- 1:36Keri Croft: Sylvia, can Sylvia go get it?
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: Is your car locked?
- 1:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:38SPEAKER_01: Is it locked?
- 1:39SPEAKER_01: No, I don't lock my car.
- 1:40SPEAKER_01: I don't lock my car, the forerunner right in the front.
- 1:42SPEAKER_01: It's in the passenger seat on a hanger.
- 1:44SPEAKER_01: I didn't want to come in too aggressive.
- 1:45SPEAKER_01: I want to I want to see.
- 1:48Keri Croft: The ones that I do are self-applied.
- 1:50Keri Croft: Hold on.
- 1:50Keri Croft: No, you wear it just for, I'll style your hair for your event.
- 1:52Keri Croft: Wait, let's let's cut the shit.
- 1:54Keri Croft: First of all, you can't because I have a hairstylist that will literally, yeah.
- 1:59Keri Croft: But she cuts your hair.
- 2:00Keri Croft: She cuts it, but she also does extend it.
- 2:03Keri Croft: She also does extend.
- 2:04Keri Croft: Oh, you're gonna give me a halo.
- 2:05Keri Croft: Yes.
- 2:05Keri Croft: Wait, I can just put it in the way.
- 2:08Keri Croft: When the show's over, I'll take it out.
- 2:09Keri Croft: Also, Krista came in.
- 2:10Keri Croft: My girl Krista from Panacea.
- 2:12Keri Croft: Okay.
- 2:12Keri Croft: She has that.
- 2:13Keri Croft: Okay.
- 2:13Keri Croft: And she came in with it, and I was like, boo.
- 2:15Keri Croft: Yeah.
- 2:15Keri Croft: She's like, no, I can just take it in and out.
- 2:17Keri Croft: Because I can't do it.
- 2:18Keri Croft: Is that a halo?
- 2:18Keri Croft: Yes.
- 2:19Keri Croft: Stop it.
- 2:19Keri Croft: I'll take it out when we're done.
- 2:20Keri Croft: We can do that.
- 2:21Keri Croft: You need to take it out now so people can see.
- 2:23Keri Croft: Are we filming right now?
- 2:24Keri Croft: Yes.
- 2:25Keri Croft: Can you take it out and put it back in?
- 2:27Keri Croft: Can you put it back in?
- 2:28Keri Croft: Not without.
- 2:29Keri Croft: Oh, okay.
- 2:29Keri Croft: So why don't we do this?
- 2:30Keri Croft: Why don't we I'll put yours in for social media though, we can show you putting it in and out.
- 2:35Keri Croft: Yes.
- 2:35Keri Croft: Okay.
- 2:35SPEAKER_01: But at the end, I'll take it out, but it looks good right now.
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: It is fine.
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: And then I'll be naked.
- 2:39SPEAKER_01: So I'm not sure.
- 2:40SPEAKER_01: My hair's pretty long, but it's like, you know, it adds so much fullness and there's no damage.
- 2:44SPEAKER_01: There's no maintenance.
- 2:45SPEAKER_01: There's no, it's easy.
- 2:47SPEAKER_01: I put it in for special occasions like this.
- 2:49Keri Croft: That's amazing.
- 2:51Keri Croft: And Mia, by the way, do you like my loyalty to you?
- 2:54Keri Croft: I'm basically bitch slapping anyone that comes to somebody else the other day said something.
- 2:58Keri Croft: I go, no, I'm like, I'm I'm married to my hair gal.
- 3:02Keri Croft: Oh my gosh.
- 3:05unknown: Wait, I need to.
- 3:06unknown: Wait, hold on.
- 3:09SPEAKER_01: Show the creating hair happiness.
- 3:11SPEAKER_01: Don't show the halo because we we're changing brands.
- 3:13SPEAKER_01: Where's the hang up?
- 3:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you don't even have to hold the hanger up.
- 3:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you can show the yeah.
- 3:16SPEAKER_01: Here, can you hold that real quick?
- 3:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, take that with the hanger.
- 3:19SPEAKER_01: And then we're putting the toupee on top of your head too.
- 3:20SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 3:21SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 3:21SPEAKER_01: This will look cute though.
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: It's just not exactly your color.
- 3:24Keri Croft: And so this is cute.
- 3:28Keri Croft: So this is what you do is you put it like over.
- 3:31SPEAKER_01: So I got into these during right during COVID.
- 3:35SPEAKER_01: They're adjust they're uh adjustable.
- 3:36SPEAKER_01: So you don't leave without knowing how to put it in.
- 3:38SPEAKER_01: It's color matched, it's custom.
- 3:40SPEAKER_01: I have like this a wedding, a baby shower, you pop it in, you get home, you rip it out.
- 3:45SPEAKER_01: It's like taking off your bra at the end of the night.
- 3:46SPEAKER_01: But how do you get over the hump of wearing fake hair?
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: I have girls that wear every single day.
- 3:50Keri Croft: I know, but like it's like a lot, you don't it's real hair.
- 3:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, whose hair?
- 3:55Keri Croft: This is another thing.
