good.
- 35:07Speaker 1: There's some injuries there. But you've got to credit Alabama.
- 35:09Speaker 1: They looked really good. Georgia has looked really good. This
- 35:12Speaker 1: will be their first big test. It hasn't gone well
- 35:15Speaker 1: against Alabama. I like Georgia in this because of Gunnar Stockton.
- 35:18Speaker 1: Who do you like in this game?
- 35:20Speaker 2: I love Georgia. And again, Ole Miss and Georgia are
- 35:22Speaker 2: my two best plays for the weekend. I just think this,
- 35:27Speaker 2: and I've said this, yeah, Kalen DeBoer is 2-1 against Kirby,
- 35:30Speaker 2: but the last time they played, Kirby shut down Ty Simpson, who,
- 35:34Speaker 2: by the way, was a first-round draft pick for Sean
- 35:36Speaker 2: McVay in L.A. And they completely shut him down 28-7.
- 35:39Speaker 2: I've said from the get-go, I believe personally Georgia's the
- 35:43Speaker 2: best team in the country. They have done nothing in
- 35:46Speaker 2: the first five weeks of the regular season– that lead
- 35:49Speaker 2: me to believe that Bama's better. It's not a knock
- 35:51Speaker 2: on Bama. Bama's playing very well. But Georgia has not
- 35:55Speaker 2: done one thing wrong to lead me off my assessment
- 35:58Speaker 2: or my analysis. They're averaging 51 points per game. They're
- 36:02Speaker 2: rushing for 213 on the ground. They're averaging well over 4.5
- 36:06Speaker 2: yards a carry. Gunnar Stockton's completed 75% of his passes,
- 36:12Speaker 2: 13 touchdowns, one interception. They're holding opposing offenses to 53
- 36:17Speaker 2: rushing yards per game, and all I hear about is Bama, Bama, Bama, Bama.
- 36:21Speaker 2: And granted, Bama knocked off Kamario Taylor, but he still
- 36:24Speaker 2: threw for 280. He was a little turnover prone, one touchdown,
- 36:28Speaker 2: two interceptions. But Bama's beat, and I don't want to
- 36:31Speaker 2: take away from the success of Jeff Lebby this year,
- 36:34Speaker 2: but Bama's owned Mississippi State. It was their 17th straight win. So,
- 36:39Speaker 2: you know, I would much rather go back three weeks
- 36:42Speaker 2: ago and look at a passing attack in Florida State
- 36:45Speaker 2: that had struggled and put up 377 passing yards on
- 36:49Speaker 2: supposedly the best defense in secondary and college football. That's
- 36:53Speaker 2: all I heard all offseason. Five-star, five-star, five-star. And they're
- 36:58Speaker 2: getting absolutely abused, giving up 221 through the air. So.
- 37:03Speaker 2: Again, yes, Alabama's good. They're 15-1 under DeBoer at home.
- 37:07Speaker 2: They've won by an average margin of 29.3 points per game.
- 37:12Speaker 2: But again, I still don't think that Georgia has done
- 37:15Speaker 2: nothing to lead me off believing that they're the best
- 37:18Speaker 2: college football team in America. And I think that that
- 37:21Speaker 2: domination of Oklahoma laying 13-1⁄2 That carries more weight for
- 37:26Speaker 2: me than I think other people. I think more people
- 37:29Speaker 2: are enamored with the victory over Miss State and the
- 37:32Speaker 2: victory over South Carolina and covering against Florida State. But,
- 37:37Speaker 2: I mean, I could throw Oklahoma in that mix and
- 37:39Speaker 2: say defensively they're as good as any one of those teams.
- 37:43Speaker 1: Let me go off the beaten path. A couple more questions.
- 37:45Speaker 1: We'll get you on your way. We're not talking a
- 37:47Speaker 1: whole lot about Miami because they haven't played a whole lot.
- 37:50Speaker 1: You know, great competition. We're not talking about Notre Dame.
- 37:52Speaker 1: Those two will match up next month, end of the month.
- 37:56Speaker 1: You look at the offensive coordinator for Miami. He came
- 37:59Speaker 1: out last week and took a shot at the SEC.
- 38:00Speaker 2: Right.
- 38:01Speaker 1: You can tell there's some frustration maybe in that locker
- 38:03Speaker 1: room because they're not getting recognized. Mario Cristobal's been pretty quiet.
