1:53
Speaker 5: Good morning? Do I use my radio voice.
1:55
Speaker 2: In the new studio? You have to want to talk
1:57
Speaker 2: to Rusty And momentarily Pudndham County School Supert John Hudson
2:01
Speaker 2: is going to be here. Voters in Putnam County will
2:03
Speaker 2: be looking at an education referendum when they go to
2:05
Speaker 2: the polls on election day or early voting, which starts

Speaker 2: Hudson speaking of early voting West Virginia. Secretary of State
2:14
Speaker 2: make Warner coming up a little bit later on on
2:16
Speaker 2: this first day of early voting, and Republican candidate for House,
2:19
Speaker 2: Andrew Anderson is here. We are loaded up this morning,
2:22
Speaker 2: but I want to bring in now our good friend
2:24
Speaker 2: Rob Reel from our sister station ninety six one KWS,
2:27
Speaker 2: who continues to walk from Charleston to Morgantown for WVU
2:30
Speaker 2: Children's his O October, as he calls it, being sponsored
2:34
Speaker 2: by the folks that panhandle cleaning and restoration. Rob, good morning.
2:37
Speaker 2: I also have attorney Rusty Web with me, who will
2:41
Speaker 2: be in the next segment. I figured it was a
2:42
Speaker 2: good idea to have an attorney standing by here, even
2:44
Speaker 2: if it is Rusty Web. So what do you souse?
2:47
Speaker 6: We all do respect the rusty. I hate all attorneys
2:49
Speaker 6: except mine.
2:51
Speaker 2: Well, he could be yours, he could be yours, all right,
2:54
Speaker 2: So how is it? How is the walk on Tuesday?
2:56
Speaker 6: Bub I went a little Mother nature has been great.
3:02
Speaker 6: Let me start there. Let me start with the positive
3:03
Speaker 6: and I did make it to where I had planned
3:06
Speaker 6: to end yesterday. The disappointment for me yesterday though, was
3:12
Speaker 6: I really really would have loved to go one more
3:15
Speaker 6: mile so that I could say, oh, I've got less
3:17
Speaker 6: I've got fewer than one hundred miles to go, and
3:20
Speaker 6: I just I had to listen to my body. My
3:22
Speaker 6: body went, Nope, you are done for the day. Get
3:24
Speaker 6: your ice cream and take it easy and live to
3:28
Speaker 6: walk fight another day. So back at it from Normantown
3:33
Speaker 6: at the country Store and bound for Baldwin today.
3:38
Speaker 2: That beautiful downtown Baldwin, West Virginia. Are you familiar Rush,
3:43
Speaker 2: Are you familiar with Baldwin? You know a bald one?
3:45
Speaker 7: No, I'm not.
3:46
Speaker 5: Are you in one nineteen? Is that how you're getting
3:48
Speaker 5: up there?
3:48
Speaker 8: Yeah?
3:48
Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, where one nineteen and thirty three are multiplexed.
3:52
Speaker 7: I'll be on that.
3:53
Speaker 6: I was on it all day yesterday. I'll be on
3:54
Speaker 6: it all day again today and all day tomorrow until
3:57
Speaker 6: I get to weston so one long road this week.
4:01
Speaker 6: Baldwin is one of those towns where it says welcome
4:03
Speaker 6: to hear on both sides of the same sign. And
4:05
Speaker 6: I say that lovingly because I grew up in a
4:08
Speaker 6: town like that, a one horse down so small that
4:11
Speaker 6: one horse is a Shetland pony. So this is my
4:15
Speaker 6: kind of place.
4:16
Speaker 2: So and you're also getting to enjoy some of God's
4:19
Speaker 2: handiwork out there with the fall colors too, right, because
4:21
Speaker 2: but I've seen that you've been posted. It's absolutely beautiful.
4:25
Speaker 6: And it's not just red, gold and green the way
4:27
Speaker 6: you think. I mean the shades. You know, there's rust
4:32
Speaker 6: and there's bronze, and there's copper, and I gotta get
4:35
Speaker 6: more pictures. So because it's just it is fantastic out here.
4:38
Speaker 2: Started talking about leaves and rusty web starts sneezing here
4:41
Speaker 2: in the studio. Yeah, about how it happens. All right,
4:44
Speaker 2: rob Man, be safe out there, and again you have.
4:46
Speaker 2: Robin's done a great job of updating everybody with videos
4:49
Speaker 2: and pictures on the KWS Facebook page. Of course, he's
4:52
Speaker 2: doing all this for WVU Children's to walk from Charleston
4:56
Speaker 2: to Morgantown. He left last week. He's due to arrive
4:58
Speaker 2: at the hospital in Morgantown Halloween.
5:00
Speaker 8: Knight.
5:01
Speaker 2: Be safe out there, enjoy the nice weather and we'll
5:04
Speaker 2: be following along.
5:05
Speaker 8: Man.
5:05
Speaker 2: Thanks a lot, Thank you, sir, talk tomorrow, Rob real,
5:09
Speaker 2: Rob or Rusty rather. You're quite an athlete. But walking
5:13
Speaker 2: from Charleston to Morgantown at the rid of about twenty
5:15
Speaker 2: miles a day, that's a little nuts.
5:16
Speaker 5: Yeah. And he's going to lose weight, sure, right, and
5:21
Speaker 5: he's going to the weather couldn't be better?
5:22
Speaker 2: Oh yeah, hdding me, Yeah, I mean the extended forecast.
5:25
Speaker 2: Things change, you know, but the extended forecasters just like
5:27
Speaker 2: a slight chance of a sprinkle. But all the way
5:31
Speaker 2: through his walk, I mean, man, everything looks good. You're
5:34
Speaker 2: here to talk about tennis as it pertains to your
5:38
Speaker 2: love and mind. Marshall University.
5:39
Speaker 9: Yes, yes, man, Well, this is a tournament that's been
5:43
Speaker 9: going on actually for about thirty years. Martha Hill and
5:46
Speaker 9: I started it whatever thirty years ago is, and Martha
5:51
Speaker 9: stayed with it. I helped her a couple of years,
5:54
Speaker 9: and she stayed with it.
5:55
Speaker 5: Now I'm kind of back on the committee, and this.
