Transcript
- 0:00Grand Touring Motorsports started as a social group of car enthusiasts,
- 0:04but we've expanded into all sorts of motorsports disciplines, and we
- 0:08want to share our stories with you.
- 0:10Years of racing, wrenching, and motorsports experience brings
- 0:13together a top notch collection of knowledge and information
- 0:17through our podcast, Brake Fix.
- 0:22For many of us, oils and lubricants are just a bottle of brown liquid you
- 0:25put in your vehicle because that's what someone said you should do.
- 0:29Like your body, your vehicle, and especially your engine
- 0:33needs to be in good health.
- 0:34Which means understanding and choosing the right products as
- 0:37it's lifeblood.
- 0:38Founded in 1957, LiquiMoly has developed and produced oils and
- 0:42additives exclusively in Germany.
- 0:45With over 4, 000 products, they offer a wide range of automotive chemicals
- 0:50that are unique in terms of motor oils and additives, vehicle care.
- 0:55And service sprays, greases and pace, as well as adhesives and sealants.
- 0:59And with us to discuss the importance of these types of products is Rob
- 1:02Longo, regional sales manager for Liqui Moly covering Pennsylvania,
- 1:06New Jersey, and Delaware.
- 1:08So we want to welcome Rob to the show.
- 1:09Thanks for coming.
- 1:10Yeah, welcome.
- 1:11Hey guys, thanks a lot.
- 1:12I appreciate you having me on today.
- 1:14My first question for you would be, you know, how did you get into selling oils?
- 1:18Is that a lifelong dream?
- 1:20You wanted to sell oils and lubricants or?
- 1:23Uh, absolutely not.
- 1:24They're lubes and specialty products.
- 1:26Thank you very much.
- 1:27What was, was it your car?
- 1:29Are you a car enthusiast?
- 1:30First of all, you could just be a, an oil.
- 1:33Believe it or not, I am not a huge car enthusiast.
- 1:36I mean, I love seeing the cars I've seen over the last.
- 1:39Five years because I pretty much seen every Ferrari and Lamborghini
- 1:44and every cool thing in between traveling across the country.
- 1:48So I got into the business.
- 1:50I was in the heating oil and which was just selling one product.
- 1:54He
- 1:55was selling diesel
- 1:59and then I started, uh, you know, moved to a new company.
- 2:03They sold lubricants also.
- 2:05So I started to learn a little bit about lubricants and sold
- 2:08heating oil still most of the time.
- 2:10And then in 2010, I went to go work just strictly for a lubricants company.
- 2:15Uh, in Pennsylvania here.
- 2:17Pennsylvania, the Germany of the United States.
- 2:19Yeah, I get it.
- 2:22More Volkswagens here than anywhere.
- 2:24I, it is, it is true.
- 2:25You crossed the border and hit there everywhere.
- 2:28Was there for five and a half years, learned a lot about not only
- 2:31automotive, but on and off highway applications, industrial stuff.
- 2:35So just something that was a kind of cool niche kind of fit for me.
- 2:40And then, um, I was just, So fortunate to see that local Molly was hiring.
- 2:45And I, uh, didn't even know anything about them.
- 2:48So I actually saw their products at one of my customers.
- 2:52And I said, what is that stuff?
- 2:53He goes, this is the best oil I ever used.
- 2:55And I was selling another product and he would never touch it.
- 2:58And he said, He goes, I swear to God, this is the best stuff I've ever used.
- 3:02I, have no issues with this stuff.
- 3:04So I went on their website and I looked into it and then here I am five years
- 3:09later, so everything he said was true.
- 3:11That's where I, when I hear on everywhere, I guess.
- 3:15So Rob, the impetus behind this conversation is that, you know, most
- 3:18of us here at GTM are track rats and we are always in search of, you know, that.
- 3:23Next best thing, the thing that's going to make, you know, shave a 10th of a
- 3:27second off, that's going to give us that extra longevity on the engine.
- 3:30You know, we're always in search of cooler temperatures,
- 3:34especially when it comes to oils.
- 3:36So one of the things we were thinking was, you know, much to Brad's point at
- 3:39the beginning of the intro, it's because somebody told you to, and there's a lot of
- 3:43fundamentals that are left on the table.
- 3:45So I think we need to start from square one and talk about how.
- 3:49Not all oils are actually created equal.
- 3:52So let's discuss maybe some of the differences between conventional,
- 3:55mineral, synthetic, etc.
- 3:57Motor oils consist of base oils and there's five groups of base
- 4:01oils that make up motor oils.
- 4:04Group 1, 2, and 3 are what we would call conventional base oils.
- 4:09Those are the crude oils that are found from the ground.
- 4:12Group four is a synthetic base oil group.
- 4:16Four oils are PAO based.
- 4:19So those are the true synthetics.
- 4:22Those are basically crude products that are kind of torn
- 4:26apart, put back together again.
- 4:28And form a much better, more concise base oil and then group five is really
- 4:35a grouping of all other ones that can't be classified through one through four.
- 4:40So esters, glycols, so on and so the difference between these
- 4:44is then you have the refining of the conventional crude oils.
- 4:50Depending on how well they're refined, that gives you a different quality
- 4:54between group one, group two, and group three being the best of the three.
- 4:58So I'm just going to break it down to the basic between
- 5:01conventional and synthetic oils.
- 5:03I'll kind of simplify it a little bit more just to kind of keep it flowing
- 5:07and not get too overly technical.
- 5:09So mineral and conventional are one and the same.
- 5:11The main difference between conventional oil and synthetic oils is
- 5:15that
- 5:15The base oils that are used in conventional oils are from crude oil.
- 5:20Whereas the synthetic oils are manmade and manufactured to create a better, more
- 5:27stable environment for the additives that are going to be used with those base oils.
- 5:34So Rob, you touched on a couple of things there.
- 5:35You're talking about additives and the different base components
- 5:38of the oils themselves.
- 5:40What are the additives for?
- 5:41I've heard things like, you know, you hear the commercials all the
- 5:44time, makes your engine run cleaner and all these kinds of things.
- 5:47Are they detergents?
- 5:48Are they ways of changing the viscosity of the oil?
- 5:51Do they affect the temperature range of the oil?
- 5:53What are they all about?
- 5:54Yeah, so the additives that are used to create motor oils.
- 5:58Do a number of different things.
- 6:00There's detergents, there's dispersants, there's viscosity improvers,
- 6:06there's pour point additives.
- 6:08So these different additives are going to either let the oil flow
- 6:14at a colder temperature, remain more stable at a high temperature.
- 6:18They're going to help remove sludge, lacquer, varnish.
- 6:22They're going to prevent foaming.
- 6:24And there's tons of additives that do, um, you know, a lot of
- 6:28different jobs within the motor oil.
- 6:30So that is a very important piece when you're looking at which
- 6:33motor oils you do choose to use.
- 6:36So is more additives better or not necessarily?
- 6:40No, typically with most motor oil products, the base oil is
- 6:45about 80 percent of the oil and then 20 percent of the additives.
- 6:48So with all the different manufacturers, the additive packages really vary
- 6:56based on the manufacturers, the types of engines that you're putting the
- 7:00oil into, of course, what kind of conditions, you know, racing compared
- 7:04to street compared to daily driving.
- 7:07So there's a lot of factors that come into.
- 7:10How a manufacturer goes to create an oil and what audience they're
- 7:15really trying to target as well.