- 38:06Speaker 1: Hadn't said a whole lot. Are we– and I say sleeping.
- 38:09Speaker 1: I don't think we're sleeping on them. It's like Indiana.
- 38:12Speaker 1: They're getting into the meat of their schedule. Georgia, you
- 38:15Speaker 1: said you think is the best team in the country.
- 38:16Speaker 1: I have no problem with that. You can definitely make
- 38:18Speaker 1: that argument. are we not giving Miami and Notre Dame
- 38:22Speaker 1: enough credit?
- 38:23Speaker 2: No, I just think that, hey, we're going to have
- 38:25Speaker 2: their chance, right? You know, they're going to square off
- 38:27Speaker 2: and Notre Dame goes to Provo in a couple of weeks. And,
- 38:30Speaker 2: you know, we'll see what Florida State does on Friday
- 38:33Speaker 2: night against Louisville. They're going to square off in that
- 38:36Speaker 2: rivalry in a couple of weeks as well. So we'll
- 38:38Speaker 2: get a good gauge about where Miami is. I personally
- 38:42Speaker 2: put Georgia one. I would put Miami two. I'm not
- 38:46Speaker 2: in the camp of putting Texas two. one or two,
- 38:48Speaker 2: because I don't think they've shown consistency the way the
- 38:51Speaker 2: other two teams have. And again, you play who's on
- 38:54Speaker 2: your schedule. Again, Miami's just been as dominant as well.
- 38:58Speaker 2: The one outlier was they took their foot off the
- 39:00Speaker 2: gas against Wake Forest, but still didn't cover but won convincingly.
- 39:06Speaker 2: I think Mensah and Chambliss, and you want to put
- 39:10Speaker 2: Keelan Russell in that mix now, are the three best
- 39:13Speaker 2: quarterbacks right now in college football. But I think Miami
- 39:17Speaker 2: has the best defense up there with Georgia, and I
- 39:20Speaker 2: think they're going to be there. I think clearly I
- 39:23Speaker 2: put Miami's defense better than Notre Dame right now. Notre
- 39:27Speaker 2: Dame showed some, I want to say, inconsistent. against North
- 39:31Speaker 2: Carolina last week. They allowed 26 points. I saw that
- 39:35Speaker 2: secondary give up some points. We saw week one against
- 39:38Speaker 2: Colton Joseph where he had some success. They played down
- 39:42Speaker 2: to the level of competition. Georgia and Miami have just
- 39:45Speaker 2: been head and shoulders. You know, they're pulling away from
- 39:48Speaker 2: the competition, but I think all three of those teams
- 39:50Speaker 2: will be there for a college football playoff appearance, no
- 39:54Speaker 2: matter what transpires.
- 39:56Speaker 1: Lastly, and we've talked a little bit about the Big 12,
- 39:58Speaker 1: but I went down a Big 12 rabbit hole Monday
- 40:00Speaker 1: on my show and I got to looking at it
- 40:02Speaker 1: and talking about it and saying, hey, look, Texas Tech, BYU, Utah,
- 40:09Speaker 1: and then maybe Oklahoma State because it looks like they've
- 40:12Speaker 1: got this thing going in the right direction. There's not
- 40:14Speaker 1: a whole lot of crossover of those teams playing each other.
- 40:17Speaker 1: You'll get a couple in there. You get the Holy
- 40:18Speaker 1: War and some others. Could we see a situation possibly
- 40:21Speaker 1: brewing to where three of the four or four of
- 40:24Speaker 1: the four are at ten wins and better, and then
- 40:27Speaker 1: we're going to have a cluster of nine-win teams out
- 40:29Speaker 1: of the SEC, the Big Ten, maybe the ACC. to
- 40:33Speaker 1: where the committee is putting a big predicament here by
- 40:36Speaker 1: the Big 12.
