- 0:00Speaker 1: Thanks for joining us. We have another coaches show tomorrow night.
- 0:03Speaker 1: Dan Hurley, Mike Crispino, Kimani Young will be on the
- 0:06Speaker 1: year between six and seven on the Yukon Sports Network,
- 0:09Speaker 1: the Varsity Network app and the Varsitynetwork dot Com with
- 0:13Speaker 1: Gino here live in the Duncan Music Lounge. Notre Dames
- 0:15Speaker 1: coming up on Thursday, fifty fifth all time meeting between
- 0:19Speaker 1: these two teams, Gino, And it doesn't matter the fact.
- 0:23Speaker 2: That it's many times we played them, This will be
- 0:25Speaker 2: the fifty fifth time. Wow. Yeah, that's a lot into
- 0:28Speaker 2: the mid nineties, so.
- 0:30Speaker 3: We played fifty four games.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Of course you're not playing them with four times a
- 0:33Speaker 1: year for three.
- 0:34Speaker 3: No, I know we played them four times three years
- 0:36Speaker 3: in a row. That's twelve times in three.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Years, fifteen times and four years of times four years.
- 0:41Speaker 1: That's a lot of basketball.
- 0:43Speaker 3: What's our record against that?
- 0:44Speaker 2: Just a minute, I happen to have that you have.
- 0:47Speaker 1: It's let's see here thirty nine and fifteen and they've
- 0:51Speaker 1: won the last two.
- 0:52Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 0:54Speaker 1: But what I was going to get at, look, look,
- 0:59Speaker 1: regardless us the fact that no longer conference affiliations together
- 1:03Speaker 1: in the old Big East, but it still seems to
- 1:06Speaker 1: be the big rival regardless. And it's a great game
- 1:10Speaker 1: to watch over year because there always seems to be
- 1:12Speaker 1: drum in the game.
- 1:13Speaker 3: Yeah, when we when we were playing them in the league, Uh,
- 1:21Speaker 3: there was a point where they they really really really
- 1:25Speaker 3: had a hard time beating us. Matter of fact, one
- 1:28Speaker 3: of the one of the times that they beat us,
- 1:30Speaker 3: very very few times that they beat us, it was Diana,
- 1:34Speaker 3: Diana's freshman year at at Notre Dame, you know, and
- 1:38Speaker 3: they beat us pretty they beat us pretty good.
- 1:43Speaker 2: But national champion their national championship.
- 1:45Speaker 3: Year, and that was the year they won a national championship.
- 1:48Speaker 3: And what happened then is as they started to get
- 1:56Speaker 3: better and better and better and better, they became our
- 2:00Speaker 3: biggest competitor in the conference. So then it became, you know,
- 2:05Speaker 3: a huge game. You know, if you remember at one time,
- 2:07Speaker 3: it was you know, back in the day in nineteen eighties,
- 2:12Speaker 3: US in Providence and you know, US in Villanova, and
- 2:15Speaker 3: then it became you know, Rutgers. You know, then it
- 2:21Speaker 3: became Notre Dame, and Notre Dame has stayed, you know,
- 2:25Speaker 3: and they kind of replaced the Tennessee game as the
- 2:30Speaker 3: big game on our schedule, and I know, our kids
- 2:34Speaker 3: loved the game. Their kids loved the game. You know,
- 2:36Speaker 3: we love playing up there, so it's a great event,
- 2:43Speaker 3: you know. And they have a terrific team. They have
- 2:46Speaker 3: a really really good team, and.
- 2:48Speaker 1: They're going through a lot of injuries like you have
- 2:50Speaker 1: done to the last three years. Maddie Westbeld, who's been
- 2:54Speaker 1: a Yukon killer the last two years with her threes
- 2:56Speaker 1: from the perimeter, Liza Carlin, the transfer from Marquette. They
- 2:59Speaker 1: still have not played this year, but they have as
- 3:02Speaker 1: good a trio in the back court as there is
- 3:04Speaker 1: in the country with Hannahaldago, Olivia Miles who's back, and
- 3:09Speaker 1: Sony cit Troun.
- 3:09Speaker 2: They're as good as you're going to see all season.
- 3:12Speaker 3: Oh yeah yeah. And like like Wall said, when we
- 3:17Speaker 3: only had six players last year, and somebody asked, like,
- 3:20Speaker 3: you know, you feel sorry for Gino and he goes, yeah,
- 3:22Speaker 3: I really do, because now he has to play Page
- 3:25Speaker 3: forty minutes. He's got to play a Leah forty minutes,
- 3:27Speaker 3: and so yeah, I feel really bad for him, you know.
- 3:31Speaker 3: So I think Notre names in a similar situation. You know,
- 3:33Speaker 3: they only have six players, but those three guys are
- 3:36Speaker 3: not coming out of the game, right they they're going
- 3:39Speaker 3: to be playing forty minutes, those three, So that makes
- 3:41Speaker 3: it I wish they had guards on the injured list
- 3:46Speaker 3: and they were bringing three guards back so that they
- 3:49Speaker 3: would rotate these guys. Get these three guys off the
- 3:52Speaker 3: court once in a while. But they're just really, really good,
- 3:55Speaker 3: those three, and it's it's going to be a handful
- 3:58Speaker 3: of trying to try to keep them from doing what
- 4:01Speaker 3: they do.
