- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, guys, welcome to another episode of Eating While Broke.
- 0:03Speaker 1: I'm your host Kolee Waitt, and today we have very
- 0:06Speaker 1: special guest actor, writer, producer Miguel Nunez is in the building. Yeah,
- 0:12Speaker 1: and I'm not broke and he ain't broke. It was
- 0:14Speaker 1: It was.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Funny because you were like, wait, what we go to
- 0:16Speaker 2: what broke?
- 0:17Speaker 1: Yeah, we're gonna take you back.
- 0:19Speaker 2: You gotta write, Miguel.
- 0:44Speaker 1: It's awkward always pitching someone on taking on the show
- 0:47Speaker 1: because They're like, what are you trying to say, And
- 0:48Speaker 1: I'm like, no, no, no, no, no, trying to take you
- 0:51Speaker 1: back to when you were broke.
- 0:52Speaker 2: I actually got that soon as I said Eating While Broke,
- 0:55Speaker 2: I immediately thought it was an interview about when you were.
- 0:59Speaker 1: When you were when you were struggling. Yeah, I want
- 1:02Speaker 1: to know your rise to success story, all starting with
- 1:05Speaker 1: this original dish. And by the way, you let me
- 1:08Speaker 1: know what you're gonna have me eating today.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Well, you gotta remember when I first came here, I
- 1:13Speaker 2: lived in the streets.
- 1:15Speaker 1: When you lived in the streets.
- 1:17Speaker 2: I lived in the streets. I was homeless because I
- 1:19Speaker 2: ran away from home, bought a bus ticket, I ran
- 1:22Speaker 2: away to California. I didn't care. I didn't know. All
- 1:25Speaker 2: I knew is I was going to be a movie star.
- 1:27Speaker 2: That's all I ever said. So soon as I graduated
- 1:29Speaker 2: July July August, what is it? June July, August, September, October,
- 1:34Speaker 2: three months later, I mean three Belogney sandwiches and got
- 1:36Speaker 2: on a bus and came to California And no no money,
- 1:39Speaker 2: no relatives, no nothing, from where North Carolina.
- 1:42Speaker 1: From North Carolina.
- 1:45Speaker 2: And because I had been telling everybody since I was
- 1:46Speaker 2: a kid, I'm gonna be a movie start, I'm gonna
- 1:48Speaker 2: go round away to Hollywood as soon as I graduated,
- 1:49Speaker 2: running away to Hollywood. I said it from the first
- 1:52Speaker 2: grade through the twelfth and I did it.
- 1:54Speaker 1: When you say, you read away, So does that mean
- 1:56Speaker 1: your parents were all the way in on this journey?
- 1:59Speaker 2: No, I was. I ran away. When you run away,
- 2:01Speaker 2: you don't.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Usually you know, you don't include them men on that.
- 2:06Speaker 2: No, you leave if you let them know. But I
- 2:08Speaker 2: know I wrote a note. I literally wrote a note.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Wait till everybody left the house, rolle a note, got
- 2:13Speaker 2: on the bus. I looked like I was ten. I
- 2:16Speaker 2: was forty eleven and weighed seventy five pounds when I graduated.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Okay, okay, probably say, dang, you grew after high school. Yeah,
- 2:25Speaker 1: that's what happened to my little My older brother, he
- 2:27Speaker 1: was like really small and then right when he hit college,
- 2:29Speaker 1: he like grew.
- 2:30Speaker 2: You know why black people are taller? Why because their negroes.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Ohious, So you get on the bus with these baloney sandwiches,
- 2:42Speaker 1: but today, what are you gonna have it?
- 2:43Speaker 2: Oh So anyway, so once I got here and I
- 2:45Speaker 2: started to coming up and one of the things that
- 2:48Speaker 2: I men didn't have a lot of money for food
- 2:49Speaker 2: because I didn't really eat a lot so and I
- 2:53Speaker 2: was just always got my go to and that is
- 2:56Speaker 2: can you hear me? Junk show? And I'm sorry, and
- 3:00Speaker 2: this is a good plug. So y'all can send me
- 3:02Speaker 2: some spam spam spam, egg and cheese. And I would
- 3:07Speaker 2: eat that every So I would eat it for breakfast,
- 3:09Speaker 2: and I would eat it for dinner and lunch every
- 3:12Speaker 2: single day because I had a whole thing. So I
- 3:14Speaker 2: could eat that that that'd be breakfast, and that'd be lunch,
- 3:16Speaker 2: and that'd be dinner. But you gotta kind of fix
- 3:19Speaker 2: it up. Now, can't just eat spam because spam is
- 3:21Speaker 2: a little too salty.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Yeah, I've had this on the show before and I
- 3:25Speaker 1: try to slither of it once, like just straight out
- 3:27Speaker 1: the cant and it was extremely salty.
- 3:30Speaker 2: It's very salty. But that's why if I put my
- 3:32Speaker 2: egg in the cheese, that's gonna you know, kind of
- 3:35Speaker 2: dilute the salt because you I don't have to put
- 3:37Speaker 2: any salt in the eggs because that helps with the eggs.
- 3:39Speaker 2: So it takes a little bit. And then you put
- 3:40Speaker 2: that miracle whip on our mayonnaise. You put that miracle
- 3:43Speaker 2: whip on him.
- 3:44Speaker 1: I love how you were very like, don't forget the
- 3:45Speaker 1: miracle whip.
- 3:46Speaker 2: Nope, you can't forget the miracle. I wouldn't. I don't
- 3:48Speaker 2: think if I made a sandwich, so funny because that's
- 3:52Speaker 2: the commercial to have. If I made a sandwich and
- 3:55Speaker 2: I ran to get the America whip after it was
- 3:56Speaker 2: already and there wasn't any, I probably wouldn't eat the sandwich.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Really. Wow, Okay, that's how important it is.
- 4:02Speaker 2: That's how important it is.
- 4:03Speaker 1: All right, So while you start cooking, so you have
- 4:06Speaker 1: the just so all our listeners know we have the spam,
- 4:09Speaker 1: the bread, the egg, the cheese, and the miracle with
- 4:13Speaker 1: this meal is less than a couple of bucks, right,
- 4:16Speaker 1: you know exactly?
- 4:17Speaker 2: Yeah, you won't know. For bread and and and and
- 4:19Speaker 2: and and the cannon spam could last you two days,
- 4:21Speaker 2: that's crazy. And and a carton of eggs. I'm straight
- 4:24Speaker 2: for the week. Cut some slash, cut two pieces real thin,
- 4:27Speaker 2: but then cook an.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Egg two But you started eating this when you started
- 4:32Speaker 1: booking gigs or oh no, it's a rotation between blowney
- 4:36Speaker 1: sandwiches and.
- 4:37Speaker 2: No, no, no no. I ate that when I was
- 4:39Speaker 2: coming out, you know, because that was that could last
- 4:41Speaker 2: the longest. And you go the furthest and and and
- 4:44Speaker 2: like I said, I still eat today.
- 4:45Speaker 1: I probably still will eat it today.
- 4:47Speaker 2: I got probably five cans right now. I have never
- 4:49Speaker 2: been without spam. What absolutely all right?
- 4:53Speaker 1: You know Hawaii Sam Eggs sandwich maker, I've ever tried.
- 4:58Speaker 2: Okay, you gotta be a spam lover. You're ever been
- 5:01Speaker 2: to Hawaii? No, Hawaii. It's the number one met in Hawaii.
- 5:05Speaker 2: It's the number one spam Burger's spam, egg and cheese
- 5:09Speaker 2: breakfast in McDonald's line around the corner. It's the number
- 5:13Speaker 2: one selling breakfast in every single fast food has it
- 5:18Speaker 2: only only Hawaii. They have spam burgers, spam breakfast, uh,
- 5:21Speaker 2: spam burritos, everything, and that's all they eat because.
- 5:24Speaker 1: You probably love it there, you're like, I did, hello, And.
- 5:30Speaker 2: That's because of you know, the world with the war.
- 5:32Speaker 2: When they were having a tournament camps, that's what they
- 5:34Speaker 2: gave them. They dropped spam in them, so it became
- 5:36Speaker 2: like a staple.
- 5:37Speaker 1: It's funny. I was talking to my girlfriend yesterday and
- 5:41Speaker 1: sometimes when we'll go out to eat, they'll order bone
- 5:43Speaker 1: marrow and I look at her and I'm like, yo,
- 5:45Speaker 1: I can't believe people are paying for bone marrow. Like
- 5:48Speaker 1: when I was a kid, my mom would like force
- 5:50Speaker 1: us to eat it, and that was like something you
- 5:52Speaker 1: ate and you're broke, not when you're wait.
- 5:55Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, And now it's like really expensive.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Yeah. My girlfriend was like, and when we order marrow,
- 6:00Speaker 1: don't say nothing at the table. I'm like, I'm sorry.
- 6:03Speaker 1: It just baffles me that you guys are literally eating
- 6:05Speaker 1: it like it's.
- 6:07Speaker 2: Wait, okay. So I've never had what this bone marrow tastes.
- 6:10Speaker 2: It is.
- 6:11Speaker 1: It is basically like fat grease in the bone. I
- 6:15Speaker 1: don't know. Maybe it has a little bit of taste
- 6:17Speaker 1: to it. I'm Jamaica. You have yeah, my mom, you
- 6:20Speaker 1: know that in Jamaica that's like the best part of
- 6:23Speaker 1: the meal. But growing up, it was.
- 6:25Speaker 2: Like, wait, what does it taste like? It's for the viewers,
- 6:29Speaker 2: like soap.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Looks like the meat juices, I guess like the meat
- 6:35Speaker 1: it tastes.
- 6:35Speaker 2: It's like if you cook something and then it has
- 6:37Speaker 2: some like leftover stuff and you break the things, it
- 6:41Speaker 2: tastes horrible. Let me tell you what about chits.
- 6:45Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 6:46Speaker 2: I don't have you ever had chien?
- 6:47Speaker 1: I feel like I have.
- 6:48Speaker 2: But you know, that's like the grossest thing you can eat.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Really, it is really I don't know, because I as
- 6:54Speaker 1: a Jamaican, I eat tripe. You don't tripe, how stomach.
- 6:58Speaker 2: I think that's what that's not.
- 7:02Speaker 1: You know, if you have cow silming, okay, it'll be
- 7:04Speaker 1: really chewy. It'll be the chewiest mi or that's how
- 7:06Speaker 1: that's chilling.
- 7:07Speaker 2: Chiling is the part what the go through. That's why
- 7:10Speaker 2: the whole house stink.
- 7:11Speaker 1: Oh no, yeah, I don't know.
- 7:13Speaker 2: But and I hated Chitling's and because the whole house
- 7:16Speaker 2: stink because you know, it's got this stuff in And
- 7:18Speaker 2: but then I went to a family reunion in North
- 7:20Speaker 2: Carolina because I was raised in North Carolina. The mom
- 7:23Speaker 2: she I was born in New York. My mother was
- 7:25Speaker 2: the writer of it. It's a Man's World, James Brown's
- 7:27Speaker 2: biggest hit. And I was born in New York.
- 7:31Speaker 1: Did you guys grew up with a lot of money?
- 7:32Speaker 1: Because she wrote that she did.
- 7:33Speaker 2: We didn't. She did, but we didn't. That's a whole
- 7:37Speaker 2: another story. No, none of that. It's a whole freaking
- 7:40Speaker 2: other story. She gave us to our grandmother when we
- 7:44Speaker 2: were three so she can go back to New York
- 7:46Speaker 2: and whatever. And but she gave us to our grandma.
- 7:50Speaker 2: So I at three, I went to North Carolina. I
- 7:51Speaker 2: was raised on a farm. Okay, so I forgot where
- 7:55Speaker 2: we were going with that.
- 7:55Speaker 1: But yeah, oh you got a good story. Will start
- 7:58Speaker 1: cooking for me please.
- 8:00Speaker 2: I'm gonna tell you some spam. I don't tell the
- 8:02Speaker 2: people how to do it, but you gotta bust it out.
- 8:04Speaker 1: You gotta bust it out now.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Wait, you gotta turn it on. How the hell? I
- 8:08Speaker 2: don't know how to do all that.
- 8:09Speaker 1: You don't cook at home?
- 8:10Speaker 2: Now? Yeah, but I got the old fire ones the gas.
- 8:14Speaker 1: Look, I love when people do this, just for the record,
- 8:16Speaker 1: so everybody knows we have fake insurance at our studio.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Did you really just put your hand on it on
- 8:23Speaker 1: the red I just.
- 8:24Speaker 2: Want to make sure it's working.
- 8:26Speaker 1: I don't know what anybody would turn a stove on
- 8:29Speaker 1: and put their hand directly on it, but we do
- 8:31Speaker 1: not have insurance here. So if anything were to happen. Oh,
- 8:35Speaker 1: that's how you get it out, Okay. I was wondering
- 8:39Speaker 1: that the whole time. So you just put some air
- 8:42Speaker 1: in the bottles and it comes right out ktch.
- 8:45Speaker 2: It hat okay, and then you gotta slice it. Now,
- 8:47Speaker 2: it's not good when you make it really really fat.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Actually, the smell of it. You used to this, but.
- 8:54Speaker 2: You don't like this, man, smell like old socks. You
- 9:00Speaker 2: can eat some.
- 9:01Speaker 1: I'm gonna eat. You have to cook for both of us, oh,
- 9:04Speaker 1: for two people today.
