- 0:33Hamster with a blunt pen knife for doing quicker, quicker.
- 0:37Yes. Welcome Paul, welcome.
- 0:40Welcome to the future. Now if I could just take you
- 0:43through to the reminder room right now so you can see what a
- 0:47pig's ear we made of planet Earth.
- 0:50You spend a little bit of time watching the TV there, all
- 0:53right? And then you come back into the
- 0:55spaceship and tell me how you're feeling about going to earth #2.
- 1:00Hang on, so you're telling me I've been in your bedroom for
- 1:02three months? What is this?
- 1:04So what's going on? Well, yes, sorry, I've only just
- 1:08released the handcuffs, but he was not objecting at the time,
- 1:14all right. What's this bump on my head?
- 1:18What's going on? You've been in the bedroom so
- 1:21long now you're delirious and think you're on a spaceship
- 1:24heading for the future. Right, Yes, Heading to New
- 1:27Earth. Lovely.
- 1:28Fantastic. Hello, Paul.
- 1:30Hello, Joe, How are you? Well, we're totally refreshed
- 1:33after our little break between episodes three and four.
- 1:37And back for the tail end. Oh, that's quite a good
- 1:40description actually, of Invasion of the dinosaurs.
- 1:44Indeed, Yes yeah. Back for more conspiracies,
- 1:48secrets, Shock reveals, lovely dinosaur models and and a new
- 1:56car for the Doctor. Fantastic A.
- 1:58Whole new plot Fred just opened up for us.
- 2:00Oh. Yeah.
- 2:01Yeah, free. I remember how slack your jaw
- 2:04was at the end of that. I had to pick it up on the
- 2:06floor. You know, I probably talked a
- 2:09lot when we did that episode about it, but genuinely top, top
- 2:14surprise in my entire watching of Doctor Who.
- 2:17Really. Yeah.
- 2:19Genuinely A shocking cliffhanger and something you don't get
- 2:21because, like, I talked before, but cliffhangers usually is the
- 2:26obvious stuff is a monster reveal or it's someone holding a
- 2:29gun to the doctor's head and say no, now, Doctor, you will die.
- 2:32But here we're like, we're completely blindsided.
- 2:35As you say, it's a completely different subplot suddenly opens
- 2:38up. And we're.
- 2:39And I do love a story that takes you somewhere else, like part
- 2:42way through as well. I love things like stones of
- 2:45blood where you end up on, on the, on the the spaceship in, in
- 2:48a kind of courtroom thing like, you know, halfway through.
- 2:51So I love, I love that kind of when a longer story like this, a
- 2:55six part can can take you somewhere else.
- 2:58You must adore the second-half of the arc, then.
- 3:01Oh, isn't that, isn't that fantastic?
- 3:03And what a brilliant conceit that is.
- 3:05Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, just two episodes.
- 3:09And then at that time, you know, I'm probably not, unless not an
- 3:12original fault. But at that time, nobody.
- 3:15So you didn't. We didn't.
- 3:16I don't think the audience was thinking in terms of, oh, this
- 3:18story has four episodes or this story has whatever.
- 3:21So like, you get to the end of this, that second part, and you
- 3:25think, OK, we're off somewhere else, and suddenly you're drawn
- 3:28back in. And doing 2 parts then right?
- 3:30That could have just been a 2. Part it could easily been a
- 3:32two-part or you know, the fact that all the stories were just
- 3:35kind of continuous anyway. So one kind of fed into the next
- 3:38wherever they went and you were, you know, perhaps fully
- 3:42expecting them to be somewhere completely different and maybe
- 3:44after a sci-fi when you're expecting them to do a
- 3:46historical or something. But yeah, yeah, that's a what a
- 3:49great idea. I mean, I think if you took away
- 3:51this insane subplot we're about to watch with this group of
- 3:56idiots totally duped into thinking they're heading to
- 3:59another planet when they're in fact in the basement under
- 4:02London in a fake spaceship. This probably could have been 4
- 4:06episodes, don't you think? This is This is the plot that
- 4:09kicks it to 6. Yeah, yeah.
- 4:11It's surprising how long it takes because like, you know,
- 4:14we're we've got the hold of this episode, Episode 4, and then
- 4:17we're well into Part 5. But so yeah, it's yeah, it's it
- 4:22definitely gives it extra legs for sure.
- 4:25Bolstered undoubtedly by Edith from a lower low and the
- 4:30tightness of Mark Crichton's jeans.
- 4:34How did he break the world record in those jeans?
- 4:36So I mean Blimey. There's a few words the mind
- 4:39boggles. Take a break.
- 4:40I'll tell you now, by pure chance, I just did a commentary
- 4:45on Morden undead the other day, right?
- 4:46And I asked about what are your sort of I wish it could have
- 4:50been. And James Locke literally by
- 4:53coincidence just said I wish there could be a supercar of
- 4:56invasion of the dinosaurs. Where when that twist at the end
- 5:00of episode 3 hits, there's a cart where the whole next
- 5:04episode is just set on the spaceship.