- 4:02Speaker 2: And the l Ivy has done a fabulous job in
- 4:04Speaker 2: her time there.
- 4:04Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I really like Neil and I think she's
- 4:07Speaker 3: done a fabulous job of recruiting and coaching them. And
- 4:13Speaker 3: you know, those kids play hard, they compete, that's what
- 4:18Speaker 3: you want, you know, and they've dominated the A c C.
- 4:23Speaker 3: You know, every year that they've been in it.
- 4:25Speaker 2: That does not surprise me one bit.
- 4:26Speaker 3: No, no, So that's that's what we got coming up Thursday.
- 4:32Speaker 3: And you know when we when we play them, and
- 4:39Speaker 3: that's when Page hurt her knee for the first time.
- 4:42Speaker 2: In stores, yes, you.
- 4:43Speaker 3: Know, and we beat them pretty good. And then Page
- 4:46Speaker 3: got hurt, and then the following year we didn't have
- 4:49Speaker 3: Page there and hurt and As got hurt there, and
- 4:55Speaker 3: then last year we have Paige and we didn't have Easy,
- 5:00Speaker 3: and score was tied going under the fourth quarter, and
- 5:07Speaker 3: you know, I must have said something wrong in Croatian
- 5:11Speaker 3: Tanika because she filed out. She fouled out. You know,
- 5:16Speaker 3: she had two fouls like in the last in like
- 5:19Speaker 3: in the span of like a minute and a half
- 5:20Speaker 3: or something to foul out. It's probably the worst basketball
- 5:23Speaker 3: game she's ever played in her in her life, you know.
- 5:28Speaker 3: So it was a great game until the fourth quarter,
- 5:30Speaker 3: and then we just collapsed and they made some big shots,
- 5:33Speaker 3: like you said, West Belt made some big shots. Adalgo
- 5:36Speaker 3: just played great. So it's going to be entertaining Thursday. Yeah,
- 5:41Speaker 3: we're gonna miss Easy. We're gonna miss her points because
- 5:43Speaker 3: I think it's going to be a high scoring game
- 5:45Speaker 3: and we could use all the points we could get.
- 5:48Speaker 3: But you know, it's a December game. And the beauty
- 5:53Speaker 3: of games like this is we have a game Sunday
- 5:56Speaker 3: and so today, so the season doesn't end for the
- 6:01Speaker 3: loser and the winner doesn't win a national championship. So
- 6:05Speaker 3: it's the perfect perfect time to play these games.
- 6:07Speaker 1: You're gonna find out a lot about your team over
- 6:09Speaker 1: the next two weeks. By the time we get to
- 6:11Speaker 1: about ten fifteen on the night of Saturday the twenty first,
- 6:14Speaker 1: you're gonna have a pretty good idea what this team's
- 6:17Speaker 1: going to be and what their identity might be.
- 6:19Speaker 3: Yeah, I have a pretty good idea now, but it's
- 6:21Speaker 3: not you know, written in stone yet. I think we
- 6:25Speaker 3: need to see more of it. I think what we
- 6:27Speaker 3: saw the other nights close but still not not all
- 6:32Speaker 3: of it, but it's close. Saturday night was as close
- 6:36Speaker 3: as to what I want to see as anything that
- 6:39Speaker 3: we've done up to this point.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Right, We're gonna have some questions from the audience, but
- 6:42Speaker 1: I got a text from Dibbs over there. We know
- 6:44Speaker 1: Aubrey's working hard getting back. How close you see from
- 6:47Speaker 1: a to get ready to go and play.
- 6:51Speaker 3: Aubrey said to me January first. Okay, So if Aubrey's accurate,
- 6:57Speaker 3: then I'm going with that. There's times and she's playing
- 7:01Speaker 3: playing simulated games.
- 7:02Speaker 2: Right.
- 7:03Speaker 3: She looks pretty good, right, you know, And you know,
- 7:08Speaker 3: I don't know that she's one hundred percent and she's
- 7:12Speaker 3: ready to mix it up a lot, but a little
- 7:16Speaker 3: by little, she's doing more every day. So that's a
- 7:19Speaker 3: great sign. And you know, obviously you throw her into
- 7:23Speaker 3: the mix. And now that's that gives us something we
- 7:26Speaker 3: don't have. We don't have anybody like Ollrey on our
- 7:28Speaker 3: team that's playing right now, right, you know, So you
- 7:31Speaker 3: bring somebody in that's completely different, that's a whole other
- 7:35Speaker 3: way that you can shake up the game.
- 7:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Total, she totally changed the game. Like we talked about
- 7:39Speaker 1: last week before Louisville. She changed that Louisville.
- 7:41Speaker 2: Game last year.
- 7:42Speaker 3: No, she's single Handley, you know, screwed things up for
- 7:46Speaker 3: them the first half. Yeah, yeah, sometimes she screws things
- 7:50Speaker 3: up for us too, don't get me wrong.
- 7:52Speaker 2: All right, Well, take a break. I know we got
- 7:54Speaker 2: some questions from the audience.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Ben'll roam around with the wireless mike and we'll let
- 7:58Speaker 1: you folks ask Gido questions here as we get counting
- 8:02Speaker 1: down towards the top of the hour, it's Geno Live
- 8:04Speaker 1: from the Duncan Music Lounge at iHeartRadio. The Women's Basketball
- 8:06Speaker 1: Coaches Show on Learfield continues in a moment
