- 1:12contains specific and it A very graphic and disturbing details
- 1:16of the case and may not be intended for all audiences.
- 1:22Familicide, family, Annihilation, familial homicide.
- 1:27All of these are different terms that describe the killing of
- 1:30one's own family, which all fit under the umbrella term of mass
- 1:33murder. How familicide is Quantified is
- 1:36quite complicated and it is often not agreed.
- 1:39Upon by law enforcement nor researchers.
- 1:42Some use familicide is a term to define the killing of family
- 1:45members which can Encompass a wide range of related offenses.
- 1:50These can include parents who kill their children, also known
- 1:53as filicide. It may also involve crimes were
- 1:55children call their parents, which is called parasite or may
- 1:59include any perpetrator within a family who takes the lives of
- 2:03another family member including that of the extended familial
- 2:07Circle. Familicide is very rare, but
- 2:12more than 50% of all mass murders within the u.s. involves
- 2:15the killing of one or more of their family members, take the
- 2:19Monstrous Twisted individual behind the Sandy Hook tragedy
- 2:23whose first killing that day, was the murder of his own
- 2:26mother. The media has barely focused on
- 2:29the suspect. This is understandable.
- 2:32Of course, given how he committed the most heartbreaking
- 2:34and senseless of crimes that day.
- 2:37But it is interesting to note that the crimes which unfolded
- 2:40that day began first within his own family, the definition of
- 2:44familicide and therefore the statistics are often met with
- 2:48obscurity and confusion and are often embedded within the
- 2:51hierarchy of other crimes. This makes the real number of
- 2:55familicide Acts very difficult to measure.
- 2:59In a study on familicide, conducted between 2000 and 2009.
- 3:03There were 629 incidents with 207 that involved, the murder of
- 3:09the spouse or intimate partner and at least one of the
- 3:12children, The high majority of the recorded acts of familicide
- 3:17are committed by the father, or a primary male figure of the
- 3:20family due to this fact studies on women who have committed
- 3:24familicide are very uncommon and thus, the literature is minimal.
- 3:28However, it is estimated that women comprises high as five
- 3:32percent of the perpetrators of familial homicide.
- 3:36Interestingly enough, women are over represented in the murder
- 3:39of family members. This means that female homicide
- 3:42offenders victims are predominantly their spouse.
- 3:45Or an intimate partner or exclusively their children,
- 3:49having their victims be both their partner and their kids is
- 3:51extremely rare and almost unheard of the case of Isabel
- 3:55Martinez is an exception to this rule.
- 3:59Loganville Georgia is a quiet, little town, with run fifteen
- 4:02thousand citizens, centrally located between the larger
- 4:05cities of Athens and the capital Atlanta.
- 4:08The town's official motto is quote unquote, where people
- 4:11matter, which signifies the importance of places on
- 4:14Traditional Values and principles in particular, God
- 4:17schools and family on July 6, 2016.
- 4:22This Hometown Community would forever be shattered by a family
- 4:25Massacre. As Dawn began to Peak its way
- 4:30into the sticky warm summer night summer between 2 a.m. and
- 4:344 a.m. a wife and mother of five young children would brutally
- 4:38attack one by one, her entire family.
- 4:41As they slept yielding, a serrated kitchen knife.
- 4:44She ambushed and viciously stamp all five.
- 4:47Her young children and bed. When her husband awoke to
- 4:50witness this nightmare, he pleaded with her and begged her
- 4:53to stop her husband. Martin Ramirez attempted to
- 4:56escape and get help. The Attacked him stabbing, the
- 5:00father of her children and to Eternal silent.
- 5:04The mother called 911 afterwards and frantically reported the her
- 5:08entire family had been fatally stabbed, when investigators
- 5:12arrived, she was found cutting away at her own risk.
- 5:15She initially told the DFCS investigators, which is the
- 5:18Division of Family and Children Services, that someone else had
- 5:22come into their home and slaughtered her family.
- 5:25Isabel Martinez War, but it was a family friend who came around
- 5:29regularly, although she would not identify them by name.
