- 0:03Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised. Welcome to
- 0:10Speaker 1: Patriot's Unfiltered. I said, of course, the answer he gave
- 0:15Speaker 1: is the only answer, but it's how we said it.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Do you think your offensive line truly stinks? They're not
- 0:21Speaker 1: going to say no. I didn't say that, But what
- 0:23Speaker 1: I'm saying is that's the only way he can say.
- 0:25Speaker 1: I think there's other ways. I am a keen observer
- 0:29Speaker 1: of the human condition. I mean, if he had more
- 0:30Speaker 1: stable ownership, I think he would have been fine at Cleveland.
- 0:34Speaker 1: I mean he's an example of make stuff up too.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Do you turn her living room into like three televisions?
- 0:39Speaker 1: Since she does what I tell her? Oh? Yeah that
- 0:42Speaker 1: mac Jones will not be practicing today due to an illness.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Oh what are we doing? What are we doing? I
- 0:48Speaker 1: got a headache. Now, I've been listening for a couple
- 0:51Speaker 1: of years and I haven't saw me So I listened
- 0:54Speaker 1: to them over and over. I wanted to encourage my
- 0:57Speaker 1: fellow listeners to read some of the articles. Do you
- 1:00Speaker 1: read my articles to put yourself to sleep? That's the
- 1:04Speaker 1: way I took that. Basically, it's unfiltered. This is Patriot's unfiltered,
- 1:10Speaker 1: fueled by Duncan. All right, welcome the Patriots unfiltered. It
- 1:16Speaker 1: is Tuesday here at Jilts Stadium, and we got a
- 1:19Speaker 1: lot to talk about. A little better mood around the
- 1:21Speaker 1: building today than last week. It's Deuce, it's tomorrow, it's Paul,
- 1:26Speaker 1: it's me, it's Matt in the booth, and we'll be
- 1:27Speaker 1: here until two o'clock talking Patriots. Oh man. So it
- 1:33Speaker 1: was a relief to get that win. You know, not
- 1:36Speaker 1: the prettiest of wins, but anytime you can go on
- 1:38Speaker 1: the road in the NFL come home with a win,
- 1:41Speaker 1: it's a good day. It's a good it's a good day. Sniff,
- 1:45Speaker 1: Pittsburgh's good. Yeah, Like like winning in Pittsburgh, it's always
- 1:47Speaker 1: a good thing, right sure, So, uh yeah, it was.
- 1:50Speaker 1: It was you didn't want to come home oh and
- 1:52Speaker 1: two and then have to open up your home opener
- 1:56Speaker 1: with the Ravens. Oh you've seen so many teams now
- 1:58Speaker 1: going through that O and two, Like is it facing
- 2:01Speaker 1: that like crisis of conscious right? Oh? Are we out
- 2:04Speaker 1: of it already? So I I you know, I wasn't
- 2:06Speaker 1: here to moderate the postgame show um, so you know,
- 2:10Speaker 1: I my my, My initial thoughts were still the offense
- 2:14Speaker 1: is a long way to go. Um. I think Mac
- 2:19Speaker 1: talking about confidence, I think he's lacking some at times.
- 2:23Speaker 1: I think in the second half there were a few
- 2:26Speaker 1: throws where I said, Okay, he can make a quick
- 2:29Speaker 1: decision and drive that ball downfield. Now, they weren't the
- 2:31Speaker 1: best of throws, but I just like the decisiveness that
- 2:34Speaker 1: I saw. And so you know, it's hope there. Offensive
- 2:38Speaker 1: line game ball. I mean, I mean when you can
- 2:41Speaker 1: close out a game with a six plus minute drive, uh,
- 2:45Speaker 1: you know, on the road, and you know, finish the
- 2:49Speaker 1: game taking a knee, that's that's great. So I think
- 2:51Speaker 1: the offensive line played great. I think, um, you know,
- 2:57Speaker 1: the receivers, you know, you know, a lot of them
- 3:00Speaker 1: had their you know, their opportunities. Wonder what's going on
- 3:04Speaker 1: with Parker now more than born. But you know that said,
- 3:09Speaker 1: I think Myers had a good game. He's he's definitely
- 3:13Speaker 1: turning into his bankie. Tight ends weren't much of a factor,
- 3:16Speaker 1: so we got to do something about that. On defense, though,
- 3:19Speaker 1: I mean, you know another game where I think they
- 3:22Speaker 1: had a good game plan going in. I think guys
- 3:24Speaker 1: did their jobs, and you know, really it was. If
- 3:29Speaker 1: it hadn't been for the offense, it would have been
- 3:31Speaker 1: one of those games where I'm like, all right, I
- 3:32Speaker 1: feel good about this game right right from the start,
- 3:35Speaker 1: Like I'm not worried. You know, we'll get the offense eventually,
- 3:39Speaker 1: and you know, it's not like they're gonna kill us.
- 3:41Speaker 1: I mean, Steel has had you know, a couple drives there,
- 3:44Speaker 1: but it's the NFL teams are going to drive down
- 3:46Speaker 1: the field. But but um, you know, I was happy
- 3:49Speaker 1: with the defense. Trubisky is Trubisky. They don't have a
- 3:52Speaker 1: lot of really explosive weapons like Miami does. So this
- 3:56Speaker 1: come week coming up is going to be another good test.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Oh yeah, even a next level test. I mean, it's
- 4:03Speaker 1: it's unique with Lamar. But I mean, I agree with
- 4:05Speaker 1: a lot of what you said. I'm cautiously optimistic on
- 4:07Speaker 1: the defense. I feel like, you know, rewatching some of them,
- 4:10Speaker 1: and you know, I just I also am torn though,
- 4:13Speaker 1: because one, it's beginning of the season and we've seen
- 4:15Speaker 1: them play great in the beginning of the season before,
- 4:17Speaker 1: and it also hasn't been the most you know, dynamic
- 4:20Speaker 1: kind of offenses that they've had had to face. Now. Granted,
- 4:23Speaker 1: Miami looks a little bit different after what they did
- 4:26Speaker 1: in Week two, a little bit, you know, in terms
- 4:27Speaker 1: of the Patriots being able to you know, not give
- 4:30Speaker 1: up those kind of big plays. But um, you know,
- 4:32Speaker 1: I think the real challenges are coming for the defense.
- 4:34Speaker 1: But I just like how they're playing. I like how
- 4:36Speaker 1: it's gang tackling, they're winning at the front, that the
- 4:38Speaker 1: line of scrimmage Dietrich wise has suddenly hit a new
- 4:41Speaker 1: level here in year six, which is, you know, amazing
- 4:43Speaker 1: to watch. I like that they've taken concrete steps to
- 4:46Speaker 1: put mac Wilson in there, and you know, Kyle Dugger
- 4:50Speaker 1: at linebacker, and you know, they're not really forcing the
- 4:52Speaker 1: issue with Jelani Tavai and Bentley anymore. You know, they're
- 4:55Speaker 1: they're playing them a little bit on the edge too.
- 4:56Speaker 1: So I like what they're doing. I need to see
- 4:59Speaker 1: them against these really good offenses that they have continuing
- 5:02Speaker 1: to come. Um. But just as far as the way
- 5:05Speaker 1: they're playing out of the gate, I'm impressed with the defense. Yeah,
- 5:07Speaker 1: it's not like I said last week, and I'll say
- 5:10Speaker 1: it again going into season, I was more worried about
- 5:12Speaker 1: the offense. Defense. I'm sorry than the offense. And now
- 5:18Speaker 1: I have to flip that at least for now. Now
- 5:20Speaker 1: we'll see, like you said, we got Lamar Jackson next week,
- 5:23Speaker 1: we got Aaron Rodgers the week after. We'll see what
- 5:25Speaker 1: happens when you have quarterbacks who are up last week Sunday.
- 5:32Speaker 1: So we need to talk about that a little later.
- 5:35Speaker 1: But but um, you know, there's still a lot to come.
- 5:39Speaker 1: But I'm I'm not on the ledge. I'm not even
- 5:42Speaker 1: near the ledge, you know, I'm not even near it. Yeah,
- 5:46Speaker 1: I'm concerned about the defense just because I don't know
- 5:50Speaker 1: what's going on with Kyle Dugger right now. Um, and
- 5:53Speaker 1: just a lot of I feel like there are a
- 5:54Speaker 1: lot of guys going out with yeah, various back injury. Yeah,
- 6:00Speaker 1: hopefully it's nothing, and hopefully those guys will be back
- 6:02Speaker 1: out there this weekend. But not having you know, one
- 6:04Speaker 1: or even two of those guys out there Sunday would
- 6:07Speaker 1: not be great. Dugger had a knee, is that what
- 6:09Speaker 1: he was listed with? And then Gotcha had a back
- 6:12Speaker 1: and he came back. Gotcha came back, and I think
- 6:14Speaker 1: I think Duggar was the only one to leave and
- 6:16Speaker 1: not return. And Peppers went in there and made some
- 6:19Speaker 1: plays I know they have about him, So yeah, I've
- 6:23Speaker 1: been intrigued by him all summer. So this might be
- 6:25Speaker 1: an opportunity that the bomb just dropped, we are no
- 6:29Speaker 1: personal danger, might be might be an opportunity for him,
- 6:32Speaker 1: you know Pepper's if Dugger can't go, which which I
- 6:35Speaker 1: kind of like, I'm not. I'm more intrigued than than
- 6:37Speaker 1: worried without Dougger. I think they've got the depth for
- 6:39Speaker 1: a reason there. But when you talk about Lamar Jackson
- 6:42Speaker 1: and how you're going to defend a really you know,
- 6:44Speaker 1: heavy front, I mean, guys, they play a lot with
- 6:46Speaker 1: a full block, they play a lot with multiple tight ends,
- 6:48Speaker 1: So something to consider when you're putting together a game
- 6:51Speaker 1: plan with a personnel and stuff. I also think while
- 6:53Speaker 1: Lamar is a very dynamic and great quarterback, I'm definitely
- 6:56Speaker 1: a team Lamar because he came out of the acc
- 6:58Speaker 1: of course, But um, outside of that, what worries me
- 7:02Speaker 1: about them, or what they should be worried about, I
- 7:04Speaker 1: guess is the way their defense collapsed the second half,
- 7:07Speaker 1: Like sure to a air quote lit it up, but
- 7:10Speaker 1: that was because the Ravens secondaries not great. Yeah, I
- 7:13Speaker 1: guess they were crash. Yeah, they were minus a few
- 7:17Speaker 1: uh players, Peters and Humphrey were out of the line.
- 7:21Speaker 1: M So. But to me, well, and we'll talk about
- 7:24Speaker 1: this later in the week, but this puts the Patriots
- 7:26Speaker 1: in a bad spot. I think, can you take advantage
- 7:29Speaker 1: of it? And if you can, I think that the
- 7:31Speaker 1: Ravens are gonna come in here like looking to reverse
- 7:34Speaker 1: what happened. You know that was embarrassing for them. Yeah,
- 7:38Speaker 1: you know, so they're not gonna want to have that happen.
- 7:40Speaker 1: I mean it's a historical, right, they had a bad quarter, Yeah,
- 7:45Speaker 1: I mean the other seven quarters they've been really good,
- 7:47Speaker 1: and Tua was bad in that game until the fourth quarter. Yeah,
- 7:51Speaker 1: So I don't know if you can rely on that
- 7:53Speaker 1: if you're the Patriots, right like them just completely. Harbaugh's
- 7:57Speaker 1: quotes were like ridiculously refreshing, like that can't have you know,
- 8:03Speaker 1: you didn't cover three and you have a guy behind
- 8:04Speaker 1: you with no one on it. That can't happen, like
- 8:07Speaker 1: we all saw it. But it was refreshing to hear
- 8:09Speaker 1: the coach actually say it, yeah, you know, as opposed
- 8:12Speaker 1: to bake. Yeah, So don't count on that from the
- 8:14Speaker 1: Ravens this week. I mean, I'm really not. I'm expecting
- 8:17Speaker 1: a really good defense. I'm not. I mean, And part
- 8:20Speaker 1: of that is because I don't necessarily think the Patriots
- 8:22Speaker 1: have what it takes to get downfield on them like that.
- 8:24Speaker 1: But you look at the talent that they have in
- 8:27Speaker 1: that secondary. I tend to chalk that performance up to
- 8:31Speaker 1: just an early season. We didn't have it today. We
- 8:33Speaker 1: lost our focus. And maybe it's a bigger you know,
- 8:36Speaker 1: we'll see going down the road. But yeah, and maybe
- 8:38Speaker 1: you know, if it happens continuously on then Miami exposed
- 8:42Speaker 1: something in them. I don't think that that is the case.
- 8:45Speaker 1: I think Um Humphrey had a groin problem that he
- 8:49Speaker 1: entered the week the game with an injury. I think
- 8:53Speaker 1: that occurred Friday at practice. They try to monitor him
- 8:56Speaker 1: a little bit, so when he was out of the game,
- 9:00Speaker 1: like two of the long touchdown passes happened. Now, he
- 9:03Speaker 1: played the majority of the game. He played like eighty
- 9:05Speaker 1: percent of the snaps, but there was a breakdown that
- 9:09Speaker 1: they had in Baltimore that seemingly every time he was
- 9:12Speaker 1: off the field, something really bad happened in the fourth quarter,
- 9:15Speaker 1: and then they also I feel like losing Kyle Fuller
- 9:18Speaker 1: a couple of days before that too. That takes a
- 9:21Speaker 1: huge person out of their depth as well. So it's yeah, tough.
- 9:25Speaker 1: We'll see and again we'll talk a lot more about
- 9:28Speaker 1: the Ravens coming up. But but the defense that you
- 9:30Speaker 1: brought up, Freddie, what I've been most impressed with is
- 9:32Speaker 1: the run defense, because that's been a huge problem through
- 9:35Speaker 1: like going on three or four years, going back to
- 9:37Speaker 1: the Super Bowl year. They had a problem in nineteen
- 9:40Speaker 1: twenty twenty one and the first two games. I know
- 9:44Speaker 1: that's just a small sample size, but I think the
- 9:48Speaker 1: run defense has been really stout and they haven't had
- 9:51Speaker 1: to like put more guys up there. They haven't had
- 9:54Speaker 1: a you know, uh, you know, add a safety to
- 9:57Speaker 1: the box or go with a heavy package in front,
- 10:00Speaker 1: you know. And I think that they've done a really
- 10:03Speaker 1: good job of sort of winning on first down to
- 10:07Speaker 1: use the cliche to set up better because they've needed
- 10:10Speaker 1: that because their third down defense. Strangely enough, with giving
- 10:13Speaker 1: the amount of points they're growing up, their third down
- 10:15Speaker 1: defense has been terrible. Um. I think they're like third,
- 10:19Speaker 1: third or fourth to last in third down defense. So
- 10:23Speaker 1: that doesn't seem to jive Usually when you have trouble
- 10:26Speaker 1: getting off the field. You're giving up points, they're not
- 10:29Speaker 1: um So that means that they're winning a lot on
- 10:32Speaker 1: early downs and eventually getting off the field even though
- 10:35Speaker 1: they're giving up the you know, Bill talked about the
- 10:38Speaker 1: third and ones. You know, they given up a lot
- 10:40Speaker 1: of those, but there was a third and seventeen and
- 10:42Speaker 1: a third and ten they gave up the other day too,
- 10:44Speaker 1: to an offense. Really that shouldn't be converting those. What
- 10:47Speaker 1: I think it is this most surprising about your point, Paul,
- 10:49Speaker 1: is that you're getting just much better play out of
- 10:51Speaker 1: Lawrence Guy and Godchaw. And why why has this been
- 10:54Speaker 1: their best player in two games? I mean, why that
- 10:56Speaker 1: that first play they sheds his block and just makes
- 10:59Speaker 1: the play all of a sudden. It's like he's putting
- 11:01Speaker 1: it all together, like his length, like he just looks
- 11:04Speaker 1: like a dominant player out there. And that's what none
- 11:07Speaker 1: of us expect. That's what we didn't expect, and that's
- 11:10Speaker 1: why I was more concerned about the defense going in.
- 11:12Speaker 1: It's because you're gonna rely on these guys who, let's
- 11:14Speaker 1: face it, have been here for a little bit and
- 11:16Speaker 1: seem like maybe they're probably gonna be trending down. I
- 11:19Speaker 1: don't think anybody expected Dietrich Wise to suddenly play like this,
- 11:22Speaker 1: and he's been really really and I think God has
- 11:24Speaker 1: been really solid too, so you know, I think guy
- 11:26Speaker 1: they had him for three stops. I mean, he's involved
- 11:29Speaker 1: as well. So it's just I think those guys playing
- 11:31Speaker 1: well is taking some pressure off of what they're trying
- 11:33Speaker 1: to experiment with on the second level and giving them
- 11:36Speaker 1: a little bit of leeway if they're gonna go a
- 11:38Speaker 1: little bit lighter with like a mac Wilson. But again,
- 11:42Speaker 1: I don't really think Miami's run game is all that good.
- 11:44Speaker 1: Pittsburgh had a banged up Naji Harris and that's about it.
- 11:47Speaker 1: They didn't really try offensive lines too, so I mean,
- 11:51Speaker 1: and this one isn't really And this is unique too.
