- 0:00Speaker 1: What's going on, everybody. It's Jeff here. I wanted to
- 0:02Speaker 1: let you know we've recorded this podcast episode on two
- 0:05Speaker 1: separate days this week. Our interview this week was recorded
- 0:08Speaker 1: on Tuesday, November fifth, twenty twenty four. Our regular part
- 0:12Speaker 1: of the show, the first part of the show with
- 0:13Speaker 1: Eric and myself was recorded on Wednesday, November sixth, twenty
- 0:17Speaker 1: twenty four. So by the time you hear this, some
- 0:19Speaker 1: things may have changed here or there, but we hope
- 0:21Speaker 1: you enjoy the show. Welcome to the Philadelphia Sports Table
- 0:49Speaker 1: podcast show, the longest running weekly Philly sports podcast show
- 0:53Speaker 1: in the world, eleven and a half years strong. We
- 0:56Speaker 1: got a great show come on your way this week.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Lots of Eagles talk. We're gonna getting some Phillies offseason
- 1:01Speaker 1: talk as well. We're gonna we're gonna just really touch
- 1:05Speaker 1: really quick on the college football playoff that I feel
- 1:08Speaker 1: like is right around the corner. We've got the holidays
- 1:11Speaker 1: coming up, and we're also gonna get into Philadelphia seventy
- 1:14Speaker 1: six ers, especially what we're thrown down on the table
- 1:16Speaker 1: this week. We've got our good friend of the show,
- 1:18Speaker 1: Troy ban Camp. He's a contributor over at Fan Side
- 1:21Speaker 1: it's the Sixercents dot Com. He's gonna be joining us
- 1:24Speaker 1: for a discussion about this team this awful, awful early
- 1:29Speaker 1: seventy six er season. But we're gonna get into some
- 1:31Speaker 1: storylines there with Troy for sure. I am Jeff Warren.
- 1:35Speaker 1: I'm here with my good buddy Eric Leonard. I gotta
- 1:38Speaker 1: be very honest with you, Eric, I had no idea
- 1:41Speaker 1: how my voice was gonna sound great as we hit
- 1:43Speaker 1: the record button and I did the intro because I
- 1:46Speaker 1: haven't had the best day here on November six, twenty
- 1:50Speaker 1: twenty four. It has not been a good day, my friend.
- 1:53Speaker 1: But I am glad we have this podcast and we're
- 1:56Speaker 1: able to do this together today, my friend.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I was trucked by the amount of time we've
- 2:00Speaker 2: been doing the show. You always start off at the
- 2:02Speaker 2: top of the show with you know how how long
- 2:04Speaker 2: we've been doing this? And yeah, it's we're going to
- 2:07Speaker 2: keep doing this even as the world burns around us.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Yes, yes, in light of in light of what happened,
- 2:13Speaker 1: in light of what happened this past week here, just
- 2:17Speaker 1: a few days ago, with the many elections within our
- 2:21Speaker 1: nation here, Yes, as many of you know, I am
- 2:24Speaker 1: heavily involved in in the in the uh governmental process
- 2:30Speaker 1: and just our government here Northampton County where I live,
- 2:34Speaker 1: and we were under a microscope as one of the
- 2:37Speaker 1: counties here in Pennsylvania that however, Northampton County goes, Pennsylvania
- 2:43Speaker 1: goes in terms of the presidency. And we know how
- 2:46Speaker 1: that happened, we know how that worked. But end of
- 2:49Speaker 1: the day, man, it's yes, I've had a numb it's
- 2:52Speaker 1: been a numb feeling throughout the day it's been. It's
- 2:55Speaker 1: been just a it's been low. I'm not gonna I'm
- 3:00Speaker 1: laughing here, kind of just trying to find my words, Eric,
- 3:03Speaker 1: but it's been a low day for me. I've invested
- 3:06Speaker 1: twenty five years in this profession. And I say profession
- 3:09Speaker 1: because I went to penn State with you. I was
- 3:12Speaker 1: a political science major. I knew what I wanted to
- 3:15Speaker 1: do with my life in terms of public service, in
- 3:17Speaker 1: terms of government service, believe it or not, since I
- 3:20Speaker 1: was a teenager. And I'm so grateful and honored that
- 3:24Speaker 1: I get to do what I do. That there that
- 3:26Speaker 1: there were folks that voted me into public office a
- 3:29Speaker 1: number of times, four times in fact, and it is
- 3:34Speaker 1: it is the greatest honor of my life. But when
- 3:36Speaker 1: when certain things don't go your way electorally in terms
- 3:40Speaker 1: of people you support, you know, you just it's tough sometimes,
- 3:44Speaker 1: it really is.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Yeah, and especially you know, I know it's sighed you're
- 3:48Speaker 2: on and to look at the other side and what
- 3:50Speaker 2: happened leading up to this and what a grotesque human
- 3:53Speaker 2: being that they voted for. And I'll be on. You know,
- 3:57Speaker 2: I'm a pessimist when it comes to this country.
- 4:00Speaker 3: We've had conversations, yep, I've known you, and you know
- 4:04Speaker 3: I I I was struck by how many people are
- 4:08Speaker 3: online or on TV saying like this is unbelievable, and
- 4:11Speaker 3: I'm like, this is completely believable, like.
- 4:13Speaker 2: That this country has been heading in that direction, getting dumber,
- 4:17Speaker 2: getting more hate filled, and it just took the right
- 4:20Speaker 2: person to to stoke the flame, the fire under their
- 4:24Speaker 2: asses and just immobilize them. And the man has no policies.
- 4:31Speaker 2: He's going to rip apart healthcare, He's going to rip
- 4:33Speaker 2: apart a Borsche, whatever you can think of. Right that,
- 4:36Speaker 2: he has really no platform. He runs on hate and
- 4:41Speaker 2: and fear, and that that will always win as as
- 4:45Speaker 2: a country gets dumber and dumber. And you know that
- 4:51Speaker 2: That's what struck me so much, is like I wasn't
- 4:52Speaker 2: surprised because I think we've been heading this direction for
- 4:54Speaker 2: a long time. Not you and I, but there's just
- 4:57Speaker 2: a slight majority of this country that just that they
- 5:00Speaker 2: feed right into that, And it was like a perfect
- 5:02Speaker 2: pairing of.
- 5:05Speaker 1: This was just bound to happen. I Like, at the
- 5:08Speaker 1: start of the night, I was like, I think she
- 5:10Speaker 1: has to do.
- 5:10Speaker 2: Then within finantes, I'm like, this ain't happening. I just
- 5:13Speaker 2: got to feel like this is this is going to
- 5:15Speaker 2: go southah. And it wasn't because of the candidates or
- 5:17Speaker 2: even like or like John King's freaking hitting the freaking
- 5:22Speaker 2: screen with fifty fingers going at the same time, it
- 5:25Speaker 2: was more like, oh, man, I know where I live,
- 5:29Speaker 2: and I think we're I think that Pennsylvania is like
- 5:32Speaker 2: a microcosm of the whole country, Like it's a red
- 5:34Speaker 2: and blue in the outside, but there's just enough red
- 5:37Speaker 2: in the middle, or I'm sorry, just enough red in
- 5:40Speaker 2: those blue areas in the middle this this state that
- 5:44Speaker 2: are filled with hatred. They keep it a little more quiet,
- 5:47Speaker 2: and they voted, and a lot of people didn't show
- 5:50Speaker 2: up for the other candidates.
- 5:51Speaker 1: I was going to say a lot of people didn't
- 5:52Speaker 1: show up that showed up in twenty twenty. I'm gonna
- 5:55Speaker 1: say that right now, and that's an indictment of the
- 5:57Speaker 1: folks that I align with, quite frankly, And I could
- 6:00Speaker 1: be critical of my political party quite frankly. And that's
- 6:04Speaker 1: how I'm feeling right now. You know, I have my values,
- 6:08Speaker 1: I have my belief system. I fight for certain things
- 6:10Speaker 1: as a public official, as somebody who was elected to
- 6:13Speaker 1: do a job. I had a campaign platform. Folks said, yeah,
- 6:16Speaker 1: you know, I went this guy there. But I have
- 6:19Speaker 1: no qualms at all about criticizing my party for a
- 6:25Speaker 1: lack of consistent, concise and really a message that folks
- 6:31Speaker 1: really wanted to gravitate towards. I don't have a problem
- 6:33Speaker 1: doing that right now. But what you've said, also, Eric
- 6:37Speaker 1: is absolutely true too, It really is.
- 6:40Speaker 2: I know.
- 6:44Speaker 1: I also want to say this too, really quick, really quick,
- 6:46Speaker 1: just before just before you know, I could be critical
- 6:51Speaker 1: of my party here too, But I think what's really
- 6:54Speaker 1: mind boggling for me and I don't know how we
- 6:56Speaker 1: as a country and for you folks listening and hopefully
- 6:58Speaker 1: it haven't tuned out yet are turned us off yet?
- 7:01Speaker 1: But how millions of Americans live in this information bubble,
- 7:07Speaker 1: and they live in their own information bubbles and believe
- 7:10Speaker 1: things that are manifestly and demonstrably untrue. How do we
- 7:16Speaker 1: get out of that? How do we break that cycle?
- 7:19Speaker 1: And I don't know if we do, I don't know
- 7:21Speaker 1: if we ever will. Quite frankly, there are folks who
- 7:24Speaker 1: have consistently said, have consistently said, we've made crime is
- 7:28Speaker 1: just out of control in this country. Crime is crazy,
- 7:31Speaker 1: crime is nuts. I saw ads here in Northampton County.
- 7:33Speaker 1: You probably saw them in central Pennsylvania two eric. Crime
- 7:37Speaker 1: is out of control. We need that change, We need change, folks.
- 7:41Speaker 1: I was at a budget meeting tonight. We had our
- 7:43Speaker 1: corrections folks come into our council chambers tonight to talk
- 7:47Speaker 1: about our prison here in Northampton County. We had four
- 7:51Speaker 1: hundred and ninety in mates, folks, the least amount of
- 7:56Speaker 1: inmates that we have had in years. Crime is down,
- 8:00Speaker 1: Crime is down, and we did a terrible job. We
- 8:03Speaker 1: did a terrible job refuting the lies that crime is
- 8:07Speaker 1: just rampant, out of control. So I just wanted to
- 8:09Speaker 1: throw that out there and to say that when it
- 8:12Speaker 1: comes to the misinformation age, that we are in. I'm
- 8:17Speaker 1: not sure how we get out of it. I think
- 8:18Speaker 1: we just have to keep telling the truth, whether it's
- 8:20Speaker 1: in the world of sports, Philly sports, which we're going
- 8:23Speaker 1: to certainly do, or whether it's uh, you know, the
- 8:26Speaker 1: political world, things happening in our neighborhoods, communities. I don't
- 8:30Speaker 1: know how we get out of it. I think we
- 8:31Speaker 1: just got to keep telling the truth.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Buddy, Listen, man, it's just gonna get worse with the
- 8:35Speaker 2: misinformation stuff because people are getting people are getting dumber,
- 8:39Speaker 2: and tech is getting better. Yeah, and deep AI fakes
- 8:42Speaker 2: that will fool my mom.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Sure she's in her.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Seventies, but we're going to get to a point where
- 8:47Speaker 2: they're going to full forty year olds and don't and
- 8:50Speaker 2: they don't understand what they're seeing or they believe whatever
- 8:52Speaker 2: they see. I could go on a rant, a socialist
- 8:57Speaker 2: rant of like, because it come home to rus. We've
- 9:00Speaker 2: been doing so much shit across the world and this
- 9:02Speaker 2: is what But I just can't believe him and what's
- 9:07Speaker 2: gonna happen next? And I again, I'm not surprised at all.