- 9:05Speaker 2: Hey, you're the woman you're supposed to be cooking.
- 9:07Speaker 1: I can tell you how, nah man, on this show,
- 9:10Speaker 1: I get to see y'all cook for me. Okay, that's
- 9:12Speaker 1: good enough, all right? And then okay, so we got
- 9:17Speaker 1: the thin slices. So take me back to what was
- 9:20Speaker 1: going on exactly in the moment that you were eating
- 9:23Speaker 1: this spam sandwich. Is at the earliest, since you still
- 9:26Speaker 1: like them.
- 9:27Speaker 2: Oh, at the earliest, like when I was coming.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Let's say, let's just say, well, yeah, yeah, let's go back,
- 9:33Speaker 1: because I feel like your mom situation sounds a little interesting.
- 9:36Speaker 2: To Okay, let's go back. Do you want to talk about.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Let's start with your mom. Okay, because it's it's kind
- 9:44Speaker 1: of interesting, it is, Okay, Let me.
- 9:45Speaker 2: Story my mother, right, My mother was wild. Put to
- 9:49Speaker 2: you that way. She was wild, and my mom ran
- 9:52Speaker 2: away from home at sixteen.
- 9:54Speaker 1: Runs in the family O you go.
- 9:55Speaker 2: To New York to become in business because she wanted
- 9:57Speaker 2: to be it. And my mother the first TV show,
- 10:00Speaker 2: it was the first American bandstand music show, was called Hullabaloo.
- 10:05Speaker 2: It was way back when we were little, and they
- 10:08Speaker 2: had all these girls up in these little things in
- 10:11Speaker 2: the back while the different things. Stevie Smoker, Robinson and
- 10:14Speaker 2: all of these people would come on. It was huge.
- 10:16Speaker 2: It was bigger American bandstand time. And she was one
- 10:18Speaker 2: of the girls that was up in those in those
- 10:20Speaker 2: things with the go go boots because she looked long
- 10:22Speaker 2: and she looked mixed. She had a long hair, and
- 10:24Speaker 2: she was one of those. She was the only black
- 10:25Speaker 2: one up in those little go go boots. You can
- 10:27Speaker 2: see it actually online. Yeah, and and she was dating
- 10:32Speaker 2: my mother. This is done, Scott truth. My mother was
- 10:35Speaker 2: a most dropped there gorgeous girl. She was so wild.
- 10:39Speaker 2: She ran away from home to go to New York.
- 10:42Speaker 2: And she left and she was there all by herself, sixteen,
- 10:45Speaker 2: beautiful and just living there by itself. She date Muhammed
- 10:50Speaker 2: Ali would pick her up, drop her off. Jackiet Robinson
- 10:53Speaker 2: would pick her up later, drop her off. I can't
- 10:57Speaker 2: say this other person. Why I can't because I don't
- 11:04Speaker 2: just tell it. Well, anyway, I'm not gonna tell you him.
- 11:06Speaker 2: But all of my other brother my mom had seven
- 11:09Speaker 2: sons each year she was soon they got three, gave
- 11:11Speaker 2: him to my mother soon as she got three, gave
- 11:13Speaker 2: me back to my mother. Three of my brother's fathers
- 11:17Speaker 2: are very super famous musicians. One of them, every time
- 11:21Speaker 2: he goes through the airport, they go and they called
- 11:24Speaker 2: that other call his name his dad's name. Looks like
- 11:27Speaker 2: he spit him out. And then when you go back
- 11:31Speaker 2: and look at the show, you see that singer on
- 11:34Speaker 2: you see my mom in the background. My brother was
- 11:35Speaker 2: born in next year, then the other the famous group,
- 11:39Speaker 2: my other brothers, and none of our none of them know,
- 11:42Speaker 2: none of them, we none of us know. But but anyway,
- 11:45Speaker 2: none of us know what our fathers.
- 11:48Speaker 1: Are you serious?
- 11:50Speaker 2: So we were so we were all raised in North Carolina.
- 11:53Speaker 2: So that's how. And when my mom would come home,
- 11:55Speaker 2: it would be like sug Avy. I swear I thought
- 11:57Speaker 2: that movie that somebody had actually someone that actually sold
- 12:01Speaker 2: her story because it was like that whole neighborhood James
- 12:04Speaker 2: Brown when she was dating James Brown when she wrote
- 12:06Speaker 2: the song That's Why. But he actually came to in
- 12:09Speaker 2: North Carolina. One, you have no clue this her story?
- 12:16Speaker 1: Damn that sounds good, all right, continue, So none of
- 12:18Speaker 1: you guys, so none of you guys.
- 12:19Speaker 2: Met your dad's I don't think she knew.
- 12:23Speaker 1: So was your dad?
- 12:24Speaker 2: My dad was some Dominican guy she met in New York.
- 12:28Speaker 2: And what happened with my dad? My dad? I guess
- 12:30Speaker 2: the story was my dad was I bought her or
- 12:33Speaker 2: some dress to go out to some party and she
- 12:36Speaker 2: was supposed to meet him, and and then he got
- 12:38Speaker 2: everything ready and by the time how did I turn
- 12:40Speaker 2: this up?
- 12:41Speaker 1: I think you got it up pretty high.
- 12:43Speaker 2: Okay, good. So then he goes to her club and
- 12:48Speaker 2: he's looking for and looking for her, and he finds
- 12:50Speaker 2: on the club with that dress on, sitting in another
- 12:52Speaker 2: guy's lap. He started chasing her and he sliced her,
- 12:56Speaker 2: sliced her butt. She's completely old, no what. And that's
- 12:59Speaker 2: when she took me to North Carolina. I never met him.
- 13:04Speaker 2: They don't know who he is, never met him. But
- 13:06Speaker 2: my mom said one time she saw when I was
- 13:08Speaker 2: on a Little did he know? And when I was
- 13:10Speaker 2: first TV show, I was on tour of duty. I
- 13:12Speaker 2: was gonna make like making twenty twenty seven thousand, five
- 13:15Speaker 2: hundred dollars a week, and I was dying to find
- 13:18Speaker 2: him and help him out. And she said she saw
- 13:20Speaker 2: him when they and told him, your son want to
- 13:22Speaker 2: talk to him. He said, okay, we'll come back. He
- 13:23Speaker 2: working tomorrow. When she went back there next day, he
- 13:25Speaker 2: had quit because he thought she wanted money. Oh so
- 13:28Speaker 2: I never knew my father. Oh wow, I always wanted
- 13:32Speaker 2: to know, you know, you see. Yeah, see people their
- 13:34Speaker 2: dad didn't want know what it was like.
- 13:36Speaker 1: Yeah, so, but you don't even know his name or anything.
- 13:39Speaker 2: Miguel Anna I'm a junior.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Okay.
- 13:42Speaker 2: He was from Dominican Republic. He was worked at a
- 13:44Speaker 2: zipper factory. I got that stuff. But even when I
- 13:46Speaker 2: tried to look him up in New York and I
- 13:48Speaker 2: looked up Miguel Nunya that set seven hundred and forty
- 13:51Speaker 2: two million. And then they said, well, you know, you
- 13:54Speaker 2: go to those places where they used to live, they
- 13:56Speaker 2: never leave because my mom was in the same place. Yeah,
- 13:58Speaker 2: so she took me to where she said it was
- 14:00Speaker 2: his mom or his grandmother some house, and they would
- 14:02Speaker 2: they were look, they would't open the door. I don't
- 14:06Speaker 2: really know. I gave up, but anyway, so that's how
- 14:08Speaker 2: we ended up in North Carolina.
- 14:10Speaker 1: Okay, so you end up being raised by your grandmother.
- 14:15Speaker 1: Is your mom at least sending money back to take
- 14:17Speaker 1: care of y'all?
- 14:18Speaker 2: Well she was doing that for Yes, she was sending
- 14:20Speaker 2: money to take care of us.
- 14:21Speaker 1: Yes, yes, yes, definitely, you guys still had a good relationship.
- 14:26Speaker 2: No, no, no, my mom. Uh. First of all, like
- 14:33Speaker 2: a player.
- 14:34Speaker 3: First of all, the the the the m v P
- 14:39Speaker 3: of players, absolute play, I give you the sugar, right, Yeah,
- 14:44Speaker 3: it was that.
- 14:45Speaker 2: It really was that. The whole neighborhood would be there,
- 14:47Speaker 2: everybody looking down the street.
- 14:50Speaker 1: We're gonna pull a picture of your mom.
- 14:52Speaker 2: Okay, there's one online. We heard in her first coat
- 14:54Speaker 2: and and uh we call it Betty Jean because we
- 15:00Speaker 2: and allowed to call her mother.
- 15:02Speaker 1: Okay, I heard.
- 15:03Speaker 2: At least twenty times in my life. Don't ever call
- 15:06Speaker 2: me mother. I have never had an ugly style. I
- 15:08Speaker 2: like you before in my life? Ugly what child? Like
- 15:11Speaker 2: you before? In my life?
- 15:12Speaker 1: What she would say that life you got? Yeah, you
- 15:15Speaker 1: got it?
- 15:15Speaker 2: But now she lives with me? No way.
- 15:19Speaker 1: This is a crazy question. I really shouldn't ask it,
- 15:22Speaker 1: but I'm curious because because now that I'm older and
- 15:24Speaker 1: I meet guys that have like some kind of mommy
- 15:29Speaker 1: dynamic that's a little off. Did you have any type
- 15:32Speaker 1: of this is terrible?
- 15:35Speaker 2: But I ain't no terrible And if you're going to
- 15:37Speaker 2: start being I'm gonna be.
- 15:40Speaker 1: Okay, do you have Do you have mommy issues?
- 15:43Speaker 2: Well?
- 15:43Speaker 1: In your relationships?
- 15:45Speaker 2: I think so because when I'm with a girl, I
- 15:47Speaker 2: like to be with them. I'm very affectionate. I just
- 15:49Speaker 2: do all the things that I didn't get, so I
- 15:51Speaker 2: think I do.
- 15:52Speaker 1: Okay as a woman ever said that to you?
- 15:54Speaker 2: Though?
- 15:55Speaker 1: I just, I just, I know it is women love affections.
- 15:58Speaker 1: So I'm sure they were like.
- 15:59Speaker 2: Yeah, because my mind. Because here's when my mom come on.
- 16:03Speaker 2: She would give us money, and all everybody else would
- 16:05Speaker 2: run out of the house and go spend it. Cause
- 16:06Speaker 2: back then she would hundred hundred I know that. Back
- 16:09Speaker 2: then that's like a thousand. Yeah, except me. I take
- 16:12Speaker 2: my mother put in the pocket. I would go in
- 16:13Speaker 2: because we couldn't be around there more than two minutes,
- 16:16Speaker 2: all right, And and I used to go in everyone
- 16:19Speaker 2: do and look, everyone, you want another room? I would
- 16:21Speaker 2: go and look and stay there. When she would leave,
- 16:23Speaker 2: I would go into her room and I would take
- 16:24Speaker 2: her and take her clothes and spread them all home,
- 16:28Speaker 2: right them across my pillow because she always wore the
- 16:30Speaker 2: most expensive perfume. So they would do all I never
- 16:34Speaker 2: left they did. They would all run.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Were you the baby, middle child?
- 16:37Speaker 2: Ye, oldest, second oldest?
- 16:40Speaker 1: Oh wow, I like how you're smashing the breath. Okay,
- 16:44Speaker 1: So you you definitely adored your mom?
- 16:46Speaker 2: Oh well, well, I mean yeah, I adored the thought
- 16:49Speaker 2: of her. I adored the thought of her. I didn't
- 16:51Speaker 2: really know her.
- 16:52Speaker 1: What did your grandma say about your mom? Did she
- 16:54Speaker 1: talk negative or never.
- 16:56Speaker 2: Never, she never said anything about her. We never heard
- 17:00Speaker 2: anything about her. And then she would come home. I say,
- 17:03Speaker 2: in my entire life growing up, I saw her probably
- 17:09Speaker 2: and she was home probably twenty times for two or
- 17:13Speaker 2: three days. I probably saw her twenty minutes. Wow, that
- 17:19Speaker 2: was all we were allowed. And never knew when she left.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Oh, she didn't even say goodbye.
- 17:23Speaker 2: We were like, where's the Jeanet boy, get your skinny
- 17:25Speaker 2: ice out here? She left two days ago? Never ever?
- 17:28Speaker 1: Wow, okay, so take me back to uh damn. So
- 17:36Speaker 1: was she rich? I'm just curious she was? And okay,
- 17:43Speaker 1: And but you you didn't really necessarily see the fruits
- 17:45Speaker 1: of that labor. You just saw it when she came.
- 17:47Speaker 2: The only thing we saw when she came home, when
- 17:49Speaker 2: she had about twenty million dollars worth of jury on
- 17:52Speaker 2: and and and and gave stacks on hundreds to my
- 17:54Speaker 2: grandparents in them and then like my little brother, my brother,
- 17:59Speaker 2: and now who's here my other brother, right, Frankie, when
- 18:04Speaker 2: they first came home, when she first brought them home,
- 18:06Speaker 2: and I wish I had that photo when she first
- 18:08Speaker 2: brought them home to leave, when they got three, she
- 18:12Speaker 2: had on a Frankie. He was probably three. He had
- 18:16Speaker 2: on a little white mink coat original meat, probably about
- 18:20Speaker 2: two thousand and three thousand dollars, little mink white boots
- 18:23Speaker 2: and a mink white hat. And he had on a
- 18:25Speaker 2: black one, oh wow. And she had on a black
- 18:28Speaker 2: and white one. And she always came home with She
- 18:32Speaker 2: loves to have stacks of money on her that's her
- 18:36Speaker 2: favorite thing on the planet.