- 40:36Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely. And, again, we talk about brand recognition and
- 40:40Speaker 2: we talk about margin of defeat. Let's just use Florida
- 40:44Speaker 2: for an example. If they're a two-loss team, and let's
- 40:48Speaker 2: just say with Oklahoma State, let's just throw it. And
- 40:51Speaker 2: Oak State has the win against Oregon. And, you know,
- 40:54Speaker 2: obviously Florida has the win against Ole Miss. But, you know,
- 40:57Speaker 2: you look at just where we're at now, and, you know,
- 41:01Speaker 2: Florida got blown out by Missouri. So if we're going
- 41:05Speaker 2: to say that type of situation and Oak State has
- 41:08Speaker 2: two losses and they're small and marginal, their first loss
- 41:13Speaker 2: came against Tulsa by 14 points, I think the committee
- 41:16Speaker 2: would have a decision to make. You know, now the
- 41:19Speaker 2: SEC would be like, hey, we're the best conference. We
- 41:21Speaker 2: play top 25 ranked opponents each and every week. But,
- 41:27Speaker 2: you know, I said it to you last week, if
- 41:29Speaker 2: Iowa gets the win over Ohio State, they're a shoo-in.
- 41:32Speaker 2: Meaning as long as they have two losses, they're a shoo-in.
- 41:35Speaker 2: Two or less. Same thing with Nebraska. Nebraska now picks
- 41:39Speaker 2: up this victory, and they only have two losses, and
- 41:42Speaker 2: it's between Nebraska and Oregon? I would take Nebraska and
- 41:48Speaker 2: it's not a knock against Oregon. It's just, you were
- 41:52Speaker 2: a 23 and a half point road favorite over an
- 41:54Speaker 2: unranked Oklahoma state team. I don't care where Oak state finishes.
- 41:59Speaker 2: When you played them, they were unranked and you didn't
- 42:02Speaker 2: step up. You took that game for granted. And that's,
- 42:07Speaker 2: that's what makes, you know, the controversies, what drives the sport,
- 42:10Speaker 2: but I would be in that camp. I am. I, I, yeah,
- 42:14Speaker 2: I'm not just a shoe into, are we going to give,
- 42:16Speaker 2: if A & M runs the table, are we giving
- 42:19Speaker 2: A & M the benefit of the doubt getting blown
- 42:21Speaker 2: out in two games? You know, as a, as a
- 42:23Speaker 2: 10 point dog, a favorite, a 14 point favorite to Kentucky,
- 42:28Speaker 2: you lose by 10. As an eight and a half
- 42:30Speaker 2: point dog, you lose by 29 to LSU. Can't do it.
- 42:34Speaker 1: You got to lose close.
- 42:35Speaker 2: You got to, the real, and let's not forget the
- 42:38Speaker 2: reason why Notre Dame was in the conversation was, was
- 42:42Speaker 2: not just because they lost their first two games at
- 42:44Speaker 2: 110 straight, but those two losses came by a total
- 42:47Speaker 2: combined of four points. You know, nobody was going to
- 42:50Speaker 2: be talking about Notre Dame if they lost those first
- 42:53Speaker 2: two games by 35 or 40 points, right? It was
- 42:57Speaker 2: because of the narrow margins, why they were in the
- 43:00Speaker 2: conversation as a 10 and two football team.
- 43:04Speaker 1: I agree with you. Lastly, um, broad scope from college football,
- 43:08Speaker 1: all the stuff's going on Capitol Hill. We'll see if
- 43:10Speaker 1: this thing passes. I don't have a whole lot of
- 43:13Speaker 1: faith in it. Southern Miss gets beat last night by Troy.
- 43:17Speaker 1: And I bring that. It was bad, really bad. And
- 43:19Speaker 1: we're seeing now numbers come out and I can't remember
- 43:22Speaker 1: the exact numbers three and 73, meaning, Hey, the, the,
- 43:25Speaker 1: the group of six versus the power four, we're seeing
- 43:28Speaker 1: numbers like never before. Nobody's talking about what do we
- 43:33Speaker 1: do with a group of six and, You know, we're
- 43:35Speaker 1: going to 24 probably on this playoff. That looks like
- 43:38Speaker 1: that's trending, and it's where we're going to go in
- 43:39Speaker 1: the future, in the near future. Excuse me. But nobody's
- 43:43Speaker 1: talking about the group of six. When are we going
- 43:45Speaker 1: to start talking about the group of six and an
- 43:48Speaker 1: actual put them in a bucket by themselves, let them
- 43:51Speaker 1: play a championship, and you may think I'm crazy here,
- 43:54Speaker 1: but nobody's talking about it because the disparity between the two,
- 43:58Speaker 1: group of six and power four, is as wide as
- 44:00Speaker 1: it's ever gotten or been, and it's going to only
- 44:02Speaker 1: get bigger.
