- 0:11Speaker 1: Hello, Hello, Hey, you going for some reason? I'm straight
- 0:16Speaker 1: and you're sideways? What is happening here?
- 0:19Speaker 2: Hold on?
- 0:20Speaker 3: Yeah, you're sideways for me?
- 0:21Speaker 2: Actually okay, well your sideways in my phone? Hold on,
- 0:25Speaker 2: let's see what this thing's doings. It's supposed to do that.
- 0:28Speaker 1: There we go that.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Okay. I was like, what is happening?
- 0:37Speaker 1: All right?
- 0:44Speaker 3: I'm Kara from Heavy mag here with mister Wednesday thirteen
- 0:48Speaker 3: talking about his upcoming tour to Australia. How are we today?
- 0:52Speaker 1: I'm good, I'm good, I'm alive, and well it's getting
- 0:56Speaker 1: close to Wednesday.
- 0:57Speaker 2: See what I did then?
- 0:59Speaker 3: Yeah, actually quite confusing having an interview with Wednesday thirteen
- 1:02Speaker 3: on a Tuesday.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Story the story of my life and it's Monday for me,
- 1:07Speaker 1: so it's even more confusing.
- 1:09Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, about six o'clock in the morning Tuesday here
- 1:12Speaker 3: in Australia.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Oh whoa, yeah it is. Yeah.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Yeah, I'll be on that schedule soon. It's been a
- 1:21Speaker 1: been a busy day. I've been at the dentist and
- 1:24Speaker 1: I'm getting I'm getting.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Packed up for tour.
- 1:27Speaker 1: I leave for Europe for a month and a couple
- 1:30Speaker 1: of days, so I'm in the I'm a crazy person.
- 1:33Speaker 1: So I start pre packing, and you know the worst
- 1:35Speaker 1: thing to do is to get in the middle of
- 1:38Speaker 1: Europe somewhere and go, oh, I forgot this.
- 1:43Speaker 2: I need my action man, I need this dude, I
- 1:46Speaker 2: left him right there. So I'm pre packing. So he's
- 1:49Speaker 2: ready to go in the suitcase.
- 1:51Speaker 3: Is this a lucky ritual?
- 1:54Speaker 1: No, it's just this is a this is actually still
- 1:56Speaker 1: better stallone from the nineteen eighty five film Over the Top,
- 2:00Speaker 1: the arm wrestling movie. It's like as armed wrestling action
- 2:04Speaker 1: where he can actually arm.
- 2:06Speaker 3: Wrestle, so it's handy. Yeah.
- 2:09Speaker 2: So I'm going to take him to Europe with me,
- 2:14Speaker 2: just to ride in the bag.
- 2:17Speaker 3: Just to ride for free. No, let's so you ask
- 2:19Speaker 3: soon to be touring Australia with our very own Kim Dracula. So,
- 2:23Speaker 3: being a man of all things spooky yourself, are you
- 2:25Speaker 3: kind of happy to see that torch carried into the
- 2:27Speaker 3: next generation for three artists like Kim.
- 2:30Speaker 2: I love it. I love it.
- 2:32Speaker 1: I recognized the Kim Dracula name. I don't know how
- 2:36Speaker 1: long he's been out. I'm horrible at time, but it
- 2:38Speaker 1: feels like it's spent maybe a year and a half,
- 2:41Speaker 1: two years ago and I heard the name, and I
- 2:43Speaker 1: hear and I hear Dracula, anything, I want to check
- 2:46Speaker 1: it out. So I mean, you know, I'm like, all right,
- 2:50Speaker 1: So I didn't know what to expect, and and the
- 2:55Speaker 1: video and the visual everything was just it was insane
- 2:59Speaker 1: and it got my tension.
- 3:00Speaker 2: And uh and then flash forward, my.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Agent goes, hey, uh, if you heard of Kim Dracula,
- 3:06Speaker 1: they on a tour with you.
- 3:07Speaker 2: I'm like, let's do it.
- 3:08Speaker 1: And uh happened to be Australia, so it was a
- 3:11Speaker 1: cool place and.
- 3:11Speaker 2: Uh, just to cool to mix our audiences together.
- 3:15Speaker 3: You know.
- 3:15Speaker 1: I come back to Australia so often and I play
- 3:19Speaker 1: pretty much to the same audience. Not that that's a
- 3:21Speaker 1: bad thing, but I'm always looking to grow my audience
- 3:25Speaker 1: and meet new people.
- 3:26Speaker 2: I tell people all the time, I'm like, I'm your
- 3:28Speaker 2: favorite band. You just don't know.