- 11:54Speaker 1: I mean this is Lamar Jackson, and you know they're
- 11:56Speaker 1: they're also got a different kind of attack on the
- 11:59Speaker 1: ground too, So we'll see with the conventional and I
- 12:02Speaker 1: don't know, because this is really strange, but I don't
- 12:05Speaker 1: know if you've looked at any of this Baltimore stuff yet.
- 12:07Speaker 1: I know you keep saying, well, we'll get to it,
- 12:08Speaker 1: and I agree, Um, they can't run the ball conventionally. Yeah,
- 12:12Speaker 1: their running backs have done nothing. It's all Lamar Jackson.
- 12:16Speaker 1: So I don't know if it's scrambles, I don't know
- 12:18Speaker 1: if it's designed runs. I don't know if it's a
- 12:21Speaker 1: combination of both. But he is the entirety of the
- 12:23Speaker 1: rushing offense. Yep, yep. You put the spy on Lamar,
- 12:28Speaker 1: spy him. Yeah, I don't have anybody I want spy
- 12:31Speaker 1: in him. I want eleven spies on Lamar. Yeah, like
- 12:35Speaker 1: I don't trust mac Wilson to chase him down in space.
- 12:38Speaker 1: Nobody chases him down space. Nobody, Nobody, nobody. Yeah, all right, um,
- 12:44Speaker 1: let's go back, you know, let's talk a little bit
- 12:46Speaker 1: more of the superlatives from the game. Best dress. Um No.
- 12:51Speaker 1: I think there was a lot of a lot of
- 12:55Speaker 1: chatter after the game, maybe a little bit um, some
- 12:58Speaker 1: of it a little bit too hyped up. But Cole
- 13:01Speaker 1: Strange had a nice game, had a nice game, and
- 13:06Speaker 1: you know, there was some clips out on Twitter of
- 13:08Speaker 1: individual plays where you know, he held guys off, and
- 13:12Speaker 1: you know, I think it can't be just one guy.
- 13:15Speaker 1: I think the whole line had a They were much better. Yeah,
- 13:17Speaker 1: the whole line had a really good game and Cole
- 13:19Speaker 1: Strange had a good game to communication issues, yeah like that,
- 13:22Speaker 1: and everybody said, like they didn't get beat a lot,
- 13:25Speaker 1: and this is what we talked about, Like Mac Jones
- 13:27Speaker 1: wasn't under a tremendous amount of pressure in the first game.
- 13:30Speaker 1: There were just a couple of plays that were complete
- 13:32Speaker 1: breakdowns when no one blocks somebody. Right, they didn't have
- 13:35Speaker 1: any of those in this game, right. Yeah, Trent Brown
- 13:38Speaker 1: got away with a false start early and that would
- 13:42Speaker 1: have been a bad one, a big man false starting.
- 13:45Speaker 1: We'll get to the bad stuff we're doing. The super
- 13:48Speaker 1: Lis could be too, I would say, though I I
- 13:54Speaker 1: I tend to see what I what I was seeing
- 13:56Speaker 1: when I watched the game again. I think Mac is
- 13:59Speaker 1: still missing off and I put him on the bad list,
- 14:02Speaker 1: and I felt a little bit bad about that afterwards,
- 14:04Speaker 1: but now I don't feel sorry today. Hijack it. Yeah,
- 14:07Speaker 1: did best hair go to No. I'll make the point
- 14:12Speaker 1: in digress, but I think he's missing stuff still. I don't.
- 14:16Speaker 1: I don't. I'm on the Paul train of he's not
- 14:18Speaker 1: seen it right. I think there's plays being left on
- 14:20Speaker 1: the field by him, and I think he needs to
- 14:22Speaker 1: be better. Sorry, go back. Okay, my superlative. I'm going
- 14:25Speaker 1: to be positive Paul today. Um. I think that the
- 14:30Speaker 1: two stops at the end of the game by the
- 14:31Speaker 1: defense something that we needed last year to finally see that,
- 14:36Speaker 1: and this game was huge to give the ball back
- 14:38Speaker 1: to the offense. They could brun the clock out, burning
- 14:40Speaker 1: the ball last twelve minutes. I think that was the
- 14:42Speaker 1: highlight of the game for me. Obviously outside of it,
- 14:44Speaker 1: I love that. Obviously, outside of Nelson Aglord dunking right defender,
- 14:49Speaker 1: that was obviously the best play of the whole game
- 14:51Speaker 1: because but that's two stopped by the defense. Incredible. Even
- 14:54Speaker 1: when Pittsburgh needed that ball back and they start playing
- 14:57Speaker 1: renegade and the crowd gets crazy, like I felt, okay, yeah,
- 15:01Speaker 1: I felt okay, I agree with you. It was over
- 15:03Speaker 1: when they went three and out twice. Yeah, you could
- 15:05Speaker 1: just see you could see the whole sideline to Fleet
- 15:07Speaker 1: and it was almost like the defense was like, we
- 15:10Speaker 1: just gave you the ball. We just stopped them twice.
- 15:13Speaker 1: With down three, we stopped them twice and you can't
- 15:16Speaker 1: even move a yard. They gave him the ball on
- 15:19Speaker 1: the fifty yard line, yeah, and made him punt right,
- 15:23Speaker 1: and they still couldn't move the ball. You could almost
- 15:25Speaker 1: see the body language of the defense when Pittsburgh went
- 15:28Speaker 1: onto the field the last drive. I'm not gonna tell
- 15:32Speaker 1: you I foresee like I could foresee, Well, they're just
- 15:35Speaker 1: gonna run it twelve times in a row when the
- 15:37Speaker 1: game's gonna be over. I'm not saying I saw that coming,
- 15:40Speaker 1: but I wasn't. I wasn't stunned that Pittsburgh never got it.
- 15:43Speaker 1: Goes back to that old thing that Parcels used to say,
- 15:45Speaker 1: each side of the ball gives the other hope, and
- 15:48Speaker 1: the Pittsburgh's offense gave the defense giving them no hope. Yeah,
- 15:52Speaker 1: and you could say the Patriots defense was the reason
- 15:56Speaker 1: why they had no hope. It depends on how you
- 15:58Speaker 1: look at it. Yeah, I think to your point, though, Paul,
- 16:01Speaker 1: like they I mean, they gave up a bunch of
- 16:03Speaker 1: third downs in that you know, middle portion like there
- 16:05Speaker 1: was it was a little harry for a while. I
- 16:06Speaker 1: just I liked that they came together at the end.
- 16:08Speaker 1: It wasn't perfect throughout, but I think the Tamara's points
- 16:11Speaker 1: stepping up at the end of what I wrote about yesterday,
- 16:13Speaker 1: it was just, you know, it's a good situational I
- 16:15Speaker 1: just love these The best play it was the last
- 16:17Speaker 1: ten minutes of the game. They had the two three announced,
- 16:20Speaker 1: the Tamara mentioned and then the last six minute drive
- 16:22Speaker 1: that was the best play of the game. So, you know,
- 16:25Speaker 1: in the wide receiver category, to me, Myers and Agalore
- 16:31Speaker 1: have outstanding. They had good games and they've established themselves
- 16:34Speaker 1: with as the top two receivers right now on this team.
- 16:37Speaker 1: I mean, right from the get go, Agalore, every time
- 16:40Speaker 1: he caught the ball, it wasn't just catchy, it was
- 16:42Speaker 1: fighting for more yards. Like he had this like ferocity
- 16:45Speaker 1: about him, like almost like he had a chip on
- 16:47Speaker 1: his shoulder going into the game, Like he was like
- 16:50Speaker 1: looking for contact, you know, taking the ball and immediately
- 16:53Speaker 1: turning up field and you know, um, just I hadn't
- 16:57Speaker 1: seen like that kind of a ferocity to him. And
- 17:00Speaker 1: then of course Meyer's right from the get go, he's
- 17:02Speaker 1: like the drive starter. I don't know how many catches
- 17:05Speaker 1: did he have in the game, seven right here? Actually nine? Yeah,
- 17:10Speaker 1: I mean he's been like the most consistent guy on
- 17:13Speaker 1: the team. Yeahs I pounded the table for him in
- 17:15Speaker 1: the post game of just I mean having out a
- 17:19Speaker 1: lot of guys, you've resigned a second contracts. What more
- 17:21Speaker 1: can you ask of him? He's had four different offenses
- 17:24Speaker 1: kind of to deal with every single one. He's been
- 17:27Speaker 1: productive in big moments. He continues to make contest to
- 17:30Speaker 1: catch after Conde to catch. I think, make a deal
- 17:33Speaker 1: with him, keep him around. But I like your point
- 17:35Speaker 1: of what iglore too. I think he's looked in really
- 17:37Speaker 1: good shape to me all year. He looks a little
- 17:39Speaker 1: bit like, you know, faster, just like I don't know
- 17:41Speaker 1: if it's necessarily the same thing you're saying, but it's
- 17:43Speaker 1: just to me, he just looks quicker overall. And I
- 17:46Speaker 1: think he's he's just more urgency when he's out there,
- 17:48Speaker 1: you know what I mean. Yeah, there seems to be
- 17:50Speaker 1: he seems to be a different player, and maybe that's
- 17:52Speaker 1: how they're using him a little bit, whereas last year
- 17:54Speaker 1: it was kind of like what they're doing with Parker.
- 17:55Speaker 1: They just have him on the outside and he'd pretty
- 17:57Speaker 1: much just run, goes or come back. So UM love
- 18:00Speaker 1: to see him continue to get more involved. I think
- 18:02Speaker 1: that overshadowed maybe the lack of production from the tight
- 18:05Speaker 1: ends and um and and Parker, as you brought up,
- 18:07Speaker 1: which I think is surprising, and I feel like they
- 18:11Speaker 1: want to get him going. I mean we've talked about it.
- 18:13Speaker 1: They play him a ton and they a couple of things,
- 18:16Speaker 1: but there's not a lot of targets for him. Well
- 18:17Speaker 1: that's like the Titans and Parker didn't. It's not like
- 18:20Speaker 1: they had those games where you know, they're just jamming
- 18:23Speaker 1: it to them and you know it's four catches on
- 18:25Speaker 1: twelve targets, right, you know, I mean I think Hunter
- 18:28Speaker 1: Henry had one and Jonah Smith had three and Parker
- 18:31Speaker 1: had two. Two Okay, yeah, right, So it's not like
- 18:34Speaker 1: they spent a lot. They weren't heavily involved in the
- 18:37Speaker 1: passing game, but while a Galore and um Myers were
- 18:41Speaker 1: and they produced. But that could be see, we don't
- 18:44Speaker 1: know park well no, but I mean this could be
- 18:48Speaker 1: where we don't know what's really going on out there
- 18:51Speaker 1: and what Mac isn't seeing and maybe it wasn't it
- 18:54Speaker 1: was less. Oh, Parker isn't part of it as much
- 18:58Speaker 1: as Mac didn't feel comfortable throwing it to him, you know,
- 19:01Speaker 1: like he could have been if Mac made the decision
- 19:04Speaker 1: to go there, and it could be on Mac. I
- 19:07Speaker 1: don't know, and I know, like Mike put it. I
- 19:09Speaker 1: was actually surprised on Sunday when Mike put Mac on
- 19:11Speaker 1: the bad list, not because I thought he was wrong,
- 19:13Speaker 1: just because it was Mike and I was looking at
- 19:15Speaker 1: the bright side of um No. But in all seriously,
- 19:18Speaker 1: I thought it was kind Yes, I thought it was
- 19:21Speaker 1: just kind of another one of those games, like I
- 19:24Speaker 1: didn't necessarily think he did all that much well, but
- 19:27Speaker 1: I didn't think he did all that much bad. One
- 19:29Speaker 1: thing that I do think he missed that was bad.
- 19:32Speaker 1: Um there's been like the narrative of the week. You know,
- 19:35Speaker 1: these games sort of take on its fifty fifty balls.
- 19:38Speaker 1: It's all anybody wants to I mean, and last year
- 19:42Speaker 1: was how come we can't do fifty fifty balls? Okay,
- 19:45Speaker 1: you know it's it's like it's unbelieva. I'm on record,
- 19:47Speaker 1: I support my good friend Mike just so. I do
- 19:50Speaker 1: not like fifty fifty balls, especially with it with their
- 19:53Speaker 1: receiving corps they don't have that can't be or half
- 19:55Speaker 1: those like you got to do every once in a while,
- 19:57Speaker 1: I just want to state something to defend the Patriots
- 20:00Speaker 1: and defend the offensive coaches, Patricia Judge, Belichick, whoever you
- 20:04Speaker 1: want to do. The bomb that was picked off to
- 20:07Speaker 1: Davante Parker was not a fifty fifty ball. It shouldn't
- 20:10Speaker 1: have been. He was open and it was a bad throw. Now,
- 20:14Speaker 1: he got hit right after he threw it. That may
- 20:17Speaker 1: have had something to do with it. But Parker's running
- 20:19Speaker 1: down the seam, he's got a linebacker trailing him, and
- 20:22Speaker 1: the throw went back to the inside, allowing Minka Fitzpatrick
- 20:26Speaker 1: to come over and get it. That's a bad throw.
- 20:28Speaker 1: That's not a fifty fifty ball, right, It wasn't on Parker.
- 20:31Speaker 1: The throw crap made it a fifty fifty ball that
- 20:34Speaker 1: shouldn't have been it. I mean it made it almost
- 20:37Speaker 1: impossible for Parker to get himself back in position because
- 20:40Speaker 1: he had a sort of arch back and leaned back
- 20:42Speaker 1: against the grain. Sometimes it happens. It was a bad throw.
- 20:47Speaker 1: But I just think this whole notion that everything that
- 20:49Speaker 1: they do down the field is a fifty fifty ball,
- 20:52Speaker 1: that's not really been the case. The touchdown to Agilo
- 20:55Speaker 1: was a fifty fifty ball in a bad everything to
- 20:58Speaker 1: me except for Agilo. It was a terrible throw, a
- 21:01Speaker 1: terrible decision, I thought, and Agila build it out with
- 21:04Speaker 1: an incredible individual effort in my opinion, Yeah, I thought
- 21:08Speaker 1: the past should have been picked off in to you
- 21:11Speaker 1: a point the ferocity. Yeah, he refused to allow that
- 21:14Speaker 1: ball to get picked off, right, That's that's that to
- 21:17Speaker 1: me was all give all the props to to Nelly,
- 21:20Speaker 1: as Billy Billy b calls him. I think it's just
- 21:22Speaker 1: kind of too predictable with Parker, and I mean to
- 21:25Speaker 1: to kind of recap his whole story and training camps.
- 21:27Speaker 1: Training camps started off for a couple of days and
- 21:29Speaker 1: they were throwing end zone contest to catch and he
- 21:32Speaker 1: and he made a number of those, and I you know,
- 21:35Speaker 1: his story got upset about it. They kept throwing contested balls,
- 21:38Speaker 1: just getting upset. Then they started to work in the
- 21:40Speaker 1: quick little slant you know, and and and those are
- 21:42Speaker 1: kind of the only two plays that they really you know,
- 21:44Speaker 1: we saw him run extensively to him. So each of
- 21:47Speaker 1: these throws he's tried the Parker and this has been
- 21:50Speaker 1: the same kind of thing, like he's just thrown it
- 21:51Speaker 1: up to him, like you know, I don't know, we
- 21:53Speaker 1: want to say with fifty fifty, but they got to
- 21:55Speaker 1: find a way to get him the ball conventionally because
- 21:58Speaker 1: it just feels like he's a specialty item right now,
- 22:00Speaker 1: that one that they're probably a little bit too enamored with.
- 22:03Speaker 1: And you know, we had our thing about you know,
- 22:05Speaker 1: the interception. Like I just think right now, it's it's
- 22:08Speaker 1: kind of predictable what they want to do with with
- 22:10Speaker 1: Parker in terms of putting it up and and and
- 22:12Speaker 1: and trying to let him come down with it. It's
- 22:15Speaker 1: I heard the calls yesterday people. I think it was
- 22:17Speaker 1: one of Paul shows. I had to work that in. Um,
- 22:19Speaker 1: you know, Vagalore, could you you know, if you're not
- 22:21Speaker 1: really producing much out of Parker and you only have
- 22:24Speaker 1: contested catches with him, would it make more sense than
- 22:26Speaker 1: to you know, maybe bump by Aggalore back out there
- 22:28Speaker 1: a little bit, or just more rotation of moving guys
- 22:31Speaker 1: like you know, the whole offseason, a lot of people
- 22:34Speaker 1: around here wanted to deal Agalore. That's what I wrote
- 22:37Speaker 1: for my my notes, Like, I mean, they wanted new people.
- 22:41Speaker 1: He had he I mean he did. He had a
- 22:43Speaker 1: disappointing year last year. Um. I don't think it was
- 22:46Speaker 1: a disaster. It wasn't John O. Smith, Um, but he
- 22:49Speaker 1: was disappointing year last year for for Agalore. And people
- 22:53Speaker 1: wanted to get rid of him. He hads like a
- 22:54Speaker 1: fourteen point eight million dollars cap hit or something along
- 22:58Speaker 1: those lines. We gotta trade this guy. We got trade him.
- 23:00Speaker 1: Now we've got Parker, we don't we don't need him.
- 23:02Speaker 1: We got to trade him. Where would they be, right,
- 23:05Speaker 1: Where would they be without Agalore on Sunday? That's right,
- 23:08Speaker 1: that's true. I mean it's like the forty nine is
- 23:10Speaker 1: in Jimmy Garoppolo. I mean, you didn't want to you
- 23:12Speaker 1: didn't want to play I mean, you didn't want to
- 23:15Speaker 1: play Born. And if you didn't have Agalore, I don't know.