- 44:03Speaker 2: Yeah, because NIL, right? You know, now you have kids
- 44:06Speaker 2: going from the group of six schools and getting the
- 44:09Speaker 2: bag of cash. And now it's very difficult to keep
- 44:12Speaker 2: those kids home. And, you know, it's almost like the NIT.
- 44:15Speaker 2: Do we create an NIT for the group of six teams?
- 44:18Speaker 2: You know, but ultimately that'll get phased out. Or, you know,
- 44:22Speaker 2: it's unfortunate, but do you take like, do you merge
- 44:27Speaker 2: the FCS top 24 teams in the FCS with the,
- 44:30Speaker 2: with the group of six, it sounds crazy, but you
- 44:33Speaker 2: want competition. You want parody. You want, you want to
- 44:36Speaker 2: see what we're seeing in the power for each and
- 44:38Speaker 2: every week. And we're not getting that anymore. And that's
- 44:42Speaker 2: the problem is I love the sport. I love the
- 44:45Speaker 2: bowl games. We're just killing everything as we go. You know,
- 44:49Speaker 2: I said to you, let's keep it at 12, but
- 44:52Speaker 2: you know, army and Navy deserve a piece of the
- 44:55Speaker 2: table too, because they're a unique situation and air force
- 44:59Speaker 2: where I would love to see in a, a one-game
- 45:03Speaker 2: situation and scenario where a team has to defend the
- 45:07Speaker 2: triple option on a one-game turnaround. That's very difficult. You know,
- 45:13Speaker 2: where anything can happen. I think we need that back
- 45:16Speaker 2: for the sport. You know, I just don't want to
- 45:18Speaker 2: see Bama and Georgia play every year. I want to
- 45:21Speaker 2: see an opportunity, but I want to see it on
- 45:23Speaker 2: the football field. I don't want to see scheduling just create,
- 45:27Speaker 2: you know, these easy paths. I want to see the
- 45:29Speaker 2: upsets as they play out.
- 45:32Speaker 1: I agree with you. Hey, tell everybody where to find you.
- 45:34Speaker 1: I know you got a lot of stuff going on
- 45:36Speaker 1: this week. You guys will be covering all. You'll be
- 45:37Speaker 1: wall to wall with it.
- 45:38Speaker 2: Yeah, so Wednesdays I'm on. I just did every Wednesday
- 45:43Speaker 2: on Crossing Lines. You can catch me on X and YouTube.
- 45:46Speaker 2: Tuesdays and Friday nights, 7 p.m. Eastern time on Fan Sports,
- 45:52Speaker 2: Fan Stream Sports Network. It's Pound and Ball, The Winning Edge.
- 45:56Speaker 2: We give all the breakdowns for the top 25 games,
- 45:59Speaker 2: the analytics, the statistics from me, and the coaching angle
- 46:03Speaker 2: from Coach Terry Bowden. And then Saturday morning, we bring
- 46:06Speaker 2: in the algorithm and the model of It's the model
- 46:09Speaker 2: versus the encyclopedia. It's up on X, up on YouTube, 10.30 a.m.
- 46:14Speaker 2: We go through a majority of the top 25 games,
- 46:18Speaker 2: and the computer picks seven under-the-radar games. Jake, there's some
- 46:23Speaker 2: crazy games. We were covering JMU and Marshall last week.
- 46:27Speaker 2: We have New Mexico. It was a 5-2 heater, again,
- 46:31Speaker 2: for the computer, and not just– You know, angles, we
- 46:35Speaker 2: go totals, we go teams, team totals. So it's a
- 46:38Speaker 2: pretty unique show and love doing it. Fastest hour and
- 46:41Speaker 2: a half in college football.
- 46:44Speaker 1: Joseph, always appreciate you. Look, have a great week. Enjoy
- 46:46Speaker 1: the game. So we'll do it again next week.
- 46:47Speaker 2: You too, brother. Love the show.
- 46:49Speaker 1: Thank you, brother. Appreciate it. Joseph Lissy on your live
- 46:52Speaker 1: stream tonight. Before we break, let me tell you about
- 46:55Speaker 1: the high school football action. There are several movements in
- 46:58Speaker 1: high school football around the state as some games are
- 47:01Speaker 1: getting moved to tomorrow night because of potential storms. Biggest
- 47:04Speaker 1: games of the week, courtesy of Mississippi Gridiron, you got
- 47:06Speaker 1: number seven, Oak Grove, four and one versus number two, Petal,
- 47:09Speaker 1: six and oh. Battle of the Pine Belt, always a
- 47:12Speaker 1: good one, one of the biggest rivalries in the state.