- 7:17But most of the time, like I said, it's probably like an 80, 20, 75,
- 7:2225 percent split between base oil.
- 7:25The obvious base oils for certain manufacturers, let's just say mobile one,
- 7:30they're going to get it from Exxon and Rotella is going to get it from shell.
- 7:33Right.
- 7:34And I'm sure BP has a, has a line of oils as well.
- 7:37Where is Liqui Moly getting its base oil from before it starts?
- 7:41Or is that kind of super secret information?
- 7:44We do not drill.
- 7:45We, we do no exploration if you will.
- 7:48So we buy the base oil and additives that are on the market.
- 7:52We choose to buy the best available of both so that we could make
- 7:57a better product as far as not necessarily against the competition.
- 8:02We make every product ourselves in Germany.
- 8:05We do not contract any of our products out to other blenders throughout the world.
- 8:09We make everything in Germany.
- 8:11So that product that you're going to get in Philadelphia is going
- 8:15to be the same one in Stuttgart.
- 8:17In Moscow and Alaska and South Africa, wherever you are, that Lysol
- 8:22off five W 40 or that Molly gen five W 30, whatever product it is.
- 8:27It all comes over from Germany to wherever it's going to finally land.
- 8:32So we take a lot of pride in making our own motor oils
- 8:36because it's quality assurance.
- 8:38You know, we know exactly what that product is going to be everywhere.
- 8:42You know, that's, that's really just an important piece of our, of our
- 8:46company that we're really proud of.
- 8:47proud of, but for us, as far as something that is going to hold up and give you the
- 8:55peace of mind and the results that you're basically looking for in an engine oil.
- 9:00So we're going to create a product that offers the most protection and
- 9:04fits your vehicle the best that we can.
- 9:07Now, the thought of putting more additives into anything
- 9:11doesn't make it a better product.
- 9:13It has to adhere to all the different specifications of the manufacturer.
- 9:17So, they may not want that much detergent in that particular oil,
- 9:22or they may not want this or that.
- 9:25their oil is where another manufacturer would say, yo, we really want that.
- 9:29That's why you see so many different oils out there to begin with, because
- 9:33there's really a lot of different moving pieces, if you will, with all the
- 9:37manufacturers and what their demands are.
- 9:40We base our products on what the manufacturer.
- 9:44So it's a great segue into my next question, spec oils, right?
- 9:48So for those of us with European cars, more specifically German cars in the last
- 9:5415 years, if not longer, there's been a lot of mandates to use specific or spec
- 10:00oils for certain engines for certain cars.
- 10:03And so they have very strict requirements on what you should
- 10:06choose and what you should use.
- 10:08So how do you know?
- 10:10Yeah, I bought a used Porsche or a Volkswagen or a Mercedes.
- 10:13How do I know?
- 10:14Where do I find this information?
- 10:15And what does that spec actually mean?
- 10:17And is there any cross compatibility and how do I find out if the Liqui
- 10:21Moly products are compatible or the right oil for those applications?
- 10:25So do you want to kind of unpack that for us a little bit?
- 10:28Yeah, sure.
- 10:28So, so first of all, Liqui Moly offers a online Pretty much every vehicle is
- 10:36covered that, that we have access to as far as all the information, which will
- 10:40break down not only the engine oils, but your gear oils, your transmission fluids
- 10:46and power, steel and fluid, for instance, and some other when you're buying a car.
- 10:50And the first thing that probably only going to have is the manual more or less.
- 10:54And it's going to tell you, okay, let's use Volkswagen for an example.
- 10:59And it's going to, you have a 2005.
- 11:02Jetta gasoline and is, let's just say it's requiring a VW 502 specification.
- 11:10So we have products that will list all the approvals that we
- 11:15have by each of the manufacturers.
- 11:17Some products are more specific to one or two applications.
- 11:21Some are multiple applications, um, that not only cover one manufacturer,
- 11:27but several manufacturers.
- 11:29So the first thing that you would do is you would just enter your car
- 11:33information and then a list of oils would come up that would be the
- 11:36appropriate oils for your vehicle.
- 11:39Secondly, you really need to be aware of what the specifications are for
- 11:45your vehicle because There's been plenty of times I've spoken, uh, you
- 11:50know, I've met you guys at BAG Fair.
- 11:52I do shows all over, you know, the Northeast every year.
- 11:56You know, the first thing they said is, oh, I just use a 5W30.
- 11:59And they don't know which kind.
- 12:03Most of the times it's the wrong kind when they do tell me what brand they're using.
- 12:07So it's very important because they're not equal, that there's not one fits
- 12:11all for any of these categories.
- 12:13So
- 12:14when you're talking about the right application for the vehicle, I'm going to
- 12:19assume that most Liqui Moly products are probably synthetics, not a conventional
- 12:23oil, like a Pennzoil or Valvoline or what a Quaker state, that kind of thing.
- 12:27So what if your vehicle was originally equipped with the conventional oil?
- 12:30Is there a conversion there to the Liqui Moly?
- 12:33Is there a Is there a reason people should be apprehensive to switch?
- 12:37The rule of thumb with converting from a conventional to a synthetic is
- 12:42really based on the age of the vehicle.
- 12:44Probably when you're talking about, you know, 70 or 1970s, 1980s, up to the
- 12:50late 80s, You should use a conventional product because of the seals and the
- 12:55gaskets that were used at that time.
- 12:57If there's any compatibility issues, then, you know, you're going to have
- 13:01issues with your vehicle, of course.
- 13:02So we basically like to say that you're probably looking at mid to late
- 13:07nineties, as far as using synthetics.
- 13:09Um, Where we feel comfortable enough that we would say that's appropriate.
- 13:14Uh, and once again, the best thing to use is our oil guide, because it will
- 13:18tell you yes or no, we do make other products other than full synthetics.
- 13:24Now we only offer a couple in the United States and, but they are
- 13:28geared towards older vehicles.
- 13:30So we make a 20 W 50, for instance, and a 15 W 40 and a 10 W 40.
- 13:36And those products are either.
- 13:38conventional mineral oils or a semi synthetic in the 1040 case.
- 13:43So, so that's really where you want to start.
- 13:46It's not something that you're automatically going to say, okay, now
- 13:49I, you know, everything's synthetic.
- 13:50I want to put it in my 85 Prada or something to that effect.
- 13:54So, you know, it's, you have to be really careful with that.
- 13:57And those oils there do offer the mineral oils and those
- 14:01applications are to be for those
- 14:03cars for sure.
- 14:04And I also heard Just to, to throw something else out there right now,
- 14:08uh, that if you do make the switch, say your car is able to run, run
- 14:12and, uh, use, uh, the synthetic.
- 14:14I've always been told it could be an old wives tale that you can't
- 14:18ever go back to conventional once you make the switch to synthetic.
- 14:21No, that's not true.
- 14:22Basically, all you have to do is flush your engine and you
- 14:25could, could go back and forth.
- 14:27There's typically no reason to do so, but you know, you should
- 14:30really stick to one or the other.
- 14:32And if it allows for synthetic synthetic's usually gonna be deep.
- 14:35The best product for the
- 14:37vehicle and to Brad's point, so for the racers that are listening, you
- 14:40know, there's a lot of rules to with building new motors, fresh engine.
- 14:44So, you know, if you're having it done professionally, you
- 14:46know, listen to your builder.
- 14:47They're going to tell you what to use.
