- 0:11Speaker 1: Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark, a Hallmark review podcast. I'm
- 0:13Speaker 1: Megan and I'm a longtime Hallmark fan. I'm Windy, I'm
- 0:16Speaker 1: a former Hallmark hater. On today's episode, we are discussing
- 0:19Speaker 1: The Way Home Season four, episode nine, the penultimate episode
- 0:24Speaker 1: in the series Old lang Zine, which originally aired on
- 0:29Speaker 1: the Hallmark Channel on Sunday, June fourteenth and is now
- 0:33Speaker 1: streaming on Hallmark Plus. I feel like we should give
- 0:37Speaker 1: some sort of spoiler alert here. Oh yeah, if you're
- 0:41Speaker 1: listening and expecting this to be spoiler free, this z
- 0:44Speaker 1: ain't the show for you. Yeah. I hope that's clear.
- 0:48Speaker 1: We don't typically do a spoiler alert, but this will
- 0:52Speaker 1: be spoilerful. Yeah. And I think like if you're like, oh,
- 0:55Speaker 1: I'm gonna listen to it first, no no, no, no
- 0:57Speaker 1: no no, go watch the episode first and then come
- 0:59Speaker 1: back and listen to us. Yes, for sure, for sure,
- 1:02Speaker 1: we got a lot to talk about. Let's get right
- 1:03Speaker 1: into it with a synopsis. New Year's Even nineteen twenty
- 1:06Speaker 1: five brings into focus the Landry and the Augustine family's destiny,
- 1:10Speaker 1: and Elliott and Kat witness it and another time Alice
- 1:14Speaker 1: does the same. Hey, Wenny, what was your first impression
- 1:17Speaker 1: of old Lang sign against spoiler alert, But Hallmark has
- 1:21Speaker 1: trained me to believe in happy endings, so there is
- 1:23Speaker 1: absolutely no way they just killed Elliott Augustine. I mean
- 1:28Speaker 1: it looked bad, right, it looked really bad. It was
- 1:30Speaker 1: a great scene, incredible, incredible, I mean amyworthy. Do you
- 1:37Speaker 1: think Evan Williams looked afraid for his life? Yeah? Good acting,
- 1:42Speaker 1: kind of like roasted Evan Williams. I didn't roast Evan
- 1:45Speaker 1: Williams this year. I think I roasted the character of
- 1:49Speaker 1: Elliott this year, indeed, And that's why I felt very
- 1:52Speaker 1: sad at the end of this episode. I did too,
- 1:55Speaker 1: I did too. My first impression is I need the
- 1:56Speaker 1: writers to start doing some serious explaining to help me
- 1:59Speaker 1: understand how, how the how could we not love our
- 2:02Speaker 1: beautiful boy Vic became the terrible human we know in
- 2:05Speaker 1: present day? Right? What happened? I need to know what
- 2:10Speaker 1: happened because I'll just skip ahead at first second when
- 2:14Speaker 1: when Vic gets real hot with Griffin at the party scene, Yes,
- 2:18Speaker 1: you know, I was like, Okay, Vic's a stand up guy. Yeah,
- 2:22Speaker 1: he's worried about Tessa, He's worried about his baby. Oh,
- 2:27Speaker 1: what happens to Vic? Why does Vic become like such
- 2:31Speaker 1: a terrible person? Where do you want to start? This
- 2:35Speaker 1: episode is all over the place in terms of timelines. Yeah,
- 2:37Speaker 1: so our discussion of it is going to kind of
- 2:40Speaker 1: be as well. There's no good place to start because
- 2:43Speaker 1: chronologically there's it carries through. So yeah, let's start talking
- 2:46Speaker 1: about young Tessa, who's clearly struggling. It's it's heartbreaking. The
- 2:52Speaker 1: look on her face. Have you ever seen when when
- 2:55Speaker 1: they find when Alice jumps, Griffin sees her, which we'll
- 2:58Speaker 1: talk and Tessa comes up. The look on her face
- 3:01Speaker 1: have you ever seen those videos? This is horrifying, but
- 3:04Speaker 1: of like children before and after they've been kidnapped. No,
- 3:08Speaker 1: and the look on their face. No, Okay, well I'm
- 3:11Speaker 1: glad because it's horrifying. But that is the she was
- 3:14Speaker 1: giving me that traumatize Are you on? Yeah, that's wild stuff. Girl.
- 3:19Speaker 1: It's dark. So she looks terrified, but she does not
- 3:22Speaker 1: react to She's like numb. She is numb. Maybe, Oh
- 3:28Speaker 1: that's a good point, Megan, Like maybe she's not even clocking,
- 3:32Speaker 1: like you know, Griffin makes like a bullshit excuse of
- 3:35Speaker 1: like why Alice is there? Why Alice is wet, she
- 3:37Speaker 1: slipped on the rocks, whatever, she doesn't even care. She
- 3:41Speaker 1: doesn't even care. Yeah, it didn't really dawn on me
- 3:46Speaker 1: that Tessa might be struggling with postpart and depression until
- 3:50Speaker 1: later in the episode. Oh, that was instantly what I thought.
