- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to Not So Fast with Andrew Perloff and Paul Patz,
- 0:05Speaker 1: where two longtime friends challenge each other on the biggest
- 0:08Speaker 1: sports stories.
- 0:09Speaker 2: Of the day.
- 0:10Speaker 1: Here's Andrew Perloff and Paul Patz. Not so fast, my friends.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Welcome to Not So Fast. I'm Andrew Perloff.
- 0:18Speaker 3: He is Paul Paps. NFL Week 2 is almost in
- 0:21Speaker 3: the books. Paul, what do we got cooking?
- 0:23Speaker 4: Bonus coverage today. Peter Burns from the SEC Network, the
- 0:26Speaker 4: anchor down there. He's going to get us recapped Ole Miss, LSU,
- 0:29Speaker 4: and the whole week forward for SEC and college football.
- 0:31Speaker 2: All right. I want to start.
- 0:33Speaker 3: Three minutes, 11 seconds left in overtime. Colts, Chiefs. Colts
- 0:38Speaker 3: face fourth and eight and decide to go for the
- 0:42Speaker 3: field goal. Paul, what was your reaction to this key
- 0:44Speaker 3: play in the game?
- 0:45Speaker 4: Well, it looked like they're going for it. They kind
- 0:47Speaker 4: of pump fake us, the fans and the Colts fans
- 0:49Speaker 4: at home. I see them setting up like great for
- 0:51Speaker 4: the Colts. Try to steal this win. National TV. You've
- 0:54Speaker 4: had a bad run of it the past few months
- 0:56Speaker 4: of last year. Daniel Jones is there. And then they
- 0:58Speaker 4: wave it off like. They didn't see the right setup.
- 1:01Speaker 4: Can't you have two plays called? And you have to
- 1:03Speaker 4: think to yourself, if we don't try for this play,
- 1:06Speaker 4: Patrick Mahomes gets the ball back if we get a
- 1:08Speaker 4: field goal. He has to go 30 yards and hand
- 1:11Speaker 4: it to Harrison Bucker, who can kick it from 65
- 1:14Speaker 4: and maybe more. It seemed like they chose to lose
- 1:17Speaker 4: almost rather than even try to win.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Yeah, of course, the Chiefs did go on to do
- 1:21Speaker 2: exactly that.
- 1:22Speaker 4: But you expected that, right?
- 1:23Speaker 2: Of course. You knew it was over.
- 1:25Speaker 3: The problem is that play, 4th and 8th. It wasn't
- 1:27Speaker 3: fourth and one. It was fourth and eight. I looked
- 1:29Speaker 3: up some numbers. Historically, NFL teams, 39% on fourth and eight.
- 1:34Speaker 3: But a couple things. Alec Pierce went down, the Colts receiver.
- 1:37Speaker 3: So they were stuck playing Laquan Treadwell, who had caught
- 1:41Speaker 3: a long pass and fumbled the ball and not fumbled.
- 1:43Speaker 2: But they didn't have their full receiving core.
- 1:45Speaker 3: The Chiefs had the red zone behind them, so they
- 1:48Speaker 3: couldn't go long. This was a very, very— they had about
- 1:51Speaker 3: a 20% chance of hitting this play ball. And they
- 1:53Speaker 3: had probably about a 20% chance of stopping the Chiefs.
- 1:56Speaker 3: I think he made a calculated risk and decided.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Why am I going to go for a fourth and eight?
- 2:00Speaker 2: We have very little chance.
- 2:01Speaker 4: I think this is one of those rare cases where
- 2:03Speaker 4: analytics don't work out for you. I think you trump
- 2:06Speaker 4: it with gut because gut gets you credit. Let's say
- 2:09Speaker 4: you try that play and you get a first down.
- 2:11Speaker 4: You don't even need a touchdown there. And you get
- 2:13Speaker 4: a first down or you get a touchdown and you
- 2:14Speaker 4: steal this win that you shouldn't have gotten. I think
- 2:17Speaker 4: the home fans and maybe even the national fans will
- 2:19Speaker 4: give you credit for having the guts to go for it. Now,
- 2:21Speaker 4: guts doesn't keep you employed, but you know if you
- 2:24Speaker 4: give it back to Mahomes, the odds, are you saying
- 2:26Speaker 4: I'm backing my defense? Yeah, but let's not kid each other.
- 2:29Speaker 4: Mahomes needs 30 yards. That's not a problem.
- 2:31Speaker 3: I think he's saying, no, I don't think Daniel Jones
- 2:34Speaker 3: is going to be able to complete a pass against
- 2:35Speaker 3: his own defense. He was looking for the blitz, which
- 2:37Speaker 3: Jones did well against, but there were a lot of
- 2:39Speaker 3: problems with Indy on that drive. They got the long
- 2:42Speaker 3: pass to Treadwell, and then they had a minus-one-yard run
- 2:45Speaker 3: and a minus-two-yard run.
- 2:46Speaker 2: That's where the game was decided. Jonathan Taylor was great
- 2:50Speaker 2: all night. Then he got stuffed on two key plays.
- 2:52Speaker 3: Then Daniel Jones scrambled for a few yards. Paul, my
- 2:55Speaker 3: gut said the same thing as Syken. They were not
- 2:57Speaker 3: about to make that first down.
- 2:58Speaker 4: A couple things here. I think we all realized last
- 3:01Speaker 4: night that Laquan Treadwell was still in the league. I
- 3:03Speaker 4: had no idea. This play looked like a great play
- 3:06Speaker 4: for the Colts. to a bad play for the Colts
- 3:08Speaker 4: and a win for the Chiefs. And was that a
- 3:10Speaker 4: correct replay? Because I know you have some problems with
- 3:12Speaker 4: the replay officials these days.
- 3:13Speaker 3: Well, the question was, when did he have possession of
- 3:16Speaker 3: the ball? And was the Chiefs defender touching his hip?
- 3:19Speaker 3: It is a game of centimeters, Paul.
- 3:21Speaker 4: And milliseconds. It was like a hip grazing, not even
- 3:23Speaker 4: a touching, but they said, he's down.
- 3:26Speaker 3: I think that that whole thing got the Colts off
- 3:28Speaker 3: their game because the next two plays were a disaster.
- 3:30Speaker 2: That's why I think the fourth down play was going
- 3:32Speaker 2: to be a disaster. You might as well let your
- 3:33Speaker 2: defense try and do something. Now, you're right. Of course,
- 3:36Speaker 2: the Chiefs were going to come down and score. But
- 3:38Speaker 2: I'm telling you right now, Shane Steichen is very smart.
- 3:41Speaker 2: He knew they were not about to convert.
- 3:44Speaker 4: But that sends such a bad message for your quarterback.
- 3:46Speaker 4: I know Daniel Jones, the first half of last year
- 3:49Speaker 4: before the injury, looked amazing. as good as Daniel Jones
- 3:52Speaker 4: can look, which may be not high-end football. But in
- 3:54Speaker 4: the postgame, I saw Daniel Jones. He looked, like, not
- 3:57Speaker 4: just defeated, but, like, uninspired. Like, he didn't have any backing.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Do you know what Daniel Jones' primetime record is, Paul?
- 4:03Speaker 4: Probably, like, 1-5.
- 4:04Speaker 2: You'd think that. More like 1-15.
- 4:05Speaker 5: Okay.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Or at least teams he's been on are 1-15 primetime.
- 4:08Speaker 2: I had the 5-1. He can never win in primetime.
- 4:12Speaker 2: He is snakebitten.
- 4:13Speaker 3: But the Colts, I think the Colts are not a
- 4:15Speaker 3: bad team. They've lost at Baltimore and at Kansas City.
- 4:18Speaker 2: That's two hard assignments. And last night, they gave the
- 4:21Speaker 2: Chiefs everything they had. I would even argue they were
- 4:23Speaker 2: maybe the better team on the field, and the Chiefs
- 4:25Speaker 2: are probably going to the Super Bowl. So I'm not
- 4:27Speaker 2: dead on the Colts.
- 4:28Speaker 4: That is a warm take early.
- 4:29Speaker 1: You're hot.
- 4:29Speaker 4: Shout out to Kansas. All right, let's go to maybe
- 4:31Speaker 4: some negatives and how negative are they. What game do
- 4:33Speaker 4: you want to go next?
- 4:34Speaker 2: Well, I mean, I know you're a Bears fan, and
- 4:36Speaker 2: this might hurt your feelings, but there was pretty big negative,
- 4:39Speaker 2: a couple big negatives.
- 4:41Speaker 3: The outcome, Vikings win 9-3. Caleb Williams' injury, I thought
- 4:46Speaker 3: it was dunzo for the year. I thought this was
- 4:49Speaker 3: all over. You could hear the screaming on the TV copy.
- 4:52Speaker 2: Paul, what was your reaction?
- 4:53Speaker 4: Well, he didn't get touched, which makes it even worse.
- 4:55Speaker 4: The field was in terrible condition. He didn't grab anything
- 4:58Speaker 4: when he went down. And then he rolls over Caleb
- 5:00Speaker 4: Williams and screams right there, as you could hear. The
- 5:03Speaker 4: crowd is deadly silent. And, of course, you're thinking, I
- 5:05Speaker 4: think we're conditioned to think that's an Achilles tear and
- 5:08Speaker 4: it's over, Johnny. I think that's what the average Bear
- 5:10Speaker 4: fan thinks. And maybe even a casual fan thought when
- 5:12Speaker 4: they saw his reaction. And then they go instantly to
- 5:15Speaker 4: the cart. The cart is usually extreme injury.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Yeah, this was a premature cart, I feel like. And
- 5:20Speaker 2: also his reaction, a lot of people are, I hate
- 5:23Speaker 2: to say it, making fun of Caleb a little bit.
- 5:25Speaker 2: He looked like he was crying, had a towel over
- 5:27Speaker 2: his head. Usually you reserve that for a very, very
- 5:30Speaker 2: serious injury.
- 5:30Speaker 4: So it appears that it's a hamstring injury and not
- 5:33Speaker 4: a knee or Achilles that would take him out for
- 5:36Speaker 4: the season. And when he left the field and he's
- 5:38Speaker 4: on the cart, he had the towel over the head.
- 5:40Speaker 4: removes the towel, tears around the face, at least choked up,
- 5:44Speaker 4: and then does the, I got you guys, to the fans.
- 5:47Speaker 4: that made me think even more so that it was
- 5:48Speaker 4: an Achilles tear. And you're saying now it's not going,
- 5:51Speaker 4: even though from multiple reports say it's just a hamstring
- 5:54Speaker 4: and maybe not even a serious hamstring.
- 5:56Speaker 2: No, there's a report that he might be available for
- 5:58Speaker 2: week three. That's next week, Paul.
- 6:00Speaker 4: This might be the weirdest thing of the week in
- 6:03Speaker 4: pro football. The Bears quarterback who the Bears fans thought
- 6:06Speaker 4: was out for the season is actually going to be
- 6:08Speaker 4: okay and maybe miss a week. But now Caleb Williams
- 6:11Speaker 4: has to deal with being an internet sensation on social
- 6:13Speaker 4: media for You know, like I saw a post today,
- 6:15Speaker 4: I stepped on a Lego, but I'll be fine. And
- 6:17Speaker 4: it was a guy crying like Caleb Williams.