- 14:49I went through this myself with a, with a professionally built engine
- 14:52where, you know, I had to start with break in for a very short period
- 14:55of time, then go to conventional.
- 14:57Then I had to use diesel.
- 14:59Then I had to go, like you had to build up to like a fully ester based synthetic.
- 15:05You could not go from day one all the way to that cycle oil.
- 15:08So there's something to be said about those transitions
- 15:11and building those steps.
- 15:11A lot of it has to do with seeding the rings and like, to your point,
- 15:15new seals and all that kind of stuff.
- 15:16So, you know, talk to different people about that.
- 15:18And obviously, you know, Liqui Moly is going to have different
- 15:20products along the way.
- 15:21You might not start with a Liqui Moly product, you know, you're breaking oil
- 15:26Or whatever it might be, but eventually you will build up to those higher end
- 15:30oils that are going to be better for your engine, you know, in the long run,
- 15:34especially in a track type of application.
- 15:36But I think you hit on something really important though, and it's kind of innate.
- 15:41In the language of oils, we're always shouting out these 10 W and five W and
- 15:47zero and this and that, all these numbers.
- 15:49And I think confusion is always wrapped around that.
- 15:52What does that actually mean?
- 15:54And why have the oil numbers and ratings?
- 15:57change so much in the last five years?
- 15:59Yeah, it's a great question, and we'll start with basically
- 16:03what those numbers mean.
- 16:05So we'll use a five W 30 for an example.
- 16:09So the first number five W that's what they used to call the winter weight.
- 16:14So that's the viscosity of the oil when it's cold.
- 16:17So you want a thinner oil when it's cold, when you start the engine.
- 16:22So it reaches the furthest lubrication point as quickly as possible.
- 16:26The second number, the 30 is when the temperature, when the engine
- 16:30is at operating temperatures.
- 16:33And you want the oil to be thick enough.
- 16:36So it goes from low to high.
- 16:38So think five as being water and maybe 30 as being honey.
- 16:42It will start to thicken.
- 16:43And then when it's thicker at operating temperatures, it's going to create
- 16:47what we call boundary lubrication.
- 16:49That's going to keep those parts from sliding against each other.
- 16:54It provides a wedge between all the moving parts.
- 16:58Throughout the engine.
- 16:59And it's interesting you bring that up because that's chemically the
- 17:02opposite for any of the foodies out there that are listening of what you
- 17:06would experience in your kitchen.
- 17:07I was just about to say, that's the exact opposite of what I thought it was doing.
- 17:11Right.
- 17:12Because you know, when you're in the kitchen and you, you get a bottle
- 17:15of olive oil or canola or Wesson or whatever, you know, corn oil, they all
- 17:19have different viscosities because as you heat them up, they get thinner.
- 17:23So it's kind of interesting that as you heat up motor
- 17:25oil, it actually thickens up.
- 17:27Yeah, right, right.
- 17:28So, right, you know, it's, um, you know, the most important thing is just to get
- 17:32that oil moving as quickly as possible.
- 17:34And then at the operating temperatures to protect the engine as best as
- 17:39possible.
- 17:39And you know what else adds a layer of confusion for anybody
- 17:42that's listening to this.
- 17:43I'm sure now they're going, wait, the oil thickens as heatens, but my oil pressure
- 17:47gauge is high when it's cold and it's low.
- 17:51When it's hot.
- 17:52So it's all kind of down.
- 17:56Yeah, exactly.
- 17:57So, you know, that's really basically how the, uh, that number system works
- 18:02to your, um, question about seeing the numbers getting smaller and smaller.
- 18:07Zero W 20 way is really the main oil of these days.
- 18:11And it's really come around to the European models now as well.
- 18:14So that is just based on they're building Smaller engines that are putting out more
- 18:20power, more heat, the oil needs to flow.
- 18:23The tolerances are much tighter now.
- 18:26I know everyone that I talked to thinks, Oh my God, it's crazy.
- 18:29What's it going to be next?
- 18:30Water, you know, it's getting so thin going back to our, you know, our first
- 18:35conversation about, you know, base oils and additives that they are so well made
- 18:40these days that they can really hold up to pretty much anything that you throw
- 18:45at.
- 18:46Um, well, I've got two questions off of this conversation.
- 18:49First one is what viscosity would you say is like the most common?
- 18:55Like I, when I look around and seeing people change their
- 18:58oil, everybody's buying 5w30.
- 19:00It seems like that's like the most common viscosity.
- 19:03And then my next question is if you're in a pinch, you're stranded,
- 19:08you need oil somewhere, If they say they don't have what your, what
- 19:12your manufacturer recommends, which way do you go one way or the other?
- 19:15If they have something like, how would you base what your emergency oil is?
- 19:21If you don't have what the actual manufacturer spec is.
- 19:25So over the last few years, I would say 5W 30 and 0W 20 are probably the top two
- 19:32viscosities that we see out in the market.
- 19:34If you're talking European, there's still quite a bit of 5W 40 that's there and is,
- 19:39and is approved for, for use right now.
- 19:41So the question that you ask Brad is, is not a yes or no or simple answer.
- 19:47Because let's use an example.
- 19:50Let's use a, a more modern car a a 2015 VW Jet.
- 19:55Okay?
- 19:56Engine doesn't matter.
- 19:57It's calling for a 5 0 2 oil spec in the world of Volkswagen, zero W 30, a
- 20:03five W, 30 A zero W 40, and a five W 40.
- 20:07Can all carry that same approval.
- 20:09I know that's not going to help the layman out there much if they're trying
- 20:13to decide what they're looking for, but that's why it's really important to know
- 20:17what oil is for your vehicle, because you obviously don't want to cause damage.
- 20:22Yeah, I
- 20:22don't want to say in a pinch do whatever you need to do,
- 20:25obviously, instead of a specific.
- 20:27Oh, well, if you've got a 5w30 and they don't have it go to a 520 or
- 20:31something, would the recommendation be to go like a thinner oil or a thicker?
- 20:36So to go with what Brad's saying, uh, not to steal, you know, Rob's thunder
- 20:40here, but I've always heard that you based it on the second number.
- 20:43So if you can find something else, that's a 30.
- 20:46It doesn't matter if it's a zero or a five, you're still looking at the
- 20:49card operating temperature more than at cold temperature in most cases.
- 20:54So go with a 30, go with something that matches the second
- 20:56number as much as possible.
- 20:58And if you're going to go and correct me if I'm wrong, Rob, if you can't find, you
- 21:03go up, you go thicker instead of thinner.
- 21:05Correct.
- 21:05Don't go lower.
- 21:07Yeah, you never go on.
- 21:08You're not getting proper lubrication.
- 21:09Yeah, because then you could really, you could get some, you could really
- 21:12do some damage to your engine.
- 21:14Thicker is going to be fine.
- 21:15And if it's something like you can't find a European oil for that, then,
- 21:20then you can use a 5W 30 in a pinch that's designed for Asian and American.
- 21:27So just to, just to clarify, because we, I think we've touched
- 21:29on this, but just for our audience.
- 21:31The smaller the number, basically the thinner the oil.
- 21:34Let's just put it that way to keep it simple, correct?
- 21:38So some of the older numbers are starting five, you know, 15 W 50, and
- 21:43like all the, you're starting to be harder and harder to find those numbers.
- 21:46So in those cases, to your point, go back, talk to your builder, look at the
- 21:50motor, see what the seals can tolerate, go to thinner oils, but again, we can
- 21:54mix and match and things like that.