- 3:53Speaker 1: When she walks up in this moment. I just was like, Oh,
- 3:56Speaker 1: I think she's just in the thick of it, and
- 3:58Speaker 1: she doesn't know how to care for this baby who
- 4:01Speaker 1: is fussy. Sure, you know which, I'm sure like that
- 4:04Speaker 1: was a lot of the narrative during that in those
- 4:08Speaker 1: days was probably like, Oh, it's just a fussy baby,
- 4:11Speaker 1: and you're tired and you're like out of you know, yeah,
- 4:14Speaker 1: when women were really truly struggling with PPT. I think
- 4:18Speaker 1: it's interesting because she says to Alice, she's just like
- 4:20Speaker 1: an envy your ability to come and go. We've had children,
- 4:23Speaker 1: you know how rapidly it changes your life and all
- 4:25Speaker 1: of a sudden you're like, oh, my time is not
- 4:26Speaker 1: my own. Yeah, but she also says, you know, it's
- 4:30Speaker 1: so hard, and nobody talks about that. And this was
- 4:33Speaker 1: in twenty twenty six. People are talking about it. Absolutely.
- 4:36Speaker 1: The rise of the mommy blog obviously people start talking
- 4:39Speaker 1: about it, but in the early eighties, I don't think
- 4:41Speaker 1: people were talking. I don't have realistically about what it
- 4:44Speaker 1: was like. Our listener Mailbag pointed out postpartum depression was
- 4:47Speaker 1: not a recognized diagnosis, so this wasn't something that people
- 4:51Speaker 1: talked about. Yeah, she didn't know that this is a
- 4:55Speaker 1: thing that you could be facing. And you know, she's
- 4:57Speaker 1: caring herself to Dell. Yeah, that's the hardest part. But
- 5:01Speaker 1: even when the numbness, when Alice comes out to the house,
- 5:04Speaker 1: the smoke alarm is going off, she gets Elliott, Tessa
- 5:07Speaker 1: comes running, not even running, walking up with Lewis from
- 5:10Speaker 1: the pond. She's like, oh my gosh, but she's not
- 5:13Speaker 1: really that panic. M m. You know, everyone else is
- 5:17Speaker 1: kind of more freaked out in that moment than Tessa is.
- 5:22Speaker 1: You know that scene, Okay, so well, there's smoke detector
- 5:25Speaker 1: is going off. It made me hate Evie in this,
- 5:29Speaker 1: in this little scene, and I love Evie, but she
- 5:32Speaker 1: was really shaming Tessa. How could you leave your baby? Yeah,
- 5:36Speaker 1: And I just felt horrible for Tessa. And I don't
- 5:40Speaker 1: even think Tessa is a character that I generally root for. No, No,
- 5:47Speaker 1: I don't like adult Tessa anti Coucher know me either,
- 5:51Speaker 1: They're two different people to me. Yes, yeah, in my
- 5:54Speaker 1: notes it's always Tessa. I don't refer to her as
- 5:56Speaker 1: anti Coop. But that's a that's a that's another character
- 5:59Speaker 1: advillain that we don't I think no or really know
- 6:02Speaker 1: enough about, like how she became this hardened criminal basically,
- 6:07Speaker 1: although you know, when you look back at her stealing
- 6:10Speaker 1: from the till at Coyle's, maybe that does speak to
- 6:14Speaker 1: a person who was walking the line. Yeah, of legality. Right.
- 6:18Speaker 1: We have the party at the Landry's with the tainted
- 6:21Speaker 1: love scene. Okay, so we get revealed to us in
- 6:25Speaker 1: elements of this episode that Griffin and Tessa have a
- 6:28Speaker 1: little bit of a relationship. Tessa seems shocked to see
- 6:30Speaker 1: Alice because she was probably meeting Griffin at the pond.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Then we hear Colton yelling at Griffin, I know what
- 6:37Speaker 1: you're doing. I know you've been meeting you need to
- 6:39Speaker 1: knock it off. We hear basically that same conversation knock
- 6:42Speaker 1: it off that yeah, well it's essentially what he says. Yeah,
- 6:46Speaker 1: And then we have basically the same conversation in their
- 6:48Speaker 1: kitchen where he's like, back off. Vic discovers her bracelet, yes,
- 6:54Speaker 1: like I forgot where I got it, and Griffin like
- 6:57Speaker 1: busts in. He's like I gave it to her. Yeah,
- 6:59Speaker 1: this whole thing is a mess here. To me, it's
- 7:02Speaker 1: too many things happening at too rapid of a pace
- 7:05Speaker 1: with no additional context. I have a hard time buying
- 7:09Speaker 1: into the Griffin and Tessa of it all that they
- 7:13Speaker 1: had some sort of dance together, you know what I mean,
- 7:18Speaker 1: Like we've never seen them be close. We've only seen
- 7:22Speaker 1: Griffin inquire about who she is, maybe give her like
- 7:26Speaker 1: a little bit of like looks from across the room.