- 18:39Speaker 1: Your mom was definitely a player. Okay, okay, she's one
- 18:41Speaker 1: hundred player hot lady, Okay, yeah, but.
- 18:46Speaker 2: She know she was. She's older now, and you know,
- 18:49Speaker 2: I'm taking care of her because you know she's a
- 18:51Speaker 2: little she's eighty four years old, but she's still like
- 18:53Speaker 2: she's sixteen. She wants to go out every.
- 18:56Speaker 1: Club, no way, really.
- 18:59Speaker 2: Oh my god. There's no difference than her now and
- 19:02Speaker 2: when she was sixteen now.
- 19:03Speaker 1: So like she'll get up at like nine o'clock and
- 19:06Speaker 1: be like, I'm going out.
- 19:07Speaker 2: And no she can't, but I have a driver take her.
- 19:10Speaker 2: Wish it. But if you said, if I say, if
- 19:14Speaker 2: like right now, she was like, where y'all go? And
- 19:16Speaker 2: we told her where we're going? Why y'all could have
- 19:17Speaker 2: told men, she'll jump up and get ready and be
- 19:19Speaker 2: ready to go, no matter where you're going, no matter
- 19:22Speaker 2: what you're doing, always in the mix.
- 19:24Speaker 1: Okay, Okay, so I'm gonna skip to the part where
- 19:29Speaker 1: you decide to run away.
- 19:31Speaker 2: Okay.
- 19:31Speaker 1: So, well, before that, you said, from the age of sixties.
- 19:35Speaker 2: Since I was born, I said I was going to
- 19:37Speaker 2: move move to Hollywood.
- 19:38Speaker 1: Okay, And where do you think that that?
- 19:40Speaker 2: I don't know because I this is before I even
- 19:42Speaker 2: knew my mam was even involved. This is before I'd
- 19:44Speaker 2: ever even watched television. It was the first thing I
- 19:47Speaker 2: ever said I was going to do it. And to this.
- 19:49Speaker 1: Day, watch out that that's melting?
- 19:51Speaker 2: What on that sh shit? You're hilarious, idiot? Oh thank
- 19:56Speaker 2: god you're here. And to this day I still say,
- 19:59Speaker 2: and I I tell people, I don't know where it
- 20:01Speaker 2: came from. Every side way, your mama's doing it. No,
- 20:04Speaker 2: But that was before I was saying I wanted to
- 20:06Speaker 2: be a movie star. And now that I think about it,
- 20:08Speaker 2: that was even before I even knew what a movie
- 20:10Speaker 2: star was. I didn't even think I had watched television yet. Wow.
- 20:13Speaker 1: Okay, So take me back to when you start plotting
- 20:19Speaker 1: on running Away, because it was it wasn't.
- 20:22Speaker 2: Oh, it was just it was never every day. I
- 20:25Speaker 2: had already had my job. I was working. I knew
- 20:27Speaker 2: what I was gonna do Friday, Da da dah. I
- 20:28Speaker 2: was planning the whole thing. And I'd got a job
- 20:30Speaker 2: and I got my first check. It was God, that's
- 20:33Speaker 2: how I know. And literally I was like out of
- 20:37Speaker 2: the clipbl the s guys to shoot. This is enough
- 20:38Speaker 2: to get to Hollywood, packed a little suitcase and made
- 20:53Speaker 2: me three blown the sandwiches. Which one is this one?
- 20:57Speaker 1: The one that you're touching another one? Yeah?
- 21:01Speaker 2: And it down.
- 21:04Speaker 1: And I literally you be leaving all this stuff on
- 21:07Speaker 1: the You're hilarious. How do you cook at home? You
- 21:10Speaker 1: put he puts like tissues, uh, spatulas on the stove
- 21:14Speaker 1: like everything.
- 21:14Speaker 2: You're not no, no, but see if it was fire, I
- 21:16Speaker 2: wouldn't because I see it. But now this looked like
- 21:19Speaker 2: a cabinet.
- 21:20Speaker 1: Okay, So so you so you run away from home.
- 21:24Speaker 1: What's what's the letter in a note saying?
- 21:26Speaker 2: I said, I said, where's that note? I said, I
- 21:30Speaker 2: know somebody had a long time ago. I don't even
- 21:32Speaker 2: know they had found it, But I don't know. I
- 21:34Speaker 2: should have went home and got it I kept one
- 21:36Speaker 2: that I got when I was living at the Union
- 21:37Speaker 2: Rescue Mission. When I had been at the Union Rescue
- 21:39Speaker 2: Mission for a long time and I finally decided to
- 21:41Speaker 2: write home. And I was so excited to get this.
- 21:44Speaker 2: You got a letter, And I was like, and I
- 21:46Speaker 2: got opened up and all I opened up. All I
- 21:48Speaker 2: said was call home food, Call home food. I swear
- 21:52Speaker 2: to God. And I found that letter. I got it.
- 21:54Speaker 2: That was from aunt, But that was.
- 21:56Speaker 1: From your aunt. Shout out to the aunt.
- 21:58Speaker 2: But listen, I just literally thought of at that minute
- 22:01Speaker 2: and did it and went home and I went to
- 22:04Speaker 2: the bus station. Matter of fact, the last person I
- 22:06Speaker 2: saw was him sneaking to school late when I left
- 22:08Speaker 2: North Carolina.
- 22:09Speaker 1: Yeah, and you know what you were up?
- 22:11Speaker 2: Nobody did. Nobody did, Okay, nobody did. Okay, what am
- 22:16Speaker 2: I gonna do? Okay, girl, you about to get it.
- 22:21Speaker 1: Don't you have to make four slices of bread?
- 22:23Speaker 2: Nope, I'm gonna just eat a half a sandwich. You're
- 22:25Speaker 2: gonna eat half?
- 22:26Speaker 1: Okay? Okay?
- 22:27Speaker 2: Oh I should have made two squad them. Okay.
- 22:30Speaker 1: So now, oh, you know, at one point, what are
- 22:32Speaker 1: you gonna cook? Eggs? I love judging you you're a
- 22:37Speaker 1: great storyteller.
- 22:38Speaker 2: By the way, it's easy when it's coming from here.
- 22:43Speaker 1: So okay, so you run, so you're you run away
- 22:47Speaker 1: below the sandwich.
- 22:48Speaker 2: I walked down the street walk that and this is
- 22:49Speaker 2: I know is God because it's like fifteen people in
- 22:53Speaker 2: the house because all my brothers are there, seven brothers
- 22:56Speaker 2: plus my five aunts, and so there's never a time
- 22:59Speaker 2: where there's nobody in the house.
- 23:00Speaker 1: So it was my grandmother that raised you. It was
- 23:02Speaker 1: your arms, Tair, it.
- 23:03Speaker 2: Was my grandmother. They had five daughters, so they took
- 23:05Speaker 2: us in and they was all of a sudden in
- 23:06Speaker 2: the same house. So there was never time there was
- 23:08Speaker 2: nobody there. So when I walk home and get home,
- 23:11Speaker 2: there's nobody there.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Oh that's how you know it was God.
- 23:14Speaker 2: Exactly, you walked in like, oh shoot, I said, I said,
- 23:18Speaker 2: I said, I said my mother. I said, I'm running.
- 23:22Speaker 2: I'm going to Hollywood and make something of myself. That's
- 23:25Speaker 2: exactly what I said. And and I just went down
- 23:29Speaker 2: to walked down the train track, and I would look
- 23:32Speaker 2: think about all the memories. And I got in the
- 23:33Speaker 2: bus and I was hiding because the bus station in
- 23:36Speaker 2: the middle of town, and my grandparents have to pass
- 23:38Speaker 2: there to come home from work. So I was just
- 23:40Speaker 2: in the back holding down. As soon as the bus
- 23:41Speaker 2: start taking off, I never once realized the seriousness of
- 23:45Speaker 2: what I had, did not even eyeoda I saw geting
- 23:49Speaker 2: on that bus and where I am now. There was
- 23:53Speaker 2: no doubt in my mind what soever I was gonna
- 23:56Speaker 2: be where I'm man. None, none, that's what I saw.
- 24:00Speaker 2: I figured. I didn't know what the hell was gonna
- 24:02Speaker 2: happen in the middle, but whatever that was, it's gonna
- 24:05Speaker 2: work out, because I know that's gonna happen.
- 24:06Speaker 1: Yeah, Yeah, it's certain.
- 24:08Speaker 2: Certain, one hundred percent. Now that's the difference between that's
- 24:12Speaker 2: what you gotta have. You don't one hundred percent truly
- 24:15Speaker 2: absolutely believe in yourself and what you do, you're gonna
- 24:18Speaker 2: end up turning back if you nobody could go through
- 24:21Speaker 2: what I went through. And I'm gonna share tell you,
- 24:23Speaker 2: nobody could go through it. Sleeping behind the bus station,
- 24:26Speaker 2: waking up with lice every day and having to get
- 24:28Speaker 2: sprayed with poison and and that's the kind of stuff
- 24:31Speaker 2: that make people turn around and go back home. Yeah,
- 24:33Speaker 2: they can't take it because somebody told them they were cute,
- 24:36Speaker 2: somebody told them that they can. They were a good actor,
- 24:39Speaker 2: and they didn't really have the desire the desire with
- 24:42Speaker 2: somebody else. I used to sit on the porch my uncle,
- 24:45Speaker 2: who was a Cadillac dealer. He would come home for
- 24:48Speaker 2: family union, and once he had a Cadillact that had
- 24:52Speaker 2: hollyo A California license plates, and I was about eleven
- 24:55Speaker 2: years old. I sat outside on the street touching it
- 24:59Speaker 2: all day long, going, this car is in California. That's
- 25:02Speaker 2: where I'm gonna leave. You really left where I knew it.
- 25:06Speaker 2: I knew it, and and that's why you got it.
- 25:09Speaker 1: You can't pinpoint what was the initial trigger or how
- 25:12Speaker 1: you found out about it. I found out about what
- 25:14Speaker 1: like Hollywood and all that.
- 25:16Speaker 2: I don't know where it came from my mom, but
- 25:18Speaker 2: we had that regular encyclopedia thing and that people have
- 25:22Speaker 2: bring and every time I would come home, I would
- 25:25Speaker 2: run home and grab a Psyclepe and look up Hollywood
- 25:27Speaker 2: and just read everything I could on Hollywood, and I
- 25:29Speaker 2: would send letters.
- 25:30Speaker 1: I love that there's an encyclopedia involved in this story.
- 25:34Speaker 2: The old one, and that's what I did. And I
- 25:38Speaker 2: mean I just knew, I just knew I was I
- 25:39Speaker 2: didn't know why I was gonna do it, and I
- 25:41Speaker 2: never realized the seriousness of what I'd done until I
- 25:43Speaker 2: actually got here, because I ended up. I went to
- 25:47Speaker 2: the bus station and I said, can I get a
- 25:48Speaker 2: ticket to a thought like this? When I first got here,
- 25:50Speaker 2: my nickname was country boy, so I talked this like
- 25:53Speaker 2: this A nice my name again, New Years. I from
- 25:55Speaker 2: West North Carolina. I want to be a actor. I
- 25:57Speaker 2: was gonna get a ticket of Hollywood. He said no,
- 26:00Speaker 2: And I thought you had to be an actor to
- 26:01Speaker 2: get in Hollywood, which I found out later as I
- 26:04Speaker 2: was at the trailway station. Trailway goes downtown, Oh, skid Row,
- 26:09Speaker 2: Oh Greyhound, I went to Hollywood. I didn't know that.
- 26:11Speaker 2: I just thought you had to be an actor. So
- 26:13Speaker 2: he said you can go to Los Angeles, and I
- 26:15Speaker 2: said okay. When I got me a ticket and hid
- 26:17Speaker 2: in the back and I just got here. I had
- 26:19Speaker 2: about twenty eight dollars and two dollars when I land,
- 26:22Speaker 2: and I thought I was gonna get here six and
- 26:26Speaker 2: main the worst place ever, right across from a bus station.
- 26:29Speaker 2: I thought it was going to be the movie Star
- 26:30Speaker 2: lights and I was to meet somebody, and that was
- 26:32Speaker 2: going to be it. And it wasn't until I got
- 26:33Speaker 2: here on the worst possible street. You come, man, skid row. Yeah,
- 26:38Speaker 2: and then I look outside. That was the first time
- 26:40Speaker 2: I won. I realized seriousness of what I had done.
- 26:43Speaker 1: You're like, wait a minute, wait a minute, this is
- 26:44Speaker 1: the Hollywood I mentioned. So then what was your initial thought?
- 26:47Speaker 1: Were you like, oh shit, because you said that's when
- 26:50Speaker 1: you realize the gratitude of what you did.
- 26:52Speaker 2: What I did. What I did was no, no, I did.
- 26:55Speaker 2: I tried to sleep in the bus station. He kicked
- 26:57Speaker 2: me out, So you can't stay in the bus station.