- 3:29Speaker 3: It, you know.
- 3:30Speaker 1: It's just so it's just, uh, you know, with the
- 3:33Speaker 1: new record, and we were just trying to get in
- 3:35Speaker 1: front of more people. So so I'm doing a tour
- 3:38Speaker 1: with Kim Dracula and doing something with his audience and
- 3:41Speaker 1: may not know who we are. So it's a good
- 3:43Speaker 1: a good crossover and we we all we're all blood drinkers.
- 3:49Speaker 3: That's it, match Maiden speaking heaven.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Yeah exactly.
- 3:53Speaker 3: So other than your say vest it's the line that
- 3:55Speaker 3: you've already showed us. Do you have any other weird
- 3:57Speaker 3: rituals or anything that did it you've adopted over the
- 4:01Speaker 3: year before you perform.
- 4:03Speaker 1: I always listen to music. I've I've did it before.
- 4:07Speaker 1: I mean, since I've been touring for twenty years, I
- 4:10Speaker 1: always have a.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Little music player backstage.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Or in the beginning, you used to my little compact
- 4:15Speaker 1: disc player and we had to get a radio with batteries,
- 4:18Speaker 1: and now it's bluetoothed and your your Spotify, and so
- 4:23Speaker 1: I just I'm always I've got a playlist that's I'm
- 4:29Speaker 1: constantly adding to my playlist and it's just all hair
- 4:33Speaker 1: metal songs from late.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Eighties, early early nineties.
- 4:37Speaker 1: And I just I have to hear it before and
- 4:41Speaker 1: after the show.
- 4:42Speaker 2: It's like my warm up and my cool down.
- 4:45Speaker 3: It's still a Glen MetalMan, a hot all always always.
- 4:51Speaker 3: You recently released a fright mask of your Facebook fans
- 4:54Speaker 3: to wear scale of one to ten. How crazy you
- 4:57Speaker 3: would have been to look out in the crowd and
- 4:58Speaker 3: to see yourself looking back here.
- 5:01Speaker 1: I hope I get to see that we're actually going
- 5:05Speaker 1: to be selling some of them on the tour. So
- 5:07Speaker 1: I'm sure I'm going to see it at least ten
- 5:10Speaker 1: of them, because I'm bringing like ten on the tour
- 5:12Speaker 1: or to sell. Uh and the cool the weird thing
- 5:16Speaker 1: about them is they're like not normal size, They're like
- 5:20Speaker 1: they're bigger then so they look even they look even weirder.
- 5:24Speaker 1: And uh so I'll have one on stage. I don't
- 5:27Speaker 1: know what I want to do with it yet, I'm
- 5:29Speaker 1: gonna wear it myself. Uh you know, I mean I
- 5:33Speaker 1: want to dress up as myself as myself for Halloween.
- 5:37Speaker 3: Maybe. Oh that's still good. That's too good. I wanted
- 5:41Speaker 3: to touch on your running away film clip from your
- 5:44Speaker 3: new Aver mid Death Crisis. Now you said just be
- 5:46Speaker 3: very comfortable carrying a dead, whighted body. Is there something
- 5:49Speaker 3: that we can talk about on here? Or what's the
- 5:51Speaker 3: guy there? Have we done this before?
- 5:53Speaker 1: I picked her out because she's very small, and I
- 5:59Speaker 1: knew I could and I knew I could pick her
- 6:02Speaker 1: up at least for a little bit. That wasn't easy.
- 6:05Speaker 1: It isn't easy to do, but I made it look
- 6:09Speaker 1: as easy. I tried to I tried to be comfortable
- 6:12Speaker 1: to do it, and luckily most of those takes were
- 6:15Speaker 1: one take instead of doing it two or three times.
- 6:17Speaker 2: So I'm like, all right, you ready to do this?
- 6:21Speaker 2: You know, visually I had it in my head.
- 6:23Speaker 1: What I wanted to do with that, and it was
- 6:25Speaker 1: easy to do. And but yeah, I made it look easy,
- 6:28Speaker 1: but it wasn't that easy.
- 6:30Speaker 2: It's carrying. Carrying a body is a lot of work.
- 6:33Speaker 3: No kidding, That's what I thought. I'm like, damn, it's
- 6:35Speaker 3: just kind of just like, yep, enough we go.
- 6:37Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:39Speaker 3: So you've had photo shoots in mogs graveyards pretty much
- 6:43Speaker 3: anyway people don't normally want to bathe. Do you have
- 6:45Speaker 3: any weird stories or weird coincidences that have happened while
- 6:48Speaker 3: you've been in there?