- 5:33Little, did she know that her second oldest daughter, Diana
- 5:37had survived Dania Ramirez account of the night's events
- 5:42goes as follows. The little girl who was only 9
- 5:45years old at the time of the attack awoke.
- 5:47In the middle of the night to see her mom.
- 5:49Grabbed a knife from the kitchen and calmly walked towards her.
- 5:52And the bedroom, her mother, the Womanhood fed and clothed, her
- 5:57and talk to her, and her siblings into bed at night now,
- 6:00held her close with a knife pressed to her.
- 6:02She whispered to Diana, forgive me, I love you.
- 6:06You are going to the sky to see Jesus and then The knife deep
- 6:10into her daughter's flesh, the terrified little girl cried, and
- 6:14told her mother that she didn't want to go see, Jesus is about
- 6:19drag Diana and her own bedroom so that she could watch her
- 6:22husband, wake up and show him what she had done her father,
- 6:27Martin Romero, flew to the living room in an attempt to
- 6:30escape to get help, but as he reached the door, Isabel stabbed
- 6:34him repeatedly until he died on the floor.
- 6:38Of their mobile home. When her baby brother,
- 6:42two-year-old actual awoke Isabel stabbed him and then held his
- 6:46tiny nostrils, together, tight, so he could not breathe.
- 6:51She then watched as her toddler gagged and choked on his own
- 6:55blood Danna continue to watch in horror as her mom, stabbed her
- 6:59two other brothers Dakota and Dylan, and then her sister
- 7:03Isabella. She recalled how her mom stabbed
- 7:06each of her siblings, and then suffocated them until they
- 7:09stopped breathing. She then carried them one by one
- 7:13and to her parents bedroom and lay them all together across the
- 7:16bed. Isabel Martinez placed, a Bible
- 7:19upon each, one of their chest, This pending tragedy was rampant
- 7:26with warning signs and messages of Doom days.
- 7:30If not even weeks before from the words of Isabel Martinez
- 7:33herself, she had warned several people in her life which she
- 7:37intended to do to her family. Her father had died a few weeks
- 7:41prior, and the sequence of events after that one unfold,
- 7:45like a trail of breadcrumbs to her act of familicide.
- 7:50Isabel Martinez was a deeply religious Christian woman.
- 7:54She was consumed with the notion that her father.
- 7:56So was in Jeopardy since he had been a practitioner of
- 7:59Witchcraft and their native land of Mexico Witnesses, claimed
- 8:03that they watch her like, Handles in church and burn her
- 8:06hands with the Flames as she obsessively.
- 8:09Prayed for salvation. For her father, soul for Isabel.
- 8:14She believed that such a sacrifice in the form of her own
- 8:17pain would help her father, find his way out of the Pit fires of
- 8:21hell and into heaven, with God. Now, pursuing the events of
- 8:27filicide is about had conveyed to an employee of the Division
- 8:30of Family and Children Services that she had felt a devil like
- 8:34force attempting to learn our children away while they played
- 8:37in the ocean on a recent trip to Savannah Georgia.
- 8:41It is beyond my understanding, how such a delusional and creepy
- 8:45expression made by mother about her own.
- 8:47Kids was simply ignored that it was ignored by an employee of an
- 8:52organization, whose primary purpose. - and thus
- 8:56responsibility is to protect support and preserve families
- 9:00warrants. In my opinion, that this
- 9:03individual be held partially responsible for their deaths.
- 9:08To me this person's actions or rather their lack of
- 9:11intervention Falls within the parameters of mandatory
- 9:15reporting, which they should have been held accountable for
- 9:19mandatory reporting varies from state to state.
- 9:22But it is a statute that essentially holds all adults
- 9:24responsible who are in a position where their profession
- 9:27is frequently engaged with children under this law, such
- 9:31persons are required and can be held liable if they fail to
- 9:35report, any known or suspected maltreatment or abuse.
- 9:38Child. The most obvious examples of
- 9:43mandatory reporters would be teachers, Physicians members of
- 9:47law enforcement therapists counselors, child care
- 9:51providers, and of course, social workers some states.