- 26:59Speaker 2: So he me out of the bus station. And then
- 27:01Speaker 2: I said I would walk around in the street and
- 27:03Speaker 2: walk around in the streets and walk around the street.
- 27:04Speaker 2: And I had one of those box raizors that we
- 27:06Speaker 2: keeping in a climb. So I had two dollars left.
- 27:10Speaker 2: And there was an all night movie theater. That's a
- 27:13Speaker 2: place for one dollar.
- 27:14Speaker 1: Oh smart, oh good.
- 27:15Speaker 2: So I was go in the movie theater. Yeah right,
- 27:17Speaker 2: So I go in the movie. There I'm sitting in
- 27:18Speaker 2: my seats and I had to put my feet up
- 27:20Speaker 2: like this because.
- 27:20Speaker 1: There's rats running around and in the movie theater and
- 27:23Speaker 1: I'm like this.
- 27:25Speaker 2: Every five minutes. I wait five and I got my
- 27:27Speaker 2: razor right here like this. And this was just God
- 27:32Speaker 2: protecting me, giving me a warning early. And I'm sitting
- 27:35Speaker 2: in the movie theater and all the way down there's
- 27:36Speaker 2: like a few people in there. There's a guy. He
- 27:38Speaker 2: could see a head, and every time I wake up,
- 27:40Speaker 2: the head was closer, closer, closer. And the last time
- 27:42Speaker 2: I walk up some big, nasty, homeless person, when I
- 27:45Speaker 2: popped my raisor out like that, he jumped up and ran.
- 27:48Speaker 2: That was guy's way of telling me to watch out.
- 27:49Speaker 2: So from that point on, I would walk around at
- 27:51Speaker 2: night and sleep in the day.
- 27:53Speaker 1: Oh smart.
- 27:55Speaker 2: So then one time I was sleeping on a park
- 27:57Speaker 2: bench and it was raining and some guy was like, like,
- 27:58Speaker 2: I said, I looked like I was ten. He was like, hey,
- 28:00Speaker 2: what are you doing out here? And I said I
- 28:02Speaker 2: was telling. The guy was like, you know, my name
- 28:03Speaker 2: micguil noony other from what six Ford, the Cemetery Street,
- 28:05Speaker 2: what's north Clown? I came here to be an actor.
- 28:06Speaker 1: I love your accent.
- 28:08Speaker 2: And he was like, oh oh god, he said, while
- 28:11Speaker 2: you on the street And I told him I had
- 28:12Speaker 2: no way to stay, and he said why don't you
- 28:13Speaker 2: go to the mission? I was like, what is that?
- 28:15Speaker 2: So he told me out to the Union Rescue Mission.
- 28:16Speaker 2: I ain't up moving to the Union Rescue Mission. I
- 28:18Speaker 2: lived there for a while, got on welfare, got a job,
- 28:22Speaker 2: quit the job, started sneaking in the studios, getting kicked.
- 28:25Speaker 1: Out, trying to sneaking into acting to the what studios.
- 28:29Speaker 2: I would tell my friends, I want to go into
- 28:31Speaker 2: Universal Studio and I want to take the I want
- 28:34Speaker 2: to go to Universe Studio and I want to walk
- 28:36Speaker 2: around on the sense and I want to see how
- 28:38Speaker 2: it's done and I can learn. They was like, man,
- 28:40Speaker 2: they ain't gonna let you do that. I'm like, ain't
- 28:43Speaker 2: gonna let me go? Nothing to do with that. So
- 28:45Speaker 2: then I went there when Day I said name, my
- 28:46Speaker 2: name is mcgil now short Universal. My name is Miguel
- 28:49Speaker 2: Noon is from Wistle nor Kline. I just want to
- 28:51Speaker 2: walk around. I'm not gonna bother nobody's get your skinny
- 28:53Speaker 2: ass out of here. You can't do that. And I'm like,
- 28:55Speaker 2: he not gonna let you. You can't. Those things don't
- 28:59Speaker 2: compute to me. So I sit around the watch. So
- 29:02Speaker 2: next thing I know, I noticed what's going So I said, okay,
- 29:04Speaker 2: I get how I'm gonna do this. So I saved
- 29:06Speaker 2: my money. I started selling my blood plasma, so so
- 29:10Speaker 2: I saved all my money. And then I take the
- 29:15Speaker 2: Universal's studio tour.
- 29:19Speaker 1: Okay.
- 29:20Speaker 2: And then after a while they said, well, we're gonna
- 29:21Speaker 2: get off here. I went, it's okay. I hope they
- 29:27Speaker 2: can't see this anyway. He goes, all right, guys, we're
- 29:30Speaker 2: gonna go inside this thing here and we're gonna show
- 29:32Speaker 2: you how it's a simulation of how we do TV shows.
- 29:34Speaker 2: I'm like, no, I want to go to the real thing.
- 29:36Speaker 2: So I thought. He said, all right, everybody, come this way,
- 29:38Speaker 2: come this way, come this way, Come this way to
- 29:39Speaker 2: the Traim's gonna pick us up on the other side.
- 29:41Speaker 2: Come this way, come this way. While everybody was coming
- 29:43Speaker 2: this way, coming this way, I went that way, that way,
- 29:44Speaker 2: that way, and I went around and did exactly what
- 29:47Speaker 2: I do everything they said. I couldn't do everything, he
- 29:49Speaker 2: said they won't let me do. And then at the
- 29:51Speaker 2: end of the day, I came in and got on
- 29:52Speaker 2: the last train, and I would go to all those
- 29:54Speaker 2: TV shows and movies and sit at the top of
- 29:56Speaker 2: the thing. They were doing big movies and just sit
- 29:57Speaker 2: there all day and look. And that's how I learned.
- 30:01Speaker 2: That's how you never never take no for an answer,
- 30:04Speaker 2: never ever.
- 30:06Speaker 1: I always say, like, especially, never take no from someone
- 30:09Speaker 1: that doesn't have the ability to say yes. I like that, yeah,
- 30:12Speaker 1: because a lot of people will get rejected. I washed
- 30:15Speaker 1: all the dishes around here. Look at this sandwich. It
- 30:19Speaker 1: looks legit. You know what, guys, I noticed about when
- 30:21Speaker 1: Miguel made his sandwich, which was interesting, is he would
- 30:25Speaker 1: let the butter marinate the bread, and he would like
- 30:27Speaker 1: soak it in there, so you know the sandwich is
- 30:29Speaker 1: gonna taste amazing, just by the way he did the bread.
- 30:35Speaker 1: Just by the way he did the bread he smashed
- 30:38Speaker 1: with the butter. I'm so confident that. Look, Jared, you
- 30:43Speaker 1: want to come in here.
- 30:47Speaker 2: I love it.
- 30:50Speaker 1: You need a little like you need to rewrite your story,
- 30:53Speaker 1: like as a movie.
- 30:55Speaker 2: I just.
- 30:57Speaker 1: You are, Yeah, because it sounds like it would be
- 30:59Speaker 1: a bread y'all have no clue. It sounds like an
- 31:03Speaker 1: absolutely incredible.
- 31:04Speaker 2: Movie faith determination, never giving up.
- 31:07Speaker 1: Yeah you have to isn't an amazing story?
- 31:13Speaker 2: Cage, are you right? Say? I was gonna say, where's
- 31:18Speaker 2: this tea? I love sweet teeth. You love.
- 31:22Speaker 1: I just got a kettle by the way, do you
- 31:24Speaker 1: have one. It's like a kettle that it's like electric thing.
- 31:27Speaker 1: You put the water in, it keeps it up all day.
- 31:30Speaker 1: So your tea, your hot water.
- 31:32Speaker 2: Oh that's a guest today.
- 31:34Speaker 1: You literally have it at my house.
- 31:36Speaker 2: I wish I hadn't bring gifts for your guests.
- 31:38Speaker 1: We're gonna this is. This is very budget consciously.
- 31:42Speaker 2: You got to be professional.
- 31:44Speaker 1: Okay, So this is about to try the sad Are
- 31:46Speaker 1: we going this is? Yeah?
- 31:48Speaker 2: Tell him about my Jared. Are we going? Okay?
- 31:52Speaker 1: So he soaked it in the butter. It looks like
- 31:55Speaker 1: it's gonna taste good. I love that you smashed. It
- 31:57Speaker 1: makes me feel like you are a condoiseur. So we
- 32:00Speaker 1: are gonna see if Miguel can make me switch to spam,
- 32:02Speaker 1: egg and cheese sandwiches with miracle whip.
- 32:10Speaker 2: They're still salty.
- 32:12Speaker 1: It's salty, but it's it's good.
- 32:14Speaker 2: Thank you. Right.
- 32:18Speaker 1: I'm surprised though, not to set off track, but you
- 32:20Speaker 1: see how you wipe my mouth. You're so very nice.
- 32:26Speaker 1: They're minerable. I don't know what the word is, but.
- 32:31Speaker 2: Because of my aunt's I think and you say. I
- 32:34Speaker 2: say that because I think they trained us. I think
- 32:38Speaker 2: they trained us because I swear to God that the
- 32:40Speaker 2: movie would be it was the real Cinderella. Our aunts
- 32:45Speaker 2: were older and they lost a lot of things. When
- 32:48Speaker 2: of them lost their room because we all had the
- 32:49Speaker 2: same room, we had to take their room. They didn't
- 32:52Speaker 2: want to vacations because they had to spend the extra money.
- 32:55Speaker 2: And they were and we were. It was literally Cinderella.
- 32:59Speaker 2: They and made us do everything. We got beatings because
- 33:02Speaker 2: of them. They hated us being there in the beginning.
- 33:05Speaker 2: We've changed, but we had to have all bought us,
- 33:08Speaker 2: had a night. I had watched dishes every Tuesday, my
- 33:10Speaker 2: brother Wednesday.
- 33:12Speaker 1: Oh wow, I thought you were going to say that
- 33:14Speaker 1: they were like extra affectionate with you guys.
- 33:15Speaker 2: Hell no, I a'm affectionate. I don't think I've seen
- 33:18Speaker 2: in my entire life never ever heard, ever heard the
- 33:21Speaker 2: way I love you in our house. It wasn't it
- 33:23Speaker 2: wasn't that kind of a house.
- 33:25Speaker 1: But then yet you end up growing up to be
- 33:27Speaker 1: extra affectionate.
- 33:28Speaker 2: I think it's because you miss it.
- 33:30Speaker 1: Yeah. I noticed with my daughter too. I'm like that,
- 33:33Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, I love you, I love you.
- 33:34Speaker 2: Let me, hug you right.
- 33:37Speaker 1: I'm like, I don't ever want you to feel that feeling.
- 33:39Speaker 2: I could trun do somebody. She was daddy, I can't believe.
- 33:41Speaker 2: I can't believe.
- 33:47Speaker 1: Okay, So take me back to okay. You you're on
- 33:50Speaker 1: the sets, you're learning, and what happens next?
- 33:55Speaker 2: I made it.
- 33:57Speaker 1: It don't sound like it was that fast.
- 33:59Speaker 2: Wait, to be honest with you, I'm lucky because I did.
- 34:10Speaker 1: I was.
- 34:13Speaker 2: Still struggling, and I'm on the bus. I see this
- 34:17Speaker 2: guy going and I'm like, what are you doing? He said,
- 34:22Speaker 2: I'm an actor. I'm going ready to go to this
- 34:23Speaker 2: cattle call. I said, my name Migail Nuoniam six forty
- 34:25Speaker 2: seventire Street, whist North Carolina. I came here to be
- 34:27Speaker 2: an actor. And he was like that. He was telling
- 34:29Speaker 2: me what he was going for, and he was like,
- 34:31Speaker 2: I said, what is that? He's here? This is a resume.
- 34:33Speaker 2: You're gonna have to get one in here. Can I
- 34:34Speaker 2: keep you can keep it? You got to get a resume.
- 34:35Speaker 2: You got to get pictured dah damn. He get ready
- 34:39Speaker 2: to get off again. Sorry, and then he gets off
- 34:43Speaker 2: the bus. He goes in the park and I look
- 34:44Speaker 2: up that see cameras. So the next stop I get off,
- 34:46Speaker 2: I'll go to a Copey place. I'll waite his name out,
- 34:48Speaker 2: put my name in over and make another copy and
- 34:50Speaker 2: go back. Get in a line.
- 34:51Speaker 1: That's hilarious.
- 34:52Speaker 2: I didn't know that. As you're street smart, I didn't
- 34:54Speaker 2: know cattle call that you had to. I didn't know
- 34:57Speaker 2: what a cattle call. You didn't need any of that,
- 34:59Speaker 2: but I didn't.
- 35:00Speaker 1: Oh, I didn't know that.
- 35:01Speaker 2: Yeah, cattle call. What cattle call audition is different. Cattle
- 35:03Speaker 2: calls means they just want to face. They don't give
- 35:05Speaker 2: a damn who you are. A major movie. They looking
- 35:07Speaker 2: for cattle call. They want a new start. So I
- 35:11Speaker 2: get in line and I got the lead in it.
- 35:12Speaker 2: It was a National Genos restaurant commercial and I took that.
- 35:16Speaker 2: He was like I did, and the guy you have
- 35:17Speaker 2: an agent. I was like, now, I'm no conjact. He said,
- 35:21Speaker 2: how did you get in? I said, hey, that guy
- 35:23Speaker 2: right there. And the guy came up. He said, I
- 35:24Speaker 2: said he told me about on the bus. He said,
- 35:25Speaker 2: what you got it? And I was like that and
- 35:28Speaker 2: then he said he said, I'll take him to my agent.