- 7:29Speaker 1: But I need, I need. I'm having a hard time
- 7:32Speaker 1: believing that Tessa would jump with Griffin. Why, right, Like
- 7:36Speaker 1: that hasn't come full circle. I'm praying in episode ten
- 7:40Speaker 1: that there's closure there, there's more understanding from the viewer's
- 7:44Speaker 1: point of view, the reasons why Tessa jumps with Griffin,
- 7:47Speaker 1: because I'm not sure we have been told enough are
- 7:52Speaker 1: shown enough that she was in love with Griffin or
- 7:58Speaker 1: having some sort of affair with Griffin? Why would she
- 8:01Speaker 1: leave Vic? Like I I'm not understanding it yet. Yeah,
- 8:04Speaker 1: So in this this episode, leads me to believe that
- 8:07Speaker 1: she's not in love with Griffin, nor is she having
- 8:09Speaker 1: an affair with Griffin, but that he is a means
- 8:11Speaker 1: to an end because at this party, after they've had
- 8:15Speaker 1: this big blow up that you know, Vic gets mad
- 8:18Speaker 1: at Griffin, why are you buying a bracelet for my girl?
- 8:21Speaker 1: And then we find out they all start like redirecting blame,
- 8:28Speaker 1: and Griffin's like, well, Evie's in love with you, Colton
- 8:31Speaker 1: and you're not paying attention. And then Evie's like, well,
- 8:34Speaker 1: Tessa left her baby at home, and so they're all
- 8:37Speaker 1: yelling at each other, and then Fern comes in and
- 8:39Speaker 1: delivers the prophecy. This is how it begins, and I'll
- 8:41Speaker 1: tell you how it ends. You'll kill your son. Back
- 8:46Speaker 1: to your first impression, we're left at the end of
- 8:49Speaker 1: this episode thinking Elliott is in grave danger. This to
- 8:53Speaker 1: me speaks to a couple different things. One, I think
- 8:56Speaker 1: Tessa is genuinely afraid in this time that she is
- 8:59Speaker 1: dangerous to her son, okay, baby Elliott. But as the viewer,
- 9:03Speaker 1: we know it's deeper than that that Tessa shoots Elliott,
- 9:08Speaker 1: and Fern would know that, so I don't know. I
- 9:13Speaker 1: mean episode ten has a lot to do here. But
- 9:16Speaker 1: I also think a lot of people in our listener
- 9:19Speaker 1: mail bag speculated like the love that Tessa is jumping
- 9:22Speaker 1: for is not Griffin, it's Elliott. And so I am
- 9:25Speaker 1: thinking now Griffin is a means to an end. Griffin
- 9:28Speaker 1: helps her. She somehow, something happens. She's like, I have
- 9:32Speaker 1: got to get out of here, and he says, I
- 9:34Speaker 1: got a way we can do it. Yeah, I buy that.
- 9:36Speaker 1: I buy that. I saw Alice come out of the pond.
- 9:38Speaker 1: The pond is magical. Let's give it a go. Let's
- 9:41Speaker 1: try it. Let's see what happens. Let's get out of here.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Where we're going, we don't need no suitcases. You'rena listen
- 9:50Speaker 1: to our listener mail bag. Guys, it's good time. Okay,
- 9:53Speaker 1: But here's my question, and I'm trying. I'm processing it
- 9:56Speaker 1: in real time. Fern tells Tessa the future. Sure, but
- 10:01Speaker 1: Fern is not a time traveler, so it is okay
- 10:04Speaker 1: that she tells her that future. You know, because friends
- 10:08Speaker 1: like you are you you will kill your son. That's good.
- 10:11Speaker 1: You know. The rules are the rules. The unspoken rules
- 10:15Speaker 1: are the unwritten rules? Are you don't talk about future
- 10:17Speaker 1: time travel or you don't talk about what happens in
- 10:19Speaker 1: the future. Mm hmm. But here Fern has revealed that
- 10:23Speaker 1: Tessa will kill her son, and do you think do
- 10:26Speaker 1: you think Colton's thinking in this time? He's like, that's
- 10:28Speaker 1: just my crazy grandma. Yeah, just ignore my crazy grandma.
- 10:32Speaker 1: A good question. It's just this, really, can you imagine
- 10:37Speaker 1: receiving that information as a mother in the depths of
- 10:42Speaker 1: postpartum depression. You're already questioning it. Those are the intrusive
- 10:46Speaker 1: thoughts that you're having. It's real, for real. It's kind
- 10:49Speaker 1: of deep and dark for this show. I mean, this
- 10:54Speaker 1: show is kind of deep and dark anyway, but like
- 10:56Speaker 1: for Hallmark. Yeah, so let's talk about that tunnel. Okay,
- 11:01Speaker 1: there is once again a lot going on here. Kat
- 11:04Speaker 1: and Elliot come rushing in. They're gonna save the day.
- 11:07Speaker 1: And they show up where Fern is doing her screen
- 11:09Speaker 1: test and they're like, they're gonna kill antokoop, it's gonna explode,
- 11:12Speaker 1: and Griffin comes busting in. Stop it's all anti climatic
- 11:15Speaker 1: for me here, yes, and then they're like, yeah, it's
- 11:18Speaker 1: gonna explode and she's gonna get away. And then Kat
- 11:20Speaker 1: and Elliott just accept this and I was like, did
- 11:23Speaker 1: it not occur to you? Because they're like, oh, we're
- 11:24Speaker 1: going to stage just explosion for the show. It took
- 11:27Speaker 1: them too long, in my opinion, to get to the
- 11:29Speaker 1: idea that, oh, it couldn't be happening on New Year's Eve.