- 9:13Speaker 2: It's it's been heading this direction. And honestly, if you
- 9:16Speaker 2: don't like what we're saying you can go to the show,
- 9:18Speaker 2: and exactly.
- 9:20Speaker 1: We've certainly lost listeners over the years. It started with
- 9:22Speaker 1: Colin Kaepernick's situation, whoa.
- 9:25Speaker 2: Yes by Felicia, don't give a ship?
- 9:27Speaker 1: Yes exactly. If you're still with us, we're got we
- 9:34Speaker 1: got Philly Sports Talk to get into as well. Are
- 9:36Speaker 1: you are we? Are we done talking? Are we done
- 9:37Speaker 1: talking about this for now? Should we? Maybe we just
- 9:41Speaker 1: do the whole show.
- 9:44Speaker 2: There's a lot of podcasts that are way smarter than
- 9:45Speaker 2: us to deal with this ship very true, very true. Going,
- 9:48Speaker 2: I'm gonna say something really dumb, and I'm gonna I
- 9:51Speaker 2: can't get banned from the show like I do give
- 9:53Speaker 2: from Twitter? Right, Yeah, we should probably just yeah, all right.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Well let's get into some Eagles talk here. This team, folks,
- 10:00Speaker 1: they're six and two. Sometimes it doesn't feel like they are.
- 10:04Speaker 1: But we're gonna give our thoughts in just a minute
- 10:06Speaker 1: on where this team is at heading into Week ten
- 10:08Speaker 1: against the Dallas Cowboys. The Philadelphia Eagles did not make
- 10:12Speaker 1: any trades before the trade deadline this past Tuesday, and
- 10:17Speaker 1: it was the first time that this has happened. I
- 10:19Speaker 1: can't even remember how long Eric I cannot remember how
- 10:22Speaker 1: long it's been since Howie Roseman has not made a trade,
- 10:26Speaker 1: and it leads me to believe that there is a
- 10:28Speaker 1: lot of confidence with this Eagles team from the front
- 10:31Speaker 1: office in the talent that they have, both on offense,
- 10:35Speaker 1: both on defense. We know the defense has been playing
- 10:37Speaker 1: so much better since the bye week, but the fact
- 10:40Speaker 1: of the matter is they have seven picks going into
- 10:43Speaker 1: next season. Again, they got us a stacked and stacked
- 10:47Speaker 1: offensive roster, and even though the defensive line needs some help.
- 10:51Speaker 1: We've talked about it before. We are hoping that Howie
- 10:53Speaker 1: Roseman might get some pass rush help. Defender coming off
- 10:58Speaker 1: the edge decided not two. Are we okay? Basically with
- 11:03Speaker 1: how we not bringing in a pass rusher here at
- 11:05Speaker 1: the trade deadline? Eric, I mean, they seem to be
- 11:08Speaker 1: happy with what they have. Who knows, maybe they tried
- 11:09Speaker 1: to get somebody and couldn't get them. Hasn't been reported yet,
- 11:13Speaker 1: But where the defense is at right now heading into
- 11:16Speaker 1: Week ten, I'm actually not too upset about it. I'm
- 11:20Speaker 1: not too upset about how he not being able to
- 11:22Speaker 1: acquire some sort of pass rusher before the trade deadline.
- 11:26Speaker 1: What are your thoughts? I don't think the market was there.
- 11:29Speaker 2: I think the lines, as far as the lines were
- 11:31Speaker 2: always the top team did probably get a defensive lineman
- 11:35Speaker 2: with a Hutchinson going out. I'm not sure what else
- 11:40Speaker 2: was really on the market, honestly, And this wasn't a
- 11:43Speaker 2: this was not a sweepstakes trade deadline, so I'm actually
- 11:46Speaker 2: okay with how he keeping the picks. If you didn't
- 11:50Speaker 2: see anything, I mean, the Cowboys went out and got
- 11:51Speaker 2: Jonathan Mingo.
- 11:53Speaker 1: From the Panthers.
- 11:54Speaker 2: Yeah, and there's fans were up in arms, and I
- 11:56Speaker 2: think Deontay what's his face was traded to the Ravens.
- 12:00Speaker 1: It wasn't.
- 12:00Speaker 2: It wasn't much of a trade deadline, so I why
- 12:03Speaker 2: waste a pick just to make a move for a
- 12:06Speaker 2: player that may not even help you. I agree they
- 12:09Speaker 2: do need defensive end help in pass rush, but what's like,
- 12:13Speaker 2: don't don't waste don't waste her time?
- 12:15Speaker 1: So I get it. Yeah, and don't waste the seven
- 12:17Speaker 1: draft picks you have going into next season at this point,
- 12:19Speaker 1: don't don't waste them because, like I said, they do
- 12:21Speaker 1: have a stacked offense, and they've got some really good
- 12:24Speaker 1: defensive players, young defensive players that are going to continue
- 12:27Speaker 1: to grow in my opinion, and and.
- 12:30Speaker 2: The added bonus of the NFC is not real strong,
- 12:33Speaker 2: right right, there's some top teams and then it's kind
- 12:36Speaker 2: of like it's kind of garbage.
- 12:37Speaker 1: After that, absolutely well, we did get some listener feedback
- 12:40Speaker 1: from one of our longtime listeners, Francis here. He was like, hey, guys,
- 12:45Speaker 1: regarding the birds, what is the difference between our two
- 12:48Speaker 1: tight ends that we're seeing more involvement with Calcatara than
- 12:54Speaker 1: Win before Goddard's injury. And then he also ended up saying,
- 12:58Speaker 1: turning to the sixers, what are your thoughts on the
- 13:00Speaker 1: embiide Hayes locker room assault can't touch others, and Joel
- 13:04Speaker 1: needs to be accountable for that. But Marcus Hayes as
- 13:08Speaker 1: a hack writer, only goes for shock headlines and should
- 13:10Speaker 1: face some sort of public discipline either from the Inquirer
- 13:14Speaker 1: the team should actually pull his credentials. Finally, if you're
- 13:17Speaker 1: really looking for an alternative episode segment, I'd be pumped
- 13:20Speaker 1: for a trip down memory lane to visit the past
- 13:23Speaker 1: show intro outro music. You know what, I may put
- 13:26Speaker 1: some old outro music just for the sake of it,
- 13:29Speaker 1: and just because you shot off this email, Francis, so
- 13:31Speaker 1: thanks so much for sending us the email. Philadelphia Sports
- 13:35Speaker 1: Table at gmail dot com, folks, that's where you can
- 13:37Speaker 1: shoot us off an email on any topic you'd love
- 13:40Speaker 1: us to touch on and get into. We're definitely gonna
- 13:42Speaker 1: get into the sixers talk for sure, so stick around
- 13:45Speaker 1: for that. But it's interesting that Francis Eric asked about
- 13:49Speaker 1: the tight end situation in Philadelphia because quite very frankly,
- 13:53Speaker 1: we put up a tweet yesterday saying Eagles starting tight
- 13:57Speaker 1: ends after nine weeks in twenty twenty four. Grant Calcatara,
- 14:01Speaker 1: he started six games, He's got seventeen receptions, two hundred
- 14:05Speaker 1: and sixteen yards twelve point seven yards per reception. Dallas
- 14:10Speaker 1: Goddard five games, started, twenty four receptions, three hundred and
- 14:14Speaker 1: one yards, twelve point five yards per reception, and no
- 14:19Speaker 1: Eagles tight end has caught a touchdown this season, So
- 14:22Speaker 1: both Dallas Goddard and Grant Calcatara at this point have again.
- 14:26Speaker 1: Cal Katara with twelve point seven yards per reception, got
- 14:29Speaker 1: it with twelve point five yards per reception. It's amazing
- 14:34Speaker 1: how similar these guys are. It's like, you know what
- 14:38Speaker 1: I think we're thinking. Dallas Goddard this whole time, you know,
- 14:41Speaker 1: one of these, one of these quote top tight ends
- 14:43Speaker 1: in the NFL. We talked about the during the offseason
- 14:46Speaker 1: where he was he was a concern, we were gonna
- 14:48Speaker 1: be keeping our eyes on him. And yes he's been injured,
- 14:52Speaker 1: but his numbers and Grant cal Katara's numbers they stack
- 14:55Speaker 1: up pretty evenly with each other. You know what, I
- 14:57Speaker 1: don't think Dallas Goddard maybe any thing special necessarily anymore
- 15:01Speaker 1: with this team, and that pains me, Eric.
- 15:04Speaker 2: But did we talk about this a couple of weeks
- 15:05Speaker 2: ago where it's just like, is Dallas Goddard good and
- 15:09Speaker 2: and Jalen Hurst's not getting the ball? Or is it
- 15:12Speaker 2: He's not good, He's not as good as we think
- 15:14Speaker 2: he is. Right, maybe that's the case, Maybe it is,
- 15:18Speaker 2: Maybe he's not specially he has not had a special
- 15:20Speaker 2: season in a while, besides some of the kind of
- 15:23Speaker 2: off season hyph for him. This happens all the time, though,
- 15:25Speaker 2: like team like not not a Travis Kelsey thing, but like,
- 15:29Speaker 2: there's so many good tight ends in the league now.
- 15:31Speaker 2: I remember back in the day when there were like four.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like forty team, you know what I mean?
- 15:36Speaker 2: Like, like, what's the Gonzales going to Gonzales?
- 15:40Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, he was like and the remember Jeremy Shockey,
- 15:44Speaker 1: he was there for a while.
- 15:45Speaker 2: He was pretty good, but but it was it was
- 15:49Speaker 2: always it was like six or seven in the league.
- 15:51Speaker 2: Now there's like there's tons of them and they're backups.
- 15:53Speaker 2: They're just as good. Maybe that's just a position now,
- 15:56Speaker 2: that's like and every tight end's like six five to
- 15:59Speaker 2: forty now. Yes, So I think I think this is
- 16:03Speaker 2: kind of how the NFL is going. It seems to
- 16:06Speaker 2: be following a pattern. And maybe Dallas scottis is not
- 16:08Speaker 2: that good. I'm just gonna stay it out loud.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Yeah, maybe maybe he's not. I think it's a very
- 16:13Speaker 1: topical conversation for us to continue to have. Dallas Goddard
- 16:16Speaker 1: is going to be playing slated to play here in
- 16:20Speaker 1: upcoming Week ten against the Dallas Cowboys, So let's get
- 16:23Speaker 1: into that. You know what our thoughts are with where
- 16:25Speaker 1: the Eagles are at heading into this Cowboys matchup where
- 16:27Speaker 1: Dak Prescott is not going to be playing. You can
- 16:30Speaker 1: go back in our podcast feed our Opposition Territory Show
- 16:33Speaker 1: with r. J Ochoa from Blogging Theboys dot Com and
- 16:37Speaker 1: we had a great conversation in discussion about Dak Prescott
- 16:40Speaker 1: and just where the Cowboys team is at right now.