- 35:30Speaker 2: So he takes me to his agent and I get
- 35:33Speaker 2: there and I say my name again, Newia and six
- 35:34Speaker 2: sort Semis Street wasna I come in to be an
- 35:36Speaker 2: eight and he was like, hey, okay, okay, I like you.
- 35:39Speaker 2: I like you. You know what I'm assigning you. I said,
- 35:40Speaker 2: I want to go more of those cattle call things.
- 35:42Speaker 2: See me an audition. I said, yeah, you can have
- 35:44Speaker 2: this money. I want to be in the movies and
- 35:45Speaker 2: the TV.
- 35:45Speaker 1: You said you can have the what this money?
- 35:47Speaker 2: It was a commercial. I'm thinking of the movies and TV.
- 35:49Speaker 2: I didn't know. He said, no, this is on TV.
- 35:51Speaker 2: I didn't know, of course, And he goes.
- 35:53Speaker 1: Did you tell him you can have the money from it?
- 35:55Speaker 2: Yeah, if he said, me on more of those things
- 35:57Speaker 2: for movies and be on TV, okay, you know. So
- 36:00Speaker 2: then he said, ah, it is on TV to so anyway,
- 36:03Speaker 2: he said, yeah, I like you. So he signed me up.
- 36:05Speaker 2: And then I think the next thirty jobs, I probably
- 36:09Speaker 2: got twenty eight of them, thirty eight of them, next forty,
- 36:13Speaker 2: I probably got thirty eight of them.
- 36:14Speaker 1: Wow.
- 36:15Speaker 2: And then three years later I was on a national
- 36:18Speaker 2: on CBS. I hit the show called Tour of Duty
- 36:20Speaker 2: on CBS. Wow. And now I work. I just started working.
- 36:25Speaker 1: That's what I was going to say.
- 36:26Speaker 2: I never stopped working all throughout the eighties and nineties.
- 36:28Speaker 2: I got ninety percent of every job that was.
- 36:31Speaker 1: Out for acting. So you ended up never having to
- 36:33Speaker 1: get a real job again.
- 36:34Speaker 2: I never had a real job again.
- 36:37Speaker 1: WHOA wow. You talk about determination, perseverance, absolutely and focus.
- 36:43Speaker 1: Do you think a lot of the people that helped
- 36:45Speaker 1: you along the way, like the agent wanted to sign you,
- 36:48Speaker 1: they saw that like that, like in a censor.
- 36:52Speaker 2: I think no agents and managers. My first manager was
- 36:58Speaker 2: Sheryl Levane. She's who try to stay with front Hell
- 37:01Speaker 2: if she really did care, I've never had agent that
- 37:03Speaker 2: carried as much as she did. Most agents and managers
- 37:08Speaker 2: they won't give a damn.
- 37:09Speaker 1: Yeah, they just want to check.
- 37:10Speaker 2: They just want to check now. They like if you
- 37:12Speaker 2: if you got that, that it because they know they
- 37:15Speaker 2: can get money. But that's the I don't know if
- 37:17Speaker 2: they truly believe in you, destiny, they truly know, they don't.
- 37:22Speaker 2: They just hoping that you can get as many jobs
- 37:24Speaker 2: being that guy right there, as cute as you can
- 37:26Speaker 2: till I can get somebody else and replace you.
- 37:28Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, what happened to your first manager?
- 37:31Speaker 2: Oh? No, you know just like when you start coming up.
- 37:34Speaker 2: First thing you think, and this is to all your
- 37:35Speaker 2: young guys out there, you know, I gotta go with
- 37:37Speaker 2: the bigger management. I gotta go with the bigger you
- 37:38Speaker 2: show you can go and grow and grow. And all
- 37:39Speaker 2: the big ones started coming after me and I did.
- 37:41Speaker 2: But that's not what you should do.
- 37:42Speaker 1: And I wish I had none, really, yeah, because I
- 37:45Speaker 1: hear that a lot, like, but it's the standard thing.
- 37:50Speaker 2: Oh, you need to go with them now because you're
- 37:51Speaker 2: at a different level. Yeah, and it's like it's been
- 37:54Speaker 2: going that way forever. No one ever ever win. Anybody
- 37:57Speaker 2: say hold on, stay, No, you shouldn't do it, you
- 37:58Speaker 2: should stand it. No one never told that that's that's
- 38:00Speaker 2: what you're supposed to do. Yeah, it's a it's a step,
- 38:02Speaker 2: it's a level. I was told by everything. It's a level.
- 38:04Speaker 2: And then you gotta go with these and then you
- 38:06Speaker 2: gotta go see a gotta all of this stuff. I
- 38:08Speaker 2: was knocking them out. I don't care. I would have
- 38:10Speaker 2: got the same job with her as I would have
- 38:11Speaker 2: did with the other one, but I didn't know at
- 38:13Speaker 2: that time.
- 38:15Speaker 1: So but you don't have any way to contact her
- 38:17Speaker 1: now she's gone.
- 38:18Speaker 2: Are you cool with her now, I'm cool with her now.
- 38:21Speaker 1: Okay.
- 38:22Speaker 2: Ill was always cool with him. Wow, she's not a
- 38:25Speaker 2: manager anymore.
- 38:26Speaker 1: Oh okay, okay. So since making it, were there any
- 38:29Speaker 1: hurdles after that you saw that you could you you know,
- 38:33Speaker 1: like anything that kind of made it hard? That part
- 38:37Speaker 1: of the journey.
- 38:39Speaker 2: What your part?
- 38:40Speaker 1: The part on the rise to the top, the rise.
- 38:43Speaker 2: To success, the hardest part of my rise, Suss. There's
- 38:46Speaker 2: always been mo what black production, And to be honest
- 38:52Speaker 2: with you say that again black production. I had one production.
- 38:55Speaker 2: I've had one one casting Rictor once didn't bring in
- 39:00Speaker 2: for a project, and then when I went in for
- 39:02Speaker 2: another project got it. She was a catching breaktor. I
- 39:04Speaker 2: asked her why, she said, oh, stop, you get all
- 39:06Speaker 2: the jobs, let somebody else get some. She didn't bring
- 39:09Speaker 2: me in because she thought I would get it and
- 39:10Speaker 2: somebody else wouldn't get it. But that's not your job. Yeah,
- 39:13Speaker 2: because I was getting all the jobs, they wanted somebody
- 39:16Speaker 2: else to get one. But that's not your determination. I
- 39:19Speaker 2: was not brought in for Joana Man. I was told
- 39:21Speaker 2: I wasn't right. I was not brought in for sparks.
- 39:24Speaker 2: Sparks and sparks. I told I was told I wasn't
- 39:27Speaker 2: right when I took over that show. Every single thing
- 39:30Speaker 2: I've got in my career I literally had to fight for.
- 39:34Speaker 2: Nothing has come easy, even like now. All the work
- 39:38Speaker 2: that I've done and.
- 39:39Speaker 1: I'm still getting it's done a lot of work.
- 39:40Speaker 2: By the way, carry the movie for the WB carried
- 39:43Speaker 2: out to two year movies. And I'm just getting a
- 39:45Speaker 2: call to audition for two lines on a Tyler Perry movie,
- 39:48Speaker 2: three lines on this and two lines on a BT
- 39:51Speaker 2: show TV show. When I'm on the TV show, when
- 39:54Speaker 2: I'm on the number one show on BT, Yeah, they
- 39:57Speaker 2: want me. They want me to come in audition for
- 39:59Speaker 2: this show. What show? This show? Yeah, it wars it on,
- 40:01Speaker 2: It's on BT B T don't know. It's like it
- 40:06Speaker 2: was ridiculous. It's absolutely am But I get office every
- 40:11Speaker 2: day for major network, big shows. They call me in
- 40:15Speaker 2: say availability and ba ba bone. But somehow, all the
- 40:20Speaker 2: black shows and all of those things, they're asking me
- 40:22Speaker 2: to read for two or three little lines. I'm better
- 40:25Speaker 2: than everybody. You cast foods in the whole movie and
- 40:29Speaker 2: the whole TV show. You asking me to read two
- 40:30Speaker 2: and three lines. I played a woman. I played a ghost.
- 40:34Speaker 2: I played everything, and you're gonna do that, It's not possible.
- 40:37Speaker 2: I'm not even gonna think about.
- 40:39Speaker 1: You heard the whole What do you think about all that?
- 40:44Speaker 2: I have no clue. Like I said, I didn't need
- 40:49Speaker 2: no new minati. Yeah, if there is one, I didn't
- 40:53Speaker 2: need any of that. I didn't need any games. No
- 40:59Speaker 2: one ever tried to play for any of that Indian.
- 41:00Speaker 2: So I'm not saying it doesn't happen because I came in.
- 41:04Speaker 2: I just started working. Yeah, I didn't have to cut
- 41:07Speaker 2: no corners.
- 41:07Speaker 1: You didn't have to.
- 41:08Speaker 2: But I can tell you this, first time I ever
- 41:12Speaker 2: met Cat Williams, I said to my friend. My friend
- 41:15Speaker 2: standfar said predous. He came out after last of that
- 41:17Speaker 2: guy right there. It's awesome. When I first met him,
- 41:20Speaker 2: he had all he had like some girls with him.
- 41:23Speaker 2: He was like, yeah, give him this and that and
- 41:24Speaker 2: that's this, this this. He had like five six seven
- 41:27Speaker 2: different business ventures. He had a whole different mindset. You
- 41:33Speaker 2: can tell that no one was gonna put nothing over
- 41:35Speaker 2: on him. You can already tell that he's not going
- 41:37Speaker 2: to compromise. I could already tell that he's not going
- 41:39Speaker 2: to give into anything. He was like me when you
- 41:41Speaker 2: got confidence. And you know, he didn't come up just
- 41:43Speaker 2: I'm gonna be a just comedan. He was already and
- 41:46Speaker 2: he hadn't even made it yet. He would five of
- 41:48Speaker 2: the different things. I was like, what is this? Yeah,
- 41:49Speaker 2: that's my this is this and she runs this department
- 41:51Speaker 2: and she did. I was like, dude, that guy right there,
- 41:53Speaker 2: he's awesome. That's the only thing I know about him. Wow,
- 41:56Speaker 2: And he's a super hell of a comedian. Yeah.
- 41:59Speaker 1: I was gonna say, I've seen I have some favorite comics,
- 42:02Speaker 1: but I think by Far but there was I think
- 42:05Speaker 1: I had. I had a talk with my little brother
- 42:08Speaker 1: once and I was like, I would love to see
- 42:10Speaker 1: a battle between I think it was Cat Williams. I
- 42:12Speaker 1: can't remember who the other comic was, but I just
- 42:14Speaker 1: think Cat Williams by far is one of the ultimate
- 42:18Speaker 1: golds in comedy.
- 42:19Speaker 2: I think he's funny as hell. He's here's the thing,
- 42:25Speaker 2: it's not just I like that he don't just tell jokes. Yeah,
- 42:28Speaker 2: he's like he kinda tell stories. When he throw that
- 42:31Speaker 2: thing he put his stuff in, he gives you a
- 42:33Speaker 2: whole visualization of what it is, which adds to being
- 42:36Speaker 2: funny and the way he falled on the floor. He
- 42:49Speaker 2: does these stupid people. I mean, it's a combination of
- 42:52Speaker 2: it all. He don't just stand there and tell jokes
- 42:54Speaker 2: and hope that the joe work and you laugh because
- 42:55Speaker 2: you think the joke's funny. He can make the joke funny,
- 42:58Speaker 2: even if not just by he added his extra stuff
- 43:00Speaker 2: to it with his crazy look. He's brilliant.
- 43:02Speaker 1: I think he's brilliant. I think after watching his interview
- 43:05Speaker 1: it was also beautiful to see the level of integrity
- 43:08Speaker 1: he had.
- 43:10Speaker 2: Yeah, but I knew this, but people didn't know. They
- 43:11Speaker 2: didn't think he was as intelligent as he is, and
- 43:14Speaker 2: he is. I think it was a good thing for him.
- 43:15Speaker 2: I don't I don't know about anything about all this
- 43:18Speaker 2: other stuff. Lomonnade Bluminadi. I don't know anything about all
- 43:21Speaker 2: of that stuff. I just think if you just work hard,
- 43:25Speaker 2: you don't have to do that. I think it's people
- 43:26Speaker 2: that resort to those kinds of things when they're not
- 43:30Speaker 2: sure about this self. When you got one confidence yourself
- 43:32Speaker 2: and they know me, probably why I didn't go through
- 43:35Speaker 2: any of that Hollywood bullshit because they know me. I'm loud,
- 43:37Speaker 2: Hell are you talking about?
- 43:40Speaker 1: So? When the Black production sends you those auditions. Now,
- 43:43Speaker 1: this far in your career, do you even respond or
- 43:46Speaker 1: do you know?
- 43:47Speaker 2: Okay, Yeah, it's embarrassed.
- 43:50Speaker 1: She also heard about like Taraji p Henson came out
- 43:53Speaker 1: with her whole thing about pay equity.
- 43:56Speaker 2: Maybe the pay equity and this thing is the worst ever.
