- 1:01Ordinary women Extraordinary Faith When God calls, we say yes.
- 1:11Hello and welcome to another episode of the Arise Women of God podcast.
- 1:16I'm your host, Tamara K.
- 1:18Anderson, and joining me today is the incredible and personable Bonnie Randall, an amazing woman warrior of light.
- 1:27And today we're tackling the important principle of learning to discern when God is speaking in your mind.
- 1:34It's important to realize that hearing God is a principle that requires practice.
- 1:39In First Samuel, chapter three in the Old Testament, we find the story of a young Samuel who later became God's prophet.
- 1:49He actually heard a voice in his head calling him by name in the middle of the night, but he was so new to that experience that he thought it was his mentor, the priest Eli.
- 2:00It took three times of this happening for Eli to finally realize it was God who was calling Samuel.
- 2:08And he instructed Samuel that if he heard that voice call him again to simply respond, speak, Lord, for thy servant heareth God then whispered the message Samuel needed to hear.
- 2:20If a future prophet like Samuel needed practice to learn to hear the whisper from heaven, it's okay if you do too.
- 2:28As we read in First Kings, chapter 19, verse 12, God's voice is often still and quiet.
- 2:36It doesn't usually shout over the noise.
- 2:39It waits for us to tune in.
- 2:41Bonnie is now going to share some incredible insights on how to tell which voice in your head is actually God speaking to you.
- 2:50Oftentimes, God's voice in your head sounds like your own voice, but kinder, softer, more loving, also a little more authoritative.
- 3:01And for me at least, he speaks in very simple terms, very short phrases.
- 3:09And I have to keep asking Questions to get more of the story.
- 3:14He doesn't speak to me in these big, long paragraphs.
- 3:18He speaks in very short thoughts and very short phrases.
- 3:23And I have grown to know that for me, it's a gentle voice.
- 3:29It's a very kind and loving voice.
- 3:32If I ever hear a criticism that doesn't come out in a gentle way, in a positive and hopeful way, I know that's the adversary, or I know it's my own subconscious giving me a hard time.
- 3:50I feel like it's important for us to experiment on how God speaks to us.
- 3:57And you will start to notice that there are three voices in your head.
- 4:02Yours, God's, and the adversary.
- 4:06And as you start paying attention to the fruits of those voices and where they're leading you and what they're telling you, you will start to know the difference between the three.
- 4:19Because I promise you, God's voice is always hopeful.
- 4:24It's always progressive.
- 4:25He wants you to move forward and.
- 4:28And whatever you're doing.
- 4:30And sometimes moving forward means repenting, and you need to ask and fix something.
- 4:36But when he asks you to repent, it'll be a gentle rebuke.
- 4:39It won't be a berating.
- 4:41That's the enemy.
- 4:43He's the one who puts us down and criticizes and shames us and all of those things.
- 4:48God's rebukes are always gentle and loving.
- 4:53So I hope that that helps give you the idea that as you start paying attention to those three voices and you start paying attention to the way they make you feel, what emotions come up and where you're feeling
- 5:06them in your body, you will start to know which of those three voices is you, God, or the adversary.
- 5:15Bonnie's point about the short phrase pattern is so very helpful, don't you think?
- 5:20God usually gives us the.
- 5:22The next right step, not the whole encyclopedia.
- 5:26But even when we know the pattern, we have to create the right environment to hear God's whisper.
- 5:32I recently experienced this while I was planning a new series for our podcast.
- 5:38A couple of months ago, I was planning this whole series on hearing God, and I had a list of about 3 to 400 questions that women like you have actually asked.
- 5:49And I knew I couldn't answer them all, so I talked to God about it.
- 5:54And then because I wasn't getting any answers, I let that process while I worked on making dinner, I kind of just let myself settle in and try to figure out how I was going to do it.
- 6:06Marinate.
- 6:07So God can just start throwing little trickles of ideas into my mind.
- 6:11When I finally sat down a couple hours later in my office and began to pray, I told God, this is your work and I want to do it your way.
- 6:21Please help me discern which of these questions I should answer and in which order.
- 6:28The next thing I felt impressed to do was to cast out the adversary to kind of clear my mental space in my brain, including any anxiety or distracting thoughts.
- 6:38And then I invited angels and light in to be with me and fill me so that I could more easily heal, hear and discern what God was telling me to do.
- 6:49As I looked over the list after that, I found God did not shout at me, but I simply heard and felt, yes, this one.
- 6:58And I would go down the list a little bit farther and feel really good about another episode.
- 7:02And so I just began building a list.
- 7:05That progressive feeling that Bonnie just talked about because it moved me forward through this goal is a perfect way to describe it.
- 7:14I felt this nudge to do this episode and move forward down the list.
- 7:18That clarity only came because I was intentional about inviting God to be a part of the process.
- 7:25I started where I was in the kitchen in the mess of daily life, right?
- 7:31But I gave him the problem I was trying to solve.
- 7:34Asking for guidance if you're struggling to hear it, maybe because the adversary is creating static to keep you from hearing the divine frequency clearly.
- 7:45In our free roadmap to Revelation download, we specifically talk about this spiritual warfare.
- 7:51On page six, there is a prayer called Cast out the Adversary that I use very frequently.
- 7:58It's a tool you can use to command feelings of fear or overwhelm.
- 8:03To leave in the name of Jesus Christ so that you can create a holy space where you can hear God in your mind.
- 8:10When you clear the darkness, the still small voice doesn't have to compete for your attention.
- 8:16So my friends, in answer to the question, you absolutely can hear God in your mind.
- 8:21He is speaking in hopeful, progressive and gentle ways.
- 8:25If the voice you are hearing is shaming you, it's not Him.
- 8:29If it's confusing you, it's not Him.
- 8:31God is the author of Peace.
- 8:34Help you practice this and get your frequency calibrated like young Samuel did.
- 8:39We want to give you our roadmap to revelation.