- 23:19Speaker 1: I don't know if you'd you'd have won that game
- 23:20Speaker 1: on Sunday, if it was just Parker and Myers. Yeah, um, okay,
- 23:25Speaker 1: anything else coming out of the game, Um, I mean
- 23:28Speaker 1: I thought penalties were you know, they had a few.
- 23:30Speaker 1: But that's why, you know, we move on from the superlatives.
- 23:33Speaker 1: There were a lot of similarities in those two games
- 23:35Speaker 1: with the mental stuff. Yeah, there were a lot more.
- 23:37Speaker 1: There was pre snap penalties again, um, a couple of things.
- 23:42Speaker 1: The difference is the gaffs that they made this this
- 23:45Speaker 1: game that they didn't get away with against Miami they
- 23:47Speaker 1: got away with. Yeah, he throws the ball right to
- 23:50Speaker 1: Cameron's as a Cameron Sutton, but Sutton's first name a
- 23:54Speaker 1: defensive back for Pittsburgh, right right right. It was twenty
- 23:57Speaker 1: the same, by the way, the same interception that he
- 23:59Speaker 1: threw repeatedly on the practice field and once in the
- 24:04Speaker 1: in the preseason, rolling one way, throwing back the other
- 24:07Speaker 1: um and throw that he can't make, but he keeps
- 24:09Speaker 1: doing it, and that throw hit twenty right in the chest.
- 24:12Speaker 1: He drops it. Witherspoon has a chance to make a
- 24:15Speaker 1: pick at the end of the half, huge momentum changer.
- 24:17Speaker 1: Agila wrestles it away from him. Myles Bryant, you know,
- 24:21Speaker 1: muffs a punt into the end zone. Fortunate to come away.
- 24:24Speaker 1: Why is it even fielding that There used to be
- 24:27Speaker 1: a rule you put your heels on the ten and
- 24:29Speaker 1: anything over your head you don't touch. You run away
- 24:32Speaker 1: from it and let it hope that it bounces into
- 24:34Speaker 1: the end Really don't want a guy catch him one
- 24:36Speaker 1: over his shoulder running back. But now these guys are
- 24:39Speaker 1: fielding punts inside the ten and it's like so risky.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Did you see Tamara's game over the weekend that was
- 24:45Speaker 1: was that Oh yeah, where he tried like what was
- 24:49Speaker 1: he doing? Why is he getting caught the ball at
- 24:52Speaker 1: the blade of grass? Lot? And then he's like trying
- 24:55Speaker 1: to keep his feet in dude, if you go in
- 24:58Speaker 1: the end zone, it's a touch back. Hey, what are
- 25:00Speaker 1: you doing? My guy? What are you doing? I think
- 25:03Speaker 1: he forgot he was like on the receiving team. You know,
- 25:07Speaker 1: it was weird, like anyway, poor guy. Oh, I felt
- 25:11Speaker 1: so bad. It was like I saw like five minutes
- 25:15Speaker 1: of college football on Saturday, and that was one of them,
- 25:17Speaker 1: you know, aside from the end of cock college game. Um,
- 25:20Speaker 1: and that was that was all I saw on Twitter
- 25:22Speaker 1: all day. Yeah, that between that and the app State
- 25:27Speaker 1: Hill Mary, that's like, oh yeah, I did see the
- 25:29Speaker 1: highlight where they all smashed into the goal post. Is
- 25:31Speaker 1: that the one? Oh no, that was that was a
- 25:33Speaker 1: different game. Okay, that was funny too. They all just
- 25:36Speaker 1: went down like bowling pins, right, all right. So there
- 25:40Speaker 1: were some things, yeah, you know, they got away with
- 25:43Speaker 1: some you know, like just think about just how how
- 25:46Speaker 1: tenuous it can be in the league. The interception that
- 25:50Speaker 1: he threw that was dropped by Sutton and two plays
- 25:54Speaker 1: later they punked the ball off of Gunner's face. Right,
- 25:57Speaker 1: so you go. You went from a crushing turn her
- 26:00Speaker 1: to a crushing turnover for the other team. Yep. And
- 26:04Speaker 1: that's a fourteen point swing. Yep. I some might call
- 26:08Speaker 1: it that much. Yeah, I want to go back to
- 26:10Speaker 1: what if we did a segment that we took the
- 26:12Speaker 1: key element of a game and we called it the
- 26:15Speaker 1: turning point to Marry, what do you think can we
- 26:18Speaker 1: use that the turning point? She's just looking at me
- 26:21Speaker 1: like I'm not having it. I'm like, I'm young, but
- 26:26Speaker 1: I'm young, You're not. I'm not having this at all.
- 26:28Speaker 1: I want to go back to Mac a little bit,
- 26:30Speaker 1: because the season revolves around him, the success or failure
- 26:33Speaker 1: of this, you know. Like I again, I don't think
- 26:37Speaker 1: he had the confidence that I think he needs on
- 26:41Speaker 1: every play, But there were a couple where and there
- 26:44Speaker 1: was one it was probably a twenty five yard passed downfield.
- 26:48Speaker 1: I don't know if it was Smith or Myers, where
- 26:50Speaker 1: he threw it a little high and it wasn't really catchable,
- 26:54Speaker 1: but he stepped in and just drove the ball and like,
- 26:58Speaker 1: I saw arm strength there that I hadn't seen all game.
- 27:01Speaker 1: I think he's got it. It's just upstairs, like when
- 27:05Speaker 1: he you know, is sure about the throw and steps
- 27:08Speaker 1: into it. I think he can generate the type of
- 27:11Speaker 1: you know, he's never gonna be Lamar, you know, any
- 27:14Speaker 1: of these guys with big arms, but I think he
- 27:17Speaker 1: can generate sufficient power when he throws with decisiveness. I
- 27:24Speaker 1: saw it, you know, Yeah, I think everybody would agree
- 27:27Speaker 1: with you. Yeah. The difference between him is he needs that, yeah,
- 27:30Speaker 1: to do it like that. Yeah, everybody else can just
- 27:33Speaker 1: do it right. The weird part, I mean, did you
- 27:34Speaker 1: see Josh Allen. It's ridiculous. It's ridiculous, I mean, and
- 27:37Speaker 1: it's I'm not even trying to you know, I'm not
- 27:40Speaker 1: even trying to compare him to Josh Allen because not
- 27:43Speaker 1: only Josh Allen's an MVP candidate, but in terms of
- 27:46Speaker 1: raw skills, he might be the most physically gifted guy
- 27:50Speaker 1: in the league. So it's not fair to compare everybody.
- 27:52Speaker 1: I know, but I'm just talking about but the effortless
- 27:55Speaker 1: like flips down the field, it's, you know, ridiculous on
- 27:58Speaker 1: the move, you know, away, I've never seen all right,
- 28:01Speaker 1: we saw, I've never seen so many. I've never seen
- 28:04Speaker 1: a guys throw so many fifty yard passes like on
- 28:06Speaker 1: a line. Yeah, Like when he throws the ball down
- 28:09Speaker 1: the field, he doesn't have to arc it. No, it's unreal. No.
- 28:13Speaker 1: I think the weird thing for me about mac is
- 28:15Speaker 1: is just the bad decisions and some of the processing
- 28:19Speaker 1: stuff that weren't really issues last year, that those things
- 28:22Speaker 1: are popping up. And I think the dropped interception is
- 28:25Speaker 1: just the perfect example of like, that's just right there
- 28:27Speaker 1: everything you can't can't, can't do in a game like that,
- 28:31Speaker 1: And it scared me. How about the deep ball, like
- 28:34Speaker 1: the deep over route to John U on third and
- 28:37Speaker 1: three with Jacoby Myers, Like, yeah, see, and that's and
- 28:40Speaker 1: like and I know, you know, you get into like
- 28:41Speaker 1: the film and the mindset going into that play because
- 28:47Speaker 1: the play itself unfolds. He's not looking at Jacoby that
- 28:50Speaker 1: I get. I'm with you on that. He's looking down
- 28:53Speaker 1: the field to make a big play. Yeah, but I'm
- 28:55Speaker 1: asking why why are we not just looking to move
- 28:58Speaker 1: the chayoffs? I know, And that's that's you know, it's
- 29:01Speaker 1: just when you see the play ends and you can
- 29:03Speaker 1: see the body language of the receiver as like there's
- 29:06Speaker 1: no one around me, give it, you know, for that
- 29:08Speaker 1: split second where everybody knows and Twitter right. But I
- 29:12Speaker 1: just I do think that he's not taken the easy
- 29:15Speaker 1: money up front and and you know, finding guys and
- 29:18Speaker 1: just you know, boom right out, let the guy catch
- 29:20Speaker 1: it and run with it a little bit um, you know.
- 29:22Speaker 1: I just I think maybe he's in his own head,
- 29:25Speaker 1: but but just some of the decision making. If he
- 29:26Speaker 1: can clean that mental stuff up, I think that there
- 29:28Speaker 1: are more plays to be made for him. I think
- 29:31Speaker 1: I think part of what I saw yesterday later in
- 29:34Speaker 1: the game was him being more sure of his offensive line,
- 29:38Speaker 1: because I think in Miami he was jittering. It looked
- 29:41Speaker 1: like it from the get go, Yes, And I thought
- 29:43Speaker 1: that was something that coaches hammered home to him this Yeah,
- 29:46Speaker 1: because I thought the first drive of the game he
- 29:48Speaker 1: looked more comfortable, Yeah, more settled, and he did last week. Yeah,
- 29:52Speaker 1: it's like, you know, they're gonna you're gonna be fine. Look,
- 29:54Speaker 1: I mean that's when he was last year. That was
- 29:56Speaker 1: what impressed me last year with him, if just there
- 29:57Speaker 1: was chaos going around him and he kept his eyes
- 29:59Speaker 1: down for and he was able to you know, still
- 30:01Speaker 1: process and make the throws. So it was nice to
- 30:04Speaker 1: see that, and you know, maybe it's or building hopefully,
- 30:07Speaker 1: but I mean another you know, I mean, I I
- 30:09Speaker 1: always respect the Ravens defense. It's like, no matter who
- 30:11Speaker 1: they kind of have, I'm I'm I'm worried because I
- 30:13Speaker 1: feel like they're going to be aggressive. I was keeping
- 30:16Speaker 1: my eyes on the sideline after some of the bad drives,
- 30:18Speaker 1: what you know, what was going on. And one time
- 30:21Speaker 1: Mac came over, sat down, and Bill came over and
- 30:24Speaker 1: was going over something. I don't know if he was
- 30:26Speaker 1: on the tablet or a piece of paper, but it
- 30:27Speaker 1: was a lot. Yeah, he bent over and he was
- 30:30Speaker 1: talking to Mac. And then when Matt when Bill left
- 30:32Speaker 1: and it was judge, but Bill was spending time with me,
- 30:35Speaker 1: kept showing that yeah it was Bill. After like the
- 30:37Speaker 1: first several drives, yeah, and Bill had his back to
- 30:40Speaker 1: the to the defense completely. And then there was another
- 30:42Speaker 1: bad drive where Mac was frustrated and Hoyer came up
- 30:46Speaker 1: to him and he was talking to him. And then
- 30:49Speaker 1: as he's walking by, Patricia came up to him and
- 30:52Speaker 1: Matt kind of like he said a couple would and
- 30:54Speaker 1: just kept walking like yeah, yeah, yeah, I know, you know. Um,
- 30:58Speaker 1: so it's just looking again at some of that, you know,
- 31:01Speaker 1: sideline interactions, see how No it's important, like what is
- 31:05Speaker 1: going on over there? I was just thinking, who's in
- 31:07Speaker 1: his ear? You know, who's either calming him down or
- 31:10Speaker 1: giving him you know, you know the view of what
- 31:13Speaker 1: happened from another perspective. And you know, I just I
- 31:17Speaker 1: thought it was interesting that Bill was doing a lot
- 31:20Speaker 1: of that early. No, We've been talking about so much.
- 31:22Speaker 1: I feel like we need a writer just to do
- 31:24Speaker 1: nothing but tell you everything to happen on the sidelines
- 31:26Speaker 1: the whole game, and document everybody who talked to I mean,
- 31:29Speaker 1: I read something don't forget the born Matt Patricia hug
- 31:32Speaker 1: don't forget Billy Yates this week. I think I think
- 31:38Speaker 1: that was a one game thing where they figured at
- 31:40Speaker 1: halftime the Saint working, we got to get him down here. Yeah,
- 31:43Speaker 1: you know it seems like an adjustment, yeah, that they made. No,
- 31:47Speaker 1: I mean, hopefully it gets better. I just I'm not
- 31:50Speaker 1: as um, you know, wringing my hand right now about
- 31:52Speaker 1: offensive design and all that kind of stuff. I just
- 31:55Speaker 1: I just want to see Mac take take to take
- 31:57Speaker 1: the easy stuff and and will continue to look comfortable
- 32:00Speaker 1: like he did. And if he does, I think I
- 32:02Speaker 1: think they're gonna be okay. I of course, what is
- 32:04Speaker 1: okay mean? After you look at we need we don't
- 32:09Speaker 1: have enough evidence yet. I mean, there's not enough evidence
- 32:12Speaker 1: to draw any conclusions. You know, um, next week is
- 32:16Speaker 1: gonna be big and then going on the road to
- 32:19Speaker 1: green Bay. I don't care what Green Bay's offense looks like.
- 32:22Speaker 1: You got Aaron Rodgers and looks like you know, Aaron
- 32:25Speaker 1: Jones or what's the running back's name. J Yeah, he
- 32:28Speaker 1: looks like he's playing pretty well, you know, yeah, big boy.
- 32:34Speaker 1: So you know they've got some pieces there. They'll be fine. Yeah, yeah,
- 32:38Speaker 1: green Bay, that'll I mean, I'm not just you can
- 32:40Speaker 1: hold me this one, fred, I won't be talking about
- 32:44Speaker 1: the lack of receivers in Green Bay if the Patriot's
- 32:46Speaker 1: going and shut down at I don't I don't like that, Matt.
- 32:51Speaker 1: I don't like the the fraudulent people that tell you
- 32:53Speaker 1: after the game that was a great performance or that
- 32:56Speaker 1: one wasn't that impressive. No, we all know that Pittsburgh,
- 33:00Speaker 1: everybody in their brother sort of predicted the kind of
- 33:04Speaker 1: game that we saw it on Sunday. That's true, right,
- 33:06Speaker 1: That is sixteen thirteen seventeen fourteen, twenty one, seventeen something.
- 33:10Speaker 1: Who gets and someone's gonna make a big mistake and
- 33:12Speaker 1: that's going to decide the game. That's exactly I mean,
- 33:14Speaker 1: just listen. I'm not trying to I'm not asking for
- 33:17Speaker 1: a pat in the back. It's one of the rare
- 33:19Speaker 1: times that all of the idiots like us got one. Right. Yeah,
- 33:22Speaker 1: that's exactly the way the game unfolded. And that's the
- 33:24Speaker 1: exactly even seven the sharps, what was it two and
- 33:28Speaker 1: a half of the Patriots win by three. Right, that's
- 33:31Speaker 1: it's impressive how they do that. It doesn't happen often.
- 33:34Speaker 1: Are keeping you up over it is? It's I think
- 33:41Speaker 1: it's the fall weather one o'clock Sunday games and is
- 33:45Speaker 1: burning it on both ends. Yeah, she's doing college seven jobs,
- 33:49Speaker 1: going the flying U and ones are gonna start. She's
- 33:51Speaker 1: kind of got go the press Conference's gonna put a
- 33:54Speaker 1: hard hat on on a minute and go up in
- 33:56Speaker 1: a crane flyer stadium. It's good to be young. I
- 34:00Speaker 1: don't feel younger, I don't feel tardy, but I did
- 34:04Speaker 1: think that was one of those games that you know,
- 34:07Speaker 1: everybody kind of knit. So I'm not going to sit
- 34:09Speaker 1: there and say, wow, who saw that coming? And unbelievable
- 34:13Speaker 1: performance by the deep Well, pretty much everybody right thought
- 34:16Speaker 1: that the defense, it would have been more of a story.