- 44:00Speaker 2: And again like for instance, I'm on Family Business, I
- 44:07Speaker 2: make less on Family Business in the fifth season. Then
- 44:12Speaker 2: I made the first season on Tour of Duty in
- 44:15Speaker 2: nineteen eighty seven. Wow. Wow.
- 44:21Speaker 1: And there's nothing really you could do about the screen actors.
- 44:24Speaker 2: Girl. We've talked to screen actors. Girl. I don't know
- 44:26Speaker 2: why the screen actors get and I don't care. I
- 44:29Speaker 2: just think it's the worst ever. They owed us money
- 44:34Speaker 2: for over five years. I got an email from says, oh,
- 44:39Speaker 2: we're into it in twenty twenty. I got the same
- 44:41Speaker 2: one in twenty twenty three. Oh yeah, we're into it.
- 44:45Speaker 2: And it's just I don't know how even the residuals
- 44:49Speaker 2: when you see one hour drum, I make more in
- 44:51Speaker 2: residuals from stuff I did in the eighties that's on now.
- 44:54Speaker 2: And when the one hour episode of Family Business comeing
- 44:58Speaker 2: on you at you get thirty dollars. Wow. That's because
- 45:02Speaker 2: SAG allowed them to. Because when we first came on,
- 45:04Speaker 2: we got a twenty seven hundred dollars three thousand seven
- 45:07Speaker 2: dollars which was supposed to be every show. I don't
- 45:09Speaker 2: know what. SAG let them check whatever box they need.
- 45:11Speaker 2: They checked and changed it to thirty dollars. So how
- 45:13Speaker 2: could they be paying us that one at thirty three
- 45:16Speaker 2: thousand and seven and now it's thirty dollars for one
- 45:19Speaker 2: hour show and it's been shown and shown and shown,
- 45:21Speaker 2: and they're just raping us. How raping us?
- 45:24Speaker 1: How does the whole SAG in actor dynamic work because
- 45:27Speaker 1: you keep referencing.
- 45:28Speaker 2: What SAG supposed to protect us as our union. So
- 45:31Speaker 2: but now if SAG says to you, okay, you got
- 45:35Speaker 2: to pay them twenty seven hundred, three thousand dollars per rerun, okay,
- 45:39Speaker 2: but you know what, if you can check this box
- 45:42Speaker 2: and you can say that you're this kind of prediction,
- 45:45Speaker 2: then you only have to pay them thirty dollars and
- 45:48Speaker 2: then they do that. Now, the SHAG should not allow
- 45:50Speaker 2: them to do what they're doing. We're supposed to get
- 45:54Speaker 2: three thousand something dollars for every time you're locked down
- 45:57Speaker 2: during the COVID lockdown about ten times. Never got a
- 46:01Speaker 2: what and there's so many though, Well that's because I
- 46:07Speaker 2: mean the strike was like this, that little thing that
- 46:11Speaker 2: they were allowed to do with that little box, wasn't there.
- 46:14Speaker 2: That little box is put to give it to an
- 46:16Speaker 2: example like say Netflix and all these other studios and
- 46:20Speaker 2: streaming services. And they're back way back when when if
- 46:23Speaker 2: it did the deal, they said, we can't afford to
- 46:24Speaker 2: pay him three thousand something dollars because we don't get
- 46:27Speaker 2: the same advertising dollars that the networks get. We don't
- 46:29Speaker 2: get the same viewership. Okay, well we'll let you be
- 46:31Speaker 2: able to do this little box. Yeah that was then.
- 46:33Speaker 2: Now they're getting more viewers than them, they're getting bigger
- 46:35Speaker 2: advertising dollars, and they're still they still able to get
- 46:39Speaker 2: along with the little box. And SAgs supposed to be
- 46:44Speaker 2: doing this. We were either re end this because of
- 46:46Speaker 2: SAG and then we SAG. We have to go in
- 46:48Speaker 2: strike because of this. I mean, we're all so much
- 46:51Speaker 2: money and and and nobody from SAG. You can't call
- 46:55Speaker 2: them every time I've called all the time, other actors
- 46:57Speaker 2: called it does no good. They they don't want to
- 47:00Speaker 2: go against them because you know you're gonna come and go.
- 47:03Speaker 2: They're gonna be giving that some money for other actors
- 47:04Speaker 2: for a long time. So I get a feeling. I
- 47:07Speaker 2: don't know, but that's my own interpretation of why they
- 47:09Speaker 2: won't do anything.
- 47:10Speaker 1: Yeah, but you're not in it for the money. You're
- 47:12Speaker 1: in it.
- 47:12Speaker 2: I've never been in it for the money. I've always
- 47:14Speaker 2: said I want to be a movie star. I want
- 47:16Speaker 2: to I want to make a career. Because I've bet
- 47:17Speaker 2: friends who've been movie starts to follow up and come
- 47:19Speaker 2: back down all the way of going up my career.
- 47:21Speaker 2: They're like this, hey, and then this, this, this, and
- 47:24Speaker 2: now I'm down like this, here's a couple of dollars.
- 47:25Speaker 2: Do that. Here's a couple of dollars. Do that. And
- 47:26Speaker 2: then another year passed. I see this other actor. Oh
- 47:29Speaker 2: he's this, he's that. He come up and he's he's
- 47:31Speaker 2: a start, and now I see him. Now I'm down
- 47:32Speaker 2: here loaning his money. So I just wanted a steady career,
- 47:36Speaker 2: a steady career. I've made over to two hundred thousand
- 47:38Speaker 2: dollars every year since i've been here, So well, i'll
- 47:41Speaker 2: tell you this.
- 47:41Speaker 1: So it was funny, So I of course was I
- 47:44Speaker 1: hunted you down. I saw you at it.
- 47:46Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I saw you. I was looking over the
- 47:47Speaker 2: balcon I saw you down at there.
- 47:49Speaker 1: I've been trying to get you. And so I was
- 47:51Speaker 1: on a call with the Black Effect, the Bookers and everybody.
- 47:53Speaker 1: I was like, how Miguel Nunez? And I remember the
- 47:55Speaker 1: booker saying, oh my gosh, that's so exciting because a
- 47:58Speaker 1: lot of times you see these actors, they're like every day,
- 48:01Speaker 1: you see them on everything, right, but you don't really
- 48:03Speaker 1: know their story. You don't know that side of them.
- 48:06Speaker 1: So it was kind of fun to be able to
- 48:07Speaker 1: be like, everyone's like, just curious about you.
- 48:10Speaker 2: You know, I'm curious about you.
- 48:14Speaker 1: I'm just saying, what you know, my sandwich is delicious,
- 48:16Speaker 1: but I'm gonna have to eat it after I interview
- 48:19Speaker 1: with you.
- 48:20Speaker 2: Of course, Oh yeah, I should have probably did that.
- 48:22Speaker 1: So how have you not panicked in or even looked
- 48:26Speaker 1: at some of the peers that went to the top
- 48:28Speaker 1: and said should I? Could I be up there? Do
- 48:32Speaker 1: you ever look at their race?
- 48:34Speaker 2: Nope? Never. I stay at my lane. And I've been
- 48:39Speaker 2: doing all for all of these years. I've been on
- 48:41Speaker 2: my first TV show in nineteen eighty seven. It's twenty
- 48:44Speaker 2: twenty four on a TV show. Now, it's only been
- 48:47Speaker 2: two or three years when I wasn't on one at
- 48:49Speaker 2: the end, two and three years straight. No, I'm saying
- 48:51Speaker 2: it's only it's probably been about out of the last
- 48:53Speaker 2: twenty maybe three or four years that I haven't been
- 48:55Speaker 2: on a TV series since nineteen eighty seven. Okay, So
- 48:58Speaker 2: I'm right where I wanted. My career is fine because
- 49:01Speaker 2: I always I was scared. I really hundred million percent
- 49:04Speaker 2: believe knowing how wild I was. If I had been,
- 49:09Speaker 2: if Sky had not kept me on this, because God
- 49:11Speaker 2: protects what God directs. My grandparent was a peak cake.
- 49:14Speaker 2: My grandparents will preaching, so and oh you're a preacher's kid.
- 49:17Speaker 1: Yeah, okay.
- 49:18Speaker 2: And I and if I had a gone and I
- 49:21Speaker 2: had been this, if somebody gave me twenty five million
- 49:25Speaker 2: dollars for a movie in the nineties, I don't think
- 49:28Speaker 2: I'll be here right now. Oh really, I would have
- 49:30Speaker 2: been too. While God knows exactly what and level. I'm
- 49:35Speaker 2: so satisfied. And like I said, I've seen them go
- 49:37Speaker 2: and they dropped some inny drops. So it wasn't about
- 49:40Speaker 2: shooting that. Mine was about having a career, build a career.
- 49:42Speaker 2: I wouldn't be able to do this.
- 49:44Speaker 1: You when you see the other people rise and drop,
- 49:46Speaker 1: do you see like is there a level of pain
- 49:49Speaker 1: that you see? Also, that's like where it's like, man,
- 49:52Speaker 1: you get that high and then you hit that low.
- 49:54Speaker 2: No. No, I can always look at the drop and
- 50:00Speaker 2: the drop and which person is and you know where
- 50:03Speaker 2: and where and why and how because a lot of
- 50:06Speaker 2: people it's all hype. You can't survive on hype. You
- 50:08Speaker 2: can shoot up with hype, but you can't stay there,
- 50:11Speaker 2: you know, because like I give you an example, like
- 50:14Speaker 2: right now, asking me to read for this road in
- 50:18Speaker 2: the movie, I'm like, okay, well who's starting it? And
- 50:19Speaker 2: then I'm looking at and there's some guy who from
- 50:22Speaker 2: the internet who you know, I.
- 50:24Speaker 1: Know, the whole following thing now right.
- 50:26Speaker 2: You're fucking kidding me? Are you really kidding me? And
- 50:31Speaker 2: it's that it's it's so I don't really look at
- 50:33Speaker 2: I don't know, I don't I wish everybody well. I
- 50:36Speaker 2: think I'm so happy and proud for anything anybody does,
- 50:42Speaker 2: because when we struggle so hard anyway as a people,
- 50:45Speaker 2: but for anybody black, white, oh young, I'm happy for everybody.
- 50:49Speaker 2: If I see you going up, Hey you need some help,
- 50:50Speaker 2: I help you. Doesn't. I've never been a jealous. I've
- 50:54Speaker 2: never been in me none of that. I've always wished
- 50:56Speaker 2: everybody best. And I think if you do that, then
- 50:59Speaker 2: you'll be because like the Bible said, whatever place you
- 51:02Speaker 2: be content. Even when I was in homeless, I mean
- 51:04Speaker 2: I wasn't. I was. I was content because I knew
- 51:07Speaker 2: where I was going.
- 51:08Speaker 1: So I'm curious, from when you were homeless, did you
- 51:11Speaker 1: ever make a buddy that you were homeless with that
- 51:13Speaker 1: you're still friends with? So today, I know that was random.
- 51:18Speaker 2: No, that was That's a good one. There was a
- 51:19Speaker 2: guy named Gary, Kay, k Sam, and Carlos. It was
- 51:22Speaker 2: four of us and we were all like this homeless group.
- 51:26Speaker 1: That's all the age.
- 51:27Speaker 2: Yeah, we were all in this. Say I was the
- 51:28Speaker 2: youngest and we were all downtown homeless together. They kind
- 51:31Speaker 2: of helped me out because they called me young blood, okay,
- 51:33Speaker 2: and so they took care of me. But yeah, we
- 51:36Speaker 2: became like a little downtown LA homeless group. So but
- 51:40Speaker 2: Gary went back to New York. I don't know where
- 51:41Speaker 2: k is. Carlos, I don't know where Carlos went back
- 51:45Speaker 2: to Sam and Carlos h and when of them had
- 51:50Speaker 2: got into a fight, bad fight, he had to go
- 51:52Speaker 2: back to New York. But yeah, but I haven't talked
- 51:54Speaker 2: to him a while, and I still see a lot
- 51:56Speaker 2: of the people.
- 51:56Speaker 1: I remember.
- 51:57Speaker 2: I was just in sacks and something in Beverly and
- 52:01Speaker 2: I'm walking and this girl goes, cut your boy? What
- 52:05Speaker 2: the hell? Who the hell said it? And it was
- 52:06Speaker 2: this girl she was like and she was one behind
- 52:08Speaker 2: the count and she was a country boy. I was like, damn,
- 52:10Speaker 2: not country boy anymore. And she was a girl that
- 52:12Speaker 2: was we had met when we were homeless. She her
- 52:14Speaker 2: family was in that little homeless hotel that they me too.
- 52:18Speaker 2: It's it's just warm. It's just warm. It's just warm
- 52:22Speaker 2: that I don't like me. It looks like it looks
- 52:24Speaker 2: like this.
- 52:24Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, Yo, you should always have a gas
- 52:27Speaker 1: stove for the rest.
- 52:28Speaker 2: Of your life. I agree. And if I had one
- 52:30Speaker 2: of these, it would be on all the time. I
- 52:32Speaker 2: would never forget to turn off.
- 52:34Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I remember this story. Okay, So I have
- 52:36Speaker 1: four there's four siblings, and it was me. I have
- 52:40Speaker 1: an older brother, a little brother, and a twin. And
- 52:42Speaker 1: one time I left plastic on the stove and my
- 52:46Speaker 1: parents had left. My mom is a crazy, abusive Jamaican,
- 52:50Speaker 1: full blood Jamaican crazy, So yeah, so I leave this
- 52:56Speaker 1: on the stove, catches fire, and I assure you that
- 52:59Speaker 1: we were so scared of my mom. Luckily it was snowing.