- 5:06So you're completely duped because the second you go back
- 5:09to Earth, you kind of know you're not in two, two different
- 5:14time zones. But I said to you, why not?
- 5:17You could be. You know what I mean?
- 5:20That's the that's the common, the common complaint about this
- 5:24episode, episode 4 in particular, is the fact that,
- 5:27you know, straight after the cliffhanger, you're into a scene
- 5:30with the Brigadier and Finch and and the Doctor.
- 5:34So we that illusions broken. But honestly, I might, like I
- 5:38say, I was so surprised after the first time watching,
- 5:40watching Part 3, going into Part 4, that I was, my mind hadn't
- 5:46quite caught up to that. And I don't think I'd kind of
- 5:48fully tweaked that, that, that actually, that doesn't make
- 5:51sense if you actually stop to think about it.
- 5:53And umm, yeah, no, I think I definitely think it still works.
- 5:56I think there is a a case for saying yeah, wouldn't it be
- 5:59great if par 4 was entirely the spaceship?
- 6:02Maybe half, half the episode might have been a good.
- 6:04Idea maybe, but like I think I said in, in the, the recording
- 6:09of episode 3, umm, really the job of the cliffhanger is to get
- 6:13you to say what the but I want to, I definitely need to see how
- 6:16this carries on. So you don't think, I don't
- 6:19think you really need to extend any longer.
- 6:22And as you say, I don't think it hurts that that we, you know,
- 6:26the, that there it's revealed straight away that there is
- 6:30something, you know, something going on.
- 6:32We know Sarah's a smart character.
- 6:35We know that she's not cynical is wrong word, but she's a
- 6:38journalist. So she's sceptical.
- 6:40You know, she's, she's going to want to investigate things.
- 6:42It's kind of in her nature. And she, we know straight away
- 6:45that she's thinking something's up here.
- 6:48So I think, I think it works really well for her character.
- 6:53And yeah, and the fact that she's still the say, the mystery
- 6:57still extended for so long. She doesn't know straight away
- 6:59what's happening. She just knows something's up.
- 7:02And I do have him watch these episodes back this way.
- 7:05I genuinely think there's really interesting things that Hulk is
- 7:09saying. I do think it's supposed to be a
- 7:14left, a left wing party, because what they're after is what the
- 7:20left is after, which is a greener earth, you know, and
- 7:24simpler times and better morals and all of this stuff that the
- 7:28left go on about. But they are absolutely
- 7:31deploying right wing methods in order to get it done.
- 7:36We did touch on this last time, didn't we?
- 7:38Because I was saying, well, I don't, you know, it doesn't the
- 7:42Grove what Grover's party is. It's not overtly stated So, but,
- 7:46and I think they say, well, is, you know, I don't know,
- 7:48actually, I can't remember exactly what I said, but I know
- 7:52I think there's a little bit of room for interpretation in their
- 7:56actions and in their motives. But you are totally right,
- 7:58especially when you get to see the three of them, Mark, Ruth
- 8:02and Adam, you get to see them on the ship.
- 8:05And it is, I think as as Terence Dix says in the in the on the
- 8:10DVD making of he said he calls them well meaning do gooders.
- 8:15And that is very much the attitude and the position of
- 8:17many on the left. Like, and I think Grover says in
- 8:20the part 6, like he says, you know, we want to lead people to
- 8:26a better way or something like that.
- 8:27I can't remember the exact line. So it is that idea of, yeah, we,
- 8:30we know better than you and we want you to be doing a certain
- 8:35thing. And that is pretty much.
- 8:37Grovers extremist, right? He's the one that knows
- 8:40ultimately what they're doing, which is wiping out everybody on
- 8:44the earth in order to sort. It's sort of like a reset, isn't
- 8:47it? You know, sort of a factory
- 8:49settings rewrite. Wipe clean, I think he says at
- 8:51some point. Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
- 8:53Sometimes I look out the window. Porn.
- 8:55I think maybe he was on to the right thing.
- 8:57You know, I see what's going on in English and American politics
- 9:02right now. Jesus, Yeah, yeah.
- 9:05Well, plenty to discuss them. Oh yeah, I think so.
- 9:09Yeah, yeah. Still got still got surprises to
- 9:12to cover yes, still plenty of of interest there.
- 9:16And as you say, plenty, plenty of commentary from Hulk,
- 9:19definitely. Nobody knows that Yates is a
- 9:21trade to get, do they? No.
- 9:23We're going to have a whole sequence where the doctors
- 9:25haunted, like, Oh my God, it's so exciting.
- 9:27Well, should we go and watch it? Should we?
- 9:30Should we? Let's crack on.
- 9:31Yeah, let's do. It I'll start this if you would
- 9:33do me the greatest honour of counting us in.
- 9:36OK, Ham fam, let's start in 321. Off we go.