- 6:19Speaker 3: Yeah, I saw, oh, I burnt my tongue on coffee.
- 6:21Speaker 3: And then it's Caleb Williams. You know, one thing, hamstring
- 6:24Speaker 3: injuries slow you down. They are very reliant on Caleb
- 6:27Speaker 3: running around.
- 6:28Speaker 2: Yes.
- 6:28Speaker 3: That could be a real issue. Like, we're making fun
- 6:30Speaker 3: of Caleb Williams right now. You cut his mobility out,
- 6:33Speaker 3: then I think you have some problems in Chicago. Did
- 6:35Speaker 3: the whole Bears are going to be this dominant offense
- 6:37Speaker 3: thing fall apart after Sunday?
- 6:39Speaker 4: Well, that's a bigger story. Caleb Williams' injury is sucking
- 6:41Speaker 4: all the life out of this story. But the fact
- 6:42Speaker 4: that 59-3 in Week 2, now the good news is
- 6:46Speaker 4: they're averaging 31 points a game on offense over.
- 6:48Speaker 2: The course of the week.
- 6:49Speaker 3: I had a thought that Caleb Williams has been reading
- 6:51Speaker 3: his own headlines, too, because on the interception, he rolled right,
- 6:54Speaker 3: and he had a guy 20 yards out and just
- 6:56Speaker 3: flung it. It's an impossible pass in the rain, and
- 6:58Speaker 3: of course it got picked off. I think Caleb thinks
- 7:00Speaker 3: he could do anything, and maybe this brings him down
- 7:02Speaker 3: to earth.
- 7:02Speaker 4: He does have unlimited confidence, and against a good defense.
- 7:05Speaker 4: This was a quality defense. The Vikings are almost always
- 7:07Speaker 4: a quality defense, but if you look at it, they
- 7:10Speaker 4: were all over him the whole way, and Bears fans
- 7:12Speaker 4: are in this mode now where It's not just the injury.
- 7:15Speaker 4: It's like, what did I see the first 59 minutes?
- 7:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:18Speaker 3: And then it was tough, tough assignment for Tyson Bajan
- 7:20Speaker 3: to come in at the end and try and win
- 7:22Speaker 3: the game.
- 7:23Speaker 2: But I don't think it's a calamity in Chicago. To me,
- 7:26Speaker 2: it was a rain. We'll get more into the rain later.
- 7:28Speaker 2: But there is a calamity out there in the NFL.
- 7:30Speaker 2: And I know you know what I'm talking about.
- 7:31Speaker 4: We held up as long as we can. The Chargers,
- 7:33Speaker 4: we talked about this on Friday's show. We said Monday's
- 7:35Speaker 4: lead today, what would be the worst thing that could happen?
- 7:38Speaker 4: And it's the Chargers losing to the Raiders. And For
- 7:41Speaker 4: the second week in a row, the Chargers lose 26-14.
- 7:43Speaker 4: Even their scores are boring. And they were unthreatening the
- 7:46Speaker 4: whole way. This wasn't some fluke win that the Vegas
- 7:48Speaker 4: didn't deserve. Cousins looked great, and Justin Herbert looked average.
- 7:52Speaker 4: And average is probably a compliment. Look at this pass.
- 7:54Speaker 1: Just.
- 7:55Speaker 4: All over the place, that's a RCI, classic RCI receiver-caused interception.
- 7:58Speaker 3: That one wasn't on him. There was another one that
- 8:00Speaker 3: was on him. But he generally doesn't look comfortable.
- 8:03Speaker 2: He doesn't look poised.
- 8:04Speaker 3: Fourth quarter of the game, I had more faith in
- 8:06Speaker 3: Kirk Cousins at 38 than Justin Herbert, who Jim Harbaugh
- 8:10Speaker 3: kept telling me is the best quarterback in the NFL.
- 8:13Speaker 3: I guess not, because right now he looks well below average.
- 8:16Speaker 4: Okay, we're going to look at the schedule here coming
- 8:17Speaker 4: up for the Chargers, because it is brutal. And you
- 8:20Speaker 4: can't really see them really going above. 500 at halfway
- 8:23Speaker 4: point through the season. Bills, Seahawks. It just goes on
- 8:27Speaker 4: and on.
- 8:27Speaker 2: 0-9 is on the table. 0-9. 0-9.
- 8:30Speaker 4: And the Jets are better than we think. I want
- 8:32Speaker 4: to go away from the Chargers and get to the quarterback.
- 8:35Speaker 4: Do you think we've seen Justin Herbert's best work?
- 8:38Speaker 3: He had 38 touchdowns one season. No, I think he's
- 8:41Speaker 3: got all the physical skills in the world. I thought
- 8:43Speaker 3: he was going to be good with Mike McDaniel, but no,
- 8:45Speaker 3: I don't think we've seen his best work because he's
- 8:47Speaker 3: never done anything in the playoffs.
- 8:49Speaker 4: How about the Chargers season? 0-2, can they get out
- 8:51Speaker 4: of this one?
- 8:53Speaker 3: No, I think it's, I think, no, that was the
- 8:55Speaker 3: two easiest games. They had the two easiest games of
- 8:57Speaker 3: any team in the NFL. They hosted Arizona and Vegas.
- 9:00Speaker 3: You can't win those two games. How are you going
- 9:02Speaker 3: to get out of that division?
- 9:03Speaker 2: Casey is back. Denver is back. And now the Raiders
- 9:07Speaker 2: are good. No, no, I mean, listen, am I going
- 9:10Speaker 2: to regret this?
- 9:11Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 9:11Speaker 2: I mean, what do you think? Do you think that
- 9:13Speaker 2: they have a shot?
- 9:13Speaker 4: I think it's too, the odds are too much against it.
- 9:15Speaker 4: You don't have like an easy game in the mix.
- 9:17Speaker 4: You don't have a Miami game in the mix. Or
- 9:19Speaker 4: even a Cleveland played better.
- 9:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:21Speaker 4: All right, let's try to be positive a little bit here,
- 9:23Speaker 4: a little negative on not-so-fast Paps and Perloff. Let's do
- 9:25Speaker 4: some helmet stickers. You're first.
- 9:27Speaker 2: Okay.
- 9:28Speaker 3: Carolina Panthers had a dominant win over Atlanta. There were
- 9:30Speaker 3: several helmet-stickers you could go to. Bryce Young was awesome.
- 9:33Speaker 3: Devin Lloyd, the linebacker, was dominant.
- 9:36Speaker 2: But I'm going with my buddy, Darren Waller, tight end.
- 9:38Speaker 3: I don't know if everyone even knew. He signed with
- 9:40Speaker 3: Carolina right before the season started.
- 9:43Speaker 2: Two touchdowns. Had a bunch of touchdowns last year with Miami.
- 9:47Speaker 2: He's really, really good.
- 9:48Speaker 3: And actually, Carolina's really good now, and their offense is
- 9:51Speaker 3: something to be dealt with.
- 9:52Speaker 2: And I can't wait to see Darren Waller in there.
- 9:54Speaker 4: They just need a little bit of defense, but that
- 9:56Speaker 4: offense looks great. And if you look at the career
- 9:58Speaker 4: of Bryce Young, he was declared a bust at one
- 10:00Speaker 4: point in his sophomore year of the pros. And now
- 10:04Speaker 4: it's like he's going to be getting himself a contract.
- 10:05Speaker 4: I don't know if he's going to get the full
- 10:07Speaker 4: boat 275, but he may get one of those mid-level
- 10:09Speaker 4: Baker Mayfield contracts.
- 10:11Speaker 3: I think he's week to week in the sense that
- 10:12Speaker 3: when you play Atlanta, I think I could get $ 30
- 10:15Speaker 3: million a year for playing Atlanta. I don't know if
- 10:17Speaker 3: Bryce Young, it's an interesting team. They could win that division.
- 10:20Speaker 3: Nobody's looked great there, so they have a great shot.
- 10:22Speaker 3: I mean, New Orleans is interesting.
- 10:24Speaker 2: It's funny, all of a sudden we have a Carolina-New
- 10:26Speaker 2: Orleans battle in the NFC South.
- 10:27Speaker 4: That's as weird as it gets. My helmet sticker, not
- 10:29Speaker 4: a surprise. Bengals wide receiver Jamar Chase, unbelievable catch. Watch
- 10:33Speaker 4: this catch because the first time I saw it, I
- 10:35Speaker 4: didn't even think it was reality. There's Jamar Chase looking
- 10:38Speaker 4: beautiful with his helmet sticker. But he is, I think,
- 10:41Speaker 4: the guy who people trust in a situation like this.
- 10:43Speaker 4: Look at the turn on this one.
- 10:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:46Speaker 4: And he turned, kept them both in, and brought it
- 10:49Speaker 4: in all in the same motion. Slow motion almost hurts
- 10:52Speaker 4: that play because in fast motion, or regular motion as
- 10:55Speaker 4: you like to call it.
- 10:56Speaker 3: That was freakish. Yeah, no, he didn't do anything week one.
- 11:00Speaker 3: He wasn't even part of the game plan. So they
- 11:02Speaker 3: emphasized him. That was a tough game. That was a
- 11:04Speaker 3: key play, too, because they were not moving the ball
- 11:06Speaker 3: well against Houston. I know it looked like a dominant
- 11:09Speaker 3: win for Cincinnati, but Houston's defense was back to being
- 11:12Speaker 3: Houston's defense, and Chase saved them two touchdowns.
- 11:14Speaker 4: All right, we're going to talk a lot more college
- 11:15Speaker 4: football in a second, but the college football, the game
- 11:18Speaker 4: of the year in maybe all sports, that nine-month buildup
- 11:21Speaker 4: to Lane Kiffin returning to Oxford, Mississippi, was fantastic. It
- 11:24Speaker 4: was one of those games where it was an all-day buildup.
- 11:27Speaker 4: You're watching the different shows, watching Lane Kiffin on different shows,
- 11:29Speaker 4: watching the crowd reactions. to him getting off the bus,
- 11:32Speaker 4: and then the game itself, you're hoping, I hope this
- 11:35Speaker 4: isn't a disappointment. And it wasn't, because Ole Miss came
- 11:37Speaker 4: out gunning. They were just whipping them really early, and
- 11:40Speaker 4: it looked like it was borderline blowout. And then two
- 11:42Speaker 4: touchdowns in the third quarter by LSU, and you're like,
- 11:44Speaker 4: now we have a game.
- 11:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, game of the year. I mean, it's
- 11:47Speaker 2: college football. There'll be another game of the year next week.
- 11:49Speaker 4: Build-up of the year.
- 11:50Speaker 3: The build-up of the year, right. The grudge match of
- 11:52Speaker 3: the year. I thought for a while there that Mississippi
- 11:55Speaker 3: was going to blow them out. I think they sort
- 11:58Speaker 3: of laid back and let LSU get back into that game.