5:59
Speaker 9: Year, like previous years, the money raised is going to
6:04
Speaker 9: go to the Marshall University tennis team. It had previously
6:06
Speaker 9: gone to the alumni Association. Where's something near and dear
6:10
Speaker 9: to Martha's heart, is sure?
6:11
Speaker 10: Yeah?
6:11
Speaker 9: Alumni and near and dear to my heart, of course
6:13
Speaker 9: is the tennis team, and of course it makes sense
6:17
Speaker 9: tennis playing tennis for tennis. So we're going to start.
6:22
Speaker 9: It's happened every year. We're going to start on Thursday
6:24
Speaker 9: night and play the local players so nobody.
6:27
Speaker 5: Has to try.
6:27
Speaker 9: And again, where does it all happens It the YMCA.
6:29
Speaker 9: I'm sorry, yeah, YMCA. Friday night is we're not playing,
6:36
Speaker 9: but we're having some activities. So what we're doing Friday
6:38
Speaker 9: night is we're having a free kids clinic from five
6:42
Speaker 9: to six, which will be taught by the Marshall players.
6:44
Speaker 9: We always do that, you know, Thunder in the Mountains.
6:48
Speaker 9: Then from five to six and then seven to eight,
6:52
Speaker 9: locals for a donation of fifty dollars to the team
6:56
Speaker 9: can play fun doubles with Marshall's team.
7:01
Speaker 5: In other words, you have a player, I have a player.
7:03
Speaker 9: We're playing doubles against each other and there are about
7:07
Speaker 9: four slots available, two in the five to six slot
7:11
Speaker 9: and two in the seven to eight slot. And then
7:17
Speaker 9: Saturday all day will be tennis, and then Sunday will
7:20
Speaker 9: be the finals and the team will come back and
7:22
Speaker 9: take pictures with the winners and finalists. But We're really
7:27
Speaker 9: encouraging anyone, everyone, but particularly Marshall alumni, but everyone to
7:33
Speaker 9: come up on Friday evening and meet and greet the team.
7:36
Speaker 9: And they're going to be silent auctions, door prizes, you know,
7:43
Speaker 9: just fun things, fun things for you to do. Buy
7:46
Speaker 9: Marshall tennis apparel, which is you know, not easy to
7:50
Speaker 9: find because it's in a box and the coach's office.
7:55
Speaker 9: So and I have a really cool hoodie. I love
7:59
Speaker 9: it so and all the money is going to go
8:02
Speaker 9: to Marshall University Tennis. I will tell you that last
8:07
Speaker 9: at Thunder the Mountains, the winner was from Marshall and
8:13
Speaker 9: she won one thousand dollars. And we also donated to
8:17
Speaker 9: WU Tennis from Thunder the Mountains one thousand dollars. So
8:21
Speaker 9: I'm a you know, I'm an equal opportunity when it
8:23
Speaker 9: comes to my tennis players at both universities, but this
8:27
Speaker 9: one's all about Marshall and really have one hundred over
8:33
Speaker 9: one hundred players, which is really good, you know, you know,
8:37
Speaker 9: not to be a pickleball tournament, which is you know,
8:40
Speaker 9: all the rage. It is all the rage. I mean,
8:42
Speaker 9: there's no question about its. Matter of fact, I'm thinking
8:44
Speaker 9: about having a pickleball tournament to raise money for Thundering
8:47
Speaker 9: the Mountain.
8:49
Speaker 2: Johnny Rutherford, make it happen, man.
8:51
Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I'll tell yeah.
8:53
Speaker 9: So anyway, the sponsors, because I like to talk about
8:58
Speaker 9: the sponsors, and you always let me do that. So
9:01
Speaker 9: obviously I'm the major sponsor, the Web Law Center, and
9:06
Speaker 9: we're buying these really cool hoodies. This isn't gonna be
9:08
Speaker 9: low brow t shirts. These are nice, dry fit hoodies
9:12
Speaker 9: and they're not gonna be all tacked up. They're gonna
9:15
Speaker 9: look really neat. Because I'm in charge. The Piro Simmons,
9:19
Speaker 9: McGinley and Bastards has been a long time supporter of
9:23
Speaker 9: this tournament, as has Hunter Insurance and Financial. I've gone
9:27
Speaker 9: in and out, but they've stayed very very consistent. Graphic
9:31
Speaker 9: Solutions is giving us a discount out of Huntington. They
9:36
Speaker 9: have the Marshall logo. It's hard to find around here,
9:38
Speaker 9: you know what I mean. And then Tammy and Casey Robinson,
9:41
Speaker 9: who are dedicated alumni, and Martha Hill as she always
9:45
Speaker 9: gives money to this story. In addition to their time
9:48
Speaker 9: and efforts, they both are giving money and food and
9:52
Speaker 9: all kinds of good stuff like that. So it's gonna
9:56
Speaker 9: be big. I'm in it, but I'm gonna with thra
9:59
Speaker 9: all today because I messed my back up about two
10:01
Speaker 9: weeks ago in Greenboro County.
10:04
Speaker 2: I think what happens when you turn what happens when
10:06
Speaker 2: you turn thirty?
10:07
Speaker 9: Rusting, I know, I thought I could pull this trailer
10:09
Speaker 9: to my truck, and I was going downhill and that
10:11
Speaker 9: trailer didn't want to stop, and I just I messed
10:14
Speaker 9: my back up.
10:14
Speaker 2: Yeah, the Injured Reserve now man.
10:16
Speaker 9: Yeah, I'm an IR, but I'll be up there for
10:19
Speaker 9: most of the festivities. But I'm gonna withdraw all today.
10:23
Speaker 9: Just my back's killing men.
10:24
Speaker 2: And I've got information posted about I'll get the flyer

Speaker 2: Got to get them at our studios eleven eleven Virginia
16:12
Speaker 2: Street East and Charleston during normal business hours. But I
16:14
Speaker 2: were you a plan on getting those today? We get
16:17
Speaker 2: Andrew Anderson, who is Republican candidate for a House of Delegates.
