Transcript
- 0:00Yeah, my name is Puts Jacob and I am one half of Mister Clide.
- 0:30My name is Danny Sign and on the other half of mister Clyde and
- 0:34our new record is called Fat Chance, which is available streaming everywhere, and
- 0:39it's also on Vinyl y Reptile Records, but we sold out of that,
- 0:46so gotta dig for that shit on eBay. Yes, how are you Chris?
- 0:52Very good? Thanks many sous, thanks for joining us. Yeah,
- 0:57absolutely happy to be here. But Leslie, guys, so I'm I'm glad
- 1:00I got used to introduce yourself so I knew how to pronounce the band name.
- 1:03That was the main reason I did that, because I had no fucking
- 1:06idea. That's that's the first time someone's been that's a smart khaking. I
- 1:11like that. Good job. So as you so Supplies released your latest album,
- 1:18Fact Change, only a couple of days ago, man, So I
- 1:19know it hasn't been long, but what's the only reception been, Like,
- 1:23Oh, it's been really good. You've heard nothing but positive things so far.
- 1:29The only thing people have been bitching about is the vinyl right now,
- 1:32But I think that's a good thing. So yeah, but you know,
- 1:34reception for all the songs been great, Like, um, everyone seems to
- 1:40have like a different favorite track that sticks out to them. So yeah,
- 1:44it's been awesome. So what sort of a running VITYL did you do just
- 1:49that so quick? Did you only do five or did you do it?
- 1:51Do a decent amount? He did a decent amount. I think the numbers
- 1:56were because it's always limited. I think it was like more one hundred and
- 2:00something. So for am REP, that's pretty standard. Um, Melvin's,
- 2:07I mean Melvin's naturally do a little bit more, but yeah, he usually
- 2:09does about four hundred um because he does all the art pressing himself. It
- 2:15carves it all by hands. So it's basically like you're getting a really really
- 2:19special piece of art along with the vinyl. And I'm all about the limited
- 2:22shit. So it's like grabbit white you can because I'm not about I don't
- 2:25recrest, that's it. Get you don't get it? Yeah, when they're
- 2:30gone, they're gone. So it tell us a bit more about Fat Chance
- 2:36from a musical point of view, guys, and what are you gone forward
- 2:38it she's a little bit all art the show. Yeah, it's a it's
- 2:40a lot heavier um than what has gone in the past. It's a lot
- 2:45more of a straightforward rectord. Uh. We put that together at Electrical Audio
- 2:51in Chicago, Illinois. Um, it's like right down the road from a
- 2:54practice space. But yeah, we've been putting these songs together for We've been
- 3:00playing him live for like a year. Uh, coming off of the last
- 3:04release, Cancel Culture Club, and you know, that's enough time for me.
- 3:08I worked really quick, and Dan worked really quick, and he felt
- 3:12good about the songs. I'm not about fillers. I'm all about killers.
- 3:15So it's a short record for a reason. And I don't put killers out.
- 3:19I just put what I believe in. You've also been quite a decided
- 3:25that it is definitely a bit different to the previous albums, especially China Lys.
- 3:30Could you elaborate on that first? Yeah, Well, the last record,
- 3:35Culture of Clinton Brittles himself and produced to himself in his apartment, so
- 3:43like that had you know a much more like, uh kind of noisy,
- 3:47chaotic like feel to it. I would say, um, and like you
- 3:53know, he left things in, like you know, his his cat duty
- 3:57would be me owing in the room, and he would like leave that in
- 4:00the songs, you know, So it's got it's got like a different like
- 4:03kind of atmosphere to it for sure. Um. And then you know with
- 4:08Fat Chance, it's a lot more like straightforward, Like we said, it's
- 4:12kind of reads like when you listen to it, it's kind of like how
- 4:15we play the songs live. Like normally when we play there aren't really any
- 4:18like like chances to breathe in a sense because it's just like bam bam bam,
- 4:25like in your face. So you know, it's short and sweet and
- 4:28it's got a big, huge drum sound. Um, it's a lot more
- 4:31like uh, I guess i'd say, um, I don't know threat where
- 4:35it's like PIPI um, but you know we're using that beautiful studio space so
- 4:41um, you know there's fancy lights, fancy equipment and all that. Whereas
- 4:45Cancer Culture Club was kind of the endtip to that, right, So one
- 4:48of those lines like leaves me into the next question. You're normally very experimental
- 4:53in the study, guy, but this tom around you work to more conventional
- 4:56mains ius, So what was the reason behind that ever changing? That's really
- 5:01the thing. I don't ever like to stay stagnant with anything, so uh,
- 5:05like Dan said, the last record was a lot more, you know,
- 5:09home based, experimental, kind of throwing everything at the wall. Uh.