- 12:01Speaker 3: To me, it felt like Trinidad Chambliss, the Ole Miss quarterback,
- 12:04Speaker 3: could have taken over at any time and won the game.
- 12:06Speaker 4: And he did close it out. Chambliss closed it out.
- 12:08Speaker 4: They did the two-point conversion, which was really gutsy. But Chambliss,
- 12:11Speaker 4: put your arms up because you. You probably earned your
- 12:14Speaker 4: invite to New York City. It's way, way early, but
- 12:17Speaker 4: you may be the Sept Heisman winner.
- 12:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not sure either of these teams are going
- 12:20Speaker 2: to be there in the end.
- 12:21Speaker 3: LSU looked amazing against Clemson, but Clemson's probably not that great.
- 12:26Speaker 2: One thing about LSU, Sam Levitt's coming into Lane Kiffin offense.
- 12:29Speaker 3: You can see it takes time to get used to that,
- 12:31Speaker 3: where Trinidad Chambliss knows that system really well at Ole Miss.
- 12:34Speaker 2: So I don't know. Do you expect either team to
- 12:36Speaker 2: be there at the end?
- 12:37Speaker 4: I think that whole league kind of consumes itself, and
- 12:39Speaker 4: you've got to go on one of those runs. But
- 12:40Speaker 4: at least Ole Miss is in position to go on
- 12:42Speaker 4: a run.
- 12:43Speaker 2: Exactly. All right.
- 12:45Speaker 3: This is not going to be pretty, but we may
- 12:47Speaker 3: have witnessed the worst loss of all time in college
- 12:50Speaker 3: football on Saturday.
- 12:51Speaker 2: We're not kidding. We'll talk about it next. Not so fast.
- 12:56Speaker 4: Here we go, Pearl. The midday pick me up. I'm
- 12:57Speaker 4: not so fast. I love this one. Little Pittsburgh Pirates.
- 13:02Speaker 4: You're a big Pirate fan down the line. That's saucy.
- 13:07Speaker 2: It's the end of the year. Why not?
- 13:09Speaker 4: Ryan O'Hearn, yeah. What is it going to cost you?
- 13:10Speaker 4: A playoff?
- 13:10Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. If it doesn't work, eh, so what?
- 13:13Speaker 4: Good-looking uniforms. Great win there by your Pirates. That was fun.
- 13:17Speaker 4: All right, back on Not So Fast. It's time for
- 13:19Speaker 4: some warm takes on Pabst. He's Perloff. I will go first.
- 13:21Speaker 4: It's warm take time. I'm going to go right down
- 13:24Speaker 4: to a guy I've warmed take before on this show.
- 13:25Speaker 4: We're only not even a month in. Bill Belichick, you
- 13:28Speaker 4: had a great opportunity. It's been an awful season for
- 13:31Speaker 4: UNC football off the field. Every week someone resigns, not
- 13:34Speaker 4: by choice. investigations all over the place. But you beat
- 13:37Speaker 4: TCU in Ireland. Then you beat East Tennessee State. And
- 13:41Speaker 4: you're up pretty well against Clemson the other day before
- 13:44Speaker 4: the rain delay, power delay. And if you could have
- 13:46Speaker 4: closed that game out, UNC football, you're 3-0 with a
- 13:49Speaker 4: bye week and Notre Dame coming to town in two
- 13:53Speaker 4: weeks from now. I don't know if game day would
- 13:54Speaker 4: have gone there, but they would have considered that because
- 13:56Speaker 4: that's Bill Belichick relevant again and Notre Dame football. Now,
- 14:00Speaker 4: they definitely look better, but this was one of those
- 14:02Speaker 4: games you can't let go. And UNC football... It might
- 14:05Speaker 4: go the other way because if you look at their
- 14:06Speaker 4: schedule coming up, the Clemson win was almost necessary for
- 14:09Speaker 4: positive momentum, more on the field than off. But now
- 14:11Speaker 4: you've got Notre Dame, Pitt, Duke, Syracuse, then the Miami Hurricane.
- 14:16Speaker 4: So if we get to the five weeks from now
- 14:19Speaker 4: and they've lost four out of five when we're talking
- 14:21Speaker 4: about what Bill Belichick is going to do next with
- 14:23Speaker 4: his life, go to Nantucket or be a defensive coordinator
- 14:26Speaker 4: for Army, that will be the reason because this was
- 14:29Speaker 4: a stretch they could have gone on a run. Whether
- 14:30Speaker 4: they beat Notre Dame in two weeks or not, it
- 14:32Speaker 4: was the anticipation of doing something. That's kind of missed
- 14:35Speaker 4: for sports fans.
- 14:36Speaker 3: I understand what you're saying, but they have this one
- 14:38Speaker 3: handicap is that they're not a good football team.
- 14:40Speaker 4: Not so good.
- 14:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:41Speaker 3: So if they're not good, did they blow it or
- 14:44Speaker 3: they just kind of they're kind of average?
- 14:46Speaker 2: Well, kind of meh.
- 14:47Speaker 4: I would say they're like a B minus. They don't
- 14:49Speaker 4: they're not exciting. They don't have star players. But they
- 14:51Speaker 4: put up a pretty good fight against TCU in a
- 14:53Speaker 4: game they probably are the lesser team. And Clemson, Clemson's
- 14:56Speaker 4: so down. You had everybody in your corner. Dabo's people were,
- 15:00Speaker 4: you better win this one.
- 15:00Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, Clemson just had to run their quarterback
- 15:03Speaker 3: on every play. I think both teams are pretty bad.
- 15:05Speaker 2: So that Notre Dame game, honestly, it might be better
- 15:08Speaker 2: that they're not going for game day because Notre Dame.
- 15:11Speaker 3: Could whoop on them. We'll see in a few weeks. Okay,
- 15:14Speaker 3: I'm going to go to the NFL for my first take.
- 15:16Speaker 2: Okay.
- 15:18Speaker 3: I don't want to sound like a hometown fan. I
- 15:20Speaker 3: am from Philadelphia, but this is purely objective. The Philadelphia
- 15:24Speaker 3: Eagles have an MVP candidate, and his name is Jalen.
- 15:27Speaker 3: And it is definitely not Jalen Hurts. Jalen Carter is
- 15:30Speaker 3: the best defensive player in the NFL and arguably the
- 15:33Speaker 3: biggest force in the NFL.
- 15:35Speaker 2: He single-handedly won this Titans game. Titans were rolling. Get
- 15:38Speaker 2: down to the red zone. First down, he has a
- 15:41Speaker 2: nine-yard sack. He just blows off his guy. Every game
- 15:44Speaker 2: that the Eagles win, Jalen Carter makes a play. whether
- 15:47Speaker 2: it's a blocked extra point, whether it's a big tackle,
- 15:50Speaker 2: whether it's a sack, you just know looking at this guy,
- 15:53Speaker 2: he is the best football player on the field.
- 15:56Speaker 3: Like junior football, youth football, Paul, there's that one guy
- 15:59Speaker 3: who's just bigger than everybody.
- 16:00Speaker 4: Yes, and you can't stop him.
- 16:01Speaker 2: You can't stop him.
- 16:01Speaker 3: I think Jalen Carter's off-field stuff has always hung with him,
- 16:05Speaker 3: and his reputation may not be where it should be.
- 16:07Speaker 2: Because on the field, he is dominant. And the reason
- 16:09Speaker 2: the Eagles win is because of Jalen Carter. And if
- 16:12Speaker 2: they're going to go all the way, it's going to
- 16:13Speaker 2: be when Aaron Donald carried the Rams to a Super Bowl.
- 16:16Speaker 2: He's the exact kind of player.
- 16:18Speaker 3: Right now, Paul, he's 11th in defensive player of the
- 16:20Speaker 3: year odds because all the pass rushers are ahead of him.
- 16:22Speaker 3: I'm telling you right now, he's better than all of
- 16:24Speaker 3: these players. Abdul Carter's ahead of him.
- 16:26Speaker 2: Trey Hendrickson. Daniil Hunter. No way. He affects every single play.
- 16:31Speaker 4: So I think this warm take as a headline is
- 16:33Speaker 4: one of those that blow people's hair back. But you're
- 16:35Speaker 4: an educated sports guy, and you know how it really
- 16:37Speaker 4: works in the NFL. But the problem is with Jalen Carter,
- 16:40Speaker 4: he doesn't have sack numbers. If he somehow had 11 sacks,
- 16:43Speaker 4: he would win this award. I think the most he's
- 16:45Speaker 4: had is four and a half sacks in his career.
- 16:47Speaker 4: But you're right. He pushes the entire backfield back. It
- 16:50Speaker 4: reminds me of prime Haloti Nada. I don't know Haloti
- 16:53Speaker 4: Nada's sack totals. But I remember watching Haloti Nada and saying,
- 16:56Speaker 4: he's always in the backfield. They can't do anything against him.
- 16:58Speaker 4: And the rest of the defense benefits from that. Zach
- 17:00Speaker 4: Vaughn and all the linebackers. So I love this take.
- 17:03Speaker 4: He can't win MVP. He can't win defensive MVP because
- 17:06Speaker 4: not enough, it's almost like you want people to go
- 17:09Speaker 4: deeper into the process and they usually just go, who's
- 17:11Speaker 4: got the most sacks?
- 17:12Speaker 3: So I did some stats here. MVP, the last one
- 17:15Speaker 3: to win was obviously Lawrence Taylor in defense. The only
- 17:17Speaker 3: guy who's come close is your friend, J.J. Watt, who
- 17:20Speaker 3: had about 20 sacks one season. Got 14 votes, came
- 17:24Speaker 3: in second place to Aaron Rodgers. The most recent vote,
- 17:26Speaker 3: Miles Garrett got one vote in 2023.
- 17:28Speaker 2: All sack numbers.
- 17:30Speaker 3: That's why I'm arguing right now the best player on
- 17:32Speaker 3: the field can be a defensive tackle. By the way,
- 17:34Speaker 3: Dexter Lawrence isn't far behind in Cincinnati. But Jalen Carter,
- 17:37Speaker 3: to me, is just the man.
- 17:39Speaker 4: Well, I think what could help your case, if you
- 17:40Speaker 4: did some type of poll out there and asked assistant coaches,
- 17:43Speaker 4: defensive coordinators, defensive line coaches, who would they want to
- 17:46Speaker 4: start their team with? They might not take a rush end.
- 17:48Speaker 4: It's harder to find a Jalen Carter. It's harder to
- 17:50Speaker 4: find a Chris Jones than it is a good defensive end.
- 17:52Speaker 2: Also, intimidation. I'm serious. He's intimidating.
- 17:56Speaker 4: All right, let's go. We're going to pull the bandaid
- 17:58Speaker 4: on this one. This is the end of the NC
- 18:00Speaker 4: State Vandy game. If you haven't seen it, you don't
- 18:02Speaker 4: own a phone and you're not on social media. Now,
- 18:04Speaker 4: this is one of those plays where, let's watch it
- 18:06Speaker 4: one more time.