16:21
Speaker 2: We'll talk to him a little bit later on. Also,
16:23
Speaker 2: early voting is underway in West Virginia. It started at
16:27
Speaker 2: actually most places, some Kanlaw Kenny starts at eight, but
16:31
Speaker 2: most places it's nine, you know, eight, nine, eight thirty
16:33
Speaker 2: something like that. And so it's up. So early voting
16:37
Speaker 2: is up and running as we speak right now. We'll
16:39
Speaker 2: talk to Mike Warner about that coming up at the
16:40
Speaker 2: Secretary of State a little bit later on. I want
16:42
Speaker 2: to welcome into the show now Putnam County School Superintendent
16:45
Speaker 2: John Hudson, Superintendent good morning, Welcome to the show.
16:48
Speaker 7: Hey, good morning, David.
16:49
Speaker 5: How are you doing fine?
16:50
Speaker 2: Thank you for being here. So I mentioned early voting
16:52
Speaker 2: starting today in West Virginia, and if you live in
16:55
Speaker 2: Putnam County, like a lot of our listeners do, when
16:57
Speaker 2: you go to the polls, you're going to find an
17:00
Speaker 2: education bond of sorts on the ballot. Now, stop me,
17:02
Speaker 2: sir if I get any of this wrong. On the
17:04
Speaker 2: ballot is a bond that specifically calls for a new
17:07
Speaker 2: Hurricane Middle School and health and safety improvements for several
17:11
Speaker 2: outdoor athletic facilities at several different schools in the county.
17:15
Speaker 2: According to the wording of the School Building Authority, would
17:19
Speaker 2: that would contribute twenty five million dollars towards the cost
17:22
Speaker 2: of the middle school. That is half the total cost, contingent,
17:25
Speaker 2: of course, on Putnam County voters passing the bond on
17:29
Speaker 2: election day or leading up to election day with early voting.
17:31
Speaker 2: Did I get that right?
17:33
Speaker 7: Yes? Just Also, the School Building Authority would have to
17:38
Speaker 7: approve the project once if the bond is passed.
17:43
Speaker 2: All right, So I guess the dumb question here, because
17:45
Speaker 2: I asked dumb questions better than anybody asked is why
17:50
Speaker 2: is this needed?
17:51
Speaker 7: Well, this is very much needed. One of the primary
17:55
Speaker 7: things is a residents of Puttnam County, especially the Hurricane area.
18:00
Speaker 7: For as far as Hurricane Middle School is, it was
18:03
Speaker 7: actually built in nineteen fifty. It was it's overdue for replacement.
18:07
Speaker 7: In two thousand and nine, the Board of Education here
18:10
Speaker 7: ran a bond and at that time the bond built
18:14
Speaker 7: new schools Buffalo High School, Winfield Middle School, Poka Elementary,
18:20
Speaker 7: Pocal Middle and also Competence Elementary. As a result of
18:24
Speaker 7: that bond. At that time, actually Hurricane Middle needed a
18:30
Speaker 7: new building, but there just was that you couldn't ask
18:33
Speaker 7: the taxpayers to take on another huge projects such as that.
18:37
Speaker 7: So now this is an opportunity for that to get
18:40
Speaker 7: completed with some of those other safety improvements all of
18:44
Speaker 7: our other areas. But the big part of it is
18:48
Speaker 7: is we have the potential to get twenty five million
18:51
Speaker 7: in school building authority right at almost half the cost
18:54
Speaker 7: of a new Hurricane Middle. So it is just very
18:57
Speaker 7: much needed for spacing for our school the students. Also,
19:01
Speaker 7: the proximity to Route thirty four. Just multiple reasons, but
19:05
Speaker 7: now is a great opportunity for it to happen.
19:08
Speaker 2: And Superintendent, how is what the voters are looking at
19:11
Speaker 2: now different than let's say, and the excess levee because
19:16
Speaker 2: you don't charged on out levees and bonds and things.
19:18
Speaker 2: That kind of gets confused.
19:19
Speaker 7: What's the difference it does? The excess levee was passed
19:23
Speaker 7: back in May during the primary and those go to
19:28
Speaker 7: instructional supplies, they go to support extra curricular curricular programs.
19:33
Speaker 7: But this specifically a bond you kind of think of
19:37
Speaker 7: B for bond, B for buildings. They are for building
19:41
Speaker 7: and the facility improvements, and that money and that funding
19:44
Speaker 7: cannot be used for anything else specifically for what is
19:48
Speaker 7: in that bond call? And what is amazing with this
19:52
Speaker 7: bond call because of our Board of Education taking really
19:56
Speaker 7: a really good look at this, the bond call tax
20:00
Speaker 7: right will be will not be an increase and as
20:03
Speaker 7: a matter of fact, it will be a decrease over
20:06
Speaker 7: the two thousand and nine bond And our board purposely
20:09
Speaker 7: didn't want to tax the citizens anymore than they did
20:12
Speaker 7: in two thousand and nine.
20:14
Speaker 2: Talking again with Putnam County School Superintendent John Hudson, the
20:16
Speaker 2: day Island showing five Any Life brought to you in
20:18
Speaker 2: part by Pinnacle Consultants. Their services involved developing a comprehensive
20:22
Speaker 2: management plans to outline strategies for controlling and minimizing as
20:25
Speaker 2: business exposure. Perfect for commercial property owners and managers. Visa
20:29
Speaker 2: Pinnacle Court dot net because what you don't know can
20:32
Speaker 2: hurt you. The big question, Superintendent, everybody asked, no matter
20:35
Speaker 2: the county, no matter the school system, is how will
20:38
Speaker 2: it impact my taxes?
20:40
Speaker 7: Well, the big part is if there will be no
20:46
Speaker 7: tax rate increase, and a matter of fact, compared to
20:49
Speaker 7: the two thousand and nine bond, there will be a
20:52
Speaker 7: tax rate decrease. So I think that is really important
20:56
Speaker 7: for the citizens of Puttnham County to know and under stand,
21:00
Speaker 7: and especially with the other health and safety improvements, all
21:04
Speaker 7: of our theater school areas and high school areas will
21:07
Speaker 7: be impacted by this bond.
21:09
Speaker 2: And let's come back to Hurricane Middle School for a moment.
21:12
Speaker 2: Someone told me the other day and I don't know,
21:14
Speaker 2: maybe you would know this. I don't. I didn't realize,
21:16
Speaker 2: and I live in Hurricane. I didn't realize this is
21:18
Speaker 2: it the largest middle school in the state or one
21:21
Speaker 2: of the largest middle schools in the state.
