- Owen Wilson: Not sure that's the type of game that we all thought we were going to get, but one of the best games that I have seen and definitely Josh Allen's error. The Bills proved to four and one after a crazy game. We talk about now a Mafia Mayhem. All right, the Bills are four and one, and man, what a game. That was crazy. One of the best games that I have ever seen for sure. You know, thinking back 17 years prior to Josh Allen and the Josh Allen era, we're losing that game for sure. If we made it to overtime, that was a win, but we're definitely losing that game. Couple things I want to start off with first. The elephant in the room, I would think maybe is James Cook. In the fumbles. I think he's one of the top running backs, if not the number one running back since last year with the most fumbles. That's not good, but the Bills really can't do much about it because you're definitely not going to take him off the field. I mean, the games that the Bills have won are games that James Cook has had a great running game. And the games that the Bills may have won earlier in the season, it was a struggle, i.e., Chargers. Because when James Cook is not on his game, forget about the fumbles. When James Cook's not on his game, the passing game seems to disappear. Cook was hot, James Cook was rolling, and that helps the Bills offense altogether. So going into Oakland here, obviously the fumbling is an issue, but there's really not much you can do. You're definitely not gonna sit him. You know, this is just gonna be a practice things for James Cook. You know, they're gonna punch the ball out, peanut punch the ball out during practice. You know, maybe see James kind of put the ball through his chest a little, you know, double hand through his chest a little bit longer than we're used to seeing. But definitely a concern. So I'm not I don't wanna downgrade that piece of it, because it is a concern, but you're also not gonna take the leading rusher off the field. I mean, it's just we're just gonna live with it. We live with sugar high Josh, we're gonna have to live with James Cook. Fumbling the ball. Now, you hope that it cleans up in a way that, you know, this isn't a game to game process, but this is going to be the MO of teams on James Cook. They're going to try to punch that ball out. We've seen it all year and we saw it again in a crucial point of the game. Luckily, C Bass came in and took care of business for James Cook. So James Cook fumbling, not ideal. The Bills somehow recover for that and they end up winning. The defense, I want to hit on the defense real quick here for Mafia Mayhem. So look, the all season, the or since the start of the season, the defense has been an issue. The pass game has been an issue. The passing defense has been an issue. And I the reality of the situation is it's just we're just gonna have to live with the defense that we have here. Brandon Bean and Joe Brady aren't gonna go out and make huge changes on the defense. So kind of What we're seeing these last couple games, or really what we saw against the Rams, is probably the defense we're going to see. It's not the defense I don't think that we all well, I know that I didn't think that we would see a lot more man to man blitzing pressure, but I just think with the Bills a young secondary right now that we're gonna probably see a lot of zone defense, which is what we saw all the game the whole game against the Rams. Look, they're Their identity against their game plan against the Rams was keep everything in front. They can't afford to play man to man on that team. The cornerbacks just aren't that good enough to stay with the two wide receivers there. So although it was frustrating during the game that the Bills defense was playing, you know, more zone defense, I just think at the end of the day, we just don't have the the defense is not quite set up yet to really run. The Jim Leonard's defense. Now, I don't know if that's gonna change later on in the year, but right now it appears that the Bills are going to do more of a kind of zone concept, keep everything in front. Basically a check down, make the offense check down, which is frustrating at times, especially on the offense. You know, when teams do that with Josh, but I think this is really the only way that the Bills are able to stay in in the game is against the Rams, is by Keeping everything in front. Look, the first half of that game, that defense, I thought played well, really good. In fact, I was encouraged by the defense just because I thought that this was going to be lights out early in the game. You were nervous about that. You know, you have Josh Allen, he can come back. But when you got a defense that's real in there and you play a team like the Rams, if they get out to you early, you know. It could be lights out. So I thought the first half of the defense played really well. The second half, things got a little bit out of the out of hand there, but as more of a dictation of the Rams kind of changing how they went how they approached the offense, and they went more of kind of like short dink and dunks, which the Bills were willing to give them, which got them down the fields on that piece. Do I f I still think this is going to be an issue going forward? The defense is still not set up for. Super Bowl for sure. But is this is the blueprint of the Bills defense going forward? And that's going to be interesting. Damar Hamlin is a liability out there. I I again I'm not sure what else is out there for Damar. It just may be a thing. I've said this before, I've said it in the past. Damar Hamlin's a great guy. It is a great story, but when it comes down to football, he's just not there. It's just a liability for the For the Bills. If we're gonna roll into the into the Raiders here, then you got the Vikings and the Rams. It's gonna be very difficult for the Bills defense to have Damar Hamlin out there, especially if he's playing that nickel. Overall, the defense played a great game, certainly in the first half. They kept us in the game. TJ Sanders, the plays that he had had there, he looks dynamite. The one thing I want to point out is how crucial TJ Sanders' tackle was in the backfield on that two point conversion. Play the game. Play the game. Because if they convert that two point conversion, we're not winning the game or going to overtime. So TJ Sanders looks outstanding. So I'm really excited about that. Now to flip over to the offensive side of the ball, you know, again, we talked about James Cooks. Josh Allen, just an absolute beast. Took over the game as he should. You know, I going in this season, I really was hoping that the defense would would do a lot of good things. So Josh didn't have to take over games. But the situation is right now Josh Allen's got to be Josh Allen. Josh Allen's got to take off. Josh Allen's got to take this team and do what he needs to do. Definitely without DJ Moore there, this offense struggles on the passing game. So I have no idea what's going on with that. No idea where Dalton Kinkade is. I think he had two targets. I totally understand if DJ Moore's not there. Teams are definitely going to game plan for Dalton Kincaid. That is the second best wide receiver we have on the team. And they're apparently doing that just like New England did. They are taking Dalton Kinkade out of the game. Keon Coleman had another nice game. They'll Props a key on. He keeps stacking those up there. Teams are gonna have to look out for him. But right now, it's Dalton Ting Dalton Kincaid that teams are looking after if DJ Moore is not on the field. Josh Allen is a weapon. We've been asking for old running Josh Allen these last couple games, and we finally got it against the Rams, especially in the overtime. That is what I call positional game awareness runs by Josh Allen. Those are the runs that you want. Josh knows the time. Knows the down, knows the distance, knows the situation, and he takes it on himself to make sure things get done. And that's what we saw there. Is that going to be the MO going forward? I think so. I think Josh Allen has to be the MO going forward. And I think Josh Allen's legs are a huge piece of this offense. And I may be in the minority on this because of the hits and all that. And I get that. I'm not saying that he should be, you know, trying to get more hits, but Josh Allen's legs have got to play a part into that. Because teams have to scheme for Josh Allen running. And when they do that, that leaves the field wide open. In some cases, as we saw against the Rams. Ty Johnson. I was never a big Ty Johnson fan. He proved me wrong once again. The guy is dynamite. It's going to be interesting this season how teams defend against Ty Johnson because we when he's on the field, he's an absolute weapon. And Josh is going to him, especially on third down. So I overall, I really enjoyed. The offensive kind of movement here. although the fumbles and those type of things, it was a slow process getting off, but it was slow for the Rams. So it helped us out here. Lastly, props to the special teams. They started the game with a big kick return, and the special teams ended the game with Greg Russo's massive hands tipping that ball. I was watching the game just obviously, as many of you were, and I'm sure you all were thinking the same thing. That's a tip. That's a tip. But then realizing that bulk is still traveling, it's still going 47 yards, and it just barely missed the crossbar there to go in, thankfully. And then T Bass takes care of business when business needs to be taken care of. So props to T Bass. We lose those games during the 17 year old year drought. We lose those games not anymore.