- 11:32Speaker 1: They're not filming a New Year's Eve. There, what there was?
- 11:36Speaker 1: It took them too long to get there. Yeah, I agree.
- 11:38Speaker 1: Back to the when Kat comes busting in on the
- 11:40Speaker 1: Fern's audition tape right up to the camera. Yes, you
- 11:45Speaker 1: have to leave. She's doing a job tonight. I just
- 11:48Speaker 1: has no finesse to her yep at all. Why. I
- 11:51Speaker 1: guess she knows she ends up on camera. What has
- 11:53Speaker 1: happened will always happen, and it's a nice plot device
- 11:55Speaker 1: for her to end up on camera. But like, be
- 11:57Speaker 1: a better time traveler, don't rush into the yes. But
- 12:01Speaker 1: my point is like earlier in the season, with that
- 12:05Speaker 1: whole scene, Kat has like hypothesized, She's like, we look terrified,
- 12:10Speaker 1: we're reacting to somebody because we're in danger. It's Grayson
- 12:16Speaker 1: who comes in and he's like stop all the same,
- 12:20Speaker 1: there's no danger presented here, There's no danger. It's just startling. Yes,
- 12:24Speaker 1: and I don't know if this is because we've had
- 12:29Speaker 1: a change from this is going to be a two season,
- 12:31Speaker 1: two more seasons, and now we only have one season.
- 12:34Speaker 1: We have to wrap this up. I don't know scenario,
- 12:36Speaker 1: you know what I mean. But then we get to
- 12:38Speaker 1: the whole, like Grayson and explaining, Oh, we're just we're
- 12:43Speaker 1: going to do this big tunnel explosion and then this
- 12:46Speaker 1: is going to be a means to Tess is going
- 12:49Speaker 1: to be able to like get away, yeah, and this
- 12:52Speaker 1: will appease the movie producer who doesn't want to stink
- 12:55Speaker 1: of bootlegging on him exactly. And then Grayson lin clear
- 13:00Speaker 1: his name, like it all seems like this great plan,
- 13:03Speaker 1: and Fern is just a cook line and sinker on it.
- 13:06Speaker 1: She's like, yeah, that's what's gonna happen, blah blah blah
- 13:09Speaker 1: blah blah whatever. But I do think that was what
- 13:11Speaker 1: was going to happen. I don't know, because if you
- 13:14Speaker 1: see the explosion, we don't see the exploiti we hear
- 13:17Speaker 1: the explosion at the end, when Grayson and Ferner outside
- 13:20Speaker 1: celebrating New Year's even they're watching fireworks, right, Grayson is emotionless,
- 13:25Speaker 1: like he doesn't even like react to the explosion, and
- 13:28Speaker 1: I'm like, hmmm, hmmm, yeah, good point. That's a good point.
- 13:34Speaker 1: But this was accidental this explosion, I know. Before the
- 13:38Speaker 1: explosion happens, Rita reveals no, no, no, no, no, that
- 13:43Speaker 1: five win in four came out is misleading. It's not
- 13:46Speaker 1: that one person didn't come out. It's that one person's
- 13:50Speaker 1: body went missing. This is still murky to me. So
- 13:53Speaker 1: she's like, they all died and is still unclear what
- 13:56Speaker 1: that means. Why would they have four went in or
- 13:59Speaker 1: five win and four came out. Four bodies were found,
- 14:03Speaker 1: one body was never recovered, That's what she says. Oh,
- 14:07Speaker 1: so then it's the question of who's the unrecovered body.
- 14:10Speaker 1: Now we see Kat dragging Elliott out after he was shot.
- 14:15Speaker 1: Cliff is down there, Cliff is down there, Cliff's other
- 14:17Speaker 1: cop dude is down there. Percy and little Moe are
- 14:19Speaker 1: down there. That's four. But then we also have Kat
- 14:22Speaker 1: and Elliott is six, and Tessa we're not even counting
- 14:25Speaker 1: Tessa and Tessa and Tessa, Cliff, Tessa, Rando cop, AUGI brother,
- 14:31Speaker 1: AUGI brother. That's five. And then we have Kat and Elliott,
- 14:34Speaker 1: which makes seven. But perhaps it's only that the ones
- 14:39Speaker 1: that Grayson knew were down there. So Grayson knew Kat, Elliott,
- 14:43Speaker 1: Tessa and her two dudes, Grayson knew of five. Okay,
- 14:47Speaker 1: Grayson didn't know that Cliff and the cop was down there. Correct. Yeah, yeah, yes,
- 14:54Speaker 1: that's murky too. It's all murky. It is Who's who's
- 14:58Speaker 1: the missing body? I mean it's it's easy to assume
- 15:00Speaker 1: it's Elliott, but then I don't know, like does someone
- 15:04Speaker 1: else get away that we don't know about? We don't
- 15:06Speaker 1: we don't know anything, and we have not watched, but
- 15:08Speaker 1: I'm dying to watch. Yeah, let's talk about this scene.