- 34:18Speaker 1: Patriots defense is better scored third, everybody thought the Patriots
- 34:22Speaker 1: defense was better than the Steelers offense, and that the
- 34:25Speaker 1: Steelers defense was better than the Patriots offense. And that's
- 34:28Speaker 1: kind of the way the game unfolded. Yeah, you know,
- 34:31Speaker 1: I think the Patriots offense was much better than Pittsburgh's offense. Yeah,
- 34:34Speaker 1: it kind of in the game. Yeah, it kind of
- 34:36Speaker 1: felt like one of the last year's games. I mean,
- 34:37Speaker 1: so these are Patriots games where when they don't make
- 34:39Speaker 1: the critical mistake and you know, they show up, they
- 34:42Speaker 1: make a couple couple of key stops here and there
- 34:44Speaker 1: like that, they're you know, they're generally a good team
- 34:46Speaker 1: usually like and that's those are the kind of games
- 34:48Speaker 1: they're able to win. And even if and I understand,
- 34:50Speaker 1: like the Gunner play was huge, but I'm just gonna
- 34:53Speaker 1: say that he just caught the ball, you know, like
- 34:56Speaker 1: he's supposed to um or if he was still in
- 34:59Speaker 1: the Patriots and the ball bounced off his face mask
- 35:01Speaker 1: and went out of bounds like it did when he
- 35:03Speaker 1: was here. M I still think the Patriots would have
- 35:07Speaker 1: won the game. Yeah, I just something else and I
- 35:10Speaker 1: don't I don't know if there would have been any
- 35:12Speaker 1: more mistakes, but I think that was the style of
- 35:15Speaker 1: game that the Patriots have generally found a way to
- 35:17Speaker 1: win with mac Jones. Turnover. You know, you had the
- 35:20Speaker 1: numbers in the turnover margin when they win the turnover battle,
- 35:23Speaker 1: there's something like nine and one. When they lose it,
- 35:25Speaker 1: their oh and eight or something. I don't know, something
- 35:27Speaker 1: silly like that. Um, But I just feel like when
- 35:31Speaker 1: the Patriots are leading for an extended period of time
- 35:34Speaker 1: and they play with the lead for an extended period
- 35:36Speaker 1: of time, they generally win with mac Jones. If they're behind,
- 35:39Speaker 1: I don't have the same faith. They were behind that
- 35:42Speaker 1: whole like at that time in the second half, and
- 35:45Speaker 1: that turned the tables, then I would I would have
- 35:47Speaker 1: thought differently, But they were winning. I think it was
- 35:49Speaker 1: ten to three at the time, right or ten to
- 35:51Speaker 1: six at the time. I had pretty good faith that
- 35:55Speaker 1: they were gonna they were gonna do that. Yeah. I
- 35:57Speaker 1: think it's why people struggle to actually really believe that
- 36:00Speaker 1: they're gonna win less than six games, you know, I
- 36:02Speaker 1: think this is a kind of team that they play
- 36:05Speaker 1: well enough, they're gonna get seven eight wins every year
- 36:08Speaker 1: just because they're well coached and they're not you know,
- 36:10Speaker 1: for a lot of the games, they're not going to
- 36:12Speaker 1: beat themselves. I think the big question everybody's wondering is
- 36:14Speaker 1: when are they going to beat a good team. When
- 36:16Speaker 1: are they gonna go toe to toe? When are they
- 36:17Speaker 1: gonna come from behind? You know, those kind of wins,
- 36:19Speaker 1: because I think Paul's right. You know, generally when they
- 36:22Speaker 1: won with Mackott, it looks pretty much, you know, very
- 36:24Speaker 1: similar kind of games. So a lot of challenges coming
- 36:27Speaker 1: up though. And I hope Dugger's okay. Yeah, um one,
- 36:30Speaker 1: And I was excited he had that kickoff return and
- 36:34Speaker 1: he looked pretty good on that. Paul is excited too.
- 36:36Speaker 1: He's been calling for that. Yeah, so now now he
- 36:38Speaker 1: gets enough for one play. So now he's got the
- 36:42Speaker 1: knee and it's like, uh, you know, but um, I
- 36:45Speaker 1: love seeing him back there taking kicks. I mean, he
- 36:48Speaker 1: was really good doing that for the Plus sized woman
- 36:50Speaker 1: department score. So lenoorl Ryan is that? Oh yes, that's
- 36:54Speaker 1: what I call Lenoor Ryan. I have never heard that
- 36:56Speaker 1: you don't you think Leo Ryan sounds like a plus
- 36:59Speaker 1: sized woman's partner would have shopped there yet? But I mean,
- 37:01Speaker 1: you know, no, I'm just very alive. She lost all right?
- 37:11Speaker 1: Eight five five pass five hundred. It's the eighth ticket
- 37:13Speaker 1: hot line eight five five past five hundred. Web radio
- 37:16Speaker 1: at Patriots dot com. Is the email address one of
- 37:19Speaker 1: Marcus Jones. Maybe gets it gets a shot now with
- 37:22Speaker 1: with with Douglas hurt, they're not feeling great about Miles Bryant.
- 37:25Speaker 1: Maybe it's it's time to give him a chance. Was
- 37:28Speaker 1: he active? He wasn't. No, so that's active. That's the thing.
- 37:31Speaker 1: You know. Do you give up a roster spot on
- 37:33Speaker 1: game day for him just for kickoffs? You know? Tough
- 37:36Speaker 1: to tell, but but I would say two. Jack Jones
- 37:38Speaker 1: is getting you know, he's getting some playtime early on
- 37:41Speaker 1: second game of his career. That's always a good sign.
- 37:43Speaker 1: So let me ask you a question. You know, I
- 37:45Speaker 1: don't want to get too far ahead of the thing
- 37:47Speaker 1: because usually Wednesday we turned the page. But you know,
- 37:51Speaker 1: Lamar Jackson is amazing, but he's not big. It's not
- 37:55Speaker 1: like you're trying to take down Josh Allen. So is
- 37:57Speaker 1: this a good game for Marcus Jones to be in
- 38:00Speaker 1: speed with his speed just to be able to get
- 38:02Speaker 1: there and hold on until you get help, you know, maybe.
- 38:05Speaker 1: I mean, I mean, I would say to the point
- 38:08Speaker 1: that I kind of started the show with the defense.
- 38:09Speaker 1: I feel. I feel overall their speed has has improved
- 38:12Speaker 1: and they're putting guys in in better position where they
- 38:14Speaker 1: can't be exposed as much in certain situations. Um, but
- 38:18Speaker 1: you know between Miles, Brian and And and Jonathan Jones,
- 38:21Speaker 1: and you know Mills isn't a burner, but but I
- 38:23Speaker 1: think he's he's tough tackler and you know, sets a
- 38:26Speaker 1: pretty good edge and comes up pretty hard. And I like,
- 38:29Speaker 1: I like what they got. I mean, I like how
- 38:30Speaker 1: they're spinning the dial right now. You know, we'll see
- 38:33Speaker 1: what they have to do. Though against Lamar, I think
- 38:35Speaker 1: it's a it's such a unique they keep tackling. Well,
- 38:37Speaker 1: if they keep tacking, they have I think that's a Yeah.
- 38:40Speaker 1: There's just so many Like watch those last two drives
- 38:42Speaker 1: in the three and out. It's like every single tackle
- 38:44Speaker 1: there's four Patriots making the tackle. You just wonder, like,
- 38:47Speaker 1: when did they get to practice that? I know, you know,
- 38:50Speaker 1: it's it looks really impressive. I mean, I just think
- 38:52Speaker 1: when you look at the defense, that's something you always
- 38:54Speaker 1: people always, you know, our guys getting in there gang tackle.
- 38:57Speaker 1: You know. Mike is right though, like that's why you
- 38:59Speaker 1: don't miss the tackle because if if a guy score,
- 39:02Speaker 1: it's free, there's another guy to hit him. Right, So
- 39:04Speaker 1: maybe he would have missed that tackle if there was
- 39:07Speaker 1: just one on one in space. But they don't have
- 39:10Speaker 1: a lot of those early on. It's two games, but
- 39:12Speaker 1: they haven't had a lot of those situations where it's
- 39:15Speaker 1: been one guy having to make a play. Yeah, all right,
- 39:18Speaker 1: five past five hundred is the a ticket hot line.
- 39:20Speaker 1: Let's go to it now. Aaron is in Connecticut? What's
- 39:23Speaker 1: up Aaron? Aaron actually got in the locker room. I
- 39:30Speaker 1: swear these guys he's been holding on since party. Aaron's
- 39:33Speaker 1: not there. I guess he can call back up. He
- 39:35Speaker 1: wants Williams and Phil him. What's up? William How good?
- 39:42Speaker 1: Wake up? Anyway? Um? Is what's going on with Mac
- 39:53Speaker 1: and DeVante Parker? Why they you know that comedy? He's
- 39:56Speaker 1: not coming together? Like, what's what's the problem. Well, we
- 40:00Speaker 1: don't know. I mean, like like we we talked about
- 40:02Speaker 1: it a little earlier. Is it Mac just not going
- 40:04Speaker 1: to him like he has an option and he's just
- 40:07Speaker 1: not throwing to Parker Or is Parker not part of
- 40:09Speaker 1: the targeting offense. I don't know. We don't know the answer,
- 40:13Speaker 1: you know, because like Paul said, it's not like Mac
- 40:15Speaker 1: tried to throw it to him five times and he
- 40:17Speaker 1: only caught one. He only went to him twice. And
- 40:20Speaker 1: I'll defend Parker and say again, on that deep ball,
- 40:22Speaker 1: I thought Parker got open. Now they covered him with
- 40:25Speaker 1: a linebacker. You should get open, but he did and
- 40:28Speaker 1: he was open, and that was not I don't think
- 40:29Speaker 1: that was a tough throw. I think you had all
- 40:31Speaker 1: kinds of space to the left, erin out let him
- 40:34Speaker 1: run under it to the left, and I think that's
- 40:36Speaker 1: a touchdown at least a big play. Maybe Fitzpatrick catches him. Yeah.
- 40:41Speaker 1: So do you think Deance Parker might be starting to
- 40:44Speaker 1: get a little bit frustrated? I don't know. I haven't
- 40:48Speaker 1: hard to say. I haven't heard anything like that, but
- 40:50Speaker 1: you know, it's it's worth worth keeping an eye on. Sure,
- 40:54Speaker 1: these receivers are a different breed. You know, some of
- 40:57Speaker 1: them want there, they don't get theirs and they want
- 40:59Speaker 1: their you know born you know, still kind of an afterthought.
- 41:03Speaker 1: Parker is out there a lot but not getting a
- 41:06Speaker 1: lot of targets. It's something to keep an eye on. Yeah, okay,
- 41:09Speaker 1: and that could not leads. Okay, and this one's for you, dude,
- 41:12Speaker 1: So your boy Bill Belichick. Huh. Then he passed up
- 41:16Speaker 1: on Lamar Jackson and Win got Sony Michelle and uh
- 41:19Speaker 1: I win from I'm still reliving the side of Head
- 41:22Speaker 1: and Lamar Jackson. I hate Lamar Jackson. I don't want
- 41:25Speaker 1: him what he's kidding. He's kidding. He wanted to see
- 41:29Speaker 1: if you can make your head how many He doesn't
- 41:31Speaker 1: want to playoff Gamelin. Yeah, I got that with Mac
- 41:37Speaker 1: right now. I don't know. I'm not really to be
- 41:40Speaker 1: honest though, I mean, I do like Lamar, but I'm
- 41:42Speaker 1: not really lamenting that whole situation. I don't. I mean,
- 41:45Speaker 1: imagine if a lot of guys imagine if in the
- 41:47Speaker 1: in their off seasons, the Red Sox got Aaron Judge
- 41:51Speaker 1: and the Patriots got Lamar Jackson. I couldn't see him
- 41:55Speaker 1: playing here, to be honest, It'd be awesome just to
- 41:57Speaker 1: see how dudes would do mental gymnastics to race him
- 42:01Speaker 1: based on that last comage one lamar Yeah, why great,
- 42:04Speaker 1: big Lamar Fan. I just don't know if you could
- 42:07Speaker 1: fit this right. She's right, Well, he doesn't hit this
- 42:11Speaker 1: fit Lamarck. Correct, he would not run this offense. No,
- 42:14Speaker 1: but people want to score. Change. I want to score
- 42:17Speaker 1: once in a while. You wouldn't run this, well, you
- 42:18Speaker 1: change your offense to fit Lamar Jack. That's what Baltimore did,
- 42:21Speaker 1: and a lot of people, you know, said, oh, that's
- 42:23Speaker 1: a big risk, and it paid off. I mean they
- 42:25Speaker 1: had a lot of guts to do that. The Eagles.
- 42:28Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts, Yeah, he's proving there a guy who's improved
- 42:31Speaker 1: more in the time in the league than Jalen Hurts. Yeah. No,
- 42:35Speaker 1: I mean I gotta admit I didn't see that count
- 42:37Speaker 1: at the baseline too. We saw him you on camp, Yes, didn't,
- 42:42Speaker 1: wasn't processing didn't look and he could run sure, just
- 42:45Speaker 1: oh he could always run. But all right, thanks, Well
- 42:50Speaker 1: it's ironic. It's gray. Do you know what ronic means?
- 42:55Speaker 1: Do you am dumb? All right, we'll gotta take a
- 42:58Speaker 1: break because Paul's food is here and we'll be right
- 43:01Speaker 1: back after this. Want to get into the game, get

- 55:16Speaker 1: the Patriots and Vikings game on Thanksgiving with my father
- 55:20Speaker 1: and brother, wanted to see what you guys are most
- 55:23Speaker 1: excited about going into week three. Okay, with the win
- 55:26Speaker 1: over the Pittsburgh I'm personally excited to see how this
- 55:29Speaker 1: defensive front plays against a scrambling quarterback such as Lamar.
- 55:33Speaker 1: I truly believe that our big boys up front have
- 55:36Speaker 1: the talent to be one of the best, if not
- 55:38Speaker 1: the best, in the NFL. Barmore is a stud and
- 55:41Speaker 1: I can't wait to see what this defensive squad can
- 55:44Speaker 1: do as the season rolls on. Thank you all for
- 55:46Speaker 1: the continued coverage of the Patriots. I think the defensive
- 55:52Speaker 1: front has been playing well, but Barmore isn't playing every
- 55:55Speaker 1: down and is that a good thing or a bad thing? Well,
- 55:58Speaker 1: I think he played more in this game, and I
- 56:00Speaker 1: think he was a little bit more active in this one.
- 56:02Speaker 1: Pull up the stats of exactly where is he Barmore?
- 56:07Speaker 1: So he played thirty five snaps fifty nine percent, so
- 56:09Speaker 1: you know, more than half. Um, I'm okay with him
- 56:12Speaker 1: being in that range, but he's not. He's usually not
- 56:14Speaker 1: in there on early downs, right, But he did, I
- 56:17Speaker 1: mean to Mike's pony, he played more than guy and
- 56:19Speaker 1: gotcha Okay, So all right. I think they got him
- 56:21Speaker 1: a little. I mean, I definitely something on the radar
- 56:24Speaker 1: for sure of his playtime and just wanting him to
- 56:26Speaker 1: be out there. I think he's effective. He had you know,
- 56:27Speaker 1: a bunch of pressures and um did he pick up
- 56:31Speaker 1: a sack? I just remember him celebrate. I don't think
- 56:34Speaker 1: he's been very active so far, and I love barb.
- 56:36Speaker 1: You guys know Barmore, Yeah, my my bankie. I don't
- 56:39Speaker 1: think he's been overly unjunction with other guys. When it has,
- 56:44Speaker 1: it hasn't just been a moment where he just walks somebody,
- 56:47Speaker 1: you know, back on skates into into the car. I
- 56:49Speaker 1: do think he had an early one of those where
- 56:51Speaker 1: he just like bull rushed the guard and disrupted the
- 56:54Speaker 1: pocket and he may actually have gotten the sack. It
- 56:57Speaker 1: was like one of the one of the first positions
- 56:59Speaker 1: he had a sack, yea one. If only, if only
- 57:03Speaker 1: we could do that you mimiograph the stats, right, um, yeah,
- 57:07Speaker 1: Unfortunately it doesn't smell like it did. Yeah, he got
- 57:10Speaker 1: Barmoy was credited with a sack only, but that was
- 57:13Speaker 1: one of his two tackles. Yeah, so so clarify this
- 57:17Speaker 1: again for me. If you get a sack, you also
- 57:18Speaker 1: got a tackle for lost anna QB hit. That's all
- 57:22Speaker 1: one play, all one play. I wish I had known
- 57:24Speaker 1: that before, got a long time thinking that they were
- 57:27Speaker 1: all separate things like if I mean, I mean not
- 57:30Speaker 1: only did if you just look, if you just look
- 57:32Speaker 1: at it right now, so you had three sacks. It
- 57:34Speaker 1: was Jude on to buy in in Barmore. Yeah, and
- 57:37Speaker 1: they all had quarterback hits on top of their sacks.
- 57:40Speaker 1: They only had three quarterbacks one right, right, and they
- 57:44Speaker 1: were all by the same guys. I think this needs
- 57:46Speaker 1: to be clarified. I mean, I'm just you know, speaking
- 57:47Speaker 1: for people who aren't stat heads, you know, I just
- 57:49Speaker 1: I need to know, need the info. Yeah, and I
- 57:51Speaker 1: am the furthest from being as stat head as you
- 57:53Speaker 1: can get. It's just the traditional stats you're Nathan writes
- 57:57Speaker 1: in In the two games so far, the fourth drives
- 58:00Speaker 1: for each half have ended as follows, the throw to
- 58:02Speaker 1: Parker for a pick, the failed fourth and one on
- 58:05Speaker 1: the Miami thirty, the field goal, and then the missfield
- 58:09Speaker 1: goal by Folk. Granted, the endings haven't been great, but
- 58:12Speaker 1: the drives themselves have looked good, moving the ball, converting
- 58:15Speaker 1: third downs. These are usually scripted drives, and I've seen
- 58:18Speaker 1: a noticeable difference between these drives and the rest. There
- 58:21Speaker 1: are two options, play calling or team execution. But I
- 58:23Speaker 1: agree with what you guys have said about play calling
- 58:26Speaker 1: not being an issue. So why do you think the
- 58:28Speaker 1: team execution is that much better on these drives and
- 58:32Speaker 1: doesn't seem to be up to par during the rest
- 58:34Speaker 1: of the game. I mean even last night with the Titans,
- 58:37Speaker 1: their first drive, they go down the field and score
- 58:39Speaker 1: and I'm like, okay, maybe they can stay in the
- 58:42Speaker 1: rest of the games. Stunk. Yeah, adjustments and stuff. I mean,
- 58:45Speaker 1: I don't want to put too much. Yeah that's it.