- 3:56Keri Croft: It's like whose hair is this?
- 4:00SPEAKER_01: I know it's actually a lot of India and Asian women that shave their head and donate for their churches.
- 4:06Keri Croft: Okay, that sounds great, but like what if they're real, like what if one of them's a serial, you know, like what if there's a serial killer and then all of a sudden I think it's their karma.
- 4:14Keri Croft: We can say jet.
- 4:15Keri Croft: Okay, I like the I like how you overcome objections.
- 4:18Keri Croft: What a salesperson.
- 4:18Keri Croft: What do you think, Sylvia?
- 4:20Keri Croft: Could you take me seriously with it?
- 4:21Keri Croft: We don't all have hair like her.
- 4:22Keri Croft: No, I know.
- 4:23SPEAKER_01: But like I look at you right now, so I could tie her to the length of your hair, maybe an inch or two longer, where if you wear it one day and not the next, it's not gonna be some drastic, oh my gosh, she has extensions in.
- 4:34SPEAKER_01: It gives that Hollywood glam, camaradie, fullness.
- 4:38unknown: Okay.
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: You can wear it straight, you can curl it.
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we'll come back to that.
- 4:42Keri Croft: We will come back to that.
- 4:43Keri Croft: Okay, this is a choose your own adventure for you.
- 4:45Keri Croft: Do you want to start in deep water or do you want to start shallow and flow?
- 4:49Keri Croft: Okay, let's go just right into it because of the way that I knew about this through one Anthony from you know a couple years ago.
- 4:58Keri Croft: So you literally talk about like a stroke of wild things happening in one person's life.
- 5:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:04Keri Croft: So you have a robbery, a house fire, and your dad passes away.
- 5:08Keri Croft: Yeah.
- 5:08Keri Croft: Can you talk through like the timeframe of that?
- 5:10Keri Croft: And let's just start with the robbery.
- 5:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:13SPEAKER_01: So the the robbery and the house fire are one thing.
- 5:16SPEAKER_01: It was actually arson.
- 5:17SPEAKER_01: So the maintenance guy of the apartment robbed and tried to cover up his tracks and started a fire.
- 5:23SPEAKER_01: So I got home, it was May 15th, 2024, and my dad was just unexpectedly starting to get sick.
- 5:30SPEAKER_01: I actually didn't tell him about the house fire for like four days because he couldn't do anything.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: He was in the hospital.
- 5:35SPEAKER_01: And um, it was a cold case for a year.
- 5:38SPEAKER_01: And, you know, I came to peace with it.
- 5:40SPEAKER_01: I lost a lot of money, and I really was focusing on taking care of my dad.
- 5:44SPEAKER_01: So for a month, I was in the hospital.
- 5:46SPEAKER_01: I was homeless, I had no belongings, and my friends gave me their workout clothes, and I wore yoga pants to the hospital every day.
- 5:53SPEAKER_01: I had a book bag, and I think I kind of couch hopped.
- 5:57SPEAKER_01: And I have a son, so you know, his dad took care of him.
- 6:00SPEAKER_01: And so it my dad passed a month later.
- 6:03SPEAKER_01: So, fast forward a year ago, I get a call from the detective like, what would I told you if we had a confession?
- 6:09SPEAKER_01: And the maintenance guy confessed he had some other activity at Evans Farm.
- 6:14SPEAKER_01: He stole another residence credit card.
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: So he ends up confessing, and I got some money back.
- 6:20SPEAKER_01: He had money in his safe still.
- 6:21SPEAKER_01: So I got a money back, and then they wanted him to take a plea deal and he didn't.
- 6:26SPEAKER_01: And so two weeks ago, we were just in trial all week.
- 6:29SPEAKER_01: And unfortunately, with withheld evidence, the jurors found him not guilty, even playing a confession tape.
- 6:35SPEAKER_01: So it has been a wild ride.
- 6:37SPEAKER_01: I think I put that in the past, and now it's been resurfaced.
- 6:42SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, then I was a total, complete shock how that verdict came.
- 6:46SPEAKER_01: And so it's just like, okay, you know, I'm gonna give myself the weekend to like digest, process, and cry, and I'm gonna move on because, you know, I can't let this keep haunting me and bringing the past into the future.
- 6:59SPEAKER_01: And what I learned from the whole thing is it's all shit.
- 7:02SPEAKER_01: It was all it all burned.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: I lost everything.
- 7:05SPEAKER_01: And at the end of the day, you know, it's really just the people in your life and the people that supported me and mostly my clients.
- 7:13SPEAKER_01: I lived with one of my clients in our basement for seven weeks with my son.
- 7:18SPEAKER_01: It it was nuts.
- 7:19SPEAKER_01: It was a lot at once.
- 7:21Keri Croft: Well, you know, yeah.
- 7:22Keri Croft: And then you're thinking, like, the lesson, what you just said, like, okay, it's all shit.
- 7:26Keri Croft: None of it matters except for the people in your life.
- 7:29Keri Croft: And then the person in your life dies.
- 7:31Keri Croft: Yeah.