- 15:19Speaker 1: This is such an incredible scene. M It's super chaotic,
- 15:24Speaker 1: slow motion, slow motion. Tessa pulls the gun. She's pointing
- 15:29Speaker 1: the gun at Cat. Yeah, and Elliott steps in and yeah,
- 15:34Speaker 1: you know so, but I'm trying to remember, like does
- 15:38Speaker 1: Tessa fire and then Elliott steps in, Like, was Tessa
- 15:42Speaker 1: trying to kill Kat? Tessa aimes like Cat jumps in
- 15:45Speaker 1: and Tessa like turns to aim, yes, and then she
- 15:49Speaker 1: doesn't fire yet when Elliott jumps in front of Cat,
- 15:52Speaker 1: it's like she's aiming about to fire. Elliott jumps and
- 15:55Speaker 1: Elliott catches the bullet. Yeah, so was she going to
- 15:57Speaker 1: kill Cat? Seems like it right, seems like it. It
- 16:02Speaker 1: just makes me wonder, why would why would testa point
- 16:06Speaker 1: the gun at Cat? I don't That's a great question
- 16:08Speaker 1: that I don't know either. Like when I think about
- 16:10Speaker 1: when I when I watched that scene, because I watched
- 16:12Speaker 1: it twice, What is it about that is she just
- 16:16Speaker 1: why would she point the gun and fire it at Cat?
- 16:19Speaker 1: I don't know. Yeah, I don't know either. But then
- 16:21Speaker 1: we have, you know, the slow motion of the lantern
- 16:25Speaker 1: falling and the kerosene spilling out, and then there's just
- 16:29Speaker 1: happens to be boxes of explosives down there too. Well
- 16:33Speaker 1: to me, it was giving like big Thunder Mountain at
- 16:35Speaker 1: Disneyland when they cut to that, like labeled boxes of
- 16:39Speaker 1: exactly exactly. But all this time Kat is like a
- 16:43Speaker 1: superwoman and she's basically picking up Elliott and she's gonna
- 16:48Speaker 1: drag him out. He's not dead, like he's grasping at
- 16:53Speaker 1: like where he's been shot in the heart, yeah, in
- 16:56Speaker 1: the chest, in the chest. She's dragging him out there.
- 17:01Speaker 1: It leads me to believe that I even texted me
- 17:04Speaker 1: and I was like they got out before the explosion. Right,
- 17:07Speaker 1: it's unclear, it's intentionally unclear, I know. But but we
- 17:11Speaker 1: know that Kat is in the future, so yes, you're
- 17:15Speaker 1: so must get out. But does Elliott survive? Does he survive? Like?
- 17:19Speaker 1: Is she jumping in the pond with a bleeding Elliot?
- 17:22Speaker 1: What a she? Haand up in eighteen fourteen? Oh my gosh,
- 17:25Speaker 1: I can't you know. I mean, that's dangerous. I'm thinking
- 17:29Speaker 1: here your comment about Grayson being emotionless. Grayson made some
- 17:34Speaker 1: digs at Ferne. We know that Ferne has broken up
- 17:36Speaker 1: with Grayson, but they're keeping up illusions because the movie. Guys.
- 17:40Speaker 1: Then yeah, fine, but he makes a comment like she
- 17:44Speaker 1: says twenty nineteen, twenty twenty six, nineteen twenty six is
- 17:47Speaker 1: going to be full of new beginnings, and he says
- 17:48Speaker 1: certainly for you, dear, and her face kind of changes,
- 17:51Speaker 1: and then at the party he's like, well, let's basically
- 17:53Speaker 1: go have like one last go of it. If he
- 17:57Speaker 1: knew because he saw Elliott get arrested, if he knew
- 18:00Speaker 1: that Cliff was in the catacombs when the explosion happened,
- 18:05Speaker 1: he might be pleased that Fern's happily ever after will
- 18:10Speaker 1: no longer be Yeah, that's a good little theory there.
- 18:14Speaker 1: So we haven't really talked about that. Cliff and Fern
- 18:16Speaker 1: get engaged, uh huh. And I want to flash back
- 18:19Speaker 1: to our listener mail bag because someone said in the seventies,
- 18:22Speaker 1: Fern is wearing a wedding band. Mm, well, if you
- 18:25Speaker 1: saw her engagement ring as a band, yes, So that
- 18:28Speaker 1: answers that question that they never need to have gotten
- 18:32Speaker 1: married for her to be wearing them, right, So that
- 18:35Speaker 1: was interesting. But we still don't know who Colton's. We
- 18:38Speaker 1: don't know for sure if she was pregnant at this time,
- 18:40Speaker 1: don't Yeah, we don't know. Yeah. When Kat jumps with Elliott,
- 18:45Speaker 1: Alice also jumps, and I think that's such a funny
- 18:47Speaker 1: scene because Dell comes upon this letter that Kat has left.
- 18:50Speaker 1: She leaves and leaves a letter, and then Alice does
- 18:52Speaker 1: even saying she takes off and Dell like, it's not
- 18:55Speaker 1: you too. It's become like almost comical the way they
- 18:58Speaker 1: use the pond. I agree, But alis and is in
- 19:00Speaker 1: nineteen eighty Griffin's on the bank of the pond, takes
- 19:02Speaker 1: a photo of her and she's like, don't tell Colden. Fine,
- 19:06Speaker 1: we have this whole Tessa scene that occurs. But also
- 19:09Speaker 1: in this moment, Griffin takes a photo of Tessa holding
- 19:13Speaker 1: baby Elliott and Alice is in it, which answers the
- 19:15Speaker 1: question who was in the photo of photo? I've never
- 19:17Speaker 1: seen it's Alice standing right there. Great who ripped it?