- 16:42Speaker 1: The Eagle should win this game. And in terms of
- 16:44Speaker 1: power rankings, where this Eagles team is at right now.
- 16:47Speaker 1: NFL dot Com has them seventh in the league, ESPN
- 16:49Speaker 1: has them ninth, USA Today has them tenth, Yahoo has
- 16:52Speaker 1: them sixth, CBS has them ninth, and Pro Football Talk
- 16:56Speaker 1: has them Seventh's base Philadelphia Eagles are a top ten
- 17:00Speaker 1: power ranked team in the NFL according to these very
- 17:03Speaker 1: immedia sources. Against six and two on the season, this
- 17:07Speaker 1: past week against the Jaguars, this team won in spite
- 17:11Speaker 1: of the coach. And we've seen this a number of
- 17:13Speaker 1: times eric this season so far, our friend Josh Schuster,
- 17:18Speaker 1: who was doing the postgame show with us, that's what
- 17:20Speaker 1: we're talking about. These players are that good where they
- 17:25Speaker 1: are winning despite the coach coaching decisions. Nick Sirianni had
- 17:29Speaker 1: a terrible game. He had a terrible game, and the
- 17:31Speaker 1: players won in spite of him. That's where this team
- 17:34Speaker 1: is at. They're six and two. It's good, but I
- 17:37Speaker 1: don't know how far this team is going to be
- 17:38Speaker 1: able to go with Nick Sirianni making type of decisions
- 17:40Speaker 1: he makes in game at times, it's really frustrating.
- 17:44Speaker 2: Has a coach ever been fired after a win? I
- 17:48Speaker 2: honestly felt like it was on the table. He was
- 17:52Speaker 2: so atrocious on Sunday to even let that dog shit
- 17:55Speaker 2: Jaguars team back in the game. Yes, who's being coached,
- 17:59Speaker 2: by the way by an even worse coach. I mean,
- 18:01Speaker 2: I love Dougie p Yes, I think we might want
- 18:05Speaker 2: to rethink the statue.
- 18:06Speaker 1: Oh no, no, no, no, we got to keep it. I
- 18:09Speaker 1: don't know, man, oh you got to keep it. I
- 18:10Speaker 1: don't know that look different eras call for different types
- 18:13Speaker 1: of know, you know, memorializing. I think and at all,
- 18:17Speaker 1: we got to keep that one. Okay, maybe maybe we.
- 18:19Speaker 2: Stick it up like a Port Richmond or something. Let's
- 18:21Speaker 2: get it out of downtown, like, okay, you get it
- 18:24Speaker 2: another part of Philly. He's a try. I can't believe
- 18:27Speaker 2: he's still the coach. I know, I can't believe we're
- 18:30Speaker 2: actually going up against Mike McCarthy. I know he should
- 18:34Speaker 2: have been fired already. I'm not saying I'm not saying
- 18:38Speaker 2: he should have been fired after a winseran it, but
- 18:40Speaker 2: like I can't believe how bad he was. They are
- 18:42Speaker 2: six and too in spite of his buffoonery, say that
- 18:46Speaker 2: they absolutely should win this game. I think the Cowboys
- 18:48Speaker 2: have I'm looking at the depth try now. They've got
- 18:51Speaker 2: four of their best defensive players on as questionable without
- 18:55Speaker 2: their starting quarterback. I think what Cooper Rush is probably
- 18:58Speaker 2: starting for the Yes. Yeah, if you can't win that game,
- 19:03Speaker 2: I don't I'm not sure what to tell you, Like,
- 19:04Speaker 2: this is the exact position you should be, Like, you
- 19:08Speaker 2: should annihilate this team. This should be like a thirty
- 19:11Speaker 2: one to ten victory. Yeah, but with our coach who
- 19:16Speaker 2: leaves he leaves points on the field, Like I.
- 19:21Speaker 1: Can't even describe.
- 19:22Speaker 2: I can't believe some of the decisions he made, like
- 19:25Speaker 2: going for two, I just kick the fucking pat Yes, yes, not,
- 19:32Speaker 2: just just play the normal game plan and you should
- 19:36Speaker 2: win by like twenty twenty twenty points on Sunday.
- 19:38Speaker 1: Exactly we should have had should how many more points
- 19:41Speaker 1: should we have had? Like six eight points something like that.
- 19:44Speaker 1: We should have had more points where we shouldn't have
- 19:46Speaker 1: been worrying about the Jacksonville Jaguars at the link too.
- 19:50Speaker 1: By the way, thanks Sirianni thank you anymore for the
- 19:55Speaker 1: Eagles before we get into some Phillies offseason talk.
- 19:57Speaker 2: Now, like I said, the good thing is the NFC
- 19:59Speaker 2: is kind of shit. I mean, yeah, the command that comes.
- 20:02Speaker 2: We gotta worry about Detroit. We already beat the Packers,
- 20:06Speaker 2: which is a great tiebreaker for us, and.
- 20:08Speaker 1: They're not playing good football. They're not at all.
- 20:10Speaker 2: Not at all, and too bad we lost the Falcons team.
- 20:14Speaker 2: But it's pretty it's pretty meek across the board.
- 20:18Speaker 1: Yeah, So all right, let us know what you're thinking
- 20:21Speaker 1: about this Eagles team and the ups and downs that
- 20:24Speaker 1: we're all feeling with them. Philadelphia Sports Table at gmail
- 20:26Speaker 1: dot com. We'd love to read your email here on
- 20:28Speaker 1: the show and respond to it like we did with Francis.
- 20:29Speaker 1: And so let's move on to the Philadelphia Phillies. They're
- 20:34Speaker 1: off season. Just wanted to get into a couple storylines
- 20:37Speaker 1: here because and look, it happened more than a few
- 20:40Speaker 1: days ago at this point, but the Philadelphia Phillies have
- 20:44Speaker 1: traded Scott Kingery if you haven't heard, to the Angels.
- 20:48Speaker 1: After ten seasons in the organizations. The Phillies ended up
- 20:52Speaker 1: receiving some cash considerations in return. Kingery last played for
- 20:57Speaker 1: the Phillies in twenty twenty two. You just got in
- 21:00Speaker 1: one game during that season in the infield. And he
- 21:04Speaker 1: had been with Triple A Lehigh Valley since then. Made
- 21:07Speaker 1: a lot of money, made a lot of money playing
- 21:09Speaker 1: for this Phillies organization, but could just never get over
- 21:13Speaker 1: the top. In fact, I mean back in twenty fifteen,
- 21:16Speaker 1: he signed a six year, twenty four million dollar contract extension.
- 21:20Speaker 1: Back then, you know, before he ever reached the major leagues,
- 21:24Speaker 1: and when he did, just wasn't able to find any success,
- 21:27Speaker 1: just struggled constantly. So no more Scott Kingery. Those storylines
- 21:31Speaker 1: of who will Scott Kingery be able to get up
- 21:33Speaker 1: to the big leagues, It's never gonna happen in this organization, Eric.
- 21:39Speaker 2: That was the go to story when the Phillies were
- 21:41Speaker 2: just the dregs of Philadelphia sports.
- 21:45Speaker 1: Yes, it was.
- 21:46Speaker 2: Is Scott came going to make the turn?
- 21:48Speaker 1: Yeah he's not.
- 21:50Speaker 2: He was never going to. He was a mediocre player.
- 21:53Speaker 1: But we had hope. We actually did have hope in
- 21:55Speaker 1: the guy. But I swear to god, I saw that.
- 21:59Speaker 2: Sorry, excuse me, I saw the topic and I'm like
- 22:02Speaker 2: ten seasons with the Phillies.
- 22:04Speaker 1: Yes, how did that fuck that happen?
- 22:07Speaker 2: Ryan Howard only played thirteen Ryan Howard, one of the
- 22:10Speaker 2: best Phillies of all time, played thirteen seasons with this
- 22:13Speaker 2: guy was three years away from the Ryan Howard. That's
- 22:16Speaker 2: insane to me. And I can't think of a single
- 22:19Speaker 2: moment of him in those ten years where I was like,
- 22:22Speaker 2: oh my god, Scott Kingery. I can't think of a
- 22:25Speaker 2: single moment he had with this team, right right.
- 22:28Speaker 1: I remember him being I remember him being like in
- 22:31Speaker 1: the outfield every now and again and thinking, all right,
- 22:33Speaker 1: all right, we're going to see something here. I think
- 22:35Speaker 1: we're going to see something or what is he going
- 22:37Speaker 1: to give us in this game? And it was consistent, Nah,
- 22:42Speaker 1: that's just what it was. Consistently. But the fact that
- 22:46Speaker 1: this organization kept him around for ten years, I don't
- 22:50Speaker 1: know what to think about that, I really don't. I mean,
- 22:52Speaker 1: they had some sort of hope for him, obviously, to
- 22:55Speaker 1: keep around that long. Man, I just I have not
- 23:00Speaker 1: heard of that with an organization keeping a guy around
- 23:03Speaker 1: that long and just just never reaching it, just never
- 23:06Speaker 1: reaching where they thought he would be.
- 23:09Speaker 2: Well, this team has a long history of keeping players
- 23:11Speaker 2: around a little too long, right now, Jasa le Jimmy
- 23:14Speaker 2: rolland sure, I get that, but not Scott Kingery, Like
- 23:17Speaker 2: he really never did anything with this team at all.
- 23:20Speaker 2: And you know, unfortunately when the team got good, he
- 23:23Speaker 2: kind of became, you know, obsolete. Yeah, but I am
- 23:28Speaker 2: I going to remember Scott Kingry fondly. Not really.
- 23:32Speaker 1: The ladies liked him as far as I know. Oh,
- 23:34Speaker 1: my wife liked him. She got a passion with him
- 23:36Speaker 1: one time and she's like, she's like, oh, how Scotty doing.
- 23:39Speaker 1: It's like, oh god, he's not doing anything.
- 23:42Speaker 2: He's got to twelve exactly if that, Yes, seriously, she
- 23:47Speaker 2: got a picture with her.
- 23:48Speaker 1: She's like, oh, I like him.
- 23:50Speaker 2: Do you tell me that. I'm like, man, I should
- 23:54Speaker 2: have been a baseball player, my guy.
- 23:56Speaker 1: Yes, yes, Oh you would have been great. The ladies
- 23:58Speaker 1: would have loved you.
- 24:00Speaker 2: I would have had one seven.
- 24:01Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:04Speaker 2: It's had a good time though, exactly.