- 6:52Speaker 1: No, I mean nothing that I can think of as
- 6:56Speaker 1: far as photo shoots or anything.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Nothing. Nothing. I mean.
- 7:00Speaker 1: The craziest thing we had happened when we were filming
- 7:03Speaker 1: our video, not the riding Away, but our in Misery video.
- 7:07Speaker 2: Someone started the fire.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Next to the highway and we had to stop filming
- 7:14Speaker 1: and go put the fire out in our full stage.
- 7:19Speaker 2: It was and that was a.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Viral video on my Instagram that got like ten million
- 7:24Speaker 1: views watching us put out a fire, yeah and full
- 7:30Speaker 1: and full costume, and we did it.
- 7:33Speaker 2: We put it out.
- 7:35Speaker 3: People would have think that was like a setup look
- 7:37Speaker 3: at these guys, and I know, I mean, I'm sure
- 7:40Speaker 3: it looked like it was.
- 7:41Speaker 1: It was insane, but yeah, that was the craziest thing
- 7:45Speaker 1: to ever happen on a video photo shoot.
- 7:49Speaker 2: Ever, I don't ever want to do that again. That
- 7:52Speaker 2: was terrifying.
- 7:54Speaker 3: No, you don't mess with file. That's insane.
- 7:56Speaker 1: No, as much as I love Piro on stage and
- 8:01Speaker 1: with other bands, I don't use it. I can't afford it.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Number one, But even if I could, I just I'm not.
- 8:08Speaker 2: I don't like fire. It's terrifying, and I like it
- 8:12Speaker 2: even less now.
- 8:14Speaker 3: I blame you. So I love your aesthetic and everything
- 8:18Speaker 3: about you. You greet people with like a good morning,
- 8:20Speaker 3: like the days already dead. Your website is a grave site,
- 8:24Speaker 3: all things like that. Everything's just fun, like we always
- 8:28Speaker 3: like this as a kid, or has this kind of
- 8:30Speaker 3: just been what you've mophed into over the years.
- 8:34Speaker 1: I adapted it. I mean, I mean I would watch
- 8:38Speaker 1: whatever made me laugh on TV. I loved the Adams
- 8:41Speaker 1: Family and Monsters as a kid, when I was watching
- 8:44Speaker 1: it as reruns, you know, as a.
- 8:45Speaker 2: You know, don't even know what I was even. I
- 8:46Speaker 2: didn't understand it. I was so little watching it.
- 8:49Speaker 1: I'm just but it was so natural and they're nothing
- 8:52Speaker 1: but puns on that show. Yeah, So it's like I
- 8:55Speaker 1: think it kind of came from that and then watching
- 8:57Speaker 1: cartoons and it's just like up on the little jokes there,
- 9:01Speaker 1: and I was watching like I was watching, you know,
- 9:05Speaker 1: rated R movies that I shouldn't have been watching at
- 9:08Speaker 1: an early age.
- 9:09Speaker 2: So I just I learned how to.
- 9:13Speaker 1: Talk and be funny and be witty and make it
- 9:16Speaker 1: work to my to my thing. So I try to
- 9:21Speaker 1: be a wordsmith with certain things. And if you read
- 9:24Speaker 1: it the wrong way.
- 9:24Speaker 2: Did he just said? What good morn? What what's this
- 9:28Speaker 2: guy about?
- 9:29Speaker 3: I like it? Yeah, so you just talked about the
- 9:33Speaker 3: Adams Family. But is it true that your name is
- 9:35Speaker 3: actually from Wednesday Adams.
- 9:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:38Speaker 1: I didn't know it was going to be a show
- 9:40Speaker 1: that would come back thirty years later or something.
- 9:44Speaker 3: You know.
- 9:44Speaker 1: I was a big fan of the show. I loved
- 9:46Speaker 1: her sarcasm. I really liked the movies as well. The
- 9:50Speaker 1: ones that came out in the early nineties, so it was,
- 9:54Speaker 1: you know, and my band at the time when I
- 9:56Speaker 1: first started it, we were called Frankenstein Drag Queens.
- 9:59Speaker 2: So my name was Wednesday thirteen.
- 10:01Speaker 1: So I used to wear a Wednesday Adams dress on
- 10:04Speaker 1: stage and so it was just that was that just
- 10:07Speaker 1: became my theme and and now it's a hit TV show.