- 9:44Now look, you will have to put up with me though potentially
- 9:46every now and again going, you know, Renee, what are you doing
- 9:50with your arms around that servant girl on the line?
- 9:53You know, or doing? Do you remember how she used to
- 9:56do some dreadful singing, didn't she?
- 9:58I could have danced all night. Everyone's got cheese and there
- 10:03he is. Or something.
- 10:04It must be so weird being an actor doing that and having like
- 10:07a long career. I'm sure she's done plenty.
- 10:09Obviously she's been indulged twice.
- 10:11But like the I mean apart from us knowing her for this, the
- 10:15thing that everybody knows her for is is a lower low.
- 10:17I love the fact that they're taking flared jeans with them to
- 10:22the future. You know only the best.
- 10:23Actions. Yeah, yeah, Going back to a
- 10:26simpler time with tighty, thick and denim.
- 10:29Oh yeah, look, we're literally straight back to the present
- 10:31now, aren't we? Yeah, straight back.
- 10:34OK, the Doctor's looking very thoughtful.
- 10:36Where is Sarah Jane? You know, I could have sworn I
- 10:39left her here. Yeah, he's he's got quite a lot
- 10:41of he's really the fury here where he's talking about the
- 10:44chains being cut. He's, you know, he's starting to
- 10:46get a bit pissed off and he's starting nothing to suspect
- 10:49what's going on. But like none of them know here.
- 10:52We actually get the Finch reveal in this scene where after after
- 10:56the doctor in the book, there goes yeah, he's just talking to
- 10:59Finch. And that's how we actually, we
- 11:01know that he's quite SUS and we know that he's been sort of, you
- 11:04know, a bit shady for the three episodes, but that's the first
- 11:07time it's revealed. And and actually he's quite so
- 11:11it's not a big surprise, but it's quite a low key reveal
- 11:13compared to the others, I think. But.
- 11:15Oh, honestly, the way John Perky was brandishing those chambers,
- 11:19I was getting a bit hot under the collar over it.
- 11:23Luckily he's got he's got his new cards to take his mind off
- 11:25things, so he's going to oh. Boy oh boy, the Hoover Bill.
- 11:29Is it coming up now? Yeah, yeah.
- 11:31Here we go. Get it off the ground up there.
- 11:34Wouldn't you rather have a Jeep? He says.
- 11:36Not a bit of it, Brigadier. No, I mean, do you remember when
- 11:39he was on Blue Peter, doesn't he?
- 11:41He goes yes, yes it is roadworthy. 2 back, one at the
- 11:44front. Yep.
- 11:46And I sort of pop engine. He goes yeah, but he looks so
- 11:50happy going. He's like a picking shit, isn't
- 11:52he? I've been genuinely, yeah, I
- 11:56just fabulous, isn't it that he mobiled and the these shots of
- 11:59them going around London, I think just just brilliant.
- 12:01What? Is unusual.
- 12:03It's the only time they succumb to this, the sort of space car
- 12:07for the Doctor, right? They never ever do it at any
- 12:10other point. Yeah, if this is an.
- 12:12American show Doctor Who would have space vehicles all the
- 12:15time. You know, the Batmobile and all
- 12:17of this. Yeah, you know what?
- 12:18It's, it's like when they started the repeats of, of
- 12:21Doctor Who in the, in the 90s and like in the 90s, there was
- 12:24that kind of weird 70s obsession.
- 12:27It was like for 5 minutes. It was like the 70s were quite,
- 12:29quite in. And so they started to, to, to
- 12:33go through the run and the plan, I think plan was to repeat all
- 12:36the pervies. But they got about as far as
- 12:38into the Silurians and kind of gave up.
- 12:40And I think the part of it was they were trying to sell it on
- 12:42this kind of like this kind of funky 70s vision that Doctor Who
- 12:48wasn't and certainly wasn't in Season 7.
- 12:50If they'd have maybe started with with with the humor Bill,
- 12:53if it had been the humor Bill the whole time, maybe that would
- 12:55have been what they were looking for.
- 12:57But it's not quite Doctor Who, is it really?
- 12:59I think there's only a couple of times, you know, when classic
- 13:02Doctor Who actually genuinely feels like the decade that it's
- 13:05in. The War Machines feels like the
- 13:0860s. Yeah, maybe the designs in the
- 13:10war games when they're off to that base, you know, those
- 13:12swirly, whirly designs. Yeah, the 70s maybe claws of
- 13:16axos, that sort of crazy colour coming at you throughout the
- 13:19whole story. But on the whole, it's all
- 13:21timeless, isn't it? Doctor Who?
- 13:23Yeah, I, I think so, yeah, you're right.
- 13:25And actually pretty better for it.
- 13:26I mean, I'd love it if it lent more into that 70s stuff.
- 13:29I kind of wanted it to be a bit like the, you know, the well,
- 13:32our guitar and all that stuff, but.
- 13:34I've been watching the New Avengers the.
- 13:36New. Cleaned up, it's just heaven.
