  Do what you love.
• 0:07
What if in the next 10 minutes, I could help you get closer to doing what you love?
• 0:14
What if you don't quite know what you love? And what if in the next 10 minutes, I could help you get closer to figuring out what it is that you love doing, and not necessarily being, but doing, because there's a difference. So we're gonna get to that. Got two names for you. David Senra and Paul Graham.
• 0:35
Here we go. You ready? Come on now. Come on, Here we go. You ready for a little ride? Because for the next nine minutes now, I'm going to help you get closer to figuring out how to do what you love, or at the very least, how to do more of what you love.
• 0:56
I'm doing it. I'm living it. I'm living my best life. I'm living my dream. I'm living the epic life. And I want you to get closer to it as well. Now, these two guys, David Senra and Paul Graham, they're gonna help us get there.
• 1:10
Yesterday morning, I read an article about David Senra, or I think David Senra wrote it. It was in Fortune magazine, which I never read, and it was all about how he created this podcast called Founders.
• 1:24
And I was fascinated, flabbergasted, really fascinated and flabber by the founders. Whatever. Hello. Get back to the F words from this article. Because why was he doing this podcast? Why was he creating this podcast? He did it for two years, at least. Two years without earning a dime, without caring about earning a dime. And he did it because he was doing what he loves to do.
• 1:54
Now, he already knew what he loved to do. And that was, I think it was like biographies. He liked biographies of famous or adventurous or exciting people or whatever. And he summarized them. And I think what he did was read the summaries as the podcast. I think that was the podcast. I haven't actually listened to the podcast. I was more interested in the behind the scenes on how he created this podcast, with why he created this podcast, and how he kept going with such power and energy, high vibration and joy and happiness and purpose and meaning. Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. You got enough big words there for you.
• 2:32
Here we go. Here we go. Come on now.
• 2:34
So how did he do this? Because he was doing what he loved. And the important word there is do he. Because if you'll remember back to some of my more not so recent work where I talk about, in brutal honesty and depth and tears, how I spent eight years not writing a book, I spent eight years thinking about writing the Book about whining, about writing the book, about pretending to write a book, about talking with friends, about writing the book about the devil at the dinner table. The devil at the.
• 3:10
What was it? The devil at the.
• 3:13
At the cocktail party or something. I didn't remember. Name of my own chapter. It's a really good chapter. I swear in my book, every single day, shout out hello. Sponsored by every single day. Why do I mention every single day? It wasn't just happenstance. No, because every single day is at the core of what David Senra and Paul Graham are talking about.
• 3:32
So Paul Graham. So David Senra refers to an essay he read. And the essay was written in 2006. I mean, who even uses the word essay anymore? 2006. And it was called do what you love, Right? Either do what you love or how to do what you love. Right? And it was very simple. It was one of those things, simple but not easy, right? Like, how did he do what he loved?
• 3:55
And he got into. And this is why I appreciated it so much because it's exactly what I. I'm preaching and practicing over here.
• 4:02
And that is, for example, today it's Thursday. This is my Thursday thunder video.
• 4:06
I've been doing this for seven years.
• 4:09
And he says, don't do it for the prestige. I'm not. Don't do it for the money. I'm definitely not. And because you're doing it, why are you doing it? You're doing it for you. You're doing it because you love the action.
• 4:25
You love the doing of the task.
• 4:28
And he says that's critical. Because, for example, I could think. And I think this was what happened in those eight years. I liked the idea of being a writer, but I wasn't actually doing the writing.
• 4:44
You see the difference? It's pretty big difference, right?
• 4:46
Do I want to be. Do I like the idea of being a writer without actually doing the writing? Right? Because remember, I was not doing the writing. I was not writing for eight years. I was only whining about how I was going to be a writer someday, right? I have a calendar if you'd like it. I'll print it up and mail it to you. I have a calendar with a big post it in the middle, said someday.