- 21:55You're right.
- 21:56You're seeing a lot of zeros out there.
- 21:57I happen to use zero W 50.
- 21:5940 myself seems to be the best range for some of the older
- 22:01Volkswagens, especially the VR sixes.
- 22:03But the question is with all these oils and all these weights, you know, we
- 22:07understand there's different additives.
- 22:09We understand there's different flow rates and things like that.
- 22:11Does it change the heat tolerance of the oil?
- 22:14That was the other wives tales about the weight is a thicker oil can withstand
- 22:18more heat, you know, things like that.
- 22:20Is that true?
- 22:20Or is that just a myth?
- 22:22So to my knowledge, it's always been a myth.
- 22:24It goes into the design of the products themselves.
- 22:27So if that particular oil has an additive package, there's technical information
- 22:32as far as what kind of temperature ranges oils have and things like that.
- 22:36But typically it's just going to be the way that the products are made now,
- 22:40that those additives in the base oil, it doesn't matter as far as that goes.
- 22:47It's really more of a myth.
- 22:48And then there's, then there's the other one, right?
- 22:52You guys out there, you know who you are when I'm about to say what I'm about to
- 22:56say, there's those guys that are like, I put Rotella and everything doesn't
- 22:59matter what it is, what year it is.
- 23:01I just buy 5 gallons of Rotella from tractor supply.
- 23:04And that's what I put in the car.
- 23:05And I cringe every time I hear that.
- 23:08Whatever.
- 23:10I'm a little bit more specific, you know, in my applications, but that's a lot
- 23:15of times people don't realize either.
- 23:17You know, there's the blue Rotel on the white Rotel and that's gas versus diesel.
- 23:21And a lot of people will throw diesel oil in a gas motor and you hear people
- 23:26fight back and forth about that.
- 23:27The advantages of diesel oil over over gas oil, you know, all these kinds of things.
- 23:31And so let's kind of dispel some of those.
- 23:34Myths as well, but also talk about, you know, the good, the bad, the
- 23:37indifferent of just using, okay, I just buy five gallons of the same oil and I
- 23:41use the same thing all over the place.
- 23:43Yeah.
- 23:43And you know, it's a common question when I'm at a shop or I'm at an event,
- 23:48the main differences between a gas engine oil and a diesel engine oil
- 23:53is something called the SAPS level.
- 23:55It's sulfated ash phosphorus and sulfur and gasoline engines.
- 24:01Like more saps than diesel engines, particularly now the clean burning
- 24:06diesel engines with the DPF filters.
- 24:09So that's why it's extremely important to know which product you're using.
- 24:13I don't recommend a domestic diesel.
- 24:16Oil in a European car, because it does not have any approvals.
- 24:21It's not recommended for those applications.
- 24:24And you could have issues, you know, if we're talking about racing and
- 24:27there's no catalytic converter, or, you know, we understand that.
- 24:31And we had that conversation quite a bit, but I I'm speaking to the daily
- 24:35driver, as much as I am speaking to someone that's on the track.
- 24:38And the bottom line is that when those additive packages are
- 24:41incorrect for your car, that's when you're going to have issues with.
- 24:46More sludge, more lacquer, more varnish, loss of performance.
- 24:50And then, like I said, it's, it's going to hit you in the, in the exhaust
- 24:53as well, because that is something that is not supposed to be in there.
- 24:57And that car was not made to take that product, you know,
- 25:00that particular type of oil.
- 25:02So extremely important, you know, years and years ago, it was much
- 25:06more lenient as far as, okay, you could throw something in everything.
- 25:11And that was.
- 25:11really the way it was, but over the last 20 years, particularly, you
- 25:16need to be exact with what your car requires because you can prematurely
- 25:22damage your engine at night.
- 25:25So try to save you some money and, you know, try to look out for it
- 25:29because that's something that it's a huge expense and, and, you know,
- 25:32oil in the grand scheme of things.
- 25:34It's not that expensive, no matter which brand you're
- 25:38loyal to or which one you buy.
- 25:40I mean, we know we love you to buy ours.
- 25:41We know it's a little bit expensive, but the point of it is that we're making
- 25:45products because we know that they are approved by the manufacturers for those
- 25:50applications.
- 25:50Absolutely.
- 25:51And I think a lot of people don't realize that there's spec oil for
- 25:54diesels as well, especially Europeans.
- 25:56I mean, I happen to have been through a bunch myself.
- 25:58I've got a Jeep.
- 25:59That's got a VM Motori diesel in it.
- 26:02So that the diesel grand Cherokee, that's not a Benz motor, but
- 26:05the Benz CRDs are out there.
- 26:06Volkswagen's have specific diesel oils, the Audi's all that kind of stuff.
- 26:09The Porsche's, you know, anybody that's running a European diesel, you got to make
- 26:13sure you pay attention to that spec other things I've learned about these oils along
- 26:17the way is they're very high in zinc.
- 26:20Right.
- 26:20And so, like I mentioned before in a race motor, I used a European spec
- 26:25diesel oil in my race motor because it was a benefit to the rings to
- 26:29seat them on a brand new engine.
- 26:31But you only kept it in there for like 500 miles.
- 26:33You're doing like 10 oil changes in a thousand miles, you know,
- 26:36type of deal, but it makes all the difference in the world.
- 26:38So, but the other thing too was I had to run the car hard.
- 26:41And I also noticed something that is true even in my Jeep is that Diesel oils have
- 26:47a very wide and varying heat range and they do not hold up well on the track.
- 26:53So if you're a track rat and you're buying five gallons of Rotella, be
- 26:56careful with that because it's very easy to hit 300 degrees because that diesel
- 27:00oil does not do well with high heat.
- 27:03The same is true.
- 27:03I experimented with oils that fit my VM Motori V6 turbo diesel.
- 27:08And I found one that dropped me almost 20 degrees under load, you know, towing
- 27:12up a hill, going to Watkins Glen.
- 27:14And I was like, this is the one, this is the one that's going to work.
- 27:16Because again, I'm trying to save the engine, you know, from all that
- 27:19extra stress and everything I'm doing.
- 27:21So I think it's, to your point, it's super important to look into that stuff.
- 27:24Some of it might be trial and error, you know, maybe Liqui Moly checks the boxes.
- 27:29Maybe it doesn't, you know, but you gotta have, you know, Data to support
- 27:33what you're doing, not just kind of blindly saying, Oh, I'm just going
- 27:35to put in whatever and it'll work.
- 27:37Right.
- 27:38Right.
- 27:38Correct.
- 27:39And to your point on that also is a 15 W 40 is a mineral oil.
- 27:44Most of the time to this day, they're going to break down
- 27:47faster than a synthetic one.
- 27:48They're not made for heat.
- 27:50Like you said, you know, so they're, they're, they're going to break down.
- 27:54They're going to oxidize.
- 27:55And then you're going to have those issues, which you're talking about.
- 27:59And now in a track environment, you know, you're warming up your car.
- 28:03You're not just leaving the driveway to go right onto the track.
- 28:06So, but in normal life, those oils will break down sooner because they're
- 28:12not very well made to take the cold.
- 28:15And they're not very well made to take the heat.
- 28:17It's very important and you should definitely look into
- 28:21products that have a long history.
- 28:23You know, our products have been around since 1957.
- 28:26So we've had a lot of R& D.