- 58:49Speaker 1: Team's just I mean, yeah, I think two. Give Patriots
- 58:52Speaker 1: credit for the last drive two where they ran the ball.
- 58:54Speaker 1: But you know, if you go into the into the game,
- 58:56Speaker 1: you know what the plan is. You've all right, this
- 58:58Speaker 1: is what we're gonna do. Maybe the first fifty plays
- 59:00Speaker 1: are even scripted. You know, there's not the question of
- 59:03Speaker 1: all right, they're taking this away. Now we got to
- 59:04Speaker 1: start doing this. And I think that's one of the
- 59:06Speaker 1: biggest tests of this new offensive setup is you know
- 59:09Speaker 1: how well I'm sure that you know, Bill Belichick knows
- 59:11Speaker 1: what how he would like to counter certain things that
- 59:14Speaker 1: defenses do. I just wonder can they communicate it to
- 59:17Speaker 1: the players and get it to be executed that way.
- 59:19Speaker 1: I think Bill is so good and I'm dead serious
- 59:22Speaker 1: when I say this is not a punchline coming. I
- 59:25Speaker 1: think Bill is so good of understanding what the other
- 59:27Speaker 1: team is going to do and how they're probably going
- 59:29Speaker 1: to prepare to attack you. That he has a plan
- 59:34Speaker 1: going into most games that generally works. Right now, it doesn't.
- 59:37Speaker 1: I mean, no one's perfect. So there's gonna be games
- 59:40Speaker 1: where they go three and out in that first drive too.
- 59:42Speaker 1: I mean, let's face it, they were very close to
- 59:44Speaker 1: going three and out in this drive. You know, Myers
- 59:48Speaker 1: got the first down right on the line on a
- 59:50Speaker 1: third and like seven where he had to break a
- 59:53Speaker 1: couple of tackles. Really tough run after the catch. But
- 59:57Speaker 1: I think that's it. I think Mike has it. I
- 59:59Speaker 1: think that they have a good plan going in the
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: other team adjust to it, and they're generally able to
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: slow you down a little bit. I thought in this
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: game they moved the ball much better throughout the game
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: than they did in the first game. First game, it
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: was all about those two drives. Right this game, I
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: thought they I mean they had three hundred and what
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: was it, three hundred and seventy six yards of offense.
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: That's nothing wrong with that. No, they'll take that. Andrea
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: New Jersey, first off, I want to give you guys
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: some criticism when you were doing your picks last week. Wait,
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: you guys skipped over the Patriots. You had turning over
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: the page and the mic, but when you went back
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: to the Patriots, I noticed no page's turn. He's absolutely right.
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: I believe Fred needs to call in scowl for the
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: last thirty minutes of the show's good. He's absolutely right.
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: I don't think we did. I don't think we did that, Fred.
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: Good job by you. Not a great week, but a response,
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: I yeah, A little better. Good job by you, a
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: little better? Uh Babi from Squanham writes in um, it
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: was a good win this week, but I yell. I'm
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: starting to notice a pattern with Mac where his celebrations
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: can sometimes be a little much. Not trying to sound
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: old old man yells at a cloud. I actually like
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: the fire he shows, and certainly preferred to the alternative.
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: It's just that I feel like sometimes he can be
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: a little showboatie or go the crowd, and I worry
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: it can fire up an opponent. I know Brady was
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: the same way, but that would usually be in route
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: to dropping thirty on a team. It feels a little
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: disproportionate when Max chirping at the crowd at the end
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: of a seventeen fourteen game where he didn't play all
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: that great. Is anyone else seeing this or am just
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: being a wet blanket. I didn't see what he was
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: talking about. I know, Paul know what I'm talking about. Though,
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: on the scramble when he when he fell down and
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: then the guyed him and he liked. I didn't like that.
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: I don't mind his celebrations, though, I don't know. I
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: like the quarterback when he gets excited in this. I mean,
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: this is the young guy. This is young athletes now everywhere.
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: I mean, this is what they're wrong. But I that's
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: one thing I used to love. I mean, you know,
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: with me, it all comes back to Drew. I used
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: to love when Drew would jump in Bruce Armstrong's arms
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: after a touch like. I didn't look at that as
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: like firing up the other team. So I don't have
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: any problem with Max celebrating touchdowns now. I get his point, like,
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: and he might be talking about something different that Mike
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: and I weren't there. We're on getting ready to do
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: the postgame show, so we didn't see this. If he's
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: like talking crap leaving the field of a seventeen fourteen win,
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: I kind of agree with with the the email or like,
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: all right, what did you do? Yeah, well you said
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: Brady got into it and as a result got into it.
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: Mike Evans gets, uh, suspended, half my half my fantasy
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: team is suspended. Yeah, I'm the bad boys of the PO.
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: Was that Brady starting that or was he reacting to
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: somebody else or what was God, there was some John
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: Brady walking back along and and and chirping, and I
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: just love angry old Brady, Like he just doesn't care anymore.
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: I mean he'll go scream in anybody's face, whether it's
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: his team or the other team or doesn't really matter. Yeah.
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: But the play that Mike was talking about, that look
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: that that run where he slid and the defender basically
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: slid to avoid him, you know, when they when there
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: was some contact there but not a hit by any means,
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: And all of a sudden Mac flies back down to
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: the right. The Steeler came in from the left, and
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: then he immediately points like he's looking for a flag.
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: And I was like, oh, that is like the weakest sauce.
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: I mean, if you get hit and you're looking for
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: a flag, that's you know, that's one thing. But he
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: didn't even he barely got breathed on, and he's looking
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: for a flag. I think they called too many of
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: those to begin with. But yeah, I heard someone in
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: the radio yesterday criticizing him a caller, not a not
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: a fell grown match, which that's part for the coolest flag.
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: I love ones like that. When I'm reff in games
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: and kids do that kind of thing and I just
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: stare at I'm like, what you know, when you're the
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: ref and you're the one who has the call, You're
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: like I used to say, get up when I did
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: like the intrimeral basketball, and the guy would be like
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: trying to draw a charge. Get meal basketball, Get up, hey, Marco, smart,
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: get up? Tony's is How would you assess strangest performance
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: so far? I haven't focused on it, so I'd appreciate
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: your assessment. Also, the linebackers, I mean I think, yeah,
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: I think they were I think they were better this week.
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: I mean I don't. I know. Cold Stranger is probably
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: getting some undue credit early on because a couple of
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: of of Twitter highlights, and then I think Bill clarified
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: things a little bit of like all right, let's not
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: just act like he shut down Cameron Hayward won on
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: won the whole game. So, um, but I think he's
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: been pretty good. I mean, I think he's real athletic,
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: you know, and you know, he's kind of got that
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: tuney look to him where he's able to really crouch
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: down and looks like he packs some power and looks
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: good on the move. As they've done more of that,
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: you know, as they pulled him a little bit. I
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: think he looks good on the run, and you know,
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: I think he's probably growing. I mean it's the second game.
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: So my thing with him, you know, the tape that
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: we saw is that sometimes he could get overpowered, and
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: like early in camp he was he was like I've
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: seen that. Yeah, So like I saw yesterday where he
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: would get a good angle on the guy and plan
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: his feet so you know, he had the forward position
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: and he was holding up pretty well. Yeah, you know, um,
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: but you could see still moving back a little bit.
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: He's not always stronger than the guy. He's got to
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: rely on like that leverage and technique and if he
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: gets it right, he's okay. Yeah, And I mean I
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: think he can use his athleticism to his advantage in
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: those kind of situations where I think he's able to,
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: you know, maybe reset a little bit quicker than then
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: some guys might be able to. But as for the linebackers,
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: I like what they're doing. I mean, they it's just
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: it's a conscious shift. It wasn't like I feel like
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: we've been saying for years, they've got to get faster
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: at linebacker. They got to get faster, and you know,
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: and last year the defense kind of looked the same defense,
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: especially at linebacker, that you saw for the last five years.
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: So now that you've got Mack Wilson, and you know,
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: I think we were all like disappointed when you felt
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: like you had this guy Mack Wilson and then he
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: was in training camp not really didn't really seem part
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: of it. So not to say that he is the savior,
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: but I like the rotations that they're kind of using
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: the way that they're using Bentley and to buy on
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: the edge a little bit. I mean, I thought to
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: ha had a pretty nice sack where he just tossed
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: Naji Harris. I know it's taboo to talk positively about
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: Gilani Tavai. Now, I just like I worry. I worry
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: that the whole shift was because I think ray Kuan
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: McMillan was less than one hundred percent in this game.
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: That's what I'm worried about. Yeah, but he was also
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: pretty bad less the first week too, And that's why
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: where where does it? Where's the line between injury and performance?
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: Like like if Tavai didn't have such a big role,
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: I would say, oh, maybe they decided to move to
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: mac wilson. But I thought Tavai played a lot. Yeah, fourteen,
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: Um McMillan had twelve. Yeah, so I worried that if
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: McMillan is healthy, he goes back to that role. Yeah.
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: And like I'm with Mike, I maybe maybe you're not
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: big enough, but I'd rather die with my you know,
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: with my my boots on and go down and swing.
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: It's just the quicknesses with some some athletes trying to
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: make make plays, trying to force the offense to make
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: a play as opposed to just running by a guy.
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: You know, it's a noticeable difference for me, just like
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: it was a noticeable difference get getting to see Davante
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: Adams out west of just like whoa this is? But
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: to see that kind of ability of stop and start
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: and agility to get back and to drop and to
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: you know, definitely a bad throw by Trabisky, but but
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: an athletic and you know, acrobatic play by Mack Wilson
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: to get up in the air. So those are the
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: elements I think they've needed. So they're using it. I
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: think they're doing a good job. They've got a lot
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: of pieces that they're working in. I just I wonder
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: how they're gonna continue to evolve over the course of
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: the season, because it's just like, I don't want to
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: buy right now. I want to see how it looks
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: at the end, and hopefully it looks even better than
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: I right now. I'm gonna need to see it against
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: you know, Buffalo twice. Yeah, Teatrich wise Buffalo getting out
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: to do that then you know, then you're really talking. Uh,
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: let's go to the Ace ticket helpline. Eldred's on the phone.
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: What's up, Eldred tomorrow? How y'all doing good? Good? Great?
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: She's not here, but um got and maybe observation Deuce.
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: He brought it up like last year, you know, Matt
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: was I'm a PenPoint I'm most knew not PenPoint passing,
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: but nowhere to go. Yeah, good decisions, Yeah, Josh mc daniel.
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: But he don't have nobody like the news corner, so
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: you think he might be a little frustrated and don't understand. Yeah,
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: I feel the kids. Yeah, No, you're right, You're right.
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: I think that's a good way to put it. I don't.
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: I just don't know if he's seeing it exactly right
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: right now. It's just you know, when you and it's
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: easy as the Monday morning quarterback to look at Oh
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: look there's a guy wide open right there. But I
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: think it's consistent and it's like the throws that he
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: usually used to make last year, the ones that I
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: feel like he's missing. Yeah, because yeah, Josh on that side.
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: And I don't know if he trusted anybody over everybody
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: with him besides all year, you know, But I don't know.
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: But that's that's one of the questions. Hey, Paul, Yes,
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: I know everybody keeps saying, well, I'm a receiver guy.
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: We still got receivers, but parking their thing. But I
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: know Bill won't do it, no way, but just a
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: high purdle. Pursose, what have you called it? Would you
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: give a third to Cleveland for Cooper? A third round
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: pick for Amari Cooper? Yeah, yeah, I would do that,
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: but I mean, I know they won't do it. I'm
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: just I'm just, you know, want he's got a you
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: know contract too, right that you got acquire. I'd rather
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: just get Thornton back and let him play. Yeah, I
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: don't know, I don't know what he what are you
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: paying him now? I know. I think that's why I
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: don't let him loose. And they thought Gallip gonna be it,
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: but well Gallup, I I think, well Gallup is coming back.
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: I think this week he's coming off a twenty ecl
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: Gallup Like, it's not like he hasn't been good in
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: the first two week he didn't play. Yeah, yes, it's
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: like the Bucks. Like the Bucks have lost all their
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: receivers too. And there you had to sign Cole Beasley
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: to the practice squad. Aaron's back in Connecticut, given another
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: the shot. Hey Aaron, Hey, thank you, thank you, thank you.
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: I do good good? How are you doing good good?
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: I'm a right uh happy about to win, but kind
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: of kind of kind of weirded out by the team.
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: So my question is, seriously, though we're hoping this is
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: gonna be like a couple of years things, you know,
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: how they did with uh with the other young quarterbacks.
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: Jaylor hurts to what they gave him a couple of
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: years and they got him some some some superpowers, all
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: star all star power. I was gonna wait till like
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: the end of Max contract to get him some serious
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: help from true number one help. Next next thing we
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: did was the cover was bare. We just put something
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: in it. Next season, I think it's enough. Ye Next
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: season's the year we're gonna We're gonna get him the
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: year yep. So this is this is more or less
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: just see on what Matt got, what he what he
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: can do. I can't do right. We don't want to
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: give him. We don't want to. We want to see
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: what he can do without the help first. Now I'm
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: only kidding, but I think next year I wouldn't be
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: surprised if there's some additions to the offense. You're gonna
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: have more of cap mean cap space, Myers and Agilore
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: free agents. Yeah, I mean you gotta you gotta figure
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: some of that stuff out. Yep. No, I do understand that,
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: and Agilas can come a long way. I wasn't expecting
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: nothing from I'm one of the ones that write them
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: off or wrote them off. But yeah, I felt like
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: Devant Adams out there. It's kind of hard to get
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: excited about parking, I know. I mean, there's a lot
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: better receivers than what we have in the league right now.
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: But I think next year we're gonna get one of them,
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: and then Thornton's and waiting in the wings. I mean,
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: don't you know, don't totally write this year off. I mean,
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: he he's got some juice to him. I mean, there's
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: there's you know, I think they need to figure out
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: how to use them exactly right. But he wins his
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: first game eligible five Yeah, week five fively. But I
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: think the reports were mid to late October, so you
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: know who knows? Okay? All right, thanks to darn appreciate it.
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: Um let's see. Dave writes in from Bethlehem Patriots fans
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: was parsimonious in praise, but Manny p should get an
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: atta boy. The fourth quarter run plays were great. Strange
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: showed why he was drafted. The timing of those plays
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: were perfect. Steelers were gassed by uptempo surprise late in
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: this game, and Myers was clutch reliable, Please extend him.
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: And how about Mark's job in the kicking game. But
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: I don't know what he means by that, Mark, Marks?
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: Is this Mark? I don't know, Mark. Yeah, we're having
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: trouble writing today. Anyway. Can I just say, like, I'm
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: going to reiterate, you want to agree with the No,
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: I have no problem. I'm going to reiterate, I have
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: no problem with the play calling and all of that stuff.
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: This is two games, Unlike most, I don't have a
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: problem with them, even when the plays don't work. Um
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: lining up and running the ball protecting a three point
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: lead in the fourth quarter is like not imaginative play calling,
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: Like that's execution. But can we give the guys that
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: that actually blew the holes open on the field the
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: credit for moving the ball at the end of the game? Right? Well?
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: Liked offensive line coach too, Paul wouldn't every offense I'd
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: rather give him credit for that than than an imaginative
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: play call. Um wouldn't. Wouldn't any offensive coordinator prefer to
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: run the ball three times for a first down while
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: protecting the lead in the four minuted offense? Yeah? Right now,
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: I think that they probably did some some different things.
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: And again this gets back to Patricia as the offensive
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: line guy or if it's Billy Yates, I don't know. Um,
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: they did some different things with some of the blocking schemes. Um.
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: You know, it was funny because I'd be interested. I'm
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: not all that interested in hearing about it, but I'm
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: sure we are going to hear about it tomorrow. Uh.
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: This seems to be a little catfight going on with
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: the All twenty two's over the amount of zone runs. Um,
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: some thought they saw some Burdard says, no, you didn't. Um.
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: So I'll be interested to see what Evan thinks, you know,
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: in terms of that. But I don't really care. To me,
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: it's did they move the chains? Yes they did? Uh?
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: You know, check you did your job, you know, like
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: I don't really care if you ran inside gap inside
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: zone wide zone gap, I don't really care. Did you produce?
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: Did it work? Yeah? Did it work? Yeah? I h
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: I found myself last night a little bit. You know.