- 47:15Speaker 1: I like Oak Grove to win this ballgame, though. Brandon Shields,
- 47:18Speaker 1: courtesy of Mississippi Gridiron with Chris Brooks, they have Oak
- 47:21Speaker 1: Grove winning a shootout, 42 to 35. Germantown is three
- 47:25Speaker 1: and two. They're headed to Starkville. Big Region 2-7-8 game
- 47:28Speaker 1: in the state. Starkville's four and one. I like Starkville
- 47:31Speaker 1: getting the win. Starkville starting to find their sea legs
- 47:34Speaker 1: under first-year head coach Brett Morgan, who comes over from
- 47:36Speaker 1: West Point. Starkville 28, Germantown 21. Gulfport, 4-1, takes on St.
- 47:41Speaker 4: Martin.
- 47:42Speaker 1: St. Martin is 6-0. Shout-out to St. Martin on the coast,
- 47:46Speaker 1: but I still think Gulfport is too strong under Blake Pinnock.
- 47:50Speaker 1: I like Gulfport to win. So does Brandon Shields and
- 47:52Speaker 1: Mississippi Gridiron with Chris Brooks, 38-20. New Hope, 3-2, takes
- 47:54Speaker 1: on Lafayette, 5-1. Lafayette should roll in this ballgame. Shields
- 48:00Speaker 1: has them 27-20. Also, Louisville. Louisville. I did it again. Louisville,
- 48:05Speaker 1: the Wildcats, not the Cardinals, takes on Kosciuszko and the Whippets.
- 48:10Speaker 1: Whippets 6-0, Louisville 4-2. Shout-out Breck Riley and everything going
- 48:15Speaker 1: on up there in Kosciuszko. Caden Wade, what a story,
- 48:19Speaker 1: playing in the Mississippi-Alabama All-Star Game. Louisville, though, give me
- 48:22Speaker 1: the cats here. Shields likes the cats, 27-21. Also, Clarksdale
- 48:26Speaker 1: taking on Senatobia. Clarksdale, 4-2. Senatobia, 6-0. Senatobia is rolling.
- 48:32Speaker 1: Let them roll on, 26-19. Also, Columbia, 4-2. Takes on Macomb, 4-2.
- 48:37Speaker 1: Macomb lost a heartbreaker last week in a shootout. Double
- 48:40Speaker 1: overtime game against Picayune. Check that. Poplarville. This week, cats
- 48:46Speaker 1: of Macomb bounce back, 32-26. And speaking of big ball games,
- 48:50Speaker 1: Mendenhall is rolling down South 49. They take on Morton
- 48:54Speaker 1: at 5-1. They travel across up 49 over to 28.
- 48:58Speaker 1: But I like Mendenhall and what they're doing with the
- 49:00Speaker 1: Tigers at Mendenhall. Mendenhall, 30-23. Knoxville County, Winona, this won't
- 49:05Speaker 1: be the only time they play. They'll play again. Knoxville, 5-1. Winona, 6-0.
- 49:10Speaker 1: I like Winona, though, to win, 34-24. And you got
- 49:14Speaker 1: Jackson Prep, 6-1. They got the big win over Jackson
- 49:17Speaker 1: Academy last week, taking on Hartfield. They travel up the
- 49:20Speaker 1: road on Highway 25, Lakeland Drive, to take on the Hawks.
- 49:24Speaker 1: I like Prep to continue the run. Show the Shields, 28-17.
- 49:28Speaker 1: So a lot of teams off this week. I actually
- 49:31Speaker 1: get a thrill this week and kind of a gift.
- 49:34Speaker 1: Thanks to Florence High School. Brandon is off. I'm going
- 49:36Speaker 1: over to work with their broadcast team. They want me
- 49:38Speaker 1: to call the ball game tonight at the old stomping
- 49:40Speaker 1: grounds on Friday night, not tonight. Thankfully, it's not tonight
- 49:43Speaker 1: because it's getting late. So I'll be on that broadcast
- 49:46Speaker 1: for Florence and Leak on Friday. I want to remind