- 24:07Speaker 1: God. Well, look, I mean, this off season is getting
- 24:10Speaker 1: getting started. It's officially the start of the Major League
- 24:13Speaker 1: Baseball off season qualifying offers. You know what that is
- 24:19Speaker 1: actually going to mean? Team by team, thirteen MLB players
- 24:23Speaker 1: received one year qualifying offer, and none of them are
- 24:28Speaker 1: Philadelphia Phillies. That guarantee didn't apply to either of the
- 24:32Speaker 1: two Phillies who were qualified offer eligible in Jeff Hoffman
- 24:36Speaker 1: and Spencer Turnbull, each of whom, again, they didn't receive
- 24:39Speaker 1: the offer. Turnball was an obvious decision. Hoffman was less
- 24:44Speaker 1: of a guarantee, but the twenty one point zero five
- 24:48Speaker 1: million is a pretty steep price tag for any reliever.
- 24:52Speaker 1: So what could potentially apply for the Phillies in twenty
- 24:56Speaker 1: twenty five with regard to this is, you know, the
- 24:59Speaker 1: p they'd have to pay should they sign one of
- 25:02Speaker 1: the players who did receive one of these qualifying offers. Yes,
- 25:06Speaker 1: that includes one Sodo. As we know, the Phillies may
- 25:09Speaker 1: potentially be in on him, even though it's probably just
- 25:11Speaker 1: going to be between the Yankees and the Mets at
- 25:13Speaker 1: this point where Sodo goes, still, Phillies are going to
- 25:16Speaker 1: be there. Because the Phillies did pay the luxury tax.
- 25:20Speaker 1: Signing a player like that would strip them of both
- 25:23Speaker 1: their second and fifth highest selections in the twenty twenty
- 25:26Speaker 1: five MLB Draft. They'd also lose a million dollars in
- 25:29Speaker 1: international signing money. So this is kind of that start
- 25:33Speaker 1: to the season Eric where this Phillies team I think
- 25:36Speaker 1: at this point they're not going to care if they
- 25:38Speaker 1: spend money. They want to win. That's why they are
- 25:41Speaker 1: going to be dipping their toes in the jan soda
- 25:43Speaker 1: water here. But with regard to these qualifying offers and everything,
- 25:49Speaker 1: you know, I if they decide to get one of
- 25:52Speaker 1: the thirteen guys, I don't want to go through the
- 25:54Speaker 1: entire list of guys here. I do have it in
- 25:56Speaker 1: front of me. But you know, we've got some Mets,
- 25:58Speaker 1: some Yankees, some ball more guys as well. If they
- 26:02Speaker 1: decide they want to get them. I mean it's gonna
- 26:03Speaker 1: it's gonna it's gonna cost him for sure, But I
- 26:06Speaker 1: don't think that's gonna matter because this team is going
- 26:09Speaker 1: to be spending some money in the off season.
- 26:11Speaker 2: Well, we talked about the show a couple of weeks ago,
- 26:13Speaker 2: like that's kind of their only option. I mean, young guys,
- 26:16Speaker 2: they don't really have a lot Brandon Stott, you know,
- 26:20Speaker 2: like they got they got to address the Brandon marsh situation,
- 26:24Speaker 2: Like he's just he's just not a starter. I kind
- 26:27Speaker 2: of like Santander out out of Baltimore. Yeah, he might
- 26:30Speaker 2: be a nice any and he fits the profile. He's
- 26:32Speaker 2: thirty years old. You're gonna to overpay him a little bit,
- 26:35Speaker 2: but like that's kind of the your veteran team.
- 26:38Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't think.
- 26:39Speaker 2: I don't think you're gonna get Sodo. You're gonna have
- 26:41Speaker 2: to drop like six hundred million dollars, which sure, I
- 26:44Speaker 2: would love to have him right left handed bat with
- 26:47Speaker 2: a short porch at the bank, but maybe to go
- 26:51Speaker 2: different route, maybe to go Santander and and a starter
- 26:54Speaker 2: because you can't put you can't try Walker out there again?
- 26:57Speaker 1: Right next, what about Alex Bragman? What about Alex Bragman?
- 26:59Speaker 1: I mean, is a third baseman in stuff? Is not
- 27:01Speaker 1: an outfield type of guy. But Alex Bregman, I'm thirty
- 27:05Speaker 1: years old as well.
- 27:06Speaker 2: I like him too, but like what do you But
- 27:08Speaker 2: then what do you do with the kid? It's third base?
- 27:11Speaker 2: Like what do you where do you stick him? Where
- 27:12Speaker 2: you stick bomb?
- 27:13Speaker 1: Very true? I mean it's a good point if he's
- 27:15Speaker 1: going to be part of this roster moving forward. I
- 27:18Speaker 1: mean we think that he is, but you know, how
- 27:21Speaker 1: much more of a ceiling can he have? I can
- 27:24Speaker 1: only see him potentially having more struggles potentially down the road,
- 27:28Speaker 1: based on how the end of his season went. For
- 27:30Speaker 1: this team. I mean, he did overall, not a bad
- 27:33Speaker 1: season at all, But I'd rather have Alex Bregman than
- 27:37Speaker 1: Alex Boem.
- 27:39Speaker 2: Yeah, but maybe can he play out field?
- 27:41Speaker 1: I have no idea. I'm not sure. I'm not one
- 27:43Speaker 1: hundred percent sure.
- 27:44Speaker 2: Because you can't stick Bregman out there. But right if
- 27:46Speaker 2: that I like that move too, if they went that route,
- 27:49Speaker 2: but they're gonna have to. They're going to open the
- 27:52Speaker 2: check book one last time. Yeah, one one bad and
- 27:55Speaker 2: hopefully an arm two. I think if he solidified the
- 27:59Speaker 2: starting pitching again and you had another bat, you're in
- 28:02Speaker 2: good shape next year and your windows still like what
- 28:05Speaker 2: inch and a half something like that, I mean two inches?
- 28:07Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, let's not forget Andrew Painter is gonna be
- 28:10Speaker 1: likely with the organization, I mean, from our lips to
- 28:14Speaker 1: God's ears, someday, someday for sure. Right, what is the.
- 28:20Speaker 2: Last picture we called up that was just lights out
- 28:23Speaker 2: starter from day one?
- 28:24Speaker 1: Is it coal?
- 28:24Speaker 2: Handles?
- 28:25Speaker 1: Like? Definitely? Probably coal? Yeah, I think so.
- 28:31Speaker 2: Was like what two thousand and seven?
- 28:32Speaker 1: Yeah, well no, it was Aaron. It was Nola probably,
- 28:35Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, you're right, it was Nola. It
- 28:37Speaker 1: was Nola for sure, I mean that's still that's.
- 28:39Speaker 2: Still a while, that's two and like fifteen years.
- 28:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I know it would be nice to get another
- 28:46Speaker 1: arm for sure, it would be nice. We're definitely gonna
- 28:48Speaker 1: be talking more Phillies in the future on this podcast platform.
- 28:52Speaker 1: And if you like what you're hearing, subscribe on whatever
- 28:54Speaker 1: podcast platform you're on. You can also go on over
- 28:57Speaker 1: to Philadelphia Sports Table dot comm. It's where we have
- 28:59Speaker 1: all of our shows, and again Philadelphia Sportstable at gmail
- 29:02Speaker 1: dot com. We'd love to read your email about anything
- 29:04Speaker 1: we're talking about, anything you want us to talk about
- 29:07Speaker 1: here on the show, and we'd love to respond to
- 29:09Speaker 1: it as well. I am not going I'm not gonna
- 29:12Speaker 1: say our Twitter handles right now. Eric, not gonna do it.
- 29:16Speaker 1: I'm not happy right now with Twitter. I'm not happy
- 29:19Speaker 1: with a certain individual that owns it, so I'm not
- 29:22Speaker 1: gonna do it.
- 29:24Speaker 2: And it's also backed by Diddy, He's one of the
- 29:26Speaker 2: top financial god.
- 29:29Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, I'm just saying that.
- 29:31Speaker 2: Randomly, no reason behind it. I just want to make
- 29:33Speaker 2: that out to everybody.
- 29:35Speaker 1: Find us on threads, not that. Look I'm on threads.
- 29:38Speaker 1: I do post some stuff I don't know about you.
- 29:40Speaker 1: I don't. I don't know if I see a lot
- 29:41Speaker 1: of your thread stuff. Eric, are you doing thread stuff?
- 29:44Speaker 2: No, not at all.
- 29:45Speaker 1: Okay, mister Jeff Warren for me the show at Philadelphia
- 29:50Speaker 1: Sports Table over on threads and just follow Eric anyway,
- 29:53Speaker 1: just following Goose. He's gonna come over to threads. I
- 29:55Speaker 1: know it. At Slen ten twenty three. I know he's
- 29:58Speaker 1: gonna come over. I'm on there.
- 30:01Speaker 2: It's weird threads, it really is. I get the weirdest
- 30:04Speaker 2: post of like a lot of bots. I've noticed there
- 30:07Speaker 2: are some bots. Yes, I'm doing a better job at
- 30:10Speaker 2: blocking them. I'm doing a better job than I did
- 30:13Speaker 2: with Twitter initially. Like when Twitter started with the bots,
- 30:16Speaker 2: I was just like, okay, whatever, who cares?
- 30:18Speaker 1: And I kind of just let it get out of
- 30:19Speaker 1: control with with with the threads, I've been a lot
- 30:23Speaker 1: better with it.
- 30:25Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm probably not gonna join you. I'm gonna I'm.
- 30:28Speaker 1: Gonna of Twitter.
- 30:30Speaker 2: I'm probably gonna get blocked or suspended here by this
- 30:34Speaker 2: week at least once.
- 30:35Speaker 1: I'll go for it, buddy.
- 30:37Speaker 2: Yeah, it always funny. My daughter earlier asked me, She's like,
- 30:41Speaker 2: what's that thing you would write on Twitter that would
- 30:43Speaker 2: get you suspended, and I told her. She was like,
- 30:46Speaker 2: oh my gosh, yes, I love it.
- 30:52Speaker 1: I love it. Well, all right, I find Eric may
- 30:54Speaker 1: do it this week, so follow Eric can't brickpoll it
- 30:57Speaker 1: then on Twitter. All right, we're gonna take you a
- 31:01Speaker 1: quick break. We're gonna be back with just a bit.
- 31:03Speaker 1: We're gonna get a little tiny bit of college football talk,
- 31:05Speaker 1: but from the college playoff excitement angle, and then we're
- 31:09Speaker 1: gonna get into some sixers talks. Stick with us. We'll
- 31:11Speaker 1: be right back. All right, we are back. And for
- 31:15Speaker 1: folks that don't watch a ton of college football, I'm wondering,
- 31:19Speaker 1: you know, is this college football playoff really gonna be
- 31:22Speaker 1: the key that kind of brings them into the sport itself?
- 31:26Speaker 1: Because Eric, listen, I was actually thinking about this topic,
- 31:29Speaker 1: thinking about you, because I do know that you follow
- 31:31Speaker 1: college football.
- 31:32Speaker 2: I know when we.
- 31:32Speaker 1: Were all of us, our group, our group guy friends
- 31:36Speaker 1: were over at your house for the fantasy basketball draft
- 31:39Speaker 1: that we were doing, we had some college football on
- 31:41Speaker 1: in the background and stuff. But I don't think you're, like,
- 31:44Speaker 1: I don't know if you're into it as much as
- 31:45Speaker 1: I am in terms of following prospects and following you
- 31:49Speaker 1: know which teams could potentially make it into the college
- 31:51Speaker 1: Playoff and what teams might get kicked out, things like that.