- 13:39All that waka waka waka waka up music while they're all beating
- 13:42people up. Joanna Lumley being a cool bit.
- 13:44Oh my words. Now listen, this is very left
- 13:48wing extremists, right? They come in and they're all
- 13:50smiles. Oh my dear, surely you must
- 13:54share all of our ideals. The second they realise she
- 13:57doesn't, they want to cancel her immediately.
- 14:00As I said, Oh yeah, just we must destroy her.
- 14:02I mean, it's the only option, isn't it really?
- 14:04But I will say, though, there's something that Ruth says that I
- 14:07think it's quite interesting. I don't have this here or the
- 14:09next scene they're in where she she if she's not conservative,
- 14:13if she's not right wing, she's definitely conservative with a
- 14:15small city because she talks about moral degradation and
- 14:19things like that. So she's sounding a bit like a
- 14:21White Housey kind of character, whereas, you know, like I know,
- 14:24do you know what I mean? So that seems more to me to be.
- 14:28I mean the reminder room is brainwashing.
- 14:31You're forced in front of a screen until you're
- 14:33indoctrinated into what they think.
- 14:36Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, you don't get me wrong,
- 14:38they are very hippy dippy, right on.
- 14:42And they, yeah, they are a left wing group.
- 14:44But just that dialogue from her, she strikes me, as I say, more
- 14:47of a kind of Mary White House type character.
- 14:49What Terror says in the commentary is so great at that
- 14:53line about, you know, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 14:55It's for your own good. We're doing all this for your
- 14:57own good. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 14:58For your moral value and for the good of the Earth, we're going
- 15:02to wipe everybody out. Oh no, they don't know that.
- 15:04They just think they're going to another planet, don't they?
- 15:07Yeah, that's got to be a well, actually we're not there yet.
- 15:10We'll get to the this. How?
- 15:11How? Were they going to fight that?
- 15:13I mean, they're not in a spaceship.
- 15:15What? Yeah.
- 15:15What we what was the plan? When?
- 15:18When it actually happens. Maybe the bunker is sort of
- 15:20spaceship shaped and that's the only thing that will survive
- 15:24once everything else has gone. Actually, that makes sense,
- 15:26doesn't it? That's that's kind of the reason
- 15:28they're. Making it out, but cover it with
- 15:29a line as Tara says. Well, exactly.
- 15:31And a lot of things, you know, where people criticise this
- 15:35story is they, they, they will pick it apart for things like
- 15:38that. They'll pick it apart for
- 15:39always. Is it believable that Mark and
- 15:42Adam and Ruth and the others would, would actually fall for
- 15:45Grover's mad scheme? But actually, yes.
- 15:47Have you seen these cult documentaries that are on
- 15:51Netflix? People believe all kinds of
- 15:53shit. Yeah, people will believe
- 15:55exactly what what they want to hear.
- 15:57They will, you know, if they want the that ideal of a golden
- 16:00age, then they will, you know, they'll they'll definitely.
- 16:02Believe it. Women have literally been kept
- 16:04as sex slaves in dungeons believing that the whole earth
- 16:09has been destroyed. I've seen the documentaries.
- 16:12It's absurd what you can make people believe, but there we go.
- 16:15Don't talk too lately. I don't want the wife to hear.
- 16:17She might want to want a bit more freedom, but anyway, right?
- 16:20Well, you say. Go back to the dungeon.
- 16:22Oh. Well like I love all this.
- 16:24I'm getting Web of Fear vibes now as we go into the
- 16:27underground. Do you know what?
- 16:28There's not a lot of Dino action in this in the next episode, but
- 16:31this cloak and dagger shit, I just absolutely love the this,
- 16:35you know, the the underground set here.
- 16:37It's fantastic. It's quite Moody, isn't it?
- 16:39That's stalking. Around.
- 16:41Yeah, yeah. But.
- 16:42Why did they forget to light like this in the 80s?
- 16:44Yeah, yeah, absolutely. And when we get to the
- 16:46underground basin, perplease in the corals later on, that's
- 16:50brilliantly lit. It's all.
- 16:51It's all. Great.
- 16:52And there's a lovely theme, like a whip cracking, which, yeah.
- 16:56With the doors, yeah. The only unfortunate thing is
- 16:58when those doors come down there is a bit of wobble.
- 17:01I can. I can forgive it.
- 17:02I can forgive it. Well, there's a bit of wobble
- 17:05when I move as well, so yeah, yeah, yeah, definitely forgive
- 17:08it. Steve, any biscuits?
- 17:09Dino action What exactly are you expecting?
- 17:13Well, you know, I expect a few more unconvincing scenes of
- 17:18dinosaurs against little dioramas, which we've enjoyed a
- 17:21lot for the first few episodes. I want John Perry to come out
- 17:24from his Hardness Park. Good grief.
- 17:26Martin Jarvis, are you involved in this?
- 17:29I want him to come back from underneath that bench going
- 17:31bloody hell what the hell was under there?