- 7:32Keri Croft: And you're like, well, wait a minute, fuck you.
- 7:34Keri Croft: Like that would be some anger, like fuel for anger.
- 7:37Keri Croft: Yeah.
- 7:37Keri Croft: For a moment.
- 7:38Keri Croft: It was hard to digest.
- 7:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I kind of went off the rails a little bit.
- 7:42SPEAKER_01: I'm not gonna lie.
- 7:43SPEAKER_01: I experienced some mania.
- 7:45SPEAKER_01: So you mentioned that.
- 7:47SPEAKER_01: Do you have a history of any sort of mental struggled with postpartum um anxiety and depression in 2011?
- 7:55SPEAKER_01: No, 2017, I'm sorry, when Leo was a couple months old and had some mental health with that.
- 8:01SPEAKER_01: And I had never experienced anxiety or depression in my life.
- 8:04SPEAKER_01: And I'm like 30 and I'm like, what is this?
- 8:07SPEAKER_01: And so I got help then, and not until then two years ago, I experienced a similar situation.
- 8:14SPEAKER_01: Started with mania, ended in depression.
- 8:17Keri Croft: But you, I mean, you said you went to the psych ward.
- 8:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:19Keri Croft: So are you watching the Clancy case?
- 8:21SPEAKER_01: You know, it's it's been a little triggering for me.
- 8:24SPEAKER_01: I struggled a lot with uh like suicidal thoughts.
- 8:28SPEAKER_01: I never was to the point I would have done it, but I had a lot of bad negative anxiety and depression.
- 8:34SPEAKER_01: And I'm just like, I'm I'm watching it, but I'm also like trying to kind of detach because it it is really sad.
- 8:40SPEAKER_01: And it's real.
- 8:41SPEAKER_01: And yeah, and it's real.
- 8:43SPEAKER_01: And psychosis is real.
- 8:44SPEAKER_01: I was Googling postpartum psychosis.
- 8:46SPEAKER_01: I stood out the window for three, I didn't sleep for three days.
- 8:49SPEAKER_01: And when you don't sleep, it's just a vicious cycle.
- 8:52SPEAKER_01: And you have this newborn baby, and you're just like, How did you end up in a mental institution?
- 8:57SPEAKER_01: Um really just kind of like we we Did you raise your hand and you were like, Uncle?
- 9:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 9:04SPEAKER_01: That was more for the mania than the postpartum, actually.
- 9:07Keri Croft: What was the mania like?
- 9:07SPEAKER_01: Can you describe the mania was really good until it wasn't?
- 9:11SPEAKER_01: In mania, like you have a lot of great ideas.
- 9:14SPEAKER_01: You're I I have entrepreneurial like just drive in me, and I always get held back because of fear of anxiety.
- 9:21SPEAKER_01: Oh, what if I make this business and nobody wants to, you know, and when you're manic, every idea is a great idea, and money is no object, you know.
- 9:31SPEAKER_01: So it's fun and until you hurt other people, and you know, I unfortunately got divorced over it.
- 9:39SPEAKER_01: So yeah.
- 9:39SPEAKER_01: So that's how I ended up in the psych ward was actually mania because he was, you know, I don't want to get too much into that because it's we talk about exercise.
- 9:47Keri Croft: He's Leah's dad, and of course we can get into the weeds, yeah.
- 9:50Keri Croft: That's a whole other podcast.
- 9:51Keri Croft: No, for sure.
- 9:52Keri Croft: I but about the mania though, you only went have had mania twice, twice in my life, yeah.
- 9:57SPEAKER_01: And and it was uh like I don't like to say like I was manic, and you know, my friend was more gentle with me to say you're experiencing mania, and it's a little bit softer because when people say you are manic, that's very like attacking, and then you get defensive.
- 10:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:13SPEAKER_01: And so it was like, I'm not manic.
- 10:15SPEAKER_01: Like, I just I I bought a car, like I I wanna try to like, I don't, I wanted to go with all these ideas I've always been dreaming of, and nothing was holding me back.
- 10:24SPEAKER_01: Which opening a salon was a big one, starting a t-shirt business, just you know, spending a lot of money at once and and not really caring about the consequences.
- 10:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and that doesn't go well with marriage.
- 10:35Keri Croft: Not so much.
- 10:36Keri Croft: For sure.
- 10:36Keri Croft: But then how do you balance that though with being like, you know, a lot of people could probably relate to that who are entrepreneurs where you're like, well, wait, like, am I like right?
- 10:44Keri Croft: You're staying up late, you have all these ideas, erasing thoughts.
- 10:47Keri Croft: It's like, how do you Well, you have to take risks.
- 10:50Keri Croft: You have to believe in yourself, you have to have big ideas.
- 10:52Keri Croft: But it's a very fine line.
- 10:54Keri Croft: You know, but you you know, you're not if you don't have the money or you're not, you're taking calculated risks over time and you're taking methodical steps.
- 11:00Keri Croft: You're not just like all of a sudden one day swinging for the fence going, I'm gonna take out a$250,000 loan and I'm gonna start this, you know, from zero, whatever.