- 31:55Speaker 1: But I think this college football Playoff is actually gonna
- 31:59Speaker 1: generate a lot more excitement with just football fans in general,
- 32:04Speaker 1: maybe folks that don't watch college football all that much
- 32:07Speaker 1: throughout the regular season, and I think it's actually gonna
- 32:10Speaker 1: help bring some more folks into the fold. I just
- 32:12Speaker 1: wanted to get your opinion on this as somebody who's
- 32:14Speaker 1: kind of like you're a college football fan a little
- 32:16Speaker 1: bit more maybe of an outlier perhaps, but I don't
- 32:19Speaker 1: know what are your thoughts about this?
- 32:21Speaker 2: Well, I mean, sell me on it, because I'm not
- 32:23Speaker 2: the biggest college football fan, right I follow Penn State.
- 32:27Speaker 2: That's my team, and I do I will watch like
- 32:30Speaker 2: a big Saturday night game. But is the expansion to sale?
- 32:36Speaker 2: Is that what you're selling me on? Like they're expanding
- 32:38Speaker 2: it's an actual playoff now.
- 32:39Speaker 1: It's an actual playoff with twelve teams. I mean, there's
- 32:42Speaker 1: going to be a bracket. It's not just the four
- 32:44Speaker 1: teams that it's been over how many years now, It's
- 32:46Speaker 1: not just the top four teams in a bracket. It's
- 32:49Speaker 1: the top twelve teams, and at this point, right here,
- 32:54Speaker 1: right here, as we are going into I believe it's
- 32:56Speaker 1: what we ten for college football as well, ten or eleven,
- 33:00Speaker 1: with Oregon being number one, Ohio State being number two,
- 33:03Speaker 1: Georgia's three, Miami's four, Texas is five, Penn State drops
- 33:08Speaker 1: to six after losing to Ohio State. Tennessee is at seven,
- 33:12Speaker 1: Indiana in the Big Ten is at number eight, BYU
- 33:15Speaker 1: is at number nine, Notre Dame, ten, eleven Alabama, and
- 33:20Speaker 1: twelve Boise State. And my thought is here is that
- 33:24Speaker 1: I just went through the list of schools there, Eric
- 33:27Speaker 1: and because of this, there's a changing dynamic I think
- 33:30Speaker 1: within the college football world now. And a lot of
- 33:32Speaker 1: it is probably because of coaching changes throughout different different conferences,
- 33:37Speaker 1: and the conference is changing themselves too, But the old
- 33:41Speaker 1: powerhouses of college football, they're really gonna have to earn it.
- 33:46Speaker 1: And I like to see that it's like for the
- 33:47Speaker 1: first time in like thirty years, thirty forty years, some
- 33:50Speaker 1: of these some of these old powerhouse teams, they're gonna
- 33:55Speaker 1: be squirming, you know, to actually get to that next level,
- 33:59Speaker 1: to get to the level of quote respectability that they
- 34:02Speaker 1: have been at for so long because other teams have
- 34:05Speaker 1: a chance, a very viable chance, and the energy. I
- 34:08Speaker 1: think that the playoff is going to give certain schools
- 34:12Speaker 1: that haven't seen or had the opportunity to have that
- 34:15Speaker 1: national spotlight on them. I think could really change the
- 34:18Speaker 1: dynamic and create a more excitement or more exciting dynamic
- 34:22Speaker 1: throughout the entire playoff. So that's where I'm coming from.
- 34:25Speaker 1: I don't know if I sold it to you, but
- 34:26Speaker 1: that's my thoughts.
- 34:28Speaker 2: Now, did that works? Like when they first announced, like
- 34:32Speaker 2: the four team playoff, like that's not a playoff exactly?
- 34:35Speaker 2: I thought it stunk, Yeah, like like a torrent, like
- 34:38Speaker 2: you can't call yourself a like you can't compare yourself
- 34:42Speaker 2: to like and they weren't, but in my mind they
- 34:44Speaker 2: were with NCAA the tournament, Yeah with four teams, Like
- 34:49Speaker 2: you're never going to beat that concept to the college level, right.
- 34:51Speaker 1: Is A It's such an amazing idea.
- 34:54Speaker 2: I don't know who came up with it originally, but
- 34:56Speaker 2: like just this random like sixty four teams and one
- 34:59Speaker 2: day each other. It's like, oh my god, this is
- 35:01Speaker 2: so cool. I thought college football should have like approached
- 35:05Speaker 2: that that theory like a long time ago, but it's
- 35:08Speaker 2: a lot harder with football.
- 35:09Speaker 1: I get that.
- 35:10Speaker 2: So I really do appreciate the twelve and I actually
- 35:14Speaker 2: will watch. What I will say is my team Penn State.
- 35:20Speaker 2: They have no chance with.
- 35:24Speaker 1: Will see.
- 35:27Speaker 2: I'm not trying to promote another podcast, but like, I
- 35:31Speaker 2: love when I love when guys get old enough where
- 35:34Speaker 2: they hit that point of they don't give a shit.
- 35:36Speaker 2: And I don't mean like your uncle at the Thanksgiving
- 35:39Speaker 2: table being racist kind of thing, Like yeah, I'm talking
- 35:42Speaker 2: more like Mike Lombardi on the GM Shuffle. He doesn't
- 35:46Speaker 2: give a fuck anymore. It's one of the best listens
- 35:49Speaker 2: of the week. Now, it's real.
- 35:51Speaker 1: It's a thirty.
- 35:51Speaker 2: Minute show boom, he's in, he's out, but he he is.
- 35:55Speaker 2: He slices and dices and he's just absolutely real about
- 35:59Speaker 2: his thoughts about football and he knows the game. And
- 36:01Speaker 2: he actually talked about James Franklin in the Penn State.
- 36:05Speaker 2: He only does NFL, but he actually had to bring
- 36:07Speaker 2: it up how awful the play calling was. Yes, just
- 36:10Speaker 2: the way he lays it out. I was like, oh
- 36:11Speaker 2: my god, he's so right. We are so fucked.
- 36:15Speaker 1: I hate laughing about it, but I think it's correct,
- 36:18Speaker 1: because even.
- 36:19Speaker 2: I text you guys like two runs up the gut
- 36:20Speaker 2: are you kidding? And he vibrating on it, and I
- 36:23Speaker 2: was like it just it broke my heart. I was
- 36:25Speaker 2: It's one of those realistic slaps in the face, like
- 36:27Speaker 2: cold water to the face to thing. I was like, Wow,
- 36:30Speaker 2: We're never gonna We're never gonna, We're never gonna like
- 36:33Speaker 2: overstep or get out of his get out of his
- 36:36Speaker 2: way back.
- 36:37Speaker 1: There's just no way around it. Like it just sucks.
- 36:39Speaker 1: It was such a kick to the nuts. I was
- 36:41Speaker 1: actually on a local TV show. They had me doing
- 36:44Speaker 1: a five six minute segment on Penn State this past weekend,
- 36:49Speaker 1: and one of the anchors is an Ohio State guy
- 36:53Speaker 1: and stuff, and he ends the segment with the Ohio
- 36:55Speaker 1: State fight song and it like surprising me and stuff,
- 36:58Speaker 1: and I was like, oh, yes, Sun, like son of
- 37:00Speaker 1: a bitch, and and just for the game to go
- 37:03Speaker 1: the way that it did and then for the election
- 37:06Speaker 1: to go the way that I'm like beaten down. I'm
- 37:09Speaker 1: down trodden at this point, but I go ahead, I'm sorry.
- 37:13Speaker 2: Just the athletes he has on offense, Yeah, to run
- 37:17Speaker 2: a to run three times up the gut, Yes, on
- 37:20Speaker 2: a first and goal, Like that's a nineteen sixties mentality,
- 37:24Speaker 2: Like what do you like you have? You have one
- 37:26Speaker 2: of the best tight ends in college football, the best, Yes,
- 37:30Speaker 2: and you're like, let's go USC up the middle nineteen
- 37:33Speaker 2: sixty eight like or like the why yes how stateon
- 37:37Speaker 2: knew was coming?
- 37:38Speaker 1: Like it was like the old Joe Paterno type of stuff.
- 37:41Speaker 1: You'll almost to do it in remembrance of Joe.
- 37:44Speaker 2: Yeah, which works in like nineteen eighty four, right, get it,
- 37:46Speaker 2: like exactly, he's just so advanced now it's not gonna
- 37:49Speaker 2: work right.
- 37:50Speaker 1: Well, I think it's gonna be an interesting college football
- 37:53Speaker 1: playoff for sure, and we're probably gonna be talking about
- 37:56Speaker 1: on this college, on this college, on this podcast platform
- 38:00Speaker 1: in the very near future. But before Eric, before I
- 38:03Speaker 1: let you go, before we get to what we're throwing
- 38:04Speaker 1: down on the table this week in our interview, we've
- 38:06Speaker 1: got to talk about the sixers. It's going to be
- 38:08Speaker 1: a great segue for what we're going to be talking
- 38:10Speaker 1: about with you know, Troy when he comes on. But Embiid,
- 38:14Speaker 1: as we know, has been suspended for three games due
- 38:16Speaker 1: to the incident with Marcus Hayes in the locker room
- 38:18Speaker 1: after the Memphis game, and I just like, I actually
- 38:23Speaker 1: genuinely feel bad for Embiid. I feel bad that he
- 38:28Speaker 1: had to have that written about him in all seriousness,
- 38:31Speaker 1: And again, you know, I know you'll probably get get
- 38:34Speaker 1: tired of it, but being a public official, some of
- 38:36Speaker 1: the crap that gets written about you that you just
- 38:39Speaker 1: can't do anything about. You know, you have people writing
- 38:41Speaker 1: things about you that have either never met you, never
- 38:44Speaker 1: had a conversation with you. But I'm sure Marcus Hayes
- 38:47Speaker 1: has had conversations perhaps with joe El Embiid. But the disrespect,
- 38:52Speaker 1: just the awfulness of what Marcus Hayes wrote and the
- 38:56Speaker 1: fact that there were no consequences for him at all.
- 39:00Speaker 1: And he's one of these writers, like Francis said, you know,
- 39:03Speaker 1: you know, he's a hack writer. Francis are from the
- 39:06Speaker 1: UH listener feedback earlier, just a hack writer. And it's
- 39:10Speaker 1: unfortunate that that type of writing and even an individual
- 39:14Speaker 1: like Marcus Hayes is credentialed. When we talk to so
- 39:17Speaker 1: many different writers on this podcast platform and have for
- 39:21Speaker 1: well over eleven years, who are such good writers. They
- 39:25Speaker 1: report such good stuff. They know the game, they know
- 39:29Speaker 1: the sixers, they understand the dynamics, the chemistry with the team,
- 39:34Speaker 1: and they don't get credentialed. But Marcus Hayes, he keeps
- 39:37Speaker 1: his credentials even after this one hundred thousand dollars that well,
- 39:42Speaker 1: well that's what the Sixers were fined, and that's even
- 39:44Speaker 1: that that's because of the load management stuff, which I'm
- 39:47Speaker 1: going to be getting into into that with Troy. But
- 39:50Speaker 1: this three game suspension, it's just it's so pathetic. It's
- 39:54Speaker 1: so pathetic what the media is sports mediat times has become.