- 17:32Like the filter on the in the tube?
- 17:34I can't imagine lying underneath that seat.
- 17:37He's got a janitor's cupboard and a filing cabinet room, both
- 17:42of which are. Brilliant And and the and I love
- 17:46the the the effect of the the lights going up the slats.
- 17:50Look at that. That's so.
- 17:51Convincing. That's so simple.
- 17:53Simple. Very simple.
- 17:54Yeah. Love it.
- 17:55And the fact that you go, is this the kind of thing that as a
- 17:58kid you'd really grab hold of? Like I would when we watched
- 18:01Carnival, I said I got really excited when Joe brings out some
- 18:05skeleton keys. And it's just simple shit like
- 18:07that that would have appealed to me as a kid.
- 18:09And like pulling the the coat hanger and all of a sudden
- 18:12you're in a lift going down into a secret base.
- 18:14Great stuff. I just, I like, I don't think
- 18:17this really stops giving, right. There's always new things to
- 18:20discover, new traitors to discover, new dinosaurs to
- 18:24discover, new plants, which to discover.
- 18:26There's always stuff happening in this.
- 18:28Yeah, like we said in the first half, I really don't understand
- 18:31the people that I mean, do you remember that House Thomas
- 18:34Walker book? They was giving it three and two
- 18:36out of 10. What are they watching?
- 18:39David Howe, give it another chance, please.
- 18:42I guess if you're of a certain age, like we talked in the
- 18:45beginning of the Part 1 when we talked about my family watching
- 18:48this, if you watch this when you're in your late teens and
- 18:52you know you're watching it and the family's taking the Mickey
- 18:54out of the dinosaurs, you probably would feel a bit
- 18:56self-conscious about it and you might carry that with you.
- 18:59No, you ditched the family and watched off the home.
- 19:03Come on now, be reasonable. Yeah, yeah, like, sorry, mother,
- 19:07it's you or the dinosaurs. Look at how as, well, Look,
- 19:10they're not stupid. These golden age people, they've
- 19:12dressed this elevator with caps and cloaks and all sorts, you
- 19:16know? It's a proper cupboard, yeah.
- 19:20Now my other half said, why does Peter Miles always play a camp
- 19:25sinister villain? I think he's very good at it.
- 19:29That's probably the reason. I mean this, I love Doctor
- 19:32Lawrence in the Silence. I think that's a really,
- 19:35especially when he died, that's a terrifying thing.
- 19:37And obviously Noida is probably his best performance, so this is
- 19:43probably his lesser, but I think there's so many good characters
- 19:47in this, it doesn't really matter.
- 19:48He sort of throws into the pack somewhere.
- 19:51Yeah, he he's perhaps not as fleshed out.
- 19:54You don't spend a lot of time with him talking about his
- 19:56motivations, and you get the impression that maybe Whitaker
- 20:00is doing this for slightly different reasons compared to
- 20:02the others. Maybe it's just like, you know,
- 20:05that the fact that he's been overlooked professionally and
- 20:08and he's just wanting to prove something.
- 20:10But you know, it's, it's still Peter Miles, isn't it?
- 20:13So he's like, he's going to be great, whatever he just does.
- 20:15And Martin Jarvis as well doesn't have a huge.
- 20:17Part that's even more shocking because Jarvis off is a bigger
- 20:20draw. Yeah, I think at this time he
- 20:23used to, he was quite well known, but maybe not as much as
- 20:27later years perhaps. And I think, I think he said he
- 20:29just wanted to do this for the for his kids.
- 20:31So. I mean, in the book, Butler's
- 20:34fleshed out brilliantly. He's, you know, a very tragic
- 20:37but somehow. But yeah, there's a bit of
- 20:39wobble there. Look.
- 20:40Yeah, but this but look, look at the Moody lighting here.
- 20:43And I love about this stuff like they're, they're like holed up
- 20:48in their bunker and they're keeping him from reaching them.
- 20:51So it's it's required. I don't think Doctor Who does
- 20:54this very much where the doctors kind of prevented from actually
- 20:57meeting the baddies is being held back and pushed back up, up
- 21:00the up the lift. It's like a rat being LED for a
- 21:02maze. Yeah, back to the very clear,
- 21:04you know. Really cool.
- 21:06I don't know. He's just really, really
- 21:08different, I think. Oh look, you've got a bit of
- 21:10Twin Dilemma blooming on the walls.
- 21:11Yeah, yeah, they went on. That's that's for, that's to
- 21:15convince the people when they come out of the spaceship,
- 21:17they're actually, it was a spaceship.
- 21:20Yeah, but these are nice sense, you're right.
- 21:22Oh, there you go. Paddy Russell's realised the
- 21:24walls wobbling so she's cutting away now before he's.
- 21:27Yeah, and you see, you see Martin Jarvis kind of chuckling
- 21:30there like he seems to be, I don't know, he's kind of an
- 21:33interesting character because as I say in the book of he
- 21:36obviously gets fleshed out a lot more.
