Petersburg Fire Department just made history by hiring twelve new EMS-only specialists—four captains, four ALS providers, and four BLS providers—to ensure 24/7 ambulance readiness with a part-time unit on standby. Facing a surge in medical calls (11K/year vs. 7K fire calls), they’re easing the burden by bringing in dedicated EMS experts. Residents can now expect faster, more specialized care during emergencies, backed by a new 24-hour paramedic supervisor who’ll support field crews.