- 40:00Speaker 1: And I actually I genuinely he Inbiad shouldn't have done it,
- 40:03Speaker 1: but I genuinely feel bad for him. What's your take
- 40:06Speaker 1: on it here?
- 40:07Speaker 2: Well, I'll start with the embiads side. The last thing
- 40:12Speaker 2: he needed and the team needed was you know, you
- 40:16Speaker 2: actually had an offseason where you had cab money. And
- 40:19Speaker 2: that's almost a recipe for disaster every year because most teams,
- 40:25Speaker 2: the free agent never comes to your team, that's usually
- 40:27Speaker 2: how it works, and then you wind up like spreading
- 40:29Speaker 2: that cap money across like two or three like mediocre players,
- 40:33Speaker 2: and then you're in cap hell for like five years
- 40:35Speaker 2: and you wind up winning like forty six games. It's
- 40:38Speaker 2: usually a bad move. But they actually got Paul George.
- 40:40Speaker 2: They actually signed a ton of good players that know
- 40:43Speaker 2: their role, they fit in with the they fit in
- 40:46Speaker 2: with the team perfectly, Caleb, Martin, Gordon. So the last
- 40:51Speaker 2: thing you needed, like it was going to be all
- 40:53Speaker 2: business this year and beats like it's all about the
- 40:56Speaker 2: playoffs alway should have been whatever.
- 40:58Speaker 1: Yep.
- 40:59Speaker 2: What the last thing they needed was him to not
- 41:02Speaker 2: play and him to become a story, and that went
- 41:05Speaker 2: completely fucking south. They're one and five, they're currently tied
- 41:09Speaker 2: with the Clippers right now at halftime. And he hasn't
- 41:12Speaker 2: played a single game and he had a rough summer too.
- 41:15Speaker 1: I would say he went to the Olympics.
- 41:17Speaker 2: I don't think he performed very well in my opinion
- 41:19Speaker 2: for the most part. So the last he needed to
- 41:23Speaker 2: come into the season and just dominate, put up thirty points,
- 41:27Speaker 2: ten rebounds a game and just kick ass, and he
- 41:31Speaker 2: did the complete opposite. And if he was hurt, just
- 41:33Speaker 2: fucking admit you're hurt.
- 41:34Speaker 1: It's fine.
- 41:34Speaker 2: Yeah, shame on him for that. He really fucking handled
- 41:38Speaker 2: this incorrectly. He got three more years and like one
- 41:43Speaker 2: hundred and some million dollars from the Sixers. He should
- 41:45Speaker 2: just come in and not been the story and just perform.
- 41:47Speaker 2: So fuck you and b for that one. Okay, sorry,
- 41:50Speaker 2: but Marcus Hayes' side of it right, like he is
- 41:55Speaker 2: a hack correct, Yeah, but he's he's a he's a
- 41:58Speaker 2: hit piece artist. That's what he does. And he's been
- 42:01Speaker 2: in the Philadelphia media for a long long time. He's
- 42:04Speaker 2: actually survived. There's so many guys that have been fired
- 42:08Speaker 2: or passed away and he's somehow he's like this show.
- 42:13Speaker 2: While the world's burning down, he's still there in Philadelphia
- 42:16Speaker 2: riding the same horseshit pieces with Like there was always
- 42:20Speaker 2: our gripe about guys like him where he would write
- 42:23Speaker 2: like one sentence paragraphs because it's so deep.
- 42:27Speaker 1: Yes, oh my god, this sentence is a relevant point.
- 42:32Speaker 2: We're all waiting for the next sense. We can't wait
- 42:35Speaker 2: to see what you write next. And it's always horseshit
- 42:38Speaker 2: that that's his job.
- 42:39Speaker 1: He's like Stephen A.
- 42:41Speaker 2: Smith on TV, but he doesn't in written form, yeah,
- 42:44Speaker 2: because he was never good enough to actually be on TV.
- 42:46Speaker 2: He was, but he sucked at it. Like you know,
- 42:52Speaker 2: eventually you're gonna write something that is like over the line,
- 42:57Speaker 2: and you know the dead brother, his son, like that
- 42:59Speaker 2: kind of thing.
- 43:00Speaker 1: Thing.
- 43:00Speaker 2: Obviously you want to tell him, be like, hey, don't
- 43:02Speaker 2: be a story, don't get worked up over this. But man,
- 43:07Speaker 2: I think he I think he did overstep the line,
- 43:09Speaker 2: and like that's you know, eventually it's like man, de man,
- 43:12Speaker 2: and it's like, dude, I'm not going to take your bullshit,
- 43:15Speaker 2: like fuck you.
- 43:16Speaker 1: You talk about somebody's kid, when you talk about a kid,
- 43:19Speaker 1: when you talk about a kid, it's way way over
- 43:22Speaker 1: the line.
- 43:24Speaker 2: But unfortunately, they play right into his hands because now
- 43:26Speaker 2: he's in the news and he's never get fire because
- 43:29Speaker 2: that's kind of what whoever whoever he works for now
- 43:32Speaker 2: I don't even fucking know. He's the inquiry sure, you know,
- 43:36Speaker 2: but like like that, that's that's the unfortunate side effect
- 43:40Speaker 2: of this is that he got publicity out of this,
- 43:41Speaker 2: and they're going to be like, whoa, you want a
- 43:43Speaker 2: new contract because this is exactly what the fuck you want.
- 43:45Speaker 2: You're not a good You're not good a reporter. You're
- 43:47Speaker 2: you're just full of ship and we know that.
- 43:49Speaker 1: But I will, of.
- 43:51Speaker 2: Course finish this story with my Marcus Hayes story. Uh yes,
- 43:58Speaker 2: so for a while, uh, Mark says, and I lived
- 44:00Speaker 2: in Old City at the same time. We went to
- 44:02Speaker 2: the same gym, and uh. He would always run on
- 44:05Speaker 2: the treadmill in biker shorts, like really tight biker shorts
- 44:10Speaker 2: ones that he had no right, he had no right wearing.
- 44:14Speaker 1: Really tight, like you could really see a lot of
- 44:16Speaker 1: stuff going on.
- 44:17Speaker 2: You could see everything going on. And he would walk
- 44:20Speaker 2: from his apartment to the gym. You would see him
- 44:22Speaker 2: on the sidewalk and he literally looked like meat loaf
- 44:26Speaker 2: smushed into the biker shorts. It was so disgusting, And
- 44:30Speaker 2: I remember, I don't think I was even texting at
- 44:32Speaker 2: that time because it was so early two thousands, but
- 44:34Speaker 2: I remember just being like like like doing my arms
- 44:38Speaker 2: and looking up at the treadmills up across the top
- 44:41Speaker 2: and seeing him, just like, God, I hate you, like
- 44:43Speaker 2: I hate your writing, they hate what you stand for, and.
- 44:47Speaker 1: I hate you wearing those shorts.
- 44:48Speaker 2: It's so disgusting if you're here to get if you're.
- 44:51Speaker 1: Here to like work out.
- 44:52Speaker 2: And also like hit on some girls that ain't gonna that,
- 44:54Speaker 2: ain't it, dude, that ain't gonna fucking work gross?
- 44:57Speaker 1: You're really fucking gross. Check out the meat loaf ladies.
- 45:02Speaker 2: I got the bubble like check out the moon bubble
- 45:05Speaker 2: like crater ass I have going on in my disgusting Yeah,
- 45:09Speaker 2: I yes, I love. He's gross inside and on and physically.
- 45:15Speaker 1: There you go. There you go. All right, great way
- 45:17Speaker 1: to en the segment. Right there, buddy, I'm gonna let
- 45:20Speaker 1: you go. Do you have anything else before we head
- 45:23Speaker 1: out and before we get to what we're thrown on
- 45:25Speaker 1: a table?
- 45:26Speaker 2: His biker shorts and the meat looking is Donald Trump
- 45:30Speaker 2: of biker shortshy and disgusting.
- 45:34Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, buddy, I'm gonna let you go. We
- 45:39Speaker 1: are going to take a break, folks, and when we
- 45:41Speaker 1: get back, we're gonna have some more more Sixers talking
- 45:44Speaker 1: where this team is at right now, talking about some
- 45:46Speaker 1: of these role players as well. Stick with us. We'll
- 45:49Speaker 1: be right back. All right, we are back. Let's getting
- 45:53Speaker 1: more Sixers talk. It's what we're thrown down on the
- 45:55Speaker 1: table and now on the table joining us this week
- 46:01Speaker 1: to get into this Philadelphia seventy six ers team. He's
- 46:04Speaker 1: a contributor over at Fansided's the sixercents dot com, and
- 46:09Speaker 1: you can also hear his voice on Planet seventy six,
- 46:13Speaker 1: that podcast that you can get on any major podcast platform.
- 46:16Speaker 1: We've got the one and only Troy Van Camp.
- 46:18Speaker 4: How you doing, Buddy, I'm doing great, Jeff. It's a
- 46:21Speaker 4: privilege to be back on this is awesome.
- 46:23Speaker 1: I appreciate you taking the time. I really do, because
- 46:26Speaker 1: we had a lot to get into with regard to
- 46:28Speaker 1: this seventy six ers team. We're recording this interview on Tuesday,
- 46:32Speaker 1: November fifth, and the news just came out today that
- 46:36Speaker 1: Joel Embiid is going to be suspended for three games.
- 46:40Speaker 1: Of course, I didn't have those in the topics that
- 46:42Speaker 1: I threw over to you before our discussion, but Troy
- 46:46Speaker 1: Man I, my co host Eric and I were just
- 46:49Speaker 1: talking about it, and it's just I just wanted to
- 46:52Speaker 1: get your take, you know, right off the bat of
- 46:54Speaker 1: this the suspension here. We're certainly going to get into
- 46:56Speaker 1: the start of this season and what his absence is
- 46:59Speaker 1: also meant. But this, uh, this suspension here, what are
- 47:03Speaker 1: your thoughts here, because it's like I feel downtrodden quite frankly,
- 47:06Speaker 1: what are you thinking?
- 47:08Speaker 4: Yeah, no doubt, it's uh, definitely right on Q I think,
- 47:11Speaker 4: or right on par I should say, maybe with the
- 47:13Speaker 4: start of the season so far, it's uh, it's disappointing.
- 47:17Speaker 4: You know, it's almost like to be a fly on
- 47:19Speaker 4: the wall in the locker room that night, you know,
- 47:21Speaker 4: with what happened to kind of get a better picture
- 47:24Speaker 4: of how it went down. But uh, you know, disappointed obviously.
- 47:28Speaker 4: You know, I haven't heard Joel's made any remarks about
- 47:30Speaker 4: it or anything like that, but uh, yeah, you know,
- 47:32Speaker 4: obviously lost this cool a little bit. And uh, it's
- 47:35Speaker 4: gonna have to sit. I mean, not that he's already
- 47:37Speaker 4: he's already been sitting. There were rumors that he was
- 47:38Speaker 4: going to play against the Clippers. Obviously that's not going
- 47:40Speaker 4: to happen. But you know, the hope is he sits
- 47:43Speaker 4: out these three games and in game four comes around.