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: It's unfortunate because I think the the storylines have kind
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: of been written about this offensive restart. And I do
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: think though that there is a really interesting story that
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: you'll never get to hear of what Bill Belichick's philosophy
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: was in doing this, And you know, we can talk
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: about the method of how he did it and what
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: he's doing and whether or not people agree with it, fine,
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: but I'm sure that there was a lot of thought
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: put in by him of how do you how do
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: you start over? Like you know what I mean, like
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: like I don't think it was just like I'm just
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: screwing around. I don't know. Here's Like, I'm sure he's
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: put a lot of thought into it. I don't think
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: we'll ever get those answers, but I just would love
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: to ask him. Everyone's saying you're putting in the Shanahan offense,
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: would you say that's accurate? You know, because like what
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: are we basing that off of? Like when did that
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: become the story that this is a Shanahan offense because
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: they ran wide zone. I'll tell you the first couple practice,
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: I'll tell you when it did. The day that Kendrick
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: Boone sat down with Mike Greece, did he say he
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: basically admitted that we're doing a lot of those things. Yeah,
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: but we're doing We're gonna use me like Demo samuel
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: As like like they do in San Francisco. That's that's
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: that's that that's Nope, but that's the genesis of why
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: everybody was convict because Fred and I two, we were
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: blue in the face. They're not changing the office. Nothing
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: to see that that that they're gonna run the same system.
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: We were wrong. Yeah, we were wrong. Right, You and
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: I were wrong because we were both adamant that they're
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: just they're gonna tweak some things, but they're gonna tailor
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: it to Mac and do things that he likes to do.
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: But you know, maybe they'll throw some RPOs and and
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: then Kendrick Bohne basically said, no, we're changing things, and
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: then a lot of players during training camp admitted the
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: same thing. My question to Bill that I'll never get
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: the answer to, much like you'll never get the answer
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: to that you have question. My question is why did
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: you feel like you had to change the system? Yeah? Right?
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: Not not like why the Shanahan or are you running
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: the Shanahan? But you had this great offensive system that
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: worked flawlessly for over twenty years. Why did you feel
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: like it needed to be changed? Yeah? I have an
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: answer in my head. I'm just curious to see what
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: he would answer. My answer is that he didn't have
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: anybody to implement it. Yeah, but I'd like to see
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: what he would say to that. Mira writes in from Nigeria.
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: First of all, I want to give a shout out
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: to Nelson Aghaloor birthday boy, Josh Usher, Mike and when
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: you and all the other patriots of Nigerian descent would
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: love to see it. Here's my question. At one point
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: during Sunday's game, the commentators on CBS, who were horrendous
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: by the way, started talking up to Vante Parker and
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: asking each other why he wasn't getting more receptions. From
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: my perspective, he's not getting targeted because he's not getting results.
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: He's supposed to be the contested catch guy, but in
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: both weeks his big plays ended up in picks. Meanwhile,
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: Nelson Aghalore, j Kobe Myers and Kendrick Bourne are getting separation,
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: catching contested balls and converting first down. They weren't getting separation.
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: What am I missing contested balls? And what's gonna happen
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: to the depth chart when Tykwon Thornton comes off? I
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: R I mean, I still think Kendrick Bourne's a candidate
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: to get moved, by the way. Remember I brought that
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: up last week and I said, I you know, all
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: of a sudden, you could see him explode this week,
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: and then we'll just say, well, you know, Paul was
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: missed that one interesting. Other than that, I just want
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: to say I love the show and I tune in
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: every week. Fred, please don't retire yet. I have the
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: sneaky feeling you're trying to hand the reins over to Deuce.
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: Don't go till we get another championship. I'm just gonna say,
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: I gotta find somebody who likes Brady. He's like there
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: was a subtletude to that last part. Don't go until
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: we get another championship. Like you know most content producers
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: that you know, I can't go out like this. I
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: gotta get another title. You're twenty thirty five. I just
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: to go back to Parkers, so many, so much wondering
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: on him. It's just again, I think he's just they
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: have a very specific thing they like to do with him,
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: and I think they view it as their well as
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: Like we know we got him with contested catches. We
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: can put it up to him, this is what we can.
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: This can be a feature of our offense this year.
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: And when that play isn't there, then they don't really
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: do it. But I don't think that they're he's not producing.
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: I think that they're continuing to kind of target him
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: with these things in spite of what he does or
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: does not produce. I just think they if they're going
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: to use him, they need to figure out a way
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: to get him more involved in the conventional offense and
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: not just make him a shot guy or you know,
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: or at some point we're going to see that little
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: slant again. I'm sure. I like to get back to
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: those slants. I think those were pretty productive in camp
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: and the preseason. Position himself. He was open the preseason.
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: One they missed him and one he caught. But I
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: thought the two plays, like again, the two plays they
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: did target him on Sunday, he was open. Yeah, one
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: was down the field we talked about. The other one
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: was a back shoulder on the sideline that either he
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: was wrong for not coming back the timing wise or
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: the throw was short one of the two. My guess
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: is that Parker was a little off on his timing,
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: but that was there. The back shoulder play was there
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: on that do you know the one I'm talking about
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: right on the left side line. Yeah, And it's also
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: I think a departure for them is I think in
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: the past, you've seen this role kind of by a
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: speed guy. You've seen like Brandon Cooks, or you've seen
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: a galore last year, and so you know, I think
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: to that regard, they're still trying to figure out how
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: to make it work too. Is it's an outside guy
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: with not a lot of speed. Colby writes in I
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: hate to admit it because I was excited when we
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: drafted him, and I was impressed with his play as
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: a rookie. But I don't think Mac is the guy.
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: His arm strength is terrible, and I don't see it
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: getting any better in the future. I think the weak
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: arm and the lack of athleticism is holding him back
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: and ultimately holding the offense back. Do you agree. If not,
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: why I don't agree. I mean, I don't agree that
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: that hist lack of athleticism is holding him back. I've
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: never I don't remember a play where oh, if he
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: was only more athletic, this would have been better. I mean,
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: the arm strength stuff, I think he could work around it.
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: For me, it's just if he can't do what he
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: was good at last year, then that's where I have
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: a problem. And if it's the bad decisions and misreads
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: and those kind of things, like if you can't do
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: what you're supposed to be good at, then that's when
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: I have a problem. But I think the arm strength, athleticism,
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: those are things he could work around if he was
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: playing within the system and finding the right guys and
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: making good decisions. I think there's a lot in his
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: head right now, and I think he needs to continue
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: just to lock in. And I think he's limited. I mean,
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: I think that guy's strong, like I don't feel like
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: the way the emailer does like he's done. But I
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: do think the athleticism holds him back. I think Fred,
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: the way you said it earlier in the show about
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: you know, he can get on that back foot and
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: bang the balls out. Everything is. When everything is right,
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: there's no problems with his athleticism. To me, there are
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: too many plays in the NFL that need to be
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: made differently. I don't think he can consistently do that.
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: I'm not telling you he's never done it. He did
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: it a couple of times Sunday. He scrambled around once
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: on Sunday, really bought himself a lot of extra time.
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: And I think he hit Myers on the again, the
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: same left sideline in front of the Patriots bay Like,
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: really good play buying time. Those are few and far between.
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: I think in the NFL today you need to find
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: a way to get a guy who can If he
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: can't make yards with his legs, he can buy time
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: and make throws off platform and and I don't think
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: his arm strength allows him to do it. I just
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: and that's athleticism to me. Colby says, also, I'll be
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: at the Packers game. What should I do in Green Bay?
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: And where can I join a Patriots tailgate drink? Well?
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: Go go to Facebook the Patriots Tailgate page hand by
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: Barry Inc. And if there is anything going on in
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: Green Bay, you know, it's usually posted on that page.
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: So it's on Facebook, it's called Patriots Tailgate page, and
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: people go on and they post, you know, the events
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: that they're going to be organizing. I haven't heard anything
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: big for Green Bay yet, but you know anything in
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: twenty fourteen going on there? When you guys were there
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: twenty fourteen, Um, not that I recall before the San
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: Diego trip, Yeah I wasn't there. Yeah, No, I'm sure
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: there'll be something. I was there otherwise, that's a great thing.
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: Just show up with the Patriots Jersey wander on the
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: parking lot. You'll find some friends. I was there when
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: the game that Brett Farve didn't play, is that oh six? Yeah,
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: I think we shot him out of that was Aaron Rodgers. No, no, oh,
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: it might have been. It might have been Aaron Rodgers.
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: But it was like before he ever played. Oh of course, Yeah,
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: he hadn't started a game. Yeah, you might be you
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: might have It was like thirty five, nothing like Brett
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: Farve like, it was like typical, like Brett father plays
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: like nine million games in a row. He started that game,
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: played like a series and then came out and Rodgers
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: came in. Yeah, you might be right. It might have
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: been Rogers that came in. I'm pretty sure about it.
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: But that's the only time I think I was at Lambau. Yeah,
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: it's changed since then. Whenever year that was, they renovated
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: a little bit. Um alex and Raleigh writes in uh
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: big fan of the show. I think the offense is
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: in trouble right now, and the Patriots could be staring
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: at one in three after the first four games if
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: they don't evolve the offense and play quicker and push
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: the ball down the field. I think Mac is capable
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: enough to turn this season around, given he had a
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: solid first year, but he needs to make a year
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: or two jump in order to do so. I think
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: when the team is able to get back on track,
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: they will play good outside of the division. However, I
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: think we drop four division losses, two to Buffalo, two
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: to Miami, and the slow start we see happening right
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: now is going to keep us out of the playoffs. Hypothetically,
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: what if Mac doesn't turn it around and we struggle
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: the rest of the season. Do the Patriots end up
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: with a top pick in twenty twenty three who can
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: lead the team if we move away from Mac next year?
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: C J. Straub, Bryce Young free agent. Oh man, man boy.
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: People are really they're really hedging them early here. But
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: I also like how he's like, you know this slow
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: start that we're in right now, Well, they're one in
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: one right now. They're not in a slow start. Like
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: if they lose the next two, yeah, you're one in three.
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: That's a slow start. They overcame it last year. Did
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: you look that up? Mac? Alright? I couldn't find you
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: can't find some media guy. You go, you go to
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: throw me the media guy. Oh, I was looking in
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: the record book. It's in the media the record book.
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: I grabbed the wrong book. No records were much like
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: Patriots fans. Duce thinks the NFL record book just has
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: Patriots stuff. Well, it used to be that way. It
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: used to be the Patriots record book, and then they
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: had to you know. That's mean. So yeah, Green Bay
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: and oh six, thirty five nothing, that's the game. I
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: was thinking of, Yeah, um, oh six, would Rogers have
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: been there? Yeah? Right, yeah, oh five he was drafted
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: I think ye, or it might have been oh six,
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: but thirty five nothing, that's the game. I was thinking
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: of Mikes and Vermont one. What's up my puzzle? Do
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: you have a puzzled book? How are you guys? Good?
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: Thanks for taking McCall um. I have a two part question,
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: um time. The first one is, uh, the tight end position,
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: you know, two tight ends U. It just seems, you know,
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: we heard a lot about that, and uh, every every
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: once in a while for a viewers perspective, it's like
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: the people are just they just disappear. And I just
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: wondered if you could touch upon that. And the second
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: part of the question is JJ Taylor. You know, when
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: we've seen him play sometimes see he seems like he's
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: he's been involved, and I'm surprised that, you know, he's
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: been kind of taken away. I know Montgomery's heart, but
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: I was just wondering on those two issues, if you could,
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: if he could touch upon it, and that would be great.
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: Thank you, tight end and J J. Taylor. I think
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: the ship is sailed with J J. Taylor. I mean,
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: if he was going to be active last week probably
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: would have been the week. I mean, he couldn't get
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: back in the lineup last year. I just I think
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: he's act squad. I don't worry about j J. Taylor.
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: He's not gonna make an I was just last week saying, hey,
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: maybe they can give him a chance because if he's
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: active this week, if they raised him from the practice squad.
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: But I don't don't think they see, like, let's get
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: him involved and we'll start there. I think he's like
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: break glass now the tight end. Eventually, you got to
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: get these tight ends involved. They have to produce, you know, um,
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: I think every offense in the NFL, at one point
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: in a game. You know, your tight end becomes a factor, right,
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: Like if you're if you're producing big, then I don't care.
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: But when you're scoring seven and seventeen points, you probably
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: got to find a way to get some other guys involved.
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: I agree with Fred yep, you know, and it's there.
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: There's such an outlet for quarterbacks, you know, the whole
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: old saying at tight end as a quarterback's best friend. Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: I mean the overall production last week didn't didn't bother
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: me that much. But I mean, I think Henry continues
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: to be a guy that you know you need to
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: rely on in the red zone and you know, get him,
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: get him targeted down there. That's a good point too.
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: They haven't been in the red zone, yeah, so maybe
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: you would see a lot more Henry if they were
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: in the red zone more often. I think they've been
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: in the red zone three times in the two games. Yeah,
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: and one of those they took over at the ten
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: yard line and just randed three times into the end zone.
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: And again felt some optimism about John who coming into
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: this year, and through a couple of games, it just
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: seems kind kind of similar. I think, as Paul says,
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: it just never never looks smooth or comfortable. It's just
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: it always feels like a battle. I've given up on
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: that one. Mike's and Winchester Virginia. I had the chance
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: to go to the pit game this weekend. Decided to
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: go despite the fact that I believe we would lose.
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: Didn't think we played all that well overall, but did
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: execute well when it mattered. Thought Matt tried to give
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: the game away a few times and have no idea
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: what we're getting out of Parker so a few times
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: where he lined up and had his hands in the
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: air as if to say, I don't know what's going on.
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: Yeah that was early, Yeah, yeah, I saw that. It
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: did feel like the passing game got back to some
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: of its roots, with a lot more passes underneath and
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: between the numbers compared to what I remember from last week.
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: A good sign if you ask me. Thought we were
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: able to run the ball with more results this week too.
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: Decent game to build off of, but I have little
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: hope of anything good coming out of next week's game.
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: Verse an angry Baltimore team. Highlight of the day was
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: walking back to the car and passing the gates where
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: people were waiting for players to come out, and seeing
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: none other than boss man Fred kerch Fred, I yelled
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: your name a few times and saw you look over,
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: very confused as to who would be yelling your name.
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: It's almost like I was there to a few people
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: around me asked who that was, and I said, none
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: other than the creator and host of the longest running
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: podcasts in the history of the world. People were very
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: disrespectfully unamused. I haven't missed the show in ten years.
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: Love what you guys do. Keep up the great work.
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: I did hear him? Well, I heard somebody say I
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: thought they said my name, and I looked over and
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: didn't see anyone in the Patriots Jersey. Maybe I just
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: didn't catch you, But like so, I just kept walking.
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: The confused look. I can totally envision. Yeah. So, anyway,
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: he says, he said he's some speed New Jersey. I
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: thought it might be South Brunswere he says, Saddlebrook. So
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: that's the saddle Brook I know what, sure, yea, all right,
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: so he's now in Winchester, Virginia. But yeah, I heard him.
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: Thanks for yelling at me. Cool. Yeah, I know. We
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: were we were looking for our bus, which was tucked
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: way in the back. There's a whole bus thing going on. Yeah,
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: what's going on? See I have done so out of
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: the loop Freddy. Well, you know like when we started, Paul,
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: there were four buses correct, right, and we were on
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: bus four, yes, not to be not to be mixing
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: in with the right the privileged folk, and there were
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: like some equipment people with us and doctors and everything.
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: Now that got expanded to five buses, right, And when
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: there's marketing trip, there's six buses. Well we've been now
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: kicked off of bus five. So we were on bus
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: six with marketing, and marketing wanted all their people sitting together,
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: so we were asked to sit in the back of
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: bus six. And you know there's a whole there's a
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: whole thing going on, so the in the last So
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: now because these marketing trips aren't getting any smaller, we
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: might even have seven buses. I mean, like, how many
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: buses do we need? We used to have four buses
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: and it was fun. Do we take that many more people?
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: Football wise? I understand the marketing thing is that's the question,
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: that's that's odds. So there's five full buses of football personnel, Yes, yeah,
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: that's PR. Pr sits with them still. But that's interesting. Yeah,
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: so football used football used to sit with us, so Bob,
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: I mean PR used to sit with us. Bob soci
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: wasn't happy about it, Zolak. You know a couple of
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: I said that. I said, listen, we're all going on.
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: It doesn't matter. But you know, it's a principal thing.
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: Now now we're on the back of the last bus.
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: It is, Yeah, it is. It's just nowhere left to go.
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: I mean, the bathroom of the last bus so removed.
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: I haven't. I haven't chased a bus and a lot
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: like because even I can't remember the last trip I
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: took with the team that wasn't Super Bowl related. Yeah,
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: so yeah, this' it's like, you know, I could care
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: less as long as I get my loggage and I don't.
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: We're all going to the same place. I don't care
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: if I'm last off the bus or for it doesn't
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: really matter. But for some people it matters. It's like
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: it's just like when you take a regular flight somewhere
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: and as soon as the wheels stop, Oh there's always
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: that one guy. Oh yeah that is up. The overhead
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: is open. Bag just standing there waiting. Yeah, wait, and
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: you just sit there and wait. You sit there, Maybe
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: you get your phone out, get off airplane mode where
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: you check your message. That's my favorite part of the
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: plane landing. And then you flip the phone on and
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: then get all the messages. I love that part. Yeah.
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: How about muting your phone so that we're nine you know,
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: it's like okay, or the people get it. You're popular,
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: you know, you get a lot of messages. Hello, I
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: just landed. We're going to the gate, right the gate.
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: I have to I check my bag, baggage Clint right right,
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: Oh my god. Rode from Saint Louis writes in web
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: radio at pagris dot com, says I'll be driving next week.
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: During the first half of the game, was wondering how
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: to listen to it. I tried testing it out this
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: past Sunday in various ways, and the Patriots app wasn't
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: able to find Associate and Zola. The ninety eight point
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: five page had two guys just talking about all the
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: games in the radio page were just replaying the pregame show.