- 28:29They've been on the track.
- 28:30Our products are the same products that we use for the daily driver as the track.
- 28:34And that's really important to us.
- 28:35You know, we don't make a racing oil because our regular oil is our racing oil.
- 28:40It's that good and it's holed up and we do dinos and we do a lot of testing with it.
- 28:44So invest in your oil.
- 28:45I think that's the most important message here.
- 28:47Don't.
- 28:48Don't just go with whatever anyone said to you.
- 28:51It's okay to break some trends down.
- 28:57I think you brought up two, two kind of fun questions based on that.
- 29:00Would you pull the drain plug on your motor and run your liquid,
- 29:04you know, your engine on just whatever's left of liquid Molly in it.
- 29:07Is that advisable in any case?
- 29:09I would not advise anyone to do that,
- 29:11but if I was going to do it, I would probably add our MOS2 additive first
- 29:17with the oil, because that will give you a little bit extra protection.
- 29:21You know, it's a funny thing.
- 29:22When I first started, we actually had, we still have a campaign call.
- 29:25I, I use it and that could be for a consumer, a shop doesn't matter.
- 29:30We had a, we had a gentleman out in California that did an
- 29:33oil change on a Honda Civic and.
- 29:36He went something to, I want to say about five or 600 miles and realized
- 29:41he'd never put any oil in the car.
- 29:42He only put the MOS to add it and he had no issues whatsoever,
- 29:47which was just that's amazing.
- 29:49And, um, I mean, we do not recommend that do not do that at home.
- 29:54And that was, that was really a jab at those commercials from
- 29:57like the early 2000s, if you remember what I'm talking about.
- 30:00But the other thing is, you know, in that same kind of, you know,
- 30:02comedic vein, I've seen a lot on Instagram and I don't remember if
- 30:06it's Liquimal and you can correct me.
- 30:08Are you guys the ones showing a green oil or is that just photoshopped?
- 30:13No, that's Molly Jen.
- 30:14Yeah, that's our Molly Jen line of oils.
- 30:17And that contains a fluorescent dye, which is great for leak
- 30:21detection, believe it or not.
- 30:23So when you first put it in the vehicle, you know, you use a black
- 30:26light and you could detect it.
- 30:28physical leaks from the vehicle.
- 30:29It doesn't last very, very long.
- 30:32So, you know, you need to do it right when you, when you put the oil in.
- 30:35The Molygen oil is, is a very good product.
- 30:38It contains an additive already in it, an anti friction additive.
- 30:42We've had a lot of success with that, you know, on the performance side.
- 30:45People really like it.
- 30:46Uh, and we make viscosities from zero 20 up to five W 50.
- 30:50And that's a very good product.
- 30:52Yeah, for sure.
- 30:53For me, that would
- 30:53be super confusing if my power steering pump was leaking because power
- 30:57steering fluid I use is dark green.
- 30:59So I'm like, wait a minute.
- 31:02Well, even, even to your point there, even some of the, you know, some
- 31:06of the manufacturers themselves, the automotive manufacturers.
- 31:10Audi Volkswagen, for instance, one of their oils has to have a green dye.
- 31:14It's something that we are starting to see a little bit more
- 31:17of the, I guess, the OEMs, if you want to say, the manufacturers
- 31:20themselves using some coloring.
- 31:22And it makes sense too, I guess.
- 31:24Which brings up a really great point.
- 31:25Are there any cars from the factory coming with Liqui Moly on board?
- 31:29No, we do, we do not, um, we don't have a, uh, a factory fill program.
- 31:34If you will, our products can be used for factory fill.
- 31:37If need be most of the times, most of the manufacturers have
- 31:40several oil companies that they'll use depending on where they are.
- 31:43So we don't write it anywhere on the cap or anything like that.
- 31:47We're, we're not a, an official global partner.
- 31:51We do have the approval.
- 31:52So that's something that, you know, we like just to focus more on.
- 31:56Building a better product and making sure that we have the best approved
- 32:01product that we could come out with.
- 32:02And I think that's really, you know, over the last five years,
- 32:05I've been with the company.
- 32:06You know, the feedback I get is the reason I love my job.
- 32:09I could tell you everything until I'm blue in the face, but it's,
- 32:13it's the people I meet at bag fair or impact up at Pocono Raceway.
- 32:18Waterfest shops.
- 32:20I go into going to pick up my dry cleaning.
- 32:23I had a guy like I love your products, you know, and I said, thank you.
- 32:27You know, I mean, that's that is the, um,
- 32:30as we wrap up this segment.
- 32:31I have 1 more question before we go into the next 1.
- 32:33you know, we talked about additives earlier on and you
- 32:36mentioned street and track.
- 32:38So are there specific additives, you know, since you said you have kind of
- 32:42based one base oil for everything, you know, there isn't a race oil versus the
- 32:45street oil, it is the one stop shop.
- 32:48Are there certain additives you would recommend for street use
- 32:51over track use or vice versa?
- 32:53So we'll talk about engine oil additives.
- 32:55Of course.
- 32:55I mean, like we, we make 4, 000 products as you has mentioned in the opener.
- 33:00So for our engine oil additives, we have the MOS two anti friction.
- 33:05Engine oil treatment, and we have serotech.
- 33:07The MOS2 is the moly and lipo moly.
- 33:10It's what started the company.
- 33:12It originally started as an ad.
- 33:13Any of you chemists, it's molybdenum disulfide.
- 33:17It's very similar to graphite, if you will.
- 33:19So if you've ever felt graphite, it's very slick and slippery, but
- 33:22it stays in place for a very long
- 33:24time.
- 33:24That product could be used in any engine, from basically any timeframe.
- 33:28It could be a gas, it could be diesel.
- 33:30To get to your point as far as what's better for daily driving
- 33:34or track or whatever the case is, it really depends on what you're
- 33:38doing and the age of the vehicle.
- 33:39So for track purposes, if you're doing drag racing, we typically recommend
- 33:44MOS2 because you're going to be changing the oil out more frequently.
- 33:48If you're using it for a couple of days and you're going to drain
- 33:51it out, it's just, all you have to do is just, you know, replenish it
- 33:54the next time you change your oil.
- 33:56Cause it will all fall out when you do your oil change.
- 33:58Now, Ceratec is a little bit different technology.
- 34:01It's a ceramic based technology.
- 34:03So that will actually adhere to all the, it will plate itself to all
- 34:07the metal throughout the engine.
- 34:09It takes heat and pressure for that to set up properly, which
- 34:12will take a few hundred miles.
- 34:14For you to use that in a drag racing scenario, for instance, it's not going
- 34:19to do you any good because it's just.
- 34:21Not going to have time to set up.
- 34:22But it's like three sessions in road racing.
- 34:25So you're good to go there.
- 34:26You're good to all day.
- 34:27Yeah.
- 34:28Right.
- 34:28So the beauty of that product is that that plating onto the metal
- 34:32will last up to 30, 000 miles.
- 34:34Now I know we don't keep files, but 30, 000 or every fourth oil changes
- 34:39our rule of thumb as far as using Sarah tech, and that does a great job.
- 34:44And now I'm going to kind of go back to what you're trying,
- 34:47what you're asking a little bit.
- 34:48Because the additives really do help in keeping your engine temperatures lower,
- 34:53gaining a slight bit of horsepower.
- 34:55When you keep things from sliding against each other, you're creating
- 34:58less heat, lower operating temperatures.