- 9:55Apply the statute to all adults, no matter what their profession
- 9:58is. Georgia statute includes those
- 10:01professions April mentioned. In addition to those who process
- 10:04or produce visual or printed materials such as someone, who
- 10:08processes private film needless to say, at the very least, this
- 10:13person who neglected to report these strange and disturbing
- 10:16comments a mother made regarding the lives of her children should
- 10:20have led to their dismissal in this position.
- 10:23Their decision to not report this concern or even bring up
- 10:27the matter to someone else is justifiably infuriating in 2015,
- 10:34strangely enough, the family had been investigated regarding
- 10:37allegations that Isabel's husband Martin Romero, had
- 10:41harshly discipline their kids. It was alleged that he struck
- 10:45them with a belt and a phone charger cord.
- 10:47When they would refuse to stay asleep at night, it was decided
- 10:50at the time that the kids were in a healthy happy.
- 10:53Loving environment without any real risk posed to them, how
- 10:57ironic that it was the dad who is considered a legitimate
- 11:01threat to the family. It was not only the Division of
- 11:06Family and Children Services, who ignored the dire warnings,
- 11:09which is about clearly had given them after her.
- 11:12Father had died. Isobel told different members of
- 11:14her family in particular, one of her husband's cousins Griselda,
- 11:18how she was willing to do, whatever it took to save a soul
- 11:22and rescue her father from Hell. Griselda after the tragedy had
- 11:26already happened. Told him vestigators.
- 11:29How Isabel had told her that she had made a promise to hand over
- 11:32her children to an evil? Force.
- 11:36Her husband's nice. Johanna also reported after the
- 11:39fact investigators that Isabel had said that she was even
- 11:42willing to make a deal with God to take her own kids.
- 11:46If she could have her father back, another nice Edith,
- 11:50revealed her. Isabelle had shared only four
- 11:52days before the murders that she would quote unquote, put to
- 11:55sleep her family. How and why?
- 12:00All of these cries for help these obvious messages, that
- 12:03these innocent young children were in grave Danger, Their
- 12:06mother or brushed aside can only be answered by those who
- 12:11experienced it themselves. I personally cannot imagine
- 12:17someone telling me these things, especially apparent and taking
- 12:20any chance of their coming to fruition by failing to report my
- 12:24concerns to the authorities. Orlando, who was her husband
- 12:28Martin Ramirez brother? Also give insight into Isabel's
- 12:31mental state proceeding, the events.
- 12:33Apparently, he was worried about his wife and had recently taken
- 12:37her, to a doctor to prescribe her antidepressants.
- 12:40I could not find any information or if it was known how long
- 12:43before the familicide, this attempt at medical assistants
- 12:46occurred and if on how often she was taking the antidepressants,
- 12:50but at least her husband cared enough to try to help her It was
- 12:56also confessed. But Isabelle, Martinez herself,
- 12:58how she had visited a priest, two weeks, prior to killing her
- 13:01family. She had shared with the priest
- 13:04that she believed them bad people were after her, but the
- 13:07priest told her that, it was all in her head.
- 13:10Even if hypothetically, it was only in her head that does not
- 13:14negate what Isabel Martinez was feeling and experiencing much
- 13:19listed at, prevent the violence that culminated from her mental
- 13:22state. Isabel communicate to the
- 13:25investigators that she had sought salvation for her husband
- 13:29and children and that she believes, she did what was right
- 13:32in order to achieve this. However, I cannot help but
- 13:37Ponder upon how this statement contradicts her conveyance to
- 13:40several people in her life as they reported to the officials.
- 13:44After the crime had been executed, Isabel was willing to
- 13:47sacrifice her children and her family for her father's
- 13:51salvation. Why were these kinds of
- 13:54conflicting if not outright misleading and suspicious
- 13:59statements of the possibly true motive behind Isabel Martinez is
- 14:04actions, never used by the prosecution.
- 14:08Why did the state attorney? Not use this information to poke
- 14:12holes into and squash her use of the insanity defense in court
- 14:17that they so easily accepted the insanity defense is really
- 14:21beyond my comprehension given the indisputable evidence that
- 14:26was provided by her surviving. Child Diana to the investigators
- 14:30Isabel Martinez did finally admit the truth about murdering
- 14:33her family for the murders of her husband.