- 18:07Speaker 2: You roll right.
- 18:08Speaker 4: You take a knee. Oh, you almost took a knee. No,
- 18:10Speaker 4: you fumbled right into the hands of a surprised Vanderbilt defender.
- 18:15Speaker 4: And he just falls on the ball and they win
- 18:16Speaker 4: the game. As unlikely a win as you can get. Now,
- 18:19Speaker 4: here's the thing. NC State football is kind of middle
- 18:21Speaker 4: of the road. They're never that good and they're never
- 18:23Speaker 4: that bad. They don't have a lot of star players.
- 18:26Speaker 4: They live in the shadow of other SEC teams, even
- 18:28Speaker 4: ACC teams. Now you have sports immortality. You have one
- 18:32Speaker 4: of the most impossible losses in sports history, not just
- 18:37Speaker 4: college football. This will be a cautionary tale. Whenever a
- 18:40Speaker 4: game is lost, they'll be like, well, remember the NC
- 18:42Speaker 4: State play where he fumbled in the end zone of Vandy?
- 18:44Speaker 4: This is kind of like Leon Lett for people a
- 18:46Speaker 4: generation ago. If you look that up real quick on YouTube,
- 18:49Speaker 4: you'll know what I mean. But you now have sports
- 18:51Speaker 4: immortality in the wrong way because most people were not watching.
- 18:54Speaker 4: When I say most, I mean all. The end of
- 18:56Speaker 4: NC State versus Vandy. And then everyone said, this can't
- 18:59Speaker 4: be real.
- 19:00Speaker 6: And it was.
- 19:01Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, we're talking the band is on the field,
- 19:03Speaker 3: the miracle, the Meadowlands. Now, the one thing, it's kind
- 19:06Speaker 3: of hard to tell what's going on. The band is
- 19:08Speaker 3: on the field, like when he runs in the tuba player.
- 19:10Speaker 2: Yes. That's still famous 50 years later. I'm not sure
- 19:13Speaker 2: this will last 50 years, but it'll definitely be talked about.
- 19:16Speaker 4: This is a little bit like the end of all
- 19:18Speaker 4: the right moves. Remember Ampipe football, the great high school
- 19:20Speaker 4: team trying to beat Walnut Heights. They had Tom Cruise.
- 19:23Speaker 4: They ran the ball at the end zone, fumbled, lost
- 19:25Speaker 4: the big game. All they had to do was take
- 19:27Speaker 4: a safety and they win. That's the biggest comp.
- 19:29Speaker 2: Was that the early game in All the Right Moves?
- 19:31Speaker 2: That happened in the beginning of the movie, right?
- 19:33Speaker 4: It's kind of in the beginning of the movie. Then
- 19:34Speaker 4: Tom Cruise goes nuts.
- 19:36Speaker 3: I was trying to talk about the miracle of the Meadowlands.
- 19:38Speaker 3: Actually do some serious sports analysis here, Paul.
- 19:40Speaker 2: Okay.
- 19:41Speaker 3: My next warm take is also about the defensive player
- 19:44Speaker 3: of the year. But I am saying Jalen Carter should
- 19:46Speaker 3: be number one. Mother Nature itself is number two. Now,
- 19:49Speaker 3: it's mother nature ever won an award because everyone's wondering
- 19:52Speaker 3: how do we get so much scoring in week one
- 19:55Speaker 3: of the NFL season and then go so.
- 19:57Speaker 2: Drastically the other way. If you watch the games, you
- 19:59Speaker 2: know exactly why.
- 20:01Speaker 3: If you have any takeaway from Chicago, Minnesota in that rain,
- 20:04Speaker 3: you are fooling yourselves.
- 20:06Speaker 2: Guys could not get their footing. They could not catch
- 20:09Speaker 2: the football. Uh, I know everyone's killing Aaron Rodgers for
- 20:11Speaker 2: what happened in New England. Guess what?
- 20:14Speaker 3: The Steelers receivers could not catch the football. Raven Saints. Meanwhile,
- 20:19Speaker 3: Eagles Titans was hot. But the one that was totally
- 20:22Speaker 3: crazy was the Bucks and the Browns.
- 20:24Speaker 2: Free storm. Fine. Whatever happened there counts.
- 20:28Speaker 3: After the storm, they basically tried to play two minutes
- 20:30Speaker 3: of football on a sponge.
- 20:32Speaker 4: That was biblical.
- 20:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, when did we have this many weather delays?
- 20:36Speaker 2: But I'm telling you right now, do not read into
- 20:38Speaker 2: week two. Even Aaron Rodgers. I know everyone's killing Aaron Rodgers.
- 20:41Speaker 2: Guess what? The rain had a huge part in that game.
- 20:44Speaker 4: Okay, Pearl, I'm going to agree with you that the
- 20:46Speaker 4: rain caused all the low scoring, all the messes on
- 20:48Speaker 4: the field. But some fan bases, I have friends who
- 20:50Speaker 4: are Bears fans say, well, it was the rain. It
- 20:52Speaker 4: was the weather conditions that kept us from scoring. The
- 20:55Speaker 4: other team played in the same conditions. It wasn't sunny
- 20:57Speaker 4: when the Vikings had the ball or when the opposition.
- 20:59Speaker 1: Had the ball.
- 20:59Speaker 2: No, I know. People hate when I talk about weather
- 21:01Speaker 2: and games. They're like, that's no excuse. That's fine. But
- 21:04Speaker 2: don't think that Caleb Williams, next time he plays.
- 21:06Speaker 3: which might be week three, despite that major hamstring injury.
- 21:10Speaker 3: Don't think that's the kind of quarterback you're going to get.
- 21:12Speaker 3: Ben Johnson and that offense still could be prolific. But
- 21:15Speaker 3: I know there are going to be analysts out there
- 21:16Speaker 3: who say they scored three points. They're all hype. That's
- 21:19Speaker 3: not true. It was disgusting on Sunday.
- 21:21Speaker 4: And later we got to talk about grade one hamstring.
- 21:24Speaker 2: Is that better?
- 21:25Speaker 4: You want a grade one, a two, or a three?
- 21:26Speaker 4: Because I think one would be great because, hey, I
- 21:28Speaker 4: got the best hamstring strain, not the worst.
- 21:30Speaker 2: By the way... I can't even get into that.
- 21:33Speaker 3: Tampa Bay, would you have stuck around if you were
- 21:35Speaker 3: a fan after that weather that was coming out?
- 21:37Speaker 2: It looked like a hurricane and lightning and everything.
- 21:39Speaker 4: I don't think I would have gone in the first place.
- 21:40Speaker 4: All right, not so fast. Pabst and Perloff, let's have
- 21:42Speaker 4: a little game here. This is called Not So Bad,
- 21:46Speaker 4: Not So Good, Week 2 NFL Season. Let's go, how
- 21:49Speaker 4: about first, let's go Not So Bad, a team that
- 21:52Speaker 4: we're not really going to coronate, but it went pretty well.
- 21:55Speaker 4: Let's go to Cleveland Browns and Deshaun Watson. Deshaun Watson,
- 21:58Speaker 4: two touchdowns, 238 yards passing. And it's a good day
- 22:02Speaker 4: for the Cleveland Browns. Or was it, Perloff?
- 22:05Speaker 2: Oh, it's definitely a good day.
- 22:06Speaker 3: And not so bad because we're used to the Browns
- 22:08Speaker 3: being bad. So this was not so bad.
- 22:10Speaker 4: But what if you're a fan of the Browns who's
- 22:12Speaker 4: not a fan of Deshaun Watson and wants him benched?
- 22:15Speaker 4: This was the game for him to lose against the
- 22:17Speaker 4: team that has Baker Mayfield. It was all set for
- 22:20Speaker 4: this to be the benching game for Deshaun Watson. And
- 22:21Speaker 4: now he's a starting quarterback until he gives it up.
- 22:24Speaker 3: I don't think any fans are saying that right now
- 22:26Speaker 3: because a win must feel so good for Cleveland. It's
- 22:28Speaker 3: been a long time. And it's not like you have
- 22:31Speaker 3: a number one pick. Shador is kind of iffy, too, especially.
- 22:34Speaker 2: In that offense.
- 22:34Speaker 3: One thing about Deshaun Watson, great numbers. I don't think
- 22:37Speaker 3: he threw the ball more than three yards in the
- 22:38Speaker 3: air the entire game.
- 22:39Speaker 4: Maybe he should do that more often.
- 22:41Speaker 3: Yeah, but I think defense is going to adjust. You've
- 22:43Speaker 3: got to be able to throw the ball downfield. So
- 22:45Speaker 3: it was not so bad.
- 22:46Speaker 2: I'll give you that.
- 22:46Speaker 4: All right, let's go to not so good, and it's
- 22:48Speaker 4: a tie for not so good. Steelers and Falcons. You
- 22:52Speaker 4: mentioned the Steelers. It just looked unthreatening. The Aaron Rodgers,
- 22:55Speaker 4: is that a situation yet or just a bad week?
- 22:58Speaker 3: Well, we saw a lot of this last year with
- 23:00Speaker 3: the Steelers, too, where Aaron Rodgers just dropped.
- 23:02Speaker 2: Backs and gets destroyed.
- 23:04Speaker 3: He can't really move at this stage of his career.
- 23:07Speaker 3: They can't run the ball and they can't protect. So
- 23:09Speaker 3: I know Aaron Rodgers played poorly. But the whole team
- 23:12Speaker 3: played poorly. I think this was a bit of an anomaly.
- 23:15Speaker 2: Bad weather. New England was coming off a loss, had
- 23:17Speaker 2: 10 days of rest.
- 23:18Speaker 3: This is one of those games I would not judge
- 23:20Speaker 3: too harshly, although I am hearing people saying this is
- 23:23Speaker 3: it for Aaron Rodgers.
- 23:24Speaker 2: He should retire. But this is the same Rodgers we've
- 23:26Speaker 2: seen the last two years.
- 23:27Speaker 4: Before we break, not so good. Is that a compliment
- 23:29Speaker 4: for what's going on with the Falcons right now?
- 23:31Speaker 2: Oh, my God. Did you see the stat?
- 23:35Speaker 3: They're the only team in many, many decades not to
- 23:37Speaker 3: have a red zone drive in the first two games.
- 23:39Speaker 4: They're quarterbacks combined for a quarterback rating of 28.3. It's
- 23:42Speaker 4: like the SATs. I think you get 400 for signing
- 23:44Speaker 4: your name.
- 23:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, headline, they have lots of primetime games
- 23:48Speaker 2: coming up. I believe that the league can flex out
- 23:51Speaker 2: of their week five game. Which is a good thing.
- 23:53Speaker 2: But Michael Penix is coming back. I don't know. There's
- 23:57Speaker 2: got to be some silver lining because right now that
- 23:59Speaker 2: is bad football.
- 23:59Speaker 4: That is not so good. Coming up next, a lot
- 24:01Speaker 4: more coming up. College football. SEC Network's host Peter Burns
- 24:05Speaker 4: on Ole Miss versus LSU and the rest of the
- 24:07Speaker 4: season coming up for the SEC. Stick around. Not so fast.