- 5:13And this one it's like, well, let's just do the complete opposite.
- 5:15Let's go to the nicest studio and use the best equipment and just complete
- 5:19opposite ends of the spectrum. So that's the one beautiful thing that I like
- 5:24about Flies is it's always it's always gonna be changing. It's never gonna be
- 5:28stagnant or stay the same with do the opposite. So next time I think
- 5:31he might just report on an Edison role. We'll see if we can do
- 5:35that. So you've had five of those stalls the home studio and do it
- 5:44in the studio. Say well, when it comes to the final product,
- 5:46how much of an influence do you think where you report it has? Um?
- 5:53I don't know. I mean like I like both. I like both
- 5:56spectrums. I like Prmadio and I also like uh the high Pie. I
- 6:00can go either way. UM. I think it really depends on the atmosphere
- 6:04that's built with the song. I feel like the songs that were written for
- 6:08Cancel Culture Club, they came from being in quarantine from the pandemic. So
- 6:12it was just very like I wanted it to feel very like chaotic but also
- 6:17very like homegrown, kind of like a panic attack on a recording um versus
- 6:23fat chance. That comes from more of you got the tour and you're out.
- 6:29We're you know, back on the road doing what we love to do.
- 6:31And this one just felt like, okay, well, like let's go
- 6:34all balls out, Like let's just let's go to the nicest place, let's
- 6:39let's change it up, let's try something new. So to me, it
- 6:43doesn't affect it at all. I mean, there's still flies songs regardless,
- 6:46regardless if they're recorded on the iPhone or they're recorded on a twenty thousand dollars
- 6:49mic. Yeah, so I notice that chance, which is pretty strange.
- 6:56Normally the album's named after one of the songs on it. So I'm guessing
- 7:00to spake to you guys for five minutes, I'm guessing is a pretty good
- 7:01story behind that will the album. The album game came after the songs the
- 7:10albums sings UM. I was on my way back home after our last in
- 7:15the studio. We had just finished mixing album, and I saw I might
- 7:19drive home a license play on a car on the side of the road that
- 7:24said at the chance, and um, that just kind of struck me.
- 7:28I just like building the blanks and uh text of its clinton to see what
- 7:30he thought, and he was down with it, and I felt like you
- 7:33could pull like multiple meanings out of it, you know. So it seemed
- 7:38to fit for for the sound of the record, and they kind of feel
- 7:43I guess right, I think, yeah, I don't know about over there,
- 7:46but just dry like fat chances to side. Like basically, if you're
- 7:50telling someone they got night chance of anything ever happened on deside or not,
- 7:55that's fat chance that happening. It is totally and that that kind of like
- 8:00played to the realm of the record, because I mean, the entire the
- 8:03entire career of the band has been people telling me that's not gonna happen.
- 8:07You're not gonna get signed to get on a rep. That's not gonna happen,
- 8:09You're not going to tour towards the US lights that you're never gonna work
- 8:13with the Melvin's recording with Buzz going on tour with him. It's just consistently
- 8:18going over people saying this isn't gonna work. So fat chance is a great
- 8:22way to just spit it back at him and be like, well, here's
- 8:24the third record you've done. You can only spell that yeah on a ratio
- 8:28title, No, I might be able to get. I think in the
- 8:33back covery we got to going up. I really do like on the back
- 8:37cover, I think it's two middle fingers. That's the fat miss on the
- 8:41back of two middle fingers. Awesome. So here's been a division question for
- 8:46you guys. This is only seven songs on the album, So these studies
- 8:50man like how many songs constitutes a EP and how many constitutes an album?
- 8:56Lige never does anything the right way, So I think that I think a
- 9:01full length album to me, at least from my perspective with the band is
- 9:07sets are normally twenty five minutes to thirty minutes, so I want to what
- 9:13we're currently doing and reflecting of that time period applies to reflect on the album.
- 9:18So I mean, if you do by chance, I mean, who
- 9:22knows I'm stream is song? So to me, I like, an LP
- 9:31for that's a long play is twenty five So that's about That's a lot.