- 14:36Martin Romero, and their four children, which included,
- 14:39Isabella 10 Dakota 7, Dylan for an axle, who was barely two
- 14:45years old. She was charged with five counts
- 14:48of murder, and five counts of malice murder.
- 14:52Now, let's murder according to Georgia law equates to the
- 14:56totality of the circumstances, the totality of the
- 15:00circumstances with, in criminal law means that the sum of all
- 15:03the elements of the criminal act involved had demonstrated, the
- 15:06killings were evident of an abandoned and malignant heart.
- 15:11I will break these components of the criminal law and two more
- 15:14digestible parts for you. First mens rea which is Latin
- 15:20for guilty. Mind is one of the two most
- 15:23important elements which constitutes a criminal act in
- 15:27the criminal law. Mens rea describes the offender
- 15:29state of mind and indicates the degree to which they had
- 15:32knowledge of their actions and their intent to fulfill the act.
- 15:37Now, under the model Penal Code, which is the proposed criminal
- 15:40code that states can choose to apply to their own laws.
- 15:43There are four levels of mens rea The first being purpose or
- 15:48with intent, the second degree is with knowledge of the crime.
- 15:52The third level is recklessness and the fourth is when a crime
- 15:55is caused by negligence, Isabel Martinez is mens rea was shown
- 16:01that. She had acted with purpose,
- 16:02demonstrated by the premeditation of the act, the
- 16:05ACT astraeus which in Latin is the guilty.
- 16:08Act is defined by the actual crime and the actions that
- 16:11involved. In this case, her act Estrellas
- 16:15involved, the murder of her husband and four children
- 16:18aggravating factors. Describe the circumstances in,
- 16:20which the crime was carried out, which can increase the level of
- 16:23culpability and escalate the severity of the punishment, a
- 16:27convicted defendant. Can face for example,
- 16:30aggravating factors in a crime may include the use of a weapon
- 16:33and carrying out a robbery or sexual assault a hate crime or a
- 16:37crime carried out with excessive use of violence.
- 16:42And Isabel Martinez. This case the aggravating
- 16:45factors were the sheer brutality and heartlessness.
- 16:48She exhibited when she executes with crime combined, these
- 16:52elements of the crime to find malice murder.
- 16:54She was also charged with six counts, of aggravated, assault
- 16:58and a died for the attempted murder of her nine-year-old,
- 17:00daughter Diana. Isabel entered guilty based on
- 17:04Insanity, pleas to all five counts of murder for her husband
- 17:07and their slain children guilty to one count of aggravated
- 17:11assault and One count of Cruelty to Children for stabbing Diana.
- 17:17There were several extreme signs of Isabel Martinez has mental
- 17:21state and signs of psychosis before the massacre as
- 17:24previously, discussed, as well as after the killing which she
- 17:28is now known for notoriously displaying at her courtroom
- 17:31hearing inside the court in front of the judge and the
- 17:35Press. She smiled jubilantly placed her
- 17:38hands in a mockery of prayer waved.
- 17:41And gave a big thumbs up to the media, she performed in front of
- 17:44the camera and informed, the judge that she Do not need
- 17:48defense counsel, the district attorney decided that based on
- 17:51the clearly poor state of her mental health, that the state
- 17:54would not pursue the death penalty.
- 17:59I don't doubt that she was mentally ill but the
- 18:02premeditation calculated planning and the execution of
- 18:06the crime. Raises some serious questions
- 18:09for me Isabel carried out, the murders calmly call the police
- 18:13to report that someone else had done it.
- 18:16And then once her daughter told authorities, what actually
- 18:19happened? She feigns insanity and puts on
- 18:22a very publicized theatrical production of this mental
- 18:26illness. Maybe I am just cynical but her
- 18:31behavior before and after does not simply equate to a mentally,
- 18:35insane woman to me. If I had been the district
- 18:38attorney, I would have had several psychiatric evaluations
- 18:41conducted an inquiry with Behavioral Analyst and criminal
- 18:45profilers to help gauge alternative motives to the
- 18:48commission of this crime. Two years after the slaying of
- 18:53her, entire family, Isabel Martinez, who is now. 35 years
- 18:57old, was sentenced by a judge to five life sentences.