- 47:45Speaker 4: Whenever that is, I think we'll be back home at
- 47:46Speaker 4: that point. Uh. This is uh just on par like
- 47:53Speaker 4: I said, with how this season has been so far.
- 47:55Speaker 1: Absolutely all right, well let's get into this early part
- 47:58Speaker 1: of this sixer season, because it really has been a mess.
- 48:02Speaker 1: They didn't have Paul George for the first five games. Again,
- 48:04Speaker 1: this indeed situation is just at the front of everyone's mind.
- 48:08Speaker 1: They haven't won a home game yet as of us
- 48:10Speaker 1: recording this, folks, it may be dramatic to say this, Troy,
- 48:15Speaker 1: but it feels like a lost season. And I know
- 48:18Speaker 1: we're only a few games in. It does sound dramatic
- 48:20Speaker 1: to say that, but we're all frustrated, and I'm wondering,
- 48:24Speaker 1: how should we really be looking at things long term
- 48:27Speaker 1: here this season, this twenty twenty four, twenty twenty five season,
- 48:30Speaker 1: with this team here, because I feel like so much
- 48:33Speaker 1: has been lost already. What are your thoughts?
- 48:36Speaker 4: Yeah, it's it's been a whirl win so far, and
- 48:40Speaker 4: you know, we're an overtime went away from being oh
- 48:42Speaker 4: and six. You know, it's like you're crazy to even
- 48:44Speaker 4: think about that. And it's not the start of the
- 48:48Speaker 4: season anybody envisioned. But they've been without Joelle, they've been
- 48:53Speaker 4: without Paul George other than last night against Phoenix, and
- 48:56Speaker 4: it's been hard. I think the thing I keep coming
- 48:59Speaker 4: back to is, well, we know that Joel and Paul
- 49:03Speaker 4: George are gonna miss games, uh later in the season too.
- 49:06Speaker 4: So if you think there's gonna be a five sixty
- 49:08Speaker 4: seven game stretch where both those guys aren't gonna play
- 49:10Speaker 4: in January or February, is this team really gonna go
- 49:14Speaker 4: one in six?
- 49:14Speaker 1: You know?
- 49:15Speaker 4: Zero to seven in those stretches later on, because that
- 49:18Speaker 4: would be concerning, you know, we I mean, I feel
- 49:21Speaker 4: like I've talked about it all the time on our
- 49:23Speaker 4: podcast over at Plane at seventy six, that you know,
- 49:26Speaker 4: you bring in Paul George, but then you also were
- 49:28Speaker 4: able to do something you wanted to do in acquiring
- 49:30Speaker 4: a lot of really high quality depth. You're bringing Andre Drummond,
- 49:33Speaker 4: who's the best backup that Joel's ever had.
- 49:36Speaker 1: Would Lord Drummond at this point? My gosh, Troy, what's
- 49:39Speaker 1: going on?
- 49:40Speaker 4: I don't know. It was mi Ia last night against Phoenix.
- 49:43Speaker 4: It was all Gershan in the you know, in the
- 49:45Speaker 4: second half, and it's just you know, it's almost like, Okay,
- 49:49Speaker 4: you bring in those depth pieces because you know that
- 49:52Speaker 4: George and Ed are going to miss games. You have
- 49:54Speaker 4: to win some games when they're not on the floor.
- 49:56Speaker 4: And right now we're not all hope isn't lost. You know,
- 49:59Speaker 4: we haven't seen the full picture yet and I'm still
- 50:02Speaker 4: very confident what this team will look like with when
- 50:04Speaker 4: Joel returns. But man, oh man, like as far as
- 50:08Speaker 4: seeding's concerned, as far as like, I mean, I know
- 50:10Speaker 4: it's November, but like you talk about playing, Like, if
- 50:13Speaker 4: Joel misses forty games and we go ten and thirty
- 50:16Speaker 4: in those games, who knows what we're gonna be looking
- 50:19Speaker 4: at in May in April.
- 50:20Speaker 1: Exactly exactly, Well, like we said, and as we know,
- 50:23Speaker 1: within Sixers Nation, here Paul George finally playing. He made
- 50:26Speaker 1: his debut against the Suns this week. As you had mentioned,
- 50:30Speaker 1: I mean, as of us recording this, we've only seen
- 50:33Speaker 1: him on the court for one game. Within that one game,
- 50:37Speaker 1: with what we saw last night with the Sun's game,
- 50:40Speaker 1: what did his presence mean on the court to you?
- 50:44Speaker 4: So I'm a I'm a pretty big Paul George fan,
- 50:46Speaker 4: you know, before we acquired him, and I've just always
- 50:49Speaker 4: loved the way he played. I think he's just one
- 50:51Speaker 4: of the smoothest players you see on the on the court,
- 50:53Speaker 4: especially on the offensive end, and we know what he
- 50:54Speaker 4: can do defensively too throughout his career. I think one
- 51:00Speaker 4: thing that I was like, Okay, that's gonna take some
- 51:01Speaker 4: getting used to is the amount of iso ball that
- 51:03Speaker 4: he plays. Yeah, seemed like time and time again in
- 51:06Speaker 4: the second half, you'd get the ball up top and
- 51:08Speaker 4: be waving some guys off, and I'm like, hmm, you know,
- 51:11Speaker 4: that's gonna take some getting used to it. I'm watching
- 51:13Speaker 4: him on my team.
- 51:15Speaker 2: And then.
- 51:17Speaker 4: I don't know if you saw what he said postgame,
- 51:19Speaker 4: he thought that we were down one. Yeh. On that
- 51:22Speaker 4: last possession after kd put put the Sons up by
- 51:25Speaker 4: two twenty four seconds, Paul George demands the ball late,
- 51:29Speaker 4: dribbles out the clock, doesn't get a shot up till
- 51:30Speaker 4: like three or four seconds, and misses a deep contested
- 51:33Speaker 4: two thinking we were down one. I don't know how
- 51:36Speaker 4: that really changes things, but like, I mean, you gotta
- 51:38Speaker 4: get you got to get it going earlier than that,
- 51:40Speaker 4: because again we saw it. They get a tap out
- 51:43Speaker 4: and then MAXI doesn't get a three off in time
- 51:45Speaker 4: he missed anyway, but like you got to you gotta
- 51:46Speaker 4: go a little earlier in the clock than that. All No, No,
- 51:49Speaker 4: I didn't like that.
- 51:50Speaker 1: I wish he had a drove instead of strike in
- 51:52Speaker 1: that deep too. Why not just drive to the basket.
- 51:55Speaker 4: He was four for fourteen on the night. I don't
- 51:57Speaker 4: think he had the I don't think he had the
- 51:58Speaker 4: right exactly have that ball in that situation. His first game,
- 52:02Speaker 4: But I don't know. That was kind of interesting, but
- 52:05Speaker 4: all in all, I'm excited to see him with this
- 52:07Speaker 4: team early am I like the way he plays and
- 52:09Speaker 4: I like what he brings.
- 52:09Speaker 1: Especially when Embiid gets back. Like you said, I mean,
- 52:12Speaker 1: we're just waiting for that to happen. It's not gonna
- 52:13Speaker 1: probably happen till maybe maybe no November twelfth or something,
- 52:16Speaker 1: when Embiid can potentially come back. It's it's look at
- 52:21Speaker 1: what's happening with the role players thus far, and I
- 52:24Speaker 1: think it's difficult to ask these guys and players to
- 52:27Speaker 1: do more than what they're used to doing or even
- 52:29Speaker 1: capable of being able to do night after night, especially
- 52:33Speaker 1: when you don't have a presence like Paul George and
- 52:36Speaker 1: Embiid for the first you know, five six games of
- 52:39Speaker 1: this season. But that's that's what the situation is at
- 52:43Speaker 1: this point here. What have you seen or not seen
- 52:46Speaker 1: from these role players and from the depth that has
- 52:49Speaker 1: been surprising for you early this season, whether it's from
- 52:52Speaker 1: a positive or negative standpoint. I don't know if you
- 52:54Speaker 1: have a couple guys in mind here, but you know,
- 52:57Speaker 1: what have you been seeing here from these role players?
- 52:59Speaker 1: Po that it was the negatives?
- 53:01Speaker 4: Sure, yeah, I think we already touched on one a
- 53:03Speaker 4: little bit. Andre Drummond one of the more negative ones.
- 53:05Speaker 4: I mean, he's just stuffed the stat sheet a couple
- 53:08Speaker 4: of times. But you know, I really did envision coming
- 53:12Speaker 4: into the season, man, this is great, especially when it
- 53:14Speaker 4: beads out, we'll be able to steal a couple of wins,
- 53:16Speaker 4: and we just we haven't done that.
- 53:18Speaker 1: He hasn't had much consistency.
- 53:20Speaker 4: Yeah, so that's one that's a little alarming. And then
- 53:25Speaker 4: Caleb Martin, I I like the pickup. I really really
- 53:28Speaker 4: don't like having him in the starting lineup. He just
- 53:30Speaker 4: hasn't shot the ball well yet from three especially. I
- 53:32Speaker 4: get we're only a few games in, but would love
- 53:35Speaker 4: to see him contribute a little more from beyond the arc.
- 53:38Speaker 4: And then the one that baffles me a little bit now,
- 53:42Speaker 4: I mean, Kyle Lowry's shooting the leather off the ball
- 53:44Speaker 4: in the early going. I mean, we love to see that.
- 53:46Speaker 4: But coming into the season, when we picked up Redgie Jackson,
- 53:49Speaker 4: I was like, man, maybe those two guys are going
- 53:51Speaker 4: to be used situationally, depending on what the need is
- 53:54Speaker 4: at the time. And I'm still in the camp if
- 53:57Speaker 4: I think Reggie Jackson can provide something, Okay, for this team,
- 54:00Speaker 4: and we've seen him very very little on the floor,
- 54:04Speaker 4: and yet we're where we're at for a reason, Like,
- 54:07Speaker 4: why hasn't he gotten a shot yet? Yeah, he's been
- 54:10Speaker 4: used sparingly and I think he's good now. Again, I
- 54:12Speaker 4: don't think that means, you said, Kyle because of what
- 54:14Speaker 4: he's done so far, But I mean we're down key
- 54:18Speaker 4: players and yet Reggie Jackson is still not getting an opportunity.
- 54:21Speaker 1: That one.
- 54:22Speaker 4: That one, I don't know if there's an injury that
- 54:24Speaker 4: we don't know about or something, but that one is
- 54:26Speaker 4: a little weird to me.
- 54:27Speaker 1: That is a little weird. Absolutely, Well, moving along here,
- 54:30Speaker 1: I wanted to talk about Tyre Smaxi too, because this
- 54:33Speaker 1: guy is just trying to do it all out on
- 54:36Speaker 1: the court, and he almost is doing it all even
- 54:38Speaker 1: though they have been coming up short time and time again.
- 54:42Speaker 1: He's third in the NBA right now in terms of points.