- 19:21Speaker 1: Who ripped it? Who put it in the suitcase? All
- 19:24Speaker 1: of this. The thing about Alice in the nineteen eighties
- 19:27Speaker 1: is when she's watching that party with the tainted love scene,
- 19:32Speaker 1: she's in the house. She said by the stairs. How
- 19:35Speaker 1: is she getting away with this? I don't know. This
- 19:37Speaker 1: is one of the things that bothers me, but I've
- 19:39Speaker 1: just learned to accept it. Yeah, like we had to
- 19:42Speaker 1: keep out. Alice couldn't continue to be a part of
- 19:45Speaker 1: it because she wasn't aging along with them, so we
- 19:49Speaker 1: have to have her hiding. It's worth noting. What's interesting
- 19:53Speaker 1: is Griff says they were right. The pond is magical?
- 19:57Speaker 1: Like what did he know about the pond? When does
- 19:59Speaker 1: he first time? Is it when he takes Tessa? Does
- 20:01Speaker 1: he do a practice grip ahead of time? With so
- 20:04Speaker 1: many questions and Griffin doesn't know who Alice is at
- 20:07Speaker 1: this point, does he when she comes out of the pond? Oh,
- 20:09Speaker 1: he just is like, I don't think he does. He
- 20:12Speaker 1: knows she's He's known something is going on this whole time.
- 20:16Speaker 1: He's given indications. But no, he doesn't know who she is,
- 20:19Speaker 1: and she doesn't want Coulton to know yet because Colton
- 20:23Speaker 1: doesn't find out until he's an adult. Griffin is even
- 20:25Speaker 1: asked though, but like, why what's Colton too? Are you?
- 20:28Speaker 1: What are you doing here? Yeah? Exactly? Yeah? And does
- 20:31Speaker 1: he know the lore of the pond that only Landry's
- 20:33Speaker 1: can time travel? Yeah, I'm guessing he doesn't because Colton,
- 20:37Speaker 1: to me doesn't at this time. Right. He doesn't know
- 20:40Speaker 1: the correct pond either, so maybe they just were not aware.
- 20:45Speaker 1: Another question? Yes, I just that's but it's another Oh okay.
- 20:50Speaker 1: The other thing is we get the most anti climactic
- 20:53Speaker 1: reveal ever. Danny's a letter writer. I'm so disappointed in
- 20:56Speaker 1: this part. Jacobs sees the typewriter he tapped the end,
- 21:00Speaker 1: The end's crooked. He realizes Danny shows up and he's like,
- 21:03Speaker 1: it was me. Could I told you that last season? Yeah? Uh,
- 21:05Speaker 1: we knew. I still don't really understand Danny's reasoning. Why,
- 21:11Speaker 1: you know? He says that he felt guilty all this
- 21:13Speaker 1: time HM, and he felt like he was a scapegoat.
- 21:18Speaker 1: They don't push back on the story of Jacob going
- 21:21Speaker 1: after his stuffed animal, and that's what led him to
- 21:24Speaker 1: kind of get swept away, right, So they allowed Danny
- 21:29Speaker 1: to continue to take the fall. Okay, So he's like, well,
- 21:32Speaker 1: I'm gonna punish you. I think that's so dumb. I
- 21:37Speaker 1: just think that was so anti climatic. It was such
- 21:40Speaker 1: a great reveal, was that last season when they showed
- 21:43Speaker 1: the typewriter. Of course, that was phenomenal for it to
- 21:47Speaker 1: just come out to this, you know, Jacob puts together
- 21:50Speaker 1: in like two seconds. It's underwhelming, so underwhelming, and then
- 21:54Speaker 1: Danny just confesses it was me and all is good.
- 21:58Speaker 1: Give me me. Soon he realizes is that Jake saw
- 22:00Speaker 1: the typewriter. He's like, well, okay, cat's out of the bag.
- 22:03Speaker 1: I guess I'm gonna let him go. And I've been
- 22:04Speaker 1: tormenting Dell all these years. He says, like, all tell you,
- 22:08Speaker 1: but you're not gonna believe me now he doesn't tell
- 22:10Speaker 1: him if you're Danny, are you? Like? Jacob's like, not
- 22:15Speaker 1: right now, though, I got to go sit by the
- 22:16Speaker 1: fire and have a chat with my sister. If you're Danny,
- 22:18Speaker 1: wouldn't be like, tell me right now, explain to me
- 22:21Speaker 1: where were you? Explain it to me right now. Yeah,
- 22:24Speaker 1: but they don't. So it's all settled with the hug.