- 35:01So you're going to get some noticeable differences when you use some
- 35:06of the additives with our oils.
- 35:08A lot of times the oils do a great job on their own, but.
- 35:11The additives with the oil is making it just a credible product.
- 35:15So let's unpack that just for a second.
- 35:17So you would not make sero tech and M.
- 35:19O.
- 35:19S.
- 35:19two, right?
- 35:20It's one.
- 35:20You would not.
- 35:21Okay.
- 35:22The reason why you wouldn't because they're competing for the same
- 35:26amount of space within the engine.
- 35:28So if you already had MOS2 in there, the Ceratec would have nothing to cling on to,
- 35:33and you would have spent a good amount of money for nothing, you know, and you don't
- 35:38want to, you don't want to combine them.
- 35:41If you haven't made the switch to Liqui Moly yet, can you still use
- 35:45MOS2 or Ceratec with a competing oil?
- 35:47Well, it's still working.
- 35:48Yeah.
- 35:49Uh, those products are completely safe with any conventional or
- 35:53synthetic oils that are on the market.
- 35:55So you're absolutely can use the additives alone and not have to use the engine oils.
- 36:01We obviously think it's the ultimate package if you use our stuff
- 36:04altogether, but there's no reason why you should not be able to use, uh,
- 36:09you know, you're, you're more than able to use our additives in any.
- 36:13Now in the advent of more and more engines, like you said, smaller engines
- 36:17making more horsepower, that's basically because of more and more turbochargers
- 36:21being introduced since the early 2000s, especially on street cars, which is
- 36:26the preferred additive, or is there yet another additive specifically
- 36:29for forced induction vehicles that help with some of the heat that we
- 36:33end up with with a turbocharger?
- 36:35Well, the MOS two and the, uh, Sarah tech are going to do a really good job
- 36:40of getting with throughout all of the oil lines and throughout the entire system.
- 36:44So that's going to be your, pretty much your first step as far as
- 36:48really trying to help as far as protecting it as best as you can from
- 36:53the heat that you're dealing with.
- 36:54And I
- 36:54bring that up.
- 36:55I bring that up because a lot of people do not realize.
- 36:57You know, they bought a car with the turbo and they're like, wow, instant
- 37:00power and all these kinds of things.
- 37:02They are more often than not oil cooled and sometimes hybrid oil
- 37:05and water cooled, depending on the manufacturer, the turbo and whatnot.
- 37:09So again, this all leads in that conversation is, you know, learning
- 37:11a little bit more about your, your engine bay and what's going
- 37:14on in there, but oil is vital.
- 37:16It is literally the lifeblood of your motor.
- 37:18So it's important to have the right products in there and protecting that.
- 37:21Again, kind of going back, would you prefer one over
- 37:24the other for a turbo motor?
- 37:25Would it be the Sarotech over?
- 37:27The modern vehicles, we really like using Sarotech and your everyday
- 37:32application, or like I had said, your more endurance track racing, things
- 37:36like that, because it's really going to have the time to set up properly.
- 37:39You're not.
- 37:40ever going to be wrong with using the MOS2 additive as well.
- 37:44It somewhat comes down to, you know, how often you change your oil and
- 37:48some of these other things that, you know, that are individual.
- 37:51So if you're changing your oil every 3000 miles, even though you don't
- 37:55need to do that for a daily driver, you know, oil drain intervals were
- 37:5910, 000 miles or whatever they are.
- 38:01They've been tested on turbos over and over.
- 38:04So we have.
- 38:05That's on all of our product information sheets, that's perfectly
- 38:08safe for those applications.
- 38:10And they're both going to do an excellent job.
- 38:12You just Saratec with that plating and in the other areas of the engine really
- 38:16does provide that extra protection where the MOS2 does a nice, well,
- 38:21general, you know, coverage as far as comparing the two with each other.
- 38:25So how often does Liqui Moly recommend changing oil on a
- 38:29vehicle 5, 000, 10, 000 more?
- 38:33I think the old adage was.
- 38:35You know, with conventional oils back in the day, it was every 3, 000 miles.
- 38:38You had to change your oil.
- 38:39Obviously times are different now with technology and everything.
- 38:42So our oils are designed to meet the manufacturer's recommended oil trade.
- 38:50So we have an approved product for a particular Mercedes model, and it says
- 38:55that the 10, 000 mile oil change that oil is designed to go 10, 000 miles.
- 39:01Now oil changes, you know, to an individual, you know, if you do
- 39:05a more or less, that's up to you.
- 39:07You also have to take in consideration what kind of driving you're doing
- 39:11now, you know, there's severe There's moderate and there's light driving.
- 39:16Highway miles is light driving.
- 39:18It's not a lot of wear on the engine.
- 39:20Stop and go in New York City is severe.
- 39:23Your manual will tell you, okay, 10, 000 for light, 70, all right, these are
- 39:28examples of course, so about 10, 75, 800, and then maybe 5, 000 for severe.
- 39:34Pretty much standard across most of the manufacturer's
- 39:37information that I've come across.
- 39:38So what you could do if you want to.
- 39:41Test your boundaries is oil analysis, oil test.
- 39:46We have oil testing, but it has to go all the way back to Germany.
- 39:49So I think the best way is our friends at Blackstone that everyone uses.
- 39:53I mean, there are neutral companies, so you just send your, you send your stuff
- 39:58there and you get a great result back.
- 40:00Or, I mean, my company car is a 2015 Honda CRV.
- 40:05the 10, 000 mile oil change interval.
- 40:08I have 172, 000 miles on it.
- 40:10I sent my oil for analysis at 10, 000 and they said I could go to
- 40:1512, 000 with a Liqui Moly product.
- 40:17It's our AA020 for Asian and American vehicles.
- 40:22But
- 40:22for those that haven't done an oil test before, what's the expectation?
- 40:25What are they going to get back from Blackstone as a result?
- 40:28What's it going to tell them?
- 40:29You know, first of all, they put a nice paragraph on top and they kind of explain,
- 40:33you know, what's going on, you know, so they'll say, okay, everything looks good.
- 40:37You know, there might be a little bit of a fuel dilution or there might be
- 40:40some little minor things here and there, but otherwise everything looks good.
- 40:44They're going to break down what the measurements below
- 40:46that paragraph will say.
- 40:48And that's going to tell you.
- 40:49Basically what your additive package still is within the engine
- 40:53oil, it's going to tell you that.
- 40:56And then it's also going to see if there's wear metals that are being produced.
- 40:59Okay.
- 41:00So if there's a lot of iron, they're going to say, okay, you have an issue here.
- 41:04They might tell you to shorten your oil change interval, or, you know, maybe
- 41:08recommend using another product or whatever the case is, but they have the
- 41:12basic data of, of the products already.
- 41:15Right.
- 41:15So they're just measuring it against what the basis and what the normal
- 41:19ranges should be for those products.
- 41:20So they're going to say, okay, well this, your calcium levels fall within play.
- 41:25They're just going to break down presence of different chemicals and metals
- 41:30and tell you if something is really detrimental or they're going to tell you,
- 41:35you know, everything looks pretty good.
- 41:36Keep going.
- 41:37And if you want to try to push it, that's fine.
- 41:39Or, or you're right there.
- 41:41Don't do it.
- 41:41I did this stay at 10, 000, whatever the case is.
- 41:44I've also heard there's early indicators for potential blown head gasket.