- 11:08SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 11:09SPEAKER_01: So, yeah, I mean, I've always been a busybody and a mover and shaker.
- 11:13SPEAKER_01: And it's like it wasn't out of the norm for me to be starting businesses and doing things and networking.
- 11:19SPEAKER_01: And so, I mean, even my husband didn't realize I was manic.
- 11:23SPEAKER_01: So it wasn't until like things kind of unraveled that it was just like, oh, like, wait, you're like manic right now.
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: So how old's Leo?
- 11:32SPEAKER_01: He is gonna be nine.
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 11:34SPEAKER_01: So starting third grade.
- 11:35Keri Croft: That's amazing.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: So he's my buddy because we have been through a lot.
- 11:39SPEAKER_01: He, you know, getting divorced, his house burning.
- 11:42SPEAKER_01: We moved probably four times in two years.
- 11:45SPEAKER_01: So it was a lot.
- 11:46SPEAKER_01: He's my buddy.
- 11:46SPEAKER_01: How's co-parenting?
- 11:48SPEAKER_01: We get a lot more.
- 11:48SPEAKER_01: Which is super good.
- 11:49SPEAKER_01: So it's good.
- 11:49SPEAKER_01: That's great.
- 11:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and that's the best.
- 11:51SPEAKER_01: I grew up with divorced parents.
- 11:53SPEAKER_01: We went to Thanksgiving and Christmas together when we're adults, and that's what I want for Leah.
- 11:57Keri Croft: Yes, yeah, I didn't have that.
- 11:59Keri Croft: I had the divorced parents that like were the complete antithesis of that.
- 12:02Keri Croft: So I, you know, I do feel like when you can co-parent together, I think it's really great for your for everyone.
- 12:08Keri Croft: Yeah.
- 12:09Keri Croft: You know?
- 12:09Keri Croft: Yeah, it's a wonderful.
- 12:10Keri Croft: That's another podcast, too.
- 12:11Keri Croft: Because I have a lot of opinions on that.
- 12:14Keri Croft: So you are you do hair, you're a hair magician, queen, and you're like really niching into this to pay situation.
- 12:21Keri Croft: Yeah.
- 12:22Keri Croft: Yeah.
- 12:22Keri Croft: You know, and you were talking about like how there's like a stigma for there's not a stigma for women, but there's a stigma for men.
- 12:27Keri Croft: Yeah, but about time.
- 12:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:29Keri Croft: I mean, you're gonna wear makeup extensions, I know, but and I'm gonna get shit for this because I it sounds like I'm anti-man.
- 12:36Keri Croft: I love my men, but I'm also saying at least there's something you're getting stigma for.
- 12:39Keri Croft: Yeah.
- 12:39Keri Croft: I'm just being an asshole.
- 12:41Keri Croft: But yeah, I agree.
- 12:42Keri Croft: Like hair loss is huge.
- 12:43Keri Croft: Like I was following this guy on TikTok.
- 12:45Keri Croft: I can't, I Andrew something.
- 12:47Keri Croft: He's a big TikToker, and he went like overseas to get his and like his hair, like the lengths that he went to to get this hair.
- 12:54Keri Croft: I mean, it's a big fucking deal.
- 12:55Keri Croft: I can't imagine being a man losing my hair and like not.
- 12:59SPEAKER_01: Transplants have really kind of been taking over since Turkey.
- 13:03SPEAKER_01: You know, you can go to Turkey, you can fly there, you can you can get it done in a day, and it's it's a quarter of the price than than the states.
- 13:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:11SPEAKER_01: And so those have become popular, but those are not for everyone.
- 13:15SPEAKER_01: And they really are for catching it early, maybe filling in your hairline, yeah, maybe getting a little bit of density, but they're not going to do what these guys are hoping it's gonna do.
- 13:25SPEAKER_01: I've probably shaved off about four guys' transplants to put a toupee on.
- 13:29SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 13:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:30SPEAKER_01: Then how does a toupee stay?
- 13:32SPEAKER_01: So there's two different systems there.
- 13:33SPEAKER_01: I got trained by the toupee queen.
- 13:35SPEAKER_01: She became popular with the polyuris poly skin with glue that can last guys anywhere from two to four weeks on their head, no maintenance except for maybe a little corner touch up.
- 13:45SPEAKER_01: The hairlines have come a long way.
- 13:48SPEAKER_01: The systems itself, we're all gonna think when you hear the word toupee of Uncle Lewis in Christmas vacation, you know?
- 13:54SPEAKER_01: And so that's why there is a stigma of even the word toupee.
- 13:57SPEAKER_01: I mentioned there's a heated debate right now between all of these stylists who's doing this in the industry.
- 14:02SPEAKER_01: And it's like, let's start calling it a hair system.
- 14:05SPEAKER_01: Toupe has this bad connotation.
- 14:07SPEAKER_01: They don't want to be associated with it and they want to try to call it a hair system, but it is what it is.

- 15:47Keri Croft: I'm gonna poll.
- 15:48Keri Croft: If so.
- 15:52Keri Croft: If someone has a toupee, do they need to disclose that?