- 19:01For each of her family members lives.
- 19:04In addition, she was given 21 years for the other charges of
- 19:07assault and cruelty to a child. However, the actual punishment,
- 19:12she faces is a 30-year minimum sentence and a mental health
- 19:16facility with the possibility of parole.
- 19:22Since she is an undocumented immigrant from Mexico, if Isabel
- 19:25Martinez has ever released on parole, ice will Deport her back
- 19:29to her native country. Still the sentencing is a bit
- 19:33convoluted and does not give proper Justice to her five
- 19:37victims when she has the potential to be out of the
- 19:40mental health facility by her 60s, For some of you, it may not
- 19:46be all that surprising to hear given the level of violence or
- 19:49country engages in. But the United States has a
- 19:53significantly higher percentage of children who are murdered
- 19:56that other nations have a comparable level in regards to
- 19:59culture and economy what can be shocking or at least is horrible
- 20:04to hear. Is that children are much more
- 20:06likely to be the victims of homicide by parent than any
- 20:10other perpetrator and their life.
- 20:14For some perspective, a 2012 study by Hatter's Freeman
- 20:18revealed that for infants the rate of homicide is eight out of
- 20:22100,000 in the US where in Canada it is 2.9 infants who are
- 20:27killed out of every 100,000 on average.
- 20:31There are around 500 arrests for filicide which is the
- 20:35intentional killing of a child by a parent every year and
- 20:39United States as a child ages their chances of being murdered
- 20:43by their Parental figure to creases greatly, however, the
- 20:48manner in which they die, is much more severe.
- 20:51If they are killed, is older children.
- 20:55Interestingly and horrifying to learn, is that 90% of offender
- 21:00who kill their children are the biological parents of their
- 21:04victims once again as in. So many other related crimes of
- 21:09abuse and violence, those closest to us and particular,
- 21:14our biological relatives are the biggest threat to our
- 21:18well-being. In a 2007 World, Psychiatry
- 21:23study on maternal filicide, it was identified that the most
- 21:26common motivating factor when a mother kills the child is that
- 21:30she has under the unwavering belief that it is best for the
- 21:34child to die. What is so interesting and
- 21:38hypocritical about the criminal justice system?
- 21:41Which unfortunately tends to reflect society's warped
- 21:44perspective of all mothers, and most women who kill is that they
- 21:48are treated with great disparity.
- 21:50T, in comparison to men who commit the exact same crimes.
- 21:55Women, who kill are by far dealt with more leniency in the
- 21:59courts, and given far less severe sentences, the men who
- 22:03commit homicide Specifically, when it comes to parents who
- 22:08killed their children, women faced an average prison term of
- 22:1117 years where men are regularly faced with life imprisonment and
- 22:16some were even given the death penalty.
- 22:19Studies have also shown that women who kill their children
- 22:23are handled and perceived by the courts and often the media as an
- 22:27individual who's mentally ill, deranged or crazy, this could be
- 22:33because women who kill, especially mothers, who kill
- 22:36their children. Don't tend to fit within the
- 22:39tightly. Constrained gender boxes and
- 22:41roles women are expected to fit into in our society.
- 22:46This disparity is rooted in the patriarchal misconception that
- 22:50all women are nurturing and are born to be caring and loving
- 22:54mothers. According to Phillip Resnick a
- 22:57professor of Psychiatry who spent more than four decades
- 23:00studying and analyzing parents who murder their children, there
- 23:03is no greater success when utilizing the insanity defense,
- 23:07like when it is used by a woman who kills her kids The insanity
- 23:14defense is a type of plea can be utilized by a Defender and all
- 23:17but four states. Those been identified as Idaho,
- 23:21Kansas Utah, and Montana, there are many people in society,
- 23:26likely fueled by the salacious, and often inaccurate media that
- 23:31there are tons of criminals who escaped, true and just
- 23:34punishment by pleading, Not Guilty, by reason of insanity.