- 24:10Speaker 2: All right. Welcome back. Not so fast. Perloff Paps. After
- 24:14Speaker 2: this weekend, we had to talk to our good buddy,
- 24:16Speaker 2: Peter Burns, SEC Network anchor. Peter, I understand you were
- 24:20Speaker 2: down in Mississippi. Is it me or do people in
- 24:24Speaker 2: Mississippi have an issue with Lane Kiffin?
- 24:27Speaker 5: Um it's slight it's a slight thing people were talking
- 24:30Speaker 5: about it but my god it was so amazing down
- 24:32Speaker 5: there you could just tell throughout the entire week like
- 24:35Speaker 5: there was this animosity of lane and this homecoming guys
- 24:39Speaker 5: and every single day it would ratchet up and then
- 24:42Speaker 5: arguably it gave us one of the best pre-game and
- 24:45Speaker 5: ultimately post-game environments i can remember in college football history
- 24:48Speaker 5: i mean that place was on fire from start.
- 24:50Speaker 4: To finish Peter, it felt like an all-day saga. I
- 24:53Speaker 4: got up early to watch game day, to watch your channel,
- 24:55Speaker 4: to watch anywhere, and I wanted to see more about Lane,
- 24:58Speaker 4: more about the game. Getting to the game, there was
- 25:00Speaker 4: a point where it looked like Ole Miss was handling them.
- 25:02Speaker 4: It was like, not a blowout, but borderline blowout. And
- 25:05Speaker 4: then LSU made it saucy. What did you think was
- 25:07Speaker 4: going to happen when the fourth quarter started?
- 25:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, chaos. I mean, right?
- 25:11Speaker 5: I mean, it was 17-0, and frankly, you know, probably
- 25:16Speaker 5: when you talked about the environment, that had everything to
- 25:19Speaker 5: do with Ole Miss getting that lead, right? Ole Miss
- 25:22Speaker 5: was kind of like just chill. Pete Golden did a
- 25:24Speaker 5: good job of getting those guys ready to go, and
- 25:25Speaker 5: they were ready. Lane Kiffin's LSU Tigers looked jumpy, right?
- 25:29Speaker 5: That was the issue that they had. And Trinidad Chambliss
- 25:32Speaker 5: ended up having a huge drive right before half.
- 25:35Speaker 1: That made it 24-17. But then LSU answers the bell.
- 25:37Speaker 1: They come up. And I tweeted this in the middle
- 25:40Speaker 1: of the fourth.
- 25:40Speaker 5: Quarter going, One of two things that are going to happen,
- 25:43Speaker 5: and Oxford is going to melt down. Either Lane Kiffin
- 25:47Speaker 5: is going to come from behind from 17 points, and
- 25:50Speaker 5: who knows what the hell is going to happen as
- 25:52Speaker 5: he's walking off if they win, or Trinidad Chambliss, who
- 25:55Speaker 5: looks like the best college football quarterback that we've had
- 25:58Speaker 5: in a long time, is going to win, and Oxford
- 26:00Speaker 5: might still burn down.
- 26:02Speaker 1: And all of those things happen.
- 26:03Speaker 5: I mean, listen, Perloff, even as famous as you are,
- 26:06Speaker 5: it would have still cost you $ 200 to get into
- 26:08Speaker 5: the library that night post-game.
- 26:10Speaker 4: You know, Pete, I almost wanted like an alternate ending,
- 26:12Speaker 4: like a movie. And what you just said there, I
- 26:14Speaker 4: want to know what Lane Kiffin was going to do
- 26:16Speaker 4: if he won it at the buzzer. He's going to
- 26:17Speaker 4: take his clothes off and streak the quad like Will Ferrell.
- 26:20Speaker 5: We're going up streaking to the quad, up to the gymnasium,
- 26:24Speaker 5: and they'll get some KFC on the way home.
- 26:25Speaker 1: I mean, who knows? I mean, like, I always want.
- 26:28Speaker 5: To go through people's Twitter accounts and read the drafts
- 26:31Speaker 5: that they almost.
- 26:32Speaker 1: Wrote, right?
- 26:33Speaker 5: Because you know, I guarantee you, like, the LSU social
- 26:36Speaker 5: media team had something cooking. Like, they were going to
- 26:39Speaker 5: drop just a banger of a video or a graphic
- 26:43Speaker 5: if they had won that game. And then Pete Golding
- 26:46Speaker 5: at Ole Miss, I guess we'll never know.
- 26:48Speaker 1: We'll never know.
- 26:49Speaker 3: I saw a headline today. Is Trinidad Chambliss the number
- 26:52Speaker 3: one pick in the NFL draft? Now, he's obviously older,
- 26:55Speaker 3: coming out of Ferris State. You said he's the best
- 26:58Speaker 3: college football player we've seen in a while.
- 27:00Speaker 2: Is he also going to be a possible top five
- 27:03Speaker 2: NFL pick?
- 27:04Speaker 5: You know, it's crazy because I do think so, because
- 27:08Speaker 5: there is a winning mentality. And Drew Brees had that
- 27:11Speaker 5: winning mentality of a guy that really kind of took
- 27:14Speaker 5: it to the next level that.
- 27:15Speaker 1: Wasn't six foot three, right?
- 27:17Speaker 5: If you think quarterbacks, you're going to think probably Arch
- 27:19Speaker 5: Manning's build or Lenore Sellers or Kamario Taylor, who's going
- 27:22Speaker 5: to be a stud for Mississippi State in a couple
- 27:24Speaker 5: of years. But Trinidad's not that guy. But if you
- 27:27Speaker 5: spend time with them, how good of his head's on
- 27:30Speaker 5: his shoulders and he's a great kid. But here's the
- 27:32Speaker 5: big thing. Last year we saw Trinidad got thrust into
- 27:36Speaker 5: the opening or the starting lineup out of necessity because
- 27:39Speaker 5: Austin Simmons got banged up.
- 27:40Speaker 1: So he was kind of freelancing all year long. This
- 27:43Speaker 1: was the first time that he's had a.
- 27:45Speaker 5: Full offseason as the starter and they can game plan
- 27:48Speaker 5: to him. And I think that was the big difference
- 27:50Speaker 5: maker and why ultimately Ole Miss won that football game.
- 27:53Speaker 2: Peter, why did you tell Paul and I about Kamario Taylor?
- 27:56Speaker 2: We had no idea coming into this season.
- 27:58Speaker 5: Listen, because everybody at Mississippi State was like, shh, shh,
- 28:02Speaker 5: don't tell us because everybody will start sending him, you know,
- 28:05Speaker 5: the $ 5 million that they spent for Sam Leavitt. They'll
- 28:08Speaker 5: try to get a Camario Taylor in the transfer portal.
- 28:11Speaker 5: But he's a bigger, better, faster version than Dak Prescott.
- 28:15Speaker 5: And that's scary to think about on a collegiate level.
- 28:19Speaker 1: And he's a Mississippi guy. So I think, you know,
- 28:21Speaker 1: fingers crossed he stays there for a while. I'll tell
- 28:23Speaker 1: you what, had LSU had Camario Taylor, they'd win that game.
- 28:26Speaker 2: In Oxford.
- 28:26Speaker 4: That's a great point. And Cameron Taylor, I saw a
- 28:29Speaker 4: comparison to Cam Newton, which is awkward because the Cam Newton,
- 28:32Speaker 4: the Mississippi State, the bag of cash. So we won't
- 28:36Speaker 4: go there. I want to go with the SEC overall.
- 28:39Speaker 4: Florida looks pretty good. Bama, I don't know what you
- 28:42Speaker 4: think of how they look because different points, they look different. Texas,
- 28:45Speaker 4: all those teams. Is there a heavyweight right now?
- 28:47Speaker 2: Is it Georgia?
- 28:48Speaker 4: Is there a heavyweight in the SEC right now?
- 28:50Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I think Georgia is there. I mean,
- 28:53Speaker 1: they haven't played.
- 28:54Speaker 5: They played two unranked opponents within Arkansas.
- 28:57Speaker 1: So they kind of just took care of business. We'll
- 28:58Speaker 1: see a little bit more against Oklahoma this weekend.
- 29:00Speaker 5: And John Mateer and that crew I thought was really
- 29:02Speaker 5: going to take the next step have almost regressed. So
- 29:06Speaker 5: I still think it's Georgia. Texas, of course, because I
- 29:09Speaker 5: think Ohio State's really good. So I think those are
- 29:11Speaker 5: both two college football playoff contenders there. And I think Alabama,
- 29:15Speaker 5: if they can figure out the defense a little bit,
- 29:17Speaker 5: they could potentially be, I don't know of a national
- 29:19Speaker 5: championship team, but a college football playoff team. And now
- 29:23Speaker 5: we're going to have an elimination game really this weekend
- 29:25Speaker 5: already in week four guys to where A & M
- 29:28Speaker 5: and Marcel Reed taking on LSU and Sam Leavitt. Like
- 29:32Speaker 5: it's almost like a, which quarterback do you trust the
- 29:34Speaker 5: least matchup?
- 29:36Speaker 2: Peter, how do you evaluate Arch Manning's year so far? Strong.
- 29:41Speaker 5: I mean, again, his entire first part of his career
- 29:46Speaker 5: was like the first half of the Ohio State-Texas game.
- 29:50Speaker 5: So much hype, so much pomp and circumstance and nothing.
- 29:54Speaker 5: And then all of a sudden, when almost like the
- 29:55Speaker 5: pressure is off, then all of a sudden he just
- 29:57Speaker 5: balls out in place. That's what we saw in the
- 29:59Speaker 5: second half for Arch for the Longhorns. And I think
- 30:02Speaker 5: that we're sawing it. But that was the first time, guys,
- 30:05Speaker 5: that Texas looked more like an F-350 diesel dually. like,
- 30:11Speaker 5: bowling over people than a Lamborghini Ferrari, right? And Stark
- 30:14Speaker 5: always wants to be kind of, oh, we'll trick you. No,
- 30:17Speaker 5: punch him in the mouth, and Texas finally has a
- 30:19Speaker 5: DNA that they haven't had probably since, I mean, what,
- 30:22Speaker 5: Vince Young days when they won a title.
- 30:24Speaker 4: I know we had to get you out of here
- 30:25Speaker 4: in a couple minutes, but LSU, tough loss. You know,
- 30:28Speaker 4: I want Lane Kiffin and LSU to be in the playoffs,
- 30:31Speaker 4: not because I'm rooting, just because of the baggage that
- 30:34Speaker 4: he brings, both good, bad, and ugly. You're a TV host.
- 30:37Speaker 4: You're a TV producer. You want them... When you look
- 30:39Speaker 4: at LSU, the chances for them to get back, right
- 30:42Speaker 4: the ship, and get in the national championship picture?
- 30:45Speaker 5: It's going to be tough right now because you lose
- 30:46Speaker 5: Tredez Green, and I'm not sold that Sam Levitt's that guy.