- 21:37But here you've got these little glimpses of it.
- 21:41He seems quite sadistic in this. But actually then he's still the
- 21:44one doing the voice over in the re education room or whatever
- 21:48they call it. So he's obviously still in it
- 21:50for the for the the cause, but he's also seems to be a bit the
- 21:54bastard. He enjoys it as.
- 21:55Well, yeah, yeah, yeah, he's. One of those hench men you know
- 21:58sort of rubs his hands together when he gets to do something
- 22:01violent. Right, right.
- 22:02I. Love the fact that in episode 2,
- 22:05they've done all the groundwork for how this thing can exist
- 22:08under the ground. Sarah was going there was an
- 22:11underground bunker created in case of a nuclear emergency.
- 22:14It had a reactor down there, equipment, everything.
- 22:18So they they've got everything down there in order to pull off
- 22:21this massive con. Yeah, yeah, you're right.
- 22:25I mean it, it does make complete sense, doesn't it?
- 22:29Anybody who says that, oh, you know, it's a, you know, I'm
- 22:33plausible. I don't know this works for me.
- 22:36Or pterodactyl. He's just hanging out on the
- 22:38rock, having a nice son of himself.
- 22:40And now he's going to be in the in the in the ground.
- 22:44Oh, this is fun. Yes, mop versus dinosaur.
- 22:48Oh. Fantastic.
- 22:51Good grief, it's a pterodactyl. Oh my God.
- 22:57I mean look, he ain't got much choice.
- 22:59He's only got a few. I suppose he could have used the
- 23:01bucket. I mean, what a story for the
- 23:05doctor to tell over wine and Brandy's in the in the club.
- 23:09Wow. Pterodactyl came flying at me
- 23:12out of the underground. I grabbed a mop and buffed him
- 23:16in the face. Amazing.
- 23:19I think that's the only dinosaur bit we get in this one.
- 23:23Actually, he does some, he does talk about this in the Happiness
- 23:26Patrol, doesn't he? He says, oh, she goes, oh,
- 23:28dinosaurs. And he goes, yes, I met him in
- 23:30the London. Underground.
- 23:31There we go. There we go.
- 23:34Cheating, lying, cruelty. Yes, I think Ruth has got the
- 23:38measure of us quite well actually.
- 23:40Yeah, and, and a word I've never heard of before usury, and I
- 23:44only saw it in the in the subtitles.
- 23:46So when I watched this the other day and I was like, I don't even
- 23:48know what that means. But you look it up.
- 23:51I didn't. I just assumed I meant using
- 23:52people, but. If you could get in touch
- 23:55because I don't know what it means either.
- 23:56Well, you've got plenty of writers listen to this, this and
- 23:59being part of the podcast, so yeah, yeah.
- 24:01Sarah had a great line there, though she goes.
- 24:03You've got a warped view of things.
- 24:06Right. And they do because they're not
- 24:08seeing any of the good. Now I said, look out the window.
- 24:11It's terrible. But then, oh, everyone I know is
- 24:13Absolutely Fabulous. So the world is not made-up of
- 24:16terrible people. I mean, look at the man I've got
- 24:18on this call, you know, prime example of humanity at its
- 24:22finest. Oh, I'm a complete bastard.
- 24:24I wouldn't listen to a word I say, but it's yes.
- 24:27Oh seductive, how much of A bastard are you?
- 24:29Oh, I'm a rotten. I don't believe it for a second
- 24:35now. What's always bringing the
- 24:36Brigadier? He's Oh, this is pretty.
- 24:38Bit worried since the triceratops.
- 24:40Is it this bit or is that? Like, is that?
- 24:42Yeah. Is that in this episode?
- 24:45Sorry, yes. The stick of dynamite or
- 24:48something? Isn't it just to light the way?
- 24:50I think that's a great diorama with with the with that dinosaur
- 24:53in the tube. I think that looks brilliant.
- 24:56Oh, I think you know what, what you said about once you get past
- 24:59the T Rex, the rest is they don't mean they're not.
- 25:02They're not like Jurassic Park, but they're passable for Doctor
- 25:05Who. Is that is that main T Rex model
- 25:08like the the the hero head bit that one the guy?
- 25:11Is really my favorite, though it's still my favorite.
- 25:14Oh, you know, he's iconic, isn't he?
- 25:15No one is as hungry as big man T Rex, you know he just wants to
- 25:19eat everything. He looks like he's permanently
- 25:21got like big dog bogies in his nose.
- 25:23You're like 2 big black nostrils.
- 25:25They should have got me in. I would have said to him, get a
- 25:28big packet of Chewits, it'll be fine.
- 25:32I love these two in the cupboard though.
- 25:33This is great. Now, Brigadier, I've been
- 25:37meaning to get you in the cupboard for ages.
- 25:41Doctor, you said this was a lift.