- 23:38However, this is a gross. Misperception, in fact, Oracle
- 23:43evidence which is simply data or statistics gathered by research
- 23:47conducted shows that the insanity defense is only used in
- 23:51about 1% of all felony criminal cases.
- 23:55With in those cases, it tends to be successful in about 20%.
- 24:00In other words, out of 1,000 defendants being prosecuted for
- 24:03what is most likely an extremely violent offense, only two or
- 24:08three are found not guilty by reason of insanity.
- 24:13Studies also demonstrate that it is a very risky move for the
- 24:17defendant make. This is because if their defense
- 24:20strategy does not work and they are found guilty, that person
- 24:24will likely spend as much as 22 percent longer in prison than a
- 24:29defendant who did not use this play for defendants who do
- 24:34succeed, apply an insanity defense in a criminal court.
- 24:37Only 1% are ever released four percent of released under very
- 24:42specific conditions. And 90% spend significantly more
- 24:46time incarcerated into mental institution than they would have
- 24:50spent for the same crime committed had.
- 24:52They been within the prison system.
- 24:55When the insanity defense is utilized for violent crimes,
- 24:58other than murder, the period of confinement.
- 25:01Within a mental hospital, can be twice as long versus a convicted
- 25:05individuals. Time in prison for nonviolent
- 25:08crimes. A defendant can spend as much as
- 25:11ten times longer inside a mental health facility.
- 25:16The insanity defense is an affirmative defense and has
- 25:20specific criteria, which the defendant must be proven to have
- 25:24met since most of venant's plead not guilty.
- 25:27By reason of insanity. Their trial is bifurcated, which
- 25:30means it is conducted in two stages.
- 25:33The first stage is when the jury or trial judge determines,
- 25:37whether the defendant is guilty or innocent the second stage
- 25:41involves determining, whether the defendant was legally
- 25:43insane, when the criminal act was committed.
- 25:46Pitted the burden of proof is therefore placed upon the
- 25:49defendant to provide evidence, that demonstrates that they were
- 25:53so mentally ill or so defective that they were incapable of
- 25:57having the mental capacity to commit the crime.
- 26:01This means that their mental or psychological condition, or
- 26:04disease, ultimately tainted. Their mind to such an extent
- 26:08that they were unable to decipher or understand what is
- 26:11deemed as moral and that their actions were wrong.
- 26:15In contrast, a defendant who pleads guilty by reason of
- 26:18insanity and Nitsa, they committed the crime but that
- 26:21they lacked the mental capacity to understand right from wrong.
- 26:28The two most effective Insanity defenses are for women, who have
- 26:32committed altruistic Philistines, which are defined
- 26:35as the murderer having been committed in the best interest
- 26:37of the children. The second type are those
- 26:40categorized as acutely psychotic, which is defined by
- 26:43mothers who have hallucinations and messages, which they hear
- 26:47whether their origin is from a dark or light Force to kill
- 26:50their children. These types of filicide,
- 26:53perpetrators are described as women who don't attempt to
- 26:56conceal their actions but rather Seek immediate help and confess
- 26:59to what they have done. However, in the case of Isabel
- 27:03Martinez, she only admitted the truth once the horrific facts of
- 27:07what she'd done, were laid out to investigators her brave.
- 27:11Little daughter Diana who narrowly escaped her mother's
- 27:14attempt on her life. Is maybe the only reason Isabel
- 27:18confessed this place is into question serious, doubts about
- 27:22her intentions of concealment versus a sincere confession.
- 27:28The insanity defense is even more successful when the mother
- 27:31has planned a filicide suicide and has made an attempt to end
- 27:35her own life. It was also reported that 69
- 27:39percent of these women were suffering from auditory
- 27:41hallucinations such as a voice. They heard instructing them to
- 27:45kill their children and 74% were found to be delusional.