- 30:49Speaker 5: And so my question is, hey, is Lane going to
- 30:53Speaker 5: take a step back and realize this is a team
- 30:55Speaker 5: or this is all about Lane? Because so far it's
- 30:57Speaker 5: been all about Lane right now, which other teams can,
- 31:00Speaker 5: I mean, your respective team can ride the coattails of that.
- 31:04Speaker 1: Look at Ole Miss.
- 31:05Speaker 5: Ole Miss wouldn't have the success right now if Lane
- 31:07Speaker 5: Kiffin hadn't been there. I mean, it was almost like
- 31:09Speaker 5: Lane Kiffin on Saturday night looked at it as like
- 31:12Speaker 5: we look at AI and technology right now. Like, I've
- 31:15Speaker 5: created this monster, and then now it's come to destroy me,
- 31:18Speaker 5: and I can't end it. Like, Trinidad Chambliss, Kiwan Lacey,
- 31:21Speaker 5: the home-filled environment, the red shirting of Miss America is
- 31:25Speaker 5: down there at the library. I mean, it is everything,
- 31:29Speaker 5: and it's like, all right, I just handed it.
- 31:31Speaker 1: To Pete Golding, and now he's going to take it.
- 31:34Speaker 3: Peter, take me back to Saturday, the end of Vandy
- 31:36Speaker 3: NC State. I can't even imagine how you guys handled that.
- 31:40Speaker 5: Bro, I mean, we were in the studio, and all
- 31:42Speaker 5: of a sudden, everybody starts running around, and that's Benjamin Watson, right?
- 31:45Speaker 1: For the Patriots and the Saints and the Georgia Bulldogs. Like,
- 31:48Speaker 1: are you kidding me?
- 31:49Speaker 5: We're like, this could not have been any– I don't–
- 31:52Speaker 5: I mean, there's 3,600 seconds in a college football game.
- 31:57Speaker 1: Vanderbilt led– for one of them.
- 32:00Speaker 2: That's one.
- 32:01Speaker 1: And think about this, right?
- 32:03Speaker 5: It was not only did they get the game-winning return
- 32:07Speaker 5: for a touchdown, which all he had to do was
- 32:09Speaker 5: Dan Orlowski this in the back of the end zone
- 32:11Speaker 5: and the game's over, but ACC officials put one second
- 32:16Speaker 5: left on the clock, which meant Vanderbilt had to kick
- 32:19Speaker 5: the extra point, which means it ended up having Vanderbilt
- 32:24Speaker 5: covering the three and a half like that that's the
- 32:26Speaker 5: worst bad beat in the history of bad beats maybe
- 32:29Speaker 5: in all of mankind by the way.
- 32:30Speaker 4: Pete you're crushing the references in this segment by the
- 32:32Speaker 4: way we're keeping track all right before we get you
- 32:34Speaker 4: out of here we do a thing such thing as
- 32:36Speaker 4: a bad question you know sec tailgates i know them
- 32:39Speaker 4: pretty well if i were a newbie to an sec
- 32:42Speaker 4: tailgate what do you recommend as breakfast do you go
- 32:45Speaker 4: right to the tailgate or do you go bojangles for
- 32:48Speaker 4: a base coat first your thoughts peter.
- 32:50Speaker 1: No, no, no, no. Bojangles, that's in the ACC world.
- 32:53Speaker 5: We're going to get you kind of like some biscuits
- 32:56Speaker 5: and gravy or something like that. We got to get
- 32:59Speaker 5: a solid base going because you're drinking all day long.
- 33:02Speaker 5: You got to have like the Z-biotics where like the pre-alcohol.
- 33:05Speaker 1: Drinks to get you going.
- 33:06Speaker 2: Wow.
- 33:07Speaker 5: A lot of water, some Pedialyte right there, and basically
- 33:11Speaker 5: a rosary because if I bring you guys down to
- 33:13Speaker 5: an SEC tailgate— You hold on for dear life, boys.
- 33:18Speaker 1: You guys are Northerners.
- 33:19Speaker 5: We've got to get you down to the South like
- 33:20Speaker 5: that article you wrote of all the Northerners coming down
- 33:24Speaker 5: right there and experiencing the SEC living.
- 33:26Speaker 4: You won't have to twist our arm hard.
- 33:27Speaker 2: Peter, it's not if you get us down. It's when
- 33:29Speaker 2: you get us down. Appreciate the time. Keep the drama
- 33:31Speaker 2: going in the SEC.
- 33:32Speaker 4: See you, boys.
- 33:34Speaker 2: Wow. Well, I'm ready. I'm ready. I think I can
- 33:37Speaker 2: do this. I have a strong base. You know, I
- 33:39Speaker 2: don't drink as much as the average tailgater, but I
- 33:41Speaker 2: can be a good time.
- 33:42Speaker 4: I've been to a couple of SEC, probably five SEC tailgates.
- 33:45Speaker 4: And I do recommend like a big biscuit and gravy
- 33:47Speaker 4: breakfast to really solidify your midsection. And then you start
- 33:50Speaker 4: drinking and eating other things. Northern, more brats and onions. Southern,
- 33:55Speaker 4: a lot more rich foods and seafood, baby.
- 33:57Speaker 2: All right.
- 33:57Speaker 3: Well, I'm going to have to stop you there because
- 33:59Speaker 3: you'll go on all day.
- 34:00Speaker 2: All right.
- 34:00Speaker 3: Coming up next, Louis Riddick has some strong comments on
- 34:03Speaker 3: the Steelers. If you're a Pittsburgh fan, you're not going
- 34:05Speaker 3: to like them.
- 34:06Speaker 2: That's next. Not so fast.
- 34:11Speaker 1: The worst loss on Sunday was turned in by?
- 34:15Speaker 2: Probably Pittsburgh.
- 34:16Speaker 7: Because they went up there, and I'll tell you what,
- 34:19Speaker 7: Pittsburgh looks like they could be in trouble, Trump. Because
- 34:22Speaker 7: starting at the quarterback spot, I mean, as much as
- 34:25Speaker 7: we all respect and love Aaron, I just don't feel
- 34:28Speaker 7: as though, well, one, they can't run the football with
- 34:29Speaker 7: any kind of effectiveness to keep the pressure off of him.
- 34:32Speaker 7: And the passing game is just so wildly inconsistent. But
- 34:37Speaker 7: I think it really showed you yesterday, I think, that
- 34:41Speaker 7: that team, as much as I love that city and
- 34:45Speaker 7: love that organization and love everything that has to do
- 34:47Speaker 7: with Pittsburgh, I really do think that that could have
- 34:49Speaker 7: been a sign of what's to come for this football
- 34:51Speaker 7: team down the road.
- 34:53Speaker 4: Back on Not So Fast, Pabst and Perloff. That's Louis
- 34:55Speaker 4: Riddick of the Mothership joining us, and he's one of
- 34:58Speaker 4: our favorite guests. When he says the Steelers could be
- 35:00Speaker 4: in trouble trouble, what does that.
- 35:01Speaker 3: Mean to you?
- 35:03Speaker 2: Actually, I'm not quite sure because I guess like 5-12,
- 35:06Speaker 2: are we talking about that?
- 35:07Speaker 4: I think that's what he means because we can't picture that.
- 35:09Speaker 4: In our lifetime, the Steelers are almost always like nine
- 35:12Speaker 4: wins plus and a competitive, never embarrassing team.
- 35:16Speaker 3: Well, I think the Steelers always find their level, which
- 35:18Speaker 3: is 10-7. They've been 10-7 for about eight years. Now,
- 35:22Speaker 3: I know everyone's burying them right now, but.
- 35:24Speaker 2: You look at the schedule. Show me where their major underdogs.
- 35:27Speaker 2: They play Cincinnati this weekend. Cincinnati looks great.
- 35:29Speaker 3: If Mike Tomlin was still the coach... I would guarantee
- 35:32Speaker 3: the Steelers win that game. They always win that game.
- 35:35Speaker 3: That's what the Steelers do. They take an AFC North
- 35:37Speaker 3: team that looks hot.
- 35:38Speaker 2: They look bad. Then they come back and they're a
- 35:40Speaker 2: different team the next week.
- 35:41Speaker 4: So you're pumping the brakes.
- 35:42Speaker 2: I'm pumping the brakes.
- 35:43Speaker 3: Honestly, I thought New England was super fired up for
- 35:45Speaker 3: this game. I think that the Steelers actually go into
- 35:47Speaker 3: their Week 9 bye.
- 35:49Speaker 2: With a little momentum.
- 35:50Speaker 3: I think they're about a 500 team, Paul. So I
- 35:52Speaker 3: say that, and that doesn't sound crazy. Is that trouble trouble?
- 35:56Speaker 3: I don't know what that means. What did we expect?
- 35:58Speaker 4: I guess the trouble trouble would mean Aaron Rodgers gets
- 36:00Speaker 4: really beat up. They have to go to Mason Rudolph.
- 36:03Speaker 4: They're out of the playoff picture before Thanksgiving. And then
- 36:05Speaker 4: you've got to test out other quarterbacks.
- 36:07Speaker 3: I don't think that happens. I think the upcoming schedule, Cleveland, Indianapolis.
- 36:12Speaker 3: At Tampa Bay, it doesn't look hard anymore. New Orleans
- 36:15Speaker 3: comes to Pittsburgh. And I don't care how Tyler Shuck
- 36:17Speaker 3: is playing. Steelers are going to be favored in that
- 36:20Speaker 3: one and Cleveland again. So they have to be, what,
- 36:22Speaker 3: 3-6 before you pull Rodgers? And he was getting demolished
- 36:26Speaker 3: like that last year, and he just sort of takes
- 36:27Speaker 3: a punishment.
- 36:28Speaker 2: Nobody can catch the ball. That's a bit of a problem.
- 36:30Speaker 2: DK Metcalf cannot catch a football. That worries me more
- 36:34Speaker 2: than Aaron Rodgers.
- 36:35Speaker 4: All right, last night, Sunday Night Football on NBC. Really
- 36:37Speaker 4: fun game, Colts versus the Chiefs. And at the end,
- 36:40Speaker 4: there was a weird play with Laquan Treadwell where he
- 36:42Speaker 4: caught it. Did he not catch it? Did the Chiefs
- 36:44Speaker 4: win it? Did they not win it? And Patrick Mahomes,
- 36:46Speaker 4: the star quarterback, talked about that after the game.
- 36:48Speaker 8: I'm actually kind of glad because I didn't want to
- 36:52Speaker 8: see Twitter's reaction if they would have called it a fumble.
- 36:55Speaker 8: So we got to prove it the right way, get
- 36:57Speaker 8: the stop there, and then go back out there and
- 36:59Speaker 8: get a field goal. So there was different times every
- 37:02Speaker 8: part of the team had to put their impact on
- 37:04Speaker 8: the game. That's what you want, a full team game
- 37:06Speaker 8: and a full team win.
- 37:07Speaker 4: Yeah, I go back to that play again. We talked
- 37:09Speaker 4: about it at the top of the show and not
- 37:11Speaker 4: so fast. Giving the ball back to Patrick Mahomes. It's
- 37:13Speaker 4: something I never want to do. I'd rather lose at
- 37:15Speaker 4: my own hand and try that fourth and eight if
- 37:17Speaker 4: I'm the Colts than to let Mahomes take another look.