21:23
Speaker 7: You know, as far as enrollment. I would say it
21:27
Speaker 7: is in one of the top largest middle schools in
21:30
Speaker 7: the state. I can't say that is the largest. I
21:33
Speaker 7: don't know that exactly either, but it is rather large
21:37
Speaker 7: school in middle school with the three grades grade six
21:40
Speaker 7: through eight.
21:40
Speaker 2: And it would and as you said, it was built
21:42
Speaker 2: in what nineteen fifty, is that what you said, Yes,
21:44
Speaker 2: the current school.
21:45
Speaker 7: I think it was Hurricane High at that time, but
21:48
Speaker 7: it was nineteen fifty the original section.
21:51
Speaker 2: And you know, schools just don't hold up. We're seeing
21:53
Speaker 2: this in Kanawa County. I'm sure you've been following it
21:55
Speaker 2: with the and I'll get if I get time, I'll
21:57
Speaker 2: touch on a little bit later on. You're seeing in
21:59
Speaker 2: the Kanaw County with the all these talks of consolidations,
22:01
Speaker 2: building new schools and whatever. Schools then once they get
22:04
Speaker 2: some age on them, Superintendent, there's just there's only so
22:06
Speaker 2: many repairs that you can make to schools.
22:09
Speaker 7: Well, that's right, and the repairs and we have a
22:12
Speaker 7: good maintenance staff and we do well with those safety
22:15
Speaker 7: requirements that are in place. But as you know, as
22:19
Speaker 7: time changes, we need different spacing and with different type
22:22
Speaker 7: of learning environments. If you look maybe at a science
22:26
Speaker 7: lab and our current Hurricane Middle School. I can assure
22:28
Speaker 7: you it would not be like what a science lab
22:31
Speaker 7: would look like in a new a middle school. Some
22:34
Speaker 7: of the spaces for our students as they need to work,
22:37
Speaker 7: in collaborative teams as they need to work, and some
22:41
Speaker 7: of those things that even now especially have our students
22:44
Speaker 7: working a lot outside. And a part of the new
22:47
Speaker 7: school concept includes an area outside classroom within the confines
22:53
Speaker 7: of the school building itself.
22:55
Speaker 2: And if there is, I know, I don't want to
22:58
Speaker 2: get the car before the horse, because obviously voters would
23:00
Speaker 2: have to pass this and then the SBA has to
23:02
Speaker 2: get involved. But have we started talking about where if
23:06
Speaker 2: a new Hurricane Middle School is built, where it might
23:08
Speaker 2: be built or is that just a little premature.
23:11
Speaker 7: No, no, it is not premature at all. Actually, the
23:14
Speaker 7: board has been very thoughtful in that the land that
23:17
Speaker 7: was purchased and paid for, I think back in twenty
23:21
Speaker 7: nineteen the land was paid for. It is the land
23:25
Speaker 7: directly adjacent to the current Hurricane High School. So it's
23:31
Speaker 7: about twenty five twenty six acres, just a great spot
23:35
Speaker 7: for the new Hurricane Middle School and has not has already.
23:38
Speaker 2: Been paid And I will say this, you know, as
23:40
Speaker 2: somebody who lives right in smack Dab. As we say,
23:43
Speaker 2: in southern West Virginia in the middle of tays Valley,
23:46
Speaker 2: traffic is an issue there. But as I always say, Superintendent,
23:49
Speaker 2: there's areas of the state that would kill to have
23:51
Speaker 2: a traffic problem. So I don't really complain about it.
23:53
Speaker 2: I complained a little bit about sixty four. I don't
23:55
Speaker 2: necessarily complain about Tayes Valley Road. But Putnam County is
23:59
Speaker 2: in a unique place because you have a lot of people,
24:03
Speaker 2: unlike you know, other parts of West Virginia. There's a
24:06
Speaker 2: lot of people moving into Putnam County, and we saw
24:09
Speaker 2: it in the nineties and it kind of ebbed a
24:11
Speaker 2: little bit. Now it's come back again with New Core
24:14
Speaker 2: and whatever. There's a whole lot of people that are
24:15
Speaker 2: choosing to live in Putnam County right now.
24:18
Speaker 7: That is correct, and we're seeing economically in our school
24:21
Speaker 7: communities supporting our schools. But you mentioned new corps. Many
24:25
Speaker 7: of the Newcore people that are already moving in have
24:28
Speaker 7: have already said, hey, we know what school system we
24:30
Speaker 7: want to attend, we know what area we want to live.
24:33
Speaker 7: And as you noticed driving on sixty four, the new
24:37
Speaker 7: Klode and Accent will open up sometime in the next
24:40
Speaker 7: year or so, but there will be a traffic study
24:43
Speaker 7: that is conducted with the Hurricane Middle School if the
24:46
Speaker 7: project is approved, and there are dedicated bus slooping and
24:50
Speaker 7: parent drop off, and the goal of that is to
24:53
Speaker 7: reduce the traffic and get it off of Tays Valley Road.
24:58
Speaker 7: And currently our bus is we have half of our
25:00
Speaker 7: buses dropping off at Hurricane High and half at Hurricane
25:03
Speaker 7: Middle and they're about a mile or two apart, as
25:05
Speaker 7: you know, so then they have to switch, so it's
25:08
Speaker 7: just double the traffic. So we truly believe it'll make
25:12
Speaker 7: an impact on getting that traffic off of Tays Valley Road.
25:16
Speaker 2: Before we let you go, I would do want to
25:18
Speaker 2: mention there are links to all of what we talked
25:20
Speaker 2: about on the Putnam Putnam County School's website and also
25:23
Speaker 2: in the social media. I was doing some research on
25:25
Speaker 2: this last night. Any final words, Superintendent for the voters
25:30
Speaker 2: of Putnam County. As I said, early voting began today
25:34
Speaker 2: Election Day, of course, November the fifth, Any final words
25:37
Speaker 2: for the folks in Putnam County, just this is.
25:40
Speaker 7: An opportunity for our citizens with the possibility of getting
25:43
Speaker 7: half of the tow almost total or free money if
25:46
Speaker 7: you will, from the school building Authority if this has
25:48
Speaker 7: passed and the school authority approves, and it also provides
25:53
Speaker 7: those health and safety improvements where each of our areas
25:56
Speaker 7: in the Hurricane area, Winfield Area, PoCA Area, and Buffalo
25:59
Speaker 7: are are getting upgrades as well, but no tax rate increase.