- 9:37Why that's a lot of intensity coming at you. So for us, yeah,
- 9:41I feel like the LP word for the LP for me is just that's
- 9:46the chapter that we're currently in in the band, and this is what we
- 9:48have to offer currently. I also feel like, um, that kind of
- 9:52dialogue also, um, and it's coming about from like physicals too, and
- 9:58like now with like streaming in everything, Like I feel like a dialogue around
- 10:01like what constitutes an EP, what constitutes like an album has just kind of
- 10:05gone out the window and away, you know what I mean? Yeah,
- 10:09Yeah, there's that's That's what I said. It's such a busy question because
- 10:11there's you get all these people on their high horses say it's gotta have eight
- 10:16songs for me an album. It's like follow whatever the fuck I want you
- 10:18to say. I've won someone there and it's an album. Fuck you.
- 10:22Yeah, yeah, it's whatever I say for anyone out there listen to this.
- 10:30It may be unfamiliar with mister Flies, guys like tell us a bit
- 10:33more about the band if you sell them. Pitch introduces to the band.
- 10:37Uh, it's Hugliant, Uh bringing the rack of beautiful Ways You'll ever here.
- 10:43It's like parents out. That's crazy. It is. It's a it's
- 10:50an ever changing monster. It's what I've been saying recently. It's it's genre
- 10:54less in the sense because we kind of dabble in everything. I've always just
- 10:58been I love everything musically and I don't ever want to pigeon rolled anything.
- 11:03So you know, the next record could be a blue grass album for all
- 11:07I know. It's always gonna be every changing. Because I'm gonna say this
- 11:13is my first introduction to you guys, and rating through the press release,
- 11:16it classifies he was a noise rocks your but the listener the album, there's
- 11:20so much more gone on than that. It's it's it's a lot of intricate,
- 11:24interesting shit in there. Yeah. I mean, like like Clinton said,
- 11:28like we kind of just put all of our influences and the things that
- 11:31we like into like a blender in a way, like we don't do it
- 11:35consciously. It's just like whatever we think it's cool. You know. So
- 11:39falls for drink bright No, No, Yeah, I love it. Get
- 11:43that ship on. It's a lemon A in there. So you guys are
- 11:48up on the road suite with the Melvine's and Boris. So sounds like that's
- 11:52gonna be a fun show that could get messy. Yeah, absolutely, I
- 11:56mean, uh buzz in the Melbourne Gang have been nothing but kind to us.
- 12:03Uh, they've helped us with shows. They've they've thrown us on shows
- 12:05which our shows have gotten fucked up or canceled. So we're definitely really excited
- 12:11to do this tour with them because, hands down Melvine's is one of my
- 12:16favorite bands. They're incredibly nice people. I'm very excited to meet. Boris
- 12:20wants really indto playing Zelda right now, so I'm very hyped to place with
- 12:26Zelda with Wata, So I'm in it. I's next for mister Flies.
- 12:31After that, you guys go, Thanks the World Domination. You come in
- 12:35to visit usibe here eventually. Hell yeah, I'd love to come up in
- 12:39what part of Australia. I mean not Brisbane. It's like Queensland Brisbane.
- 12:45Okay. I got a friend lives in Adelight. I wouldn't be walking there
- 12:50anytime soon. It's a fairy I mean, I loved, I loved to
- 12:58come up in there. I think that would be I was just and he
- 13:00sent me a video of this this uh kangaroo you guys got over there called
- 13:03Roger the Kangaroo. Yeah, I haven't heard of him, but I'll say
- 13:09yes. Apparently he's like two hundred pounds of muscle. I could beat the
- 13:13shit out of him, That's all. I was thinking about stepping the ring
- 13:18a few times for some track practice sessions because I was fuck as a nasty
- 13:22kick back on. Now. They get back from their tail and they just
- 13:26run their clothes in that fucking shop, the scratchy guts out right like that,
- 13:30like they they look cool, but they're vicious as fuck. They looked
- 13:35terrifying and I really want to see one in person. But from behind the
- 13:39change link, Finn, you can go out there and mix with them,
- 13:43just don't buy them on the sile or anything. Yeah. One one very
- 13:52good guys was being a plush again, you knowicebut chance he's out now,
- 13:54and it was, yeah, bring me away, you guys. There's a
- 13:58really really quality album. So hopeful you hear more from me in the future.
- 14:03Yeah, we'll be popping over. We'll share, we'll McDonald's. If
- 14:05we come over, you bring I'll bring the rubbish. Actually, i'll bring
- 14:11the ship. You bring them back and Mack from the sip alright, boys,
- 14:18we'll chat with this letter. Thank you, Chris. Take care