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: I don't have serious XM, so I can't listen to
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: the game on that is it a market thing, and
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: I have to sign up for NFL Plus. Yeah, you're
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: from Saint Louis. You can't listen to the even the radio.
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: So but if you do sign up for NFL Plus,
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: I think they got some thing going on, so some trials,
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: so at least with the audio with their call, you'll
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: be able to listen to it. Yeah, I'm glad we
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: got that email. Do you remember a couple of weeks
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: ago when someone was saying, why doesn't the NFL allow
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: out of market people to watch the games? And I
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: sort of said, well they do. There's there's things that
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: you can buy, right, you know, like the Sunday ticket
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: or whatever. I know, there's been all kinds of issues
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: from a technical standpoint with direct TV, I guess, or
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: just based on Twitter, people have been complaining about the service. Yeah,
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: but they have the ability to pay for it. Yes,
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: well we did. We got an email and someone's like,
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: you know, taking me to task for it. I mean,
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: I think sort of in I mean it said what
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: all due respect? So I took it that way. I
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: took him that. He wasn't like, you know, chastising me,
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: but he was like, you you've lived in the market
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: all your life. You have no idea what hout to
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: market people go through and was talking about how expensive
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: it is to which you know, I include this in
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: the mail bag this week because that's not exactly true. Like, yes,
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: you and I Fred were in the market in our
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: sort of you know, childhood years and through our teens
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: and whatever, and what happened in the market. When you
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: try to watch Patriots game, say in nineteen eighty four,
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: you couldn't if it was home, you couldn't watch it
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: right because it was blacked out right Hampshire. I would
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: have killed for something to buy, you know. Of course
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: I wouldn't have paid for My parents would have. But no,
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: like we would sit around and like should we go
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: up to to Auntie Genie and Uncle John's just you know,
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: just watch the game because they were out of market,
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: they were up in the Hampshire. You know. I couldn't
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: go to a bar, you know, I was too young,
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: Like I had no avenue to watch the game. I
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: would have loved to have had a direct TV option,
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: you know, whether we would have gotten it or not.
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: And I understand it's a lot of money. Not everybody
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: has the money to do those things, but at least
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: there was options to do it. Now there were no
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: options then. Now you had to sell out the game,
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: and that's not in your control. Yeah, you know. And
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: literally we went years where like the Miami game was
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: the only game that would be on the home The
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: whole Miami game would be a sellout and that would
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: be it. Yeah. So a lot of Giants games back
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: in the day too, Right, nineteen ninety the last game
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: of the year and it was all Giants fans and
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: that game was on TV. Jason Strowski missed a field
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: goal last play of the game. Well, thank god they
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: didn't have direct TV. When Paul was a kid, we
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: never been outside. He'd be inside all day. It'd be MLB,
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: NFL and he'd never leave the couch back in those days.
- 1:34:59Speaker 1: You're right, because I I really liked baseball as a kid.
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: You know when when baseball games used to take like
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: two hours and twenty minutes. Yeah, well, next year they
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: might it's not going to pitch clock, did they really?
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: They said that they tried it with minor league and
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: to cut twenty minutes off average each game. Yeah, it's
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: not going to be that big of a difference for
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: the major leagues now because there's still like these like
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: ten pitch at bats and you know you gotta take
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: you gotta take the first seven pitches. And you know
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: why why was it Why was it so much shorter
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: back that, because guys got the ball and threw it pitch,
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: simple as that. The idea was to pitch to contact.
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: Now the idea is to strike every batter out, and
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: the idea for the batter is to work the pitch
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: count as high as you can get it and get
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: that guy out of the game. And back you know
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: it was you know, everybody got up, they got in
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: the box and they swung the bat if it was
- 1:35:47Speaker 1: a strike and put the ball in play. Um, the
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: relief pitching was not a specialization like say in the seventies.
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: I mean they were relievers, you know, Raleigh Fingers and
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: Mike guys like that. But but your starters consistently went
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: because right now, an average game now each team is
- 1:36:04Speaker 1: using five or six pitchers, just average, Like that's not
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: like out of the out of the norm by any means.
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: You know, complete games. Yeah, it used to be three maths.
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: You got a complete game now, and it leads the
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: lead Sports Center, the middle reliever and the closer, and
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: that's pretty much. And the middle reliever only pitched if
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: the starter got got racked right. Otherwise you just basically
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: looking Otherwise you went from start of the closer and
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: you didn't have closes When I was a kid, like
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: it was just you know, were there more complete games?
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: Oh god, yeah, yeah, yeah, god, yeah yeah. Sliman in
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: the Bay Area, Cold Strange had a great game against
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: Cameron Hayward, not taking anything away from him. Some pendants
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: are saying this could be a start of vindication for
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: Belichick drafting a guard from you Tea Chattanooga. I know
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: I spelt this wrong, but have work, have to work
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: out of hurry. I didn't see it as validation. I
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: still feel they could have gotten Strange and a later
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: round and taken another player around one. Also, did I
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: hear this right on the broadcast at Patriots considered moving
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: up in round one to take Strange? If so, yikes, Anyway,
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: happy for the win. Just wanted to get your thoughts
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: on Strange so far. Listen, it would be a bigger
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: story if they drafted a guard in the first round
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: and he wasn't good. You know, that was the point
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: I think people said, it's not like they didn't let
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: that question it about ten or twelve weeks. No, But
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: I know I've seen signs of both, I know. But
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: it's not like people didn't like Cole Strange or didn't
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: think he could be good. I think the main thing
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: was you can get him later, yeah, you know, and
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: then you're even smarter now and Cole Strange. Isn't that
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: the Patriots move, you know, to get a guy they
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: liked as a first rounder in the fourth round. Yeah.
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: So I think there were a lot of things going
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: on this year in that draft room. Um. I think
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: guys that they really wanted went earlier. I think there
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: were trades that they liked to have made that they
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: couldn't know they couldn't get a partner. And I think
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: they went with the safe bet, the safe bet, and
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: that's and and the need they needed a guard, go
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: with the need they needed the guard. So I will
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: be shocked if he doesn't have a If he plays
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: more games like he did the opener, that's nothing safe
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: about that, I know. But he's gonna get better. I'll
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: be shocked if he doesn't have a long and effective
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: career in the NFL. Maybe not all with the Patriots,
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: but he'll be in the NFL for ten years and
- 1:38:20Speaker 1: have a good career. Yeah, I just hope he's he's
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: above average. I hope he's good, you know, like worth
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: a first round pick. If you're gonna take a guard,
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: like he needs to be like a plus guard, you know,
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: and that right like that, like those are guys there
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: are certain like a handful of guards that probably like
- 1:38:36Speaker 1: Paul just named Quentin Nelson being probably the premier guy
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: that you can name. That's like he affects the complexion
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: of your offense. And you know, I like Colstrane. He's
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: a really nice kid. I mean, he's really athletic. I
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: can get on many levels why they took him, but
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: I still can't shake the feeling of this is year
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: one of we're going to rebuild our offense. Could there
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: have been another piece that maybe you could have taken
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: that would have more of an impact than a guard
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: would no offense the guards out there, but you know,
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: and I like that they got Thornton, but it's just
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: I would have liked to have seen, you know, maybe
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: maybe a little bit more of an impactful position, even
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: if it was just tackle. I know that there probably
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: wasn't really a tackle available at that point, but that's
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: my fault, and I gotta tell you just based on
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: some early indications, some of those tackles haven't looked great.
- 1:39:22Speaker 1: Like that from Carolina looked terrible. Yeah, the one from
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: NC State Rayman can't get in right Sean and Hazelton Pennsylvania.
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: I'm not seeing such hate for a Patriots quarterback by
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: the drive by media since Tony Easton or Drew Blitzer
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: in the beginning of ninety six by the media till
- 1:39:43Speaker 1: he shut up the media with Pro Bowl season by
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: the media. By the media, you think just hate from
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: the You're in the wrong market. You gotta get to Boston.
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: Let's give Maiest. Let's give mac a chance. He has
- 1:39:55Speaker 1: Bluto coaching him. I don't want to hear who we
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: are going to replace him with neck next year. Give
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: the guy a shot. He is not Tom Brady. Nobody
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: will be Tom Brady. Just enjoy the season week to
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: week and let the chips fall where they may not.
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: A Lamar fan, by the way, I hope Belichick has
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: a good game plan for this fraud. He doesn't need
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: a good game right right, That's the prototypical patriot fan.
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: All all the mac hate on this show is emanated
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: from listeners, the emails that you're reading. Yeah, I would
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: say that I do question his athleticism, but not his
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: ability to be the starter. I don't question that at all. Well,
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: who was it yesterday? Oh you're a guy Joe Murray, Yeah,
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: he started it yesterday morning. Okay, But I'm just telling
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: you as us in the media as a rule here
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: I think is it? I was going to say, is
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: as a rule around here? Mike, you have to back
- 1:40:52Speaker 1: this up. It's because you're kind of starting to turn
- 1:40:56Speaker 1: a little. That's why I say it. It's almost all
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: this guy's the guy that they're doing him with a
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: service that you gotta get them some weapons they got
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: they put them with these two bozos judge in Patricia.
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: It's all a lot of that. I mean, it's not
- 1:41:14Speaker 1: would you say it's over ninety percent of the analysis
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: is all about how they're setting this guy up. Well,
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: it's it's we're not going to be able to fairly
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: judge him because of the situation. But everybody thinks he's great.
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: He's on the he's only the precipice of of a
- 1:41:27Speaker 1: great ten year career. I don't know about that. I
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: think people don't know in they're saying. Charles Davis said
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: it during the broadcast the other day. Well, he's not
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: on in our market. No, But I'm just saying that's
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: the media. Yeah. The media perception of mac Jones is
- 1:41:41Speaker 1: pro bowler last year. Yea, even though I don't know
- 1:41:44Speaker 1: if you know about Josh Allen wasn't a pro bowler
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: last year. Yeah. To me, the media is Mike Race
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: your guy, but Ard, Tom Curran and um yeah you
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: know the touchdown twins, you know, yeah right, yeah, I
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: mean I but I would even say the guys on
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: the radio, the regulars on the radio, Beatleszo, Tony, Mike,
- 1:42:08Speaker 1: um Fourier and the regulars, that's the media. They talked
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: every day about the teams, yeah, you know, and the
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: vast Again, when I say almost all, I don't mean
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: every time. I'm not telling you that there's not one
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: guy out there who doesn't think he's the guy. But
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: if you listen to Mark Daniels and Jeff Howe and
- 1:42:27Speaker 1: you know, Mike Reeve and Phil Perry, Tom, they all
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: think that Mac Jones is fine, like he's He's not
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: the problem with the offense. There's not a lot of
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: they got to get rid of Mac Jones talk in
- 1:42:38Speaker 1: New y O him on his batsonsible. I agree, and
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: that's why that's what I'm kind of defending the media,
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: which I never do because I think we're a bunch
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: of bozos. We I said, we are a bunch of bozos.
- 1:42:53Speaker 1: I don't think there's been a lot, if any they
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: got to get rid of this cud. I think you're
- 1:42:57Speaker 1: gonna see with Patriots fans as guys like Lamar Jackson
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: and Jalen Hurts and Borrow and Josh all these great quarterbacks.
- 1:43:06Speaker 1: Now Herbert put up numbers and we're like, you know,
- 1:43:09Speaker 1: happy with three hundred and fifty yards of offense, you know,
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: one hundred and fifty of which was on the ground.
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: You know, it's gonna be jealousy. I'd be happy with
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: that if they could do that, right, they can't. It's
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: gonna be right now, it's gonna be jealousy. Where like
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: we want that, you know, like and for twenty years
- 1:43:26Speaker 1: we had that. Oh yeah, you know, you know, like
- 1:43:29Speaker 1: if they ran the ball in the first two games
- 1:43:31Speaker 1: the way they did the last drive, I wouldn't care. Yeah,
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: like I would take that. But like for seven and
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: a half quarters, they really didn't run the ball that
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: well either. Yeah, but the last six minutes they drove
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: it right down Pittsburgh's throat. I think just the remaining
- 1:43:43Speaker 1: schedules why I can't get that worked up, because like
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: you're gonna you're gonna find out, you're gonna get to
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: see all these great teams that you have to go
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: up against. Yeah, and then you'll know as much as
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: I want to starting, I mean, is it too early
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: to say the schedule starting stingoffing up a little bit.
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: Colts doesn't look quite as bad, Browns doesn't look as bad. Well,
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: Rounds always had that thing because you knew you weren't
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: going to see Deshaun Watson. But like Arizona Arizona Jets,
- 1:44:06Speaker 1: you know, Minnesota still kind of looks like Minnesota. And
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: after last night, like Kirk Cousins Prime Time, did you
- 1:44:12Speaker 1: see that one play with Kyler Murray where he ran
- 1:44:14Speaker 1: around and scored the touchdown. Somebody said it looked like
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: a kid who just stole his parents' cell phone and
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: he's running around with the cell phone. You happen to
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: see the end of that game, the scooping score in overtime.
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: That's how Arizona one. Did you see that? I don't
- 1:44:27Speaker 1: know if I did. So. The Raiders had the ball
- 1:44:30Speaker 1: and they were in field goal range. Hunter renfro fumbled
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: um and Byron Murphy picked it up and ran it
- 1:44:35Speaker 1: back like sixty yards or so for a touchdown. And
- 1:44:38Speaker 1: he was one of those he's running, you know, and
- 1:44:40Speaker 1: at right as he gets to the goal line, he
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: just throws the ball. Yeah, I mean, and you needed
- 1:44:47Speaker 1: you needed to Bill Belichick bake sale camera on the
- 1:44:49Speaker 1: goal line that he always used to cross. Yeah. They
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: reviewed it for a long time. Well, Agalore, even him
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: was in. He was in. But still can we wait?
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: We said it, can you wait till you hit the
- 1:45:02Speaker 1: ground before you throw it out there? It party actually
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: said something to him, he was our guest on the post.
- 1:45:10Speaker 1: Yeah what did he say? What did ALKALOI say? I
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: knew I was there. Sorry, Sorry, he was very Uh.
- 1:45:16Speaker 1: I'll bet you he I bet you. Bill talked to
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: him about it too, you know. But to play with
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: Byron Murphy. They reviewed, They actually went to review for
- 1:45:25Speaker 1: a long time. Now. The angles they showed on CBS
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: you could never see it. I'm assuming that they had
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: something that at least showed it. Yeah, I think that
- 1:45:35Speaker 1: if he was if he broke the plane of the
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: goal line, he broke it as he went back to
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: throw the ball, and as it was thrown forward, he
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: probably broke Like that's how close it was. Wow, excited
- 1:45:46Speaker 1: And just think about that. If he pulled up to
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: Shawn Jackson right and he threw that before he got
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: in the end zone, that's a safety rights. That's that's
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: a classic Paul right there, breaking down the game situation.
- 1:46:00Speaker 1: You know, like exactly who could have happened? It would
- 1:46:02Speaker 1: even occurred to me, but that would have been oh no,
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: because he just threw it out like he threw it
- 1:46:05Speaker 1: out of the end zone like you would have. But no,
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: the safety you would have been the game right right,
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: like any points ended the game. Yes. The confusion on
- 1:46:13Speaker 1: the sideline is they're like, no, he didn't get any
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: threw it out? What Oh? And when I tell you,
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: they probably reviewed it for a good three or four minutes,
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: like it wasn't one of those cursory you know, hold
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: on before you know, like yeah, oh on the two
- 1:46:27Speaker 1: point conversion play last week, yeah, um, I guess they
- 1:46:31Speaker 1: said his elbow just touched the green before clearly Deante Johnson.
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: They had a great they had a great replay on
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: CBS okay, because yeah, I mean I couldn't tell whether
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: like I thought his elbow might have been out, but
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: his thigh might have been in, and like which hit first?
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: First first look, I was like, I bet you they're
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: going to review this, yeh, because it was close. Then
- 1:46:51Speaker 1: they showed a replay his elbow was like they had
- 1:46:54Speaker 1: it was a good look review and like people in
- 1:46:56Speaker 1: the press bottle, that's so funny they just showed the
- 1:46:58Speaker 1: Elson Agalore because people in the press box like did
- 1:47:01Speaker 1: they review that they should have and like because they
- 1:47:03Speaker 1: really fat they reviewed it, And yeah, I saw the patriots,
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: you know, speaking of the patriots, the negative patriots media
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: like six guys well like that that should be overturned.
- 1:47:12Speaker 1: That should be overturned. And Mike and I are like,
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: did they not see the replays that the same replays
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: they're showing us, because you could clear like I'm not
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: telling you he was in by eight feet, but there
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: was a view that they showed that he clearly had
- 1:47:24Speaker 1: green in between his elbow and the sidelines soon as
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: you see that, it's right right? Uh back to the
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: Ace ticket houtline. Todd's in North Carolina. Hey, Todd, Yeah,
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: that's great. Sure, thanks. I just have a minor request,
- 1:47:37Speaker 1: and this is for Fred. You think you could get
- 1:47:39Speaker 1: Evan on with the John Rookster maybe more than just
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: once a week because those guys are great together and
- 1:47:45Speaker 1: I really liked their analysis and their talk and they
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: seem to be having some pretty good chemistry. Yeah, John
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: rookieson once a week and Evan was with him, so, um,
- 1:47:53Speaker 1: well could you do it more than once? Is what
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: I'm asking now? Okay, well that was a but Evan
- 1:48:01Speaker 1: will be on this show. You can also ask him
- 1:48:03Speaker 1: questions on this show. Yeah, so is he gonna be
- 1:48:06Speaker 1: on tomorrow? Dudes? You know it's on every week. It's
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: been on every week with us since. You know. I
- 1:48:11Speaker 1: had some questions for him too, you know, so he's
- 1:48:15Speaker 1: our guy, like you know, should have more con but
- 1:48:19Speaker 1: like he's our guy, Like you know, are my eyes right?