26:04
Speaker 7: That's important for our people to know and understand.
26:06
Speaker 2: Putnham County School Superintendent John Hudson, I appreciate you being here.
26:10
Speaker 2: Good luck with everything. We'll talk again, Sue Man, thanks

31:32

Speaker 2: the Putnam Career in Technical Center in Elvanor on her
32:22
Speaker 2: sister station KWS. So we're looking forward to seeing you there.
32:25
Speaker 2: The Dave Allen Show in five Ady Live brought to
32:27
Speaker 2: you a part by Hustan's Pizza. This month, as your
32:29
Speaker 2: favorite Hustans get a large a ten inch pepperoni pizza
32:32
Speaker 2: and an eight inch chocolate chip cookie. Only twenty three
32:34
Speaker 2: ninety nine. Welcome into the show Now Canada for our
32:36
Speaker 2: house history fifty six Republican Andrew Anderson, Good morning, sir,
32:39
Speaker 2: How are you good morning?
32:40
Speaker 5: Doing well?
32:41
Speaker 2: Thanks for having me. I didn't get to ask you,
32:43
Speaker 2: what do you think of the new digs here? Fancy?
32:45
Speaker 2: I kind of feel the old studio kind of had
32:48
Speaker 2: a feel to it that I enjoyed.
32:50
Speaker 5: But this is very nice.
32:51
Speaker 2: Yeah, we don't know where the bodies are all buried
32:53
Speaker 2: than that, yet we found it was an interesting story
32:56
Speaker 2: when we always have a struggle. I think I told
32:58
Speaker 2: this on here. We have a struggle to find headphones.
33:00
Speaker 2: It's people always take it. I don't steal them, they
33:02
Speaker 2: just take them into another studio and whatever. And I
33:05
Speaker 2: have a guest in here and I can never find
33:06
Speaker 2: headphones for them. When they started tearing out the old studio,
33:11
Speaker 2: they found like three sets of headphones, and I said,
33:14
Speaker 2: and I was talking to Jenkins, and I said, were
33:16
Speaker 2: the announcers still attached to them? I mean, it was
33:18
Speaker 2: somebody from the seventies that just got stored in the closet.
33:20
Speaker 14: Somewhere that sounds like my sunglasses I have to have.
33:23
Speaker 14: I just buy like five pairs at a time and
33:25
Speaker 14: just up, here's one put and they're always on your
33:27
Speaker 14: Head's that's the thing. So tell us who Andrew Anderson is.
33:30
Speaker 14: Andrew Anderson is Knall County born and raised resident. My
33:36
Speaker 14: wife is from here as well. She's a George Washington graduate.
33:39
Speaker 14: I grew up in the Cross Lanes area, but lived
33:41
Speaker 14: in Kennall County the vast majority of my life other
33:43
Speaker 14: than traveling for work. I'm a father of four. I'm
33:46
Speaker 14: an engineer by trade. I have been working in energy
33:48
Speaker 14: and manufacturing for twenty some years now.
33:51
Speaker 5: I don't even know.
33:51
Speaker 2: It's gone so quick.
33:52
Speaker 5: I don't even know how long it's been.
33:54
Speaker 14: But and I'm a candidate for House fifty six district,
33:56
Speaker 14: and I'm excited to meet everyone in the district and
33:59
Speaker 14: get out and work hard. We've been working really hard.
34:01
Speaker 14: We've been knocking doors, and I.
34:03
Speaker 2: Mean you and I We're talking to everybody. How many
34:04
Speaker 2: doors have you knocked?
34:05
Speaker 14: By sundown tonight, it'll be over fifteen hundred. I don't
34:08
Speaker 14: know the exact number, but by sundown tonight we'll have
34:10
Speaker 14: fifteen hundred doors knocked. We've met a lot of people.
34:13
Speaker 14: The response is absolutely positive for this campaign, and people
34:16
Speaker 14: are excited. People have a lot of issues that they're
34:19
Speaker 14: concerned about here in Kanall County. Number one is jobs
34:21
Speaker 14: for our family. People are sick of our kids leaving
34:24
Speaker 14: our communities and moving to Charlotte and to Columbus. And
34:26
Speaker 14: I have I as a father of four, I got
34:28
Speaker 14: an eight year old, a six year old and twins
34:29
Speaker 14: that just turned four. I look at it, what do
34:32
Speaker 14: you have time to knock on doors? Thank God for
34:34
Speaker 14: my wife and my mother in law and my mom
34:38
Speaker 14: so we hear about jobs so our kids don't leave.
34:41
Speaker 14: We want people want safe communities. People want to see
34:45
Speaker 14: access to childcare for working families. And those are the
34:48
Speaker 14: key issues that we're talking about with the community. And
34:51
Speaker 14: I think we can work hard to get things done
34:53
Speaker 14: on those issues. As the legislator.
34:55
Speaker 2: Talk at again with Andrew Anderson. Now this is District
34:58
Speaker 2: fifty six, Okay, after the that's right to get the
35:00
Speaker 2: number right, rights correct for the But now you'd served before.
35:03
Speaker 14: I was appointed to the thirty fifth by the governor
35:06
Speaker 14: in twenty twenty two. I served for ninety days one
35:10
Speaker 14: hundred days or so when we were appointed, we had
35:13
Speaker 14: seventy nine days until the election. And when I was appointed,
35:17
Speaker 14: we had no website, no money, no organization, not even
35:20
Speaker 14: a current family picture. So we were really behind the
35:23
Speaker 14: eight ball. And we did our best at the seventy
35:25
Speaker 14: nine days and lost by fifty eight votes. And we
35:29
Speaker 14: are ahead of the game this time, way more prepared,
35:31
Speaker 14: and I feel like we're going to get across the
35:32
Speaker 14: finish line.
35:33
Speaker 2: What did you learn when during your first term there? Again,
35:36
Speaker 2: you were kind of, I don't want to say thrown
35:37
Speaker 2: into it, but you were appointed to the position and
35:39
Speaker 2: so you didn't have a whole lot of time to
35:40
Speaker 2: prepare for it. But what were some of the surprises
35:44
Speaker 2: that you had there? Were there anything that really surprised
35:47
Speaker 2: you when you got there?