- 27:50The most successful of such psychotic mental States
- 27:53involved, women, whose beliefs were based on the death of the
- 27:56child or children. Dream being the answer, the
- 27:59sacrifice if you will for the soul of the child or even to
- 28:03save the entire world. Severe depression has also been
- 28:08found to be a very strong factor in the state of delusion that
- 28:12has been determined to be necessary for a successful
- 28:15Insanity, defense depression can warp, an individual's
- 28:18perspective, and thought processes making the offender
- 28:21believe that it is the best interest of the child for them
- 28:24to be in heaven. Instead, This is evidence
- 28:27through the infamous child. Killing mother's, Andre Yates
- 28:30and Deanna Laney. There are also many other women
- 28:33who have been sent away to a mental health facility instead.
- 28:36Prison for the horrendous acts of violence.
- 28:39They committed against their children.
- 28:42Isabel Martinez was openly willing to sacrifice her entire
- 28:46family to save the soul of her recently deceased father, whom
- 28:50she believed was suffering and huh.
- 28:53It was not so much to save her children Souls, that.
- 28:56She murdered them, but rather to save that of her father's To me
- 29:02this does not equate to the same belief system that other
- 29:05delusional and extremely religious mothers have held who
- 29:09have committed filicide. There is no question that Isabel
- 29:12Martinez was depressed and suffering from some kind of
- 29:16delusions something in her mind led her to believe that she
- 29:20could bring Salvation to her father through the deaths of her
- 29:23own children. Only Isabelle Martinez herself,
- 29:26can share with those delusions were at the time and how deeply
- 29:30those impacted her mental state only time.
- 29:34And her psychiatrist will be able to determine if her mental
- 29:37condition. Has improved to the extent that
- 29:39she is deemed no longer a threat to herself.
- 29:42And others in society, I am not a therapist or psychiatrist but
- 29:47I cannot fathom how it is possible to release anyone out
- 29:50of a mental health. Facility who planned and carried
- 29:54out the massacre. Sucker of her own children.
- 29:58How can 30 years potentially be enough to justify that such a
- 30:02person be allowed back into society and give them a chance
- 30:06at Living the last of their years and freedom.
- 30:09There is something Gravely wrong about how our criminal justice
- 30:12system can incarcerate an offender for a non-violent crime
- 30:16such as drug trafficking for more time than this woman will
- 30:20possibly serve. There are already known cases of
- 30:23maternal, filicide where the perpetrator has been released
- 30:27from a mental health facility. Aditi and is now free to live
- 30:30their life. I will not begin to travel down
- 30:33this road of the Endless miscarriages of Injustice.
- 30:37Our criminal justice system has dished out over the centuries at
- 30:41least not this episode. After the nightmare, werter life
- 30:46had suddenly become, there was hope and positivity and the
- 30:50surviving daughter. Diana's life, she was now given
- 30:53a new home by her aunt and uncle who took ran after the tragedy
- 30:57and a post by the sheriff's department, only a few weeks,
- 31:00after her mother murdered her siblings and her father, the
- 31:04officers involved in the case came by to visit the little
- 31:07girl. They surprised her with a bounty
- 31:10of gifts. There were donated by people in
- 31:12her community. The officers were very surprised
- 31:16to see how fine Diana seem to be as you can see from the images
- 31:21in the link, Diana radiates health and happiness, she
- 31:25appeared to be adjusting amazingly well to her new family
- 31:29in life. There are something almost
- 31:32jarring and quite unexpected about this story ending with a
- 31:35sign of Hope. But Diana absolutely deserves to
- 31:38have the best life possible. Only time will tell how much
- 31:43trauma this poor child is deeply suffered.
- 31:45And on levels, she may not even be conscious of until she fully
- 31:49matures. Hopefully her aunt and uncle
- 31:52will encourage her to talk about what happened, have regular
- 31:55therapy sessions, and perceive her journey of long-term
- 31:59healing. Seriously, I am curious, what
- 32:03all of you think about this case?
- 32:04Do you believe that Isabel Martinez was so mentally ill
- 32:08that she could not understand right from wrong.
- 32:10Or if she did that, she was mentally incapable of acting out
- 32:14in a moral way. Do you think that a minimum of
- 32:1730 years inside a mental health facility with the chance of
- 32:21release gives Justice to her victims?