- 41:47They'll tell you if there's water in the oil, you know, stuff like that.
- 41:50Other things.
- 41:50Yeah, right.
- 41:51Glycol, you know, other things, you know, coolant shows up
- 41:55and everything else, right?
- 41:56Those are the things that you're going to say, okay, well.
- 41:59That should not be especially the metals, you know, cause then you're having
- 42:03where if you're have high iron levels or aluminum or something to that effect,
- 42:08they're going to say, okay, well, this is probably coming from this area of
- 42:11the engine and you should take a look at it, you know, just keep that in mind.
- 42:15So we've been talking about engine oil, but what about like gear oils
- 42:19and transmission oil and transmission fluids and stuff like that?
- 42:23There are a lot of cars that are being shipped with no drain plugs.
- 42:25We had a member in the club asking questions about this just recently.
- 42:30How can he install a drain plug in his transmission because there isn't
- 42:33one and he wants to change the fluid.
- 42:35Is there really such a thing as a lifetime fluid?
- 42:39It's a great question.
- 42:41The manufacturers have deemed that that way.
- 42:44I think it's critically important to change those fluids when
- 42:49they're supposed to be changed out.
- 42:50So I, if there's access in some way, if you could siphon it from the, from
- 42:56somewhere, then that would be, you know, my, my recommendation is changing it out.
- 43:02So, uh, a good mechanic will find a way what I've heard, but yeah, I think
- 43:06we, I think we came to the solution of using a, a reverse pump or
- 43:11what was the transfer transfer
- 43:13transfer pump, right?
- 43:14Yeah.
- 43:14So, you know, you know, those are things that, you know, they need to be
- 43:18changed out just like any other fluid needs to be changed out in the vehicle.
- 43:22They collect debris and they are.
- 43:24They have a function.
- 43:25They have a, they have a similar function to motor oils in a lot of ways.
- 43:29They're really there to protect the mechanisms that are working.
- 43:33You know, those are additive packages and gear oils and transmission fluids also.
- 43:37And if those, those are depleted, then they're not doing their job.
- 43:40So by all means, you know, there should be a schedule for that.
- 43:44So one other question to go along with this.
- 43:46I've also heard as Important as the oil is in the testing that we talked about
- 43:51are the oil filters themselves because they too are not all created equal.
- 43:55So first question, does Liqui Moly sell their own brand of oil filters?
- 44:00And if not, is there a recommended partner, you know, oil filter that would
- 44:04go well with the oil that you guys supply?
- 44:07We do not.
- 44:08Make filters.
- 44:09I would only recommend those really quality filters that you're already
- 44:13aware of without mentioning names.
- 44:16So there you go.
- 44:17So hot take their spend more get better products or nothing.
- 44:23Nothing that starts with an F and is orange.
- 44:25Is that what you're saying?
- 44:27Can I confirm or
- 44:29deny?
- 44:30No, no, but I buy those 50 cent clearance oil filters.
- 44:35What are you talking about?
- 44:37Right next to the gum,
- 44:37right?
- 44:38Yeah,
- 44:39they're basically just solo cups.
- 44:41Yeah, but you know, in all seriousness, if you're using a filter that.
- 44:47I think they've dialed back some of the old drain intervals, you
- 44:50know, BMW is doing 15, 000 miles.
- 44:53I want, you know, you have to have a good quality filter.
- 44:56You can't buy the cheapest thing.
- 44:58You get what you pay for.
- 45:00That's what it comes down to a lot of the time.
- 45:02So absolutely anything with oil, you don't want to cheap out on.
- 45:07With service intervals getting longer and longer, it makes sense to buy better
- 45:10quality products that will last 10, 12, 15, 20, 000 miles per service change,
- 45:16you know, so it's kind of interesting.
- 45:18Yeah.
- 45:18Your, your, your filter, your oil and your filter are much
- 45:22cheaper than a brand new motor.
- 45:23A
- 45:24hundred percent.
- 45:24That's my argument every time.
- 45:27And you also have to go back to the old.
- 45:30Miles or months too, because I learned this on my wife's hybrid where the
- 45:35electric does a lot of the work.
- 45:37The motor is kind of sitting, you know, it's turning the oil pump
- 45:40circulating because the motor is turning with the hybrid or whatever,
- 45:43but the motor is not actually running.
- 45:44It'll come up and say, it's been a matter of time, whether
- 45:47you've done the miles or not.
- 45:48It's time to get the oil out.
- 45:49Right.
- 45:50So it's something to keep an eye on.
- 45:51And if your car sits for a long time, you should also consider a time interval.
- 45:57The longer the car sits because water will get absorbed from, you know, barometric
- 46:01pressure changes and humidity changes and weather and all that kind of stuff.
- 46:04You know, other things will change.
- 46:05The oil will sludge up just sitting there, heat and cold, you
- 46:08know, without the motor running.
- 46:09So something else to consider when you're doing your service intervals,
- 46:12but, you know, let's get off of that.
- 46:13Let's switch gears yet again.
- 46:15We'll put it in third this time.
- 46:17And let's talk about how Liqui Moly products and offerings differ and
- 46:22compete against some of the well known brands that we probably use today.
- 46:27And maybe, you know, give us your pitch.
- 46:28Why should we switch to Liqui Moly?
- 46:30I can't name names.
- 46:31So I'll just say.
- 46:32To be fair, that goes back to the base oils and the additives.
- 46:36As far as what packages you buy, I used to use like ketchup as an example,
- 46:42but that's subjective because you might like the taste of hunts better
- 46:46than Heinz or something like that.
- 46:48So I like to, even though most people would say Heinz, but there will
- 46:52be always the one guy that would, especially at a, would say, oh, I,
- 46:56you know, I buy the store brand.
- 46:57I don't care.
- 46:58But, but, but my point on that is really that, um, the way I like to really
- 47:03compare products would be diamonds because diamonds are What they are,
- 47:09you know, I don't know if you have like the jewelry exchange out there
- 47:12or you've seen those commercials and you can get a two carat diamond for 9.
- 47:1799.
- 47:17Yeah.
- 47:18And
- 47:18you know, a two carat diamond is probably 20, 000.
- 47:23So the point of that being is that the differences in diamonds are
- 47:27always the clarity, the cut, you know, we're not going to throw the
- 47:31carrots in there, but it's always.
- 47:33how clear it is, no blemishes, those kinds of things.
- 47:36And I, that's really how we try to, that's how I really wanted
- 47:39to say how we make our oil.
- 47:40We, we try to just use the best.
- 47:44And that's how I try to compare it as far as having something of
- 47:48a high quality compared to like There's oil all over the place.
- 47:51There is differences between all the brands.
- 47:55Once again, the quality is of the utmost importance and we make every
- 48:01product ourselves and we do buy the best base oil and additive packages
- 48:06that are available on the market.
- 48:08To ensure that you're getting the best protection for your vehicle.
- 48:12It's important to really take care of it.
- 48:15We've done a lot of research and development as far as to see
- 48:19how the oil holds up in various applications, whether it's on the
- 48:24track, whether it's a dyno, whether it's a daily driver, doesn't matter.
- 48:28It's something that we take a tremendous amount of pride in making, trying to
- 48:33make the best product that's out there.
- 48:35So it's something that.
- 48:36We have gotten tremendous feedback, whether it's a shop, whether it's a do
- 48:42it yourself person, you know, a DIY, you know, they feel the difference
- 48:47that that's the thing I hear the most.