35:48
Speaker 1: Yeah.
35:48
Speaker 14: One of the key reasons that I'm running is something
35:51
Speaker 14: that I learned, and that is to get things done
35:53
Speaker 14: in the legislature, you have to have relationships with leadership,
35:57
Speaker 14: and you have to be in the conversations that matter.
36:00
Speaker 14: Experience matters, and having the relationships matter, And that is
36:03
Speaker 14: the primary reason I'm running, because having a relationship and
36:07
Speaker 14: the experience to get things done for families is what
36:09
Speaker 14: really matters talk and a lot of Facebook posts and
36:14
Speaker 14: Instagram posts do not accomplish things for voters. We gets
36:16
Speaker 14: things done are having relationships and experience that can push
36:19
Speaker 14: things across the finish line.
36:21
Speaker 2: And you've talked about some of the needs of the
36:24
Speaker 2: district and number one, keeping people here. You know, at
36:27
Speaker 2: certain areas of the states seem to be growing others
36:29
Speaker 2: or stagnant others or not. Obviously, and of course when
36:32
Speaker 2: you're serving of a legislature, your number one priority is
36:35
Speaker 2: to your constituents, but you're also making decisions where the
36:37
Speaker 2: entire state of West Virginia, and I know that's something
36:40
Speaker 2: that you have to study. What are some of the
36:43
Speaker 2: things if you are elected that you really really say,
36:46
Speaker 2: I am going to go after this or I want
36:49
Speaker 2: to work on this. What would this be?
36:50
Speaker 14: Creating an environment where capital investment comes to Kanall County
36:53
Speaker 14: so we have good opportunities for our kids, for everyone.
36:57
Speaker 2: But I look at it.
36:58
Speaker 14: It's personal with me because I look at a he's
37:00
Speaker 14: got fifteen sixteen years before my kids are looking for jobs,
37:02
Speaker 14: and I want there to be opportunity here for them.
37:05
Speaker 14: Second is clean, safe communities. That's a huge issue. I
37:09
Speaker 14: mean to talk about policy that would take us two
37:12
Speaker 14: hours to what impacts clean and safe communities, but that
37:14
Speaker 14: is a priority. And then fixing the childcare system. You know,
37:18
Speaker 14: the Chamber of Commerce's priority says one of their key
37:21
Speaker 14: priorities is having access to affordable childcare for people to
37:25
Speaker 14: go to work, for working class families in West Virginia.
37:28
Speaker 14: And that's something that we absolutely will address and that
37:30
Speaker 14: I will drive across the finish line.
37:33
Speaker 5: Again.
37:33
Speaker 2: We're talking with Andrew Anderson, who's a candidate for a
37:35
Speaker 2: house in District fifty six on the Republican ticket. The
37:37
Speaker 2: Dave Allan Show on five any Live brought to you
37:39
Speaker 2: in part by Meek's Realty Group. Rich Surrealtor always happy
37:42
Speaker 2: to take your call. He's got a great listing in
37:44
Speaker 2: Scott Depots seventy five point Zetia Drive in Scott Depot,
37:47
Speaker 2: fifty six hundred square foot home. It's got six bedrooms,
37:51
Speaker 2: all kinds of cool amenities and a whole house generator.
37:55
Speaker 2: More caller, Text my good friend Rich the realtor three
37:57
Speaker 2: zero four nine three two seventy four eighty eight three
38:00
Speaker 2: four two nine three two seventy four eighty eight. Let
38:02
Speaker 2: him tell you more about this property, of course, you
38:05
Speaker 2: being a Republican. The Republicans have got the super majority
38:09
Speaker 2: in West Virginia, something that would have been unheard of,
38:12
Speaker 2: you know, years and years ago, and Democrats controlled it
38:14
Speaker 2: for a long time. The Republicans are in charge now.
38:16
Speaker 2: You got a little taste of it when you were
38:18
Speaker 2: appointed there, and you're hoping to go back again. Any
38:21
Speaker 2: concerns about splits in the party, because I know it
38:24
Speaker 2: happened with the Democrats that we've seen, you know, a
38:27
Speaker 2: couple here. Any concerns about anything like that, Yeah, that's.
38:29
Speaker 14: Just part of the game when you have a majority
38:32
Speaker 14: like that. And I think it's important that as Republicans
38:35
Speaker 14: we look to elect good Republicans with real life experience
38:38
Speaker 14: that have common sense conservative values. And I think I
38:41
Speaker 14: represent that part of the party and I think that
38:44
Speaker 14: is in line with what the values of the fifty
38:47
Speaker 14: six district here Kandall County. It's just right in the
38:49
Speaker 14: line with those values. And so that's kind of the
38:51
Speaker 14: reason I'm running. I mean, at the end of the day,
38:53
Speaker 14: the Republican parties are going to make the decision on policy,
38:56
Speaker 14: They're going to make decision on priorities, and I want
38:58
Speaker 14: to be in that conversation to help Kennall County.
39:00
Speaker 2: Give me the final thirty. What makes you the better
39:02
Speaker 2: candidate for this race.
39:04
Speaker 14: I have decades of experience working in manufacturing, energy, and
39:08
Speaker 14: real estate, solving big world, big problems, and I want
39:13
Speaker 14: to take that experience to the legislature to work for
39:15
Speaker 14: Kannak County families and solve the issues that matter to them,
39:19
Speaker 14: get things across the finish line in regards to job creation,
39:22
Speaker 14: in regards to clean and safe communities, and in regards
39:25
Speaker 14: to fixing the childcare problem that we have with access
39:28
Speaker 14: to childcare for working families and the and the foster
39:31
Speaker 14: care system as well. I think those are all proporities,
39:33
Speaker 14: and I think I've got the experience and the relationships
39:35
Speaker 14: to get things done for Knall County.
39:36
Speaker 2: Have a Facebook or website that you'd like to, yeah, Weather.
39:40
Speaker 14: The website is Anderson for wv dot com and the
39:44
Speaker 14: Facebook is Andrew Anderson for West Virginia and they're both
39:48
Speaker 14: accessible easily.
39:49

41:16
Speaker 17: talked to so many people who are excited about this
41:19
Speaker 17: race and the potential for the county. I'm excited too.
41:23
Speaker 17: As your commissioner, I'll help create jobs, improve infrastructure like

41:44

41:48
Speaker 2: I think the government should just work.