- 15:55Keri Croft: Yes, I think so.
- 15:56Keri Croft: Is that like dating?
- 15:57Keri Croft: Yes.
- 15:58Keri Croft: Like on front, like on your dating app.
- 16:00Keri Croft: It doesn't have to be your first date.
- 16:01SPEAKER_01: Do you have to put like an asterisk?
- 16:03SPEAKER_01: I wear a tube.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: No.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: I wear a hair system.
- 16:06SPEAKER_01: I will tell you, I had two, I had a guy tell me he dated a girl for two years and he hid it from her.
- 16:11SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 16:11SPEAKER_01: And he was dressed out.
- 16:13SPEAKER_01: And when they broke up, he went on his first date with a girl and he said, I want to tell you something.
- 16:17SPEAKER_01: I have I have a hair piece on.
- 16:18SPEAKER_01: And she said, Cool.
- 16:19SPEAKER_01: She helps him glue it.
- 16:20SPEAKER_01: She does everything now.
- 16:21SPEAKER_01: And to be open, it's like, it is what it is, you know.
- 16:25SPEAKER_01: Can you imagine having to hide that?
- 16:28SPEAKER_01: I will tell you how many of my friends, though, sweep past bald guys on hinge.
- 16:31Keri Croft: See, here's the thing about men too, though.
- 16:33Keri Croft: Like a lot of them look good bald.
- 16:35Keri Croft: Yes.
- 16:35Keri Croft: Like, so I feel like men, like, okay, let's look at Joe Rogan.
- 16:38Keri Croft: He can like show up, possibly brush his teeth, and just sit in a chair like a little animal and it's all good.
- 16:45Keri Croft: Yeah.
- 16:45Keri Croft: Like, we can't do that.
- 16:46Keri Croft: Like, men can get away with being bald.
- 16:48Keri Croft: And I, in fact, I think there's a lot of handsome ruggedness that comes with.
- 16:52Keri Croft: Now, there's different types of bald.
- 16:53Keri Croft: Yeah.
- 16:54Keri Croft: So let me tell you one thing.
- 16:55Keri Croft: Bald, yes.
- 16:56Keri Croft: Balding, no.
- 16:59Keri Croft: When you're hanging on, when you're trying to hang on, though, like, you know, some of the So okay.
- 17:03Keri Croft: So give me this, give me the face.
- 17:04SPEAKER_01: Memorial Tournament Week.
- 17:05SPEAKER_01: Hot as hell.
- 17:06SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 17:07SPEAKER_01: We go to Tucci's for dinner and I look over, and I everyone's dressed in golf gear.
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: You know, we're after the course, we hit dinner.
- 17:14SPEAKER_01: And I look over and I'm like, oh, this poor guy.
- 17:17SPEAKER_01: He has about a hundred strands sweaty, combed over, but he was being respectful and he took off his hat and he's on a date for dinner.
- 17:23SPEAKER_01: And I'm just like, how, like, how could I approach him?
- 17:27SPEAKER_01: I that's another thing.
- 17:28SPEAKER_01: But the waitress came up to me and she said, Are you here by Lindsay Cole?
- 17:33SPEAKER_01: I follow you on Instagram.
- 17:34SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, what?
- 17:35SPEAKER_01: Like, no one's ever done that.
- 17:37SPEAKER_01: So I was like, she goes, I bet you want to put a toupee on that guy over there, don't you?
- 17:41SPEAKER_01: No, she did not.
- 17:42SPEAKER_01: Yes, she did.
- 17:43SPEAKER_01: And I was like, oh my God.
- 17:44SPEAKER_01: I was like, how yes, yes, this is what we've been talking about since we sat down.
- 17:48SPEAKER_01: And it's like, you know, I just the you need to own it and shave it.
- 17:52SPEAKER_01: It be bald.
- 17:53SPEAKER_01: But the 20 strands combed over, sweaty after it's like it was not a good look.
- 17:58SPEAKER_01: And it was an eyesore for his date.
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: But it's like, okay, I need your help, Carrie.
- 18:02SPEAKER_01: Can I go up to these guys without getting slapped in the face and just maybe have like a cool QR code, like miss your hair and drop it, you know?
- 18:11Keri Croft: What if they're interested?
- 18:12Keri Croft: I personally think you could do that, but you need to have a like a really fast getaway car.
- 18:16Keri Croft: One hundred or something.
- 18:18Keri Croft: Like, could you imagine?
- 18:19Keri Croft: Like, but imagine how many guys don't even know this is an option.
- 18:22Keri Croft: Well, so here's what I think, too, is things like this.
- 18:25Keri Croft: Because that's a very I mean, obviously, a man and his hair is second to only a man in his penis.
- 18:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 18:33Keri Croft: Do you know what I mean?
- 18:34Keri Croft: Like a man in his hair.
- 18:35Keri Croft: But you can fix your hair.
- 18:36Keri Croft: You cannot.
- 18:37Keri Croft: Correct.
- 18:38Keri Croft: So I guess creating awareness this way, like, hey, I am your girl if you want a hair system.