- 22:28Speaker 1: Settled with the hug, I guess, yeah, No, I mean,
- 22:30Speaker 1: really think about it. Dell was tormented by these notes, yes, tormented. Yes,
- 22:35Speaker 1: it was a big storyline. And Delle's just like, Okay,
- 22:39Speaker 1: I understand, we did you wrong, Danny, So it's okay
- 22:42Speaker 1: that you did as wrong. I think Dell's right that
- 22:46Speaker 1: she has a part in this, but I'm not sure
- 22:50Speaker 1: Danny is Like they were threatening letters, I know, but
- 22:54Speaker 1: Danny doesn't have all the information. He assumed they were
- 22:56Speaker 1: hiding Jacob off site somewhere, and they knew, and they
- 22:58Speaker 1: were continuing to perpetuate this story. I if you don't
- 23:02Speaker 1: know about time travel and you see the scene they show,
- 23:05Speaker 1: it does seem like Jacob is somewhere gettable. That's fair,
- 23:09Speaker 1: it's fair. But if you're Danny and Jacob's just like,
- 23:13Speaker 1: I'll tell you, but it's all later been twenty years
- 23:16Speaker 1: at this point, when when Alice and Kat are discussing Jacob,
- 23:19Speaker 1: like clearly assuming they knew where he was, he wasn't
- 23:23Speaker 1: things were clearly still bad. Yeah, maybe he's been kept
- 23:26Speaker 1: in aware, you know. Yeah, he's like, I'm just going
- 23:29Speaker 1: to hide in the barn and want to come out. Yeah.
- 23:32Speaker 1: So I think I think Danny has more to answer
- 23:35Speaker 1: to here, and I don't think they are. I think
- 23:38Speaker 1: this is going to be the I think it's done.
- 23:39Speaker 1: That's over and done with. Do you think the writers
- 23:42Speaker 1: are like, Okay, how are we gonna wrap? How are
- 23:44Speaker 1: we gonna wrap this? Like? I appreciate that they're tying
- 23:48Speaker 1: all these loose ends up, but they're not to my satisfaction. Okay,
- 23:52Speaker 1: let's talk about Jacob and Abbey and the blackmail accusation.
- 23:55Speaker 1: I mean kind of forgot about that, totally forgot about it.
- 23:59Speaker 1: But okay, Jacob shows up at her wine presentation. She says,
- 24:03Speaker 1: but Daddy, I love him. That he please, and he
- 24:07Speaker 1: was like, oh, you want me to let you be
- 24:10Speaker 1: with the man who's been blackmailing Now is it fair
- 24:13Speaker 1: to say they've been black mailing them because the will exists? Yep,
- 24:19Speaker 1: So maybe Lewis didn't even didn't know the will existed.
- 24:22Speaker 1: Maybe he wasn't acting in bad faith, but that land
- 24:25Speaker 1: is technically there right, So is it blackmail or is
- 24:30Speaker 1: it saying like, you know that's ours, we're not going
- 24:33Speaker 1: to take it back technicalities if you don't send my
- 24:35Speaker 1: kid to prison technicalities. You know, it's silly. To me.
- 24:39Speaker 1: I'm like, why is Louis such a dick? Sometimes? I
- 24:44Speaker 1: don't know why he needs to be put like the
- 24:46Speaker 1: landrys On blasts in this public forum really crush his
- 24:51Speaker 1: daughter's are you telling me you're dating the man who's
- 24:54Speaker 1: family and blackmailing? Silly? It's silly. And of course she's
- 24:59Speaker 1: gonna like be on our dad's side. And he's like,
- 25:02Speaker 1: Jake's like, yeah, that's true, but that's not the whole story. Yeah,
- 25:05Speaker 1: tell the whole story. Tell me the story. I'm gonna
- 25:08Speaker 1: tell you, but you're not gonna believe it. It's not
- 25:10Speaker 1: the whole story, but I'm not gonna tell you now.
- 25:13Speaker 1: USh dang, tell the freaking story. Yeah. I don't let
- 25:16Speaker 1: anything go. So if someone's like, oh, can we talk later,
- 25:19Speaker 1: I'll be like right now, right now, because I'm gonna
- 25:23Speaker 1: spin out about this. Okay. I have a question. Yeah
- 25:28Speaker 1: you okay, I know we've talked about it. Do we
- 25:31Speaker 1: think that all it gets resolved between Abby and Jacob,
- 25:35Speaker 1: and it's their wedding nut schools at the end. I do,
- 25:39Speaker 1: and do you believe that Casey is their child? I do? Still, Okay,
- 25:43Speaker 1: see you. Yeah, I think Jacob's gonna I don't know
- 25:46Speaker 1: what he's gonna tell Abby exactly, but well, maybe he'll
- 25:49Speaker 1: tell her the whole story and she'll realize there's my
- 25:52Speaker 1: time traveler that I spent a majority of my lifetime
- 25:56Speaker 1: in the eighteen hundreds. The will, just the will. But
- 25:59Speaker 1: you don't think he's gonna tell her about that. I
- 26:00Speaker 1: hope he does, But again, I think it's a tough
- 26:04Speaker 1: pill to swallow for Abby to be like, Okay, okay,
- 26:08Speaker 1: I wish my life was that exciting, and I wish
- 26:09Speaker 1: I knew somebody who just came to me and was like, listen,
- 26:12Speaker 1: I have a secret to tell you. And would you
- 26:14Speaker 1: be like, I totally believe you. I totally believe you.