41:50
Speaker 11: I'm Kaylie Young, and as your delegate, I focused on
41:52
Speaker 11: putting money back in your pockets through tax cuts, fixing childcare,
41:55
Speaker 11: protecting our kids from abuse and neglect, and just making
41:58
Speaker 11: sure that everyone's getting along by working hard for you
42:00
Speaker 11: instead of culture wars that make your life worse, not
42:02

42:04

42:05
Speaker 3: This November vote Kayla Young for House of Delegates to

43:09

43:57
Speaker 2: good morning, welcome to the show.
43:59
Speaker 8: Good morning, It's always good to be with you, Dave.
44:01
Speaker 2: Polls are open for early voting. Let me just say
44:04
Speaker 2: that here in Kanawha County, you can early vote at
44:05
Speaker 2: the Voter Registration building on Courrier Street, plus the Sheriff's
44:08
Speaker 2: Attachment across Lanes, the Belltown Hall, City Hall in Saint Albans,
44:12

Speaker 2: Building on the West Side eight to five here in
44:21
Speaker 2: Kanawha County Monday through Friday and the next two Saturdays
44:23
Speaker 2: nine to five. It's really easy to early vote. Secretary
44:27
Speaker 2: it Suriots.
44:27
Speaker 8: I'm glad you're talking about this. As you mentioned, the
44:30
Speaker 8: voting is going on as we speak. We talked with
44:32
Speaker 8: both the Canawla and Putnam County. They say the early
44:35
Speaker 8: voting is brisk, so there's no reason not to vote.
44:38
Speaker 8: We've made it easier than ever in West Virginia to vote,
44:41
Speaker 8: so you can vote early in person. As you mentioned,
44:43
Speaker 8: you can vote absentee if you have that a good reason,
44:47
Speaker 8: and then of course on election day. That's the most
44:49
Speaker 8: secure form of voting is on election day, which is
44:51
Speaker 8: two weeks from yesterday, November fifth, So exercise you're right
44:55
Speaker 8: to participate in this democracy and it's game time.
44:59
Speaker 2: Hoppy did it an informal poll on Twitter asking people
45:02
Speaker 2: about how they vote, whether or not who they vote for,
45:06
Speaker 2: but to whether they choose to do early voting or
45:09
Speaker 2: in person voting absentee. The majority of people and I
45:11
Speaker 2: don't know what your numbers say, Secretary, but in this
45:13
Speaker 2: informal poll that Hobby did on x you Artist formally
45:16
Speaker 2: known as Twitter yesterday, it's said that most people plan
45:18
Speaker 2: on doing early voting.
45:21
Speaker 8: Well, the past has shown maybe a third of the
45:24
Speaker 8: people vote early or by absentee. But I can tell
45:26
Speaker 8: you that the numbers are looking strong. We've had over
45:29
Speaker 8: eleven thousand absent t ballots already come back in across
45:32
Speaker 8: the state, and I'd say that's probably higher than usual.
45:36
Speaker 8: This indication that the early voting is going strong also
45:39
Speaker 8: shows for potential for a good turnout, So it really
45:43
Speaker 8: doesn't matter which way you decide to vote. I think
45:45
Speaker 8: our legislature has done a wonderful job in giving us
45:47
Speaker 8: the options. But yet with parameters security, you just don't
45:51
Speaker 8: mail out ballots and you just don't have no excuse
45:53
Speaker 8: early voting or no excuse have some ty ballots. You
45:57
Speaker 8: have to have a reason. So they've struck that good
46:00
Speaker 8: balance between security and integrity in the process, yet making
46:04
Speaker 8: it easy for people to vote.
46:05
Speaker 2: Yeah, and I will point out that was just a
46:07
Speaker 2: very informal poll that Hoppy dead on Twitter on acts.
46:09
Speaker 2: It was just something he just you know, sort of
46:11
Speaker 2: a very It's not scientific at all, but a lot
46:13
Speaker 2: of people do choose to do the early voting. How's
46:17
Speaker 2: how's the search for poll workers going?
46:21
Speaker 8: Things went great all across the state. There was one
46:24
Speaker 8: county up until here a couple of days ago. I
46:25
Speaker 8: think it was Wetzel that still was looking for some
46:28
Speaker 8: poll workers. But as the clerks always do and the parties,
46:32
Speaker 8: they pull it out at the last minute get the
46:35
Speaker 8: numbers there that we need. I haven't heard of any
46:37
Speaker 8: complaints yet around the state, but not having enough, so
46:41
Speaker 8: things went well. I appreciate you all getting the word
46:43
Speaker 8: out to help us encourage people to participate as poll workers.
46:46
Speaker 2: And always remember in West Virginia, voter ID is the law,
46:49
Speaker 2: So take your ID with you. There are what sixteen
46:51
Speaker 2: different forms of IDA you can use.
46:54
Speaker 8: Yeah, as you mentioned it, two things one people think
46:56
Speaker 8: about as they head the polls is one, don't wear
46:58
Speaker 8: campaign material. Don't wear or something it's pro one candidate
47:02
Speaker 8: or party versus another. And then the others have that
47:05
Speaker 8: ide ready. And that's never been a problem here in
47:07
Speaker 8: West Virginia. I think people expect to show their ID,
47:09
Speaker 8: but if you just have that ready, then it keeps
47:11
Speaker 8: the lines moving along, keeps people flowing through the precincts
47:16
Speaker 8: or the early voting stations easily. So those two things,
47:20
Speaker 8: don't wear campaign material, have your idea ready.
47:22
Speaker 2: And yeah, that's very that's a very important point. I mean,
47:25
Speaker 2: you know, everybody supports their candidates local or on the
47:28
Speaker 2: national level, but it's not a free speech issue. It's
47:30
Speaker 2: it's considered electioneering. And you walk into the polling place,
47:34
Speaker 2: whether Trump or Biden or Harris or whatever, you're going
47:37
Speaker 2: to be asked to at least turn it inside out,
47:39
Speaker 2: to put a jacket on or something, because you simply
47:42
Speaker 2: can't do that. I do want to. I did get
47:43
Speaker 2: a text here about early voting in Putnam County, as
47:47
Speaker 2: is generally the case there, you can do early voting
47:49
Speaker 2: and Putnam County at the Valley Park Conference Center and
47:52
Speaker 2: also at the Putnam County Courthouse. What if people are
47:56
Speaker 2: out either doing early voting, Secretary, or they're out on
47:59
Speaker 2: election day and they see something that just doesn't look right.
