- Lucas: Hey Luna, welcome back to Learn German with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Lucas, last time we talked about 'morgen' and 'gestern'. That was fun. Lucas: Absolutely. Today, we're going to cross a bridge. Literally. Luna: A bridge? Like, die Brücke? Lucas: Exactly. Let's start with that. Repeat after me: die Brücke. Luna: die Brücke. Lucas: Perfect. 'Die Brücke' means 'the bridge'. Now, if you want to say 'across the bridge', you say 'über die Brücke'. Luna: über die Brücke. Lucas: Good. 'Über' is like 'over' or 'across'. So 'über die Brücke' is 'across the bridge'. Let's try a full sentence: Ich gehe über die Brücke. Luna: Ich gehe über die Brücke. That means 'I go across the bridge', right? Lucas: Exactly. Now, let's practice asking where the bridge is. Wo ist die Brücke? Luna: Wo ist die Brücke? Where is the bridge? Lucas: Perfect. So we have 'die Brücke', 'über die Brücke', 'Ich gehe über die Brücke', and 'Wo ist die Brücke?'. Let's do a quick review. Luna: Sure. die Brücke, über die Brücke, Ich gehe über die Brücke, Wo ist die Brücke? Lucas: Fantastic. Now, let's imagine you're in a city and you need to cross a river. You ask: Entschuldigung, wo ist die Brücke? Luna: Entschuldigung, wo ist die Brücke? Excuse me, where is the bridge? Lucas: And someone replies: Gehen Sie geradeaus, dann über die Brücke. That's 'Go straight, then across the bridge.' Luna: Gehen Sie geradeaus, dann über die Brücke. I like how 'über die Brücke' fits in. Lucas: It does. Let's practice that response a couple more times. Repeat after me: über die Brücke. Luna: über die Brücke. Lucas: Now, 'Ich gehe über die Brücke.' Luna: Ich gehe über die Brücke. Lucas: Good. And 'Wo ist die Brücke?' Luna: Wo ist die Brücke? Lucas: Now, let's do a tiny dialogue. Luna, you ask me where the bridge is. Luna: Wo ist die Brücke? Lucas: Gehen Sie über die Brücke, dann links. Luna: So that's 'Go across the bridge, then left.' Lucas: Exactly. You're getting the hang of it. Luna: This is useful. I can imagine walking across a bridge in Berlin or something. Lucas: For sure. And if you've been with us for a while, you'll remember we learned 'links' and 'rechts' a few episodes ago. So 'über die Brücke, dann links' is perfect. Luna: Yeah, that's a nice connection. By the way, Lucas, I've been listening to a lot of podcasts lately, and it's amazing how much this show helps me. Lucas: I'm glad to hear that. And you know, if Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with German, a couple of dollars a month is genuinely what keeps these going. You can support us at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: Yeah, it really makes a difference. Even a small contribution helps us keep making episodes. Lucas: And we're not going anywhere. Now, let's get back to our bridge. One more time: über die Brücke. Luna: über die Brücke. Lucas: And 'Ich gehe über die Brücke.' Luna: Ich gehe über die Brücke. Lucas: Perfect. Now, let's try a little challenge. Luna, answer this: Wo ist die Brücke? Luna: Die Brücke ist über den Fluss. That's not exactly what we learned, but I think it works. Lucas: Oh, actually, that's a great extra. 'Der Fluss' is the river. So 'Die Brücke ist über den Fluss' means 'The bridge is over the river.' Nice job, Luna. Luna: Oh, I just made that up. But it's good to know. Lucas: It is. So we have 'die Brücke', 'über die Brücke', 'Ich gehe über die Brücke', and 'Wo ist die Brücke?'. Let's do a final review. Luna: die Brücke, über die Brücke, Ich gehe über die Brücke, Wo ist die Brücke? Lucas: Perfect. See you next time for more German with Fexingo. Luna: Bis bald!