- 26:18Speaker 1: Maybe I'd be skeptical receipts. Yes, I'd feel like anything
- 26:24Speaker 1: is possible. Yeah, yeah, yeah, you know. So the last
- 26:28Speaker 1: thing in this episode, Fern and Cat have what I
- 26:32Speaker 1: considered to be a nice moment on the day Cat
- 26:34Speaker 1: comes home from the hospital, but it's weird to me.
- 26:37Speaker 1: I'm rolling my eyes like the Cat and Ellie had
- 26:39Speaker 1: arrived in the eighties instead of present day, and Ellie's like,
- 26:43Speaker 1: we gotta go, like this isn't where we need to be,
- 26:45Speaker 1: and she's like, wait, maybe for know something, and Fern
- 26:47Speaker 1: says like, oh, you're still in the middle of all that.
- 26:49Speaker 1: And Forern's so happy to see Elliott, which is another
- 26:52Speaker 1: one of those Eliot okay, But they bring Catherine home,
- 26:57Speaker 1: baby Catherine, baby Catherine home from the hospital, and she
- 26:59Speaker 1: goes Catherine, Wait, hold on before I gets up you there.
- 27:02Speaker 1: I just laughed because Delle's holding the car seat on
- 27:06Speaker 1: her lap. Dude, my mom talks about how I looked
- 27:09Speaker 1: uncomfortable in my car seat, so she took me out
- 27:10Speaker 1: and held me on the way home in the hospital
- 27:12Speaker 1: like times were different. That was nineteen seventy nine when
- 27:14Speaker 1: I was born. Y'all's oh so different. Yeah, Delle's holding
- 27:17Speaker 1: her car seat on the lap. I did notice that too,
- 27:20Speaker 1: and he says, this is Catherine. Then she goes Catherine
- 27:23Speaker 1: and she looks at Cat and she goes Katy Cat.
- 27:25Speaker 1: Now Cat nods? Did Fern not know who Cat was
- 27:28Speaker 1: all this time? I don't know. I hate this whole
- 27:30Speaker 1: little minute scene here because Elliott and Kat are out
- 27:35Speaker 1: of sight but still within earshot so they can hear
- 27:38Speaker 1: all this stuff, and like Kegi is her a nod,
- 27:40Speaker 1: like yeah, that's me, and like Colton and Delle don't
- 27:42Speaker 1: see any of this happening. I just I hate it.
- 27:46Speaker 1: I hate it. And then and then vern sings beautiful Dreamer. Yeah,
- 27:52Speaker 1: I thought that was the most interesting bit of it.
- 27:55Speaker 1: Did ern get that from Anti Coop? I don't know,
- 27:58Speaker 1: because who put the freaking clock on the wall. The
- 28:00Speaker 1: clock is the one that plays beautiful Dreamer? I know.
- 28:03Speaker 1: So how does Ferno about I don't know. Yeah, I mean,
- 28:07Speaker 1: please don't open up another like loose thread. I know
- 28:12Speaker 1: one episode before the finale. I agree. Agree. So the
- 28:17Speaker 1: other scene that I just want to point out that
- 28:19Speaker 1: Kat and Elliott watch from Afar was the Cliff and
- 28:21Speaker 1: Tessa engagement and Ka goes, that's how it's done, and
- 28:26Speaker 1: Elliott's like, he doesn't, I'll show you how it's done.
- 28:29Speaker 1: Point up against the car. Yeah, I's like, come here,
- 28:34Speaker 1: A sweet hat borderlines corny for me sometimes, Yeah, especially
- 28:39Speaker 1: some of the stuff in the nineteen twenty five the
- 28:41Speaker 1: Cliff and Fern of it all is real corny to me.
- 28:45Speaker 1: You know, I don't know if it's just the way
- 28:47Speaker 1: that it's executed. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Look, the final scene
- 28:51Speaker 1: for me did a lot of mending of my heart
- 28:54Speaker 1: for this show. Yes, I agree. Fern singing old Lang
- 28:57Speaker 1: Syne as the slow motion aftermath of the shooting is
- 29:01Speaker 1: happening was incredibly well done and has me looking forward
- 29:05Speaker 1: to I'm gonna watch the finale like immediately. I wanted
- 29:09Speaker 1: to talk about it here so my brain would not
- 29:11Speaker 1: be spoiled and I wouldn't you know, I would just
- 29:14Speaker 1: be asking and guessing, yeah, and not knowing. But I
- 29:17Speaker 1: really it made me excited to watch the finale. Yeah,
- 29:20Speaker 1: I gotta tell you. Megan sent me a text and
- 29:22Speaker 1: she's like, first of all, she's like, I need you
- 29:24Speaker 1: to watch episode nine, like immediately, and then she's like,
- 29:28Speaker 1: whoa our mail bag. She was so impressed with some
- 29:32Speaker 1: of the writer inners who who have clocked exactly what's happening. Yes,
- 29:39Speaker 1: so it is wild to read your predictions and mail bag.
- 29:42Speaker 1: And because someone straight up called postpartum depression, I know,
- 29:46Speaker 1: I was like whoa Yeah, yeah, yeah, impressive, very impressive
- 29:51Speaker 1: I mean, I feel like there are a lot of
- 29:56Speaker 1: smart listeners out here who are dialed in. We're not