- 10:12Speaker 1: So when you Google search Wednesday, I'm in. I'm in
- 10:16Speaker 1: the mix now mixed between old Wednesday, New Wednesday, and
- 10:19Speaker 1: then you got this Wednesday and you got ye. So
- 10:22Speaker 1: uh so maybe it brought a few people around. But
- 10:26Speaker 1: but yeah, yeah, definitely the inspiration. Uh yeah, she's like
- 10:30Speaker 1: the the the queen female sarcasm queen.
- 10:36Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, for sure. I was gonna ask you, what
- 10:38Speaker 3: do you think about the resurgence and the fact that
- 10:40Speaker 3: it's actually coach to be a bit of a weird these.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Days, you know. I I haven't even watched the new
- 10:47Speaker 2: the new series.
- 10:51Speaker 1: I know I'm aware that it's popular because I see
- 10:54Speaker 1: there's a breakfast cereal at the grocery store their face
- 10:56Speaker 1: on it, so I know it's popular. So you know, this,
- 11:02Speaker 1: all this type of stuff is my world. So if
- 11:05Speaker 1: I can turn on the TV and see, you know,
- 11:10Speaker 1: out of a family. Maybe I may not be into
- 11:13Speaker 1: it or whatever, but at least it's good to see
- 11:15Speaker 1: it's in my world. Yeah, you know, I prefer that
- 11:18Speaker 1: over the Kardashians.
- 11:20Speaker 3: Oh, any day of the week. And if you're getting
- 11:22Speaker 3: more hits, that's just even better.
- 11:25Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 11:27Speaker 3: Yes, So is there an alternative universe where instead of
- 11:30Speaker 3: a Wednesday thirteen, you've got a Thursday nine to five
- 11:33Speaker 3: and you're a completely different person? Is that like a
- 11:35Speaker 3: terrifying thought for you? Or who do you think you
- 11:37Speaker 3: would be if you weren't Wednesday thirteen?
- 11:40Speaker 2: Oh? Man, that was the fear. I you know, I
- 11:45Speaker 2: didn't want to be a normal person. That was the
- 11:48Speaker 2: fear to be normal.
- 11:50Speaker 1: And when I started doing this years ago, I felt
- 11:53Speaker 1: like I escaped that, and I still feel like I'm
- 11:58Speaker 1: on the run.
- 11:58Speaker 2: I've escaped it. He gets sucked back into that world.
- 12:01Speaker 2: I don't I don't want to do it, So I
- 12:05Speaker 2: don't know.
- 12:05Speaker 1: I can't even I can't imagine that because I only
- 12:09Speaker 1: imagined not doing that. Yeah, I don't know that I
- 12:14Speaker 1: could even imagine if that's if there is an alternate universe.
- 12:17Speaker 2: In that world, I don't. I don't want to know
- 12:19Speaker 2: about it. I don't want to work. This is all
- 12:23Speaker 2: I want to do.
- 12:24Speaker 3: I go to my cool shit and I'm happy here. Yeah,
- 12:28Speaker 3: did you always want to be a musician? Like finding
- 12:31Speaker 3: success around your twenty early late twenties is pretty amazing.
- 12:36Speaker 3: We always wanted to be a music would kind of
- 12:38Speaker 3: just really lucky.
- 12:42Speaker 1: I mean, before music, I literally wanted to be Rambo
- 12:51Speaker 1: as dumb as that sounds like, not like necessarily not
- 12:54Speaker 1: be him, but I thought, hey, I could do what.
- 12:57Speaker 2: He did a one man.
- 12:59Speaker 1: I wanted to be a one man army. I didn't
- 13:03Speaker 1: necessarily want to join the army. I just wanted to
- 13:05Speaker 1: be a one man army like Rambo. And I love
- 13:09Speaker 1: g I Joe Cartoon. I was obsessed with that. So
- 13:12Speaker 1: I liked military type kind of stuff, and I thought
- 13:15Speaker 1: that was going to be. You know, when I'm talking
- 13:18Speaker 1: when I'm eight nine years old, where are you going
- 13:20Speaker 1: to grow up and be I'm going to one man army?
- 13:25Speaker 1: And then watching like Nightmare on Elm Street and all
- 13:30Speaker 1: these horror movies. I kept seeing and hearing rock music
- 13:34Speaker 1: and I liked it, and then I started seeing the
- 13:36Speaker 1: imagery with it, and I liked it, and when I
- 13:40Speaker 1: got into rock music, I didn't. I didn't want to
- 13:43Speaker 1: be a one man army anymore. I wanted to play
- 13:45Speaker 1: music and I wanted to be in a band, and
- 13:47Speaker 1: then I got the dream of doing that. So since
- 13:51Speaker 1: I was ten eleven years old, I've been wanting to
- 13:56Speaker 1: be a successful musician. I wanted to be a guitar
- 14:00Speaker 1: our player at first, and then I became a I
- 14:03Speaker 1: became the singer out of necessity because we could never
- 14:07Speaker 1: find a singer, and then luckily I went to that
- 14:10Speaker 1: and that seemed to be my my calling.