- 53:03Speaker 1: Us three kids managed to grab the fire and the
- 53:06Speaker 1: pot and everything and throw it out in the snow.
- 53:09Speaker 1: I mean the whole house was like engulfed in black smoke.
- 53:11Speaker 1: My mom still beat us, still sends us to the
- 53:13Speaker 1: basement and everything. But the firefighters were like, yo, your
- 53:16Speaker 1: kids like saved your house.
- 53:18Speaker 2: But you know, well, why did it catch fire?
- 53:22Speaker 1: Because I had left something been down.
- 53:24Speaker 2: In the basement. Your brothers had suffered from you.
- 53:27Speaker 1: So she whipped me and like literally I had a
- 53:29Speaker 1: scar across my face for a long time.
- 53:32Speaker 2: And damn she was abusive, sound like the way we were.
- 53:34Speaker 1: Yeah, she was abusive.
- 53:35Speaker 2: Trust me.
- 53:36Speaker 1: I have the same issues you have. But I like
- 53:38Speaker 1: talking about it because I'm curious now that I get older,
- 53:42Speaker 1: Like I do therapy. Do you go to therapy?
- 53:43Speaker 2: Have you not? Really?
- 53:47Speaker 1: I I'm just so surprised because you're so well rounded,
- 53:50Speaker 1: it seems, but you don't have any consistent thing that
- 53:53Speaker 1: pops up between you and your personal relationships that stand out. Wow,
- 53:57Speaker 1: God definitely had his hand on you.
- 53:59Speaker 2: You just have to. I just believe it's here.
- 54:01Speaker 1: Every though, Also that you take care of your mom.
- 54:03Speaker 1: So what does your mom and your relationship look like?
- 54:05Speaker 2: Now? Well, it's not that good. But here's my thing.
- 54:08Speaker 2: I got a lot of brothers at all. Everybody's kind
- 54:10Speaker 2: of that kind of little have a little thing against her,
- 54:13Speaker 2: and you know, because you know you didn't care. Da
- 54:15Speaker 2: da da da da da da. But me, I tell
- 54:17Speaker 2: my brothers my mom ran away from sixteen when she
- 54:19Speaker 2: got to New York. She was this beautiful young girl.
- 54:22Speaker 2: She was all of these different singers and movie stars.
- 54:25Speaker 2: She was used, so she never really knew what love was.
- 54:28Speaker 2: So whenever saying she didn't love me, I can't expect
- 54:31Speaker 2: her love because she told us she didn't want any kids.
- 54:34Speaker 2: With all accidents, so she didn't want us to any kids.
- 54:37Speaker 2: So I get that, and I understand that, and I
- 54:40Speaker 2: don't harp on it. And you know, I can't say, oh,
- 54:43Speaker 2: she ain't love me. Of course she didn't love me.
- 54:45Speaker 2: She didn't want me, So I get it. She was you.
- 54:47Speaker 2: She never really knew love, so I'm pasted it all.
- 54:50Speaker 2: I block it out because stress cost is all of that,
- 54:53Speaker 2: and stress is what ages you.
- 54:55Speaker 1: Yeah, and you look good, but I don't you let
- 54:57Speaker 1: me so good in person. I was surprised that he's I.
- 55:01Speaker 2: Let no one, I let nothing ever bothered me. I
- 55:05Speaker 2: don't care. Why. If I went somewhere right now and
- 55:07Speaker 2: I fell in a ski accident and they said, you
- 55:09Speaker 2: know what, we're gonna have ampler tap both of your leaders,
- 55:13Speaker 2: I was like, Okay, this is gonna hurt. That's all
- 55:15Speaker 2: I would get. Really, I wouldn't give up. And nothing
- 55:18Speaker 2: in my life's gonna change. I promise you. In about
- 55:21Speaker 2: another eight months, I'm gonna have some some things on
- 55:24Speaker 2: my leg and I'm gonna be running over.
- 55:25Speaker 1: There, your brother. If I were to ask your brother, like, hey,
- 55:27Speaker 1: was there ever a point where you saw Miguel like broken?
- 55:31Speaker 2: No, because he was. He was a little baby when
- 55:33Speaker 2: I left.
- 55:34Speaker 1: I'm saying, but even in your whole life, there was
- 55:36Speaker 1: nothing that ever had you shook.
- 55:38Speaker 2: No, nothing, nothing, nothing could I can't think of anything
- 55:42Speaker 2: that could shake me.
- 55:44Speaker 1: Nothing in the whole career, nothing brought you to question.
- 55:47Speaker 2: Never I already know is it.
- 55:52Speaker 1: I wonder how that is possible, that your faith is
- 55:55Speaker 1: so strong that it's never.
- 55:56Speaker 2: I saw it for some reason. I swear to God
- 56:00Speaker 2: it was more than a dream. I literally can honestly
- 56:03Speaker 2: say I knew it. I knew it. I knew it,
- 56:06Speaker 2: and I don't know how I knew it. I don't
- 56:07Speaker 2: know where it came from, but I knew it.
- 56:09Speaker 1: So did you end up taking acting classes?
- 56:11Speaker 2: No, never, don't need you too. What do you do?
- 56:15Speaker 1: You just empathize really well with the characters.
- 56:18Speaker 2: Well, yeah, it's like I've always studied actors and the
- 56:23Speaker 2: good ones, and I watched them how they do it.
- 56:25Speaker 2: I did start in the acting class once about I
- 56:29Speaker 2: was in there for about two weeks. But then the
- 56:30Speaker 2: guy I start doing it, he was like, come on,
- 56:32Speaker 2: come on. He was using me to show her about
- 56:34Speaker 2: how to do it. Every time. I don't need to
- 56:35Speaker 2: be but I just looked at it, look at it
- 56:39Speaker 2: like this, and this has always worked for me. My
- 56:41Speaker 2: philosophy is this, if you do say, think and react
- 56:49Speaker 2: exactly how you would really think, say, look and react
- 56:53Speaker 2: in whatever that scene is, you don't have to act.
- 56:58Speaker 2: You don't have to act. I was still homeless when
- 57:00Speaker 2: I did Friday thirteen and that thing crying and screaming.
- 57:02Speaker 2: Everybody else we've been wondering how they look. I got
- 57:04Speaker 2: kill taking a ship and Friday thirteen, Part five was
- 57:06Speaker 2: in my first movie, and I was screaming and crying.
- 57:08Speaker 2: I never acted in my life, and all of the
- 57:11Speaker 2: tales and everything were flowing. But I just I didn't
- 57:13Speaker 2: know how I was gonna do it. I just knew if, okay,
- 57:16Speaker 2: if you and now what's gonna happen, Shit, iver hit
- 57:18Speaker 2: the gym, You're gonna do it. I just always do exactly. Now,
- 57:22Speaker 2: when you go in there with all that bravado, trying
- 57:24Speaker 2: to be the movie star and trying to have all
- 57:25Speaker 2: this went about how you look and how you're gonna
- 57:27Speaker 2: feel and all of that, it's a whole different story.
- 57:28Speaker 2: You're not gonna believable.
- 57:29Speaker 1: Yeah, there was h I hate to throw names out there,
- 57:32Speaker 1: but I always feel like some actors give an example,
- 57:36Speaker 1: like maybe like some of these actors that really almost
- 57:40Speaker 1: more care about how they look, they really aren't that actors.
- 57:44Speaker 1: I hate to say it. I don't want to call
- 57:45Speaker 1: out names, but like you know what I no, no,
- 57:47Speaker 1: I think is a really good actor. But I think no.
- 57:49Speaker 1: For instance, like I think Halle Berry and Jennifer Lopez, honestly,
- 57:52Speaker 1: I think they're really great actors, but they don't really
- 57:54Speaker 1: care how they look on camera.
- 57:56Speaker 2: You can't. You can't, and if you do, I don't
- 58:00Speaker 2: care what you think. People see it, yeah and feel it.
- 58:04Speaker 1: Yeah you know. Yeah. So now that So, I was
- 58:07Speaker 1: talking to a young actor recently and he was talking
- 58:10Speaker 1: about how there is this thing in Hollywood with the
- 58:14Speaker 1: black male actors. Do you see any like preference or
- 58:19Speaker 1: leaning towards like your typical because it sounds like when
- 58:22Speaker 1: you were growing up going through your career, if you
- 58:24Speaker 1: were the most chosen, then they were like, well maybe
- 58:27Speaker 1: we should skip past him and give someone else a shot.
- 58:30Speaker 1: But now I hear young actors saying, well, no, that
- 58:33Speaker 1: they want the safe looking dude like the Michael B. Jordan.
- 58:36Speaker 1: They want this safe looking black guy in a lot
- 58:40Speaker 1: of roles. You don't deal with any of that.
- 58:41Speaker 2: No, I'm safe.
- 58:44Speaker 1: And then now that your career is so long, do
- 58:46Speaker 1: you even have to do a lot of casting or
- 58:49Speaker 1: do you.
- 58:49Speaker 2: Just only for black productions, only for black productions. I
- 58:55Speaker 2: don't get it. I don't understand why only black productions
- 58:58Speaker 2: really every white production. Everything, they just call and start
- 59:02Speaker 2: getting into it. Only black production ask me the audition.
- 59:05Speaker 2: Only black people. Black productions ask me for that stuff. Now,
- 59:08Speaker 2: I don't get it, but it is what it is.
- 59:10Speaker 1: Would you prefer to work for black productions though?
- 59:12Speaker 2: I would prefer to work for any productions that has integrity, honesty,
- 59:17Speaker 2: and care about the cast, the crew, and everybody except
- 59:21Speaker 2: lining their own pockets. Yeah. Yeah, that's my thing, because
- 59:26Speaker 2: I think I've never wanted all them. I want everybody
- 59:28Speaker 2: to make money. I want everybody to be happy. I
- 59:31Speaker 2: want everybody. That's the way it should because there is enough.
- 59:34Speaker 2: But right now, producers, I want to be doing a
- 59:37Speaker 2: big interview very very soon, and I'm gonna break some
- 59:40Speaker 2: shit down.
- 59:40Speaker 1: Why don't you do it right now?
- 59:42Speaker 2: I can't do it right now. I can't do it
- 59:44Speaker 2: right now.
- 59:46Speaker 1: Why would he say that?
- 59:47Speaker 2: I can't do it right now? But you got the
- 59:49Speaker 2: first preview, so you can work bad. Yeah, okay, America, come.
- 59:52Speaker 1: Back and do it. What's up with this bio pic
- 59:56Speaker 1: on you? I feel like it would be really good.
- 59:58Speaker 2: I'm writing now. I'll let you read it first.
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: I'll hold you to that.
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: I promise you can give me your opinion, because I'm
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: writing a whole lot of stuff in it, and I
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: was trying to edit some things because I know some ship,
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: and I had to leave out the eighties and nineties
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: because that's going to be Why.
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: Why would you leave anything in your story out?
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: I can't put this ship. That's a whole different book.
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: That's a whole different book.
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: By the way, I love to read.
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: So that's like if I was if God dog be
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: in the rooms I've been in, princesses kings because movie stars,
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: sports stars in the.
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: What is the craziest thing that you've seen in the
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: industry that by far left your speechless? That won't get
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: you in trouble that you can.
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: I can't tell now because my ship is like Kat
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: Williams on steroids, all of this stuff. You remember the
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: places I've been, the people I've been with, the things
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: I hung out with. So I'm already writing a book,
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: but I want to do it tastefully, so I don't
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: expose anybody except the ones that deserve it.
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: Except the ones that deserve it. Can you name some
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: people that you're believing me nothing?
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: You know, we'll do a part. Any major star in
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: the eighties and nineties, any one of the biggest on
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: the planet. I hung out with him, chilling at home
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: in private settings and parties everyone and some ship. You
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: wouldn't that's things that about stars nobody could believe, and
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: it's it's it's weird to me.
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: Well, do you think it's weird that, like like a
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: lot of this stuff is coming out now that since
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: the me too movement, like with P Diddy and.
- 1:01:41Speaker 2: The Man show quest do you believe all that stuff
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: about p Diddy? Me?
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: One hundred? Everybody say that, well P Diddy has had
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: a very and I didn't.
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: I listened to me. I didn't even know all of
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: that until somebody said it. I mean, you mean me,
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: that ain't true, And everybody keeps saying like you, I'm
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: like really, everybody's like really, really, dude.
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: When I first got into seven Guy, I would hear
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: stories about like you would go into uh his record label,
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: and like the interns would be running up, like asking
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: for food to eat. They were all starving over there.
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: I used to I don't believe.
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: Then you hear about his publishing deals. You heard that
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: he recently released his publishing but after I think it
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: was the girl from Danny Kane said, yeah, after the
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: publishing was worth absolutely nothing, and then they had to sign.
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: Shop Shop Stop Shop.
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: They had to sign n das so that they could
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: not release any details about.
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: Okay, So if you're gonna get if you sign an
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: NDA and you're not gonna talk about something for signing
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: something that's worth nothing, that don't make sense to me.
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: Well that's the thing. She didn't sign it, she said.