- 37:20Speaker 2: At the ball. Yeah, but fourth and eight, what if
- 37:22Speaker 2: it's just an incomplete pass? Then what are we talking about?
- 37:25Speaker 4: That you gave it a shot and you didn't give
- 37:26Speaker 4: it back to the guy.
- 37:28Speaker 2: Fourth and one is giving it a shot. Fourth and
- 37:30Speaker 2: eight is a suicide mission.
- 37:33Speaker 4: Him having the ball, to me, it's like you can
- 37:34Speaker 4: start packing up and going home. If I was a
- 37:36Speaker 4: Colts fan and Mahomes got the ball back, I'm not
- 37:38Speaker 4: saying I turned the TV off, but I put it
- 37:40Speaker 4: on that sleep mode thing.
- 37:41Speaker 3: You have a lot of faith in Daniel Jones, the
- 37:43Speaker 3: Colts quarterback, to make a play there. The Chiefs were
- 37:46Speaker 3: obviously going to protect the first down line. That was
- 37:48Speaker 3: an almost impossible situation. Isn't it amazing, by the way?
- 37:51Speaker 3: We haven't talked about it.
- 37:51Speaker 2: Patrick Mahomes is fully back. Yes. 382 yards passing.
- 37:55Speaker 4: That's a good point. He was running well.
- 37:57Speaker 2: He looked smooth. Yeah. Travis Kelsey, all of a sudden,
- 37:59Speaker 2: over 100 yards. And then they have this added element
- 38:02Speaker 2: of Ken Walker, who can catch the ball.
- 38:04Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 38:05Speaker 2: Collins Rosetta, he's like, I didn't know Ken Walker catch
- 38:07Speaker 2: the ball there.
- 38:08Speaker 4: Six catches.
- 38:08Speaker 2: They are dangerous. All right.
- 38:09Speaker 3: The Browns upset the Bucs yesterday, and Coach Todd Munkin
- 38:12Speaker 3: fired back at his haters.
- 38:14Speaker 6: A couple scuffles Wednesday, which is good. That's awesome. Because
- 38:19Speaker 6: guys didn't like it.
- 38:20Speaker 2: Right?
- 38:21Speaker 6: They're a little pissed off.
- 38:22Speaker 2: Right?
- 38:23Speaker 6: You ought to be a little pissed off. Played awful.
- 38:26Speaker 6: That wasn't the standard. Browns are going to Browns. That. Okay?
- 38:33Speaker 1: So.
- 38:33Speaker 6: But the guys took that to heart. Thank you.
- 38:37Speaker 4: First of all, he sounds like Luke or Owen Wilson.
- 38:39Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, we're going to win.
- 38:41Speaker 4: You know what? You've got to take your shot when
- 38:42Speaker 4: you win. The Browns don't win that often. He's talking
- 38:45Speaker 4: about Mike Tomlin saying the Browns are going to Brown,
- 38:48Speaker 4: and he got his shot back.
- 38:49Speaker 2: Yeah, I love Tom Munkin.
- 38:51Speaker 3: I've been rooting for him all summer because he's in
- 38:53Speaker 3: the hardest situation. Lost his voice around July 23rd. Sounds
- 38:56Speaker 3: like Tom Izzo.
- 38:57Speaker 2: Yeah, he's great. Had a really good game plan against
- 39:00Speaker 2: the Bucs, neutralized their pass rush. So he deserves at
- 39:03Speaker 2: least this one week.
- 39:04Speaker 3: To sort of soak up all the good vibes, because
- 39:07Speaker 3: I don't know how many more he's going to get
- 39:08Speaker 3: this year.
- 39:08Speaker 4: Yeah, live it up, coach. All right, another one, a
- 39:10Speaker 4: little payback time. This is the quarterback Jalen Hurts of
- 39:12Speaker 4: the Eagles. Now, he got a little shot from Jeffrey Simmons,
- 39:16Speaker 4: the great defensive tackle of the Titans. Jeffrey Simmons jabbed
- 39:18Speaker 4: him in his media time the other day, and Jalen
- 39:21Speaker 4: Hurts said, I'll take it at the end. Is that
- 39:23Speaker 4: a comment that you heard that mattered to you, and how.
- 39:26Speaker 2: Do you think it responded?
- 39:27Speaker 4: I heard it.
- 39:29Speaker 2: And did it matter to you? I heard it. And
- 39:32Speaker 2: how do you think it responded?
- 39:34Speaker 7: Happily warm.
- 39:36Speaker 2: Boom.
- 39:37Speaker 4: That is smack talk right back by Jalen Hurts. I mean,
- 39:40Speaker 4: that is bang. That's as animated I've ever seen him.
- 39:43Speaker 2: That's a good point. I don't know.
- 39:46Speaker 3: I mean, Jalen Hurts, by the way, was good. I
- 39:49Speaker 3: don't think it was great. He had two picks and
- 39:51Speaker 3: it almost killed him.
- 39:52Speaker 2: This is the Titans. Jalen Hurts is talking trash after
- 39:55Speaker 2: a win over the Titans?
- 39:56Speaker 4: Yeah, that does seem like that's a game where he
- 39:58Speaker 4: didn't really talk trash. He just said, I heard it,
- 40:00Speaker 4: I heard it. He didn't give us much to work
- 40:01Speaker 4: with there.
- 40:02Speaker 2: He is so hard to know.
- 40:04Speaker 3: There was this big feature on him in the magazine
- 40:06Speaker 3: before the season started that basically said, you can't get
- 40:09Speaker 3: to know this guy. I guess that's a good thing.
- 40:10Speaker 3: They got the W, so they're happy. But I don't
- 40:13Speaker 3: want to see you trash-talking the Titans.
- 40:15Speaker 2: Trash-talk the Cowboys.
- 40:17Speaker 4: All right, it is time for the rando. Speaking of
- 40:19Speaker 4: that Eagles-Titans game, they said it was 150-plus degrees on
- 40:23Speaker 4: the field, burning up cleats, all this kind of stuff.
- 40:26Speaker 4: Take a look at this video for the rando. What
- 40:27Speaker 4: is going on here, Perloff?
- 40:30Speaker 2: Okay.
- 40:30Speaker 4: That doesn't seem proper.
- 40:32Speaker 2: So the reality is everybody's cleats were melting. I'm not exaggerating.
- 40:35Speaker 2: That happened. Many players had to change cleats several times.
- 40:38Speaker 4: I thought it was that someone needed a bathroom break
- 40:39Speaker 4: and couldn't go to the port-a-potty.
- 40:41Speaker 2: Yeah. No, that was definitely a water bottle. It's kind
- 40:44Speaker 2: of like, have you ever heard that at the beach
- 40:47Speaker 2: when you get sung by a jellyfish? Yeah. You're supposed
- 40:49Speaker 2: to have your buddy.
- 40:50Speaker 4: And this was not that.
- 40:51Speaker 2: Yeah, this was not that.
- 40:52Speaker 3: This was melting fleets, which is actually kind of strange
- 40:54Speaker 3: in itself.
- 40:55Speaker 2: But I know the visual. You know what? Us mature
- 40:58Speaker 2: people could look into the science of this.
- 41:00Speaker 3: And I'm going to call out 150 degrees on.
- 41:03Speaker 2: The field, 157. 157. That can't be the case.
- 41:06Speaker 4: You're throwing the BS flag?
- 41:08Speaker 2: How can it be 157?
- 41:09Speaker 3: An oven is 157 degrees.
- 41:12Speaker 4: It's like they're playing on hot coals, which I would watch.
- 41:14Speaker 4: I would tune into that if anyone was playing. All right,
- 41:16Speaker 4: coming up next, it's time for, oh, constructive criticism and
- 41:20Speaker 4: the feel-good. Plus, to get you ready for Monday Night Football.
- 41:22Speaker 4: Stick around. Pabst and Perloff, Not So Fast.
- 41:25Speaker 2: Back on Not So Fast. Paul, we have an update.
- 41:28Speaker 3: Ben Johnson, Bears coach, went on ESPN 1000 and said
- 41:32Speaker 3: that quarterback Caleb Williams is week to week after his
- 41:34Speaker 3: hamstring injury at the end of the Vikings game.
- 41:37Speaker 2: He will likely miss some time, according to Ben Johnson.
- 41:40Speaker 3: We have another report out there, Paul, that says that
- 41:42Speaker 3: he could be ready for next week against the Eagles. Obviously,
- 41:46Speaker 3: people are having fun with how dramatically Caleb Williams went
- 41:49Speaker 3: off the field, waving to the crowd, crying.
- 41:51Speaker 4: I would say choked up. More choked up than crying.
- 41:55Speaker 2: It's a weird situation.
- 41:56Speaker 3: Do you want him to miss some time to make
- 41:58Speaker 3: him look better, or do you want him on the
- 42:00Speaker 3: field as fast as possible?
- 42:01Speaker 4: This is the ultimate sports slash social media story, because
- 42:05Speaker 4: Every Bears fan. If you're just like sports, you're happy
- 42:07Speaker 4: that Caleb Williams is healthy because they do, as you
- 42:10Speaker 4: see here, at the Eagles next week and then host
- 42:12Speaker 4: the Eagles, then the Jets, then Green Bay, which is
- 42:15Speaker 4: what every Bear fan wants them to be healthy for.
- 42:17Speaker 4: They do have Tyson Bajent, the nice backup quarterback, who's
- 42:20Speaker 4: considered pretty high end. Young guy has his chance. But
- 42:23Speaker 4: it's one of those things, Caleb Williams, when he talks
- 42:25Speaker 4: to the press next, will he address... his reaction to
- 42:28Speaker 4: his injury and maybe that it wasn't quite as bad
- 42:30Speaker 4: as they thought.
- 42:31Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 42:32Speaker 3: Caleb Williams has always been a little sensitive about the
- 42:34Speaker 3: fact that people think he's sensitive. Remember at USC, he
- 42:37Speaker 3: was crying with his mother and everyone always wondered about
- 42:40Speaker 3: the fingernails.
- 42:42Speaker 2: He just seems to be an odd bird to me.
- 42:44Speaker 2: You follow him pretty closely. What do you think?
- 42:46Speaker 4: Well, again, in the moment, I thought the injury was terrible.
- 42:48Speaker 4: And when you see him with the thing, without making
- 42:50Speaker 4: fun of him, I'm saying in the moment, I thought
- 42:52Speaker 4: this is a terrible, not career ending, but season ending injury.
- 42:56Speaker 4: And then it's not, which is good news, but it
- 42:58Speaker 4: just didn't match at the time.
- 42:59Speaker 2: Yeah, listen, I can relate. I pulled my hamstring about
- 43:01Speaker 2: a thousand times.
- 43:03Speaker 4: Doing what, like reading?
- 43:04Speaker 2: Actually, really badly.