- 14:13Speaker 3: Yeah, wow, that's so cool. So going back to the
- 14:17Speaker 3: conception of Wednesday thirteen the band, do you think if
- 14:20Speaker 3: Joe never went back to slip Knot that would have
- 14:23Speaker 3: changed the whole trajectory or.
- 14:26Speaker 1: To think about that All the time I think about
- 14:29Speaker 1: I think about what if we would have came off
- 14:31Speaker 1: the last Murder Dolls tour. Yeah, because it was I mean,
- 14:35Speaker 1: we were that was as hot as it got. We
- 14:38Speaker 1: had a charting song, we had White Wedding that was charting,
- 14:42Speaker 1: we had just did a sold out UK tour and
- 14:45Speaker 1: like and it was all the biggest venues before you
- 14:50Speaker 1: went to like the arena next or the next step
- 14:53Speaker 1: up or not, you know, And if we would have
- 14:56Speaker 1: went right into the studio and made a record and
- 14:59Speaker 1: came right back out on the buzz just in England alone,
- 15:03Speaker 1: I think we would have had a number one album.
- 15:05Speaker 1: I think we would have been on every I know it. Yeah,
- 15:11Speaker 1: now what would have I don't I know that would
- 15:14Speaker 1: have happened. Yeah, and I may have been we maybe
- 15:17Speaker 1: have made the number two record, but it would have
- 15:22Speaker 1: been massive just off the buzz alone that we created there.
- 15:27Speaker 2: And uh so I think about that.
- 15:30Speaker 1: It's sometimes, you know, I don't get mad about it
- 15:32Speaker 1: or anything. It's just kind of like, man, what what if?
- 15:35Speaker 1: You know? And even on the second record, you know,
- 15:38Speaker 1: like you know, I because Joey went back to sliptnot
- 15:42Speaker 1: on the second one too, And I had I had
- 15:45Speaker 1: a manager of a very very successful band. I'm not
- 15:49Speaker 1: going to say what band it is, but they're massive,
- 15:51Speaker 1: I mean massive right right now.
- 15:53Speaker 2: They are massive. And they told me they were like
- 15:56Speaker 2: the last.
- 15:57Speaker 1: Murder Dolls record was was great and your Nowhere song
- 16:02Speaker 1: should have been a hit, could have been a hit.
- 16:06Speaker 1: And you get people like that telling you stuff and
- 16:08Speaker 1: you go, fuck God, you know, that's just all that's
- 16:12Speaker 1: all just a guess, you know. But I got people
- 16:15Speaker 1: important people that whispered that, and you go, man, what
- 16:19Speaker 1: if you know?
- 16:20Speaker 2: But you know, I'm happy with what I've done.
- 16:24Speaker 1: I mean to have a ten album career, a twenty
- 16:27Speaker 1: year career.
- 16:29Speaker 2: I'm still being successful doing this.
- 16:32Speaker 1: I mean, no, I'm not playing arenas, No I'm not,
- 16:36Speaker 1: but I'm doing I'm doing this every year.
- 16:40Speaker 2: This is my job. I don't come home and do it.
- 16:42Speaker 2: This is what I do.
- 16:44Speaker 1: And I got fans all over the world, and there's
- 16:46Speaker 1: nothing more that I can ask for except more of it, bigger.
- 16:50Speaker 1: If it's all I get, this is the biggest piece
- 16:52Speaker 1: of the cake that I get.
- 16:54Speaker 2: I'm happy with my piece.
- 16:56Speaker 3: But the fact that you can't even just turn around
- 16:59Speaker 3: Rhian beenwah doing and still tour the world, now that's huge.
- 17:03Speaker 3: Not a lot of people can do that. Yeah, No,
- 17:06Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 17:06Speaker 1: I don't know any other musician or I mean, I'm not,
- 17:10Speaker 1: I'm just I don't know. It's luck now, Luckily did
- 17:14Speaker 1: it because of the murdered all stuff. But I don't
- 17:15Speaker 1: know any other people that went solo that's has a
- 17:19Speaker 1: twenty year.
- 17:21Speaker 2: Career.
- 17:22Speaker 1: You know, I stand out from a lot of people.
- 17:24Speaker 1: There's no one that's done it. Either they just didn't