- 25:42Yes, that was my deceit. Look at Perry in the chair with
- 25:47his hands. And he just shoves the file
- 25:51across the desk. He's, yeah, he's like, really
- 25:53pissed off. Oh Grover, me think you protest
- 25:57too much. That's The thing is we know as
- 26:01an audience, we know who's in on it now, but they're still over
- 26:06this episode. In the next episode.
- 26:08It's slow drip feeders. They're kind of figuring out
- 26:10who's who's involved and who's not.
- 26:12This line delivery in a minute is fucking gold.
- 26:15He just looks at the file and he goes, I prefer to believe in the
- 26:19evidence of my own eyes. And he looks at him as if to
- 26:22say, I know you're involved in this.
- 26:25Yeah. There it is.
- 26:26Look. Oh, say purpose phoning it in.
- 26:31Come on. Well, I think is it?
- 26:33Oh, I did look this up, but like even this episode, I think it's
- 26:37this episode like the day before or a couple days before he he
- 26:41was broke. The news broke that he'd quit.
- 26:43So. Maybe he's pretty good, right?
- 26:45He goes. That's it.
- 26:45I'm going to prove myself right. Yeah.
- 26:47Yeah. You can't have this show without
- 26:49me because I'm amazing. Yeah, absolutely.
- 26:51Pass me that mop. Would you like a cup of tea?
- 26:57I'll become quite the expert. No, no, no.
- 27:00We don't want your hospitality. Thank you, Mr. Grover.
- 27:05Ah, who's this? The chauffeur.
- 27:07Well, that's a familiar face. It's Martin Jarvis.
- 27:10Indeed. Good grief, I thought you were
- 27:13in the underground. Terrible.
- 27:16John Pertway impressions this time.
- 27:20Ah, here we go. Since the dawn of the Industrial
- 27:23Revolution, man has polluted this planet.
- 27:27Yes. I mean, yes, and it's very much
- 27:30Barry Letts his opinion, isn't it, you know?
- 27:32That's why, yeah, yes. The Green Deaf.
- 27:35I mean, and from all the camps, somebody who was kind of ahead
- 27:38of the curve in many ways. And you know, from what we hear,
- 27:42I mean, I don't know, but from what we hear, it wasn't
- 27:45something that was hugely talked about at the time.
- 27:47I remember growing up in the 80s by then, by that point, it had
- 27:51become something that everybody talked about and we covered at
- 27:54school and stuff like that. But I don't think 10 years here
- 27:58beforehand, I don't think we they did.
- 27:59Now I mean Trump such an idiot. Really.
- 28:02You can't dispute the evidence of your own eyes.
- 28:05Clearly things are getting hotter.
- 28:08I mean forests are self igniting.
- 28:11Yeah, no, but it's the wind turbines, Joe.
- 28:13We need to get rid of them. They're terrible.
- 28:14Oh, they're so ugly, aren't they?
- 28:17Ruining our beautiful. What the cum he is.
- 28:21Oh my God. Oh dear.
- 28:25Yeah, but I think you've got 3 levels of extremists here.
- 28:30Obviously Mark is the sort of the dupe and the gentle one and
- 28:35then the mid range 1 is the man and then she's the extremist
- 28:39really of the three. Yeah, yeah, but she's the other
- 28:42politician as well. So like, I guess if you're going
- 28:44to have somebody be that face of, you know, the, the kind of
- 28:48hard line, I guess she's probably the one to have it, I
- 28:50suppose I. Mean she does say, doesn't she?
- 28:53If she doesn't come around, we'll have to kill her, Yeah.
- 28:56Can't have her polluting. Destroyed.
- 28:59That's the word she uses, kind of destroy her, yeah.
- 29:02And like, you know what? I am a left winger.
- 29:06So when I say this I mean I'm not talking about myself, but I
- 29:09have seen extreme left wing ISM on social media.
- 29:13People have been threatened with death.
- 29:15Like it has happened, you know. Yeah, yeah.
- 29:18I think like the the last time I recorded, I was like, I don't
- 29:23know, like me, you know, they don't say party Grovers from I
- 29:26think maybe there was a little bit of me going there.
- 29:28I don't want to really recognize that.
- 29:31I don't want to. See, that was a left winger.
- 29:33He's. Yeah.
- 29:34He's treating the people he's rubbed shoulders with, I think.
- 29:37Yes, yeah, absolutely. Yeah.
- 29:39And I think it's really great because I mean, nobody can
- 29:43accuse the perp we're of not showing you both sides in the
- 29:45Green Death. You've got people looking for a
- 29:48better world and doing it in a positive, creative and political
- 29:52way. Here you've got people looking
- 29:55for a better world and, well, they just want to cause a mass
- 29:58genocide. Yeah, yeah, it's, it's it's very
- 30:01much a companion piece to the Green Death, isn't it?
- 30:04Yeah, it's the same same impetus, but like completely
- 30:07different reactions to it. It's.
- 30:09So interesting because you just don't expect the left to be the
- 30:13villains. Yeah.