- 1:48:22Speaker 1: You know? What did you see? Because he looks he
- 1:48:24Speaker 1: watched the game like four or five times. So if yeah,
- 1:48:28Speaker 1: in all seriousness, if someone told you that's what you
- 1:48:31Speaker 1: saw was wrong, you would say you that you were wrong. No,
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: it's like, hey, it looked like to me Cole Strange
- 1:48:36Speaker 1: had a good game, for example, and then like upon
- 1:48:39Speaker 1: further review, he could say yeah, that was right he
- 1:48:42Speaker 1: did or it wasn't as good as you thought it was.
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: There were a lot of you know, like those kind
- 1:48:47Speaker 1: of things because it's hard to watch every guy and
- 1:48:49Speaker 1: every play. Yeah that I mean, that's a very specific thing.
- 1:48:52Speaker 1: You have to watch the game over and over. But
- 1:48:54Speaker 1: if you thought a guy had a good game, then
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: you watched him well from what you saw, he did well.
- 1:48:59Speaker 1: But you know, you not keying on cold Strange every play.
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: I want you to have more confidence in yourself. I'll
- 1:49:04Speaker 1: be quiet. You saw what you just don't like the
- 1:49:07Speaker 1: all twenty two guys col Strange, all twenty two guys
- 1:49:11Speaker 1: don't want to be or you know, there's that big
- 1:49:14Speaker 1: debate at the end, you know, like where some people saying,
- 1:49:17Speaker 1: oh they're you know, I think South Palestoni. You'll start
- 1:49:19Speaker 1: at it. It's like, oh, they're running all these zones,
- 1:49:21Speaker 1: you know, the wide zone runs, and people said no
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: they weren't, you know, so like which is it? You know? Yeah,
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: I mean, but they don't know, is what I would
- 1:49:31Speaker 1: tell you. No, I think you can tell if it's
- 1:49:33Speaker 1: a if it's a zone run, you really can. You
- 1:49:35Speaker 1: know it's got that look to it. I know what
- 1:49:38Speaker 1: some of them look like, but not all of them. Yeah,
- 1:49:41Speaker 1: it's hard. I mean it's hard. I think you can
- 1:49:43Speaker 1: you definitely like Look, I like watching the All twenty
- 1:49:45Speaker 1: two just because it shows you everything and I feel
- 1:49:48Speaker 1: like you actually see what happened without all the camera cuts,
- 1:49:51Speaker 1: and it's just each play and there it is, and
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: you can look wherever you want and you see exactly
- 1:49:54Speaker 1: how the coverage is. I mean, I I just enjoy it.
- 1:49:56Speaker 1: I don't try to write up a whole thing and
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: try to explain it in coach speak. But I feel
- 1:50:01Speaker 1: like I really see the game better when I actually
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: get to watch it, which unfortunately is you know, not
- 1:50:05Speaker 1: until Tuesday night. But but there's always that level of
- 1:50:09Speaker 1: the coaches know what they're looking for and they know
- 1:50:11Speaker 1: exactly what should have happened that you never can't quite
- 1:50:14Speaker 1: cross that line. So I do think you can get
- 1:50:16Speaker 1: up to that line and know a lot, but there's
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: always gonna be a one line that you don't know.
- 1:50:20Speaker 1: How did you like the Patriots secondary attacked Pittsburgh this week,
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: would you think they did more often than not? I
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: mean I felt like they were in zone a lot
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: on early downs and then they played man on third downs. Yeah,
- 1:50:31Speaker 1: I agree. You should see the credit that some of
- 1:50:34Speaker 1: the defenders are getting for taking guys out of the game.
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: It's just like, this is what that's my point, like, watch, yeah,
- 1:50:43Speaker 1: just watch that's all. Like you watch it for you
- 1:50:46Speaker 1: like to watch it the second time to see whatever.
- 1:50:48Speaker 1: Like that's fine, Like you don't have to write like
- 1:50:51Speaker 1: a fifteen hundred word dissertation on the on the third
- 1:50:53Speaker 1: down and eight play. That's my problem with the All
- 1:50:56Speaker 1: twenty two. A lot of people's not that complicated. A
- 1:50:58Speaker 1: lot of people look at it goes, oh, you know, uh,
- 1:51:01Speaker 1: Trubisky only had you know, however many throws, you know, completions,
- 1:51:06Speaker 1: and well they might have just shut them down. But
- 1:51:08Speaker 1: like you said, dudes, if you're watching All twenty two,
- 1:51:11Speaker 1: were guys wide open. He just wissed him. You know,
- 1:51:13Speaker 1: I think they did. I'm not saying that Patriots didn't
- 1:51:15Speaker 1: shut them down. I'm talking about individuals were given credit
- 1:51:18Speaker 1: for shutting down, like Chase Claypool. Yeah, like Miles Bryant
- 1:51:21Speaker 1: completely dominated Chase Claypool was one of the things I
- 1:51:23Speaker 1: saw today. No, he was the one guy on their
- 1:51:25Speaker 1: team that was making catches at least early. Well, No,
- 1:51:28Speaker 1: he had a very quiet game Laypool. Yeah, he had
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: four catches for like twenty six yards. I know they
- 1:51:33Speaker 1: all came early, but I would I would just argue
- 1:51:35Speaker 1: that they don't have a very sophisticated passing game right now. Yeah,
- 1:51:39Speaker 1: I think they have a new quarterback who's getting to
- 1:51:42Speaker 1: know what they're doing, and it looks it. I mean,
- 1:51:44Speaker 1: I think, like to credit Miles Bryant for shutting down
- 1:51:49Speaker 1: Chase Claypool in that game, to me is kind of
- 1:51:51Speaker 1: missing the boot. Listen, when when you're talking about the
- 1:51:53Speaker 1: Patriots defense versus offense, it's fair to say, yeah, but
- 1:51:57Speaker 1: because you know Pittsburgh, it doesn't have a good offense
- 1:52:01Speaker 1: right now, let's see next week. You know. That's that's
- 1:52:05Speaker 1: the beauty of this thing. Every team, every team is different,
- 1:52:08Speaker 1: has a different personality, different players, different matchups, you know,
- 1:52:12Speaker 1: so we get to see something completely different next week. Yeah,
- 1:52:17Speaker 1: I mean, and that's why you got the win. But
- 1:52:18Speaker 1: it's still, you know, is that sense of there's an
- 1:52:21Speaker 1: A tier in the NFL, and I don't know if
- 1:52:23Speaker 1: the Patriots are going to be in that A tier
- 1:52:25Speaker 1: yet there you know, they could be a solid. I
- 1:52:27Speaker 1: don't know if they're in the B tier. Yeah, but
- 1:52:31Speaker 1: I don't think. I certainly don't put Pittsburgh in a
- 1:52:32Speaker 1: B tire and they were life and death to beat them.
- 1:52:36Speaker 1: I guess it depends on how many tiers we're talking.
- 1:52:38Speaker 1: We'll see, Yeah, masses tears. Anthony's in Toronto, what's up, Anthony? Hey? Hey?
- 1:52:46Speaker 1: Um So, if if the same situation happened, let's say
- 1:52:50Speaker 1: Scott forbid it happened on this coming Sundy against their evens,
- 1:52:53Speaker 1: what the forty nine ers had just happened with Trey
- 1:52:55Speaker 1: Lance going down, do you guys think if we had
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: a taught by a pick, would we go ahead and
- 1:53:00Speaker 1: you know, take a quarterback? I mean, I personally don't
- 1:53:02Speaker 1: think we should if we had a top five pick,
- 1:53:05Speaker 1: but I think if that's the way it happens, if
- 1:53:08Speaker 1: that's the way they get a top five pick because
- 1:53:11Speaker 1: Matt got hurt, then no, I wouldn't take a quarterback.
- 1:53:14Speaker 1: Oh and he's still got three more years of man.
- 1:53:15Speaker 1: If you want it, pick let's say let's say we
- 1:53:17Speaker 1: take a top five pick, we take a quarterback. Do
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: you think another team in the NFL would trade for Mac?
- 1:53:22Speaker 1: Would they give up a first round pick for him? No?
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: First round pick? No? I mean, I mean you can
- 1:53:27Speaker 1: never say never. But let's say the Patriots completely bottom out,
- 1:53:30Speaker 1: Matt gets hurt. You're one in sixteen and you have
- 1:53:33Speaker 1: the top pick, and you and one of these quarterbacks.
- 1:53:38Speaker 1: I don't think Bryce Young really is that good actually,
- 1:53:41Speaker 1: but one of these quarterbacks just just kills it this
- 1:53:44Speaker 1: year and he's clearly the next you know, Trevor Lawrence,
- 1:53:48Speaker 1: Joe Burrow who comes out of nowhere the last year.
- 1:53:51Speaker 1: I wouldn't rule it out. I mean I didn't say
- 1:53:53Speaker 1: it rule it out. I've said I answered what I
- 1:53:55Speaker 1: would do. If it's not Max's fault that you have
- 1:53:58Speaker 1: the top five pick, I wouldn't take a quarterback. Yeah,
- 1:54:02Speaker 1: I wouldn't. I try to say I wouldn't want to help. Yeah,
- 1:54:04Speaker 1: I wouldn't want to start over again. Ye. But if
- 1:54:07Speaker 1: you pick in the top five and Mac played every game,
- 1:54:10Speaker 1: now that's a decision, right, yeah, because now Mac didn't
- 1:54:13Speaker 1: play well yet. So do you think the four nines
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: are better off without without Land today. Yes, yes, I
- 1:54:21Speaker 1: don't think. I don't think there's any question will be
- 1:54:24Speaker 1: do you think they're playing going forward? Will be you know,
- 1:54:26Speaker 1: taking another quarterback? Well, they're probably not going to be
- 1:54:28Speaker 1: a five. You know, Garoppolo is actually better off with
- 1:54:30Speaker 1: that team. Um, but like, what do you think they
- 1:54:32Speaker 1: said to Ty Lance will be the quarterback next year? Really?
- 1:54:37Speaker 1: I actually don't think so. I think that's such a
- 1:54:39Speaker 1: risk for them. You're now going you know, you've had
- 1:54:41Speaker 1: this guy, and you're at any riskier. Won't know what
- 1:54:43Speaker 1: they did this year, They had a team that was
- 1:54:45Speaker 1: in the NFC Championship game and they said, Jimmy, thanks
- 1:54:48Speaker 1: for the service trays the quarterback. And I think they'll
- 1:54:51Speaker 1: do the same thing next year. I can't imagine they're
- 1:54:54Speaker 1: going to resign Garoppolo. No, I can't imagine Garoppolo would
- 1:54:56Speaker 1: want to resign with a team that's been so blatantly
- 1:54:59Speaker 1: just respectable to him. Right right now, he's got a
- 1:55:02Speaker 1: great chance. Trey Lance is going to be the quarterback
- 1:55:05Speaker 1: next year unless something funny happens. I can't imagine. But
- 1:55:09Speaker 1: it is Anthon, It's a great It's it's a great soap. Opera.
- 1:55:12Speaker 1: I wrote about that in the notes today. I mean,
- 1:55:15Speaker 1: a great soap opera. What do you do what if
- 1:55:16Speaker 1: he has what if Garoppolo has a great if Garpolo
- 1:55:19Speaker 1: was great again and you make a deep run into
- 1:55:22Speaker 1: the playoffs again and god forbid whin the super Bowl? Well,
- 1:55:25Speaker 1: I'm just saying you do combine that with the reaction
- 1:55:28Speaker 1: that he got from his teammates, like they are clearly
- 1:55:30Speaker 1: happy for him. Well you heard that him. Anthony's got it. Yeah,
- 1:55:35Speaker 1: I mean I actually brought that up as a possibility,
- 1:55:37Speaker 1: but Anthony's right like it. It's an unbelievable soap opera
- 1:55:40Speaker 1: that's like waiting to unfold. And it's not like you
- 1:55:44Speaker 1: need seven ridiculously stupid things to happen. For all it
- 1:55:47Speaker 1: needs to do is he continues to do what he's
- 1:55:49Speaker 1: been doing. Right, It's not like he hasn't done it before, right, Thanks, Anthony,
- 1:55:54Speaker 1: appreciate the car. I think you're right, Fred. I think
- 1:55:56Speaker 1: if he really ultimately had success, I think you do
- 1:56:00Speaker 1: everything in your power to trade Trey Lance. Yeah. Now
- 1:56:03Speaker 1: I don't think you get in the first round pick
- 1:56:05Speaker 1: for him either, Nope, because he hasn't played especially, how
- 1:56:08Speaker 1: do they really feel about him right now. That's what
- 1:56:10Speaker 1: I'd like to know. Was there some trepidation goal Well,
- 1:56:12Speaker 1: you know that the Jimmy G Sign, you know the
- 1:56:14Speaker 1: week one Fox pregame show that has Jay Glazier on it,
- 1:56:19Speaker 1: He had a long thing about in San Francisco, Shanahan
- 1:56:24Speaker 1: and I think Lynch might have been involved too, went
- 1:56:26Speaker 1: to the veterans like the Kittles and mcglinchey's and you
- 1:56:30Speaker 1: know all those guys Deebo and said, listen, this is
- 1:56:34Speaker 1: what we're doing. If we don't have success right away,
- 1:56:38Speaker 1: it can't be We need to make a change. You can't.
- 1:56:41Speaker 1: You know, we need to be all in. You need
- 1:56:43Speaker 1: to support this kid. We got to give him all
- 1:56:46Speaker 1: of the tools necessary to succeed, and we can't cut
- 1:56:50Speaker 1: bait with him. This is what we're doing. So if
- 1:56:52Speaker 1: they thought that much that they needed to have a conversation,
- 1:56:54Speaker 1: assuming that that's true, and I think Jay Glazier is
- 1:56:56Speaker 1: usually pretty tapped in with the players, if they thought
- 1:57:00Speaker 1: that much that they needed to have sort of an
- 1:57:02Speaker 1: intervention before it happened, And there's trepidation about Trey Lance, sure, Now,
- 1:57:06Speaker 1: I just think that he's a guy that coming from
- 1:57:09Speaker 1: a one double a school needs a little time, right.
- 1:57:12Speaker 1: I think his skill set his parents. I think you
- 1:57:14Speaker 1: watch him. He's got good size, good speed, good arm strength.
- 1:57:18Speaker 1: He's gonna need to learn the pro game. He just
- 1:57:21Speaker 1: hasn't played a lot of football though, too right. I
- 1:57:23Speaker 1: mean miss that this is going to be a killer,
- 1:57:26Speaker 1: because this is, you know, another year. A couple of
- 1:57:29Speaker 1: quick emails before we wrap it up. Matt's from Madison, Wisconsin.
- 1:57:32Speaker 1: He says to the fan going to Green Bay, he
- 1:57:34Speaker 1: should go to the stadium view bar. The New Titletown
- 1:57:37Speaker 1: district is really nice and he should just walk around
- 1:57:39Speaker 1: the tailgate village. But Paul is right. All you can
- 1:57:42Speaker 1: really do is drink and eat. There will be some
- 1:57:44Speaker 1: live music at and Doozy's most likely he might get
- 1:57:47Speaker 1: some grief for being a Patriots fan, but everyone is
- 1:57:50Speaker 1: very nice about it. They are I agree with that, ye.
- 1:57:53Speaker 1: And then um Alex writes in about Sunday ticket He's
- 1:57:57Speaker 1: in Englewood, New Jersey. He says, Alan, I'm a victim
- 1:58:00Speaker 1: of the awful Sunday ticket issues. It's been awful to
- 1:58:03Speaker 1: try and watch the Patriots because I get the first
- 1:58:05Speaker 1: quarter in the fourth quarter two weeks in a row.
- 1:58:08Speaker 1: They've been terribly frustrating, also horrible customer service off the soapbox.
- 1:58:13Speaker 1: I've been in meetings, so I missed the show. How
- 1:58:16Speaker 1: much do we fall credit Mac with what's going on
- 1:58:18Speaker 1: with the offense? I give him about seventy five to
- 1:58:20Speaker 1: eighty percent of the blame of just not putting receivers
- 1:58:23Speaker 1: in the best position. It's curious to your thoughts. Well,
- 1:58:25Speaker 1: you're gonna have to listen to the replay, all right,
- 1:58:29Speaker 1: So that's it for this. Well, we have a replay.
- 1:58:31Speaker 1: It's not like you missed it. Yes, right, We've talked
- 1:58:34Speaker 1: about Mac a lot too. Yeah, and we gotta go.
- 1:58:36Speaker 1: All right, so we'll be back tomorrow Wednesday with another
- 1:58:39Speaker 1: edition of Patriots Unfiltered. We'll talk to you then. Nothing
- 1:58:42Speaker 1: coming up? Right? Oh you know what? Before I go.