- 18:45Keri Croft: Yeah.
- 18:45Keri Croft: I have the knowledge, the info coming in.
- 18:48Keri Croft: And it's gonna look amazing.
- 18:49Keri Croft: Yeah.
- 18:49Keri Croft: And like I think, you know, people, it's like that would be a pretty emotional and kind of like a Right.
- 18:54SPEAKER_01: I would never have to embarrass anybody.
- 18:55Keri Croft: They'd have to ease into the process, right?
- 18:58Keri Croft: I think that would be something that like ultimately the guy, the dinner could get to, but it that would, I mean, can you imagine?
- 19:04Keri Croft: No, I would have never done it in front of her.
- 19:06Keri Croft: Correct.
- 19:06Keri Croft: It's like slide it at him, that would be like giving someone like a Weight Watchers or like a you can't so your approach has to, I think, be more less individualized.
- 19:17Keri Croft: Like, hey, I noticed your hair.
- 19:18SPEAKER_01: Like put a brochure in the gym.
- 19:19Keri Croft: Yes.
- 19:20Keri Croft: In the men's locker rooms.
- 19:21Keri Croft: Do podcasts, make your presence known.
- 19:23Keri Croft: Yeah.
- 19:24Keri Croft: But like, no.
- 19:24Keri Croft: I because it's a sensitive subject.
- 19:27Keri Croft: I've never done it.
- 19:27Keri Croft: I've never done it.
- 19:28SPEAKER_01: But they're undetectable and they're they're awesome.
- 19:31SPEAKER_01: This is a curly guy.
- 19:33SPEAKER_01: So they come a little wavy.
- 19:35SPEAKER_01: Most guys cut it short, and it just helps with styling to have a little bit of wave in it.
- 19:38Keri Croft: I was like, what?
- 19:39Keri Croft: I'm like, who is the George Washington?
- 19:40SPEAKER_01: And that's that's okay.
- 19:42Keri Croft: That's what it is.
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: You cut them.
- 19:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:43SPEAKER_01: This is they're all custom fit.
- 19:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I actually have a new client after this today.
- 19:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:48Keri Croft: Are they like shy about it and like nervous?
- 19:50Keri Croft: Half and half awkward because you're so hot too.
- 19:52Keri Croft: Like, so it's like I'm putting myself in their shoes.
- 19:54Keri Croft: Like they're coming in here.
- 19:55Keri Croft: They don't want to take off their hat for a consult.
- 19:57Keri Croft: They're really sad.
- 19:58Keri Croft: Yeah.
- 19:58Keri Croft: And then here you are, and they're like, well, damn, I couldn't bang her.
- 20:01Keri Croft: Like, I'm she's out of my league.
- 20:03Keri Croft: She's give me a toupee.
- 20:04Keri Croft: Fuck my life.
- 20:05Keri Croft: Like, that's what they're thinking.
- 20:06Keri Croft: It's half and half.
- 20:07SPEAKER_01: Some people have researched this for three or four years.
- 20:11SPEAKER_01: They're watching videos.
- 20:12SPEAKER_01: They're like, okay, when they come to do it, they're going to do it.
- 20:16SPEAKER_01: And then there's guys that are like, I just saw this.
- 20:18SPEAKER_01: Like, tell me about it.
- 20:20SPEAKER_01: Some guys use the hair fiber, the rogaine, the topicals are insane.
- 20:24SPEAKER_01: The finastrodiol, the monoxidl.
- 20:27SPEAKER_01: And it's like they come and they tell me all the things they've been doing for years.
- 20:31SPEAKER_01: And it's like, they want to tell me.
- 20:32SPEAKER_01: They want to vent to me.
- 20:33SPEAKER_01: Get the tube.
- 20:34Keri Croft: Yeah.
- 20:35Keri Croft: I mean, like, oh no, this, I can imagine this being a very difficult time.
- 20:38Keri Croft: They walk out very difficult decision for glow up.
- 20:41Keri Croft: Oh, for sure.
- 20:42Keri Croft: I mean, I can imagine, right?
- 20:44Keri Croft: But it's like, I think it's just getting over that hurdle of like taking it on and off, and then having like, you probably have to have like a mannequin to keep the shape.
- 20:51Keri Croft: Where do you put that on?
- 20:52Keri Croft: You can't.
- 20:52Keri Croft: Well, no, no, no.
- 20:53SPEAKER_01: The guys, the guys either do their own maintenance or they come to me monthly and I do their maintenance.
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: So they are sleeping in these.
- 20:59SPEAKER_01: They are working out in them.
- 21:01SPEAKER_01: No.
- 21:02Keri Croft: Okay.
- 21:02SPEAKER_01: We do have the option for the lace and the tape for the sweatier guys that like maybe like don't want to wear it to bed or they're going for a run and they just want to put a hat on.
- 21:10SPEAKER_01: We have another option, and that's kind of the more old school toupee styles with tape and that's a horse of a different color.
- 21:17Keri Croft: See, I'm picturing a guy trying to like, you know, do his thing in the bedroom, and then he's got like this like mannequin head and the toupee.