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: She offered to pay everyone out in the group, like,
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: I will pay you what it's worth to not sign
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: this NDA. Who there was the what was her name,
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: Aubrey Day or something. Okay, So so you so you
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: don't believe none of it.
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: I don't know. I've hung out with I was, I've
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: hung out with it. I've never seen nothing but a nice, swell,
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: amazing guy. And everybody always say, Miguel, you keep saying
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: that you ain't seen nothing. Of course you're not gonna
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: see nothing. They're not gonna show it around you. I
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: don't think bisexual quality, no, none, whatsoever. None. I don't know.
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: There was rumors swirling about that man for a long time.
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: I know I heard that and then they said, Miguel,
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: I heard that that everybody in the Mama's gay, and
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: I know them all, and I don't never seen anything.
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: And then all my friends said, Miguel, they're not gonna
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: do it because they know you. You got a big mouth.
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: You'd be like, you know somebody, they.
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: Don't have a big mouth because you haven't said nothing.
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: No, but this is no, no, no no. But I
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: would have done it right then if something would have happened,
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: if I'd have been somewhere and somebody had made he
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: talking about I went outside.
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: Megga, you know what just happened.
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: You believe what I just saw them all. I swear
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: to God, they had, I would have been telling everybody.
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: It wouldn't have been no wait some years.
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: And but I also think that people probably wouldn't do
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: it in front of you, because I think that more
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: people with a high morale, people tend to shield them.
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: From Do you believe in an Illuminati whatever the hell
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: that means.
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: I don't know if I believe in that. And the
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: only reason why I say that is because when I
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: first became Christian later in life, I'm raised Jewish, and
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: you know, you know that I remember people trying to
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: say that jay Z was an Illuminati, and I was like,
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: no way, he's my favorite rapper of all time. But
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: have YouTube videos.
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: And but hood on think okay, so let me get
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: the track. You said, Oh no, because what is the
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: old No, what what is the Illuminatis? That it would
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: be a oh no, what is it? What is the Illuminati?
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: I was supposed to be some group of people that
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: I guess worship the devil.
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: I know that's what it is, Okay, I didn't know
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: that worship the devil. That's what I think.
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: Illuminatis they worshiped the devil or they Yeah.
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: I just think, to me, I think that's far far
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: more ludicrous than you, a folks, Ludacris what. I think
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: that's far more ridiculous and ignorant than you.
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, no, I agree. I agree. I saw some
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: of the YouTube videos about jay Z when I was
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: first becoming Christian. This guy was like trying to convince
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: me that, like, you know, he believed in the devil
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: because I listened to jay Z a lot. You saw
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: my big painting of jay right, I try to get everyone.
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: To look at that pain.
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: I said that, and oh you did you like it?
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: You know it's the only one in the world. My
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: mom did it for me when I was like twenty four.
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: I paid it. Your mother painted, Yeah, she did.
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: She has way better work than that. That's actually one
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: of her worst works. She's always like, sell it to
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: jay Z. I'm like, I'm never gonna sell it to
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: jay Z. Wow. But if he paid me enough, I'd
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: sell it and then you'd pay you again to make
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: me a second.
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: No, you got to keep the original. The risk her
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: to make him one.
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: Yeah, you saw the You know what makes that painting
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: so unique is that in the way when I see
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: that paint.
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: One left this camera and walk out there so they
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: could show him.
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: You're gonna you.
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: Should show them though, since we're talking about I know.
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: We always talk about it, they'll get an impost at
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: it or whatever.
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: Yea, yeah that's what I mean.
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: But but yeah, one of the things I like about
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: that painting and the reason why it stuck out to
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: me is like, I'm always the broke girl that has
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: these dreams like past my environment. I'm always the one
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: where everyone's like, you're crazy, You're crazy for having that idea.
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: Now after so many years, people are like, she's gonna
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: do whatever she wants to do. But I like that
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: he looked past his environment, and that's kind of what
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: happened with you. That is exactly what happened with you.
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: It didn't matter what your environment was like, You're like,
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: this is where I'm going, and nothing chaotic around me
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: can stop me from reaching that deck.
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: And that's the problem with kids in America, especially our people,
- 1:06:35Speaker 2: because we are so we're looking at our This world
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: is so much bigger than your neighborhood, your click, where
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: you from. It's a great, big world out there. And
- 1:06:47Speaker 2: if some of these kids, I mean you can suffer
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: and anywhere. They just got out of their comfort zone,
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: their little area. They're scared and venture out. I know
- 1:06:55Speaker 2: one in mind Fire family had been in California something.
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: My uncle drove a car and sold it here. But
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: now I got kids born here, brothers and families and
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: nephews and nieces. I started at migration in California. You
- 1:07:06Speaker 2: could be that person in your hometown, in your neighborhood.
- 1:07:09Speaker 2: Get out of that neighborhood. If you're not prospering there,
- 1:07:12Speaker 2: you can do the same thing. If you ain't doing
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: nothing there, you can do the same thing somewhere else.
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: People are so afraid to get out of their comfort zone.
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: They're afraid to get out and do whatever it is
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: excuse me that is necessary to do what to achieve
- 1:07:26Speaker 2: their goals. They're afraid. Don't be afraid, but I do
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: be understand. It has to be afraid. You have to
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: be afraid if you don't have a plan.
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: Yeah, you have to be afraid of if you don't
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: have a plan. But I've been working on a course
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: called like Entrepreneur Mindset, and the first thing I teach
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: is getting out of your comfort zone. I'm like, get
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: out of your comfort zone.
- 1:07:45Speaker 2: There.
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: So, we live in Los Angeles and there's kids that
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: live here right now that have never been to the beach.
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: I'm like, wait what. And they're in the hood, They're
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: not even that far from the beach and they have
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: never been to the beach. And I told myself when
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: I think it was Trevor no Have you read Trevor Noah?
- 1:08:01Speaker 3: No?
- 1:08:01Speaker 2: I want you. I love him.
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: Let me tell you something. One of my favorite books
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: of all time is Trevor Noah's book Born a Crime.
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: But one of the things his mom would do when
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: he was younger was she would take him to the
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: rich neighborhoods and show him all the big mansions. And
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: I think that's so essential for kids to get out
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: of that everyday cycle. And I think that really paid.
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: That was a pinnacle thing that she did, that paved
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: the way to now you know, he owns home next
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: time Meltrum, Bendela or whatever. And I think it play.
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: It plays a huge role. Even my daughter, she's too
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: She's been on the plane like fourteen times.
- 1:08:34Speaker 2: My kids all over the world before there was ten.
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: And that's another thing. You got to get him out.
- 1:08:38Speaker 2: Because I want to start an organization I'm thinking about
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: it where taking all these kids from.
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: The hood to Africa because I would love that.
- 1:08:46Speaker 2: Yeah, because let me tell you something. If I took
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: twenty kids to Africa from the poorest neighborhoods in the
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: United States and I take them on tour Africa, and
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: when every one of them came back, I promise you,
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: if anybody in their neighborhood, in their family, in their
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: school ever say you we're poor and you're poor, They're
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: gonna look at them saying you're a damn lie. We
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: are not poor. You don't even know what poor is.
- 1:09:11Speaker 2: You won't know what poorst When they come back over there,
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: they're gonna look at their whole situation differently.
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: I've never been to Africa as that amazing.
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: Huh, it's amazing. But when you go to the poorest
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: places and see why they're living in little mud hunts
- 1:09:24Speaker 2: and the ain't got no food and this is for
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: the whole family, and they have to sit there and
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: cut it up into eight pieces, that's really and they
- 1:09:31Speaker 2: have nothing nothing. You go in their houses and you
- 1:09:34Speaker 2: see and then you come back here and you look
- 1:09:35Speaker 2: at you walk in your nice AS's house, close your door,
- 1:09:38Speaker 2: got beds and stuff, and talking about we poor you
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: got shit in refrigerator. Over there they got nothing. Every
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: one of those kids will come back and all twenty
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: five of them will spread out like a cancer and
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: change the mindset of people around them, and their mindsets
- 1:09:52Speaker 2: will be changed. And then they're sure we bring a
- 1:09:54Speaker 2: different group next year. Each one of them may be
- 1:09:56Speaker 2: bring somebody who they after telling people who they think
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: need now. Next week, next year we take fifty over.
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: I was thinking, like, Jews have a birthright. Sorry, guys,
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: I know we're going over bohead, go ahead, but birthright.
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: Jews have this thing. I think it's up to the
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: age of twenty seven that if you have Jewish blood
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: in you, you could go to Israel for fourteen days
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: fully paid for for free.
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: Right Wait wait, wait, wait say it again.
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: If you are is that right now? Yes to this day,
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: if all the way up to I think the age
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: of twenty seven, if you have jew blood in you,
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: you can go to Israel for fourteen days for free
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: under birthright, so you can go. Yeah, you know what's
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: so crazy?
- 1:10:32Speaker 2: So what if you got something else juwe blood And
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: I go, yeah, no, it's.
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: So funny because I ended up paying later because when
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: I was younger, I was dumb, and I was like,
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: I have so much going on. But then I went
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: later and I ended up on a plane where the
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: whole birthright group and I was like, I have was
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: so silly, but I think African Americans need to go
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: to Africa.
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: Well that's why Ghana, that's why Ghana is doing that.
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: Did you know right now doing a birthright type thing
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: if you are African American? H Ghana said, well, you
- 1:11:03Speaker 2: know they told you, well they're going to give you
- 1:11:04Speaker 2: four the acre it's and me, we know they told
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: you that. So if you're African American, you set foot
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: in Ghana, you're automatic citizen, really and you get a
- 1:11:10Speaker 2: free house? What? Yes, we need to I think it's
- 1:11:15Speaker 2: ten acres. I think you are. I think, yes, we
- 1:11:18Speaker 2: need to go to Ghana. You want to?
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: Actually, you can do a Ghana trip.
- 1:11:21Speaker 2: I would love to do.
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: You really want to know.
- 1:11:24Speaker 2: I'm that serious because I have some some government people
- 1:11:26Speaker 2: over there too. Also, there's another.
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: You're not gone right, we should do it together.
- 1:11:32Speaker 2: Okay, you heard it, you heard it, you canlog it.
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: You heard it. I've done. It'll be huge, all right,
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: go on?
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: So what were you saying?
- 1:11:40Speaker 2: I said, there's another couple of other African countries that
- 1:11:43Speaker 2: I am also doing that Feet to Earth. Yeah, I
- 1:11:48Speaker 2: mean Israel did. Why can't in Africa do if you
- 1:11:49Speaker 2: want to get people back home, give them automatic citizens.
- 1:11:52Speaker 2: Every African American over here should the moment they set
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: foot on any African land, African Union national, you guys
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: should do this. There should be a citizen, you know,
- 1:12:01Speaker 2: and and that would help.
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: I want I want to do the Ghana. I'm gonna
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: look into it.
- 1:12:04Speaker 2: I'm gonna hold you to you know, Steve, Steve want
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: to move the right.

- 1:12:12Speaker 2: Huh a long flight.
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: I'm gonna do it. We're gonna do it together.
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: You heard that right here.
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: First, I'm gonna literally all right, Well, thank you so much.
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: What can like, what other projects do you have coming
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: up that we could kind of stay tuned in for?
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: And how can people keep up with you?
- 1:12:31Speaker 2: Well, you can follow me on my I g is
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: M and you n easy j R. M. June is Junior,
- 1:12:37Speaker 2: also on TikTok and but I am working on a
- 1:12:43Speaker 2: project right now or you know, Family is season five
- 1:12:45Speaker 2: is coming, but we just finished season five Family, so
- 1:12:49Speaker 2: it's gonna be fire surprises coming. But also we're developing
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: a Jawana Man two as well. So and then after that,
- 1:13:00Speaker 2: I think I'm gonna hit the road for about five
- 1:13:03Speaker 2: years and just travel really all over the world. Well,
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: and we can do the GNA trip.
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: What about this biopic?
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: What about it? I'm just writing it, so it's ways way.
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll join the five year trip. We'll just be
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: sending sending script. I'll be reading your BioPen.
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: Yes, No, I'm gonna give you what I wrote now
- 1:13:23Speaker 2: and you can just read it.
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: But I'm gonna tell you right now, if I end
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: up reading this, I am going to be the person
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: that's gonna come back with more questions. You like, I'm
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: not gonna want to.
- 1:13:31Speaker 2: Say that, and I'm gonna be like you have because
- 1:13:32Speaker 2: here's that's why we're going to earlier, because say, I'm
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: gonna let you read it because and I went into it,
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: I forgot where I was. But I'm just letting everything
- 1:13:42Speaker 2: out and then edit it later, okay, because there's so
- 1:13:47Speaker 2: much and that's that's why I said, that's why, that's
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: what happened. And I said, except the eighties, and then
- 1:13:53Speaker 2: you said why then we got into that. I'm leaving
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: out eight but I'm going through a little bit. But
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: I'm literally I'm just telling it. And the reason I'm
- 1:14:02Speaker 2: letting nobody read it is because I'm so much in there.
- 1:14:05Speaker 2: I'm like, should I say that? Should I do that?
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: But I figured it would be better to get it
- 1:14:09Speaker 2: out and not edit it on the paper. So I
- 1:14:12Speaker 2: haven't let anybody read it because it's so purple.
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: I can I can read it.
- 1:14:15Speaker 2: Yeah, because you got it. You could give me notes,
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: you could give me not.