- 54:45Speaker 1: He's averaging thirty point two points per game. He's logging
- 54:49Speaker 1: forty one minutes on average per game. The guy's like
- 54:52Speaker 1: Superman on the court here. But at the end of
- 54:55Speaker 1: the day, he obviously can't do it by himself. He
- 54:58Speaker 1: cannot get it done alone. So what are your thoughts
- 55:02Speaker 1: on MAXI, his game early on this season, the pressure
- 55:05Speaker 1: he's probably putting on himself, and what it really means
- 55:07Speaker 1: to this team.
- 55:09Speaker 4: You love the kid, You love the hustle, he love
- 55:11Speaker 4: what he brings. Yeah, the smile that he plays with.
- 55:14Speaker 4: You know, he's just a lot of fun to root for, certainly.
- 55:18Speaker 4: And yeah, I mean he's shooting the ball a ton,
- 55:21Speaker 4: and I guess in a lot of ways he kind
- 55:23Speaker 4: of has to. Yeah, you know, he's almost forcing himself to,
- 55:27Speaker 4: like you said, but you know, it's real easy to say.
- 55:32Speaker 4: You know, when he goes and has a poor shooting night,
- 55:33Speaker 4: but he shoots the ball thirty times, they pump the
- 55:36Speaker 4: brakes a little bit. But again, given the situation to
- 55:39Speaker 4: start the season, he's kind of had to be that guy,
- 55:42Speaker 4: and he's had games that were worthy of winning, and
- 55:46Speaker 4: yet we just hadn't picked up wins yet other than
- 55:49Speaker 4: the game at Indiana. But you know, I remember last
- 55:52Speaker 4: night watching the game against Phoenix, he really got hot
- 55:54Speaker 4: in the second half. He made a couple of threes consecutively,
- 55:57Speaker 4: and then the next possession he had like a little
- 55:59Speaker 4: bit of a you know, a fast break opportunity. He
- 56:02Speaker 4: caught it on the wing and I was like, shoot it,
- 56:03Speaker 4: just just throw it up and shoot it. Yeah, and
- 56:05Speaker 4: he did and he missed. I was like, all right,
- 56:07Speaker 4: well maybe not maybe don't shoot that, you know, like
- 56:09Speaker 4: because it's like you want to you want to see
- 56:11Speaker 4: him succeed, you want to see him continue to be hot.
- 56:13Speaker 1: But it's like we can't love and choose it. It's
- 56:15Speaker 1: like we can't pick and choose with Tyres Maxey at
- 56:17Speaker 1: this point. We want him to I feel like we
- 56:20Speaker 1: need him to do everything, but we really don't want
- 56:22Speaker 1: him to do everything. If that makes sense to you
- 56:24Speaker 1: and to the folks out there listening, it's it's it's
- 56:27Speaker 1: really a conundrum that the poor guy is in at
- 56:30Speaker 1: this point as he's continuing to develop as an NBA
- 56:33Speaker 1: player and a top potential star here in this league.
- 56:37Speaker 4: No doubt, no doubt. Yeah he's I remember I think
- 56:39Speaker 4: it was a gaming in San Antonio kind of similar
- 56:41Speaker 4: situation last season. We were, you know, kind of in
- 56:43Speaker 4: that late season playing run and he was shooting it
- 56:46Speaker 4: every time down the floor. He had a really big
- 56:48Speaker 4: game we got to win, and yet like, yeah, it's
- 56:51Speaker 4: kind of hard to to to fault him for what
- 56:54Speaker 4: he does as far as the amount of shots that
- 56:57Speaker 4: he puts up. So I'm for it. I like what
- 57:00Speaker 4: he does. I like his work ethic and man like. Again,
- 57:04Speaker 4: he just cannot wait to see him with Paul and
- 57:07Speaker 4: with Joel healthy.
- 57:08Speaker 1: Yes, absolutely, it's gonna be fun. We gotta wait for it.
- 57:11Speaker 1: We gotta wait for it, folks. I hate waiting for stuff.
- 57:14Speaker 1: We're impatient. We're Philly sports fans. We're impatient again, folks.
- 57:18Speaker 1: We're talking to Troy Van Camp from from fan Sided's
- 57:23Speaker 1: The Sixers Sense and check out his podcast. Check out
- 57:27Speaker 1: his podcast as well, Planet seventy six, and make sure
- 57:30Speaker 1: you follow him on the Twitter slash x t van
- 57:33Speaker 1: Camp twenty two. Great great follow And as we're moving
- 57:36Speaker 1: along with the conversation here, Troy, it's not like the
- 57:40Speaker 1: Sixers are a team that's like constructed like Washington is,
- 57:44Speaker 1: you know what I mean. There's a lot of good
- 57:46Speaker 1: talent on this team, and some of that talent, of course,
- 57:49Speaker 1: brought in during this offseason. So I'm wondering what players
- 57:53Speaker 1: have stood out to you most this season from the
- 57:56Speaker 1: free agent aspect that were brought in that you believe
- 58:00Speaker 1: not only have made a difference but will continue to
- 58:03Speaker 1: make a difference. And Paul Georgia aside, we've only seen
- 58:05Speaker 1: him for one game, but of the players brought in
- 58:08Speaker 1: during this offseason, like, who who do you believe has
- 58:11Speaker 1: really made that difference to start this season.
- 58:15Speaker 4: Yeah this might sound a little crazy because I just
- 58:17Speaker 4: got on him a little bit for his lack of shooting.
- 58:18Speaker 4: But Caleb Barton, yeah you can. I mean he's affecting
- 58:22Speaker 4: the game in ways without having his shot fall. And
- 58:25Speaker 4: you know, he's still averaging double digit points. He's everything
- 58:27Speaker 4: like seven and a half rebounds early go and he's
- 58:29Speaker 4: playing a lot of minutes too. But he's a high
- 58:32Speaker 4: energy guy, very capable defender. You know, despite Kevin Durant
- 58:36Speaker 4: taking over in the fourth quarter, you know, Martin was
- 58:38Speaker 4: kind of the primary defender and he wasn't playing bad
- 58:41Speaker 4: defense for the most part. And so I just like
- 58:43Speaker 4: what he brings. I think he's going to continue to
- 58:44Speaker 4: be and we know what he's done in the playoffs
- 58:47Speaker 4: with his history, so I think he's really one guy.
- 58:50Speaker 4: And again still waiting on Andre Drummond. But I mean
- 58:54Speaker 4: we got Caleb Martin on a steel. I mean, for
- 58:57Speaker 4: whatever reason, he didn't want to go back to Miami
- 58:59Speaker 4: came here on a really great deal for the Sixers,
- 59:01Speaker 4: and I'm happy to have him. I think he's the one.
- 59:03Speaker 1: Okay, very good. And before I let you leave, wanted
- 59:07Speaker 1: to talk about another aspect of this Sixers team that
- 59:10Speaker 1: just is kind of mind boggling to me. And I
- 59:12Speaker 1: was actually on one of our local news stations this
- 59:14Speaker 1: past week and one of the reporters asked me about
- 59:17Speaker 1: this particular situation, and it's about the one hundred thousand
- 59:21Speaker 1: dollars fine that the NBA gave to the Sixers organization
- 59:24Speaker 1: with regard to the embid load management stuff and then
- 59:29Speaker 1: being way too transparent about it for whatever reason. But
- 59:34Speaker 1: like I said during the interview this past week again
- 59:38Speaker 1: on local news that I was on, it seems like
- 59:40Speaker 1: the NBA holds some sort of grudge against the Sixers.
- 59:43Speaker 1: And maybe I'm just jaded. Maybe it's that notion that
- 59:47Speaker 1: Adam Silver just doesn't like the Sixers front office. It's
- 59:50Speaker 1: like they have an axe to grind. And I'm not
- 59:53Speaker 1: a conspiracy guy at all by any stretch of the imagination,
- 59:56Speaker 1: but I do wonder if there's still maybe some animosity
- 59:59Speaker 1: from the league in general, from the old Sam Hanky years,
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: you know, the process, even though Sam Hanky is no
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: longer around. What are your thoughts on the fine and
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: how the NBA really kind of just acts towards the
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: seventy six ers in general.
- 1:00:12Speaker 4: Yeah, as a fellow Sixers fan with you, I think
- 1:00:14Speaker 4: there might be some.
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: Truth to it.
- 1:00:17Speaker 4: I like to think there is, because like, how do
- 1:00:18Speaker 4: how else do you make sense of it? Yeah, because
- 1:00:21Speaker 4: every team does this, right, every.
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: Team does it.
- 1:00:25Speaker 4: And I mean if you watch look back to the
- 1:00:27Speaker 4: playoff last year, Joelle's playing on one knee. Yeah, and
- 1:00:30Speaker 4: like that's not that long ago, you know. I mean,
- 1:00:32Speaker 4: whatever recovery he did this offseason, he obviously competed in
- 1:00:35Speaker 4: the Olympics and so you know, prevented him from maybe
- 1:00:39Speaker 4: doing full treatment that he should have done or whatever
- 1:00:42Speaker 4: the case may be there. But like he has a
- 1:00:45Speaker 4: history of being hurt. He wants to play. It's not
- 1:00:49Speaker 4: you know, even how he reacted to kind of Philly
- 1:00:51Speaker 4: fans' response to him not being on the floor, you know,
- 1:00:55Speaker 4: kind of spoke into that a little bit too. But
- 1:00:58Speaker 4: there might be something there. From the end, I don't
- 1:01:00Speaker 4: get it. You know, one hundred thousand dollars fine for
- 1:01:03Speaker 4: him you know, being hurt and you know, the Sixers
- 1:01:06Speaker 4: not I don't know, I don't know vocally going out
- 1:01:09Speaker 4: and describing what's going on, because I think all of
- 1:01:12Speaker 4: us Sixers fans are a little confused too. Yeah, but
- 1:01:15Speaker 4: obviously he's, you know, beside the aside from the suspension,
- 1:01:19Speaker 4: like he was gearing up toward playing maybe this week
- 1:01:22Speaker 4: out on the West Coast. Obviously that's not gonna happen now.
- 1:01:24Speaker 4: But yeah, I'm not a fan of how the NBA
- 1:01:27Speaker 4: has treated the Sixers and Joel and just again right
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: on par with how the seasons started.
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: Me.
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: Absolutely, it's been it's just been a mess so far.
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: You know, I've said this phrase before and everybody loves
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: these these phrases that I use. But you can't fall
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: out of a basement window, and that's where the Sixers
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: are right now at this point. They can only go
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: up from here again, folks. Troy Van Camp from the
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: Planet seventy six podcast, also a contributor over at the
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: sixersinse dot com over at fan Sided, Troy Buddy, it
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: was great talking to you. Thanks so much for taking

- 1:02:07Speaker 4: Dude, thank you so much. I will say this, the
- 1:02:10Speaker 4: last time I came on, six Ers season just ended.
- 1:02:13Speaker 4: This time I come on, they're one and five, So maybe,
- 1:02:16Speaker 4: just maybe next time wugh to be a more positive
- 1:02:18Speaker 4: looking conversations.
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: A little bit more positive exactly. We got to make
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: sure that happens. Troy. Well, we appreciate your time, my friend,
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: doubt thank you very much.