- 43:05Speaker 3: About eight years ago, Dan made the Danettes race in
- 43:09Speaker 3: a 100-yard dash.
- 43:09Speaker 4: I remember that.
- 43:10Speaker 2: Yeah, so it was at a high school track.
- 43:12Speaker 3: I pulled my left hamstring so bad, it affected me
- 43:15Speaker 3: until now, eight years later.
- 43:17Speaker 4: Take that, Caleb Williams, you warrior right there. All right,
- 43:19Speaker 4: let's go. Monday Night Football, really nice game here. Giants, Rams.
- 43:23Speaker 4: Rams kind of got to fix things. Giants have an
- 43:26Speaker 4: opportunity to make a national statement.
- 43:28Speaker 2: Yeah, this is a tough assignment for the Giants.
- 43:30Speaker 3: One thing to do it against Dallas in New York,
- 43:33Speaker 3: going against the Rams, who are really.
- 43:35Speaker 2: Mad about the way Australia played out.
- 43:36Speaker 4: Really mad, but they don't have Miles Garrett, and that's
- 43:39Speaker 4: as big as it gets. And then, you know, they
- 43:41Speaker 4: have Matt Stafford, they got Kyron Williams, they got everyone else.
- 43:43Speaker 4: Who can the coup is if.
- 43:44Speaker 3: He's... Aaron Donald, 30 snaps, so that might make up
- 43:47Speaker 3: for the loss of Garrett. I actually labeled this coming
- 43:50Speaker 3: into the week, Paul, Comeback Weekend, and I thought the Patriots, Chargers,
- 43:55Speaker 3: and Rams are all going to have massive statements after
- 43:58Speaker 3: their week one losses.
- 43:59Speaker 2: Patriots, yes. Chargers, no. I think the Rams will make
- 44:02Speaker 2: a statement here. I think they're going to be fired
- 44:04Speaker 2: up for the Giants.
- 44:04Speaker 4: Are you leaning towards more likely blowout by the Rams,
- 44:07Speaker 4: close win by the Giants?
- 44:09Speaker 3: No, I'm leaning big win for the Rams. I think
- 44:11Speaker 3: that they correct the narrative that they're not. Whatever it
- 44:14Speaker 3: was last week, I think that was Australia. I mean,
- 44:16Speaker 3: I don't want to get back into the travel plans,
- 44:18Speaker 3: but I think that game was total anomaly.
- 44:20Speaker 2: I think the Rams are going to be fired up
- 44:21Speaker 2: for this.
- 44:21Speaker 4: I will take the Giants to cover in a close one,
- 44:23Speaker 4: but I don't think they pull this one off. All right,
- 44:25Speaker 4: it's time here on Not So Fast for a little
- 44:27Speaker 4: constructive criticism. Your thoughts on social media about what we're doing,
- 44:30Speaker 4: maybe what we're not doing. Here we go, Perloff. Here
- 44:32Speaker 4: is the first constructive criticism for you. Here we go.
- 44:37Speaker 1: Okay.
- 44:37Speaker 4: If you need to be an Eagles fan and be
- 44:40Speaker 4: a false 4-0, look at the schedule. I'm an Eagles fan,
- 44:42Speaker 4: but I'm worried.
- 44:43Speaker 2: Yeah. I totally know what you mean, Coach Litz. The
- 44:46Speaker 2: Eagles have not looked great. They beat the Commanders, who
- 44:49Speaker 2: might be terrible, and they beat the Titans, who might
- 44:51Speaker 2: be the number one pick next year. We have no idea.
- 44:54Speaker 3: Titans, they actually made the Titans look good for a
- 44:56Speaker 3: little while. The Eagles have not shown a lot. There
- 44:58Speaker 3: is no doubt about that. Their offense has been inconsistent
- 45:01Speaker 3: under our buddy Sean Mannion, first-year offensive coordinator, friend of
- 45:05Speaker 3: Paps and Perloff.
- 45:06Speaker 4: Okay, it's been iffy. But if you look at this team,
- 45:08Speaker 4: do you trust them?
- 45:09Speaker 2: The A.J.
- 45:10Speaker 4: Brown loss, do they have guys who could replace A.J.
- 45:12Speaker 2: Brown? No.
- 45:14Speaker 3: Devontae Smith, yeah, Devontae Smith's a true number one. He
- 45:17Speaker 3: made an incredible catch on Sunday. No, their offense is
- 45:20Speaker 3: not good.
- 45:20Speaker 4: What do you think?
- 45:21Speaker 2: I mean, you're not as close as I am.
- 45:22Speaker 4: No, I always trust the Eagles. I think they get
- 45:25Speaker 4: a lot of criticism because they've had some seasons, but
- 45:27Speaker 4: they're always in the mix. And the Saquon Barkley injury
- 45:29Speaker 4: the other day, I don't know how serious it is,
- 45:31Speaker 4: but when you see him leave a game, that's one
- 45:33Speaker 4: where I get concerned. Well, if they don't have him,
- 45:35Speaker 4: it's over, John.
- 45:35Speaker 2: He came back with a big neck roll, which we love.
- 45:38Speaker 2: So he didn't play much, but he came back, so
- 45:40Speaker 2: I'm not worried about him.
- 45:41Speaker 4: By necessity. All right, the next one, constructive criticism. Here
- 45:43Speaker 4: we go. Many fans have pushed for the NFL to
- 45:45Speaker 4: add interception caused by receiver. Hello. This is from Jordan Schultz,
- 45:51Speaker 4: an NFL reporter. Is there a perfect example of why
- 45:54Speaker 4: this stat should exist? Yes, there is. For every interception,
- 45:57Speaker 4: there's blame. It could either be the quarterback or the receiver.
- 46:00Speaker 4: Most of the time, it's the quarterback. But look at
- 46:02Speaker 4: this play. Hits the receiver in his hands. Now, that,
- 46:06Speaker 4: to me, seems like it's on the receiver clearly. He
- 46:09Speaker 4: had the ball clearly. That should be pure RCI. For
- 46:12Speaker 4: those of you who don't know RCI... receiver-caused interceptions. If
- 46:15Speaker 4: you like baseball, when there's a wild pitch, it's either
- 46:17Speaker 4: declared a wild pitch, which is on the pitcher, or
- 46:20Speaker 4: a passed ball, where it's on the catcher. Simple designation,
- 46:23Speaker 4: easy to fix. It's picking up momentum.
- 46:25Speaker 2: Well, what about when the receiver runs the wrong route?
- 46:27Speaker 3: That happens even more often than bobbling it and putting
- 46:29Speaker 3: up in the air for the defense.
- 46:30Speaker 4: That would be hard for the scorekeeper to decide in
- 46:32Speaker 4: the moment, but I'm sure quarterbacks would like that as well.
- 46:34Speaker 4: All right, last up for constructive criticism. Here we go. Oh,
- 46:37Speaker 4: from our guy Daniel Roberts. We know him from Front
- 46:39Speaker 4: Office Sports. It took marrying a Southerner to get this
- 46:42Speaker 4: New Englander to this point, but I now must declare,
- 46:44Speaker 4: he's declaring, I think college football Saturdays are more fun
- 46:48Speaker 4: than NFL Sundays. Wow, this is a big topic.
- 46:51Speaker 2: Not to me.
- 46:52Speaker 3: I don't even think, I don't know, why would you,
- 46:55Speaker 3: and you do this pretty much every day, why compare
- 46:57Speaker 3: Saturday and Sunday?
- 46:58Speaker 2: They work together. You're supposed to be on the couch
- 47:00Speaker 2: for the entire 48 hours.
- 47:01Speaker 4: I'm with you on that. I think I like college
- 47:03Speaker 4: football a touch more because of the randomness of it,
- 47:05Speaker 4: the amount of teams that are in play. But the
- 47:08Speaker 4: NFL Sunday, I would never say it's second tier or
- 47:10Speaker 4: anything like that. College football, as I've said, feels like
- 47:13Speaker 4: a dive bar. It's kind of reckless and weird, and
- 47:15Speaker 4: there's some shady characters all around. And the NFL is
- 47:18Speaker 4: like an airport lounge. It's antiseptic and nice, and you
- 47:21Speaker 4: get what you pay for.
- 47:22Speaker 3: In reality, I don't think college football will ever match
- 47:24Speaker 3: NFL unless they fix the schedule.
- 47:26Speaker 2: That was brutal on Saturday. I don't know why. I mean,
- 47:28Speaker 2: does Oregon really have to play Portland State, Paul?
- 47:31Speaker 4: No, it's a fair point. For every Ole Miss LSU,
- 47:33Speaker 4: there's four other 55 games.
- 47:35Speaker 2: No, I agree. But if you're doing it right, then
- 47:37Speaker 2: you're all in on both, I think.
- 47:39Speaker 4: All right, last up, it's time for the feel-good here
- 47:42Speaker 4: before we ship you out of here to get ready
- 47:43Speaker 4: for Monday Night Football. Big game tonight. Here is the feel-good.
- 47:47Speaker 2: Pearl, what do we have here?
- 47:48Speaker 3: Okay, this is Brown's coach. Todd Munkin is running to
- 47:50Speaker 3: the tunnel. Oh, wait, what do I got here?
- 47:53Speaker 4: Is he in a leap?
- 47:55Speaker 3: No, he turns left and goes to the 11 Browns
- 47:58Speaker 3: fans that sort of waited out the rain.
- 48:01Speaker 2: To high-five their coach. First of all, he's 60.
- 48:03Speaker 3: He is moving really well. Here comes Spencer Fano. I
- 48:07Speaker 3: love Todd Munkin. Everything about him, his team is terrible.
- 48:11Speaker 3: I'm not going to lie to you. That win doesn't
- 48:12Speaker 3: mean anything, but he is the best spirit in the NFL.
- 48:15Speaker 3: I don't know if he's going to last more than
- 48:16Speaker 3: two years in Cleveland, but I'm a super fan.
- 48:18Speaker 4: You know, when I saw him running there, he runs
- 48:20Speaker 4: kind of like I do, and I'm 12 years younger
- 48:22Speaker 4: than him. But I thought he was going to pop
- 48:24Speaker 4: a couple of hammies if he tried that Lambeau leap thing.
- 48:26Speaker 3: No, I think he's probably a former football player. He's
- 48:29Speaker 3: one of those coaches older now, but he was probably
- 48:31Speaker 3: an elite quarterback. Paul, no offense, but I think he's
- 48:34Speaker 3: got more athletic ability.
- 48:35Speaker 7: All right.
- 48:35Speaker 4: Tune in to the Dan Patrick Show tomorrow. I think
- 48:37Speaker 4: Michael Irvin will join DP. And tonight, Monday Night Football.
- 48:40Speaker 2: Enjoy it.
- 48:40Speaker 4: And we'll wrap it up here on Not So Fast
- 48:42Speaker 4: tomorrow right after Dan Patrick's show. Noon Eastern on NBC
- 48:45Speaker 4: Sports Now and Peacock. That's it for us.
- 48:47Speaker 1: We're done.
- 48:49Speaker 4: Love the playmaker.
- 48:50Speaker 5: Yeah.