- 21:25Keri Croft: You know, I'm just vibes.
- 21:26Keri Croft: But women wear wigs.
- 21:28SPEAKER_01: And you know, but a lot of the guys, I am encouraging them to do their own maintenance so they're they're comfortable with it.
- 21:35SPEAKER_01: If there's a troubleshooting with the glue and they're out, they don't freak out.
- 21:39SPEAKER_01: But then a lot of the gay guys, they want me to do it every month.
- 21:41SPEAKER_01: They want me to style it, they want me to clean it and take care of it.
- 21:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:44SPEAKER_01: A lot of gay clientele.
- 21:46SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 21:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:47Keri Croft: So you're seeing a I mean, there's a lot of toupees rolling around.
- 21:50Keri Croft: And you would make it.
- 21:51SPEAKER_01: In the West, I'm I'm really one of three people offering this service.
- 21:55Keri Croft: Yeah.
- 21:56Keri Croft: So if you lined up 10 guys, would I be able to point out the one that has a toupee?
- 21:59Keri Croft: Yeah.
- 22:00Keri Croft: I don't think so.
- 22:00Keri Croft: How much does this cost?
- 22:02SPEAKER_01: So the initial fee up front is$9.50.
- 22:06SPEAKER_01: You get a custom piece cut in.
- 22:08SPEAKER_01: The hair itself is going to last anywhere from three to five months, depending on your lifestyle.
- 22:13SPEAKER_01: Are you active?
- 22:14SPEAKER_01: Are you taking care of it?
- 22:15SPEAKER_01: Are you brushing it?
- 22:16SPEAKER_01: I would say the average they last about four months.
- 22:18SPEAKER_01: And then they're going to come to me every four months for a new piece.
- 22:21SPEAKER_01: We can change the style up, whatever they want to do, if they want to change the color.
- 22:25SPEAKER_01: A lot of my salt and pepper guys were experimenting with adding 10% gray each appointment or whatnot.
- 22:30SPEAKER_01: The uh buyback, I guess you'll say, is$650.
- 22:33SPEAKER_01: And then the monthly appointments around$150 if they want to come in for a haircut and a re-glue.
- 22:37SPEAKER_01: So if guys, I have guys traveling from different states.
- 22:40SPEAKER_01: A lot of guys drive two hours.
- 22:41SPEAKER_01: They're gonna be learning their own maintenance and just taking on the beast themselves.
- 22:46Keri Croft: Oh my God, it's crazy.
- 22:47Keri Croft: Yeah.
- 22:48Keri Croft: So$950,$150.
- 22:50Keri Croft: But the amount of money guys are spending on meds and side effects.
- 22:54Keri Croft: I was thinking for you.
- 22:55Keri Croft: I wasn't thinking for them.
- 22:56Keri Croft: I don't give a shit how much they have to do.
- 22:58Keri Croft: I'm looking for an assistant.
- 22:59Keri Croft: They would pay four times that.
- 23:00Keri Croft: I'm thinking about it.
- 23:03Keri Croft: They're so desperate to look and feel themselves again.
- 23:05Keri Croft: That's not the concern.
- 23:06Keri Croft: I was just like in my head, I always like to calculate, like, okay, what you got going on here?
- 23:10SPEAKER_01: I would love to uh get rid of some of my women clients and focus on this because I love it.
- 23:15SPEAKER_01: I love the way I make them feel, they the way they feel.
- 23:18SPEAKER_01: And it's been really fun.
- 23:19SPEAKER_01: After 21 years of doing great coverage and highlights, you get a little bored.
- 23:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:23SPEAKER_01: You're like, okay, right, I'm ready for something new.
- 23:26SPEAKER_01: And this has been so fun.
- 23:27Keri Croft: I love that.
- 23:28SPEAKER_01: Where's your spot?
- 23:29SPEAKER_01: Well, I'm in the works to expand, possibly Lewis Center.
- 23:32SPEAKER_01: I'm on Polaris right now.
- 23:34SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 23:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:34SPEAKER_01: Oh, nice.
- 23:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:35Keri Croft: So that's in the works right now.
- 23:37Keri Croft: Okay, that's exciting for you.
- 23:39Keri Croft: So if there's an assistant out there who would like to help Lindsay with this love, this hair system empire that she's got going on.
- 23:46SPEAKER_01: Did you say you did T.
- 23:47SPEAKER_01: See, I love that you're calling it hair system.
- 23:48SPEAKER_01: You're more drawn to that word.
- 23:50Keri Croft: Well, because that's what you're trying to do.
- 23:52SPEAKER_01: I'm indifferent.
- 23:53SPEAKER_01: I'm 50-50.
- 23:54SPEAKER_01: It's it is what it is.
- 23:55SPEAKER_01: I don't want to lie and say it's a hair system when it's a toupee.
- 23:59SPEAKER_01: Well, that's not a lie.
- 24:00SPEAKER_01: It's just a different word.
- 24:00SPEAKER_01: It's just a yeah.
- 24:01SPEAKER_01: It's just a different wrap.