- 48:49They really feel the difference between using our products and a competitor.
- 48:54They feel it running smoother.
- 48:57They're hearing less noises.
- 49:00You know, they're the valve train is quieter timing belts, not
- 49:04making as much noise as it used to.
- 49:07So The benefits of using better products is that it does actually help to improve
- 49:12some of those situations that do come up.
- 49:15And, and then like I said, it's really something that you have
- 49:17to, you have to try yourself.
- 49:19It's too big of an investment not to bend a little bit more to ensure
- 49:24that you're going to have your car running the way it wants to be.
- 49:28I mean, that's, that's how I like to see it.
- 49:30We know as petrol heads is that we become very brand loyal, right?
- 49:34And when you, when you marry yourself to a brand, you kind of go all in.
- 49:39That's why I've had five Volkswagens.
- 49:43But, but to, to that point, I mean, you know, you start buying oil, then you
- 49:46want the filters, then you want the brake fluid, then you want the transmission
- 49:49fluid and you want the grease and, you know, and you start wearing the polos
- 49:53and the t shirts and the hats and the stickers and it's all downhill from there.
- 49:56It's turtles all the way down.
- 49:57So.
- 49:59That kind of begs the question of the 4, 000 products that Liqui Moly offers.
- 50:03Do they offer stuff for motorcycles, boats, small engines,
- 50:06lawnmowers, two strokes, maybe the occasional Mazda rotary.
- 50:10I mean, does it, is it really a one stop shop?
- 50:13It's a one stop shop.
- 50:15We have in the United States, we've launched our marine
- 50:19segment, our power sports segment.
- 50:21We have, we have American and Asian diesel gasoline.
- 50:26We have every, every segment pretty much covered in the States here.
- 50:30And of those 4, 000 products, we don't have that many of those.
- 50:35I mean, that's, that's what's in Germany, but just based on what we
- 50:39have here, I mean, We have the majority of the European market covered.
- 50:43Of course, you're going to the track and you're dragging your car in a, with
- 50:48a power stroke or a Cummins diesel.
- 50:51We have an oil for, or if you're going to use your, uh, ATV, we
- 50:55have oils for all these things.
- 50:56So
- 50:56do you have oils for the dreaded rotaries?
- 51:02That's two stroke oil.
- 51:03What are you talking about?
- 51:04It needs to be something special to keep those seals from blowing out.
- 51:09So our 10 W 40 all day, I've been told.
- 51:12So,
- 51:13so it brings up a, Rob, you bring up a really great point, right?
- 51:16You're going to the track or maybe you're going on autocross or the
- 51:19drag strip, or even if you're, you're going to work, right.
- 51:21And you run Liqui Moly.
- 51:23Something goes pear shaped.
- 51:24You realize you're a quart low for some reason.
- 51:26Maybe your motor eats oil.
- 51:27It's not Liqui Moly's fault, but you know, you're at the track.
- 51:30Something happens.
- 51:31You can't just run out to the local parts store oftentimes
- 51:34and get Liqui Moly products.
- 51:36I've seen competing products.
- 51:37I mean, obviously you can pick up, you know, the Havilands, the Valvolines,
- 51:40the mobile ones, the even Pentason sometimes that, you know, Pep Boys, if
- 51:44you, if you find one nearby and sometimes Napol carry that kind of stuff, right.
- 51:48You know, this is just past experience, but I don't come
- 51:50across Liqui Moly very often.
- 51:53If we want, if somebody wants to make the switch, how do you go
- 51:56about finding the products are all 4, 000 products available?
- 51:59Can we look at a catalog?
- 52:00Is there an online store?
- 52:02You know, is there a dealership network we have to go through?
- 52:05I mean, obviously we have a relationship with FCP euro and we know that
- 52:09they've got liquid plastered all over their cars and everything up there.
- 52:12And that's great.
- 52:13So how do we go about, you know, getting the products if
- 52:17we want to make the switch?
- 52:18Yeah, absolutely.
- 52:19So the, the, the best way to do that is to go onto our website.
- 52:22We have a oil locator.
- 52:24Put your zip code in and you choose how many miles you are, you know, you want
- 52:28radius as far as what you're looking for.
- 52:31And we have it by shop and by retail.
- 52:34So it'll bring up a list of retailers in the area.
- 52:37It'll also bring up any shops that are omo shops that they use our products.
- 52:43So if you're not handy with a wrench like myself.
- 52:46But you want to find, you want to find someone that is using a, you want to
- 52:52find a good shop that's using lithium moly products, then that's the easiest
- 52:56thing to do, you know, of course the internet's a big world, FCP of course
- 53:00is, uh, you know, we have many e commerce companies that are selling our products.
- 53:07And if there's anyone, any shops that are listening to this today, there's
- 53:11also wholesalers that sell them.
- 53:13The great thing over the last five years.
- 53:15Since I've been with Wickle Molly is that the products have
- 53:19become much easier to find.
- 53:20Sometimes you just have to ask, you may not see it on the shelf, but that doesn't
- 53:25mean they don't have it in the back.
- 53:26And that's a lot of times how you'll find it.
- 53:29But yeah, but your first step, definitely go onto our site and
- 53:32put your zip code in and then a whole list of shops and retailers.
- 53:37What are the requirements to become a retailer of Liqui Moly?
- 53:42You can always give us a call.
- 53:43We'll be happy to talk to anyone that's interested in
- 53:45distributing Liqui Moly products.
- 53:47You know, that's the best way to start.
- 53:49We'll put together something that might work for you and go from there.
- 53:53I mean, I'm, I'm ready to start.
- 53:55Chopping for some Liqui Moly.
- 53:57I know
- 53:57I was thinking the same thing.
- 53:58I was like, I got to get some Saratex stuff.
- 54:00Cause I'm still at that stage with the new motor where I haven't
- 54:03switched to my final oil yet.
- 54:05I'm actually, between you and me, I'm running 0W40 mobile one,
- 54:08because that's the last stage before I can go to Esther oil.
- 54:11I had to run that for like basically a season.
- 54:13And last season sucked and the car stayed parked and I ran the other one instead.
- 54:17So, but yeah, so, and that's where I come to an impasse, right?
- 54:21Because I was a mold tool, you know, 300 V for the longest time, but a high
- 54:25horsepower turbo motor, it's the one that gave me the lowest oil temperatures.
- 54:29And I was like, ah, that's what I'm going to use.
- 54:31It's expensive as all get out.
- 54:32It's like.
- 54:33I don't know, 40 a liter or something insane, which is still
- 54:36cheaper than the brake fluid I use, but you know, Hey, whatever.
- 54:41So Rob, you know, like we said at the top of this conversation, we're always
- 54:45looking for that extra 10th of a second.
- 54:46We're always looking for those extra couple degrees, you know, something
- 54:49give us that competitive edge when we're out there, whether it be at the drag
- 54:53strip, whether it be road racing, time trials, or even really on the street
- 54:57to give us those extra couple of years.
- 54:59out of a car that we wouldn't normally expect.
- 55:01So, you know, I think this has been a really great conversation.
- 55:04I think our listeners have probably learned a lot along the way about
- 55:06the different types of oils and what they should be looking out for.
- 55:09And I think we've dispelled some myths along with all that.
- 55:12So, you know, everybody, if you're interested in learning more about
- 55:15LiquiMoly, maybe this is the first time you're hearing about the brand, be