48:02
Speaker 2: You know, this person is violating the one hundred foot rule,
48:06
Speaker 2: or this person is doing this, or they're in trying
48:07
Speaker 2: to intimidate voters. What do people need to do?
48:11
Speaker 8: The thing that we've instituted here in West Virginia is
48:14
Speaker 8: called see Something Text Something, And so everybody that has
48:17
Speaker 8: a cell phone can take a picture or a video
48:20
Speaker 8: and send that to our chief investigator, that's Kim Mason,
48:23
Speaker 8: and she will send that out to one of our
48:25
Speaker 8: investigators right away. If we can have somebody at any
48:27
Speaker 8: precinct in in West Virginia pretty much within about an
48:30
Speaker 8: hour and either stop the wrongdoing or investigate the wrongdoing.
48:36
Speaker 8: So please make use of that. It's called see something,
48:39
Speaker 8: Text Something. Just get on our website, go vote wv
48:43
Speaker 8: dot com. You'll have the information there. It's a very
48:45
Speaker 8: easy form to fill out. And what the purpose of
48:48
Speaker 8: that is is really to deter things from happening. If
48:51
Speaker 8: everyone knows that anyone with a cell phone can report
48:55
Speaker 8: an infraction, we're less like to have the shenanigans going
48:59
Speaker 8: on that we used to see in West Virginia. But
49:01
Speaker 8: really a lot of that has cleaned up dates. I
49:03
Speaker 8: think West Virginia has gotten a national reputation for clean
49:06
Speaker 8: elections now integrity, and we shall be proud of that.
49:10
Speaker 8: The voters themselves for turning up and participating, the clerks
49:13
Speaker 8: for doing their job, the poll workers. I think we're
49:15
Speaker 8: firing on all cylinders here in West Virginia. Everybody should
49:18
Speaker 8: be proud of that.
49:19
Speaker 2: All right, Secretary of State, make Warner, I appreciate you
49:21
Speaker 2: being here. Have a great election ten day, ten days
49:25
Speaker 2: of early voting, and of course on election day, I
49:28
Speaker 2: appreciate you being hereble to talk against you man. Thanks
49:29
Speaker 2: a lot. Thanks they Secretary of State Mac Warner, big

50:00
Speaker 2: I will say this about the folks at Generations. You've
50:04
Speaker 2: heard heard me talking about them. In June, I started,
50:08
Speaker 2: you know, I'm a guy that's hardly ever sick and
50:11
Speaker 2: very very rarely luckily have any health issues of any
50:13
Speaker 2: cat never broken any bones. You have to get off
50:16
Speaker 2: the couch, I guess to break bones, right. And in
50:19
Speaker 2: June I started feeling a numbness completely from my elbow down.
50:23
Speaker 2: Couldn't diagnose it. A couple of different tests run, they
50:25
Speaker 2: couldn't figure out exactly what the problem is. I made
50:28
Speaker 2: an appointment on my own with the folks in Generations
50:31
Speaker 2: to PT. They got locations throughout the tri state. I
50:34
Speaker 2: chose to go to the one in Winfield. I started
50:35
Speaker 2: physical therapy. I'm doing it three times a week now
50:39
Speaker 2: and it's it's been miraculous. I mean, it really really happens.
50:43
Speaker 2: Still not there yet, if you somebody pointed out the
50:45
Speaker 2: other day they said, saw a picture of you online
50:47
Speaker 2: and you were leaning sideways. Yeah, that's that's part of it.
50:51
Speaker 2: It's it's called it's like a form of spinal stenosis.
50:53
Speaker 2: It's not life threatening. Unfortunately I can't get a check
50:56
Speaker 2: for it or anything like that. Uh, but just kind
50:59
Speaker 2: of happens over the years, you know, carrying around probably
51:03
Speaker 2: too much weight around the middle and slumping and having
51:05
Speaker 2: poor posture and driving too much and typing too much
51:08
Speaker 2: and things of that nature. But I'm on the road
51:11
Speaker 2: to recovery. And that's a lot of that is because
51:13
Speaker 2: of the folks and generations. So I want to give
51:15
Speaker 2: them a big shout out. This morning. Text says easy
51:18
Speaker 2: in and out at the Girl Scouts voting location on
51:21
Speaker 2: the West Side. About eight voters there just now. That
51:24
Speaker 2: came in about ten minutes or so ago. So that's
51:27
Speaker 2: one of the locations in Kanawah County over on the
51:29
Speaker 2: west side. It's the Girl Scouts Center. You can early
51:31
Speaker 2: vote there, and I mentioned all of the others places
51:33
Speaker 2: that you can early vote. I've got information posted about
51:36
Speaker 2: on my social media. If you're in Kanawah County, get
51:38
Speaker 2: out there and vote. Some people choose to do early voting.
51:41
Speaker 2: Some people like it an election day regardless, get out
51:44
Speaker 2: there and vote Texas. What happens if the SBA doesn't
51:48
Speaker 2: supply funding. Can the communities fight to save their schools?
51:51
Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know. I can get into that.
51:53
Speaker 2: I can probably try to have somebody from the board
51:56
Speaker 2: or the superintendent's office, Canawh County on the show. I'm
51:59
Speaker 2: going to say it's not gonna happen. I mean, I
52:01
Speaker 2: think pretty much a done deal at this point, but
52:03
Speaker 2: I could be wrong. I'll look into that. My producer
52:06
Speaker 2: was Mac Guitar Murph you thank you so much. Coming up,
52:09
Speaker 2: tomorrow's tricker Beats Day, Woody Woods from The Beat will
52:12
Speaker 2: join us to talk about the Selango law trick or Beat.
52:14
Speaker 2: Senator Amy Nicle Grady is on the show. Plus, we'll
52:16
Speaker 2: check in with Rob Reel live on the road from
52:19
Speaker 2: my sister station KWS raising money Charleston Morgantown for WVU
52:23
Speaker 2: Children's Hospital. Have yourself a great, great Wednesday till tomorrow,
52:27
Speaker 2: have fun. I love somebody