- 24:02SPEAKER_01: We're gonna try to modernize the word.
- 24:03Keri Croft: I mean, this is a hair system and it's a toupee.
- 24:05Keri Croft: Yeah, exactly.
- 24:06Keri Croft: Call it what you want.
- 24:07Keri Croft: And it looks like George Washington right now.
- 24:09SPEAKER_01: But again, if it's on a head once when it's cut and style it, it is so custom.
- 24:14SPEAKER_01: You the hairline is undetectable.
- 24:16SPEAKER_01: Is this real hair?
- 24:17Keri Croft: Yeah.
- 24:17Keri Croft: Is this a guy's hair?
- 24:18SPEAKER_01: I don't exactly every company is a little different, so I can't exactly say who the donor is.
- 24:24Keri Croft: Did you okay?
- 24:25Keri Croft: What were the what was the t-shirt business that you did?
- 24:27SPEAKER_01: This was just like a little side hustle.
- 24:29SPEAKER_01: My dad had a labeling company.
- 24:31SPEAKER_01: They printed t-shirts.
- 24:32SPEAKER_01: I started a little Columbus threads, just had a patch of Ohio.
- 24:36SPEAKER_01: And I see.
- 24:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:37SPEAKER_01: I see.
- 24:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:38SPEAKER_01: So it was I've always just had a drive to like have my own business, be my own boss.
- 24:44SPEAKER_01: And I love working for myself.
- 24:46SPEAKER_01: I left my salon on Friday an hour late.
- 24:49SPEAKER_01: I walked in on Monday, hair everywhere, drawers open.
- 24:52SPEAKER_01: It was a hot mess, but I can do that.
- 24:54SPEAKER_01: I'm in charge.
- 24:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:55SPEAKER_01: So no, I agree with that.
- 24:57Keri Croft: What else?
- 24:58Keri Croft: Anything else about the hair system that you would No?
- 25:00SPEAKER_01: I think I was just like looking for your help of like, how do I make this more accessible?
- 25:07SPEAKER_01: Not even that, but like, how do we normalize it?
- 25:10SPEAKER_01: I think the Toupe Queen has done a great job on TikTok and her clients are willing and open to sit and be filmed.
- 25:17SPEAKER_01: My guys are half and half.
- 25:19SPEAKER_01: A lot of guys don't want to be on camera, and I totally respect that.
- 25:22SPEAKER_01: And when they leave, they feel bad because they're like, I've been watching all these guys.
- 25:26SPEAKER_01: I know this helps you when you put my picture.
- 25:29SPEAKER_01: No worries, I'll put an emoji over your face.
- 25:31SPEAKER_01: Like, you know, but I think just looking to like, yeah, how do we normalize this and kind of like cut the stigma about guys doing something for themselves?
- 25:38SPEAKER_01: Why can girls get extensions, but guys can't glue a hair system on?
- 25:42Keri Croft: I think you're doing it though.
- 25:44SPEAKER_01: I'm trying.
- 25:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:45SPEAKER_01: You are.
- 25:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:46Keri Croft: Because I mean, you're out there talking about it.
- 25:49Keri Croft: You are normalizing it.
- 25:50Keri Croft: And I and not every guy is gonna want to be filmed, but you don't need every guy to be filmed.
- 25:54Keri Croft: You only need a small percentage.
- 25:55Keri Croft: Right.
- 25:56Keri Croft: You know, and there's nothing wrong with whether you want to be filmed or not.
- 25:59Keri Croft: Yeah.
- 25:59Keri Croft: I wouldn't want to be filmed.
- 26:00Keri Croft: You know, I don't want to be filmed on any of that stuff.
- 26:02Keri Croft: But like if you're offering something, if you're offering a discount for it, yeah, then somebody might be like, Well, shit, yeah, I'll do that.
- 26:07Keri Croft: Right.
- 26:08SPEAKER_01: I mean, I think what would be great is if you could find a couple guys that are like really lean into it and be like, I actually am working with this guy named Greg who has a podcast in Cleveland, and he's been talking to about it with his followers, and he he's gonna host me on the show in two weeks.
- 26:20Keri Croft: That right there is the ticket.
- 26:21SPEAKER_01: He's like, I'm not hiding this, I'm not gonna show up tomorrow with a new hairline, and you guys are like, What the heck did you do?
- 26:27SPEAKER_01: No, that's the So he's been really great, and we're gonna film the whole thing.
- 26:31SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna give him a lace piece and a tape poly piece, the glue versus the tape, and we'll let him honest reviews to these guys.
- 26:39SPEAKER_01: If you're active, if you're lifting and sweating, if you're a firefighter, this is what I would choose.
- 26:44SPEAKER_01: Pros and cons to both pieces.
- 26:46SPEAKER_01: So he has been great, and I think we're gonna have some good feedback with him just being so forth with it and he's owning it.
- 26:54SPEAKER_01: That's what you need.
- 26:54Keri Croft: Yeah, you know, somebody like that, the juice is really worth a squeeze with him.
- 26:59Keri Croft: Yeah.