- 30:15And that's, that's more interesting.
- 30:16I know you said you'd prefer sort of black and white.
- 30:18That's definitely a grey area, isn't it?
- 30:21Of like, oh God, shouldn't we? I mean, their ideals are right,
- 30:25but. No, you're totally, you're
- 30:26totally right. It is, it is more interesting.
- 30:28It does make for more interesting drama and it is
- 30:30totally why the invasion of dinosaurs is the big success
- 30:33that it is, I think, and why actually a lot of people, a lot
- 30:38of people really enjoy this story, I think is that
- 30:40sophistication. But yeah, I it's not something,
- 30:43not a message you necessarily want Doctor to to be giving.
- 30:47Don't trust the left wingers, all right?
- 30:49Everyone become Nazis. But don't you worry, because
- 30:52we're going to have the Nazis in Genesis and the Daleks, and
- 30:55trust me, it's not a pretty depiction of them.
- 30:58Yeah, yeah, absolutely. Ah, hello, Doctor.
- 31:02It's me. I'm the scientist you've been
- 31:04looking. For Joe's kept me locked up in
- 31:07his bedroom for three. Months.
- 31:08Oh, Peter Miles, are you having a laugh?
- 31:13Apparently he liked inviting men back to his house to listen to
- 31:16some of his jazz, you know. Yeah, yeah.
- 31:19Yes, indeed. Yeah.
- 31:23Maybe we won't go there. No, no, yeah, I was going to say
- 31:26that. Well, actually, I was going to
- 31:27actually know what I want to say, but I'll talk about it 10.
- 31:30Off Mike and are people listening?
- 31:32You'll never hear it. Alright, just me.
- 31:36Yeah. Oh, Now what's the plan then?
- 31:38They're trying to lure him. Oh, they.
- 31:41Got the yeah, they're going to frame the Doctor.
- 31:43This is really interesting, I think right here.
- 31:46What is it interesting? Cliffhanger is a great way of
- 31:48bringing the dinosaurs back into it.
- 31:50But also it's the kind of cliffhanger I don't think Doctor
- 31:53Who really does like where the the credibility of the Doctors
- 31:58being brought into like question here and it's.
- 32:01Not solved straight away. No, it's not like don't be
- 32:05ridiculous. It's the doctor.
- 32:06He's put under arrest, he escapes, he's haunted down.
- 32:10Exactly. And we don't know that the
- 32:12Brigadier doesn't sort of dismiss it out of hands straight
- 32:16away. And as you say, like he has to
- 32:17go on the run. I don't think Doctor Who does
- 32:20this very much. You don't expect, you don't
- 32:23think you don't expect his allies like the Brigadier and
- 32:26and and UNIT to go. Actually, Doctor, I think you
- 32:29might have been involved here. So yeah, really unusual.
- 32:33Jehoshaphat. Was that a stegosaurus I just
- 32:36saw? I love doing an exclamation
- 32:40every time there's a dinosaur, You know?
- 32:42It's a pure John Perry style. And you, like you would think
- 32:47straight away the Brigadier would go, oh, don't be
- 32:49ridiculous. What he actually says is,
- 32:51Doctor, you're under arrest. Under arrest, yeah.
- 32:54That's a great line and the doctor's like, what the fuck's
- 32:57going on? Like they they could have,
- 32:59because that's on the reprise, isn't it?
- 33:01But it's not on the cliffhanger, I don't think.
- 33:04So that would have been actually more impactful if they'd have
- 33:07cut it there with the Brigadier saying that, I think another.
- 33:10Really interesting cliffhanger though, isn't it?
- 33:12Yeah, yeah, definitely. As I say, I don't think Doctor
- 33:14Who does that very often at all. Everyone always says, don't
- 33:18they? Oh, it's just the T Rex turning
- 33:20up every time. And admittedly, I think that is
- 33:21four of the six cliffhangers, But the other two, they're
- 33:25bangers. Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
- 33:28And I think we're in the next episode.
- 33:30It is the Cliff, the T Rex again.
- 33:32But again, it's it's doing, it's at the end of an episode where
- 33:36we haven't really seen the dinosaurs at all.
- 33:38So it's like kind of like bam. Yeah, they are still here.
- 33:41They are still an issue, and you're going to have to sort
- 33:44them out. So yeah, this is great.
- 33:49Don't you worry, all right, I've got a big bottle of BBQ sauce
- 33:52over it. If the 2 words turns up, I shall
- 33:54slap myself in it and offer myself a sacrifice.
- 33:58Oh, oh, that's very kind if you will allow me to make my getaway
- 34:02in the humor Bill and. The world is nice, people like
- 34:05you and not. Come to me.
- 34:06All right? I fear I've been too nice on
- 34:10these calls. If you speak to my wife, she'd
- 34:13tell you what a git I am. So.
- 34:15Oh, really? All right, well, get her on.
- 34:17Let's find out the truth.