• 5:11
And the joke, the brutal joke of that is that someday doesn't exist. There's Tuesday that exists. There's today that exists. Yesterday, by the way, doesn't exist anymore, by the way, pro tip, tomorrow doesn't exist yet.
• 5:26
And then you could say, tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow. It's always tomorrow. I can't hold on to tomorrow. The only thing I could hold on to is right now.
• 5:34
So Paul Graham says, don't do it for the money and don't do it for the prestige. You're doing it because you would do it anyway even if you didn't get paid for it. Right? And if you think about this, this is exactly why I do most things that I do. You know, people say, bradley, also, how did you write 40 books?
• 5:55
Ask me how many of many of those books sell, right? There's a good chunk of those books that don't sell anything. Except there was only one copy that I cared that sold that ever was in the existence and got into the right hands. And those hands were mine.
• 6:13
I wrote the book for me. Did I write the book to sell? No. Did it sell? No. Did it win awards? No. Do I care? No.
• 6:21
I wrote the book for me. I was doing it for me.
• 6:25
And how can I have produced 7,000 videos? How can I have 13 million views on YouTube? How can I have 300,000 subscribers and because the only thing I care about is video number one and subscriber number one and view number one. Because it's me. And am I. Am I egotistical? Is this all about me? Yes. Yes, it is. And it. But who's it really about you?
• 6:50
Because who am I doing this for? For me. Why am I saying all this for you? Because I want you to say this for you. I want you to find out the thing that you want to do. You don't need to follow in my footsteps. You don't need to do a short every day for 30 days. You don't need to write for 30 days.
• 7:08
But that's what works for me. If you'd like to know exactly what worked for me, that's exactly what worked for me. John Muldoon November 1, 2012 Bradley, I'm gonna put up a challenge. Write every day for 30 days. No quality control, no quantity control. That's it. Write every day, 30 days, boom. And within 30 days, boom ka chalaka. Right? I was a writer. Not only. You know what? I wasn't a writer. I was writing. That was even better because I can call myself a writer all day, but what does a writer do? A writer writes.
• 7:38
So I need to be the guy who's doing the thing, who's creating.
• 7:43
How do I create so much? I consume a lot. I read, I listen, I watch. Right? I watch movies, I listen to audiobooks, I read articles, I read books. And that's how I get the Information, I process the information.
• 7:56
And this is also where Paul Graham in his essay do what you want, he has a big distinction between like, like passive, doing what you want, meaning, you know, drinking margaritas in the lounge chair in Acapulco versus creating, I think he says producing. I like creating. You know, the tagline or the signature of my email for years has always been keep creating, keep creating. That's it. I, the secrets are there. The secrets is in the system, right?
• 8:30
The secret is the system. The secret is the persistence because the consistence is what creates the discovery.
• 8:41
So you can't theorize, you can't talk about it, you can't chit chat, you can't wonder, you can't ask chatgpt.
• 8:49
You have to do, you have to create the thing and you have to do it and you have to do it on a consistent basis. I, I like the number 30. Take your pick of numbers. I like 30 because it's like a month. It's clear it's for the month of whatever, February, we're going to do it for 30 days. That's it. Kind of like November, kind of like February.
• 9:08
I like those months because towards the end of the year and towards the beginning of the year and in fact if you like somewhere leave a comment, I don't know, would you like to have a 30 day challenge, right? And then is it going to be writing, is it going to be creating? And part, part of me says, I don't care, I don't care what you do. I just want you to do it for 30 days. And if you say, Bradley, you want me to do this, are you forcing me to do this? No, I want you to want to do this. And in fact I don't care if I what I want. You need to want to do the thing and you need to want to do the thing for the joy and that joy and happiness and meaning and purpose and love needs to be greater than the fear of not doing it or the fear of failing.
• 9:50
I said I would do this in under 10 minutes. That is right now what do I say? Keep creating.
• 9:56
Love ya and come on now.
